Great dive bar with great drink prices. They only food they serve is from a vending machine. I love playing Charlie's Angels pinball or skeeball for hours while chatting with the locals.

If you're looking for fancy cocktails and foo-foo drinks, you're better served going to a different establishment. This place is indeed a dive. Rather unique to this establishment is the fact that they don't have a kitchen. This doesn't mean you go hungry, however. You're allowed to bring your own food from various establishments. You can also have food delivered to the bar. I find this to be unique and a model other places could follow. For being a dive, the bartenders were on top of their game. Drinks were made stronger than most other places make them. They were friendly and did a good job managing the bar and the various patrons (and it was an eccletic mix).

This is a great dive bar. Strong drinks, lots of games to play, awesome back patio, great staff. Only problem is that a lot of bros hang out there but that's not really the bar's fault.

It's always a positive experience when you can walk into a neighborhood bar and feel comfortable:) Instead, I walked in with a friend and the bartender immediately(claims he's the owner) proceeded to say, in front of an entire bar top of people that oh "last time I saw you was when you were with the curly haired guy that got wasted a month ago..." Ummmm my mouth dropped, as did my BOYFRIENDS that I have been with for three months. How. Freaking. Dare. You!?!?!?? Not only do I have to explain that the bartender was out of his GOD DAMN MIND for saying such words, but now I have to defend myself cause the fat little bartender didn't stop there. He INSISTED that I was there just a month again with "my curly haired friend", which, was actually In May. I have never EVER had a bartender speak to me in such a way. Was I rude? Was I belligerent in your bar? Did I not pay my tab? NO! You not only embarrassed me in front of your patrons, but you caused a fight between my BF and I. Next time you want to open your big mouth, make sure you have your facts straight. Who in their right mind calls out a customer unless they were under severe circumstances!? You are distasteful and full of arrogance. I hope the actual owner pulls it together and fires your ass because you are the epitome of badddd business. Get some class! What a terrible experience.

You really need to reconsider your position in life when Don's is your bar of choice. No parking. No food. Horrible staff. There are many bars in the area, don't pander to these losers. Do you like girls? Well, there arent any at Don's, so you might have to settle for the 90 year old dude with the oxygen tank who has been there since noon... of which there are about 12. Also, its a South Carolina Gamecocks bar during college football season... and seeing how SC might be one of worst states in the country, well, you can figure it out. It gives me great pleasure in posting this negative review and I truly hope it lowers your 4 star rating to a 3.5.

This used to be a fun place. Recently I have realized it's really nothing less than an "old boys' network". When men are going out of their way to be rude, insert expletive, they complain to bouncer. Whereas we women take the high road and "grin and bear it". In the end, we women get "in trouble" even when the men exploit us, grope us, etc " and still the bouncers here scold us women. It's wrong. I'm Done spending money here. Too bad this dive bar chases smart women away. What do you have when only men patronize an establishment?

  • Marina M.

Cheap drinks, divey and fun. This is a great place to hang out with friends but Can get crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. Don't hold your breath for a seat- they're tough to find. Very similar to horseshoe bar in uptown.

  • Chris M.

Don's is one of our regular spots. Cheap drinks and good times. We've been here when it's crowded and empty and have had good service every time. Vending machine with drunk food and microwave is pretty comical next to the bar.

  • Gee W.

Yes, this place is a dive bar. It has all the prerequisites for that: cheap drinks, a jukebox, random shit behind the bar, and a recent remodel....if by 'recent' you mean 1978. Michelob lamp shades, faux leather couches, dirty carpet, formica bar (that damn random lip on the bar has caused me to spill more than a few drinks)....it's got everything! What is strange (and really nice) is that the damn bathrooms are spotless. No graffiti, no piss on the floor, no terrible smell....I like it! The bartenders are great, they have a several games to play, a few TVs, all that stuff that everyone has mentioned. But one thing that is VERY worth taking a look at: the vending machine. This contraption deserves a few minutes of your time. It has, in no particular order: Oreos, cheese sticks, Fritos, Spam based products, frozen pizza rolls, and, wait for it.....slices of pizza. There is a microwave right next to this stallion of vending machines for your warming pleasure. Oh yeah, they have another interesting 'item', it is, in one package: a cig, a package of pop rocks, and a condom. Yes, you read that right! I am 100% sure you could make a full meal (and post-meal entertainment) from this vending machine of the future. In just a few years, your household kitchen will likely be completely replaced by one of these.... So there you have it, you can eat, drink, and play here. It's basically like the Wynn Las Vegas without the gambling or the flight there!!

This place is great, definitely a neighborhood favorite and a place for professional drinkers. No need to reiterate what everyone else has touched on, cheap drinks and typically a pretty raucous but enjoyable atmosphere. Bar gets packed so if you're too shy to squeeze in and order go to a bar with only 3 people, those are more fun anyway, right? Warning: the shuffleboard is absolutely the centerpiece of Don's, you will quickly notice this because the board will appear as a fresh carcass surrounded by hyenas. If you are attempting to join in on the feast get ready for a bro treatment. Shuffleboard is free which results in the lack of traditional bar rules. When inquiring about the status of the current game be ready for: "Nah, bra you gotta have girls if you wanna play." or "Meh, we're gonna play 3 or 4 games because we had to wait a while." You'll need to summon your moxie to take full advantage of your time here but you most likely won't encounter a dull moment.

Hello Dive Bar! Loved it. Great selection of beer and alcohol. Bartender was nice but wasn't overboard up in our business. This is a fun place to pop in to. Has some video games and shuffle board. It has a small outdoor patio in back. Worth a stop by to have a couple of drinks!

  • Heather C.

Love the drink specials, wacky vending machine and outside picnic tables, especially. Be prepared for your feet to stick to the floor inside. This is a total dive bar. Even when crowded full of jocks and people who I would expect to be pushy and rude, everyone was friendly and the bartenders were attentive. A great neighborhood haunt.

  • Richard R.

If you're not a fan of Don's then I'm not a fan of you. Sure, sometimes there are odd happenings, rude patrons (the douche bags, bra), shrieking girls with too much makeup and too little clothing, but if the drinks are good and cheap I can look past those factors. More times than none this is a great place to have a few libations. It's a neighborhood staple and the bartenders are always on their game. Even when it's crazy crowded (which will be every weekend) there's only a short wait for booze which is nice. I dig the old, beat up faux leather booths. Above that I love the dark lighting - it's totally chill. You got plenty of games including bumper shuffleboard, skee-ball and pool and a cool back patio with lots of room. This is a good meeting point for a group of peeps who don't have a plan for the night. Toss back a few, talk to the drunkards who are hanging out by the vending machine, enjoy yourself. HAVE FUN DAMMIT!

One of the best dive bars in Denver! Cheap, strong drinks and a friendly staff. Free shuffleboard and if you get there early enough, then you get free reign over the jukebox. Love this place!

One of the best booze establishments in all of Denver. Everyone I've ever taken here falls in love with it. It has a very varied clientele, cheap drinks and a super laid-back atmosphere. It reminds me of Austin.

Cheap beer, clean bathroom, good bartenders, fun games - Buck Hunter, Shuffle Board and Skee-ball. Definitely recommend for an inexpensive night out. Crowd were people in their late 20s and early 30s.

I want to open a Don's on the East Coast, this place is the best. Pool table, shuffle board, buck hunter, golden tee, jukebox, dukes of hazard pinball, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, and a vending machine with microwaveable snacks! Drinks are super cheap and the bartenders are on their game. During the weekdays it's pretty quiet and perfect to have a quick drink with the locals. On Friday, Saturday nights it gets pretty live and you end with a good mix of people. Dive bar that is good to people watch and attracts females, what more do you want.

  • Mark S.

Great laid back atmosphere with friendly staff. Only drawback is the weird smell once you walk in...might be the alcohol soaked carpet. No bar food, only a vending machine and a microwave (which is sometimes better than the wait for a kitchen staff). Foosball, skeeball, shuffleboard, pool, big buck hunter, 4 player Pac man, plenty to do.

  • Angela A.

I think it's safe to say this place is a dive, but I like the dives so I enjoyed my visit here with my bestie. The bar seems large. Most of the booths were really beat up, the seats were torn to shreds. The outdoor seating is a bit strange. There are several picnic tables lined up under a roof but it's surrounded by a high fence so it really didn't feel comfortable. I think maybe if I lived in that area I might frequent this bar, but I don't so I can't see myself going out of my way to hang out here. But when I'm in the area it's a nice place to stop in for one or two drinks.

  • Rebeca R.

Love me some Don's! Aww yeah, they got a fancy new shuffle board table! They still have the bumpers too! You must use the bumpers when playing here, otherwise get off the table - "when in Don's". They have a new set of pucks to match. They also got a lil skee ball game, how fancy! The juke and the 'pool' are rockin and the friendly weirdos are consistent. I have been frequenting this fine establishment since before the expansion when the door to the 'pool' went directly into the alley as an emergency exit. They have since reorganized the seating, doubled the space, added spacious bathrooms, and a big ole covered patio with picnic tables and heating so great you don't need a coat. I don't even smoke, but enjoy my time out there. I was lucky enough to get a tour from some random I met one night of the wall art, where he explained some of the history and pointed himself out in various old school images. Glad this place is doing well, in my humble opinion it is merely on the cusp of hipster dive bar - more like a local hang out than anything else. They make a stiff mixed drink and always have various CO brews on tap. The bouncer is always welcoming and the ambiance can't be beat. Long live Don's.

  • Mark S.

The place to go to feel like you never left college. I couldn't decide between 3 or 4 stars, but the bartenders were nice so let's give it that 4th star. But don't kid yourself. No amount of flowery hyperbole can hide what Don's is: A dive. Plain and simple. But it's a dive in the best ways. Cheap drinks, video games, shitty carpet flooring, post-college crowd reliving old binge drinking ways, and absolutely zero pretense. It's a dive bar, nothing more, nothing less.

    (4)
  • Katie L.

Ah Don's...usually the last stop of the night...thats potentially why I haven't reviewed it, by the time I get here, things are getting pretty hazy. The drinks are always cheap and made well, not like Lancer Lounge (R.I.P.) strength or anything but still good. It is divey but doesn't neccessarily feel dirty. Serve yourself water is nice and the vending machine is usually good for a laugh. PS- shuffleboard!

I'm still waiting to check this place out later at night when apparently it starts "happening." I went earlier in the evening after having been to another bar (yes, I started early) and it was rather empty. Seats are all ripped up, but it adds to the character. Just be warned...so you don't wear pants or a skirt that snags easily! LOL!! It really felt like a dive bar to me, which is cool, but I really need to check out the later scene and post an update!

When I first went to Don's Club Tavern (or affectionately known as Don's Mixed Drinks because of a poorly designed sign), I would have called it a dive bar too, but now when I see it on every list of popular dive bars I kind of contort my face. Don's used to be dark and crowded, almost too crowded to move. After a renovation the space is larger and brighter giving everyone a little more wiggle room. I'm not 21 anymore so frankly the additional space so you aren't squeezed up against strangers is a pro but it classed the place up a little and took it off my dive list. Today, Don's has a consistent staff who all seem to have worked there for years, a crowd of 20s and 30s who like strong drink and plan to have more than a few. The pool table and shuffle board always have a line of patrons waiting to take over and the juke box is on loud. It is busy and lively, a good place to meet new friends or find that awkward hook up you are seeking. It is a nice alternative to the downtown hoopla but still binge drinking friendly (I mean that in the best possible way). There is no food to speak of unless you count the vending machine filled with candy, condoms and Hormel meals (which I wouldn't). I recommend going during the week or early in the night, I'll agree with another reviewer that on the weekend it can tend to get a little "douchey". Go to Don's if you are looking for a lively night and are open to the idea of shots. Don't go if you are looking to quietly sip your beer against the wall. Make friends with the regulars and have a good time, but park your car on the street and plan to leave it there overnight.

This is a great bar. Fun locals hang out here. Jamie is a great bartender. This place has fun games- skeeball, shuffleboard, pool etc. drinks are cheap, people are worth chatting with.

Don's has opened up their new expanded space and it's awesome. There is a garage door that opens to the street. It's much more spacious. And the bathrooms are no longer in the middle of the bar. Plus, they serve Firefly Sweet Tea vodka. It's heavenly.

Young crowd, sticky floors, random music...but I like it! If you've ever been to 1up then this is going to be the same crowd. Young dudes and chicks in casual clothing bopping their heads to music people select from a pay to play juke box. The bar is quick with drinks and there is plenty of seating. Even though it's located on the busy 6th st, I found parking right in front of this place. Drinks are cheap and there are a few arcade games, a shuffleboard, as well as skeeball! Expect to shout to your friends and see random drunk people dancing. Place is hella dark so you feel like you walked into someone's golf loving den.

  • Morgan A.

OMG I usually love this place, but last night was an absolute disaster. The owner of the bar was in town getting into fights all over this place, bleeding everywhere. The girl they were with with cussing all the other females out. I cannot believe the cops weren't called on this bearded wreck. Note to the "owner"- don't ever come back to your bar because you made for the worst experience ever at your bar. Totally unacceptable and I am still in shock. EMBARRASSING!!!

Don's is like the Room of Requirement from Harry Potter...it's whatever you need it to be at that moment. Yeah, I just referenced HP in a Yelp review. Eat your heart out nerds. Need a place to start a night out? Don's. Looking to hang at one bar and people watch? Don's. Nightcap? Don's. Hoping to see a monkey knife fight? Back alley of Don's. It's a great spot for posting up at the bar on a weeknight and tossing back 23 gentlemanly drinks. I mean 2-3, yeesh. Really reasonable prices and the bartenders are quick even when super busy. This bar is really a Jekyll and Hyde situation on the weekends. Sometimes it's slammed with impressionable young women and other times it's just you and the pizza guy statue giving the thumbs up to dudes. There are also impromptu dance parties near the jukebox. They have shuffleboard and a pool table. Neat. Disclaimer: You will time-travel to 2am.

  • Brandon M.

Don's is my go-to dive bar. It gets pretty packed Friday and Saturday nights with an eclectic mix of patrons, but week nights expect it to be more empty than full. The beer and liquor selection is pretty good; there are always one or two craft beers on tap, in addition to the standard selection. The highlight at Don's, though, is the crowd. There are few better venues for people-watching, at least in this neighborhood. Check it out on a Friday night. There's even a vending machine if you get the munchies.

    (4)
  • Aaron E.

It's a crazy thing that happens at Don's on a weekend night. Go there at 8 and no one but the 3 old men at the bar are there. You then turn around at 9:30 and the place is full of wall to wall people. It is the best of both worlds. It has the feel of a normal dive bar, but the excitement of the downtown crowd. The cheap drinks especially the $2 PBR's and free shuffle board can't get much better than that. If you are loooking for a good time I highly recommend going here.

As much as I want to give Don's 5 stars, I can't. Don's is my most-favoritist bar evah. This is usually where I go when I go out. Don's is awesome 99% of the time. Great vibes, chill, awesome staff, cool regulars. But if you frequent Don's, you may know why they can't get 5 stars from me. There is often quite a scene change on the weekends around 10 p.m. It gets real douchey (the only word I ever use to describe when this happens). The music changes from Drive By Truckers to Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne. The place gets packed and sometimes, you can't even walk through the bar it's so crowded. Thanks to the AWESOME staff though, for keeping things moving. The back patio has some picnic tables and is heated for you smokers or just people that like to chill outside. They have a nice selection of activities including pool, shuffleboard and now, skeeball. They have Don's Club Kitchen (their vending machine) from which you can order frozen White Castles and Klondike bars. Since they expanded, there is never a wait in the ladies' room which is a huge bonus if you remember the wait *before* the expansion. The jukebox is usually playing good tunes, there is always ice-cold PBR for cheap. This is also a Gamecocks alumni bar, so you'll see it packed full of people yelling GO COCKS during the games. The same staff has been working there for YEARS, except for the new manager, who is awesome. They are always on their game and definitely deserve their tips. Don's will always be my home away from home and I will keep going there until I'm old and can point out MY picture on the wall to the young'uns and tell stories of what Don's was like back in my day.

This place is a total craphole. Enough RUDE, drunk idiots to make you think you're in LoDo, but decent enough parking all around to remind you that you're not. $10 credit card minimum, and bartenders who won't just make it $10 on two drinks so I can close my card and leave. $3 wells and people peeing in the alley... such a good deal I can hardly wait to return! Oh wait. Yes I can. And I'll wait forever before going back.

Fantastic little dive bar in Gov's Park area. Friendly staff, clean bathrooms, stiff drinks and FREE shuffleboard! Not to mention they have White Castle's in the vending machine... Have only been there once on an early Saturday evening, but look forward to frequenting the place once I move to the area.

This place is fantastic! $2 PBRs & the entire crowd is friendly and will chat with you while you wait to get a drink. This place is just a couple blocks from The Esquire Theatre, so we showed up at Don's for some pre-Rocky Horror Picture Show drinks in our full getups. We got a couple of funny looks, but for the most part folks just walked right up and asked what we were all dressed up for. We ended up chatting with lots of cool people as a result while enjoying frosty $2 PBRs. The music was pretty fantastic. They don't play a particular "type" of music here, it is definitely a mix, but not the usual "Top 40" by any means. They actually played that Flight of the Conchords song "The most beautiful girl in the world" (or whatever it's called) which totally made me happy. If I could make one recommendation, it would be that Don's get some more seating, maybe a few bartables & stools. There's kind of a large empty area and it certainly isn't for dancing. It'd be nice to have a few more spots to rest your brew. The people were awesome and the drinks were cheap. We had an absolute blast. I will definitely be back to pre-party before a midnight show of some fantastically cultish movie at The Esquire.

Worst service I've ever received in Denver, I was treated like an outcast the second I walked in because I didn't look like a local when all I wanted was a good beer in a dive bar atmosphere. We left in the first five minutes because of the awful selection and rude bartender. Avoid unless you want to be treated badly

OK, this place is a bit of a dichotomy. (did I seriously just use that word? AWESOME!) Come in before 9, and it's a true dive bar...the decor, the place, the cheap drinks to get the locals from the hood wasted. At 9 on it appears any damn night, it turns into a hip place that looks like a dive bar. And, in my mind, there's nothing wrong with that...it's always nice to have eye candy. The bartending staff here is off the charts good. They remember you, what you drink, and have it ready by the time you take your jacket off and put it on your barstool. It reminds me of a joint in Milwaukee I frequented in college...an eclectic mix of people later in the evening, great drinks and just a cool place to chill out and meet some new people.

So some girlfriends and I decided to check out Dons Tavern, we always pass by it and thought we should try it out instead of our usual neighborhood bar stops. Unfortunately the very first impression we got when we walked through the door was not a welcoming one. The grumpy doorman gave us serious attitude because one of us had an empty plastic CU cup from an earlier place (kinda lame that we were holding on to it still, but she went to CU and wanted to bring it home with her). We hadn't even fully opened the door when the jerk started barking at us about how we needed to "get rid of the thing NOW!". We were kind of stunned by his "greeting" and explained that it was empty, we had even rinsed it out earlier and we'd gladly put it in one of our purses. He wouldn't even let us finish a sentence and just started freaking out about how we could either follow his rules and throw it out, or leave. She threw it out and told him he didn't have to be so rude about it, which apparently made him even more mad, at which point he ended up swearing at us as we walked inside.... We actually ended up having a good time despite the whole incident. The crowd was fun, the music was good and the drinks were cheap. However, we'll probably just keep going the Govnr's Park or Park Tavern. The employees there are actually nice and don't act so crazy....

Another kick ass dive in Denver! Cool staff, strong drinks, good vibe. Sure, there can be some unsavory characters here and there, but it's a dive, so yeah. As far as my experiences go, fun times are always had.

Best hole in the wall. The bouncer is friendly. The bartenders are friendly. Most of the patrons are friendly. Once in a while there's a bona fide weirdo there, but hey, it wouldn't be a dive bar without them! The drinks are also pretty cheap. I've been going to Don's since before it was renovated. (Or as I like to say, it went from being a single to a double wide trailer). It used to be super small with practically no seating, but frankly, I found that to be part of it's charm! Perhaps I didn't mind because I was, well, always wasted by the time I showed up there during after hours, but oh well. Now it's almost double the size with extra booths. This has made me show up here before after hours, so I suppose it's a good thing. I've always had a good time here and would recommend this to anyone who likes dive bars. And for those on the fence, although it may not look like it, there are in fact normal and young people that go here!

I like dive bars. And this one has all the right ingredients: the no-nonsense bartender, stiff mixed drinks for $3, good jukebox, fake wood walls and a great assortment of drunks, friendlies and wierdos. You will even find people that are all three if you are lucky. I'd say this is a good weekday bar if you want to have a drink or two and watch a game on TV after a long day at work. Also a fun place to pre-funk on weekends if you missed happy hour. But I wouldn't stay late on a Friday or Sarurday. I suspect it gets pretty stupid. Overall, a great place if you like cheap drinks and strange people. I know I do.

I'm pretty new to the Denver scene, but friends of mine rave about Don's. They told me it was a hole in the wall, but it's actually nicer than I thought. The people there were generally mid twenties to to 30's, and most people were moderately attractive. There was no creepy 50 year old sitting there with his whiskey and not talking to anyone. I would rate this place as my new go to bar, plus the beers are super cheap. Borderline dive bar, good looking people, and mostly a singles pick up joint. I would not really go there on a date, it's too busy and loud. Overall a great vibe though.

Dive bar champ! Place is packed during the weekends -- everyone there (working or drinking) is cool & fun. Always enjoy myself at Don's!

If you have lived in Cap Hill at any point in the last 40 years, you've probably been to Don's "mixed drinks" club tavern, at least once. I lived 2 blocks away for a year and 4 blocks away for 3 years... I have seen this place go through many different phases. When i first started going to dons in 2004 or so, it was more "divey" than it is now. It has certainly gotten a bit trendy these days. Don's was an untouched dive that looked the same for like 40 years or so. It was a place to go just to get a cheap PBR, play some shuffleboard and talk with some friends without having to deal with the "popped collar lodo douchebags" nor the "too cool for you 14th st cap hill hipsters". Dons is the type of dive pub that has blue collar roots and should stay that way. Then a few years ago Dons was bought out by the Little Pub Co. This is basically a family of folks that owns more bars in Denver than you'd like to think. In fact, many of your favorite "neighborhood" joints are owned by this group. They are starting to get a lockdown on some previously great places. Little Pub co owns 3 Dog Tavern up in the highlands. Spot in west wash, Wymans no 5 in congress park, British Bulldog & icehouse downtown and several others that i cant think of. When they bought Dons they took a chance and bought the dry cleaners next door. After 40+ years, Dons was expanding. To their credit, Little Pub didnt totally destroy Dons with this significant change. I would say that it still remains similar in a lot of ways and if nothing else, the bathrooms are much improved. Still, something isnt quite the same with that extra space. Part of the allure was that it was small, crowded, tight and dingy. Now Dons is larger and is attracting a different crowd. Whatever... thats the evolution of Denver i suppose. Overall... Don's is Don's... if you havent been there.... go there... at least once.

Ya know, I really like Don's. I think it's an interesting place to go and is your typical dive bar that is rightly mentioned in the book, "Denver's Best Dive Bars." It's one of those places you go to and expect to see a ridiculous, mixed crowd. I once saw a guy have a conversation with his bike, get into a fight with it, pour beer on it and then apologize to it. It was a weird night but those are some of the people you come across. Hey, it's something I will always remember at Don's Mixed Drinks!

  • Loren B.

If you're like me, then you would give Don's four stars too. Even the name fully encompasses everything I love about Don's: 1. Don- probably a cool guy and obviously likes to drink- like the clientele 2. Club- yeah they play jukebox rap every now and then 3. Tavern- it's a hole; with chill people and cheap drinks Don's is just one of many great neighborhood bars around Denver, but it's the only Club Tavern. They have a pool table, shuffle board, and a vending machine STOCKED WITH FROZEN WHITE CASTLES!!! (microwave on premise) WHITE CASTLES. Don's Club Tavern- because it's a CLUB and a TAVERN!

If I only lived closer, i would be here every night! Its the perfect dive bar, and they renovated in the last year or so - so if you haven't been back come check it out. Complete with wood panel walls, $2 PBR's in bottles, golden tee, juke box, pool, shuffle board and sweet booths. I love this place. No complaints. - maybe food? But there is a very nice vending machine (cold one, so your cheetos are a bit chilly) you can get a hot pocket and a white castle burger. Just use the microwave next to the vending machine to heat it up. Nice. Great dive bar, good location, and cool people- what more could you want?!

This is a nice little neighborhood/ dive bar. The staff is friendly and the crowd is low-key and relaxed. I know is it is called a dive bar, but if it is a dive, I thought it was a little too clean, with that said I'd consider it a neighborhood bar. Check it out!

Things you must know about Dons Tavern: 1. $2 PBR $3 wells always 2. Very small narrow bar although they are expanding. 3. DIVE. Free shuffleboard. small arcade room. 2 picnic tables with patio in the back. 4. Just a very tight squeeze. When they expand I will re-evaluate this review. 5. Gets packed around 10 on Friday and Saturdays. 6. Perfect bar to pregame at.....wouldn't stay here the entire night. 7. Wouldn't commute to this bar if lived far away. I live close and its fun...my neighborhood dive bar everyone in the immediate area should check out. 8. Lots of fantastic restaurants all around Dons.

I guess your expectations cant be to high when visiting a local dive. The prices are right and have a good selection. But i think our bartender had more than me and my lady put together. He was hammered, and it wasnt even midnight yet. The crowd can be a little on the wild side and i wish that they served food, atleast for the bartenders sake.

  • Zack S.

It's a great little dive bar with cheap drinks and they're strong. It draws a good mix of people and it's walking distance from me. It's dark with neon signs, and usually not ridiculously loud.

This place is a total sausage-fest, both in the sense of the 19-1 male/female ratio, and the overwhelming feeling that a German culinary festival will break out at any moment. A lot of science-fiction types envisioned the world after the Third Reich victory as towering granite monuments and quick, one-stop, 24-hour corner deathcamps. In reality, it would probably be more like Don's - crushing banality and homogeneity with a side of crewcuts and 30" diameter biceps. Places like this make me thankful that Eisenhower decided to land at Normandy instead of Calais, and Zhukov took his troops South through the Caucasus instead of West through the steppe.

  • David S.

Come as you are. This place is relaxed, colorful crowd, cheap drinks, if you're nice to people, they're nice back. People that don't know each other actually talk to one another, and even buy each other drinks sometimes. Does that even happen anywhere else anymore? Not in my experience. This is the archetype dive bar. It's a dive, it's a bar. It's not trying to be cool, which, almost by definition, makes it cool. I'd give it 4 stars, but they have very cheap PBR bottles, worth a star in its own right.

  • Andrew W.

Coming from Nebraska, I felt at home here. Not that I love bars that are ho-hum, it's that you can actually meet real people here. People that are out after work, letting lose, having a good time, just like me. Good bar prices, not much room to move around, you're almost forced to hang out with the guy/girl next to you...I think that's a good thing. I enjoyed my night at Don's Club Tavern. May 2009 - The place currently is under construction/repair, in preperation for an expansion to double the space inside.

Cool people, no glitz and gloss this is a old school bar and they have cheap drinks. Be warned for you perenial bar flys this isnt a pcik up spot so come here and to chill. The jukebox will be very eclectic and as a matter of fact this Friday I got 1 hour Wu-Tang almost like they played it just for me to go with my Cheap Arse PBR's This was the destiantion of my Friday night I need a f'n drink tour, we started at america's, moved to atomic cowboy, then baker street in Lwood BOO! and finished it off with this cool dive bar.

When I walk into a dive bar for the first time, I think I know what to expect. When the guy that check my ID hands it back and says "you're going to LOVE this"....it starts to make me question if I really know what I'm getting into. Maybe it's because I had thrown on a sport coat instead of outerwear that night. I was wearing jeans! It's not like I was in formal wear or anything... But, we had a big time, and even though I was dressed a little out-of-place for the rest of mostly "Occupy Denver" crowd, the people we talked to seemed to be having a good time, and it beat the heck out of the pretense and posing being done elsewhere in the city. I'll be back.

One of my favs for sure... While it def has changed over the serveral years I have frequented this joint, there have been many improvements. Now, I admit...Sat nights can get a little DBish (douche bag)...but, when you go often enough, that does not interfere with getting your drink on. I love all the bartenders, great peeps!

If you like dive bars, look no further than Don's mixed drinks. With funky wood paneling, ages-old threadbare carpet, and a quirky mix of old alcoholics and young alcoholics, Don's is always entertaining. Their jukebox is stocked with just about everything you can think of, and they have pool, video games, and shuffleboard. The drinks are dirt cheap and strong, which is always a plus! The bartenders are nice, and the staff is cool as well (they let us host a chili cook-off contest here!). They don't serve any food, but you can bring food in from any of the surrounding establishments no problem-o. Don't forget to check out the patio in the back!

When you're lookin for a home away from home, look for homies from home. In town for some shows at Red Rocks, we had a fellow Stonian on the guns and wells here. I remember pieces. One part was drunk Olympics. Played some neighborhood guys in shuffle board. Was not familiar w/ these little shuffle board tables. I have to bounce it? WTF? If there's one thing ESPN taught me, it's that chicks dig long-ball. Anyway, gave em hell, but lost. My anger hides my pain. Then we ended up playing pool w/ some firefighters from Jersey, or some shit. Then shots, shots, shots. Pieces. Chicks. Hot tubs. Jager. Buddy used a 12 pack for a pillow. Crazy, right? Can't believe we still had a 12 pack... Good, friendly group of folks is really what I remember. Went there twice over a few days and had a great time. Every time. And there's a BBQ joint across the way if want your sop up that delicious liquor with some sauce.

Consistent as the mailman, Don's Club Tavern is right out a Bukowski novel. I don't think they've changed up staff in years. A great place for a quick cocktail, or to set up shop for a while starting in daylight.

  • Matt O.

I had to tap into my memory banks to remember that this bar is actually named Don's Club Tavern, as opposed to Don's Mixed drinks which everyone knows it as! This place went through some weird changes in the 9 years that I have lived in Denver. It used to be a dive bar, in more ways than one. It was fun. Cool jukebox, relatively harmless regulars, and PBR. Now, it has become somewhat chic divey. You still have the regulars and the PBR but there is a young crowd that likes to go there. They have shuffleboard and pool and interesting people. I like it.

  • Jennifer B.

This is by far the best dive bar in town! It gets a bit crowded on the weekends but I guess that's only because everyone in town wants to go there. They have expanded a bit but still kept the same dive bar feel. It's a must do if you haven't checked it out yet.

    (5)
  • Dominica H.

Love the new renovations, and the fact that the prices stayed the same. This place has become increasingly popular but still maintains its divey charm.

Cheap drinks and a great atmosphere. Have met some of my favorite people here. Always a good mix of people around at dons.. Def a go to spot for me. Seems to always have good music playin on the juke box.. Never a dull moment here

  • Jeremy H.

This bar should have closed when Don died. It was bought by the Little Pub Company and should have reopened as The Elm 2. The place is filled with overflow from LoDo and the people that used to inhabit this place, when Don was alive, no longer frequent the worn down bar. All the character has left, and the drinks are more expensive than a dive bar should be allowed.

    (1)
  • Adam W.

The best dive in the neighborhood. A word of advice: this isn't the place to go for a mojito. But if you like whiskey on the rocks, head on over. Gets really busy on weekend nights, so plan on standing if you get there late.

    (4)
  • Ryan G.

my new favorite place to drown the sorrows. cool all around. usually a pretty eclectic crowd, and pretty lively. i would give them the 5 *s but they don't carry wild turkey - that will change soon - so i have to drink jack, which kinda ruins my night, until i have a couple more sips. go during the week to play shuffleboard or pool - if you see me there then bring it on you will go down in either. weekends are real crowded but good scenery.

    (4)
  • Jaime D.

four stars - only because a dive bar should never get five. that would only take away from the beauty of 'diveness'. should be 'minus four' stars. anyway, my ride home into town always involves 6th ave, and Don's is an easy drive to my pad on 8th and a nearby block, so I obviously had no choice but to make my way into the joint. with all of you, too, right? pool table, shuffleboard, weird statue in the doorway...bartenders will tell you to f**k off, if necessary, Doc is a regular and sometimes 'guest' bartends (has a pegleg, by the way ((don't bother him unless you know him, he's the sh*t)),), drinks are cheap, booths are easy to sit in, you can yell, the fights are fun to watch and rarely go past the point of interjection unless you want to join the madness, great jukebox, stairway into hell(?), smoking patio, girls in casual jeans with a*ses, funky bathrooms, slurred speech, and, most importantly, friendly people that will socialize with everyone. get drunk here -

    (4)
  • Jerry H.

Don's gets it. It is a dive without trying to be one. The bartenders make the place. Miriah is cute and kind and can make conversation with anyone. TJ makes every newcomer feel welcome. Matt is a machine and gets you your drinks cold and fast. Jon is running the whole show. Was born to run Don's. The regulars are great, the juke box fantastic and the feel is divey but safe. The regulars will make you one of their own as long as you aren't an a@#hole. The mixed drinks are worth twice the price...but go for the PBR's! Go once, you'll go back a hundred times.

    (5)
  • Dave W.

Standby dive when you are sick of everywhere else and just want a drink, decent music selection and a interesting crowd. Definitely more "hit" than "miss". It saddens me that they have an electronic jukebox, if they had a regular juke would be a chance to better define the character of the place.

    (3)
  • Daniel T.

Other than being a complete sausage fest, this place was great. The atmosphere was pretty generic, but the crowd was good and drinks were cheep. I'm within walking distance, so I can see myself coming here often.

Best bar in Denver in my opinion. The crowd is always good and the drinks are always cheap.

Another friendly neighborhood bar that does nothing special but is still worth checking out. Standard drinks, no food but a pool table and a shuffleboard. They added a fenced in patio with propane heaters for smokers.

AKA Don's Mixed Drinks screams dive bar. Cheap drinks in a fun atmosphere so this place is notorious for getting crowded especially on the weekends.
