Heaven on a steamed poppyseed bun. I have one week left in Denver before I head back to San Diego, and am on a quest to hit all the restaurants I've been wanting to check out, but haven't. Mustard's Last Stand II was first on my list. I got the veggie dog with everything on it (mustard, relish, pickle spear, sliced tomato, chopped onions, hot peppers, saurekraut), a small order of veggie chili cheese fries, and a large soda for about $8. (If you look at the pics, the prices are still the same as in the pic of the menu). Win. The dog was the best dog I've ever had. The veggie dog was just a packaged soy dog, nothing special. BUT, everything else about the hot dog was a-maz-ing! The steamed poppyseed bun. Awesome. All the Chicago style toppings. Awesome. I was a tad disappointed that they don't use the neon green Chicago-style relish (as I've seen on Food Network), but I guess I will have to actually go to Chicago for that. The veggie chili cheese fries are a definite must-order. The small order is enough for 2 or 3 to share, if you're all getting a dog too. The chili didn't look like anything out of a can - it looked and tasted like slow-cooked homemade chili. I don't know for a fact that it is homemade, but that is my guess. And, there's no fake meat in the chili - just beans, chopped tomato, and nice big pieces of chili peppers in a thick sauce. Very yummy, not really spicy at all, so if you're sensitive to spicy stuff, have no fear. And, it is worth noting the cheddar cheese on top was chopped into mini chunks, not shredded, which for no reason whatsoever makes it better somehow. They put the perfect amount of chili on their skin-on fries, which are perfectly cooked. We need a Mustard's Last Stand in San Diego. Like, now. I'm definitely going to be back at Mustard's at least once in my last week here in Denver. After that, I'll be attempting to recreate this ultimate veggie dog at home, in loving memory of Mustard's.

Puts shame to the so called "Seattle's best hot dog". Prices are just right. But if you are looking for a $0.99 hot dog, I believe 7-11 is for you.

You wouldn't know it from the outside, but this place is amazing! I've lived my whole life in Colorado and wouldn't know a Chicago dog if it slapped me in the face! ;) BUT, I can honestly say, this place is as good as it gets. Their vegetarian options are truly impressive; offering more variety than most chain restaurants. The isn't enough I can say about their fries...Large fry, more like extra large fry is amazingly price below $3! Always, always, hot and fresh. Ok, gotta run, this review has me hankerin for some Mustard's!!!

I've been eating Mustard's hot dogs since I was a little kid. I have to give it up to them for consistency! It has always remained the same with no changes. I get the same cheddar cheese dog with a dill pickle spear and it tastes just like it did in the 80's. I manage to go out of my way to eat here (or at the one in Boulder) once or twice a year. It's a nice treat when I get to grub down a dog and some cheese fries! I stopped in yesterday and grabbed lunch to-go. All I have to say is HELL YEAH!

Dig the veggie dogs, fries & dipping sauces. Try a whole pickle. youtube.com/watch?v=fP7b…

i've driven past this place dozens of times but never went due to parking its a pain. BUT today i decided i'd give it a try, should have rethought that idea... As i walk in the rather grumpy old man doesn't greet me but rather points to the board.. ok.. as I'm standing there feeling his eyes on my back i go and ask what all is ON the chicago dog. because as far as i know theres SET things on it.. he points, any of these.. okay still doesn't tell me jack. so i settle for a burger, note i went here because of the prices of a dog. after the chicago dog question i didn't want to look foolish. 8.00$ later i sit down eat my meal. nothing special, fries didn't WOW me either. i did get a small soda at 1.49 something like that.. i asked for a refill, once again grumpy gills 35 cents. k I'm all for small business n such but its a small refill i already bought that dang drink its mine.. i of course don't have change so go back throat dry and decide this isn't worth it. I might go back if that guy was a little more pleasant but I'm thinking he's always there. so another restaurant off my list.

We have been back 5 more times since my last review and I will bump this place up another star. Order the char dog mariposa with your favorite toppings and I think you will agree. Also note free parking in the adjacent lot, which is nice in this crowded DU area.

Every time I drive by I have to stop! Can't pass up a great veggie dog! Parking is a pain but well worth it! The french fries are also a favorite! Nice and salty! Try it out-not just a college hang out!

Mustard's Last Stand II was a location and food stand I had hoped I would love. You see I am a vegetarian and thus it is (1) a little weird for me to eat anything that looks like meat and (2) hard to find good vegetarian food. My girly friend, who is also a veggie, and I swung by Mustard's after house shopping for her. We both ordered the Vegetarian Hot Dog and shared an order of Vegetarian Chili Cheese Fries. I ordered my dog with mustard, onions, and relish. The first two I like but the relish was not something I would order again. I don't even know how to explain why I didn't like it; I just didn't. As for the Chili Cheese Fries they were good; not exceptional but good. The one big plus (for me)? They have Ginger Ale out of the fountain! I love Ginger Ale. If there is a next time maybe I should try the veggie burger or the rueben.

Wow! I love this place... I took a friend here for lunch and it was so good... She talked about her hot dog all week... We both had the Chicago Vienna style hot dogs but had them grilled.... I love mustard and lots of pickles and sauerkraut on mine... You can have them any different ways... The Vienna dog has just the right amount of crispness to its skin and hot and steamy inside. One other good thing is that you can order a very small fry for 79 cents... What a good deal. They do have a parking lot that they share with another restaurant. Yum.. I will be dreaming getting another hot dog soon

DON'T EAT THE CORN DOG!!!!! unless you like soggy microwaved frozen crap. These things were limper then my grampa's wiener dog's ears. They had no interest in replacing with another item when I complained. I will not go back!!

  • Matthew D.

With some minor changes the rating could be much higher. The dogs are great tasting but small. The buns are too thick. Some people like thick buns, but I do not! The fries were pretty good. The menu was rather large for a hot dog stand. Less is more sometimes. The biggest complaint I have is the price. A polish with hot dogs and a drink is far too expensive. I will go again, but if something better comes along I am jumping ship!

CHICAGO NATIVE HERE. Just recently moved to Denver. Naturally, I wanted to find a good hot dog (deep dish pizza is overrated). I heard about Mustard's so I had to check it out. Pros: - Vienna Beef - Fries were good - Cool Chicago stuff on the walls without overdoing it Cons: - No neon green relish - The dog was too small for the bun - The bun wasn't anything special - Vegetarian menu at a hot dog joint (c'mon, really? I wouldn't go to a vegetarian joint looking for a hot dog.) Final Verdict: - Good, but not great. An acceptable substitute for a Chicago dog while living out west. I'll probably stop in again.

I am not from Chicago but hanker to know what the Chicago dog is all about. The other places I tried it left me kinda wondering. Mustard's Last Stand finally made it clear to me -- delicious! And reasonably priced too, compared to what other places charge for a Chicago dog. As I left, I asked about the chili dog, which costs about twice as much as a Chicago dog. Turns out they make their own vegetarian chili for these dogs. I tried a sample; it might be nice, but that is just not hot dog chili to me. (I grew up in NC and have distinct ideas about what hot dog chili should be. Very few places come close at all, though some are tolerable. Unfortunately, not many places in NC turn out the old-school chili these days either. Johnson's Chili, which is sold frozen at King Soopers and other groceries, comes close but still doesn't earn a cigar.) Ah, but I digress. Has anyone tried the Chicago Italian beef sandwich at Mustard's? Sounds good; I'm looking forward to tasting it.

I'm not going to write a review per se, because I am a former employee who worked here for seven years, I still know everyone here, love the place, and am incredibly biased. I love to see so many positive reviews. Eat at Mustard's. :)

Chicago Style Dog with Fries! I am not a big hot dog eater, but this place is awesome. If the name isn't catchy enough, they have all the hot dogs, brat and Italian sausage sandwiches and burgers that your little heart could desire. It's low key, cheap and tasty.

    (4)
  • Ryan A.

Excellent! The food is fresh and tasty, and the service is fast even when the place is packed. Highly recommended.

  • w o.

Decent sandwich (had the sausage/beefcombo) kinda salty tho. The fries were, cold and lifeless, got the smallest order and over half were "bottom of the barrel". The kitchen help seemed decent but the guy at the register seemed to be having a bad day. If you don't like working with people, find a job where you don't need to.

It was good!! Had the Chicago dog it's great & they have the good hot Giardiniera.

What a Stand? This Dog spot is hoppin'. Lines not very long and will give rookies a chance to settle in and make a selection before it's time to give your order to the team behind the counter. Your food is prepared on the spot. Be prepared to give your name you will be called to return to the counter to pick up your dog before enjoying either inside their cozy stand or out on the patio watching students and people on DU's campus. Perhaps a tad pricey but a Lucky Dog in NOLA will run you 7 bucks so considering that .....not too shabby.

I love me a good hotdog. This place serves good, nay, great hotdogs. Honestly, I think my favorite aspect of this place is it's name. Brilliant. I drove past this place countless times and, upon seeing the name, kept making a mental note to stop in. Well I finally have and can't wait to go back. The experience here makes me think of ordering fair food. You walk up to this place through a section of outdoor tables, stand in line to place your order with some guy who calls it out, step aside to watch the hotdog magic happen, pick your dog up after they shout your name, and proceed to said outdoor tables to enjoy your meal in the sun! The outdoor seating is wonderful, and the perfect place to enjoy a hotdog. Your dog can be customized with a plethura of different condements and veggies. If a hotdog isn't your thing, they even have a few sandwich options.

Stopped here for a bite for lunch and ordered the Chicago Dog with everything on it. I loved the fries, they still have the skins on them, extra tasty. It's hard to find these type of fries, but now I have. It's crazy how much hot dog stands can charge for these little fellers, but they are well worth it. $4 - $6 for a dog with great toppings. The outdoor patio is a great place to enjoy the sun. Thick sturdy tables support your cravings for the last stand, Mustard's Last Stand. I love that name.

I was scouting the DU area as a possible place for my future relocation. I wanted to see what was in the area so my 9 year-old, Caiden, and I set out to do some exploring. After driving around the DU, Swedish and Gultch area, we decided to get a bite. It was a very difficult decision, but Mustards Last Stand edged out Fuhgeddaboutit Pizza (Oh, and don't for a second think I have forgotten about you Fuhgeddaboutit...). We went inside and you immediately get hit with a funky vibe. It kinda reminded me of the Bahamas, where there were these laid back guys inside just chilling and serving dogs. We ordered a few (I am a traditional ketchup and mustard on my dog kinda guy, Caiden opted for some cheese)... We went outside and grabbed a booth. As we enjoyed our people watching along University Blvd, and participated in an increasingly intense round of "Slug Bug", they called my name and off I went to fetch some dogs. The dogs themselves were very good, perhaps the best I've had in Denver so far. The fries were also very good, sort of with an In-and-Out vibe... In summation, the good eats, funky vibe and fantastic people watching ensures that my first stand wont be my last stand at Mustards...

Very Chicago style stuff! The italian Beef ROCKS! Definitely get the giardinera on it. YUM!!! Grilled Jumbo hot dog is great too. And I love the mini portion of fries you can get now too. Perfect to get the taste without overload for those of use trying to be somewhat "good". I used to work here - a couple of decades ago - when I was at DU, and those fries are homemade - straight from an actual potato. It's hard to find a real french fry anywhere, so I recommend giving them a try too. Enjoy!

Vienna beef? In Colorado? You bet your sweet bippy. Mustard's Last Stand has been doing it all right ways since they opened, sometime in history, with a mission: To share the Vienna Beef gospel of Chicago with the Mile-High City. A nice hot-dog stand. Read that again: A. Nice. Hot dog. Stand. Though it really is more than a stand; it's got four walls! And its own parking lot! And places to sit! There, (thankfully?), are the only differences from any vendor you'd see on Addison near the Friendly Confines. The staff is fun and the food is well. Don't be surprised if you pick up the long 'a' sound while you're there, because it really doesn't get more authentic than this unless you're in the 312 to the 847 area codes. The joint's got a ramp for those sporting four wheels, the proper facilities, and as I said before, indoor seating (though limited and it might be more fun to eat it out of doors.) Mustard's is a great experience for those who are homesick or are looking for a good 'dog or Polish and want it done up right without having to drive a thousand miles. One of the top, small stops in Denver.

I didn't try the hot dogs because I was returning to Chicago in a few days anyway and there's Vienna Beef on every corner. What I DID have was the cheeseburger and it was a good, all-around cheeseburger. Mustard's is a good burger joint. Moving on.

Looking for a quick bite, we stumbled into Mustard's Last Stand. I'm not from Chicago, so I don't care, but if I were from the second city, I would march right into Mustard's and demand that they remove any affiliation from the great culinary destination of Chicago. Yep, Mustard's last stand sucks. Cooking a dog isn't rocket science, but my chili dog was pretty awful. The dog part was good, but the chilli tasted like tin can. In addition, my wife got a corn dog that felt, looked, and tasted like a frozen corn dog that was microwaved. Bad news bears.

  • Rebecca M.

This is the place to get the best damn Chicago Dog in town!!! Steamy buns, grilled dogs and fresh fries. Does it get any better.....nope.

    (5)
  • Tim C.

Over-priced and Undercooked. A soggy, uncooked, microwaved corn dog for $3 is fuckin' obsurd. Wow you cut your own fries, not impressed. The meat on the cheseburger was very cheap, like US Foodservice brand cheap, barely cooked. Worried me a little. The only real plusses I can give are: The staff are cool, nice people, and they have ginger ale on-tap.

My sis-in-law took me to this place about a week ago because we couldn't figure out what to have for dinner. My mother had just arrived from Chicago which made her think of Mustard's. I had the Italian beef sandwich. I'm glad I asked what the "gravy" was on their menu. The cashier kindly replied it was au jus. Standard for a Chicago Italian beef sandwich when you want them "dipped." I really liked that you get a choice of cheeses to put on your sammie too. And the giardiniera was the best. I ordered a small sandwich and it was the perfect size. And the fries were delicious. I was born and raised in Chicago...so the memorabilia on the wall was cool to see. My brother and I loved the "You know you are from Chicago if..." poster. Made us smile & laugh big time. The service was quick. Prices were fair. Why I am not giving five stars???? The tables were a little dirty and sticky. We got our order to go so I wasn't too stuck up about it. Also, the meat on my sandwich was a little salty. My sister noticed this too but assured that it's never been salty like that before. Quick fix...I just drank a LOT of water. I definitely will be back!!!!!

When I found out Mustard's had veggie-dogs I decided to stop by with my boyfriend to check it out. He ordered a hot dog with all the trimmings and I ordered the same with a veggie dog. He seemed happy with his choice, even having just recently returned from Chicago. I was psyched to find out I have a faux-dog depot so close to my apartment! It was quite good and I'll definitely be returning to give their other veggie options a try - they have a tofu reuben and a tempeh burger from what I remember. The atmosphere's pretty typical of a fast-food type restaurant, but they have picnic table outdoor seating right along University Blvd. All in all it's a good, inexpensive option and the staff that served us were very nice. It's also handicap accessible.

Anyone that knows me knows I LOVE hot dogs. Mustards serves them up right, Chicago style. Vienna Beef abounds, as it should. I love it and you will tooooooooo!!

I am not a huge fan of hot-dogs by any means, but do tend to enjoy them very much at Mustard's. I like how the buns are poppyseed and how you can pair your hot-dog with a lovely pile of mighty delicious fries...some of my favorite fries around!

If you are into decadent dogs, this is the place for you. I highly recommend this place if you are itching to break your healthy diet or choosing to continue down the path of a coronary conundrum. It's sometimes tough to get in here during peak hours especially when DU is in session. Nothing wrong with a little comfort food every once in awhile. The selection of hot dogs and topping here is both amazing and mind boggling. Too bad its a small dining room inn this great lunch destination but they do have outdoor seating for the nicer days.

Chicago Hot Dogs are delicious plus combined with homemade fries mmm amazing.

  • Kathleen A.

I miss Chicago food nearly every day, so when I came to this place for the first time I decided to try their italian beef piled high with giardinera. You know what? It was pretty effing authentic. They even served it on Gonella bread (damn good Chicago bread). They have giardinera for sale as well. If i ever have a craving for my good ol Chicago food I will definitely come here. Next time I'll try the dogs.

Great memories for me of this place. I'd come here with my friend Bailey after our ice skating lesson over at DU.

I do not normally eat veggie burgers, but there is just something about a loaded veggie burger from Mustard's (request it with grilled onions), served with malt vinegar laden fries, that keeps me coming back for more. I have been eating here since the late 1980's, and never had a bad experience.

Great dogs -- just don't order ketchup. Get the fries with cheese. Not the healthiest - but you are at a hot dog stand.

Holy crap this place is great! Get the chili cheese dog and fries! Omg yum!

  • Eric S.

Stopped in on a whim as my Girlfrined is a huge hot dog fan, and we were very pleased with the place. I had the Chicago dog which was yummy and she had a chili dog, nice little joint and popular with the DU/collage crowd.

    (4)
  • Shauna S.

Perhaps my expectations were too high. I was so looking for a good chili cheese dog (about $4.50) - and while it wasn't completely awful, it wasn't an off the charts dog. However, the fries were good, especially with the cheese sauce. My kids had corn dogs ($2.50/ea) and they looked yummy. The joint is small and on a hot day it feels like you're cooking in there - the flies also enjoy hanging out at the Mustard's Last Stand... that was kind of a bummer. Anyways, I'd go back for sure - but probably not on a day when it's 97 degrees out. The staff were nice, the location perfect, and just a fun little experience all together.

Awesome local hot-dog and burger joint! The multiple variations of hot-dog styles are all so very good. The burgers, including the buffalo option, are also delectable. You can't beat the freshly prepared toppings either including jalapenos, grilled onions, cheeses, etc... they're all so good! The fresh cut fries are also some of the best I've ever had and are well worth a place order, even just order 'em in a small size. The staff is also very friendly and delivers timely service; plus it's nice to know your supporting a local colorado business.

  • Treana H.

I only give it three stars because the regular chicago style dog was so small and in order to be filled up I had to go get a second lunch. But taste wise, great. The buns are what make the dogs. I'm go for the 1/4 LB dog next time.

I am a Chicago native and have lived here for 14 years. Mustards's is the most authentic place around. I ate there during both of my pregnancies, quite happily, my two daughters now INHALE your food, you absolutely cannot go wrong here. So anyone out there who is from The Windy city, this place can cure a nasty case of homesickness!

  • Nicholas P.

Mustard's Last Stand appears to be a good hotdog franchise. I went here with some friends and I was not let down. My Chilli Cheese Dog was quite good. Furthermore the fries at Mustard's Last Stand were quite good as well. One thing besides the food that endeared Mustard's Last Stand to me was the fact that they did not charge me for a refill of soda even though they normally charge 35 cents. All in all five dollars or six dollars for a Chilli Cheese Dog is not that bad. Also the quality is fairly decent.

    (4)
  • Jason S.

Put it on your TO DO list to hit up this place up. Excellent hot dogs and a great friendly staff! Get the chili dog and a large order of fries, smoothered in chili and cheese.... after that I recommend going on a two mile walk around Wash Park.

    (5)
  • Rod W.

I have tried several of Mustard's dogs and brats, and I have liked every one of them...big and juicy, piled with krauts, ketchup, peppers...etc with a side of fries. mmmmm. the lines can be long and the service on the slow side, but with a little patience you will be standing outside (tables full) stuffing your face with a sloppy greasiness you can only dream of in Chicago. If you are looking for a clean, heart-healthy restaurant, keep on walking. Mustard's isn't for you.

  • Stephanie L.

This is THE place for hotdogs. They've got it every way you could possibly imagine and more, including some vegetarian options. Fries are fresh and delicious. Loves it!

  • Julie A.

This is THE BEST hot dog stand for vegetarians. The TOFU REUBEN is fantastic and even meat-eaters will be impressed by it. They also have veggie dogs, veggie chili and veggie burgers. The veggie chili dog with cheese is great too, with a side of fresh cut french fries!

    (5)
  • Leo K.

Who'd of thought, a Chicago style hot dog stand that has a full vegetarian/veganizable menu. I was so excited when I saw all the possibilities that I nearly lost my lid. Mustard's is a nice little place, wonderful for lunch, or anytime really. It is slightly overpriced, but I'm always happy to support smaller franchises and especially those with vegetarian options. You have to try the french fries!

    (5)
  • Melissa M.

My family is from Chicago so I know a bit about the hot dogs - and this is the real things, even down to the french fries. The staff was friendly and they have some fun picnic tables outside. They also have pictures of Chicago hot dog restaurants and I knew a few of them - yay! Anyways, best and most authentic Chicago dog in town.

  • Alysia O.

Vegetarian Chili Dogs are worth the very small eating environment. Very little room to move around, but the dogs are pretty tasty. I haven't attempted to take my toddler there, so i'm not sure if it's kid friendly. I'm sure it is, there's just not a lot of room for high chairs and all that.

    (5)
  • Justin C.

What can you say? We're talkin' bout Chicago dogs here. As long as the bun is super fresh, I'll pay the exorbitant prices this place charges just because I'm an idiot and a junkie. Supply and demand, free-market economy, what the hell, gimme some more. Lots more.

    (3)
  • Stacey B.

had their veggie dog tonight, mmmm good! except, it does seem sort of pricey for a veggie dog. but hey, it's "fast food" and great for the long nights in the lab working on a project that's due on monday.

Good dogs, good fries, nice staff. This place is a local landmark, and I've come here multiple times over the years. Decor is crazy unique, and stands out like an awesome sore thumb from the outside. Reason for 4 stars instead of 5? More often than not, the place is a mess inside. Not gross messy, but needs trash thrown away and a broom on the floor sort. Add an extra staff member? Plenty of college kids nearby who might work for a free meal and $8 an hour. Just a suggestion in the end; I'll be back always.

    (4)
  • Sean H.

Wowee. The Char dog was pretty stand-out, but the FRIES! The fries were perfectly crispy, super fresh, with just a little bit of salt - not overwhelmingly doused in salt like a lot of places tend to do. I appreciate that. Also, a pretty awesome patio - nice and shady, good for people-watching. It's also got a unique, one-off vibe...decor and employees seem a bit quirky. I liked their sign: "If you haven't gotten your food in 5 minutes....relax, you'll get it in 10-15."

Mustards Last Stand is a fantastic local find! I was super hungry and needed a quick bite and decided to try this place. To my amazement it superceded my expectations and absolutely satisfied my hunger. I always thought that hot dogs should be more exciting than just ketchup and mustard or the occasional chili dog and after going here I discovered what a Chicago style dog is. It was so good! and so different than that average hot dog that I've always had growing up. I will definitely return to this place!

GREAT HOT DOG PLACE !!!! So many choices!!! A whole vegetarian tofurkey menu with a great variety of choices not to mention also regular choices !! Even better they have a deal in June and whenever you order a vegetarian choice you get free fries and drink !! Gluten free buns available !!! Amazing french fries !! Defiantly going back !

They serve veggie dogs, or soy dogs? Meatless dogs. Which is why this place appealed to me. Ordered two Chicago dogs, one with chili. Thought they were bland. My friend who eats meat liked hers so if your a vegetarian might look for other options.

Fun place to go, and my parents always insist when they're in town. Great dogs and fries, quick. And the outdoor seating is nice.

The food here was okay. Definitely not the best burgers or hot dogs I've had. The food was not the problem, the guy was VERY rude. It was my my first time eating here and I brought my cousin out to lunch, my treat. My cousin wanted to pay for both out meals, after only arguing about who was going to pay for a brief 5 seconds, the cashier said " I don't have time for this." The store was not at all busy, and he was being short and rude with me the whole time. NOT WORTH VISITING!!

I didn't understand the hype around Chicago dogs until two years ago when I finally partook of one on their native soil. It was the last day of a bachelor party, the previous two leaving us equal parts exhausted and hungover. The edge of a Midwest summer was thankfully dulled by the lake, but that took nothing from the oasis-like quality of the hotdog stand that delivered us from over-partied blues to almost-feeling-like-a-normal-person-again territory. I was instantly and wholly converted to the One True Hotdog camp, knowing that finding its equal outside of its home city would not be easy. Years of searching later and here we are. I hardly dared to believe it myself, but it's true: Mustard's makes a mean, legitimate Chicago dog. I considered that maybe my memory had been dulled with time, but I had the incredible fortune of dining with a former Chicagoan who gave Mustard's his stamp of approval. So, yes - the Chicago dog here is amazing. It has the peppers and everything and oh man I wish I had another one RIGHT NOW. The fries were also very good but I can't vouch for much else on the menu. Really, I don't know if I'll ever feel the need to. The place has about the same feel as a hotdog stand with the amenities of a restaurant, so don't expect anything too fancy. It's an awesome spot to grab a bite with some friends or even on your own when you're on the run, but maybe only bring a date who can appreciate the simple goodness of street food.

I have to start by saying that even though I am from IL and lived in the Chicagoland area for many years...Chicago style hot dogs are not my favorite style of hot dogs. I prefer a large meaty hot dog like Biker Jim's has. With that being said, Mustard's Last Stand does what they are trying to do...service good Chicago Style Hot Dogs...very well. Fun little atmosphere. Good food and friendly service. My only warning is BE CAREFUL where you PARK. If you park in the lot next door...that kind of looks like it could be theirs, you could be towed.

I find the Chicago Dogs to be the best ever; the veggies on top are super fresh, and the soft buns exquisite; however, it cost me $12 today for 2 dogs, a taste of fries, and a med. drink- are you kidding me? That's way too high. Oh! The fries are fresh cut daily and are awesome!!

The hot dogs were great. This restaurant is conveniently adjacent to the University of Denver.

So delicious... Steward takes the orders with a big smile and good advice. I like my hot dogs simple with just mustard... My friend wants all the meat you can dish up. We both walked away happy and full.

Being from Chicago, I figured I had to see what all the fuss was about when I moved to Denver and found this little gem. I will say, the Chicago dogs are great and their fries are pretty on point with the fries you get from back home at the divey hot dog stands. I'll definitely keep coming back here, but their prices are ridiculously high for what they offer... hot dogs. It $4 and some odd change for a Chicago dog, no kraut and no fries. I understand they can charge this much because people, much like myself, keep coming back. But, eventually we might find somewhere else just as good and *gasp* cheaper. For now, I'll keep visiting this place when I get a Chicago craving.

I have been here a couple of times. The drinks and fries are over priced. I get the veggie dog and it is okay. I tried the chili cheese fries and I could eat more than 2 bites. I wouldn't waste your time unless you are really craving a hot dog.

Since my days in college this place has been solid. Always a good dog or brat, always fresh always quick.

Ordered Chicago Style Hot Dogs, fries and drinks here. After eating Chicago Style Hot Dogs just a week ago at Wrigley Field in Chicago, no other Hot Dog could come close! The best part of the meal was the fries, which were really good. The hot dog almost tasted a little rubbery, and wasn't bad, but definitely could've been better. And, they charge for pop refills. All things considered, it was good, but not the greatest.

What's all the hub bub? It's small and nothing to write home about. Their dogs are at the bottom of my list. Fries are not blanched first so they are not crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, but burned on the ends and soaked in fryer oil. Continental Deli in Cherry Creek is the place for a frankfurter, Weiner or bratwurst.

I love this place! Best Chicago Dogs I've had...even better than the ones in Chicago lol. It's cheap an I like the outdoor seating. Line can be kinda long but it's worth it. Lush it's super close to DU

I went here yesterday afternoon absolutely CRAVING an Italian beef sandwich. I had not eaten all day and was so excited to eat one. So I decided to go to a Chicago style hot dog stand and order an Itailian beef. I was expected authentic Chicago food, but boy was I wrong. I get to the counter and my boyfriend orders a Chicago dog. The old man at the register says very rudely, "and what would you like on it?" We were both shocked and honestly should have left at that point. If you do not know what comes on a Chicago style hot dog, you should not be working at a Chicago style hot dog place. Neither of us have had ever had to explain what going onto of a Chicago dog. He added, "we don't put celery salt on, you have to add it yourself." He also asked if he wanted sauerkraut on it! Are you kidding me?!! Sauerkraut does not go on a Chicago style hot dog! We thought next he was going to ask if he wanted ketchup. He was very rude the whole time, he could have at least politely asked what he wanted as toppings. I ordered the medium or standard size Italian beef sandwich. We also ordered fries. When we received our food, I thought they served me the small size sandwich. It was puny and had barely any meat on it. I complained and the cook took my sandwich and added more ingredients on it. In front of me, the other worker was like to the cook "what are you doing?" The cook replied, "they complained, so I am fixing it". Really? Do you need to have this conversation in front of me? What happened next was the worst part of it all. When the cook added more ingredients to my sandwich, he pulled pre sliced beef out of a plastic bag. Authentic Italian beef should be marinating in the gravy at all times and left on a hot burner. The meat was precooked and left in a cooler (I assume now it started as frozen). He threw it on the grill for not more than a minute or two. The sandwich that was reserved to me had cold beef on top. Ew!!!!! I paid for cold precooked beef. I tried to eat my sandwich, but I was so disgusted by the bagged meat. I honestly wishes I went across the street and paid $8 for a Philly Cheese Steak. The only good thing about our meal was the fries. My boyfriends hot dog was puny as well and looked really gross. He got a larger and better looking hot dog for $2 from a street hot dog stand in downtown Denver the day before. In total we spent $20 on garbage food (besides the fries) and got treated rudely by the staff. The only nice employee was the cook, and I feel bad that he has to be around the other staff working there. I had to go down the street and spend $5 on two huge and delicious slices of pizza after I left this place, because my meal was uneditable and I was soooo unsatisfied. Don't waste your money here. Go to a nearby restaurant or drive to Billy's hot dog on Broadway if you want a decent hot dog. NO ITALIAN BEEF SHOULD COME OUT OF A PLASTIC BAG AND PUT ONTO MY SANDWICH!!!! DISGRACE TO CHICAGO FOOD!!!

The service was great. The guy behind the counter was nice and they were really fast about getting the food out to me. I thought the Chicago dog was a bit small and dry. The fries were okay, just a little salty. For the price it was good and the condiments were plentiful, but the hot dog itself left more to be desired.

My rating is just based on 1 visit. I may or may not re-visit Mustard's Last Stand. I came here and ordered a Chicago Hot Dog.. and well.. I was disappointed. I didn't get the radioactive lime green relish. They had some on the counter top for people to use but was not on my dog. So when I did add it to my dog it just made my bun soggy which ruined everything. The fries were great along with the cheese sauce. Next time I'll try their Italian Beef..hopefully they don't disappoint. The guys behind the counter were very nice and great energy. They have this board that you can put a push pin in if your an Ex-Chicagoan to support the dog in the part of the city you were from. So I did it. That was pretty awesome and they also have décor with Chicago sports etc. I have had better tasting Chicago Hot Dogs this place didn't cut it for me anyways. But like I said.. i'll give them another shot.

I don't eat hot dogs very often and when I do it is always plain so I am no expert on the fancy dogs. I went to Mustard's with my cousin and we had a good time people watching and eating a meal for around $10 for the both of us. We got the dog with no bun, (she got the toppings) shared a taste of fries and each had a small drink too. Quite the bargain! The staff was friendly, there is a parking lot to the left of the building and a seating area outside. Definitely a cheap and quick meal.

I am not sure if I am qualified to rate this place since I have never had a "Chicago style" hot dog in Chicago, and this place seems just completely committed to replicating that experience. That being said, whatever they are creating keeps me coming back, notwithstanding my lack of knowledge as to it authenticity. Good quality meat used, and they put a TON of good, fresh ingredients on there (peppers, tomatoes, a WHOLE pickle, sauerkraut). Sometimes there's a bit of a wait because everything is made to order, which in my eyes is a bonus because you know you will not be eating a rubbery hot dog that's been sitting around for two hours. Beyond that, I like this place because it just seems iconic to the DU campus. I am not from Denver, and am not a DU grad, but I could just picture rolling into this place at 1 AM after having a few [sodas] uptown and it being lively and packed. I am not even sure if it's open late, but that's what I am picturing anyway. So give it a try. And I am sorry for you Chicagoans if it's not authentic... I'll make an effort to investigate next time I'm in the Windy City.

Best dogs around. If you like dogs. People either love it or hate it, but I've never had a bad time here. Dogs are always juicy and you can't beat a Chicago style monster... Also if you're nice these guys will pretty much do anything to a dog you ask them. Yeah they're like that. Also it helps if you are a cute girl -I've seen this in action. Fries are skin on and legit, think five guys but I like them better -maybe they use better oil? Not sure anyhow its greasy, its not good for you but its at the right price. Parking can be harsh at times. Also who doesn't love puns.

They have the right idea but just aren't executing in the simple places. The hot dogs are good quality and well prepared but not enough relish and it wasn't Chicago stylet neon green, the corn dogs are good but small in size. My 14 year old was still hungry after eating one. The Italian beef excellent and very tasty but was so small we had to ask if it was a half portion? By far the tiniest Chicago Style Beef sandwich I have ever seen but it came with the full size price.

Ive been here once before. The menu has alot to take in. And you can order your burger anyway you want to. Ive always been partial to the Dbl Burger. They also have a Bison burger on the menu. And Hotdogs among other tasty treats. The employees are friendly and dont mind if it takes a minute for you to decide what you want. Its going to take a while for your food to be prepared but its fresh and the quality shows. The fries are hand cut and delicious. The burger i had was cooked on a grill but had this smokiness taste and smell that i cant put my finger on how they do it but yummy. The burger wasnt to greasy i ordered it with Cheddar cheese. The seating area is a little cramped and they offer outdoor seating where you can bring your dog if your out on a walk and have a hankering for a burger or dog or chili cheese fries which is awesome. And while your eating you can look on University and see friendly people walking by who wave at you which is awesome.

Nice menu selection! I had to try anything labeled a Tofu Reuben (even though I'm not vegetarian). Gotta say it was interesting - I don't eat a lot of sliced tofu - but the mustard and other condiments made me forget the sandwich had no meat in it. Reasonably priced menu. Will definitely have to try their fries next time, since almost every person in line ordered them. The staff was super friendly. And it's great to see locals/regulars - the staff knew their orders the minute they walked in the door. The outdoor patio is a great place to people watch or study if the weather is nice.

One of those fun cheap delicious hole in the wall places to go that has a very good vegetarian dog. I had the mahi sandwich one time and it was a little overcooked (tough), other than that always a good fun delicious cheap time while supporting local business.

I felt like I was watching Kitchen Nightmares!! The kitchen was sending out the wrong food to everyone, the guy taking orders was screaming at a customer and everyone was shocked. A little funny as my boyfriend and I just kind of laughed and ordered our food. 15$ for two hotdogs is a little much if you ask me and they were nothing special... and there was a hair in mine.

While their fresh pipping-hot fries are great, the jumbo hot dog with all the fixings wasn't anything impressive. It tasted fine. But I'd never crave a hot dog from here.

I don't understand all the hype! My husband and his family LOVE this place, we had to drive 1.5 hours just to eat here and he talked about it the whole way, so I was excited to try it out. I ordered a char dog, he ordered 3 Chicago dogs and my son had a teenie weenie kids meal. The fries were hard as a rock, and the sauces were GROSS! The parmesan ranch tasted like hidden valley dressing with powdered parmesan sprinkled in- yuck! The mango habanero was unbearably sweet and not even spicy...weird. Not sure what I expected from the "teenie weenie" but it was only about a 3 inch hot dog...also, the carrots that came with my sons kids meal were white, and expired...I felt like I could've made these same exact hot dogs at home for half the price. Excellent and friendly staff was the only positive part.

Because i've grown up eating hot dogs, it's not a surprise to me that would still like them as an adult. I came here before heading to a museum exhibit and quickly fell in love with their original dog. Not only is it loaded with yummies, but homemade fries come on the side. i also love how this is a family owned business and treats everyone as family :) loved the pictures on the walls and the patio out front :) love, love, love it!

If you're looking for the best chicago style hot dogs in town, you have come to the right place. The very best thing you can order here is a chardog with everything on it. Also, try the garlic ketchup with your fries.

  • Wes M.

Went to this place for the first time today and I'll definitely be going back. This is the small, greasy hole in the wall you go to for good hangover food. Do not expect to eat healthy here! Fries, burgers, Chicago dogs, Italian sandwiches smothered in beef gravy, all the good 'ol American fare and then some. Prices are decent and service is meh. The people who work at this joint may not smile all the time, but they'll make your food good and they'll make it right. Be prepared to wait a good 20 minutes during rush times (12.30 and 4.30 - 5.00 at night).

First of all: They do NOT have the Uncannily Neon Green Relish that is the centerpoint of a Chicago Dog. So I won't be reviewing a true Chicago Dog here. I'll just relay my experience and let you decide on your own. This is another one of those places you want to like. It's a roadside shack that serves dogs 'n fries at semi-reasonable prices. It's got character. And hey: they're HOT DOGS. When you get a craving for a good tubesteak, it's any port in a storm, right? Nah. Their dogs did taste of beefy goodness. There was some 'snap' to the casing. But the "Chicago" toppings: Meh. Like I said, the mission neon relish schmear. And the bun, which should have been steamed to meld-the-dog-and-toppings-together perfection, with some sear on the edge. These weren't. Just your typical Dog-Bun. Not that the dogs were bad-tasting. They weren't. They just weren't anything special. Not Chicago Dogs, either. Beefy Tubesteak does not a Chicago Dog Make. So why the 2 star rating? This was the only thing we had eaten all day. Later that night, we were quite efficiently beginning our 2-Day Intense Weight-Loss Regimen, alternating which end of our bodies was praying to the Porcelain Gods. And for the following 3 days, following a diet of Saltless Saltines, Chicken Stock, and Gatorade. Needless to say, we won't be giving Mustard's a chance for redemption.

Good food at a fair price served up by the usual college age dingleberries who could really give a fuck about much of anything except pot and Dub Step. As long as I get a hot dog and some fries in a timely manner, I have no complaints. Works in a pinch whenever I'm around DU.

Food is alright. I live walking distance so it's convenient but the 4x I've been there the two older men that work there are always very rude. This time I had an $11 order and the man accused me of taking someone else's order and the bun was soggy and the fries are usually good but they were not fresh, rather cold and gross. And don't even try saying anything, they will just talk shit to you like they usually do... One of those places that I'm afraid they would spit in your food.

  • Bob A.

The hot dogs taste like they've been sitting in water all day. That because they don't grill them, they soak in warm water. I can't think of a dirtier restaurant. The staff couldn't even remember to cook our order, if that's what they call it. This place is a dump.

  • Jarin M.

We went here because we heard they had vegan hot dogs, which my wife ordered. I got the vegan or maybe it was just vegetarian Reuben. I can't say enough how good the Reuben was. It was made with spiced slices of tofu. The way it was sliced was amazing and the flavor was very good. We also got the fries which were amazing. The atmosphere is great to, they have a nice area to sit outside. The staff was nice, and I was amazed with how fast we got our food. Overall, a great place!

If there is anything that embodies America, it is the hot dog. Mustard's Last Stand II does our country proud. Food: No, this place isn't just a haven for condiment lovers. Here you'll find hot dogs in all shapes and sizes, burgers, and fries. I sampled the Chicago style dog ( yelp.com/biz_photos/UPFF… ), the veggie dog ( yelp.com/biz_photos/UPFF… ), and the fries ( yelp.com/biz_photos/UPFF… ). If you're coming here, the Chicago style dog is a must since these Vienna beef masterpieces are their specialty. These puppies are loaded up with mustard, tomato, onion, pickle, relish, peppers and celery salt. You can also put sauerkraut on your dogs if it so suits you. The veggie dog was pretty decent. For some reason the dogs in the veggie version are much larger in length and girth than the Vienna beef rods in the meat dogs. The taste of the dog was ok, but the texture is just a little too dry for me. Finally, the fries were pretty yummy, but maybe a tad too oily and soggy. Atmosphere: They have tons of Chicago paraphernalia plastered on the walls. Expect to see a lot of newspaper clippings featuring the Bears, skyscrapers, or the mafia. The place has that dive bar feeling, like you could throw just about anything on the floor and it would be ok. Don't do that though. Service: Order at the counter. Your normal fast food experience. Synopsis: Yum. I would definitely get the Chicago dog again, probably skip the veggie, and maybe pass on the fries. The fries were good, but I definitely paid the price a couple hours later.

Okay so I'm a native New Yorker so I have a hard time with Chicago style. I got a double dog, like an idiot. The char dog is way better, my friend got it right. I think it's somewhat overpriced for what it is. Plus, 35 cents a refill? Come on. I guess someone has to pay the bills. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here though. Take a 15 minute drive to Biker Jims and get a way better dog for the same price. With all that said, the fries are pretty incredible. You should definitely eat their fries.

I ordered 3 things from here. Chicago style hot dog $3.25, corn dog $3, and an order of small fries $1.60. 2 things were decent except for the corn dog being terrible! DO NOT order their corn dog! For $3 and the place being known for hot dogs, I expected Hot Dog On A Stick quality corn dog.... NOPE! It came to me microwaved and SOGGY!! Not to mention, my stick snapped in half the moment I picked up the corn dog because the whole thing was so wet. $3 for that??? are you kidding me? When I asked about the corn dog, the staff said "yeaa... I should have warned you... but we do it to keep our frying oil vegetarian" - I dont know man... but restaurants should not serve microwave corn dogs... what difference is it to just buy my own box of corn dogs at the market for 6 bucks (10 corn dogs) and microwave it myself? Hmm... I suggest adding the word "microwave" before "corn dog" on the menu. other than that.. the Chicago style hot dog and fries were not bad and the staffs were friendly.

I have a bone to pick with 5280 Magazine. In the current Top of the Town issue for 2009 they named Steve's Snappin Dogs as "Best Hot Dog." With as much as I like Steve's (see three star review), it doesn't hold a candle to Mustard's Last Stand. Everything at Mustard's is good, from the 1/4 lb Vienna dogs to the traditional Vienna style rolls, lots of condiments - served up hot and fantastic. The fries are homemade, thick-cut and hot - although a bit limp. Mustard's outdoor patio has lots of picnic tables as well as trees for shade. Service is good and staff is super friendly. My only complaint is that they charge for re-fills on your drink (what the...). For a doggone great meal (and a free piece of apple pie on the 4th of July), Mustard's Last Stand is at the top of my list.

Great hotdogs! This place is practically an institution! I have been enjoying Mustard's for years and it is still great. The parking is a hassle but once you are inside and smell all the delicious eats you remember why you bothered with the crowds. Don't forget to try the fries as they are hot and fabulous. A perfect compliment to your loaded Chicago dog! Enjoy.

First the bad news. Parking sucks and it's all about being an ex-Chicagoan inside. Now the good news. The food is fantastic. Absolutely amazing. This will be the new standard to which all hot dogs you eat are held. And not just the hot dogs too. Great fries and amazing sandwiches. Just go. You'll see.

Any place that serves veggie dogs (especially GOOD veggie dogs) gets my vote. Fast service, delish loaded dogs and homemade fries, and good prices make for a treat... when I feel like stalking people to give up their coveted parking spot. Other than that detail, they'd get 5 stars with no question!

    (4)
  • Kristen P.

Been here several times! I like it a lot. When the weather is nice you can sit outside on the picnic tables out front. I always get the Chicago style dog and the fries. Tastes good to me and I will be back many more times when I am craving a Chicago dog!

WOW! i have to be honest, i just thought this was one of the those places that everyone talks about but was ok. I was way off. It is SO GOOD!! I got the Chicago dog and it was amazing. A super soft bun complete with tasty toppings and the Vienna beef was so good. The fries are amazing too. I got a drink, dog, and fries for under $8. My friend had the polish dog with sauerkraut and she loved it as well. I would say- order a large soda if your thirsty because there are no free refills. Parking is tricky, especially on the weekend and it will most likely be crowded, but worth the wait or eating outside. YUM!

The first time I visited Mustard's Last Stand and bit into my veggie dog, I thought for sure, "OH GOD. THEY MESSED IT UP AND I JUST BIT INTO A MEAT-DOG" ... yeah, meat-dog. Wanna fight about it? But upon further inspection, indeed there was no mistake. Just the most amazing veggie dog I've ever had. Paired with skin-on fries. And ketchup. And a bunch of other toppings (mustard, onions, pickles, hot peppers, whatever you like) if one so chooses. They also offer a tempeh burger (which I've yet to try because I'm still all about the veggie dog), and a tofu reuben. It's quite the trek for me now to hit all the way down by DU, but it's worth it when I do make it there. If you're near and haven't been, or even if you're far and haven't been--I definitely recommend making the veggie dog dream happen. ...oh, and they also have regular hot dogs for all you meat-a-saurs out there :)

Finally stopped in today since I was in the neighborhood with some time on my hands. First things first, the Sox stuff on the wall has to go. There are only 3 White Sox fans in Chicago, and this guy has to be one of them? The Chicago style hot dog was pretty good. I would have liked a bit more snap to the dog itself, and there's no relish, but overall it's passable for the real thing. The Italian Beef was really good, the bread was perfect, the giardanera was excellent with some good kick, and the bottom of the bun had the perfect soggy texture one should look for in an Italian Beef. I got the small which is well, really small and it still cost $4+. Overall, a good way to experience the foods of the motherland, although the price is a bit steep and the parking can be tough to find. I think it was $10 and change for a chicago style dog, small Italian Beef and a medium soda. Service is solid and friendly.

CORRECT YOUR POSTS ABOUT NO NEON GREEN RELISH! IT'S THERE! I was just there this week & everything is still the same. They know how to do a Chicago dog, the fries are good. It's a hotdog stand, how high are your expectations? And I'm super curious about vegetarians wanting to eat somewhere that smells like beef cooking. Most that I know can't stand the smell, because they're afraid they'll jump ship for a juicy Italian beef. Mmm. Go to Mustard's, put some freakin neon green relish on your dog & quiet yourself. I'll agree they could have some Cubs paraphernalia gracing the walls. At Chicago's on Colfax, they don't play favorites.

The place was packed inside and out at 3pm on Sunday afternoon. We each ordered a Chicago Style hot dog with all the toppings ($3.25) plus a large fries ($2.45) to share. Service was speedy though not especially friendly. We managed to nab a table, although it was right next to the restrooms which was a bit annoying. The hot dogs were excellent - tasty meaty frank smothered in fresh and crispy onions, tomato, hot peppers, relish and sauerkraut (I'll give the 'kraut a miss next time though... Just personal preference). The bun was steamy warm and light as a feather. The fries were handcut, piping hot and cooked perfectly. I'm not usually a fan of mustard but their Dusseldorf mustard was amazing! Gotta remember to buy a jar next time I'm there (I HAVE to try their chili cheese dog. It looked delicious). Good stuff!

You had me at Vienna Beef. I love Colorado, but sometimes I miss my hometown city of Chicago. This is the place that I come when I need a little piece of home. The Chicago dog is perfect down to the famous lack of ketchup style and the ever so soft steamed poppy bun. The neon green relish put a huge smile on my face and brought me back to Sox games at Comisky (long before the days of US Cellular Ballpark). My favorite part in addition to the real Vienna Beef dogs, is Mustard's Last Stands french fries!!!! Yumm, fresh cut, greasy, and crunchy with the skin still on. It's the way fries were meant to be, no crazy seasoning, just a little bit of salt! *swoon* Totally random, I love the picture of the Wrigley Field sign congratulating the World Champion Chicago White Sox, I also love the map of Chicago for those of us "Ex-Chicagoans" who want to put a tack on the location of our favorite hot dog stand back home!

As a native Chicagoan, I can appreciate a well made hot dog. This place make a really good Chicago dog and their other hot dogs are tasty, too! The service is speedy and friendly. The homemade fries are a great touch and their burgers are juicy and tasty. They have this wall covered with hot dog stands back in Chicago and it makes me miss home! I usually end up here on nights where I want to reminisce and eat a good hot dog!

This place is legit. I just love my Vienna sausages... I also love a good, greasy burger cooked semi-carelessy on a flat top grill... This place serves the kind of simple fare that fills the holes in your soul.
