I just have to say how much I like donuts - this place is right by my work and I love getting a latte and a yummy donut- I like the chicks that work here too....super nice to me ...only bad thing is they close early - wth I need a tasty treat in the afternoon ... Oh well I still love it .....

It is such a shame that I have to leave a 2 star review here. With more than 80 years in the business of donut making, you expect them to have the best donuts here in Denver. Unfortunately, I had horrible donuts just the other day. Oh I don't know what I did to be punished with a stale donut and overly sweet glaze that made my tooth ache. I was disappointed. Furthermore, there donut shelves were almost empty. Only a few selections were available. Well, it seems like business isn't doing well, which is not a surprise because their donuts are really bad.

I am a very infrequent donut eater. Usually only if I'm frustrated/anxious about something and feel like I deserve a very rare calorie splurge to make myself feel better. After a totally frustrating trip to West bumf**k Lakewood pursuing a useless warranty claim this A.M. I'm driving back to Denver and pass the Lamar's at 6th and Santa Fe. There is a rare parking place in their tiny lot so I jump on it. It's only 9:45 a.m. but the selection is already very limited but I snag a cream cheese filled Lamar bar and a lemon filled bismarck - $4.52. Both were honestly pretty tasteless except boy were they "make my teeth ache" sweet. Didn't finish either one. Counter girls were sweet and efficient though and I didn't have to stand in line for an hour like at Voodoo. I honestly don't think Lamar's are any better than Safeway's ($1 for two with Safeway card) and three times the price - meh. I think I am probably just not much of a donut aficionado.

Have to downgrade this Lamar's location. When you're a "Donut" store, at 10 am on a SATURDAY, and your shelves are EMPTY? It's a joke. I don't eat doughnuts very often, and I'd like to know that the store I go to on the rare occasion that I want one will actually HAVE them. So, this Lamar's is off my list.

Good donuts, excellent and friendly service. Denver has a serious shortage of donut shops, so I am happy to make a short drive out of downtown to Lamar's.

So I came here for the first time a few weeks ago and was fully prepared to write a 4-star review for Lamar's until we came back today. It's 10 A.M. on a Saturday and we walk in and Lamar's is literally cleaned out of donuts. One rack of chocolate glaze and sugar are all they have and cases of empty racks. We ask them if they have any more they are making and told quite bluntly, "No. This is all we have." Really, Lamar's? You're kidding, right? It's Saturday morning and you aren't making ANY more donuts? I mean you ARE a donut business are you not? Apparently not. We walked out and drove to a nearby Winchell's since Lamar's is obviously having a going-out-of-business sale. At least they were FULLY loaded with fresh baked donuts and a helluva better selection. Should change their name to LAME-ars.

Second to none doughnuts, but VooDoo might be their competition. Very good doughnuts and really affordable options. Right next to the 6th freeway, so a pretty nice pit stop before taking a long trip west of Denver. Wish you didn't run out so fast sometimes, but it happens when tasty doughnuts are on display. Staff is friendly, so keep up the good work guys...

I was "glazed and infused" trying the the pumpkin glazed donut and the Bavarian infused chocolate donut, both were delightfully delicious, not too sweet but a taste bud explosion! If looking for a sweet bite in the area, don't miss out- you also have to try the apple fritter it is ridiculous!

Walking through the doors of LaMar's Donuts is like traveling through time; where inflation has run rampant, the dollar has crumbled, and a dozen doughnuts costs $17. What's that, you say? It's still 2013? When did donuts get so expensive? If I didn't already feel bad about my fat self by buying a dozen doughnuts, now I have to explain it to my bank account. And apparently telling someone at LaMar's to "mix it up" when getting a dozen doughnuts is like telling a bartender to "surprise me". Thanks for 8 different varieties of glazed donuts, a lot of imagination went into that selection. Had I not requested some maple bars and a jelly, I would have a dozen glazed donuts. Maybe a cake doughnut would have been nice. Maybe one of those pink ones over there. Sprinkles, perhaps? Put some color in there! The doughnuts were good, but does a bad doughnut exist? Not your small town doughnut shop, just your typical fast food chain doughnut shop with fast food style customer service.

Delicious! Would go again and recommend as well. Good prices, service and clean shop.

Whoa. There's a lotta fried dough up in this place. And a lot of flavors too. On a recent brutally early morning I decided a sugar rush would be a perfect pick me up so I swung into Lamar's Donuts and picked up a half dozen of the treats for me, some friends, and for me later. They are clearly getting into the fall spirit as one of the offerings was pumpkin spice which went promptly into Sir Nicholas' tummy as he looooves pumpkin. I managed to get a sour dough old fashioned donut though and man was it delicious. I will be back.

The donuts get 5 stars but the parking can be a little tight and over crowded leaving me with no donuts and driving down the street. BUT if you find a parking spot and get in the line usually moves pretty quick and the employees are friendly.

Good donuts. Reasonable price. 3 stars because they run out of choices too quickly.

I picked up a dozen of the manager's special for some co-workers on my last day of work. For $15, I had 6 of the biggest donuts I think I had ever seen... or any of my coworkers had ever seen. It was really like getting two dozen, since everyone cut theirs in half. My co-workers loved them. The staff is always fast in the early morning. The donuts themselves: yummy. I don't eat a lot of donuts as I stick to healthier food fare, but every once in a while, these just hit the spot.

For donuts as big as your head! These puppies are way too sweet. The donuts taste like they are made of 90% sugar. I got there at 9am and they were down to 5 donut choices. I asked, "Why don't you have more donuts?" and the clerk said, "We've been busy this morning." Really? A Tuesday, on a non-holiday. It seems like better planning could be happening. The service was great, very sweet girl. The coffee is comparable to McDonald's. If you typically eat 2 to 3 donuts you'll be glad to know you can order just one here and you may not be able to finish it. I've never seen donuts this big before. In my humble opinion the price is a bit much for such average sugared bread. I've defiantly had much better donuts. Oh, side note: For 4 donuts the clerk had to see my ID before I could use my credit card, and checked my face to see that it was really me in the photo. Weird but whatever.

img248.imageshack.us/img… Look at the link above and you will find the image that sums up Lamar's for me. I wish I could be machine-fed their donuts until I exploded. Mmmmmm.....donuts. My favorites are the Rasberry Bismarck, either with or withour icing, the Old fashioned Sour Cream, any Cruller, and the palin-old glazed. If you hit it at the right time you may be lucky enough to get some donuts right out of the oven. If you are there during this time I recommend sitting down to enjoy some knee buckling good eats. Unfortunately, there are times when you can arrive to a store that has ravaged of the majority of its donuts. This is indeed sad. However, you can rest assured that someone, somewhere is happily red lining their cholesterol levels.

If you're ever in need of a donut covered in crushed Snickers bars, go to Lamar's! I stopped in this location to pick up wildly delicious and less than healthy snacks for a customer event. We were able to pick up a couple dozen delicious donuts, a gallon of coffee with cream and sweeteners, all with a smile for a sweet price. This is a convenient location that's only downfall is the super busy intersection leading to honks if you try to turn into the parking lot off 6th Ave.

The donuts are huge, fresh and yummy! The coffe is meh, at best. Take a box to go and you're guaranteed to have a great day!

Half of the first star is for never getting anything better then service that makes me feel like I'm bothering them and the other half is for not knowing what a "bakers dozen" is. The second star is for what could be considered a four star doughnut but looses value with poor service and a lazy afternoon staff every time I go in!

My chocolate glazed donut was a little dry, but since this is the only donut place we've found here ... I'll take what I can get. I know it was a little late in the morning, but I still think it was a recipe issue and not a timing issue. I was also disappointed because either they'd run out of blueberry cake donuts or don't have them -- sadness! I guess there's just really no replacing Shipley's in my heart (stomach?).

We went on a Sunday- they seemed to have a full selection, just less- 1/4 of the cases were full. Great flavors- liked the cake donuts the best- pumpkin, sour cream (with a great tang and my fave) and raspberry filled- real raspberry not just raspberry flavor. Good coffee for a donut place. Nice area to eat in. They're sweet- BUT THEY ARE DONUTS! I'll go back for the sour cream for sure!

I have never had a better chocolate cake donut than the ones they sell at Lamar's. And I doubt I ever will.

Lamar's started out in Kansas City. They had this tiny gas station of a store off of Main Street that was notorious for their long lines. On particularly rough mornings, I would succumb to its siren song, fight the line, and get my grubby hands on an original glazed or a long john (or sometimes both). And then, one day, the worst thing EVER happened - the store shut down. They moved around the corner, but it wasn't the same. It's taken me years to get over the fact that the original shop closed its doors. Imagine my surprise while driving home from my Weight Watchers meeting in Lakewood along 6th (I only wish I was kidding), what would appear but a Lamar's. Despite moving 600 miles to the West, they're still trying to woo me back! And massacre my dieting attempts! Their donuts are phenomenal. No kidding. Ask Willard Scott. Plus, they serve Dazbog Coffee. I highly recommend them when you're in need of a donut fix!

Here's the thing. Like AJ says, this place is all about the chocolate-cake donut. They are the Krispy Creme of chocolate cake donuts. If I do something stupid and need to apologize, a dozen chocolate cake donuts from Lamars are better than roses. Sure, I've tried their other donuts and they're good, but I'm telling you people, the chocolate cake donut is where it's at. Oh yeah, they also have coffee.

I love Lamar's cake donuts with chocolate icing and peanuts. They're close to perfect. The donut has a slight crust that I absolutely love. I brought a mixed dozen to work last week and even the most health conscious of colleagues tore into them.

If they don't have what you want you can call the day before and they will make it for you. Awesome!!!

Ah... donuts. They tempt us so. However Lamar's is not a place to fulfill one's craving. Their selection is not tremendously interesting or enticing. Get your donuts at Safeway. A cheap and a better selection.

The best glaze donuts i've had in a long time! only bad thing is that sometimes there is a huge line out the door with customers.... but that's only b/c i'm impatient for these delicious donuts.

We came here with visions of delicious, fresh Saturday morning donuts. Unfortunately, we left with bready and flavorless sugar bombs. Put to the Pepsi challenge, I think Lamar's would get beat out by generic grocery store donuts.

I always think i love donuts, but then I get a few and can only eat half of them because they are so sweet. I love the Raspberry Bismark donut at Lamars, it is so delicious. The filling is sweet and tart and the glaze is a yummy finish to the confection. The only donut I have had there that I didn't particularyly enjoy was the apple fritter. It looked like they took a Winchells apple fritter and ran over. They are by far my favorite donut shop.

The buttermilk donut is hands down the best I've ever eaten!

Can't imagine a bad doughnut. Lamar's has a great reputation and the doughnuts are good. Like some others have pointed out, the service is hot and cold.

Added a star because I found out that they will customize my jelly donut so that it is PERFECT for my tastes! Who could ask for more???

Quality donuts, I especially liked the Apple Spice cake donut. Coffe was eh...service was double eh.

I thought I was in heaven when I first entered Lamars. After paying far too much for 2 donuts, my roommate and I had a taste test. I had the raspberry filled and he had the bavarian creme filled. Well, we both couldn't finish them because they were so sweet but filling. I really liked it, and have been back for more but Lamars only gets 3 stars because of 1. poor customer service (including strange opening hours) 2. overtly high prices and 3. no selection if you aren't there when they open. Worth a shot, but get there early!

  • Alisa W.

I am a self proclaimed donut snob, and Lamar's (w)holey met and exceeded my expectations! Lamar's certainly "donut" deserve only 3.5 stars! I had a hot cinnamon glazed cake donut, and it seriously melted in my mouth! The staff was friendly and the facilities clean! For a warm, fresh, classic donut, Lamar's puts voodoo to shame! They've captured the essence of sweet simplicity with their delectable (w)holy creations, and "Donut" delay, come get a donut at Lamar's today!
