Lombardi’s BBQ Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

From the looks of the line this is a locals hotspot! All the sandwiches that came out looked amazing. We had the Reuben. No disappointment!!! Delish. The husband and I also had the coleslaw, also amazing. The slaw is a perfect mix of creaminess with out being soggy. I suggest going on a nice day, grabbing a split on the grass and picnicking. Great location for everyone.

Great Deli. I've had (and loved) the tri-tip sandwich, BBQ chicken, and a few of their turkey sandwiches. Each are great in their own right - everything is fresh and top-notch. Lombardi's is best known for their tri-tip and if you eat on the patio you can watch them cook it and catch the aroma of the delicious meats smoking on the grill. The people are friendly and the service is quick.

They recently catered our daughters wedding and everything was awesome! The food, the staff, the setup and cleanup. We had 190+ guests and they set up the buffet with 4 lines, everyone was feed in no time. The tri-tip, chicken and pasta were delicious. Also, no one waited to get the passed hors d'oeuvres, they were everywhere. The bartenders we quick and friendly with little or no wait for drinks. If you need catering, this is the place to call.

Don't let the smoke fool you - it's a deli not a restaurant. A popular one from the locals. Don't come here to relive your BBQ dreams from Austin or even the mid-west. The pulled pork is reheated and lacks the chunky, glistening sweetness that is real BBQ. Sandwiches are mostly bread making my pulled pork taste like tuna salad. No hot sides, no wedge fries. It's a BBQ deli. I'm so confused.

I love this place! I always order the Killer Joe and it does have a lot of sauce and it is sloppy (I think the name implies that is their take on a sloppy joe, but maybe I'm wrong) and while it may not be food you want to eat on your first date it is DELICIOUS and when I'm coming home from work I have a hard time not stopping to grab one of these comforting sandwiches. Also their potato salad and pasta salad are awesome and so is their drink selection. I very much recommend this place!

We love Lombardi's!!! Not only do we love to stop by when we're in Petaluma, but they are one of our top preferred vendors for our venue! My husband and I are the property managers of Anvil Vineyard and Ranch, a vacation rental, where we also host weddings. Lombardi's blows us away with their amazing food, and they also provide exceptional catering staff when they cater a wedding reception. Everyone is so friendly and professional!

Best place in town by far! You want the best BBQ go there or have them cater your event! I personally have worked side by side at weddings and other events with them and are super easy, fun and on time!

Sooooo Yummmmmyyyyy. Now I have only tried the pulled pork sandwich and the gobbler (thanksgiving in a sandwich..oooo..sooo good), but that is enough to keep me coming back!

Good tri tip sandwich, BBQ baked beans was also good. Taste is good, could've been a little warmer.

Best.BBQ.Ever! You can literally smell it from a mile away! I've been here many, many times and have never been disappointed! From BBQ to sandwiches, to salads, to dessert, everything is top notch good! Ginormous selection of drinks to choose from. Water, sodas, beer, wine, you name it--they got it. And if they don't, you probably didn't want it anyways. Love it here!

As you drive up North on Petaluma Blvd., you'll definitely smell the foul smell of cow-dripping. And as you get closer to the Lombardi's, you can smell the Barbecue Pit smoking outdoor from blocks away. I hope the deli doesn't combine the two, if you know what I mean. Unlike some of my recent BBQ visits, Lombardi's is more like a deli. Plus they sell cooked items. To make our meal more satisfying, Lombardi's also sell beer and a good selection of Wine, with Napa not far away. Locals from nearby Sonoma County cities drive huge pickups, SUV's, RV's and Harley's. And me being the visitor, I drove my small Toyota Corolla and "squeezed" in between two huge Gas-hungry Sports-Utility-Vessels. From the menu posted on the wall behind the deli counter, the sandwich can be made your way with any of the available cooked meat or Cold Cuts or you can eat one of Lombardi's Specialty Sandwiches, in which I took the Basil Pesto and Grilled Chicken. For $6.95, the special sandwich has Grilled Chicken (which was cooked prior in the BBQ Pit), Basil-Pesto sauce, Jack Cheese and the usual sandwich condiment in a Sourdough Roll. The sandwich is very similiar to a sandwich I've had at Ike's (#75 Zito). But nevertheless, a very good, smokey and lean sandwich. The sandwich: yelp.com/biz_photos/ZkEZ… I paid my lunch in cash. Credit Cards and Debit Cards are also accepted too. The staffs were very friendly and in good sprit. For that, if I'm in North Petaluma again, I'll definitely eat other BBQ foods from Lombardi's

I had always seen this place across from the outlets, so after my last shopping spree I was looking for some lunch and decided to give it a try. Just the smell of BBQ as you approach this place makes your mouth water. The tri-tip was the first thing that caught my eye on the menu, so I tried that and some orzo salad from the deli case. Sandwich was delicious!!! Lots of high-quality meat and yummy sauce (but not too much). Prices were fair and food was fast. The salad was good too. I would go back here any day!

Most outstanding sandwiches and excellent bar-b-que. Been here for lunch a few times. They have some kick-butt sandwiches. The place is really convenient to get in and out. The staff is friendly and very efficient. The quality is top notch. You can order and eat on premises, either inside or outside on the patio. There's no doubt they do barbque...they have six smokers going right outside the front door. It's a barbque production line. My fav is the pulled pork sandwich...but everyone I was with got something different and everyone raved. Don't skip this place if you're in town looking for some good grub.

Lombardi's BBQ is exactly what we were looking for. Some good old fashioned barbecue. Couldn't be happier with the service or the quality of the food. Shout out to daughter of Lee's who now manages the place!

I love Lombardi's. They are a Petaluma BBQ'in tradition. They recently catered an event where they brought their BBQ onsite. They showed up early enough to setup properly. Their service team looked professional and gracefully kept the event tidy by picking up plates, glassware, emptying trash bins, etc.. We needed 2 bartenders to pour drinks, they had a combined 20+ years of experience so I was confident they would 'manage' drinks as needed. It was a pleasure working with Nancy and Scott. Nancy helped us develop the menu based on our needs. Scott executed flawlessly, with tasty food and kind customer service, willing to go the extra mile. The food was great - we had chicken and trip tip, creamy sundried tomato basil penne pasta (crowd favorite), grilled asparagus and mushrooms and cornbread with honey butter! Any leftovers were taken by guests in 'to go' boxes. The food was fresh and had good flavor. I highly recommend Lombardi's!

I'm unsure why this place receives such rave reviews. I've tried it on numerous occasions and various menu items and it is always disappointing and sub par. Their slaw and potato salads are bland and flavorless. The BBQ sauces are not tangy and quite uninteresting. The oysters are not fresh at all and not prepared properly(several had massive bile sacks as best I can describe them...quite gross and nauseating). Needless to say it has been too many strikes for me to try it again.

Good service but as someone who has lived in the southern United States for 7 years and has had a lot of BBQ, I'd have to say the food was just okay.

I've been comming here for ever but lately things have gotten bad and continue to get worse to the point that I don't think I will be comming back or attempting to give them a second chance .. I have been comming here for 10+ years and everything has always been great but the last 3 times I've come here for BBQ the chicken I ordered was bloody ,the next time it was over cooked dry and hard ,and this time the chicken sandwich I ordered had sliced BBQ chicken that was so hard and over cooked that taking a bite of it made a louder crunching sound then bitting throu the hard roll it was on . I have never given lombardis a review but today I felt it was a must since there qaulity has really declined and that I have been a long time customer

Smoked Tri-tip with spicy horseradish cheddar was awesome! they had a huge fly problem which got rather annoying after awhile, i feel like we were fighting off flies more then we were enjoying our food. I also like the fact that you can walk in a pick from a variety of sides, drinks, and meats/sandwiches!

  • Bob N.

As the long lines out the door will attest, this is a popular local place. It's a funky setup... one long line for deli customers and ordering food... but the staff is fast and friendly, so it works. The smell from the smokers out front is mouth-watering, and the sandwiches are really, really good. It's easy access from the highway, so it's a great stop for road trips.

About three weeks ago I had a bad experience here, watching the employee's behind the counter making sandwiches without wearing any gloves. After receiving a email from the owner Scott saying he would make sure that they would all be gloved up from then on, I decided to give them a second chance. That was a HUGE mistake!!! I literally witnessed some really disturbing and horrible food safety practices! A woman cutting a loaf of bread with no gloves, a guy picking what probably was a hair out of a dish (looked like pulled pork) inside the deli case with no gloves, another guy getting slices of cheese from the deli case with no gloves, and another guy making a sandwich without gloves, and wiping his hands on his apron and on a dirty rag!!! Honestly I am not a germaphobe...but seriously! This is raw food people are going to eat! And having bare hands touch the meat, cheese, and veggies, or anything else at a place of business which sells mostly food is really unacceptable!!! How hard is it to provide gloves and train employees on how to properly handle food safely? Guess the answer is it must be too much work for them or else they wouldn't risk their customers well being.

Post Petaluma outlet shoppping hunger prompted us to drive around looking for food since there wasn't any food at the outlet. We saw the sign that said "BBQ Oysters" and that piqued our interest. Outside the store/restaurant was a row of smokers, and inside the there was a line of people waiting to put in their orders. You line up, put in your order, and wait. I ordered a BBQ chicken breast sanwich and my friends ordered the Pulled Pork sandwich. When my order was ready, I was suprised that it did not have BBQ sauce in it. That was my fault since I didn't ask, but BBQ chicken sandwich was moist and juicy. I had a bit of my friend's Pulled Pork and it was really good - I could taste the smokiness of the pork and the BBQ sauce. The BBQ sauce didn't overpower the pork and that's what stood out to me. It also had a little kick which was a little too much for me but I think it would be fine for most people. I don't know why we didn't try the BBQ oysters but that would definitely be an incentive the next time we go to the outlets!

BEST BBQ tri tip sandwich I've EVER had. Bread is soft, meat is tender, sauce is tasty. Just watch out for the boulder by the parking lot! We were in a truck and couldn't see it when backing out so dinged our truck :/

  • Grace Y.

They make a mean sandwich here...especially if you like BBQ. Their tri-tip sandwich is warm and saucy and gooey and every savory flavor and texture you could ever want. I love their vegetarian sandwich here, especially with the abundance of sun-dried tomatoes and the artichoke spread. There's a lot of choices too, so you never get bored. I'm not a huge fan of the sides, but I did say that there are a lot of choices and I've gotten nowhere near putting a dent in sampling their menu. On the plus side, there are a ton of drinks and snack foods inside kind of like a convenience store. They also have crab and BBQ oysters, but I haven't been brave enough to order either, although I hear it's good. I like sitting outside on the patio and eating, but make sure you're not sitting downwind of the smokers or else you're gonna get smoke in your face while you eat, and baby it burns. Let me tell you that the sandwiches here are GOOOOOOOOOOD.

Man!!! These guys are very serious about their BBQ, there have row of smokers lined up at your sevice. Very juicy and quality meat. Descent sandwich overall. And likethe fact that they sell different kind of salads also. Overall great place.

3.75 stars. Nice place to stop at on our way back from Anchor bay campgrounds. The sight of multiple smokers bellowing smoke as I pulled up made me excited to try this place out. I ordered the bbq chicken sandwich.Chicken.was a little dry but it was smothered in sauce so it was evened out. Girlfriend had the pulled pork. It was tasty but a little heavy on the black pepper. All in all worth trying out. Staff was friendly and prompt. Great selection of bottled ice tea, soda's and other drinks you dont normally see. Prices are average and sandwiches are filling.

  • Kylee C.

Fantastic is the only way I can describe this place. From BBQ to sandwiches they are the tops. The bread is delicious and the tri-tip even better. Their sausage sandwich is fantastically spicy and their macaroni salad is the perfect compliment. Also, they have Clover Milk, and as a Petaluman, that's tops.

  • Jeff G.

Ordered half a dozen basil butter garlic BBQ oysters. OMG they were good! A little over $13 and totally worth it. They server until about 6:30-7:00pm. Oyster season ends in about two months and then they replace one of their BBQs with a crab boiler for crab season. I'll be back.

Delicious! Always a hit with food and customer service. Community based- always supportive!

  • Alli Q.

This place is more like a deli with BBQ sandwiches than a BBQ place (as if you can't just order a plate of BBQ with two sides). Either way, I thought this place was great and really tasty. We ordered the tri-tip sandwich and it satisfied my craving for BBQ with no problem. There were also a variety of potato and macaroni salads available. The staff was really friendly and there was plenty of seating available both inside and outside.

We hired Lombardi's to cater our wedding for 80 guests. Nancy was great to work with - very helpful and friendly! The team of girls showed up right on time the night of our wedding and were wonderful the whole evening. The food was delicious - all of our guests raved about the butternut squash ravioli. We opted to to have the food cooked at Lombardi's and delivered in chafing dishes and everything was still hot and fresh tasting when it got to us. I would absolutely use them again for another event!

I love this place.. I have been here about 100 times over the past 10 years and I almost always order the same thing. #7 "Killer Joes" It a hearty sandwich with tri-tip in their signature barbecue sauce (very tangy and delicious) Its on a soft roll with horseradish cheddar, tomato, onions etc. Also like to order the "gobbler" A sandwich with turkey, cranberry sauce and stuffing. The food here is absolutely delicious! I also like the out door seating area and the fact that you can buy beer there and sit down and enjoy a good sandwich. I will always come to this place.

    (5)
  • John H.

Yep, it's all about the tri-tip BBQ sandwich here. It is very garlicky and you will be wearing it for the rest of the day, but it was pretty darn good. I thought the sides were pretty bland, but I would come back for more tri-tip.

    (4)
  • Nawaf A.

I came here and tried a BBQ tri tip sandwich and a BBQ chicken sand which. Both 1/3 pounds. I have to say they were the worst BBQ sandwiches I have ever had. They tasted really funky and bad. I dont know if it was bad meat or just bad bbq sauce. But both ethe chicken and beef were bad to I assume it was the sauce Not really good BBQ, I havent tried the rest of the menu, but when BBQ is in your name thats what I expect them to be the best at.

  • Coco H.

This place is absolutely delicious! I went there last Sunday after some shopping at the Petaluma outlets. I got the chicken club and my mom got the BBQ salmon sandwich. I would highly recommend both! The service was awesome and the vibe is really friendly. The best part though - the cheesecake!!! Best I've ever had! So good in fact I went again on Tuesday to get some!

We took a road trip up here w/ Nina and Larry on the strength of the Yelp reviews and I expected more. The building is cool, w/ a veranda across the front and wrapping around the side. Several smokers were lined up in front near the parking lot. There are tables and chairs on the veranda as well as inside. Nina, Alan and I ordered tri-tip sandwiches. Larry ordered a half rack of baby back ribs. We got 4 deviled eggs and 12 barbecued asparagus. The tri-tip was in sauce, which I would have known if I'd looked at the menu. I prefer Kinder's ball tip sandwiches because there's no sauce and you can taste the meat. The rib I tasted was very good: meaty, tender and fat-free. No sauce, just seasonings rubbed on. Sauce was available if wanted. I would order ribs next time if we were up that way. The eggs were tasty. The asparagus were overseasoned for my taste, but everyone else liked them. The high point of the trip was a scenic tour of the West side of Petaluma by Larry, who grew up there. He's our age, so you know that was long ago. We saw beautifully maintained old houses in a variety of architectural styles and their gardens, civic buildings and parks. It was a great pleasure. The tour gets 5 stars.

October 2009: I've eaten here 10 times since news years day this year. Always in house - Never take out. Drive up to see the 7 BBQ smokers burning full tilt out front. That's your hint on what to order & eat. The pork ribs are mighty good. I usually get a sandwich and a side salad. All the sandwiches are very moist. The bread usually falls apart before I'm done chewing. Potato salad, coleslaw, green salads are all competent. Better than Safeway / Raleys, maybe not as good as Whole Foods. Portion sizes are farm boy big. For $8.99 you're gonn'a get stuffed. The $14.95 Take out dinner of whole Roast chicken and 4 sides to feed four hungry adults is a maximum bargain. Way better than KFC. Got Asthma? Word of warning, the copious BBQ smoke seems always to blow onto the dining deck - Can be a real respiratory irritant. Sure makes me cough. Recommend that : you eat on the front lawn during nice weather, or take out.

Oh my gosh, this place has it all! Great food, service and atmosphere! A few too many flies at the outside dinning but that's Petaluma in the fall.

    (5)
  • Ashley L.

I'm an huge fan of ribs, and this place didn't sell short of ribs! They offered full rack and half racks and they were nice racks at that (queue rimshot). I got a half rack of pork ribs and they could have fed a small town. Not enough BBQ sauce, but the sauce was awesome. Also had a tri-tip sandwich while there, which was not dry and very tasty. Never seen a larger selection of salads, mostly potato. The one with the bacon in it was really yummy. They sell it in 1/2 pints and pints. Also lots of choices in beverages, I was stoked to see my favorite Moylan's brand soda sitting in their refrigerators. I enjoyed sitting outside in their redwood garden watching them throw the meat on the grill every 15 minutes. Very entertaining stuff. Would give them more stars, but I have had better BBQ, not gonna lie.

  • Jeff B.

Amazing selection of sandwiches that you would not see anywhere else. A girl from Lagunita's Brewery ordered a veggie with turkey, and it is a new favorite. The hamburgers are bomb, so are the tri tip, pulled pork and BBQed chicken. Fresh sides and an amazing selection of beverages!

This is a deli/grocery store that happen to do BBQ. Pleasant setting and decent menu. FOOD - My BBQ sandwich meat was pulled out of the deli counter and microwaved. The ribs were dry. What else is there to say. SERVICE - Bunch of clueless kids behind the counter, managed by marginally less clueless gimpy manager. Their was maybe 5-6 people at the counter waiting for their orders. Gimpy moved fast but simply did not have his shizzle together, pure chaos. Waited 25 mins at the counter, no clear communication as to who's food was up. Microwave food + poor service. No Thanks.

    (2)
  • Sherry G.

Mediocre bordering on average. BBQ might be fine, but the sandwiches are not overabundant, and the meats were warmed in the microwave. If you're driving by and starving...

    (2)
  • Bryan B.

Phenomenal! I want to give this place 6 stars. We had the half rack of ribs, coleslaw, and pulled pork. Until now I could not imagine that barbecue on the west coast could rival some other parts of the country. The sauce, the freshness of the slaw and the smoke flavor of the ribs put this joint out in front.

Best oysters in town they serve them Friday-Sunday other then the oysters thy have amazing BBQ options, which are BBQ'ed right in front of the restaurant. Highly recommended !!!

Good bbq and deli place. Tasty burgers and tri-tip. Reasonably priced. The burger takes about 10 minutes because they bbq on the spot when the order is placed. Yummy potato salad.

Even though this is my first check-in, I went to this business when they were located in Cotati. I love getting a roast beef sandwich with only cheddar cheese and mayo. I know there other food is great but i am addicted to this. I enjoy the area around the place. When I look outside, I feel like I want to do a picnic.

Big fan of Lombardi's based on first visit. BBQ joint mixed in with a convenience store. BBQ pulled pork sandwich with a PBR 24oz! Perfect! Seriously, can't wait for when the weather is nice and sampling all they have and it looks like quite a bit!

Moved to town about 1.5 years ago, and I've been here more than any single other place in Petaluma. If you are VERY specific about what you do want on your sammie, they will get it right 70% of the time. They are busy, and have a lot of shtuff going on. If you order in person, and are very specific you should be fine. If they make it correctly, the food is great. I get grilled chicken breast sammie, no sauce, and made like cold deli syle- pickles, lettuce, tomato cheese.

Very tasty BBQ in Petaluma. And you know the portions are big and protein filled from the number of work trucks that are always rotating through the parking lot...

My wife and I live in San Francisco and love our weekends in the city, but every now and then we get a hankering for smoked meat BBQ! A few weeks ago we felt this way after our son's soccer game in GG park. We headed straight up to Petaluma and endured heavy traffic along the way. But nothing deterred us from Lombardi's and if anything the wait made us salivate more for their Tri-tip and pulled pork sandwiches. Unlike fog city Petaluma was hot and sunny and we sat out on the lawn of Lombardi's to eat our lunch. I'll be honest, when I think of BBQ I now associate it exclusively with their easy going delicatessen. I also appreciate their wide selection of beverages, including ginger beer and other non-alcoholic drinks our family loves. Friendly and courteous staff. You can tell they enjoy working there.

I've driven by Lombardi's for years on my way to the Petaluma outlets. I finally stopped by and boy am I kicking myself for not coming sooner. There were so many choices on the menu that I couldn't decide. I decided on the baby back ribs, BBQ tri tip sandwich and red potato with bacon salad. The staff is really nice and not to mention fast. My food was ready by the time I got to the register! I think my favorite was the try tip sandwich. The ribs were good, but I wished they were served hot rather than warm.

I had one of their crazy sandwiches. I cant remember the name...i think it was Jacks something. It wasn't a bad sandwich. The meat was tender the bread was good but the amount of horse radish was just too much for me. It tastes fine but as you continue to eat the sandwich you grow tired of the horse radish taste....its quite overwhelming. Also the sandwich is huge!!! Kinda sloppy if u don't eat it quickly. Not saying it was bad......just not for me i suppose.

Stopped in on a whim because they had BBQ Oysters. (Didn't get any thought as they only have them on Fri Sat Sun) We love BBQ joints and this did not disappoint. My wife and I shared a full slab of beef ribs and a half chicken plus a large beans and a large greek salad. My only beef was the chicken. A bit too small and nothing special. Beef ribs were great. They put the sauce on the side so you can do it your way. BBQ beans were really good. Simple but elegant. The choice of specialty beers and root beers and orange sodas was amazing. It's kind of expensive but so are all BBQ places. We'll go back for sure next time in town.

If you're driving through Petaluma for the day and craving a delicious slab of meat saturated in zessssssty BBQ sauce this is the place.. anything from ribs, chicken, a gourmet sandwich, or other delicacies. Everything on the menu.. or nearly everything is under $10... If the prices don't reel ya in.. then the sweet smell from the flaming BBQ will.. you can get a whiff of this place from a mile away. It'll take your taste buds on a ride... it's Orgasmic!!!!

The first time I went here I got the pulled pork. I love pulled pork but the pork here is overly spicy and has no sweetness to it. I went again yesterday and stuck to what I thought would be a safe bet with the chicken Caesar salad. It gave me food poisoning and I've spent all last night and this morning regretting the decision. Safe to say I will not be going back

One of my most favorite deli's! Bread rolls are fresh and soft. Top Quality meats and produce bursting w/ flavor! Backyard BBQ style! Perfect place to grab fancy picnic items and snacks! And they sell local beers and wines! 5 stars!

  • Jeff W.

I know a family member from this place as she was a former co worker of mine. Sometimes we used the deli to cater on weekend programs when the onsite cafe wasn't available, and to be honest it was a pretty good sandwich. I'd say 4/5, but it lacked that little something extra to be a mouth dropper. That is until i stopped by the BBQ location after a 60+ mile bike ride, and found that on the menu they offer traditional style deli sandwiches with meats hot off the bbq. Naturally being the hungry carnivore of a human that i consider myself, i tried a brisket sandwich..... WOW, that was it! GO here, try it, if you don't like it you either A: order poorly B: dont like food

Stopped by for a quick bite based on a friends recommendation. I had the tri tip with sauce, hubby had the cheeseburger . Both were excellent. Tried the Asiago pasta salad and the Yukon gold potato salad. Both were great. I preferred the pasta, hubby liked the potato. We drive through Petaluma on a regular basis and I know this is going to become a regular stop. Service was fast friendly and food was accurately prepared to our specification and delicious .

This place was recommeded by a local & it didnt disappoint. There is limited seating on the front covered porch area, but it affords a great view of the smokers in action. I had the #10 (pulled pork); the size of the sandwich was not as large as I would have liked, but otherwise no complaints.

Lombardi's is a great barbeque spot, and it's quite apparent from when you drive up. The front is lined with large oil-drum barbeques, and you often have to walk through a wall of smoke just to get inside. Inside its a pretty typical deli market, with plenty of barbequed meats. They also have a good selection of obscure root beers and other sodas, a great compliment for any meal there. My girlfriend swears by the BBQ chicken sandwich, and I always rotate through the menu. Although it's only around 45 minutes away from San Francisco, Petaluma has that country essence, which is probably why the bbq is much better than anything nearer to the city. This time we came with a bunch of friends, and since it was my birthday I decided to give the burger another shot. It had been awhile and I couldn't remember what I thought about it. They have one burger, a BBQ cheeseburger with pepper-jack and a side of potato salad, for $7.99. The kicker for this burger is it comes on a soft and crusty Dutch Crunch roll. The bun can make or break a burger, and the crunch elevated this burger. My burger was real simple; meat, cheese, and bbq sauce. The cheese was melted to absolute perfection, and a long strand stayed attached to the paper, a la in-n-out. This is a real pepper-jack, where you can see and taste the peppers. It's not too spicy, but combined with the sweet bbq sauce it's a winning combo. The flavors aren't too strong and it is not going to blow you away, but it is a simple and delicious burger made by guys who know how to run a barbecue. This is a burger I will definitely look forward to eating again. -Burger and Destroy

We were coming down from Windsor on our way to the outlets and I saw smoke coming out of the house from the car and saw "BBQ" so I automatically got excited. After we were done with our shopping, I dragged 4 + the boy to eat here for lunch. We parked and saw about 3 huge smokers/grills up front and I figured that it they had such a thing, they must be good. (I got excited also b/c I've been deprived of such BBQ method - I only see it at the Food Network!) We all thought that it was a sit-down place but it's not. It's a deli and so we got there (late-lunch crowd) so the line was a bit long. The boy and I shared the full rack of the baby back ribs and a side of beans and chips. The rest of the group had sandwiches. We sat down inside and started our grubs! The boy and I were surprised that the ribs had dry rub. It was a first for the both of us. It was good but I guess we're used to the wet. The meat was juicy and the beans were really good! Just had enough sweetness in it and I just wished they had cornbread on the side. Oh and their BBQ sauce was good too! Overall, our lunch was good (it was a bit pricey said the boy...) but it was a good find. Perhaps next time I'm around the North Bay and craving for some good old dry rub BBQ....this is the stop.

I've driven by this place dozens of times and finally went there. My kid seemed to like the pulled pork sandwich but the beef ribs ribs were incredibly bad and undercooked which is about the worst thing you can do to ribs. If this was my place those ribs would have never left the building. The cole slaw was absolutely tasteless and the garlic mashed potatoes-well it serves me right for thinking you can get mashed potatoes to go- were also bad. There's no chance I'll try this place again...at least not with MY MONEY.

You don't come here for atmosphere or a dining experience. You come here to stuff your face with the hands down best BBQ in Sonoma county!!!! Pulled Pork? Outstanding! Tri-tips? Amazing! Ribs? Delicious!!!! Great pasta salads, Olive salads and deviled eggs too! The food deserves 10 stars!!!!!!

As Deli's go, this one is the real deal. BBQ'd Tri-tip with horse radish, onion, tomato on a french roll? Heaven. The staff is always friendly and the food is consistently good. I recommend Lombardi's to EVERYone.

I think my review will be sort of useless because I ordered the veggie sandwich but it was very good. Cream cheese, sundried tomatoes, cucumbers, tomato, lettuce, sprouts and onions. But I asked for without onions because they are a vile weed. I just wanted to write this so if you're a veg. And your carnivore friend suggests this place, YOU CAN EAT HERE! Yay! :) This place can get busy so bring your patience.

Great little place! We found this by accident as we were taking the side street to the outlets. The sandwiches are very large and easy to share. As another reviewer mentioned, it is more of a deli than a restaurant but we weren't expecting a sit down restaurant anyway. The staff is very nice and helpful and we really enjoyed sitting outside at one of the picnic tables soaking in the beautiful weather.

The oysters here are to die for! My hubby absolutely LOVES oysters and the ones here are HUGE and tasty. They have 2 special sauces (one's a BBG) and you have to cut it in half or quarter portions to eat it on your plate. Jut thinking about them now makes my mouth water... BTW, their sandwiches are always fresh as well. I always try to stop here for lunch whenever I shop at the Petaluma Outlet.

I do not know what people in California are thinkin?! This place is not BBQ. The smell is VERY deceiving. Ribs are dry, cold, microwaved like others have stated. Chicken is dry as well. This place relies on sauce just like every place in the Bay Area I have gone to, and it's not even that great of a sauce. BubbaQues has better ribs for Petaluma. The people behind counter was friendly, patient, and helpful. If Californians want real BBQ, go to the Southern states.

BBQ Oysters when it's their time, delicious big BBQ sandwiches and burgers made properly (a little messy, with pickle on the side), cold case sides like creamy pasta and potato salads, and good selection of drinks. Take it away for a picnic, eat on the porch or in the funny little dining area inside. Kinda love this place.

The pulled pork sandwich is amazing. Has a spicy kick. Killer joes is my favorite sandwich, but do not get if you don't like horseradish! They put bbq tri tip, horseradish cheddar with more horseradish and finish it off with mayo and tomatoes. very messy and I usually save half for later....even better cold! Also, if you haven't tried their burgers yet you are missing out! They are big and delicious and messy! Sooooo good! There's always a wait during lunch, so call in ahead of time so u don't have to.

Interesting little bbq joint... it isn't made up of the soul food BBQ I am used to but rather white guy texan. this being on the side of the road outside of town, with the smoke wafting off to the street, smokers lining the outside of the joint walks into what looks like a deli with some chairs. This place is nothing but its food... which is good, not great but serviceable inexpensive BBQ good sides..I will stop here again. mostly because it is inexpensive smoky meat.

My gf brought me here to indulge in the meat orgy provided by the beef gods! Just by the look of this place I knew it's going to be delicious. I'm referring to the 5 BBQ smokers they have out in front! I ordered the Killer Joe's and my gf got the Lee's Special, and you can't go wrong w/a sandwich that has a 1/2 pound of tri-tip and costs $7.99! The bread was soft and fresh, the meat was almost completely void of any fat and uber juicy, and the horseradish and cheese was thick and creamy. I must say the it was the... best... sandwich... EVER!!! Now I'm going to be hard pressed even trying to eat sandwiches anymore. Dammit! The beef gods answered my supplications and delivered upon their promises! I shall continue to be a devout worshipper and make my pilgrimages to the temple of Lombardi's. Don't forget to pay homage to the feline temple guardian BBQ, the beef gods may reward you with kindness.

So on the way to the Petaluma outlets, you'll see this grassy knoll with an A board sign saying "BBQ OYSTERS". That was enough to catch my attention. There were other signs, but the other signs did not have nearly the same impact as the bbq oysters sign. if I saw bbq ribs, yeah, everywhere serves bbq ribs, so it would catch my attention, but I'm not as likely to walk in. but OYSTERS? You have to be darn good decent if you're going to be advertizing oysters like that. Beyond the sign you'll see a large wooden house looking building, with 5 or so smokers out in the front, with a private parking lot with 8 or so cars... What a sight for sore eyes, for those who have been eating mediocre bbq in the city. So 9 hungry twenty somethings are ready to tear it up in this joint, and I'm ready for my bbq oysters. When I come in, somehow I'm derailed by all the magnificent quantities and choices: The clear refrigerator door with tons of macaroni and potato salad in ready to go packs, the various bottles of drinks as far as the eye can see, and the deli counter with pulled pork, tri tip, pork ribs, chicken, etc. it was glorious. Everyone was walking in and standing in line already knowing what they wanted. SUPER friendly lady was taking orders and handing out an order receipt to keep the orders coming and everyone filing through the line efficiently. She sensed we were newbies, and helped us FOCUS.... Whats the best sandwich? Do I want tri tip? Do I want pulled pork? Ribs? (she very confidently said they're tri tip is the most popular seller, handed me a nice hearty sample). But we have 9 ppl? Do we want to share b/c we're greedy and want to try everything? what do I do? What!!! Solution: they have family meals. It feeds 4 ppl for under $20. (I think it was like $18.99 for the tri tip dinner, and like $15.99 for the chicken dinner or something, comes with beans and salad) "wait, do you mean $20 a person?" "oh god no.... $20 for 4" ... wow we've been paying for overpriced bbq in the city for too long. 9 of us ate like KINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We ordered 3 dinners. (2 tri tip and 1 chicken dinner) throw in some drinks and a loaf of bread, each person paid about $7 each. The tri-tip: nice a juicy, served med rare to medium. Served with bbq sauce on the side. Personally, I've had better tri-tip, it wasn't served piping hot, and was a little bland without the bbq sauce. But the bbq sauce itself wasn't my favorite either. But there is HUGE potential here. The chicken: best chicken ever. (see below) The salad: HUGE proportions. We were so focused on the beans and meat we barely touched the salad, but they are very generous in their servings and dressing in separate containers The beans: some people were HUGE fans of the beans. I wasn't hugely impressed, but they def were not bad... and gosh, for that price, we almost felt guilty that they were giving us so much food. The oysters: served piping hot off the grill swimming in their own juices, the smell takes you to a special place.... good selling points: + outdoor seating, and indoor seating, great for families and groups. There's a tv for the indoor seating. + many sandwiches to choose from, but you can pick what you like too. + tons of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks available + tons of parking + quick turn around + self serve forks, knives, spoons napkins, hot sauce + bathrooms weren't nasty, b/c after eating here, you def want to wash your hands. + friendly service + great prices My favorites: + you can order half and half for the 6 oysters. I would HIGHLY recommend the basil oysters and the butter ones. I recommend against the bbq oysters only because I like tasting the oyster, not just oyster textured bbq sauce. The bbq sauce ain't all that. I tried the basil... SOOOOOOOOOOOO heavenly. I wish I got the butter one instead of the bbq one. They only sell bbq oysters on the weekends. So you know that they're pretty fresh, prepared nicely, no GRIT AT ALL. They won't just sell oysters any ol' day of the week. + the chicken. SOOOOOOOOO the skin was SOOOOOOOO flavorful. The meat (dark and white meat) was SOOOOOOOO juicy and tasted just like the skin, nice Smokey undertones in the flavor. WHOLE chicken served up piping hot from the grill. Will there be a next time?: heck yes there will be. And I will try the ribs and the pulled pork and the butter oysters. droooooooooooooool.... this place is magnificent. the outlets? not so much.

We stopped because of the sign advertising BBQ Oysters. Plus, the smoke from the smoker smelled fantastic. They have a huge BBQ set-up out front, and it was very pleasant to eat at the picnic tables and watch the guy Q"ing up the food. I don't know what other yelpers are talking about when the say the staff isn't friendly. We had nothing but great service with smiles all around. The food: delicious. My hubby had the Tommy's sandwich with pulled pork & I had Killer Joe's with tri-tip. Both were really yummy and not so large that we couldn't eat the whole thing. We also ordered a dozen of the oysters - half with garlic & half with BBQ sauce. They were fantastic, as expected. We totally stuffed ourselves. In fact, we could've done with only 6 oysters, but somehow we managed to eat them all! If we find ourselves in Petaluma again with a hankering for BBQ, then we'll certainly be back.

The staff here NEVER smiles, and my theory is because all the love goes into the amazing sandwiches. So, keep it up, staff. Yes, the sandwiches are pretty amazing, and there is a pretty sizable selection of deli meats and drinks. But... the sandwiches. THE SANDWICHES.

We were on our way to Bodega Bay for a getaway weekend. We decided to go through Petaluma because we wanted to checkout the outlet. But before taking off on our trip we had to research all the delicious food along the way. Lombardi made it on our list of places to stop. This was the best decision ever. Hands down best bbq joint I've been to. While driving into the parking lot I got a wif of the delicious smell of the grilled chicken. I couldn't wait to get my hands on their food! When we walked in we were surprised there was a good amount of people, from the outside it didn't look too crowded. We saw people ordering bags and bags of food. Prior to coming we knew we wanted the tri tip sandwich. We wanted to get the grilled chicken but we already had a cooler filled with food, so we said next time. Wow...the trip tip sandwich was amazing. The meat was tender, the bread was delicious, and the bbq sauce was perfect. I am not a fan of bbq sauce because I think it's always too tangy, too sweet, or just too much of something and I just prefer not to mix my food with bbq sauce. But this sauce was amazing, it was truly the most perfect sauce for my palate. I wanted to dip everything into that sauce. We were pretty disappointed that we didn't get the chicken...but a month later we made a trip to north bay and made it a priority to get the grilled chicken and trip tip sandwich. We also asked for an extra bbq sauce to go. I went home and literally dipped everything into that sauce, sandwiches, pizzas, and chicken. The grilled chicken here was also delicious, meat was falling off the bone good. Mmm Mmm good!

I came in at about 2:45 and ordered a sandwich. It wasn't too busy and I got my sandwich in a decent amount of time waiting and it was great service. But what got me was that the sandwich that I ate was absolutely delicious. Mi watched this young man Cody put effort into making my sandwich. He was cautious but quick. Put together my sandwich perfectly. It wasn't too sloppy but at the same time it wasn't the least bit dry. It was an all around perfect sandwich and I WILL be coming back for more

Since when do you have a caesar salad with NO croutons? That was the case when I had one earlier. I ordered a large chicken caesar salad which was about a lb. of lettuce, a bunch of shredded cheese and 2 thin, long slices of bbq breast, not chunks. 3 simple ingredients for how much???

I grew up in Texas so inundated with the many variations of barbecues that I grew sick of the whole concept... until NOW. Today I had the most delicious tri-tip sandwich that almost made me weep. In addition a nice slaw that hit the spot. A large tumbler of ice tea. This deli has a new fan!

  • James W.

Very good BBQ mostly made right on-site, in front of patrons. I have had the tri-tip, which was good, and the cold smoked salmon, which was actually a bit better. Oh, and the oysters are fairly delectable, also. Friends have had the chicken, sausage, and rack of ribs, all of which received great exclaim. It's a fun place to stop, and a good one to eat at. They also have a wide selection of drinks (water/beer/etc) to choose from. The smokers and q's are right out front, which lends to the overall aroma/ambience of things. One small issue is that the staff is constantly moving in and out through the ordering line, and sometimes a bit brusque about it. Another is that during both of our visits there was not enough seating; they could expand the covered patio seating and likely still not have an empty table during meal times. If you don't mind dealing with the funky line for a few minutes, having to keep an eye out for and snatch grab a table, and want some great BBQ, definitely stop by!

Since I am a bit of a Pittmaster myself, good BBQ places are hard to find. This place smelled promising, and while it wasn't great, it was good. I think it would be better with my own sauce, as opposed to whatever they use, but it was decent bbq for the masses.

We drove up here last night on the recomendation of a friend who likes the burgers. Over all the food was ok, not mindblowing. The attitude of the people working there was... It was too cold to sit outside so we grabbed a table in the back. There was a swarm of fly's buzzing over the tables where we sat down. The sign on the door said they closed at 8, we got there at 7:25 and it was obvious that the staff was packing up the kitchen/Deli counter. While we were eating, one of the employees started stacking up all of the chairs at the tables around us. He then mopped the floor that surounded us...I almost had to pick up my feet, while he mopped under out table! When I finally had to say, "Do you mind, we're trying to eat here, and you're mopping the floor?". He responed by saying, "I'm not mopping, I'm sweeping". The Gal behind the counter later came up, while we were still eating (7:55pm) and said, "We close at 8". I asked, if that meant they stop serving at 8 or they lock the doors and go home at 8? She told me to take it any way I wanted. Needless to say we walked out and will never go back....

Checked this place out bc of the yelp reviews. Ordered beef & pork ribs, they were just "OK" I guess they're more great at sandwiches which was an oversight on my end. Meat on both ribs were tuff but then again they are not known for fall off the bone meat. Customer service was just alright, looked like everyone just wanted to go home & not b there.

I've been a big fan of Lombardi's for many years. Hell I've even used their catering services a couple times. While their food is still da bomb I saw something today at lunch that turned my stomach. As anybody who goes here knows, you walk by the BBQ's as you go to the front door. Granted, BBQing isn't exactly the cleanest form of preparing food but they've always seemed to have a pretty good system down. The pits face the parking lot and directly behind them are work tables with large covered roasting pans to hold the cooked meats before they go into the restaurant. Today as I walked past the pits, one of the cooks had a large flat of cooked chicken breasts sitting on top of a really filthy garbage can. These garbage cans have been sitting around the BBQ pits for years and they are very dirty and very greasy. Flies and yellow jackets are buzzing around the cooked meat and there simply isn't any reason I can fathom why this meat wasn't in one of the clean containers just a couple feet away before going into the kitchen. So I arrive exactly at noon and the place is pretty busy. I order and get my sandwich and walk out about 10 minutes later. Not only is the tray of chicken still on the garbage can, but the cook is cleaning the grill and pulling the grill waste onto the cooked chicken. I was so amazed at what my eyes were seeing that I stopped and took a picture with my cell phone. I've added the picture to the Yelp Lombardi's main page so you can see it there, at least until they have it taken off. Fortunately I don't normally eat the BBQ'd meats from there and opt for the sliced deli meat sandwiches. After reading a couple recent reviews one of which complains about the employees making sadwiches without gloves, I have to think that management is slipping a bit here and should take some drastic action to clean up their act before somebody calls the health department. UPDATE 7/10/13: Scott from Lombardi's responded to my review and I greatly appreciate it. Scott, I'm sorry for the public "outing" but most reviews are taken with a grain of salt unless there is a picture of a problem, and I'm glad you recognized how important the image of an establishment can be, and I'm very happy to see you want to take steps to improve that image. For that reason I am increasing my rating to 3 stars for now and will re-evaluate Lombardi's again on future visits. As I stated, I really like the place so I want them to continue to succeed.

Absolutely fantastic BBQ. Got the #7 and a 1/2 rack of baby backs for the two of us to share, we're both full and happy! The staff was super friendly and helpful when I asked for suggestions. We are from Pittsburgh and found this place through Yelp. Once again, we weren't disappointed by the many good reviews.

We went to a wedding where they used Lombardis Catering services of Lombardi';s BBQ- so critiquing this as a guest at a wedding. The food was very good - we had excelent tri-tip (one of the beat we've had in a while), chicken, ravioli, rice pilaf, salad, rolls and bread.. All were tasty. Before dinner, there was also a cheese appetizer station. All in all, presentation was nice and the buffet service was good. I cannot comment on how easy to deal with as I was a guest, but as someone who got to enjoy the food at a wedding, I am a pleased guest of the bride and the groom with their choice. They seemed to know what to do and when at the wedding - i,.e. no one had to check up on them, so their work from that perspective is excellent.

Came here for the tri tip sandwich with my boyfriend based on all the Yelp reviews. The BBQ sauce was amazing (and coming from someone who doesn't normally like BBQ sauce, that is a compliment!) I got a smirk from the employee when I asked for avocado with the sandwich, but trust me, if you love avocado as much as I do, it'll be an even better sandwich. We will be back again when we're in town!

Recommended by a local and this was certainly the best BBQ I've had in quite a while. I've had poor luck with tri-tip and theirs was primo. Flavorful, and they give you a lot of food for the price. I am definitely coming back here on my next trip to Petaluma. Unfortunately, we made the mistake of going to the Outlets after this place... a big let-down... I'll live at Lombardi's instead. :-D

We are using Lombardi's Catering for our wedding this year and had an informal tasting with Scott yesterday. I can't begin to explain how excited I am that they will be our caterers and I think people will be blown away by the menu options at the wedding. The taste testing was absolutely delicious!!! We have been working with Scott over the phone/email since we started looking for caterers and he has been extremely helpful and accommodating. When we asked for a tasting on a specific day, he mentioned that the chef was out and if we would mind an informal tasting on that day, he was happy to arrange it. When we walked in, he had the table set nicely and the presentation and food was fantastic!! To me it seemed like a formal tasting and I can't wait for our guests to be amazed by the appetizers and dinner at the wedding. Thank you to Scott and team for accommodating the day we wanted to taste test, for your great customer service, and quality of food. I'm truly happy we went with Lombardi's Catering!

I can't speak for the other dishes/sandwiches, but I love the #14. Stuffing, cranberry sauce, mayo and smoked turkey. It's basically Thanksgiving on a roll! Mmm! I tried it the first time here, and get only that every time I visit. I feel like I can get other things where I live, and why change a good thing? My friend/roommate got ribs and another kind of sandwich, she liked mine better and now gets that every time as well. The ribs were okay, but I've never been a big fan of ribs. Coming from Rohnert Park when I visit Sonoma, a good tip would be to call ahead when ready to leave. By the time I get there anyway, it's just about ready. Price is reasonable/average, though it always sucks to pay more than $6-7 for a freaking sandwich nowadays. Meat is usually piled on though. If you get the #14, get it on the soft roll. Dutch crunch is usually my go-to, but it doesn't work for this sandwich.

I am only rating their catering service and wish I could give no stars. I emailing catering for pricing for my wedding. At first the response was good, but when I told them my budget they back off. I asked for recommendations on something within my budget and the response was rude. I decided to increase my food budget, emailed catering and never heard form them again.....bad customer service!!!

I worked at the Kinko's in Petaluma for a stretch, and we used to make the sandwich tags for Lombardi's (and probably still do). We printed them on two-part NCR, basically carbon paper, the kind with the yellow backing you can tear off and give to people as a receipt. Their orders are always for 1000 sheets of their tags, printed nine on a page, and cut accordingly. They placed their order over the phone, and we usually had the tags pre-made and ready to go for them, since they usually needed the order ASAP, and about once every week. In case you missed it, I'll repeat myself for emphasis: they usually needed their orders ASAP, about once every week. For the mathematically challenged, Lombardi's serves up OVER NINE THOUSAND sandwiches on any given week. If that is not a convincing enough reason to sample their wares, then you totally missed the reference. I recommend the pulled pork sandwich. You just can't go wrong. It's pulled. It's pork. In sandwich-form. The only thing you can mess up when you have it for lunch, is dinner.

It was like a sandwich roller coaster! From the outside it looked like nothing special, but once you strap yourself in and walk through the door you are hit with the high of a deli case filled full of amazing looking meats, cheeses, and traditional sandwich accompaniments. Hands in the air - wheeee!!! From there on out it is up to you to whether you have a thrilling sandwich ride or a vomit inducing mess on your hands. I was not responsible and ended up pulling out all of the vegetables in my sandwich, scraping off some sauce, and trying to eat a very slippery turkey and avocado mush sandwich. The bbq chicken sandwich did not fall prey to the same fate and ended up being an amazingly delicious "kick ass" sandwich. I'm not sure that I would go out of my way to come here, but wouldn't be opposed to stopping in again if someone wanted a "kick ass" sandwich.

I was introduced to this lovely place by a friend, and the first thing he recommended were the BBQ oysters (coz i like eating oysters), and the potato salad. Let me say, that this is one of the many reasons i would probably drive out there on my own. I love the BBQ oysters THAT much. He had asked me how many oysters I could eat, and i was imagining the small little ones, and he said, "no, these oysters are huge." So i told him, "i could eat six." He ordered himself, half a dozen for himself ....then we got the platter and i opened it up to find huge oysters. they had to be at least 3 inches in length! Anyway, best damn things i've ever eaten and i don't know anywhere else in the City where they can BBQ it that well. Potato salad - the best! i love the tartness the potato salad has. Tri-tip sandwich - oh man, i love it too. It's freakin' delicious As you can tell though, I am more of a fan for the oysters. So if you like some delicious seafood (aka oysters) and plan on shopping at the outlets close by, you have to check out this spot. it's cute, too. =)

The first visit, just got some straight BBQ. Not too impressed but the second time got me some sandwich action. It was messy and great.

I flippin love this deli. they make some good things. I love the bbq chicken sammich, but would also love any other sammich. i love the potato salad. i love the drink selection. i love that they ALWAYS have something on the BBQ and it smells so tasty. I don't love: -that there is no real place to stand and wait while you order and if it's busy it gets a little crowdy...i don't like crowdy. -the young girls that work there can be snotty and not good at being sandwich slaves Pretty much anytime I go there I want a sammich. I want one now, but gas is to expensive to drive to Petaluma just for a sammi...and I just ate some chili.

This place rocks. I am a whore for BBQ. I LOVE IT. Like I said in my review for Phil's BBQ, 'I am the type of girl who orders ribs on a first date.' The BBQ sauce here is delicious. This is the 'far-away' place my work lunch crew goes to. Once I got a fresh crab sandwich. That was delicious! They sell fresh crab when it's in season and it's absolutely delicious. I typically get a Tri-Tip Sandwich, slathered in BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, and raw red onions. But everything they have is good. It's kinda confusing when there's a line but here's how it works. -Walk in (breathe in the BBQ smell and realize there's no sticking to a diet here) - Get your drink/ other items - Stand at the far end (away from the door) of the counter and they'll take your order. - Pay - Get napkins. Then grab twice as many as you just grabbed cause you'll need them. Trust me on this one. - Your order will be called, grab it (to go or eat in). This place will make you crave BBQ for a week following so come here prepared.

We came here on a Saturday afternoon. It was very crowded with a long line, but it moved so fast! The four of us each ordered a different BBQ sandwich. I like that they put mayo on the sandwich because most places would never do that. The bread is fresh and soft and the sauce is dripping. They also have many choices on the menu, which makes me want to come back. The only thing I don't like is the drink selection. I like soda and they only offered RC cola... or a pepsi.

This place is the best BBQ/Gourmet Deli in Petaluma! I started working in Petaluma a couple years ago and this is one of my most frequent stops. The prices are fair, the staff is friendly and always smiling and the food is awesome! My favorite is the Killer Joe's! That with a side of some Hooker's potato salad and any plethora of drinks and the rest of my day will be wonderful! Stop on by and you will not be disappointed!

I can't believe that I haven't discovered this place years ago! We stopped here after a long day at the beach. I loved their bbq chicken. It had just the perfect bbq taste that you'd get if you took the time to bbq yourself. I am looking forward to our next visit. I can't wait to try their bbq chicken sandwich. The couple ahead of us both got it and tells us that it was the best sandwich they've ever had.

Got the pulled-pork sandwiches take-away one night for dinner for myself and the bf. So good! I got the pulled pork sandos (which are huge!), baked beans, coleslaw, and potato salad (with bacon!!) all for under $25. We were both really pleased with the pulled pork - great taste and texture. The coleslaw was everything u want coleslaw to be (and the bf is picky about his coleslaw!) - crunchy, creamy and not too much of "the purple stuff". Baked beans were OK in my book (we didn't lick the plate), and I actually wasn't as big a fan of the potato salad as I expected (I got a small container and we had half left) - it was actually more like I chunky mashed potato with bacon and scallions in it. (not quite enough mainaise). For us, this is a definite do-again! :) I'm a foodie, and he's a boy with a good palate. We were both really happy (and stuffed!) from our sandwiches.

Spent about $80.00 (including tip) for some ribs and chicken, plus extra sides. (Should have been enough for around 10+ people). When we asked the flunkie behind the counter for 11 paper plates, she unwillingly gave us about 3 plates. I asked for 11 again, and she huffed/puffed and reluctantly gave us a couple more. To top it off, the food was cold and just OK. Do not waste your money at this establishment, especially if you want good service.

Wish I could give a better review, because this place has great potential and I used to like going there. Last few times I have stopped in for lunch I haven't been able to find anything I want to eat, and have left. Their selection of prepared foods is blahh. Their sandwiches are ok, but I am soooooo done with the standard cheese selection, standard condiments, standard veggies, its just lame. I need something more interesting.

This place does have a great Tri-Tip sandwich. The meat is moist, the roll (well.....rolls), and the sauce hits the spot. I have not been disappointed to date with this place.

We stopped in and got a couple of sandwiches and a small potato salad for dinner, the bbq chicken and the tri-tip sandwich with onions and peppers. So good! I also love how they are a one stop shop for picnics or just bringing lunch or dinner home. So many prepared salads (potato, pasta, bean, etc.), a huge selection of beverages, beer and wine included. Have wet wipes handy. If you eat any of the barbeque you will need them. Napkins just won't do it. I gotta knock off a star for sketchy service. Sometimes cordial, sometimes douchy. Just be aware.

I also had a bad experience with customer service. The cashier was slow; they should have two for when it gets busy. The sandwiches were ready way before I got through the line to pay; after picking up a drink and chips. After I left, I noticed that the cashier had charged me for two chips. The food was good, though.

Every time I'm up in Petaluma at the outlet mall I find it necessary to go to this place and order a set of BBQ pork ribs & a side of asparagus. This place isn't about the ambiance since most of the seating is out on a porch that wraps around the building while the inside has a handful of tables that are a step away from lawn furniture, instead this place is about tasty meat! I usually skip the sauce and simply stick with the tasty flavors of the rub they use though I won't deny the sauce is really really tasty but that just means I have to double up on wet naps, napkins and the time spent in the bathroom washing it all off. Needless to say, this isn't the kind of place you go for a nice proper meal where you get to show off your food etiquette skills. Nope, this place is about getting down & dirty with your food and hoping you won't need to get into conversation with a hot chick since you'll probably have meat wedged between your teeth. I just made myself hungry again

I had a taste for BBQ since last Sunday and i finally got the chance to get it today and boy it was worth the wait I am going to make it a point to get to Petaluma more often The prices were reasonable to 17.99 for Ribs, Baked Beans and Salad enough for 3 to four people They also have a great wine selection I got 2 bottles of wine and 2 sides of potato salad. Uhh it was not all for me I was feeding my dad and step mom So the total was 59.00 not bad at all... Actually I would take off one star cause the bbq sauce is to vinegary and I love vinegar so I did not use the sauce luckily we had some in the house The 5 star stays though because the people were super nice that worked there now that bbq with Everett and Jones sauce off the hook damn Im full

I contacted them on line, interested in an off site catering at a family home. The response was prompt and very helpful. I was planning a surprise birthday party for 50 and after speaking with Nancy we came up with a menu that I was very happy with. I went site unseen...or food untasted...but our birthday boy (65) and all of our guests LOVED the food...the highlights being the Caprese salad and baby back ribs. We provided 2 eight foot tables and everything was deliver and set up within 10 minutes...chafing dishes, baskets for breads, paper products, salads with dressing on the side....it was wonderful. I got to enjoy this happy day with my husband, friends and family. We thank you so much Nancy-you made a special day All the more special ... And we loved the food! There were lots of left overs that we nibbled on all evening! My husband insisted on returning the service ware for me just to have the opportunity to personally thank the staff, but mostly Nancy!

This is a cool place. Sort of funky but I like that. The barbeque chicken sandwich was unusual but delicious as was the pork ribs, cole slaw and beans. I will be going back. They have a lot of sandwich selections to choose from.

The only thing that works is the smell of the BBQ from the street, which you don't get off the grill. This is essentially a store/deli and not a comfortable place to eat the mediocre food that is served.

I agree with the person that says that Sonoma County BBQ is generally not very good. There's been some good places over the years, but they come and go. Lombardi's is very good BBQ. Their sandwiches are great for lunch and great ribs and chicken for dinner. I'd give them 4 stars if their side dishes were better. They are all cold and you have to heat them up to enjoy them and even at that, they aren't great. I'd give it 5 stars, except for 2 issues. It isn't great as a restaurant. It's much better as a take-out place and they don't have a spicy BBQ sauce. If they had an option for getting a spicy sauce, that would be awesome.

This is a regular spot for us and it is the real thing. Anytime someone goes to or past Petaluma it is a must to stop and get the baby back ribs - a whole rack - because ALL of us eat them, which is a rare thing. The sauce is tangy, a tiny bit spicy and addictive. We get extra and I just pour it on a plate and roll my ribs around in it and it is so good I even love it for breakfast the next day in the rare event one or two are left over. The salads are delish if a bit pricey - I prefer the orzo and feta one. My big kids like the chicken sandwiches. I have this as an alternative to Masa's sushi at my "take out dinner parties." There is nary a rib in site with any meat on its bones at the end of the night.

Great sandwiches, and great meal deals when you want to feed a family for bargain prices. Kickin Chicken is a winner, and any of the other BBQ sando's also rank high. I'm not a big fan of Mayo on a sando that also has BBQ sauce, so I order it without mayo. The staff is friendly, and really seems to take pride in doing it right. I live less than 2 miles from this place, and I've always liked every meal ive eaten here! The screamin' bargain is the Chicken or Tri-tip meal, you get a BBQ'd whole chicken( cut in half), or a Tri Tip, a tub of baked beans and a mixed green salad. Dressing and BBQ sauce come in little tubs along with it..it easily feeds 3-4 people! About $16 for cluck, about $19 for Moo. The meat is really good, especially the chicken, salad nice and fresh with a good dressing, beans simply okay! A personal suggestion that I've found I like.....take 1/2 of one of the tubs of BBQ sauce, mix it into the beans before you heat em up at home, adds a little zing. Honestly I will give them 4 stars for actual BBQ, but for value, attitude, and simply giving more of a damn than many primarily take out joints do these days, I give them the full 5. This city still has farming and ranching roots, particularly on the west side and northwest of town, I'm surrounded by chickens, cattle, sheep, horses....a good BBQ joint, run with a family feel fits right in here!

I wanted to love, love, love this place-- I'm a meaty sandwich fan...but it was just ok. The service was good and the place was tidy. I didn't really like the potato salad. I don't think I will return unless I'm starving and on that side of town.

Amazing sandwiches! Sides are great still well aboce average but the sandwiches are the best.! If you want some type of BBQ sandwich (burger, pork, chicken) this place is hard to beat. Great tri-tip sandwiches! No. Awesome sandwiches. Served with a pickle on the side. Well, one time it was and one time it wasn't. So... an A for the sandwich and a C for the inconsistent, not-so-friendly service from the counter.

Their BBQ sucks. I really wanted to like this place. I've tried their BBQ so many times. It looks impressive with all their Texas style smokers outside. But then end product is not at all enjoyable. I've tried their ribs maybe 6 times over the years and also their tri tip. I've watched them BBQ away sitting outside eating their sandwhiches (I'll talk about this in a second), they need some lessons:) One thing I notice is that they are not using their Texas smokers as they should, instead opting to "grill" their meats. The temperatures they use is too high! The meat comes out chewy and lots of the time over cook, only maybe a piece or two of the entire slab is tender. Also the quality of the meats they use is questionable. They don't even trim the meat properly before they put it in the smoker. Everything is wring about it!! Now I don't live in the area, but even the locals I know there tell me not to go there for the BBQ. I think I've only seen one other person eating their BBQ during lunch. If their BBQ is good, why aren't people ordering them????? I don't see people eating their BBQ? The tri-tip is just ok, nothing impressive. The sandwhiches on the other hand is pretty good, go there for the sandwhiches!! That's all I see people order. Pretty good! They have another location on the other side of town and all they do is sandwiches... pretty good.

Does anyone else find it strange that a BBQ joint would charge $.75 cents to put bbq chicken on a chicken club? Or to melt the cheese on your rueben. I've noticed strange little charges lately on how they sell me my sammies lately. Is there some weird sandwich shop tax I am not aware of. They actually told us they charge for there time at the bbq making the chicken for the chicken club at a bbq joint. Go figure

  • Kai T.

Um, delicious! That is all I have to say. Though I am not a huge tri tip person, my friend talked me into it and i have no regrets. Holy O! what is the equivalent to "This is so good I want to bathe in it" for a meaty sandwich? We also grabbed some mac salad and it was really good too. I would normally dock a star for lame service which this place had but I just cant bring myself to do it.

    (5)
  • Andrew L.

Thought the tri-tip sandwich was kind of mediocre. Meat was a little on the fatty side and the sauce kind of lacked 'zing'. Service was super nice, however, and their selection of root beers was mind boggling.

Here are some ways to rationalize going this far from SF to grab a deli sandwich: - Outlet shopping right next door - You have friends at Sonoma State you're visiting - It's only like 20 miles past visiting family in Marin and 80 miles from family in Lakeport - The sandwiches are so effing good you have to have one this second. Try the BBQ pork sandwich with garlic cheddar and create your own list for the next time.

They had a skirt steak sandwich on special a while back and it was so delicious that I keep coming back hoping they'll have it again. They haven't so I default to the 1/3 lb Tri Tip in sauce. It is fabulous!! Prices are good too, about $7 for the huge sandwich.

I've driven by that place countless times and never visited until now. I should have just kept on driving by. Nothing very special going on here. When I think BBQ, I think pork ribs. Picked up a full rack of ribs and some grilled asparagus and a couple deviled eggs. The asparagus was pretty good. The ribs however...........totally lacking. First off, the meat was rubbery and flavorless. I could see seasoning but I couldn't taste it. And what little flavor there was did not go well with pork. It's like they shook on some Mrs. Dash that's been sitting on a shelf for 10 years and called it good. There were hardly any grill marks or charring which leads me to believe they were oven baked and then thrown on a grill for a few minutes. That's probably why they were rubbery, high temp and short cooking time. That or they reheated them in a microwave. Either way, blah. The bbq sauce was nothing to write home about. It was good in the sense that it was bbq sauce colored and tasted like bbq sauce. Oh but there were chopped raw onions in it so that makes it "special". The deviled eggs just tasted like mayo. I mean seriously. It's not hard to make good deviled eggs. Yolks, scoop of mayo, dash of mustard, pepper, scoop of relish, done. I won't be back. Meh.

This place is yum! I had their bbq pulled pork sandwich and the bbq chicken sandwich. Their meat is cold and heated up, but it's a deli. What can you expect? I haven't tried the ribs but Im sure I will someday. There are also tables, but it feels weird to eat in a supermarket type place. The stuff can be pricey so I took a star off!

Pretty good place for a quick lunch. Lots of parking not a ton of seating; seating is outdoor. The sides are OK, the sandwiches and rest are better. Service is friendly and quick. Not the best BBQ but pretty good. Too much mayo on everything, I ask for less.

On our way to the Petaluma outlets for the first time, our attention was drawn to the smoke coming from five (yes five!) smokers and a big sign that says: BBQ OYSTERS. The five smokers out front were smoking like chimneys on a cold winter night! We told ourselves, we're eating there later! And so we did just that. There were plenty of parking spaces and passing by the smokers as we went in the place, you'll immediately observed that it's like a mom and pop convenient store with a few tables inside. Patio seating is also available. You give your order over the deli counter. The tri-tip sandwich with tomatoes, onions and mayo is their popular sandwich and it was really amazing! I could've ordered another one after I devoured mine's along with a half slab of baby back ribs and beef ribs that were tender, moist and finger-licking delicious, but we were just stuffed! Four stars beacuse their sides are in refrigerators in containers (although they can heat it up if you ask) and because they ran out of oysters (booo!). Before leaving, I asked the guy up front manning the smokers how come they don't have a sign, he replied by pointing at each smoker saying, "we have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 signs!" and I said, "hey, and they work wonderfully!" Definitely coming here again the next time we visit Petaluma.

This place is always slammed, and once you eat the food, you know why. No matter what they serve, it is all killer and no filler. The prices are reasonable, and the food is authentic. Highly recommended, best BBQ I've had in California.

I think I could honestly say that this is the best sandwich shop I've ever been to. The ambiance is horrific. They have disguised their wonderful sandwiches in a 7-11 style conenience store layout, which boggles my mind. Why don't they remove some of the extremely out of place groceries and put some tables and chairs? I don't know. But the sandwhiches: oh my god, the bread is so good, the meat is so perfect, the sauces are so tasty, everything-- and I mean everything, including the perfectly-textured white paper-- is exactly as it should be. Although its very expensive for lunch, sometimes costing almost 14 dollars for a drink and a sandwich. A note to Rachel B, who apparently has traveled all of the way to Petaluma to get a sandwhich: you are an insane woman.

The ribs were out of this world. The potato salad and BBQ beans were good, but it was all about the ribs for me. The bf got the tri-tip (drenched in their BBQ sauce) for himself and enjoyed it was well. What I didn't like was there "barbeque sauce." It was way to vinegary for me, so I had to use my own BBQ sauce. With a better BBQ sauce I'd give them 5 stars.

When I was in high school this place used to be only decent. A few (much) more recent trips have surprised the hell out of me. These guys make a damn good sandwich! Their BBQ sandwiches are great as are the ones that are more classic. If you find yourself in the nouveau-yuppie wasteland that is downtown Petaluma (minus a few choice bars), Lombardi's a go.

just down the road from my parents house, we've been coming here since they opened. that building has been so many things in my life but I'm very happy that it's finally just BBQ. so many times we've gotten sandwiches or full on catered meals for parties and it's always good. all the meat all the time. i think only once did i have some beef that was a little too tough and chewy. and like someone else posted below, their food is full of ZING! i love it. but I've been through the rest of the country so i know better BBQ exists, but this is the best in petaluma for sure.

  • Brittany S.

This place is a good deli, and their BBQ can be pretty good. We always get the ribs - which unfortunately lack a little bit of consistency in the quality, but when they are good, they're really good. My favorite sandwich is the chicken in sauce, and they have great potato salad and other sides. Not to mention its just a nice little place to sit on a warm day and have a nice lunch. A little pricey, but the meat is quality.

Yum Factor: 5 stars Cool Factor: 2 stars Tip Level: A few bucks Tipsy Level: 02% You'll Spend: $ Best dishes: Pulled Pork Sandwich, BBQ Baked Beans, Red Potato Salad As I write this review, I salavate at the thought of Tommy's Pulled Pork, #10, I think. Lombardi's smokes thier BBQ right there on Petaluma Blvd. While the BBQ ribs are pretty darn good, the Chicken special one of Petaluma's top take home deals and best tasting at that. The secret ingredient in the Red Potato Salad is bacon. Don't sit on the porch in front of the store unless you love inhaling smoke, despite having fans to blow it away. The line begins at the END of the deli and continues along the beer aisle. Don't cut!

Now I need to find an excuse to make the drive up to Lombardi's. Excellent sandwiches (tri tip!) and deli choices like potato salad (yum) all at reasonable prices. When you walk in you pass all the different smokers and grills...right in the front of the store.

I've never eaten one of their sandwiches. We love the RIBS. Anytime any of us from San Francisco is up that way, we take home a few SLABS of BBQ ribs. It tastes especially good while hot and we've polished off a slab on the ride home. I love the pork ribs... smoked... tender... yummmmmm.... but I don't care for the sauce. It's a little too watery and tangy for me.... I ordered the babyback ribs once and it wasn't as good as the regular pork ribs. In all the years we have been buying these ribs, only once they might have been a little overcooked b/c it was dry... Since we buy several slabs at $16.99 each... we stopped going for a few months... but we've been back 3 Xs since and each time we wished we bought more.

Mmm, mmm. Finger lickin' good. No joke. The food here is good. Grab a table out front with one of their barbeque rib sandwiches, a beer, and grub down while you watch them barbeque up some more ribs, and chicken, and corn, and you get the picture. Just bring a lot of napkins, the sandwiches get a bit messy.

  • Lila J.

We thought it was good...not super good, but you don't really have that many options in Petaluma. We had the #10 (pulled pork with cole slaw sandwich ) and the chicken sandwich. The #10 had A LOT of pork in it. I guess some people like that, but I think it would have tasted better if they had put more cole slaw in it. A lot of people come here for lunch so expect a long line.

I ordered a hot dog here and they rang me up and told me the hot dog was $4.99. O-mi-god I thought - that's the most expensive hot dog I've ever ordered in my life. Then I had to wait a while for it - what's the big deal with making a hot dog? I thought. When the hot dog arrived it was huge - literally a foot long and had been barbeque grilled - it had black sear stripes on it like you see in t.v. food commercials and it was smeared with secret sauce and onions and resting on a french bread type bun - baguette bun you could call it. I never knew hot dogs could be gourmet and too big to finish. I had them cut it in half. Yes - two people could eat well on one Lombardi's hot dog. DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!

OMFG! this place is sooo good.. they have about 5 grills sitting outside in front of the patio.. inside is basically a liquor store with a deli section.. you order there and bring the food outside. i ordered the tri-tip, horseradish and cheddar cheese sandwhich... sooo good, the best i've ever had! plus they have a wide selection of macaroni salads, orzo salads, potato salads... WINE!!! just thinking of it makes me drool =P

The absolute best pit stop! The best ribs I will ever want to eat!! Wine, beer, juice, salads, chips, candy - inside and outside seating. I never had to wait too long. They're pretty fast.

I try to keep my meat consumption to no more than 25% of my diet, but every time we drive by Lombardi's this rule goes straight into garbage can! Folks, the baby back ribs here are pretty good, the pork ribs are even better, and the tri-tips are even better better!! The baked bean, as a side, are very good, and the half chicken is nothing to sniffed at!! Here is what I'd do if I were you: 1) If you got there at lunch time either alone or with one or more companions, order half or full rack of ribs (depending on how many you are), get a couple of sides of beans, and whatever else that might grab your fancy. Take a bunch of napkins, and walk over to one of the picnic benches in the front lawn, eat as much as you can, and take the rest home! The ribs taste almost as good if you reheat them in a covered pan later with a sprinkle of water. Do not forget to take some extra BBQ sauce home with you! 2) If you get there with a full stomach, no worries! Order a whole tri-tip and take it home. Make yourself a good salad and cut a few tin slices of the tri-tip (a good glass of red wine won't hurt!) and have a feast! 3) If you are in between (not too full and not too hungry), and have taste for BBQ oysters (I like mine raw but hey who am I to judge you!) order some BBQ oysters, grab a beer, and have a feast outside! p.s. Their BBQ asparagus or portobello mushrooms won't disappoint you either!

The best sandwich spot. Always busy, but they are quick. Delicious BBQ sandwiches, try the chicken or pork in sauce.

Husband got the ribs and I got the tri tip sandwich. BBQ was not overly sweet and tangy enough. My sandwich needed more tri-tip I think. We love that they had a lot of root beer choices, took us a while to decide which one to get. Big parking space. Enough seating areas. The inside can get congested when crowded. Bought Cowgirl Creamery Mt. Tam cheese here because it was a lot cheaper than other places. I was happy!

We ordered over $50.00 of food. - Slab of pork ribs $19.99. - Tri-Tip $9.99/lb. - "Lee's Famous Garlic Bread" which is garlic cheese bread. $5.99/half loaf. - "Eddy's Pulled Pork Sandwich." $8.99 on a soft roll and includes cole slaw. - Baked beans $2.99 for small. - Peach cobbler (made at a third party off site bakery). PROS: - Pork ribs portion is very generous and priced fairly. - Tasty pork ribs. NOT smoky like they should be but tasty flavor. They were tender but need more smoke and flavor. - On a sunny day, the outdoor seating on the wrap around patio is very nice. Nice view of the hills. Nice landscaping, too. - Garlic cheese bread. Tasty. - Pulled pork sandwich was tasty. - I'm told the peach cobbler was tasty. CONS: -FIRST AND FOREMOST: STOP!, STOP!, STOP! MICROWAVING THE BBQ. STOP IT! STOP IT! STOP IT! - Tri-Tip ($9.99/lb.) It was reheated in the MICROWAVE!!! Not OK! The meat was grey, tough, lifeless, tasteless. The worst beef in my recollection. Thank God we only ordered 1/2 lb.! O.K. I just looked at the Lombardi's Yelp food photos. The Tri-Tip sandwich looks delicious. The sandwichTri-Tip is finely chopped and in a sauce so its probably juice and flavorful. Sadly, thats NOT what we ordered. We order Tri-Tip sliced which comes with sauce on the side and...dont forget...was microwaved. - BBQ oysters undercooked. More like RAW oysters on the half shell, which I hate. I only like cooked or smoked oysters. - They forgot the cole slaw on the "to go" pulled pork sandwich. Really, people? Really? SUMMARY: IF in the area (which is rare), I would buy the pulled pork sandwich and pork ribs. Other than that, pass!

I don't know that I fully understand this establishment. I've been to Lombardi's two or three times-- my wife and I won't write a review until we've been to a place at least twice. Well here it is. What confounds me is that they barbecue their meat, then put it in cold storage to be reheated in a microwave upon order. The problem here is that everyone knows what microwaved left-overs taste like. The meat here benefits from only having been made maybe a few hours before, but sure enough, it ends up tasting like left-overs. Tell me how I can get the meat fresh off the barbecue? That's what I want. Case in point, I had a half rack of beef ribs. The order comes with the sauce on the side, so I took the opportunity to try the meat plain before saucing it up. Sure enough, it had that left-over flatness in flavor and was merely tepid. Aside from other bbq places around here that cook things to order, I think back to a place in Philly that worked a bit like Lombardi's, but they kept the finished meats in hotplates. Everything tasted fresh, juicy, and hot. No microwaving necessary. I think Lombardi's needs to invest in some hotplates... I'm just not interested in buying left-over barbecue. My wife: "how many stars are you giving it?" Me: "2... because it's not terrible... it's just like I'm getting left-overs of something that was once maybe great."

I've never had a bad meal from Lombardi's. Even if you don't have anything to eat (you'd be crazy not to), the incredible smells from the barbecue out front draw you in. My favorite selections are the #14 Gobbler (roast turkey with stuffing & cranberry sauce on a soft roll), the bacon potato salad and barbecue beans. A must try!

Pull down the beautiful old redwood highway, roll down your window and let your nose lead you to one of the best BBQ joints there are. The true star tho is the gourmet selection of sandwiches!! Great sides, beer selection, ribs, chicken, and a pulled pork sandwich that is in my top 5!! Even at the busiest time and new employees training, we had our sandwiches in under 10 minutes. Clearly house made items and a delicious veggie sandwich, this place is always on our rout to stop at. Would love to see some veggie kabab items.

I live in SF but work in Petaluma. You simply cannot get good bbq like this in the big city, the city should take note;) Ok, on to the food and such. I usually call ahead for pick up, as I order for lunch, and have to get back to the office to tend to my busy schedule. When I call they are very friendly, helpful and quick. By the time I get to the place (about 10-15 minutes) the food is ready for me to pick up. I usually get their bbq salmon, which is amazing, alongside of their homemade mash potatoes and green salad. They are also very good too. This last run I picked up some of the deviled eggs in the cooler fridge before I picked up my order at the pick up counter, those were amazing too. Sometimes if I have some left over salmon left, I take it back to my friends in the city, and they are usually blown away on the goodness of it, and usually says "omg, that is amazing, you cannot find that here in the city, wow!". Yep, that good my yelper friends. On fri/sat/sun they do their bbq oysters. They have three flavors, I like them all, but my favorite is the garlic ones. I don't eat meat, but co-workers rav about the ribs. The founder one time order a massive order of them for the office, they were gone in minutes. Need I say more. Hop, skip...run, to this place! Enjoy!

Seriously trying to like them as we live so close but just can't so this review is based on several visits to eat in and take away. However you do it, the comments are much the same. We ordered a dinner and a half rack, for pickup, plus a few extras. The extras, like beans, are cold so hope you have a means to heat them up. Decent salad. The meat was cooked overs coals that had been topped up - not white heat - creating a sort of odd, coal like, taste as happens when you don't BBQ right and just create smoke as the coals light up. The chicken had that pre-chilled, then heated up certainty as the crispy skin that should have been was soggy and tasteless. With decent BBQ you expect more than grilled meats and cold sauces to pour over yourself - you expect, melt off the bone, smokey goodness - this isn't - they're just grilled and a bit tough to be honest. Being waste not, want not, sort of folk we microwaved the leftovers. Hmm, tasted just the same. Perhaps that tells you something? That said the deli itself is pretty good, just the BBQ isn't. Sorry Lombardi's - we're breaking up with you - it's us, not you...

Ok so over the past few days I have been educated on what good BBQ is and that not everyone makes their BBQ exactly the way you like it... This place does make amazing sandwiches and other meals, the ribs just weren't the way I like my ribs.. My family and friends love this place

Absolutely delicous gourmet deli with fresh bbq, right off the grill. I like my plain, no added sauce. Just like the flavor of the slightly charred ribs out of the smoker/grill outside. Can't think of too many places like it. The full rack we ordered was enough for lunch and leftovers provided two more meals that week. Half a rack would have been more than enough. The tables in the back need to be cleaned up a bit better after customers leave so that others can sit at I nice clean table. Met the cordon blue chef who shared his recipe for mushroom puree which is used as a spread on sandwiches. The grilled asparagus were nice and the coleslaw, phenomenal. The small salad enought to serve two. Very generous portions. You won't go away hungry! Just wish you did lamb chops!

I gave this place a shot again today. Couldn't resist after driving by and smelling the bbq. Sandwich was epic. Taste as good as you'd think when driving by. Being an early lunch there was no crowd this time. In and out quick and super friendly/helpful staff. Good ole small town deli. 5 stars for sure.

Can't get enough of this place, the sandwiches are so delicious! The sandwiches are huge and heavy and packed with delicious flavor. I get the #4 salmon sandwich and my date gets the #7 with bbq tritip and horseradish cheddar. Can be very busy but staff is quick! Inside dining area is often visited by the resident cat and TVs are tuned to sports channels. Large outer patio seating also provided and full on busy days. Drinks and sides are provided as more of a convenience store style grocery that you being to the register when you pick up your deli order. Staff is friendly and know their customers. It seemed like every other person was a regular who was greeted by name. Watch out or you might never eat anywhere else again!

Lombardi's did a great job catering our company BBQ (100+ people). The food was delicious and the gentleman that delivered/set up the food was professional, friendly and super helpful. If you are looking for a caterer for an event I would suggest them 100%! BBQ's, Weddings, anything! Thank you!

Lots of parking. The moment you walk up to the restaurant, you can see all the smokers. My boyfriend and I, ordered baby back pork ribs, salmon sandwich, and oysters. The first half of the rib rack was juicy, but the other half was cold. It seem as if they warm the rack of ribs in the microwave. So I took the ribs back to the front to have them heat it up again, only to end up waiting in a long line just to have my food warm back up. Now onto the salmon sandwich, which consist of salmon, lettuce, onions, mayonnaise, and tomatoes. Overall the food was good, well half of our bbq baby back pork ribs, salmon sandwich, and the oysters were delicious.

On a road trip over to Sonoma, I was telling the bf about how my life was over because the BBQ place I went to yesterday ran out of ribs... and short story short, I talked him into getting real hungry real fast. Thank goodness for Yelp and Lombardis being in the right place at the right time! Its a market style BBQ, which has the smokers emitting enticing smells outside and a deli set up on the inside. Lined up with hundreds of beverages, beers and of course, wines & tons of sides that can be heated up upon request. This is a great setup because its crazy fast with the service, and in no time I got what I've been craving for for days. Eat inside or out, condiments and lemon-scented napkins and everything all provided. So so good. Amazing ribs. Very few places can pull it off without any sauce but this joint does it no problem. Slips right off the bone. Would suggest fullrack babyback. Mashed potatoes also yummy. Sundried tortellini really good too. Yes we get fancy up in hurr. Really wanted desert too but unfortunately my stomach is limited in physical capacity. Only reccomendation is a self-serve soft-serve ice cream machine :D

I wish that I had another photo to add besides the hookers one. Unfortunately I ate everything. We were on our way back from the outlets when my boyfriend, hit by a sudden flash of brilliance, decided that we are going to end 2014 with tri-tip steak. I ate everything. It was awesome. We came in 20 minutes before they were closing. I felt terrible, because they had already started putting things away. However these folks are the nicest people ever. They totally hooked it up. During that time, eight more people came in! But they're super nice. Everyone got served. I'm really happy to have seen the new year with barbecue from this incredibly amazing place. I can't wait to try the other stuff!

As a local, I really wanted this place to be better than it is. I have tried their sandwiches for lunch on three separate occasions. Each time, the bread was stale and the meat tasteless and dry. Perhaps I am ordering the wrong things? I sometimes consider going back to try their so-called "famous" BBQ'd oysters, but fear of disappointment keeps me away.

  • Elizabeth W.

Skip all of the other "BBQ" places in Petaluma, and COME HERE!!! Lombardi's serves up legit, smokey goodness. I've only visited on the weekends, so don't know if their BBQ smokers and grills are up and running during the week, but regardless, make it a point to skip all of the bad bar food in the area, and stop in for some real Southern BBQ.

This place is definitely delicious. We drove up from san francisco to go to Lagunitas and this place is only 5 mins away. We had BBQ oyster and they were great. We also got the beef ribs. Ive never has so much meat in my life lol. You should give this place a try, you wont be disappointed

I've been here twice and both times I have ordered a different Tri-tip sandwich. Today, I had the #7. It was a Tri-tip sandwich smothered in BBQ sauce with horseradish cheese on a soft roll. It was delicious! I love this place and I love seeing all the smoke pouring out of all the smokers lined up along the front of this place. A must try whenever you're visiting Petaluma!

My boyfriend and I love this place! We don't live in Petaluma, but we've still made it to Lombardi's a couple of times. They have a delicious vegetarian sandwich, where they spread cream cheese on and have sun-dried tomatoes, among other things. I LOVE it!And my boyfriend, who is not a vegetarian, loves their meat! It's great because although it is a BBQ place, they have food for me (a vegetarian) as well. They have a big selection of wine and beer to buy, as well as other drinks. I would recommend going when it's nice weather, so that you can sit outside on the deck. The inside seating isn't that great and it's pretty cramped inside. Both times we've gone it's been really busy, which verifies that it's a great place to eat :) We will definitely be going back.

I don't know what to rate this place as I have yet to eat here. I just moved to the area and stopped by hoping for some amazing BBQ. I asked the cashier what they're known for, and that I had never eaten there before... all he could answer was "the #10 sando is good". I asked if they served anything more than sandwiches - some real finger lickin BBQ... He said, "Oh, you can have anything from the display case..." - REALLY??!! I was really hoping to have some amazing BBQ... but the cashier couldn't even offer me any suggestions, so I just felt ignored and neglected and just left hungry. Any company who puts that type of person in charge of welcoming people and customers, I really don't trust. Why on earth would you put someone on the ordering end who doesn't even know what you sell?? I LOVE BBQ and would be back several times a week, but guess I need to find another spot that actually cares about offering good customer service. Visit was at 7pm on 7/28. Cashier had a strong accent, maybe from Boston.

Love this place. Everything we have had has been excellent. Friendly people, too. We make a point to fit Lombardi's in whenever we are within a 30 mile radius. Also, they had a friendly cat outside today who just made me smile.

I'm so happy yelp helped me to find this place!! It was 4/18/14 around 1pm when we arrived. The line moved quickly. I ordered the #11 smokin chicken- chicken, bbq sauce, smoked swiss, bacon, tomato, lettuce on a roll w/ pickles on the side. OMG so good!!! I highly recommend it. The only thing I would have changed was I should have gone and got more sauce b/c it was really good- I'll remember for next time. My boyfriend had the #9 pig out- 1/2 pork, cheese, onion, tomato, and mayo- he loved it. He also purchased a Lagunitas Little Sumpin- he liked that you just open the fridge and grab whatever you want from a six pack- kinda fun. Our total was $18.42 for the 2 sandwiches and beer- not bad for a filling/tummy satisfying lunch We ate outside b/c it was a beautiful day so why waste it indoors. We will return!

Greek Salad= unwashed lettuce. Disgusting! In deli case was expired mashed potatoes by 2-days. Clearly anything non- meat is not a priority. That's what I get for being a salad- eating bitch at a rib place. That being said- my honey is still squealing about the ribs. Oink! Oink! And PS- cute blonde chick working there does not need to be broadcasting how many men she's been with! Maybe instead... She could be washing the lettuce?

This is a really cute place, plenty of seating inside and out. They have a little market with great items for a picnic. I ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich with sauce and potato salad. It was generous, I could have easily split it with someone if I had been with anybody. The flavor was bland, just not much to it. I had high expectations because it came highly recommended. I guess it doesn't help that I am comparing it to BBQ in TX, OK and MO. Now, those states know how to BBQ! The staff was very nice and it was a clean restaurant. I would go back to pick up so market items, but I will pass on the BBQ. By the way, they were packed! They have a huge following so I would say try it and decide for yourself.

I get lunch here at least twice a week if not more. The Salmon sandwich is crazy good and if you feel like barbecue try the try tip sandwich. The only downside to this place is that there is always a long line however I am always amazed at how fast they expedite especially if Stacy is at the register.

The staff here is awesome! We decided to go through Lombardis for my husbands 30th bday. A acquaintance suggested it to me and I knew having BBQ would be the perfect party food- I'm so happy with the food, price, and more impressed by the staff. They were extremely nice I can't wait to go back! best BBQ restaurant in the bay!

I've never stayed and eaten here, I've always gotten take out because I eat ribs like an animal. I'm not embarrassed but for the sake of the people around me I like to consume ribs where I have full access to napkins that aren't paper...or a sink...maybe even a hose....possibly a bib. I've never been disappointed in the quality of food here. You can smell the barbecue as soon as you get within a quarter of a mile in any direction and it smells amazing. I drove by this place for years and always said I would stop in one day but never did until this year. I'm glad I did because I'm a sucker for both barbecued pork and beef ribs. I've only ever gotten ribs from here and I would love to try some of their other items as well but every time I go in I can't help but get a rack of ribs. The baby back ribs are so succulent and moist, the spare ribs are tender and meaty, and the beef ribs are equally as tender and meaty. The baked beans and potato salad are the perfect side to ribs on a hot summer day. One time I went in and they forgot to put the baked beans in my bag. The next time I went back I let them know and they were apologetic and even tossed an extra baked beans in for me which was so cool and unexpected.

After cruising downtown Petaluma and found nothing that really suited our fancy, we headed back to Lombardi's. It was high noon and the BBQ smell was abundant. We were lucky to get the last parking spot and walked inside. This is a general store/deli/bbq. So do not expect any fancy tables with utensils. It's a plastic fork and package salt and pepper kind of place. Off in a small room, there are tables for customers to enjoy their meal and outside, are maybe 6tables. The outside is the best as you can see the workers grilling and the traffic coming and going. That place was hoping when we got there. The system is fairly efficient as well. We had to stand aside and look at the board above the sandwich makers to see what they have to offer. There were varies sandwich, salads and even deviled eggs. Of course there are eggs! Petaluma was once the egg capitol of northern California. Once we decided, there is one line and it moves quick. Be sure to grab your drinks from the cooler or else you will need to get in line again to pay. Hubby ordered the pull pork sandwich and he was digging it. I decided on half a BBQ chicken. I would have liked my chicken more grilled and tastier but with their homemade sauce made it okay. The chicken wasn't dry at all. Oh, do get their Sicilian pasta salad. There's something about the vinaigrette that makes it tastes so good. As we were eating, the worker walked by with an order of grilled asparagus. It, too looked so good we had to go back on line to place an order. Some of the sprigs were old and tough but the it had a good flavor. Do stop by to grab some BBQ or a sandwich before going to the petaluma village outlet.

I don't know how this place has 4 stars. Had the BBQ sandwich which had soggy meat, tri-tip sandwich which was drenched in some sort of sauce and the baby back ribs which were 10 mins later than the rest of the food was cold. We also saw sandwiches being warmed in the microwave. We are from North Carolina and know good BBQ...this is not!

  • Julia M.

BBQ sandwich..BBQ sandwich! I have to come here every time I stop by in the North Bay. Their BBQ tri-tip sandwich with sauce is a must. It is very casual/deli style. They have outdoor seating. Come here on a nice summer day, order a sandwich and drink, and enjoy on their patio.

  • Hector G.

3.5 stars are in order, but not quite ready to hand over 4. I was in town for the day to hang with my buddy and when I asked if he was hungry, he was quick to point us in this direction. So quick that i didn't even get a chance to see what the Yelp Community had to say. As we arrived, I could see medium sized smoke clouds coming from the smokers. That's definitely a good sign. As we approached the entrance, I noticed a giant cutting board loaded with steaming hot pork being pulled and chopped and sauced. Good sign number two right there. The menu is solid and it was too early in the afternoon to chow on a giant plate of BBQ. It's entirely possible that the dinner items are the bread and butter, but I can't speak to that just yet. Trip Tip sandwich is what I ordered, after staring at the menu for what felt like 15 minutes!! Very thinly sliced trip tip, which is a pleasant surprise. Generally, trip tip is served as giant hunks of meat and it's usually a bit tough to grub in a sandwich. Cheese was melted nice, sauce was vinegary, a bit much for my taste, but overall it was a solid sandwich. I have fallen victim of a practice that is frowned upon by some. Show up to a new place, check it out once and write a mediocre review. I know, know. I appreciate your concern, but I think I'm gonna make it through the day anyway.

    (3)
  • Ann L.

You have to try the salmon sandwich. Its very yummy. As for the place, its always packed, but well worth the wait. My only complaint is the bathroom. For such a busy place, there is only one stall, so make sure you make your piss stop somewhere else.

    (4)
  • Matthew F.

Sure, the line gets long and you sometimes have to wait a minute to get your food, but ribs, bbq chicken, oysters, crazy good salmon - what's not to love??? Definitely keep the cornbread on the menu guys, it's awesome! And maybe add a few more dessert options?

    (5)
  • Joshua H.

This is a generous two star review. Maybe the most mediocre bbq I've ever had. Low quality ingredients, meat flavors are overwhelmed by an average bbq sauce, and the in a first for me, they put mayo on the bbq sandwiches. Disappointing.

  • Glenn C.

Went in for a BLT. My fiancé called me at lunch time and told me she was having a BLT at Luma and described how good it was so I was close to Lombardis and pulled in to get one. I ordered a classic BLT on wheat, mayo and American cheese and that's what I got but unfortunately when I took it home and unwrapped it for lunch I was sadly disappointed. The bacon had no flavor! Sliced super thin and over cooked, they reheated it in a microwave so it had a funky taste, but not a smoky salty BACON taste I have been here before and it is usually good not great but good, but this BLT was horrible. Step the game up folks. Michaels sourdough is a few blocks away and you get a much better sandwich for about the same price.

I was in the area and decided to try this place out based on the good reviews. Since its a BBQ place i was expecting hot fresh meat . When they were taking my order for the tri tips I was asked if I wanted it cold or hot . I said hot . When the was my order to pick up my food I noticed they were about to put the cold cuts of tri tip in the MICROWAVE for me! That's definitely not what I expect for hot meat at a BBQ place . Would have got something warm and more flavorful at in n out burger nearby.

  • Michelle S.

Seeing as I come from the South, I have pretty high expectations for BBQ, and this place definitely did well on my list! The ribs were AMAZING (both pork and beef), their fixins (sides) were pretty good, and the tri-tip and pork was really awesome! Service was fast and friendly and they had a great selection of beer and wine too! Not a great place to sit and eat (unless you like to be outside and near the grill master and his smokey grills out front), but a fun place to take the kids to! We took our food to go and ate at home on our farm.

This is the best barbecue that I have had in Sonoma county. As you drive up your mouth will begin to salivate uncontrollably!!! My favorite is the pulled pork. It is absolutely divine. The meat is so tender and juicy that I would recommend a bib, and the cole slaw adds just the right cooling crunch. I am never disappointed by a visit to Lombardis!

    (5)
  • Chet W.

We love the ribs, chicken, pulled pork and Tri-tip. We have tried them all but most of all I go for the half chicken as it is perfect. The coleslaw and potato salad are always a very nice addition. They cook it right on the porch in front which is fun to watch as they get your order prepared. You can also sit and eat on the porch along with a bottle of beer and some oysters. Can't say enough about their own bbq sauce which we always get extra.

I was visiting a friend in Petaluma and said I was in the mood for a good sandwich. He took me to Lombardi's. I ordered the #7. I was in heaven from first bite. Best sandwich EVER....Two days later I was still talking about it. And the service was great!! Two very sweet young ladies marissa and natasha helped me at the register. Can't complain at all. The whole experience will have me going back.

Oh BBQ meat u are a mysterious wonder. I have eaten here multiple times, 40x's+. Sometimes the ribs are perfection sometimes they are little old and dry. No worries. Every place has a lackluster day. At least I'm not getting ripped off when I buy a half order. Which speaks volumes! Come to San Francisco and get crap for 30 bucks that sucks too. Then tell me how you feel!! The Bbq sando list is always good. 1/2 pound wonderfulness in every bite! The main sando selection is hit or miss. Some sandos are great, some are to sloppy and to smothered in sauce. That being said, I order the sauce on the side! All the pasta and potato salads are good too! Made by Hookers! The deviled eggs with bacon?!!! I could seriously eat 10 of them lil bastards! Great beer selection. One of my local favs is the Heroine by 101 North. Sit outside on a picnic table in the sun eating bomb ass BBQ!! Please oh please!! Either way this place is fantastic! The tri-tip dinner for 30 bucks are you freaking kidding me!! SO GOOD and well worth the price. Coming home from work means I'm not cooking. So this IS the spot or perhaps cattlemen's... Anyways I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THIS PLACE!

My experience here was unfortunately bad. I had heard this place has great food and the reviews on yelp had very high praise. I ordered tri-tip (hot) and bbq asparagus. The customer service was very friendly. The tri-tip came first in a plastic container somewhat microwaved. The meat on top was luke warm and the meat inside was cold. This was very unappetizing. I didn't personally like the sweet and tangy sauce but every bbq spot has their own take. Then my name was called to pick up the asparagus. These were good, well cooked, a little too much seasoning for my preference. About a minute into eating the asparagus in the dinning area someone started asking where their asparagus was and alluded to me taking their order. The servers didn't seem to know what to say and repeated that I must have taken his! Again, they had called my name to pick up my order and my name was printed on the receipt attached to the box. Overall I wasn't impressed with the food for the price. This must be more of a sandwich shop as none of the meat looked fresh off the bbq; everything appeared to be in cold storage. In response to the owners question, I was here on Saturday around 11am.

This is the first place I always recommend if anyone asks me for a good deli. Their food is fresh. The staff is always attentive and helpful, quick and friendly. I have gone to Lombardis for years now and can honestly say that their food is made with skill and has some love in it. Their are a few places in petaluma that make some good sandwiches but Lombardis is always at the top of my list. I highly recommend the hot BBQ tri-tip sandwich. It's got a ton of steak that's flavor is incredible. Their prices are on par with Luchessi deli or any other quality deli. In other words delis are surprisingly expensive and a couple sandies, chips and drinks can rack up a bill. If I'm going to drop 15-20 bucks at a deli I expect it to be awesome. Lombardis is worth every penny.

The place has 10 charcoal grills sitting out front and their smell is enticing. We ate there for lunch it seemed as if 90% of the business was deli sandwiches. I saw some burgers come off the grill that looked like they were to die for. My wife and me had the BBQ beef ribs and to be honest we were disappointed in them. They were dry and lacked flavor. I won't mark the business down because I saw too many good things being served.

We're hooked. Went again yesterday for the Killer Joe's (BBQ tri-tip with creamy horseradish and melted cheddar) and grilled half chicken. Grilled chicken was moist and had a fabulous smoky taste. Went early afternoon on Saturday and place was crazy busy, but staff is friendly and helpful. Nice assortment of beverages and deli salads and extras offered in refrigerated cases. Yummy bacon-stuffed deviled eggs. Next on my bucket list is the Thanksgiving Turkey sandwich, mmmmm!

Lombardis is a must everytime I come up, and everytime its been consistently awesome. Good service even when they are crazy busy. My go tos are the gobbler, thick turkey slices stuffing and cranberry, cant go wrong there. I prefer their soft roll over the dutch crunch. The Sicilian pasta salad, my favorite rainforest crisp crackers and cowgirl creamery cheeses. I stock up on for picnicking while at the wineries. And the basil, garlic, butter bbq oysters 2.50 each on the weekends, they are huge, and soooo delicious. My order of 3 took a bit today but the bbq guy threw in a couple free ones. Sweet. Im thankful, and really really full.

I have a pretty high bar for barbecue, I'm specifically a fan of Texas brisket and North Carolina bbq pork. I tried the tri-tip sandwich here and was pretty disappointed. That said, the maximum goodness a tri-tip sandwich can reach is not that high. My father-in-law had barbecued oysters which he was fine with.

I had to revisit this BBQ spot after a friend pretended to make BBQ Pork ribs and I later found out they were from Lombardis. So on a recent cold, crisp Saturday night we cruised by Lombardis. We got lucky smoke was billowing from the outside grill(the heck with spare the air) happy to see they were still open. We went inside & ordered a slab of pork ribs with an outstanding BBQ sauce which is tangy, lightly spicy(reminds me of Trader Joes BBQ sauce) $28 for the slab. I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive but these ribs rival the ribs at Everett& Jones in Berkeley. And those ribs are out of this world. But I don't get around Berkeley much. Let me tell you.....these are some awesome pork ribs....hence the 5 stars. Not one piece of old chewy pork. They are moist, fall off the bone pork ribs & the sauce complements the ribs. The slab lasted us a couple of days for two people. I was savoring each moment I took a bite. The store also has a cute wine selection, good french bread & other picnic type fare. Lombardis is known for tri-tip, BBQ oysters & major catering too. GO!

Tri Tip sandwich and BBQ sauce here is second to none. Sandwiches are a bit messy, but nothing a few wet wipes can't cure. Big grass area is great to eat lunch if you have small kids.

Per a ton of Yelp recommendations, get the tri-tip sandwich. Its a burst of so much delicious flavor. And while you're at it, grab their basil oysters and some potato salad. You won't be sorry. I will definitely be a regular at Lombardi's BBQ.

We were staying at the nearby KOA for a long weekend and drove out to Dillon Beach for a day at the beach. In planning our family trip, one of the things I had on my checklist was to get some oysters at one of the places near the ocean. Unfortunately, after playing in the sand and surf for a few hours, we all just wanted to get back to town, so I had thought I had missed my chance. Luckily we spotted Lombardi's "BBQ Oysters" sign on the way back to camp and I made a mental note to check this place out for dinner. Later on that evening, I took everyone's order and headed out to grab the grub. Immediately upon arriving, I saw the line of smokers out front and smelled the delicious aroma. Inside it reminded me of a neighborhood deli (a good thing) and I got in line to place my order. I ordered a Turkey & Cheddar deli sandwich, a #1 (Gourmet Turkey), a #3 (Smokin' Sausage), and 6 BBQ Oysters (Garlic/Basil Butter). The sandwiches came out pretty quick, but the oysters took a while. When I ordered them, the staff told me they'd take a little bit because they were backed up, so I was prepared for the extra wait. When they finally came, I could smell the deliciousness wafting out of the box and almost pulled up a chair to eat them right there, but I resisted and waited until I got back to camp. The wait was definitely worth it . . . the oysters were delicious. My only regret was not ordering an even dozen. The sandwiches themselves were good (not great), which may be partly due to the fact that they were made about 15 minutes before the oysters and then had to wait for the ride back to camp also. All in all, it was a good experience and I would definitely grab some more of those oysters if we're ever in the area again.

I have a theory about those smokers out front: they aren't being used to make meat. They're just there to burn wood and get that smell going in the parking lot. You see a cloud of it pouring out of the chimney from the intersection and you think "oh yeah!" But then you go in and stand in that line and at the end of it comes a hunk of meat with no smokey flavor. No smoke ring. Nothing. Nada. Nil. Non. Zilch. Plus which: it's overpriced.

Lombardi's catered a reception that my mom and I attended and we've been hooked ever since. It is our new favorite spot, offering mouth watering BBQ/gourmet deli sandwiches, BBQ oysters, tri-tip, pork ribs, baby back ribs, and chicken just to name a few. On Memorial Day, we ordered a half rack of pork ribs which were far from dry, half a chicken nicely seasoned, and one of their tri-tip sandwiches. You've got to try #8 Mama Lil's, it's to die for. Our order was ready within minutes and the people who work there are friendly.

3.5 stars While I've tasted better BBQ, Lombardi's is hard to resist: you're driving by on Petaluma Blvd, hungry, thirsty and you smell the goodness coming out from their smokers .... Hook, line and sinker. You park your car (because if you live around here, you'll be driving a truck!) and think, "well, if all these people sitting on the wraparound deck are having a good time, I will too!" They have a variety of BBQ sandwiches on the menu, and even offer cheeseburger and oysters, but I stuck with my bf's mom's choice which proved to be very decent: the BBQ tri-tip sandwich is a half pound of tender tri-tip, melted horseradish cheddar with mayo-horseradish, tomato and onions on a soft roll. I wish the bread was less doughy so I can have more room for my MMMeat! They're also a gourmet deli so if you've got a hankering for a slice of cheesecake or want to buy that fancy pesto for your pasta at home, go ahead. Don't forget to grab a bottle of wine (priced right!) and the garlic bread is the issshhhh -- LOTS of butter with LOTS of garlic and melty cheese = Broke da mouth good!

Food is fantastic and fresh. Places is always hoppin' with customers. I usually get the 1/2 pound brisket sandwich and my wife orders the ribs. The ribs are outstanding, fall-off-the-bone goodness. We are never disappointed going here.

i really don't get the 4-star rating for this joint? i had the tri-tip w/ horseradish sandwich that was 90% "soft roll", a soft roll made of cheap white bread. i've passed this place numerous times and have always been tempted by the great aroma that his you a block away but, my goodness, what an enormous disappointment. sides of coleslaw stuffed into plastic containers, that looks at least a week old, in the help-yourself frige, for $3 a pop, same with the "baked beans", microwaved to order... and, frankly, their shredded "bbq", which is chilled and displayed in their deli case, looks like hormel's pre-cooked, heat and serve food service products. fries? nope. corn on the cob? nope. delicious bbq fresh off the grill, ready to be sliced to order or served warm? nope. dingy back seating area? yep. odd smell in dingy back seating area? yep. one positive note tho - their entire crew seemed like hard workers, attentive, friendly and very helpful - too bad they don't have a better product to serve.

Mmm, just seeing the name Lombardi's makes my mouth water. For years, every time I pass through Petaluma, I've eaten here and enjoyed it immensely. The smokers loaded with saucy meats out front tempt you into this simple but charming deli. The eats are the reason to come. Lots of variety, fresh ingredients, and great bang for your buck portion wise. Hot and cold made to order BBQ and classic deli sandwiches. You can build your own or order from their specialty sandwich list. The highlights for me are the tri-tip with horseradish cheddar and the pulled pork. In terms of sides, the red potato salad with bacon, sundried tomato tortellini, and chicken caesar salad are all tasty. I also have a soft spot for their cold, ultra comfort food macaroni salad. You can get grilled items like both pork and beef ribs, chicken, tri tips, portobello mushrooms, even asparagus right then and there or take them to go. What an amazing selection of drinks (alcoholic + non-alcoholic) and chips! I always spend like 10 minutes pacing up and down the aisle trying to choose what I want. Sitting outside on the veranda or on the picnic tables can be pleasant if you don't mind the smoke from all the cooking. On hotter days, the flies kind of go berserk. Inside, it is no frills but pretty clean with a big television for sports viewing. Kind of feels like a picnic with all the plastic cutlery. The employees are friendly and super efficient. You never have to wait long from the time you order to the time you're stuffing your face. Plenty of foot traffic and what seems like lots of local regulars. Much love, Lombardi's. I'll be back soon to try some oysters :)

Omg! This is the best deli in town! I've never eaten any of there bbq items except the pulled pork which is to die for and ruined me to any other pulled pork!!! I will need to make a trip there soon to get some delicious yummyness!

My sister and I were excited to try this place after all the reviews, but walked away disappointed. Pros: --- Drink selection --- Very Friendly staff --- Nice outdoor seating --- Large selection of sides --- Garlic bread Cons: --- The BBQ! I got the tri tip BBQ sandwich and my sister got the chicken BBQ sandwich. It was okay but nothing to write home about. I grabbed an extra BBQ sauce which was delicious, but I was not impressed with the meat. They may be smoking it out front, but then they are slicing it up, mixing it with sauce, and cooling it down in a deli display. They then make your sandwich and warm it up. Our sandwiches were lukewarm. Bleh. Point of the review, this is not a place to go if you're craving some good ol BBQ. This is where I'll go to get an awesome cold turkey sandwich with some chips.

The quality of food here is pretty superb! The ribs were delicious, the chicken was delicious and even the sides of garlic bread, baked beans and potato salad were very good! Just a heads up though, this isn't a restaurant. It's a pick up spot with outside seating. Id also call ahead before coming because this place does get very long lines!

Just ordered the #7 and it was terrible. I feel sick to my stomach now. Cold soggy tri tip topped with some really gross horseradish, the combination was awful. My fiancé got the #8 and did not like it either, terrible BBQ sauce flavor. We were really disappointed. The people working there were great and I can only speak to what we ordered. Bad experience.

I'm yet to find a better deli in the North Bay than Lombardi's BBQ. I know that's a bold statement. But I ain't joking. When ever I'm driving past Petaluma, I go out of my way to stop at Lombardi's for a BBQ tri-tip sandwich (served on a soft roll, with spicy horseradish cheddar, tomato, and mayo). When the BBQ sauce intertwines with the juices from the tomato and mayo - it's pure magic. I'm salivating right now just thinking about it. Lombardi's practically lures you in from the road with its BBQ fumes (they grill everything right in the parking lot in front of the entrance). At first glance, this place looks like your run-of-the-mill deli. Don't be fooled. It's anything but, my friends. It's more like a gourmet sandwich assembly line. I've only had their sandwiches, but they also have regular BBQ offerings (ribs, chicken, salmon, etc.) that come with sides (potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, etc.). They also do burgers, salads, and specialty sandwiches. The prices are incredibly reasonable (most sandwiches are under $7), and the portions are huge enough to induce an inevitable food coma. A wise friend of mine once told me that you can always distinguish a good deli by the kind of pickles they serve. Very true. At Lombardi's, every sandwich comes with a juicy, crunchy dill pickle (the best I've ever tasted). Lombardi's has outdoor seating facing the parking lot. Nothing fancy. Be warned - it can get a bit smoky since the BBQ is nearby. So there you have it, my friends. The best deli in the North Bay (or maybe any part of the Bay) is Lombardi's. I can't wait to go back the next time I'm in P-Town.

I don't know whether to talk about the potato salad or the tri tip first. Both are awesome! So glad I made this stop. I'll be back whenever we are in the area. mm mm mm so good! Service was friendly and fast.

The egg-salad sandwich is incredible! The service is very friendly too. Stacy makes great recommendations for wine. They also have cowgirl creamery cheese for $14.99! Whole foods sells the same for $25+.

The car dealership guy recommended heading out to Lombardi's for a quick lunch. The BBQ joint had a great first impression, as the pits were blowing delicious smelling smoke. It was very crowded inside and outside the restaurant, which is always a good sign! The service was super friendly, but it did seem to take quite a while to get our food. Not an issue, as we had more time than money that day. We got a BBQ chicken sandwich with sauce, and it was just ok. Probably our fault, as we should have ordered a more traditional BBQ dish like the ribs or tri-tip.

I've driven past this place for years but never went in. Finally last weekend after a shopping trip to the outlet mall, we couldn't take it, the smoke from their bbq's was smelling amazing! We went in at a very busy time. The line was so long but it moved quickly. My one complaint about the place was that my husband said his name is "David" and they kept calling out "Dave" so we didn't know it was ours. We ended up waiting quite a while until we went up for a second time and asked if it was "David's". They said "No, Dave!" but it was clearly our food...so anyway, besides that stupid confusion, the place was good. We thoroughly enjoyed our sandwiches. The soft rolls are amazing and the bbq sauce was finger-licking good. We'll be coming back every time we're in the area.

I don't very often write reviews, however yelp steered us very very wrong in this circumstance. I'm a food professional who not only eats but cooks constantly (A LOT OF BBQ) and knows what good food is. We spent $50 and the BBQ was in the top two worst we've ever had. What did we order? 1. Ribs- they tasted like they were smoked on too high if heat. Tough, flavorless, and the only saving grace was the BBQ sauce. We normally eat every single bite of ribs, but we barely are two ribs. 2. Tri tip- absolutely inedible. Tough, over cooked and cut with the grain. Like eating meat shoelaces. We ate none of it. 3. Macaroni salad - the only thing we actually ate. Under seasoned but we ate because we were hungry. 4. Potato Salad- thick, under seasoned, awful. We actually threw away the whole thing. 5. Oysters- the only saving grace of this experience was the oysters...tasty...HOWEVER each one was like eating several raw garlic cloves. In addition the staff was completely unhelpful and smug. We were just passing through hoping for some good BBQ and had one of the worst food experiences in a very long time. Not sure if the good people if Petaluma have not experienced good BBQ, but from our experience it was one of the ABSOLUTE WORST food we have had based on good yelp reviews. Not sure if this was an anomaly or if this place really is this bad and people have no idea.

We had them cater a birthday party.. They brought so much food that we could have served twice as many people. Tritip great.. Chicken delicious.. Pasta was the best. They provided a carving station and all of the trays.. Also their deli has g reat sandwiches.. Try the Killer Joe!!

Five stars isn't enough...this place is SO good. Most times I get the tri-tip, with or without sauce and it is fantastic. Lately, i have been getting the cheeseburgers which are seriously to die for scrumptious. They have a great drink selection, their salads are loaded with yummy fixings, and I recommend the balsamic dressing. There are lots of chips to choose from. I always get the macaroni salad as a side, cause it's that good. Sandwiches are big enough to save half for later, yummy enough you don't want to. Service is fast, efficient, pleasant. Sitting outside in the warm air smelling the bbq makes it perfect. I definitely recommend!

Never been before & were a little thrown that it wasn't a sit down restaurant. Told the order taker we were new. She couldn't have been less helpful. We ordered a half slab of pork ribs, small salad & beans. She didn't take our name and acted as though we were crazy for asking if she needed one. When we checked out the very nice cashier said our name would be called when our ribs were ready. Huh? Ribs were tender and tasty but way more fat than meat, BBQ sauce was good as were the beans. Nothing particularly special in our opinion and the service really means we won't be back

I crave their sandwiches. The reason I am so excited to move back to Petaluma is to be closer to Lombardi's. The mama lil's, number eight on the menu, is the best thing in the restaurant. I definitely recommend it. I also recommend trying the bacon potato salad. Everything about this restaurant is awesome. Prices are fair. Service is good. Overall, five star deli.

Best Deli in town, common man if you even suggest different. Tri-Tip sandwich is the best anywhere. Don't like the rush hour, but worth the wait and real smart people go in the early evening. I have lived in Petaluma 48 years, this is the spot and anyone who says different just does not know.

Full disclosure, I lived in Texas for 40 years and have cooked BBQ myself for many years. I know what good BBQ tastes like. Picked up a tri tip dinner to go yesterday on the way back to Sonoma from Bodega Bay. Lombardi's tri tip managed a full trifecta, tough, tasteless and dry! I don't know if they're using grass fed beef, but that could explain the tough and dry part. There didn't appear to be any rub on the beef at all. We were forced to try the BBQ sauce just to add some flavor. The sauce was also not good. Good BBQ does not need any sauce! I previously had purchased a pulled pork dinner which contained quite a bit of membrane. Very disappointed.....

Went here for the first time today. Was craving some good BBQ. The restaurant is run by a bunch of teenagers, and they make it pretty clear that they would rather be anywhere else. The woman who took our order was rude and short with me. The bbq was pretty good. The ribs are cooked with no sauce (I personally prefer them barbecued in sauce. I also ordered the Killer Joe sandwich. That was delicious and very rich. The food was good but the service was terrible. I will go back again to try some other options off their giant menu, but not looking forward to dealing with their immature and rude staff.

Stopped by Petaluma for some odd reason and saw sign for BBQ oysters. Done. We tried oysters w/ both bbq sauce and garlic butter sauce. Both delicious. Also had tri-tip sandwich, which was really good and not dry. Roll was also very soft which was a plus. Will try more items when stop by on the way back next time.
