Pretty cool spot. There is parking right in front, even during a Rockies Game! Happy Hour Drinks are cheap, like $3 a draft. (And the bartender didn't hassle me about putting my one HH drink on my card, since I like so many other Denverites never seem to carry cash.) The music is cool, like Green Day & Alice n Chains, not Jay Z n Brittney. We wandered in here on accident, thinking we were at the place around the corner where we were supposed to meet friends (whoops). But, we hung out, had a beer, had a good time. It looks like they have a cool venue set up as well. I'll have to come back for a show...

One of the nicest live music venues I have ever been in and that includes NYC, Boston, LA, Tampa, Berlin....you get the point. The building is very attractive and perfectly laid out. The staff are super friendly. Bathrooms are sparkling clean. The attendant in the men's room had me laughing my ass off. He sings a song that goes, "Wash your hands, wash your hands, or you a dirty, dirty man..." I was there for the two day Until Death Industrial music festival. It was a perfect venue for something like that. It is key to be able to get food at an event that lasts ten hours. Casselman's serves up reasonably priced, edible food. No stupid no re-entry policy. If you are going to have an all day festival - people have to be able to come and go. Only gripes/suggestions. The 21+ only policy stinks for bands and promoters. Until Death would probably have sold a couple hundred more tickets if the event were 18+. The sound system is not stunning. If I was booking a band or show I would plan on bringing in some more equipment, especially low-end. The quality of sound was excellent, just not enough of it for the size of the venue. Drinks are a bit pricey and they need to get some more Colorado beers. Where is New Belgian and Odells? I don't care how good a deal Miller or Bud cuts you - their beer is swill and I won't buy it. I'm gonna go drink 1554 in the car thanks to the generous re-entry policy. In sum - Denver has a great new live music venue. Unlike some which will remain unnamed they treat customers as if they appreciate their business.

Denver Final Friday. I stopped in here with the wrist band they give you. The beers are cheap. The dancing and floor space is expansive. Good Sound System. And they have a BBQ joint right next door.

This place is not going to see me again Came here for great white concert The bar is very limited they really should think about other brands They ran out of beer on the first round WTF I am at a bar????? The promised bottle service for the VIP And they don't know what happened Never coming back they need to think about there guests instead of making excuses Poor marketing misleading!!! And the young bar tender by the stage sucks!!!! Bar rescue come here!!!

Saw a metal show there a couple weeks back and while that's typically not my style, the venue itself was pretty cool. Spacious, easy to find, parking not a hassle, etc. Crowded, yes, but the bartenders were really nice and I didn't think the prices were much different than other small music venues in the city. I'd definitely go back for another show.

Going to a show here last night was a massive disappointment. We waited in line just to get inside the building for over two hours. The bouncers checking ID's were rude and unfriendly. It felt like cattle herding. Upon arriving inside we realized we missed the entire first set. The venue was loud. Everyone was talking and you could barely hear anything the musician was playing. It's a shame too because he is a fantastic musician. The venue absolutely ruined the experience. After an hour long set change we finally got to see the main performance, only to realize the sound system was worse than we thought. The whole place was way oversold. It was not only a fire hazard but a terrible experience. There was absolutely no room to be comfortable. Everyone at the show was pissed off because of how long they waited in line and now how packed the venue was. This place ruined great music. Total travesty.

Was here Halloween for Alice 105.9's Exotic Ball. Not sure what was supposed to be exotic about it, the event was pretty tame. I noticed the music was excessively loud in the main space, but bearable in the main bar area. Being that it was late October in Denver, I had to wear a coat over my costume, but didn't want to keep it on all night. Unfortunately there is no coat check at this venue. I didn't want to waste a ton of calories on drinks, so I actually ordered vodka water with lime. I wasn't surprised my drink was pretty weak (that was the point) but my husband did not order a watered down drink but he said his wasn't as strong as he would have liked. There was, however, a Twisted Cream booth serving alcohol infused ice cream that was plenty strong! If this is an option, I say skip the bar and get the scoop of ice cream! It was a fun night, I think if I go next year, I'll definitely have to bring more friends.

This was a terrible venue to perform at. The management team attempted to make sense of what ending up being a complete performance nightmare for our dance troupe. 1, The heating was completely out on a sweltering day 2. The lights were not suitable at the venue. The light guy continuously did not turn on the spotlight until the audience actually yelled out "The MC is on the stage TURN ON THE SPOT LIGHT." He continuously flashed the audience in the eyes with erratic light arrangements. 3. The sound continually cut out DURING OUR SHOW 4. The sound man was distracted reported "I have never done an event like this" and was talking to the bar tender and not paying attention to pivotal cues during our performance. Overall the event was an embarrassment to our performance troupe. The staff was unprofessional and did nothing to compensate us for the numerous losses we had at this event. I will never book with them again and discourage all performance artists from booking here as well.

Awful. The lineup was local trash, awful local trash. The acoustics in the square box venue are terrible. There was literally an 8-11 year old boy on the shoulders of somebody watching the awful bands (11pm). I bought tickets to see Saliva and couldn't stick around to see them because the experience was that bad. I'll never go back to Casselmans.

Horrible!!! We went to a concert there last night and got in line 45 minutes before show time thinking that was plenty of time. It would have been if Casselman's had their act together! We waited in line for 1 1/2 hours, a line that went almost around the block, because they only had one guy at the door checking ID's Wouldn't you think if the line was that long, it would be a sign to have more staff checking people in? We missed the whole first act and most of the second act! We won't go to a concert there again!

Drove out from Colorado Springs with my wife who is Vet from Iraq freedom. She received a spine injury and when we showed up at 6:10pm (doors open at 6:30) and waited till 7:30 in line before giving up and heading some where to find some music that did take all night to hear. Provide better for the people who want to see you. Very disappointed

Been to four different events here, and the entertainment has been decent. The venue is not. They leave the place trashed and don't clean floors, tables, or surfaces all night, no matter how many cups, plates, and pieces of trash accumulate. The wait staff--namely the bartenders--apparently never learned to smile, or tend bar, for that matter. They know how to pour a $6 beer into a plastic cup and make a drink with one kind of alcohol and one mixer. That's it. Don't ask any questions, or you will be met with a blank stare. There are too few women's bathrooms. And the oddest thing--they have attendants in the bathrooms. These are bathrooms that are already extremely small. Having someone constantly talk (or sing) at you while you're in the stall and make comments about your appearance as you wash your hands is offputting. Won't be back here, no matter how good the party is.

Please be careful of the GM, Drew. I was there with my sister for a concert, and Drew grabbed me by the hips from behind and squeezed as we walked past. A couple minutes later, he approached us near the bar and asked me to do shots with him, because I seemed "uptight." I told him "no," and walked away. Shortly after that, he approached me again and tried striking up a conversation. At this time, my sister abruptly walked away because he had crossed the line with her personal boundaries, too. I told him that his actions were inappropriate, and that he needed to stay away from us. For the rest of the evening, he would follow us around and glare whenever he passed us. Before we were ready to leave, I reported his conduct to the employees at the front, only to then discover he was the GM. While talking with the employees, Drew approached us and accused me of exaggerating, because I had allegedly been drinking. Unfortunately for Drew, my sister and I had not had anything to drink that night while he openly admitted to drinking, in addition to denying any wrongdoing and slurring his words while speaking incoherently. He then reminded us that the exit was behind us. I'm almost certain this is not an isolated incident and he will behave like this again until action is taken. In ending, the only meaningful words I can offer are: Ladies, beware.

This is a great venue! I came here for a much anticipated concert and was pretty impressed with this place. Security/will call/ overall getting in to the space experience was awesome, compared to what I'm used to in Chicago or St. Louis. The bartenders were nice and not too hard to get a hold of. Finding parking was pretty difficult even though we were early. The ceiling, stage, and available seating made this a great place to see live music. Not too crowded at all and the acoustics were nice. Water was free and easily accessible which was a highlight for me as well. No dehydration here!!!!!

Casselman's has hosted three events for the non-profit I work at. We were the primary sponsor of two of the events and both times the owners have been incredibly willing to work within our budget needs and offered us everything we needed, from technical set-up to tables and chairs. The catered food is quite good (we've always had a vegetarian menu and the choices have been top-notch). We have our own security staff and they've been easy to work with in that regard as well. I highly recommend Casselman's as a venue for all types of events.

I was at Casselman's for the Brothers O'Hair show, and I also sat at the bar prior, so I can safely say this is a review of both the bar and the venue. First, the Good: The Venue room is big, with decent acoustics (Probably due to the beautifully curved, hardwood, open ceiling.) It was lit well, too, accenting the woodwork and brick walls. The stage lighting was good, too. This particular concert was 3 bands, each with a different style, so the combination setup of the room worked well: Tables and Chairs in the back with open space up front. Next, the Meh: The prices for a draft beer were extravagant. (Really? $6 for a Brew?? Where am I, South Beach?) The Bartendress was woefully inept... she couldn't keep up with the patron's orders, and we waited (literally) 10 minutes to be acknowledged, and another 10 for our beers to be poured. She was friendly enough, but just very obviously an amateur. And at this time, the bar was maybe half-full. I can only imagine when the place gets kickin' (I sent the boys for the rest of my beers that night!) Also: Be prepared to be carded, even though you were just carded at the door. Keep your ID out, it'll just be simpler. They did have $3 Tuaca on special (What is WITH Denver and Tuaca? Blech.) But at least that's an inexpensive libation option. The staff overall was friendly, the space was funky and cool and cozy all at once, and the music was awesome. Yay, Brothers O'Hair!! Because of their performance, I'd like to up Casselman's to 4 Stars, but because of the prices and the pathetic bartendress, I just can't. I'll be back, though, if another band I love plays a gig there.

Good place for live bands. The acoustics and sound system were really well done. I went to a music showcase the other night, which made me feel like a judge on American Idol or something. All different styles of bands came on in the same night. Will have to find more events like this, because it is a great way of learning about local bands in a short amount of time. Bartenders were extremely friendly. Definitely off the beaten path. DT

Overpriced DRAFT beer and only 2 urinals and 2 sinks in the guys bathroom. the acoustics suck too so definitely one of the worst small venues here. All of this in addition to all the indoor pot smoking.

Went here for food, this place would make a great place for bands or large events as they have the space to do it. The staff is kinda friendly, the food is a bit overpriced and the portion are way over priced but tasted good for what we ordered. Its a good place to meet as it's located close to downtown and the highway, but this isn't my favorite place to eat, I mainly come and and visit and eat as my friends like it there food. There portions remind me of small plates restaurant but at a high price.

We went a saw a Journey cover band.. My only gripe is it's location.. taking public transportation was tricky. We ended up taking the Light Rail then walking from the 30th & Downing.. normally I'm all about getting some extra exercise to help burn off some of the booze, but it was one of the coldest nights in Denver this winter. Once there, everything was great. Nice giant hall for concerts, a nice fancy bar, and the clientele was tons of fun. Fast and friendly bartenders and as I mentioned, a great big stage and dancing area!

Why I go to Casselman's on Tuesdays. It's pretty quiet on Tuesdays, but we fill up the front bar. July 7th - September 29th, 2009 from 6:00pm to 10:00 pm you may bump into travelers from all over the world. Casselman's is the new 3 month home to the Denver's CouchSurfing crew. We have organized a weekly meet up called the "Denver Metro Mile High Mixer" every Tuesday. We revolve around different bars to switch up the scene every couple months. The reason is to get out and meet other travelers visiting here in Denver or other local CouchSurfers in the community. The bar service is great, we have a few drink specials if you are wearing a CouchSurfing nametag and the food has sure not been disappointing. Bands have not been playing on Tuesday nights, but I'm sure Casselman's would not mind getting that going. Come out and check it out! The Denver CouchSurfers would love it and even more so, the bartenders would too.

This bar was ok. I went for new years eve and it was a good crowd - mixed- with awesome music. There was a DJ and the drinks were a decent price and pretty good. Their coat check "plan" was horrible though because it took us almost an hour to get our coats at closing. There were actually a few little verbal altercations between people at the coat check since everyone was so irritated it was taking so damn long. The reason this bar only gets 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 was the people that frequent this bar seemed to be a mix of cool people that want to have fun and well...the "others". My friend actually had his wallet pick-pocketed there and the people used his credit card AT the BAR (not to mention the gas station, Waffle House and a plethora of other places). So, there were obviously some low-lifes that hang out there so make sure you carry your mase or leave your wallet in the car!

I gotta say, this place has a TON of potential, but there are some elements missing. The bar has a pretty limited selection of liquors and bottled beers. Also, I have been there a few times and some of their events have been bombs. I think they are a pinch overpriced too. BUT the outdoor deck is awesome, they have tons of security and staff. You are never left waiting long for a drink (as they will set up 3 bars sometimes). The staff is awesome and the manager/owner is always on site to make sure things are going smoothly. A ton of parking and walking options even from lodo. It's an awesome spacious, attractive venue with tons of potoential!

  • Sherri K.

There was so much good, but so much average about this place I am still torn. The place is huge! I could see how this would be an amazing spot to see a show or to dance. It's also in a great location downtown with lots of parking. The deck is also an ample size, perfect for people watching at the entrance/exit. All this being said, there is no seating for hanging out on the patio which lends itself to lurking above the entrance, or simply inhaling smoke (which is why the other people are outside). The staff was ok. They make and serve drinks, but really had very little personality. I never thought "these guys are great, I can't wait to come back here." Matter of fact, there wasn't 1 bartender I felt I should have given loyal service to - any one could have poured my drink. and, bummer, it was kind of boring. Without great music, this place would have crickets as background noise...and the music was just ok the night I was there. I never thought, "I love this...I have to dance" - not once. Overall, it was ok.

  • Peter V.

I'll throw in an extra star for the venue itself which was awesome, but the bartender was either completely indifferent and took her sweet time, or she was insanely rude. Sorry sweetheart, but even if it's loud I can still lip-read. At least have the courtesy to talk sh%t about your customers after they walk away from the bar. Overall, I went for a show and had a good time, but I'll give this place a long break before I come back...if ever. Hopefully, they'll have some new staff by then.

The new kid on the block! Yeah! It was the old/new shakespears local, but now home to a new watering hole! Their kitchen isn't functional yet, but next week they'll have breakfast burritos in the morning and full menu at night! Thei venue in the back has been revamped and i'm excited to see who they bring in. The bartender was cool, the server was nice. The beer was flowing. There was a nice amount of people flowing in and out, so fingers crossed that it lasts! Patio is nice and big. Hate to give away a new neighborhood secret, but we need people to visit to it stays around longer than Shakespears did!

  • Kate G.

Casselman's has the right idea - a bigger live music venue in this neighborhood would be great. But the layout is just off. To me it felt like being in a big cold barn. Yet even with all that room, most people always seem to be crammed around the bar areas or on the outdoor patio. With so many other great spots in this city to catch shows - both big and small - I didn't find any reason to come back.

This is a great event space! I came here for the I heart Cruisers Valentine's Day event (Yelp was running the photobooth) and was pretty impressed with this place I've been hearing so much about for the past few months. It's more of a raw space for all kinds of events, but I can see how it would be great for live music. Generous pours, friendly bartenders, nice little loungey area by the bar and lots of space to loiter. Seems like parking could be an issue, but then again I hate parking and driving these days, so maybe it's only an issue to me. Note: they make a pretty damn tasty burger, and their slighty-spiced crispy fries are to freaking die for. I think I may have liked the fries more than the burger, and that's saying a lot. I will definitely be back to catch some live tunes!

    (4)
  • Megan N.

To be fair my review is for a non- live music event. I went for a local networking group event. Which was fun. A bit weird of a layout for this type of event. The talking and meeting went on in the big room in the back but the bar was up front. So made it a bit awkward, but I could see how that works for a show. The bar was pretty good. A bit pricey on some inexpensive beers, but I know its a music joint. I like the ambiance of this place. Pretty neat. Not sure what the price of a cover is. When i was at the network event I dropped my business card in the bowl to win. I got an email a month or so later that I had won a night there with friends and some free drinks and or app. Well I wrote them back, but never heard back. So i guess I didn't win . . .

Just attended an event here, and it was an overall nice experience. Free parking; cheap beer; lots of space to spread out. They have an interesting lineup for music and it was pretty easy to see the stage from any vantage point. Added bonus: clean bathrooms.

Tried this new-kid-on-the-block for lunch today and it was so-so. Looks like they're still getting setup, and in their defense, the manager/owner did tell me that the grand opening isn't until July 17th. Service was decent but my order, a simple BLAT, was pretty ordinary and nothing to write home about. The french fries were also really bland and tasted like the oil they had been fried in. My friends, who ordered a ruben and a cheeseburger, agreed with the "could be better" thought but again, we all recognized the potential this place could have. Overall, acceptable but looks like they still have some kinks to work out. Oh - but if you're looking for a great downtown wedding reception venue, this could definitely be a possibility. HUGE room in the back and I could definitely imagine a pretty kickin' reception held there.

We went to some red-carpet shindig at Casselman's on Friday night. There was music, free food and free drinks. I'll wander into just about anywhere for these things. I like this place as a venue. With a large stage, high ceilings and big room, I'd love to see some bigger name artists there. The food was kind of gross. The drinks were kind of weak. We interacted with two staff members, both blond bartenders. One was very nice and friendly, the other was quite the opposite. I'm sort of indifferent as to if I'll want to go back, unless there was a really good act to see on their stage.

Came for a show & the dickhead doorman refused to let me in for no reason! He made me stand out in the freezing cold knowing that I didn't have any means of leaving partially because I had been te-boned earlier that day & as a result my car was totaled. He wouldn't even let me stand next to the outdoor heater. Despite my friends & I pleading to let me in he still refused. I really wish I could have seen the venue & the show that I was so looking forward to but now I'm certain that I will NEVER be going to Cassleman's for any occasion.

I went to Casselman's on Friday night for a happy hour being thrown by my gym that happens to be located next door. (See my review of Qi Athletic Club.) Casselman's always appears to be busy during the lunch hour with people from local businesses and I was excited to give it a shot in the evening. The bar area was very crowded. I would imagine that it was partially because of the happy hour and partially because the Nuggets were playing game 6 of the Western Conference Finals. Despite the crowds, the waitstaff did a great job of keeping up with the patrons and making sure that everyone was okay with drinks and food. We ordered the Kobe beef sliders which were very good. They look small, but were very filling. We escaped the crowds by eating them out in the patio area which has 5 or 6 tables and plenty of space for smokers. The drinks were also very strong, but cost about $8 each for top shelf liquor. There is a small stage near the entrance that had local musicians playing once the game ended. (The back portion of the building is a huge concert area that I would imagine hosts larger shows.) I enjoyed my evening at Casselman's and will likely head back from some live music in the near future.

This venue is set up as a bar with one pool table and a large stage for live music. The floor for the stage is completely flat and for some reason carpeted. The specials lighting all points at the stage except for two large strobes that hit the audience. There is a video screen in the corner. I haven't seen a band perform here, but I have seen a dj event. The dj's were in the wrong place, the carpet makes dancing difficult, and the lighting and sound are atrocious. It would take some rearrangement to allow dance events to be more focused and successful. This venue is attempting to be an afterhours spot but without food, decent non-alcoholic drinks, or anything to do that will certainly be difficult. It's also curious that the owner bartends even when he has a full staff working.

This is a great place to have a bunch of people. As noted, their back room is great for local meetups. The live music is also a cool appeal on certain nights. Overall, the ambiance is nice. There's a chiil porch out front, polished concrete bar. The staff are friendly but are very much still in start-up mode (lack of attentiveness, poor communication). Overall this is a nice place in the ExDo area and I look forward to watching it grow.

This was the worst show I have ever seen. It was so amazingly bad I will never go back. I don't care how great the venue is, if the show sucks, what's the point? Someone had the bright idea to distract the audience from the horrid music with go go dancers. They HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO DANCE!!! High school girls who have had 2 hip hop classes do not count. Save your money, save your evening, go ANYWHERE else.

I'd give this place 3.5 stars if halves were possible, but in the Yelp world we all know they aren't. We wandered into Casselman's after leaving the Walnut Room Friday night. Adam the owner was on the front patio waving us in, and proved to be a riot. The band was good, there's a pool table, and service was pretty decent. I went back for lunch today and found the same to be true. One thing that was disappointing both times was how long it took for the food to come up. I mean, a quesadilla should take next to no time to get an order up, especially without a ton of people in a restaurant, but both times the quesadilla was slow. A nice addition to the RiNo district, and 2 thumbs up for their willingness to host community events (both Refresh Denver and Ignite Denver have upcoming meetings planned at Casselmans). Not my first choice, but a solid choice.

I really like this place! The few times I've been here the staff has always been friendly as well as all the other patrons. I wish they offered more selection of food though. They need more seating on the patio area, perhaps once the weather is nicer they will. Good variety of shows! Prices are decent. Also, check out all the one-of-a-kind artwork that's for sale - the artist is AWESOME!! He was working the front door the last time I went. Pretty sure his name is Brian, he used set up his easel and do his art at Benders - so talented!! If anyone knows how to get in touch w/ him (webpage, e-mail, FaceBook, etc...), please let me know!

Good location but limited menu and bad service. Oh, and it's a hotspot for douchebag frat boys looking for a fight. Dude elbowed his way into the pool game my wife and I were having with another couple and ended up assaulting me. Oh, and then the manager on staff tried to kick me out, as if it was my fault.

  • Lee S.

Not impressed. Went in for lunch the other day, the food was fine but the menu was very limited as were the choices for sides etc. No one in the place under 40, nonetheless there was young urban adult music blaring, and I mean blaring, and skateboarding on all the TVs. If they want the young urban hip folks to patronize their place that's fine, but I can pretty much guarantee that's not who's going in there for lunch (at least not now), well maybe they might now that they know such a place exists. I'm not going back and judging from the looks on the faces of the other folks who were eating when I was there, they won't either. I was hoping to find another nice neighborhood lunch/happy hour place, this ain't it.

Classy little joint! Sound is solid, drinks are average price, but really well mixed. Saw Coles Whalen here and it was pretty awesome. The venue has decent food, but is a little lean for places to sit and eat it. This is a great place to see your fave act up close and personal.
