Sometimes when you go to a restaurant - just sometimes - you need to know what you're getting into. That said - get in there. Griff's fills a special spot in the periodic table of restaurant elements. Some rave about the crushed ice in the beverages. Some yelp loudly about the heavenly, greasy burgers. Hey, I don't eat meat that much, but this place should make every vegan reconsider the value of top notch Middle America slab on a bun. Upside: The absolute best chocolate malteds around. Whether or not you use them, you gotta love the metal umbrellas outside, and the lava rock on the outside completes the ambience. Fries are great when you get them hot. Crushed ice is a passing art, so points there. Downside: Don't expect service. Waiting at the drive-through is akin to watching razor stubble materialize. If you want a quick drive-thru though, go up the street to MickeyD's, and revel in what you get in that bag, just make sure you have a dictionary handy so you can look up the picture next to the word "average". Overall: if you prefer Sonic, it's only because of the commercials, and the oversized menu. If you want the raw, down-to-earth, no-nonsense, throwback basics, look no further. Culinary bliss is just a bad drive thru menu speaker away. And if that weird clown thingy logo doesn't make you smile, you have no heart.

Whenever I decide to try a greasy spoon like Griff's, I'm always comforted by the sight of pleasantly plump patrons stuffing their faces full of tasty greasy hamburgers, while periodically blotting their sweaty foreheads with a napkin and washing it all down with an ice cold Coke. A disturbing scene to some, but entirely too comforting to me. Griff's is a time warp; the original hamburger joint. While I wouldn't want to eat here on a regular basis, for obvious health reasons, I treat Griff's like a treat; a tasty, delicious, greasy treat. Griff's also is a value spot. Their combo meals are loaded and cheap- a deadly combo. Not to mention they have great fried mushrooms, onion rings (crispy!), fries (WacArnolds style but better) and milkshakes. Giff's also offers a fried pork tenderloin sandwich- a Midwest favorite rarely found in these parts (reason for the 4 stars). Griff's- a tasty, delicious, greasy treat!

I went to Griffs 2 years ago, and always make a trek to taste there burgers. They arent to far from the Light Rail as usually im heading downtown for a Happy Hour. The burgers are prepared fresh and i love the grease. The French Fries are top notch. I love to eat, and usually get a Double Cheeseburger. There is one by my house and i still prefer to drive down to this one or take the light rail to it. Ive brought friends here and they love it as well. Cant go wrong with Griff's

Griffs! I remember eating Griffs while in College.. they have a good product that is the same all the time.. they kinda remind me of Whataburger.. for those Denverites that remember it.. .it's good, hot fresh and plenty of juicy beef, with cool lettuce, pickles, and thinly slices tomato. The fries are not all that but here it's all about the burgers.. better than Mickey D's, Better than Wendy's and a hell of a whole lot better than Trash-Burger... If I'm in Arvada I gotta stop and get me some Griffs!!!

Argh! I went here because of what others said about it on Yelp. Ok, so it didn't completely suck. I love how there's all bun and very flat burger - which kind of reminds me of the old Wendy's commercial "where's the beef?" Anyways, my husband says that next time I go I need to order a double or a bigger burger if I want more meat and less bun. No worries, I'm not knocking the place because of the burger itself - I kind of expected a greasy cheap burger which is probably why a lot of people visit this joint. I have to say that there's this one sweet little employee that took his job seriously and mopped and collected customers trays as they were leaving - I was impressed. The place is old - so I think that's why it looks a little dirty? Would I go again? Probably later than sooner, but I'd go again. Like I said, it didn't completely suck but I just can't stomach all the grease and calories in one sitting.

Griff's is essentially the inspiration for the fast-food burger chains. Good, cheap burgers n' fries... served in a styrofoam container! While the chain joints seem to have ventured away from the original burger shack concept, Griff's seems like a mini-timewarp to the 1960's. Bacon burgers. Cheese burgers. Double cheese burgers. Double bacon burgers. You get the idea. The burgers are the attraction, here. Furthermore, they don't dump a slice of processed cheese on your burger. They give you shredded cheese. A small enhancement, but it's things like this that makes Griff's fun. My only complaints are small nit-picks. First: they feature Hunt's ketchup on all the table...which, to me, is just wrong (where's the Heinz). The interior of the place is a little "used" and worn down, but it still works. I also kinda' wish that they'd jump into the whole "retro" look n' feel of the place. Some of their signage and materials have old 1950's-era graphics (think of the original McDonald's ads), but they're not using that branding more thoroughly. Regardless, while there's a BK, Wendy's and McDonald's nearby, next time you're cruising down south Broadway and want a burger, skip those places and hit Griff's.

First off, I cannot believe I've lived within a mile of this place for four years and not tried it. It just never really occured to me that it was open. Well, it is. Yes, they do in fact have crushed ice which makes a Coke even better. Also, they have Coca Cola which IS, as every Atlantan will tell you, the superior cola product. That's right. I said it. Coke. Their burgers are actually pretty good. They taste like hamburgers, and not like some mystery meat processed something. The fries were hot and tasty. Dan had a chicken sammich and a corn dog. He said they were tasty, so we'll just trust him and go with that. If you are in the neighborhood don't wait 4 years to give this place a try. It's a quick and better alternative than the other fast food joints nearby.

Attention:: Don't let anyone tell you that Griffs is at all like In-N-Out. It is not even close! Their burgers are not terrible, I just think they are on par with Sonic. Big, sloppy and look like someone has been warming the burger in their armpit. I do like the crushed ice, and it didn't bother me that there was so much, but I don't drink a lot of soda. I am not a huge burger fan, but I do love In-N-Out. I have to be in the mood for a burger. I generally assume it will be heavy and greasy, it is a grilled piece of ground meat afterall.

Kinda sad to see this place not getting better reviews. I'm not super crazy about hamburgers, but I do get a craving for it every once in awhile and whenever I do, my husband takes advantage of it and tries to drag to some place that has burgers. We were driving around town one day and we stumbled across Griff's and since we like trying new places (and I had a burger craving lol), we went on in. The burgers aren't the best but they're definitely good and better than Burger King (Sorry Becky S.). I like the fact that you can get different ingredients in it (like mushrooms or jalapenos) and different cheeses. They also have really good onion rings and OMG! Cherry milkshakes! I've never had a cherry milkshake before, but wow. Those things are fabulous. Griff's gets an extra star just for that. Kinda miss this place now that we're back home in Hawaii. :(

Heart attack in a wrapper... mmmm Everyone I work with goes here and get a meal with a side of BLT... which is pretty good i think! ....makes it a healthy option.... i guess... We came here for a quick dinner a few nights ago and I did not hate it but i did not love it either. I LOVE jalapenos on burgers so score for that! I love Dr. pepper and Crushed ice so star there too! Service was fast and as friendly as you could expect from a joint like this. Ill be back and try the Onion rings because those looked great!! GET EXTRA NAPKINS~!!! trust me....

One of the best burgers in town. A good friend turned me on to Griff's in 1992. It has been my favorite place for a great tasting fairly priced burger and fries for a long time. I have turned many friends on to Griff's. Whenever my wife and I are downtown around meal times we always head to Griff's. Just wish they would build a store out here in Parker 20 miles is a long way to go for a burger.

I ate there yesterday and the food was good, the price was right, and the portions were ample. I think it's better than the fast food chains. I had the big cheeseburger combo meal, which came with a good amount of food, for under $6 with tax. The ambiance was neat since it had a quaint feel to dining there, as opposed to going to a chain burger place.

Delicious! Huge portions and super inexpensive. Will have to satisfy my craving for In-n-Out while I'm living in Denver.

October 6th 2013 at 2pm my boyfriend and I went to Griff's to get some lunch. I ordered my food a BLT Combo meal with a coke, the guy behind the register said " chicken BLT" and I said " no, just a plain BLT", and then my boyfriend ordered his food and they said we were order number 82. They called our number and my boyfriend went to the counter to get our food he saw that they didn't give us what we ordered, one drink and one order of fires was missing. He asked them where it was, and stated that we had ordered two combo meals and the guy behind the counter just looked at him, and a girl went to the register and rang up the fries and drink and charged my boyfriend another $1.81 in addition to what he had already paid. My boyfriend observed them wiping off the top of my drink with a rag that appeared to be dirty. My boyfriend then came back to the table with our lunch and I opened my sandwich, and it was a chicken BLT. So I went back to the counter and waited and the girl asked if there was a problem and I said "yes my sandwich was wrong it was supposed to be a BLT" and she looked at me very confused and asked "BLT"? I said " yes, bacon, lettuce and tomato". She called it back on her microphone and said "BLT", then instructed me to go sit and she would bring it to me. So I went back to my table and started to eat my fries, I had just about finished my fries when I decided to go back up there and see what was taking so long. I waited by the counter, I was able to see that food was being prepared without gloves on from where I was standing. I could see the girl standing right behind the food warmer (there was about a foot gap between the signs on the back side of the warmer that I could see through) with no gloves on, preparing a sandwich, I watched her spit into the bag, and another female voice say "ewwwww" and then she lazily folded the back and threw it on its side down the food warmer. It sat there for a minute until one of the girls behind the register brought it to me, and that is when I realized it was my sandwich she had spit in. I could not believe what I just saw, I was totally in shock and disbelief. I walked back over to my table and looked at the sandwich and sure enough I saw the spit right in the top to of back, I told my boyfriend what I has just seen, and then walked back over to the counter. When I got back to the counter I asked for a manager, and I was greeted by 5 employees. So I explained exactly what I saw to all five of them, but it was the one who spit in my sandwich that called me a liar. She was the only one in a sky blue uniform the others were wearing navy blue. She told me she did not spit in my food I said that I saw her do it, she told me that I didn't know what I was talking about, and I said I know what I saw and I repeated what I saw again. She explained that there are video tapes, I told her to go get her tapes so we could watch then, and she kept calling me a liar, so I walked away from the counter back to the table and told my boyfriend that it was time to go, and explained to him what had just happened. I came home and called the Colorado Health Department right away and left a voicemail on their machine requesting a call back to discuss what had happened, as this behavior is unacceptable and unsanitary. I wasn't even given an option of a refund or anything I paid for a meal that I wasn't able to eat due to the saliva from the girl that spit in the sandwich. We went back to check and see if the girl still had a job there, and she still works there!!!! Be careful about this fast food place!!!! Worst experience that I had EVER had!!!!! However, if you like spit in your food then griff's will accommodate you no questions asked!!!!

What I had? Giant Cheeseburger and fries with a chocolate shake Food review: I think at least one of my friends will shun me for writing this review. I don't know if I'm missing a certain taste bud or simply don't have the food intelligence to comprehend the "magnificence" of this burger but the burger at Griffs tasted like your ordinary, "run of the mill", regular cheeseburger. It wasn't bad by any means but it certainly, in my opinion, doesn't deserve the hype it receives. It was an OK burger. I'm particularly frustrated about this because if I'm not mistaken, I've had a similar experience (which may get me shunned by the state of California) with In 'N Out burgers. Someone on another review stated these fries tasted like Burger King's fries and I'd have to disagree. They tasted more like weak McDonalds fries to me. They're ok. The chocolate shake I got was the best part of my meal. It didn't exactly taste like chocolate (maybe white chocolate?) but it was tasty regardless. Service? No complaints

I came in here looking for the best burger in Denver and what I got was pretty darn good. The burger is big and juicy and the onion rings were really good. This place is old school and they have a clown logo. Hard to go wrong with that combo.

One of the better kept secrets in Denver. This is a chain, I guess, but I've only ever seen them in Denver. Far better burgers than any other fast food place besides Good Times. Great fries as well. The customers can be pretty sketchy, so I would recommend getting it to go. Not for your vegan friends for sure, but us carnivores love it.

One star is because they have crushed ice. The other star is because my boyfriend sends me there every time I offer to bring him lunch, so he must see something in it. And I do trust his opinion. But really, Burger King is probably a little better.

The milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard. Seriously, though, the food is a refreshing change from McDonald's, and it's not as expensive as some of the other milk shoppe style eateries. I will definitely be returning...and not just because I'm lazy and live down the street.

I like Griff's. Greasy is what I WANT when I eat a burger. I like the onions because they're diced. I like that they only put mustard on the burgers- ketchup fans, you're out of luck But you can get ketchup if you go inside the restaurant, they have a bunch of Heinz squeeze bottles. Never asked if they have packets. I consider the fries to be similar to McDonald's but a little less salty. The best part about Griff's is that it is a little cheaper than all the rest.

  • Tara B.

For fast food hamburgers, this is a sinful pleasure. They are HUGE and they are GREASY! Not for everyone, but from time to time, a real treat. I also dig their onion rings which aren't too bad for fast food rings. The shakes are very good - thick and creamy! If I'm gonna eat some nasty fast food, this is gonna be what I pick. (I must confess the clowns on the wrappers creep me out a little, but I'm also eerily fascinated by them too...)

from what i hear griff's is a relic leftover from a bygone age of burgers in america. this place has a thin film of grease left over from sometime in the 80's. I was convinced to go here on the promise that is was similar to in-n-out. not so much. the burgers here are large and sloppy and come with diced onions and mustard, they leave the ketchup up to you. also, though the sodas may look large, they actually pack it chock full of ice, so much in fact that we're convinced that global warming is the fault of the ice consumption of griff's even though there's only one left. these are definitely better than the chain options, but if you're expecting in-n-out, they'll let you down.

Crying. This is the saddest review I've written yet. Griff's is closing. End of August 2015. The one in Arvada/Wheat Ridge is already gone. Soon, this one will be, too. What will we do, Denver? Where will we go to get the best burger, fries, and a large drink combo for under $7.00? Crown Burger and a few others may be the only ones left. But, they are so far from my house. And, it sucks. Like an empty Griff's strawberry shake cup. I am preparing to have my last Griff's meal over the next week. I will order a monster burger combo with mushrooms and bacon. I had the onion rings last weekend. But this week, I will also have a shake. I will have an egg sandwich. And, I will have a cherry turnover. The meal will probably run $12.00 all totaled. That's a lot of food for $12.00. And regardless of how much food that actually means, even if I burst at the seams, every penny will be worth it. Because the memory of that last meal will have to last the rest of my life. Pitiful.

My 100th review! Griff's. In Denver since 1966. Griff's. A place of goodness. Griff's Hamburgers, or Griff's Burger Bar, a regional fast food chain founded in 1960 by Griff's of America, Inc. of Kansas City, Missouri, United States. The Denver restaurant, built in 1966, was built in the patented A-frame building design, produced by Valentine Diners of Wichita, Kansas. The burgers have a delicious seared flavor. The prices are reasonable and the portions are large. I much prefer this fast food to the mega business offering alternative. This place is quaint and awesome. Add bacon. You'll be glad you did.

An average hamburger stand with above average burgers. The easiest way to compare this place is like a run down sonic. With there being no sonic around for miles this place will cure your craving. Buyer beware -their Large soda is similar to the size of a football! It's massive but also consists of 75% ice... Ask for "easy" ice. They really need to re-do their drive through menu board, pieces of paper taped up does not look professional. I went in expecting a 3 star experience, received exactly that and I'll go back expecting the same thing.

Feeling a little sad about Griff's. I used to love this place. Today I had a chicken sandwich meal deal and the fries were sad and soggy and not even warm. And the chicken sandwich was rancid. Yup. Rancid. I could not even eat it. I used to love this place. Boo.

Pretty bummed to have to leave this review because I've always loved the food here. After hearing they were closing their locations my girlfriend and I decided to stop by with a friend for one last meal. They were very busy and the staff was quick to inform us that there was a 30 minute wait, but my lady was starving and we figured it would be worth it. Before we even got to the register I started to realize that the staff was overwhelmed by all the customers. One sad little man of an employee (who I later found was the manager) was cursing behind the counter loud enough that I could hear him in line. So after we placed our order and waited 30 min I went up to the counter to see what was going on. There was another customer in front of me who was losing her mind, the cashier did a decent job of keeping it together but then the same manager got involved. Instead of apologizing to them for having to wait and messing up their order, he actually argued with them about it. So I work in the service industry and I am usually very patient when it comes to sub par service, so when it was my turn I calmly told them I just wanted to check on my order status. They informed that they would start cooking it now. Huh? What was I waiting half an hour for? I feel like they were just doing their drive through orders the entire time. So I return to my seat only to hear the manager going ape because they have run out of fries. At this point in time he figures the only logical step is to close the restaurant, and he does that by locking the doors which in turn locks the patrons in. Now, any grown human would immediately recognize this as a violation of municipal fire code. I notice, but I bite my tongue and return to the counter to get my meal (which I had to walk them through step by step). Upon returning to my seat I see a boy who is maybe 7 trying to carry 2 drinks and open the door, which is locked. So I open the side door for him and return to the front and unlock that door as well. Other patrons saw me do this and commented that they can't believe he locked it in the first place. Golem soon comes flying out from behind the counter demanding to know who unlocked the doors. I told him it was me and that what he was doing was illegal and he'd need to send an employee outside to deter customers from coming in. He then tried to inform me that it's only illegal if they're chained up (?) and that he knows what he's doing. So I explained to him that as a former firefighter, I probably have a better grasp on fire code than a manager at a burger joint and I'm not going to be locked in here. He sulked away back into the kitchen, shit talking me under his breath. The meal itself was very meh. It was obviously rushed and probably the worst food I've ever gotten from there. Really sucks cuz it was my girls first time there and I had hyped it up so much. Throughout the meal myself and other customers kept having to unlock the doors which kept getting locked. It's really a shame to see how bad this place has gotten in just the last year. Completely incompetent management (same guy once told me that it was too late to get a milkshake, when I protested he changed his tune which to me means he just didn't want to make it in he first place) 2 stars just for my fond memories of the first times I had griffs.

I'm comparing this to bbops in Des Moines.. Very comparable. Burgers are super tasty. Fries are okay, maybe we got some off ones but they didn't have too much flavor to them.

I know it is just a fast food burger and I typically don't eat fast food burgers but these are disgustingly good burgers. Fries are Meh but if you're feeling a bit salty after a fun night and want some greasy goodness on the go then this is your spot. Feel free to wash it down with a tasty beverage.

The property was bought by a real estate company which is owned by Core Power Yoga. I still cannot understand the whole yoga thing, but that's probably has something to do with the fact that I love to eat the Monster Meal at Griff's rather than sit around with some young cute girls trying to hold in my farts!

I so badly want to like this place. Griffs is a charming old school burger joint. It's cheap greasy and has killer milkshakes. The reason that I can't bring myself to really enjoy this place is because it's SOO dirty inside! The food is ok, my burger and fries were a little bit dry. I went in around 10:30 am and it was completely filthy. I'd hate to see the kitchen area.

I need to step up & set the record straight! These bad reviews are by people who are accustomed to processed fast food burgers so when they actually eat real meat they think it's bad. GRIFFS is old fashioned quality burgers! No frills just real tasty burgers n fries! Don't come here looking for fancy dining .... This is just a hearty burger with real people coming through. Ignore all the bad reviews & go to GRIFFS for the tastiest burger in Denver!!

The difference between 3 and 4 stars is the logo. How creepy is that. I love the little star eye'd Griff on the website holding a hammer letting people know there is a new website coming soon. Cute... Like Chucky. Anyway, this is a classic greasy burger joint. A good flat top American delicacy. Well done. Lot's of American "cheese." Good sear on the patties. Plenty of grease to go around. The fries were technically a disaster. They weren't as bad as I've seen. If you want fast food old school, come here.

If you long for that cafeteria style burger from elementary school, this place has got you covered. A colorless, unseasoned patty that I do suspect is a straight buyout burger will be atop a hot- house tasteless tomato (even in September), with an un-melted imitation Kraft single. The roll was not horrible, decent fries. I asked for onion, meaning sliced onion. This is the only onion that should be served with a burger. Diced onions are for hotdogs; it's like ketchup and mustard. I can't even take them seriously at this point. Tawlk to da hand.

It is what it is. Delicious greasy fast food. People complaining about service? It's fast food, a meal cost $6 haha get over it ... I don't have a service standard for fast food, as long as the food is tasty, and it is. Fries and onion rings are nice and crispy, burgers are juicy. Perfect hang over cure. It was my second time visiting today and certainly will be back when I have that burger n shake craving again. Chili dogs and shakes are also good, haven't had anything "bad" here.

I have tried again a couple of times. When its busy it's slammed. When it's not, well you are in luck. This place is nothing special. It's just not a chain place. I have tried the burger. A little greasy.. but I've had worse. Like I said.. nothing special, close to where I work and not a chain restaurant which automatically gets you one star in my book!

Don't go here. Rude owner/manager! I have 30 minutes for lunch and I was The phone with my mother who is 2000 miles away. I was trying to multitask talk to her and grab lunch quickly. She put me hold while I was about to order. The guy refused to take my order if I had a phone in my hand or even answer any questions! Seriously I'm ordering a burger and fries?!? And he made some rude remarks. I ended up walking out. I wasted half of my lunch driving out of my way. I can't believe he wouldn't serve me because I was on the phone. Never will I go back and hope other people stay away.

Went to Griff's for lunch today, been hearing about their burgers for awhile now and finally got the opportunity to try it. Well the wait was worth it! I had the #4 monster burger. It was very tasty and did not disappoint. It had everything, and the right amount of grease! The fries were perfect! If you like old school burger joints then this is your place! It got 4 out of 5 because there were too many flies inside, but what do you expect for old school.

A friend and I decided to stop at Griff's Hamburgers for a quick bite. We placed our order and headed to our table expecting a hamburger that would be comparable to a local fast food burger. Unfortunately, it did not even meet that expectation. The tomatoes, lettuce, and onions looked like leftovers scooped up from a bottom of a barrel at the Denver Rescue Mission. And, the homely cracked flat bun looked like a steam roller had pressed it in its final process to be served. My friend and I found the appearance of the burgers to be comical. We decided to serve the food to our pets that are blind and without taste buds. Bon Appetite

Stopped here for lunch today and it's been a while since my last visit. The staff were all welcoming and well maintained. Needless to say we went at noon and the place was packed, including the drive thru! The entire staff was efficient and worked hard. Our orders were filled correctly and tables were cleaned quickly. I am always happy to give my business to a place that takes pride in their work and I will be back. Plus, the food is always good, and a decent price!

Griff's Hamburgers is an old school fast food joint that prepares your food when you order it - what a concept! They don't nuke or steam food they made a half hour ago, or leave things sitting under heat lamps until they shrivel up. And the best thing of all is that their food would appear to be actual food, and not some combination of chemicals and fillers that was created in a lab to taste like food. Fresh tasting veggies also help separate a Griff's burger from one from a big chain. After a morning of yard work we decided to head over to Griff's for lunch, what a great call! We hit the drive thru and each went for the Combo #1 - a double giant cheeseburger with fries and a drink. When you order a burger you can choose either mustard or mayo, or both I guess. If you don't pick one it will only have the lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles. The fries were a little under cooked but still very good. I also really dig that they use crushed ice in their fountain drinks, much better than cubes. The only real issue I can think of is the GIANT pothole you have to work your way around in the drive thru. I'm guessing it has taken out it's share of old tires.

Two triple cheese, side order of fries. Commander Cody got it right. Griff's is another one of these Denver institutions that make giant hamburgers and make no apologies for it. Skinny fries and the usual host of burger toppings like, tomato, pickles, onions, lettuce, mustard round out the meal. They get it here - no mayonaise on a hamburger. Years ago I had a co-worker who could put away two double cheeses for lunch. The thought now makes me mildly ill. Griff's is a great American burger joint, but come hungry the single is huge. Side note: The logo guy is a total crack-up. I think that's what you look like after you eat the Triple with bacon.

Yum! The chocolate milkshake is yummy, fries taste similar to micky-D's, and burgers taste pretty good too. Got a giant cheese burger, chicken sandwich, medium milkshake, large fries (to share) and it came out to be $12. Not toooo bad.

Gonna start getting back into reviews after mostly taking a giant hiatus off in 2012 - but gonna go easy today. Griff's seems to attract a working-class baseball hats and sweatshirted people kinda crowd, not really too many families dining in here, but maybe that's what the drive-through is for. Just N of the I-25 and Broadway off/on ramps. Breakin it down: The choices: Double giant cheese burger with mushrooms, large fries and strawberry shake - $7.80??! That's amazing. Can add on bacon, mushrooms, jalapeños, chili, extra cheese (sliced or shredded)...you could probably coax them into one of burger's finer decadences, the fried egg, on top, too -- I have a feeling they'd do that. They also have the obvious chicken sandwich, but also pork, egg, steak, fish sammies; corn dogs, great deals on combo meals and they will sub shakes for drinks easily. The good: Their shakes are thick, creamy, sweet and even fruity -- they hit the blessed quadfecta. It's not SO thick you can't pull it through the straw like a very few places I've been. I kept saying "I'm just gonna have 1 more sip" at about the 1/4 mark and couldn't stop automatically raising it to my lips until it was 1/2 gone at least. Very good!! Their burgers are grilled wonderments -- I wouldn't call it "giant", maybe? But it's definitely very good sized -- grilled taste comes through clearly and you're very glad you got it, if you came for an "mmmmmmmmm..." burger. I don't know if they've downsized their portions -- some reviewers here claim you get the double cheeseburger if you're ready to polish off a cow -- I'm 3/4 done with mine and feel very satisfiedly full but not "*groan* oh my gaaaaawd I can't eat another bite of this". So maybe they shrank their portion sizes down some. I dunno. The bad/disappointing: I was told a large fries came with the combo, but what I got looked a hell of a lot like a medium. That's fine, because quality-wise, they were also disappointing. Floppy shoestring fries, lightly salted. They're ok...they're better than BK or McDs or Wendys...but definitely not on par with the rest of the meal. Maybe I should have gone for the onion rings or fried mushrooms others have raved about. The sad: The people working the counter look soul-weary and half-dead...not happy, not full of energy...they get the job done, but...you know? You know. Maybe that's how I look at work M-F too...I can empathize. I'm not gonna call that "the ugly", but it is kind of sad to run into. All in all, more good than bad about this place. I could come back and be content.

All the above stars go to their old-school clown mascot and..... their milkshakes. Hands down -- so darn tasty. The consistency is just right, too -- very thick, but not too thick so you can still suck it through a straw. As you probably know, there's a lot to be said about that. The downside -- it only comes in vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. I think that's forgivable though considering the consistency is perfect.. However, the burgers are not that great -- think of a wanna-be Sonic burger except really limp and soggy. Speaking of soggy, the fries, tater tots, and onion rings (yes, I tried them all) get soggy real fast. I don't think these are worth getting unless you are going to dine-in to maximize the crispiness. Personally, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here except for when I'm craving a milkshake. You can get more decent grub elsewhere.

Hm - well I reviewed this place last in 2009 and a lot has happened on the burger scene in the meantime. Mostly for the better. Was in the 'hood last night and needed to soak up some alcohol and I thought Griff's might suffice. Alas, it did not. I don't think it is any worse than it was the last time I was there but there are so many better options these days. The burger was bland and overcooked. I'm still tasting the onion rings today and not in a pleasant way. Fries were limp and coldish. This pretty much below par food was still almost $9. You can do so much better for a couple of bucks more. I used to think Griff's beat the chains but after tonight I'm not so sure. It does have a certain "old school, local vibe" but we've come a long way baby and if I'm going to squander calories and cholesterol on a burger it's going to have to be a hell of a lot better than this.

Very good old fashioned hamburger! I can not remember the last time I had better onion rings. Much better burgers than smash Burger or the other name brand burger places. If you are in the area then give them a try

Went in at 10am on a Monday. Place was dead, except for a Denver public works truck-I figured if they eat here it has to be pretty good. Ordering was easy, food was fast, & service was friendly. Food came out hot and correct. Taste is on point with any old school burger joint, and I'm sure I'll be back. The only negative I have is that the restaurant needs some upkeep-stained ceiling tiles, dirty vents, general cleanliness issues that I know aren't from them being busy (it's only 10AM).

Best fast food burger in town so far. I've been looking for the past three months and thought I'd try this place.

You want a good burger on the cheap and cheerful side? Made to order, it's what I call an "old fashioned" hamburger and fries! I don't eat fast food a lot, but sometimes I just gotta have a burger and fries! This place will do in a pinch! Wish they had green chile on the menu. I'm a 'Burqeno and loves green chile on my burgers! But I can add that at home! If you want a made to order burger and fries at a decent price, stop in and eat or drive - thru and pick one up.

Where else can you get a pork sandwich with a jalapeño on the side in Denver? Nowhere. Enough said. I only wish the Tower Bar was still next door. ;-).

This place is disgusting and the service is terrible. Tonight was my second and final chance trying the restaurant. First time was equally bad. It took 15minutes (maybe even 20) to go through the drive through. There was one car ahead of me and no one in the restaurant. 4 people working the registers, not sure how many cooks in the back. I saw my food was done and the employees did stuff like stock cups instead of actually handing me the food. Once I got it the burger was decent but the fries were the worst fries I've had in my life. No salt or any seasoning to be found and it tasted like they definitely need to change out their grease. I couldn't even eat them. Won't go back ever again after two bad experiences.

This is a solid 3 star establishment. The burger? The burger is 4 stars and totally delicious. It is your typical, fried, fast food burger but it packs a lot of flavor and is really reasonably priced. The Fries? Ditch 'em, they stink. Soggy and taste like they have been in the freezer for the whole 50 years Griff's has been open. Onion rings were alright, but not the best in the world. If you have to have a side with your burger, go the rings. The milkshakes are also pretty good. The fact they have a drive thru is nice, but it will take the same amount of time whether you go through the drive thru or go in the store, so be ready to wait in the car. Overall, if you are on Broadway, this definitely beats a McD's burger and is priced well enough. This is a totally middle of the road place though, so don't feel like you are missing out on a lot if you end up somewhere else.

This place and grandpas burger haven are my 2 favorite fast food burgers in town. They have an awesome taste to them and I have eaten a lot of burgers as I work all over town. Give 'em a try!!!

My son was testing for a belt at a nearby martial arts dojo and I needed to eat. I was thinking salad or sushi but Griff's was in walking distance so I thought I'd give it a try. It's not sushi and it's definitely not a salad.... But its a good double patty cheese burger with shrooms. I will say the bun was crud...mine was packed down and squished. Luv the creepy clown logo with stars for eyes...seriously, it's like a serial killer or a touchy feelie uncle with sweaty hands drew that logo. The Big Gulp sized soda cup is more like a small bucket. The cast of characters were interesting to. Couple of suits, handful of wannabe hipster guys in skinny jeans and goofy glasses they probably don't need, families and folks who looked like they've been ridden hard and hung up wet. A homeless guy walked in and started to bum money off eating customers for a nickel. Seriously, he asked for just a nickel Each time. I wonder if they have open WiFi...I could hang out for a while. Overall, good burgers, very mediocre fries and a real interesting ambiance...actually ambiance is probably not the right word. Yea I'd go back if I was in the area and I was hungry for a greasy burger...

I am always on a quest for a great hamburger. Of course, hamburgers come in many different "styles" ranging from a $20+ hamburger to $1 burgers. Griff's falls more into the later category. A cheap fast food style hamburger. While it is a decent hamburger, it is far from a great hamburger. It doesn't even come close to an In-N-Out burger or even a Carl Jr's Six Dollar Burger. I'm not even sure I liked it as much as a Whopper. Their fries were very good and probably some of the best fast food fries besides good ole McDonald fries. I probably won't go back unless it is to try the milkshake that everyone else talks about.

My favorite place to grab a good, cheap meal when I don't feel like visiting one of the upscale burger boutiques that populate my neighborhood. You get a lot of burger for your money. Throw on some grilled onions or fried jalapenos for a pew cents more. Definitely a favorite spot of mine.

  • John B.

Good and greasy and made the old fashioned way. Well, like 1979 at least. Everything they've ever handed me was fresh and tasted great. Shakes are killer and the staff are way nicer and more engaging than anybody you'll get at a big chain. Definitely a great burger.

Mmmmmm, Griff's! I had the double cheeseburger, fries and a root beer for six bucks and change. Good, tasty burgers, good prices and cooked to order. I don't go that often, but I do keep coming back. Don't expect the drive thru to be any faster than going in for your grub. They throw the meat on the heat when you order, not half an hour before! Mmmmm, tummy full of meaty, cheesy goodness!

Only reason they don't get 5 stars is the Hunts catchup. Sorry I grew up Heinz and that is that. Other than that everything is pretty great. Prefer the onion rings to the fries. Great Burgers.

The Broadway Location was my first foray into the world of Griff's. (And second, we went back a few weeks later.) I am always on the lookout for a good burger. I'd read the Yelp reviews, and was headed in expecting a greasy-good burger, crushed ice, and some sort of a time-warp. I got it. I ordered a cheeseburger combo, with fries and a drink. While we were waiting, I loaded up the table with the Hunts Ketchup (from the bottle, which they provide) and napkins (in anticipation of the greasy goodness!) The Food: The burger was an above-average fast-food quality burger. Not mystery meat, but not fresh-ground Angus, hand pattied either. Good seasoning, fresh bun, and melty cheese. The drink: Yup. Crushed Ice. Euphoric. But the Winner? The Fries. Thin cut, freshly fried, not greasy, burning hot, salted, crispy and savory. I don't generally like fries, and the ones I do like better be thin, crisp, hot, and seasoned well. These were amazing. I ate almost the whole bag of them. This location is seedy, to be sure. It's on a stretch of Broadway I wouldn't want to wander alone at night. I'm sure the clientele can get sketchy, too, but both times we went in, it was populated with average Joes and Janes, working and grabbing a quick bite, a couple teenaged couples. Typical enough. The employees were friendly and refilled our drinks for the road cheerfully. As mentioned in other reviews, this is probably not someplace you should make a daily habit. But it's definitely a nice treat every once in awhile, when that burger craving strikes.

My dad used to take me here growing up. Living outside of Denver now, Griffs has become a yearly, if that, burger for me. My son is finally old enough to enjoy a good burger and we were in Denver so we stopped in. The lady taking our order at the drive up was rude. Our burgers looked like someone sat on them after preparing, they may have been prepared 45min before we ordered as well. Out fries were cold and soggy. Our drinks were filled at least 3/4 of ice. Can't say we'll be stopping at Griffs anytime soon:(

  • Paul D.

A great hole-in-the-wall, locally-owned burger joint, reminiscent of the golden days of California hamburger stands. If you don't realize that Griffs, and the proliferation of $12 burger joints like Parkburger, Larkburger, Smashburger, HBurger, (fill in next one to open) burger are in an entirely different category of restaurant, I really don't know what to say. Yes, the place is a dump. Basic, 70's-esque formica booths, brownish-white walls likely last painted about that time, and the tacky laminated photos of menu items stapled to the walls complete the ambiance, or lack thereof. But you don't go to a place like this for ambiance, you go to get your burger on. And Griff's delivers. Fast, extremely tasty, and affordable, it's a wonderful alternative to the chains--Or if you're not into dropping $25 for two hamburgers and some fries.

READY? What has clown colored decore, dirt from 1965, subpar food, and costs more than three of my top four listed burger places in town? That's correct - this place...! What I don't understand is how so many people have been duped into thinking that this is a four star burger place? Have they not visited Park Burger, Larkburger and HBurger in Denver? Griff's uses FROZEN French fries and FROZEN onion rings - DING, DING; NO - it's 2013! If it was 1943, and burgers and frozen ff were two thin dimes with a penny change back, I bet this place would be the rage!

  • Tres B.

This place has some great things: 1. Not a chain. 2. In business 50 years 3. Creepy clown logo 4. Old school luster. 5. Very good burgers. Alas, this is counter balanced by the bad: 1. Awful fries, simulator Burger King. Air filled with a false crunchy exterior designed to give a hoax of a crunch. IF they did hand cut fries, this place would gain one or two stars. 2. Terrible fried mushrooms, minuscule and tasteless. 3. Poor up keep. If you want an excellent burger, give Griff's a try. But don't venture into the sides.

    (3)
  • Stacy P.

Oh, fellow Yelpers... I hate to disagree... My experience at Griffs was completely average. Here's what bumped it from two stars to three: 1) The staff was actually friendly 2) Onion rings really were very good The burgers, though, were painfully average. I could buy buns and frozen patties, heat both, and throw some iceberg lettuce, thin tomato slices, and pickles on, and have the same result. Oh, sorry, forgot to add tons of mustard. It's not bad. It's not great. It's very average, cheap (ish) fast food.

I really wanted a hot dog but didn 't find BikerJims. So I settled for this. I should have driven away not through. I had a burger and fries . When the bag came through the window the smell was horrid and my huge appetite was gone. I did however eat some fries and some of the burger. From now on I will pass it up and not wonder if it is good or not. There are much better places to drive through. I will not go back.

First time here and I was impressed. Definitely looks like not a lot has changed over the years, and that's probably a testament to the fact that they've been producing some good burgers over that time. It's a simple selection of burgers but they do them very well. Went at lunch time and the very crowded restaurant meant that I was not the only one that enjoyed the food.

This place is a dive in a good way. I have seen it on Broadway forever and never tried it for some reason. I am kind of regretting that now. They have a fairly large and diverse menu. So far I have just tried the burgers, fries, and hotdogs. The burgers are messy, but surprisingly easy to eat. Portions are good, and the meat is cooked well. A variety of premium toppings are available for a little (like 20 to 50 cents) extra, such as jalapenos, mushrooms, or bacon. Burgers do not come with ketchup by default, so be sure to ask for it if you want it. I would say this is probably the best Fast-food burger I have had in Denver so far (though Old School comes very close, and Five guys doesnt suck). It isnt as good as the best restaurant burgers (The Cherry Cricket still has the best burger overall that I have had in Denver so far), but as fast food goes, Griff's burgers are quite good. And the burgers are definitely the main reason to come here. The fries are a mixed bag. I didnt hate them, but they are far from the best I've had. I agree with other reviewers here...they are comparable to Burger King fries (thats not a good thing). The Onion rings were deep fried and greasy, and also only so-so as well. Portions on both are not that great. The Hotdogs are actually pretty good. I had a Chili Cheese dog. The chili is kind of greasy, which for me is a bonus. It looks and tastes like Hotdog Chili should IMO (it is actual meat chili, and the portions are generous). It was topped with real shredded cheese, not cheese sauce. The prices at this place are really very good, easily competitive with the chains (McDonalds, Wendy's ect)...in fact I think they are a little cheaper than a comparable meal at McDonalds. Though they dont say it on the menu, they do give free drink refills (you have to ask for it at the counter). The place looks kind of run down, but to me that adds to the charm. While the bathrooms are pretty filthy, the lobby was always clean and the front patio by Broadway was actually pretty pleasant. The staff is also a mixed bag...the manager was extremely polite and helpful...the teenagers not so much (lol). I personally didnt care. They did their jobs well enough, so no complaints. Probably not any worse than what you'd expect at a McDonalds. I will definitely be back, and plan to try some of the other things on their big menu. Since Yelp doesnt like to list hours: 9am to 10pm Sun to Fri Open till 11pm on Saturday (and maybe Fridays too?)

I was looking for a non-franchise burger joint and this fit the bill. I ordered the giant double cheeseburger and a chocolate shake. The help was friendly and professional, and my meal was served up quickly. The burger: Reminded me of the burgers I used to get back home when I was growing up. I think it has that non-franchise, unique taste that only an independently owned burger joint can have. Very good and tasty, although for a "giant" cheeseburger, the patty looked kinda lost in the large bun. I was told the giant double cheeseburger included a 1/3 pound patty, which that definitely wasn't. The chocolate shake: Man o man, what a shake! So thick I almost got a hernia. Probably the best shake in Denver. Overall I was very happy with my experience and will definitely return. Maybe I'll even try the fries next time.

2nd time I have tried Griffs and will have to say, it will be my last. I ordered one regular hamburger and one regular cheeseburger with fries and a diet coke. The good: The price was fair enough, $5.30 for everything, but the food was very average and the portion size was good. The bad: The buns were the worst of all, very dry and tasted stale. The burgers on the whole were nothing to write home about Nothing stands out.

Greasy burgers that are wonderful. You will need to up your cardio for sure after going but it's worth it. The inside of the place makes me feel like I'm in a tarantino film, haha.

For some reason my wife and I are hooked on this place. We tried the one in Arvada a week ago and now we're just finding for it. When one such craving hit, we headed to the Broadway location to get our fix. It's on a one way, so maybe a little trouble getting in and out depending on where your'e coming from. Also not as clean as you may like it to be. I'm all about the Giant cheeseburger and my wife and daughter like the corn doggy's. The fries are so so, and the onion rings are greasy heaven. What we like about Griff's is the small, old school burger joint atmosphere and the good, not great, food. I know some are wishing for this place to blow them away, but I think for us it just scratches a simple itch for a good fast food burger at a good price. Nothing more, nothing less. For us it's a simple alternative to the big chains.

Ordered a Double Giant Cheesburger and a medium fry. Have to say it's very good for a fast food hamburger. much better than the national chains. (Wendy's, Carl's). It's also much more affordable. I will definitely go back to Griff's. The fries were alright, not my favorite, but ok. If you wanna get to the drive through, turn left at the sign that says "to i-25 south", because following that sign doesnt take you to I 25, it actually takes you to the drive through of Griff's.

I feel sorry for people who don't try Griff's. The burger is always consistently good, and you can never go wrong with the fried pie. Reminds me of a really good Whataburger, or maybe Whataburger is a bad Griff's.

I am a fan of Griff's and have eaten here for years. While I typically do not eat fast food burgers, Griff's is my go-to place when I want a quick and tasty burger. Soooo much better than a McDonalds or BK. Without going into detail, when my friend and and I used to eat here together, we did seem to develop a condition within an hour after eating here, that we used to call getting Griffed.
