When I order a margarita, I anticipate sweet and sour goodness that makes my tongue tingle. So when I ordered Oscar's $3.75 margarita, I was buzzing with pre-tequilia excitement, and was greatly let down when I got a crappy, watery, lack of flavor sorry excuse for a margarita. With a margarita this terrible, the idea of eating the food at Oscar's stared to scare me. Thank the gods, however, there was no need to fear. The chicken enchiladas with green chile' were amazing. The green chile' was spicy, the chicken was tender - the dish was just damn good overall. That margarita should have been shot and put out of it's misery, but the food is terrific. Order a beer for $3.75 and commit the sin of gluttony. It's worth the punishment Hail Marys.

Everything on the buffet was cold. Cold and greasy are not good things for Mexican food. Service was slow. And the restaurant seemed dirty. Don't waste your time or money. There is MUCH better Mexican food in the San Luis Valley. Disappointing!

The food was kind of good but the place was really dirty and the service was slow. The waitress was cranky and clearly overworked.

Good food, in a town where there are many choices for Mexican; perhaps a tiny cut above Nino's, which is walking distance away. I had an enchilada platter; impressed by the HOT and authentic green chile. Service was fine, prices competitive with other places in town. It's a huge restaurant and I wonder if it's ever full; on a Friday evening, with a dozen tables being served, it still seemed empty. I'll definitely go back.

Mediocre is an overstatement.cannot believe that it received the same number of stars as Calvillo's. Oscars is not even comparable in terms of atmosphere, service, and food. Food was blah. Service was slow and inaccurate. No atmosphere to speak of.

We went here after rails and ales after a recommendation from a local. It was amazing! Delicious food, very large portions and reasonably priced! The service was great, everyone was very friendly and accommodating for our large group. The buffet is the best deal, lots of options. Definitely plan on stopping by the next time we are in town.

My husband and I were traveling threw to Denver and stopped off at Oscars for a bite. Our food came out fast and was delicious. Garrett was our server and took very good care of us. The Sopapilla Surprise was the bomb

Living in Paramount, CA where Mexican restaurants are all over the place, I think I know how a good or decent Mexican food should taste. I stopped by this restaurant to get something to eat after a long drive from Cortez, Co. I ordered a mojado carne asada burrito. The burrito was served with a ground meat and it was salty. The meal was ghastly.

The four of us stopped here on the evening of our train ride from Alamosa to La Veta the next morning. The place was basically empty. We were seated and after several minutes, without any kind of acknowledgement, water was dropped at our table. That was the last we had seen anyone. We waited probably 15 to 20 minutes for someone to greet us and take our orders. In the mean time other customers walked in and were quickly served water and chips with orders taken. Then there was the annoying person sweeping the floor and banging chairs into tables etc. We walked out and went to Ninos. With service that bad one could only imagine what the food would be like. Thanks Oscars for sending us to Ninos the best Mexican restaurant in Alamosa. We had the best service and excellent food there.

Mexican food in Alamosa is plentiful. We went here as a group when last in Alamosa. The service was pretty slow, it seemed like they needed more wait staff or for someone else to be at the hostess/checkout area to help with the influx of people and the people trying to pay to leave. Honestly, I have had better in Alamosa as far as Mexican food goes as well as far as service goes. However, the food came warm and hot, and was accurate. If I had a group of people that were insistent to eat here, I would return, otherwise I would stick with the other gems I have found.

Love the atmosphere, and the food is even better. My favorite is the #2 combo with red chile. The service is good. They are courteous and prompt. Prices are very reasonable.

Very good eats. I got the combo platter (cheese enchilada, bean burrito, and relleno). The relleno was surprisingly unique - it was stuffed with cheese, fried, and wrapped in a tortilla. The chips and salsa were also good. 5 stars for the service as well; we arrived about 10 minutes before closing but they still accommodated us and didn't act put out.

Their green chili is very good and just mildly spicy. I got the "combo 3" and the enchiladas were wonderful but there was some sort of vegetable in the chalupa that I didn't like very much. My wife got the rellenos and she liked them as well. They were different since they were fried and wrapped in tortillas but quite good. Again, the green chili is what made it all for us but their red chili is good too (it came with the chips). Both could use a bit more spice though.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
