Disclaimer: I'm an admitted snob about Mexican food. I'm one of those Southern California brats that thinks he knows how it's supposed to be. Well this place WAS. It started with a solid salsa and the server actually knew what a Cadillac was! I've learned that you can't take that for granted in Colorado... I had an excellent mole with chicken that was juicy and flavorful. And my kids got carnitas that somehow kept ending up on my fork. Service was worthy of the food. Seemed like the kind of place that goes above and beyond. Otra vez!

solid food, but certainly not amazing, i can honestly say i liked del taco better first off, finding this place is tough, no major signs even though we circled for a half an hour. calling the staff doesnt help either, they gave us bizarre landmarks and i was about to give up until i spotted it. when we got there, i saw the dining area is pretty small. this place looks like a shack, in a seedy little town that is cortez. they wanted to sit us right in front of the door, i said no. they told us the wait would be a half hour, i looked at my bf and asked how bad he wanted to eat here and he said not bad so i said we'll leave. then they found us a table! ok on to the food nachos-good, but i didnt like the salsa, it had cilantro(vile weed!) and was very watery tacos- beef, good, not great, i like hard shell tacos and these were very greasy, like oil was literally running down my hand, no thanks check please! and adios cortez

Delicious food try the Tierra y mar. And the tequila in the hoof. So delicious. Great people, great food can't go wrong.

I wasn't sure what to expect of Mexican food in CO. Growing up near Mexico I've always been a bit snobbish in my review of Mexican food. Boy was I pleased that we stopped to eat here! We all had different food and everything was delicious! I'd highly recommend stopping by for a very satisfying meal and great service.

Excellent spicy salsa, very good fajitas, good whole beans. The service was fast and friendly. Stopped on our way through town based on Yelp reviews and glad we did.

It's good, solid Mexican food (I had the enchilada). Service was friendly, and prices were pretty cheap.

Excellent food. I had the relleno burrito and almost ordered another it was so good. Very nice staff and I enjoyed the outdoor seating area.

Tried this place because of the great reviews and was not disappointed!! Very friendly Mexican staff, and Amazing Mexican food. They have a great selection on their menu and everything tastes fresh and homemade. Had the shrimp and mushroom dish, very flavorful and not spicy just tasty. My fiance had the chili relleno, he's Very Picky about that dish but said this was the best one he's had on a very long time. That's saying a loot because we visit Mexico on a regular basis. Will definitely be visiting this restaurant ever time we come through Cortez!

We just completed our exquisite meal. Quick staff, excellent meal & reasonably price. Don't miss out.

Start with the salsa. A nice bite to it. I had Enchiladas Rancheras. Only got half way through it. Looks like breakfast tomorrow! Highly recommend this restaurant if you find yourself in Cortez CO!

The address is inaccurate on yelp. It's at 332 e main I believe. Read the reviews on yelp and la casita did not disappoint. Food was fantastic and I rarely complain or rave about service but the service at la casita was top notch. Definitely recommend after a long day at Mesa verde.

Thanks Yelperz! I saw the high ranks and I was not disappointed. Walked in and said I wanted a vegan chimichanga...and after making sure we agreed on what ingredients that meant, they were off and running. Only then did I look at the menu to see that my request is not on the menu (yet), so I braced myself just in case. However, to my delight, the chef is excellent and whipped up a wicked delicious vegan chimichanga. Next time you go, you can ask for it. (might need to say veggie chimichanga with no cheese/sour cream). It had beans, onions, avacados, pico, carrots, zucchini and maybe something else I forgot. See my photo. Awesome salsa also. Cant want to go back next time I pass through.

Not only is the food fantastic but the service and owner are the best. Coming from Arizona I've had great Mexican and this place is at that level. If you have a great time, invite the owner for a shot. He has a homemade drink in a cow leg bottle that we surprise you and it won't be what you expect. Highly, highly recommend this place.

Eaten here 2 out of the last 3 days while in town for work. Had the albondigas the first night. It was as authentic as it comes...of the lighter broth variety, hearty and full of flavor. 2nd night I had the chicken mole - spicy style. Again, top notch...strong red mole with deep, rich flavor and good, light heat on the back end. Although only one mole is on the menu, you can order it sweet (chocolate style) or spicy red style. Excellent salsa, super friendly owners, and passable margs, although a bit overpriced at $8 a pop for the house. As others have said, this place is awesome, legit and authentic...don't pass it up.

  • PJ M.

Mexican food as good as it gets! Friendly staff greet you and offer you a seat, followed by a suggestion of a house Margarita. Margaritas are fresh and delicious (real lime juice, no nasty sour mix). Chips and salsa while you read through the menu are warm (the chips) and spicy (the salsa). We had enchiladas, chili rellanos, and tamales. All were fresh and tasty with just the right spice. The beans were not from a can...awesome!!! We finished with house made desserts (flan)...yummy!!! With drinks...dinner...dessert...tax and tip; $35 per person. Great food...great value!

  • T R.

Super good place with amazing food, decent prices, good service. I got an enchilada plate that was super tasty without the blandness that can affect some Mex places. Previous night I got a really amazing sea food soup that was more interesting, maybe too interesting. We sat in the patio, the inside looked cramped. Salsa is really good.

Passing thru Cortez this small hole in the wall. Needed to order food to eat in car as we traveled on to California. Ordered chile relleno burrito and a carnitas burrito. chips n salsa was included to go. Chips were delicious salsa fresh and spicy. The burritos well we had to pull over to you eat parked. That was alright because they were great muy muy rico!!!!

  • Paul H.

Love this place. The flavors jump off the plate. I had the beef enchiladas. They were prepared differently than I expected and were amazing! Service is polite and fast. My whole family love this place and we make it our regular stop.

This hidden gem was quite possibly the best Mexican restaurant that I've ever been to. The service: The service was really good. They were attentive to all our needs. They refilled all our drinks in a very timely manner. They refilled our salsa 3 times...haha. The food: The food was traditional and exceptionally delicious! All of us were tired from hiking in Mesa Verde, and the food here definitely hit the spot. The salsa was really great. I couldn't stop eating it...and I don't like salsa normally. The price: The price of the food was very reasonable. It was around 10$/plate...and on your plate you get a very generous portion. Overall: I've never had Mexican food this good. I want to travel back the 6 hours just to have another meal with them. I wish we would have found them sooner on our trip. It would have been all I ate. If you're going to Four Corners or Mesa Verde, then this is the stop for you. Trust me, you're going to love this! Look for the little red door!

Light on atmosphere but excellent on food, service, price and their skinny margarita.

  • Jimmy W.

Absolutely delicious fresh Mexican food. The owner and staff are very friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile to make sure you have a great dining experience. There isn't a ton of space but the friendly staff more than make up for the lack of space!

  • C B.

Delicious food, quickly served. Friendly and courteous staff. Such a relief, as we are a family of five, with diverse palates!

I was in town for business, and this place deserved the hype on Yelp. Great good, great service, and the staff was extremely nice and accommodating to a lone wandering soul.

  • S A.

The best meal we've had in a long time. I had shrimp enchiladas any my hubby has carne asada. Both were perfect! The entire staff was super friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that we don't live closer. I would eat here at least once a week!!

    (5)
  • Ginger A.

Stopped in for dinner on our vacation and it was enjoyable and affordable with good, attentive service and delicious food. The homemade salsa was nice and spicy. I loved my chile relleno and beef taco, and my husband said his veggie burrito was good too. It was fairly basic fare and a plain dining room...but the meal was good.

    (4)
  • Marc S.

Really good. Best Mexican in my radius. I drove 50 miles to eat here today. Never disappoints. I could drive to telluride in 30 minutes but I'd rather drive an hour one way for this.

    (5)
  • Alyssa A.

Salsa- excellent, service excellent, burro relleno excellent. Only thing that could have been better were the chips for salsa. Skinny margarita- excellent!

    (5)
  • Esther P.

Delicious food! Great prices and friendly service. This is a hole in the wall but obviously is well known. Would highly recommend if your in the area.

    (5)
  • Greg P.

Hole in the wall mexican food. Friendly service, decent food. Tortilla on the burrito was thin so you weren't overwhelmed with flour taste. Spicy flavor but not so much as to make you tear up or drain the sinuses. Chips and salsa were good. Chili Rellenos were a bit over fried and greasy but the cheese was gooey and good. Tamale was tender and well proportioned in the masa to meat ratio. Overall good food, for Cortez GREAT. Best mexican in Cortez that I know of. They are moving to a spot on the main drag in November of 2014.

  • Nora P.

Don't pass up this little gem! Family run little place, tastes like my Abuela is in the kitchen.

  • Azael G.

Real Mexican food guys. Very flavorful. We found this little cool place while driving through Colorado. Service is very friendly. Their menu has an option for everyone, Steak , chicken, seafood, veggies.

    (5)
  • Sarah A.

This is what you would consider a "hole in the wall" place- being that it is authentic and delicious! The food is absolutely amazing! The chile relleno melts in your mouth. The service was extremely fast! The people were gracious and friendly. I am very glad we tried this place. If I lived any closer, I would make this my regular Mexican joint.

    (5)
  • Heather M.

Delicious homemade salsa with just the right amount of cilantro. I split the trio plate with my fiancé, which is a great deal and the perfect amount of food for 2 people. Best shredded beef taco I've ever had, hands down and I love tacos. The shells are handmade here to order. Yum!

I will start this post with one word...WOW! We had heard from a friend that this was the place for Mexican food in Cortez, and boy was he right. We just went in for some takeout food, and were wowed by the ambience right when we walked in the door. Simple, clean, and authentic. If your in the mood for damn good Mexican food, then do yourself a favor and come to la Casita de Cortez. P.s. parking is limited, park in the city market parking lot adjacent to it.Best Mexican food I've had living in SW Colorado in 15 years!

  • Kathleen V.

After a morning at Mesa verde this was the perfect place for lunch. The service was fabulous, the margaritas were easy and the food was phenomenal, I would definitely dine here again!

  • Brooke C.

This place was AMAZING!! The food was fantastic, the service was great and the price was super reasonable. We had enchiladas (both beef and chicken), tacos (both carne asada and ground beef) as well as a veggie burrito. Everything was wonderful and the portions were huge. We ate til we could eat no more! The salsa was tasty and spicy (so hard to find for our spice loving family) and the chips were bottomless. What a wonderful find in this little town. I wish we were staying longer just to eat there again :)

  • Don E.

Excellent food I hAd shrimp ceviche appetizer and chile verde both were excellent and the service was great

    (5)
  • David J.

Fantastic salsa! Can't tell if this was a result of being really hungry from hiking at Mesa Verde, but that might've also been the best burrito I've ever had. Very nicely seasoned and tender beef and very good green and red pepper sauce. Excellent place to stop if you're going Mesa Verde to Four Corners. The food is definitely more exciting than Four Corners :P

    (5)
  • Alyssa R.

Hands down, the best Mexican food that I've ever had. The salsa is spicy and flavorful. I had the chile rellenos burrito and it was spectacular. The service is great and the food is amazing. Do not miss this restaurant!

First of all La Casita de Cortez has moved to 350 E Main Street, Cortez, CO. It is around the corner from the previous location. When you are in Cortez and if you love great Mexican food this is a place you should get to know. Superlatives are deserved for the food at this place! Our group of 5, including 2 who live in Tucson and have lived in Austin, agreed the food was as good as any we have had. The kitchen is based on Jalisco style and is very good at it! I had the tacos carne asada and loved them. The red salsa and the cabbage salsa are excellent. If you like a margarita be sure to choose the skinny margarita. The owner and staff are friendly and accommodating. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough except to say that we will eat here again tomorrow night, our second night in a row and last night in town and that should tell you how much we enjoyed our dinner.

    (5)
  • Jack J.

Good service and authentic Mexican food. I had the green chili plate which was well executed. I did wish for more heat, but hey, this is Colorado not New Mexico. I'd go back if I was in Cortez again.

  • Cindy P.

Spent 2 nights in Cortez; got to see the last night at their previous location and had dinner the next night at their new location. The food was fantastic! Chile verde, mole, you name it ... It will not disappoint. The house margarita and salsa will make sure you come back. The new location has a great patio to enjoy the evenings. Do yourself a favor and stop by La Casita....yum!

  • Linda W.

We had the Casitas Enchiladas and the combo plate with a chile relleno and a chicken tostada. Overall it was good for gringo mexican, but being from southern New Mexico it doesn't compare to places like Nellie's in Las Cruces. The enchiladas needed more sauce. The chile relleno was very tasty but the chile was not hot at all. The tortilla chips were excellent. The salsa was tasty but not hot. I would eat here again when passing through Cortez.

One of the best meals we had on our 9 day road trip! We rolled into Cortez around 9:30 on Friday night hungry after trekking thru Mesa Verde and were happy to find La Casita open. We were seated right away and walked into a great vibe on the patio. Margaritas were necessary to ease the wear and tear of the long day and their fresh margarita's hit the spot with a great balance of juice and tequila and not sweet and sour. You could taste the ingredients in the drink just as you should, not just a bunch of sugar when they use a mix which is usually the case. The chips were okay and salsa was excellent. We ordered enchiladas suiza which could not of been better and my daughters chicken quesadilla was loaded and delicious. Being from San Diego we eat at loads of mexi-restaurants and this is up there with the best.

  • Karen D.

The food was amazing.... From the homemade chips and delicious salsa, shrimp fajitas, rice and beans. Their house margarita was so refreshing and perfectly mixed. Would definitely visit again if in this area. I can see why they have such good ratings. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to travelers passing through.

Finishing off our meal right now; quesadillas and fajitas. Both excellent, as are the complimentary chips and salsa. Staff was generous with providing extra rice, cheese, etc. and prompt. Simple, great food. Go here when you are hungry.

We are on a 16 day RV trip and we were all tired of food we make ourselves (in the RV, of course), and one daughter wanted cheese dip and this little place looked like the ticket. We were there at 3:55 so we had to buy at dinner prices. So the girls split a beef nacho appetizer, my son had the chicken nachos and me and my husband split an enchilada plate. PLENTY for all. Oh, and the cheese dip -- perfection! Being from Atlanta, all I can say is I was so excited to have authentic Mexican food! Delicious! Great serving sizes, great dinner prices and the staff -- very friendly, very helpful. So glad we stopped!

Great food. Everyone enjoyed their various burritos. Excellent salsa. Service was prompt and courteous.

    (4)
  • Dave S.

Amazing! Everything was excellent. Carne asada and chicken mole enchiladas were fresh and tasty and very good. There was a line of people outside waiting to get in. You have to eat here!

    (5)
  • Nat S.

Food was really great. Servers were on it. They have tasty strong margaritas too. We had the combo with a tamale, enchilada, and a taco, and also a burrito with carnitas. I liked everything, and would go back in a second if I am in the area.

    (5)
  • Matt S.

Excellent food and margaritas. I ordered the rellano burrito. It wasn't too heavy at all. The outdoor seating on the patio is nice.

  • Dawn H.

There is absolutely not one bad thing I can say about this place. Excellent frozen margaritas? Check Excellent chips and salsa? Check Excellent chimichanga? Check Fast service? Check Drink refills in a timely manner? Check This place definitely fills the spot if you're looking for Mexican food, especially if you've worked up an appetite by trekking through Mesa Verde.

  • Charles H.

Best food and drinks near Mesa Verde. Everything is authentic and delicious. If we are ever in the area again we will certainly return. Chicken Chimi Shredded Enchilada And Two Frozen Margaritas = $27.50 Outstanding!

  • Anthony C.

By far the best Mexican food we had on our entire 5 day trip to the grand circle. We came here for lunch, I ordered the one item combo, for $5 it was a steal. I got the chile relleno, which came w/ a side of rice and beans. The chile relleno was amongst the best I've ever had. The gooey melted cheese, and sauce made it so perfect! The rice and beans were magnificent. The beans were loaded with flavor!!! Also the service was good, and the decor was nice. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area, and hungry for some great Mexican food!!!!

After checking Yelp, we decided to eat here. We were pleased with the food and service. We were immediately seated. There is outdoor and indoor seating, they gave us the option. I was so happy to see the albagondis soup on the menu. I had to order it. I was so happy when a big bowl of piping hot soup was served along with a side of fresh diced onions and cilantro. The soup was enough to share. It was full of rice, red potatoes, carrots, celery and 3 big meatballs. I wish I would've ordered a side of tortillas to complete my meal. My husband got a crisp beef taco combo meal. It was seasoned ground beef. He liked the taco and the rice and beans. I shared my meatballs with him. The chips and salsa were so yummy. The salsa was a bit on the hot side for us but oh so flavorful and delicious. The place was clean, in fact they were sweeping, wiping down walls and door frames while we were there. We even got a peak at the clean kitchen. As we ate our meal, the place got busy and they handled the rush just fine. We will eat here again when we go to Cortez.

What was once the jewel of Mexican food restaurants in Cortez is now very ordinary. I used to look forward to eating here, but no more. A lot of things have changed here since they moved. OK, so now they have outdoor seating...a plus. But, the quality of the food is way down, the tortillas lousy, and the beer list inexcusably dismal. In Colorado, there is no reason to offer only beer from the big industrial combines and an unimaginative selection of Mexican beers. Then there was the heavy chemical odor from whatever they used for cleaning, the smell of which overpowered the food. Not smart. What was good? The flan...

  • Jen J.

Absolutely delicious food! Shrimp cocktail was refreshing and yummy, full of succulent shrimp (not a tad overcooked) and large chunks of fresh avocados and veggies. I ordered a seafood fajitas, an option that I don't often see in Mexican restaurants. My dish had shrimp and fish (I think Tilapia). Again, shrimp was perfectly grilled and fish had a nice smoky flavor. Service was really friendly. I agree with multiple people below that the salsa that came with the complimentary chips was fantastic - really balanced flavors, made from fresh ingredients, and a little bit of heat. We stopped by here after a long day in Mesa Verde. The meal totally hit the spot.

  • Marianne M.

Oh yummmm! I love Mexican food and this was so fresh and authentic!! It took me forever to pick something, so instead I just impulsively ordered anything knowing it would be good and it was! It was a great place with a super friendly and attentive staff!! The food came out quick and hot! Yumm!!

Overall a good little spot in Cortez. Great salsa and chips while you ponder the menu. Quick and efficient service. Food was great; there's quite a lot of options to choose from. Kicking myself I didn't try the margarita! Nice ambience; get a seat outside if you can, but note to management to change out the lights for something with better ambience please. Definitely a good Mexican find!

I'm from Tucson, no short supply of Mexican food there. Ate at a few places in the area. By far the best Mexican food in Cortez. Do yourself a favor and try eating outside, watch the traffic & people. A little cozy inside.

Overall good food and atmosphere We are on the patio as the main area was a bit cramped We had the Casita rib eye good portion split between 2 Pollo Asada could have been a larger portion for my taste but tasted excellent! Up to our CA expectations.

We went to La Casita several times for lunch since we live locally. Tonight we tried dinner being an off night for the crowds. It is packed sometimes which generally means the food is great. We been seeing the parking lot and street parking full. But tonight we found they have both inside and outside seating in good weather. My wife ordered Camarones la Casita (Casita shrimp) and I had the Tierra y Mar (translated land and sea) which was a rib eye steak and shrimp dish. Both were excellent !!! We used to live near the Mexican border and have eaten Mexican food from at at least two dozen Mexican restaurants. La Casita de Cortez. ranks with the top two or three Mexican restaurants of all time. The flavors are different from the other Mexican restaurants. The cheese, the sauces, and the way they serve plump flavorful shrimp are worth taking the time to try it.

Stopped here over Memorial Day weekend after visiting Mesa Verde on our way to waste time and money visiting the Four Corners. The place is small and was mostly full when we stopped at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. We were fortunate not to have to wait for a table, but I imagine there typically would be one. We were first given complimentary chips and salsa while our drink orders were taken. The chips are standard, but the salsa is heads and shoulders above the typical complimentary salsa. There was actually quite a bit of heat to it. It does contain a lot of cilantro, and that stuff usually ruins dishes for me, but there was so much else going on that the cilantro didn't bother me. This was great salsa. My friend and I each ordered different enchiladas plates. Both came with rice and refried beans. The beans were not the typical type that look like they came right from a can, but rather had whole beans that did not get mashed up and were delicious. My enchiladas were fairly standard, but still quite delicious. My friend said he really enjoyed his as well. Staff was very friendly and quick to refill drinks and chips and salsa. The wait for our food was short and it came out piping hot. Typically I would have tried the margarita or beer, but after drinking far too much the night before while camping, I couldn't stomach any booze at that point. If I ever find myself making the mistake again of going to the Four Corners, I'll definitely stop in here for another meal without hesitation.

First time in Cortez and was looking for some local high quality fare, and boy did I find it!! I read some reviews and found a full parking lot upon arrival, so naturally I had to give it a try myself! I wanted to try something other than my usual Mexican dishes, and opted for the Camarones La Casita by recommendation from my inviting and lovely waitress. Glad I did because it surely did not disappoint! The shrimp was cooked to perfection and the colors and flavors complimented the dish so well. Paired nicely with my Cadillac margarita, no surprise there ;), and I topped it off with a dish of FRIED ICE CREAM. Can never go wrong there! I'll be in Cortez for a few days and I'm already thinking about what I'll have when I visit before I hit the road. Yeah, it was that good! If you have any question, I would definitely recommend stopping in! You won't be disappointed.

GREAT little Mexican place in Cortez. So good we went twice in the two days we were in town. It looks like a shack from the outside, but don't let that fool you. The margaritas are handmade (not from a margarita machine) but they are expensive. Tortillas - handmade. Mole sauce - handmade! Nothing makes me happier than homemade mole sauce. Yum. Everything we had was good. Except for the pricey 'ritas, the menu is well priced. Service is spot-on too. Very friendly and easy going.

Excellent spicy salsa, very good fajitas, good whole beans. The service was fast and friendly. Stopped on our way through town based on Yelp reviews and glad we did.

The address is inaccurate on yelp. It's at 332 e main I believe. Read the reviews on yelp and la casita did not disappoint. Food was fantastic and I rarely complain or rave about service but the service at la casita was top notch. Definitely recommend after a long day at Mesa verde.

Excellent food I hAd shrimp ceviche appetizer and chile verde both were excellent and the service was great

Good service and authentic Mexican food. I had the green chili plate which was well executed. I did wish for more heat, but hey, this is Colorado not New Mexico. I'd go back if I was in Cortez again.

The cheese, the sauces, and the way they serve plump flavorful shrimp are worth taking the time to try it.

solid food, but certainly not amazing, i can honestly say i liked del taco better first off, finding this place is tough, no major signs even though we circled for a half an hour. calling the staff doesnt help either, they gave us bizarre landmarks and i was about to give up until i spotted it. when we got there, i saw the dining area is pretty small. this place looks like a shack, in a seedy little town that is cortez. they wanted to sit us right in front of the door, i said no. they told us the wait would be a half hour, i looked at my bf and asked how bad he wanted to eat here and he said not bad so i said we'll leave. then they found us a table! ok on to the food nachos-good, but i didnt like the salsa, it had cilantro(vile weed!) and was very watery tacos- beef, good, not great, i like hard shell tacos and these were very greasy, like oil was literally running down my hand, no thanks check please! and adios cortez

One of my favorite restaurants in Cortez! The staff is awesome, the margaritas are great and the food is delicious. Try the mole enchiladas or the tacos or the menudo or ... I haven't had a bad meal yet. I try to stop by at least once a week. A well needed addition to the Cortez gastronomic experience. Oh, and it's really affordable too.

The flan...

Food was really great. Servers were on it. They have tasty strong margaritas too. We had the combo with a tamale, enchilada, and a taco, and also a burrito with carnitas. I liked everything, and would go back in a second if I am in the area.

The food was amazing.... From the homemade chips and delicious salsa, shrimp fajitas, rice and beans. Their house margarita was so refreshing and perfectly mixed.

Otra vez!

Food was really great. Servers were on it. They have tasty strong margaritas too. We had the combo with a tamale, enchilada, and a taco, and also a burrito with carnitas. I liked everything, and would go back in a second if I am in the area.

Excellent food and margaritas. I ordered the rellano burrito. It wasn't too heavy at all. The outdoor seating on the patio is nice.

Start with the salsa. A nice bite to it. I had Enchiladas Rancheras. Only got half way through it. Looks like breakfast tomorrow! Highly recommend this restaurant if you find yourself in Cortez CO!

Finishing off our meal right now; quesadillas and fajitas. Both excellent, as are the complimentary chips and salsa. Staff was generous with providing extra rice, cheese, etc. and prompt. Simple, great food. Go here when you are hungry.

Oh yummmm! I love Mexican food and this was so fresh and authentic!! It took me forever to pick something, so instead I just impulsively ordered anything knowing it would be good and it was! It was a great place with a super friendly and attentive staff!! The food came out quick and hot! Yumm!!

solid food, but certainly not amazing, i can honestly say i liked del taco better first off, finding this place is tough, no major signs even though we circled for a half an hour. calling the staff doesnt help either, they gave us bizarre landmarks and i was about to give up until i spotted it. when we got there, i saw the dining area is pretty small. this place looks like a shack, in a seedy little town that is cortez. they wanted to sit us right in front of the door, i said no. they told us the wait would be a half hour, i looked at my bf and asked how bad he wanted to eat here and he said not bad so i said we'll leave. then they found us a table! ok on to the food nachos-good, but i didnt like the salsa, it had cilantro(vile weed!) and was very watery tacos- beef, good, not great, i like hard shell tacos and these were very greasy, like oil was literally running down my hand, no thanks check please! and adios cortez

Otra vez!

  • Jeremy W.

    (5)
  • Mike T.

Really good. Best Mexican in my radius. I drove 50 miles to eat here today. Never disappoints. I could drive to telluride in 30 minutes but I'd rather drive an hour one way for this.

Wasn't expecting much from the exterior, but the interior was warm and cheerful, and full of locals. The food was absolutely excellent. The steak I ate was cooked to perfection. Wait staff and manager were good humored and like to crack a joke. They're renovating soon. Very happy about this little place!

  • Alyssa R.

Hands down, the best Mexican food that I've ever had. The salsa is spicy and flavorful. I had the chile rellenos burrito and it was spectacular. The service is great and the food is amazing. Do not miss this restaurant!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
