Two Words: Frozen Sangria It was the perfect ending for our Sunday Funday shenanigans. That was probably the best adult slurpee I've ever had! Being that it was a million degrees outside, it was the perfect beverage to beat the heat. The staff being very friendly also helped. My friend ordered the fried chicken which I sampled, but I was too tipsy to remember what it tasted like. Guess that doesn't really help, however, she claims it was good.

Ok so I am in between 3 and 4 stars. So much was good but. There were a few buts. The restaurant itself is nice and the staff is very nice. Their wine selection is great and I'd absolutely go back for their happy hour as the prices are awesome. We started off with the bone marrow which was delicious and a very ample portion (doesn't beat Euclid Hall). We got the drunken bread which in all honesty I could have just sat in the corner eating and shouting at people not to look at me. We also got the not yo mamas nachos which were good BUT just for me, I finally like oysters raw, so this made me a little sad. Otherwise they were a fun take on nachos and delicious. There seemed to be much ado about the chicken. There was a terrific write up by a fellow elite regarding the sadness that is their "low and slow" idea to frying. My husband got the short ribs which was hands down the winner of the evening. SO GOOD. He also got a fried chicken breast. The chicken breast, while moist, was definitely greasy and the breading, not crisp. My mom and I shared the fried chicken sliders which while the chicken was more crisp, likely because they were thinner pieces, they were salt bombs. We shared the key lime tart for dessert which was good, but, there was some swipe of some sort of yogurt on the plate that actually detracted from the dessert. It tasted like 0% greek plain yogurt, which would be fine if I were trying to eat healthy at that point and I wasn't so it was interfering. All in all more pluses than minuses. Definitely check out the happy hour. Try a side of chicken before you unload $17 for a whole plate of potentially disappointing.

Came here one Sunday for brunch after the place we wanted to go had a 2+ hour line. I am SO glad that we did, because the food and service were exceptional! Our waitress was a hoot, and very helpful with trying to decide what to order off the delicious-looking menu. I ended up getting the breakfast burrito, which was the perfect upscale yet still comforting version. The crema on top was a wonderful, rich addition to the very smoky salsa. I also ordered a side of the jalapeno cheddar grits, which had good flavor, but needed salt. My friends got the shrimp and grits and the chicken wings with beignets. The shrimp and grits came with a wonderful broth that was amazing. The beignets were more like donuts - too dense to be called beignets, and covered in yummy cinnamon sugar. We all left full and happy.

I can't say enough about this place, the food is amazing, unique, and locally sourced. The service is fast friendly if a little bit sassy and definitely willing to give you recommendations. Parking is tight but they have free valet after 5 PM. And their happy hour specials can't be beat. We had the maxes cheese and the fried chicken both were amazing! Also had the chocolate mousse and Keylime pie desserts as well as their frozen sangria; All were exactly as advertised!

Met a friend for drinks after work- I really like this location as it is close to downtown but not smack in the middle of it. I am a little torn on this place.... we'll start with the bad so it can finish on a high note. The restaurant was FREEZING. I even called my friend and asked her to bring an extra jacket. While I understand it's been very warm in Denver lately, this particular afternoon was cloudy and rainy and I don't think ever hit 75 degrees. Also it was 5:15pm and not busy at all. The only excuse for a restaurant to be that chilled is if it's boiling hot outside and/or the place is totally packed. The happy hour menu items look good, the menu itself is not helpful. The top of it where they list that happy hour wines- you can't tell what is what! I enjoy wine, and have tried to educate myself a little. However, I do not know simply by the name of a producer what kind of wine it is. The fact that I had to keep going back and forth from the happy hour menu to the main menu to figure out what it was I was able to order was obnoxious. On top of that, there is a second area on the happy hour menu where wines by the glass are half of. Great! I decided to go with a Pinot Noir. The server then brought me a Chardonnay. ?!!?!? It turns out The maker of the pinot also makes a chard.... and only the chard was on the happy hour menu. However there is no mention of that on the menu. They should have it noted on there that the option is a Chardonnay (which, coincidentally is my least favorite white wine). The server was nice enough, but he mumbled so damn much I gave up on asking him questions about anything! I would catch the first two words out of his mouth and completely lose the rest. This is not a fault of the restaurant, obviously- but seriously dude. Enunciate! It didn't help anything that the volume was music being played was very loud. I order the Buffalo Sliders and side of collard greens.... The greens were truly terrible. Honestly, I could tell before I even took a bite that they weren't exciting, but I had no notion of just how flavorless they would actually be. Asked the server for salt that I never received and so when he came to clear our plates away I simply let him take the FULL bowl of greens. Sad day, I love collard greens! (When they're done right) The one thing I can say is that those buffalo sliders were freaking amazing. I wanted something simply, and the menu very simply says, "buffalo, ketchup, pickles" so I figured it was an easy bet. Man, I did not expect something like that to pack the flavor it did! The buffalo was really incredible. My friend ordered the daily taco special, which I know contained pork and pico de gallo (I don't know what else because our server mumbled away again....) She said they were your basic pork tacos- nothing to get excited over. This place has a lot going for it... and a lot going against it in my book. I think it's the kind of place I'll have to visit at least once more to get a true opinion on. We'll see!

What a great new neighborhood restaurant! There are so many happy hour wine choices - probably one of the best I've seen in a long time! The IPA and Saison happy hour beers were fantastic too! The comfort food concept appealed to us with offerings from burgers to salmon (both delicious!). We also had the shrimp nachos! Our server, Dave, could not have been any friendlier! He was so attentive and genuine. We were shocked to find out that he had only been there for four days...we can't wait to go back!!

I'm so glad to have a new wine bar in the area. I took my mom here a couple weeks ago and we both loved it! The selection is great and the happy hour isn't bad either. The calamari was different as they added some sort of spicy sauce. It was wonderful as was the cheese and meat. I will definitely be going back.

Been anxiously awaiting for Max's to open in Denver. We have been to the Washington Ave location in Houston and always love the food and atmosphere. Do yourself a favor and try Max's... You won't be disappointed. We love their wine selection. Our favorite menu items: fried chicken, fried egg sandwich, drunken bread, Mac & Cheese. Our service at the Denver location was great as well. We will definitely be back!!

Bad services. My water came with a bug in it. I ordered a glass of wine and never came. Then, I ordered a Rino Pale Ale and the waiter brought me a Coors. I did talked to the manager and he was helpful and polite

Great vibe, energy and food here. Service has been outstanding on both visits. Fried chicken rivals any in Denver! Wine and food specials for happy hour are legit. We'll be back and I'll def recommend to friends...

Tried to go last Friday. 4 open table but there was a 30 minute wait. That was ok. Maybe they were trying to find people on the wait list. Maybe there wasn't enough staff. It's excusable. What isn't excusable is when a couple got up from the bar and I had my wife and her friend sit down and the host said that there was a waiting list to sit at the bar. We promptly left and just went to vesper for a bite and cocktail. I don't care how good a place could be. This is Denver. Denver doesn't do wait lists for bar seating. Good luck max. You need it.

Love this place!! The food is always amazing, the wine is wonderful, and the service is spectacular!!! I recently had a take out order from here for my friend in the hospital, and I swear, the fried chicken is what cured him!! Haha. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good food and service!

I have been here five or six times I'd say. Things I like about Max's: - $5 wine at Happy hour (good highly drinkable wines albeit not a huge selection) - the option to open a bottle of wine if you commit to drink at least two glasses (um, ok..I can do that) - the cheese plate - the ravioli (excellent though sometimes a little dry) - the small house salad SMALL I say, not to be confused with the large Things that could use some tweaking: - Inconsistent service, sometimes inattentive - the thermostat. It is ice locker cold inside. Why you wonder? For the wine, to keep the wine cool. But without the people you don't need the wine so people first please - The music can get very loud. I have found the 80's hair band play list to be unbearable at times. More tolerable if it's not turned to 11 I like to come here, sit outside for a nice glass of wine and maybe a small bite. This is not a particularly kid friendly option so keep that in the back of your mind. But has fast become a solid local option.

If you're on a diet do not come and enjoy the delicious comfort food in massive portions. Holy grilled cheese. Seriously one of the biggest sandwiches ever placed in front of me. I love this place. Keep in mind the inside of the restaurant will be colder than normal because they keep it at an optimal temperature for all the wines openly displayed. We sat outside. I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup thinking it would be a light meal. Nope. gigantic but delicious. The cheese would drip off the sandwich. The tomato soup was hearty and perfect for sandwich dipping. We got the donuts as dessert. I know they were cut to be sized similar to munchkins but they were definitely MAXkins. Freshly fried and oh so yummy. The overall meal is pricier than an average dinner but I used a Groupon. Id love to go back for brunch.

Come here for the wine and maybe some appetizers. Our server was great. He was friendly and attentive which sets the bar pretty low but that's where it is these days. The wine selection is good and it was stressed to us that they'll open any bottle for a two glass commitment; good to know. The fried chicken is not good. Let me repeat that. The fried chicken is not good. Here's the thing, it's not just our fried chicken, it's how they actually prepare it. I asked our server about the fried chicken and he said it's the best in town. Bold words but I'm excited. What arrives though is a sad excuse for fried chicken. It came greasy and soggy. Well hold up Brian, it's greasy because it's fried - you should expect that. NOPE. It's greasy and oil laden because the oil temperature isn't high enough. Properly fried foods aren't greasy inside, they've been steamed internally. Both orders of fried chicken at our table came the same way. Once our server stopped by to inevitably ask how the fried chicken was I explained my criticism which he understood. He further validated my assumptions by telling me that the kitchen fries at 250-280F to go "low and slow". OK. So there's science, there's bad science, and then there's preying on the uninformed. This is somewhere beyond bad science. Low and slow is a famous catch phrase for barbeque where people would cook tough, shitty, inexpensive cuts of meat for a long time until the connective tissue rendered and turned to gelatin. Chicken doesn't do that. AGAIN. Chicken is not a low and slow meat. It's inherently low in fat and connective tissue. When you smoke chicken you also smoke at a higher temperature than pork and beef, somewhere in the 275-325F range. Low and slow does not apply to fried chicken. What you're left with is greasy meat and a skin that's soggy. The batter itself also wasn't a standout. Although to be fair, it's tough to give it a fair shake when it's soaking in grease and that's all you taste. I've spent 3 paragraphs on fried chicken because 1) I care about fried chicken and 2) this is not fried chicken. The collard greens were good but the mashed potatoes were forgettable. I wouldn't recommend the chicken dish. Especially not for $17. My friend who got the shrimp and grits simply said it was a 2 out of 5. So be it. We also got the mac and cheese appetizer along with the nacho oysters. Fried oysters are my least favorite of the fried seafoods. Oysters in particular are best enjoyed raw - I don't think that's an opinion, and if you disagree, your opinion is wrong. Anyhow, not bad for nacho chips with a fried oyster on top. The mac and cheese was decent but nothing to write home about or something to definitely order on your next visit. In summary - come here for wine, not for food, and I think you'll be set.

You want a hidden gem in Denver, then you have come to the right place! This was my fiancee and I's first time here. We had a friend come in from out of town to run the Pike's Peak Marathon. He made a pit stop in Denver so we tried it out and it was an experience to remember. If you told me this was a chain, I'd tell you you're lying! Our waitress Alex was great too. She made suggestions as if she knew our tastebuds. Eventually, we ran into the general manager, Chris who was equally helpful in pairing drinks and food. I didn't get a chance to take any pictures of the food cause after one bite our table would demolish that dish. Granted, you'll pay a bit extra for food here and there. Ambiance + service + flavor will make it all the worthwhile. Great place to meet up with friends or hang out for happy hour. Would recommend ordering the entire menu. :) Bon appetite!

Fab! I came this afternoon for happy hour and loved it. The decor is cool and inviting with a mix of bar seats, hi-tops, and low booth/table combos. The servers are friendly and quirky and sang along to the music - and their playlist was upbeat but not too loud and not too distracting. The wine list was great and they had 12 or so wines on happy hour for $5/glass. Their happy hour food was really good! A good-sized meat and cheese board was $8, thai-peanut calamari was $6. I ordered both and both were really tasty. The waiter refilled my water glass anytime it was missing more than 4 sips. The bathrooms were clean. They have a small patio with 6 or so tables and umbrellas on the street. They have complimentary valet. I'll definitely be back for their fried chicken. What's not to like?

I'm a sucker for good fried chicken - my mama was from East Texas (like this chain) and oh baby could she fry some chicken. First visit today for lunch about 1:30 pm. Impressions: + They fry a mean bird from scratch - $14 bucks for two pieces though - ouch! Takes a long time at lunch so be prepared. Maybe the best fried chicken I've had in Denver since Foucher's and the Kapri went kaput. + Super sweet waiter. + Excellent frozen Margarita (they have a slushy machine I'm guessing) - soooo good but $9 + Cute place. - Believe the reviews - it's freezing (I mean you could hang meat) cold. OK in the 90 degree heat today but I could see how it could be a problem. - Parking and traffic sucks - made worse by all the construction in the area - No lunch vibe at all - there were 2 other customers and about 10 staff - that doesn't bode well for lunch continuing for long. - The chicken takes awhile and there are none - zero - nada starters on the menu to nibble on while you wait. - The mashed potatoes were cold and flavorless and the greens cut way too big and need another hour in the pot. WHERE is the cream gravy?????? - A biscuit would have been so much better than 1/2 a piece of Texas toast. - Lunch for two with tip was - are you ready?? $60. I don't think so.

MAX's Wine Dive is really interesting, it's certainly not a dive, rather a laid back, less-intimidating restaurant bar that serves wine and fried chicken. It's a franchise which was a little bit disappointing. I stopped by MAX's as it's a location in the Denver Passport book. My boyfriend I aren't really big wine drinkers so we each ordered the house wine which I thought was pretty good. Our server was really knowledgeable and offered a lot of great suggestions. We came in during happy hour and we decided to order two appetizers. The food seemed a little over priced, but just from noticing food passing by us it seemed like the portions were really generous. We ordered the calamari which had a thai peanut sauce that was good, just a tiny bit too sweet for my liking but overall enjoyable and the chicken wings which had like a garlic sauce and chili batter. The chicken wings were HUGE, it definitely filled us up. The chili sauce was pretty addicting, it was spicy but had a bit of a kick. Overall, I would come back as the food seemed pretty interesting and from my sampling I was happy and full.

I was a little nervous to go, to be honest. The reviews on Yelp are clearly a LOVE it or HATE it situation. Lemme break it down: If you're expecting a dive bar, you will be disappointed. Lets get that out now. Expect a regular old clean, modern restaurant with a bar, tables, booths and high tops and lots of wine. Happy Hour was nice. 5 dollar glasses of wine (and the waiter even will let you know what the best value is!) and some happy hour food specials that I did not try. Also the waiter made sure we got one more drink in on the happy hour price without making you chug your drink. I appreciated that. (Happy hour till 630) The menu has a lot of really nice options! The prices are...high. I'll just say high. Yeah. High. In general, price-wise, I could maybe get on board. BUT the price for the size? (at least of the small plates) outside of my comfort zone. The small plates are all around 12 ish bucks. For that price I expect to at least get 4 sliders, not 3. Also, the pulled pork stuffed peppers were DELICIOUS but the teeniest portion of stuffed pepper I've ever seen in my life. We also got the charcuterie board which was great but once again, one slice of brie and a few other small morsels of cheese? Sucky for 16 bucks. Pretty good amount of meat on the plate though and keep in mind you can ask for more bread, which you'll have to do for sure. I thought the service was nice, the place is nice and I would be interested in going back to try brunch, maybe just get wine during happy hour, and maybe to try the fried chicken. Looked like a really large portion for 17 bucks and the fried chicken sliders we got were really crispy and tender. Not my favorite place. Not my least favorite place. Not really on my list of must go backs. I don't LOVE it or HATE it.

So excited to see denver finally has one! We lived down Washington and were familiar with Max's from Houston. The chipotle fried chicken was just as we remembered. The Mac and cheese also delicious! We walked in friday around 6:30 and had no problem getting a seat. Only issue of the night was waiting with a cleared table for about 15 minutes to get our check. Then waiting 10 minutes later because they rang everything up as if we were using a groupon. (Which we weren't)

What a huge disappointment. I've heard so many things positive about this place! Yet none delivered. The wine prices have a 200% markup.... But here we go again... You order the fried chicken & that took nearly an hour to cook! This " low & slow " concept does NOT work on chicken! Wrong type of meat, people! The Texas Toast was ice cold.... The mashed potatoes had no gravy, no Ranch dressing, no Bleu Cheese dressing..... My friend ordered the house salad that was nothing more than stems! I've got the picture to prove this....and for $14? The chicken was $17, for 2 pieces, if you wanted an extra piece of white meat, add another $6. A positive note, the server Tamu was the best waiter we've had in Denver in years. The music was annoyingly loud & distracting; not worth the price of admission. Vegans & vegetarians need not bother with this place.

What a great happy hour! I've been lucky enough to visit Max's on 2 different occasions. I love the concept, they really focus on good food without pretense. Also 1/2 price wines at happy hour! It looks like they change up the happy hour menu pretty frequently, I can't wait to see what else they come up with. I love the Pan Borracho, a fabulously decadent savory bread pudding. I liked their stuffed peppers so much I tried to remake them at home (full of carnitas and Cotija cheese with a chipotle cream sauce!) Honestly all the food I've eaten has been good (great calamari, fries, Charcuterie) but my favorite part is the service. Trudy and Wolfgang were my servers. Both were friendly, fun and professional! I personally found the wine list pretty hit or miss and really valued their suggestions. It made the difference between an ok happy hour and a place I hope to frequent!

Came with family. Had the sliders and max and cheese to start. Both were really good. For my meal, had the shrimp and grits which was also really good. Others in the group had the burger, fried chicken and shrimp. Didn't hear a bad thing about any item. Also had the Urban Riesling which was probably the best Riesling I've ever had. Service was also really great, very friendly and knowledgeable.

Remember that scene in Fight Club when Tyler Durden quaintly explains that sticking feathers up one's butt does not make one a chicken? Calling one's establishment a dive does not make one's establishment a dive. I was interested in the potential of a wine dive, knowing that I can easily go to Marczyk's for a decent bottle under $14-- as opposed to a low-filled glass here for the same-- but figured I'd give the benefit of the doubt and pay more for some kind of unique experience. Only the experience was lackluster, and wholly un-unique. A gentleman below described it as "trying to create a vibe," and that's exactly it. I mean, I don't know how hard they tried-- a few album covers on the wall here, the now-ubiquitous exposed brick blah blah blah everywhere else. Even their digital jukebox (Seriously?! It's not enough I'm payin' $14/glass in a joint that doesn't understand itself, I also have to pay to hear Billy Joel, "Under Pressure," or some Marley (again, seriously?!!!))-- full of garbage. Why not leverage the musical tastes and expertise of your staff with some simple iPod action? Most of this place is a simple hodgepodge of triteness you could find anywhere. What is the "hook" this joint hangs it's everything on? Nothing. No hook. No discernible advantage/reason to drink wine here. This concept, if it can be called that, misses the mark entirely. Go to the website (I had to in order to try to understand what they think they're doing) and read the first slide. I guarantee you will respond with one of the following: 1. dismissive snort-laugh 2. palm smacks own forehead 3. Napoleon Dynamite sigh Caveau or Infinite Monkey (particularly the latter) are far superior options.

Holy hell. Their Benedict is TO DIE FOR. They changed it up recently, though, and it was better with the prosciutto and sourdough. However, the mile high Benedict is also pretty delicious. You HAVE to try their Fried Chicken. The gluten free one. Seriously. I'm not even gluten free...and it's AMAZING. Check out the mimosas by the carafe and try it with grapefruit juice. You won't be disappointed!!

Don't be fooled by the promotion to buy a bottle of wine and just pay for what you drink. This is featured in the menu, and out waiter also suggested it as a good value. We selected a bottle of Merlot on our waiter's suggestion, and he again emphasized the promotion that you pay only for what you drink, as long as you drink at least two glasses worth. But the waiter left the bottle on the table and kept pouring from it. When it came time to close out we asked them how much wine was left as he said about 2 1/4 classes. So we said "great, just charge us for two classes." He expressed surprise that we wanted to do that because he left the bottle on the table, and went to check with his Manager. When he returned, his estimate of two classes had ballooned to three, which is what they put on our bill. For a $64 bottle, that's another $16 plus tax and we felt chiseled. The food is mediocre. The fried chicken is greasy and overly salted. they were out of the chicken limon . And the bison sliders are heavily over spiced and look frozen. They do have a jukebox on site, so if the other patrons have good music taste, you'll get a good music selection with your meal. Other than that, not a great experience.

My wife and I are psyched about this place opening up in our hood. The vibe is relaxed yet sophisticated with cool classic rock jams constantly on the juke box. The wine is good with a lot of really great values. And yes, they will open any bottle on the wine list for you as long as you're willing to order at least two glasses. I saw a previous reviewer's gripe about ordering a bottle and only paying for what you drink. Pro tip: Don't order a bottle. Order glasses, since that's how the promotion is actually worded. Anyway, we've found the service to be exceptional. On the few occasions things have gone wrong we've always benefitted from it. Extra appetizers, free deserts, etc. and the shrimp and grits are out of this world. My wife lived in Charleston for a while and said that these are just as good. Also love the Nacho Mama's oysters and fried chicken. The only reason it's four stars instead of five is the menu is split in a weird way so that the franchise favorites are on one side and the chef's menu is on the other, and the two of them are just kind of weird together. The franchise menu is very southern inspired while the chefs menu kind of has a bit of an Asian thing going on? Asian may be the wrong word, but it's just a little strange. My wife and I definitely prefer the southern stuff, but maybe that's just us. And did I mention how friendly everybody is? Just a real genuine set of people. The kind of place you want to do well, but also don't mind being your little secret.

Amazing service!!! My wife did not really like her entree so they replaced it and comped it! We rarely get such amazing service! We had the fried chicken sliders and they were amazing. Can't wait to go back and have more of their fried chicken! Their Cubano was very good and their homemade chips were the best I've ever had. Happy hour specials were great and we can't wait to return!

Wow! What a pleasant suprise. Can't believe this place just opened a few months ago because the service was great. I usually give new restaurants a few months to work out the kinks but they seemed like a well oiled machine here. We went here for the passport drinks, and ended up staying for dinner, and ordering many more drinks :) A few things we got were the charcuterie plate, the drunken bread, the oysters, and the short rib and potatoes. All were very delicious except the oysters-- they were a little too salty. We will definitely be back and would recommend this to anyone in the neighborhood!

I like the concept. A place to taste some wines in an atmosphere that isn't trying too hard to be sophisticated. Thus, the wine dive. Dive is hyperbole as it is very much a clean modern restaurant. That said the wine was great and I do like that they will pop open any bottle on the menu so long as you will buy two glasses. Coming here with one or two friends will make it easy to try some wines you might not have otherwise. If I'd just tried a few wines I would likely have landed at four stars. The food was a bit of a low point. I tried the fried chicken as it was clearly the featured item on the menu. It was well cooked if nothing special, the sides were what made it bad. The texas toast was barely toasted. I also feel they skimped on the butter, or perhaps it just fell into the mashed potatoes which had a tad too much. The greens were a kind of salty mush that leaked onto everything else on the plate making for a generally unpleasant meal. Dessert was good. A thick chocolate cake doodad that I forget what they were calling it. In the end, I'd give 3.5 stars if I could. Somewhere between "A-OK" and "I'm a fan." This place is so close to me that I will almost certainly return and try something else, potentially tipping me the other way. This place is new and worth a try, especially if you love wines. Having just opened, it is packed every time I walk by, but without reservations we were still seated quickly on a Saturday evening.

Max's is amazing! If you need a southern food fix'n but also feeling some champagne, this is your spot. I got the grilled cheese and OH MY GOD! I haven't had pimento cheese since moving to Denver and I was in heaven. My boyfriend got the bone marrow and it was also delicious! It's a little pricey in my opinion, which is why I give it 4 stars. My grilled cheese was $14 but overall it was great. The staff is amazing and happy to be there to serve you. Great sense of humor and all around southern hospitality. We will definitely be back! (Sorry for no pictures... It looked too good to not eat immediately!!!)

High quality, delicious food Personalized service Intimate atmosphere Groovy background music Wine selection is amazing had the best Chardonnay in my life: something La Fourchettette from Chablis, France and a stunning red from a Lebanon winery Great place for dinner with friends, colleagues, business associates as well as charming place for a romantic dinner date. About to open a juice place adjacent to the restaurant too! Couple of rough spots with wait staff still getting the rhythm and attention pacing more refined, but they've only been open barely a month, I see only great things for this place. Take advantage of the Happy Hour specials to split wines with friends; it's a great way to sample.

Very genuinely friendly, attentive, knowledgeable servers/bartenders. Great suggestions on wines by the glass. A wine bar with quality selection of wine with a casual, low key and unpretentious vibe. The Salmon Salad nicoise tasted fresh, vibrant and pleasing.

This place is amazing! Awesome wine selection, the menu is delicious. We started with some oysters which were served to perfection. Followed by an order of gnocchi and shrimp and grits. And for dessert a candied bacon Creme Brûlée in a sea of salted Carmel. Very nice restaurant in this area of town I love so much. Will definitely be back!

Loved the Fairview location in Houston... So was ecstatic they were opening a Denver location- had the Fried chicken plate there and it is so good. Went for brunch in Denver, and the food is stupid good. It's almost indescribably good. Husband had the Beignets and Wings, I had the smores French toast and added a fried chicken breast on the side. YOU MUST TRY this place... You will not be disappointed!!!

o, where do I begin? Let me start with the location: in just a short drive from our house, we were able to take broadway north to easily find our destination at Sherman and 7th Avenue downtown (Just behind the 7 news building). Parking could be difficult but we used the COMPLIMENTRY VALLET and was able to get in no trouble! The area, while ever present with concept restaurants, it still felt like a welcoming NEIGHBORHOOD. Great vibes the moment I stepped out of the car. The building: is a modern rendition of a loft/wine cellar. Complimented with warm burgundy tones and the cool greys of steel beams, the exposed brick is a standout feature of the decor. Upon entry you are greeted and sat by a hostess. There is ample seating including the bar, high top tables and an expanse of booth/banquet seating for the low top tables. The Experience: was SUPERB! We are not well educated "Winos" so we initially struggled to decide on a specific wine (there were hundreds to choose from). However we were guided through the list of potential wine interests by our accredited smolea who took the time to investigate our preferences, provide tastings and ultimately the most spot on service we could have asked for. A shout out to "Tamu" the great wine guru: "You Rock!" Our food was amazing, my husband selected the short-rib dinner and I the salmon! The short rib was a heafty portion of perfectly braised beef, served with velvety smooth mashed potatoes, roasted carrots and topped with what I called "horseradish snow"! Seriously you could not have put enough of it on that dish... come on blizzard! ;-) Oh, and my salmon could not have been any better...simply put; it was perfect! (Well, if perfection were a crispy pan seared bottom and fall apart n flaky tender salmon fillet with a side of refreshingly nutty quinia-cashew pilaf?) We had the pleasure of meeting the Executive Chef, Kevin J.Savoy who has been the master mind behind many of the dishes at Max's and one of the new additions was the HoHo Torte! OMG, can I say there hasn't been this much moaning since "When Harry met Sally", lol...just saying. ;-) This is not a place to head to on a whim, but it is perfect for date night or a celebration. I would recommed Max's Wine Dive any day if the week and twice on Tuesday!

The first trip to Max's Wine Dive was just to try a few appetizers and get a glass or two of wine. The fried oyster nachos are definitely a reason I will keep going back! We also got the stuffed peppers, which unfortunately came out cold, but that didn't stop us from finishing the plate of them either. The second visit was with my Denver Passport so we had buy one glass of wine get one free. I don't remember what I picked, but it was just alright. I'd like to give their wine list another chance, but so far I haven't been extremely impressed with any of my choices. For dinner I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup, definitely a fan of the grilled cheese, but the tomato soup didn't beat my Mom's. My boyfriend had the fried chicken and was a big fan. Overall have had some successful meal's with a few bumps to be expected by a new restaurant working out the kinks. Would recommend, and will be going back.

Fun place. Great happy hour. LOVED the oysters on the tortilla chips! Best service in town. I wish their high tables were low tables. I wish the bench seating...that there tables were further apart. I hate being able to touch the people sitting next to me. Happy hour portions were large. Love the music & the vibe. Fun place. Hip yet relaxing.

This place is yumm-o to the max! Pun intended. Such a great addition to the neighborhood. Came here Thursday for burgers and wine. Delicious. Returned tonight for drinks and ended up with some very flavorful bone marrow compliments of the kitchen and have been eying the massive charcuterie board and fried chicken next to me. They have a juke box. They have friendly staff (yay Jonathan). They have a huge, interesting wine list. It's walking distance from my house. I'm in heaven. Or in trouble.

When you hear wine dive you expect a comfortable, homey location owned by locals. Not at Max's. While this place is in a small neighborhood surrounded by great local restaurants, it has the feel of a corporate chain. Max's is what you would expect if TGIF decided to open a wine bar. It seems like it would be a much better fit in the suburban landscape of Park Meadow rather than the Governor's park area. The atmosphere aside there are some redeeming qualities at Max's. The happy hour wine prices are downright cheap. If you venture in, this is the time to go. The staff was friendly if someone confused by the fact that I don't consider a gulf oyster a prized delicacy, or something I am willing to eat. The rest of the menu is limited to options that are difficult to pair with wine.

They have a new summer time keylime with fresh blueberry tart. If you love sweets, you will love this. I do! They also have some other desserts. I can't wait to try.

I'm so glad this place opened just down the street from me! Their HH is good as is their food. I would say the service is okay. But if you can get someone's attention, totally worth coming here!!

Newer restaurant, they still need to work out some kinks. Went on a Monday during their "industry brunch", had an ok burrito, my partner had eggs Benedict on toasted sourdough, his was amazing.

Unfortunately this is a great example of how one manager or employee can destroy a great experience. So before you go let me repost what "Chris" the manager that night said to our table when our gals asked about the temp in the restaurant and the very loud music. Chris perhaps said it best as he said rather loudly and aggressively "YOU need to understand Max;s concept - It's cold because we have 50 thousand dollars of wine on our shelves, note not in coolers, and it's LOUD because that is what Max wants and he doesn't want to hear you complain so just deal with it. So thanks to Chris Max you are getting one star and it is a shame because it should be a 4 or a 5 with the right folks in the front of the house and a bit more customer service. It's not like we asked for the music to change or even turn down a lot and if you are going to have a cold restaurant take a page out of New York's 230 5th and provide robes for delicate gals. Adios Max and your Texas concept we won't be back until you get some professional, respectful and grateful folks running your Denver location and perhaps a retraining session for your existing management is in order. If you go wear a jacket and don't complain else Chris will school you on Max's concept too. Ciao!

I discovered Max's about 6 weeks ago. This place is awesome! Wine list second to none, fantastic atmosphere ( juke box with The Clash , Tom Petty, The Ramones, Etc...). Very attentive wait staff. And the food.. Incredible! There motto is 'champagne and friend chicken, why the hell not?' And that fried chicken... OMG! The truffle Mac and cheese literally ( yes, not kidding had me sopping up every last bit with ( I'll say bread, but if you must know it was my fingers ) The Pan Boracho is out. of. this. world. Seriously... Bread, prosciutto, cheese and wine. It's certain to turn a bad day upside down! Daily happy hour offers many choices of $5 wines many 1/2 price glasses of higher end wines. And $3 glasses of beer. Their staff has unequivocal knowledge of wine and will happily bring out tasters of a few if you are unsure of what you'd like! Happy hour menu changes frequently and offers and incredible 1/2 size charcuterie board with house made jams and toast, Fried calamari, buffalo chicken lettuce wraps .. They offer valet parking and are centrally located. Do yourself a favor and try this hopping place Oh! I almost forgot about the brunch!!! Smores French toast! Mile high Benedict featuring rib eye. RIB EYE! For brunch! The so offer an industry brunch on Mondays for when that weekend was just a little bit too much fun I encourage you to treat yourself and try this place!

Fun rock and roll on the juke box when we arrived. Inviting. Friendly welcome at the door. We ordered the fried chicken and the braised short ribs. Chicken was spot on and the collard greens and chipotle honey were a great surprise. The braised short ribs were lovely and the fresh shaved horseradish was perfect. We had a bottle of Champagne at dinner and a few drinks before. We finished it with fresh made doughnuts with Nutella dipping sauce. Yum! Noticed that they had a killer early and late Happy Hour. I'll be back for that. PS. clean bathrooms too!

We sat in Max's and tried to figure out who this concept would appeal to, then came on Yelp and saw 5 start reviews and discovered who these people are. A wine dive from Texas. Fried chicken and wine? Sorry this will never work. We made the mistake of trying the Mac and Cheese and I still can't get the taste of fake truffle oil out of my mouth.

I was surprised at how greasy and expensive the food was. The gnocchi was drenched in oil and fried, and while the bison sliders had a kick, they were also soaked in grease. The servers were a little pushy in trying to get us to finish up (we didn't order wine because it was overpriced), and staff seemed disingenuous. We were psyched for a new neighborhood restaurant, but you'll find better value and quality of food (and service) at Angelos. Hopefully these qualities will improve over time!

I was looking forward to trying this place but a bit disappointed. The fried chicken was dry, the shrimp in my Shrimp & Grits was overcooked and my husband's burger was bland. $91 later we had an average meal with OK service and an average ambiance. Definitely not a good value for the quality of food. Wish it was a place we would return but unfortunately won't be back.
