Not bad. Not bad at all. Fish and chips were solid. The fries were fantastic and the fish was pretty damn decent. Got the apple wood smoked flavored fires. You honestly can't tell. But the fish was great. Two pieces of cod. Solid dish. The fries are large cut so you get a decent amount but not a lot. IF they did smaller cut fries it'd be perfect. The place is almost literally a hole in the wall. Just a simple window booth where you order your food and it comes out to you in like 10 min maybe. The most promisingly place to eat along the beach everything else looked weak. Overall decent place to try out.

Amazing fries! Perfectly cooked. Crispy on the outside. Tender and sweet on the inside. Great selection of special seasoned salts and dipping sauces. I love their fries with applewood smoked salt and plain mayo for dipping. Each order is made-to-order. So it takes a bit of time for one order, but so amazingly good it is worth it.

Best fish and chips in Venice hands down! Incredible staff, clean environment... my kind of place.

  • Steve W.

The fish and fries are pretty good, but be warned...if you get any regular condiments with them...tartar sauce, ranch dressing etc...it will be a little plastic packet of generic mass produced sauce. Personally, I think they should not charge extra for decent sauce...$12 for a couple thin pieces of fish and fries...should include sauce. Would be cool if wrapped in actual newspapers, rather than plasticized fake version.

This place is like secret secret hidden. If it wasn't for the sign on the street, I would have never noticed it. Instantly drawn to the sign that says "award winning fish and chips" and a solid long line. Walking through Venice and in need of a snack, you love some French fries or fish, you need to stop here. I was beyond happy to find this place. Truffle garlic fries...truffle garlic fries...truffle garlic fries I don't think I can say it again. If the three times doesn't get my point across..TRUFFLE GARLIC FRIES. They blew my mind away. The fresh cut, the thick cut, perfectly crisp, and the seasoning put it over the top. And these are just French fries blew me away. With the addition of the garlic mayo and chipotle ketchup sauces made it that much better. And that's not all, they have over 5 different sauces and over 10 seasonings you can add to the fries. I'm sure they are all delicious. I was more than happy with the selection. Now I wish I could have tried the fish I regret not getting the full meal, but now I won't forget to try it the next time I'm in Venice. I would come back just for the fries, but I have to try the fish. You won't be disappointed. Those are prefect snack food walking along the beach especially if it's cooler weather. You'll see me again and now I know where it is so its not so hidden

Best fries ever.Alone, worth the trip through the traffic and crowds at Venice Beach. If you haven't tried it yet, make sure to hit up The Wee Chippy for tummy flavorful handcut fries.

Probably the best Fish & Chips I've had in 10 years. The hand cut fries are superb and the fish is soft with a batter that stays crispy and doesn't get soggy. If you are to have a cheat meal......this is the place.

I read the reviews of The Wee Chippy on Yelp - it sounded fantastic! Mostly 5 stars and now I know why....it almost seemed made up...BUT NO JOKE! This was the most incredible fish 'n chips I've eaten in my life, & the thick fresh hand cut fries - made on the spot.....SUPER YUM!!! Once you start eating those babies you will crave them and never find any as good! They are perfection! After agonizing over what flavor salt to choose from, they have a list of their own in-house made salts and sauces....(YES...they flavor them & make them to order), we choose the jalapeno with fresh tangy lime salt on our fries. The fish was so fresh, mild, crispy and cooked to perfection. Wowza....Everything in this tiny little shop is freshly made and scrumptious!!! Unbelievable! You will never think of fish 'n chips the same way again. BTW...the in-house chipotle sauce...they need to bottle it! You get two condiments with your order...we had to get extra as there were too many yummy choices! All were BIG YUM! We sat on the bench outside watching the sunset, listened to some guy playing amazing guitar...for a moment we were both lost in paradise! I rarely write reviews, but I am a 'foodie' for sure... the food and experience was so over the top DELISH I had to share! This was my #1 best fish 'n chips experience ever....I would say they are the best in California!! (maybe the world) I will be back, again and again!!!! Thanks Wee Chippy for that! Your service, food, and attention to detail is perfection!!! YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 pieces of freshly fried Cod and Chips with a splash of malt vinegar and some Truffle Oil. Simply the best Fish & Chips I've ever eaten during my 21 years in the USA. This is a wonderful flavour combination with Fish crisply battered and so juicy inside... and the service from this tiny hole in the wall is outstanding.

good or bad-- I never write reviews, but I just had the most exceptional customer service experience here. I ordered the fish and chips and when I went to pay w/a card I realized there was no tip line (I used to work in the service industry so I always like to tip) and the polite guy behind the counter told me, "no need to tip, just enjoy your food." and he said it and meant it. not common. then he told me one piece of fish broke in the fryer-- I told him just give it to me, I will eat it regardless and he insisted, "no we strive for excellence here." so he cooked another piece of fish and bagged it for me while I ate the first one he cooked. SNAPS wee chippy-- thank you for remembering the importance of customer service. NOT TO MENTION the fish was bomb AF and I am a fish and chips connoisseur; so good. would recco to anyone.

Some of the best frys I've ever had! Had the jalapeño salt and chipotle ketchup, what a combo. Seriously friendly staff and great location. Although I couldn't find the hours online, their Winter hours are fri-sun 12-5, FYI. Thanks Chippy and see you soon.

The presentation was excellent but that was the only good thing about this meal. I ordered the fish and chips. My biggest complaint being the fish the batter slipped off the fish when I broke into it the fish was full of uncooked batter just nasty I took it back to the counter the girl there was really nice about it but my replacement was the same. My fries were soaked in grease and no crisp crunch. Overall I don't think I would go back.

Wee Chippy is hands-down the best chip shop in North America! Run by the most affable, Scottish bloke, Wee Chippy does not disappoint! The chips are cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside, warm and fluffy on the inside. The biggest dilemma here is deciding among the myriad of toppings and dips, and which to pair. We tried the Applewood Smoked and Italian Black Truffle. My personal fave was the Black Truffle...mouth savoring and a bit crispier on the outside than the Applewood. I paired these delightful creations with the Chipotle Ketchup, Homemade Truffle Mayo and the Creamy Ranch -- not all at the same time! My favorite pairing was the Italian Black Truffle with the Creamy Ranch or Homemade Truffle Mayo. I can only imagine what these tasty treats would taste like accompanied with a nice, hearty ale! My only complaint is that the guitar-toting busker's amp was a bit loud which made ordering slightly challenging. His music was good, but perhaps he could turn it down a notch or two. Don't make a trip to the Boardwalk without a visit to The Wee Chippy! You won't be disappointed. Look forward to a fiesta in your mouth! Tip: It's a little hard to find. Technically it's located on Ocean Front, but it's really on Westminster across from Zelda's Corner Deli. Oh....and rumor has it that they will be introducing Fish & Chips come February 2014! I can't wait!!

I seriously cannot stop thinking about this precious hole in the wall! It's my latest food discovery in Venice beach. I love love love their mouth-watering hand cut fries! I ordered the $4 small box of Fire roasted garlic salt fries. It took awhile because they cook the fries right when I ordered them. I literally "omg" aloud at the fresh and warm taste of the fries! Fresh cut garlics lingered on the fries. So good! I dipped them with the chipotle ketchup. Even better! I was so obsessed with the fries that I wanted to get another order. But my diet wouldn't allow it. I would definitely drive all the way to Venice beach just to taste these fries again.

  • Yuri C.

The regular fries I got was so good! It was fried fresh so it was still nice and hot. The size of the fries were nice and big, so it was crunchy on the outside and nice and potatoe-y on the inside. The portion of the regular size was big. we shared and we were both so full!! The salt flavor I got was rosemary and that was really nice. It really was a hint of rosemary, so it went well when I dipped my fries into their yummy mayo. Can't believe how good the fries were, and also the service was great! Hi-5 :)

Had a chance to go back last week after work, the chips were just as good as I remember! They started serving fried fish now too which I tried of course, I didnt have it with any of the flavored salts just plain and I thought it was delicious!

  • Maria T.

This was a great little hole in the wall with delicious food. The fish and chips were amazing! This is a walk-up window, and they have one picnic table for seating, so this is the perfect place to get some fish and chips and walk a few feet down to the beach, find a bench, and enjoy a delicious snack or lunch. We were lucky to be able to share the lone picnic table with a family who were visiting from Italy. They told us they came back several times during their week-long vacation because they loved the food! After trying it ourselves, we were in complete agreement! The fish was perfectly battered and not too greasy, the fries were great, and the selection of sauces was fantastic. I loved the chipotle ketchup - yum. This is a great little find.

Pleasantly surprised to find such an awesome eatery hidden in Venice Beach. As I was walking by I saw the words "truffle salt" and my mouth started to water just thinking about the earthy aroma and crispy fries. I ordered the fish and chips basket with truffle salt and smoked salt. I was pleased to see that they had a variety of gourmet salts you can choose from and also dipping sauces. The chips were cooked perfectly in my books! The outside was lightly crisp and the inside of the chips were soft and creamy in the middle. I chose truffle and smoked salt for my seasoning and it was sooooo bomb! I also enjoyed the mild taste of the fish and the flaky and crispy batter. To make it even better their tarter sauce was a perfect match with the fried fish. This place is a gem!

Wow. I haven't had fish and chips this good since my last visit to the UK a few years back. I've been to the boardwalk tons of times but never knew about this place. Luckily, my friend had it bookmarked and we decided to give it a shot. For $12, you get two big portions of perfectly fried fish, so perfectly flaky and crispy that you don't need any of the unique dipping sauces they have to offer. For fries, I tried both the rosemary and truffle fries. While both were exquisite in terms of flavor, the rosemary fries went above and beyond, taking my taste buds on a heavenly ride. Although there is no attached seating area (besides, you know, the whole beach), the friendly staff and mouth-watering food has made a loyal customer out of me.

This is all about the GARLIC FRIES and nothing else matters. I really enjoyed this hidden gem that is located in one of the side streets along the Venice beach boardwalk. They have a small sign and they are next door to a sandwich shop and pizza place that had a lot of people grabbing a $2 slice. So we went with a large order of the garlic fries with a side of creamy ranch and chipotle ketchup. After we waited about 5 minutes for them to make us a fresh batch we were amazed at the portion size. We found out to not bite into them right away because they are scorching hot. I thought the creamy ranch was good but it didn't elevate the fries like the chipotle ketchup which was amazing. The chipotle ketchup was flavorful with a hint of spice and the garlic on the fries gave it a Latin flare to the combined flavors. They do have one picnic bench there but you have the whole boardwalk to find a place to sit so that is no big deal. Public restrooms here usually have a huge line because they are for the beachgoers so don't hold it. I personally like the crowds and the craziness but if you're not into it just stop and go. You can actually drive right up to this place without parking as long as someone keeps the motor running. Great spot and definitely a must go back and tell a friend kind of place.

As my first review of 2015, I had to choose The Wee Chippy! This place is THA BOMB! Hands down, these are the best fries I've ever had. It comes out piping hot and there is no other way to describe it... it's simply the best. I tried the "Jalapeno and Lime" combo with a side of ketchup - I so wish I could be here every day! I love that it's in this alley way on Venice Beach where it seems like a secret - because I wouldn't want anyone else in my way when I go get these. I want to be in the front of the line every time. I know, I'm so selfish. ;) I can't wait to be back! I miss you, The Wee Chippy!

  • Kristofer D.

Thank you Chippy!!! I had biked to Venice Beach from San Gabriel to catch a sunset, some crazies on the Boardwalk, and find something amazing to eat. I found this little gem just as took their last order. After a short talk with the purveyors, they allowed me a last meal!!! There is a smorgasbord of sauces and seasonings to top your fries. The fish crumbles to the touch. It is moist and crispy. Delicious does not do this fish justice. This is a SMALL place, so you have to keep your eyes peeled for the awesome pie-sill door and the bench of awesomeness. I wish I could say more about this spot! Great menu, simple pricing ($12 for a regular FnC order) and friendly staff! EAT EAT EAT HERE.

I stumbled across this place randomly one day. I almost got pizza from the place next door because that's usually all I trust from the beach. But omg this place has great fish and chips. If you can find this place you have to try it!! Guys are always nice too. And they cut the fries right in front of you,it's pretty awesome.

Great little fish and chips place hidden on a side street off the Venice boardwalk. I haven't eaten fish and chips in quite some time but my wife and I absolutely loved this place. The food took a little long but it was definitely worth the wait.

This place is literally the definition of "hole-in-the-wall." Definitely easy to miss! It's located in a little alley in Venice. Had to use navigation while riding my bike rental and still missed it! SO WORTH THE HUNT! Best fried fish I've had when it comes to "fish and chips!" Golden brown and crispy on the outside, while still juicy and tender on the inside! There is large variety of sauces offered as well as seasoning for their chips (fries)! I went with truffle mayo and smoked applewood seasoning! Amazing! Definitely recommend trying both! Keep it simple and order the "fish and chips!" You'll love it!

  • Megan L.

Fantastic spot for fish and chips. Picked several of the sauces that were recommended on yelp with our orders, however they weren't even necessary! The fish and fries are good on their own. When it comes to the fries, we tried the rosemary and the truffle fries. While both were delicious, the rosemary fries were on point! Must try!! I'm going back again!

The day before Thanksgiving and it's 84 degrees in LA, so my husband and I spend the day at Venice Beach. Looking for a snack at 4:30pm, we notice a little hole-in-the-wall called The Wee Chippy. It looks British and cute. Debating whether we should get some fries, a couple of obviously stoned dudes sitting on the bench outside the walk-up window offer their unsolicited opinion: "These are the BEST fries in the world. Get 'em." (Ah yes, ten minutes ago, it was 4:20.) We order the chips with spicy curry salt and the black truffle mayo. HOLY CRAP, the stoners are right... These fries are AMAZING! Crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and the curry salt gives them a kick without being overpowering. Truffle mayo is the perfect accompaniment. We sit on the bench after the stoners take off, and eat our delicious fries as we watch the sun set over the beach. One of my most favorite moments in the 15-plus years I've lived in LA. Thank you, Wee Chippy, for being a part of it.

The fries are so yummy! You can pick from tons of different salts to add and they have truffle fries as well. A regular size can be shared but you'll want it all for yourself! Well priced and totally worth it.

  • Kelly W.

WOW some of the best fries I've had in a while. I got a normal size for myself and it is plenty. The fries are huge and thick, not like the peewee fast food ones you usually see. Truffle fries are great, especially with parmesan and garlic toppings. I got the chipotle mayo and chipotle ketchup and they're both delicious, though I prefer the mayo. Fish is pretty good. Comes with tartar sauce. I think my favorite part is the packaging. If you get the fish and chips combo ($12) your food comes in a takeout box on a bed of old/fake newspaper. The store name is stamped on the top of the box too. Super cute! Fries are $4 - $7 depending on size and if you get regular/truffle. Extra toppings and condiments are 50 cents or $1. Will definitely come back!

My cousin found this literal hole in the wall fries stand. At first I was a little hesitate seeing as how it was in fact- a hole in the wall. But never judge a book by its cover. The fries there are probably the best I have ever had. I usually need some sort of condiment to add to my fries but I was more than content with eating them alone. I got the the Italian truffle fries and they were AMAZING. The chipotle sauce was also very good, had a nice kick to it. Along with picking sauces you can also pick the type of salt to add on it too. Great snack food to eat while enjoying a great day at the beach.

I ordered the 2 piece fish and chips for my kids. The fish was super fresh and cooked to order. My kids LOVED it (they're 2 and 4 so we're talking seriously picky eaters). Each piece of fish is HUGE so they couldn't even finish their respective pieces of fish. My husband is not into seafood but it looked so good he asked to try and he agreed, it was among the best fried fish we have ever tried. The garlic fries are also amazing. Would definitely go back and HIGHLY recommend. Oh yeah, it's a little expensive but I think the quality justifies the price point.

Best place to eat on Venice Boardwalk! Just a tiny little window in a tiny little alley but the flavor is big! The fish is perfect and the black truffle fries are to die for. It's a really simple concept, but they give you lots of choices when it comes to flavoring your fries and sauces. I used to avoid Venice but now I'm making excuses to go down there! Good job Wee Chippy.

I didn't know fish and chips could be this delicious. I was drawn in by the sight of fresh cut french fries. The fish was lightly battered, perfectly cooked, and served fresh after a perfect 8 minute time quote. Staff was friendly and awesome, and seemed very happy to be there. I would recommend going out of your way to eat here.

Arrived at The Wee Chippy 5 minutes late this past Wednesday. It was my first visit and I as disappointed because I really had my taste buds ready for fish n chips. I waited until the next day and my partner and I walked down to Venice from our Santa Monica apartment and got there well before closing. We both ordered Fish 'n Chips and got our fries seasoned 2 different ways so we could try a couple flavors out. Everything was delicious. The fish was fresh and the batter was light and crispy and not greasy. Very nice. Some of the best fish 'n chips I've had. We met the owner Joe. He's a nice guy who helped us with our order. We'll be back soon.

This ugly strip mall is becoming a magnet for cheap, good snacks. I love the Peruvian place next door to the Wee Chippy. By far some of the best fries in L.A. Simple, thick fries with a creative assortment of salts and sauces that will satisfy any savory craving. If you are craving fries, these are the epitome of what you are dreaming of. The space is a little less than minimal, but the subway tile adds some charm to their frying box, even though you'll end up eating the fries curbside or overlooking the crackheads on the boardwalk. 100% worth it.

I'm a bit late on my review, but here she goes... It was a few months ago. I was walking some friends down the boardwalk who had never been to Venice Beach. When we all got hungry, everyone went to the well-known little-bit-of-everything burger bar that I'd visited one time too many. I decided I'd try my new discovery: The Wee Chippy. I never thought I'd be dining at my new favorite place in Venice! I've had fish n chips at pubs in nearly every country in North America and the Caribbean and had many great gastronomical memories, but NOTHING topped the Chippy! A plate of perfectly-fried fish and excellently seasoned fries were mated with a perfectly-balanced tartar sauce and their truffle mayo. For about $12 (Very reasonable considering the high rent that comes with an oceanfront location.) I was in fat boy heaven! And the homemade rootbeer? Insatiable!! If you're reading this review, the Wee Chippy has at least caught your attention. All I can say is DIVE ON IN!!! I enjoyed some friendly banter with the staff, ate my meal on the bench in front of the window, and nearly melted in ecstasy. I'm not exaggerating here. Even if you're not into fish, the fries are more than worth it. Cheers!

This little shop serves tasty, crispy fish with handcut chips (fries) that you can flavor from a list of varied flavored salts. Like everything on the beach, not cheap, but a better bargain because the food is really good. The little passage where this shop is located is a good place for a group to choose since there are several shops with a variety of ethnic food choices.

Ireland is my favorite place, mostly due to the chippy's strewn all across the country famous for serving fish and chips in the daily newspaper with a side of curry to compliment. (and guinness if you're lucky). In Los Angeles you must settle for mediocre Fish & Chips, but not if you live (or visit) Venice Beach thanks to The Wee Chippy. When I first became a patron of The Wee Chippy, they only had chips (fries). with dozens of combinations of salts and sauces. I fell in love with them then and there. These are no ordinary fries. Fresh cut, fried to order and packaged in a take out box that is perfect to carry up and down the boardwalk. The day I walked up and they added Fish to the mix, I died. Not literally, but when I took that first bite into their perfectly fried fish it was the closest thing to heaven I can imagine. Most fried fish is mediocre due to the inconsistent or over-powering batter. Not here. Spritzed with Lemon and a dash of salt and pepper, this batter is beyond excellence. Not to mention real deal Malt Vinegar to go along. As far as yelp goes, this place deserves more than 5 stars! I visit all the time and when I'm in a hurry I simply order over the phone and pick it up 10 minutes later. ------ Had to edit this review to add some last thing. GET THE TRUFFLE MAYO... LIKE LOTS OF IT!!

So the wife and I decided to ditch work on a hot summer Friday to visit our favorite ghetto, tourist fabulous world famous Venice Beach to do a little people watching and have a few alcoholic beverages. Always a good time @ Venice or Abbott Kinney. Pulled up good 'ol reliable Yelp to find something to snack on, ran across reviews for The Wee Chippy, walked up to the window, ordered a box of jalapeño fries with a side of chipotle ketchup and classic mayo. Wow! Simply mouth watering! Nice and warm, crisp yet soft and seasoned to perfection. I know now how Kanye felt when he had Kim on his cross-hairs. Go definitely try the fish n chips on next visit. Try it people, you'll thank me later. Support your non corporate establishments :)

Awesome! Great prices and portion sizes. They have separate fryers for the fish and the fries so this is a great vegan option on the boardwalk. They have nutritional yeast as a topping! Yes!

I walked by down an ally looking place and saw this fish and chips. I love French fries and when I tried these they were a dream. I have never had any like this. They are almost indescribable. Soft and crunchy and well seasoned. They specialize with only fish and chips maybe that is there secret to making the perfect fries! O.O

I never envisioned myself going to a place for the sole purpose of ordering fries, but that is exactly what I did on my trip to the Wee Chippy. The reason being that's all this place serves! If you only make one thing it better be damn good, and the fries at the Wee Chippy are exactly that. Fresh cut and served in a Chinese takeout box, these fries are delicious. I got mine topped with parmesan cheese and had some chipotle ketchup to dip them in, but I'm not sure these little beauties needed anything. Perfect afternoon snack.

Good chips. If you are a fan of classic fish and chips served in newspaper, you will like them. Not too greasy and taste fresh. I didn't like the chipotle ketchup. It was zesty bbq sauce, not ketchup.

  • Jami K.

Best fish and chips I have ever had!! The fries are also amazing... Large hand cut with the option to season them 15 different ways. The fish, perfectly done cod. Best food on the boardwalk for sure !! Easy to miss since it's just a door front, but look for the blue door between the Indian food and slice of pizza.

  • Allana A.

I love this place! I had such a great first experience and know I will frequently be coming back. The staff & owner were super friendly and take a lot of pride in their food and their rockin homemade sodas! Who does that anymore?!?! The fries are homemade, thick, salty & cooked to perfection & the fish was fresh, flaky and not overly breaded (I hate that!). They also make their own blend of seasoned salts & dips, so there is a variety of flavor to their perfectly simple menu. I can't wait to go back!

If you like fish & chips, especially English style, this is simply the best, freshest, fish around, and surprisingly gourmet accents make the incredibly delicious fries (from fresh potato to crispy crunch, topped with all manner of subtly brilliant toppings, within the time it takes to submit your order & receiving it mere minutes later) a revelation! As an added bonus, the human beings who work there are as nice as the food.

Yum, I'm a huge fan of fries and I like mine crisp on the outside but still soft on the inside. The Wee Chippy has perfected how to properly fry a potato just to my liking! It's a small shack, literally a hole in the wall, and walking down Venice will make you wonder how you will ever find this place, but no worries, it's noticeable with their fries painting on the wall and wooden door. When you walk up, you get a whiff of their kitchen and it smells heavenly. You know they're cooking up some gourmet fries by the smell. Three of us split a large California Rosemary with their Homemade Black Truffle Mayo. When we ordered, the person who took our order told us we knew what we were talking about; that made me very excited to sink my teeth into these babies! They fry each order fresh so there's a bit of a wait, but it's no problem at all. There's a lot to see around the Venice area and Winnie B. got a mango lassi next door to cool ourselves down. We were warned of how hot the fries were and asked if we would like an additional topping free of charge. We opted not, but after reading the Yelp reviews, I wish I had tried the Chipotle Ketchup! Ahh, next time. Still, we enjoyed the rosemary hint and the black truffle mayo was delish--you only needed to dip your fries with a little of it, but it was enough to take the fry to the next level. Yes, I'm a fan.

I was happy to stumble across this little gem on the boardwalk. I got their fish and chips which I thought were pretty, though they really paled in comparison to the fish and chips that I had when I was in the UK. You can definitely tell their fries are fresh and hand cut. I didn't really think their fancy garlic salt was very impressive, but the potions they give you are generous and I enjoyed the fish.

Seriously, this place is incroyable. Fresh, crispy, cooked to order with flavored salts like Applewood smoked, black truffle, and wild jalapeño with dippers like chipotle ketchup, truffle mayo (I love my truffle), and ranch, to name just a few. The walk-up window keeps things simple, and you get a pretty good amount for what you pay. Honestly, you guys. Best fish and chips anywhere.

Wee Chippy had me worried for a bit. I guess the owner went on vacation and left someone else in charge. When he left, the chips were greasy and tasted like the oil hadn't been changed. The mayo tasted pretty stale and the ketchup didn't have the usual kick. I'm so glad that on my last trip there, he was back! I was worried that he had maybe sold the place to someone who was not as competent as he was relating to those delicious chips. Long story short, my younger brother goes crazy for this place. He has tried every kind of chip and is moving his way through the sauces. We especially like the original chips with the truffle mayo ... mmmm, tasty! They're a good addition to your dinner if you're making burgers that night.

Kinda expensive for marginal, soggy french fries with warm sauce. Won't be back.

Decided to try this place based on Yelp reviews. The fries here are delicious! So many options to choose from.

You come to a strip of authentic food and there is the wee chippy. Being from new york i know what good food is and i was not Disappointed. You know they are fresh fries when you see the potatoes and all the salts are in their own mixing bowl for no contamination. The unique flavors and the great textured fries is what makes it a go to snack. The only thing would be is the salts giving more of a flavor. The applewood smoke didn't give that much to the fries so maybe add more or make it stronger

Wow! This was such a wonderful surprise in Venice beach. These chips are some of the best I've ever had. I am obsessed with nutritional yeast and I would have never thought to put on fries. The two guys behind this cute little door were such a treat to talk to. They are passionate about what they do and that shows in the flavors. Don't forget about my spike boys!!! ;)))) I'll defiantly be back!

best fries ever. got black truffle salt with california rosemary. black truffle salt was not particularly noticeable, the rosemary was fantastic. the homemade black truffle mayo was DELCIOUS... i just ate the mayo at one point by itself (normally a very gross thing i would not do and i didn't feel great about it but it was so delicious i couldn't help it!) perfectly fried - not too oily, not over-fried. very large portion! i think it was the owner that complimented me on my combination and said he had never thought to try it and would have to. SO GOOD! definitely a must if you're in venice strolling by the beach! or want a hearty snack by the ocean! perfect with the ocean mist and the waves lapping at your toes.

Being from Edinburgh, appreciate a good chip. Well done Wee Chippy! Was telling my family that I'd found good chips out here and said you were from Glasgow so no broon sauce, but malt vinegar. Said I had the black truffle mayo and they said "he's no a weegie, he's obviously from St Andrews!" Thanks for a wee bit of home, fabulous fries.

Wee Chippy never let's me down. Fries are made to order and come crispy and hot with a nice mush on the inside. I've tried their garlic fries with ranch and the regular is adequate to share among two. This is a one-of-a-kind place on the Venice boardwalk unlike the multiple pizza joints. If you're looking for something different and are a fan of fries you need to visit these guys!

Can I say "best fries" as well? The only thing I can add is that the garlic salt and Parmesan was a very good combo. Really don't miss out.

Stopped by the food court and discovered this gem on the Venice Broadwalk. The debonair Scottish charmer/chef doesn't cook your order until you place it. The fries are served piping hot; crispy/crunchy on the outside, mushy on the inside...just how I like them! I would highly recommend the applewood smoked fries...salivating just thinking about them as I write this. The dips are the perfect accompaniment, a nice balance and a culinary treat for your taste buds. The service is prompt, considering your fries are made while you wait, but don't worry - the proprietor, Joe, is such a chatty fellow; he will regale you with tales of his travels and observations that your fries will be ready before you know it. Will definitely be coming back for more. Fresh ingredients, friendly staff and amazingly good food - I'd be a fool not to.

Only one star because the guys running this place are absolutely terrible for customer service, on top of the food being barely mediocre $12 for 2 overly fried pieces of cod & some sub par fries. I was accused of being "rude" by the older man with an English accent & then when I approached the order window after tasting a piece of fish with my friend a young man was incredibly accusational towards me about having an attitude he spoke to me in a degrading tone of voice acting as if I didn't know what I had ordered. I was calm & reassured the young inbred that I knew in fact what I had ordered & that it was so dissatisfying in flavor that I wanted a refund. Need less to say the wanker wouldn't even apologize nor did I recieve a refund I won't ever go back there & if you read this review please trust me when I suggest that you don't waste your money supporting rude poor quality business' such as this one. Way to go wee chippy! You sure outdid yourselves & props to the greasy cook who doesn't speak, show knew I wasn't rude. Screw this place

Great fries! Large cut fries, dark brown and crisp on the outside, but light and fluffy on the inside. I had the Bangkok ginger salt on mine and was very tasty. My fries were nice and hot (temp) the way fries should be served. The two owners were there working, and explained that they make the fries only as it is ordered, so they are always hot and crisp. Great job guys. If you are on the Venice Boardwalk and craving fries, try 'em out.

The Wee Chippy has great fries, One of my favorite spots at Venice Beach. I think about them when I'm having a craving for FRIES. The problem is always deciding what type of sides I will choose. My favorite is the Garlic Fries with Chipotle Ketchup, you will not be disappointed.

Well cut, nicely fried, and tasty sauces and salts served by friendly staff. Too bad it was all overshadowed by oil that tasted way too old and overused. Try changing your frying oil sometime, guys! My tummy took days to recover after eating. Doubt I'll ever go back. Too bad -- there was potential here.

Great spot on the Venice boardwalk down an alley like spot. Awesome fries, toppings and dips.

What a find! The chips are amazing, the dips homemade and Devine! The chipotle ketchup packs a surprising little punch, which I really loved. More than anything, the owners are incredibly friendly and obviously love what they do. A day at the beach in Venice is always great fun, but definitely TRY these fries!!

This place is fairly new and its so worth it. If you like fries you'll love the options for toppings and dips. I had garlic and toasted onion with organic ketchup. I did try the chipotle ketchup as well and that has a nice flavor with a little kick. Next time I'm going for the truffle mayo dip. If I were to have a complaint it would be the fries are short and not long. It's a Scottish thing I guess, but once I was half way through it I realized I wouldn't have as many fries if they were long. A regular is a nice amount of fries. Fresh cut fries done right at The Wee Chippy.

I would never have known about The Wee Chippy, let alone have tried it if I did know, if I had not met one of the restaurant's partners one evening at a bar on Main Street in Santa Monica. My friend and I met Seven and during the course of our conversation she told us about her restaurant venture on the boardwalk in Venice. I made my way over a few days later to try out The Wee Chippy. Now, I don't know a better word for their fries, but they are not simply fries. The Wee Chippy have elevated the fry to such a level that all other fries pale in comparison. They are beautiful fried potato perfection and come in an assortment of flavors. I opted for the Pacific Ocean Kosher to get a feel for the basic flavor of the fry. I also tried 2 dipping sauces, the truffle mayo and the chipotle ketchup. Both sauces were excellent on their own. At Seven's suggestion, dipping a fry into both turned out to be a very good way to go. A word of caution. When you get the fries they are very hot! Let them cool for a few minutes first. The make 'em fresh per order. When I could taste them safely, I would describe the fry's texture as almost cake like on the inside. They could have been a bit more crispy on the outside on my order, but I think my batch was just a tad off. A non-issue for me, just an observation. The fries were unlike any french fry I have ever had before. I bought the the smallest order of fries (regular) and it was more than enough for me. It was brimming over the top of the container that also doubles as a to-go box which is nice. I ate enough of the thick, mostly long fries so I could close the box. About 20 minutes later I arrived at a small gathering of friends and offered the rest of the fries to anyone interested. All who tried them said either that they were very good or that they were the best fries they'd ever had before. The general consensus was that they were awesome. That being said, the fries travel well. Some of my friends were blown away at how good the fries were and wanted to know where the place was because they would be going very soon themselves. And, if you don't trust me and others as to how good the fries are here, take the LA Weekly's word for it. The Wee Chippy made it into the Best Of issue for the best Venice Beach snack shack. laweekly.com/bestof/2013… If you're enjoying life and not watching your carb intake this is the spot to go have the most impeccable french fries you'll ever have.

I'm very conflicted because I hate fat fries even when they're this good. If you like fat fries, the mush in the inside kind, you will love this place because they do it really well. And the truffle mayo is worth more than the extra 50 cents. Get 3 of them. Seriously. But I really really really wish they had thin fries. Or thin*ner* fries. That would be amazing. Then I would go back.

I try not to have french fry cravings but, if you are going to fall off the low carb wagon, this is the gourmet fry place to do it! I had the black truffle salted fries with parmesan cheese. Whoa! Yum! I tried my friend's fries with curry salt and another with garlic salt and parmesan. You can't go wrong here. I loved the chipotle and then their organic ketchups. Very nice guys behind the counter.

Impressive! Hole in the wall with delicious fresh cut fries with choices of seasonings and dipping sauces. We had the applewood smoked bacon salt and ranch and homemade ketchup. Yummy and easy to carry on the beach.

Anyone who really knows me knows that potatoes are my favorite food. Fry them up and I'll be your best friend forever. Perfectly cooked made to order fries with specialty seasoned salts and dips? Yes. The only thing keeping me from coming here everyday is the trek to Venice/finding parking but you can't blame The Wee Chippy for that.

Really delicious chips, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They fry to order so they are fresh when you get them. I had the chipotle ketchup and the truffle mayo as my sauces. My partner doesn't like chipotle but he scarfed this ketchup I barely got any. The garlic on the fries was delicious as well. These guys definitely deserve their reputation.

THE BEST FRIES EVER! I live in Los Feliz, but I've been back to Venice two weekends in a row to have more Wee Chippy fries. I crave them during the week. My favorite salts so far are Spicy Curry, Fire-Roasted Garlic with Parmesan and Black Truffle and i LOVE chipotle ketchup.

Great little spot. The fries are delicious. I had the black truffle salt and chipotle ketchup. Service was terrific. I spoke with Mike who apparently has the same birthday as me! Definitely worth your money when enjoying a day at the beach.
