pretty darn good bbq! i went here after golfing at city park golf course after a recomendation from some one who had been to the one in boulder.....i wasnt disappointed- staff was nice and courteous and took the time to explain the menu and the sauces- the only down side was the lack of stocking (no forks) and they definately needed to sweep ( but hey it was right after lunch so i wouldnt hold it against them!) overall it was wonderful. great bbq, good wood smoked and the pork shoulder was wonderful- it was a wednesday and i did have the pleasure of trying the chilli! bomb! pretty good texas bean chilli with a nice spicy twist... definately satisfied with my purchase.

At the last minute I had 10 people showing up to my house for lunch and no food so I did what I could and ran around the corner to KT's. This was my first visit to the restuarant and I could not have been more impressed. Gaby (SP) Asia were exemplary examples of customer service. They were knowledgable, helpful, effecient and just so great. The food was also phenominal! We had two orders of the family picnic nic, a rack of ribs, the beans, coleslaw, brownies, keylime pie and the most delicous lemon aid. Thank you KT's. This was my first visit, but it won't be my last! The Wheeler Family

Food is alright at best. Beans way over seasoned, pork not seasoned at all. Sauce is a bit too watery and vinegar tasting. Nothing you couldn't make better yourself. Nice place and atmosphere, convenience is the best feature.

I'm not sure fast BBQ is a good idea. The slow process is what makes it do good. Small selection, over priced and the food was dry and flavorless. The staff was non existent and I just don't think I will be going back.

My ribs were dry and generally unimpressive. My husband likes the june bowl but to me it was a big blended pile of messiness in styrofoam. I didn't like it --- but lots of other people apparently do.

Clean Strip mall location. Food was good/strip mall type BBQ. It certainly wasn't a tried a true smoked bbq place to eat, but, much better than the Carl's that's right next door. I had the BBQ Chicken Salad. Almost looked premade. Suggestion: Put a sign on the sweet tea! For somebody who doesn't like sweet tea, this was really good. That said....I'd like to know what I'm getting.

Wow, do I love this place! I don't write reviews often but my last experience here was perfect. Used yelp to find a location I didn't know in that part of town when a friend was visiting from Texas and wanted to test our BBQ before she left. The woman who helped us, CiCi was very friendly and took great care of us. The June Bowl is my go-to and it's deliciousness in an affordable hefty pint. If you like BBQ, and get a chance to go, definitely give this place a try! Needless to say, my Texan friend was impressed too.

I don't know if my tastebuds have changed or if they are making food differently here, but the food has been a bit too spicy for me, the meats have consistently been dry, and the sides seem lackluster. Bummer.

YES they have a DRIVE-Thru. But we opt to go in to order instead. Hubs wanted some Beef Brisket and since we don't want to travel far, to this establishment we went. We opt to have our order TO GO. That recent visit was on Wednesday November 19th 2014. As usual for every transaction or purchase, I want a receipt, unfortunately, they ran out of the "receipt paper" that evening. Time was about 18:40hrs ish. From what I could recall we ordered the following items : * 2 orders of Texas Beef Brisket BBQ Sandwiches ($6.40) each, hence it was $12.80. If I could recall correctly, I opt to have my Beef Brisket BBQ Sandwich, with Pickles and Jalapenos, while Hubs opt to have Pickles, Onions and Jalapenos in his order of Beef Brisket BBQ Sandwiches * 1 order Cole Slaw ($1.70) * 1 order Kirk's Killer Beans ($1.70) Both orders come with a BBQ Sauce each. I forgot to ask them about the SPICY BBQ Sauce, that I heard about but aren't sure if that evening they offer those or not. Oh well. Before I could take the pictures of the Kirk's Killer Beans, Hubs already devoured it. Overall, Decent BBQ Beef Brisket Sandwiches. Both Hubs and I like it. 3 STARS. NOW, If ONLY they are open on Sundays, in which they are NOT aka CLOSED ON SUNDAYs. *SIGH* KT's BBQ - Denver Location 4030 N Colorado Blvd, Denver, CO 80216 Tel : (303)-355-5483 KTsBBQ.com @222/2014

#GEM! Five stars for their epic creation the "June Bowl." It's like a BBQ parfait, it's so delicious. It's layers of various BBQ goodness from buttery mash potatoes to crunchy coleslaw mixed with meats and sauce. Beans are available too which my boyfriend enjoys but I opt out of. My boyfriend is a frequent visitor and now I am too! We usually grab a June bowl to share on the way down from snowboarding and it's soooo affordable! A little over $10 and we both get stuffed. All the meat that goes in the bowl is bomb but my favorite is having hot links! Their hot bbq sauce hits the spot for me and I haven't had such a great sauce anywhere butttttt I might be biased since I boycotted against most BBQ sauces/places for a while.

Several reviews mentioned poor service however, the gentleman that helped us this evening was very accommodating and friendly. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich Elvis-style (they add coleslaw to it, and they do it for free!) my husband had a rib combo plate. The mashed potatoes are very good and then beans are alright. We are I'm agreement that it is very solid for what it is, and what it is is fast-food, inexpensive BBQ. If you have correct expectations than I think you will be pleased with what you get. If you want not fast food, high quality you might not be thrilled. (Btw, if you want amazing, high quality BBQ then head to 3 Sons BBQ on Race St... INSANE brisket.) (Mini key lime pie was a little disappointing.)

Stopped in for dinner and had one of the "light sandwiches" which is just a smaller amount of meat for a smaller price. The serving size was perfect for me. I had pork but I was not thrilled with the sauce; it had an odd flavor, almost chemical. It wasn't horrible; just not my cup-o-tea. I had a side of mashed potatoes and they were garlicy, creamy and good. Maybe next time I'll try the ribs or something different for my entree. Service was fast and no complaints there.

Came here Saturday around 430 for a quality seniors dinner. Our friend raves about KT's and how it's his favorite place and so we figured we would check it out. Coming from I-70, it's super easy to find and get to. We walked in and were the only customers. The lady behind the counter was very friendly and welcomed us. As we were deciding what to try, she put together a tray of most of their meat offerings with the paired sauces. As I don't eat pork, I left most of the samples for my husband but enjoyed the brisket. I settled for a brisket sandwich combo with red mashers and coleslaw. My husband got the hot links sandwich with chips and the baked beans (his face was sweating at the end of the meal from the spice but he really enjoyed both). Everything was very good and very filling for under $10 each. The sweet tea/lemonade combo I had was by far the best Arnold Palmer I've ever had. Not too sweet and the lemonade had pulp (yay!). Overall everything was very good and I wouldn't hesitate to return, but I don't think it tops my 'favorite' list. I miss some good 'ol bark on my meat and this had none.

I'm not a huge fan of BBQ, but tried this place since it was close to home. Was very clean. We were greeted promptly. Menu was easy to read and order. I had the brisket sandwich! It was tasty! The spice was just right! Meat was so tender! My husband tried the ribs! He enjoyed every bite! We thought we'd have leftovers but we didn't. Everything was so good! We ate it all! I read that the ribs were dry for some, but ours were great! We also had the coleslaw and potatoes both tasted great! At the end of the night I still kept thinking of my meal. My food was so good. Usually after BBQ I can taste it all night long. Oh and sometimes have heart burn! Ewe! Not here. We will definitely be back. This food was better than some of the fancy BBQ dine ins we go to! Go have some! Eat pig!!

Kt's is BBQ to perfection! I go at least once a week and they never fail me. I get the June bowl on a consistent basis. You pick up to 3 types of meat and up to 3 sides then they throw it all in a large cup. I typically enjoy hot link, brisket, mac and cheese, and beans.

  • J R.

My favorite BBQ place. The BBQ is great, the baked beans are the best.Great prices. They have three types of sauces to top your dishes.

Awesome service! We were first time visitors and they gave us a free sampler to help us decide what to order. It made our decision harder, however, because everything was delicious! We had brisket sandwiches, potatoes, and key lime pie for dessert! Huge plus: they have sweet tea! I've had a lot of barbecue in Tennessee... And this was just as good!

  • Rachel M.

KT's is one of those places that is kind of in an awkward spot so can easily get forgotten about, which they do not deserve! The June bowl is such a steal: an entire pint full of meat and all the necessary BBQ sides and sauces! All of their sides I've had have been delicious, and I usually get the pulled pork.

    (4)
  • Rusty T.

Wow! Might be my new BBQ place! Delicious and very good prices!! I had the June bowl with pulled pork, brisket, hot links, baked beans and cole slaw! Over two pounds of food for right around $10!

KT's BBQ is A-OK for a quick BBQ fix. The thing I enjoy about the BBQ here is actually the heat. Both the sauce for my ribs and the side of black bean chili I ate were spicy which is the way I prefer my Q. Just a side note - the chili is only available on Wednesdays, but on that day you can get it as a side or a while bowl. The meat in the chili is pulled pork so it's a bit different than most traditional red chilies, but still good. As many people have pointed out the meat can be a bit dry without the sauce, but the sauce is flavorful which means dipping into it isn't a bad thing. And they do have good sweet tea so that's a bonus. I'd recommend against the lemonade though - it tastes like it came from a powder mix. All in all I wouldn't make any specials trips out this way for KT's, but if I was in the 'hood and craving BBQ I would stop in again.

My boss ordered us sandwiches from KTs as a treat and I have to say I was not overly impressed. I had the brisket Elvis style and specified onions no peppers,my sandwich arrived with jalapenos and NO onions. My co worker got the same brisket sammy with peppers and got 3 pepper rings. Another co worker got the pulled pork which she said tasted good but they forgot her onions -starting to see a pattern here? I liked the sauce they included because it wasn't thick, didn't think it made sense to charge a buck and a half for a tiny cup of cut up hot links (a side) and no napkins or utensils were included COME ON THIS IS BBQ I need a roll of towel for Pete's sake. So all in all not impressed at all, food was okay but not slappin good.

good not great, very misleading menu. the mike's special highlights a 1/2 lb sandwich, with 2 sides and a drink for 11.60 which for the 11.60 price I thought was a good value, however the 1/2 lb includes the bread as well. kinda sneaky and deceptive. when I questioned the staff, they replied, it's kinda a fine print issue, and you are not the first one to complain. in my mind that's just not right. buyer beware

  • Alex V.

The bbq was pretty mediocre, but to be expected. However, staff was making a raucous the whole time I was there and the noise was clearly disturbing all of the store patrons. I won't be dining in again.

Closest, easiest place to eat from I-70 toward Denver zoo - that is easy to explain and a quick meal I met some friends from out of town, and simply needed to quickly eat since i was late to the party! I said - basically i want a brisquit sandwich! I didn't even read the menu, just told the guy behind the counter that that was what i wanted! It was tasty and darn quick! Clean location, a good amount of parking, friendly staff Sauce on the brisquit was tasty, but needed more!

3.5 stars. It is not the best BBQ but still pretty good for fast food BBQ. The brisket and pork are my fave here. The meat can be a little dry without the sauce but they have a few to choose from and are all very good. I only get the mashers side so not sure what the beans and slaw are like but my hubby likes them. He did mention they are basic but not bad. The mashers are best with the sauce as well. My favorite thing that they offer is the bowls. They put 2 sides, meat and sauce in a bowl, layered... I love it. I usually get double mashers, 2 meats (pork and brisket), and the Memphis sauce (tangy) and it is yummy! I love how they inter-layer it. I have tried all the meats except the links and chicken so know nothing about those. They serve you at the line when you order and you get your own drink. Hard to judge their service but they are always nice and friendly when we go. It is a fast food BBQ place so it is decorated as such. They have tables with plenty of room and have set up in the patio which is nice now that the weather is getting nice. I would recommend this place for lunch or fast food BBQ but not for a sit down dinner.

Here's what I love about KT's: The divine creation know as the "June Bowl". June was probably my kinda gal, because this goddess of BBQ had the creativity and ingenuity to craft a virtual parfait of BBQ goodness. Layers of meat and beans and sauce and meat and mashed potatoes and sauce and slaw and meat and .... goodness. Layers and layers of goodness. It's a total gut-buster, so come hungry. BBQ is such a polarizing food genre. Get three people debating about which BBQ style is best, and you'll likely get 3 different answers. Get three people who agree on a style of BBQ, and they'll likely have 3 different favorite places to eat it. That being said, I'm not going to try to sell you on KT's. They're sorta a jack-of-all-trades, not specializing in any particular style (generally a no-no IMO). They have several sauces including vinegary Memphis (my fav), texas (ok) and a firey spicy BBQ that I'm not crazy about. But I do encourage you to try the uniquely awesome June Bowl.

June bowl with brisket, pork and sausage. Sausage was flavorful and excellent. Brisket and pork were moist but tasteless. The Texas sauce was great. Ribs were not as good as what my neighborhood Chinese restaurant offers. Price for two came out to be over $24. For that kind of cash, I'll stay home and make my own, better, BBQ.

What a delightful surprise to my detour. I was avoiding traffic down Qubec the other day and took Colorado; I was simply famished and saw carls jr in the distance. As I got closer I saw a sign for BBQ, and thought let's try something new. As you walk in to KT's you get that good BBQ restaurant feel; wood floors, tin awning (inside), and BBQ sauce on the table. To make it better, it is fast food style. The menu is simple (in the good way) and the service is quick. I got a brisket sandwhich, holy cow (or pig, I should say) yum. My husband got the ribs. Okay, the ribs just fell right off the bone. Their sides are fresh and made on site. Red skin on mashed taters and beans that are like the spoon good. To make the experience even better, KT's offers BBQ school. SCORE!!! At BBQ school you get a crash course in how to make tremendous BBQ, ample amounts of BBQ and soda while in class, and a few other goodies. If you don't want to trek to KT's itself you must check out BBQ school, it sounds like a giant win.

Simply put, N-O. This is not the good stuff. I'm sure these folks mean well but this BBQ is not up to snuff. Ribs- Pretty sure these are boiled. They do get a little credit for presumably putting them in a smoker afterward so they get a little char. Brisket- Dry, little to no seasoning. You have to drown it in sauce. That should be optional. The meat should taste good on its own. Chicken- It was dry as heck but it was fine overall. Potatoes- A few times in my life I've had bad mashed potatoes. This was one of those times. It's hard for me to understand how you can mess up mashed potatoes. Price- About the standard for BBQ around here. 25 dollars or so will get you what most places consider a family portion. A couple pounds of meat and a few sides. Overall- I've been harsh in this review and justifiably so. Still I must concede that this isn't' the worst food ever made. The reality is that my BBQ standards are high because I've been known to throw a few slabs on the smoker myself. Simply put I know I can do better than this place hands down and other BBQ joints in the city are simply better as well.

Thursday at 6:30pm there was no one in here upon arrival, but while eating a few more tables walked in. I got the feeling the 2 employees there didn't really want to be there. So I had the shredded pork sandwich. The meat was good, but had no strong flavor without the sauce they drowned it in. If I found myself in the area and hungry like I did last week I would return here, but I'm not about to go out of my way when there's better closer to me. I think the place needs a good cleaning from chairs to the bathroom.

Well I stop here a lot maybe once a week but I usually get the beans and a hot link as I get it as a snack before I go to work. I like the beans, I like the hot link, I like the guys who work there, they re friendly but maybe a little too laidback. No problems at all so far BUT Then I went there with my wife and kids and ordered the ribs, hhhmmm not so good, I HATE chewy ribs, the wife was wondering why I bought them, the kids were whining about Brothers BBQ. I felt foolish but I go there all the time I said. They didn't care. I went back a few days later and the regular guy was there, I mentioned as I ordered my beans and hotlink about the experience with the ribs, he comments he also had gotten some complaints and was dutifully checking into them, as I walked out he yelled, come back ! and gave me three ribs, THEY WERE DAMN GOOD, maybe in some ways the best ribs I ever ate, I had no sauce so I was forced to just eat them plain and the meat was perfect, really perfect. I am not saying they are the best anywhere, no way, but they are honest in trying to do good job, maybe they need little oversight now and then but I still like the beans and the hot links, never tried anything else , will try the ribs again though. All in all a SOLID THREE maybe more I have never given a five, I am waiting to eat at BOBBY FLAYS

I have had KT's menu sitting on my desk so I can write a review for about three months now. This says to me it was A-OK, I did not hate it nor would I rush out for a slab of ribs; even on the 4th of July This KT's has the feel of a fast food joint and would be a great stop if you are driving through Denver on I-70. We had the Texas Beef Brisket and The Pig Pile sandwiches and voted the Brisket our favorite. The sauces and sides are good; I just cannot write home about them. The staff is friendly and fairly helpful. The prices are about the same as other places. This is a great place to start if you are a bar-b-q beginner but for those of us who have a PHD (Piled High and Delicious) in bar-b-q, this place is just A-OK.

  • Jeff C.

I have seen this place driving by, so I decided to give it a try today. I got the Texas brisket sandwich. It was just ok. Actually is was boring. The meet was not as tender as they advertised and it really just was plain meat on a plain bun. I did like the standard sauce they served with it. I also got a half a hot link. It was OK, had a decent flavor, but nothing to write home about. The mashed potatoes were good, but it was a skimpy amount for a side. Lunch without a drink was over $9.00. Don't think I will hurry back for mediocre.

    (3)
  • Christopher C.

Good BBQ, not as good as boney's but right up there with brothers and definitely better than yazoo. Get the combo, it's a little more but you get a lot more. I think the pulled chicken is better than their pork, and the hot links are smoky and have good flavor.

    (4)
  • Tres B.

Stopped here on a whim and the beef brisket was outstanding as were the side. I found the flavorful woodsmoke mixed with a tangy BBQ sauce to dance across my taste buds like Gene Kelly in a cowboy hat. The staff, however, was oddly distant and uncomfortable, barely able to mumble a hello. One star deduct for stilted service.

Meh.. Nothing special. I went here yesterday and the food was just ok. Sandwich was kind of dry and portions kind of small. Probably wont go back as there are definitely better options out there..

  • John M.

Just not good enough. Restaurant was dirty and disorganized. Food was mediocre at best. Really enjoyed the mini key lime pie and the mashed potatoes and although they weren't enough to make me want to return they were enough to bump a one star experience up to a two star.

    (2)
  • Cody A.

Damn this place is good. Super good. The ribs are bomb, the potatoes are bomb, the June bowl ($6.50) is probably one of the best things that you can put in your mouth. I go out of my way to have lunch here 3-4 times a week. The food is delicious, the staff is friendly and the portions are huge. The only thing that I don't like about the place is that it gets super crowded at lunchtime. I can't knock KT's though, having a huge lunch rush is the mark of excellence.

  • Angela M.

Pretty good for western 'cue, if you ask me, particularly the freshly-pulled pork! KT's catered the Sweenbarger Hootenanny of Lyons, CO. The bride and groom chose the whole roasted big buffet, but due to the venue set up, the pig was on a picnic table outback rather than being shown off. The best part of the whole pig is that the pulled pork had only been pulled 20 minutes prior to serving, so it was still moist and juicy! The pork has great flavor all by itself, but there were 3 sauces to dress it up: Trina's Texas, which was sweet and spicy, Kurt's Memphis, which was vinegary, and Double Diamond, which was spicy. My uncle used to own a barbecue place in Memphis, and I think of Memphis style sauce as thick and molasses or ketchup based, but I'm no official barbecue judge. That said, the vinegar sauce was not as good as I'd expect back east, but it wasn't bad either. Trina's was a little too sweet for me, particularly when eaten along side the beans, which were also on the sweet side. I only added a dab of the Double Diamond to the others to give it all some kick, and it did its job well. The killer beans really were killer - lots of sweet and spicy flavor complete with bits of meat and onions included. The mac and cheese was on the dry side, as opposed to gooey. It didn't have any flavor compared to the beans and the sauces for the meat, but then again, it would've had to really be flavorful to compare to the rest. The sausage was probably my favorite part - juicy, smoky, and meaty (as opposed to greasy).

KT's isn't too shabby...but it's not great either. I just can't find a BBQ joint in Denver that lives up to any of the ones I frequented in KS (I heart you and miss you, Oklahoma Joes). I stopped in real quick to grab a bite to take back to work. I decided on the pork shoulder sandwich, side of mac-n-cheese and sweet tea...reasonably priced little meal at $6-7. Yes, I may have shown up AFTER the lunch rush, but they were out of sweet tea...WOE IS ME! I was really craving it. Oh well, I said nothing and filled up on the lemonade instead. It tasted like powder mix, dang it. Got to work and dug into my sammich. The meat was tender and smoky...good stuff! Unfortunately, the mac-n-cheese did not get the same reaction. It was pretty dry and didn't have much flavor, besides a lot of pepper...show me the cheese, man! I still can't decide how I feel about the sauce...it's very tangy/vinagary and thin. I guess I'm just used to a more thick sauce. I'm definitely not counting KT's out. Maybe next time I will stop in BEFORE the lunch rush and choose a different side item.

Really Good BBQ! I love the KT's in Boulder and thought I would compare. Staff was great and even stayed late to accommodate us. The Sauce has some zip to it that makes you feel like you have found a little piece of St Louis in CO. I got a mix of meat Pork shoulder and Hot links. I like to mix it up. You better hope that the man with the cleaver is having a good day ;)

It would have been good if the food had been hot -- the ribs weren't hot, and the beans were cold.

second time with ordering take out & 1st experience was blah. Gave it another try because we were driving by. Ordered take out family dinner plus a 1/2 slab. Based on previous experience I was expecting to be underwhelmed. But, guess what? Our food was good. not really 4 star worthy but better than 3 stars.

    (4)
  • Tommy S.

It's pretty good. The pork is a bit on the dry side but that's easily fixed with a generous helping of there BBQ sauce. I like the Carolina, it's peppery and vinegary with just a little spice. The sweet tea seals the deal for me.

    (4)
  • Frederick S.

This place gets a fairly solid "3". I've had much better...and I've had much worse. What brings you back to this place is the consistancy. It's been OK everytime you've been there, and it will be OK the next time you go. If you want "stellar" sit-down BBQ...head to M&D's! If you want a quick, acceptable lunch that's got some pig, smoke and sauce, KT's will fill the bill.

  • Dan S.

I usually go to the KT's in Boulder but I was in the neighborhood and stopped by their new location on Colorado Blvd. Had the Joe's Rib Basket which is the St. Louis style pork spareribs. That and the coleslaw and beans were excellent. I think it may be the best BBQ place in Colorado. Prices are good and the staff is polite and friendly.

    (5)
  • Shawn R.

got the rib meal with 2 sides.......beans and slaw were mediocre....ribs were poor and extremely dry....they have a few types of sauce which are decent

  • Bryan E.

This is one of the newest locations for KT's and still just as good as the others. I would give it a 3 star minus. The food was good but the service lacked friendliness. Although the establishment is newer, it needs a good cleaning. I had the June Bowl. It is one of my favorites at KT's. Most of their meets are on the dry side, but they put a good amount of sauce on the June Bowl. It's like a BBQ Pot Pie without the crust. You should give it a try. KT's isn't the best BBQ in town, but it does take care the hunger. Don't be afraid to give it a try.
