Great food, (and closest one to us, which is why we continue to keep going), but I always feel like I am let down by my server left waiting at this location, they are ver friendly but always seem to busy to refill our sodas or check on us Most recently, on Halloween this year they had a deal they sent out via email, for a bogo entree but ceased to mention they decided to close early that night So after trick or treating me and my family arrived with coupon to find the place closed and we went to Coco's

Disappointed with the shakes. I had banana chocolate and it had micro pieces of banana (not many) and very watered down (melting). My boyfriend had the double dark chocolate and it was regular chocolate with a small amount of chips. :(

Come here all the time to see Tanya, she's the greatest(:

Had the apple oatmeal and a hard boiled egg for breakfast. Breakfast here is a hidden gem. There aren't a lot of options in the area and this hits the spot. Francisco was hands down the best server I've had here. My boyfriend and I come in far too often and the service is usually alright. Sometimes a little slow, but never bad. Francisco happily accommodated all the strange modifications to the order I made and politely informed me of which ones couldn't be done because of the way the dish was made. He also figured out how to get me a hard boiled al carte egg. I didn't see it on the menu, so I was anticipating being told I couldn't have it. However, he was extremely kind and didn't think twice about it. He also came by to check on me and make sure my food was the way I wanted and even made a bit of small talk. I love a server who knows how to talk just enough to put you at ease while dining alone and doesn't intrude. The food is spot on, considering the kind of place this. I actually enjoyed my oatmeal quite a bit. However, I think service is where restaurants in this tier can stand out. Francisco made my dining experience from me mediocre to awesome. Btw, he just brought me a fresh cup of coffee because they just finished another brew. He's seriously awesome.

Ruby's got it right. this is regarding kids drink cups. Ruby's get the extra star for getting the kids cups right. First the service was friendly and courteous as always. The food is consistently good and timely. Back to the kids cups. Short, sealed tops and.... wait for it. ..BENDY straws so it is easy for a toddler. Every restaurant should do this.

I love Ruby's because whenever I come here, I know what to expect, and there are no surprises. But all in a good way. Burgers, fries, and milkshakes or flavored Cokes are the way to go here. Can't go wrong with that. Deviate from it by ordering tacos or a salad, etc... then I can see where room for errors can happen. A Ruby's classic cheeseburger, garlic or chili cheese fries, and a diet Cherry Coke always makes me happy and it's easy on the wallet, too!

Food was good to until it was ruined by a roach crawling on the table! Unfortunately we saw it after finishing our meal after moving an orange slice we left in the table...then there was a bug flying over our table the whole meal. Spent dinner trying to swat it away.

Ambience 1 (cleanliness is atrocious) Food 1 (I would love to do a Gordon Ramsey on this place) simple rule of thumb, if you wouldn't eat it don't serve it. If you would serve this, go work on car engines. Service 1 (Much closer to DMV than restaurant) It's pretty obvious that management doesn't really care about the guest experience here. Twice cooked fries, dirty cups, tables... It shows that nobody cares here. I realize that I was in a hurry, and we were literally across the street, but lesson learned. I was still expecting clean, palatable food, and an inkling of service. Bott line; Avoid this place if at all possible.

Much better service and food than few years back. We really enjoyed our lunch. The Hickory Burger was so delicious.

Great place to take the family. Of the kids get a red gumball out of the machine, they get a free root beer float with the next meal. Love the hickory burger and onion rings. Their ice cream shakes are delish. Oreo, strawberry, and holiday pumpkin are my favorites.

I like coming to this ruby's but today was the worst service ever. I was waiting 20 min for someone would come by so I can get extra fries, watching the manager do NOTHING to check on diners. I think he was making his own shake and getting his dinner ready. You need a new manager that will walk around checking with your diners.

I like Rubys overall. The service was ok. Get their burgers. Shakes are also very good. If you didn't know it was on the corner, you could miss it. Would definitely go back.

My favorite Ruby's location which is odd because there are so many great locations with epic views at the end of piers, etc...still this mellow location just does it for me. Size-wise it's the same as every other Ruby's...lots of parking, excellent service always and they are FAST. I have an hour-long lunch and they get us in and out of there in 45 minutes every time. This location also has a special place for me because they have an electric train running on a track around the entire restaurant...spectacular. Ruby's now has gluten-free buns which I appreciated and it was actually a really good bun! Could hardly tell the difference. I will always be back here.

The fact that you can get anything made with low carb tortillas will keep me bringing me back here. Try the low carb chicken soft tacos. I've been eating it 3 times a week here for months.

When we first walked in we were not so greeted by a skinny witch who just tossed the menus on the table. Nothing. No hello nothing. When I am going to go spend money your ass better be friendly! Fake. But friendly! Our waitress made up for it. She was patient as I had two kids with me and she was very polite and attentive. The food was warm, fast, and good.

My wife and I love this place and we eat here almost every weekend. The breakfasts are good and so are the burgers. They have gluten free English muffins for your breakfast and gluten free buns for you burgers. They even have real Malts! Ask for Tanya she is our favorite waitress.

We have not gone to the Tustin Ruby's for 2 years because of poor food quality & taste. This includes my getting deathly ill after eating a burger there. I returned to let the Manager know - he said I got ill over something else, not Ruby's food! Never even discussed possible problems, just dismissed me out of hand. Today we decided to try it again for breakfast. BIG MISTAKE! My companion had a professional relationship with Ruby Executives in the past and knows that their mission was to serve quality food. He can't understand how Ruby's could have sunk to this level. He had eggs Benedict, which were totally tasteless! I had the breakfast burrito. Essentially it was unseasoned scrambled eggs wrapped in a tortilla. No salsa, no taste, no good! And the potatoes were limp, lukewarm, grayish things. We will never go back to this Rubys, even to see if it's improved!

My son was hungry so I went in to Rubys to be greeted by know one. I waited then I walked to the chef and placed my order. A couple minuted later the GM-Betty asked if I had been helped. I told her I ordered with the chef and need to pay for what I ordered-a bacon and egg burrito plain. I was very specific that it needed to be plain for my son and she preceded to tell me what it comes with. I told her, I want the burrito plain with eggs, bacon, and tortilla. She gave me attitude and gave me the price of $9.71. I gave her my card and she gave me a shallow thank you. I will never go to this Ruby's ever. The chef had more people skills and a since of urgency than the unwelcoming GM.

went into rubys today for lunch. server was nice. food was good until we spotted a cockaroach on the wall behind me. we let the manager, betty, know and all she did was stare at the wall and say "okay" and walked away. cockaroach was left there for about 10 mins until our server squished it with his hand. betty did offer to move us or anything. we left our food less than half eaten of how disgusted we were. definetely not coming back to this rubys again!

My wife and I hadn't been to Ruby's in years and we couldn't remember why we stopped going there. We had initially wanted to go to Claim Jumper, but in spite of loving their food, I didn't want to deal with the wait and mid range prices. *Spoiler Alert* We found out why we stopped going to Ruby's years ago. After being told the wait would be 5 minutes, my wife, 4 year old child, and I were finally seated 20 minutes later. The staff was nice and apologetic, but it was still a 20 minute wait...much more than the 10 minute lunchtime wait at Claim Jumper. When we got to our booth, it wasn't dirty...but it wasn't clean either. The best way to describe is that it was worn out. The table and metal trim was heavily scratched and dented, and the pleather seat had a 6 inch gash that had been covered with packaging tape, and the surfaces were mildly sticky. I ordered the Bacon Burger because the menu states it is "Piled High" with savory bacon, but the actual burger only had two skinny bacon slices on a dry thin meat patty, with cheese and a clump of lettuce. I questioned the server and he assured me that the burger was assembled correctly, but he also brought me more bacon. Though the prices were listed on the menu, the prices didn't really hit home till I saw almost $40 for nothing more than $20 cafeteria food. The one better parts of the experience was the staff. The hostess was nice and apologetic and the waiter was attentive. So what was my take-away? If you want a family lunch for around $40 bucks and don't mind waiting 20 minutes to be seated...and you want good food...go to Claim Jumper! You'll get it faster, the place is cleaner, and you will eat what you pay for.

I hate to give bad reviews, but the last 3 times I've been here I've had the same experience. The service is just not good. The food is ok, but really not worth the bad service. This last time was the worst. There seemed to be a bunch of younger waitresses behind the counter chatting. None of them were helping the patrons in the restaurant. We waited almost 10 minutes before someone even came over to our table. The gal that served us wasn't even one of the many girls behind the counter. Our service was terribly slow but I don't know if it's because it seemed our waitress was the only one that was actually waitress-ing or what. It sure seemed that way. My grandma said her chili was terrible and my mom and my meals were just ok. With the truly horrible encounter I had over at Ruby's Streamliner Lounge in Orange and now the last 3 times this Tustin restaurant has been poor, Ruby's is no longer going to be getting my business.

My second review. Been coming here for 2 years. 2 reasons. Food is always great and done right. Service always great. Tanya goes her way to treat me right. I love their breakfast it's always hot and fresh. Shakes are top notch. Keep up the good work.

They have been at this location a long time, and have a pretty steady flow of customers even on week nights. That's a good sign. This is classic American food for the most part with an interesting decor. The seats are plastic and red, and the tiles are black and white, kind of tacky but it's the 50s theme I love the trains overhead. And it's got the coldest men's bathroom - great in summer but not so great if you get cold. For me the lights are too bright and it is loud. It's a popular Friends type hangout, you'll see lots of kids of all ages here. If you like to eavesdrop on your neighbor's conversations, it would be easy. Let's see, one family behind us was contemplating colleges for their son, the people in front of us had kids that wanted to buy toys after they told their mom they did all their homework. Tonight they had the friendliest staff, as several people refilled our glasses of soda, got extra napkins, brought ketchup, and said hello, etc. But I couldn't tell if they were "singing" their happy birthday schtick or not to a kid who just turned 10. Tone deaf is OK if they are good servers in my book. Imagine if the reverse were true. We've never had bad service or bad food here. Sometimes when it's busy, like a Friday night, it's a little slow but not too bad. You know that you're going to get here, and consistency/predictability is generally a good thing when it comes to going out for food. My favorite items here are the sliders with grilled onions and served in a Hawaiian roll, the regular burger and onion rings, the Chinese Chicken salad, clam chowder and salad, and the pot pie. I've been to other locations that serve breakfast but not at this location and I enjoyed it. It's not healthy food, and I almost feel guilty with some of this stuff. But it's okay, and the entree prices hover around $10, but you could just order a bowl of their nice clam chowder for half that. At least my wallet isn't empty today.

This Ruby's is sort of the go to breakfast place for my family. It is close. We always get seated right away. The food is consistent. Service is okay. We come here once or twice a month. My boys will eat Ruby's pancakes and bacon, so it is worthwhile to come just to get them to eat. The boys also behave fairly well because they are putting food in their mouthse instead of encouraging one another to to do things they know will raise daddy's blood pressure. We will be back.

Love rubys!! Such great service everytime we come in a large group as well! Tonight I actually tried to be healthy and got the skinny plate. Was pretty good dr the fact that its the lightest calorie option on the menu.

Overpriced mediocre diner food. Not a fan. Can't really recommend for adults. Ok for families with little kids and people without tastebuds. Kitchey chain decor. The staff is well trained and helpful so a second star is bestowed for effort. Shakes are good.

  • Sean D.

For a chain restaurant, this place is pretty good. Sometimes, though, the service can leave a little to be desired. Unless your server is Carlos, Alfredo or Manuel! These guys ROCK! If you have any of these three guys taking care of your table, you're gonna be taken care of with no worries and no hassles. They help you with your order, they make sure your drinks are always filled, they make sure your food isn't left sitting at the cook's counter under the lamps waiting to get to you... You'll have no problems whatsoever with these guys! If it's anyone else, it's a crapshoot. The food is good and the portions are good... But really... If those three guys leave, I won't have a reason to return.

Really like the 50s classic dinner atmosphere and the waitresses trademark uniforms. The food is great, love the Ruby Club sandwich. There are calories posted next to every item, even the milkshakes -___- (so good) Attentive & friendly service. No wait when I went on Tuesday around 4pm.

HAIR IN FOOD! Manager did not stop by the table to apologize. He sent the server over with a coupon for a milkshake. Server said, my manager said to give this to you. Well, thank you for the thought but, I'm allergic to dairy and I don't live in California to use it. On top of that the server forgot to ring in my cousins food. So not only did I have to wait for a new meal, but so did my cousin!!! When I brought the bill to the manager he casually says so I hear you're not from California so you can't use my milkshake coupon..... (Still no apology for how gross hair in anyone's food is) I let him know that the server also forgot to ring in my cousins food. So he said hey, how about I take 8 bucks off your meal...leaving me at $30. I'm sorry, most restaurants that I choose to dine with would have comped the whole meal and had been so apologetic about the experience. No one really seemed to care. Even though I'm dining from out of town. You will be losing my families business that lives here in Tustin and comes on a weekly basis. This was very poor customer service.

Came here this afternoon because my aunt was visiting and wanted a salad she has always liked at Rubys. The hostess wasn't particularly friendly and didn't really make eye contact. It was an off time after lunch and before dinner so they weren't super busy. The menus were on the table...they don't have the chicken finger salad any more. My food was ok. The service was a bit slow and not overly friendly. I guess I realized why I hadn't been to Rubys in awhile and won't be back. That was an expensive, not good lunch. I hope the people with kids and old folks got a kick out of the train. It just doesn't do it for me.

This Ruby's has very great service and yummy food. I had a guacamole burger minus the tomato and it was cooked perfectly! Definitely kid friendly! My girlfriend and I went with our 2 babies (7 and 10 months). My little guy made a huge mess and the server was great about it. (I did try to pick most of it up, but he told me not to worry). I will definitely come back to this location!

Came here on a Tuesday around 5:30pm and it was pretty busy. I've been to other Ruby's Diners but not this one-it's close to my house and right next to the bowling alley I was planning on going to (until we walked in and were told it would be an hour and a half wait). My boyfriend ordered a coke and a cheeseburger and I ordered a water and a Bacon cheeseburger. We ate both ate our whole meal and shared an "Itsy Bitsy Sundae." The sundae was a perfect size (we chose hot choc. sauce-hershey, no doubt) and it was topped with whipped cream, almonds, and a cherry. YUM! It was enjoyable and I would probably go back. Weird thing was that it was pretty cold outside (storm had come in) but inside the restaurant it was very warm. Too many people and no ventilation I think.

AWFUL! The clam chowder tasted like it came out of a can. It was a nasty clumpy consistency and super duper salty. They probably forgot to add milk to the can of Progresso they were using. I ate about a third and left the rest for the rats to eat. Actually, scratch that. Even they wouldn't eat that crap. Mama P got the seafood combo, which was recommended by our server. It wasn't too bad, but it did taste like frozen fish sticks. It's okay, I like frozen fish sticks. My highlight of the night was the King's Hawaiian roll our server so kindly graced me with. Slab some of that strawberry jelly on top and yum-o, something I can actually eat! Nam got the Hickory Burger with "premium beef" (which we later found out costs $2.50 extra...WOW MOM, that's crazy) and he loved it. Said it was very flavorful and delicious. If he was writing this review, he'd give it 3.5 stars.

Really, folks what do you expect from a place like Ruby's? It is a chain restaurant that is very kid friendly. Any place that has a theme is going to have your standard chain fare. There is a train that runs along an elevated platform to the delight of children. The menu is predictable -- nothing daring here. If you like hamburgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, cobb salads, you know what you are going to get. They do innovate on ice cream shake flavors. They also offer a "lite" menu and choice of veggie or turkey burgers and "protein" style as a healthier alternative. Note: They will try to upsell you at every turn. "How about some onion rings to start?" "Can I offer you a chocolate chake with your meal?" "Have room for a banana split?" Quick and easy, average to good food.

I've always had a pleasant experience at this particular Ruby's. The service is prompt, attentive, they get your order right the first time, we even came kinda late one time and the staff was still super courteous even though it was near closing time. They didn't treat us any differently or rush us so they could close up.

  • Alma P.

I always tend to forget about Ruby's... even though I drive by it all the time on my way to the gym, to the cleaners, etc. It's just one of those places that seems to get lost after time cuz it's been there for flippin ever. The good thing is that every time I 'rediscover' it I'm always pleasantly pleased by the reliably good food and service. Is it gonna win any awards? Prolly not. Can you *always* bet on a great burger, sandwich or salad? Always. On my last trip I had the tri-tip sliders which were really tasty -- on a slightly sweet bun with carmelized onions and a tasty au jus sauce on the beef. Paird it with the (upgraded) garlic fries and it made my day. :-) Another key thing is that at least once a month I get a bogo coupon in the local mailer which makes this even more tasty. ;-) PS They also serve breakfast all day -- a little tid bit that I always forget about as I'm one of those breakfast-for-dinner lovers.

I've been waiting to review this Ruby's, hoping they would do a better job... But the other day was my 3rd visit in a row with lousy service, so now you guys get the hammer! -The host did not seem very happy to see us when we walked in the door, and the waiter was not very happy either. -While waiting for my food, eventually I could see 6 plates sitting by the cooks, waiting to be picked up by the wait staff. I watched for not less than 5 minutes as my plate (and 5 other guests' they were not happy to see) sat there getting cold. I was tempted to get up and grab it myself, as I could see two waiters (one mine) standing around not doing much. Finally my waiter noticed me obviously staring at the plates sitting up there, and he casually made his way over to pick them up and serve me. My grilled cheese is a very time sensitive item, and so are the chili cheese fries.. By the time they arrived to my table both looked very sub-par for Ruby's, and both were just mildly warm. Now, maybe I am a little biased, because I eat at a Ruby's usually about once a week... But, usually I eat at the Anaheim or Orange location, and they have their $h!t together. The Tustin one is worth avoiding. I would eat in the Coco's down the street instead.

When you think of Diner food, go to Ruby's! As I've already reviewed Bob's Big Boy and discussed my hands-down disappointment, Ruby's is on the other side of the spectrum. Much better food, the best shakes in town, friendly and fast service, They turkey club sandwich has nice pieces of turkey, turkey carving style. They have nice portions and delicious parmesan-blue-cheese fries. They have a great breakfast menu and goes till 11:30am, though they have about 4 breakfast items that are all day. The shakes are plentiful, scrumptious, and rich. There are many flavors to choose from and you can combine flavors to create your own. I created a chocolate chip and peanut butter one, it tasted like Peanut Butter Cup. They stick to their diner theme in appearance from inside to out. And go for your birthday so they can sing to you in their own version of Happy Birthday. Its rather funny.

I was really disappointed. I haven't been to Ruby's in forever and just remember the cute nostalgic feel and was looking forward to it. I remember they used to have all these guidelines about their servers and specifically their nail polish, it had to be clear or red, our waitress had ugly chipped nail polish, It wasn't busy at all and during our lunch hour, I was surprised, I was even more surprised that the service was soo slow. I love fish and chips and was excited to see that on their menu. It was described as: PACIFIC HALIBUT FISH & CHIPS Batter-dipped, golden-fried Pacific Halibut fillets. Served with our own coleslaw, "Refillable" Fries, cocktail sauce and tartar sauce. It should have read "Van de Kamps" It was gross!! My co-worker had the Buffalo Ranch Chicken Sandwich, the words he used was a flavorless chicken breast with too much sauce. What was great was their Chili, didn't expect that. I could have spent the $36 on SUSHI! Won't be back!

The wife became addicted to the Kobe Burgers and sliders when she was in Palm Springs. When she came home she drug me out to try them and I am a fan! Overall this place has great taste and good value. You can even drink a beer with your food. Burgers + beer = smile. The only downside is that lots of people bring their kids. Not that there is anything wrong with that but I remember what happened to Fudruckers many years ago -- a gourmet burger joint turned into a place to let your kids run amok while you killed your brain cells with beer. Extra points for a shake made correctly and giving me an ice cream headache.

Came here with a friend a few days ago while visiting the area, and I must say I was quite pleased. Not only could I order an interesting burger with jalapenos, but could also have cajun fries and a chocolate shake! I wish I had looked at my placemat, because they had at least ten different flavors for the shake... The beverages and food came quickly, too, and the service was excellent. Pretty much the only things keeping me from giving a full 5 stars were 1) the sturdiness of the napkin holders, which my friend and I kept having to stand back up because behind it was where the menus were stored, and 2) it's a diner! Unless a diner is complete wah poosh kick ass, which this one wasn't (though it still was excellent), it won't get 5 stars. However, we later discovered another Ruby's Diner that was at the end of a pier, and people could eat on the roof! THAT could possibly be worthy of 5 stars.

Basically there is no difference in menu at which ever Ruby's you go to, however, there are definitely differences in the service you receive, the way something is prepared and the atmosphere you're dining in. Firstly, I must say, I really liked the layout of this particular Ruby's. Although I didn't think our service was all that great, it was okay. I ordered the skinny breakfast which included 2 eggs, cottage cheese, fruit and wheat toast. I ordered my eggs poached and was very pleased to find them perfectly done upon arrival. Lil guy got the pigs in a blanket and boy were they huge pancakes for a child's breakfast. The sausages were really salty though but he seemed to like them. I also got an order of bacon to share. All in all, I thought the breakfast was good, I really liked the place, if only the service was better, it would be 5 stars. No one came to refill my water, but when I asked it was refilled promptly. No real complaints. Ruby's is Ruby's.

Pretty good! We eat here quite often because it is close to the house! Ate there today and service was a bit off. The waitress repeated everything we said to her. Our order did come out right but the ordering process took forever for 3 kids and 2 adults due to the constant repeating. And we had to continue to ask for refills on our sodas and water. Cant' go wrong with their food - something for everyone. Glad they expanded their menu with more taco options as well as a healthier section too! The kids do love those fold out cars to play with while waiting! Wish they would bring in some other options though like trains, planes, etc.

I really enjoy rubys! My only real complaint is that I don't think that shakes should be THAT expensive! My bf and I ate here today and we got the hickory bbq sliders. It was't on the menu anymore but they still made it for us. I really enjoy those mini burgers with bbq sause, bacon, and crispy onion rings. I especially like the fact that you can share a meal here really easily with the refillable fries. :D I'll keep coming to ruby's every once in a while when i'm craving some sliders or maybe if there is another retro pricing deal day again!

For the past several months, I have eaten there once a week. I'm a fan of the roast turkey breast sandwich! The staff are pleasant and helpful.

I ate here last night. The food was really unhealthy and gave me a stomach ache Fries were ok. Prices are really high for what you really get.

Well I have been to Ruby's many times. This particular day we went for my niece's bday lunch. I got there warly and had to leave earlier then everyone, due to work. When i sat down a waiter came over to me and asked about my drink preference and went to retrieve it. Once he set down my drink, i didn't see him until the rest of my party got there.....15 minutes later! Now, i had gotten there a little early so i could order my food and not be late for work. Besides that issue, the food was good. I had the caeser salad and a cup of chili. I enjoyed the chili because it was shredded beef instead of beans and chuncks of beef. I left before everyone else was done with their meals, but they seemed to enjoy it.

It it 445am. I am up with stomach flu. I ate at Rubys at 6pm last night. I had half a blta sandwich and a side of cottage cheese. I have been on the toilet since 2am. I know I did not over-eat. I want my $12.00 back. Bad times, Rubys... Bad times. :(

For the most part you know what you are going to get when you come here. Pretty good all American diner food. Our last visit we had a really nice waiter who was very attentive. It is always a good choice when we don't know where else to go.

Arrived at Ruby's dinner at 12:01 on thanksgiving day. There were plenty of people in the restaurant ordering from waiters as we walked to the front door. To my suprise the doors were locked. I knocked on the door to get a explanation. The hostest saw me at the door and ignored me and went on with her buisness. From outside I could clearly see people sitting down and ordering drinks and lunch. Several other people arrived and also had the same reaction with no luck. There was no sign posted of hours of operation or anything of that nature. I have been going there for years and this experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I do not plan on returning soon. Don't eat at places that have bad management and even worse sutomer service. Roll damn Tide

I eat here everytime I'm in town, which is at least twice a month. The retro-feel is great, the food is great and consistent, the service is warm. They offer healthy fare, turkey sausage, egg white dishes, whole wheat pancakes...all are SO yummy!!! It never matters what you're hungry for, you'll find something here!!!

I've been going to Ruby's Diner's all my life and typically it is enjoyable but this place was HORRIBLE!!! I took my wife and 2 little sisters (age 8/10) there on a Friday night for some weekend fun. The person who sat us did so in silence... no "how's it going" or "have a good meal". We soon realized after meeting our waitress that our previous encounter with the host was actually a pleasure when compared to her! She had an awful attitude. She wasn't helpful or friendly... it was really off putting. We had to almost reach out and grab her to ask for refills to our drinks. When our food arrived it was bland and uninspired (which come to think of it is usually typical of Ruby's). All in all we couldn't wait to get out of there. The topper to the whole ordeal was after we paid our bill (our waitress rang us up and was STILL giving attitude), both my little sisters wanted to get a gumball from the venting machine in the lobby. To our surprise, my littlest sister received a red gumball which entitled her to a free milkshake. We were all excited and when we went to redeem it, the waitress managed to further ruin our experience by handing my 8 year old sister a coupon for a milkshake and saying nothing more than "Here you go..." to congratulate her. All in all, I guess this is more a cautionary tale about the service at Ruby's than the food itself. To be fair, the food is really boring and it isn't anything you couldn't find at a dive diner. Do yourself a favor and save your money for restaurant that deserves your time!

Wow! This restaurant has exceptional service, everything is spotless, and you can't beat the price. It's super family friendly! Don't go here if you can't handle a little noise from all the kids having a great time. Special shout out to Carlos our server....he was FAST, FRIENDLY, and FANTASTIC!

Was here 2 weeks ago, this place is awesome. The bugers are great; flavorful, mouthwatering, and just plain awesome. Great alternative to Johnny Rockets. Price is not bad; great atmosphere even though you don't get the whole dancing theme like with Johnny Rockets. Will definitely come here again, maybe not this location, but other locations.

I have eaten here many times over the years. The last two times I have had to send the check back for correction of an overcharge... $2.57 yesterday...$17.42 for a CheeseBurger and side OnionRings was a tip-off! Do the math,,,,,and don't get ripped-off! BTW, food is always top quality there.

I am a big fan of Rubys just NOT this one! Their service gets worse every time I go there. The food is sloppy and unpleasant looking. It almost seems like the management and or owners do not care anymore, so the staff no longer cares.

Ruby's was my favorite childhood spot to come with the family when I was a kid. Now that I've come back when I'm older I can only like it based on the nostalgia. The atmosphere is cool. But $9 for a burger? Are you kidding me. The shakes aren't cheaper either and the food, while above average, doesn't justify what you'll pay. Definitely a place more for kids the more I see it now.

After posting my review I was contacted by a manager from Ruby's who thanked me for my feedback and told me that he would be passing it on to the restaurant manager and the regional manager. I respect and appreciate a business that stays on top of what customers say on various websites and use that to make improvements. I'm very impressed with Ruby's response. I would recommend them to friends and family based on how they handled my review.

Welove it here. The shakes burgers and service are awesome. Love the Chili cheese fries are too die for. I order the hickory smoke bacon burger for Lunch and Diner. For breakfast huevos rancheros and Chili cheese ommolete are split with wife. Kids love the mac & cheese and menu, which can be folded to a car or an airplane.

Sometimes you just need some comfort food. A hamburger, fries and a shake just might do the trick, and nobody does those better than Ruby's. The Ruby's in Tustin is as good as any of the others I've eaten at, and there have been a few. Go for the Garden Burger if you are a vegetarian like I am. It's plenty tasty on it's own, but I like to add pepper Jack cheese and/or avocado. Also consider the onion rings instead of the fries. They're greasy but good, especially if you ask for Bar-b-q sauce in lieu of the ketchup. I normally like a pineapple shake, but the pineapple in Ruby's shakes is a little too chunky and keeps blocking the straw. Try a 50/50 orange shake as a citrusy alternative. You won't be disappointed. Ruby's is on the SE corner of Newport and Irvine. It's a little tricky to get into by car from Irvine going east; go to the second drive past past Newport and make a couple of rights. Coming from the east, turn into the Ralph's parking lot, go to the west end an make a left and a right. From the north on Newport, make a left on Irvine, go to the second drive and make two rights. Coming from the south on Newport, just turn into the parking lot. If you don't want to hassle the car, the OCTA 60 and 79 both stop closeby.

well my friend Alex works here, so normally I just pay him a visit. ive gone here plenty of times, but really enjoyed my time last night. I ordered the kobe beef sliders adn garlic fries. now Im SUPER picky when it come to garlic fries..and I love my garlic, but they got it just right. and of course the oreo cookie fantasy. I was in love, and my broke friend niki came with me so i let her have my salad. the waitress was really great considering I was being a pain with all the substitutions and the stuff I wanted on the side :)

I have to agree with some of the folks here ... The food was decent, the service mediocre ... 3 stars for the ambience mostly ... Disappointing ...

Go here for breakfast on the weekends. It's good. Great place to nurse that hangover from Friday night... I'll be the guy with the French Toast pancakes or the corned beef scramble.

I went to this ruby's for breakfast, the service was slow. It took forever for the waitress to come and take our order. Their cinnamon roll toast was good but a tad bit too sweet for me. But, it was more food than i could have finished. The portions are well worth your money

One of the other reviewers called it comfort food. That's exactly what Ruby's offers. Most people line up for brunch, but my favorite time in dinner time on a Saturday evening. It's not crowded and people are "come as you are." I don't feel the need to change from shorts and a t-shirt. It's that laid back. Now, the staff is dressed in period costume, the restaurant is over the top 1950's diner, but don't let the decor get in the way of a comfort food experience. I recently had a Ruby Melt (a patty melt). It's a gooey cheesy burger on grilled rye bread. Also try the meatloaf "Red Plate." Now, if you find yourself at a weekend brunch, prepare of lots of kids and long lines. This particular Ruby's is at the Cross Roads of Irvine and Newport Blvd. Not your typical Ruby's location of being at the end of a pier or in a hopping suburban location. Go for the food, don't expect gourmet, it's kid friendly... and so should you. We were all kids once... relive the experience.
