Denver has a Winchell's!!! I thought they all went out of business...I haven't seen one in years- I live in CA. Who needs Krispy Kreme...when there'a Winchell's - I love these donuts...thanks for the memories - the calories were so worth it!!! My favorites- Apple Fritter Cinnamon Roll Glazed Donut....oh my my Sugar Donut -(not to be confused with the powdered sugar donut) My brother asked me to tell you the fudge cake donut with chocolate icing is his favorite and if they have it with rainbow sprinkles- it's even better- it's like been 6 years old again! Enjoy

Donuts=Awesome. Breakfast sandwich=Lacking. The donuts are delicious. The blueberry fritter had little crispy bits and a chewy inside. It actually was a little glaze-happy but I think it would be great with coffee. The fresh-squeezed juice is pretty darn good. Being though as it is fresh-squeezed, you get some weird foam on the top that tastes a bit less like orange flesh and more like orange fiber. Skip the breakfast sandwich. The wife said "I think this is velveeta." The sausage was kind of weird. Not so much a "breakfast sausage." Hit up McD's instead.

i visited today about noon and i was surprised at how many people were purchasing donuts.and very pleased that all the product was very fresh. the lady that helped me was a little hard to understand (English) and not so friendly (not rude just not so friendly. so i didn't get all the ones i wanted , but the gentleman that also was behind the counter was friendly ,helpful ,smiley and made me want the kind of donuts he was eating lol ! this location seems to always have fresh anytime i have been here 11:30 pm week nite ,noon wk end and any other time ,thank you for the good service. no problem using the living social coupon this time or the other and i used a coupon because i wasn't sure if i liked Winchell ,i was a dunkin donut fan .and had received a burn job at lamars donuts down the street . and the Winchell on 50th and federal not good food or service , 1st and Sheridan not a fan either . thanks again !!!

Booooooooooo! Will never go back! The 2 guys who were clearly from a foreign country and spoke broken English and were ok at the beginning of the visit but this "first" visit turned into a catastrophe. Let me tell you why... I was greeted and I told clerk1 that I wanted the "Winchell's Dozen" which is 14 regular doughnuts, bars, or filled(Clerk2 is making doughnuts in the back). So, I commence to picking out my selections while salivating at the size of them and am told nothing while choosing them. Then, when it comes time to pay, clerk1 goes to clerk2 and they talk in a foreign language to each other and point at the doughnuts and then the cash register and then commences to ring it up to almost $20. I disagreed and said it states on the menu bars and filled for $10.49. He tells me no that "filled" means these and points to the bismarks and the "bars" that arent filled. WOW! And "I" was supposed to know this? and I told him that. Then, the guy gets an attitude with me like im supposed to be a mind reader. I said, "You know what? Keep them!" and walked away. Thats not all. This place is horribly run down and im sure there is a health code cause these guys werent using proper gear for food handlers. Clerk1 dropped a doughnut on the floor and picked it up, which I never saw it hit the trash can so that made me quite leary as well. Maybe the health dept should make a visit. Take my word for it... go to the other Doughnut place(DD) which is a liitle further down Broadway like I did. I was much happier, didnt feel icky while there and I could understand them and they were nice to me. Admittedly, I do like to make a point sometimes... Since I had to pass by Wichells again on my way home, I decided to stop and offer them some real doughnuts. The guy sure did speak English much more clearly when he told me to "get the F... out of here!" LoL! True experience!

You can have your Lamar's and Krispy Kremes - I'm sticking with Winchell's. Fresh donuts are made and sold round the clock and they are heads and tails above anything those chains produce (and any other donut maker in the city since Glazed and Confuzed closed). Go late at night for an old fashioned, a pint of milk, and a view of the customers with the munchies.

Now this is what a Donut House should be. One look at Winchell's from the outside and you know it is going to be the old school donut experience. The donuts are everything they should be. Staff is very friendly. Coffee is...the same coffee they probably served in the 80's. Again, one look at Winchell's from the outside and you know exactly what you'll get inside.

The smell is deadly...deadly delicious that is. We followed our noses all the way to the front door and we were greeted by one of the friendliest people. He hooked us up! My favorite donut as a kid was chocolate cake with coconut frosting on top. Let's just say it's still my favorite. The peanut cake donuts are also super tasty. Mmmm!

Mmmmm, a classic donut joint, lots of selections and varieties. More of a take to go kind of place though.

BEST EFFING DONUTS IN DENVER!!!!!!! Until you have lived in an area that doesn't have good donuts, you will never know how good these donuts are! These are the first stop I hit when I get off the plane in Denver!

Best donuts ever. Well, they were still warm, and delicious Their donuts are soft, but have a light crunch to the outside. Fresh! Love visiting here.

Watch out for their groupon... it's a scam. The groupon was 12.00 for 12 doughnuts listed as a 21.99 value. When I got there, their menu showed that they normally charge 10.49 for a dozen doughnuts. Their "fancy" doughnuts are priced at 1.99 each. The guy behind the counter (who later stated he was the owner's son) said I could not get any fancy doughnuts and could only get the regular doughnuts, for which they normally charge 10.49. When I showed him the groupon and asked him to explain why the groupon costs more than their normal pricing and where exactly is this "up to 21.99 value" that the groupon listed, he simply shrugged his shoulders. When I told him this seemed like a scam... more shoulder shrugging. He then told me he would give me the dozen doughnuts and two additional fancy doughnuts to complete the groupon (which if you add it up is a 14.50ish value according to their menu.) So, it seems to me that according to how they have listed their groupon, that the fancy doughnuts should have been included as an option in the dozen doughnuts in order to make it to that 21.99 value that this supposedly is. In any event... this appears to be a scam, because I only wound up getting the two additional fancy doughnuts because I complained when they actually were just trying to give me 10.49 dollars worth of doughnuts for the 12.00 I paid. I did wind up using the groupon because I had my kids with me and had promised them the doughnuts, and I didn't want to disappoint.

Well the place is actually fairly nice inside. But people are correct about the other reviews. The staff is very friendly but impossible to understand. There is a strong language barrier. The donuts are so dense. They have a similar consistency to scones. And the breakfast sandwich just tasted kind of burnt and slimey. Can't recommend.

Not a huge selection, but my sprinkle donut was tasty. I finished it within the first 15 minutes of being in the car, I would go back :-)

I am forced to cheat on you, Dunkin Donuts - but, you are make me do it -since, you are not in Denver!! Jelly donuts - YUMMY. My favorite is the Boston Creme. Great one or get a box to share with friends!

Okay this donut joint is just "ok." Everything kinda tastes blah. Nothing really stands out except for one donut---the raspberry filled glazed donut. This is quite possibly one of the best donuts I've ever had in my life. I came in once after they were freshly made and it was oh so good. The glazed donuts, old fashioned, chocolate, apple fritter, and maple donuts were not too impressive. These flavors are better at House of Donuts, but I'd definitely come back for their raspberry donuts.

Donuts - Yes. Coffee - No. Winchell's has lots and lots of delicious donuts. Seriously, I don't know if I've ever seen this kind of selection. Plus they have danishes and eclairs and all other assortments of breakfast sweets. And since they are made fresh 'round the clock they are always tasty cakes. The coffee on the other hand was simply icky. Like I took one sip and decided to throw the rest away and get coffee from somewhere else icky. And the shop itself is kind of dingy. But, the people working there are always pleasant and for character this place is tops.

Once every while, you get the fortune of finding a nice place that offers something good.. but the service turns that good into great. This specific Winchell's location provides one of those "life-is-good" moments because, not only are the donuts good (not greasy, over sweet, imbalanced) but the man (whom I suspect is the owner) provides excellent service. His attitude is extremely warm, friendly, and optimistic. After leaving BD's Fish & Chips, we stopped by for dessert, and the owner had the consideration to bag our BD's leftovers, without a second thought! Genuine, considerate, and compassionate people are worth anyone's time. Why pass up the opportunity to meet someone new and smile? ESPECIALLY if it comes with soft, tasty, fried goodies!! Trust.. donuts were a weekly childhood breakfast, so I know my fried carbs!

It's 2am, Saturday morning and I have become fixated on the idea of cream puffs. On a lark, I gave Winchell's a call to see if they were open, expecting the phone to ring a few times and then hang up. Seems like everyone already knows this, but Winchell's is open 24/7. They answer the phone and I am embark on a short journey for aforementioned pastries. This place was packed at 2am. Never having made good friends with alcohol, I had forgotten that when the bars close, eateries such as these become the safe havens for drunkards. The lone donut-slinger did his best to appease the booze-zombies, and the line moved steadily. When it was my turn, I demanded all the cream puffs. He quipped, "You like the puffies." To which I replied, "Oh, yeah, I love the puffies." I also bought some other varieties for my dearest, and eventhough I had way more than 6 sugar-coated-orbs, he only charged me for a half-dozen! This was not my first visit, my first amazing discount from them, or my first midnight snack run, but it remains the most memorable in some time. Granted, I have had better cream puffs before but never any so readily available when you want them most.

Pardon my French, but this Winchell's is so ghetto. The lights in the establishment were broke, the two black guys (speaking in a different language) looked pretty exhausted, while one of them was talking in anger. As I was requesting the donuts to the main clerk, the other dude with the anger issues gives me the dirtiest look. Super creepy, yet the main clerk was ok, but what bothered me the most was that they were wearing street clothes (no aprons, hats, nor gloves) which is a huge health concern. I had a coupon through my phone, the main clerk grabs my phone, say's it's good, paid my donuts and he goes in the back without washing his hands and puts his hands in the flour where they make the donuts. HE JUST GRABBED MY PHONE, no consideration for the public's well being, just flat-out gross. I ended up eating half a donut out of the 6 donuts i got. I have a feeling in the near future that a known name like Winchell's is going to go bankrupt and out of business because they hire idiots with no proper training and no ServSafe certification to work there. So sad, but the truth hurts. Just a one time thing, and never again will I step foot in that place, EVER...

I was at GB Fish N Chips and thought: "Dessert! Donut!" Went to Winchell's, and although the building is tired, it was clean inside, there was a great variety of donuts available, and the service was friendly. Good job!

After our visit to GB fish and Chips, we decided to pick up some donuts for breakfast the next morning. The smell.... The service was ridiculous. The guy behind the counter was so nice and friendly. I wish everyone was as happy about life as him. We bought three donuts and the guy threw an extra one in the bag for us. I will go back just based on customer service alone.

This happened about three months ago and I should have written a review then and didn't. The donuts are yummy, but the service SUCKS! I tried to call the 1888 number that I barely found in the store and was never called back. I had purchased several Groupons for this location and felt like I had hit the jackpot but last week this whole situation I got really mad when I realized that the jerk behind the counter validated ALL 5 of the Groupons instead of the 2 that I thought he was authorized to validate. The real problem is that if he knew how to provide proper service I should have only been charged for 1 as I should have been. Let me explain: I originally purchased 3 Groupons each for 1 dozen donuts and 5 Groupons for a sandwich and a drink all from this location only. I entered this location and it was a warm fall day and the location was stale and not well ventilated totally empty of other customers. The clerk did not come out to help me quickly and did not greet me pleasantly. I first ordered a dozen donuts and he put them together in a box and I pulled up my Groupon on my iPhone, then another customer came in and he helped them. I was not happy or comfortable when he took my phone out of my hand and manipulated it to validate it. I asked for a sandwich to be made and for avocado on the sandwich and he told me that would be was not included and would be an additional 75¢ as if that would detour me from ordering it. He seemed put out when I agreed to paying it, but he was not busy and I was irritated with his attitude. He helped another customer before making my sandwich and then when into the back to make the sandwich and brought it out front and rang up the 75¢ and put the box on top of the box of donuts. He then told me he needed my phone again to validate the Groupon and I had to ask him I did not also get a soda with this deal in addition. He did not believe me and as I pulled up the deal he then had to give me the soda. His service skills were so horrible. He should have offered me a bag for the sandwich which I did not know they even had as I was leaving the store with my purse, the soda, and box of dozen donuts with the (clamshell box) sandwich on top of the donut box and opened the door the sandwich box slid off and hit the parking lot immediately. The sandwich opened and went all over the ground! I was pissed!!!! I put the soda on the table just outside the door and went back into the store as I explained what happened he told me that it was not his fault and he would remake the sandwich but I would have to pay for it again! Are you kidding me???? I think he had seen that I had multiple Groupons so he knew they existed. JERK!!! I said fine and planned on calling the corporate office on him. After he made the sandwich the second time he asked for my phone again. I asked him if he wanted the 75¢ again and he told me no and I was so irritated that I did not notice he did not offer me another drink that I was entitled to since I paid for it again. I left so mad. It was not until last week when I was in the neighborhood again and I was going to stop in for lunch and about to use another of the remaining 3 Groupons that I realized all 5 were validated that day. That A$$--- validated all of my Groupons that he had NO right in doing!

3.5 isn't bad. The coffee is, however, so they get rounded down to 3 stars. So my advice is beef up the java, and spruce up the joint to edge yourself into the next level, 'cause your donuts are pretty darn tasty.

So I hate giving bad reviews....However when I walked in and looked in the donuts cases there were flies in the case. And so I got a donut on the opposite side of all the flies and told the customer service guy about it and he just says its because of one of the jelly donuts that was in there. I will probably not comeback to this location again. Sadly.

The staff was so friendly and helpful! BUT, the donuts are extremely heavy and doughy. I don't mean "doughy" as if the donuts weren't cooked properly, but rather thick and heavy. I won't mention other donut places specifically, but my family has enjoyed donuts a lot more at other places in the city. I'm sure this kind of heavy donut is favored by others, but it wasn't for us. The store was clean, and the staff was delightful.

This donut house, even though it is a chain, makes donuts that taste like I used to have them growing up. The cake dough isn't too sweet, the frosting isn't overly sweet either. The staff aren't always too friendly, but whatever... I wouldn't be if I were working at Winchells either.

  • Jimmy C.

Ok, so a disclaimer, these taste exactly like the doughnuts I grew up with, so they fill a doughnut-shaped spot in my soul... :-) I come here every few weeks for a couple of doughnuts when I want a change from the typical Saturday morning coffee+Trompeau. I usually get a raised doughnut and a cake doughnut. Some mornings (and I think the "morning" part is important) the raised doughnuts are fluffy, yeasty bites of perfection, other mornings they've been cooked a little longer and are a bit drier, but they're always good. I prefer the plain old sugared doughnut that lets the fried dough goodness come through unfiltered. I also usually get a devils food cake doughnut topped with peanuts. The service isn't spectacular, and it's an old doughnut shop on Broadway, but it's fine and I kind of appreciate these places that have been around and aren't trendy or super popular. I definitely like their doughnuts a good bit more than some of the other choices in the area. The coffee is pretty weak drip coffee, so stop by Starbucks or Corvus (just a couple blocks down the street) if you're more demanding in your coffee needs.

Rude, incompetent, lazy staff. Argued with my friend after ignoring her presence at the counter for a good ten minutes, and then grabbing her the wrong donut. Argued with me over wanting lettuce and tomato on my sandwich (like in the menu picture). Argued with the customer after us over something else. The bathrooms were disgusting and out of toilet paper. But that's alright, I found a way around having to wipe with harsh paper towels by grabbing a few extra napkins and leaving them a righteous upper decker. Hey guys, you earned it! Be nice next time!

We love stopping by here on the weekends. We live about a block away and will swing in for s few donuts or an awesome bagel sandwich. I love the people working here, always friendly and crack jokes. Don't go here looking for a fancy breakfast or expecting too much from the menu. They make delicious donuts and their bagels are always tasty!

Well, I can't speak to the quality of the food but I can note on the lack of quality in their delivery service. This morning I ordered some donuts for delivery, after a hour I hadn't received either my food or an update. I called the number I was given and was told that there were only two drivers this morning and they just couldn't do it. I received my refund through the delivery company but I will never order from this place again and I would advise anyone considering ordering delivery through this place to think twice.

I have been a fan of Winchell's since I was a little kid. This shop has a great selection all the mornings that I have been there. Winchell's always taste soooo good and it is obvious that they are using quality ingredients. The chocolate icings taste like CHOCOLATE. Another thing I like, they haven't super-sized their donuts so I can try 2 or 3 instead of just one monstrosity. Their prices are very reasonable. Some bakeries seem to think they can get away with any price they want for mediocre food. Thanks Winchell's... a fan for 60 years and counting. Just wish we had a Winchell's in Colorado Springs still.

Donuts never seem fresh and are always kinda dry... Head elsewhere in my opinion as there's better places out there.

Mmmmm indeed. Thanks to this spot, I was only about 80% hungover the morning after some drinking adventures. Nothing like a chocolate covered old fashioned donut to soak up the bourbon. Yes. *hiccup*

Congratulations, Winchell's-- you've earned my first one-star review on yelp (113 was apparently your unlucky number)! Donuts are pretty good (honestly, once dunkin donuts opens up in Denver, Winchell's is gonna get SLAUGHTERED), but as mentioned many times in these reviews, their customer service is abhorrent. Decided to give them a try for treating my coworkers. They offered a deal, 3 dozen donuts for a price I thought seemed pretty reasonable. I go in to cash in my voucher, and the woman behind the counter (who was having some major language barrier issues) insisted that the 3 dozen voucher (which says "must be used in a single visit", she doesn't care) is for 3 visits, a dozen each time. Refuses to budge, so I get my one free dozen, and pay full price for the other 2. She takes the voucher, and there's no way of recording that I have 2 uses left (supposedly). When I ask the woman how this is supposed to work, she throws up her hands. These guys don't even know what deals they're offering, and refuse to honor them properly. I ended up getting a refund on the voucher because I told the deal company I was never going back there after the confusion and poor service. And honestly, the place looks like it hasn't been renovated since the 70s. They have no pride in their business' appearance, which doesn't surprise me at all. They seem very cheap on all accounts. Also, shame on them for the GBs parking debacle. GB's is a fantastic restaurant with great food and wonderful service. They could learn a thing or fifty from them.

I tried to order donuts here recently and the employee spit on his hands before handling my food. He also added a surcharge to my order at the register for no reason whatsoever. I've been buying donuts here for many years but never again.

Thanksgiving Day and in the great tradition of stuffing oneself, I headed out to Winchells because they are my absolute favorite! The Cinnamon Crunch glazed and sour cream are the best. There was only one person at the store today and I felt bad for him to be away from family. I tipped him $5, told him thank you for being here and hoped he would get to go home in a few hours. Thanks for being open today, I got my sweet fix!
