It was a little hard to find but once we found it I can't complain. The choices on the ways to have wings were amazing. The wings themselves were gigantic. Big, juicy and full of flavor. I don't really think I can say enough about how awesome the wings were. The place itself was trying to be a sports bar I think but it sort of came off more like a basement with a bar. Oh, and the bathrooms are TINY. Functional, but tiny. I'd definitely go back to this place if only because the wings were that good.

not impressed!!?? YA RIGHT! this is by far the BEST chicken wing place I have EVER been to. I lived in Durango for ten years and this was our sunday spot. Great servers! right off main ave, one of the best local spots for sure!! Not only are their chicken wings broasted, they are crisped just perfectly and have excellent ordinary and unordinary sauces to pair with. I recommend the Asian Persuasion, Ranchers Choice or Gold Fever but the classic buffalo is great too or even the honey garlic parmesan. Our crew always loved to order the friend mac and cheese bites or the poppers off the app menu. YYUMMMM!!!~ LOTS of flat screen TV's and local beers on tap for game days!!! Also the most popular music venue in town is directly underneath it. BEST PART OF ALL- AN EPIC BLOODY MARY BAR ON SUNDAYS!! get the homemade cuckoos bloody mix!!! :) We still think about Cuckoos and hope to go there again someday. :) it may just be worth the 6.5 hour drive... ** to comment on someones "looks like a jock rooms dorm room"-- its a SPORTS BAR!!! and looks like a sports bar!!!! get a local beer by Ska Brewing or Durango Brewing Co if you are there!

Friendly bar-staff, good location, and they have good beer specials. However, the chicken strips we ordered were disgusting. I would recommend this place as a bar where you could stop in for a few beers, especially to watch a game they might be showing on one of their TVs, but as an eatery -- eeeehhhhh, your better off going somewhere else.

Been here three times now. All I can say is our servers have all been friendly and we were treated very well each time. The wings are the biggest (twice the size of Native) I have had. "Bumbleberry" is my favorite, but others are very good as well....was with the family at the Grand Canyon when talk about wings turned into an impromptu 350 mile road trip to Durango for more then just talk...so far a great adventure!

These two stars are for the delicious chicken only. The service was awful-on Sunday in a Sports Bar. I WISH our waitress would have even apologized. She couldve cared less, rarely coming by the table. The order was late and wrong, then we waited for correct order for 20 mins. After all of that and having to hunt down our waitress, we were presented split checks with auto gratuity. We were annoyed and expressed that, receiving nothing but 'policy' spouted in response. Auto gratuity for a split check?? On a party of 4? Who does that? I'm beyond disappointed.

I really like Cuckoo's, it's one of my favorite places to visit when I come back home to Durango. In my opinion, the best thing about Cuckoo's is their WINGS. I always order the Asian Persuasion ones because they are addicting!! Seriously, they are sweet and spicy and the wings are gigantic, I can't even express how yummy these things are, just ORDER THEM and you will find out. I also tend to get the Halfway wings as well, just because I like the traditional tangy, buffalo wings. Some people find these to be too vinegary but I like them. However, Asian Persuasion is my number one love. I've also ordered the fried chicken here and it's pretty good. Wings are still the King though. The chicken dinners come with soup or salad, and a couple sides (fries, corn etc) and a biscuit. The biscuits are really good! Be sure to ask for cranberry sauce on the side because they won't give it to you unless you ask, and it's totally worth it. As for the ambiance, yeah the place is a bit dark and maybe grungy looking but the wings are worth it. It has character and there are a bunch of TVs so you can catch the latest game. Check it out if you are looking for some great wings =D

Service was great. Friendly, helpful, good-humored staff. Food was good, it didn't take too long for wings. The atmosphere was good too, but if you freak out about being underground or a lack of windows, you shouldn't come here. Also, parking wasn't too good. You have to park down the road from the place.

Really great place and nam for a family friendly place. The great menu caters to kids and adults. Too bad it took over 50 min for chicken tenders, Cesar Salad and soup. The wait staff operates with a similar response time

The service isn't always perfect but I've always found it to be friendly. The food here is really good and it's a family friendly place, especially considering that it's a sports bar. We usually get the family meal which comes with quite a bit of food and is good for a family of four. (Or more if you have small children)

Really good wings. Crisp and juicy, fried to perfection. Classic wing sauce is always a good way to go. We tried garlic Parmesan, it's not just a sauce flavor but real minced garlic with cheese coating it. Good if you like garlic . Asian was one of our favorites, sweet and tangy just like you'd except. The apricot one though was quite unexpected , but really really good. A sweet and fruity flavor surprises you with warm meaty chicken in a strange but amazing way. It's sweet and thick, but we love it!

Cuckoo's is a little hard to find, but definitely worth the search. It's a little bit sports bar, a little bit diner, and a lot of delicious. The Asian Persuasion wings were absolutely fantastic... the best wings we've ever had. That sauce was sweet, spicy, sticky, sesame yumminess. It was so incredibly delicious! The Honey Garlic Parmesan sauce had real grated parmesan and a nice amount of garlic. My kids devoured the chicken fingers with Honey BBQ sauce. It was not spicy at all and had a savory barbeque flavor. The wings were large, meaty, and fried to perfection. The ranch dressing was great, but we didn't use it much because the sauces were so perfect. Ultimately, I don't know that anything here could hold a candle to their most popular flavor. Let's just say we were persuaded by the Asian Persuasion.

We popped in for dinner on our one nighr in Durangp on our way home. It was pretty busy so initially we sat at the bar. A table opened up and we moved. No big deal. We shared the Asian flavor and the Honey Garlic Parmesan sauces on chicken tenders. The Asian was a Sriacha based sauce and was good and spicy. The Honey Garlic Parmesan was sweet and very, very garlicy. Be warned, there is fresh garlic and a lot of it! We like garlic, and going back and forth between bites of that and the Asian sauce was really good. Some complained about slow service but we weren't in a hurry so it was not a factor for us.

Just moved up the block, waited about a month to try the place based on multiple reviews of bad service. The service was awesome and we paid $10.00 for a 1/4 fried chicken meal, complete with mashed taters, corn and a biscuit and it was all delicious.

  • B-funk D.

Ordered a 1/4 chicken and one pound of medium buffalo wings. 1/4 chicken was fried, wings were inexplicably not. They resembled frozen store bought wings reheated, barely, in the oven. If you like wings, and my experience was representative, then avoid this place. The fried 1/4 chicken was good.

Terrible customer service!! Server was rude and not welcoming. Would not recommend to anyone!!

This place has the best wings ive ever had. Been coming here for 10 years and have never been disappointed by their wings. Asian persuasion are my go to, but all the flavors are awesome. Cant understand the bad reviews. All i can think is these people are fans of hooters, and buffalo wild wings, which i avoid. This is a great place to watch sports, eat wings, and drink beer (with lots of local ska brews on tap). Super comfortable atmosphere too.

The boneless wings were the bomb! Went here to catch the Pittsburgh game. Reluctantly tried the fried mac and cheese which turned out to be really good! The service started out fantastic until it got really busy. Antonio was our server. He was very funny and personable. Seems they were understaffed. He was running around like a chicken with his head cut off. Haha

Good chicken and crap service. Every time I go it is questionable that there is even a waitperson to serve me. The bartender is always yuckin it up with the sole person at the bar (their friend). I just do not think their chicken warrants me to visit again. It just chicken... chicken that is being served by sparse waitpeople when the mood strikes them.

Not known for service but the food is always great if you like yard bird. They do it right. Check out the great wings and munchers. They have plenty of Tvs and a bloody marry bar.

We had heard this place was good from a local college student, but when we walked in, we decided we would take-out. The atmosphere is a confused fusion of Cracker Barrel, a sports dive bar, and your neighbor's basement from the 80s. A bean bag chair and Nintendo in the corner would not have felt out of place. We ordered a couple lbs of wings to-go and waited awhile. What we found when we got home was watery blue cheese dressing, 2 sticks of celery and wings that were unnaturally large, fatty, and totally soggy. I ended up throwing out half my order. Ah well! They still have the college kids I guess.

    (1)
  • Eric S.

The wings are BIG and HALF a pound is plenty! They RAN out of blue cheese.... No blue cheese dressing!?! That's like running out of ketchup with fries! Wings were decent. Decent minimal service. I expected more all around.

Soooooo..... The wings are awesome, top notch. Big and juicy, and the flavors are so good. I go here all the time with the guys and it's great. However the service SUCKS! You wait forever for your waiter and they are usually miserable. Your lucky to see them twice the whole meal.

Best place in town to watch a game and get some wings. Bring your friends and just have a good time, and don't rush. If you like wings its the best spot in town hands down. Maybe not the "fastest" service but the wings more than make up for anything.

The One Where Sandy's First Dinner in Durango. My sister recently moved to Durango and I was able to take some time off from work to visit her (thank you awesome boss!). After being on the air/airport for 8 hours - my brother and I finally arrived. So Cuckoo's was the first place my sister and her hubby took us out for dinner. I loved the atmosphere because it's very cozy, hole-in-the-wall feel and it also reminded me of the episode of HIMYM... the one where Marshall brought Robin to his "home-town" bar. Anyway, the food was good (I mean, you can't really go wrong with fried chicken) and their portions were HUGE! I could barely finish half my plate and ended up taking the rest home. I tried their chicken tender dinner - 10 oz of fried chicken tenders in whatever sauce you like (I tried this berry jalapeno). It was good and my only complaint was the fact they put too much sauce on there. It comes with a side (I ordered their wedge potatoes), corn, salad or soup, and a buttermilk biscuit. I have to say their biscuit was money! It went really well with my chicken - haha. My siblings order their "wings and rings", which is on their appetizer section. I can see why they each ordered it as a meal because it was more than enough to feed one person. My sister tried their "old yeller", which was green chilies with mustard. Sounds like an odd combination, but it was tasty! My brother-in-law tried their garlic Parmesan, which is a dry rub and a bit salty, but still yummy. Service was friendly and it's a self-seating place as well. Just FYI - service does run a bit slow, but apparently that's the culture here in Durango. Overall, great place for my first meal ever in Durango!

So here's the thing. I live for these wings. I lived here for 6 years and grew up about 45 minutes away. Cuckoo's is by far the best wing place I have ever been to in the country. Everything from mild to melt your face spicy. They do it right. That being said... The service here has always been sub par. I've never felt like a customer, but an annoyance. This town is filled with highly rated and great restaurants and that's why this gets two stars. Great food, awful service. Tonight was my final straw. After years of supporting this joint, I'm done. Our server, Antonio treated me and my three other friends with utter disrespect. Three...THREE...tables of four or more people came in, sat down, got food and paid and left when we finally got our food. I came in tonight because they also have a great sports bar that I wanted to watch the World Series game on tonight and I was pressured to leave because they were "busy"...30 empty chairs on 8 empty tables. I work in the food industry and talking to other tables while throwing two empty to-go boxes at another is NOT acceptable. Sorry Cuckoo's but you've seen the last of my money and I'm going on a crusade to make sure my friends and family don't spend a buck here again. Antonio...you were an epic fail as a server.

I am telling you... the wings are massive! I am a man that can go through 20 wings in a heartbeat, unfortunately, on this day, I was defeated. I think you all should try to get an episode of Man versus Food and have him try to eat 20 wings (breaded). If/when I go back to Southwestern Colorado, I will definitely make a special trip to Cuckoo's! Thank the people at the front desk at the Residence Inn for making this recommendation.

I've been here 3 times now and each time I've been disappointed. The second time my husband and I got Asian persuasion wings and honey parmasean. The chicken was very bland. It tasted like it had been boiled in water. The manager was back behind the bar with the servers and bartenders all socializing and flirting with each other. It was really awkward and uncomfortable. The next time I went I got a hamburger with onion rings. The hamburger was obviously a frozen patty. It was so bland and over cooked. The onion rings were nothing special. My friend got the chicken park sandwich and she didn't like that either. There are much better places to eat in durango.

Dark and in a basement, which would be really cool if there was character to counter the obvious, but there just isn't. What can I say about it? Slow, not great service, not great food, and very VERY expensive for what you get. It is a wing place, not a 4 star dining experience. I also was not a big fan of their wings, very heavy and breaded, and the sauce was incorrect on what we ordered.

Best wings in Durango, unique laid back atmosphere, and affordable... Other reviewers must be retarded!

I wasn't impressed, the food was ok, nothing to write home about. The ambience is like a jock's dorm room. Typical college hangout.

Consistently good wings....consistently poor service. Last time I was here it took 15 minutes to get acknowledged and an hour and a half to get our food. Please improve your service.

Ugh! I really hate giving less than 3 stars. Looking at my reviews I rarely rate less than 5 stars. In all honesty, it's a treat to not cook so I am notorious for doling out 5 stars. Here'e the deal....what is going on with this place? We had to wait forever to order -- which is honestly pretty typical. This isn't a knock on the servers -- they bust their butt to get things done but when a restaurant is staffed with 2 servers only (one serving as a bartender) what can you expect? Our server was nice....and hustling...he did the best he could. On to the food -- It was also good! We had a sandwich, wings (always delish) and a salad... I love their wings (which is why we came here much to my Husbands dismay). Now...with good-intentioned servers that hustle and try and a place with good food.....why does Cuckoos always miss the mark? Not sure! Things are NOT clicking and this hasn't been the first time I experienced this... I think management or the owners are maybe absent? Someone needs to fine tune this place because it is only hurting themselves. There are a lot of places to eat in Durango -- so you do have to care. I hope they step it up....I would start by staffing the place appropriately ESPECIALLY on a Sunday when there are playoff games. I understand trying to save $$ on labor...but don't cut on prime days when you are a sports location. Ya know? It only upsets customers like us when you have to wait 45 minutes to get food (after ordering). That is unacceptable. My Husband was going to run across the street to a hot dog stand to grab food he was so starving. I love their wings....but will it be enough to bring me back?? I feel bad for the servers having to apologize to the customers over and over. Time for someone to step up and make this place what it can be. Potential wasted at this point.

The #8 hot wings... are you serious? The smell from them burned my nose. But my husband gobbled down two orders. I wish he would have been there for the Snow Down competition. Here's how that happened: I went back to Durango for my baby shower in July 2010. I told him about Cuckoo's (he's *always* talking about how he can eat anything hot and spicy), so I grabbed 2 orders on my last night there, sealed them in a Ziploc baggie, tossed 'em in the hotel mini-fridge, and then into the cooler in my car and drove all the way back to Prescott, AZ. He ate the wings when I got home that night for dinner. Yes people, it can be done. I teared up watching him eat - I felt bad for his taste buds. I tasted the tiniest amount of sauce and had to chug a glass of milk... still didn't completely neutralize it. That stuff is serious. OH, AND WASH YOUR HANDS WELL, DON'T GET IT IN YOUR EYES! Anyway, their drinks are amazing! A White Russian has never tasted so good! Their fries are crunchy and yummy! The food is just fantastic! Great on any night, but especially a night that there's a game on or you've been at the Abbey or Gaslight. Check 'em out! Great little location, great staff, very comfy cozy.

Service was slow, especially since it wasn't too crowded when I was there. They were out of mashed potatoes even though it wasn't too late at night or crowded. However, the service was friendly and the chicken was really tasty, crispy but not greasy. If I go back to Durango, I'd go back here.

Poor service. I tried calling on at 6:24pm on 8/11/12 to see if I could order some broasted chicken. I got their info from a Durango and Silverton museum ad and my family was pretty hungry after the ride. A woman picked up and I asked if I could place an order for some broasted chicken to go, but I didn't have a menu. She stated that they have a menu online. I told her I didn't have access to the online menu and I just wanted to order some chicken to go. Without missing a beat, she just repeated that the menu was online and hung up the phone.

We were there at 7pm on Saturday night, and not a college student in sight! The bar was pleasant and had several games on the 8 tvs there. Our waitress was fairly attentive (we did have to grab her for drink refills). It did take a bit for our wings to come out, but I would prefer to wait and have FRESH food than pre-fried and re-fried wings served by many others. The buffalo wings were, by far!, the best wings I have had in Colorado. Growing up near Buffalo, it's been near impossible to find that same flavor. Drinks were a little pricey, but I can see myself visiting here again.

    (4)
  • Matthew D.

These are hands down the best wings I have ever had. As other reviewers said, these wings will come out smothered, though they're fried perfectly so as not to be soggy. I've tried about 10 different styles and they are all phenomenal. Service is mediocre as mentioned by others, but the wings are so good it doesn't matter.
