Service is simply great. All the waiters and waitresses I've met so far had a sincere smile in their faces and were very efficient. They're nice people, and if you talk to them you'll agree with me (I really value this kind of thing). So far, I'm very happy with the food too. The Vera Cruz Shrimps are among my favorites. I wouldn't order steak at a Mexican restaurant, because it's really not their specialty I guess. I tried that, and felt a bit disappointed with the steak (the sides were great though). Chips and salsa taste good, and are in endless supply in this place.

I've only been here a handful of times. I have no complaints.. they're always generous when pouring my jack on the rocks.... I think i left pretty drunk every time.. good times. I've only eaten the sample platter from their appetizer list and shared with a friend... it's a lot of food for even 2 people. The prices aren't bad at all and their portions are decent.

The Cheese Inchilada was the best. They have very quick service and the seating is good. The food is filing and and tasty. Parking is fine. It has a bar on one side of the resturant and the drinks are good. Ill be back here very soon.

The only reason to go to Amigo's is the Margaritas. They are about $7-$8, but you really only need one (two if you are extra tough). It's the kind of place where you can get food in the cantina or in the restaurant, depending on the noise level you prefer. Chips and salsa are always abundant and the servers are pretty good. The food is edible, but really not good at all. Basically, go get a drink here, consider ordering another one, then as you stumble to the bathroom, reconsider that second drink because you are already too drunk to drive.

I'm not really into Mexican food but Amigos is my favorite Mexican restaurant. The food is good, the portions are ridiculously large but what really gets me every time is the service and the Margaritas. I also love that it is so easy to just show up and get a table for a large group with no notice. My friends and I have had many late night gatherings here. This place a great hang out.

I don't know what these bad reviews are about. This is a great little place with authentic homestyle mexican food (I should know!) and a great atmoshpere. The habanero salsa (you must ask for) is fantastic and super spicy. You can tell it was made from fresh grilled habanero peppers. The tamales are HOMEMADE and delicious, but are made fresh so sometimes they run out. The chicken enchilada is delicious, the only enchilada anywhere I have found to like. Their guacamole is fresh, and their margaritas are strong (and tasty!) as well. I had the albondigas once and it was just like mom makes it! I can't vouch for the rest of the menu, but isn't that enough of a reason to go there? The bar side has a few cozy tables you can order dinner from, very intimate and nice. When we went last it was a Sunday and there was a nice familiar crowd that started trickling in at about 10pm - understandably as it has a very nice atmoshpere and a kitchen that closes at midnight. (In Pasadena? Unbelievable). Our waitress, Lorena, was awesome. So friendly, she even shared some home cooking tips with me. Amigos is a gem! Definitely give it a chance, especially if you like real people places and homestyle mexican food!

It's more like bar food Mexican-style. It's a good enough atmosphere, perfect to get together with friends over a potent margarita. Just for drinks here-it sure beats going to the Colorado!

A pleasant surprise... I'd driven by it for years and never given it any thought. The food is good and moderately priced. I would go back and recommend it to others.

  • Ana R.

i like me my cheap, but good, strong drinks, but not ridiculously strong so that you can't taste anything else. and i like the free chips and salsa. i've only been on the bar side, so i can't speak for the food.

Terrific mid-market authentic Mexican food at Amigo's, in pretty typical way. But of course the main draw to Amigo's are the margaritas, which are almost always great (we did get a toxic batch here once that almost put me in a coma, but I still went back). Good for groups looking for a mid-afternoon margarit-esta and some salty tortilla chips and salsa to go with. Service is always friendly. Slide into a dimly lit booth in some corner, order a pitcher, and you're good to go.

I started going to Amigo's when I was a student at Caltech in the '90s, and I still find myself going back. It is a regular hang out for many Caltech students especially the physics student. Nowadays, my wife and I go to Amigo's once a month. My wife thinks the food is great and I think it's average. But we both agree that the ambiance is relaxed and friendly. Every person working at Amigo's is friendly and pleasant. The bar is also tons of fun. It's more like a local bar. Many regulars. The juke box has a great selection of classic rock and other good music. The margaritas in Amigo's are decent but be careful. They are deceptively strong. If you want to get someone drunk without them knowing, take them to Amigo's and give them margaritas.

After reading other reviews, I had to laugh. I've been coming to Amigos since before I had an I.D. - and that pretty much sums it up. They're not big on the red lighting of anyone and their drinks are STRONG STRONG! I ducked in recently and we had the YUMMIEST quesadilla known to man! And that was before the beverages. I've always found their service, food and especially cocktails to be excellent. Besides that, the main restaurant part is totally suitable for families. As for the "shady" factor...come on people...it's a bar on Colorado Blvd. If you were homeless in that vicinity and you noticed that drunken smokers are always good for a cigarette or a buck, you wouldn't stray far. Amigos has everything I want in a mexican restaurant... dim lighting, strong drinks, and free chips. And of course neon aztec wall paintings!

I got the camarones el diablo and it wasssss gooood. Wifes chile relleno was too breaded but everything else was good. Large plates full of helpings. My wifes margarita was the absolute strongest margarita she's ever ordered from any restaurant. It needed to be toned down a bit.

  • Katy R.

**plip, plip** That's the sound of my pant buttons...after I gorged myself with the salsa and chips and cheese enchiladas ( I couldn't breathe :& ) **awwwwwww*** That's the sound I made after downing a crisp coke after dinner. **snuggle-snuggle** That's what I did with my boo after we ate comfort food at Amigo's.

First time i went to this restaurant to celebrate my son in law birthday. I really like it . The atmosphere was nice. They have a variety of mexican dishes, i got enchiladas , i got plenty of food, so i took left overs home. The margaritas are good, but i like better the ones in Acapulco restaurant, i could go back again.

Great food! Everything we had was excellent: chiles rellenos, tacos, tamales, and everything else on the combo platter. Yum!

For Pasadena.. Sit down Mexican food is served No better.... reasonable priced, delicately sliced; cocktail's a flowing, margarita's DESTROYING!!!! Have anything, or just sit and chill at the kool bar with great jukebox.. Just keep this on the DL.. The bar already has no room to sit down at.

  • Courtney H.

Came with Debbie Y. for dinner one night, as we'd decided on Mexican food and I'd asked her to choose. The place is known for the great margaritas, so of course we each ordered one, and I couldn't finish because, as Kevin C. commented, one will make you tipsy and I think I had a cold or something that night, so didn't have as much of an appetite for alcohol. I ordered the chicken soup, which wasn't very tasty, and maybe huevos rancheros. I remember the chips and salsa being yummy.

    (3)
  • Joie P.

I wouldn't say the food sux but it isn't the best mexican food I've ever had either. I've been here late at night and I've recently been there for a quick dinner with some hawtness I call my boyfriend. The chicken burrito was so full of chicken that I almost forgot it had beans! I had to have him help me finish this monster. The chicken quesadilla that my beau devoured was satisfying but still not the best he's had (pssst..Pepper's!). The chips and salsa are definitely restaurant quality. We both agree that we would go back.

    (3)
  • Mal S.

Great service! delicious foods. We ordered a few chimichangas, which were fried to perfection; a carnitas plate; arroz con pollo; steak nachos; and guac. None of the food items disappointed. The salsa was delicious. The waiter was nice enough to bring us all of the variations of the salsa they have. The classic red was definitely the best. Would return.

Has this placed changed hands in the last few years? I use to go there with golfing buddies and mostly to drink. I do remember their food being sub par and sometimes, down right awful so needless to say, I'm very curious how a one time known dive with bad food is now being raved by so many.

I've been on a Mexican food marathon for a few weeks. We were in large group and were seated promptly. The wait staff didn't go over the food specials for the day. We requested two separate for our checks and met with some resistance initially. The food and drink service were quick and the wait staff checked on our table periodically. The food quality and taste were average with good portions and reasonable prices. This is a "keeper" for large groups after you've taken in an event in the Playhouse District.

Best margaritas, hands down. My friends and I get the pitcher and there is never any left over.

  • Casey M.

Amigo's is my favorite Mexican Restaurant. Everything I've tried has been awesome. Carne Asada and Carnitas Tacos are excellent. The Arroz Con Pollo is so yummy. The Ceviche is so good and there is so much of it! Endless chips and salsa. Let's not forget the Margaritas. That's why we all come here. They are so strong. It seems like I make a trip here at once every couple of weeks. The service is great. The bathrooms may be a little on the yucky side, but I'm not going to Amigo's for the bathroom.

    (5)
  • Ara P.

Grete place to go drinking with friend's, their margaritas are a must have only for 8$. I am there at least once a week. As far as there food, the chicken quesadilla is good. I can't recommend anything else because that's all I had.

  • Jen D.

I've been looking for a good mexican restaurant for 3 years, so I feel super lucky to have found Amigos. The outside is really unassuming, so you have to "brave" it through the front door to find a friendly and welcoming restaurant and staff. I really enjoy this restaurant. Heard about it from my real estate agent when I moved to the area. Let's start with the margaritas - you get intoxicated from the smell! They are strong, so be responsible and bring a DD:) They are tasty too, a rarity among a strong margarita that isn't brimming with premium tequila. I have had the macho chimichanga, the chicken tamales, and the mole. The first two were great and the latter was still good. Great chips and salsa. Parking is in a little lot in the back or anywhere on the street - check the signs closely before leaving your car.

  • Danton N.

Great place to stop after work for strong but tasty margaritas. I like the most relaxing and easygoing atmosphere. Food is not really the best mexican in town but definitely does the job. This is the place to experience some local vibe and get relaxed with your friends.

    (4)
  • Gerard I.

The food sucks but the service was great. The margaritas are strong, at least the Cadillac was. I had to chase it down with a Tecate. I had the carnitas burrito, blah, there are much better spots that serve a good carnitas burrito--it was small too. This place is open kind of late, we left at 12am, and people were still coming in. If you must come here, avoid the food, and go straight to the bar. I'm reading that this place is "shady", we experienced none of that. In fact, when we walked in, it was dead. It picked up shortly after. Remember, Drinks=YES Food=NO

Love this place! Great margaritas and super fast service! Food is awesome too!

  • David M.

Great Service, Decent Food. Not the best Mexican food, but a lot better than what is in the area (better than El Portal, La Fiesta Grande). Service is great and the margaritas are STRONG. One of these days, I'll make it into the bar area for a couple cold beers.

    (3)
  • emily t.

Firstly, margaritas. Secondly, margaritas, thirdly, margaritas! as a pasadena local there's nothing better than spending a chill weekend in old town with my roomies and having a satisfying dinner and beyond amazing margs at Amigo's. It's a great atmosphere, a great place to hang with friends, a great place to spend a relaxing weekend night or rewind after a crazy weekday. Never any complaints at this place

    (4)
  • Jyenny B.

I come here because the beer is served ice cold, the margaritas are strong and the carnitas tacos are bomb. The service ranges from OK to good. Decor and ambiance, not so much.

    (4)
  • Simeon T.

I'll be honest I didn't eat here, I didn't even spend 30 minuntes at this place. What I did do was come in after a wine and cheese party and have a pitcher of margaritas and sangria. I ate the free chips, which were so-so, with the free salsa, which was awesome, and drank until last call. The margaritas will knock you on your keister, and the sangrias were awesome. It was a great place to pretty much enjoy a few drinks with your friends. I don't have much else to say for it, because I don't remember much after a couple of pitchers of margaritas. Also they had a student discount which knocks 10% off the bill.

As my colleague put it, this place is a great place to have an affair. The dining area is dark and feels somewhat shady. So if you feel like an affair, this is the place to go! As for the food, it's good. I ordered the carne asada burrito and had them take out the beans from the burrito. The burrito came "wet" and was one of the better burritos I've had. I didn't think the service was all that great. My glass of water stayed empty for the latter part of my meal.

  • Megan D.

We come here mostly for Margaritas!! They are large, strong, and very yummy for what you pay! I also enjoy the endless tortilla chips and salsa. The food is great for the pricing!! If you are looking for some comfort food for a great price, with a great atmosphere then you are going to the right place.

    (4)
  • Zach G.

Great Margaritas, okay food. They have some good authentic specialties, but they also have the Mexican American style burritos smothered in cheese. There margs are very strong! Kind of pricy though, but definitely will get the job done (be careful having more than two!)

If you are looking for decent Mexican food, smothered in tasty sauce and lots of cheese (and we all have these cravings occasionally), this is the place to go. Here's the breakdown: 3 stars for the food and the Margaritas (which, on the rocks, is slightly brown from all the tequila and totally worth the $8), and another star for the bitchin habanero salsa--see more on this below. Chips and salsa are good--thin chips (pre-salted) with endless red salsa. The standard salsa has a bit of a kick, but hell, I'm a transplanted Texan, so this was pretty mild by my standards. Now I ordered the cheese enchilada verde with chile relleno, and my wife had the shrimp a la diabla. My food was almost exactly what I expected--greasy, saucy and cheese covered. But the relleno was pretty mild. The shrimp a la diabla was again almost exactly what we expected--lots of shrimp, rich red chipotle-y sauce with onions, and surprisingly good corn tortillas (they have flour too). Again, the complaint was (to our taste buds) the low level of heat. I mean, "a la diabla"? Come on. (Beware of my opinion though, as the natives I've run into here would probably consider it pretty spicy.) This is where the habanero salsa comes in. My wife didn't think her dish was quite up to the standard of "la diabla", and told the waitress so. She quickly offered us a spicy salsa, "the hottest we have." Hell yes. She came back with a little monkey bowl with a orange-brown speckled salsa. Rich habanero flavor, with lots of garlic and who know what else. Frankly, I don't even care what they put in it--I'll come back just for this. And this one was hot. I mean, I'll eat jalepenos straight out of the can, and this was spicy hot. But deeeeeeeeelicious. So, if you've got (metaphorical) balls of steel, or novacaine to cool your tongue, come in, order a margarita and ask if they have some habanero salsa.

Don't judge a book by its cover...and don't judge a restaurant by its exterior!!! Came here with my boyfriend and his sister, I only walked into the restaurant and sat down because she said it was good and had been there. Sooo happy I tried it! Their tamale plate was awesome and the rice was moist and delish. Oh, and they aren't joking about the margaritas, I had a Cadillac and felt its effects only after a few sips...now that's quality! The waiter was also very attentive, which is a huge plus factor in the whole dining experience. I will definitely go back if I'm ever in the Pasadena area again.

Amigos is another of our regular haunts. Cheap, solid Mexican food and awesomely strong margaritas - you should check it out!

Victor, You make the meanest margarita in Pasadena. I will come back ONLY for the margarita. Ok, probably for the guacamole too. =)

This is the best Mexican Restaurant around. I like the carne asadena burrito, chili colorado burrito, tecate with lime n salt, and the chips and salsa. The chips and salsa are top notch. They are really friendly. I like to sit on the bar side. The bartender always remembers me and so does the other staff. You feel at home when you're there.

In February 2004, Popular Science described Amigo's as one of the country's "Top Nerd Bars." I don't think you could tell that from looking around this Mexican cantina. Actually I am always struck by the diversity of the clientele, they get all kinds and not just the crowd from nearby Caltech. However just in case there is a PopSci reporter around doing a follow-up article, I like to keep the place's cred alive by lugging my laptop around the bar. The best things about Amigo's are the chips and the margaritas. Two Amigo's margaritas will knock you on your ass. They're probably not as strong if you order by the pitcher. The food is pretty good too and I especially recommend the chimichangas. Technically they have parking in back but it's always full, so de facto you have to park on the street. But that isn't difficult.

My friends and I use to come here all the time after watching a movie in the dollar theater near by. I love LOVE LOOOVVVVEEE their michilatas beer. You get to pick the beer. I have it with Modelo (the light one). In other restaurants, they make it with lime juice and you add the hot sauce. Amigo's serves it with lime juice and tomato juice. It kinda taste like a Bay of Pigs but lighter and more refreshing. I always order the shrimp ceviche to go with it. Yummy stuff....

  • Alan A.

Mediocre at best.: Being of Mexican decent, this experience was very disappointing. The service was slow and the waiter (looked like he was past retirement age) was very rude. The food was horrible, especially the Carne con Chile Verde (Pork with Green Sauce). The sauce looked like it was made yesterday and reheated today. The rice was hard in texture and had no flavor at all. As for the music, it sounded like it came off a soundtrack from a cheesy stereotypical Mexican movie that was made for Americans only. Lastly, as we walked in, there were no other patrons in the restaurant. Only a few people at the bar. That should've given us a clue about this place. The restroom [at least the Men's] is remenisant of a scene right out of the British movie "Trainspotting" (if you guys seen it, you'll know what I mean...) The only thing that was good was the price and the Margaritas. Needless to say, I will not be going back nor recommending this Mexican restaurant to anyone. Try El Cholo, Mijares or even Dona Rosa before you come here.

My boyfriend and I come to amigos at least once a week! The food is spectacular! The service is great and quick! Their portions are huge!!! They make the best salsa! AHH EVERYTHING IS JUST AMAZING

  • Lionel T.

Went with a friend. Ordered the "Combo" taco & enchilada. I always order this on the first visit so I have a point of comparison. Chips & salsa were good. Good sign. Sangria, while a "bar" version, was also tasty, and big. Another good sign. Then the food arrived. Beans tasted like they were out of the can. Rice had some flavor. Taco was interesting. Chicken enchilada was tasty, so was the ranchera sauce. TF said her chicken & rice was OK. Dining room was half full on a Sat night. Small groups of friends, a family or 2 with kids. The bar was crowded with locals.

I have actually seen very few places that are as shady but as clean as this place. I dearly miss being able to come to this place on a regular basis. The door is always open, something always seems to be going on in the back room, and the staff loves to get you as drunk as possible. The food isn't anything special, especially considering it's in Pasadena, but the ambiance is pleasant. Come here on a Saturday night sometime if you want to get drunk with some friends or some shady people, but you want someplace that is relatively clean. As Gerald S. said, this is a great place to have an affair. It is dark, they have cheap booze, and it is a little out of the way but not so much you can't easily find it. The bar room is one of the few places I have gone to that actually seems like a shady cantina, especially if you go in the middle of the day. *Decent food, good margaritas *Cantina that is Shady, but clean

  • Pearl J.

If I could cut that 1 star in half...I would!!! This is probably the WORST Mexican restaurant I've been to. I ordered the Enchiladas Verde...it was cold and it looked like a 10 year old prepared it. There was no harmony on the plate...the rice was on one side, the enchiladas were in the middle, and the beans were on the other side...they all looked so lonely. I think what was missing was the blended cheese that's usually melted over the dish that brings them all together. The rice tasted like it was prepared out of the box and the beans tasted like it came out of a can, without it being reheated....YUK!!! I guess the service was alright, but there was no one else there for them to serve. I thought the price range was a little steep for the little food that they give you, so save your money...it's not worth the trip.

Wow, went to this place during their happy hour around 6pm. There was literally 4 other people in there dining aside from the servers. I read on here that the margaritas were good so I was interested to try them. First let me say that Chambord has NO place in a margarita which is what they put in their Cadillac Margarita instead of Triple Sec or some sort of Orange Liquor which is what is supposed to be in there, can you say kinda gross. Their basic margarita was definitely better but I wasnt very impressed. Now for the food, how in the hell does this place have 4 stars? Are people stupid or something? I mean the food is edible i'm not saying it was horrible but it wasnt that good. Its just your run of the mill mexican food with a crapload of cheese trying to mask any flavor that might be had. If you want good mexican food do yourself a favor and try out La Cabanita in Montrose, Ca. Much better flavors and not as generic. Plus their salsa here sort of blows.

Bland. The food needed lots of seasoning. I ordered a chimichanga and the cheese didn't really taste like anything. The beans seemed like they came out of a can. The portions were big but it really didn't matter because I disliked the food... I got myself to eat half of my dinner. My friend ordered enchiladas and she agreed that the food needed more flavor to be decent. My boyfriend had a burrito and said that it was really good but I cant take him seriously because he already had a few rounds of drinks prior to coming to Amigo's. Oh I was really looking forward to some good margaritas but the margarita that I got was weak and watered down. The server was very attentive to the point where it was borderline annoying. He asked us if we were doing ok like every 3 minutes. For the quality of food here and the flavorless margarita, it would have been more worth it to go to El Torito and spend extra.

Amigo's Restaurant is a quiet little Mexican place at the corner of Colorado and Wilson in Pasadena. It has friendly service, and the food is excellent and affordable. It does have a "hole-in-the-wall" feel to it, but the place is actually very clean and the food is of high quality (not to mention the fact that the portions are huge!) Many other reviewers have mentioned the margaritas here, and I would be remiss if I did not do the same. Margaritas are served in giant glasses and are really potent...you can taste the alcohol before you even take your first drink. Every meal, of course, comes with chips and salsa. The salsa is good, but I would recommend supplementing it with an order of their freshly-made guacamole. I have eaten several things off this menu and have never been disappointed. My favorite would have to be their carne asada burrito, though. It is definitely something you must try.

lets cut to the chase: the food sucks, but the margaritas are strong as hell! ive had the nachos, the chimichangas & the albondigas soup & everything was just ok. & i hate "just ok" mexican food! i'd rather heat up a can of beans from the 99 cents store w/some boiling tecate & scoop them up w/rotten flour tortillas than pay for bland bad mex food. well thats what the "amigos" kitchen will serve ya! however............. the bar......... well thats another story! i used to come here a couple of times a week when i used to work in pasadena.. & thank god im still alive .... or not in prision. these margaritas can kill you or give you ten DUIs if youre driving

A tribute to ELENO! Before Amigos this was an Italian restaurant. When Amigos opened I remember a petite hispanic gentleman use to stand out front of the door. I lived one block away so I passed the spot every day and said hello to this very unique man. I was always fascinated by his mustache. Finally one day I decided to go in and get something to eat. The food was okay and the atmosphere was also okay. I would stop by every so often to pick up dinner and that was about it. It wasn't until 2008 did I become some what of a regular. The reason I'm writing this review is not because of the food but a very special bartender named Leno (I Americanized his name so I apologize if this offends.). Everyone seemed to love this very special man and I know I was fascinated by him even though I barely spoke 3 or 4 sentences to him each time I saw him. This gentleman was truly a caring person. He helped, listened, and laughed with so many. He gave his heart and soul to his customers. I left Cali for a year and when I came back I was sad to find out that my very special bartender passed away at a very young 50 something. Here I sit with my Margarita in hand and a toast to my very special bartender that I've known for at least 15 years...although I really didn't know him. Good bye Leno...you have. Been truly missed. By the way I've had two cadillac margaritas so I apologize for my spelling. ;-)

Nasty food. I will never eat here again. The meat is very low quality. Ew!

"Shady, but clean." -Zack H. Ditto on the deliciously strong margaritas--you won't realize that you had to spend over $20 on the pitcher because you won't be coherent by that point. Try the cadillac.

I FREAKING LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! The best Mexican restaurant I've found!! Pretty hidden, although it's on Colorado Blvd., but great in the inside! I'm surprised by all of the bad reviews I read on the page, maybe it's changed by now? My experience there was not less than outstanding! The service is great, and our waiter (we've seen him twice over the last weekend) is fabulous! The food is greaat!! On Friday my boyfriend and I split a plate of their wonderful nachos-- couldn't finish them all! Nearly crawled out of there after a margarita each. Today I had their garlic shrimp- they were pretty good, too! I couldn't finish them all, so now I'm munching on the leftovers while I'm drafting up this review. My boyfriend had their fajita-- and again, it tastes great, and there was a lot (*note in mind- to finish his food, also). My parents loved the place too!! We shared the little jewel with them this afternoon =D. Margaritas-- Lord smite me if I ever get a margarita from another place!!! WHOA!!!! I thought my tastebuds were lying to me for a second...but no, they were determined enough to prove to me the SECOND time that their margaritas are heavenly. First time I had their peach margarita (ahh!!!), and today it was guava. My boyfriend had strawberry last time, and raspberry today-- I think I'll have to taste them again to pick a favorite ;) Anyway-- we can't wait to see our waiter Tony again, he was great!! And we'll definitely have another margarita run at Amigos before the week is over. Enjoyyyyy...!!!

You don't go to Mexican restaurants for the food because we all know the mom n pops do it so much better. You go to Mexican restaurants for the service, the music, and to get shit-faced. The service at Amigos is always great. The servers are attentive and nice, always taking notice of empty drinks and plates and offering more of anything without pitching sales. Now, while eating at "Mexican" restaurants, I prefer listening to music from Mexico. I'd love to take shots to some chente while eating tacos and talking to friends. You won't get that here. Don't get me wrong, their jukebox in the bar area is great and the songs filter into the restaurant. I remember faintly hearing some Beatles and some Stones last night, kudos, but I get that at just about every divey bar I visit. I was already shit-faced upon arriving, but a couple of their 12 or 13 dollar pitcher of margaritas woulda spruced me right up. Of course, when a restaurant offers cheap pitchers of margaritas they either load it with ice or use cheap tequila. Here, the tequila was sponged off the ground around the bartender and squeezed into a vat of year-old limes and the cheapest orange liqueur they could find. Their regular margaritas are great, though. Not too strong, no overpowering flavors. I find the best way to gauge a Mexican restaurant's food is by their refried beans. I've noticed that the longer beans soak, the deeper, fuller, and richer the flavor. The beans here were bland and more pale than my legs. They tasted as though they were cooked and fried in a span of an hour. Nasty. Three stars for the service. No stars for the food.

Well this is probably one of the best places to get Mexican food in the area. I have only been a few times, but it is pretty decent food and I find myself leaving happy. I have yet to try their margaritas, but I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever go for happy hour. This is a great place for lunch if you work near by because they are very quick about seating you and bringing your food. I can't say it is the best Mexican food I have had, but definitely satisfactory.

Curb appeal is not great, but once you get inside it is a homey sit down restaurant with booths and tables. The lighting is dim, and the decor is outdated, but all seems clean. We sat at a booth with the bar behind the wall. The noise level from the bar wasn't too much. We were greeted very quickly by a friendly server, and our drinks arrived fast - we didn't have any alcohol, but the Diet Coke, and Ice tea were fresh. The menu offers a variety of foods and I think good pricing for Burritos and special plates. My wife ordered the Tostada Salad and I went with the Carnitas Plate. Her salad had too much Pico de Gallo or Salsa, swimming in it. She didn't finish most of it, though it was fresh and did not taste bad. The Carnitas were excellent! Tender, light, and tasty, and cooked to perfection. I finished it. The server noticed that she didn't eat much of the Tostada Salad and he removed it from the bill without any questions asked - what service and attention to detail. We will be back, and I am thinking of trying the bar next time for margaritas. Very nice place.

Yuck. Dirty and questionable activity in the bathrooms which were filthy! Food was gross. The margaritas were ok; we had to drink them to get through the experience. And it always seems really sketchy around the place. Yuck. Yuck.

I pretty much go here for the margaritas. The food is merely a second thought. You can order pitchers of margaritas, but be careful because they are sooooo strong. It's not too long before you are craving something greasy, alas the food. The tacos are decent, burritos are huge, chips and salsa are fresh. I had the carne asada once and the steak was overcooked. Rice is pretty bland, but beans are good. But like I said, the margaritas rock, and sometimes when you're drunk you'll eat (almost) anything.

Amigo's has a typical Mexican menu. They offer a #1 combination that's delicious. LIke most #1 combinations at other restaurants, it's the local favorite. The #4, however, is my personal favorite. The #5 is also good but I found the sauce to me a little weak. I haven't ventured beyond that. If you don't like combinations, they do have a la carte. Since this is a lunch place for me I haven't yet had the opportunity to get completely plowed, but I hoping some depressing day will present itself offering the perfect chance. I did like the chips n' salsa and the service was great.

GREAT customer service!!! I went here on a Monday night to try out their famous margaritas and was pleasantly surprised by the taco Smörgåsbord Surprise I received!! The margaritas were good but too sweet but the tacos...oh, the tacos!! I was not sure what I wanted to try on the menu being that it was so large, so my boyfriend said "wouldn't it be cool if they made a taco platter like they do in Mexico"? Apparently, in Mexico, they give you a choice of meats, fixings, and you make your own tacos to your liking. After talking to the waiter about this, he said, "We can make this for you, if you like. We are slow so why not??" I was amazed they would just make whatever we wanted! We ordered shredded chicken, asada, and carnitas and what ensued was a FEAST!! They brought out a meat platter, 3 salsas (ranchero was the best!), pico de gallo, guacamole, tortillas, chopped cilantro/onion/avocado extra chips and salsa AND a side of beans and rice!!! It was all really good (AND CHEAP for all the food we got) with the exception of the chicken (it was weird and mushy) but the asada was juicy and flavorful! I will definitely be back here and requesting the off the menu "Taco Platter". GREAT JOB AMIGOS!

Love, love, love, loved the margaritas! So yummy! One of my biggest pet peeves are when margaritas are to sweet and sour but these were perfect! I ordered the mango, my friends ordered the peach and the midori. For food, I ordered the bean and cheese burrito, it came with rice on the side and a red sauce on top....it was yummylicious, I ate the whole huge thing. We also ordered the guacamole...it was okay, very creamy, I usually like it chunky...but my friends like it. They also give free chips and salsa. They have a separate bar if you just want to have a drink. My only bad comment would have to be the service...our waitress was extremely slow...it wasn't too bad because we had good conversation and margaritas, but still it was super slow, but the other waiters we noticed seemed pretty quick. Another weird thing was that it was eerily quiet in there...when we first walked in everybody in the restaurant stopped and looked at us and I thought it was weird...but I later figured out that it was because there was no background music...in a way it's kind of cool because everybody seems kind of connected in the restaurant, we can actually hear each other and hear the others in the restaurant...but it was just wierd...not used to it.

A friend and I walked in on a Sunday evening and to our surprise this place was pretty much empty. Not complaining, if anything that's a good thing. Our waitress quickly sat us down & gave us a food menu. She came right back with complimentary chips and salsa. Now for the best part, I ordered the Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo (Shrimp with garlic) and a Strawberry Margarita (blended). Our food took just the right amount of time, plate arrived nice and hot and with a side of rice, beans, slices of avocados, and some corn tortillas. I am a very picky eater when it comes to Mexican food, I can honestly say that their beans and rice were actually pretty good and my shrimp was cooked to perfection. The portions are more than generous, and for my lightweight drinking self one margarita had me a little buzzed.

Love Amigos!! This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in Pasadena-- actually this is kind of just our go-to restaurant whenever we don't feel like cooking. If you're looking for a fancy restaurant this isn't the place. It's definitely more for those who want great food for a great price in a cozy atmosphere. My boyfriend and I love sitting in the bar (by now the servers recognizes us) and getting margaritas. If nothing else you have to go here just to get a margarita because it is amazing-- it tastes great (and I'm not a big fan of tequila) but more important than that it leaves you feeling great after just one! For food, I always get the chicken tacos and my bf gets the super burrito with chicken breast (yes they actually let you request white meat here!!)

Amigos was a lot nicer than I expected. I thought it would be a run down hole in the wall Mexican joint, but they have very nice restaurant area. The restrooms on the other hand is a whole other story! They have a urinal right next to the sink and the entire ceiling was shaking because the AC was on. They need to do some major work with the restrooms. SERVICE: Pretty much non-existent once we got our food. We had to get up and find a waiter to just pay for the bill! Never had to do that in a restaurant before. FOOD: My friend and I split the steak fajitas. It was good, but it really tastes a lot like Asian stir fry. The only difference was that they served it with tortillas rather than rice. Will I come here again? Probably if I am really desperate for some overpriced Mexican food!

Dinner was very busy in this amigos restaurant! Food smelled delicious but the food was not as wowing as the smells. We started off with a round of chips. Warm and crispy. The salsa was as expected. The horchata was rather diluted but would have had a reasonably good taste if it wasn't. The carnitas were delicious! Loved the flavor but thought it was a little dry. The avocados were great to add to the tacos. Beans are good. Corn tortillas were ok. Definitely satisfied my Mexican craving that night but wasn't as representative of LA Mexican food culture as I had expected. The magaritas seem popular with the customers but I was too tired to try one. Maybe next time!!

The thing about this restaurant is that the food is really good, but the service is terrible. It wasn't even busy at the time when I decided to go eat. The waitress didn't even come to refill our drinks until the food came out. We had also finished our salsa for the chips and wanted more, but they were no where in sight to get more. I had order the shrimp cocktail which is my favorite thing to order here. The cooks do their job, but the waitresses should do theirs as well

Literally the best place to get Mexican food outside of Mexico. Probably better than many places in Mexico. Great staff, amazing food, and the Cadillac Margaritas are the highlight of your life. Go there, be happy, go again.

  • Lucerito R.

This is a hole in the wall Mexican restaurant with awesome Cadillac Margaritas. *Eats* They normally only bring out red salsa with their chips, so be sure to ask for some of their green salsa too. It's got a bit of a kick to it, but it's oh so good! I ordered their fish and shrimp tacos, but preferred the savory shrimp to the fish. I've heard good things about their chile relleno, so I'm looking forward to trying that on my next visit :)

Our usual go to are the shrimp cocktail, margaritas, ceviche, margaritas, chicken mole, and margaritas. We love playing music in their jukebox and people watching at the bar. Olé

This is my local dive bar that serves Mexican food. It has a really good big Cadillac margarita! Arturo is a very capable friendly bartender willing to help you melt away your cares. The comfortable relaxed atmosphere and the happy hour pricing is a good way to forget about a troubled day at work.

All I have to say about this place and it's staff is they are thieves! I was a bit of a regular coming here for lunch and drinks with my girlfriends and had even introduced this place to my co-workers. I'm an honest person so this is why this upsets me and that it's my race of people who act this way disgusts me! I left my designer glasses in the case yesterday at lunch in a booth in the bar, went back in less than 10 minutes and they said they didn't have them! So "F" this place! Really they'd rather steal from a good tipping frequent customer! Last time for me, so if you do decide to try this mediocre food be careful and watch your stuff!

This is a great spot, sadly it took me almost a year to discover it. I always always too scared to venture into a place that didn't have windows and had neon signs that said "amigos" from the outside. It wasn't until a bartender at my fave place seco recommended it that I ventured in and am glad I did. Margaritas were amazing as promised and the service was great, I would expect to find this kind of place in Guadalajara Mexico - a shame I didn't discover it sooner - juke box was a plus

MM Delicious mexican food in pasadena, very "American-Mex" I came here becuase they had blended margaritas! My peach marg was pretty delicious! Parking: Street parking, but because this is toward east pas, there a lot fo ample street parking. 2hr parking from 9-6pm. Food: I had the huevos rancheros, it was extremely delcious with a crispy tortila shell on the bottom! We also had a Carne Asada Buritto, my boyfriend asked for less bean and cheese in the buritto, but sadly they didn't seem to listen to those instructions. We also got a variety of "hot" salsas, try them if you want some heat. Overall the food came extremely fast, we came on a Monday night and it wasn't crowded at all. I would come here again.

Best all around Mexican restaurant in Pasadena! Authentic, home made, really good food. We got there just before the dinner rush on Friday, and were seated right away. We ordered the Fiesta platter - perfect for 2! It was fresh, and clean, not greasy at all, like so many other places. The salsa that came with the chip was excellent - fresh and delicious. If you're in the area, check it out!

The service is great and the atmosphere is super friendly, especially if a game is on. My husband and I dropped by for a drink and a snack the other day and had a pretty good time. I had the Cadillac Margarita, and boy was that strong! The waitress was laughing at me since I kept mentioning how strong it was. They don't have any beers on tap, but that's not a huge downer (at least not to me). We split a small Fiesta Platter, which was more than enough food for the two of us. I really liked that Flautas that came with it (it also comes with Quesidilla, Taquitos, and Nachos). Pretty cool local spot.

I love Amigo's! It's not a healthy place to eat by any means, but damn if the food isn't tasty. I usually get the chimichanga and share a margarita pitcher with whoever I'm there with. It's a great place for groups, and the staff there is really friendly.

This is a cozy neighborhood bar. While sitting here I'm herring about checks that are not itemized and too large. Mine however was correct. My margarita on happy hour was $6 and very tasty. I ordered the carnitas burrito and it lacked flavor, but it wasn't horrible. About equivalent to Taco Bell I suppose. Not horrible, not authentic. Bland refried beans and semi decent Carne. Maybe keep your options simple. Chips and salsa or guacamole.

The food is usually good n the service is like meh, we had to sit at the bar, they had the other side closed for some reason so we had to hear the drunks while eating n they were in our way all the time, loud drunks, I usually like the food but tonight the food was bad, service bad n drunks all over.

My girl wanted to get out late Tuesday night so we tried this place out cause it was open late. Like the previous reviews, yes the cadillac margaritas are the strongest mixed drink i've ever tasted. Couldn't believe my babe was able to handle 2 of those drinks. We tried the steak & chicken fajitas 4, Green chili burrito 3 & Camarones a la diabla 5. Pretty good. we will be back

This review is only for their margaritas... I haven't had a chance to eat here yet, because its always so crowded, but I did however get a chance to sit at the bar. Ordered their Cadillac margarita, and it was so good, and strong! Before I knew it, I was buzzed!! Chips and salsa were also delicious....will definitely be back!!

I would say this is definitely a spot for locals. If you don't plan on spending an entire afternoon here it is probably not what you're looking for because after one or two margaritas you will want to stay! These margaritas are dangerously strong but really tasty :) also there are no windows going to the outside so you never know what time it is. The staff is very nice, I have seen people get things they didn't order confused but they still seemed pleased with the outcome. I would say my favorite is their quesadillas. Great price for the amount of food you get. The crowd is definitely unique (lol). Music comes from a juke box that is pretty entertaining. Overall good food, heavy pours, and a fun time!

Went to Amigos on a date for some Margaritas! I wish he would have warned me how dangerous and delicious they were going to be, after the second margarita everything was a blur. The Albondigas soup was delicious. I will definitely be back with my girlfriends and a designated driver.

I've been coming here since the day I was born! hahah! the owners have no idea how to run a restaurant., they own the liquor store next door, so the son, who is the owner, is not steady. He comes to the restaurant and then next door to the liquor store. Back and forth, in and out like he has no confidence in his employees. With all the money and income they are making, I wonder why they do not do a remodel. It is long over due! Aside from all the negative crap, lets turn the rest of the review into positive things I have to say... The wait staff is always on top of their game...love the service! The food...oh my gosh!!! words can not describe!! the carne asada tacos...WOW! The classic margarita...WOW!...one of those and you're feeling it! On a neutral note...I wish there was more parking available. When I come to dine here...I have to block cars to be able to park! No worries though most of the people are regulars who park in the parking and don't leave until the night is over. I am aware of this parking issue because I've been coming here for 13 years and they give me and others permission to park all crazy! I love amigos restaurant, tried other places and no one tops mexican food like they do!

I was going to try this place out however after hearing what happened to the customer below Manuela we definitely will not be trying this spot. Occasionally our daughter leaves her I pad or Kendal behind and if it got stolen by the staff you can better guarantee the police would be called! The staff should be more vigilant at the location and look out for their customers belongings. That sucked! Oh well now they not only lost a loyal customer but a new one!

Love this Place the service is right on point! The food comes out Quick, Hot and delicious, The Cadillac Margaritas are a One Hitter Quitter. "PARKING" Well you can't have everything!! Lol! So it's probably a good thing that's its scarce I need to walk a block or two after eating so much. But it's worth it!

This place is a pasadena gem for regulars and margarita lovers alike! Pros: the side cantina with chips, chatter, and amazing margaritas! It's the place where you can stroll in at noon and nobody will judge you. Bring your friends and you're likely to make friends with everyone by the end of the night. Cons: the food isn't wonderful but it's about the same you would find at any drive thru Mexican spot. However the atmosphere and drinks totally makes it worthwhile. Fun spot that you should try once....maybe twice :)

I only come here if I'm craving chicken fajitas - in this case, Amigo's has the best. (the steak fajitas tend to overcook). The complimentary chips and salsa is another plus. The salsa is really addicting. I really don't like the ambiance of the restaurant, it's ALWAYS dark. The last two times I dined at Amigo's, we were seated in the booth right in front of the bathroom, it was horrible! There also seems to be no air ventilation because the restaurant is smoky (from the food), you can even see the thickness of the smoke in the air. The vibe is also very different here, in a weird kinda way - definitely different/all types of crowds. The parking is TERRIBLE!!! omg, i've never been so irritated by the parking situation as it is at Amigo's. Most people just parallel park their car in the alley, which is super ghetto and I don't recommend that. The lot is small, your best bet is to find street parking, really... unless you want someone to ding your car.

We came here on cinco de mayo. We had work late and all Mexican restaurants were closed by 10. We really wanted some margaritas and food. I happened to find this place on yelp and figured why not! The margs were well priced ($10) and very very strong. I had 2 and that was probably too many. They also serve food until 12! It's not in old town which was nice to have it away from a the craziness. We just wanted to eat and drink and not run into anyone we knew. I would go here again!

This place has nasty food. The meat was mushy as well as the tortilla. Waiters take forever to check on customers and it took them forever to get me a beer. If u wanna have a nice Mexican meal with your girlfriend, find some other place.

I came back to Amigo's because my first experience was good, but the 2nd time wasn't quite a charm. 1. Our chips had a strand of brown hair, which made me regret eating the Mexican pizza. 2. After drinking only one and a half Cadillac margaritas, I ended up praying to the porcelain god that same night. In conclusion, I'll have to say I am scarred enough to never come back again.

I really wanted to like this place, at least a little bit. I honestly felt awful after suggesting we go here this past Saturday. While the Mexican restaurants are limited in Pasadena I thought I'd give Amigo's a go but now I know I will never return. From the moment we approached (after parking a couple blocks down the street) there was a shopping cart parked at their front door. I understand they may not always be aware of what's going on out-front but the homeless woman was inside and had it parked right out front. I don't have a cold heart and am usually the first to offer food to those in need since it's something I'm clearly very passionate about but it really isn't a pleasant experience to walk into an establishment past a homeless persons shopping cart, it just isn't! As soon as we walked through the door, this restaurant screamed they need help, serious help! It was dark (and not in a good dark, Mexican restaurant way) just dark, dull, lifeless, nearly silent, no music, and downright stuffy and extremely humid. It really is a wonder I even agreed to stay and didn't have us exit the building immediately. It was National Margarita Day and we had come for margies and lunch. I ordered a Cadillac on the rocks, minus the salt and STRONG it was - but not a good strong, a cheap - bad quality, tequila over ice strong, which I can't do (but did). Their guacamole is the saddest guac I've ever experienced in life. I'm sure with my non existent culinary skills I could find a way for a small plain avocado to taste better than whatever it was they served us for $6.95. I ordered the 2 enchilada combo plate (one cheese, one chicken, with rice and beans). The food was very mediocre but I still finished my plate. I didn't care for their chips or salsa. The chips did not taste fresh at all, they resembled something store bought that you'd left sitting in your pantry for a year after their expiration date. All in all this place was terrible and way over priced for the quality of ingredients and atmosphere (or lack of) served here. I'd stay away! but like they say "different strokes for different folks" in my book - this is bottom of the barrel and I will not be returning.

The restaurant may not seem anything from the outside but once inside it's clean and welcoming. Cadillac Margaritas to die for!! I am a fan! We came as a group (10 people) and were attended to immediately. One of us in the group wanted other vegetables not featured on the menu and her request to replace side dishes which came with her order was granted at no extra cost. How's that for good service?!! Wow!!

  • Rebecca L.

No frills, just good food. Worst experience today ever! I usually order tostada with whatever meat suits me that day. Today was carne asada. When served, I saw MINISCULE pieces of carne asada, why bother, I think. I inquired with waitress and either chef or manager came to talk to me. "Portion has not changed" she says. Really??? I've been coming for at least 8 years!! I showed her my plate with barely any meat - she said they will charge me for extra or have what they served. I said more meat - so if you have to charge me, then I will never come back.... They charged me. So never coming back, it is... Don't recognize anybody anymore. I think they changed owners....

Four stars for their potent margaritas and their tasty guac! That's pretty much the extent of what my coworker and I came for and conquered. We were hesitant to come in the first place due to the shady look of the place, and we definitely had a plan B in mind if we had to abort mission. We envisioned walking into this windowless bar, so dark that we had to pause for several minutes before the seediness really started to emerge from the shadows. What we experienced could not have been further from that, however! We entered a well lit atrium with vibrant wall murals and a number of outdated booths, and the hustle and bustle of those partaking in early dinners all around us. We were well taken care of by our waiter and our drinks. We shall return!

Best margaritas in town! It might not be a very fancy place, but after two margaritas you won't care! Their chile verde is very good and so are their steak tacos. I've been here plenty of times and I'm surprised at some of the reviews. I've had nothing but great service every time. This is definitely not a place for a first date. More like a place to relax with your friends when you need to unwind.

Place is pretty good. I always get the ground beef super Burrito. The margaritas are bomb and the chicken quesadillas are good. My friends normally get the nachos and they're pretty good.

Well I hate to say amigos has fallen I don't know what happen. I still like the drinks. But the service and food not the same they took things off the menu and we always seat next to the food area and they are not clean they grab the chips with their hands and the chips are stale yikes. What happen amigos? I do not recommend this place anymore unless you just want drinks. We have found other places my man and i.

Best place around for delicious and strong margaritas that will knock you on you @$$, even the pitchers believe it or not! The food is pretty tasty too! It doesn't need a decor update as much as it's kind of dark and dank. It needs to be brightened up a bit but I don't go to look at that, I go for the margaritas! Who are we kiddin' here, right?! If you haven't been, go, you won't be let down. I've gone here at least a half dozen times and food/drink wise have always been satisfied. Cheers!

I some how ended up here, SUPER hungry, on a Sunday night. It was completely empty, and even with less than 4 other people dining here, the service was terrible. I had to get up several times to get help from our server. Thankfully eating at Amigo's was still a decent overall experience because I liked the food. I would classify what I ate at Amigo's as above average Mexican food. The best part about my meal was the portion size I ordered the macho chimichanga, which was a name that accurately described what I was served. It was humongous and indeed macho looking. It was the biggest chimichanga I can remember ever having, and had shredded beef, rice, and cheese inside. Additionally it came with sides of rice and beans too. It was very satisfying and way more than I could eat, even though I was famished. I liked everything I ate at Amigo's including the chips and salsa that was served before we ordered. Amigo's is not a place I would go out of my way to have, but if I'm in the area I would definitely eat here again. I liked the food, but the service could use improvement. 4 stars for the food & 2 stars for the service = a 3 star experience.

Decent food and drinks. I'm only giving one star because the last time we were at the bar, I found a bug in my drink. I mentioned it to the bartender and he began to argue with me saying I must of put the bug in my own drink (?!)..... Seriously! Never apologized and didn't offer to make me a fresh drink. Sad to say, last time there.

So many mixed feelings about my experience here. The main issue being I had one of the most fantastic margaritas of my life, along with some sub par Mexican food. I'm a huge fan of Mexican food and as a result can be a hard critic. We ordered the steak fajitas, a quesadilla with peppers and onions, and a beef enchilada. all of which were decently good, but nothing to go out of your way to have. But back to the margarita - it was fantastic, tasty yet surprisingly strong in a generous goblet for a great price. I was feeling it less than half way through. If I could drink one of those puppies every day after work I would be a happy woman. Moral of the story: Amigo's gets you drunk and will serve you decent food

My brother and I both got food poisoning from this place.... And a year apart... He always thought they had great margaritas... Be careful eating here... We haven't been back.

Amigo's is no friend of mine: There's nothing special about this place, it is packed because of the cheap booze and generic cheese enchiladas. People come here to drink and it attracts a interesting crowd. This windowless restaurant is no place for a well cooked meal, but with enough margaritas everything tastes good.

Love being in a different city and using Yelp to find a good restaurant. Amigo's doesn't look like much from the outside- actually, it looks a little scary...but trust me on this one and give it a try. I had a mango margarita and it was delicious- not too sweet which I was worried about. And big :) Chips and salsa are brought immediately to your table- and both were tasty. For my entree I ordered the fajitas- the portions were HUGE and the prices were reasonable. The fajitas came out within 5 or 10 min- super quick- and sizzling hot. I appreciated that they didn't charge extra for guacamole or cheese on the side. Love me some queso blanco. I inhaled the fajitas, as well as the rice and beans on the side. So good. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone in the area looking for a casual mexican dining experience.

I have been a server for 7 years, and my husband is a chef and has been in kitchens for 16 years. We aren't pretentious about food, and we understand how food and bev works. "Hole in the wall"- esque places are our favorites, and we have enjoyed Amigo's on other occasions. They DO have excellent, strong drinks. However, I feel that after our experience we had a couple of nights ago warrants a review so that others know what to watch out for. Also, I hope that the managerial staff will see this as well, as no one seemed to be interested in listening to us the night that we were in. To lay it on the table, I got food poisoning from our last visit to Amigo's on Tuesday night. Like, REAL food poisoning... not *oooh* my stomach hurts a little. I should have read the signs that they were having an "off" night, but it was late-night and we were tired and hungry. We sat at the banquette/booth nearest the kitchen, so we had a decent view of the kitchen (which is perfectly fine for us). First off, the employees (not just one) were using their hands to scoop ice out of the machine for drinks. Besides the fact that it's against health code, it's kinda gross. I don't know where your hand have been. And the fact that the ice machine is in plain view of most of the dining room made it all the more unpleasant. Secondly, there were TWO instances where we witnessed two separate servers filling the chip warmer. Both times, some chips fell to the floor and both severs picked up chips off the floor with their bare hands. They DID throw them away, but neither of them washed their hands. One of the servers immediately picked up food from the window and ran it to a table... with no towel. The other went and picked up margaritas for a table of young guys, and delivered them holding around the rim of the glass wrist-down (not like a wine glass that you hold around the sides). So not only are you potentially touching the food AND drinks with unwashed-floor-chip hands, but you're also grabbing ice out of the machine with those hands, further contaminating the drinks and the rest of the ice! Guys, as I said I work in Food and Bev. It's my paycheck, it's my lifestyle, it's my husbands passion. I like fois gras, tartines, and foams but comfort food is still my all-time favorite. The quality of the food is usually better. The hygiene is usually better. The service is usually better. It really was a bad experience all around, and the fact that I got so horrifically ill has made it's mark. Unfortunately, I probably won't be returning here, again. Sorry, Amigo's.

My fiance woke up from a very late nap and Amigo's is one of the few mexican restaurants that we found still open. Having never been here, we didn't know what to expect. I thought it was more of a bar environment based on pictures of the restaurant. We entered and it was a sit-down family restaurant. My fiance and I were wondering "where is the bar?" Turns out, you have to walk to another room for the bar. It's a totally different scene behind the wall. Our server was nice. We were greeted with unlimited chips and salsa. He gave us his recommendation on what we can order. I decided to order the mixed shrimp, beef, and chicken fajitas. I loved that I could combine all the meats instead of having to pick one. Very flavorful. I would definitely order it again. FYI, A bit salty as a leftover. My fiance enjoyed his fish tacos. There was a huge group celebrating a birthday so we lost our server for a lot of our dinner but it was ok. We had to hunt him down for our check and box for our leftovers.

This place was a disappointment! Came here because I heard the food & margaritas are "Soo good" for starters my family (Hubby & 3 kids) were sat in a back booth that was right next to the loudest party ever!! It was extremely hot back there; We didn't get menus, had to ask for them after sitting there for 5min; Our drinks came but no food order was taken; waited 20min before a server came to take our order! The margaritas are strong but not in a good way.I couldn't even finish it, it wasn't enjoyable. The house guac is mediocre & doesn't come with chips. We finally get our food & the server forgets the tortillas which than takes him another 10min to come back with (yeah cold food now) Oh yeah and did I mention my entire family woke in the mid of the night with food poisoning!! Thanks "Amigos" for the worst dining experience ever!!

I'm not a fan of the food (not even the chips they put out on the table) however, the blended margaritas are the best ! My favorite has to be the Raspberry one. A long while back, they also used to have a guava margarita which is now discontinued but that one was good too. I say just go for the drinks.

This review is for the margaritas only (and the free chips and salsa kinda) Most importantly, the margaritas are strong and delicious...very strong! I've had just about every margarita they have...the cadillac, the house, strawberry, mango, etc. The house is more than enough and there is no reason to order the cadillac. What do I mean by more than enough? I had two house margaritas one night and walked out and laid down on the sidewalk. Like I said, the margaritas are strong and delicious. Check this place out.

Ok this place is all about the Cadillac Margaritas. They are pre-mixed.. However they must use at least 3 tequilas. They sneak up on you. I'm pretty good size and 2 will leave me very buzzed. 3 and you will need a ride. They are delicious. The food that's on the menu I would rate as a 4 stars. But if you know how to put ur food together, you can request them to make you things that are not on the menu which makes this place really great. Try the quesadilla with carnitas topped with sour cream and guacamole. 2 grilled jalapeños on the side and wow.. Amazing appetizers. For breakfast/lunch I order the huevos rancheros( verdes) not on the menu but fantastic. Their chicken mole on the menu is an excellent choice for dinner. Ask for the hotter salsa to go with the chips and u'll see what real salsa is all about ;)

I used to come here all the time to meet friends in the neighborhood. The food is overpriced and not that good, but I liked coming here for the convenience. I will NOT be returning! Last night the bartender was so unbelievably rude, I couldn't believe it. I was having a conversation with a friend after having one margarita, and the bartender told us to leave. I asked him if he was closing....no....he just wanted us to leave and gave us NO reason. I had not been there in many months, and I noticed that it was sparse. No wonder! Who needs this treatment? I am taking my friends and our business elsewhere.

My favorite spot for mexican food and a margarita after a long day at work! I always sit at the bar where the chips and salsa keep coming and Victor pours me a mean Cadillac Margarita. Let me tell you, you will be feeling so much better after one of these puppies. I love their mexican pizza or an old-fashioned standard- the chicken enchilada and chicken taco combination meal. Great people and great food!

Great and warm service. Parking in the rear of the restaurant is a plus since you have to pay for street parking. There's a bar in the back of the place where we watched a game during lunch. A few regulars came in and out to enjoy beers/margaritas. They loudly discussed cop-related cases and so are probably in law enforcement. Nice to know we were safe at the local watering hole. Also nice to know that they have a local cliental. The chips and salsa were fantastic! I think the best part of the meal actually. Otherwise, food is priced moderately for regular Mexican fare - with a lot of combination options for those who want a little bit of everything. The carne asada tacos were good (nothing inside but meat), but nothing to write home about. It came with a side of beans, rice, salsa and guacamole. I definitely could not finish the entire plate. Additionally, my friend's enchilada was yummy. As other yelpers have said - the margaritas are strong and definitely worth getting, especially if you're having a lazy Saturday afternoon!

I've come 2 times during their happy hour, and each time, after I've had one of their margaritas, I walk out completely buzzed! Free chips and salsa. I had the steak quesadilla. Meaty and yummy! My favorite local Mexican restaurant.

The margaritas are tops! The best I have found in Pasadena. Big menu and everything on it is good. Good prices too. Relaxed environment. Great for families or singles. Really has it all!! Kind of hidden with scarce parking, but just keep your eyes peeled and you'll find it. I am eating a tamale right now and it's amazing.

Ok I say 4 Stars on the House Margaritas because they kick your ass.. I always leave there jacked up. I would say 3 stars on the food it's not bad.

Atmosphere: Restaurant and Bar area. Bar area definitely has a 'dive-e' feel to it, which those who've given the place a shot come to appreciate as it scares off impostors and keeps this local gem somewhat under the radar. Restaurant area, I'll let you know how it is when I actually sit over on that side. Beverages: Can't go wrong with their margaritas. Food: The food is among the best (traditional) Mexican food Pasadena has to offer. Picks: Margarita + Super Burrito(with steak meat instead)

Margaritas get 5 stars every time! Been coming here for a few years just for that great margaritas...food has always been edible but who cares when the margaritas are great. Unfortunately had a run in with a cockroach last night and will not be returning. It is hard to enjoy even the best margarita with table critters to share it with.

After frequenting Amigo's for 20 years, I was appalled by my experience tonight! The amazing, awesomely mustached original owner who shook every single patron's hand every night must be rolling over in his grave right now! Looking for a low key bar with a jukebox (that hasn't been updated in decades btw!), we decided to go to Amigo's, a favorite watering hole. It was packed and louder than usual when I walked in, but cool, it's Saturday night. If you know the spot, you know it hasn't been updated, probably EVER, but that's part of its charm. There's about 8 booths in the bar and the bar has about 15 bar stools. For the most part, every booth and most bar stools were full. Great to see business was doing well... I sat at the bar in between two friends and expected to have a great night. but not so much.... Parties of 4-6 in the booths were so drunk that instead of having conversations like normal people do, they we yelling at each other even though they were sitting right next to each other! to the point where the three of us who were also sitting right next to each other couldn't even hear what the other was saying. Okay, what evs, its Saturday night, right? Around 10:30 or so, I excused myself to use the restroom and couldn't believe the disgusting conditions I witnessed! On its best day women's restroom is not great there, but still, look at the two pics I posted! Really?! Out of the two toilets in the women's restroom, one of them had a toilet seat broken off and laying there on the floor right next to it. And did you did you check out pic of the the trash can and the sink?! That is sooooo freaking gross!! After HOURS of this noise madness, the people who worked there knew it was absolutely unreasonably for anyone who wasn't blowing a .20 blood alcohol level still did not do a thing about it! Three hours we put up with this, PAYING FULL PRICE for every drink we ordered, even AFTER complaining to the bartender all night and owner, herself! And by the way, drinks there are not cheap! They're competitive with places that have sooooo much more higher standards!! Unbelievable. Shame on you Amigos! I can't believe what you'd do for a buck!

Mexican food is normally not at the top of my favorites list, but this restaurant knew how to do it right. Our guy server was super nice and even gave us a few food suggestions. I went with a small group and ordered various dishes: super burrito, chicken enchilada, amongst a few other dishes. Everything was absolutely delicious and really hit the spot. If you are craving Mexican food, this is your go-to spot! Also, the giant margaritas that they have here are EXCELLENT. They have different flavors, but they are all good.

I LOVE the food here... It tastes so authentic. I gotta say the margaritas are pretty strong (I seriously can't finish one), depending on how alcoholic you are...u might like it...I'm glad I don't have drive outside of Pasadena to have my Fajita fix :)

It's pretty good, but you do need to know what to order. The complimentary chips and salsa are quite tasty, better than most Mexican restaurants. The carne asada nachos are delicious! The margarita is okay, better to get the peach if you must have one. The combination platters are decent enough, but nothing to write home about. Seating is comfortable, and the service is good, but not enough for a fourth star. Bottom line: I don't mind eating here, but I don't go out of my way for it either.

Damn. Yelpers, you failed us. The ONLY thing I can think of in this case, is that many of you had strong margaritas and then wrote the reviews for this below average Mexican restaurant. While not much to look at on the outside (there is no curb appeal here), the inside is even worse. Amigo's is obviously owned by someone who doesn't care about ambience or flair. The dining room doesn't look like its received any attention since 1995. The walls are mostly plain, and there is an old television on a wall mount looming over the tables like an ancient gargoyle. Seriously, for $200, Amigo's could have a flat screen to replace it; for a bit more, a huge flat screen. No matter - the restaurant's decorum is 100% unflattering and made for a really negative setting. When we walked in, we stood at the entrance for what felt like minutes before a woman came from the kitchen and asked how many of us there were; no greeting, no how are you - just come in and sit your ass down. Next up - the chips and salsa were nothing at all to write home about. I highly doubt they were house made at all. The salsa was watery and bland; if there was a Latin cook in the kitchen, he/she should be ashamed. A bottle of La Victoria would have been MUCH tastier than their salsa. Throughout the entire meal, no one ever returned to the table to ask if we wanted more (better Mexican restaurants simply bring them until you tell them they can stop); we wouldn't have wanted more, but it would have been nice to be asked. That never happened. I ordered a margarita on the rocks, salted, since everyone raves about the drinks here. The verdict: VERY strong, but not very tasty. A strong drink does not a good restaurant or bar make. I won't lie; I got pretty blown after downing one on an empty stomach. However, at the end of the day, it was by far, NOT a special margarita whatsoever. My girlfriend had a combo plate and I had the chile verde, which is usually a good measure of a decent Mexican restaurant. The food didn't take long to come out of the kitchen, so at least the service wasn't slow. The food was bland, bland, bland. I had flour tortillas with mine, and they brought only two in a large tortilla warmer; felt really cheap to me. The tortillas themselves were hard; obviously over-warmed, which is a HUGE no-no. Even this gringo knows how to decently warm a tortilla on a warmer or open flame; it's Mexican food 101, folks. Another indication that this restaurant simply doesn't care. Never once did our server return to the table to ask if we needed anything or how the food was. Not once in 20 minutes. However - and this is a good one - we had a great view into the food prep area, where the two older Latin women servers stood drinking, eating and talking to each other while everyone in the dining room fended for themselves. It was disgusting. I do NOT want to see your restaurant employees eating while handling customer food plates. I'm fairly sure there is a health violation there somewhere, but I simply won't return so I am not going to pursue the matter. I have NO idea what people see in this restaurant. My girlfriend even used the restroom before we left and came back horrified, saying she's seen much nicer bathrooms at McDonald's. Yet another indicator that the owners of Amigo's simply do NOT care at all. If you're looking to have a $12 margarita and get smashed on what's probably cheap tequila and booze, then this is your place. However, if you're looking for a nice Mexican restaurant with tasty food and better service, you're better off hitting the nearest Taco Bell; they'd have Amigo's smoked by a long shot.

Passed by this restaurant MANY times and always saw lots of people going in, but had never so much as peeked inside. Finally went in there recently, and although the restaurant isn't the most visually stimulating place, it was nice and comfortable. I actually liked the that bar was in a different room. It helped to keep the noise down in the dining area. The menu was done in a fancy typeface that made it virtually IMPOSSIBLE to read without getting a headache. I am a vegetarian and so I asked if the fajitas could be made without meat. The waiter was VERY accommodating and brought out a beautiful sizzling hot dish of vegetables. The chips were fresh and hot and the salsa had a nice bite. Of course, I like prompt service, but I wish the meal hadn't been brought out SO QUICKLY!! I wanted to enjoy the chips and salsa but the meal was in front of us in no time. And no, they weren't trying to rush us. I would definitely give it another try.

Decided to try this place out due to it's proximity to The Icehouse and positive Yelp reviews. Great prices, good food, and great Margaritas! At least I think they were - my memory is a little hazy... :) I will definitely be going here again next time I'm in Pasadena!

Just came back from my first Amigos experience. 2 Stars seems a little generous for this place but seeing as there are no 1/2 stars options 2 stars it is. PROS Friendly staff. CONS 1. My drink order came very late. I ordered a margarita on the rocks, no salt. Seems like a very common request but took quite some time for the bartender to sort out in a fairly empty dining area. 2. The chips and salsa were (although complimentary) stale and watered down. 3. The food was heavily salted, overcooked and to be honest is still sitting pretty heavy down under.

Amigos is our favorite neighborhood spot. It's great if you want to grab a quick stress free bite to eat. They always have seating and we are ALWAYS greeted by Fernando, who knows my children by name. He really is one of the drawing factors to the place because everyone wants that one place they can go to and are known and treated as regulars. The food is solid, but it is important to order the right things because you aren't exactly ordering from a 5 star joint. Nachos WITHOUT ranchero sauce, chicken or shrimp fajitas, chicken tacos are among the top of my list. Make no mistake, this place will ruin you for Cadillacs. I haven't been satisfied by a margarita outside of Amigos since we discovered the place. I don't even think *I* could ever make one as good as they do. I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews of this place, but I have never had a bad experience here.

Home to what my friend and I have dubbed "slap a b*tch margaritas." They're served in enormous glasses, delicious, and if you have more than one, you might find yourself wondering how you got to the 3 dollar theater across the street watching Adventures of Tintin as we did. (Shh, don't tell anyone, but I still don't remember any of that movie.) You've been warned. The food is definitely predictable and standard, but that doesn't make it any less yummy. How can you go wrong with a huge burrito smothered in cheese, with a big ol' helping of beans and rice on the side, after all? The two colored tortilla chips they add as garnish to the beans always makes me smile. The flan is pretty darn good, too.

I used to love coming here for over 4 years, but now the staff is extremely unfriendly and refuse service without even a discussion about circumstances. I bought one margarita, and refused the advances of a stranger who kept buying me shots of tequila but I refused to drink. Sadly, I had to pay for the drinks that I didn't even take, and the bartender was rude and dismissive. I've brought numerous friends, family, coworkers here, and we will never come back again.

This windowless Mexican place is average. The house margaritas on the rocks was strong but average in taste. We had the chile Colorado and chicken soft tacos, the best part was the rice, guacamole and salsa. The service, however, was above average. Our waiter was a master of making things great! Bottom line: come here to satisfy your Mexican filling and a good buzz on.

Great authentic Mexican restaurant. Fresh quality ingredients and huge portions, Plenty of chips and sales to go around with friendly fast service. The place could use a remodel, everything seems to be frozen in time from late seventies.

This restaurant used to be so much fun to go to and the food and drinks were affordable and delicious UNTIL new owners took over. I am ashamed to say that I was ever a customer of this horrible establishment and would not recommend or take my worst enemy there! The food is disgusting, the service is horrible and the owners are racist. My recommendation is to spend your money at a restaurant that will appreciate you as a customer and appreciate your business NO MATTER WHAT COLOR YOU ARE!

This is, unfortunately, my neighborhood bar. If not for that tragic fact, and the fact that sometimes cute boys go here, I doubt I would have ever set foot inside this place. The margaritas, which for some reason everyone raves about, are strictly pre-mixed and poured into the glass from a large plastic jug. They are strong though. Limit yourself to two or expect a DUI. On the plus side, there are a lot of regulars who are pretty welcoming. So going solo doesn't mean you will lack for conversation. As for the food, it's decent, but nothing to write home about. I know. I tried. "Dear Mom and Dad, Hope all is well with retirement and you are kicking ass in your bocce ball league. By the way, I had the most incredibly mediocre, ok, not awful or terrible, but not that great, sorta decent, Mexican food ever last night..."

We actually go here quite a bit. It's close to my house, the kitchen is open late, and the food is actually pretty good. Their habanero salsa is some of the best around. I always order the tacos a la carte; both hard shell and soft shell tacos are great. Drinks are reasonable, and they pour their margaritas very strong. You can also get the margaritas by the pitcher. Now, this place would rate better for me, however there are a few negatives. It's not the cleanest place around, the bathrooms are gross, and the overall atmosphere seems like it was last re-done sometime in the late 70's...booths, carpet, et al. Depending on the night, there can be somewhat of a rough crowd in there, however you can't hold that against the place. Perhaps the biggest negative is the service. If you're eating on the bar side, the service is atrocious. The main bartender is an older guy, who I won't name here, and is not only slow but he lacks a lot of personality. As far as waiters and waitresses go, there are two guys who are pretty good, so if you eat there try to sit in their section. Nothing against any women in general, but the waitresses they have, especially the ones on the bar side have to be to worst waitresses at any resturant I've been to. Overall, the service doesn't stop me from going there, so it must be worth it. Hope you got something out of this review.

Eat here after drop the vehicle off in Pepboy, there ain't that many restaurant nearby. Is basically a family Mexican restaurant. They serve many well know mexican dish. Pretty cozy inside, it has 2 small tv. They serve lunch special here, is pretty good as long as $6.78 to $8. All order comes with free salsa and chips. Chips is pretty medicore, but the salsa is quite good has bit of spicy on it. I order the carne asada burrito, is huge comes with rice, beans and avocado, the burrito inside is white cheese and steak, delicious. The dish was very hot fresh from cooking. Other similar restaurant would probably cost above $9, this one is $7.75 off the menu.

Exactly what you want in a Mexican place. Great food, great margaritas and cheezy atmosphere. the chips and salsa are awesome. If you like really spicy stuff ask for the hotter salsa. It will burn your mouth. Great portions, day-glo Aztec murals and blues music make this place one of the most interesting restaurants I've been to in a while. And the prices aren't half bad either.

UPDATE from my SECOND REVIEW.....if i could give half a star....I WOULD!!! TERRIBLE!!!! My friends and I came here and enjoyed food and drinks for about 3 to 4 months until about 3 weeks ago (see previous review). We had a bad encounter with one of the waitresses and bartenders. BUT....we decided to give it a SECOND CHANCE. BAD IDEA....we ate and enjoyed one drink each. Received the check. But was told by the bartender " why are you guys here? you said you were not coming back why come back?: (VERY RUDELY) First of all, we came here to give you guys a second chance because we really enjoyed the past experiences here. The food was great and drinks and even the service. Why reject us and the money we are paying?! Basically he was turning us down!!! I was very mad!!! We are here to pay but you are basically rejecting us!? We should have just dined and dashed BUT NOOOOO...we actually sat there.....took your mean remarks AND looks....and PAID our entire check!!!! SO UPSET WITH THIS PLACE.....for me it went from a 4 star to HALF a star. Yes, everyone has different experiences. But BEWARE...WEDNESDAY NIGHT BARTENDER AND WAITRESS (near the jukebox) are very rude when it comes around closing time. And just want to leave and reject you. My friend also asked for a horchata smoothie.....and the waitress said we dont have horchata. How in the world do you not have horchata....its a mexican restaurant. She was mean and just kept looking at the check to see if we were done.

Gringa loves her margaritas and based on previous reviews, I expected to love this place. Maybe the strongest margarita I've ever been served and it was still tasty. Even more so after I had two ;) Taquitos, beans, and rice were also solid.

Great local joint where I never fail to make a new friend. A little ashamed to admit we're weekly regulars for Victor's amazing Cadillac margaritas! The fajita salad or fish tacos a la carte are great when feeling virtuous, otherwise the carne Asada w/cheese enchilada is a guilty pleasure. Friday nights are packed so expect to wait. Saturday nights less so.

STRONG margaritas..old school set up inside. Dark, loud loud crowd..delicious salsa, and warm salted chips. Bf and I both got the cadillac margaritas, and we were kind of feeling it by the end of the drink. Meeee gusta!

Upon entry to this establishment, the hostess seemed warm...but after waiting about 1/2 hour, I noticed that she didn't even look back at the people waiting; I mean, not even updating peeps waiting to how much longer it would be. Her whole attention was focused into the dining area.....was very weird. She could see peeps come and go but she wasn't updating waiters. In fact, I think the waiters were calling names to seat people.......so, I don't know what her job is?!?!?! Beyond that and finally seated, the food was quite delicious; we had a taquito with guacamole, carne asada burrito, chicken soup, and combination cheese enchilada & chile relleno & carnita tamale. Parking is a bit rough because the lot is quite small and dark....they should do something about the lighting before somebody gets hurt =(

I write this review hoping that some minor changes will make this restaurant into the place that we will call home. The food was good and the service was attentive. Our waitress was new (two days) but very friendly and welcoming. There was a mistake on the bill but it was quickly rectified. Our major problem was the atmosphere. The lighting in the main dining room needs to be down lights at each table (or at the very least warm candles at each table). The wall sconces are old and give off a very unflattering light. Please get rid of the lattice around the entrance to the kitchen. Also, please eliminate the early American turned posts and replace the flower arrangement with nothing, or better yet, with live plants or fresh flowers. We have been searching for a premier Mexican restaurant in the Pasadena area since the old El Poche in San Gabriel closed. This could be it with a little more attention to decoration.

Came here for my birthday lunch with coworkers and the bosses :-) Have come once before after office hours though for the margaritas. Couldn't do that this time lol Anyhow I love the food. And it passed the true test with our secretary whom is Hispanic. So if you want the authentic stuff this is a good spot to check out.

I gave them 3 stars because their service was really good. Fernando took very good care of us. This was our first visit to Pasadena. We set the bar pretty high when it comes to Mexican food because we live in an area with a lot of migrant workers and a large Hispanic community. The food was pretty good. I've had better, but it was passable. The chips were quite a bit like you'd get in Mexico. The salsa kind of tasted like it was doctored up stuff in a jar. The guacamole was fresh and the avocados had a great taste. personally, I like more "other stuff" in my guac, but it was still very tasty. I had the carnitas plate and my wife had the pollo en mole. My carnitas was kind of dry, but had good flavor. The refritos were just there. The rice had good flavor. I'm used to getting fresh, grilled jalapenos on the side. I got canned/jar pickled jalapenos. The pico de gallo was fresh and tasty, as were the tortillas (both corn and flour). My wifes mole was really good. It's a sweet mole, with nice chocolate notes. The margarita was, "meh". Not really noteable. They would do well to provide a drink menu to describe what kind of margaritas they'll make, etc. My michelada was good. Enough mix and ice in a glass to mix with two bottles of beer. Bottom line, I'd go back, but I'd try other local offerings first.

Great Mexican. Their carnitas are the best in Pasadena. Everything else on the menu is just as good Margaritas are amazing also. Great service.

Amigo's has the best refried beans around and their Camarones ala Diabla are the best in Pasadena! Yes, I've tried them all. The staff is fantastic, and not just at waiting on people, they are also wonderful human beings. They found my cell phone after I had left it and put it away until I realized what I had done! It took me two days to track it down, but it was safely stored in the office to greet me upon my return. I go there every week and have taken many friends! If you like margarita's, you'll love theirs!

Average at best. Food came SUPER Quick, scary quick for a dine-in restaurant. We got two tacos, a chile relleno, an enchilada amd rice and beans in about 5 minutes. Taco was bland, enchilada was ok, rice tasted like the refrigerator. Orderded a chicken enchilada, they gave me a cheese enchilada. Replaced it without issue. Restaurant looked very old and very dingy inside, from the floors to the ceiling. Wouldn't return

This place is great for strong Margaritas. Most of the foods is okay with the exception of the garlic shrimp and the cheeseburger they are great lol (I know its a Mexican restaurant but yes, the cheeseburger) ....but, they have now raised their prices (i guess to pay for the new bathrooms) and only give 2 complimentary chips if you buy a meal....the parking lot is small...and the service is just okay

Poor ambiance, and the food is very average. Service was great, and the food did arrive very quickly. My stomach also felt the effects for several days.

We came here upon the recommendation of Alice while we were going to check out the 626 night market which was many blocks away that turned out to be a a poorly created event. Alice said Amigos has some good food and because we were walking it seemed like forever while walking east on Colorado blvd. There was six of us cruising down to Amigos which I thought was funny cause we were going to the 626 Market for some Asian food instead we are heading to a Mexican restaurant. Upon arriving we were quickly seated and our drink orders were taken. I want to say the Jamica was pretty darn good with free refills. I ordered the Carne Asada dry with no beans except rice. The meats were beautifully cooked and I finished the plate clean. Within a couple of days I was back for the Carne Asada Burrito and again I cleaned off my plate and having some good Jamica. This place also has a bar aside from the restaurant. The waiters are friendly and helpful and refill drinks without me asking. I think next time I'm asking for a margarita to try.

I had a sudden and acute craving for really good Mexican food and it was satisfied here. I felt lucky to have found this place, thanks to Yelp. The meal started off on a high note with warm tortilla chips and spicy salsa that was refilled without even having to ask! My carne asadas tacos were yummy and I scraped my plate until my stomach was painfully full of rice and beans. My dining companion's garlic shrimp was also yummy and offered with a choice of flour or corn tortillas. The classic margarita was $6 because it was happy hour and I got to try something new, a Michelada. All in all, it was a great evening.

Pretty good Tex-Mex food. I had a chile relleno and it was solid, but not amazing. The other dishes ordered looked about the same-standard tex-mex food with good flavors. The chips and salsa were great- I really enjoyed the salsa. Food was probably 3- 3 1/2 stars but I added a star for the margaritas. These are strong but they are really good. I can handle my alcohol pretty well and I found this to have a kick to it. I had a strawberry margarita on the rocks; the blended mango and original on the rocks that my dining companions ordered also looked good. I believe it was around $8 which was a nice value considering the size and strength of the drinks. There are two rooms in the restaurant; I suggest sitting in the one by the bar as it has more of an atmosphere and isn't weirdly quiet (but it isn't loud either).

I was refereed to this restaurant by some friends and I have to say I was pretty disappointed. Location The restaurant has a nice comfortable vibe. It is a bit dim inside and has booth, table, and bar seating. They have their own parking lot which is fairly small. We arrived a bit before 12am and the lot was completely packed. Around the restaurant there is residential area which also limits the street parking. Service The service was a complete let down. The place was surprisingly busy for a late Sunday night so I had some sympathy for our server Fernando. My group and I placed drink orders all around thinking we'd be able to coat our stomachs with some good Mexican food. When we asked our server for menus he said he'd be right back with some. He placed our drink order with the bartender and came right back to tell us he wasn't sure if the kitchen was still open. We asked him to check and he came back with our drinks and then told us the kitchen was closed. Personally, this may not seem like a big deal to most but it is common practice to inform guests that the kitchen is no longer serving food before being seated. What disappointed me the most is that he placed our drink order assuming we came to a restaurant just for drinks, which I guess is realistic when considering how late we arrived however; I don't think this is acceptable given that we were asking for menus from the beginning clearly indicating that we were expecting to eat. My friend who recommended this place was also upset. He said the kitchen is normally open till closing which is at 2am. Food On the other hand Fernando did an "okay" job at fetching us chips and salsa. Their habanero salsa was pretty tasty but didn't have the kick I was expecting (free). We also got an order of guacamole ($3 per small bowl); which I still don't understand why we were able to get guacamole if the kitchen was closed. The guacamole was average. Their margaritas ($8) were pretty good but didn't make up for the lack of food. Overall Ah, I might give them another try but probably not because I don't want to run the risk of just drinking when I am looking for a good meal. Tip Ask if the kitchen is still open!

The service was terrible. 3pm on a Sunday we never had salsa or water refilled, no napkins like we asked for, waiter only checked on us after an hour to see if we wanted more margaritas. The only reason this place earns one star is for the STRONG and tasty margaritas.

The foods good. The house margaritas on the rocks are everything, but boy have they attracted the wrong crowd!!! My fiancé has been going to amigos for years and introduced me to this place. We loved it for date night bc it was very lowkey and the prices were pretty good for the amount of food you were served and how buzzed you were walking out the door. It's been, idk, maybe a year since we've been there and we decided to go last night. It was a Friday evening and they were a little busy. We got seated right away, got our drinks and not until maybe 20 minutes after, the waitress finally noticed I was trying to wave her down to take our order for food, since we were sitting in the dining area. I'd understand if she was rushing back and forth and maybe was serving more than she could handle...but she wasn't. She was standing around and gossiping about a group of men and underaged boys, that were seated next to us, that were causing mayhem because they weren't getting served alcohol. Our date night turned into the most uncomfortable experience bc we felt like someone in that place possibly had a gun, was going to start a fight, or rob us for our jewelry. So idk if it was because of them that she felt like she couldn't come next to our table! 10 minutes after we got our food we were done with our drinks and we're looking to get some water or maybe another margarita to take the edge off. We put our empty glasses on the edge of the table to get someone's attention, we even tried waving someone down but they were so wrapped in those other people's drama. My fiancé and I just decided to get up and walk to the front counter and not until then, our waitress asked if everything was ok. We paid...she obviously didn't get a tip lol. The service was sooooo terrible. Regardless if you have some ghetto people in the house, the least you can do it take care of the other customers that are trying to enjoy their night. Oh and I forgot to mention our seat was 1 booth away from the kitchen. So we were in plain site of the chefs practically. It'll be a verrrrrry long time till we go back, if we ever decide to go back. I really hope the crowd changes.

Amazing food! Probably the best sit-down Mexican food I have tried in the Los Angeles area so far. (You can't compare this to street tacos!) Great price for the quality. Great service every single time. Always fast and engaging in conversation with their customers. We have Fernando as our waiter most times and he is AWESOME. STRONG margaritas! Not kidding, only drink one or two unless you're looking for a hangover. My only suggestion would be that the owner upgrade some of the decor. They've already got the food and service all figured out!

pretty average Mexican restaurant - food was okay, but not exceptional. service though was exceptional - in a bad way. once served, the waitress disappeared. took as long to order and eat as it did to then get a check so we could leave. as there was only one other party in the place, one has to wonder where she went for that extra 30+ min that we won't be getting back.

My favorite dine in spot for Mexican food in Pasadena. The Margaritas are strong, the waiters are awesome! Really friendly environment, the food is delicious, I'm white but my fiancé is Mexican and she likes it, so it's gotta be legit, right? She loves their fajitas, I enjoy their enchiladas. Their mole is ok, but it's hard to make good mole.

Yelpers.... You're drunk. NO decor. BAD service. Bland food. $11 for a strong ass margarita, but you can get that somewhere else that has better food and ambiance. Dirty bathrooms. This place has no personality at all. Ya'll must've had one too many and thought the food was amazing! Will never come here again.

From the sad sign that simply states "cocktails" on top of the door, you would never think that this place served up some mean margaritas. The Cadillac margaritas are pretty strong (as they should be). The blended margaritas were tasty, but not quite as strong as you would want a margarita to be. The free chips and salsa and friendly service were great as well. I wish I could write about the food, but we just stopped by for a drink because we heard that Amigo's had great margaritas. I'll be sure to stop by and try the food next time. :)

4.5 Stars The drinks alone are 5 stars, the food 4 stars. Their Chimichangas were pretty tasty and meaty. The margaritas are truly diabolical! I had one...ONLY ONE and I was pretty toasted. The strawberry margaritas are pretty good too and less strong. I think I'm gonna stick with those the next time I go here. I may need a few more weeks to recuperate from last night.

We were craving Mexican food and based on being in the area and a 4 star yelp average, we went here. The place from the outside looks like a dive bar. Upon entering Amigo's, you immediately realize how dated the place looks. I mean it has been a good 20 years since someone has touched the place. Before ordering, went to wash my hands, another red flag, the bathroom was filthy, old and smelly, indicating they are not too big on keeping them clean, which further indicates the likely condition of the kitchen. We ordered fajitas, fish tacos, taquitos. Taquitos were pretty tasty and crispy, Faitas and fish tacos...meh, nothing special. Service was attentive and the place was packed which tells me they have their local base. We didn't order any alcohol, but most people did, which indicates most get too drunk to realize the sub-standard food and provide the many 4 or 5 star reviews. Overall, I will likely not return since there are much better Mexican restaurants in Pasadena with better food.

Had some business our in this area. Forgot the name of the restaurant, location, but have been here a few years ago. I had a mental picture of the place so I search Google Earth for mexican restaurants in Pasadena. Found it again!! Such awesome food! I have added the address to my phone book now so I can come back again.

We've been going here for years--since we moved to Pasadena 12 years ago. The day we closed on the house we were in the mood for margaritas. Saw Amigos and we've been fans ever since. Chicken enchiladas suizas, pickled jalapeños on the side and an ice cold Tecate or margarita and you're starting your evening off right. Family place. Owner's a true gentleman.

Another place we go after kendo practice because they are open late (until 2am on Friday nights). I like their tacos and taquitos. This time I ordered their chicken flautas. I asked if it was white meat (I like) or dark meat. They said dark and I asked if they could do white, he said that they would. They have pretty good guacamole too. Also, I usually do not eat refried beans but at this place I always do.

Amigo's is like the Cheers of Mexican cantinas. It's a neighborhood joint with a strong local vibe. You don't go out of your way to come here unless you're in the area. That being said, I finally made a venture here last night while sober. My past experiences have been in a desperate search for food so that I could get back to equilibrium. Open until midnight, it's a good option for late night eats, especially for sit down restaurants in this area, where most of the open eateries past 10 pm are fast food. The food is your average Mexican fair. Fajitas, burritos, enchiladas, tacos, chimichangas, etc. You name it, it's there. The portions are generous and large enough to feed two. The margaritas take generous to a whole other level. They don't mess around with these drinks, and pours are heavy handed enough to do the job after just a few.

So this place exists. If you're looking for items that will take the place of emptiness in your stomach, this will do. If you're looking for Mexican food, you know, the kind that uses spices and has flavors, you would do better at most chains. Tastes like the kind of "Mexican" food you get at a place in the Midwest served by a girl who does cage fighting on the weekends. Save $6 and get the Taco Bell 99 cent burrito, no joke. It has more kick. DON'T BELIEVE THE FOOLS WHO SAY THIS IS GOOD!

Been coming here for a couple of years now thanks to a tip from an old friend of mine. Amigos is the place to get together with buddies after work for happy hour or dinner with the family. Yes the decor is outdated and the restaurant layout is kinda odd but who cares! A fun time: I used to come here only for the margaritas since they are pretty strong and decently priced (about $7 bucks) which isn't much considering a watered down cocktail at any other place runs about the same or more but they aren't nearly this good. Original On the Rocks is the best since it's more potent but if you want less of a buzz get it blended (I've done the test by the way...can handle about 3-4 blended but only two on the rocks even with the same amount of food in my belly). They also have the fruity margaritas but I hardly ever get them. They are tasty but a little too sweet for me. For the food... I'm Mexican so of course the best in my opinion is moms or grannies home cooked meals. The food here is good not out of this world nor the best but ok. I've had several different plates here and I haven't been disappointed...yet. The Ranchera Chicken Enchiladas are my favorite since they use a spicier sauce. The rice and beans are tasty. If a restaurant can't make decent rice and beans you've got a problem there! It isn't hard to make at home so why should it at a restaurant? Same with the Salsa. If a salsa is awful at any Mexican eatery then get up, walk away from the table slowly, and run out the door while you can. Fortunately for us the salsa here is good too but the best is the smoky salsa that is served by special request (it's much "spicier" than their basic ones). Oh and they have free refills on the Jamaica (Hibiscus drink) which is rare at any other Mexican restaurant. Customer Service: The people here are nice and attentive. I've never had any complaints regarding the service. The male servers are a bit nicer for some reason but maybe because I'm a female and I'm generally not a bitch to others so I can see why they'd give me that treatment. hahahaha Parking: Not much behind nor out front but some on the side streets. If you come after 7pm or so you can just park across the street at the Tire Store.

We drove by this restaurant on Colorado Blvd. many a time, not even noticing it. It is very unassuming from the outside and easy to miss. Funny how those are usually the BEST places, isn't it? After a recommendation from my wife's co-worker, we wandered into Amigos one Friday night and have have been regular customers ever since. Amigos does not score points for decor or fancy digs, but man do they have great food and margaritas. Not once have we tried something that we did not like and we've had super fast and friendly service each time we've gone. Some of our favorites include the carnitas tacos/plate, chicken tacos, arroz con pollo, and guacamole. I must honestly say that this is our "go-to" spot for Mexican food...and we're picky about this genre having spent many years in El Paso, TX and Los Angeles.

This is a review of the bar, and it's a short story about deal breakers. Having a small bar area is okay, but you've gotta know how to utilize it. You don't do that with huge, circular booths that seat less people than the actual bar area does. Having nowhere to sit is alright, but having nowhere to stand--not even a patio? That blows. Not that it was even busy enough to be so full. But I digress. You might be wondering "Taric, tell us why you have an axe to grind with their bar?" It's because I was pretty hyped for the house margarita. I asked for it on the rocks, and glanced over as the margarita was simply poured out of the jug. At most bars, the price would get me something at least made to order, and of better tequila than some bitter well swill. I can already tell this place is questionable.

  • La C.

Sure, the outside looks scary-divy, but inside you'll find a laid-back, relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Nobody's here to impress or be hipper than thou. Just come as you are. But beware the ATOMIC margaritas! After drinking one marg, I feel like I've just had 1/2 bottle of wine. I don't care for the overly sugary, syrupy marg mix, so one day I asked for a scratch margarita with no sugar. The server seemed confused but eventually agreed. I then added my own STEVIA, and it was perfect!

I've been here maybe 15 times in the last two years and have always had a blast. Drinks: Always get the cadillac, always happily regret it, always leave in a drunken stupor. They're not cheap, but man, are they potent! Food: Nachos: AMAZING. Easily sharable between 3-4 people. Tacos: Carnitas and carne asada were bountiful - packed full of meat and are like delicious street tacos on steroids. Carne asada plate: greasy, filling, and juicy meat. Good divey Mexican food. A plus: the endless chips and salsa are great. I love their chips, the salsa is above average, and you can also ask for salsa verde or a watered down salsa roja. Service: I love the bartender here. He's chill and will share shots with ya. The waiters and waitresses are also nice and attentive. Environment: This place is divey. It's not necessarily a place you bring out of towners or dates to impress, but it is a place you go to get drunk and to eat good, reasonably priced Mexican food. It's dark, dingy, and you'll encounter a fair share of loud kids and/or drunken tools, but it's all part of the experience.

First time at the Amigos. I will likely go again. The restaurant seems a bit old and run down without it being a real problem. Service early in a Sunday night was reasonably quick. The food - steak fajitas- was good, without being very good. The steak was in very small pieces rather than in strips of meat. Overall I give 3 stars. Perfectly ok food, but not where I would take my family.

Great strong Margaritas...like really, they kick butt. I'm not a margarita drinker but these are great . Please have a designated driver when you come here. Super chill hole in the wall atmosphere .. the service is good and the prices aren't too shabby ...I'm a fan! The place itself could use some updating but eh! It's a dive! I tried the arroz con pollo! yummy . The chips and salsa is tasty. I've also had the ceviche which is not on the menu very fresh and refreshing . Love this place. Not fancy date type place more like Monday night football, happy hour joint.

My girlfriend and I are regular patrons of this establishment. Looks can be deceiving, driving by on Colorado you would not think this place is worthy as there are many other restraunt a in old town. This place is a hidden gem and I will continue coming.

My new hangout! Street parking. Even though the ambiance isn't my ideal, after three sips of one $7.50? cadillac margarita you will forget your last name and that they purposely sat you near the restrooms. Lots of nerdy Cal Tech looking students dine here which is fascinating to watch them. lol. The food is pretty good, the restaurant is convenient for me and they draw a huge margarita crowd so you definitely are in the right place... margaritas are excellent! I will be back!

Been going here for years. It's a great hole in the wall. If you blink, you might miss it. Most recent visit was with my hubby. Sat at the bar. Darkly lit, good drinks, attentive waitstaff. Servings are huge! Come hungry and leave happy. There's also a restaurant side if you don't want to go to the bar. Street parking and very small lot in back! Will be back again for sure.

Discovered this little gem last night and all I have to say is what a find! The boyfriend was in the mood for margaritas, and I was in the mood for just some authentic Mexican food. Went on yelp, and voila we found Amigo's. Most of the reviews on Yelp however, only spoke about their amazing margaritas. This was great for the boyfriend but left me somewhat skeptical about the food I was about to eat. I mean, could I really trust that the food is good when all anyone talks about is margaritas? Does that mean that everyone who has eaten at Amigo's had inebriated taste buds? Then I realized, I really didn't care and would try it anyway. I ordered the shrimp cocktail, which even though is described as having 7 large shrimp, was FULL of medium sized shrimp. And, tomato, and avocado. It was delicious! My boyfriend ordered the albondigas (soup) and that as well came in a large bowl and tasted amazing. I would honestly go back tonight and eat it all over again, it was that good. Service at the bar was also excellent. Our bartender was the coolest, older Latino gentleman who danced to Ganghnam style whenever the song came on. The crowd was mixed, all very friendly (apparently we were there during Happy Hour which lasts till 7). However, the dining room is also an option if you want a quieter more family oriented setting. Be advised however, that this place hasn't seen a face lift in quite some time. So don't expect anything fancy. Just expect some good margaritas, and oh yes, some good food.

I wouldn't call this place a hole in the wall, but it's definitely has that hole in the wall feeling....which is why this is one of my favorite Mexican spots. It's definitely one of those hidden gems that not too many people know about. First off, every true Mexican food aficionado knows that "chips and salsa" is the first test as to how good a Mexican restaurant is. Amigo's passes this test easily. Chips are always crisp, they have the perfect amount of salt on them and the salsa goes perfectly with the chips as well as blending in nicely with the food. It's not the standard pico de gallo that you get from alot of spots. This one is definitely tasty, and if you prefer the hotter type of salsa, they do have a habanero blend that you could request. But what I really love about this place is their margaritas. Two of these will usually do the trick for me, but if you're a lightweight, one actually just might be enough to get you that really good buzz. Any more than that and you may be asking for trouble. It turns out that they do sell pitchers of it and for $1 more, you can get a cadillac margarita (don't quote me on that, but that's what I remember from the last time I was there). There are so many delicious dishes here with a good portion size (actually, the portions are very generous here), but the one dish that I usually almost go back to is the Colorado Burrito. For under $8, you get a huge wet burrito with sour cream spilling off it and a side of rice on the plate. For me, it seems to hit the spot. I've also had their soft tacos (which are tasty) and their shrimp cocktail (also big portions), but I usually just go back to what I love, the colorado burrito. The bar isn't much to write home about, just a couple booths, a jukebox, some average TVs (don't think it's in HD) and a bunch of barstools. But it's the food & margaritas that keep me coming back to this hole in the wall. If you're a fan of margaritas and good mexican food, I definitely recommend this spot.

This place is pretty good second time here. I am extremely intoxicated as the margarita are strong. Had the Colorado burrito and my sis had the chicken chimichanga it was selfish. Leaving feeling good. Will definitely return

Plain and simple- regular margarita on the rocks with salt = bomb.com go tell your mom. Also the macho chimichanga is the best thing on their menu ;) I'm always here if I was on yelp earlier i'd be the freaking queen of amigos. They sprinkle magic in their margaritas. ;)

My co-workers and I have been coming to this restaurant for years. Besides the proximity of our work location (where eating fast is a necessity), this restaurant serves good quality food at decent prices with excellent service. I always get the Chicken Mole plate. Portions are large and the chicken has always been flavorful and tender. My co-worker always gets the steak burrito, which is satisfyingly large and well made. We have also gotten the beef nachos, which is a mountain of chips, cheese, beef, beans, salsa and takes at least three people to finish. A couple of weeks ago my daughter ordered a bowl of chicken soup, which probably has been one of the tastiest bowls of soup ever. Thick chunks of white chicken meat in a light chicken broth with large cuts of carrots, onions, celery and squash. Again, service has always been fantastic and the food is prepared quickly. I can't speak for the bar or the drinks, I haven't been there yet, but the food at Amigo's is great!!

I absolutely love this place, introduced to it by my dad who lives a few blocks down the street. I've taken about ten different people here over the past year and have never had a bad experience and always come back. Margaritas are fierce and the food is great. They have a cantina and the kitchen typically closes around eleven for late eaters. Always a good good choice for a pit stop of beer and tacos in the cantina or a nice late night dinners of skillet fajitas and strong margaritas. Five stars*****

Margaritas, Margaritas, Margaritas. That's what you should come here for. Food is OK, decent in price and taste. We live down the street and walk down to Amigos about once every two weeks. Usually we just grab a drink in the bar. Margaritas are strong, I've never been able to finish 2. I think the word is getting out because we went last night and the place was packed...at 10pm.

  • Wayne H.

An upstanding neighborhood joint - friendly people, large portions and very special margaritas. One can expect to spend around $13 or more per dinner entree, excluding beverage. If you enjoy shrimps, I recommend the Crystal's special. Their margarita is unlike any I've sampled elsewhere, by that I mean there's, I think, a sedative quality to it. Try to keep under two glasses if you intend to drive afterwards.

I've been working in Pasadena at Caltech since 1995 and have been living in Pasadena since 2005. Since that time I have enjoyed going to Amigo's especially since moving here in 2005. When I want good mexican food and a good time all I have to do is walk two blocks up to Amigo's. Besides the food I like that it's a magnet for locals that live in the area as well as Caltech people. If your in the bar not only dose the conversations include sports it could also include science. On Sunday (9/12/2010) I walked back from Old Town Pasadena and was hungry so I walked in and ordered one of my favorite dishes, the #21 Super Burrito. Most mexican restaurants, when you order a burrito, you get just the burrito and that's it but at Amigo's one gets a plate with rice, beans and the burrito of their choice. The Super Burrito will set you back $7.50. Not too bad for the amount of food you get and by the way I rolled home with a full stomach. Other items I enjoy: #19 Carne Asada Burrito #20 Colorado Burrito (Refried beans, seasoned beef, diced tomato, shredded lettuce & cheese all wrapped in a soft flour tortilla & covered with a red enchilada sauce) #17 Fajitas (Both steak & chicken) #1 Amigo's Nachos with steak #57 Machaca (Shredded beef sautéed onions, bell peppers, tomatoes and egg) I always add jalapenos to kick it up a notch. #55 Carne Asada Dinner Plate Writing this has made me hungry see you at Amigo's!!!

Aaaaah Amigos, how i love thee margarita's! Food is okay, i go for the carne asada tacos or when i have a little more change i have the garlic shrimp. Keep an eye on you bill though, i was charged $10 over a few times once i saw my credit charges on my statement. Use cash.. Itd be nice if they put in a few flat screens to replace the 2 old ones in the bar and the juke box could use some updating..but if u are looking to be there briefly, just for a drink or two, then it deserves 5 stars!

  • Anne L.

Hidden gem. Really good burritos, made the original way. You get your meat, rice, cheese, refried beans, and lettuce. And the margarita was great. Kicked right in after the first sip.

    Reviewing the Margaritas only: 1 Margarita = "Yay, I'm at Amigos and this a good margarita" 2 Margarita= "I'm drunk" 3 Margarita= "I'm wasted" 4 Margarita= "Sir...sir...sir...you're at Huntington Memorial..you got alcohol poisoning"

  • Samira H.

Thumbs up for the chicken tamales (soft and moist) and the new mixed berry margarita (sweet and strong). Not a fan of the prices - King Taco will always win in that department in my opinion - but the quality of the food, drinks, and service are worth the extra dough.

Margaritas and chimichangas are all I can comment on here but those were definitely some strong!!!!!! Ritas!!!!!!! Came here after being informed that a movie we had been interested in had way too long a line and we would never get in. I think since I was informed later the movie was bad it must have been the right decision after all I was able to bond with a few really nice yelpers and get my drink on. This place is just a few blocks from the office so perfect for a friday night and that chimichanga was perfectly fried to greasy shredded beef perfection. Is the food a 4 star? Likely NOT.... As for the Ritas 5 star all the way!!!!: I believe the rundown was one will make you tipsy, two you will be drunk and three you will spin.....yep I think that was accurate. Glad I had a nice person to accompany me home and tuck me in...She is My Amigo(a)!!!!

The boyfriend and I were looking for decent Mexican food within walking distance from our apartment. We usually go to La Fiesta Grande and we are sort of done with their food. Not only were the Enchiladas yummy, but I had a wonderful Chimichanga. I loved the presentation with the little Mexican flag in the rice (which was equally delicious). We are definitely going to go back since the food is great and the prices are affordable. One tip: there is a tiny, tiny parking lot so be prepared to park on the street and walk a little, if necessary.

  • Ray C.

This was my first visit to Amigos. I am a huge fan of Mexican food and I was looking for something new. Based on the Yelp reviews I decided to give Amigos a try. The margaritas are tasty and strong...if you drink more than one, be prepared to have a designated driver. The food was good but not outstanding. I had a beef taco and cheese enchilada combo. Everything tasted good and was filling. I wish they would put onions in their cheese enchiladas. The décor is the typical tacky Mexican. The service was prompt and courteous. The night we went, it was not particularly busy and our food came within 5 minutes of ordering! We didn't have time to get filled up on chips and salsa. This restaurant is located on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena and has a small parking lot. Parking can be an issue. I plan to come back and would also like to try their Happy Hour.

This place is walking distance from me so its convenient. It's open late and has pretty consistent tasting food. Ive tried most of their burritos and I have also tried their chicken enchiladas and crunchy tacos. All are pretty good and reasonably priced. The only thing I have tried that I know I do not like it the horchata. It was sub par to say the least, a disappointment for any mexican place. Today there was a lunch special, $6.75 for a burrito, it was pretty darn big. It came with rice and beans and choice of meat. Guacamole and sour cream as well. The beans were ok, the rice seemed re-heated, all in all it was a good deal and a quick choice. I know I'll come back.

My friends come here a lot and so I came with them. I'd come back, but I'm not impressed and would not come here on my own. The food is okay, not exceptional. I also ordered a strawberry margarita that I could not finish - very good but too sweet for me. I really like the juke box, a mix of classics and latin. The decor is only okay, the place could really use an update.

  • Manish P.

Terrible, Terrible, Terrible...I guess the only reason this place has 4 stars is because the margaritas are so strong that everyone is drunk by the time the food comes out. This place doesn't even hid the fact that they use old el paso enchilada sauce out of a can and the salsa on the table is Picante out of a bottle bought at costco...avoid this place at all costs, it is terrible.

I'm not here to rate their sketchiness or questionable sideline businesses if they partake in them. I'm here to rate their service and food. We were seated immediately and yes, it was busy with several large families in attendance and couples sprinkled throughout. We did however, enter through the cantina and immediately thought the whole restaurant was lit this way. Upon turning to our left we saw the walkway to the actual restaurant. As far as the cantina is concerned I don't mind the dim lights or lack thereof. The last thing you'd expect is flourescent lighting in a bar anyway. Onto our experience at Amigo's shall we? As previously mentioned we were seated promptly with drink service instantaneous. Our waiter (an older gentleman) gave us enough time to look over our menu before coming over to take our order. Perfect timing I think. Our food came out lighting fast and as I observed, so did the other patron's meals. I ordered the chicken enchilada suizas and my husband ordered their chorizo con juevos and a carne asada taco. Our entrees came with rice and beans accompanied with fresh salsa and fresh-out-of the-fryer tortilla chips. The carne asada taco was awesome (direct quote from my husband himself) and reminded him of a mexican joint back in Irvine. My enchiladas were very good and the green sauce didn't taste canned/jarred at all. The portions were huge and we left stuffed and satisfied. In total we spent a little over $20 with tip. Not bad for lunch. The portions were huge and water service was on point. We did not wait very long to get our food and we were out of there in no time (perfect when you have a long agenda ahead of you). We will highly consider going there again and hope all of your experiences here are as good as ours was.

Food is ok -nothing spectacular. Portions are satisfying and reasonably priced. I had the burrito plate for lunch. It was a good lunch with good service. I just wasn't impressed. The place seems to be more of a night club, So it can shine at night and I was missing the full effect.

I was looking forward to finding a good place for Mexican food and Margaritas near us, but this wasn't the place. The Margaritas were fine (I have had better), but the food was boring. All tasted like bagged/canned food. Example - the chips while warm were clearly some supermarket type chips warmed up. The salsa was weak and thin. The guacamole was ok, but that is hard to mess up. The beans and rice, well the beans tasted like canned rosarita beans and the rice tasted like a bland box mix rice with a few corn kernals thrown in. The enchilada was nothing special and the taco was pretty bland. I had to add salsa and guacamole to the taco for it to be tasty. The beans and rice were so bland that i finally added salsa and it still didn't help. There was stringy melted cheese all over, but no other seasonings. The meal was filling, but that was about it. I really don't understand all the 4 star reviews.

  • Romeo M.

Good food, I had a carnitas taco combo with rice and beans. Rice was fluffy and not dry. The refried beans was food and the carnitas was delicious and had the right amount of outer crisp and tender inside. My only is the the salsa it was too mild and did not have enough flavor.

Decent food, nice service, really good salsa, and great - strong! - margaritas. Life is good.

  • Stephanie G.

I love this place! It is definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. I probably average a couple of visits per week. EVERYTHING here is good. I don't think I've had anything that I don't like. They have a great carnitas plate and the tacos are awesome. They have STRONG margaritas. Seriously strong. If you're feeling especially courageous, go for the cadillac margarita. If you drink more than one, you probably won't remember much of dinner. So, in other words, thumbs up on the margaritas. Parking can be a little bit annoying when it's busy, but I usually park across the street in the evening (when the other businesses are closed) and have never had an issue with this.

Do you want to be drunk, and quickly? Then this is the place for you. Came here before a movie with two friends, ordered a pitcher of margaritas, and we were all feeling it after about two sips. And thus, when the pitcher was empty, of course we thought it was a good idea to get another pitcher. (It was not. Desperate texts to friends commenced, trying to get them to help us finish our second pitcher folly.) Anyway, the margaritas were totally worth it and propelled many people into interesting life decisions. The food was probably just okay, but at the time tasted utterly fantastic.

Dark, divey and delicious. This is my go to spot when I need some deep fried carnitas and a margarita that knocks you on your ass. Don't let the fact that they pour them from large, plastic bottles throw you off, they still work perfectly. I always eat in the bar and listen in on some of the most insane conversation Pasadena has to offer. The jukebox has an eclectic mix of CD's that probably haven't been rotated out in 10 years. Go here to escape reality and enjoys some off the menu sopes.

First things first, strong and tasty margaritas for $8! When you get seated, they start you off with complimentary chips and salsa. For food, I ordered a chimichanga, rice and beans and it was pretty good. I had came with two other people and one of them also had a chimichanga, rice and beans and the other had a taco salad and both of them said they were satisfied with their meals too. The place has a mom and pop kind of feel and the crowd is pretty diverse. The service is pretty good and the waiters are friendly as well.

Came in here hungry for some Mexican food and definitely didn't leave disappointed! This place provides fresh chips and salsa which is always a plus in my book. I started off with a strawberry margarita which was strong and delicious at the same time! They have several other fruity flavors and my friends got the mango margarita which was equally as good ,they say. For food I ordered the chicken chimichunga, which was huge! Yummy and flavorful chicken with cheese and rice in a deep fried burrito....l mean how can you go wrong! I definitely enjoyed all of it. It came with rice and beans which were also very good. The service was good and we got our food quickly, I also enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. I would go here again and try different things on the menu.

Since I had a terrible experience with Margarita Jones, I just had to write a good review for this place. Food is delish, drinks are nicely made and for not being a margarita fan... I have became one! Don't let the exterior of the place fool you.... Service is prompt. I have been there for lunch a few times and even a plain salad is tasty! This is a must go to all you New Years Parade visitors!

Spent my morning returning the Burrito Colorado to the ground from which it came. I kind of regret not spending the $8.00 on a Margarita, at least it would have killed the germs.

My hubby and I went here for a Saturday afternoon refreshment and to get the latest college football updates. Lorena was behind the bar and is a very nice and personable person. Enjoyed pleasant conversations with the other patrons. He ordered a beer, I got a margarita. Whoa, now that's a margarita! She was very generous with the tequila. I'm not a drinker, so I had to pace myself. Still a bit thirsty, I decided to have another - bad idea (for me at least). The second one knocked me on my ass! I was done for the rest of the day And night! What can I say, I'm a light-weight. LOL! I'll go back for the food next time, but will order just one margarita. :) I only gave 4 stars because I didn't expect to get drunk off of two drinks.

This place was a blast from the past. WHen I walked in I thought i had been transformed into the 1990's. the decore and atmosphere was definitely from the 90's and it was dark but nonetheless their food is pretty good. The chips were warm, the salsa was good, I got the carne asada burrito and they automatically put enchilada sauce on it without an extra charge. The dish came with rice and beans and guac. What more can you ask for?

Tequila galore. Margarita's too, both Cadillac and regular. Maybe they have food, not sure. Plenty. To. Drink. Awesome plus is it's very close to second run movie theater, The Academy, where you can laugh at normally unfunny movies, but you're amazingly drunk so all bets are off.

My fiance' and I go here weeknights for a late night outing and always are pleased. We were here last night and the waiter suggested their Cadillac Margarita (which I had not previously tried but am glad I did!!!) DAMN! It didn't taste strong or overly tequila'd it was yummy. However, after drinking about 1/3 of this potent drink I was flying high and feeling loose!!! Lets just say...we had a great time during and AFTER Amigo's. Their food is good, Camarones A La Diabla is VERY good and their chicken quesadilla appetizer can serve as a full meal.

Been coming here for years. Top dishes I love: -Camarones al Mojo de Ajo (Garlic Shrimp): chunks of garlic on seasoned shrimp, rice and beans, slices of tomato and avocado. Your choice of flour or corn tortillas (for this dish, I get flour. Don't hate.) -Camarones a la Diabla. Can you tell I'm a shrimp lover? Some tips: -Check out the specials on the chalkboard outside the entrance to the dining area before you order. Missed it? Don't worry it's on an even bigger chalkboard right in front of you when you're waiting to be seated. -Try the Jamaica (Hibiscus) drink. -Ask for Habanero salsa (more flavorful and more hot than the house salsa). -If there's no parking in the back, park in the lot across the street (the eBay store, Firestone, a windows and doors place) they don't ticket, I promise. -Get wasted off the Margaritas! The BF and I always compare other place's Margaritas to see if they are up to par with Amigo's. Usually they aren't. -Laugh at the drunk people staggering their way to the bathroom in the back. Hilarious. -Awesome music from the jukebox never ceases to pleasantly surprise me while I'm here. Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, Sade, Santana to name a few. OH, and whenever I'm here, there's always that ONE table with about 10 people from CalTech. How can I tell? You just can...trust.

If you are looking for good food and good service, this is not the place. Not only did out appetizer never come but we had to get up to get our own refills and silverware. Upon speaking with the "manager", he only provided lame excuses such as"we have a lot of orders coming in". Unfortunately no attempt to rectify our less the satisfying experience was made. I do not recommended this place, not will I be back! I'm sure there are plenty of better options for Mexican good is Pasadena! Steer clear of Amigos! Ps after complain to the manager no one ever came to are table to check on us till the check

This is THE Mexican Restaurant to be at. Although my friends come here usually for good drinks, we have tried their food. Food is not amazing, but it's good. Authentic. It'd be nice if they prepared it a better way. For example if the Chicken and Steak Quesadillas were less greasy or if they cleaned the shrimp before putting them in your shrimp cocktail. The give you tortilla chips and salsa with whatever you get which is good because the salsa is really good. I am also a fan of their guacamole. It's prepared like I would've made it at home. The highlight of this Restaurant, in my opinion, has to be the margaritas. Prepared on the rocks (Really strong) or blended with a variety of flavors. They cost about $8 but are big. I have so many good times here because it's not located in an are that's really busy. Parking lot is small but you should find plenty of parking on the streets. You'll find me here on Sunday nights!

Their $8.00 margarita's are the best! Very strong and large! Nice cool, dark light dinning room and bar area. I love to go there and watch a game and eat my food. Last time i was there, i had the Cheese enchilada, Tamale, and Chile relleno. Very tasty and filling, that was only meal for the day, so I was very content with their portion sizes. Their Guacamole is one of the best in town. Yummy! I'm salivating just thinking about it.

A small, cozy, sit-down, family style restaurant with attached bar. The service is fast, friendly, and attentive. Like many others have mentioned, the margaritas kick ass. Unlike some others, I think the food is pretty decent, generally. Of course, I'm a gringo, and I enjoy Americanized Mexican food, which is mostly what they serve here. I don't have any problems with it whatsoever. Besides, after a couple of power-packed margaritas, who really cares anyway? Essentially, this place is a smaller, quieter, grittier, mom & pop version of El Coyote. I'll give them three stars for the food, and another for the service and cocktails.

MARGARITAS! Amigo's has amazing $8 margaritas, it honestly doesn't get better than that ( Dona Rosa's $2 margaritas are incredibly disgusting compared to Amigo's). Although I'm not a huge fan of their food. I recently tried their cheese quesadilla and it was too greasy for my liking. I can't really comment on the rest of their menu items as I happen to be a Mexican who dislikes Mexican food (I know right?). Anyways, their chips and salsa are a must try!

The worst Mexican restaurant i've been to in a long time!! The food tasted like it came straight out of a can! The salsa tasted like it was from a jar. The chips were paper thin. Extremely bland tasting flan which was black on top from burned caramel. The service was horrible too!! they were sooo slow to help us. We waited for a good while staring at the staff, waiting and waiting for a server to approach our table, AND the margaritas were nasty..they were way too harsh and burned our throats...we didn't even drink them and our server did not take them off the check... NEVER coming back to this restaurant again!!! :( STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!

Went to Amigos for lunch. The carne asada burrito is good. The carne asada was marinated pretty well. The fountain drinks were also pretty good. Good amount of carbonation, never flat. I recommend to try the mexican pizza if you guys visit this place. Friendly service and average price. Too bad there isn't a mariachi band during lunch time. Seems like a nice and cozy place to go to for lunch or dinner. Would like to go back to see how's the atmosphere is around dinner time.

Definitely, the best Mexican food in the San Gabriel Valley, though you would not be able to tell from the exterior! The parking is pretty much nonexistant, but don't illegally park, else you will seek the wrath of Pasadena Parking enforcement. My brother introduced me to the wonder of Amigo's Restaurant, and I can't get enough! This place, quite possibly has the strongest Magaritas that I've ever had in my life. The bartender doesn't hold back on the alcohol, and the drinks are reasonably priced. This restaurant is also a great place for parties!

Uhh....I don't really know how to rate this place. I have never eaten here, and I really can't believe anyone does. What this place does well is get you really messed up in one drink or less. On at least two occasions I thought I would be safe and only have one drink and instead went home wasted. I don't know if I can say that's a good thing, but if you are looking to get drunk and save cash this is your place.

  • Maurice Desi F.

I'll just start this off by saying that if you think you've had the best margarita you've ever had, go to Amigo's and I'm willing to bet that you'd change your mind. One of their fantastic margaritas not only taste good, but it more than does what it's supposed to do. As for the food, it's very good. I usually get the chicken taco/ chicken enchilada combination plate and I never leave unfulfilled. There's usually no wait when I go as well...which is an added bonus. I strongly suggest that you try them out. You'll thank me later.

I miss you Amigo's :( I used to live in Pasadena, and Amigo's was the go-to Mexican restaurant. If it was two of us, we would get two (or more!) margaritas, and split the fiesta platter (in the appetizer section). And that was plenty of food, and you got a little of everything for a cheap price. It only took one margarita to have a slight buzz, and the food was so yummy. My only *small* complaint (and the only reason for the 4 stars) is the parking. They have a tiny parking lot for about four cars behind the building, otherwise it's street parking, and that can be hard to find at times. Now, in the valley, I am on the hunt for my new Amigo....

Unless ur in Mexico, Mexican food in California is... OK... I guess. Every Mexican place I've been to has ur typical standard dishes.. enchiladas, tortilla soup and so on. With that said I belive that Amigo's is a good interpretation of ur typical Mexican joint. The service is always attentive. They welcome any substitutions and the cadillac margarita is legit!! I really enjoy this place everytime i go.... which is more often than not.

wow-we! MANGO margaritas! yum-yum! I had a torta(mexican sandwich) carne asada, which was the special of the night and it was ok, but my friend had a wet burrito and that was really good. The server was a delight and that's important. The restaurant also has a bar so that's great for the area its in.

Oh Amigos, how I do still love you, even after that fateful night, years ago, when your margaritas made me do some crazy, crazy things...... But we don't have to talk about that. GREAT RESTUARANT. Should be open 24/7, but they close their doors for at least 6 hours a day, I think to keep people from overdosing on alcohol. Their margaritas will knock you out--this is a PROMISE. Start with one--halfway through, you're a bit jiggly already. Their food is tasty and fresh, authentic Mexican in my opinion. The service is great, attentive, watchful, friendly, and willing to please. Love this place, but (scary voice) bbeewwaaree thhee marrrggarriittasss!!!!!! :)

OHHH MANGO MARGARITA, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! Margaritas are so amazing here, I'm willing to drive all the way there just for one of them slushy goodness :) Food was good too. Carne asada steak and shrimp enchiladas were hot and fresh.

Excellent place for a Cadillac Margarita. Drink two and someone will have to wheel you home. I don't have much to say other than to recommend their excellent margaritas. And it looks like I can simply agree with what many other people have said: "solid four stars for an excellent Pasadena dive", and "do people really eat here?"

Came here on a friday night, it was pretty dead with a couple sitting down at one table and someone at the bar. Even with an empty place it still took forever to get help from our waiter. The food however did come out very quickly on a extremely large plate. We were pretty hungry and both unable to finish out food. I was looking forward to having some good spanish rice but the rice that came with my dish was extremely dry and left me disappointed. I probably wont be back to this place unless a friend wanted to try.

I started going to Amigos when I was a student at Caltech. It is the closest bar to campus... :) Earlier this year after the 3rd Eye Blind Concert I stopped here afterward and ran into many many Techers. This is def a nostalgic spot for me. The food is ok, but the highlight of Amigo's is the maragaritas, which are super strong and delicious. The servers are attentive and its easy to find parking along the street. Amigos is a sweet local spot for having a few drinks and catching up with friends.

amigo's makes me feel so ambivalent. some of their items like their fresh guacamole, spicy salsa, super-moist tamale shells (masa), garlic-flavored spanish rice, and refried beans are five-star quality. others things like their kinda stale chips, rancid oil in their deep-fryer (which made for a nasty chile relleno), boiled flavorless chunks of pork, and overuse of cheese got me thinking two stars. but the few excellent items on the menu and super-friendly service make this place worth it. not my first choice for a meal but when there are slim-pickings, it sure beats the hell outta fast food....

Beneath the drab exterior of a small building on the corner of Colorado Blvd and Wilson Ave sits Amigo's Restaurant, a place that serves some damn fine Mexican food. Amigo's has been a favorite of mine for quite some time. I work just a few blocks away, visit frequently and can honestly say I've never had a bad experience. The food would rank as very good, doesn't quite reach great, but way better than an El Torito or Acapulco's. The place isn't too busy and the food comes out quick. The enchiladas, chimichangas, Mexican pizzas all hit the spot like not many Mexican food places do. It's not fresh Mex type food and its a little heavy, but that's the way I prefer my Mexican food. I also have not tried their Margaritas or any mixed drinks, but their bottled beer contained no shards of glass or dead mice, so thumbs up there! If you're in the Pasadena area and feel the need to have some good Mexican food (that you or your stomach may regret later), you can't get much better than Amigo's!

Aaaaaaah Amigos...where the margaritas flow strongly and freely. This is Americanized Mexican food, but it is damn satisfying and the prices are great. I have always shared a pitcher of margaritas with friends and we always seem to squeeze a few more margaritas out of it then what it looks like it holds. And they are strong. For the food, everything I have had is pretty good. Enchiladas are decent, tacos are good. I always order their Albondigas soup and add avocado. Its a huge serving and it tastes like my mom's. The definite stand out on the menu though is the ceviche. I think its really good quality and you get a goblet full- these aren't those tiny, persnickety portions where everyone gets one chips worth. Its big enough that you could eat it for a light dinner.

Two words: Killer Margaritas!! My neighbor told me about this place. So a friend and I went to try it out! We ordered some appetizers; nacho and quesadillas. Nothing out of the extraordinary. They were OK. When they brought us the Cadillac Margaritas we ordered... wow... We ended up leaving Amigo's at their closing time. Pretty good margaritas I must say... The servers were really nice and the service was great but I'm only rating Amigo's with 4 stars cause the restrooms were not clean and there were any T.P.

I give this place 4 stars because nothing can beat the margaritas from Las Casuelas in La Quinta! The margaritas here are really good here though! Everything is great here! This is my boyfriend's go to place for everything! This is usually at the top of the list when deciding where to go for dinner, where to have a party for someone's birthday, going away dinner, friends visiting from out of town, etc... The food is excellent and the atmosphere is nice and casual. It's definitely one of my favorite Mexican food places in the Los Angeles area. One thing that I dislike about this place - I asked for a side of sour cream, and they charge extra. That bothered me... I put sour cream on all the Mexican food I eat!

Alright, I used to come here all the time, years ago, for a few drinks after work. As others have said, drinks are strong. I wasn't into the food back then, but I've been here now 3 times in the last 2 months, and the food has improved. Except these happened the last 3 times: 1) We ordered take out, lunch chicken fajita salads, which are pretty good, except they charged us for chicken fajita's, which is a lot more expensive. We figured it was a simple misunderstanding, had them correct it and paid the right price. 2) A group of us went here after the CD Swap, as it's the only Mexican kitchen open until Midnight in Pasadena. Our bill came out to $100 for 4 people, except the bill was really only $70, with an extra $30 out of no where. We pointed it out, was corrected, not a problem. 3) I just came back from picking up enchiladas (which are very good) and I noticed it was cheese enchilada $5 + 2 chicken enchilada $10 = $22 after taxes. Huh? Yup, an extra $5 in the tab. 3 different times, different staff people, each had extra money added on to the bill. Either the entire staff are extremely poor at math, or they are upset at "the man" and are trying to recoup, or are just dirty people. I'm leaning towards dirty since I remember the stuff that used to go on here when I went there before - and you don't want to know. So, good food, but as soon as that bill comes, examine it and make sure you're charged for the RIGHT meal and make sure they don't throw in an extra $30 charge, which can be hard late night after drinking those strong drinks! Oh, and their bar totally over-serves people - which is illegal. Cool for those being over-served though - bad for the people who have to deal with them.

Let me tell you what to expect: a total dive fun bar with regulars from *all walks of life* excellent shredded chicken tostadas excellent blended margaritas strong on the rocks margaritas almost always fast, good service Park on the street - there is a tiny back parking lot but those spots are usually taken.

never been here before,my sister wanted to try it so we did. The service was excellent, the waiter was personable, friendly and helpful. The cadillac margarita was enjoyed by 3 of my co diners. I had a chicken tostado, very good, others at my table enjoyed the meat ball soup, fajita salad, chile rellenos and cheese enchiladas. I would return

    I liked their chicken tacos! And their burgers - yes, I did eat burgers at a Mexican restaurant. I'd highly recommend the burgers. {I went out with friends and wasn't in the mood for Mexican food, so I opted to try the burgers. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. }

Great Margaritas! One is plenty. Great food and good service. I've been there twice now, and neither time was the restaurant too busy -- which is a shame given their good food and drinks. Definitely would recommend this place to anyone.

Good food. Good prices. Good service. What else is there in a restaurant? From the outside it looks like a little hole in the wall, but once you get in there, you realize it is a hole in the wall, as are all mexican restaurants worth their weight in rice & beans. Their meat is always flavorful and tender, their drinks are strong and tasty, and you can tell someone really tried with the decorations. Tried. This place will not disappoint.

I went here with a friend last week for a late dinner and drinks, loved it! It's not much to look at, but the service was great and I really enjoyed my meal. We started with Margaritas that are silly strong. It felt like I was drinking straight from a bottle of tequila! I had the carne asada taco meal and it was absolutely delicious. This place is relatively inexpensive and yummy. The added bonus is it's located right across the street from a movie theater, which is where we went to sober up!

Amigos is cool. if your looking for a place to get some decent food without waiting too long and paying up the ass then Amigos is the place. You cant beat the prices I've gotten dinner for the whole family for like $30. If you are looking for something more exotic then go somewhere else. Amigos menu is pretty basic Mexican American style cooking, nothing too spicy or regional. Just good comfort food. The place has lots of space so if you have a large party its great place to go. The staff are very kind and family friendly. I've been coming here since I was a wee man and it hasn't changed much and hopefully wont in the future.

This is a good spot in Pasadena for delish Mexican food and a Strong Margarita (or more if you can take it). I usually get the Machaca plate and I Love It. The rice and beans are to my liking also. Then I steal pieces of M's Carnitas and my taste buds to a little happy dance. The salsa is flavorful with a little spicy kick! The service is friendly and quick. Atmosphere is fine and the bathrooms are clean. What else can I say? Go!!

Came here a few nights ago and omg I hated it hated it wanted to go home bad service took the waitress about 30 mins ,give or take a few, to take our order kept saying she was Gonna refill our drinks yet had to ask another employe because she was taking to long but I give it 2 stars instead of one because I kind of felt bad for them since a large group of loud and obnoxious ghetto "people" came in and there were only 2 waiters/waitresses for the whole place but the ghetto pack of low lifes were extremely Loud nasty ugly hoochie thug outfits practically barking at our ears eh not coming back

Super dug this spot. It's a good place for large groups. Our waiter "Ferrrrnando" is "muy excelente!!" He made great recommendations and always had something witty and cute to say. I especially like how he embarrassed me when he told me I had something on my face and came back with "it's you're pretty smile". Chow! I'm glad he made that commentary before our second pitcher of Margaritas. As a matter of fact I'm surprised I remember that after my first one! Those Margaritas can really do a number on you so BEWARE. First, they're super strong and second, I'm sure they use cheap tequila because I had the worst hang over I've had in a decade! For dinner I had the lovely Chile relleno plate. They're quite large so one should be good enough; rice and beans are also really good. My friend had a chicken chimichanga and it was not good. So "Ferrrrrnado" asked if she wanted something else but she was cool. He didn't have to do this but he took it off our bill; we thought that was super sweet. We definitely plan to come around more often for good service and good food.

Good Mexican food at decent pricing for large portions... Parking in the rare and on the streets. This place is always busy during dinner time. I recommend the lunch specials. There's a large bar and a jukebox, which equals a good time.

Wow, super service and super fast. I was there about 2 hours ago. It took 5 minutes to seat me, 5 minutes to get my Cadillac margarita (tasted great), chips and salsa, and less than 10 minutes to get my steak burrito. The burrito was delicious and service was great. Definitely recommend this place!!

Best Mexican food I have personally experienced in Pasadena. Amigos is my favorite place to go for an intoxicating margarita and scrumptious food. I have recently moved out of Pasadena, and I think this is honestly one of the main places I will miss. I have only sat on the bar side of this establishment, and every bartender and server I have ever encountered is wonderful. The drinks are always strong and the food is always great. Top picks on the menu, Carne asada plate, and the Carnitas plate. Both are large enough portions for two to share. They have great chips and salsa, and have no problems refilling if you ask nicely. The crowd can be obnoxious at times, once had a girl approach my boyfriend and asked him to refill her glass with some of our pitcher of margaritas. (Honey, where did you leave your manners?) But, I honestly think all is forgiven for the quality of food and service. The prices are reasonable, considering the portions, the juke box has a nice variety of music, and the bathrooms are clean. What more can you ask for? Amigo's I will miss you, and I will forever compare Mexican restaurants to your superior standards.

You know, it was tough giving this place three stars! As I write this very sentence I'm tempted to go back and change it to a two star. My girlfriend and I decided to go here after a night at the Ice House Comedy Club. I wanted to like this place, I like the area, so it would've been great if this place hit the spot. Here goes the review. So we go in and are immediately seated, the place isn't that busy, yet we got a front row seat to the door leading into the bathroom! The place is odd in the sense that the lighting from the front of the restaurant is different than the back. I felt like I was eating in a cheap cafeteria. Zip ambiance, ok fine, maybe the food will blow me away! Chips and salsa immediately hit the table, and I try the salsa. It's more of a pico de gallo. Chopped up ingredients, almost on the sweet side. I asked the waiter if he'd be kind enough to bring me some of the spicy stuff. He did so, right away, and I can honestly say, it was bad. It had good heat, but the flavor was off. The problem with smaller non-corporate restaurants is usually consistency, so this salsa probably tastes different from day to day depending on who's making it. (I assume they make it themselves) Soon after, our entrées arrive! They were good! The nachos; good sauce, cheese, and really good seared carne asada! Finished off in the broiler to give the chips that extra crunch and caramelize the cheese a bit. The burrito was also pretty good. It came with beans and rice, both not bad, the rice wasn't as good as the beans. The burrito itself was pretty yummy, again, good carne asada! It had a red sauce on it, with a bit of melted cheese. Overall, it was the atmosphere that killed it for me. I know I know, what's atmosphere have to do with good food?! Sometimes a lot! The sad part is, It wouldn't take much money to up the look of this place. Just dim the lights! The service was good and fast for the most part. We didn't have to ask for refills on drinks or chips, they were on it. If anyone from Amigos is reading this...you've got a gold mine on your hands, it won't take much, ambiance is all relative!

After moving to Pasadena two years ago, my husband and I began our hunt for good mexican food in the area. Unfortunately we have been only mildy impressed with mijares, el cholo, etc...that is until we went to Amigos Cantina! Dont let the ugly exterior deter you from enjoying great service, great food, and excellent margaritaS! I ordered the chili verde burrito (excellent) and my husband ordered your standard chicken taco and enchilada. We both ordered 1 margarita each and were buzzed on our mile walk home. A buzz for $6 each? Not too shabby! We will definitely be going here again.

Good solid Mexican food. Came here for lunch with coworkers and I would definitely come back without hesitation. For four of us we had two pitchers of Cadillac Margarita's and they were good and strong. Each pitcher worked out to be a glass for each of us. I had the carnitas sopes and the carnitas (which I am very picky about) were juicy and flavorful. The chips and salsa were spot on too. It's everything you could ask for in a Mexican restaurant.

I really enjoy this place because of the food and the decor. Very spacious inside and comfortable leather booth seats. I like big juicy burritos are my favorite food, does it well. The only place nearby that does it better is Armandos in San Gabriel. Margaritas are expensive though. If you like Mexican food, go to this place.

To be honest, I didn't really have a full meal here. This review pertains to the bar area as that is where I sat and mostly just drank. I ended up here because a friend invited me out for a drink and I really wanted a margarita, I looked on Yelp and this place had decent reviews. When I walked in the dinning room was pretty empty so I made my way back to the bar. Within an hour the small bar was full of people. The waiter, although busy, offered decent service, very polite. I ordered a margarita which was large and very strong. I split a chicken quesadilla with a friend, it was pretty tasty. The chips and salsa leave a little something to be desired, not the best I've had. They have a great jukebox, with everything from Malo and Trio Los Panchos to Tom Petty and The Rolling Stones. And, I didn't have to wait all night to hear my songs. If you travel out of your way to come to this place, you're probably not going to like it. But if you live locally and don't want to deal with Old Town traffic (and prices and yuppies), come here for a good time.

  • Consuelo D.

Have only been here during lunch time, its pretty big and almost empty which is nice and quiet. The food isn't spectacular and the horchata is nothing more than cloudy tap water :( The 3 stars are for the reasonable prices, portion sizes, and the service speed. They serve the food so fast its great! They had the Brazil v N Korea while I was there which was great to watch as I ate. I probably won't go back unless I have to, the construction out on the street was almost knocking things over it was so loud and vibrating the entire restaurant. Oh and parking isn't all that convenient either, I don't think I have ever seen those spaces in the back empty.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
