Sometimes I gert teary thinkin about Connal's and how I never get a chance to make it over there anymore. The Double Cheeseburger special is seirous buisness, I use to go here so much that I would walk up and they would just telll me my price and have the bottle of tapatio waiting for me. Great customer service, great food, great everything

I have been going here most of my life. I can't remember ever having anything bad at Connal's. First off, their french fries are THE BEST anywhere. And they come in huge portions. Crispy and delicious. Don't skip the fries when you make your order. Connal's is famous for their Grinders. A fantastic sandwich. Myself, I like to have them go light on the oil though and then it is perfect. They are huge and satisfying meals. Connal's makes a mean Club Sandwich and Grilled Chicken Sandwich as well. The Grilled Chicken Sandwich is one of my favorites. But when you are feeling like stuffing yourself with something amazing, the Club is the way to go. Do you want a great burrito? Try one of their Fajita Burritos. Love Chili Dogs? Connal's makes a great one. The workers at Connal's are friendly and efficient. There is always a line but it is well worth it. Everyone I recommend Connal's to loves it and always return. This little local favorite is a true delight.

I came here with several friends (who had been here previously) for a Saturday lunch. As with most diner-like places, I can never decide what to eat because there's just too many choices! Plus I was hungry, so I actually wanted to try everything, I just couldn't decide which one I wanted most. I should have listened to my friend who ordered the pastrami grinder. I chose a Philly Cheese Steak, which, being from Jersey, is usually a safe choice. Not so in this case. The meat was kinda flavorless and it was *drenched* in some weird cheesy sauce, instead of just having melted cheese. The roll is supposed to stay hard and dry! I ended up only finishing half of it. I also ordered a medium oreo cookie milkshake and fries. The thick fries weren't very seasoned, but they were pretty tasty. And the milk shake was a good size... my friend ordered a large milkshake and it as HUGE. Definitely worth the price. I feel like I probably just ordered the wrong thing. I'd be willing to give it another chance.

This is one of those old school Pasadena restaurants that is as good as it gets! I have been going to Conals with my mom since I was id say 10 or 11 and I still have not tried everything on the menu. But let me tell you everything that I have ordered has been awesome!, with the exception of the patato skins. I just found them to greasy, if you like grease then then you will be in heaven. Other then that I love just about everything else that there menu has to offer. If you go there and like mixed drinks you must try the Conals Special, it is like a Surly Temple on crack and very addicting. I just tried there carne asada tacos for the first time and let me tell you I would compare them with big version of kind tacos taco + letus, chopped bell pepper, and tomato. Highly suggest this spot for anyone from anywhere! Ohh yeah and might I say, they have the best french fries in town!

If you like avocado, you'll love the avocado fries. Seasoned fries covered with guacamole with a little spicy kick.

I pass by this place all the time, and it's always busy. It had the look of a good sandwich joint. And then I went and ordered the turkey breast sandwich, what was I thinking, right? I don't understand. How can they charge you $5 for a sandwich you can make at home. THAT was VERY disappointing. On top of that, the fries were soggy, so sad. But alas, this place seems to be a local favorite, and I just moved to the area, so I'll deffer my final critique after another visit or two. 3 or 4 people ordered this gigantic chicken salad that looked tasty, I'll have to try that. And I'll also have to try a sub type sandwich....after that, the report card goes out. But until then, Meh. I've experienced better. NOTE to the fans, do yourself a favor and try Belly Buster's in Alhambra, then tell me where this place rates.

Damn, that's an awesome grinder. Killer fries too. You know a place has gotta be good to get 5 stars just for a sammich & fries, but they deserve it! Order smart: stay away from stupid shit like avocado fries and chili and you'll be fine here. This is a sammich place, not a culinary adventure.

Tiny lil location; definitely would not have noticed it (nor go into the northern ridges of Pasadena) for this joint, but for a friend's suggestion to go. Plenty of parking, but not so much dining space on the inside (however, there was another outside patio area for overflow). We got a Philly Cheese Steak, Avocado Fries, and a Large Vanilla Coke. The Philly Cheese Steak was pretty awesome. The Avocado Fries were absolutely bombastic. And Vanilla Coke isn't something that's pretty commonplace anymore, so that was definitely a plus (not to mention free refills. For a large drink. What!?) The whole meal was just about $12, which I guess is slightly on the pricier side of things, but split between two people, it wasn't too bad. I'm definitely a fan of this place, but am just sad at how far I had to drive up to get here.

They have very great tasting burgers and fries but there are some positives and some negatives. positives are that they do not make their food and leave it under a lamp to sit they actually cook it after you order. but some negatives are that they do not use the fullest sanitary measures for example last time i went there i saw them working with no gloves and then holding peeled avocados bare handed and just squeezing it into a burger kinda nasty but still good food !

  • Michael M.

Good food, most of the time, occasionally the food just isn't good. But i still go there frequently. Another down side is that they only take cash, there's a strange ATM thing inside, but, it just adds unnecessary hassle. Also try to not go at lunch or dinner time, it gets incredibly crowded.

    (3)
  • Kirt F.

Pro: walk up window for ordering or seating inside. Cheap and good milk shakes with a great variety of flavors! Con: Only take cash. :/ Worth it for the shakes. We got both the Chocolate and Peanut Butter along with a Wild Cherry. The large is LARGE! Will certainly be back again, next time for the food.

Thanks to prohibitively difficult regulation, California has a multitude to offer from mom & pop hamburger stands. Among my favorites is Connal's which flame broils their burgers and has delectably can't-eat -just- one' fries with just the right amount of special seasoning on it. They slam home a small value menu, and have an incredible selection of shakes. Connal's is filling, and won't leave you hungry for more as their portions are more than generous. It's well worth your time, and one of the better hamburger stands to visit while in Pasadena.

While familiarizing ourselves with the area, my boyfriend and I noticed this place (Sandwiches by Connal's) and the line of people that was in front of it... everyday, noon or night, always people. This place has a huge menu not just sandwiches. They've got burgers, burritos... sundaes... and their fries! Oh man, the avocado fries are so good! Actually they are more like guacamole fries, but damn tasty. Big portions too. The Boyfriend and I usually share a meal, the fries alone can feed 3 people easily. Annnd the staff is aight ;)

  • Susie S.

Finally! A good sandwich place that's open 7 days a week! The sandwiches here are very good. I got the GRINDER Turkey and it was superb. Subway be damned.

  • Evelyn C.

I stopped here for lunch one day after shopping at the Armenian grocery next door, and now it's one of my favorite places to stretch a dollar in Pasadena. They have a huge menu of sandwiches, burgers, fries, and shakes so humongous you could swim in them, in every flavor imaginable. If you are lactose intolerant, do not order the shakes; my friend still can't stop talking about the unbelievable gas he had after downing a large. The inside seating area is your typical dingy hole-in-the-wall fast food joint, but every time I've been here the take-out line is constantly replenishing itself. Sure, the fries could use a little more seasoning, but the pastrami is pretty good, the mint chocolate chip milkshake is to die for, and if you're in the mood for decent, cheap, artery-clogging, guilt-inducing food in giant portions, this is the place.

Had a tuna melt here about a week ago. Not the best I've had, it was one of the worst. My husband's philly cheese steak sandwich was pretty good, as well as, the onion rings. Their shakes & the o-rings are what saved their rating. The shakes are pretty awesome! Definitely come for the sides & drinks. ;-)

    (3)
  • Robert P.

Great classic sandwich and goodies shop, which has been justifiably loved by Pasadena/Altadena denizens for years now. I especially love that they have *real* MALTS, not just shakes. Absolutely the best

  • Corina B.

Connal's is good for a quicky bite or for those nights you just don't want to cook and want to pick something up that's not fussy. The taco salad is HUGE and less than $6! I love it with grilled chicken breast. Their burgers are solid, the Mexican stuff is so-so, the gyros are good... I really don't go eat there. I mostly call in my order and pick up...The staff is a bit short and can sometime be a bit rude especially if you ask for extra sauces...

    (3)
  • Adrian Jr R.

I love there Philly cheese! You have to try the chicken swiss w/bacon on french roll !! um good! and a cherri coke....plus the shakes are amazing.....your welcome...

I don't know what all these pansies are mouthing off about. Avocado fries, really? Who cares? The place advertises sandwiches! Who goes to the Disney Hall to complain about the food?! Oh... wait... dozens of "reviewers" here have done just that. Apparently, a lot of people have this sort of mixed up mentality. Pitiful. I myself had a delicious philly cheese-steak sandwich. Ugh, I can hear you east coast snobs whining already - "It's not an authentic philly cheese-steak!" Yes, everything is so much better on the Atlantic side, isn't it? That explains why you live in Los Angeles. In any event, the sandwich was simply heaven. My only regret was that this sublime consumption experience was all too short. I practically ate the sandwich whole. It just was that good. Only Fredo's on Lake can be mentioned in the same sentence. The fries, the raison d'etre of our trip here, were wonderful. Again, I only regret that we munched them down so quickly! There will be those that will criticize this place. Let them. Let the masses fill their gullets on Subway, Quizno's and other such generic, plebian establishments. But for the sandwich gourmand, there will always be Connall's.

Jujube and I decided to head over to Connal's in search of crunchy, delectable fries, but we found so much more. So much more. We honestly didn't expect much from this place; being wrong has never been so scrumptious. The Jew swooned until the following day about the melt he had (it looked and smelled delicious as I watched him inhale it), and my burger was pretty damn good too, but I was really there for the fries and coleslaw. Delicious, they were. And yes, I was satisfied. The only short coming this place has is the size. It's rather small inside, but it does have an out-door eating area. This minor inconvenience will eagerly be over looked during future trips to this yummy establishment. I can't wait to try the tuna melt next. Also, if a restaurant offers avocado fries, use common sense when ordering. Don't assume the avocado will be fried.

Over-rated and not worth the money.

Excellent fries and a pretty big menu of good stuff. Give it a shot if you're driving through and want something quick and cheap, yet tasty.

You know when a UPS Man says something is good, it is! We do eat lunch out and sometimes dinner (when it's not brought with us.). So if you are somewhere else than home, just ask the UPS Man! We do know alot. You'll see UPS Package Cars there. Everything is great!

You gotta love a place that has a PBJ on the printed menu. Today was the first time I've been to Connal's, and I was reasonably impressed. This is an old-school sandwich shop, with a wide selection of choices - from grinders to Chicken Cordon Bleu to yes, peanut butter and jelly. They also have burgers, hot dogs, salads, Mexican dishes, and various deep fried goodies. Oh yeah...and an extensive breakfast menu. I had a BBQ beef dip grinder, which was heavily stacked with meat. The beef was okay - somewhere in between real deli roast beef and Arby's - but there must have been over a pound of it, and for $5.49 I really couldn't complain. It would have taken 3-4 Big Montanas worth to make that stack. Everything else on the menu looked reasonably priced too - very few items over 5 or 6 bucks. PBJ: $1.89. I don't know what this place used to be like, but I wasn't mad at it today. I will definitely go back to try other items.

  • Tania P.

DO NOT get the roast beef dip here. Although there was a TON of beef in my sandwich the dip was like water and the bun was soggy fell apart everywhere...even before i dipped!!! I only ate a fourth of my sandwich before throwing away... Waste money...

I used to go to Connals in high school but for some reason,I haven't been in years. My brother was visiting and wanted to go so I went back. My brother had the bean and cheese burrito,he loves it. I had a fish burger. The fish was cooked to death! The sandwich was dry. I would not order that again! Another time my brother went had the b&c burrito again,I tried the turkey grinder, another dry and tasteless sandwich. Very little mayo made the sandwich dry,the turkey was flavorless, salt & pepper didn't help much. The mango smoothie was nothing special.I will not return.

Where was Oro's review when I needed it? So my friend lives in the area and she has eaten at Connal's several times and has mentioned that it serves Avocado fries and she was curious and the thought of cut up avocado fried like french fries sounded SO appealing to me! I was going to have lunch with her in Pasadena so I was game. Unfortunately, I didn't know the name of the place, only that it was on Washington in Pasadena and that my friend would get us there. So I ordered a Roast Beef sub and we split the avocado fries. Our mouths were watering in anticipation of what was to come. I mean, how can you screw up avocado fries? Dumb question. So how was the wait one may wonder? Not bad. We thought the fries would take a long time so we were prepared to wait awhile, but our number was called while we were talking. So we approach the cashier to pick up our food and see the avocado fries. What was it? Um, EXACTLY what Oro said! A plate of regular fries with a green goop slathered over the fries. Appetizing? Not really. But since we ordered them, we were game to try. NOT WORTH IT! Not much flavor, not much of anything really. It got to the point where I grabbed some ketchup and ate whatever fries I could find that didn't have the green goop on it! The fries plain were good, but there really is NO point in adding the avocado. It basically ruins perfectly good and normal fries! The sandwich itself was pretty good, dependable, quick and inexpensive. There was an even mix of roast beef, lettuce, tomato and mayo. So I give it 3 stars as the sandwich was good and they were quick and inexpensive and polite. My friend said everything she has tried has been pretty good and from what I have tried in terms of sandwiches, I can believe it. But do avoid the avocado fries and go with the regular tastier fries and you can do no wrong!

Great place to eat I would give it a star over Lucky Boys since it has more on this menu. I get their philly sandwhichs as well as their Fajita Dinner which can easily knock you out. TKO The service is better than a lot of small stops as well and their seasoned fries are nice fresh and hot! Good price too!

  • Bethany E.

Love this place. I'm a vegetarian and can only have a few things, but one of those is the avocado grinder. YUM! Nothing fancy, so don't come here if you're not comfortable with a sidewalk sandwich shop. Great value, always easy to pick up, convenient location.

  • G B.

In my never-ending quest for an affordable grilled chicken sandwich, I came across Connal's. I like Connal's a lot- it is a super casual pseudo diner in the far reaches of Pasadena. And the grilled chicken sandwich is pretty good (though heavy on the mayo). I also enjoy their ample fries, but the shakes never quite do it for me.

  • Madeline M.

Nothing better than finding a great place to eat in my own neighborhood. I had to pick up sandwiches here, and only heard one recommendation from a person I met on a plane who I eventually became friends with. But, I digress! I only ordered two fairly run of the mill sandwiches. My turkey breast on wheat was delish!!!! And I'm not particularly fond of sandwiches at all. I ordered a turkey and ham combo on rye for my friend and he said he really liked it! I'm so glad I finally made it here. It was well worth it, and the prices are fairly reasonable with ample parking. The next time I'm going somewhere on a long motorcycle ride, I'm definitely going to make this my go-to place!!!

  • Sally W.

Avocado grinder! It's a stretchy-pants California thing (wow, is that ever an oxymoron)... every once in a while. Mmm. Also good, I'm told: tuna grinder. And do they still have soft-serve ice cream in those strange, papery-crunch cones? But now, I'm longing for one of those milkshakes everyone is Yelping about. Hint: phone in your order, and it's always ready by the time you get there, even if you live really, really close.

  • Amy H.

Delicious and cheap! My kinda place. I would usually go and get something new every time, so I've had many items on the menu, and I have yet to be disappointed. I would love to go more often, although my waist line wouldn't appreciate it. Definitely a great lunch place with plenty to choose from! The fries are fantastic and huge, so there is plenty for sharing!

    (5)
  • Mike B.

I love their bacon breakfast burrito. I wish they served them all day. Breakfast menu ends at 10:30am. I like that you can phone your order in and it will be ready. They refurbished the inside dining area to look like a 50's diner.

  • Michael Troy K.

I've been coming here since I was a wee lad...love the Pastrami..oh and the Fries are bombay! Just had breakfast for the first time here and I was pleasantly surprised...breakfast burrito not quite as good as lucky boy's but it held it's own!

way better than tops. try beef/lamb gyro sandwich or plate. there's a cheeseburger combo for like $6 the chili cheese fries are dam good (eat them with the ranch) there is a ridiculously awesome shakes menu make sure u try at least one each time u go there. they have pasadena weekly's in the restaurant pick one up and learn about all the fucked up things going on in the local government and for upcoming events/concerts the listing sucks ass compared to l.a. weekly but it still gives u some events and restaurant listings. the staff are cool they get u anything u want immediately the only thing that sucks is one lady employee who has to scream the numbers of the ready orders in an extreme high pitch voice that is ouder than anything else in the restaurant including all the customers combined! no joke. also she's superanal about charging u 35 cents for ranch theres a selection of mexican foods like tacoes/burritos n shit but ive never tried them here. its almost always burgers/gyros/chili cheese fries overall its a decent fast food joint wtf do u expect ?!?!?

    (4)
  • Lisa D.

I think the other reviewers are smoking something. I think Connal's serves a great burger. I never once got the avocado fries that are mentioned below, but their fried zucchini is the side to order. You can't stop eating them. The fries have always been great as well. The best advice is to order ahead on the phone and come pick it up to enjoy at home.

    (4)
  • Maral A.

The food used to be so much better. I worked there when I was in high school. well actually, my dad owned it for 2 years and I was slave labor. I miss all the free milk-shakes! that's the one thing they haven't screwed up! yeah!!! I used to ditch school, and I'd promise the security guards I'd bring them back burgers and fries, so I never got busted. huraa for bribes :0

This little spot is really good. My friend Terry Slick recommended this spot to me. I live in the SFvalley so when I was down in Dena I decided I would give it a try. The burgers are pretty good...the fries are so yummy... the good thing about this place is that the french fries portion is HUGE. I could never find my self finishing them. They have shakes and ice cream frostys which is a plus. I go there anytime I am down in Dena. The staff is very friendly. Def. recommend you try it out and see for your self.

  • Susan C.

It seems that Connal's used to be better in the past, and I'm a little pissed I didn't know about it earlier...because I think it's pretty awesome as is. A small sandwich joint that has lengthy lines both inside and at the takeout window, Connal's has large portions and huge menu of stuff that is probably really bad for you. Here's a link to a menu (hope that's okay, Yelp police!): sangabrielvalleymenus.co… The pastrami is excellent. Very salty, but that's how I like it. Connal's is the type of place that makes me wish I could give no regards to my health or nutritional intake and just eat there, in my sweatpants, everyday.

    (4)
  • Paul L.

Best spot for local sandwiches! They have everything pretty much from burgers to salads and combination plates. Turkey club BLT sand which with some well done fries is the way to go here! So good! Also their Connal special sprite!

By far one of the greatest gyro I have had in a while. Holy cow they put a lot of meat in it lol love it and highly recommend their gyros !!

  • Alega B.

Love their food, most of it. Couple of bad experiences. Over priced. The one thing is the lady with the glasses needs to go !!! Olga is her name. She is rude. No customer service skills at all. I eat here almost every weekday. Everybody else is great and even the owners. They would get a 4 star without her

Not exactly the all-American classic local joint I was expecting, but they sure do make one satisfying sub. We were looking for a good sandwich spot after hiking in a nearby area, and were intrigued by the positive reviews and their reputation as a Pasadena mainstay since 1958. Expecting to get a bit of local flavor along with our meal, I was a little disappointed to find a rather small and cramped space, decorated in a cheesy faux 50's throwback, that almost makes Ruby's look authentic. The menu wasn't any more classic, offering a large mix of everything from burritos and taquito plates to burgers, grinders and shakes. I'm guessing the menu has expanded just a bit since the 50's. We ended up ordering a turkey avocado grinder and a philly cheese steak sandwich from the less than friendly cashier. The cheese steak was pretty mundane, with the meat, cheese and bread all being equally uneventful. I hardly remember how it tasted. But the turkey avocado grinder was quite delicious. There was a generous serving of fresh turkey and veggies on a nicely textured bread, that was dusted with just the right amount of italian dressing. I wouldn't say it was impressively good, but it was refreshing and satisfying at the same time. So even though the menu and staff here resembles more of a generic fast food cafe than a classic local favorite, the sandwiches are pretty good in their own right. And since that's what we came here for, I can say that I was pretty satisfied. But don't expect too much from this place just because it's been around forever. Because with the amount of competition and innovation that's going on in the sandwich game right now, history can only take you so far.

We ordered the tuna melt, and patty melt. Both really good. A bit greasy and I get it. My problem was, they messed up our order. We both wanted sourdough bread. Hubby got rye bread. The tables were all dirty... I understand that people eat on them, and they don't clean up after themselves. I get that too... But, it would be nice if someone would come out and clean up the tables every hour or so.

Want a nice two inch glob of plain tasteless roast beef dip meat on dried up bread? Dippy sauce didn't help that mess either. But that wasn't what I had ordered. I ordered a cold roast beef sandwich. Did I say dip? Took it back and waited while they just stood around talking and ignoring me. Then they asked me how I want it prepared. The way you normally cook it except without the tomato. Uuuuh, last I heard is that you guys are the chefs. So they gave me a plain dried up bun with a cold two inch high stack of tasteless horrible cold beef on dried hard bread. No mustard, no lettuce, no mayo, no onions. Nothing!!! I ate almost half and took the rest for my mom. She didn't like it either. Tossed it in the trash. So small inside and the noise level is very loud if more then six people are talking. Thank goodness that party of four left, now we could hear ourselves talk. Of course you could sit outside on the patio. But first you have to order your food, then go sit behind the building on the patio. What? You thought that the patio was something spectacular. Just old tables and chairs with a view of the parking lot and dumpster. \ Inside are a few 50's signs, nothing spectacular. The tables wern't clean. Perhaps it was the little rush that they had, but with all those people there and the place being so tiny, it could have taken a mere five minutes or less to clean this place.

This is some classic American eating, Pasadenians. Everyone has different opinions; but they're mostly wrong. Connal's has the BEST Pastrami in California. This is a classic burger joint with a thorough and delicious menu (pastrami on burgers). Price range is fair for what you get: A heaping helping of amazingly tasty, mastadonically meaty, catastrophically cheesy goodness. About $10 grants you a Pastrami Combo (fries/drink) that comes split for easy sharing. The french loaf was freshly baked and flaky to the touch. Juicy stacks of salty carved meat, piled high with pickles n mustard. Ohh yea, you know what I'm talking about.. It's like smooth jazz for your tastebuds. Call me biased. Call me one-sided. Call me...maybe? Not much else to say. If you're thinking of eating here; you have thought correctly.

  • Andy O.

There was some girl standing outside who looks like she eats at Connal's all the time, so I asked her for a suggestion. "Everybody gets the cheeseburger combo. You can't go wrong." She obviously lied to me, since it looks like most people get, you know, sandwiches. Still, the combo was super cheap for the amount of food you get (tons of fries and a giant drink, no baby-size combo nonsense), and the food was decent. I wouldn't say it was amazing by any means, but, you know, sandwiches.

  • Ann W.

This is a fun little hole in the wall (with a big sign atop that's hidden by an even bigger tree if you're headed east). The inside is a charming throwback into yesteryears. And the food is classic grilled items, sandwiches and some Mexican fare. I especially like the variety of drinks... not just fountains, but slushes and more. My favorites: pineapple coconut slush, guacamole smothered fries and Philly cheesesteak... about $14 for this hearty combo.

  • Franklin M.

Old school restaurant open since 1958. They have a lot of items on the menu so I didn't really know what they were famous for, so I went for the chili cheese burger combo which comes with fries and a drink. I have been trying out all the chili cheese burgers in LA County one by one and this one was okay, nothing special. That's why they get 3 stars for the food and 5 stars for the nostalgia, friendly, and fast service.

I am normally a huge sandwich lover but unfortunately the burger was much tastier than the Grinder sandwich. So I suggest sticking with burgers if you are coming here.

Food is fantastic but workers suck. I placed an order due to my busy schedule, came to pick up 20 minutes later to see that they didn't even put my order. They always mess up on orders and treat customers with disrespect. I don't expect top attitude from a hole in the wall sandwich shop but still, its a business based on customer satisfaction. Other than that, their zucchini fries, Santa Fe salad, avocado bacon cheeseburger, chilli cheeseburger and chilli cheese fries are amazing. And it's CASH ONLY so come prepared

This place has a great bacon avocado cheeseburger as well as a delicious turkey club BLT sandwich. Not to mention, their chocolate banana milkshake will have you in a state of ecstasy.

Needed a quick bite so got the pastrami sandwich to go...sadly the pastrami was rather too stringy and fatty (I'm from NYC, I know pastrami!), although the portion size was generous. That said, I would get the horchata smoothie again - it was an extra-cold and smooth take on the usual horchata, with enough cinnamon for flavor but not so much that my SO disliked it.

Have tried several things on the menu and everything has been good. I usually get the fish sandwich to go. Big piece. Sometimes with sweet potato fries. Good when I get the craving to be bad! Fast service and really friendly people.

2014 YELP 365 CHALLENGE - 233/365 Really delicious sandwiches here. I got the Cheesesteak sandwich and a friend got the Turkey sandwich. Both were great! The meat in my cheesesteak was so tender, not at all chewy, very juicy and flavorful. Just the right amount of cheese, and the bun was great, didn't get soggy at all. The best cheesesteak i've had in a while. Unfortunately, our order was wrong. I asked for two large drinks, repeated it it twice and she still only charged me and gave me one drink. Since I was getting to-go, and since she didn't charge me for 2 drinks, I left without making a huff. I was also annoyed with the cash only BS too. Really, cash only? And the chilli cheese fries we ordered.... had no chilli on them. They were just cheesefries. Tasteless, boring, bland cheese fries. NOT what I ordered. I get that they're busy but they really need to listen carefully.

Awesome fries and pastrami here.....the fries alone is what keeps me coming back here....and I recently discovered that I could get em as chili cheese fries....awesomeness to the next level.

Tried the ground beef burrito yesterday for the first time trying to be different & I hate to say this kuz I love this place but it was terrible I'll stick to the burger & fries lol

I had an avocado cheeseburger with fries and my fiancé had a tuna sandwich. The burger was great, lots of fresh veggies! The fries were crisp and had the perfect amount of salt. The reason I'm only giving it 4 stars is because they only take cash even though they have a credit machine AND my fiancé went to use the restrooms and said it was disgusting. So, bring cash and skip the restroom.

Came here for zucchini fries, philly cheesesteak (which came with fries), and a turkey burger. Everything was big and tasty (part my review, part my husband's). Everything was a touch on the salty side, but I suspect that's the nature of fast-food. Overall, we didn't wait too long to receive our order (maybe about 10-15 minutes). Glad to have a place like this nearby! Cash only.

This place is okay. That's about it. So far I've tried their Philly Cheese Steak and their Fried Zucchini. The Philly Cheese Steak was acceptable; I guess I would eat it if someone handed it to me. The Fried Zucchini was really good for the first 4-5 sticks, and then I began to realize just how SALTY they are. The side of Fried Zucchini is a fairly large portion which I normally would have no problem finishing.. but they were so salty that I struggled to finish them. And this is coming from a marathon runner who is known for eating two full plates of dinner, followed by a bowl or two of cereal. I still can't believe how salty the Fried Zucchini was. I probably consumed about 3 days worth of sodium in that side portion alone. I live about 5 minutes walk from this place, so this likely isn't the last time I'll visit. That said, I probably wouldn't actively seek to go to this place again unless other local joints are not open at that hour.

Awesome greasy junk food. Great burgers, great fries, great sandwiches! I had terrible acid reflux because of how many fries I ingested. If you're approaching 30, bring Tums. I'm down though! I will definitely go back. Nowadays, I can't do places like this more than once a month or two.

One of the OG spots in Pasadena...menu has been the same since the 90's that being said this place is a hit and miss....burgers are ok fries are really good

Super great service here, super fast also which is a bonus! I adore the grilled cheese with bacon and the fried chicken sandwich is awesome!! Can never go wrong with some crunchy fries with ranch!

  • DianaLee B.

The chicken salad =Romaine, Spring mix with arugula, a touch of iceberg, cherry tomatoes, radish, cucumber, croutons and a generous portion of juicy grilled CHIX. No wonder I see a lot of local movie/TV crews ordering up here! Never had a bad meal. The Mexican fare is good. The burgers are delicious and I am a fan of the pastrami and now the grilled chicken salad! Try it if you're in a hurry and want something good fast.

  • Deb T.

If you are looking for a good burger guaranteed to put you in a food coma than this is the place for you! I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and was down for the count when I got back to work. However, it was worth the zoning out because it was delicious. I did order a burrito and I didn't like it all so definitely stick to the burgers and sandwiches. The parking lot is nice size and there is a separate window to order if you are in a hurry. Not a bad place to eat!

Came here for the first time after checking yelp reviews thought it wouldn't be a bad spot to check out since I'm close by. WRONGGGGGGGG IDEAAAAAA. I got a burrito combo my friend Got a Philly cheesesteak combo and my other friend got a steak sandwich combo when we got our food we asked for ranch lady only gave us one ranch for three meals we asked for two more she said it is $.50 each so I Astor only one ranch for one order she said yes that's one. After all of us taking a bite of our foods none of the food was good for me quality soggy bread not cooked well and the steak had all fat in it it was more like a fat oil sandwich.and then when I went to ask for water after drinking lemonade they wanted to charge me now that was unbelievable the only good thing I would have to say about this place is the French fries. If you like to only eat french fries this is the place for you other than that do not enter not a through street turn around dead end.

Best Philly Cheesesteak and Chili Cheese Fries everrrrrrrrr!!!!! I came here for lunch today and Omg, so good. They give so much meat and it's super juicy. The sandwich comes wrapped, but don't open it all the way. I made that mistake and a bunch of meat and sauce came pouring out. The fries were thick and the perfect texture. There was a perfect mixture between cheese and chili so that neither was overpowering. Perfect consistency too. Recommendation: put some fries inside the sandwich. Tip: bring cash, it's cash only. Bring some water to wash/wipe your hands. I didn't see a restroom.

Come here every time I'm in town, this place is delicious! The sandwiches are very good my favorite is the turkey club and the bacon is nice thick lean slices and is cooked perfectly every time. The seasoned fries are great, thick cut and seasoned.

    (4)
  • Kat M.

I love the sandwiches here...great value for money!! My favorite is the french dip with Frings, and the grilled ham and cheese!! Both are so filling you can't finish them, always made fresh, and super yummy in my books!! They also have killer breakfast deals.... Less than $10.00 gets you beyond full!

I've been here three times and before I actually write my review "I MUST VENT" What a bunch of #@$ Holes these people are, they act like "Hey we've been here since 1958, you don't like it?" NEXT...... and it's not just one person, I've been helped by a different "LADY" each time I visited, service with a smile.... Not here! The food is good, certain items a bit pricy IMO for a burger stand, the ONLY thing I've had that Wowed me was the Fried Zucchini (5 star), other than that it's AVG/GOOD+ (3/4 star food) Breakfast Burrito - Super Egg - yelp.com/biz_photos/sand… Yeah it's the size of a small baby! but Bigger is not always better. The "Super Egg" is made with 3 eggs, hash browns, cheese and 3 meats... bacon, ham & sausage! ME: HI Can I get the Super Egg Breakfast Burrito ALL BACON... no ham or sausage just Bacon, Bacon, Bacon? Lady: NO, We can't do that! if you want a Bacon Breakfast Burrito we have those. ME: Yeah, I can see that on the menu I just wanted the extra BACON Lady: NO, We can't do that! ME: OK, I'll have the Super Egg Breakfast Burrito, NO Pico de Gallo but your Salsa Roja please! The food is ready but NO salsa roja!, I ask for (2) TWO of the small containers yelp.com/biz_photos/sand… and she says NO I can only give you (1) ONE...... (((SERIOUSLY))) do I need to climb over the counter? look at the size of this thing, so she spoke in spanish to one of the guys who brought over the salsa. Hey Lady guess what? I'm Mexican y Yo Comprende Espanol, just because I don't have the face of a cactus like you! Back to the Breakfast Burrito, this is where Bigger isn't always better yelp.com/biz_photos/sand… unless you love has browns! I prefer my eggs scrambled these are cooked thin and flat like an omelet, a couple strips of bacon, a couple sausage links and some chopped up thick sliced ham, with the addition of their salsa roja the burrito was good like 3-star but nothing to wow me, though props for have a nice salsa! Visit (2) I had the same Breakfast Burrito.... ME: NO Pico de Gallo PLEASE, but can I have the Salsa Roja inside the burrito? Different Lady: I DON'T CARE, I'm not the one eating it!!!..... ME: (((SCRATCHES HEAD))) Do I tell her something and risk them spitting in my Burrito? Nah, that's what Yelp is for! Fried Zucchini - yelp.com/biz_photos/sand… Now for me these were a 5 Star Hit.... I like zucchini cut in smaller pieces like this that way they hold a bit of their firmness, they were nicely battered and fried to perfection! yelp.com/biz_photos/sand… 5-Star Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich - yelp.com/biz_photos/sand… "IF" I remember correctly this was listed under SUB Sandwiches so I was surprised when I got it on sour dough bread if I remember correctly.... it's a deconstructed cordon bleu as all the components are separated where your typical cordon bleu the chicken is stuffed. yelp.com/biz_photos/sand… a nicely grilled chicken breast, a thick cut of ham, lettuce, tomato and mayo, yelp.com/biz_photos/sand… though cordon blue typically has Swiss Cheese I don't remember the sandwich having any, but taste wise was very good. 4/4.5-Star Food 3.5/4 Star Average Customer Service (((SUCKS)))

  • Vardan P.

The food is good for not a lot of money you get a lot and maybe even some for later. The fact that they don't take credit cards, what day in the age of society do you live in " to owner please don't be cheap and invest in a machine " . Service also needs a major clean up, the employees are beyond rude, lazy and well just undertrained. I'll probably be sticking with tops

All u hear at the tables after each bite is WOW ! really the back eat kinda sandwiches. . Authentic. Fresh. Good. Fries are great n big really too much food but the sandwich is so woRth every bite n calorie

I've only had their turkey sandwich fries and coke here. And their ranch. OHHH the creamy ranch :) So good. They throw a bit too much lettuce on the sandwich, but that can easily be taken out. If you want extra ranch, be ready to pay or fight for it. The French fries are crispy and squishy at the same time. Also amazing.

I am giving Connels a big 5 stars based solely on their fried zucchini and delicious looking menu. It's not everyday you find seasoned zucchini at a corner burger joint. Yum yum. Wish I ordered more but my full size order and ice cold Coke hit the spot. Numerous other options include roast beef dip sandwiches, steak, Philly, gyyros, turkey, carna asada, corn dogs, fish and chips and a ton more. Clean, cheery, conveinant. Great walk up up window and bright indoor seating. I will add this place to my must try again list!

  • Katie L.

My husband and I love everything we've tried. I'm a big fan of the Philly on wheat bread. But, be sure to have a fork ready - it can get a little messy on the wheat bread. Also, they only take cash. Totally great food!

    (5)
  • John S.

Very good food! Quick and easy. If you are vegetarian or not they have options for you. The chicken salad is awesome! Oh and the ice cream! One of the goto's in Pasadena Altadena area!

  • Kristelle C.

I wanna like these guys, because they do have one of the best cheesesteaks, milk shakes are bomb, and if their fresh, the fries are really good, however no matter how many chances I give this place, they just can't seem to get my order right!! So annoying, especially since I live so far from this place and every single time they mess my order up, I have to drive back to get my refund! And their customer service can really step it up a couple notches, the older man and woman (high pitched voice) are not friendly. Management, please fix this, cause I really do want to come back, but not soon.

    (2)
  • Jordan A.

I only come here for the fries because they are good and in generous supply. Other than that, I would not make a trip for their burgers or other items. I do not particularly like their parking or that it's cash only.

    (3)
  • Aileen L.

Try their Connell special drink. It's 7Up with Cherry syrup with lemon & lime. Very refreshing.

    (3)
  • Scott S.

They have an ATM, but choose not to accept credit cards, even though their cash registers clearly have the capability. It's one of those places. The chicken sandwich is good, though, especially the flavored mayonnaise. Eight dollars good? Probably not. They have a built-in audience so there's no reason for them to get any better. As long as you're cool with a transactional dining experience, this place should be fine.

    (2)
  • Greg B.

Shady ass owner. 5 onions rings in an order. Are you kidding me!!!!!! I was coming here only for the frings and know never coming here again. I only get the club bevause everything else is like McDonald food. The portion get smaller and prices go up every week for some reason. I complained and the guy said the boss said that's what it is.

    (1)
  • Nick M.

I'm a fan of mom & pop burger and sandwich shops. I find the service and the quality of food to far exceed the price. Connal's is no different and I appreciate that. The burgers and fries are very generous, well cooked and in my opinion better than lucky boy's. They have over a dozen flavors of shakes and the food is always fresh and ready. If you're looking for a burger and fries and tired of topps and Everest, this is worth a stop.

    (4)
  • Anthony L.

I've been coming here for a while and have had a lot of different items on the menu. It's never good, but it's never bad. I'll definitely be eating there more in the future. I think they're cash only.

    (3)
  • Victoria T.

It's CASH ONLY! There is also an ATM however. My husband used to live in Pasadena while we were dating and we used to go here all the time on our dates. They have the most amazing fries! I don't know what the seasonings are but they are so addictive. WARNING!! Share the fries with a friend, the bag of fries you get with a combo is HUGE so you don't need more than 1 combo. My husband and I always get a combo #1 with an extra JR Burger on the side for me since we share the fries (and there's always left overs) and the drink. The drink to get here is the "Connal's Special"! The zucchini with ranch are also amazing. There's a parking lot, and indoor and outdoor seating.

    (5)
  • Karina S.

I'm absolutely in love with their milkshakes. My family and I came hungry and left incredible satisfied. We don't often eat fast food but when we do we eat at Connal's sandwich stop. What won me over is their milkshake, it's just milk and ice cream. Proportioned to perfection! Family friendly and deliciously satisfying.

  • Lorri E.

Had a decent Philly cheesesteak here. Excellent price! Friendly service. Enough said.

    (4)
  • Herbert D.

The pastrami sandwich is so good and the portions are really generous. Food is quick and lots of options. The fries and onion rings called frings are really tasty and big enough for sharing. A must try.

I love their volume and taste. I often go there and trying different menu, but nothing more satisfying than Avocado Burger for me.

  • Mark T.

We found his place by passing by a couple of weeks ago and decided today to try it. It took us 10 minutes to look at all the different array of sandwiches on the wall. We asked people in line what they usually order and everyone has a different answer which is always a good sign. I got the number 9 steak sandwich combo and substituted the fries for the avocado fries. The steak sandwich was juicy and amazing. The avocade fries were good they have a spicy kick to them, I just wanted it to be a little thicker. My wife got the number 9 steak sandwich with extra cheese, fries and a drink. As great as the steak sandwich was I took one bite of her Philly cheesesteak and fell in love. best Philly I've ever had in California. I want to try everything on the menu this is definitely a 4 star spot going on five stars once I try more menu items. I will definitely be back soon with the whole family.

mmmmmmmm.......pastrami with mustard and pickles. And the fries never disappoint.

    (5)
  • Joe N.

Foods good... but racist.. just got charged 35cent for ranch after a $13.00 order. But the Mexican dude in front of me got like 3 sides for free. So if you want free ranch ask in spanish. Damn immigrants.

    (1)
  • Sean O.

Heads up, cash only! Great sandwich joint. Probably the best Philly Cheesesteak I've had, taste wise. However, it was quite unwieldy, so I had to fork and knife it, which undermines the very idea of a sandwich, I know, but damn it was good.

  • Ayumi S.

Went here with the bf on Sunday night. The parking lot was closed, so we had to park on the street..which there is tons of spaces available. They have a good amount of options, but I just decided to get me the chicken salad, and bf got the chicken sammich. He loves that sammich.. We also got a side of onion rings. Extra onion on everythanggg! The cashier noticed that we are onion fanatics.. :p Took a bit of time, but nothing too crazy. The salad was a HUGE portion, with tons of chicken on it. We also got 4 sides of ranch. Comes with tomatoes, cheese, croutons, and radish. Their chicken is extra juicy, and the seasoning on it is super delicious. The onion rings were perfect. They have some seasoning salt on it as well, it had a good unique flavor. Definitely a fan. :] Oh yeah, and it's also pretty friggin' cheap!

    (4)
  • Keith B.

The ham grinder and tuna melt left something to be desired, and the fries were underdone, but the asada taco was good. Grinder was supposed to come with provolone, but came with shredded 4-cheese (mexican?) blend. Tuna melt was sweet from having sweet relish added to the mix, and no mustard (even packets) available at the takeout window. Honestly, this place feels like a taqueria that reluctantly serves sandwiches. I'll go back, but I'll definitely order something different. I hope I got a bad example of their food, cause the place has been a Pasadena institution for decades!

    (2)
  • Mike A.

I've been coming to this place for over 15 years never do they fail to please their friends are amazing and their Connells special drink is to die for definitely would recommend this to anybody that's in town thank you Tony

Came here because Burrito Express was closed and baby girl needed dinner. First of all the guy at the register was rude. He just ignored me for the first few minutes. Just got a plain bean n cheese burrito and small cup of milk for almost $6!!! Seriously. Then he barks at me that they are cash only when I hand him my debit card. No he doesn't bother to tell me there is an ATM inside. We go inside to eat and it's disgusting. All the tables have old food on them, food all over the floor. I slipped on French fries! When we went to throw our trash away it was so full it fell back out onto my feet and my arm had some sort of white goo all over it. I know it's a landmark n the burrito was ok meh really but never been so grossed out before!

    (2)
  • Lisa D.

Street and small parking lot. Limited indoor seats for dining. Cash only but they have a ATM machine inside. You gotta ask for the key to go to the bathroom. I got one of their top burgers, the bacon avocado cheeseburger combo. Which I thought tasted alright. It didn't knock my socks off or anything. My boyfriend ordered the steak sandwich. He has tried many different steak sandwiches before and it wasn't the best but one of the better ones that he has had. Fries is a pretty large portion. Its enough to share between two people. The fries were like the typical mom and pops burger joints. Nothing super special. They have a huge menu selection which I might consider coming back to try. Service was fair. You gotta make sure you clean up after yourself.

Neighborhood standby. Good variety of choices. Same friendly staff has been there for a long time. Wait times are usually pretty good but call ahead if you want to save a little time. Only downside is that payment is cash only.

I ate lunch at Sandwiches by Connal's in Pasadena, CA on 1/28/2014. It was my 2nd time there. This time I tried their Combo #11 (Philly Cheesesteak) for $8.39. It was very good - maybe my best cheesesteak ever. Plus, I took photos.

  • Courtney A.

I highly recommend this establishment for the pastrami quesadilla . Pastrami of course , pico de gallo, sliced avocado and cheese in a big flour tortilla. Also, the fried zucchini has a really nice crunch and is not soggy like a lot of other places. Both food items are very delicious...you won't be disappointed!

    (4)
  • Kevin S.

Good reliable burger shack. I like their chili.

    (4)
  • Rafi B.

The best sandwiches in Pasadena. Their fat fries are simply the best. Once you've gone there couple of times, they will remember and know you and your order.

  • G.C. R.

YELP has been letting me down since I moved into this part of Pasadena. I can tell people like Connal's for after church and after sports family type activities but I does not deserve suck a high rating. The food is good enough for hungry kids after T-ball, maybe. I've eaten 5 different menu items and found them all fairly bland and greasy. I think it's basically a situation where a Sysco truck backs up to the freezer on Monday and they thaw the food for the rest of the week. The menu has too many options for this to be otherwise. prices are OK for the quantity of food but don't expect deliciousness. And if you're looking for Pastrami drive west to the Oinkster

  • KeepitReal C.

Can't go wrong with their sandwiches! Filling! They have the best French fries if cooked right but it's always 80/20 when you asked for well done. What I mean by that is most of the time they'll throw in already made French fries back into the fryer so the French fries are more oily, mushy and not the right crispy :( get it together and give us fresh fries !!.......... Also customer service depends on their mood. .. The employees usually give off a negative vibe if you take an order back. It's not my fault you can't get my French fries right. Dicks.

    (1)
  • Tuyet N.

We go here when we want comfort food! The fried zucchini is probably one of the best I've had around! The burgers are big and tasty. The green fries are pretty good but they tend to get soggy if you get them for take out and have to drive 15- 20 mins before getting to them. Both beef and turkey burgers are well seasoned and delish. I got the double burger once when I was super hungry and believe me... It's freakin huge! Good prices and fast service!

Upside: food is good. Downside: cash only. But I rarely bother to get cash to eat here because there are better places that don't require cash.

Delicious and reasonable! Went for breakfast and I loved my egg and bacon burrito and my wife was happy with her egg & sausage on crescent! The onion rings looked tempting so even though it was 9am we went for it....some of the best rings I've ever had! We will be back soon to try the lunch menu!!!y

Nice staff. Ordered pastrami sandwich with mayo and order of fried zucchini. Fried zucchini was perfectly cooked with a nice crunchy coating. The sandwich however was a disappointment. Bread was dry. Pastrami was dry. Even the mayo didn't help the moisture :( Will give it another try next week. Came in 1week later to try their fish sandwich. Found many bone in one of the fillets! Struck out twice with their sandwiches :(

Have you taken your kids to McDonalds lately? If not, prepare to get robbed. I can't speak beyond burgers, but Connal's is McDonald's done better and cheaper with more generous portions. Love the fries. If it wasn't cash only I would go here more often just to get the fries. This is my neighborhood and I'm glad Connal's is here. Five stars for being a great local burger place. There's a reason there's always a line outside. This place delivers value.

  • Bella B.

When you want some good ol' fashioned American food this is the place. I've been eating here all my life. Don't come here with expectations of a five star restaurant and also it helps to know what to order. Their grinders are absolutely delicious and their fried zucchini is THE BEST and their fries as well. The servings are very generous and the price is right, also their milkshakes are very yummy. I love this place because I always know what I'm going to get and when I'm in the mood for their food, it's the best thing ever. So give it a shot and if you're one of those low-star raters try ordering something else!

    (5)
  • Delena B.

Best fries in dena hands down. Good service great food I don't think I've had anything bad here. The turkey grinder is so damn good. & the burgers are on point every time. If u wanna get a lil something sweet to drink I suggest the Connells Special you will not be disappointed.

  • Lauren E.

I have only done the breakfast thing here so it surprised me that I didn't really see any reviews for breakfast! The breakfast burritos are a great filling breakfast when driving to Lucky Boys is not going to happen. The burritos are good, not blow your mind good, but satisfying and filling. Finally ordered the French toast and it was okay. Again, not blow your mind good, but not awful. Though next time I come here for breakfast I'm sticking with a burrito. Price is good, they really need to get with the program and start taking cards though. Overall the place satisfies. There are better breakfast places in Pasadena/Altadena, but when the bf offers to pick this up I don't say no

  • Linda C.

So for what it is, they get a solid 3 star. A hole in the wall diner fast food joint. I like the nostalgia they bring. Their burgers are made with one of those preformed frozen pattys, but what do you expect for the price? They also serve hot dogs, sandwiches, burritos etc. I've had their sandwiches and my husband is a fan of their reuben. I love their shakes and fries. They have the nice thick cut fries that are creamy in the inside and crunchy on the outside and coated in season salt. I am a fan of the season salt! I have gotten it for my niece and nephew for an afterschool snack. They also have a breakfast menu that i wanna give a try. I am a sucker for the hole in the wall diner style soggy french toast.

The food here is simple and delicious. The breakfast is perfect for soaking up the hangover, and the lunches fill you up in such a special way. The place is cash only, so be ready, and seating inside is super cramped. They fix these issues though by having an ATM and a walk up window so you can get your food to go. You can also call ahead so your food is ready when you get there. This is place is nothing fancy, but they get the simple stuff so right. The prices are great, the food is outstanding, and you feel good for helping this place stay open.

Connal's has old school food with an old school vibe. The turkey grinder was simple and tasty. I believe it was just around $5 or a bit over for a huge sandwich. The Connal's Special drink sounded intriguing, but it was really gross to be quite honest. I believe it was Sprite with grenadine and a bit of lime, but it just tasted like cough syrup. Yes, this place isn't anything that's going to impress you to the point of knocking your socks off, but it's a good place to come and get some simple food. And sometimes, you just want a good, simple sandwich. CASH ONLY

I've been to this place a couple of times, the food is pretty good, nothing in the menu stands out too much. Somewhat pricey for fast food. Never had a great or bad experience till recently, I was in the mood for smoothies, I usually get the mango one but unfortunately they didn't have any mango, I saw they had watermelon smoothies which sounds delicious but once I tasted it, it was DISGUSTING. I work in the food service industry so I didn't want to make a big deal about it, I asked the server(Olga) if I could replace it for another, she gave me the biggest attitude and said I couldn't. So I asked for my money back even that she didn't want to do, she obliviously doesn't know how to handle complaints. Won't ever go back

Despite reviews to the contrary, I quite enjoyed the French Dip! Next time I go, I'll definitely spring for fries, because I immediately regretted not ordering any! My coworkers all ordered them, and they smelled soooo good. The interior has a bit of a diner feel to it, but I don't know that people come here for the ambiance.

met up with friend who works near here for lunch. i've actually never really eaten in north pasadena, so this was a nice treat. it's take out or order in. they have a little window if you're a quick take out order. inside seating is much like any other old school diner with bright reds and white stripes. we split a large side of fries topped with guacamole and beef. fries were nice and crispy and the guac just a hint of spicy. the beef was a good pairing, but we both wished there was some seasoning on the fries to make the taste bolder. i also got a chicken breast sandwich, which was tender and HUGE! could not finish the whole thing, so leftovers it was! lots of diner food... (burgers, tacos, fries, pastrami, sammies, salads, milkshakes) good for those who want a quick but EXTREMELY FILLING meal (more like 2 meals) on the cheap!

I hadn't been to Connal's in at least 2 years before I stopped in the other day. I had a meeting in the area and when I got back to my car, I looked up to see the sign. Immediately, my mind was flooded with the taste of cheeseburgers and milkshakes. Like a powerless moth, I floated toward the doors and ate so much I thought I would stop breathing. If you're going to do it, make sure you order a peanut butter, chocolate & banana milkshake. If you regret it, I'll personally drive to your house so that you can punch me in the sternum. It's a great spot!

Avocado fries are yummy- basically a mildly spicy guacamole on good french fries. Also had the french dip. I know I shouldn't have expected it to taste like Philippes, but I did so I was super disappointed. It's roast beef lunch meat you can get from the grocery store on a roll. But its a ton of meat! Very, very large portions. Food came quick. Large menu, reasonably priced. Lots of desert options for low prices- I'll try that next time. The guy who took my order forgot to give me some of my change so I had to ask for that again. The place was clean as well.

Quaint little food stand. I tend to always hey the same thing but everyone I know peri much lives whatever they get. The shakes and malts are amazing by the way. It gets crowded fast and they only take cash guys. There is a tiny atm inside though! Indoor and outdoor seating, with that 50's dinner vibe. Very nice.

They have the best shakes made with fresh fruit any way you want it they will make it. You have to try the club sandwich. The prices are good too

Good food at a great price. If it has any negatives it's that it's menu is so expansive. Can take a while to decide what you want. Their malt milkshakes are particularly good.

Good Sand witches is really all it takes to make this place a great place. A was planning to visit this place since last month but yesterday got the chance to make a trip here. I must admit the taste was really something special but the the service wasn't that much fast as it should be but all in all a nice place to have some great food with reasonable price.

Came here for the first time and ordered a hamburger, a double hamburger, avocado fries and fried zucchini (to go) for the wife and I. It was $16 and some change. It's definitely a better deal if you get their combos but we wanted to try their famous green goo fries. The avocado fries and fried zucchini were awesome; both items have a nice tang and crunch. The burgers were average and satisfied our cravings. Overall, I now understand why there is a following. It's a great place if you feel like filling up with burger and fries. Will I come back? Definitely for the green fries and zucchini.

Generous sandwiches with fresh ingredients, but no real "magic" here; anybody can put some Genoa salami, provolone, shredded lettuce and oil/vinegar on a bun and call it a "grinder"... Go a little further East to Pasadena Sandwich Co., or even to Top's, unless you're really local (we walked). It'd be better if they had more combo sandwich options available. If you're in the area, and you're really hungry, line up and get some. The combinations are pretty good, but pricing a turkey burger combo the same as a gyro combo tells me somebody's not paying attention. Service is pretty quick and courteous; fries are generous and pretty good, too. There are 4 tables around the back if you don't want to eat inside.

I used to live in Pasadena but every time I come back I love to go and get the pastrami grinder and fries... It is pretty good but unfortunately over the years I feel like they have lost their touch. The quality of their food used to be a lot better, and their portions for their sandwiches however it has declined over the years. The prices aren't McDonalds cheap but for the quality it is worth spending a little more (less than $9 a person depending on what you order!)

Guy who took our order was a total jerk! CASH ONLY, ATM out of order!! One star for their fries which are amazing, and another star for their vanilla shakes which are pretty good, also.

I called up a good friend. "Burgers, we're eating them. Saturday," I said. "Connals," he said. "What is that, a diner? A restaurant?" I asked. "It's Connals. It's an institution, an institution for sandwiches" he said. And so we went. I walked in and I wasn't immediately impressed. It seemed small, divey. Fluorescent. But then we ate. We split a burger, a reuben, avocado fries, and I had a fountain soda with a shot of vanilla. Very old school. The shake machine was broken (sadness!!) or I would have had one of those too. The burger - diner classic. Nothing special but not bad. The reuben - ooooh la la, bless my heart and eat you twice!! The avocado fries - why is this not a thing? Forget the sweet potato fries, just do this everywhere at all the trendy places. So. Good. While we were in there, my friend met three guys he knows. It's just that kind of place. People go there and they keep going there forever. You can tell. The place has been around, it's got that kind of feel. I'll be back. And next time I will have one of those promised shakes. And another reuben. Maybe two.

Well, I would love to try their food, but I've gone three times now and, each time, someone was smoking by the order window (Pasadena city ordinance bans smoking within 20 feet). Thanks, but I'd rather not have my dinner with a side of carcinogen!!

Reminds me of Teddy's Bigger Burgers back home in Hawaii. This little burger joint is a great place for lunch! For $20 I was able to treat 4 people to full stomachs :) (Jr. Burger, Cheeseburgers, and I ordered the Veggie Burger.) We got milkshakes and fries - I especially like how the fries are a little thicker and have spices :) I liked the Veggie Burger and most importantly (for sandwiches and burgers alike) the bread to patty ratio was on the dot! Not too much or too little bread, just right. I hear they have avocado fries, so will definitely have to try it next time!

My best friend used to live extremely close to Connal's so we went here about three times per week. After going to college, I was not able to go back to this place for about 1 year. When I went back a week ago, I noticed the prices increased by 20%. I was in a hurry so I phoned my order. When I arrived, I was told to wait because they have not cooked my order yet! Connal's made me late to my appointment because I had to wait for them to cook my pickup phone order. What's the point of ordering by phone if I still have to wait for them to cook my food after I pay?

  • Philip D.

Well done (not as in over cooked) standard char burgers (for pre-formed patties) and sandwiches with friendly staff. I ordered a #2 - double cheeseburger, small fries and a soda $8.04 (12/9/13). The burger was nicely cooked, not overly greasy and not dry to the bone and the bun was fresh, fries are steak fries which are a little on the well done side (like I like them) with plenty of salt. I will be back multiple times for the food but not the ambiance (after all it is a quick serve restaurant).

This is a great post-hike eatery located at the foot of Eaton Canyon in Pasadena. ATMOSPHERE It's very old school (think 50's), and reminds me a lot of In-n-Out's decor (think black and white checkered tiles and red and white booths). There are also vintage ads on the wall that give it that extra personality. The workers are friendly and helpful. I took their recommendations and was very satisfied with what I had ordered. The bathrooms are outside (you have to get a key from the cashier) next to the patio. That said, this place is bigger than it looks. The main dining area is completely separate from the patio, which looks a lot like In-n-Out's patio (complete with round plastic tables and umbrellas). Also, for a hole-in-the-wall, this place is very clean! It's almost spotless. FOOD The menu is pretty extensive, but we finally settled with: 1) Pastrami burger 2) Grilled chicken submarine 3) Avocado fries The PASTRAMI BURGER looked delicious and it was packed with meaty goodness (as well as a huge layer of lettuce). It came with a thick chunk of pastrami on top of a beef patty. My friend really enjoyed it. The GRILLED CHICKEN SANDWICH was tasty as well, but the distribution of meat wasn't equal, making half of my sandwich too chickeny and the other half didn't have enough chicken. Regardless, the chicken was tender and well-seasoned (cajun-rub), and the veggies seemed fresh. It came with tomatoes, lettuce, and mayo on a French roll. The star of the meal was the AVOCADO FRIES, which are french fries covered in guacamole. Yes, you read correctly: guacamole. The guac was very fresh and Connals is VERY generous with the amount of guac they throw on top of these fries. It wasn't overpowering, but complemented the fries perfectly. I would come back just for the fries. Overall, I would definitely come back again to Connal's, but only if I'm in the area.

The original #1 is fantastic - a double cheeseburger, very generous fries, and a large drink, all at a low, low price. I've been a regular here for years and won't be stopping anytime soon.

  • Urb4n M.

I've had everything here. It's totally worth the drive and the $, no matter where you're coming from. If you're a connoisseur of deli sandwiches, this is a pit-stop that you must make. The grinders are fantastic, the slices and cuts of meats [turkey and pastrami to be specific] are too good to pass up and if you're vegetarian or vegan; you can get a great meal without having to compromise. Fresh Vegetables, friendly service [original cooks/servers for at least 20 years] and a wonderful dining atmosphere. Nothing special about the locale, just the food and the peeps. Check it out and bring an empty stomach if you're in 'Dena

I used to very close to here. It's your standard, hole-in-the-wall burger place, where they give you lots and lots of fries. Food here is pretty heavy, it's good. I just can't eat it too often. I think it's cash only.

It had been a while since I came here but I needed to go to Hrants auto shop and just happened to walk here to grab something. For fast food you cant beat this place. It was popular back in the day and it still is. Whatever you order will probably impress you as long as you stick t o the sandwich and other fast food items. You dont want to come here for a thanksgiving dinner though I always see couples here at night. Id give them 4/5 especially because they suprised me with mustard and mayo in the philly cheese but it was good despite it and Hrants auto body n ext door did me a solid so im feeling very positive.

Connal's is reliable diner-style food. If you're looking for burgers and sandwiches, it will suit your craving. (Although, for burgers, I do prefer In-N-Out, Everest or Tops.) I've had various sandwiches here over the years, but the top two for me are the turkey grinder and the roast beef, both w/o mayo (yuck!). I know it's a total diner dive, but it would be nice if there were more fresh, healthful options. The salads and even the lettuce used by Connal's, and seemingly every other diner like it, is always cheap and semi-wilty iceberg. The mentality seems to be that salads and wraps are an afterthought, which means that when I get up to order, I won't even bother trying to pick a low-carb or other semi-healthy option, and I'll just get a grinder. I know that asking for mixed baby greens or kale to be on the menu is probably a pipe dream, but can we at least get some romaine lettuce up in this joint? My other gripe is that this place is cash only! WHAA?! Get with the times, Connal's! It's not THAT expensive to set up an account with credit card companies. I won't even begrudge you if you don't team up with American Express, but at a minimum, you should enable customers to pay with Visa or MasterCard. It's junky to have to go inside and use their ATM and get saddled with processing fees.

    (3)
  • Brian C.

It's not a bad joint. The food is fairly priced, they don't accept cash, and you can get a burger with a lettuce wrap instead of bread if you're watching your carb intake. They generally serve portion sizes that are way out of control. I would keep this in mind if you plan to order any of their sides. The staff here is pretty chill, the food is not too shabby, and I once purchased a taco for a homeless guy here once. I believe he said his name was Saul. That's about it.

I have been eating here since Highschool and have eaten almost everthing off the menu, no exaggeration. There Connals Special is a Soda sent from the heavens. The Fries could feed a small nation, i always ended up leaving nothing. PASADENA LANDMARK!

12.11.10: So the bf loves this place, we decided to get a quick bite to eat. I ordered the pastrami sandwich, knowing that I will definitely not finish it. It was good, but not the greatest in the world, the cleanliness was okay, they could have done better. Their shake however was absolutely delicious! If I'm around again I will give it another try.

This is actually some pretty good fast food. The variety is nice - solid burgers, great grinders, and excellent carne asada burrito. They have a homemade roasted chile verde salsa which is better than most mexican restaurants. And the fries - I don't know what spices they put in them, but they're excellent. I also really like the chili dogs, as well as the pastrami (not quite the Hat, but excellent). I've really never had a bad meal from here, and I've tried so many things on the menu. Almost 5 stars - the wait can be awhile, and it's not too cheap. But I keep coming back, so I'll say 4.5 stars!

    (4)
  • Herbert K.

Honestly, it's a 4.5/5. The combination sub is the bomb-diggity. Get that! Service: 10/10 Ambience: 8/10 Value: 10/10 Taste: 9/10 Mind-Blasting Factor: 8/10 I heard about this place from a friend of mine who had previously visited this restaurant, and really liked it. He had told me about the pastrami dip sandwich, and how it was really good. Alright, I've got to try this place. From the outside, it's very unassuming, and seems like nothing has changed much since many decades ago. When you walk into the small dining area, those impressions do not fade, but are slightly permutated to a hopefully, more positive one. A bright red neon sign confirms that you're indeed at Connal's, but also that you've gone back in time. The old school coke decor dominates the room giving you a sense of nostalgia. Not that I would really know since I'm still pretty young, but I figured it would make my review of the place sound better, so...why not? You head up to the window to order and notice the ATM machine (shoot! cash only), and the menu that is absolutely inundated with items to add serious calories to your daily allowance (or lack thereof if you really stopped caring). There it was...this pastrami dip sandwich that lie in front of me. Flanked by an ice cold Diet-Coke on one side and a bag stuffed full of fries on the other. Already, the meat and bread was losing its grasp on the oh-so good juices that graced much flavor to the meat, because there was so much of it already. No worries, the meat was still very flavorful and oh-so tender. I was thoroughly impressed with these sandwiches (there's more to come!) because it was great on so many levels. Firstly, it was so dang cheap for the amount of food you get (it's more like..."Can I get some bread with all that meat!?"). The place could've easily charged in excess of $10 and it still would've been a good deal. The bread just soaked up all that delicious au jus so it added so much moisture to each individual bite. The meat was seasoned absolutely perfectly - it wasn't too salty, nor was it bland. There was this great peppery finish that nicely accented each bite. This was absolutely paramount as pastrami tends to be fairly heavy. A very subtle spiciness elevated this sandwich. The only thing that I personally thought was lacking in the sandwich was more pickles, as I thought the sour/tartness of the pickles should've been more pronounced to add more depth to the sandwich. But, that's just being nit-picky. Yes, it's not a gourmet sandwich, but it's a dang-good sandwich. The fries on the other hand were sub par. They're the medium cut fries, which I don't mind, but I thought they were slightly more on the soggy side - basically, I wanted more crunch. Honestly though, this isn't a big deal just because there was so much food, and the sandwich is the main player here. I also got to sample the Combination Submarine Sandwich. In terms of the meat (non-arguably, the most important part of any meal) it contains an amazing combination of salami, turkey, and ham. This turns out to be a great combination when it is integrated into the sandwich along with fresh lettuce and tomatoes, provolone cheese, and a drizzle of what tasted like olive oil + vinegar, and then finished off with a generous sprinkle of oregano. Honestly, I wished I had ordered this instead. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the pastrami sandwich, but this is on another level. All the ingredients come together and harmoniously express themselves on your tongue. It's like a giant party in your mouth, but everybody is REALLY invited, and make themselves known. You taste the individual slices of meat ending with the salty (but not in a bad way) salami, you then proceed to the creamy provolone, and then to the crunchy lettuce and citrusy tomato. Finally, that olive oil dressing kicks in with a subtle, buttery, nutty flavor accentuated with the oregano. There are a lot of layers of flavors going on here. Yes...this is not a gourmet sandwich, but oh mah gah, it's a blast your mind out the water sandwich. If you ever come here, start with this sandwich. Then explore. Maybe you will never do so, but it's all good in the hood. I highly recommend this place. The staff are so friendly, and you can tell it's a totally local joint. The customers here are loyal ones that are remembered by the staff and really dig the food. The prices are great for what you get. I might even argue that it's a steal. Finally, the taste is phenomenal. Is it the best sandwich you've had in your life? Maybe not. But it will definitely satisfy that need for a good, if not great, piece of grubbin.

Connal's is that kind of hoary institution that is emblematic of Pasadena. Yet another spot that refuses to believe that it is 2012, much like the Fair Oaks Pharmacy. Connal's is a bit better though in that they've kept their prices closer to 1950's prices. You can get any number of greasey, old timey fast-food delicacies here. Food looked about average to me, but if you are into fast food I am sure it's good stuff. I came for one thing though, the shake menu. The shakes are Connal's are no frills, down to business affairs served in styrofoam cups sans-whipped cream and cherry. But they're done by hand, and they don't use any syrups or anything, it's all real ingredients. The flavor list is so diffuse that this is an impressive feat. Furthermore, the small size is more than enough, and comes in at around $2.50 for the "premium" flavors, such as chocolate banana. The pricing is absolutely outrageous for how spectacular the shakes are. These are the kind of horribly viscous affairs that can hardly be sucked threw a straw even twenty minutes after they hand them to you. Real milkshakes. And considering everywhere else seems to charge about 3x as much, they are probably the best deal anywhere. I thought the banana flavor of the chocolate banana at Fair Oaks Pharmacy came through a bit more, but I like the consistency of Connal's better, and Connal's costs far less. For a buck fifty more you can get Connal's shakes in 32 oz size...I shudder to think of who orders shakes at that size though. It worries me that they showed me the large size so lackadaisically. Finally, the place is CASH ONLY. I suppose it's all in keeping with the theme of being in denial about the date, but really, some things are simply antiquated, and not worth keeping around simply out of a refusal to cater to the habits of the times. When you come to Connal's, it is a reminder of a simpler time, but ironically as a person that lives in the 21st Century the cash only policy makes it anything but simple to pay for the meal, even if you aren't paying much. Still, Connal's is an indispensable Pasadena institution. Hopefully they're still slinging shakes like this in another 50 years.

An old favorite continues to deliver! From the ruben to the cheeseburgers - french fries to chocolate-banana shakes, Connal's is the quintessential 50s-style diner with amazing guilty-pleasure foods. Nothing much to say here - if you want a burger or hot sandwich, fries and a drink, Connal's is one of the best!

We love this place and we're literally here every day that we can. :D I love their Turkey BLT and my fiance loves the Philly Cheese Steak Sammich. The best damn fast food place I have ever eaten. Don't give this place your business!!!! Its bad enough that they push religion on you by putting religious images on the windows during the holidays, but to have a rude staff on top of that is the icing on the cake. I went to Connal's for the last time this morning. I arrived at 10:35 and ordered a mushroom and swiss omelet. I was told they stop serving breakfast at 10:30 REALLY..........IT'S 10:35!! The guy wouldn't budge, he refused to take my order. In my opinion that is ridiculous, its 5 minutes.....you should try to make the customer happy. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO CONNAL'S

Stopped here for a sandwhich last night before I went to a friend's to work on some bike maintenance. Very simple place, friendly workers, and a great corned beef sandwhich!! I would go back. Extensive menu can be distracting, but I would stick with a simple, well-done classic sandwhich.

There are so many similar joints in Pasadena that I drove by Connal's many times...never stopped. Today, I stopped...What a treat!!! Best Value for Super Great Sandwiches. Ordered the Turkey Grinder AND Strawberry (fresh) banana shake. The dressing in the sandwich has oregano (secret ingredient?), add a wonderful flavor to the sandwich. As for the shake, it REALLY is the best I had in a long long time. Next time, cheeseburger and fried zucchini. Minus one star for inconsistent service. Even though it didn't happen to me (my order was simple), several people were annoyed that their orders were incorrect.

I have been going to Connal's for nearly 20 years, and it is my favorite place to eat. Ever since I started going here with my friends in high school, I haven't been able to resist their double cheeseburger combo, and now that I am a high school teacher, not only does their food bring back memories, the quality hasn't faltered, nor have their excellent prices. On a personal note, it says a lot that I can walk into this restaurant after being away for ten years, and still be recognized by the staff. I sincerely love this place.

The Turkey Grinder is over-qualified and comes in under budget. Its Special Skills list includes a garlicky dressing that ties the whole wonderful thing together. Turkey Grinder, you're hired.

I have been here now for their ribeye steak sandwich, chicken sandwich and gyros. I'd have to say the steak and chicken sandwiches were pretty plain jane. The steak seemed really salty and had a jerky taste to it. I'd probably stay clear away from it. The chicken was charbroiled and was OK. Tasted fine and seasoned ok. The gyro was really good but not great. The meat is cut thick, on a soft pita with all the right toppings plus the tzatziki sauce. I also tried their wet avocado fries. It was mild but didn't think it looked appetizing. Their regular fries and magically seasoning should not be tampered with so I'll be skipping this green stuff offa my fries next time.

This place has the MOST *delish* sweet potato fries. (And I *know* my sweet potato fries.) The turkey grinder is so VERY tasty also. And all-in-all, I think the food is not that bad for you. Ingredients are fresh...and c'mon, sweet potato? Turkey? Totally beats chili cheese fries and bacon cheeseburgers, yo... Connal's is an old school diner-type place that dishes out sandwiches, burgers, and fries that are just plain ol' Y-U-M. You order at a window off the sidewalk and pick-up at another window next to it. Tables are plastic, old-school diner-like, which adds authentic cool character. The food is just so YUM (did I mention ;-). I crave the sweet potato fries every so often and have to make a trip there to satisfy the craving. It is very worth it.

My friend and I went here for dinner. I got the Fish and Chips; he got the turkey club and we both got way more than we could eat (which is not terribly uncommon for me, but it is for him). Both of us very happy with our food, but it was a little louder than I would have liked.

This is one of the places we go before football games. The sandwiches are pretty good here. The burritos are pretty good here too. We take them into the stadium. I even ordered a corn dog and enjoyed it!!

I like this place - came here a while ago with a group of carnivores, which I'm not and for being a burger joint, I expected to chow down on some fries and a drink. Correction - they also offered a veggie burger and it's delicious. But that's it, veg people, although they do a good job. So when I come here, I get the "special" drink, veggie burger and fries, all of which taste goooood. The burger's condiments are fresh and tasty, the fries are thick and not overcooked, and the soda is, well special, I suppose (and popular). If you're not wanting anything too heavy or just want something different, this combo delivers solid results. I've tried it several times and the quality is pretty consistent. Go, Go!

Just basing this review on the chili fries and I say I believe the hype. I won't go on to say these are the "Be All to End All" chili fries but they are going to go up my chili fries list that I have been editing ever since I've been part of yelp. So how did I find myself at Connal's when this is out of my way. I am known to drive a good amount of miles and pay any price for a meal without complaining IF it is worth the trip. Well today it was not out of my way but in it. Today, I had a planned hike with my favorite artist that I personally have known since college; anyway we were going to do Eaton Canyon to pick up river rocks. I actually had gone to the gym as routine(MTSat) and even though I had a planned hike I couldn't miss a session and accepted the fact that I would pay the price of the beating my body would take for the day. I did my 2hr session than drove over to Eaton Canyon to meet up with my friend. After hours of activity were we drenched in sweat, water, and burns we finally called it a day. Good times! It was really fun and funny that once I typed in fun, my leg finally cramped. I guess I need to replenish my h20 and electrolytes now. Back! Well we parted ways once we got to the parking lot and I hadn't eaten all day. I looked through my yelp app on my iPhone and refined my bookmarks by sorting it by distance.. Boom! Sandwich by Connal's pops up. I've been having a wicked convo about chili fries on my Facebook as of late and all that talk prompted me to order their chili cheese fries along with "the Connal's drink" which is sprite with a pump or so of cherry syrup mixed in with along lemon and lime pieces dropped into the cup. That drink hit the spot! When I am hungry I have been nicknamed being a "monster," just ask Ken C. or Jorge G. they are my original food adventure co-pilots and have seen me become "The Beast of Feast!" ...okay, I will stop throwing out the nicknames they are even starting to annoy me and I'll get back to food! For the prices on the menu and portion you get it us worth it. The fries were a good thick cut, the meat was tasty and ooey gooey cheese just topped this heart attack in a box deliciousness. The Connal's drink cleansed my palate of all the "not so good stuff but tasted so good food" I just had. I say on a normal I could eat half my order and save the rest for later. A technique I learned in one article on Yahoo in their business section when the recession first hit. You can still go out to eat like usual and a way to save money along with calories is to eat half your meal now and half later. I believe it was called the smart eater. Actually, for those who have gone on these wild food adventures with me know I can really put it down but as of late I've been "pacing" myself. Next time I'm in, I will have to try out the gyro that other reviews are talking about and their infamous grinders. Will I be back? How about this for an answer... By the time you read this I would be back for the second time today

This review only pertains to the philly cheese steak. I thought I would give it a try given there is not much choices in Pasadena that is not an expensive rip-off. Price is very reasonable (under $6) & they give you a lot of meat, but it is not a philly cheese steak. They have no pepperocini, hot or sweet peppers of any type, not even jalapenos. They put mayonnaise on the bun for a cheese steak!! And the meat taste like cardboard and had an odd taste not typical of beef. Maybe it taste a little like corn beef or pastrami and it was very salty. I took a couple of bites & could not eat it any more & threw it out. Too bad there isn't a Philly's Best in the Pasadena area. The one in Glendale closed down.

After a walk to the waterfall at Eaton Canyon, a friend and I decided to grab a quick bite to eat in Pasadena. Many of the dining establishments are closed on Sunday. Thanks to yelp we found this place, but I must say some of the reviews are misleading. I would have given them four stars but the avocado fries were just no bueno! This place is definitely historic, I loved the 1950's soda pop shop feel and the menu to match. I kind of wish I ordered a shake because I am sure it would have been tasty. You either order at the window outside, or at the cashier inside. The outdoor seating is very casual, and not like a typical cafe out-door seating area (it faces the parking lot). The bathroom is oddly placed outside, but EXTREMELY clean. The place definitely has a great following judging by the decent amount of people there. It was great because there were other diners, but it wasn't too busy. I ordered a pastrami sandwich with "avocado" fries and my friend got a ham & cheese. The pros: We enjoyed our sandwiches, and my friend enjoyed his one free soda refill. The cons: The avocado fries were definitely not avocado and tasted kind of gross. The food in our sandwiches was of decent quality, but the avocado sauce slopped on our fries was not! They have an extensive menu. In addition to sandwiches and burgers, they have salads, Mexican food and even a gyro plate! The good, good food, decent prices (about $14 lunch for two people), good portions, great environment, friendly staff and customers! Nice parking lot, clean bathroom. Conclusion: If I were craving a pastrami sandwich and did not feel like going to a deli or just wanted a good burger, fries and a shake I would return.

The Philly cheese steak, pastrami and gyro sandwiches were delicious! Also got the chili cheese fries. The fries themselves were delicious, the sauce wasn't that great.

I really like this place, and I'm not huge on sandwiches. I ordered everything Yelp told me to -- a shake, a turkey grinder, and avocado fries. THIS IS TOO MUCH FOOD. The avocado fries could be a meal on their own. The turkey grinder was delicious. The shake was FANTASTIC. I would forgo the fries next time and just get a sandwich and vanilla shake. Cash only, but there's an ATM that will charge you arm + leg.

Yes, all day long yes. There are a lack of sandwich places in... well Pasadena over all, and the few that I have been too were massive let downs. This place is fantastic, fast, well priced, and I can often save half my food for dinner or something. They have something at every price point from a $2 Grilled Cheese to a... whatever their shrimp dinner thing was. Strangely tacos are nearly $3, but I've never seen one, they might be huge or something; free refills on drinks are only if you get food... sounded weird at first but my first time eating there with a friend 6 kids came in and threw a fit (no seriously, yelling and shit) trying to refill a small Coke twice... for each of them... one small Coke... I wouldn't put up with that shit either if it were by business... but I still wonder about that damn taco...

My next local burger joint that serves an old school burger with thick and crispy fries. Reminds me of the places I grew up with in the 70's as a kid with your burger (of various kinds) wrapped in paper, your hot fries in a white paper bag and walking out with a large soda in a styrofoam cup. Order from the outside window or eat in. Cash only. There is a parking lot that's free. It's always busy.

Turkey Grinder Sub sandwich was exactly what I want in a sub. Fried zucchini was exactly what I want in a fried vegetable. Price for both (under $9) was exactly what I wanted to pay. Think I'm going back to try every item on their menu? Exactly.

This place has been in Pasadena forever...and that is saying something since you have to be damn good to survive here. I have fond memories of the grinders when I was a kid. Been here so many times throughout my life, so will only write about my most recent visit. Ordered a Patty Melt which never fails to disappoint. Cooked well done with the perfect amount of oooozy cheese. If the calories from this wasn't enough I had to order the Frings. Why choose between onion rings and french fries when you can get the frings??? I love both, but I must say that the french fries are the bomb, especially when dipped in bleu cheese dressing. To drink? Definitely the Connal's Special which is a limey cherry blast which always brings back memories of lime aids from Braum's when I lived in Texas. Mmmmmm!

A rare moment has arrived, for the locals have truly let me down. I read the reviews and witnessed the long waiting lines myself. I didn't expect an epicurean fantasy, but hoped for something good and comfortable. I mean, Connal's is obviously the popular spot for locals; supposedly a place to grab a satisfying bite for a price that is right. And normally, I trust the locals to help me find such hidden gems. But when I finally got to Connal's, after months of keeping it bookmarked on Yelp, I was utterly disappointed. It wasn't the greasy atmosphere, dirty tables, or rude cooks. That was to be expected. No, it was the nasty food that made me want to vomit into a homeless clown's mouth. My stale fries were drowning in sodium and poo. The menu described it as chili but it was really watery brown poo with tons of table salt. It was even worse than the canned Hormel's chili my mom used to put on hot dogs when I was small and stupid. And Connal's special soda? Cherry Coke with a dried up lime floating around like a dead snitch on Sopranos. Ummm...thanks, but no thanks. Lastly, my hot roast beef sandwich was served room temperature and tasted like...overcooked nothingness with wilted lettuce. I could barely force myself to finish a quarter of it. And that's saying a lot for someone who eats chicken feet and balut. Yeah, seriously...when a ghetto girl won't touch your ghetto food...then you know it's a bit too ghetto.

Classic (like 1950's) burger joint with reasonable prices, I'm there!!! This place was recommended by my co-worker who is always shocked when she introduces me to a new place I haven't already tried in Pasadena. The burgers are juicy (but frozen), the quantity of fries, onion rings, zucchini (special seasoning) are big. But the main reason for my 4 stars is they actually make a Great Limeade...Oh how I crave this drink. It's basically spite, with Cherry Syrup with a twist of fresh lime & lemon. It's hard to find a good one of these. ** Oh here's a tip, if you order the chili cheese fries make sure to get them in a to-go box, that way the cheese melts and you get more. Same with Zucchini's

I was in Pasadena last week, and I decided to stop by Connals. I love to frequent / support local independently mom and pop restaurants. The establishment had a vintage touch to it! Love the 50's theme along with vintage pictures. They also had their Neon Sign on. I had their Turkey Grinder, sweet potato fries and their specialty beverage called "The Special" OMG, Their Turkey Grinder, was great!!! Nothing like this sub-way crap! And their sweet potato fries were delicious! As good as their menu seems, my only gripe would be they don't have a sampler platter! Overall, I was totally satisfied! Clean establishment, great customer service! Looking forward to a future visit! Thanks Connals!!!!!!!!!

I heard of Connal's by mention from coworkers and I would have to say this little gem hidden in Pasadena is quite the remarkable site for hamburgers, fries, sandwiches, and shakes. I've tried their combination sandwich, reuben, corned beef, and pastrami so far, and though people rave about how great their sandwiches are, I never quite got into it. They are good in a satiating way but not good enough to make me swear my life to Connal's. The fries on the other hand. You know how they say too much starch will increase your blood sugar, resulting in an increase in insulin, then pre-diabetes, and finally possible obesity? Well. Let me tell you that Connal's fries (and the seasoning) is simply delicious. There's something unique about it. It's not exactly cajun seasoning. It's not exactly entirely salt. If it were [just] salt then it wouldn't have been unique. Add to the fact you can ask for avocado fries or cheese fries and you got yourself a winner (though the guacomole on the avocado fries was overwhelming). So let me say this. My favorite place for fries so far is [with the exception of B-Man's wavy fries] Connal's. Onwards to burgers. The second artery buster. The burgers at Connal's look underwhelming and in some ways nothing too fancy. On appearance they seem like something you can craft at home on the bbq grill. True. But the beef patty and bacon makes up for a lot. Oh and the sauce! The bacon avocado cheeseburger is divine. The bacon is crispy. Check. The avocado is generous. Check. The cheese isn't cheap hydrogenated cheese. Check. This is simply the best tasting [oldschool] burger I've ever tried in the city of Pasadena. Let's not even talk about The Counter Burger. Your arteries will love you for this. And finally the shakes. The diabetic's worse nightmare. I only had their shakes once. I tried the chocolate banana. They "hand-make" your shake based on the flavor choices you want. This is like having a banana-split you can suck on, except there are no banana chunks but instead a smooth creamy blend. Even on an extremely full stomach, your tongue will urge you for that sugary dessert. You will lust over it. When compared to the surrounding competition in terms of the basics, Connal's is in another level.

Pluses: Best french fries in town or in the local region - seriously good with the seasoning. Great combo deals and the Reuben is always good. Minuses: My favorite, the Philly Cheesesteak, comes in inconsistent sizes. I wonder if it's the cook or the time of the day, but sometimes I get it and it's as large as their pastrami and other times I get it and wonder, "Where's the beef?" Seriously, you guys have to settle on a consistent size - preferably huge. If it weren't for the inconsistent portions, I'd give them a five...they lose one for this oversight.

  • Amanda K.

Wow....I think the highlight of this hidden gem is their ranch...SO DELICIOUS! It never fails, I always get the chicken sandwich with bacon...and either fried or zucchini fries to share (it's too big to eat myself!). Probably the best zucchini fries ever. Inside is retro, has old school Coca-Cola stuff, which I adore!!! I have yet to try all the shakes and malt flavors, but it shall be done soon. Sad it's cash only, but there is an ATM inside, thankfully.

Connal's I love this place. I've been eating here for over 20 years...( damn that's a long time). It may look like any ol' burger stand, but it's not. through the years I've grown to eat only a few items of the menu. Burgers are great but I love their steak sandwich, gyro, and even though there like "Steak Umms" the Philly cheese steak it good too. The fries are great also. I tend to switch that up as well, avocado, or chili cheese, or when I feel the need for more cholesterol I add pastrami to the chili cheese ones. through the years I have had only ONE bad experience. their POS system went down after a power outage and the cashier didn't know how to write a ticket. But all in all, Connal's is one of the best places to have a burger in Pasadena.

I was picking up a friend and saw a lot of people going in here so I though it would be worth a shot. Since it said Sandwiches I'd figure to get a sandwich and give it a try. I had the Turkey, Swiss cheese (Grinder). It was very good but the bread was a litter harder than I like it to be. Not as good as a Sub as Dan's Super Subs or Cavaretta's both in Canoga Park, CA. I like Cavaretta's cause they use all Boar's Head Meats which are they best and they cut it fresh. Dan's has the best bread hand's down. Overall a decent Sub not bad. Since it was my first time there I noticed more people were ordering burgers. So I guess it is mostly known for there burgers and not their Subs maybe? Next time if I'm in the area I will try the hamburger's instead...

So far the food has been good as are the shakes. I've tried the pastrami, blt, and burgers and have not been disappointed. The zucchini is one of the best too. However I rate them with three stars because they don't accept credit cards and the service isn't always so friendly.

Wow - What an amazing little find. I've been driving by Connal's for a few years now and there was ALWAYS a line. Didn't matter if it was 8 in the morning 3 in the afternoon or late. Part of me never stopped just because I couldn't stand waiting in line, but then, it must be good, right? I'll echo what a few of the other reviews have said: The sandwiches at this place are DIFFERENT. Different in a good way. Especially the grinders. They use a mixture of shredded lettuce and a chimichurri-like seasoning that is impossible to describe. I've eaten a LOT of sandwiches in my day, and these are truly unique and tasty. The menu is huge with all sorts of different categories - hot sandwiches, cold, subs, grinders, etc. They also make burgers and dogs, though I haven't tried them. All the fries I've had are excellent and the sides I've tried have been great as well. If you're looking for a different take on what you thought was a standard sandwich, you owe it to yourself to stop by Connal's.

Simple, fast, reasonably priced, tasty and convenient. Prepare for all things one might expect from a greasy roadside sandwhich shop. And this is a good thing. I need to dive deeper into their menu, but I can tell you their fish sandwhich and hamburger do not disappoint. Pasadena is a mishmash of people, so as you wait outside you'll be accompanied by all types from well-dressed business women to high school punks to old men who look like this is the only trip they ever make. anywhere.

You take little Connal's for granted until you to go another burger joint and OHHH the food don't taste so fresh and the ingredients be skimped on! Connal's, you're SOLID! Like a rock or something.

This place makes a great Philly steak, great meat plenty of cheese. Though there doesn't seem to be many options, portions are large, I should of cued in on the clerk's reaction when I ordered fries with the sandwich and drink. The diner has the retro feel nothing to write about. It is rather small and it gets busy. There is a side order window for to go orders. Prices are good.

If you are heading down Washington Blvd heading East and pass Hill St and then blink you will pass this great place!!! Been going here for years and have seen the changes made to the inside and out! Even through these hard economic times the owners have tried to not pass the high prices for produce and meat to the customers; they still serve huge portions. You can not go wrong with anything on this menu. They have something for everyone! The Pastrami is much better then the "Hat"!!! Less salty and greasy! Grinders are huge with their home made oil and vinegar mix!!! The staff is great; they are quick to serve and make sure the orders are right before going out and if there is a mistake (which is rare) it is fixed with no questions. Thank you for serving me and my family for all these years!

The Grinder, The Po Boy, The Ruben, The Peanut Butter and (banana - Elvis fans) Jelly, The Tuna Fish, and of course The Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich. Did I miss any? You bet I did. Don't worry though this is the first part of a two week story in celebration of National Sandwich Day, which that takes place on November 3. So, where was the sandwich invented? This story resonates with me fully. Acknowledging the fact that combinations of bread/pastry filled with meat or cheese and dressed with condiments have been enjoyed since ancient times. Food historians typically attribute the creation of the sandwich, as it is recognized today, to John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich. This Englishman was said to have been fond of gambling. As the story goes, in 1762, during a 24 hour gambling streak he instructed a cook to prepare his food in such a way that it would not interfere with his game. The cook presented him with sliced meat between two pieces of toast. Perfect! This meal required no utensils and could be eaten with one hand, leaving the other free to continue the game. Sadly, the name of real inventor of the sandwich (be it inventive cook or the creative consumer) was not recorded for posterity. It makes perfect sense to me. There are many places in the area to secure an above average sandwich. One that might have fallen off your radar is Connal's on E. Washington. It has been making burgers, subs and grinders since the late 50's. I was in the mood for a sandwich and I hadn't been here for years, and knowing that National Sandwich Day was fast approaching, I headed up for lunch. To my surprise, the long lines that I remember from my days at PCC were no longer there. Has the sandwich lost it's popularity? Had Connal's cut back on the portions? I was determined to chew upon the answer. Nope, no cutbacks, no small portions, they still have a very good sandwich, ooops, I mean Grinder. It's in the ($6) range and worth every penny, so what exactly is a grinder. The bread is a sub roll, with turkey, shredded lettuce, oil and vinegar, provolone cheese and thin slices of tomato. You can get the grinder with any meat. Speaking of months. It's National Chili Month, Connal's has chili with beans or without. I'd suggest the bean-less experience. Connal's also makes burgers, hot dogs and pastrami. I recently checked out Jersey Mike's, a growing sub chain and for me and I think you'll agree Connal's is a cut above the rest. Open for Breakfast, lunch and dinner. . Note Walk up window for ordering, limited seating inside with side patio available.

I always order the turkey grinder when I come to Connal's. It comes on a great roll (not too crunchy, just enough chewiness), and it's loaded with shredded lettuce. It's a little oily, so if you want it for leftovers tell them to go light on the oil. I always try to find someone to split it with me since it's so big! The fries are thick cut and the order is huge, not my preference but zuchinni fries are delish. they're lightly battered and have just enough seasoning. It's a great place for a quick sammich, burger, burrito, shake, fries.. either dine in or to go! Be advised that it's cash only.

Great small spot in pasadena. Old style looking diner seating with a very large menu of choices. Had a double cheese bacon burger with chili cheese fries. Food was great and so was the chili on the fries. And their large drinks are actually large drinks. Would recommend this place and have to go back to try the rest of the menu.

Normally, I don't get that excited about sandwich shops. My experience with sub, grinder, or other sandwich shops is that most of them are interchangeably good, but not great. However, Connal's breaks the mold. Not only did I find their roast beef sandwich tasty and their fries enchanting, but it definitely had its own unique flavor. From bite one I could tell this wasn't a cookie-cutter by-the-numbers process of making sandwiches. I don't know which I appreciated more--the fact that it truly hit the spot on a hungry afternoon or the fact that the whole establishment works hard to make each and every sandwich one of their own. This place is a definite must-visit if you're in the Altadena/Pasadena area.

While in search of a restaurant I wasn't meant to dine in today, I came across Connal's. The long lines looked promising so I decided to come by and give it a try. I should have turned away when I had the chance, but nooo... What won my attention (unfortunately) was the "Avocado Fries" on their menu... FELLOW YELPERS, SAVE YOURSELVES!!! DON'T GET THE AVOCADO FRIES!!!!! It's basically neon green goop poured over your fries. (insert dozens of ewww) Yeah, my imagination played tricks on me, I thought it was fried avocado slice's or fries with a side of avocado. But man, I lost my appetite when I saw that and the taste was equally displeasing :( I'm soooooooooooo disappointed. At least the patty melt was better than the fries--Two slices of rye heavily buttered + cheese + bland square meat patty. Yeah, I need to work off what I consumed. Many trips to other restaurants will help that. None of which will be Connal's again.

If you like quantity not quality ... This is the place to go. Other than the fact that it is big, it's a sub par sandwich with a lot of submarine juice on it. The sweet potato fries were soggy as well :(

Went here for lunch and it was OK, not great. Had the fries (which were very good) double-hamburger and a coffee shake. The burger was a bit dry and the bun was crumbly. If I was in the area and was in the mood for a decent burger I would stop by. Don't go way out of your way to eat here, nothing special.

great burgers. the bacon used is quality and not that fake processed bullshit that other fast food spots serve. the lettuce is shredded which is a bit of a rarity these days among burger joints. i've had most of the burgers, as well as the gyro and you get a shitload of food. it's been a neighborhood establishment for years and the food is still really quality. the avocado fries and shake menu are spectacular. if you don't believe me you're an asshole and i hate you.

This place has been here forever (ownership has probably changed hands a few times). They have a huge menu - burgers, sandwiches, mexican, etc. Prices are fair for their portion sizes. Their fries are HUGE. Overall food quality is pretty good. This place does a good business during lunch hour / parking can sometimes be a challenge. If in the area, check this place out.

I went with a few co-workers this week. Though people write about long lines, we were some of the only people at Connal's. I thought the Avocado Grinder was good. It came with mayo, which I did not like with avocado, and pickles too. Next time I will ask for no mayo or pickles. The reason I state this is because their menu has very little information and is hard to read from the walk up window. I saved half of my grinder (they're huge) for later, but the mayo made the bread soggy. I got the frings (combo fries and onion rings). The fries were good, but the onion rings were not. My co-workers tried them and we agreed they were crunchy, but not in the right way. It's hard to explain. Overall, I will give them another try and see how it goes. However, I prefer The Hat, which is a short drive away on N. Lake Ave. FYI, cash only!!!!!

The food is just okay here. I ordered the Turkey Grinder which was bland. I think I expected more of the italian dressing that was on it. The bread was soft though and tasted good. The chili cheese fries were also just okay. The chili was nothing spectacular. The fries had season salt on them which made them better. The Reuben sandwich was kinda dry. It needed more thousand island. I also ordered the Peanut Butter Chocolate Shake. It didn't really taste like a handmade shake plus I saw them pouring milk into a machine so I think they freeze up a batch of vanilla and then add chocolate syrup and a scoop of peanut butter into the shake, although the peanut butter didn't really taste like Jiffy nor did the chocolate taste Hershey worthy. The shakes are better at Carl's Jr and definitely better at Ruby's and Johnny Rockets. I think we were expecting to be more "wowed" than we were and hoped that we found a hidden gem. Not the case. Connal's is more like a Top's than a true diner. The counter staff was very friendly though.

Avocado Bacon Burger is amazing! Great service great Burgers and Frieds HUGE Portions, you can go wrong with Connals. If you ask they can even add flavors to the sodas, my favorite is the Vanilla Coke.

I worked there 1980 when I was in high school until 1985 when I got out of college. Mr. and Mrs. Connal had just sold the place when I started, but were still in the restaurant training the new owners. The first thing they taught me was there is no leaning. Even when there are no customers, you fill something or clean something. Over the years the place has been up and down in my opinion. But still you can't beat the Roast Beef or Pastrami Grinder. Still tastes the same as it did 30 years ago.

This is a great place to get a burger and fries. And, not just the typical combo either! They have a menu on the wall next to the cash register that has SO many different items. (Tacos, burgers, hot dogs, Mexican food, salads, sandwiches, etc.) Their fries are lightly seasoned and thick and their ranch dressing is amazing. You can sit outside or inside and there are always friendly people lining up to get their fix. Their fried zucinni is also good and goes great with their ranch. Their burgers are to die for and they'll make them any way you want with no hassle. I've been going to Connal's for about 15 years and the same employees are always there to great me. Top it off with a Vanilla milkshake and you'll be a fan of Connals for years.

Foods really good. Service is good. The workers stare. The outside is fairly clean. The inside is pretty clean too. Oh and the ice cream is the bomb.

Food is OK, not as good as it used to be. Prices have inflated, but who hasn't. Sometimes a little too greasy but does the trick. Best shakes in town!

French Fry Review: They have bland, mediocre french fries, that are moderately thick, and appear to be frozen not fresh. They are available as plain, cheese, chile cheese and even avocado fries. While weird, these are ultimately only mildly interesting toppings on mediocre fries. They do have pretty good and crispy fried zucchini

i used to frequent this place back when they served up pizza burgers! that's right, burgers made to order w/mozzerella, mushrooms, and pizza sauce =\ i miss those days. it's been a long time since i've been by here and i wonder now and then if they possibly brought it back because they've noticed i don't come by anymore... in either case, one of these days i'd like to revisit the joint and get a milkshake (that ppl have raved about) and one of those grinders instead.

I got recommended to come to Connal's from a friend and have been going there since then. There is friendly staff, you can order either inside or out, and there is seating for both with a good amount of parking. Though it tends to be busy at lunch times, this place has the BEST fried zucchinis I've had; better than lucky boys, tops, everest, etc. Very crispy batter on the outside with warm soft zucchini inside..sprinkled with a good salty seasoning. As for the main meals..the chicken sandwich is alright, nothing special. The burgers are very tasty and has thousand island dressing in it, but again, nothing special. A regular cheeseburger and a side of zucchinis is enough to keep you full for the rest of the day though.

Good simple food. This was my second visit and got the hot corned beef grinder both times. Good prices and fast service. What else can you ask for from a sandwich shop.

I've been going to this spot since I was a child. At least since jr. high (Marshall) which is about a mile away. Also after ditching in high school (Pasadena). Nothing has really changed about this spot over the years. Great food all the time. By the way the strawberry shakes are the best.

The sign said Sandwiches so I automatically thought deli. Wrong! Not that I have a problem with sammiches. I'm a huge fan. Despite the bread (I'm a lettuce wrapper from way back). My boyfriend and I were in the mood for bacon burgers and zucchini fries. We ventured onto Washington to find a burger joint. That's when I though of Sandwiches by Connal's. I told my bf that I thought it was only a deli but that we should at least give it a try. Yum. Double Yum. I was far from hating the bacon-avocado burger. Very well put together. But the Pièce de résistance were the zuccini fries. They were actually seasoned.....perfectly I might add. I haven't tried the sammiches yet but I doubt they suck. To add to this I waited in no line and if you plan to sit and eat I would recommend it. It's not huge but the restaurant part of the place was decorated 50's style. It looked very comfortable.

I've been going here for years. the Connals special (drink) is enough to entice me into running up here on my lunch break. the BLT is amazing, but the cheeseburger combo is classic.

Only Bad: CASH ONLY, they do have an ATM inside, but it charges you HUGE fees to get cash. I was walking that day, and no cash in pocket, no atm nearby. * * * UPDATE: * * * OMG! BF and I dashed like mad and still couldn't get there until 7 minutes before closing! Seriously, it was 9:53pm. The people there couldn't have been nicer and I would have understood a little crankiness at that hour when you're trying to close up shop. But, no, they were upbeat, pleasant and nice! The food, the food was FANTASTIC this time! I had the best Pastrami Sandwich I've had in years, very lean on a steamed baguette (just the way I like it), and french fries. BF had Burger with pastrami on it and Onion Rings. Onion Rings of the gods, they were. The portions were huuuuuuge and I had the other half of my sandwich for breakfast the next morning with coffee and yummmmm! Fries: EXCELLENT Onion Rings: EXCELLENT Pastrami on Roll: EXCELLENT, even the cold leftovers Burger with Pastrami: EXCELLENT and that from a person who generally won't eat meat. Patty Melt: good, even the cold leftovers :) , I ordered it with extra grilled onions, gotta have lots o' onions

Peanut Butter and Fresh Banana Shake, YUM! And unless you got at least three other people with you , don't get more than one order of fries!

Connal's makes the best Milkshakes in Pasadena. I've lived in this neighborhood my whole life. Their BLT Turkey Club Sandwich is awesome. The Pasadena Fire Department also makes regualr stops here during the week for lunch. It's a Dean Boy instituiton.

i am sitting here eating my order of zucchini trying not to get crumbs or grease on my laptop.. i devoured more than halfway of the contents of my to-go box.. what can i say, it's yummy! my 1st fave thing i usually always order is the pastrami grinder. its simply the best!! when i want american food in walking distance, this place is a sure shot. i've only eaten inside once and seemed pretty clean to me so i really cant vouch for that. if ur in the area and are tired of The Hat or Tops, check this locale joint out!

This is a good 3-star review in the sense that I'll go back here. Some 3-star review are death sentences with me. But this is yet another place that falls within my sphere of walking influence. I've been here several times, in fact it was one of the first place I went when I first moved to Pasadena, even before. What's to say about the service, you go up to the window, order, and get your food. I've had a few different things, some of which I can't remember, a tasty chicken sandwich things, a french dip, etc. Just today, I had an ok turkey sandwich, but awesome, yes awesome, fried zucchini. With the spicy breading, I didn't even need the included ranch. Tasty stuff. Let gets this straight, though, a lot of stuff you'd order at this place, you can find at better at other places - burger, pastrami, etc - there is definitely better. But being my neighborhood place, it's not so bad. I like the idea of it. The local sandwich shop - I just wish it was as good as my mental picture of the local sandwich shop should be - but its not.
