    Yes, it was a healthy somewhat more creative version of the "Americanized" Chinese food I grew up with. Some of the flavors in the entrees were good but overall I was disappointed with the food. We ordered the fried tofu appetizer. Big mistake. It was overcooked and extremely hard to chew. No flavor whatsoever. We also ordered the pork dumplings which were quite good and flavorful. They reminded me of my many trips to dim sum parlors. The entrees were better but the fried rice has zero flavor. I would definitely not go back to this restaurant.

    Stopped in for dinner right before the show. The location is great. About a block away from the theater. My servers were very friendly and suggested a few of their favorite items. For cocktails we had the spicy cucumber and sexy Sisi's martini. Refreshing and nice cool off for this summer heat. I tried the devil cha shao, their spicy roast pork, it was delicious! Both sweet and spicy awesome!! We also tried the honey sesame chicken with fried rice. Very tasty. I later tried the Baum cake as suggested. That too was very delicious. Definitely have to stop in again.

    We got a groupon so thought we would check it out! Our waitress was really friendly and service was fast, but all four of us left very underwhelmed. The Siu Mai dumpling appetizer was the best dish - we actually ordered a second round after we all ate the first in less than a minute. The sichuan beans were also great. However, all the entrees we got - jumping chicken, cha Shao and devils cha Shao were just okay and all lacked spice and flavor. Even the dishes that were supposed to be spicy were bland. It was a good deal for the groupon but we probably will not be back.

    Stopped in during the pouring rain to grab a bite to eat here recently. Service was excellent and the ambiance was great (it wasn't busy when I visited). I ordered the jumping chicken dish and had one drink; both were delicious. I sat near the floor to ceiling window facing their outside patio; all while listening to the music being played -- a mixture of indie rock and smooth electronic music (props to their music selection). The price I paid for my meal was what I expected to pay for a place like this.

    Uncle Joe's is one of my regular haunts around town. I fell in love with the food primarily because it reminds me of the food I grew up with. I'm half Asian and grew up eating a lot of flavorful, non-traditional Asian dishes. Uncle Joe's is kind of a professional version of that food. I'd recommend the jumping chicken. It is a light chicken dish with a sneaking ghost pepper type spice that you may not realize until you take a sip of your drink. Pair that with white rice and you've got a a great and unique dish. On top of that you've got one of the most friendly staffs in all of Denver. They may struggle a little with the peaks and troughs of their location as proximity to the convention center can bring both massive amounts of traffic and very little at all but it is difficult to predict which one they will have. All that said, top reviews for Uncle Joe's!

    Ordered fish ball soup and scallop fried rice. Sounds delicious, yes? The fish ball soup was what made this review a 2-star, rather than 1-star rating. Simple, nice flavor, rice noodles were cooked just fine, good portion. Just barely worth $7. The scallop fried rice was heavy, over-oiled, and most definitely over-lemongrassy. It was dense, as though it was packed in a cheap, square, Chinese take-out box. It was actually in a container that could have held another 30% of the entire dish. I didn't really see an excuse for it to seem so...gross. Lemongrass - if the dish was called "Lemongrass Fried Rice," I wouldn't have ordered it, I'd have no complaints and I wouldn't have to waste these poor peoples' time. The scallops were the small variety, which is fine, but they were dry, and did not have good flavor. I'm honestly unsure whether it was because of the lemongrass or not. The website is clean, flashy, and makes the food look delicious. I had a really hard time choosing my dish, but I'm pretty certain I will not have to even consider it again. I'm happy I didn't spend more money. Speaking of... I ordered GrubHub. I don't know much about it, but I do know that I was quoted over an hour and a half for delivery, and the food arrived a full 40m. early. I chose "cash payment" on the website, and the driver didn't have change, so I tipped him an obligatory 60% on an already pricey order. I also asked that the driver call upon arrival due to issues with the doorbell and a temperamental pup who doesn't like the doorbell noise - this didn't happen either. Not sure if that was the restaurant staff or GrubHub staff. Suggestions: Wokano for any of their specialty fried rices. Great Wall for basically any standard Chinese that will be consistent. Peppers for a lot of your Great Wall dishes, a little better quality, but higher prices.

    I went for happy hour (3-6 pm everyday) and thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The Siu Mai and Cha Shao Sliders were tasty and just the right size portion for a light meal. A glass of wine and 2 small plates for $14.00 - that's a great value in downtown Denver! Atmosphere is upscale modern, restaurant is very clean and the staff were all phenomenally friendly :)

    I'd be cheating if I try to convince myself this is authentic HK "Canteen" style food; but being Americanized wasn't even the biggest issue. You see, Hong Kong Canteens are known for their cooking and service speed, so much so that when you see the waiter single handedly deliver 3 glasses of iced coffees with their fingers half dipped into the drinks, you just don't care! The HK style Milk Tea is supposed to be freshly made, right? Well, it tasted like those instant 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 beverage packets purchased from Asian stores, not that it tastes bad, but I can simply make one at home at 1/4 of the price charged here! The Cantonese fish balls noodle soup also resembles instant ramen noodle soup made with those seasoning packets, ugh! Scallion Wraps filled with BBQ Beef sounds like it'd be a great appetizer, IF it's really Chinese scallion pancake wrap! No, they just heat up a couple of tortilla wraps with some scallion pieces pressed into it, we got fooled once again! HK pork ribs with brown rice was probably the only good thing, it made me regret not getting the famed Char Siu plate (didn't want to have all pork so opted for the BBQ beef wrap, BIG MISTAKE!) Last entrée was the Scallops Fried Rice, it was DRY DRY DRY. If using dry scallops, the first rule of thumb is that you gotta soak it in water until it's plump again. Seems like they try to cut down food preparation time by using a lot of shortcuts here, unfortunately, none of them works! The service wasn't any faster as a result but the food suffers. I was starting to miss the Row 14 Bistro & Wine Bar that was the former occupant of this space...

    I wanted to love Uncle Joe's but that wasn't the case after my dining experience on Tuesday night. After finding parking (meter or paid lot only) we went in to a mostly empty restaurant. The hostess sat us right next to one of the filled tables. There were only two other tables and a few people at the bar while we were there. The waitress was friendly and brought water right away. The reason for a three star review is that the food just wasn't great. It was edible but nothing wowed us. The best item we tried were the sweet potato tater tots with salt that were great. The siuchan chicken buns were ok. The chicken was cooked nicely and is white meat but lacked flavor. The buns broke in half when trying to open them. Perhaps they were not steamed but they were cold and the dish was better without them. There were also cucumbers, carrots and cabbage to put on the buns with the chicken. For entrees we tried the Sha Chao pork with jasmine rice and pork belly with brown rice. The Sha Chao was definitely better and jasmine rice cooked nicely as it was light and fragrant. The pork belly wasn't rendered properly so the skin was too chewy and the meat inside was fine but not something I'd order again. Uncle Joe's could be a great restaurant but needs to find ways to better prepare their dishes to get people in and coming back. I did use a groupon but wouldn't plan on buying another one.

    Pros: Awesome ambiance and fabulous service! great happy hour (until 7pm!) prices for food/drinks, nice selection of food, great selection of cold saki, awesome sweet potato tots Cons: dumplings were over sauced, like dumpling soup, saki came in a great container but it was warm for the first two cups before the ice cooled it off They've only been open a couple of months. It's a great location and I hope they succeed.

    What a pleasant lunch! We came from a freezing conference room hungry looking for a good lunch and we got more that we bargain for in a GREAT WAY!!! Must try: dim sum baked "su" pastry chai shao so different and delicious, sweet, savory and crazy pastry Concubine bun: just fantastic Cantonese fish soup great flavor, great portion and really warm! Give this place a try of the $20 bottomless food. You will not be disappointed. Great server as well!

    The wife and I were visiting Denver for the first time and ventured around the 16th Street Mall. We were craving some Chinese food and searched Yelp to find this spot. This place is quite trendy and has a great ambiance. We ordered the Jumping Chicken (extra spicy). The dish was packed with flavor. You should definitely give it a try! The service was great too! Our bartender was very friendly and after some conversation, she recommended we try the Green Tea Baum Cake dessert. This was amazing as well! If i'm ever asked by anyone visiting the Denver area about a place to go eat, Uncle Joe's will be at the top of the suggestion list.

    Found this place via a groupon and boy am i glad we did!! The appetizers, happy hour, and food options are dlish! We started with salt and pepper tofu - delish CHA SHAO PORK SLIDERS - make your own buns- not bad, not amazing SPICY CRAZY DUMPLINGS - not bad - sause was great on everything else! wontons - yum bok choi - yum jumping chicken - nto bad,would like to try other things first The wine is a good deal on happy hour Want to try the edamame and ma po next time, and also the brunch! Staff was phenomenal, it's not fast, but it is enjoyable! Definitely a place we'll be back and often!

    Ordered the pork take-out. The flavor is delicious, however the pork was so tough I had to waste it. Later on I ordered the beef hoping it was more tender. Unfortunately it was more tough than the pork. The brew beans were cooked to perfection and everything had great flavor!

    This place was so hyped up on Yelp that I was expecting some really good food. Luckily we just ordered a few things during happy hour so it was a pretty cheap mistake. As so many of the other reviews say, the pork on the Char Shao Pork was incredibly dry and they were skimpy on the sauce so it was not very enjoyable whatsoever. The pork also had a layer of fat on the outside that was not enjoyable and had to be cut off. We also tried the sichuan green beans, which had good flavor but were barely cooked - I dont even mean al dente - they were a very light green as if they had barely touched the pan. Lastly we tried the crazy dumplings, which our server recommended. Unfortunately these also missed the mark. The sauce was pretty tasty honestly, but the dumplings themselves had an odd funk to them. I'm not very sure why this place has such good reviews. I cant recommend it.

    Went in on a Saturday at 2:00 pm and we were not impressed. Im not sure if they were having an off day or if this is an ongoing problem but most of the food tasted old. My Honey Ginger Chicken was nicely flavored but the meat was super dry and it was actually cold in some spots. I sincerely think they took it out of a refrigerator and warmed it up in a microwave. Same thing with my wife's Cha Shao pork dish, but hers was actually stiff as leather, I have a picture of her pressing down chop sticks onto it and there not even piercing the meat. We left this dish there and didn't bother taking it to go. The picture shown is what we left behind. We also ordered a Fried Rice which tasted fresh but had no flavor, I think they neglected to add salt or soy sauce. The milk tea was also flavorless. Nothing special about their Tofu and my wife thinks the dumplings were gross. The worst part was the service. Our waitress didn't want to bring us a dessert menu but instead wanted to tell us what was on it. She only checked on us once and spent a lot of time playing around at the bar. We had to flag her down for everything, she gave us a check but didn't come back for it until we asked her to. We used a Groupon and I actually think they have old food set aside for it, we must have gotten left overs. It was a Saturday, they should have made fresh food in the morning in preparation for a busy night. We wont be going back, my wife (who is Chinese) stated that this is the worst Chinese food she's ever had. Its a shame too because the place is very nicely decorated. I hope they do better in the future.

    Two stars doesn't mean it totally sucks but it disappointed me, this place looks cool enough on yelp but it isn't so in real, this is personal thought though Service: good attitude, asked us whether the food was good for 3 times, which is too much...I asked a flavor question about a dessert and the waitress knew nothing about it... Food: small menu, cha shao pork bao is dry, my mango ginger shrimp is just ok, the cake roll is sooo hard..seems to be taken out of the fridge just now and not very good-quality cream, mocha and lemon, not good together I think

    Delicious! I highly recommend the brunch...not only is it $20 for all you can eat plates, but the portions are good ---and most importantly if you can't finish, they allow you to take your leftovers! The staff is friendly and encouraging if you like trying new things. I definitely will be back :) Try the mushrooms, ginger chicken, and lo mein. Yum!

    Excellent prices, especially for a place in the heart of down town- entrees were about $10. The food was amazingly tasty with huge portions. The bar is extensive with great local beers on draft. I had the wonton soup with fresh scallions and the special Uncle Joe's pork with crispy tofu. It's a casual place with fast service. The only complaint is the limited parking since it's so close to the Colorado Convention Center.

    If Uncle Joe's is the new face of Chinese food, I want nothing to do with it. It's a strange experience at Uncle Joe's, with a focus on the bar and drinks and happy hour, you don't really get a sense that this is designed around the food. I certainly can't believe that this is an outgrowth of real Hong Kong restaurant, because their food has been so westernized, it feels completely like an American concept. One older couple walked out after being befuddled by the menu. And I don't blame them. In the few times I have stopped in, I haven't found anything that has struck my fancy. For example, the cha siu roast pork was really an abomination, made from a very lean, dry piece of pork. It should be a fatty cut of meat that can take the long hours of roasting it. This dessicated piece of meat had a very iron-y taste, and had be served with a knife and fork because there was no way your teeth were going to get through it. I have no idea how they can say this is their "special" roast pork. The fried salt-and-pepper tofu side was good and tasty, but basically anything thrown in a fryer can be made to taste good, so that's no real test of their menu. They were out of the crazy dumplings at lunchtime, so that was an additional disappointment. Service was nice and the space is contemporary but that's about all the positives I have for them. Given this mediocre experience, I find it hard to believe that Uncle Joe's is going to find an audience for their cuisine.

    Wow. I can't tell you a time when I have walked out of a restaurant, but I just walked out of Uncle Joe's. We were seated at a table for 15 minutes and did not have a server acknowledge us. The restaurant was not busy and the wait staff looked like they did not have a care in the world. We saw another couple walk out and other patrons were having trouble getting service, too. I can't imagine how this place has a four star rating.

    Been here a few times now. The beef sliders and sweet potato tots are my favorite here. I love the mango noodle salad (topped with avocado and garlic chips) as well. The prices are very reasonable for lunch hour. When they're busy it takes a bit longer but well worth the wait. Can't beat a $3 glass of house wine! Will be back for sure.

    I really wanted to like this place, as I love Asian fusion. The staff was accommodating and very friendly. The atmosphere and seating was modern, clean, and overall pleasant. That being said, when I moved onto the food, I was not impressed. First, I ordered the Joe's won ton soup (their signature dumplings in a clear soup). Texture and presentation was there, but the flavor was incredibly bland. I followed up with the 'jumping chicken' as recommended by others on yelp. Again, presentation was great; however, the chicken was rubbery and overly spicy without any depth of flavor... think under cooked (not fried) chicken tenders coated in crushed red pepper flakes and chili oil. No salt, no umami, no trace of a hot wok involved in the cooking process. The jasmine rice was the best part of the dish.

    The cha shao pork and Szechuan chicken is very good! Probably the most authentic tasting Szechuan cooking for a fast-casual concept. You can have their awesome protein selections on bao buns (Chinese steam buns) or in an entrée plate with side dishes. The salads are simply delicious and unique. Try the noodle salad and the watercress salad. $ 3 dollar house wine and happy hour prices are killer! Happy Hour 4-8 This is definitely my new before theater eatery and happy hour hang out.

    I love the food at this place. My faves so far: BBQ pork, beef, wheat noodles, green beans, and those sweet potato tater tots. It's a fast-casual restaurant, so I order at the counter or the bar and then they bring you the food. Affordable prices, friendly staff, and delicious food.

    This place just opened up downstairs from my apartment. Small Menu, friendly service. The food was well seasoned. It's only been open for a couple days but I'm much more pleased with it than when the space was Row 14... The food is better, and it's more focused. Just wondering if they're going to have a changing menu, or just stick to the few dishes that they have...

    After Chinja was closed, I had been searching for a good Chinese food at a decent price. Ordered a scallop fried rice, basically it was white rice mixed in with a little bit of scallop and half the size of Chinja's portion. The place looks really nice, and maybe I'll try their happy hour. As for a good Chinese/Cantonese food, I'll have to continue searching.

    This is a nice local Asian fusion located near Embassy Suites. Literally stumbled upon it for lunch on Sunday. $30 included all you can eat and drink. Non drinkers $20. We had almost everything on the menu. Dim Sum, fried rice, noodles, slat crispy tofu, etc. I walked out stuffed and rolled across the street back to the hotel.

    We had to walk out of this place after 45 minutes of waiting and never receiving any food or drinks. It took about 15 minutes before anyone came to us after sitting us down. My wife has celiacs and asked about gluten free options. It was obvious the wait staff had no idea and I was getting concerned for her. Since we waited so long we put in our drink and food order at the same time. After another 15 minutes someone else came by asking if anyone took our drink orders. We told her we put some in a while ago. She comes back a few minutes later asking if we were ready to order food. At this point, we realized we had stayed way too long already. We cancelled our orders and left.

    A good $10 entree deal. I had barbecue pork with with sweet potato tater tots and brown rice. The pork was very tasty but arrived cold. The tater tots were delish. The rice was bland. There was no soy sauce but they brought me some. Like the purple decor. It's not Row 14 (the restaurant it replaced), but it's a less expensive alternative.

    Just ate here this evening and thought the food was quite delicious. Appreciated the ample Szechuan peppers in the crazy dumplings sauce. Mapo tofu sauce was flavorful. And the char siu pancake wrap was also well done. Wonton soup had a nice peppery flavor to the broth but the wontons themselves were a bit on the salty side. The menu was limited and the menu layout was a little strange. The ambience definitely struck me as more westernized rather than authentic Hk. All in all, however, the food was flavorful and I'd come back again.

I really like the casual environment and all of the menu items! I brought 14 of my friends for their valentine's special and they all enjoyed it as well. Great food and an exceptional environment.

    My wife and I had lunch today at Uncle Joe's and were very impressed! Great decore, very good service, and phenomenal food left us full and satisfied with our choice. We will be coming back any time we are in Denver. One of the best values for our money we have encountered in some time. Beer temperature PERFECT. Sapporo. Modern setting. Easy vibe. Window seating for people watching. Unable to see Bar Menu from Booth Seating and beyond. Suggest Bar Menu on flipside of Dining Menu. With a bit more fine tuning; Great success! parking is a pain, but no fault of restaurant as directly across from Convention Center.

    Really love this place. Fresh and tasty food, and the best part is that there are super healthy and even vegan options. Affordable and great atmosphere. My wife and I sampled the salads, sticky buns, crispy tofu, beans, and sweet potato tater tots. I've heard the takeout is fast and convenient too.

    We happened upon the restaurant while walking to another place. Decided to give it a shot and we're very happy with the choice. The speed of service was a little slow but after speaking with the bartender, who was friendly and nice, we learned that the place has only been open for about a month. With that being said the food was terrific, the pork sliders were fantastic and the sweet potato tots were mouth watering. Also happy hour prices are a great deal.

    There is some potential here, but also some misses. The atmosphere was very nice- not super different from the previous Row 14, which was a good choice. The service was excellent, with friendly and attentive staff, and $4 happy hour wine is pretty good. The food, however, has some misses. I had the Cha Shao Chinese scallion pancake wraps. The side of green beans was fine. However, I certainly expected to find my food wrapped in a more traditional pancake with the scallions baked in the batter. Instead, it was an ordinary tortilla, perhaps fried in a pan with a few scallion slivers stuck to the outside. The avocado was more like guacamole mush. The pork was pretty good, and the overall flavor profile not unpleasant, but I had to pick several large (quarter-sized) chunks of un-chewable gristle out of my mouth. I'm usually the eat-it-anyway to avoid embarrassing the staff type, but I couldn't get it down. I do wish them luck, but I think that location will require a more refined product.
