Took a random train ride on the gold line and wound up in Memorial Park. We walked through a seemingly bustling business district and spotted this divey little gem, "The 35er." There were $3 beer specials on summer varieties. The beer was average, seemed like the tap needed cleaned or something, but overall, it was a cool vibe. We played two games of pool and had some free popcorn (which now, in retrospect, we actually weren't sure if it was free, but everyone else seemed to be doing it). It was clean and casual. The bartender was really nice and we made some friends with the locals chilling by the bar. The atmosphere seemed like a locals bar. I enjoyed this place.

OK bar for a Pasadena dive. came here with a friend. we sat down ordered a pitcher was around $12. we went down stairs, maybe the coolest thing about the bar. we left after an hour or so. cheap drinks, nice bartenders. cool smoking patio outside...

Worst experience of any night. Bartender screamed at people and gave major attitude when we ordered our beer. She screamed at my girlfriend and several strangers had to come to her rescue, as I was outside smoking and then was not allowed back in, but had to go stand in line again! Drinks were watery, and the pool tables are scratched and uneven. It was the staff that made me write this review, and even though I turned 21 there, I will not be having my 30th birthday party there. Go over to Jake's instead. Same price, with better tables, and a much better attitude.

Went there last night for my 21st birthday... and wasn't impressed at all. The crowd there seemed to be a bunch of drunk hicks, the ambiance wasn't very nice.. and only 1 bartender? We walked in... looked around, and walked out. Maybe I'll give it another try... next time I turn 21.

2.75 stars. This is a nice, divey bar located in the heart of Colorado Boulevard. I was here partying with a high school classmate before the BCS National Championship game and the place was absolutely brimming with Alabama fans (with a few Texas fans speckled into the crowd for good measure). Thus, according to my friend, the bar was certainly more packed than a usual day. So I can't really comment on how the bar functions on a normal day, but I can say it was a bit difficult to get a drink here. This is your prototypical dive. There is a dingy basement downstairs. The taps are unremarkable (as a side note, I found myself drinking entirely too much Blue Moon on this CA trip... for a place known for their interesting IPAS, this was kind of an unfortunate situation). The bartenders have a decided goth bent to them. There is an edge that is not necessarily friendly, but certainly is not mean either. I think this would be a fine bar if one was local to the area and didn't have a necessarily discerning palate for beer varieties. This would be a good place to have a laid back night so long as there isn't a national championship game going on in Pasadena. It has pool, TVs, a long circular bar, and a basement. What else could you ask for? Oh wait, IPA beer. Come on 35er...

  • Troy R.

Lived in Pasadena all my life but never been to the 35er. Till Last night watched the MMA fights and enjoyed a couple of pitchers of Blue Moon. Good pricing great atmosphere will be back soon.

This place kinda reminds me of the sleaziest bar downtown during my college years; cheap drinks, kinda dirty, well populated by meatheads, loud and there's always that one person who is too drunk for their own good and unabashed about showing it. Except this is Pasadena and the drinks definitely aren't cheap. It's really not that great. This is a hyper sports bar. It seems like the main patrons are super sports fans and typical frat/sorority folk. They have a foosball table, which just screams Greek and a bunch of flat screen TVs for sports. The music is ridiculously loud despite the fact there's no dance floor or room for dancing. My 16.9oz Spaten was $7 and I'm curious if foregoing the fancy European beer glass it was served in would've saved a few bucks. I shudder to think what a Chimay would've cost. Beyond Chimay and Spaten, they also had Pyramid Snow Cap and Anchor Christmas Brew on tap, which are minor plus points. I will give this place an additional star because I could see it being a potentially fun place to be if I was really into that "Meet Market" scene or a hardcore sports fan, but otherwise I don't find too much to ever come back for given you can't even B.S. with some friends without yelling over the loud music.

  • Staci F.

Your typical dive bar with awesome wallpaper!! They have pool tables too!

  • Connie H.

Came here on a Wednesday night after finding 1020 closed. It wasn't bad. It was pretty quu....noo..it wasn't quiet. There was a few loud patrons but they were cool. I'm not a barhopper so I don't know what proper barhoppers do when they are at a bar so I sat my butt there and watch Sex in the City on one of the 4 or 5 tv hanging about. But yeah, if you get bored they do have pool tables, popcorn machine, and these computerish thing that you could play games on..and get this...the girls on the game where you find mismatches between two pictures..are NAKED. UNCENSORED. :X Anyways, minus a star for the bartender getting all pester-y because my friend wanted more lime to kill the taste and not getting well vodka since she's going to kill the taste anyways. But otherwise, he was pretty cool, the place is pretty cool to just chill. The drinks are pretty cheap, two vodka tonic and one redbull vodka came out to be 15ish.

I hate this place. Short staff, the bartender was serving drinks, preparing my food and didn't wash his hands. I had to walk out. Just not professional people or place. I give this place below a million stars. They don't even deserve 1. Just nasty and disgusting!

    (1)
  • Paulina R.

It's a pretty chill bar, I like it. I came to watch the UFC fight with my sis and it was good. Right when I passed the bar the bartender looked at me to get my order (yay no waiting). It just looks like a good spot to hang out with friends. (really it was the popcorn machine that won me over ;) lol)

this place has been here forever, but thats not always a good thing. i love dive bars, but this place just sucks. weird vibe, weird crowd. not too mention way to bright for a supposed dive bar the reason why i'll never set foot here again: my gf bought us 2 drinks, realized that she didnt have enough to tip, walked five feet back to our booth to get a few bucks to tip the guy, and before she could turn around the bartender was yelling some smart ass "thanks for the tip! dont forget your change!" he even had some dumb bitch bring the quarter back to our table. total scum bags ask yourself: would you rather miss out on a dollar by being an asshole, or lose a future customer and everyone he/she can persuade to do the same? screw the dirty diver

  • Will D L.

Yes, it may be filled with alcoholics, eses, losers, and general hoodlums but where else in Pasadena can you get a non-happy-hour beer for $3.50 and free popcorn as an added bonus? I go here when I want to get sloshed without running into anybody that I know.

I've been to the 35er a handful of times, and, in general, it isn't so bad. However, on one particular evening of dancing and libations at the ole 35er, I had a horrible experience with what I'll call a short, over zealous bouncer (a nice way of saying a 5'-4" bouncer with a serious Napoleon complex). As the 35er was closing, said stout, staunch, little sh*t, decided to tell, err yell in my ear repeatedly that the bar was closing and to get the f-- out. Meanwhile, I'm there still trying to pay the bill, and obviously will not leave without my credit card. I try explaining this to the gentleman who was swimming in his Baby Gap clothing, but to no avail. At this point, my little, almost flea-like adversary, starts insulting my party and I. Now, I'm no fighter, but I definitely wanted to kick this guy's ass. Finally, the manager stepped in, after I through a few insults back, and actually apologized to us. I was surprised that I did receive an apology, and its the only reason why this review is for 2 stars and not 1 star.

I would give more than 5 stars for this place. Heres wuts freakin awesome here. 1. $10.50 pitchers of beer on Thursdays, cheap pints during Happy Hr 2. 2 floors, 2 bars, free popcorn, pool tables, watch football upstairs, dance the night away w/ the dj downstairs 3. My man got a small gift for being a Scorpio from the bartender! First time ever being here and had a great time. Watched the Chargers vs Raiders game. It is a Raiders bar but the ppl were awesome no beef w/ anyone. Went downstairs to check out the dancefloor. We happened to know the DJ that we met at Sardos! Such a small world. Jimmy, you kick ass! People can see him DJ on Fridays. Request anything, he has got it all! They started to have a small taco stand in thier front patio. Food made fresh and super cheap. Had a massive burrito with carnitas in it. Decent but not gourmet. They don't have it everyday. Not sure of when they come. Overall, had shitload of drinks for cheap, and being around fun people! I love it!

Coming here reminds me of a basement party. Like the type of party you throw when your parents leave town for the weekend or something. Its kinda nice. I definitely enjoy this place the most in Pasadena! Never a dull moment and mostly good vibes coming from everyone all around. (:

Dive bar heaven in Old Town Pasadena. "The Dirty Diver" ,as some of us refer to it, has been family owned and operated since 1963. I've lost count of how many great times I've had here. Anyone who's anybody can have fun no matter what the occasion. Whether its a birthday, Lakers game, UFC fight, or just a regular Friday or Saturday night. So there's actually two floors of dirty diverness. Upstairs you have the main bar, stocked with all the commodities, two pool tables, popcorn machine, outside patio, and giant t.v.'s galore. Then you can take one of the stairways downstairs to the 'dirty' part. Another bar next to a small 'dancefloor' with dj. More t.v.'s and another pool table, and yes another popcorn machine! You better watch it though. Sometimes these goons like to stick their dirty little hands in there! I like to come here with big groups to have a great time. The dance floor gets really packed so push some people around to make your way in there! Also, im a big fan of MMA so ill come here from time to time to watch Ultimate Fighting Championships or StrikeForce. There is a cover charge of course usually $5-$10 depending on the event. Their selection of beer is good too. Happy hour is 3pm-6pm Monday-Friday. And you gotta love their all fried food menu. I will always make a stop here for a drink when I'm in Old Town. It's a staple amongst Pasadena residents. Never a dull moment at the dirty diver.

been coming here for years since the early 1990's good place to drink up with friends or a date !

I came here one morning to watch some football games with a friend. It was 10 am and too early to drink for me so I just ordered a soda. They didn't really seem to have anything vegetarian on the menu, so I passed on food. There were several TVs and they seem to play all the NFL games. There was free popcorn which was awesome and it's self serve so you can eat as much as you want. There was a good mix of people, a few older single guys, a few couples, a few groups, and several young single guys (I actually was amazed, cute guys out by themselves at this place). And polite too! I was one of the only ladies in the place, and maybe you only get this treatment Sunday before noon, but everyone seemed really nice. No one tried to hit on me or anything weird, everyone was into the game. The bartender didn't charge me for my soda and made friendly conversation with me and my friend. I don't live in the area but if I did I would probably stop here once in a while. I love the atmosphere of the place but wish they had more food options, and I'm not sure how their alcohol prices are.

For my birthday night out in Pasadena, we decided to just make it casual and go to Freddie's. This bar was packed as usual but what I love about this place is that you are able to talk with your friends and actually hear what they are saying. Most places are bumping loud and obnoxious music. I wanted to hear what everyone has been up to and pretty much play catch up with. I ordered for the entire night these drinks : 2 Cranberry Vodka with Grey Goose, 1 Patron shot*OMG this was WARM* that was hard to gulp down but I did it!!, and one Irish Car Bomb. I was pretty much drunk at this time and I can't really remember how much the price of the drinks were. Now just gotta go hit the gym from all this drinking and partying all weekend. :P But I did enjoy myself a lot and so did my friends. We also found free parking on the side of the road where there are meters. If you come at a certain time at night, it is free to park on the street. So we were able to not spend any money on parking. That was a bonus. If you leave the bar at 2:00P.M. which we did there are a lot of cops on Colorado Blvd. pulling people over since they are unable to drive. So a BIG TIP would be having a designated driver that is not drinking, to drive everyone home. Be careful and have some fun!!

We came on sunday for the first time. Not alot off ppl im (guessing cuz its a sunday) bar tender really friendly. Good prices on their beers n big screen tv`s . Oh and they have A.C wich was a plus for me cuz its been so hot lately.

The people here are really down-to-earth. I also really love that they have dancing downstairs. They play old-school hip-hop, which makes me feel young again. The restrooms could be a bit cleaner.

The 35er is really a mixed bag. On Thursdays, I think the old fat disgusting creepy men are at home bc all I see is hot college guys n firemen in little groups. Yes! Score. But if they leave, you leave too. Cuz disgusting people will soon follow. Any other night of the week, you pass by this place and think to yourself, this is where dreams go to die. But it's cheapo. And they make some toxic combinations for uber cheap. And the girl bartender isn't a pain in the ass. She's actually sort of nice. The basement "club" is dingy, frat party -esque and completely devoid of anything that looks attractive or human. Fat people congregate down there in the dark and convulse as if dancing. You want to hide your face in shame for stepping foot within this room. Just back up slowly and silently. If you don't see them, they can't see you. There's a smoking patio, a couple of pool tables and dingy bathrooms. Oh, and a popcorn machine. If you stick your hand in there, I'm fairly certain you may catch herpes. I actually am pretty sure if you use the bathroom you're at good risk of that, too.

I work with children, and sometimes, you just need to hang out with adults. That's why my friends and decided we needed an "adult day" full of barhopping and partying in Old Town Pasadena. This was one of our first stops. Personally, I just think this isn't exactly the crowd my friends and I hang out with. There was a Chargers vs. Raiders game so it was a little intense. I saw a lone Charger fan getting really mad at this group of Raiders fans, but his girlfriend(?) calmed him down. Drinks: Cheap! Less than $5 for a drink? Heck yeah! I was DD, so I had the non-alcoholic beer, Kaliber. (This was the only spot on our adventure with non-alcoholic beer.) My friends told me their drinks were pretty strong, so they don't cheap out on the alcohol. Crowd: Sports fans, crowd is about 30s-50s year olds. (I'm a bad judge of age so take this with a grain of salt.) Verdict: Three stars for cheap drinks, but we aren't sports fans and the audience was older. And I think the angry Charger fan scared me a tid bit.

Great place to have a drink. The bartender blonde girl was great she was very attentive of me and everyone else around me . Great customer service by the bartender will come back .

The only dive bar in Old town Pasadena. Free popcorn, cheap drinks and a mellow group of patrons. They have free wifi... that I don't know why anyone would use at a bar, but it's there. You can get the pass code on signs at the bar. The bottom floor has the dance floor.

  • Patty K.

I work across the street from this place and have never been in until a week ago. It was not my first choice to go to, but my friends had been before and said it was a cool place, so, I gave it a chance. I know this place can get a bit rowdy. I've watched from across the street many times, as a fight broke out, the cops came, and carted drunk people away. The night I went, it was pretty mellow. The drinks were strong, and the bartender was awesome. I think her name was Deb. No fights broke out. We all had a great time, and I will absolutely return and so should you!

My high school buddies and I (all 21 years old) decided to get together and go barhopping in Old Town. We came across here and realized that: 1. We were the only Asians. In the San Gabriel Valley, that's really saying something. This could either work for or against you depending on what you want. 2. We were the youngest people there. I feel like the number 35 means the median age of the bar. 3. We were the most dressed. Everyone else was either in gym clothes or t-shirt/jeans. Basically, if you just want to chill at a bar with friends, play some pool, and just have a good time watching football, this is the place for you. It's also the perfect place to escape the upscale trendy places all around Old Town. But, It just wasn't what my friends and I were looking for. It reminds me of a low-key version of the bar in "How I Met Your Mother" but with pool tables.

    (3)
  • Sally Z.

Decent beer selection and plenty of TVs. If I were a typical dude, I'd be in heaven. Caters best to sports enthusiast that dislike trendy and modern interior decorating.

    (4)
  • Aaron S.

Cheap beer, free popcorn, and two pool tables, what more do you need? A good location and great place to people watch if you sit outside. One of the few "bars" in Pasadena. All food is deep fried. This place is just missing the black plastic ashtrays.

  • Jake W.

I came here last weekend to see an MMA PPV. I had to pay $5 to see it, so that wasn't great, but it could have been worse. As I walked in, they were playing "Who Shot Ya?" by Biggie Smalls. This is definitely a plus in my book. I grabbed a pitcher (average price) and headed downstairs to watch the fight (upstairs was open to everyone). There was a free popcorn dispenser and the popcorn was actually pretty decent. They had plenty of televisions and there was more than enough seating (wasn't the biggest PPV, so it could get too crowded, it just wasn't when I was there). The busboy (who was gigantic, btw) kept walking into the middle of the room to look for empty glasses. Unfortunately, the spot he kept choosing to do this totally blocked my view of the best screen. I suppose that's a pretty minor quabble, but it was driving me crazy. I'd normally give this place three stars, but the combination of the Biggie, free popcorn and friendly bartender puts them up to four.

  • Angelina G.

Ah, the 35er. One of the few "divey" places I've been to in Pasadena (though the search goes on). This is a pretty decent place. Come here for the occasional drink with friends. Strong drinks, free popcorn, decent music (always a struggle in Pasadena) -- pretty much what you would expect from a bar like this. I usually don't come during game times (looks like it gets packed though. So pretty much, if you are looking for a place to have a quick drink with your buddies, stop by. Not much else going on here.

    (3)
  • Tiffany C.

D'Ann is the best bartender ever! I only go to the 35er for her! Everyone needs to check this place out!

  • Chantelle T.

Came here for a school event a couple months ago (desperately trying to catch up on my yelp reviews). I would stick to beer and simple drinks here. Don't order the mojito though, it's disgusting and a waste of money unless you like TONS of artificial flavoring. The downstairs area looks like a dungeon but it's nice and cool there so if you need to cool down, I'd recommend heading there!

    (3)
  • David T.

This is a pretty nice bar, and the staff was nice enough to change the channel on the big TV outside for me and my friend. We came here to watch the LA Kings playoff game, and all we had to do was order a drink! The outdoor patio seating was nice because there was a big TV outside that we could watch, and we could also do some people watching along Colorado Blvd. There was also free popcorn! The mixed alcoholic drink I got was rather pricey at $7, but the diet coke for my friend was cheap at $2, and it came with free refills! I was very satisfied with this bar because they took care of us and put the game on the TV we were watching, and there was no 2 drink minimum or anything like that. Thumbs up!

Ohhh good ol' 35er... the last couple of times I've been here it's almost empty... could it be the recession?? I only come here for their Guinness on tap its great they're drinks are good price and the bartenders are a tripp. Good place to have a beer and hang out.

  • Mamaa M.

My favorite divey bar in Pasadena. I would give them a 5 star rating, but I find the no visible tattoo policy appauling....REALLY 35er? In this day and age??

Average dive bar, average drink selection, slightly above average price. Can't comment on the downstairs sexcapade cuz that's not my scene...

GREAT TIME!!!! Came here with the wedding party (about 15 of us, wedding dress and tuxes still on) Fount a nice spot up front in a corner to fit us all in. Stacy the bartender was on her game. Was able to take my order while pouring another. Very fast considering there was only 2 bartenders (need to add a third 1 tho). I had no cash so had to keep running my card, and being I wasn't sure how long we were going to stay, so I don't want to keep it open. I know its a real pain in the a** but Stacy just did her thing. 1 thing I didn't like (mind you we had 15 people, 6 pitchers of beer, at least 10 shots, more monster vodkas) was with a tab of at least a $250-$300, had to pay for a pitcher of water!?!?!?!? Just weird. My bro went out to smoke and they would let him back in, but knowing my bro, he probably got a bit mouthy. Hey, it was his wedding day.... But all and all a good time!!!

Its a typical dive bar in downtown Pasadena. We've stopped by from time to time for a happy hour. The highlight... free popcorn! What can I say, I am a sucker for popcorn! The drinks were good, average prices, average environment. Wish I could report more, but it was just average, nothing memorable and not one of my go to places.

  • Jessica C.

I haven't been here in YEARS... so last night after my CMYE pampering Calvin and I decided to roll over here before we met up with everyone at Point 08... hasn't changed much..still very much a sports bar with same drink specials.. only thing different was you can't smoke in the patio area anymore.. we learned that when security literally kicked Calvin out for smoking in that area. ( cute highlight got picked up by a 24yr marine...oorah)....but I think I've outgrown this sports bar, so as much fun as it was to go down memory lane.. it's not my spot anymore.

3 stars for the street level, 2 stars for the bottom floor. The street level bar is chill and laid back even on Friday/Saturday nights. Been here on both nights and I like it. Good drinks and good bartenders. Even the bouncer has a smile on his face. =) The bottom floor is ghetto and looks like a dirty dungeon lol. As soon as we walked down the stairs, we got a whiff of that nasty public bathroom smell lol. Ewww. The drinks were good, but the crowd was very odd. It wasn't crowded at the time we were there, but those that were on the dance floor seemed to be having a good time. The music wasn't bad, but we wound up leaving and going elsewhere. I would definitely go back to the street level floor only... grab a drink and chill there, as I've done before, but I doubt I'll ever return to the bottom floor LOL. Not my thing and it's crazy that the two floors are like night and day.

Purple & gold balloon outside the place. These folks have the Laker spirit. I don't but I had $3 beers. There are multiple televisions throughout the bar. There is outdoor seating which no longer accommodates the smokers. Security looking tough at the entrance - don't piss him off. = I remember hating this place. I remember getting into it with security, the place smelling of ciggs, it being dirty, etc. I guess I should have written my review then. I'm glad this place looked and treated me better this time around.

  • Marie T.

Two stars for the decent priced draft beer but other then that there's nothing good about this place. It smells, the restrooms are always filthy & smelly & they have the dumbest & rudest bouncers ever!! There's this short fuck with shit for brains that dropped my bf on his head twice because he passed out & didn't want to wait 2 minutes for the rest of my group to come & help him. They were determined to get everyone out before 2 am & the way they were doing it was by yelling @ people to get the fuck out!! I know it doesn't take brains to work as a bouncer but you should @ least have the common sense of a child!! I know he is trying hard to earn minimum wage to buy his performance enhancing drugs to compensate for his height, but how stupid do you have to be to not know you don't treat a human being like shit unless maybe they're trying to cause you harm! No excuse for this type of treatment!! They are there to keep people from getting out of hand & keeping people on check, not to mishandle & mistreat people!! Sorry you missed your bus by having to drop people on their heads & dragging them out the back door, but maybe you should stop being a dumb ass & get a real job so you can learn manners & common sense!!

I always used to pass by this place when strolling down Colorado Bl. in Old Town Pasadena and used to judge it by the looks of the clientele drinking outside. Finally freed myself from the imprisonment of preconceived notions, and now this is one of my favorite bars in Pasadena. A gem of a dive bar! Cheap drinks and extremely friendly bartenders that pour stiff. Forget buying a glass of beer, I just buy a whole pitcher of Hef for $14 and enjoy it all to myself. What a bargain. Lots of charismatic drunks in here, but mostly they keep to themselves and don't bother anybody. The hi-tech jukebox is always blasting a variety of music, even though nobody feeds it any money. Nobody can beat my score on the Word Dojo video game on the counter. Be my guest and try..... Free popcorn, btw!

This place is a super dive. Floor is always sticky. Free popcorn. Not a place I would make a point to go to.

  • Talea F.

The beer selection is decent. However, they were out of the one beer that I wanted and didn't bother to apologize or make a suggestion. The chick bartender acts like she hates her job. I haven't seen her smile once. The TVs are small and the sound volume is so minimal you can't hear anything. Overall, it's a hole in the wall joint with shitty service. I won't be coming back any time soon.

A girl can come here alone to watch football and not be bothered. I'll let you decide if that's a good thing or not...

    (3)
  • Eric M.

Good place to watch sports, especially on the patio where you can also check out everyone walking by. Solid place to hang out during college football season. They don't let you smoke on the patio anymore. That's one of the reasons we liked coming here to watch games. Bartenders are great. Mixed drinks are kinda expensive, but they serve pitchers of beer so that's a better deal.

I recommend the "Silly Rabbit Trix are for Kids" drink. It tastes just like trix!

  • Mot Y.

Are you sure about this place? Total dive bar, which rules. Beer selection sucks and it is full of alcoholics. They have all sports games on LCDs. +1 It smells bad::: but are you ready for the best part? They have a dance club in the basement. YES! Scarey sh1t. I had 2 of my lady friends go here. It was a bunch of wrinkled dudes dry humping the walls....as well as these fine ladies. If you want to hang out with day drinkers, go here. Best time of your life.

I'm going to preface this review with the fact that this was the third stop in our Old Town pub crawl. It's super divey and there weren't that many people upstairs (at least enough to eat all of the popcorn; the machine was empty), but downstairs was quite the spot. I was extremely hesitant to go to another underground bar (we had just come from Jake's which smelled like a bathroom and felt like a sauna), but they had multiple AC vents and a huge fan that made it totally fine. Despite the hefty crowd, the insanely sticky floors (my shoes were covered in an unidentifiable black muck which I had to clean off the next day - gross), and the questionable/inappropriate dancing of other parties that should probably require some repenting, the DJ was really good and I had a really good time. Sure, I was with a really good group of of people who were super fun, but I'm sure that those are the only types of outings that people would logically subject themselves to. Seedy or not, I definitely wouldn't say no to coming back.

The WORST. Granted we are no "sports bar" crowd, but bad service and menu is universal. We took about 15 people here on a Monday night and we were practically the only people there. They changed bartenders at like 9...who does that?! Their menu was awful and not only that, half of it was unavailable. The 1st bartender was ok but the second was not only slow but she also can't read as I was charged somebody elses bar tab and a week later I am still waiting for this to get resolved. NEVER AGAIN.

This place sucks balls, seriously never go here, the bartender was a bitch, and so was the bouncer. There were maybe 3 people in here when me and my friends went here. The bartender was over six feet tall...and I guess doesn't like being told she has beautiful long legs. And the bouncer is like 5'8, 6 feet wide...They do have a pool table.

I do not have good memories of this place. As a child we used to live in the Block Building above the Cheesecake Factory. This would be the spot that my alcoholic degenerate father would go to get smashed with friends back in day in. Hell, in the 70's-80's old town was extremely shady, and this place was fucked up! Fast forward it 30 years or so, and the place is no longer a dump, just very old. It's still one of the few og spots in old town. I remember coming in here briefly with friends for a drink or two and just remembering the female bartender(s) being asses. Meh, the place still functions as an heirloom, but I'd rather drink elsewhere.

This is the best dive bar in Pasadena, the beers are cold, service id good and the woman are hot.

Reasons I like the 35er: 1.Cheap drinks 2.Dancing downstairs 3.Pool tables I like a good dive bar and this one is just that.

I can't believe this place only has one review!!??!! I've been coming here since the 80's, yes, 8.. Zero. It's changed with the times, the outdoor smokers patio being the biggest, but for the most part this place is still your favorite relevant dive in Pasdena. Stacey, the bartender, is just RAD I tell you, she's high energy and don't put up with bull. She hussles so you have to be ready with your order, if you are confused just ask her to make you something and she'll nail it most times. If it ain't right at least it'll be strong! They've updated their tv's finally, it's a good place to see sports. But only viewing, they have a net jukebox that's always on so best to hang with friends or strike up a pool or foosball game. You are going to get you money's worth here, most cocktails are poured in a pint glass! When I began to venture to other bars back in my corrousing (sp?) days and would get a regular 8 oz. tumbler I'd break a gear in my head, really, I thought I was being ripped off. I was young, what could I say? Now I'm old, and it's all good. (I've been to a bartending class and I understand that it's their business to sell alcohol, not to give it away. It's the job of the bartender to pour something that you can taste, and if you come back and say you'd like something stronger it's their job to ask you if you'd like a double) if you want to get your drunk on this is the place to do it, but they will also cut you off should you not look steady, so, they got your back, don't get mad at them!

Watches the UEFA final here and had a good time. Drinks were good, reasonably priced, and service was good. Free popcorn, too! Will definitely come back to watch more games and to shoot some pool.

This place is basically a sports dive that happens to be on Colorado Blvd. There are plenty of TV's to watch your games and pool tables if that's what you're into. I think this place has been here a long time because the decor was played out. The drinks were cheap and they serve free popcorn which was very cool. The spot is really casual so don't worry about a dress code or anything. I didn't like that there was a 3 second lag between the HD & non-HD TV's which got annoying. People at the other end of the bar would scream after a basket and I wouldn't see the play until 3 seconds later. For a whole basketball game...that sucks! Also, There wasn't any Bettys in there. I know it's a sports dive, but there should always be at least a few females to scope.

Haven't been here in a long while, but the last time was fun (from what I remember). Drinks here are RIDICULOUSLY strong and the service is great. I have to go back.... give it another round. But from what I recall, there was always this weird vibe in the joint that just made me feel.... uncomfortable? Not at home? I don't know. It's hard to describe. I've since heard other people say the same thing about it. I guess you'll just have to check it out for yourself.

If your in Old Town you gotta stop by this sports/dive bar....you'll have a great time. They have cheep drinks, the bartender's are awesome, the security team is cool as long as your cool with them. It does get a little "ghetto" at times lol but its all good everyone there is there to have a good time. They have some electronic games Ie: touch screen puzzle type of games for a dollar, a jukebox that is hooked up to the internet and is updated all the time. Along with pool this place is just missing darts but there is no where to put it.

Bar is fine, weird ghetto old school dance party downstairs on the weekends... But the real issue is making sure you don't step outside to make a phonecall on a night with a cover... no "in-and-out priviledges" so I had to repay to get in again, to join my group.... to leave. Even the blonde bartender we had been tipping all night suddenly didn't recognize me to waive my cover. Lame!

What i love about this place is that it has served a couple generations. I was talking to my older sister thats 14 years older than me that I was going to the 35er the other night with some buddies. She was baffled that this was the "in" place for my generation. I cant get enough it and neither could she. We love the drinks, the service, the atmosphere, along with the stories built there from generation to generation.

Pretty fun bar they have pool table, games and music. Bartenders are really cool. Very lively setting. I love the fact that they have a lower floor where they have a dj playing. They have drink special all the time... Yaaaaaaaaayy!

Place was ok. Nothing special. Damn Dodger fan shoulder checked me on way out but I guess what do you expect with their kind. Good place to play some pool with a bunch of dudes....it that is what you are into but to be fair I went there early.....

Didnt realize stepping in here would teleport me back to a college bar, except its populated by late 30 and 40 year old who are reliving their college years. I was hit on by mountain lions who thought they were cougars, and my friends being hit on by men old enough to be their grandparents. Their redeeming factor was the music, took me back to the 90s, and definately got the crowd moving on the dance floor. Drinks were cheap and stiff, or so my friends stated. I would go back just for the music but who am I kidding, I rather stay in the safety and comfort of wokano to this place

Freddie's 35er is very old school, cool, funky and fun right smack dab in the middle of Old Pasadena. So if you need to go to the Apple Store and then need a drink, this is your place. My friend just went to Barneys across the street to watch a Lakers game and it was such a nightmare she went to the 35er instead and had a great time. The only thing about the 35er is that they don't serve food - at all. Free popcorn, but nothing else, so be careful not to drink too much... or eat a LOT of popcorn!

    (4)
  • Denise L.

The setup of the place is cool: one floor is the main bar, and the bottom floor is the dance area with another smaller bar. There are also pool tables on both floors. The two times I've been here was on a Saturday night. Both times the crowd has been very casual and laid back. The DJ, although he did play a good variety of music, had a bad habit of switching from song to song way too fast so that you couldn't get a steady groove on. That was absolutely annoying!! The drinks were pretty stiff, so no complaints there. I would definitely go again. I just hope the DJ improves a bit.

ghetto bar that reminds me of those biker bars you see on tv. We were the only group of asians that were in there. I didn't like it at all, especially when some fat drunk man came out of the bathroom saying he how much he "crapped in the bathroom." Gross. Never coming here again.

I suppose that since this is listed as a "Dive Bar," Yelp's survey would only ask when is the best night to go here. Since I've had something of a sabbatical from Yelp for a good part of this year, I will share with you the absolute best time to come here, and is usually the time I come here most: Sundays. Particularly during football season. Patriots fans may have some extra fun coming down here, but any football fan would have a good time sitting down for a couple of rounds while watching one of the many screens with all of the day's games played all day. The popcorn will already be popped, and if you don't get there early enough, you may not get a good spot, as they're sometimes saved for particular fans of one team or another. If you're partial to them. liquor girls, like the Coors gals or whatever are sometimes there to take up pool table space. Whether you're a die-hard fan coming down all jerseyed up with your good friends, or just want a place to watch the game and bring your knitting, this is definitely the place to go. Oh, there's also the bacon bloody marys they've got that day.

Love the 35er! Been going to this bar for years. This place is truly a dive. Love the very unpretentious ambience. Service at the bar quick and fast on a typical after work week day. Happy Hour great! Don't care too much for the food. They have large size screen TVs where you can watch your favorite game while getting your beer buzz. Great place to hang out with good buddies and reminisce about the past. Kudos 35er!

I went there and i can say i've been too more than a handful of bars. i went on a Monday at about 2pm..and apparently Happy Hour started. Free Popcorn, and a jukebox that has a really good selection, the atmosphere was just how a bar should be. I've yet to go on a weekend, but having worked in the area i've seen what it can be like, especially on Gameday...they are avid Clippers and Patriots fans there so if you go in there with a chip on your shoulder, they have big bouncers to politely remove you from the bar. The bartenders are really nice, and some have a heavy hand, make sure to tip(bar etiquette), they have Pool tables that are pay-to-play, but if it's not busy, this is the place to go and just chill and kick back and watch one of the 10ish TV's that will have a variety of sports on them. Definately check it out during the week, weekends are busy. CHEERS 35er. (lil history-in pasadena you have to serve food to hold a liquor license, 35er got around that by installing a popcorn machine-no that's smart)

The Dirty Diver is definitely a sausage fest. For a girl, such as myself, that was a good thing to be...back in my alcoholic years. So, when my roomie brought me here in 98...I was sitting pretty. However, now that I'm a mom and not so much a barfly, well, it's kinda boring. You know what to expect here. *Lots of boys drinking pitchers, especially at happy hour. *Lots of sports on the TVs. *A barfly or two who stumble in off of Colorado on any given evening. *Bad cocktails (bartenders aren't the best pourers here) which are overpriced. *A good divey scene...lots of big hair, too tight jeans, and attitudes.

NOT THREE Stars... 3.5. In all fairness, 35ers is a cool place to hang out if you're with someone who can hold a good conversation. I really give this place a 3.5 because I like it, but I err on the smaller number because I really don't like the layout of the bar. Narrow and a bit cramped all the way. Anyway, I was delighted to find out my cranberry vodka and rhoda's tequila sunrise came out to $9. dope....The only time I've ever had such a cheap drink was in brooklyn. $5 cranberry vodka. Needless to say, I am esctatic that I can get raging drunk -let's say 'a fantastic buzzz' for less than $20. I love it. Another reason to come to Pasadena.

Pretty sweet little hole in the wall bar... They have pool tables and this popcorn machine... The drinks were pretty reasonable too... I think here it really depends on who you come with for the utmost entertainment value because the actual patrons are "different"...BUT there have always been good times :)

Good sports bar, thats about it though. If your looking for something "loungey" or ritzy this is NOT the place. But it's cool for drinking a few drinks/beers while watching a game.

Just an other dive bar with the best beers on the tap (my fav blue moon summer ale) and a great bartenders..very friendly people, all kinds of crowd on a Saturday night. Great place to play pool, they have 3 tables. Should be on your bar hopping list for the night!

I love this place and have been going here for years. But lately it seems to have become Old Town's homless shelter with all these dirty guys coming in grabbing popcorn and lurking around. I'm cool with the dive bar concept but this is a bit much. Get some door control and get another star.

The crowd is a little scary (if you're a girl, don't dress nice unless you're prepared to get seriously ogled), but the drinks. So cheap! $3 IPA?!? I am going to start coming here A LOT more often.

I've been in this place a handful of time, over the course of almost a year. The first time was for a friend's birthday party, there was a group of us and we just hung out at the bar and drank...and ate the free popcorn which I do love there! (Even if it is stale sometimes). It seemed like a cool little place, and I had a nice time with my friends just hanging out, although I don't really like the fact that it's kind of long and narrow which can mean 'hard to maneuver' if there's a crowd. The 2nd time I was with just a few friends, we went down and wanted to get a couple of pitchers and have some snacks...almost all the barstools were full, but other than that the place wasn't particularly busy. It was early evening in the middle of the week, so the place hadn't gotten the after 9-5 crowd yet. The bartender was totally inattentive, some tall chick. We finally ordered a pitcher, then had to wait to get her attention to ask for a menu...then had to wait to get her attention to order. She kept walking right by and ignoring us. We finally ordered food...then we had to wait to order another pitcher. It was a plain old bad experience. But my friends love the place for the fairly cheap drinks, so I went another time, just for pitchers, and the guy bartender was nice and friendly and got us our pitchers promptly. The most recent time I was there I took my boyfriend, who had heard lots about it but had never personally been there. It was a Sunday or Monday, and the place was moderately busy, but not crazy. We got seats towards the middle of the bar, and the bartender (I think his name was Jeremy) served us. He was friggin' awesome. He was funny and extremely personable. My boyfriend and I had a great time chatting with him and he's pretty much the reason I even gave this place 3 stars. I hope we get him every time we go in there! It's been my experience thus far that the guy bartenders are really cool, but so far I'm completely unimpressed with their female staff...I hope that changes the next time I'm in there and served by a woman. I personally have nothing against women bartenders...I used to be one!

Finished with dinner and still about 40 minutes to kill before our movie. I feel like having a nice strong cocktail. I've never been to the 35er, despite living in Pasadena for about a decade now. It always looks kind of scummy from the outside. The clientele who sit at the outdoor tables amidst stuffed ashtrays always seem like the sad, down and out, hardcore alcoholics, as opposed to the young, joyful, budding alcoholics. But, our options were limited. On the way in, we walked past a patron sitting at the outdoor table, asleep on his arms with an empty drink and a full ashtray beside him. This made me feel sad. Monday night, drinking and napping and smoking outside of a dive bar. This was not a young man, either. The depressed feeling lingered inside, where a few people were getting shitfaced at the bar on shots and beers. The bartender was female and cold. She brought us our drinks (very amateurish Guinness pour, frankly) and we retired to a bar. My husband salivated over the foozball table. The Frat Boy in him will never truly die. But I don't think I'd go back. This place was depressing.

this sports bar gets really packed, but definitely a chill place if you intend to watch the game here, but not so much to pick up girls (grenades from left to right). the downstairs basement also has a bar and a few tables, && has a dj which is pretty dope and spins top 40

Now I know why my parents went there forever. I went for the first time on a Friday night. Busy, but able to move around. Bathroom was a little crowded. Overall great place to hang out, hear the conversation you are having with the person next to you and prices are sweeeet! I gave it a 4 because they don't serve food, but if you can get some free popcorn, it's not bad.

A dive bar in Pasadena - how novel is that concept, especially given that so many faux-noveau bars there are in Old Town. Anyway, this place is simple, clean & the drinks are expensive. $3 for a shot? That's cheaper than coffee. While I don't drink, I do appreciate a deal. The bar is brightly lit, spacious, with large screen TVs over the bar & pool tables at the back. I'd categorize it as cross between a dive bar & a sports bar while keeping the best features of each - cheap, clean, friendly.

I should state that the reason for the four star rating is that one of the bar's regulars, Hector, is sticking his prison shiv into the back of my neck. No, it's not his pee pee, but if it was I'd still give this place four stars. Sorry, Hector. No five for you! The locals call this place the "Dirty Diver" and for good reason. When you enter this place there's a few things that hit you right away: The drunken toad of a man at the bar tries to deliver a right cross upon entry, so be quick! Next, the dead bodies are pretty alarming and, finally, the smell of stale popcorn and urine that permeates the premises Everyone here seemed hell bent on having a good time and evading local law enforcement, kinda like me. So I could relate to that. I came here after a visit to Bodega... Yeah, kinda like taking a hot shower and then having ice water thrown on you when you get out. SHocking! They do make the drinks cheap and stiff, again, like me, so if you are looking to get your date all liquored up, on the cheap, during these economically challenged days then I give to you the "Dirty Diver." I think their slogan is: "The 35er, killin' suckas since 1887."

Im a New Englander livin' out here in the greater LA area and Im always happy to roll by a bar and see a Red Sox banner in the window. Thats how I found the 5er. I had my first 35er on Halloween of '07. I sat at the bar with my coworkers and had a few drinks and talked about 'back east' with Todd, the bartender who is actually from MA as well. I love the place, haven't been back as often as I'd like and Ive been yelled at by Todd for that, but it's almost baseball season and Ill need a place to watch my Sox and the 5er is that place.

2PM on a Saturday afternoon - what's a girl to do?? Get DRUNK of course!! My partner Peggy and I wondered into this little gem after walking around Old Town Pasadena with nothing much to do. Walking makes me thirsty and what better way to quench my thirst than with some 80 proof alcohol. This place is a classic dive - pool tables, jukebox, alcohol...for cheap. It is rare to find a place nowadays that serves top shelf alcohol for about $5 a pop but on this special day we did :-) We were in good company as we sat and flirted with Johnnie Walker, Jack Daniels, Mr. Belvedere, and Chopin. Put your drinking face on and come thirsty!! This place will take care of your alcoholic needs at an affordable price. But please leave the beer goggles at home. The place is crawling with creepy old men. They don't dub this place the Dirty Diver for nothing.

Sober Bar Craw Stop #2 Bouncer- pretty friendly Amenities- free popcorn! There also looks to be a nacho cheese machine next to the Camels they were selling at the bar. Naked Photo Hunt machine. Crowd- aging frat boy types, hoochies who didn't want to wait in line at the club next door, OLD men hitting on said barely 21-year-old hoochies. Things of note- there's a downstairs where live bands play, two pool tables, fooseball, jukebox, a ton of different high end tequilas, happy hour drink specials (lots of crappy fruity concoctions, Bud and Miller on tap-- wow) Overall, the experience was awful because I couldn't stop staring at the old guy hitting on the trio of chickies in front of us or the people playing naked photo hunt at the bar. I didn't like the place and probably won't go back because the bar was way too bright. Who wants to be able to see the stuff we saw last night ever again?

Question: 3 ladies, Saturday Night, Old Town Pasadena, Boys at home - where to go? Answer: The 35er. "You guys don't really fit in here, you should be at The Edison or the Standard," commented one patron. We laughed to ourselves and said, "OH no no no...we went to college up in San Luis Obispo, this feels just right, thanks." 2 of my girlfriends from my sorority decided to meet up in Old Town to catchup and we were planning on going to Villa Sorriso, but upon arrival there was a line, a bouncer, and "bumping" music. NO THANKS. (note: there were still people eating in the dining area, bazaar) Then we headed down to Bar Celona - where it was pretty much a club, with icky guys and pushy people. Mojitos were good there, but it still didn't feel right. After we decided on the 35er, we sat with our strong poured Jack and Cokes and FINALLY got to catch up and meet pretty interesting people, to say the least. I never understood the appeal of clubs and probably never will.

I just love me some dive bars. This is up there but it's always a good time. I love their selection of beers on tap and there's a good juke box and 2 pool tables. A great hang out for catching up with friends over beers and if you wanna bar hop, there are many other bars hit here in Old Town Pasadena. Come check it out.

Amidst the high end clothing stores and premier brands in South Pasadena, you'll find the 35er wedged between it all. A sports bar...you might say.. but one with at least some personality! This particular sports bar can make you feel right at home with a hefty list of import and domestic beer on tap. The quality and selection of food is typical of a sports bar. Free popcorn is available next to the extensive jukebox containing classic hits and recent misses. The pool area is quite claustrophobic and near the restrooms and you'll be sure to be in a long line to wait for your turn. An underrated area is the downstairs bar where you'll more likely find a more relaxing vibe as there is a few booths with a couple of TVs displaying obscure movies (my Fave!) . This area is perfect for groups and a cheap dates that prefer a bit more alone time. Writing this review has piqued my interest in grabbing a cold one. Enjoy...

Went here on a Saturday night with my bestie and had a great time. We hung out down stairs where the dj was at. We got there early enough to get a table. Had a lot of different drinks and they were good. Don't know how much they cost cause her date bought them for us but I know they were STRONG because I got drunk. The music was good. Older hip hop. It was a older crowd which I didn't mind because I'm 26. If you don't want to do it big then this is the place to still have fun on a Saturday night.

Now that I'm getting used to this whole Yelp thing, I can't stop thinking of places that need some reviewing! I've had several different experiences at the 35er. Never bad, always interesting. I first went to the 35er when I was going to Art Center and couldn't make it back to the OC to watch the Kings hockey games, so I'd stop in here and catch the last period after class. (Good place to watch sports.) They have two pool tables that take quarters, put your name on the chalk board if you want next. I've seen a few machismo fist fights go down at the pool tables, so be careful what you say. (Or just go to Barney's down the street.) The staff kind of sucks. The bouncers are lame meat heads... but that's why they're bouncers. There IS one cool bartender who's always really nice and friendly and we love her (she's a brunette, sort of hippie-like). On the other hand, there is a blonde bartender who is a total horror to deal with. She is really unpleasant - rude, snotty, etc. We don't even sit down at the bar if we see her. A definite plus for the 35er is their juke box 1) has downloadable music, 2) takes credit cards. They have free popcorn (but dip at your own risk, I've seen drunk guys who were probably just picking their nose put their bare hands right in there and snatch out a pile... gross). BEST thing about 35er: Naked Photo Hunt - if you've never played Naked Photo Hunt, you're missing out on some hilarious adult fun (I always wondered how would I feel if I saw my 'sexy photo shoot' on Naked Photo Hunt). Final comment: I like it because I'm most comfortable in a dive bar (vs. some of the fancier, snootier bars) and the 35er is a dive bar right in the heart of Old Town.

For some reason we always start early at this place... Mid afternoon on a Saturday...I Love Lucy isn't on...damn sports... Let's go drink! 35er is it! Definitely a dive bar worth diving into! Cheap drinks, relaxing atmosphere, picture/puzzle video games, and FREE popcorn. Did I mention...they have CHOPIN vodka?! Heelloo....I'm in love! AND at a cheap price!! I LOVE places that provide a choice of vodka! Thank you...Belvedere on the rocks this time around please. Aside from the creatures that roam around...nosey nose, hippy hip, snaggul toothless fairy and other non-mentionables...it's a cool joint. Definitely NOT a place to meet people but rather enjoy 2 or 3 or 4 drinks :) Next stop...to the Taco Truck! (see yelp.com/biz/el-taquito-… ) Proceed with caution...no running please :D

This place couldn't suck more. I waited 15 minutes for a drink to no avail. The crowd was creepy and loud. Some hamsterneck dude was at the bar wearing shades at 11pm creating a vortex of stupid all around him. If you like neon lighting and meatheads then this is the bar for you.

I used to be a regular here but got engaged last year so don't really go much anymore. Hadn't been there since last summer and went this past Saturday. I was very disappointed that our dive bar had totally been upscaled to be like all the other wak clubs in Old Town or so I felt (only when you were getting in/ID checks etc). The familiar faces of the old security guards were no longer there and the new ones are so steroid filled (specially the tall bald white guy) and so unfriendly. Excuse me but the people who usually go to 35er are not 21 yr old drunkies that go to the other clubs like Menage or Ixtapa. Please treat us with a little respect. The drink prices seem to have gone up and that sucks as that is the reason we kept coming back. You can no longer smoke in the patio ( I don't smoke but my friends do and when you step outside to smoke they question you about how baggie your jeans are - hello dude I was just in there!!) They told my fiance his jeans are to baggy - he has big thighs if he wore tighter jeans he'd look like a fag lol! (Old Navy Jeans how baggy can they possibly be?) Well, needless to say I was very disappointed :-( The old bar I loved and knew is no longer there.

Last night the 35er saved my life.. no actually it was a few weeks ago..and Lucky Baldwin was bleeding people.. it was the EuroCup final... Spain vs. Germany.. SOOOO crowded at LB's with little TV screens.. so we decided to walk around the corner.. 35er! huge screens... place to sit.. and it was awesome possum.. i think its called Blue moon? on tap it was quite refreshing..cause it was getting hot out there... great time... i like this place.. i feel like there isnt enough places where you just get a drink w/o all the other bullsh!t. Spain won that day 1-0 over germany nice!.. but i feel like we all are winners with a place like the dirty diver. BTW i love Lucky Badwins but i also like big screens and a place to sit.. the 35er is definitely a good spot for a drink w/o all the rickety racketa.

THANK YOU, 35er. And thank you, Katey. I like to review things that are, in the grand scheme of things, totally insignificant. This is a review of the 35er's mere possession of the previously mentioned "Naked Photo Hunt". I was so enthralled with the game I was completely oblivious to whatever else was happening the entire time I was there. How were the drink prices? Doesn't matter! How were the bartenders? Who cares! Here is some insider info. "Naked Photo Hunt" contains some retro (I'm guessing early 80's) Penthouse shots in which you look at two photos and select the differences between the two. It's best to play single player mode but gather up all of your friends to help you because this game is timed and you really should get through as many photos as you can. It's best to talk loudly when playing, too. Say, "HEY! Her hair is covering her nipples in one photo and not the other!" or as my sister exclaims, "THE PUSS!" should there be something wrong with... well, you know. Also, don't even bother playing the version that contains photos of men. Saying things like, "his bow tie is red on the left, but black on the right," just doesn't lead to as much hysterics. I took away one star because the video game machine containing "Naked Photo Hunt" should be more readily accessible for large groups. In fact, the 35er should invest in 10 more machines and have NPH tournaments and post a big photo of the winner giving a "thumbs-up!" Of course, I would win.

I like the ambiance of this place. Lots of TVs.. and FREE POPCORN! It's good popcorn, too. Some pool tables towards the back and small booths for a more "private" setting. I was there on a Sunday and Dos Equis pints were $3 and pitchers of Mexican imported beer were $10. Good place to watch a game! (Go Lakers)

Oh the Dirty Diver. Dig this place. Love the door to door variety that this area in Pasadena offers. The 35er is a great spot if you don't mind getting your hands dirty and a reprieve from some of the other more collegiate (and yet, still entertaining) spots along Colorado. Drinks are cheaper than most. Bartenders are polite and engaging. And I always meet interesting folks and colorfully odd out of towners. For me the best part of going to this fine establishment is just staying for a few drinks. A boozy petit four, if you will. A palate cleanser amid a fun night in Pasadena. Probably somewhere after a drink at Moose's, before a beer at Baldwin's and way before I'm going to attempt dancing at Mc Murphy's.

  • Chelsea V.

This bar always has the most random crowd! I like it still....the drinks are pretty cheap too. I've seen 2 bartenders get into it with people that don't tip and people that yell at them to get a drink. I mean it makes sense, I've just never seen a bartender fight back. I thought it was awesome. I always tip and wait my turn, so I just got to watch. This is a nice little bar to stop into if you are shopping in that area. Nothing too special about it... they have a fooze ball table and 1 or 2 pool tables I think.

Go here if you don't mind a dirty, sticky, and loud atmosphere. It's fun on those crazy havoc inducing nights. It's what a bar should be. Great for watching the game & jukebox. The women are something to be desired and also the men. Nice bartenders though. Beer on tap is good.

The Dirty Diver is what it is. It serves its purpose. The bartenders are skanky and provide awful service, but there is always a decent beer on tap. When the tap is clean, you can get a good beer here. It's a cool place to watch the game because you get a good mix of people in here. It can get a little crowded during a big game though. The jukebox is quality and has some newer tunes. The tunes are better than the ones the DJ plays downstairs on club night. The patio is a nice place to check out the Old Town crowd. No food here, only popcorn.

    (4)
  • Elizabeth R.

Great dive bar! It's a good place to watch sports events. The downstairs is a place to avoid, but upstairs is lively and we always meet fun, friendly people. It's also a good place to get pitchers of draft beer and they can make pretty much any shot we ask for. You can also order pizza to have delivered to you in the bar.

we had some time to kill before an appointment late yesterday afternoon. the gf decided to go to barnes and nobles before meeting me here. i wanted to catch a few innings of the dodgers game and knew that this was supposed to be a dodgers bar. it definitely looks like one as you walk in. there are a ton of dodgers paraphernalia and gear lining the walls. i stepped up to the bar and noticed only one tv, of the many that were on, playing the game. most of the other tv's had the angels game on FROM THE NIGHT BEFORE. WTF?!?!?! major fail. plus 1 star for the clean taps pouring a diverse selection of tasty brews and the attentive courteous bartender....

I can't believe I'm close to writin' a hunnert reviews and I have not written about the Dirty Diver - er, I mean Freddie's 35er! I used to frequent this place when I was writing for the P-Dub - the Pasadena Weekly - back in the day. We'd put the current issue to bed and slink on over to the Dirty Diver with other members of the editorial staff, order a pitcher and commence to de-stress after a week of craziness. I started coming back recently with members of my marathon team who raise money for charity. The 35er has offered their basement room to us on several occasions to host our team fundraisers, and on each occasion we've had a great time. We brought in a DJ, set up a potluck, and held frequent raffles and a silent auction, raising some serious money for the cause. Some of the regular patrons would wander down from upstairs to see what was happening, buy a bunch of raffle tickets and throw in a buck or two in support of our cause as well which was cool. A few tips to the wise - this is a classic dive bar. That means at any given time you will find nasty, stanky bathrooms, sometimes inhabited by folks doing things that should be only in the privacy of their own homes. Also, in spite of it being a dive bar, Freddie's 35er is located in the hear of Old Town Pasadena, meaning you're going to have a heck of a time finding a place to park, and you're gonna pay good money when you do. They do allow smoking on the patio, and the smoke tends to waft into the main room, so if that bothers you, you might want to think twice about going here. All in all, if you can get over the weird juxtaposition of this being a dive bar smack in the middle of some of the most expensive - and popular - retail space in So Cal - and the fact that parking and other amenities in the area come at a premium - then this is a cool place to pop into on occasion.

  • Walt L.

My favorite bar in the area. What I like about the 35er is what it isn't. It isn't some corporate-chain outpost. It doesn't pander to the college crowd and it isn't some hipster spot where you need to be on the guest list to get in. 35er is the closest thing in the area to a locals hangout and really for me that's one of the best compliments I can give out.

    (4)
  • Jonelle B.

Ah The Dirty Diver! Before Old Town Pasadena went thru its gentrification this was a true dive bar. Stiff drinks, cold beer, a pool table and a jukebox. If I am feeling like a trip down memory lane I would stop in with a few old friends but, the memories really are better.

Textbook definition of a dive bar. Grungy, mismatched, dirty, loud, obnoxious...but carefree and laid back fun. It really sticks out like a sore thumb in the area that it's in, surrounded by a lot more upscale lounges, restaurants and shops. It can get really crowded, so be advised! The crowd here is really predictable. It's usually the most dressed down, mismatched, and disenfranchised of the nightlife goers in Old Town Pasadena. Lots of fats and uglies here. Best thing about this place? The huge popcorn machine that serves up a fresh batch each night, and is free to all patrons...which is wonderful considering beer and popcorn go hand-in-hand so well.

  • Mike B.

A great dive bar that's not really a dive bar anymore. Used to be known as the Thirsty Liver. I will always hold a place in my heart for this place. Ive been going here for 20 years. Never a dull moment.

  • Mike R.

I think at one point during my now 11 year tenor of diving at the diver I would have gave it 5 stars. However Bartenders and bounders come and go, and the ones that have gone were real good friends and genuine people. This was the after work bar of all after work bars, nowadays the owner is really screwing this place up for us s called old schoollers, but hey shes making money, good for her. Regardless the Diver is still a good place to have a drink, a smoke and a pancake, well maybe not the pancake, but if you got the gift of gab the Diver is the place for you. If you love to sit on a stool all alone and drink the day away, well you may want to try on a Tuesday night. The bar now has club 35er down below like 3 days out the week..such a social wannabe buzz kill! I still find my way there on a thursday or Saturday night and close the joint down. So check it out kids, you may enjoy it, or use it as the old transition bar like alwys ;) Cheers.

Not a bad sports bar on weekend when trying to avoid the San Bernardino/East LA invasion every Friday and Saturday. I hate to say it, but for some reason this is also a great 2 a.m. hook up spot. I don't know why, it's like the Bermuda Triangle of Old Town Pasadena, you just get sucked in, every damn time. It gets embarrassing. So ashamed.

    (4)
  • Zé M.

If you run into a Scotsman who might be there from 1pm to 1am on a Saturday, tell him Joe sent ya. +1 star b/c some friends hang out there all the time and we get some deals.

  • Eric F.

New Year's eve, and the 35er (aka Thirty-Diver, ohohoho!) has the smallest cover charge. $12 pitchers, a pool table downstairs, small dance floor and DJ, it all made for a pretty decent New Year's. Wasn't too hard to get the bartender's attention, who was pretty helpful recommending some beer.

    (3)
  • Steve M.

Average dive bar. Drinks are not THAT cheap, and the guests on the one night we went ended up dropping two glass pitchers, fighting, and finally being tossed. The pool tables are a nice addition but is seems everyone here as some edge from working crappy jobs all day long. That being said the bar staff was friendly and attentive.

    (3)
  • Cynthia S.

I've watched a few games here. It gets really crowded so don't plan on getting a table or some space to even stand or move b/c that's how crowded it is. They got some pretty cool TV's. On a non-game day it's very chill but it's freakin bright in there! They have a basement, I didn't go down there but it sounded like they had a DJ playing some hip hop.

    (2)
  • Wayne G.

This place is a decent spot. Maybe a little small, but I did notice an additional section downstairs. We couldnt go down there so I had no idea what was down there. They had a couple of pay as you play pool tables which is kool. In my honest opinion the place needs to be packed with friendly people because it does not have much to offer. I would not want to go there during a game night or a weekend.

Use to live in Pasadena. There was nothing like it if you can make it your local joint (which it was). I do miss my 35er (Debbie and Todd) were always welcoming with open arms and ready with a cold pitcher of Miller Lite. Plan on returning to Pasadena mid-September just to sit and have a pitchers of beer and watch the crowd walk by.AHHHH the good old' days. No words can describe the feeling of getting off of work at 3:30 and meeting my husband at 5pm for some happy hour pitchers, game of Tai-Pei, popcorn and playing music on the Juke Box, then walking over to King Taco for a late night meal. What I wouldn't do to make it all happen again, the simplicity of easy.

  • Sean P.

Good place to hop in to when i need cocktail break from lucky b's or old towne pub. Not a huge fan of the crowd, but I am not a sports guy. I don't know who is in first or who is on second. If you do, you might fit in and love it. Smoking in the front is good but gets crowded.

  • Rowena D.

This bar has become a staple in my social life, and is usually the place where we "end up" after a long day. First 2 stars for keeping it simple and keeping it real. Perhaps it's the authentic "bar" feel that keeps the boojie people out, but whatever the case may be, I'm grateful for the humble crowd. +1 star for the awesome bartendress, her cowboy hat, and her braided pigtails. +1 star for telling my friend Ace and I that we were the best dressed twosome in there. Ada boy Ace, for wearing a bow tie to a 'dive' bar.

  • Allie T.

My boyfriend and I were on a mission to find a bar/restaurant/etc that was going to play the Laker game and UFC 98 so we ended up at the 35er..and I'm glad we did!! The bartenders were really cool, the beer was relatively cheap, the crowd was full of Laker fans and UFC fans (so my review may be a little biased) and they had enough big screen tvs upstairs and downstairs so we didn't have to worry about where we ended up finding a seat amongst the crowd. They also have popcorn machines!!! I'm not a big fan of popcorn, but hey when you're drunk and watching your favorite team playing, it's nice to walk just a few feet to scoop yourself a bag of popcorn. Overall, the 35er is a chill, no-frills kinda bar, but it definitely served its purpose!! I would definitely come here again if I just wanted a chill night.

  • Janice D.

Review is 3.5 stars. This place was HOPPIN' on St. Patty's complete with green beer, a bagpipe and drum band, free beer merchandise like tacky green Budweiser necklaces and beads and foam leprauchaun hats, which = lots of people and lots of fun. Took a while to get the bartender's attention, but there were a ton of people there vying for her affections. It was hard to get through the bar and even harder to get through downstairs with the DJ going. It was fun. Maybe I'll just come back for St. Patty's Day.

  • oh y.

Went here last night at 11:50p, seeing how at 12 midnight itd be my 21st birthday... My gf told the bartender i was 10 min away from my b day and we didn't know what I wanted to have as my first drink.. She looked at us and told me I had to get out.. A couple of minutes before midnight... Seeing as how I have always wanted to be a regular there, the bartender completely acted fucked up and made my first memory at the 35er a real shitty one, I will not be returning here.

    (1)
  • Jerry Z.

Ok, It takes me 12 minutes to get there ( I timed it ) , lol. Its a good hang out spot on Friday nights when you dont want to get into too much trouble. Michelle is cool.. They have an OK selection of beer and a jukebox that plays anything from white Zombie, Smiths.. to some spanish rocks stuff..mixed crowed and tons of regulars.. If you want you can play pool but the tables are small.. Downstairs is good if you have a date.. and want to keep it secluded! Oh.. lets not forget the free pop corn.. yes Free pop corn.. delicately made to perfection with aged oil.. lol. Get some lemon wedges from the bar.. and squeeze on the pop corn..Just give it a try! And since old Town is crazy with tickets and parking...So here is a tip if your cheep, park on Colorado Blvd by the 210 exit..where the Audi dealer is at. after 5pm its free all night on the steet... Oh yes its a sports bar.. but really who is looking at sports...

I've been coming here since the 80's and used to be a regular when I lived in Pasadena in the 90's. It hasn't changed much. It's a great bar with good and affordable drinks. Great music and lots of TV's for sports. The bartenders I've dealt with......Debbie, Charise & Stacy are all unique but are excellent drink makers. Debbie has been my "therapist" for years. I recently had my bachelor party there and they were all fantastic. Just don't act like an A-hole and you'll have a great time. Cheers to Freddies!

  • Caitlin C.

My roommate and I hang out here when we head back to LA. It's a decent bar. One of the bartenders (forgot the name) makes really good lemon drops. It's awesome. It's a good place to hang out right off the main strip of downtown pasadena! Good days to go is Friday and Saturday :)

  • Stephen K.

One of the last remaining businesses from the OLD Old Town. This place is a dirty dive serving cheap beer and shitty loud music. They also have pool, darts and video games. This is a good fall back spot for when Lucky Baldwin's gets too crowded.

    (3)
  • M S.

Ah yes, the dirty diver. A bar for the ages, well, the middle-aged to be more precise. Hey, the bar's name is 35er, what do you expect? It's smack dab in the middle of a "higher-end" eating/shopping district. Though, is this really a dive bar? I can't tell, I suppose so, when you consider your options. But my definition of "dive bar" is a place where you can drink, and no one will bother you or ask any questions. You're not going to get that here. But, you can't beat the prices, the patrons are generally friendly and will leave you alone....unless you're A) rooting against their team or B) have a nice rack...

    (3)
  • Maximillian M.

I can't help but feel like this bar is really full of itself. It's really nothing special, though it's the first place I've been to that has Peroni on tap. And, too much love for the Clippers (God bless 'em), judging from the decor. It's a sports bar, comfortably predictable. I wouldn't go as far as call it a dive bar (like its category states), it's a step up from one. You want a dive bar, you need to check out the Power House in HollyHood...

  • Mabel L.

I can't believe I'm the 1st to review this old ass establishment. I must not be hanging out where my fellow Yelpers are!!! (*feel embarrass!) I remember standing outside this spot when I was in Junior High & thinking "this is the first place I want to get into when I get old enough". The ppl looked so cool here...fast forward to 10 years or so (I won't date myself) & I finally stepped into this place. Not as cool as many other bars I've been to, but there's a comfy feel to this spot. The security guard, Juan is very cool, the bartendar (sorry I forgot your name), she's funny & serves up drinks pretty strong. And there's a patio facing the street where you can smoke & drink. Me like that.

3.5....watch the USC game here and drank beer....(its just what we do)....plus they were giving us free hot dogs and the bud girls were here giving away shit......good location as well.

I like this bar. Old school dive bar with good service, reasonable prices, and free popcorn. I like the fact that all their TV's have a super sharp HD picture, which many bars skimp on. It is a simple, fun, and uncomplicated, unpretentious bar.

Went to this bar for the first time this past Saturday night. This was our alternate option after our original plans not working out. The place seemed busy, something similar to Big Wang's in North Hollywood. However, we headed to the basement where there's a small dance floor with live DJ, bar and pool section. Apparently it never gets that crowded, but this night there were way too many people. Drinks were good, prices were decent. The girl bartender that night (red & black hair) just didn't have any people skills, so we went with the guy. Its a bummer they close at 1 AM. I guess I will need to give it another try when its less crowded.

One of my new fav bars, cool ppl, good drinks, fuss ball, pool, and its in Old Town Pasadena. Its got two levels also. Its a bar bar, not club like at all. And it plays 80s rock. Its also one of the few bars with fuss ball. I love it!

  • Tony T.

It's a dive of a place in Pasadena. Since I typically don't hang here, I was surprised to be carded, not that I look old or young for my age. It was just a general thing they did with everybody so it's not like the bouncer was trying to compliment anybody. There's a pool table with TVs showing various sporting events depending on the time of the year. There's also a little popcorn machine to get your share of popcorn if you desire. It's a pretty casual and laid back place which can get crowded from time to time. The people are nice and the bartenders make some pretty good drinks at a decent price. So if you're looking for something really casual in Pasadena, stop by for a drink or two!

    (4)
  • Allison T.

I've been a regular for a good 4 years now. The bar is very dive and drinks are affordable. The bartenders are really chill. Fridays and Saturday nights there is a DJ down below. Free popcorn every night, but if popcorn is not enough their bar food is decent. There is a 10 dollar minimum on credit card charges, but that goes buy after two drinks anyway so no problem.

  • kimble k.

one of the better local pasadena bars. this place has averagely priced alcohol. pool tables, dart board, live pay per view shows, smoking area and video games. great place to meet people, on the weekends that is. on the weekdays, its pretty much the usuals. i would recommend this place for a nice night out with the hommies. it's especially more fun when there's a fight on tv. good drinking!

    (4)
  • Tricia M.

this place is a str8 up dive! for what pasadena turns into on a friday and saturday night...the 35er is the bizarro version of that. you get free popcorn and decent black and tans and pitchers of guinness. someone mentioned the questionability of the department of health ever paying a visit...i second the emotion. i just try and take comfort that alcohol kills germs

    (3)
  • Janielle A.

no matter how much my friends complain that this bar's crap. i try to grab at least one drink there if i'm out in old town. its just such a BAR, just a typical BAR, that there's nothing not to love. free popcorn, sports playing on every tv screen, a weird mix of people (makes people watching awesome, lol), and friendly faces all around

    (4)
  • the one m.

i love this place. nothing like it. its a great spot to go have a pitcher with the boys or take a date. its not pretentious and the have free pop corn! what else can you ask for. downstairs in the back they sometimes have a power 106 dj or something which aint that bad, but im not really there for that vibe. i prefer the laid back, play pool and drink atmosphere. i recomend this place highly. check it out next time your in old town

this place is fine for just hanging out when you have nothing better to do. grab a pitcher and a booth or a pool table. here is the thing though. if you are a guy and out with the guys just to have a good time, i am sure you will. i was one of about 4 girls in there. and i wasn't all that impressed with the guys in there--fun just not the best looking drunk guys I've ever met. so i wouldn't go there to meet people, but if you go with the people you want to talk to anyway you will have a good time. i thought the bartenders were nice and the people were cool, if not attractive. its a dive bar, but not a good time anyway. gets a little crowded though. we were sitting at this table and some guy just decided to set his pitcher that he was drinking directly off of on the table and play a game of pool before returning to his beverage. didn't say a word to us. gotta love those kinda people.

A nice dive bar in the middle of the trendy and/or chic boutiques and eateries. It keeps the universe in balance. Countless times through the years I have ended up here after shopping, drinking, eating, dancing. Just to balance out the Universe, you know. I have never had a problem with asshole bouncers or bitch bartenders. Just friendly service and relaxed atmosphere with every type of person from every walk of life. They have a popcorn maker. Help yourself. Some video games. Oh, the last time I was there, they had this Red Grape Hibiscus infused vodka that was really good with tonic and a lime. yelp.com/biz_photos/Crpt… . Try it. Not sweet, just refreshing yelp.com/biz_photos/Crpt… .

I'm giving this place 4 stars because even though I thought the menu was terrible (all fried foods, but there was a grill out front with burger/cheeseburger/tri-tip for abou $6-8), it was the only bar I could find that opened at 10am on Sunday. Um, hello?? It's football season, and the earliest games start at 10am - why aren't more bars open?? So yeah, Freddie's gets my vote, and I'll probably be there every Sunday that I'm in Pasadena. There were a bunch of TVs, but I didn't like how there wasn't much audio. I know that's hard to do in a sports bar, but I've been to some that make it happen. The seating is a little uncomfortable - definitely bar style, no cushy boothes or seats with backs - all stools!

Hey what can I say...it's close to home, it's good drinks for a good price and it's fairly low key. It gets busy on the weekends - what bar in Old Town Pasadena doesn't? I came here to watch the UFC fight with a group of friends. Had a good time.

Spent New Year's day at Freddie's 35er watching the Winter Classic and then the Rose Bowl game. Nice mix of Michigan and Stanford fans plus locals. Everyone super friendly. A guy was grilling meat for soft tacos, and onions and big bacon-wrapped dogs. Dogs w/grilled onions only $3, soft tacos with all the fixings were $2. Went great with our BIG margaritas and bloody marys. Solid drinks and grub for a great price in Old Town, plus ample flat screens all playing sports. Can't beat it.

Had a pitcher of Stella and was pretty disappointed. It was really watered down and my friend and I thought it was a deal to pay the extra bucks for the pitcher instead of a pint. Like, really disappointed. I appreciated their free popcorn machine! I have never seen that at another bar and the fact that I can go up and help myself is pretty neat! They also had live music, bands playing. I need to check out their downstairs and see what goes on there!

Freddie's 35er is a weird kind of bar. Kind of great, kitschy, coated with layers of grease and black paint, it has its locals- perfect for daydrinking. Friendly but no nonsense bartenders. Usually a bouncer in here especially if a game is on. Beers on tap- about average but they do have usually one or two IPAs. Free popcorn machine. I was in here during the holidays and a huge group of sleazy Santas came in. Good times. Also have been in here in the "dungeon" downstairs to watch UFC and that was ok too but I felt a little claustrophobic. I have seen some loud, obnoxious types on the outside patio here smoking as I've walked down Colorado before, but have never experienced them inside. Oh and they had an Abita beer on tap before here too. Nice.

I came here, excuse me, TRIED to come here on a Friday night with my boyfriend. Before we could step foot inside, however, we were informed by the doorman that on Friday and Saturday nights they dont allow people (my bf) with visible tattoos inside. My boyfriend, who is an air force sergeant and has a small tattoo of his mothers name on his neck, and I, were frankly baffled and appalled. We are both very well dressed and groomed people. Did I just go back 70 years in time?? And really, do you think by barring people with tattoos you're going to up the class of your beer soaked establishment? That's how you know the owners are getting desperate. Frankly I have a mind to sue this place. Effing straight up ridiculous.

This review is merely based upon the downstairs dance scene that I partook in last Friday. It was awesome LOL ! My friend and I flashed our ID's walked straight in, took a quick right and down the stairs we went and had a blast. It was packed but had enough room to move around. It was like one of those heated yoga classes because it was so hot down there, sweat rolling down my back. The DJ was also really good. I will most definitely come again.

Came here in my 20's , returned in my 30's same old ass place , But today I learned they pull your bar stool at a certain time of the night. We've been regulars the last couple of years and this was a first and it's the lamest Thing I've experienced . Goodbye 5er , the greed of your descendants has killed it for us. Founders should be rolling in their graves.

Me and some friends went here after a long hike. We felt like having a drink, but were filthy from the hike and certainly not dressed up. Someone from the hike recommended we go the 35er as it is a caual spot. We are not from Pasadena and although there is a local feel, we were not made to feel like out-of-towners. The customers and staff were both friendly and it was a bit upscale compared to other "dive bars" I have been to. The drinks were average amounts of alcohol and average prices. They have a decent selection in the jukebox. I would go again if in the area looking for a casual watering hole.

When you walk in the place it's a bar, but if you turn right at the entrance it's the club. It's really small and stuffy. You walk through the dance floor to head to the bar. The bartenders are fairly nice and prices are okay. Nothing crazy here just a nice place to hang out.

I like the fact they have Sam Adams Cherry Wheat Beer on tap. Tasty! That being said I don't like anything else here. Just not my type of place.

Perhaps I have been too harsh on you 35er. I remember you from the days when you might get a beer or into a fight at this place but usually you got both. Or maybe those are just the stories I remember being handed down to me by those older than me as I don't actually know anyone that ever got into a fight here. I went to the dirty diver not long ago, one of those friends of a friend celebrating a birthday here. I was hesitant to go, I mean King Row which I really like was just steps away, why couldn't we just go there? It had been years since I had visited and the layout was the same, UCLA was playing a home game and the bar was bustling with energy. I was able to find a spot at the bar, TV playing the game behind the bar. People of all sorts where in the place, everyone was getting along. The random people at the bar I chatted up where friendly. Once the bartender saw I was getting a 2nd beer she recommended a pitcher is it would be cheaper than the individual beers I was buying. I had forgotten this place had a dance floor, one of the few in old town. The dance floor was packed, DJ was playing a good mix of music. Why didn't I like this place? This is a bar, with pool tables, cheap beer, TV's playing the game(s) and a dance floor.

This bar is pretty darn sweet. the bartender inside was really friendly and tried to give you as much attention as he could considering the place was PACKED. I was really psyched because they carried Summer Shandy on tap! Not too many places serve that. We realized that they also have a really cool bar/club down in the basement. The DJ was playing 90's rap which was AWESOME. Had a really great time here overall. I plan on returning.

service was slow, the older women bar tending failed to aknowledge myself and a group of friends. they straight walked by us and ignored us and finally took our drink order about 20 min later!. I had to yell and wave which i dont like doing. Also beer selection was not good! go next door instead to kings gastro pub!
