Outside of NYC I've never been to a deli. This place easily takes me back to my NYC vacation. It's a small spot that can get packed fast. Went on a beautiful sun filled Sunday, the beach was packed and so was Colombo's. I haven't tried any sandwiches because I just buy the ingredients to make my own and the bread's and meats I get from them are always fresh, delicious and of the highest quality. They have a nice selection of Italian fare. If I wasn't so in love and so close to SF, I could visit this place a lot. Still it's a place I plan to visit again.

This is a great place to pick up some wine, cheese and deli snacks. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they have a great selection.

I live in the East Bay but grew up in Pacifica and grew accustomed to loving the Colombo's Deli Sandwiches. The qualify the the breads, meats, and cheese has always be spectacular. I realize this even more now since I still haven't been able to find another deli around my home in the East Bay that can even compare to this place. The times I do need to run errands around the peninsula or SF, I try to schedule in a Colombo's stop to satisfy my craving. You should too!

i love their sandwiches but just know that the wait is long on weekends. i find it helpful to call in the morning and preorder your sandwich.

Arguably the best italian sandwich deli in the Bay Area. Between the quality bread and meats, the variety of sandwiches, excellent soups, and a quirky selection of European groceries and sweets, it is a memorable and unique place. We love to get a couple sandwiches to go (always get one Godfather) on the way to Stern Grove for a free show or a day at the beach. It's well worth getting out of the city if you've got a craving for the best sandwich around.

Yah! So authentic! Reminds me of a deli in NYC. I get the Philadelphia sand which every time. Hands down the best on the menu, and I have had them all! Lol! Chicken parmesan is also to die for! Family owned and run! Run to get a sandwich!

Everything was spectacular! Not too pricey and definitely large portions.

Decent sandwich, good ingredients but needs more interesting combinations/ unique sauces.

I think they got rid of the not so fabulous customer service lady and incompetent sandwichmakers that I complained about in my original review. All my orders in the past 3 years have been perfectly made. Try my standard order for more than 15 years, and you won't be disappointed: Combo Ham and Peppered Salami with everything and White Sharp Cheddar Cheese on Sourdough Roll! Damn it, I'm drooling and I won't be able to get my Columbo's fix until Saturday. Woe is me!

    I'm a turkey/swiss on sourdough fan. But when I tried my husband's pastrami/swiss on dutch crunch...yummy!!!

I'll tell you what. A deli this good only comes along once in a lifetime. I used to live in Pacifica and had the pleasure of trying the sandwiches here for the first time when I was in high school. Now I've tried countless deli sandwiches at countless locations and while some have come close to measuring up, I have never had a sandwich better than colombos. I like classic deli sandwiches and who doesn't? Forget all that toasted sandwich garbage and get a fresh deli sandwich here. Expect to wait, because this place isn't a hidden gem. It's a known location, where anyone like me who knows what this place has to offer will be back for more again and again. And I've been here enough times to write off any negative review you read here because those people don't know what a true Italian style deli should provide and this place does. Colombos is number one in my book and is don't see it changing any time soon.

Love this deli. 1. They have such a wide range of sandwiches that come in one size...HUGE! 2. My favorite sandwich is the steak sandwich with added pesto, garlic and avocado. YUM! Between my boyfriend and I, we have tried every sandwich on the menu and everything is worth trying. Customizing sandwiches is fun too! 3. The bread is made fresh daily 4. Wide range of meats and cheese. 5. Excellent customer service. Every person working there is amazing and super nice. 6. They also take phone orders, which is really nice when trying to avoid weekend lines and wait time.

Best place ever!!!! So nice, amazing sandwiches, and so much better than the stupid sandwich chains. Ham and Brie panini is a must! A little gem in Pacifica. And did I mention their meat is boars head?!!! The best, but hard to find in CA!!!!

I ordered the Boston Grinder sandwich and the Bread is very good here. I believe it's made fresh here. The meats are excellent but there put too much Mayo on my sandwich but i realized after i ordered this sandwich it comes w/lots of mayo and says that on the menu.which is I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars, however I will come back and try different sandwiches since they have a huge selection. Lots of other Italian goodies here.

Colombo's Deli has the feel of a small town deli. The youthful staff will make you a generous sandwich, with no need to stay stuck in one spot while they do it. They seem to encourage wandering, allowing you to browse their interesting selection of European goods for sale. I ordered a club sandwich on Dutch Crunch with avocado. It was so huge that I could have easily saved about half of it for later, but I succumbed to my inner fat kid and ate the whole thing in one go. This is a great place to pick up a quick, quality deli sandwich if you're in Pacifica. They also make fresh pastas, and it's a perfect place to get Italian meats and other European goodies.

The wife and I walked in while on a Saturday adventure. While reviewing the menu red flags popped up left and right, every employee preparing foods handle cash and went right back to preparing food without washing their digits "disgusting... Might I say we exited stage left!

I decided to take a drive out to the beach today and found this place on yelp. I was super pleased with this spot. At first I was a little nervous when I saw that they use the old "take a number" routine for pecking order. However, they moved quickly through the lineup and I was able to order, pay and walk out the door in less than 10 minutes. The sandwich I got (Hobb's Gobbler; turkey with havarti, wasabi mayo and the fixins on dutch crunch) was excellent and ENORMOUS! Glad to know I've got an ace in the whole next time I'm in Pacifica and it's sandwich time.

Delicious, just moved to California from Boston. In Boston we have the North End and some really great food. This place is second to none as far as the quality of the sandwich. If you want a great deli sandwich you can't go wrong.

Awsome sandwich delicatessen! Sandwiches actually feel, look and taste as if you grabbed the sandwich out a a picture. The sandwiches are huge so I normally eat half for lunch and half for dinner. Everything inside the deli looks and probably tastes delicious AND...its all affordable! I love it here! I come here once a week with my boyfriend as a thank you gift to ourselves after a long work week! Well worth it! Tip: Come before 10:30 or 11am otherwise you will have to deal with the busy lunch crowd.

  • Annie S.

Awesome Salame!! I was in search of a new salame after Whole Foods discontinued my favorite brand. The counter guy gave loads of samples of various kinds to help me find the right one. He was really patient, considering I have a very picky taste. Found a perfect Boars Head salame!

Very good sandwiches. None of that slimy processed turkey and none of that horrible bread from a plastic bag. Well worth the stop.

  • Femita J.

I love these sandwiches and am ruined for other delis now. The service is quite cheerful for foggy Pacifica and the workers seem quite content to be there! The ingredients are fresh and flavorful and made with attentive care. Go outside of rush hours (lunchtime, after-work) because this place tends to be busy/popular which slows things down. Update 2013: Still loving this place and the workers are so attentive and nice too.

I'm a hard-core serious sandwich connoisseur, and after trying many, many places over the past 12 years, Colombo's remains my top sandwich pick for the whole Bay Area. Incredibly friendly and pleasant staff, and the sandwiches are priced extremely well. You will never be disappointed.

  • Iman M.

Great sandwiches. They are not messing around - good portions - but not too big. The only downside is that they seem a bit short staffed - some times the wait can be a little long. But if you go in there knowing what to expect, you're going to walk out happy.

What a great find. Family owned. Let's keep them in business cuz it would be a real shame to lose this gem.

Best deli on the planet. I have looked everywhere, no other deli comes close. And the Rocky 1(secret menu, only Emil will know how to make it.) is the greatest sandwich in existence.

  • Karin B.

we came during a busy time for it took forever to get our food. if some of the staff worked instead of chatting up the customers might have been quicker. but its cool that they want to establish a relationship with the customer. the atmosphere is warm and friendly. the foods great. and theres a wide variety to choose from or you can "build" your own. pretty neat. However when I finaly got my sandwich it was very bland.

  • J.P. H.

Very cool place as I just moved down the street and I love the old school deli feel. The menu is full of a lot of choices and I wish I could have sampled more in one sitting. I had the dutch crunch with turkey and it was very very good. It was a little confusing at first as I forgot to take a number and had to wait a little bit longer but that was my fault. So be sure you take a number.

  • Kody S.

If your in the area this is a great deli. They have so many choices is can seem overwhelming your 1st time in but dnt worry they have great staff that is very helpful and knowledgable. I never knew how many different types of salami there are. Went in to order a simple salami sandwich and when the question came "what kind of salami do u want?" Was had to admit I wasn't really sure the lady who was taking my order was very helpful and suggested to differnt salami's i'd had never tried nor heard of before she got me a sample of both and fixed me up with both on my sandwich. I really enjoyed trying something new yet the same lol anytime I'm down in p-town I try and swing by for a new creation

Great Deli, Love all their sandwiches, everything fresh. Only one that needs improvement is their Vegy sandwich. It is great as long as you tell them no mustard just mayo, or very little mustard if you like. the problem is they smear so much yellow mustard on one side it makes that side of the role soggy and dominates everything so much you can't enjoy the great vegetables inside. Just say only mayo or very little dab of mustard for the Vegy Every time I forget the sandwich goes in the garbage. My Nikko hotel rep just brought us lunch from there today as a thank you for selling their great hotel in San Francisco. I told him just mayo, guess he forgot when ordering. Sigh....

We are visiting the town from San Diego. And luckly, We saw this deli for late breakfast. Went inside to check it out. If It was worth ; Amazing bread... (house baked) Fresh and good stuffings ... Very proper italian cold cuts .... Strongly recomended .... Great pricing by the way ...

  • Seong P.

I got the Philly Hoagie on bread that had just come out of the oven. It was delicious with lots of meat, cheese and condiments. I was there on the early side so I didn't have to wait. It's definitely a value in terms of how much food you get since one sandwich was 2 full meals but prices are higher than Little Lucca's and Darby Dan's. I think it's worth the trip.

  • Susy C.

This is the best sandwich spot, tucked away in the sleepy little town of Pacifica. I mean really, what else is there out here besides the Taco Bell on the beach? Anyway. The sandwiches are HUGE. i bow down to The Godfather. Oh, and here's a tip. When you first walk in, grab a number from the ticket machine. It's on a column on the left hand side of the entryway. Yes, you have to get a ticket even if you want to buy bread. And please, don't eat the salame hanging from the ceiling. THOSE ARE MINE. just kidding.

I haven't been in here for about 2 years and was eager to taste their sammy. As they only got 1 size only, you only now gotta pick the specialties sandwiches with no problem. Walked up to the counter before 11:15 am is best to avoid the busy lunch crowds on the weekdays. My order was a no nonsense 3 club sandwiches, 1 with homemade dutch crunch and the other 2 with homemade sourdough everything. Waiting was not bad for about 10 minutes as there was 5 other people in front of me. The club sandwich on the sourdough roll was stuffed full of turkey ,ham, bacon, cheese, & all the veggie trimmings. Sandwiches are large enough to split and share, but no one ever does in my office!! Bread was absolutely fresh and truly a excellent sign that they take great care and pride in the delicatessen. Also excellent selection of Italian food product like pasta, condiments, cheeses, cold cuts and prepare foods.

On Saturdays, they have a chicken parm sandwich - YUM! And the sandwiches are HUGE, I had enough for lunch and another meal. Will be back to try their other hot sandwiches as well as some of their italian meats.

Best Italian deli in the bay area! I'm almost hesitant to leave a great review because I don't want it to be taken over by hipster foodies.

LOVE THIS PLACE! The only thing I can say is everything that I've tasted on the menu thus far has been great! The dutch crunch I highly recommend! The only drawback to this place as most of you know is how busy it can get. Other than that...I think it's definitely worth the wait.

Colombo's has been around since 1986 so that's say something already. If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend stopping in and getting yourself an authentic deli sandwich.

My family's been buying sandwiches here for years and years &years. I've always gotten The Godfather--tons of meat, and especially complimented by the artichoke inside. Large and i think worth the price. and always a favorite to eat during hikes! i order by phone but the wait is terribly long :/ ((side note: you can request soft bread. but i've grown to love the way crunchy french bread cuts up the roof of my mouth. wahooo!!!)))

  • Tanya S.

Excellent food and sandwiches! I'm a Chef and went to culinary school in Philly. This place reminds me of an old school Italian Hoagie shop in South Philadelphia (think the scene in Rocky where he runs through a neighborhood with street vendor s selling fruits and veggies) Def will be back Reasonable prices too. In the to cool for school -hipster "gourmet ghetto" Mission in SF, these sandwiches would cost like $15

I love Colombos, but their wait and service has become absolutely glacial. Last weekend we picked up 2 sandwiches and the wait was over 40 minutes. Infuriating. Service is so slow and the teen workers seem to work with no sense or urgency. Why not have a cashier who can ring people up while they wait? That would expedite things quite a bit. No ability to call in our order because the phone is either busy or just rings and rings with no answer. Great sandwiches, but not worth the wait.

Okay, so I'm committed to spending my entire Saturday relocating my MIL back to her apartment, after being in rehab (not that kind, physical therapy center). At least I deserve a good sandwich, don't you think? As others have said this is an old timey place. They make their own wonderful bread, and source great meats. They take so long though! They need to bring some efficiency to their system. Have one person working the register and taking orders, instead of giving your order to someone (in my case what looked to be a pretty inexperienced young man) who then makes your sandwiches, and finally (15 mins later) returns and takes your payment. Also, would like to have seen more handwashing going on between taking money and making the next sandwich. Okay enough complaining. I'm back for what is probably my 25th lifetime visit, so clearly I like it. I got two ham and cheeses (for my MIL and hubby) and a roast beef with cheddar for me. The rolls, in our case one each sour dough, sweet French, and dutch crunch, were so fresh, and the meats and cheeses were good. The two with mayo were too scantly dressed, but the deli mustard on my roast beef was great. It's a throw back, with long wait times and slow production, but fun, good and well priced.

The plaza is kind of trashy but the shop isn't! We received really warm service and loved our sandwich and soup. We had the Godfather sandwich with added garlic spread, which was generously packed with their prosciutto and salami and the perfect portion for the two of us to share for a late lunch. The garlic spread was definitely a good idea; it was strong and extremely creamy. Might even ask/pay for double garlic spread next time because I am such a fan! We also shared the Italian wedding soup, which they were kind enough to split into two containers for us without us even asking. I was hoping to try their potato, kale, and Italian meatball soup but that wasn't available today, and I ended up really enjoying the wedding soup anyway. It was hearty, flavorful, and served piping hot. They also had Tomato basil soup. Plaza probably isn't going to win "America's most charming" anytime soon but it is home to an amazing deli, and I will definitely be back! Can't wait to try their ravs and compare to La Villa in Willow Glen.

The next best thing to Arizimendi's bakery in SF! Their sour dough baguette is delicious. And their cinnamon rolls are out of this world. I would give this place a five stars but like others have said the "wait time" is a little out of control. I've waited up to 30 minutes for a sour dough baguette!

  • Lost B.

I am pretty disappointed. I can deal with the even longer waits because of the lame shlep rockers and aging hipsters who have swarmed the deli because of great reviews. I am happy that the deli is doing more business and even though I have been coming here longer then Yelp has been a website,I have always been happy with my food. Not this time. My sandwich looked like it was sat on by a elephant, meaning it was not as big as usual ,had no purple onions , had a sad small portabella that was only in half the sandwich, the mozzarella was not fresh ( dried out) and it had some different type of spread on it. It was like someone forgot how to make a rockaway. I usually get full with half of one of these, not today. Please dont sacrifice quality and a constant product because of the business rush. I will give you another chance because I am loyal to Colombo's and maybe it was an off day.

  • Kerry D.

Food is excellent but the service is slow, cumbersome & extremely inefficient. Better to have a couple of sandwich makers & a cashier. Each counter person takes the order, make the sandwich & then cashiers there own order, this causes so many wasted steps. 2 potential customers commented that the wait wasn't worth it & walked out, I don't think any of the counter persons even noticed. Plan on spending 15 minutes or more to get your order.

  • Aaron C.

The sandwich I always get is the Napoleon (prosciutto, sun dried tomatoes, pesto, cheese). It's a solid order, I suppose. They also have some good calamari and orzo that they have in their shop as well. My problem with them is their lack of customer service. They're not exactly a group of adults that are stoked about working there. Which I can understand, but it comes off as rude. But get this; they give me the impression that they want to get me in and out because they're so unwelcoming, yet they take a day and a half to prep the sandwich. But at the end of the day, it's still the coast. I'm there to enjoy the scenery, not some sluggish unwelcoming sandwich makers. Kill them with kindness and make small talk, it's hilarious to see them partake in conversation.

Complete East Coast deli. Great place to satisfy your desire for cured salted meats and bread. While these style deli's are on every corner of every town in the NYC area, they are a rarity everywhere else. Especially in California. I got the "godfather" which is pure heaven for prosciutto, salami and mortadella lovers. I've read that "chicken Parmesan" and the "meatball sub" are to die for. So if you are in the area. Stop by and indulge in a great deli meal. Oh and don't forget to grab a "Buddha Beer" from the frig. It's a classic with Buddha shaped on the bottle. True keep sake.

This is my go-to sandwich shop in the Daly City/Pacifica area. They can get pretty busy on the weekends, so much so that the phone rings for 5 minutes without being answered... But the wait is totally worth it. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and the food is always on point.

Me being a DELI God..... I'll let you soak that in. I'm an expert of Deli food, service, and operations. I've set up and worked in delis for a number of years during the beginning of my existence. Italian sandwich makers ask me for advice. It's what I do darlin'....... I give his place 1 stars, and that's for the food. Here's the break down. The food and selection is excellent. The shortcoming is the operations and organization. OPS... Upon stepping inside, CAN ANYONE decipher this spaghetti method of crap that is the organization of this place? Are there any signs or directions? No, there's a number dispenser if you look hard enough and a big board of a menu. If I've never been there before..... What do I do? (I live in Pacifica and this pisses me off every time. Second... Every worker is usually hiding behind a damn 6 foot deli case out of sight. No one greeting guests and no one at the register. If you have a number dispenser.... USE IT! Don't just ask the next person you see what they want when I've been holding my dumb number ticket for the last 10 mins and happen to be shorter than the tall bastard next to me that happens to peek over your deli case! Nobody has any idea how the ordering works and there's no place to obviously queue up. Please un-screw up this situation. Now.... The good. The FOOD and selection saves this place. More bad. The service... Who is in charge? Who do I pay? One of 6 young'ins has made my sandwich, but who takes my money?! Dang it... Take my money! Little hushed bird voices from behind the deli case are lost in a place with huge cooler fans and compressors. So I Yell it out! "Who do I give my F'ing money to!" Someone finally appears. And lastly.... Who in the hell closes a deli at 3 on a Sunday???? You're next to the damn beach. Save that for the holidays.

I had big expectations for this place based on the word of mouth referral. When I got there nothing really stood out on the menu. So, I figured since they were Italian and made their own meatballs I tried the meatball. It was just... A-OK. Nothing spectacular. Not juicy or flavorful really or anything. The staff was friendly. I will come back though to try some of their meat sauce and homemade raviolis though. I wonder how they compare to Luca Ravioli in the city.

  • Ellie O.

These sandwiches are crazy good! The bread they use is top notch and the sandwiches they offer are awesome!! Our current favorites are the Godfather and the Napoleon. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the wait. Holy moly do you have to wait a long time for these sandwiches!! So if you're in a rush I suggest doing a call ahead order.

    (4)

Bested, tastiest, thickest, most wonderfulest bacon on the peninsula! It's Christmas time at Colombo's. Come in and find your breads and other items too.

  • Meg W.

When I walked in, there were two people ahead of me, so it took about 10 minutes to be helped. I ordered two Manor sandwiches (~$10 each) and waited for about 20 more minutes. I asked one girl behind the counter (politely) about the sandwiches because I watched multiple people who ordered after me receive their meals and left already. She unapologetically responded with a very serious face, "well they're paninis so they take longer." As if it takes 30+ minutes to toast bread and warm meat/chs; especially considering I was the only customer left in there! After about 10 more minutes, my sandwiches were ready and I finally left (40 minutes total)... only to taste mediocre, bland sandwich. I lived in pacifica for many years and haven't been to this place for a long time. Now I remember why: unprofessional teen staff/service, forgettable food, moderate prices. There are so many better sandwich spots out there.

  • morgan v.

The other reviews noting the horrible, horrible service are random outliers. Whoever is managing this place is completely clueless -- with about six people working, they manage to turn out a sandwich every 8 minutes. In total. Add to that a number system they don't use, forgetting half of every order, not having any consistent process for ordering, paying and getting your food, and the fact that they're just serving regular Boar's Head-based deli sandwiches... Nope. Nope nope nope. We wasted an hour of our lives here, and we could've *literally* bought ingredients for, grilled and eaten steak sandwiches on a campfire at Mussel Rock before this place got us our lunch. Nope. Maybe this place used to be good (?), but it sure as hell ain't now. Hire a manager who knows how to run a retail business, maybe?

Colombo's Deli has got a HUGE variety when it comes to quality cheeses, meats, snacks, hot sandwiches, healthy choices, etc. A big plus is every time I visit, everyone is so nice and helpful! A++

This place has so much potential, but it suffers greatly due to the management: Extremely slow and indifferent service, no organization, no greeting. Somebody please get in there, take over, and make this what it can be. Cause the menu is good, the concept is good, and who doesn't love a family style Italian deli? Please, if the owners ever read their yelp, go visit La Villa Deli in Willow Glen, or Bay Cities Deli in Santa Monica for some pointers. Cause you are sitting on a potential gold mine.

Came here on fourth of July with my family and been hooked since ! Sure you wait a while but it's well worth it and such great service ! Also, I love their selection in the deli , I'll take this place over any sandwich shop in or around the bay area any day!

The main reason I'm writing this review is that there was no free water available for customers! The woman who made our sandwiches brought them to our table, which was nice, and asked if we needed anything else. At that point I asked for two waters because there was no cooler or faucet available for customers to self-serve. She told me that there is water (bottled, for purchase) in the fridge and walked away. Sorry, I'm not going to pay for water. Bottled water is probably the biggest scam in the history of capitalism. What a poor business practice!!! Instead of keeping customers happy with free tap water, they want to force us into buying bottled water. Also, to echo other reviews here, it is not obvious when you walk in that taking a number is necessary. I realize this is normal for delis, but you must understand most places do not work this way any more. If this is what you're doing, you need to make it VERY clear, otherwise customers stand there for minutes thinking you don't care about us. It's not surprising to read that some people just leave. I'd suggest changing these things or people will just go to Quiznos or wherever for a crappier sandwich but a more predictable customer experience.

Don't be put off by the long lines, there's a reason for them. The sandwiches are fantastic. I'm never disappointed with the quality and portion size, and the friendliness of the expert sandwich makers. They serve Boar's Head meats and they bake their own bread to maintain quality and freshness. Favorites are the Tomaso's Special, Lt. Colombo, and you can't go wrong with the Meat Ball Sub. They also have a selection of Italian imported ingredients, fresh pastas and sauces they I have yet to try. The deli case has a variety of salads and appetizers, but try the stuffed peppers!

By the looks of the shopping center your not expecting much. But get past that fast, the deli is fantastic. We ended up with a godfather, custom salami on Dutch crunch, chocolate chip cookie and pesto pasta. All of the above very good. Bread on the godfather was traditional sourdough. The Dutch crunch on the salami was tastefull. Very fair size and meat in both sandwhiches. Just like a deli should be. Large variety of sandwhiches, salad, and everything a deli should have. Will be back again.

i went here at around 10:30 on a saturday since this place had such good reviews. Got hubby a breakfast croissant with ham and cheese and he said it was super delicious and very filing. I got the hobb gobbler with no wasabi and added cranberry on dutch crunch. It was really good! But the portions are big - we totally could have split something and been perfectly satisfied. The downside is this place seems to lack any actual customer service. The girl that helped me had no smile, no helpfulness whatsoever and when i asked which of the breads would be the lowest calorie she literally said "i don't know" and didn't even offer to check.

Yes yes a million times yes. The best vegetarian sandwich I have ever had! We got there around 11:40 and was shocked there wasn't a line. It was great - all the hype that everyone talks about. Super nice staff, too!

I go here for their humongous sandwiches. They bake their own bread and I like the sweet French roll. One sandwich could feed 2 people or one very hungry one. Try to avoid peak times since they get overloaded. At times they have got my order wrong or lost my order. However, I still go back. Small seating area inside but you are a one block walk to the ocean. Also like the feel of an old world italian deli.

Excellent sandwiches! We got the salami and garlic jack cheese on Italian baguette. Huge portion. The spicy peperoncinis were delicious. Definitely will come back

This is an Italian family business and it shows in all the right ways. I always love coming here. From the welcoming smiles and wonderful smells that greet you as you walk through the door, until the warm parting exchanges as you leave, you'll feel comforted. The family bakes their own loaves of bread, of various styles, textures and grains. The breads are all suited to the Italian Deli style sandwiches, plus you'll find focaccia, muffins, cookies and pastries. And if you arrive early enough, flaky croissants. Like any good deli, it's also a market with many imported Italian goodies, wines and even specialty pastas, ravioli, stuffed gnocchi and sauces. Don't miss the many salad and marinated items in the display case. There are even soups. But I saved the best for last... The sandwiches are amazing. There are 28 specialty sandwiches, like my favorites: Philadelphia Hoagie, Lt. Colombo and The Paisano. They also make wonderful panini and breakfast sandwiches, and of course, you can build your own. There are only a few seats, but the majority of their business is take-out, especially with a nice beach and great Pacific Ocean views behind them. The meats and cheese are sliced with loving care, whether to package or for the sandwiches. So don't expect a quickly slapped together meal, but do expect to be overwhelmed with flavor. By the way, whilst I only have 4 check-ins here, it's Yelp that is the newcomer. I've been a regular since they opened in 1986.

Today was my first time here. Hubs had been here before with one of his buddies during a fishing trip. The food looked really good on Yelp, and had great reviews to boot. Instead of ordering my own sandwich, we decided to share the Club House sandwich since I felt like we had been eating ALL DAY LONG haha. It had turkey, bacon, ham, Swiss, American cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo on Dutch crunch. It was delish! I just wish they served it with a nice dill pickle. Grab a number (like at the DMV) and wait your turn to be called. You'll have plenty of time to decide on your order while you wait. Once you place your order in, expect a minimum of 15 minutes for your sammich to be ready. We wandered next door to the consignment store and killed a couple minutes looking at the vintage stuff there. The deli also has a couple aisles of Italian groceries like pasta sauces, pasta, cookies, crackers, bruschetta, condiments, canned veggies and beans, and the like. They do not offer any beers for sale there (booooo!) so you'll have to go a couple doors down to Safeway for some cold ones like we did. Perfect location for picking up beachside eats as it's about 10 minutes away from the nearest beach. I'm sure we'll be back!!!

I suppose I hadn't really experienced many sandwiches back in my 2010 days. While I still like Columbo's for their bread, array of Italian treats, and cheeses, I think their sandwiches are sub-par and flavorless, even with cheese. Sorry guys, just being honest. Not sure what you can do to make the meat more flavorful, maybe just add salt and pepper to each sandwich? I could also be ordering the wrong item (for 5+ years?). Got the Godfather last time I was around and it just wasn't good. Wish I had gone to Safeway for their deli sandwiches...

Have been coming here since I was a child. Sandwhiches are great, what can I say. Get the Roast Beef Bomb, the 49er Goldminer, the Chicken Parm, or the BBQ, on the days that they have the last two. Wonderful service. The owner is there often, if not all of the time, and makes a mean sando. A lot of times the owner (from my experience) becomes too conscientious of price and skims on the product, but not the case here at all. They're proud of their product, which is the most you can ask for, and something that I as a cook always look for at an establishment. Their prepared foods are great as well, homemade pastas in particular. They have their own machines that make them in-house, and they bake all of their own bread. How can you ever ask for more? No wonder they have a # system, and the lines can get a little dicey / intense. WELL worth the wait, if you ask me, time and time again.

hmm? overrated much? I probably would've given it 3 stars but the fact that this place has SUCH high reviews made my let down even greater. Order roast beef surpemo one....meat was good but the bread and everything else was very average. Friend got the pork panini special of the day. Not bad but also nothing that stood out beyond other delis Ive been to. The main reason for the low stars it the wait. I get that they are busy but the wait was longer than ANY deli should ever be. This ain't no fancy or special restaurant, definitely wont be coming here on a busy day for sure.

Unfortunately, I feel this deli is a bit over-rated. Granted, I am a bit spoiled by the Woodside Deli (in Woodside off of 280) and can't help but compare. I've ordered sandwiches from here probably half a dozen times, and can only recall one time that I was actually really pleased with my sandwich - I don't recall which one it was - one with a variety of Italian cold-cuts on it. The service is pretty friendly, but they are slower than molasses at making sandwiches. They generally move slowly, which doesn't make sense to me because they are always busy. There's no sense of urgency. Sometimes I will call for a to-go order and they will tell me there is an hour wait. Really? If they moved faster, they could probably cut that in half. Yesterday it was before the big lunch rush and I only had to wait a few minutes to place my sandwich order - I only ordered 2 cold subs and 2 deli items - and I waited probably another 15-20 minutes for my food to be ready. In my humble opinion, it should take no more than 10 minutes for such an order. But that was considered fast compared to how long you have to wait when it's actually busy. Try, 45 minutes. Again, no sense of urgency. Now, the slowness would be more forgivable if the sandwiches were consistently really good, but alas, they are not. The Dutch crunch and wheat rolls yesterday were dry and overly-bready in relation to the meat and produce. Both of us were underwhelmed and dissatisfied with the overall quality and flavor. My Godchild sub was bland and dry, especially the turkey. I had to add more olive oil and toast it in a pan to make it more palatable. As for the deli items, the calamari in the calamari salad was really tough and hard to chew. Not yummy. The large white beans in the red sauce was okay, but nothing to write home about. The girl helping me couldn't tell me what the sauce was or provide any sort of description, nor could she confirm whether or not there was vinegar in the calamari salad (my fiancé hates vinegar). So they need to work on their staff's knowledge of their products. She offered to ask when she should've just gone ahead and asked someone immediately, but it wasn't a big deal. Overall, I feel the quality of the food and consistency is lacking, and it's not cheap either. The Godfather was almost $10. 2 subs, 2 half pint deli items, and 2 iced teas were over $30. Added with the slowness of the service, I am not sure I will continue to frequent this deli.

Italian deli sandwich was never my favorite type of sandwich, but this place makes an enjoyable sandwich. Start with lots of fresh italian deli meats on big loaf of bread and you got a good sandwich. This place has huge portion sandwiches and you def get your moneys worth.

Oh wow! If you're in the area and you like sandos? Stop by! You will thank me. Colombo has been around since 1985. They carry a veritable number of fresh bread! It can get busy and calling ahead is a good idea. We tried the Steak Sandwich. It's grilled steak with mayo, house made toasted garlic spread n caramelized onions on a fresh sourdough. It's a huge sandwich loaded with meat that we opted to share. At $8.99 + tax it's worth every penny. They carry practically every sinful stuff that a hungry belly or mouth would want. Sausages, chocolates and their sandwich menu is no joke either! It's a whole wall worth! There's only a few tables inside. But I noticed that most locals order to go. Colombo's sits in a strip mall that offers great parking. Awesome! No nonsense fast service. I noticed the staff wash their hands constantly in between customers before they make their orders. I like that! Easily a fan!

This has been my go to spot for sandwiches for years now, my boyfriend introduced to me this place and I was hooked. We were die hards for this place. Almost every week we would be ordering a sandwich. But lately the constant slack of how the sandwiches are being made has become awful. We had no problem paying the increase in prices when they went up because we knew we were getting a satisfying meal. The last two times wasn't cuttin it. The sandwiches are being poorly made. We noticed the change in staff but we thought they were trained well because it's colombo's. The lack of meat is sad, I'm paying ten dollars for bread. The last sandwich is when we made up our minds that this is not our place to eat anymore. There was one slice of each meet. There was a huge amount of lettuce a couple slices of cheese and that equals ten dollars! I can make a better sandwich than that! The club house always came with a chuck of the meat not just sliver. We are sad to let this place go, maybe the owner will get a clue that they need to train better on how their people are making sandwiches.

I would say overrated the steak sandwich was not impressive , it was way to juicy as in the bread turned into pudding. The dutch crunch bead was also not made correctly as it was dry and crumbled as I ate it. I have never had any other sandwiches from here , but my first experience was enough to keep me from returning.

I have been to this shopping plaza a number of times in the past but never noticed this tiny little shop. It's hard to make it there before they close (6 pm on weekdays and 5:30 pm on Sat) but today I made it a point to leave early enough to try out their sandwiches. A friend went along with me and we were totally enamored with the adorable store. After ordering, we looked through their variety of cheeses and specialty Italian foods. They bake their own bread daily and I was quite tempted to get one of the cinnamon rolls as we waited. I got the Godmother sandwich because the home-cooked Garlic Rosemary Turkey sounded like it would be good. The sandwich was HUGE, and totally worth it for $7.99. I thought the turkey was a bit dry and the sandwich overall pretty sour (because of the pepperoncinis and artichoke hearts). But the ingredients were fresh and the sourdough bread nice and crunchy. Next time I would go for a hot sandwich, such as their grilled steak or roast beef. Their special (pulled pork) also sounds good. My friend got the meatball sub ($7.99) and that was really delicious. There is really a difference when the meatballs as well as their marinara sauce are homemade. So glad I have found a good sandwich place in Pacifica! This will now be my go-to lunch place when I'm in the area and I'm excited to try more of their menu!

When your craving a good sandwich you have to go here! My favorite is the Godfather sandwich, but I will switch to hot pastrami when I feel the need. The only drawback is the wait as this is a popular place, but once you take a bite you know it was worth the wait!!

Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? I thought I was playing it safe by ordering the most highlighted sandwich on Yelp (the Godfather), but I was not satisfied even though I was starving when I ate it. The sandwich comes with prosciutto and (I think) salami, provolone, artichoke hearts, onions, peperoncini, tomato, and lettuce on sourdough bread. There might have been a couple of other ingredients I missed, but that's the gist of it. I was really excited to finally bite into this sandwich during my late lunch, but was slightly disappointed by the really overpowering sour and salty taste. I think there might have been a little too much vinaigrette or something. This sandwich didn't really do it for me, but they have a lot of other ones on their menu so maybe I'd like those more. I do like that their ingredients are super fresh though, including their freshly baked bread and the staff is friendly so I'd be willing to give this place another try someday.

I still love this deli after being away for 12 years. Despite the fact that my sammich maker used Dutch crunch (don't like) instead of the advertised home-baked sourdough, our "Napoleon" sammich was very tasty. I guess next time I have to specify to use the correct bread. This deli makes great sandwiches.

Okay, so I think it depends on what you order. I have had a pretty decent sandwich or two before; although not made with their "house cooked" meat. The service is decent, not rude yet not extremely friendly either. Recently tried their own turkey and roast beef, as I had a meat hankering, especially a beautiful sandwich I planned to make later. As I was expecting something fabulous, I had to try a slice of each as soon as I returned home. The turkey tasted average, not much flavor and was dry. It was not totally dry, but dry enough. The roast beef was not dry, but had absolutely no flavor. How can that be? If I had been blindfolded I would not have known it was roast beef. At over $10 per pound for the turkey and $14 for the roast beef, it feels like I was ripped off. The cold cuts at Safeway have more flavor. Next time I feel like meat by the pound to take home, I will definitely go elsewhere; although can't think of anywhere in Pacifica. Molinari's anyone?

One of the best delis I have ever been to. It ranks up there with Molinari, Lucca, and Arguello. My favorite so far is the Lieutenant Colombo, which has pate on top of turkey, roast beef, and teleme cheese.

This is a great spot to pick up sandwiches for a picnic on the beach. Your bread choices are Dutch crunch, sourdough, or French roll. I had the Dutch crunch, and although the ridges on top were not the usual darker brown, they crumbled like the top of a buttery biscuit. I got pastrami with brown mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and pickle and it was a winning combination of salty, spicy, and tart. And for $6.65 before tax ($7.25 after tax), the portion size was good. So the question is, which is better, Colombo's Deli or Little Lucca in SSF? Personally, I say Colombo's. I'd rather pay $1 less for a more normal-sized sandwich with better ingredients - Colombo's has better Dutch crunch, non-yellow mustard choices, and romaine instead of iceberg lettuce. My friend on the other hand, loves Little Lucca's garlic spread and simply enjoys the thrill of receiving a gargantuan sandwich (~ 1.5 times the size of Colombo's sandwich). At the end of the day, it's up to you - do you choose better bread and better balance of flavors, or do you choose intense garlic flavor and sheer mass?

I've had a lot of superb sandwiches in the bay area and i was thinking Colombo was going to be added to my list of awesomeness It was already 330pm on a saturday and there was still TONS of people there ordering and picking up sandwiches. There's a number system for you to order your sandwich The lady at the front doing the orders is doing her due diligence by going fast and getting the orders in while 4-5 others are making all the sandwiches on top of the phone orders to kudos to that. But, here are a few things that bugged me: 1. the tons of flies chillin in the place 2. the number system doesnt seem to work well, at least the lady/cashier taking orders wasn't working it well since she kept forgetting what number she left off of. 3. the lady / cashier made some IMMATURE joke when I also ordered a chocolate chip cookie. here's the jist of it: Lady: anything else with the sandwich? Me: oh yeah, one chocolate chip cookie please Lady: oh sure here you go; you better behave now and no more sweets for you Me: uhhh...what did you just say? o_O Lady: ***awkward silence*** 4. the sandwich wasn't good. turkey was dry. bread was ok. I've had way better sandwiches with LESS wait and better customer service. i cant believe i drove out of my way for this.

Mediocre sandwiches, inefficient operations, bad attitude. It's kinda like going to the DMV - you're supposed to "take a number" for service even if you're the only customer in the shop. Then, when they FINALLY get to your number and you place your order, it takes forever and a day for them to make it. I got yelled at for wanting to pay for my sandwich ("I'M ASSISTING ANOTHER CUSTOMER!!!" was the reply I got. Jeezus lady, I just wanted you to take my money and give me my sandwich). If the store owner is around, slowly back away.....DO NOT ENGAGE! You will be scarred.

I'm not sure what the big deal is here. 45 minutes for two sandwiches, "Locals Only" vibe, and a hostile attitude toward no bread/gluten free options? Is there a Jersey Mikes around here?

The sandwiches here are the best in Pacifica. The owners are very nice people. My only frustration is that the wait is too long at lunch. My solution to this is to call in before 11 when I am picking something up. They will get it ready in advance and this lets me skip the line. There appear to be great salads in the deli case. There are fancy pastas and sauces to buy and make at home. So far, we have stuck to the sandwiches and have never been disappointed.

Best. Sandwiches. Ever. I've searched high and low for the perfect deli, and Colombo's is it. The Bay area has lots of good delis (vs. LA), but most places have at least one thing I could point to and say, "I wish they had this..." Not here. Colombo's makes the best sandwich period. My top favorite is the Napoleon - generous amount of prosciutto on a deliciously chewy sourdough roll. But there are many other great creations on the menu. You can't miss with a Hobbs Gobbler, Godchild, Lt. Colombo, 49er, or (when they have it) their Chicken Parmesan sandwich. Actually, you can't go wrong with any of their sandwiches, really. If you like Dutch crunch, they make the best Dutch crunch from scratch. They also have other great baked goodies at different times of the week. Try their cookies, especially the smores cookie, cinnamon rolls, and croissants. The cons? This place is almost always busy. Sometimes you have to wait. But, seriously, for the best deli there is, who minds waiting? I don't mind.

  • Tadas P.

Had the Godfather and it's delicious! They have a nice selection of deli meats and the breads are very fresh. The only problem is the wait as there are usually a lot of people here and you can wait a little before you get your food. However, the portions are worth the wait!

This is the first place I have eaten at in years that really feels like an east coast deli. AWESOME grinders. Real deal. I am from Massachusetts and lived in NYC for a bit and this place is the best on the west coast for a regular hero. Get at it.

I needed some food after a nice bike ride, and I spotted this place. I ordered the Club House sandwich which comes with ham, turkey, bacon, American, and Swiss cheese. There was practically no wait, and 5 minutes later I was on my way. The sandwich was great. Perhaps the best part was the bread which must have been just baked. A nice little deli to stop by and grab something to eat before heading to the beach.

Sandwiches are apparently decent, I don't know yet and may never know. I might age 30 years before I get to place my order. This placed is STEEPED in inefficiency, which is sad because they could really crush it. Or maybe it just seems packed because everyone is waiting to place an order. All they need is a cashier who greets people, takes orders and implements a system for moving things along; then the sandwich makers wouldn't have to deal with the money handling -and having to wash their hands, or stare vacuously at people who are standing around in disbelief that they have a number in hand that's 20 tickets behind the actual order on the board. Oh, and the staff could work like they are actually getting paid for work, rather than lackadaisically staring at each other while 25 people wait in disorganization to either place an order, pay, or pick up their food. One guy waited 15 minutes just to grab a loaf of baguette.... I'm still waiting to place an order for a sando and have been here for 32 minutes. I abhor inefficiency.

Just an FYI: We went back to try out some different sandwiches and Colombo's is now 3 for 3! The Godfather, Steak sandwich, and Napoleon are all crazy delicious! Also, we finally saw this place during rush hour and they handle the traffic really well. They've got a giant crew, which continues to be made of the nicest people on the planet, working to get your noms to you as quickly as possible.

I stopped in this sweet little spot for the first time today, and had my socks blown off. In a good way, of course. :) I let Brian & Emil (the owners) know I was a first-timer, and was seriously given the royal treatment. I bought a bag full of stuff: a Sweet French Loaf, Boar's Head roast beef (my favorite!), smoked salmon, a bottle of Trebbiano, and some fancy Italian cherries that come in a gorgeous container (I'm a sucker for nice packaging). Emil threw a couple of complimentary items into my bag, and since I had a baby with me, carried my purchases and walked me to my car! It was early in the morning, and I was likely the first customer of the day (I wouldn't expect a walk to the car at noontime), but still, the high level of service and friendliness truly impressed me. I felt like a member of the family! Absolutely no question about it... I will be back again and again. :)

Well, the secret is out: Colombo's is Pacifica's not-so-little secret, featuring the most excellent sandwiches in Pacifica and beyond. When I first moved to Pacifica in 1989, Colombo's was a little, family-run hole in the wall. Over time, it expanded to its current size (still not terribly large) to accomodate its popularity. And it was popular for all the right reasons. Colombo's is well-run by a friendly family, with several generations and siblings represented behind the counters. If it's busy, enter and take a number while you peruse the board of specialty sandwiches, the cases of deli meats and prepared salads, and the appealing assortment of food and wine on the shelves and counters. When you order, know that the bread is homemade and can also be purchased by the loaf. A loaf of Dutch Crunch is always welcome back at home. And, whatever sandwich you decide on, don't forget to tell them that you want something they don't even tell you they have (a secret!): 1) garlic sauce or 2) pesto sauce. Now take that delicious sandwich bomb down to Rockaway Beach, hike over the trail to the Linda Mar beach (or vice versa) and have yourself a little picnic while you enjoy the waves, the surfers, and one uber-good sandwich.

Yay, I found good food walking distance from the gym! What better way to lose all those calories and then gain them back again. We intended to get a sandwich but opted for the panini instead. The Manor- roasted turkey, cheese, pesto, and roasted tomatoes. Light, non greasy, very flavorful. Will definitely come back to try the sandwiches.

The slowest service ever. And it's been that way for decades. Doesn't matter what time of day or how crowded the deli is. The secret to not spending a good chunk of your day there: order by phone and pay with a credit card.

This place reminds me a lot of La Villa Delicatessen in Downtown Willow Glen in just about every way (even down to the homemade ravs) except for one big difference: the quality of the food is not up to the same level. Don't get me wrong, it's OK. I guess... It just seems like when I pay almost $10 for a sandwich I should get more than 6 slices of prosciutto on some over-baked bread. They need to head down to South City and visit Little Lucca's and see how it's really done. Those boys know how to serve up a monster sandwich, that'll feed 2 people and keep it well under $10. I'd really like to give it 2 stars, but I'll bump it up to three because I can see they're really trying. Also, on a side note, what's up with the iron shroud your sandwich-maker disappears behind, after taking your order, to assemble your sammich? I found it a little disconcerting that I can't see what he's up to. I wonder if anyone else feels the same way, or is it just me?

Dutch Crunch = Freshly Baked. Large Amounts of Deli Meat shoved into Sandwich = So far so good. Pick a number is very convenient = Quick and easy service. I had no idea there was a quality deli so close to me. There was no wait around 2PM. I recommend the Tomaso Special or the Godfather. Very courteous staff and they were also very knowledgeable about the mini market items they had for sale. All the food they serve here is fresh. This will definitely be my go-to spot if I don't feel like waiting in line *cough* (Little Lucca). A gem in Pacifica! Also, a HUGE PLUS is that you can take your awesome sandwich around the corner to the beach and enjoy the scenery. Not bad...not bad at all.

I am never eating here again! I got the worst upset stomach from the sandwich I got here. I will admit it was a tasty, but my stomach hurt so bad after I ate it. I really wanted to like this place, but I guess Safeway's sandwiches will have to do at least they don't hurt my stomach.

Kind of a gold old fashioned Italian deli. Good break and good sandwiches. They are pretty slow though. Long wait times. If you're not in a rush it's worth the wait. Lots of other Italian food in the store.

3 words: Sweet French Roll The Philadelphia is my favorite, and comes on sweet french, but no matter what sandwich you get, try it on sweet french. That bread is DELICIOUS. If this place is busy, you will be waiting for a little while, but it's worth it, and it's only because they make the sandwiches so perfect!

God it's hard not to love Colombo's but the truth is they have fallen off a step or two. When i first tried their sandwiches several years ago i thought i had gone to bread-and-meat heaven: homemade meatballs, fresh-baked bread, great cheeses...my stomach rumbled just now as i wrote that! seriuosly, it was amazing. and worth the sometimes 45 minute wait time. so after completing some Wedding Business my fiancee and i rewarded ourselves with a trip to Colombo's last weekend and after, yep, a solid 45 minutes waited & 25 bucks paid (for two sandwiches!), we got home to a mouthful of disappointment. both of our sandwiches were wrong: hers was not heated and my sweet french roll was actually sourdough. not to mention she wanted to substitute grilled chicken breast for the turkey but was called back to the counter because they were out. so she had to settle for sliced chicken cold cuts. but hey, nothing criminal here right? we forgive a busy deli these minor oversights, agreed? unfortunately our sandwiches tasted like crap too. we couldn't believe it. we looked at each other, caught the disappointment and asked, "how's yours...?" then laughed. such a shame! neither or us could finish our Colombo's sandwiches!! in Pacifica you just don't put down Colombo's - it is an institution here and you will likely lose friends for being a heretic or get beaten out of Winters if you dare naysay this Italian holy grail. unfortunately the badness is true. we wasted all that time and money on sandwiches we threw out. total bummer. my meatballs were bland and dry as cardboard, there was no sauce and the cheese was barely melted...embarrassing. her Godmother - besides being cold - was also tasteless and boring. and left a weird, off-putting aftertaste. Colombo's sandwiches have been getting worse & worse and worth the wait and price less & less. go to Colombo's for the unbelievable deli & various mediterranean accoutrement you simply won't find anywhere else nearby (outside of North Beach). for a sandwich worth your time & money, go to Subway.

Take a number because this place is almost always full of hungry Colombo's fans. They make my custom order to perfection every time. The staff are friendly and the place is clean and smells great.

Went here for lunch while on a short vacation in half moon bay. Tried it out because of yelp reviews. Would definitely go back next time I'm in the area. We had a deli sandwich on the best tasting Dutch crunch bread I have ever tasted. Also got a few delicious cookies too.

I'm not sure why I keep dating boring eaters. But I can say although it didn't change the palate of a certain subway devotee he was impressed that sandwiches could be this good and fresh. If you love franchises and don't know a good sandwich when it smacks you in the face this place won't be for you BUT if you are a specialty sandwich lover and especially love all things old school Italian deli this is your joint. Homemade bread, freshly cut meat and chesse, and loads of fresh veggies. Check it out!

BEST deli sandwich shop I have ever tried almost out if anywhere I had a sandwich! The service is great and the sandwiches are phenomenal. Trust me this is the place to go if you want a giant sandwich to fill you up. Highly recommended

I want to give this place another round. It looked so good based of the lines. My selection was the issue, I'm guessing. The sandwich I got was pretty dry and a bit dull. Just a ton of meat with a pickled item or two?? Honestly can't remember the name. Next time I'm trying one of the sandwiches with more veggies and spreads. Colombo's really seemed to good to base the whole place off of one mediocre sandwich. Stay tuned.

Great deli market serving big sandwiches. Always forget about this place because it seems kind of far from the city. Even though it's the closest part of pacifica from SF. Great place to pick up a sandwich and head to the beach.

These sandwiches are delicious. The ingredients are the freshest I've ever gotten from a deli, and the owners are so friendly. The only downsides are limited seating, and long waits. Plus, these sandwiches are so good, I wish they would deliver!

It was a Sunday, just before lunch, and the line was already to the door. Luckily, the line moves faster than you can take in all that they have in the deli case. Their sandwiches are perfect and made to order. I ordered the Godfather (minus the mortadella, mild coppa, and proscuitto). Toscano salame on a sourdough roll with olive oil, vinegar, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pepperoncinis, artichoke hearts and oregano. The sourdough roll, soft and chewy at the same time. The meat, the veggies and cheese (I chose mozzarella), phenomenal. I'd like to have one everyday. Sadly, we live over an hour away in the far East Bay. He ordered a roast beef with swiss on a sourdough roll. We were both full and each had a half a sandwich left to bring with us as we drove along the coast. A great place for a quick bite. Although the lines are long, it moves fairly quickly. Only downside is there isn't really anywhere to eat other than a few (I think I counted 3) tables, so take it to go.

Sandwiches, so so. Had to wait 20 minutes for a steak sandwich. After standing around for about 15 minutes, I finally asked when my order would be done. I was told by the oh-so bitchy woman named Kathy that it took time to cook the steak. Then she told me again. And again. Why didn't someone mention this when I ORDERED THE THING?? Anyway, too much hostility from Kathy to come here again. If the sandwiches were something special (think Molinari's in the City), then I would tolerate the wicked witch. If you're charging $10.95 for a mediocre deli sandwhich, the least you can do is be nice.

Tucked away in an unassuming shopping area is Colombo's where you will salivate for their amazingly hearty sandwiches! The bread has the perfect crunch-to-softness ratio (especially my favorite Dutch Crunch). The fillings of meat, cheeses, veggies, and sauce ingredients are expertly combined into finger-licking creations. Just listen to the Godfather: mortadella, proscuitto & salame w/ olive oil, vinegar, lettuce, tomato, onion, pepperoncini, artichoke hearts & oregano! Mmmmmm. ^_^ And if you need to balance that out with sweetness, they also have a wide selection of Italian goodies like panetone & torrone.

I could easily eat a whole loaf of their homemade dutch crunch it's super delicious! that said I usually order the salsalito turkey with bacon, avocado, garlic, spread, cucumbers on dutch crunch. The only thing i was a lil disappointed is the bacon ratio in the sandwich cause i love mah bacon!! tip- sandwiches are huge so split one, or its an awesome 2 meal!

The only place to get a sandwich in Pacifica!!! There bread is great by itself. go when it opens and get a few loaves right out the oven and try not to eat the whole loaf. Dont need butter or salt just rip and bite... Staff is great and nerdy looking guy with glasses is really nice and has been there forever... maybe he owns it idk but he's super nice and knows how to make a delicious sandwich. Not that you care ,but you cared enough to read this far so My sandwich of choice is Sourdough pepper turkey pepper jack cheese and lettuce. no sauce just alot of black pepper. My mouth is watering right now. I got them on speed dial. jalepeno stuffed olives ! =) . if its busy take a couple numbers and when someone pretty comes in a little later giveher the number and maybe get her number oh yeah! Dont dine there its annoying grab and go otherwise people might think you are at an AA meeting and small town they will tell everyone. I admit it though im addicted to columbos. My grandma has me mail 5 loaves of french bread to her in Oregan.Eat there for lunch today. Tell them Tim the Turkey sent you and they will give you a weird look and say your the 5h person that said that, is some retard leaving crazy messages on yelp. From that point you are on your own. Bye

So I moved to Pacifica to start my third year of college, and my first order of business was to find some decent places to eat. I found Columbos Deli my second day here and, well, I've eaten here everyday since. I love sandwiches, I've eaten them here all over California, I've eaten then throughout the Middle East, and I've eaten them everywhere in between. Despite all that- Columbos holds the title for best sandwich I've ever had. They are huge, reasonably priced, and absolutely delicious. I'm not usually a fan of Dutch crunch, but they make it fresh, and it's absolutely amazing. My personal favorite (and regular choice that they've learned to expect) is the Tomoso's Special with no bacon, add avocado and maple honey turkey on Dutch crunch. They jam their sandwiches with more meat than any other place I know, and have so many options to choose from, from dozens of different, authentic Italian cheeses, to twice as many meats and sauces. The service is fast, friendly, and personable. These are some of the nicest people that will ever prepare a meal for you. They also make delicious (but slightly pricey) brownies, and have a section for home cooked foods that look delicious, but I have yet to try. Be sure to grab a Stewart's cream soda to go with the sandwich. Aside from the beautiful weather and small walk away from the beach,Columbos might just be the reason I stay in Pacifica after school is done.

I was exploring Pacifica for my Arch studio so I decided to find a good place for lunch. Bingo! Sandwiches! I ordered the Tomaso's Special - turkey, bacon, swiss, cheddar on a sourdough. It was toasted warm too so the cheese was all melty! Yuuuuum! There isn't much space to eat there. Only 3 tables with a couple chairs. Definitely going back if I'm ever in the neighborhood.

Get the Godfather sandwich...to die for hahaha! But really, it's so good. We stopped in here after a day spent at Ft. Funston with our 3 chihuahuas, and grabbed sandwiches for the drive back home. So good. And reasonably priced. The place is busy, take a number as soon as you walk in the door, and then be prepared to wait. And wait. But it is so worth the wait!!!! We will be back - soon!

Quality deli however too slow at times. They bake their own bread and they hand slice deli meat per each sandwich order. Great selection of Italian deserts, snacks, wine etc.. I like their sandwich specials as they have some unique and quality combinations. I think it's the hand slicing of meat that makes them slow. Think about it, if you got a sandwich with several meats that's a whole lot of unwrapping, slicing, re-wrapping of meat just to get our order out. I once went in there at noon to order a sandwich for a 1:30 Niner game, it took 1 hour and 15 minutes to get my sandwich. So simply put their system of making sandwiches does not work. It is what prevents me from going their too often. You take a number and they are pretty good about getting your order but it takes ages to get your sandwich. I'm not talking -fat-lazy-American-can't-wait-for food type of thing, I'm talking makes-no-sense-to-wait-an-hour-for-lunch type of thing.

If one could marry inanimate food-objects, I would most definitely betroth the Salmon-sandwich on Dutch Crunch from Colombo's. Little Lucca watch yo back! I've also heard The Godfather is pretty good. With a name like that, it's got to be. If you're looking for locally grown, fresh, quality sandwiches definitely check this place out. Prices range from around $7-$10 for their sammies. Most certainly a P-Town gem.

Italian style - with mostly American brand salamis and other meats. Bread not the freshest. Okay if you are in area and hungry for a bite but I wouldn't make a detour to get here. 3 small tables if you don't want take-out.

So, this is definitely an overdue review considering I've already had the chance to try half the menu! This place is so freaking amazing that my husband comes here about every other day to pick me up lunch. His goal is to try every single sandwich and it sure helps that we live about a block away. I have never really been big on sandwiches, but Colombo's made me realize it's because I've never really had an awesome sandwich! So far I've tried the godmother, godfather, sicilian, steak, bbq beef, meatball, chicken breast, napolean? and I think a few other sandwiches. I've had food orgasms from all of them except the sicilian (it didn't hit the spot). This is now our go-to place whenever we can't think of anywhere else to eat. Most of the time, we just don't want to eat anywhere else!

Cannot say enough good things about Colombos. Would go here every day of I had the money, but alas, I am a college student. I've been going to Colombos for my whole life, it is always consistently excellent with awesome service to boot. I get the grilled chicken breast sammy whenever I go in and it never disappoints. All the sandwiches are good, the meats and breads are top notch quality. Long live Colombos!

Just found this place and being from the east coast it reminds me of the Italian Deli's back home. By far one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time and they have a large selection. Delish!!

Two words: Dutch Crunch. No joke. When the boy told me they had the best dutch crunch here, I didn't believe him. I wasn't even a big fan of dutch crunch. But Colombo's changed it all. I got the Godmother [avocados instead of artichoke hearts] and the boy got Philly...something [sorry blanked out D: ] with mushrooms. What I love about Colombo's is that they're super flexible on toppings; the boy asked for extra mushrooms, and when asked how much he wanted, he just said "Whatever you think will taste good," and that was it. It was no problem for them to substitute avocado for artichoke hearts, either. Love love love. And the sandwiches are super filling - one sandwich is easily two meals for me. I don't think the Godmother is the flavor for me [it's a little on the sour side], but I have so much faith in Colombo's, that I have no hesitation in giving them five stars. I know I'll find a favorite here. Oh, and their cookies are the boooomb. No joke - I think I had a mouthgasm from that Oatmeal Raisin cookie.

Very pretty little Italian deli with a great selection of sandwiches and prepared foods. It carries my favorite sauerkraut so I stop by when I'm getting groceries. Their sandwiches or good, but not the best I've had. They are a little heavier on the mayo usually than I like, but still very good. They are normalized sandwiches, so if I feel like it I usually go to Little Luccas for a feast for the same price.

This place is really awesome. They have freshly baked bread 7 days a week. We buy imported provolone cheese at the deli and mortadella. Staff is friendly and attentive. They have lots of different kinds of sandwiches. my significant other says he can eat here everyday for lunch for a month. It is a family owned place. The owners are really very good. If you are going to the coast or planning to go picnic by Pacifica Pier, grab sandwiches here. It is the best sandwich place in coast. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. You won't get disappointed.

Colombo's can make a great sandwich. They have all the resources to do so. I've had many fantastic sandwiches here and the selection of premium ingredients is hard to match in other delis in the area. Colombo's has been a part of the Pacifica community for years and has worked hard to gain their esteemed reputation. A family owned and run business that should garner a 5 star review from me... so why 1 star? I came into Colombo's in hopes of ordering a sandwich and eating it. Those were as far as my expectations went. I knew about the long waits for the food. Thats not a complaint btw... go to ******* Subway if you want something thrown together for 5 bucks in 30 seconds. Colombo's takes their time to do it right... at least when it comes to the food. Even the service is top notch most of the time... unless you get stuck with Cathy... What an insufferable two faced *****! I'll pass. I know working in food service can be stressful but while even I will agree that the customer is NOT always right you can at least treat them with decency and respect. I witnessed a longtime customer get the royal treatment from this customer service professional. She took this guys order of a half sandwich that he had been getting there for years (at least thats what he told me) and could not wait to get over to the area where they prepare the sandwiches to fly into a rage about how this customer "wasn't special" and "who the **** does he think he is?". Did she have ground to stand on with this complaint? possibly, maybe the policy changed. Does that in turn mean that the rule should be followed with dictator-like enforcement and complained about within earshot of this poor dude? Absolutely not. I heard everything. So did the poor guy but just in case SHE WROTE A NOTE ON HIS SANDWICH TELLING HIM THIS WOULD BE THE LAST TIME, DON'T ORDER THIS AGAIN. I'm Sure that made eating the sandwich so much better. Nothing like being *****ed at by a sandwich wrapper just in case the wildly inappropriate, unprofessional, *****-fest that occurred after ordering his sandwich didn't effectively communicate how unappreciated his business was. At risk of having to deal with this ***** I just don't get food here anymore. As good as it is it's not worth it to get treated like a piece of **** for spending my hard earned money here. I've never encountered problems with anyone else who works here in the 20+ years I've been a customer but I was so disgusted that someone in her position could be so out of line to someone like that. If this was some punk kid who has never had a job before and wasn't mature or experienced enough to properly handle a situation like this maybe I'd still go. Not the case with Cathy. There is an experience and wholeness to her unpleasantness that is unsettling to the core of my being. I've never been to a family owned and run business where someone could run the risk of being treated like that for ordering something he's been able to order for awhile. The odds are if I went back into Colombo's I probably wouldn't have to deal with Cathy anyways but statistically it's possible. I might be fortunate to get Scott who is just about as pleasant and professional as a human being can be and most of the people working there stack up just fine as far as service goes... but they are overseen by someone with a sociopathic approach to customer service. Willing to roll the dice? OK Here are somethings to look forward to if you can avoid having the notion of placing an order for food treated like you just punched a baby harp seal in the face: - fresh delicious bread (try the focaccia if they have it...) - The Godfather is AMAZING. - They usually have a great selection of random imported goodies from Italy (Unless they decided to stop selling that and clobber you with a salami for asking.) Odds are in favor of a good experience. Don't be one of those shmucks who complains about the wait. It's a premium product that in my last visit came with an overdose of toxic customer service. 5 stars would let them know they were excellent. 1 star lets them know that there is a serious ******* problem.

I came here specifically on the Yelp reviews and my love for sandwiches.....I was not impressed..... I walked in and found the little market and deli to be completely adorable. The service was friendly too......But the sandwiches were not the best I've had......I ordered the Godfather and my hubby ordered the Roast Beef Bomb......both were very very large sandwiches so that was a plus....but the flavors just weren't there for me......I love artichokes but there was so many on my sandwich that I couldn't even taste the meat.....Also the bread was hard and actually but my mouth....I'm a soft sandwich kinda girl.....

I spent my teen years in a mostly Italian suburb of Philadelphia; 10 years total. Colombo's Delicatessen comes the closest to what I remember eating at the many family owned Italian deli's that were within walking distance of the house I spent those years in. The breads, the meats, the cheese's, sides and salads; everything they offer is truly authentic. To give Colombo's the full credit they deserve, I'd have to say Colombo's is actually like a gourmet version of what I grew up eating in Philly. The sandwich's and foods I remember from my youth were actually simpler with less ingredients and fewer choices. Colombo's has taken it all to a whole other level - off the charts! In addition to the incredible sandwiches they have a great Italian grocery selection. They stock their store with all kinds of authentic Italian ingredients for those who want to cook Italian at home including an excellent selection of Italian wines, all priced very reasonably. The help behind the counter is kind, courteous, professional, and extremely knowledgeable of all their products. If you have never been to Colombo's you are truly missing out on something wonderful. Just make sure you pull a number when you first walk in, because guaranteed, you will have other customers ahead of you waiting their turn to order up some excellent Italian eats.

A solid three stars. Get there before 11:15 to bypass the lunch crowd or else call it in early. I called once around noon only to get a 1:00 pick up time. Both visits were accommodating and pleasant. Sandwiches are huge and cut in half. The store has a variety of chips, drinks, and cookies to add to your lunch. It also has a pre-made deli and dried goods like pasta, sauces, and olive oils along with some Italian sweets I've ordered the Lt. Colombo (roast beef, turkey, pâté, pesto, cheese, lettuce, tomato) and the Philadelphia Hoagie (2 different salami, prosciutto, olive oil, oregano, cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato) both on Dutch crunch and both smeared with mayo. I preferred the Philadelphia hoagie; it was huge and packed with so much flavor. The Lt. Colombo needed some crunch and another flavor as the sandwich fell kind of flat. It was also considerably smaller though they still packed the meat in. Also, I hate roast beef but I wanted to give it a chance. The BD has tried the Godfather and the Club House (turkey, ham, bacon, swiss and American cheese, lettuce, tomato) and enjoyed them both. They carry the Italian soft drink, Chinotto. It has a root beer flavor with a bittersweet aftertaste. I would normally not care to drink it, but ice cold, it cuts the heaviness of the sandwiches and can be quite nice.

This is a family owned shop that sells a varierty of quality meats/ pastas/ side dishes/ and sandwhiches. It is very charming and many regulars frequent this spot to get their sandwhich place. The sandwhich is big and very tasty. It's what you would expect from a sandwhich. The bread is very hearty and thick and the condiments are in perfect harmony. This would be an ideal place to stop by before you hit the beach.

Top notch deli with great sandwiches. Make their own bread. Hard to find specialty items. Love this place and so does everyone else so be prepared to spend about a half hour to get your sandwich. Your going to wait, take a number.

I haven't reviewed Colombo's? What? I love this place! Family owned and operated for as long as I can remember, Colombo's hasn't changed much over the *mumblemumble* years I've been coming here, but in this case, that is a very good thing. The meats, veggies and breads are always fresh and delicious, a personal favorite of mine is the Godmother sandwich, but really, it's all good. One thing they are not is fast. If you come here make sure you've got a little time to wait, especially if you come during the lunch rush. This isn't Subway. They aren't slapping your sandwich together from an assembly line of toppings that's been sitting out, they are carving the meat and cheese specifically for your sandwich, now doesn't that make you feel special?

Best sandwich shop in my life. Family owned businesses are the best! I have been eating here for nearly 20 years. Amazing bread which they make fresh daily in the shop. Quality meats and cheeses. Large sandwiches that a real man can eat and be full after. They make food with Love and it shows! My favorite is the Godfather. Thanks Emil you are the man! I love you!!!

Best sandwich I've had hands down. When the bread is fresh out of the oven, you can't beat it. The fresh soudough is so good, you can just rip pieces off of the stick, and get fat snacking on it lol. Good food, classy people, a family favorite. Give it a go!

About the best sandwich in the Bay Area if you like old-school Italian delis. All the bread is outstanding, meats are fresh, cheese is tasty... I could go without the number system and the wait is long but people are friendly and a delicious sandwich like this is worth the wait.

Long time coming. I ate here after an awesome day at Fort Funston. Drove down the coast, it's located in a small strip mall next to Safeway I think. But we got in line, don't bother taking a number, but do if you feel so inclined. The bread was fantastic, the turkey, avacado, and bacon all amazing and so fresh and yummy. I'm not a big sandwich fan, but if every sandwich I ate tasted like these, I would change my mind 100%!

They have excellent, huge sandwiches, but the wait on a weekend can be really long. Some of the sandwiches can be two meals. I'd be willing to bet some of their sandwiches are more than 1500 cals. Decent place overall.

I used to go here weekly when I lived nearby. Years later, I was in the neighborhood and stopped in, and one of the owners still remembered my name. Made me remember why I liked going there. The fresh baked bread for their art like sandwiches are great. Yes, it takes a while, but you can't rush good food. Can't wait? Call before 10:30 AM to order for lunch pick up. A tip - the dutch crunch is great, but eat it upside down so the crust doesn't hurt the top of you mouth. If you have a party or tailgate coming up, order one of their deli platters - very generous on the meats (roast beef, turkey, ham and salami). Say hi to Emil.

The best sandwiches ever! If you're lucky, they might have a sweet wheat french loaf, but it is rare and it goes fast. Mmmm! My other favorite is the Dutch Crunch. For years they bought the DC from someone else, but now they make it themselves. The DC was a little inconsistent at first, but now it's always amazing! If you get there early, the sourdough is the best since it is fresh baked and still warm and soft. Definitely opt for the honey mustard at no extra charge. The pickles are awesome and second only to Trader Joe's Bread and Butter pickes from the fridge section. Do also try their house roasted turkey or the smoked turkey on a sandwich. YUM! You have to be specific though or else you will get the regular processed lunch turkey which is still great. You can get pretty much anything you want here on your sandwich except sprouts. Lots of veggies for vegetarians too. You're not limited to the menu. Feel free to ask them to make sandwiches with whatever you want. This place gets very busy on sunny weekends. ALWAYS grab a number! Sometimes you don't need it, but you'll be bummed when someone else walks in and grabs one before you. Unfortunately, many people already know the drill and are too oblivious to realize that you're new and were there first. Oh, while you wait, definitely check out the other pre-made items. Everything really is as good as it looks. Everyone should at least try a dolma.

Colombo's Delicatessen is simply the best at what they do! Luckily for all of us, this area has wonderful food and a great array of quailty delicatessens. San Francisco's North Beach, North San Jose and parts of the North Bay excel in providing Italian cuisine.

My sister first took me here last year and then that was the beginning of a lovely sandwich addiction. The sandwiches here are so delicious and HUGE. I love the Philadelphia Hoagie and the oh so cheesey Boston Grinder 2. After a sandwich (if you have any room left) you should get a box of the Perugina Baci chocolate that comes in a blue box. Those are so good. They also have two tables if you want to eat your sandwich right then and there. Parking is a breeze and the times I've gone here, the weather was really nice so meaning no fog. LOL. Definitely a place to try!

They have what I can only assume the entire line of Boar's Head products, many of which I didn't even know existed. A nice busy place located along the strip of tourist stops by the beach, this place is more local friendly with not much of a flashy sign, which is a big plus. They pay particular attention to personal orders (you want rare roast beef? no problem) and their sandwiches are nice and big for a good hearty lunch. The roast beef bomb is fantastic. Note that this is a true deli. This means lunch only, so if you don't get there early you're screwed. Well worth taking the effort to do so, as they have some of the best quality meats I've seen in a deli. They also have some great Italian goodies as well, like fresh and dry pasta, good quality olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar, and even (!!) truffles (!!) in a little jar. The key thing about this place is the absence of a standard menu, merely a chalkboard listing a few specialties. You are free to order whatever you want, in whatever combination you want, which is a big plus if you want something special, a big minus if you can't make a decision for yourself. Their house made salads and concoctions are each worth a try as they are all excellent. In terms of quality, it is very hard to beat this place. With the turnout they get they don't need to be open any more hours, even if it means a little waiting as a customer.

Colombos makes (arguably) the tastiest, freshest sandwiches in Pacifica and their soups aren't bad either! I love the place, but it does take a while to get your freshly made sandwich sometimes so calling ahead is always a good idea.

We love both the quality of the ingredients at Columbo's as well as the personal attention and care in handling your order. A definite gem, and we recommend stopping here for a ToGo sandwich on your way out of town, for a fantastic meal on a plane ride, etc.

Take it from a native Italian Brooklyn boy...this place is legit. Sandwiches are consistently delicious and stacked! Staff(family owned and operated) is fantastic; each person more wonderful than the next. Worth going out of your way for.

Colombos is the best! Fresh bread, fresh meats and cheese- what else could you ask for- family owned and great service- you got it! It's a must any time we are in Pacifica- worth the trip. Take a chunk of foccia home too- it's so flavorful and fresh!

..so the kind of love I have for my husband is this - when i'm still hungry and love certain food and i want that last bite, but my husband says he's still hungry, I'd give him that last bite. In other words, he comes first before me! Today, as he devoured his log of Colombo's Deli roast beef bomb sandwich or roast beef hiroshima as he called it, he started eyeing my other half. I could only finish half so I'm already looking forward to my other half of club sandwich for my midnight snack later. Sure enough, he asked to have a "bite," which I know would be half of my other half. For the first time, I flat out said NOPE!!! But then I remembered that I dropped the other half of my sandwich in the car and the exposed side of the sandwich landed straight on top of our extremely dirty floor mat. Hence, I took it back and said "SURE you could have a bite but only the top part straight across!" Hahaha! I'm sure he'll read my review on Yelp and find out about this Anyway, back to the sandwich - WOW, FRESH FRESH FRESH! They cut the meat and cheese when you order. The meat is so tender and so fresh and so good. The cheese is so thick. I can't even describe it. I know it's good, because my husband choked while eating it, made all kinds of sound effect, and passed out after!

The best dutch crunch i have ever had in life. I don't think it matters what you get on your sandwich, the dutch crunch will take it to a whole nutha level. It's sweet, like honey, and super crunchy. The ends are like croutons. I got a loaf once, but you need to use it asap, otherwise it dries out.

Wow. If only I could get myself to walk to and from, I'd work off the impact of the sandwich, and it is a serious sandwich. Way more than any one person should eat in one sitting, but damn, I just can't stop myself. First and foremost, OMFG, the bread. Subway might bake fresh bread too, but they ain't got nuthin' on Emil. As a culinary professional myself, I'll say this: baking good bread isn't easy but Emil does it very well. It's not what I want when I sit down with an artisinal cheese plate, but it IS what I want whenever I eat a deli sandwich (at least 9 out of 10 times). The Hoagie is outstanding; I order this most of the time now. Sometimes they are a little heavy handed with the pepper flakes. Godfather and Meatball used to be my favorites until I branched out to the Hoagie. They are still awesome sandwiches though. Have tried some of the others, too, but I always come back to these three. The Lady really digs the Chicken Sandwich. Occasionally, they do a Muffuletta -- you can still order it though, even if they don't bake the round loaves. Grocery selection is cool -- some good oils, vinegars, pastas, Italian Vino, old-world sweets... Deli counter has a great selection. Better than most grocery stores. Wide selection of good salumis on top of the usual deli meat: Coppas, Soprasettas, Salamis, Prosciutto, Mortadella, even Speck Ham (YUM!). Service can be slow. They get outrageously busy around lunch on the weekends. Calling ahead is a good bet, but when they are really busy they don't always answer the phone. Oh well. In-store, unless they are slow, just grab a number for service. And don't get pushy to pick up your phone order -- its not an express line. ;-)

I never thought I'd be jealous of Pacificans, but Colombo's is the kind of Italian deli I only wish SF could have. Big, authentic selection, minus the North Beach over-charging snobbery (it's hard to be that full of yourself when you're located in a strip mall) . It also makes the perfect spot to grab a sandwich for a beach picnic (note that there's not really any seating here). Yes, there will probably be a wait, but at least they have the take-a-number system so you can peruse the groceries. It's hard to pick just one 'wich from their expansive and mouth-watering menu; I went with the philadelphia hoagie, which competes with even the best of the SF delis and corner liquor stores, especially thanks to the stellar meats, which gave it the perfect spicy-oiliness without making things too messy. And you can even buy whole baguettes of dutch crunch to take home.

I love this place. Best sandwiches around. I usually get mortadella and white cheddar on dutch crunch, but the Boston Grinder 2 is also delicious. They bake their own bread, and it's amazing! Everything there looks good. Can't wait to try their pasta salads and focaccia next time I make a trip out there.

One of the freshest sandwiches I have ever had in my life! I will go back here again for sure. The deli guy was pretty cool and really friendly. I ordered "The Godfather" and it was pretty damn tasty.... they could have been more generous with the prosciutto only a sliver on my sandwich, and I am so used to little luccas wet garlic and hot sauce spread, this sandwich tasted dry to me, but all in all I give it an A. The delicatessen is very clean and upscale. My Sandwich and 7-up came to $9, good price for the fresh and amazing quality of ingredients in my sandwich. This place is rated by the Pacifica Tribune as the Best Delicatessan for 2010. Check this place out if you love fresh sandwich's.

My favorite deli hands down. I usually have the same sandwich- kobe beef w/ light horseradish and sharp white cheddar on sourdough, but I also love the godfather and 49er and basically all of their sandwiches! Everyone who works there is very helpful and quick to offer samples and suggestions. It will take some time to get your sandwich made, especially if there are a few people ahead of you, but definitely worth my wait every time. While they make your sandwich, you can browse their selection of italian goodies - wine, cheese, salami, pastas and pickles, etc. If you want some of their fresh baked bread to go, ask for the par-baked loaf. It's huge, and they'll wrap it in saran wrap for you and it will stay fresh for several days.

I have been a Colombo's customer for about ten years. The first thing that you notice when walking in is that this is a real deli. From the imported salami hanging from the ceiling to the racks of pasta and cheese you won't find at Safeway or most other big box stores. The next thing you will notice, especially around lunch time, is the LONG line of customers greedily looking for their ordered food. It can take up 45min to walk in, order, and receive your sandwiches. This is not due to lackluster staff, it has to do with the care and correct process in which they make your sandwiches. **Make sure you call ahead with your order at least 25 min during lunch** There is a large selection of meats, chesses, olives, and wine available. You can find a large assortment of imported candies and homemade fresh pasta. For those in the know, you can secure a seat near the front window and read the inevitable local paper that is sitting on the table. But you will need to share space as there is only one table now due to repositioning of the merchandise. You can order any sandwich you like with a host of meats, cheeses, salads, or toppings. Or you can try one of their signature sandwiches which are worth every penny. My Favorite is the Tomaso's special on sourdough**their bread is made in the deli, in the ovens you can see from the counter** I have them cut down on the mayo, add extra lettuce, and Dijon mustard for the perfect balance of flavor for me. The Godfather is a great sandwich for those with a hearty love of meat. The Roast beef Bomb is self explanatory : ) Needless to say, you can some time in this deli and have your wallet come out lighter, but your belly will definitely not. If you get a drink, some chips and a specialty sandwich, you are looking at about $12. Absolutely worth it.

Well worth the wait! They have this flat bread with sauce and scallions all crunchy and soft mmmmmmmmmm ok ok ok if you are in Pacifica, goin to the beach.... this is where you go for sandwiches

I agree fully with those who are big fans of Colombo's. I've had two sandwiches here, Roast Beef Bomb and God Mother, and enjoyed them both. They're massive, easily enough for two meals for one person. The combination of ingredients is always interesting and flavorful. The service is great, even when there is a substantial line the folks at the counter handle it quickly and accurately.

We came here a year ago when we were visiting the area. The bread is outstanding. Not only the food was great but the owner serves it to you and really takes pride in delivery a unique, quality deli experience. We loved it, and you can't beat the price.

The best service and food ever!!! Yes they get busy--but it is worth the wait. When my family is in town we order a bunch of sandwiches--and EVERYONE is happy. The godfather for the serious sandwich eaters, the turkey on a roll for the mother in law, the godmother for my super picky sister in law. They know their products too--if you want to know about a certain cheese or meat they give you a taste (at least they give me a taste as I am in there at least once a week) and give you food network descriptions (a hint of garlic, a sweet undertone) Love Colombos!!!

I'm so sad in having to write a negative review for Columbos. For years this was our go-to place every Saturday morning. I'd nudge my significant other awake by ordering his favorite sandwich by phone then lure him out of the room with the wafts of freshly baked bread and delicious deli meats and cheeses. First, let me say that a few of the guys in there are simply the nicest people in Pacifica! There is one woman, I think she is the owner or related to the owner, who is a bi-polar witch - she can be so sweet to some people and completely evil to others - I've seen her in action, it's horrible. They started going downhill awhile ago when each time I went in I noticed: 1) their cheese case (in the back) was half-filled with way-expired cheeses - I'm talking YEARS expired, not just a couple days or weeks even. (they have since cleaned that out thankfully) 2) my friend got food poisoning from the Godfather - we know it was this b/c it was the only thing she ate that day 3) I went to buy some fancy olive oil as a gift and found that every single one of their olive oils ($20+) were expired or about to expire. Olive Oil has a pretty long shelf life, so it's pretty amazing that all of their product was in such a state! 4) They started outsourcing their Dutch Crunch baking and the quality was sub-par. 5) My significant other ordered a sandwich and the bread was so stale that we had to put water on it and nuke it to *kind of* bring it back to life so it would be edible. Seriously, this thing was a hockey puck - I'm surprised they could even get the knife through it! 6) We were missing our Columbos fix so we ordered sandwiches a couple weeks ago - when I got mine, the avocado was completely rancid...and not just by taste, it was actually a horrid puke brownish color. How did they not notice that as they smeared it all over my sandwich? So - I'm sorry, Columbo's, but I can't endorse you. I looked past a lot of these issues in the past, but I don't think I can keep subjecting myself to shoddy products. It makes it even worse when you don't know if you're going to get Glenda the Good or the Wicked Witch of the West when you walk in there. My suggestion - do away with the products in your store and fix your service issues. Because we have been loyal customers, I'm sure we'll give you another chance in a few months...but for now - Yelpers - be warned.

This is some of the best sammich eating around. On top of that it's a great deli if you're looking to acquire ingredients for some authentic Italian cooking at home. And grab a bacon-chocolate chip cookie while you're there. Super yummy!

The best sandwich you will ever have made by the nicest people. I have driven from Los Angeles a few times just to get a Godfather Combo.

Prompt, friendly service, deliciously fresh, excellent value (the sandwiches are very filling and at a good price!). Fantastic selection of deli meats and cheeses, fresh home-made sides (potato salad, macaroni salad, bean salad, etc) not to mention all of the must-haves for your pantry: flavored olive oils, marinated olives & artichokes, fresh pastas. Hubby usually orders the Godfather... I've had the Sicilian twice - it's SO good but that spicy italian sausage comes back to haunt you the next day!!

I heard from a few friends that I had to try Colombo's, so yesterday I was in the neighborhood and decided to try it. I had the clubhouse, and it was really good! The dutch crunch is probably one of the best I've ever had. They use good quality meat. I only ate my first half, and saved the other half for later. When I went back for the second half a few hours later, the sandwich was still good. Not soggy at all. I definitely will be returning!

I just had the best sandwich ever. Seriously. I had a vegetarian sandwich on a fresh baked sourdough roll. OMG it was soooooo good. First of all when I opened the white paper the sandwich looked like a work of art. The colors were beautiful and it looked SO appetizing, and the sucker was GINORMOUS! On the outside, a fresh baked (on premises) soft but crunchy sourdough piece of heaven. On the inside...artichoke hearts, roasted red bell pepper, lettuce, thinly sliced cucumber and red onion, avocado, jalapenos, pesto, yellow mustard and cheddar cheese. Everything was soooo fresh and chilled perfectly. They do get very busy so do what I do and call in your order ahead of time!

Just when I had almost given up on finding a good sandwich on this coast, I happened upon Columbo's. Great sandwiches, great service, and great imports in the store (truffle oil: Yum). It's a bit of drive from my pad in SF, but definitely will be stopping in if I'm in the area or driving through.

i dont know how i havent been coming here more often, considering i have been frequenting the 24 hour fitness nearby. i was intending to go to safeway but ran into this place. every sandwich in here is FACKING delicious. they make their own bread and the bread is the difference maker. i love this place and im always impressed. my goal, which is almost reached, is to try every sandwich on the menu. and i would have attained it but i have had repeat orders that i love to much. my one complaint is the wait, i dont know if taking your time is encouraged with the employees is but it surely seems like it. but everyone is so polite and they refuse tips, it makes up for it. EAT IT HARD my friends.

I've had several of Colombo's sandwiches, which are all very good. But the best thing about Colombo's, are their groceries. I visit once a week to pick up some authentic Italian pasta, canned goods, dried beans and deli meats. They also carry a fantastic anchovy in chili oil, which is very hard to find, which is delicious in the classic garlic, anchovy, olive oil sauce. This place is a gem in Pacifica. [Garlic, Anchovy and Olive Oil sauce recipe] 4-5 large garlic cloves, minced 1 can of your favorite anchovy brand (or the above chili oil anchovies) Olive Oil 1 tbspn butter (optional) Heat oil and butter in saute pan, add minced garlic Saute until garlic begins to color, then add anchovy can. (If using the chili oil anchovies above, don't add all of the oil from the jar, just add the anchovies) The anchovies will melt, creating a thick brown (delicious) sauce Toss with your favorite spaghetti noodles, so that the anchovy sauce covers the noodles, serve with bread and salad. Makes for a fantastic meal, though you'll want to avoid human contact for a while after eating it. :)

Ummm.... can you say OBSESSED?! I was raised on Colombo's sandwiches, and for much of my young, picky childhood I would refuse to eat sandwiches that were not made in this little shack of heaven. My family used to come here so often that the owner recognized every member of my family around town. That was around the time my mom cracked the whip and put us all on a diet. Now that I'm older Colombo's is more of a rare treat. Mostly because the wait is ridiculous (I blame yelp for much of that). I always call my sandwich in now. I really can't give and specific suggestions, because I've changed my orders around and tried basically every possibility I can think of. Their ingredients are fresh and delicious, and you can definitely get creative and not regret it here. I'm also oddly obsessed with their macaroni salad. Usually those heavy-mayonnaise dishes gross me out, but something about theirs is somehow not that awful, slimy consistency and just hits the spot when you want comfort food. I think it's the olives in it that makes it so delish. No deli will ever measure up to Colombo's. Never!

Mortadella with swiss cheese and mayo on a roll. HEAVEN. Crazy selection of meats and cheeses and yummy doodads from "the old country". Wedding pictures on the wall of thw owners and their fam - like BIG ones. This place rocks.

I eat there as often as i can and i have to say, i wish i could eat there everyday... The sandwiches are awesome and the services is stellar. Last time is was there i was served by Emil Colombo himself ! Also try the Potato and Leek soup... Delish!

In my yelp lifetime I have never written a review for Colombo's (or at least in recent memory). If you like deli sandwiches and have some time -- this is the place to come. My wife and I usually come down here for the Philly Hoagie. The sandwich is enough to fill us up along with some water and chips (when we're really looking for food). The location is in the Safeway Plaza just 2-3 store fronts left of Safeway. If you're here -- stop by and grab a sandwich. Well worth skipping the other sub sandwich places around. Seriously good....

  • Paul M.

This place is great, why would anyone ever go to the deli at Safeway when this place is right next door? The quality of the food here is amazing and it's just a good old-fashion deli. Every time I have gone to get turkey for my sandwiches, someone always brings out samples of the other meats for me to try. So, in conclusion, don't get your meat from Safeway, get it here!

    (5)
  • Heidi S.

Meatball Sandwich. That's where it's at! On the weekends, the wait is long but you can call ahead and your sandwich will be waiting for you. A tip is to come 10-15 minutes before they tell you, often times your sandwich will be soggy if you wait too long (especially if you order the veggie). The staff is usually pleasant and can rush you if it's busy. Order ahead if you're impatient and know what you want.

Great old fashion deli. More for take out than eat in but does have a few tables. Excellent sandwiches, especially on the sourdough bread. Very friendly and efficient service.

great sandwiches, fresh bread. you can't go wrong with any pick off their menu. prices are slightly on the higher side compared to other deli's but it's made up in portion as well as quality. there are a couple tables and chairs for minimal seating if needed but it's not really a place you sit down and eat. parking is ample though can still be an issue. right by the coastside so you can enjoy the view as well.

  • Ninja H.

Great sandwiches but the wait is sooooo long!!! Not a place you can "just run into" to get a sandwich. There were a lot of people that stated they had called ahead...gotta try that next time! But would rather not have to..

  • Amy J.

Super tasty sammies, interesting groceries to browse. The only thing I was not so into was the long wait for my sandwich. We ordered as soon as we got there, but it still took a good 15 minutes to make our food. Hmm... Next time, I will get my sammich on dutch crunch. The BFF had her veggie sam on it and MAN, it was tasty. Mmmm!

  • Morgan M.

Cute place that is packed with a little something for everyone. Great sandwiches made on the spot, the bread is fresh and the meat is sliced when you order. This place can get busy so be prepared but the wait is well worth it. A perfect place to grab sammies or snacks and sit at the beach for a sunset.

Best sandwiches around. Made on freshly baked bread. Meats sliced to order. Only drawback is long wait! 30 mins for a sandwich because it's that good! Call ahead for pick up. You won't be disappointed.

For deli food in the Bay Area, this is the one to beat. Their Godfather sandwich is the king of this domain. During my first trip to NYC 12 years ago, I got hooked on the deli food. Not just the traditional Jewish delis (which mostly disappointed), but the "gourmet" delis that populate just about every other street corner in Manhattan. Those gourmet delis are often nothing more than upscale convenience stores with a salad bar and a sandwich counter. But, it was at those counters that I discovered the greatness of Boar's Head cold cuts and the genius of a simple sandwich on a soft hero roll ... one that does NOT come with sprouts by default! The Italian hero, with multiple varieties of Boar's Head meats cut from the slab, and thin sliced provolone, balsamic dressing, and other toppings (again, did not have to ask anybody to leave out the sprouts) became my everyday lunch routine during the two-week stay. Come back to San Francisco, and I embarked on my quest to find a deli sandwich that measured up to those masterworks that seemingly teemed out of every random mom and pop shop in New York. I quickly realized it would take some digging. Yes, there are plenty of good sandwiches in the Bay Area, and even a few random places that serve Boar's Head. But, nothing that really took me back to the streets of New York. A random adventure about a year later landed me at Colombo's Deli. I had high hopes, but they'd been dashed before. Then I saw the Boar's Head cuts everywhere, and I saw the Godfather on the menu! FINALLY, somebody who knows the cold cut combination that unlocks the greatness of an Italian hero! I tried it, and I knew that this place gets it. I've gone back here many times over the years, and tried several different sandwiches, often buying two or three at a time so that I could save them for later consumption. All of them uniformly excellent. The Boar's Head and other quality cold cuts in their deli case help a lot, but they also bake their own bread. And they know how to put the cuts into the right combinations, which is something that most Bay Area delis don't quite get right. They don't have much seating, but when you got the ocean and the beach right there, who wants to be cooped up inside a crowded deli? My only quibble is that they've cut back their closing time to 5:30pm. When they were open until 7pm, I could at least occasionally make it down there after work. Now, I can only make it there on weekends, and it's a long trek from the East Bay to Pacifica. But, for those cravings for a legitimate Italian hero, the Godfather is royalty.

Sandwiches are absolutely delicious. I've never had a bad meal from Colombo's. It's my go-to deli and they do not disappoint. My only gripe is that it seems to be closed odd hours. Perhaps they've improved recently (as it's admittedly been a while since I've noticed this problem) but I have seen them closed randomly on a Monday or Tuesday afternoon.

I just moved to the area and stopped in for a sandwich. Nice guy behind the counter took care of me right away. I ordered a Godfather, which was made super fast. Awesome!! So big i didn't even finish half. I'm having the 2nd half for lunch today, and i think they make it on "magic bread" that somehow stays fresh, crispy crunchy in the fridge. Actually the flavors meld a little bit and are even better the next day. I can't wait to try other sandwiches!

AMAZING sandwiches. Huge portions on fresh baked bread. The ditch crunch is really good, and they have all other sorts of things to purchase. Definitely a great price and not super expensive for the quality of food.

Delicious sandwiches. The godfather with artichoke hearts is very good but my favorite is the forty niner with roast beef and blue cheese aww delicious. I was turned onto this deli a few years ago and have loved it ever since. If you ever need a reason to go to pacifica this place is definitely a good destination. The bread is real french bread, boy do I miss Parisian bakery, hard crust and soft inside. A tip to avoid the long wait: call ahead, order your food, get in your car and then pick up your order. Longest wait that I've ever had was about 5 minutes.

Great selection, sandwiches big and really good, all quality meats. Service is down home friendly. Best Deli in the bay area. I have to add one more thing, the absolute best bran muffins anywhere.

Went here for lunch. This place offer much more then your normal turkey sandwich. The staff is very friendly and hand makes each sandwich to order. Prices were reasonable. Only down side is there isn't really any seating inside but it is very close to the beach so you can always have eat there.

The sandwiches here are SO good! Made with fresh baked on the premises and loaded with lots of meat and toppings. The sandwich weighs about 5lbs. It's better to share with someone because it's huge! Give yourself time when ordering here. It takes time to make a great sandwich. My favorite is the Godmother.

Best deli in the Bay Area, hands down. No one and I mean NO ONE beats Colombo's. The Godfather is quite possibly the best sandwich I've ever had and is a hell of a deal at 7 bucks. Bread, condiments, meats, cheeses all on point. Add to that the freshly made pasta they have available in addition to the imported spices and lots of other goodness that I'm sure I'm forgetting and you have the undisputed champion of all delis.

    (5)
  • Craig K.

The sandwiches are out of this world if you like Italian delis. So far my fave is the Godfather. The quality of their meats is delicious. The service is not the speediest or stellar but tolerable. The deli is traditional where you can purchase other things such as wines, olive oils, cold cuts, and other prepared foods.

  • Nivek M.

This Italian deli has got to be in the top three Italian delis in the Bay Area, sharing that distinction with, of course, Molinari in North Beach. However, this tops my old favorite in that Colombo's is also a bakery and they bake bread fresh every day! I really like the Lt. Colombo sandwich. a heart-stopping combo of roast beef, avocado, provolone, pate, and some other stuff I can't remember right now, all piled up on a fresh baked sourdough roll. Or try any other type of veggie or meat sandwich. And while you're at it check out the huge selection of cheese, pasta, cookies, nougats, wine, etc. from the Old Country, as well as some great California wines. Like Molinari's you gotta take a number as soon as you walk in the door and be prepared for crowds around lunch time. But, if you are patient, you'll be rewarded with one of the best sandwich experiences of your entire lifetime.

Family run Italian deli, fresh baked bread (some of the best dutch crunch anywhere), fresh sliced meats and cheeses, great assortment of salads (try the potato, it's crazy good), interesting desert selections including imported chocolate treats and pannatone and some upscale sodas and drinks in the cooler...over all the best deli on the ocean and one of the best in the bay. gave an extra star for introducing me to teleme cheese...try it on the Lt. Columbo...WOW

Great sandwiches, pretty cool deli (you can ask for samples of any of the meat), and the place just has the freshest ingredients. I used to come here more, but I can't stand the wait anymore. Forget 10-15 minutes, sometimes lunch takes 25-30 minutes. Since I only have 50 minutes for lunch and the drive/parking takes 5 minutes each way, that doesn't give me much time to eat. I've tried calling ahead but sometimes they are too busy to answer the phone, and sometimes even though I've put in a order, it isn't ready yet and I still end up waiting 10-20 minutes. So due to the time crunch, it's just not a lunch destination for me anymore. But writing this review kinda makes me long for a sammy...........

Every time I am passing through Pacifica (yes, every time) I drop by Colombo's. This place reminds me of true European Deli's... they have various salami hanging from the ceiling, a couple huge deli cases overflowing with meats, Italian wines, and various Italian pastas. There are also a couple tables inside, so you can eat your sandwich and watch the regulars pass through. I always find the guys behind the counter to be helpful and polite. Sometimes you need a number, sometimes you don't (depends on how many people are in the deli). No matter if you need a number or not... they will ask you if you have been helped (who knows, someone might not want a sandwich, but might need to just buy a bottle of wine?!). I get a grilled chicken sandwich, with bacon, avocado, swiss cheese, dijon mustard, and wheat bread. The chicken always tastes freshly grilled (and sometimes there is a wait for them to actually grill it), and the bacon is nice and crispy without being overdone. Woodside Deli in Redwood City can learn a couple lessons on speed/efficiency of service from Colombo's!!!

We loved all. the sandwiches we purchased at this place and as you can tell I used the plural tense of the word; they have such a huge selection. We'll definitely go back for more next time we're in the area. =)

Great sandwiches! The Godfather and the Goldminer (or was it Fortyniner? I don't quite remember) were my two faves. Still... the lack of proper business hours (it was closed half the time I walked over there when I used to live in Pacifica) and the long as hell wait, make it tough to frequent the place. Seriously, sometimes I think they are placing each grain into the bread by hand. When you get the sammich in your sweaty little palms, it's just about worth it tho... Maybe the best option is to take a number, then go walk along the beach...then come back and place your order, then go fly a kite for a bit...then come back for a tasty lunch. I'm sure I'm being a bit harsh as it's probably one of those run-by-retired-folk places that doesn't really need the business and is doing it for leisure, but still why do you torment me so?

T H E GODFATHER!!! O M G !! so good! ate a large one in 5 minutes and wished there was a Xtra large!!! Sooo Good! defiantly the godfather is the way to go! the other sandwiches are very good too and nice assortment of imported Italian goodies

Glad I decided to check out yelp for a place to eat in Pacifica otherwise I probably would've grabbed a sandwich at Safeway. I didn't get to crazy with the special sandwich, I had salami & provolone on dutch crunch and damn that shit was like sex in the form of a sandwich. The fresh bread really makes the sandwich. Only cons about the place is that the wait time is a little long but its so worth it. Also they don't have much of a variety of sodas and chips so that I did have to buy at Safeway (which ended up not having a good variety of chips and soda as well) Oh well screw it, good sandwiches regardless.

One of my favorite places to eat. You'll get crowds on the weekends and at lunchtime especially before a Giant or 49er game but the sandwiches can't be beat.I highly recommend the Godfather but the veggie sandwich is another favorite. Call ahead if you don't want to stand around and wait because this place is very popular and for good reason. They also have a large selection of items for Italian cooking and can order specialty items for you as well.

Just thinking about Colombo's makes my mouth water. Using fresh baked bread and great ingredients means you end up with one killer sandwich. Any time my boyfriend and I are passing through Pacifica, we stop by and pick up a Godfather or two. A word to the wise, the sandwiches are pretty hefty so either go really hungry...go with a friend...or take a plastic bag and save half for second lunch. But either way you're in for a treat (and some even say that next-day sandwich is even better). The folks that work there have always been very friendly. Sometimes it takes a while to get your sandwiches if you go around lunch time, but I think it's well worth the wait. If you go in the morning (I'm talking first thing), you'll often see regulars going by for their daily bread. The first time I ever went was right when they opened that morning - it took about an extra 20 minutes after their posted hours for them to "actually" open but it was worth waiting for that bread. My workmates had been talking about Colombo's non-stop and since I'd just moved to San Francisco and was commuting back down to Redwood City, I decided to spring for sandwiches for the office. But I was a total Colombo's newbie. I couldn't even remember the sandwich name that my co-workers talked about....I told the owner and his wife (who were manning the place that morning) that it was something with lots of meat and mortadella...they of course knew it was the Godfather. They forgave my naivete kindly and asked if I had come from over the hill. I said yes. And they were so tickled, they gave me a big ol' batch of their pasta salad and a handful of Italian candies as a special complimentary treat. And a cup of coffee while I waited for my 5 sandwiches. Of course after that, I had to drive another 45 minutes with mouth-watering sandwich smell wafting through my car...absolute torture. In any case, to make a long story short, I'm a big Colombo's fan. And I highly recommend it.

Colombo's is my absolute favorite place to get a sandwich, among other things! The Godfather and the Sicilian are my favorites. I love the small family atmosphere. They have imported delicious little treats, wines and pastas from Italy. A bit pricey but if you are looking for something authentic and different you should check it out. If you're heading there on your lunch break be prepared to pick a number and stand in line for awhile but well worth the wait.

This is a tiny, family-run Italian deli off of highway 1 in Pacifica with amazing sandwiches. "The Godfather" and the hot pastrami on rye are my faves. So good. Totally off the beaten path, but a great place to stop for lunch if you are headed out of the city on highway 1. There are beautiful stretches of beach all along this highway which are perfect for picnicking. If you are prepared, try calling your order in, you will save a lot of time especially on a weekend as the wait to order a sandwich can be quite long.

I just can't seem to order anything other than the 49er sandwich. It's awesome! Anyway, if you go there at lunch be prepared to wait a very, very long time to get your order in. Try to get there at off times and your experience will be much better.

Twice recently, I found myself in Pacifica around lunchtime. Once was after a virtuous early-bird hike and once before a "c'mon, let's make something of this sunny day" afternoon hike rally. I have learned a few things from my two trips to Colombo's: 1) You must learn to find the pseudo-soviet ordering method charming. Yes, it's inefficient to wait in line once to order and once to pay, but they probably have that system because while you are waiting for your sandwich to be made, you see all sorts of other delicious treats to buy. 2) DON'T get the meatball sub. I'm not sure quite what it is, but it's just not that great. Bland sauce, mushy texture. 3) DO get the Tomaso sandwich!! It has turkey, bacon and "lots of mayo." 4) DO get a pickle. They are good. 5) DO NOT attempt to eat a whole sandwich by yourself. It will make a post-sandwich walk to the car, let alone a hike, impossible. And I don't say that lightly. I'm no 'rexi (see the "lots of mayo" comment above).

I love sandwiches and wanted to try something new. Our friend George recommended this place so we went after hitting 24. I ordered the Lt. Colombo's and it was just alright. It was pretty bland and all I could taste was the cheese. They do get crowded and busy. Some people even left and went next door to Safeway to get their sandwiches.

I go out of my way to eat at this place. Yup, over the hills and far away just to eat my beloved Philadelphia Hoagie! This place and Yo Philly's in Alameda have the most authentic philly sandwiches on the West Coast. I don't know what the other sandwiches taste like at Columbo's because I only order the Philadelphia Hoagie. My wife says the other sandwhiches are no less than great. Stop here and you won't regret it. Each sandwich is made with love and care. You may wait a while, but believe me, it's worth it!!

    (5)
  • Christine C.

Oh wow!! This place is the BOMB!! (that' a good thing) The best deli sandwiches, salads, meats etc and a good variety of authentic Italian food items. The downside is the slowness, especially at lunch time. It can be very frustrating. BE SURE TO TAKE A NUMBER WHEN YOU WALK IN! Not a place if you need to grab something quick. Well worth the wait if you have the time. You can order ahead but they don;t answer the phones when it is busy lunch time. Deli meats are higher priced... $9.99 lb for roast beef, $8.99 for fresh roasted turkey BUT very well worth it! Boar's Head brand.

The best ever! My favorite is the Tomasso's Special. Every time i come in town I have to eat here. :)

Went to Pacifica last weekend and did a Yelp search on restaurants before I went. Colombo's was one on my list. It's a totally nondescript little deli in a shopping center, off the tourist track. It's a place you'd never go unless you lived there or already knew where it was. It was really, really good. HUGE sandwiches (big enough for 2, and I can eat a lot!). Paid the same as I would have at Subway for a much bigger and better sandwich.

    (5)
  • Marcus W.

Ummmmmm, not much to say except this is the best deli on earth - I love the Tomaso....and every other sandwich they make. If you're ever passing through Pacifica, just do yourself a favor and go there, it's incredible!

    (5)
  • Robin M.

Love the sandwiches here. The dutch crunch bread is amazing. Sometimes this place gets crowded so occasionally I'll call in my order ahead of time. A little expensive, especially if you get extras or avocado, but well worth it.

Sandwich: 5 stars 30 minute wait for sandwich when it wasn't very busy: 1 star I can wait for quality food, but this was ridiculous. Maybe just bad luck, so I'll be back.

  • Karen S.

This is my favorite place to eat at in Pacifica! The sandwiches are made fresh with every order, and they're absolutely HUGE! There is such a great selection to choose from, but my absolute, FAVORITE sandwich is the "Godfather." My bf's favorite is "Tomaso's Special" and I must say, that one's pretty tasty as well. The employees are always very friendly, and you can even phone in your order! I wish they were open later because I could seriously eat their sandwiches for both lunch and dinner..they're that good!

Simply Put the best deli I have ever been to. Meats and cheeses are always fresh and high quality, Bread is cooked in house and is Fantastic. This place is worth the wait even if you go at lunch time. You can believe that I will be back for more in the future/ Joshua.

a true deli nestled in pacifica. they have endless cheese and deli meats. try one of their many specialty sandwiches, which they do a great job combining the different flavors of the ingredients to create pure deliciousness! fresh baked bread to top it off! my favorite is the their vegetarian special. authentic and gourmet italian products for sale too. these sandwiches are huge. it's perfect to split, or eat alone if you can manage. take a stroll to the beach and enjoy your meal with the views.

picked up some stuff to make lunches this week, got half of a Dutch crunch roll, some of their cracked pepper Turkey and roast beef, made my first sandwich with the Dutch crunch and Turkey, hella good!! Turkey delicious and fresh, as was the bread. plan on coming back weekly for bread and lunch meat.

Nice little deli tucked into Manor Plaza in Pacifica. Have never had anything but an outstanding sandwich there. They can get a little pricey for a sandwich but they do pile it on, it is on a large roll, and it tastes great so not really a complaint (one sandwich can feed 1.5-2 people so as long as you dont stuff yourself the price is good). Only complaint is that they are sometimes out of various styles of bread. An extra plus is interesting Italian and Spanish food that can be hard to find elsewhere.

Go before it gets busy. The sandwiches are made to order with the meats being cut and place directly in the sandwich.

A great place to get sandwiches! I recommend the Tomaso special or Roast Beef BOMB. The sandwiches are huge and can feed 2 people or make 2 meals. Make sure you try get the Dutch Crunch bread which is a bit hard but delicious.

If walking into this place during lunch hour be prepared to wait. First you wait to order a sandwich and then you wait while it's prepared. Sometimes this process can take over 20 minutes. During your wait you can browse imported foods and wine. My favorite of their signature sandwiches is the Philadelphia Hogie, it's great! Salami, cheese, and crushed red pepper. Highly recommended for anyone in the area.

    (5)
  • Brad G.

Wow, some of you exaggerate, LOL I have been going to Colombos for at least 20 years and would say the longest wait has been 20 minutes right before a Niners game. No worse than a restaraunt. I read all these reviews and it made me want to go, so I walked in, looked at their clock, ordered two specialty sandwhiches (not from their menu), then before paying decided on 3 bean salad. When I walked out, looked back at their clock. 9 minutes. Their were 4 other customers in there. Regardless of the wait, the best sandwhiches hands down. I highly recommend maple ham and maple turkey with swiss. Its even good with some pepperoni thrown in!! 5 stars!

  • W J.

I love the sandwiches from Colombo. The best in Pacifica. Their bread are made in house and they are great! Be prepared to wait in line when you go. It's a take out place so find some where nice to have a picnic after you got your food.

5 stars for great food. 5 stars for a unique ordering experience. You must stay there in the store-don't leave. I swear there is a required 45 minute waiting time which makes for tastebuds long for the delicious sandwich. I ordered my sandwiches. I noticed everyone was sort of waiting around for their orders, for quite a while. I really needed to run to Safeway to pick up some other supplies. I wanted to make efficient use of my time. I waited about 20 minutes, wondering if I should do my errand and return; I tried to gauge the other customers, their waiting, my turn etc....I decided to make a run for it. I did my errand, quick and racing, of course forgetting something. Sure enough, when I got back, the sandwich maker asked me if i wanted a certain bread or cheese. I noticed that that the choice was not inherent to the order. I felt like it was a "test" or some sort of comminication about a silent requirement for customers to STAY IN THE STORE. In my future orders, I called first to place the order and picked it up (45 minutes later) I tried to find the menu online but found some segment of it with a rotating display of the various types of sandwiches....a had to keep a written list as the sandwiche types rotated on the list so I could ge ta complete list. Sort of a game. Again, I had to work at the order. Take your time and enjoy your sandwich. A great sandwich is a beautiful thing.

  • Nicole L.

Love the sandwiches, but hate the service. I ALWAYS call ahead because it is always slow, but today I had to wait over 15 min to pick up take out! And they really shouldn't be charging extra for pickles and onions, that is standard sandwich fare. I understand charging extra for tomatoes in winter, but year-round? Yes it is a great sandwich, but I don't go there very often due to my above complaints.

A sandwich the size of a football on fresh bread for less then ten dollars (7.50 actually). Sold! The best place to get lunch in pacifica without question.

  • Jason H.

Best sandwitches you will find. They make their bread fresh daily, great sour dough!. Also foccacia bread is outstanding when they have it. This place rocks and you will know it does by the very busy lunch hour. It's a real italian deli ran by a real italian family. They are dedicated to quality and they keep a clean ship, I know, I worked their about 15 years ago.

yum. i'm not really a picnic type of guy. but my husband and i will plan outings *just so we have an excuse to get sandwiches here*. i still love the meatball sandwiches. the deli food is good, too. but really the sandwiches are more than enough for a meal.

I was very impressed with the selection of meats and cheeses! Big plus is they carry "Boars Head" and coming from New York, I fell in love with this place. By far one of the better delis out there!

I love Colombo's and have been coming here for years. If you've never been here before, make sure to take a ticket from the dispenser. First, you should know that they make their own bread. It's the best in town and way better than Mazzetti's across the street. In addition to sandwiches, you can buy meat, cheese, olives and bread to take home and make your own sandwiches or antipasto. You don't necessarily know it from looking at the deli case, but Colombo's has an amazing selection of cheeses. I'm not talking about cheddar, swiss, etc - I mean real cheeses - pecorino fresco, aged gouda, brie, bleu... You can ask for recommendations and items that are new.

    (5)
  • Sarah S.

A top-notch deli - very fresh ingredients, home-baked breads - high quality meats and cheeses. Also a good selection of gourmet grocery items to browse while you are waiting for your order. I have not tried the salads but plan to soon. BTW, the portions are huge for the $.

  • Krista C.

Alright, Joc V., I can vouch for Colombo's and tell you it is worth every point on each of its 5 stars. They spare no expense with their sandwiches--filling them to the brim with flavorful ingredients, making this predominantly vegetarian turn again and again to their chicken breast and bacon sandwich. The vegetarian sandwich (artichoke hearts, pepperocini, tomatoes, avacado, onions, etc.) makes me stave off my hunger and postpone my lunch until well after 3:00. No small task, believe me. The staff is friendly, but be warned, this place is SLOW (still worth five stars). Try to call in your order beforehand.

  • Allison C.

This old school style Italian deli has a beautiful selection of Italian imported treats. Fresh baked breads, top quality meats and cheeses, fabulous sandwiches! My favorite parts of the place is Emile, the manager or perhaps owner, not sure. There are great old photos and sausage hanging from the ceiling too!

    (5)
  • Christina D.

MMMM....Colombo's meatball sandwich makes my mouth water! I love this place!!!! The fresh baked Dutch Crunch bread makes the sandwiches taste so much more delicious, its freshly baked and a little sweet. Try to call in your order if you're in a rush, it gets busy around lunch time.

    (5)
  • Filbert N.

Best sandwiches ever! The only reason why I'm not giving it 5 stars is because it gets crowded on the weekends and you have to wait forever. Even if you try to do a phone order, they don't answer the phone. But that's not really their fault that they're hugely popular... Anyway, I highly recommend the vegetarian sandwich. But make sure to have lots of napkins--it's HUGE and spills out when try to eat it. But soooooo good!

  • Boo L.

This place has class. It screams old-world Italian deli with the Italian wedding photos in black and white on the walls and the smell of herbs and spices everywhere. Always a long wait, but the finished product is worth it. Most people wil rave about The Godfather sandwhich which is indeed good. However, the Meatball Sub---damn!!! Don't plan on eating for at least 6 hours afterward.

this is my deli now! but if i'm in the city, molinari's is the king. FOOD:~BEST headcheese i ever had. tasted like cold butter. ~all the deli meats appear to be saag brand. they didn't have some of the crazier deli meats i crave, so the selection's a little limited deli meat-wise. i must try their sandwiches. SERVICE: super nice young dudes serving it up with small town charm. he did take forever to slice the meat, but i guess i should chill out & adapt the small town pace. DECOR: typical italian deli. a little dark. OVERALL: will definitely be back!

Colombo's, in my opinion, indeed makes the best tasting sandwiches without a doubt. Each delectable bite satisfies my expectations from the first to last. Their brilliant combination use of red wine vinegar with the different types of meat in the "Godfather" is unbelievably good. The majority of the meat they use is the high quality brand, Boar's Head. All their bread is made and baked fresh daily, which explains why their sandwiches are something to savor. The key to having a great tasting sandwich definitely relies on the bread. The portions are perfect and will fill you up [For a guy my size (6'1", 238 lbs), I get filled up eating one of these for lunch]. So, all that's left is-- "What to get?" I have tried most of their "Specialty Sandwiches," and my top 4 picks are: 1) *Lt. Colombo* 2) *Roast Beef Bomb* 3) *The Godfather* 4) *Vegetarian Sandwich* (taste best on Dutch Crunch) These specialty sandwiches all come with their own default bread, but you may choose the type of bread you prefer. I personally like most of my sandwiches on Dutch Crunch due to it's lightly sweet and crunchy texture. You may also want to ask for some "Grilled Artichoke Hearts." These things are extremely flavorful. If you have some leftover bread from your sandwich, you could dip it in the "Grilled Artichoke Heart" oil it comes with. Really good! **Quick Note **: For those from the Bay, there has been a debate on what is better, "Colombo's or Little Lucca?" Little Lucca is a small sandwich shop in South San Francisco, and although their sandwiches are big, their taste nowhere comes close to Colombo's. Remember, "Quality over Quantity."

Great selection of meats, cheeses, and breads. Lunch time is always busy. Call ahead and have them make your order so you don't become impatient waiting for other people to decide on what they want to get.

I have been going to Colombo's since I was a little kid and have never found sandwiches I like more. I generally call ahead and pick up my sandwich there because the wait is usually fairly long but it is an exaggeration to call it a half an hour when there are no people around, it is closer to ten to fifteen minutes. I suggest the roast beef bomb because Colombos is the only place I know of which makes anything like it. It is roast beef, onion, cheese, roasted bell pepper, lettuce, and a super tasty vinegary dressing on a sourdough roll. I often eat half the sandwich for lunch one day and the other half for breakfast the next day.

Nothing is better than the stomach splitting "Godfather". It is easily twice the size of an ordinary sandwich, has the ability to feed a small family for two days, and tastes great. The deli has a great atmosphere and, while the wait for service can be long at times during rush hours, there are tables and chairs to sit at and a lot of wonderful things to shop for.

Awesome Subs... sometime it takes a while but worth the wait!

  • Illiena V.

Its a family owned deli, service is European-style, which means - if you are in a hurry, you need not go there. The wait is long, the service may be slow. But for those who like to relax while they are waiting for their food - there is a cafe down the street, health food store across the street, and Safeway - if you really have ants in your pants and must move around. When you finally get that sandwich - you will know what gastronomic heaven is! They are huge, too. You can split them with a loved one(if you feel generous). Roast Beef Bomb is my very favorite. All their food is classy, not cheap, not fast, made with thougtfullness. This aint your McD, baby...

I love Colombo sandwiches! I usually go for the roast beef on sourdough, but I have tried their other sandwiches and they're always right on. The ingredients are always fresh and the staff is friendly. I'm taking off one star because there is always a wait. While I know that they can't help the rush, the place can get a bit discombobulated. Even so, this is still my go-to sandwich joint!

The sandwiches are the size of your forearm. I love their meatball sandwich with marinara on Dutch crunch. The last time I tried it with muenster and it was mmm mmm good!

What's not to love about Colombo's? Well, I suppose a long wait at lunch time could be a minus, but call in your order & you're set to breeze in 'n' out. This place has an authentic Italian deli spread, complete with high-end/imported cold meats, cheeses and delish salads. Home made dutch crunch--it goes fast! Plus, a decent selection of wines and other noshes. I shop there almost exclusively for my summer Sunday gatherings at The Grove, as well as other picnic/party events throughout the year. Oh, and while you're there, try the Morbier--you'll be hooked! ;)

  • Joc V.

The only thing that keeps me from giving this deli its 5-star props, is the fact that I've only had one kind of sandwich from their full menu of deli items. That's like giving Meet Joe Black a thumb's up just 'cause Anthony Hopkins is in it. I keep coming back to the Phillly Hoagie, an obscene creation of layer after layer of coppa salami, prosciutto, genoa salami and provolone, all held together by a drizzle of olive oil, crushed red pepper on a sweet french roll. The drive to Colombo's takes you through fog-drenched Highway 35 to Pacifica, but low-carb diets be damned...this sandwich will make the trip well worth it.

  • Kimberly H.

Best sandwiches you will find around here! I enjoy the meatball and Italian sandwich most. These sandwiches could definitely serve more than one. This place gets crowded and you might end up waiting 30-40 minutes for your sandwich if you get here at the wrong time. This was my favorite place to get a sandwich after school. I shall return soon!

Sadly I never got as far as trying the food. My partner and I walked in and there were 2 people waiting for food. We grabbed some drinks and went to the counter and a woman came over and asked if we had a number. we said no ( didnt see numbers) she asked the other couple if they had a number and they said no. She ignored us and waited for someone else to come in the door, asked them if they had a number......they said no as well. After looking around, we found it, but the couple who came in 5 minutes after us took the number and she waited on them. She did not offer any help and was very abrupt, we feel the entire situation could have been handled better. She was rude. We wont go back again even though now we know where the numbers are.

Love Colombo's. Their sandwiches are great--very fresh ingredients. I love it that it's family run, and the people are incredibly nice. Sometimes a bit chaotic and can take a while if it's crowded, though the food is worth the wait. I wish they did half sandwiches, though, because I just cannot finish a whole one, and I prefer whole wheat bread (which doesn't keep in the fridge). Wish I could rate 4.5 stars for those two admittedly dinky quibbles, but I'm not about to knock down a whole star for that.

This is one of Pacifica's gems that I hope no one else finds! The family-run deli has been at this location for year and also has another branch out in Hillsborough (I think - it some other fancy schmancy bay area city). The deli has very reasonable prices on a plethora of cheeses and meats. They also have tons of imported foods from Italy and Greece. Their superstar claim to fame (in my opinion) are their deli sandwiches. I love their philly hoagie (no tomatoes, no onions) with a 1/2 pint of macaroni salad. Perfect to share lunch with a friend.

Colombo's not only has the greatest lunch meats in Pacifica, but I believe you'd be hard pressed to find anything better in North Beach itself. We are suckers for ultra thin sliced meats and boy is this ever the place to get them sliced just as ordered. Their house-baked ham is to die for along with their cured olives and spicy Jalapeno "poppers" (I think they call them something else but they're Jalapeno's stuffed with Mozzarella and are sooo addictive) they also carry a wonderful assortment of cheeses. At Colombo's you can find a very impressive wine selection at reasonable prices. The staff is so accommodating, especially Emil and his Family. They bake their own bread and you may be lucky when you stop in if they have available their Fresh Baked Focaccia Bread (delicious). Why anyone would go next door to Safeway for a sandwich or to buy lunch meat is beyond me!

This place is off the charts when it somes to sandwiches. they have the freshest indgredients and make their own bread. I had a friend who lived down the street and we used to go there on Sunday's to cure our hangovers. You will get more than enough food for a meal and a half with one sandwich. This place is a top 5 sandwich in the bay area for sure. The only reason it is not a 5 star is based strictly on the length of time and ease of ordering your sandwich. They use a numbering system inconsistently, and even if you are the only one in there ordering it is going to take you 25 minutes to get 2 sandwiches. All of that being said, if you have the time it is more than worth the wait.

Super huge, delicious authentic Italian san-wiches. BEST-IN-THE-CITY! So good I have to say it with a Brooklyn accent.

One of the best delis that I know of. The sandwiches here are AMAZING, but all the prepared foods and knick-knacks keep me coming back for more as well. I have to come here for swim meets, and anytime I'm in town, I'm sure to stop into Colombo's for a sandwich. So far, I've tried the Boston Grinder, Godfather, Philadelphia Hoagie, and Tomaso's Special. The BEST sandwich by far, however, is the Lt. Colombo: Roast beef, turkey, lettuce, tomato, teleme cheese and the best parts, pesto and pate. On a sourdough roll (which they bake fresh everyday)... AMAZING!! I've also tried the frozen gnocchi here which was great along with some freshly sliced prosciutto. This place is so good, I think I drooled a little on the keyboard. The staff has been working there a while so they are very knowledgeable and friendly to boot. Dare I say that a more perfect delicatessan does not exist? I do!

they serve BOAR'S HEAD deli meat, people. enough said. i don't even know where else to find b.h. meat in the city so we have to make these sunday afternoon drives to pacifica for sandwiches/beach (they close at 3pm FYI). and it's well worth it. even the next day when you're crunching through the sand in the leftover half of your sandwich, you'll thank Colombo's for being so damn EAST COAST good.

This is my favorite deli south of SF. The roast beef is nice and RARE. The bread is freshly baked. Yumm!! Great service, but yes, it can be time consuming. I highly recommend the Godfather and the 49er.

very good highly quality sandwiches. they're big enough to just share so it comes out to be a pretty good deal for the price. this place is also a market that sells things like olives, pasta, oils, etc etc. id be here all the time if the wait wasnt so long.

  • Christina R.

Great sandwiches, lousy service. When you're craving a really good (read: not Subway) sandwich, this is the place for you, but as the other reviewers said, their hours are limited, they only give it to you 'their way', and they are terribly disorganized. Having said that, they do have little delectables it's hard to find somewhere else (although you shouldn't really get wine from them, because it isn't kept very well, and gets too warm). If they're still in business, they must be doing something right, but golly, how hard is it to smile, folks?

Love this place! The sandwiches are huge. Definitely can't eat in one sitting. Being from the East Coast I've been looking for a good hoagie place out here! They are super slow, but I agree that it's worth the wait.

the highest grade sandwich hands down; boars head meat, fresh bread, and the best quality of ingredients I've ever tasted. You simply cant beat it. A huge recommendation, order on the phone before you get there specially on the weekend or you might be there for a while. its like you cant build Rome in a day so don't think your sandwich should be made in a couple of minutes

Colombo's used to make a hell of a sandwich if you were willing to invest the time and $$$. However the last time three of us went and we waited for probably 45 minutes (it wasn't lunch time!) for the sandwich guy to assemble our sandwiches. He totally confused the ingredients and smushed the sandwiches all up in the paper so it was a soppy mess. I don't know what they're smoking here--they move at negative warp speed and still mess up.

Vegetarian in a Deli shop...What do I eat in here?..... I had the same question on my face...:)!...Maybe the guy behind the counter saw it. he turned out a great sandwich for me...:)...The place is lil different than any deli I have seen... a very welcoming atmosphere....tons of Italian goods...most looks like what you might find in A.G.Ferrari or some store similar......you have to take a token like in a DMV and wait for your turn to order,... the place seems always crowded..I waited for 20 min to place order and another 20 to get it...in some ways that is a good sign.... you sort of know that ur food is gonna be good... I ordered veggies sandwich+ a veggie gumbo(they ran out of tomato bisquew/ fennel...:(((!!)+ a bag of chips......all for total of $14+ dollars...Well! a girls gotta eat:). anyways...Thats was the idea... to eat it all....I wasn't able to finish half a sandwich..The sandwich is full of veggies.... no kidding!!!... and here I thought subway was the only 'actual' sandwich with some veggies in it..so ...It is very fresh, filling and weighs a ton..:)... Only -ve is the bottom bread turned out lil bit soggy.....I did eat the sandwich right away in the shop.....a minor point since I enjoyed the sandwich throughly..... The veggie gumbo was normal...nothing I was too excited about... bag of a brand potato chip..yay!... as always:)).. all in all... a shop to watch out for in Pacifica,CA...which I don't visit often....but wish I did... After a heavy lunch here( along w/ a take home for dinner)....take a hike in the nearest Mori point... and you can call it a day!! P.s: I had a nice feeling that their coffee might be good...My 'waiter' (for want of better word) said their coffee machine broke.....so if he is a person who reads this review at some point...'please fix it!!!'..I plan to visit pacifica often this summer:)

Simply the best sandwich shop in the San Francisco area. Located in Pacifica near Manor dr. In a little shopping center near Safeway. Buy any sanwhich, one is always enough for two people of normal appettite along with chips or salad and a drink. Head on over to the pier to watch the waves. And enjoy One great sandwich.

I agree with the previous posts. Colombo's is a great deli, but seriously could they work any slower. It could take you 20 minutes to get your sandwich when your the only one in the deli.

best deli on the west coast. seriously. owned and operated by the nicest family ever. fantastic staff, always remember your name and what you like to order. extremely popular and crowded at lunchtime. faster service if you call in your order. the food is the best you'll find, prices are very reasonable. one sandwich can feed two, easily. a couple of tables and chairs available, with the newspaper. anything italian you could possibly need, you'll find it here--wines, staples, cookies, candy, and of course all the meats and olives and cheeses and dishes in the deli section. this deli is one of the reasons i would hate to move away from pacifica. it's the perfect place to grab sandwiches and chips and drinks and head to the beach with friends.

Anyone who gives this deli less than 5 stars (okay...I can understand a four-star from those who just can't commit) doesn't know a great thing when they taste it. They are a family-owned business that have been at it for 20+ years and, as a native Pacifican, I have had the culinary pleasure of their catering, sandwiches, salads, lasagnas, etc. I have never been disappointed in my two decades worth of patronage. The breads are all made fresh and I feel Pavlovian when I just think of the sourdough! A little piece of heaven! There are two generations of Colombos at work everyday. They treat both the new and returning customer with respect and genuine friendliness. The rest of the staff are always friendly and knowledgable about the vast array of meats and cheeses that are offered (or can be ordered). In my opinion, you get what you pay for and great things come to those that wait. Patience is a virtue my friends. This isn't Subway. These are custom-handmade sandwiches. The meats are not pre-sliced and stacked in advance. Each sandwich meat is freshly sliced for YOUR sandwich. I expect a wait if I'm a walk in. If I'm in a rush, I can call ahead and it will be waiting for me. Besides, this place is right off the beach! I have been to deli's throughout the Bay Area, as well as New York, L.A., and Philadelphia and I haven't tasted anything that comes close to the dependable sandwich ecstacy that I experience each and every time I leave the store and open that sandwich!

  • Fred Andrew L.

The Customer Service here is non-existent. Colombo's needs to realize that regardless of how good the food is, people still like to get good service when they shop. Employees don't look at you, and often move EXTREMELY slow. Its rather pathetic really.

best deli in town but lacking in the veggie options. be smart - call ahead for your sandwich order.

  • Amanda L.

This is a great place to grab a sandwich after a day of surfing. I've been trying to find a good place to eat around Pacifica but this is by far the best - why is that places get away with serving lower quality food once you leave the city limits? I'm not sure if it's becauase I'm ravenously hungry when I get there but the service seems a little slow (and there's usually a short line) but the people behind the counter are always nice and friendly. It's also worth the wait. They bake their own bread daily and they've got high quality deli meats from SF & NY.

  • J C.

one of the best sandwich spots in the bay area. its in this little strip mall, probably wouldn't notice it if you weren't looking for it. but you'll remember it once you try their sandwiches, They are gigantic! you'll either finish half and have enough left over for your next meal, or finish the whole thing and not have to eat the rest of the day. I love their roast beef sandwich. their freshly baked bread is perfect. They also have a lot of interesting items if you are grocery shopping (various cheeses, wines, pasta). as others mentioned, be sure to grab a number. the wait can be a little long, but worth it!

Sadly to say, the deli that I have been going to for great sandwiches over the past 8 years, has diminished in sandwich quality and customer service. More than 3 times, Colombos has taken down my pick up orders incorrectly, leaving me with sandwiches that did not have the adds requested, but we were charged for!! Only having to find out sandwich only had a piece of lettuce, meat, and a piece of cheese, when we got back home with order. Finally made a call to let them know error, because it happened more than once, and experienced a debate-like conversation with the woman supervisor of the deli at that time. Ending up feeling like the sandwich orders were wrong because I ordered the wrong thing, and that my opinion meant nothing to them, because all she continually said was "We will take it into consideration...." when I told her they should listen more carefully to customers orders and follow their deli notes while making sandwich. Good sandwiches, which seem to only depend on who is working there at that shift.

I asked my girlfriend to find me a place that makes a good steak sandwich close to home. She found Colombo's Deli via YELP and I have to say.... This was one of the best steak sandwiches I have ever had! I walked in and was met with a warm smile and friendly greeting by one of the nice ladies behind the counter a definite plus. I ordered the the steak sandwich and the gentlemen behind the counter I believe his name was Emeril ( sorry if I misspelled your name) was very polite and friendly before I knew it my order was ready. Something that grabbed my attention right away was watching the staff constantly washing their hands not just rinsing them like you most people do, but actually taking the time to use soap MAJOR PLUS! Staff was awesome! Food was outstanding! They get 5 stars from this guy! I'm hooked!

Amazing sandwiches, the deli case is full of the most amazing things, the place smells like if heaven moved to Italy, and the family that runs it is SOOO sweet and friendly. Only drawback? They are busy around lunch time on weekends so prepare for a wait. However, I am not sure if this is really a "drawback" because I don't blame all those people for wanting the same amazing food I want! :)

i've found myself craving colombo's which, given that i've only been there maybe five times, says a lot. colombo's is a small italian family-owned deli - which i like. i'd much prefer to patronize a local business than some chain like subway or quizno's. sure, you may have to pay more, but most of the time you get your money's worth - especially here. they have a large offering of sandwiches with all sorts of italian meats and cheeses, including a smoked salmon sandwich and a veggie option. there is also a choice to "build your own sandwich." i, personally, do not know much about italian meats (and i am lactose, so i'm not much for cheese), but i've experienced the staff to be very friendly, so i am confident that if one day i finally choose to ask what alla that up on their menu is that i don't understand, they would entertain me without complaint. also, i am one indecisive mf'er, so when i get there i usually am standing there for a hotttttt minute reading every single sandwich description and weighing carefully what exactly might please my tummy right. the staff has always been attentive, asking if i am ready to order or if i've been helped - and i just tell them i am still deciding and they leave me alone until i am ready. they have a case of prepared foods, as well (lasagna, coleslaw, some other items; i've not tried any of these yet), including something like seven varieties of olives to choose from (OLIVVVVVVVVVESSSSSS!!!!!!!!). there are other italian grocery items, candies, baked goods, and the standard chips and soda. i haven't been there enough times yet to determine what my favorite sandwich of theirs is, but i have to say...the veggie one is something special. one might think a veggie sandwich is a pretty lame choice to go for, ESPECIALLY at an italian deli, and i admit - it is. but you know....their veggie sandwich is hearty. it's delicious. and it doesn't make me crave meat, which is pretty amazing because i am as carnivorous as a beer-swigging, pork rind-eating, football-watching, nut-scratching uber man's man (STEAK, RAWR!!!!!!) my only real complaint about colombo's so far is their sourdough bread - IT'S SO HARD TO EAT SOMETIMES! one time my top teeth straight SLID off the bread as i tried to bite into it, and for someone who has tmj/tmd - that was a NO GO. my jaw gets tired and sore easily, so i think from here on out i will go with their dutch crunch, which is a lot more manageable to chew. and lastly, fyi: they do not have a tip jar, but they do accept tips, so if you are so inclined, please tip them! this yelper thinks they deserve it.

Colombo's is sandwich heaven! They bake their own bread right there (their Dutch Crunch is the best I've ever had), use the best quality meats and have a great selection of their own creations. There are all kinds of specialty foods prepared in the deli as well. And they have a wonderful array of imported specialty foods like pastas, beans, rice, vinegars, wines and all kinds of other little surprises as well. And now, to top it off, they have the fantastic spiced meats that are out of this world. The Rosemary roasted Turkey is absolutely orgasmic!! I've had sandwiches from all over the peninsula, some of them really good, but Colombo's is the best, good enough to drive from the city for, and I do. It's the ONLY sandwich place I'd wait for half an hour to place an order. Good eatin' , folks :D

Colombos is definitely my go to spot for incredibly delicious deli sandwiches when Im in the area. Everything is so fresh and tasty. They also have good potato salads, macaroni salads, deli meats, cheeses & they make their own bread & pasta. Because everything is so damn good they are pretty busy so either call in your order or prepare to wait a lil bit.

Love the selection of sliced meets. They're the only delicatessen I know that carries Smoked Mozz. Delicious. The bread that they have is on par with Little Lucca and Ike's. Granted, this may be a hole in the wall but it taste delicious. Best Dutch Crunch around, if you're into Dutch for a sandwich, I prefer soft or ciabbatta bread. Excellent crunch, fresh veggies, and premium meat slices. I mean really, who puts artichoke hearts into a sandwich? Can you name a Delicatessen that does this? I can, Colombo's! Make sure that you have some extra gas to go back up the hill from Pacifica. It's not pleasant to get stuck. But, if you do, definitely go to the pier to enjoy your sandwich. Watch for birds, they're thick as thieves! Note: They can customize your sandwich, just let them know. They're friendly and hospitable human beings.

I went here a few months ago, so my memory is kind of starting to slip, but here's what I do remember: 1.) They sell sandwiches, and they taste amazing. 2.) Dutch crunch.

Walk-in, take a number. Get distracted by homemade breads, lovely pickles of all sorts, huge cheese selection, obscure spices, european sodas. Sometimes I feel like I am in Italy, but alas the fog rolls in and I am just in Pacifica- eating the best sandwich ever created! I get the veggie on sweet roll with swiss with everything on it, my dining partner always gets the Lt. Columbo on dutch crunch. We picnic at Linda Mar and let the dog run around on the beach.

Every time I am down this way I go to colombo's.....I know the wait at lunch is ridiculous.....but the sandwiches are just that good.....the Meatball is rocking, the chicken breast (on fresh baked bread, bacon, avocado, peppers and tomatoes).....amazing...... Highly recommended

  • Wendy K.

LOVE it!!! They make their own bread every day - the sourdough is excellent. You can select from their very creative sandwich menu, or request your own - either way you will receive an awesome sandwich!! They also have hard to find imported canned goods, pastas, & olive oils which are reasonably priced. They do not have much of a seating area, but you are just a few blocks away from the beach, and Pacifica pier which is perfect for picnics. Expect a wait during the lunch-time hours, but it is definitely well worth it!!

This place has got the best sandwiches I've ever had the pleasure of eating. They use freshly baked breads, high quality meats, and the portions are HUGE! Seriously, my BF and I shared one and were fully satisfied. My absolute favorite of all is the Lt. Colombo. It has roast beef, turkey, liver pate, pesto, and some sort of delicious cheese (mozzarella?) along with all the usuals (tomato, lettuce, etc). Highly recommended. Only downside is that sometimes you have to wait for a long time to get your order - BUT you can call in and pick it up, which negates that issue.

I absolutely love/have loved/will continue loving the food at this place. One of the unique characteristics about this little gem by the coast is that they have stayed true to providing good quality food that you normally will not find at your local grocery store or Safeway. They have a lot of amazing food imported from Italy, and the dairy/meat products are top notch as well. The last time I passed by here, they had a special caprese salad sandwich with heirloom tomato and their own mozzarella, they dressed it up with fresh basil and some olive oil, and it tasted absolutely amazing. The second time I passed by they didn't have this sandwich anymore, but they did have some other amazing sandwiches that come loaded with meat and condiments as well. I also got some meatballs and cheese to cook with back home, as you would imagine from the five stars and the fact that all the other things here tasted great, the quality of this was just as great. TL;DR: Recommended without any reservations whatsoever

Came here Sunday thinking mmmmm sammiches. I don't understand the 4.5 star rating of this place. I usually like mom & pop sorta places, but this place (I'm hoping it was just an off day) did not hit the spot. I don't buy the fresh baked bread gimmick of this place, b/c the bread my sandwich was made with was as tough as day or two day old bread. I had to microwave my sandwich at least 1 min when I got home to soften it. If I wanted my bread that hard, I would've just picked up a loose brick or two out of my backyard and gnawed on that all day. I'm willing to try this place again in hopes it was just an off day. I also wish their deli sliced salami was the same as the one they put in their Godfather sandwich.

  • Jen M.

    O. M. G. A new sammy place! I've had both the Godfather and the Philadelphia Hoagie. Both were A-MAZING. Freshly baked bread, amazing flavors. You do need to pick up a ticket when you get there, and it's a bit slow, but SO SO SO worth it. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

I love this place. For 10 years I have been coming here. It's the closest east coast deli I could find. My favorite is the Philly hogie. They are so cool they don't even want a tip just want u to come back and eat.

Great Sandwiches! Every time I go to this deli, I am completely satisfied with the sandwich I order. They are very filling. I generally can only eat 1/2 and save 1/2 for the next day. If you do not want to wait- because they are sooo good, they seem very busy. You may want to call ahead and place your order. They are definitley worth the wait. Thank you :)

ok so since my last review, I've been here a few more times. a few days ago I went in and ordered just a roast beef sandwich on a sourdough roll, no onions and extra mayo. I got everything but the extra mayo. that calls for 1.5 stars off, because if I ordered it and paid for it, I expect it Then today, I order the same RB, No onions and today I wasn't feeling lettuce so it was minus lettuce too. and of course Extra mayo on a sourdough roll. I get the sandwich, and the bread is hard as a rock, NO EXTRA MAYO and just a thin spread of mayo and mustard, and just pickles along with the RB. Ummmmmmmmmmmmm, what happened to the other ingredients? so again 1.5 stars off. I should give a 1 star in total because again, if I pay for it, I'd like to get what I ordered. Both sandwiches on both of those days were not very delicious. I'll travel an extra 10-15 miles to get a better tasting sandwich and exactly what I ordered. I'm disappointed.

If you love a great sandwich, this is the place to find it. I find myself looking for reasons to drive down the one just so I can stop here to buy a sandwich (not that you need many). The sandwich list is amazing and I always find myself struggling to decide. The ingredients are fresh and varied and they do not skimp on quantity! I've never been disappointed. I've visited several other great delis around the Bay Area (Lucca's in Castro Valley, Genova in Temescal), but this one is a half step in front of the others.

  • Nate R.

GREAT SANDWICHES! All I can say about this place is it's truly gourmet. It's a wonderful little Italian deli and has the typical small deli items as well as delicious sandwiches that are huge and full of flavor. My favorite here is the Lt. Columbo, which is a combo of Turkey, Roast beef, pate, pesto, etc. Downside to this place is they are very slow. An average sandwich can take 10-20 minutes and during the lunch hour I've actually waited an entire hour to get my sandwich. Calling ahead is a must during the busy hours. Staff is nice, but not incredibly friendly. They do their jobs well though.

  • Mikaela S.

Yum! So much to choose from! More of a selection compared to roxie's and little lucca's. I tried the lt. Colombo special and the godfather. All of their bread is freshly made, and they have so many unique meats and cheeses. While you wait for your sandwich you can sit at a table or shop around for imported wines, olives, cheese, pastas, and other canned imported goods. The price isn't bad at all and the ingredients are fresh and GENEROUS! The only con is that there aren't that many places to sit, but you can always order to go. Love this place and I highly recommend it!

Close and convenient and good prices. came here to check out their stock and so far two thimbs up. I will continue to keep getting their fresh baked Dutch Crutch. It is delish! So much so that my son says he doesn't like "regular bread" sandwiches in his lunch now!LOL Tried some of their lunchmeat and so far really good. Had the homemade Pepper Turkey they do and some Mortadella. Also bought some ladyfingers to make Tiramisu from scratch. All came to about $15. what a deal!

I've lived in Pacifica for 8 years now. A few years back I delivered Frito Lay chips here for about 3 years. I always have enjoyed the selection of deli foods here. And there is a certain unmistakeable ambiance that comes with an italian deli that is an important part of your experience. From the floor to the salami hanging in front of the cash register to the foccacia bread on the side. When you walk in you are taken to a place not in pacifica, and you will feel a sense of comfort knowing you will get good food to eat just by observing everything around you. You will automatically think in your subconscious mind that they know how to make a sandwiche here. That you aren't stuck at subway ordering a vegetable sandwiche. Even more important that isn't focused on as much is the good people that work here. I personally know the owners and did business with them, they are hard working honest people. Salt of the earth. If you come to Colombo's Deli you will get good service and quality. A deli that I hope is in my toony little town forever..

Colombos makes the BEST sandwiches. Personal fav is the Sausalito turkey with pepper jack cheese, veggies and jalapeño sauce. Just the right flavor - spicy with a hint of sweet. Ask Patrick to make your sandwich, he's the best!!!!!

  • Ed B.

I have to categorize this as one of the few best sandwhich spots. The price are reasonable and lately I've been ordering by phone to pick up and they have NEVER once got my order wrong. I just love the Jalepeno spread they have and garlic spread. Establishment provides good customer service which makes me rate this joint a 5 star.

I have enjoyed deli sandwiched all over the country and Colombos is my number 1. The deli has fresh everything and the service is excellent. I grew up in a few blocks from the place and the service has never changed. I recommend the Tomaso light on the mayo and add pesto.

I've walked past this place a million times on my way to Safeway without ever stopping by until I read all these great reviews on Yelp. So glad I did! Colombo's is the real deal-- all fresh, delicious ingredients with a million different options to choose from. I went specifically for a sandwich and ordered the Godmother. It was very good. The bread was perfect- not too hard or soft- and there was no skimping on the ingredients. This was a hearty sandwich that filled me up before I even got to the other half! Personally, I like a sandwich with a lot of spreads, so I will probably try something else next time, but I still enjoyed my sandwich and plan to come back many times. If you're not interested in a sandwich, I saw some pretty delicious-looking dishes at the deli too. There was tortellini salad and a pesto pasta salad that both looked mouth-watering. Not sure if the guy at the counter was the owner, but either way he was really friendly and awesome. He's the kind of person that makes me feel like I'm spending money somewhere that deserves it. I come from a town that was overrun by chain stores and I love that Pacifica has not suffered this fate. Support local businesses like Colombo's! This place is definitely worth keeping around.

  • Hey La P.

I've been here three times now for sandwiches and cookies. The service has always beens friendly (although a little backed up at times). They have a great menu and I look forward to trying more of their sandwiches. I would have said the Chicken Breast sandwich was my favorite but the last time I ordered it the chicken was soooooo dry. You could tell by looking at it that it had been cooked for way too long. I split it with my friend and she wouldn't even eat it (thankfully we split another sandwich as well). So I may have to adjust my star rating if that happens again but I'm hoping it was just a fluke! Good cookies!!

The Godfather, you can split this with someone, and you still get full! I came here for a late lunch on my way to Terra Nova High School. The people at the counter were all great. So helpful and nice. I sat and ate my lunch as the place was closing. They only have two small tables, so it's not a place to sit and eat, but good enough for a quick bite. They had focaccia bread that looked amazing, and it smelled great! I didn't have it, but my next trip, I will definitely get some when they bring it out.

  • Carter D.

Every time I eat here (every other day or so) I'm pleased! They make the BEST sandwiches hands down. Service is amazing, and the one time my sandwich had a mistake, Emil tool such good care of me that not only was that sandwich free, but the next one was as well! He's great, food is great, I LOVE THIS PLACE.

The better sandwich joint this side of the Peninsula. Take a number and plan to hang out for a while. The wait will surprise you. I like the sandwiches. The folks behind the counter are nice, courteous and helpful. You can't go wrong here. Oh yeah, it bums me out that they close so early. It'd be nice to have some honest high-school kids working there until 7:30p serving up some sandwiches to go. My Favorite: roast turkey, genoa salami on sour dough (no ends and scoop from the top bun), light on the mayo, deli mustard, tomato, jalapeños. Yum.

Best sandwich ever. Especially their dutch crunch bread. So off the hook....

  • Liz D.

This deli has the BEST sandwiches. My sister and I always share the vegetarian. It's too much for one person, I'm full with my half. The staff are great, very friendly. I'm so glad my sister introduced me to this deli.

The folks who work here are super cool and take great care in making all your sandwiches! Quality bread & meat + great service = Happy Jade A must when you're in the area :)

Totally bummed :( So I was In a total deli mood when I yelped to find a great place for sandwiches, and close by. We looked up the menu ahead of time, got excited and headed over. Read the menu again to make sure, and ordered my sandwich: Veggie sandwich they had but then I asked if they could add tuna salad (for some extra protein). I asked if it could be toasted, and he said they didn't toast. TOTAL LET DOWN!!! Ahhh I love my crunchy bread!! Then I waited ...and waited and waited. We ordered three sandwiches and no one was in there. Then as they were being made a few people came in and ordered. We kept waiting and waiting and they took so long we didn't get our sandwiches until after all the to-go people. I was super hungry and irritated and to top it off, when the food came, IT TASTED HORRIBLE! :( Plain and noooo flavor! Tuna tasted like nothing and my bfs turkey sandwich wasn't that great either...we were sad :( people were nice but it just didn't make the cut... It has such great reveiws so I'm no sure what went wrong that day....ugh

Deeeelicious, especially if you're in the mood for meat. Colombo's is a small, family-run deli tucked in a small plaza, next to a Safeway. Next to a Safeway and down the street from a Subway, how does this place stay in business? By making some damn good sandwiches. On a Saturday afternoon, Colombo's was packed full of people, waiting to order sandwiches. I came in, was kindly informed by a regular to get a number, and then I waited to order my sandwich. After ordering, I waited some more for my sandwiches to be made. They definitely put a lot of care and take their time making their sandwiches so be prepared to wait. Sandwiches are typically around $7, but considering how much they put inside each one, this price is totally legitimate. I was full after eating half of one sandwich for lunch. Out of the two sandwiches I have tried (The Godfather and the Philadelphia Hoagie), The Godfather is my favorite. It's spicy, flavorful, and very filling. My only issue was that as a result of all of the meat, the sandwiches were too salty for me. I might try customizing a sandwich next time so that I'm not overwhelmed.

I just have to say again that the Vegetarian sandwich on Sweet French is just about the best darn good sandwich I've ever had (maybe the very best ever). I'm basking in the afterglow as I type....... Oh and people: TAKE A NUMBER for Pete's sake. I can't tell you how many people fail to take a number. Newbies!

The Lt. Columbo sandwhich was an explosion of flavor. So good. I highly recommend.

  • Sarah G.

The sandwiches here are easily the best I've ever had. The bread is delicious and made fresh daily. Make sure to try the Dutch crunch! My favorite sandwich is the Sicilian but everything they have is absolutely amazing. I don't care for the vegetarian because it's got a lot of peperoncini and they can be kind of overpowering, but that's more a matter of personal taste. It's best to call ahead because there's usually a line and a bit of a wait. The grocery selection is great too. I always get my cannoli shells here.

    (5)
  • Courtney D.

OMG! This place is legit! I love that they have a small store there selling Molonari Salami for one (gave it an extra * for that) and cute little Italian treats. they can be a bit pricey Chicken & bacon Sandwich $8 but huge Italian Wedding soup $6 but well worth it and a 1/2 pint of Orzo salad btwn $3-4 It's good and always fresh I will advise you to call it in first if your close (don't want soggy bread) and have a large order cuz I did wait about 20-30 min for 3 sandwich and 2 soups.

    (5)
  • Elaine L.

Pacifica's best kept secret is out! This place has the best Italian sandwiches around! I just wished they baked their own breads too. They also have a store area where you can pick up Italian groceries; i.e. pasta, tiramisu, Italian wines, Italian candies, etc. If you are on your way to the beach on a sunny day, stop in Colombo's to pick up a picnic lunch. Come early as they always have a wait (but it moves quick).

  • Adam X.

i wouldn't say no to this place ever unless i was on a diet (rare to never). Dutch crunch with boars head whatever meats make for a killer combo sami. All you have to do is choose a side. Lunch for two with drinks and chips will run you about $30. Minus 1 star for almost no seating, and an uneven amount of chairs (basically last time, there were 5 seats at two tables, and there were four people hunched around the other 3 top), so basically one of us ate standing up?. I'd take away 2 stars, i just cant muster up the chutzpah to do it. Food gets 5 stars though.

  • Alison A.

I went here a couple weeks ago since I work nearby, and got the vegetarian sandwich. It was really good. :) Lots of different things inside, but a bit messy to eat. for veggie sandwiches i will definitely go here, but if I want something with meat in it i'll stick with little luccas.. cant beat that spicy sauce they put in it.

  • Liza S.

Really used to love this place. Seems the wait is no longer worth it. Come on, Chicken salad? You are ALWAYS out of it! This by far is the reason I kept going here. Been there 4 times in the last 3 months. Walked in, asked for Chicken Salad Sandwich, was told "we ran out" all 4 times and I walked right out. No sorry we ran out, no would you like to wait while we make more, just a "we ran out". Mind you this was at 11:30 in the morning :( There has been a few other issues with this Deli in the past. Expired products on the shelves. OVER priced items I wanted to buy for my Grandmother. Really? A can of tuna fish in oil, imported yes but $6.00? wow !! I have since found another Deli but just wanted to give them a heads up! Gave many chances just had to move on...

This cute little deli has a secret...AMAZING sandwiches. Recently, I had a craving for the ultimate sandwich and I was easily accommodated. Columbos mixed their steak sandwich with their vegetarian (It was bigger than my head and only $11.00). I dub the sandwich the "oxymoron". :) I hope to one day see this on the menu board as a permanent option. Thanks guys for making my week!

This place rocks! It is one of the last true Italian delis around. Of course the sandwiches are great. How could they not be with all those great meats and cheeses like mortadella, pastrami, copa, prosciutto, provalone etc? But what makes this place really special is all the other stuff they have...the type of food items that remind you of your old Italian grandmother, like: the torrone candy, the ravioli, the fresh focacia, the olive oils and sweets from the old country. Want some fun pastas? Stroll down their isle. They have everything from bows, to stars to paparadella to black ink squid pasta for a truly striking dish to make at home. They have a number of different olive choices, and even authentic Italian sodas like aranciata or grapefruit soda from Pelligrino. There is quite a collection of authentic Italian wines as well to peruse. It cracks me up that it gets the best ratings of ALL the restaurants in Pacifica, but this little family-owned and operated deli deserves it. Grazia Mille, Columbo's!

Love this family owned deli. The Tomasso on dutch crunch with a side of jalapeño. Soo good.

I stopped in here during my lunch break, and ordered a turkey sandwich with all the works (no cheese). It was on a sourdough roll and was fabulous! For about $6.50 I got a sandwich that ended up being my lunch and dinner. A great find! I also love the market with a variety of Italian assortments.

For me, these sandwiches are as good as it gets! In the late 90's I worked in South San Francisco/San Bruno and would often go here for lunch. The sandwiches and bread were awesome! Very filling! There is some seating in the deli, but it was always fun to take our sandwiches to a nearby gazebo and eat them overlooking the beach. I get back to the area on occasion and most recently went to Colombo's this past week. They still have my favorite sandwich, the Godfather, and the store still feels the same as it did 14 years ago. A very nice family business. The owner is always involved with serving and is very nice.

Didnt know what to expect when I arrived, but wow, amazing sandwiches. Had the philly hoagie, bread, veggies and meat were all fresh and tasty.. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other sandwiches.

  • S R.

I love this deli. Do yourself a favor and skip the fast-food lunch next time you head down to Pacifica and Half Moon Bay, and come here instead. My favorite has to be the Philly Hoagie. The ingredients are top-notch and the bread is an awesome "sweet French roll" I'm still craving. Especially when brushed with olive oil and pepper flakes, it was delicious. Not filler. Delicious! The 49er Goldminer - roast beef and blue cheese - gets my honorable mention. The sandwiches are ginormous, so if two people in your party only have mere mortal-sized appetites, you might want to go halfsies. Other than that, this place is pretty much amazing.

  • J P.

Great local deli serving amazing, tasty sandwiches!! Pros: -lots of diff kinds of meats -great service -lots of diff sandwiches - hard to find italian crackers, cheese, etc - many kinds of salads, cheese, bread, etc Cons: -only 2 tables for sitting/eatting We discovered this place when going to the Safeway next door. This is a great local deli serving up great food! The people are very kind and take a lot of care when making your food, we will be back!!

  • Jeremy B.

Best deli I've been to in the two years I've lived in the San Francisco area. If you have the pleasure of Emil making your sandwich, you will get a quality product and excellent service with a smile. I get the Godfather almost every time, but everything is really good.

  • jazzy l.

I tried the GODFATHER sandwich ($7.98). It was kind of pricey but the sandwich is huge. The guy that helped me said this was the most popular sandwich but I thought it was just okay. It tasted okay because it only had vinaigrette and oil. Maybe I should of asked for mustard. Pick a number from the tall beam and wait for your number to be called. It's not always apparent to pick a number because everyone waiting for their sandwiches just stand around.

    (3)
  • Jamie M.

Bring a book. These people take forever to make your sandwiches! The sandwich's are alright. They need more meat on them. More bread choices as well. I feel that the sandwiches are pretty generic, even considering they are using Boars Head deli meat, which is superior deli meat. I still go here, because I live close enough to walk there, and it's the only deli with Boars Head in the Bay Area, that I've noticed. Everyone is very nice though, and there is a great selection of imported Italian wine, pasta, and chocolates.

When i first moved to Pacifica, I looked around for some great places to eat. I read the reviews on yelp, found one for Colombo's, and I decided to give it a try. 3 months later and I keep coming back. This is a great place with good sandwiches. The portions are huge and big enough to share or save half for another meal. I have not tried all of the special sandwiches, but what I have I would recommend - Salmon Sandwich, Hobb's Gobbler, Boston Grinder, and 49er Goldminer. I'm guessing that if the ones I sampled are good, they are all good. Check it out!

Came up from San Diego to spend time with some Nor. Cal friends for NYE. There were a few caveats to the trip, the most important one being that I wanted to eat a really good deli sandwich before going home to die(t). Most of the places were closed for the weekend, we found out that Colombo's was open and on the way out of town. We chose wisely. Me and like 4 others in my party ordered the Godfather. The meats were choice, the bread was quality sourdough (although a bit on the "ouch this stuff cuts the roof of my mouth" variety) and the sandwich sent me back to San Diego to die(t) in peace. I'm glad I went North for NYE and I'm glad my last filthy meal was The Godfather at Colombo's.

Went to Colombo's on the advice of a cousin and it was a fabulous sandwich. My wife and I had the godfather sandwich which was so tasty. The meat was sliced perfect and there was plenty. My wife could not finish her sandwich since it was so large. Since it was my first time visiting this Deli, I wish I bought another type of sandwich and my wife and I could have shared. The service was great and the establishment has a great vibe. I will definitely go back and tell my family and friends about it.

Love love LOVE this deli. Found it after a workout at the 24hour across the highway. Ever since then it's a staple in our visits to the area. They have great selection of meat, bread, and cheese. And while you're waiting, they have a great selection of unique edibles. Best part...the folks there are always friendly. And yeah...there's only two small tables for people to sit at but I'd rather take the sandwiches outside and around the corner to the beach. =)

Mmmmmmmmmmm! Colombos is actually really, really, really, really really (you get the point) really, really, GOOD. It is definitely comparable to Little Luccas in South San Francisco. I have not been inside this deli, but my boyfriend says its clean and they have basically anything you can think of to put in a sandwich. He brought me a club sandwich on dutch crunch, and damnit............. I've actually never really had a club sandwich THAT good. Even at Luccas, I would get the roasted turkey w/ their famous garlic spread ... but this deli is so different but at the same time soooo delicious like Luccas. I haven't tried anything else yet, but by first experience, it was good enough for 5 stars. I'm usually VERY picky about my sandwiches, especially deli sandwiches - I'm not a big fan of them, but if you find a good one, I could definitely be hooked!

  • Kandi K.

This deli is, oh my God, MWAH! Best deli I've been to in a very long time. Actually it might just be the best deli I've ever been to. Period. I was about to go next door to Safeway for a cheap sandwich, but I always wanted to try Columbo's. It's that mom-and-pop type of place that I like giving business to if they turn out exceptional food. My roast beef sandwich was worth every extra penny. I never thought I'd call a sandwich succulent, but their roast beef was soooo tender! And the soft roll was soooo soft. Thank you, Columbo, for being so damn awesome. Mwah, mwah, mwah! UPDATE: Went a second time and got The Godfather for my brother. He said, "This is one of the better sandwiches I've had in my lifetime."

The clerks here are very savvy. You ask them what wine tasted good with what? And they will have an answer for you, like which cheese, and which chocolate. I love love their breads, and the sandwiches are to die for. I am from NYC, so I know a good Hero when I have one, and let me tell you, Colombo's is probably as good as I've tasted on this side with the exception of one other sandwich spot in San Francisco. Still, the price is right, and it's good. Go For it!

Colombo's serves an awesome sandwich! I have lived all over the United States, and Colombo's is in the top 10, when it comes to sandwiches. Try The Godfather, Conner's Sub, or the Roast Beef Bomb!

i want to try other things but i'm bound to getting the Godfather. i focus myself on a different sandwich every time but when my number is called i blurt out "godfather" anyway. i try to eat just half so i can save the other half for later and enjoy the deliciousness twice but i always fail. in one sitting i eat a whole sandwich which probably weighs about 2 1/2lbs. aaaaahhh i love it! and for this you will always see me at the gym! i asked if they take tips and apparently they generally don't but i leave one anyway.

This deli is absolutely incredible! The chicken gazpacho sammie with their special sauce is way too good! YUM! There's a little kick of spice in the sauce that's makes it so unique and special. Oh, those big bad cookies at the check out are homemade and delish!! Their grocery area has has a unique array of foods from Italy. The service is very accommodating and very friendly! They take extra good care of their customers. I will definitely return soon!

  • moira m.

one word: YUM! This place is delish. Yes, they'll take a while to make they're amazing sandwiches (I typically call in my order to avoid it) but, wow, theyre worth it! Also, they sell fresh delish loafs of bread- a total crowd pleaser for any dinner party.

Haven't seen a place like this since I left Philly. A cold beverage selection that is not just the usual choices although the regular choices are there too. They have a large selection of cheese including one of my local favorites: Teleme cheese (a mild young soft white cheese that is just remarkable for its texture) and they have olives in brine and other pre-prepared deli items. They have, of course, Boar's Head meats which are very high quality. We got them at the end of their day on Sunday (3 PM) and there was really no wait. The sandwich was a combo sandwich with sliced roast beef, turkey, Teleme, tomatoes, and interestingly some liverwurst all on an honest fresh italian roll. The preparer was a heavy on the ground pepper but still the sandwich was very good. We'll be back.

Hands down the best deli around. The sandwiches are out of this world delicious and if that isn't enough the people who work there are amazing. How can you go wrong with excellent customer service and excellent food. The portions are more than enough and many times has my lunch turned into leftovers for dinner. Add in the wonderful wine & cheese selection and you have yourself a top notch place to go.

  • Howard S.

Great, huge sandwiches on homemade bread. I love their sweet french roll. My wife had turkey and I had veggie. Each was enough for two meals (but we enjoyed it so much, we finished it all). They also carry Stewart's Orange Cream soda-one of my favorites. Service is friendly but a bit slow but it's fun to browse their unique, but high priced delicacies.

Colombo's is a classic deli. These are hard to find outside of San Francisco. Sandwiches are exactly what you would expect from a REAL deli, delicious and satisfying to the last bite. The people working there are very friendly and helpful. I'm so glad I found this place in Pacifica. One of my favorites here.

  • Nathan W.

As good as it gets! Seriously... And I love the old wedding photos. Other Italian places ham it up with old pics of Sinatra or DiMaggio or stills from mob movies. This place seems to keep it all in the family. Even if one of the family members looks like a thin Mario Batali...

DUTCH CRUNCH BABY! Sorry, anyway, just to let you know I am not a vegetarian and I am very critical of vegetarian dishes BUT Colombo's "Vegetarian" sandwich is really good.. ESPECIALLY with sharp white cheddar AND dutch crunch. Be sure to ask 'em to be light on the cucumbers because those things overpower the sandwich a bit with it's moisture and cold flavor. Why is it good? Because it has artichoke hearts, avocado, tangy mustard, grilled red peppers, and more stuff. It's pretty packed. Maybe next time i'll throw in some salami. Oh yeah. I've tried the roast beef sandwich and the clubhouse (ham, mayo, and more stuff)... all their sandwiches are large and packed to the max ($6 to $8). I uploaded photos of both the club and the veggie for your enjoyment above. Other than that, you get service with a smile from both the family who operates the place and the employees who are also it's customers. That's a good sign trust me. Cons: Only two eat-in tables, long wait for food.

  • Maureen M.

We really had our hearts set on some fish and chips from camelots, but they were closed. Columbo's is a really cool italian deli and their sandwich names are really cool too. I had the sicilian, and it was pretty awesome, especially with a cherry coke =) But the bread was so soft and delicious because they bake their own bread. We arrived at 2pm on a Sunday, and there was no line. If we are ever in town, I am totally stopping by to pick up a loaf or three.

    (4)
  • Eric S.

The sandwiches are as amazing as the bread they are made on! The wait can be a little long but it is worth it and the servings are huge. If you're looking for a good sandwich in the area this is the place to go. I personally recommend the godfather which is easily one of the best Italian sandwiches I have ever had.

    (5)
  • Trav W.

The sandwiches here are so effing good I don't care that it takes a week and a half for them to be prepared. Being essentially so similar from one place to the next, deli sandwiches are really about the proportions of the ingredients and Colombo's has the knack. Something as simple as a turkey sandwich on a sourdough roll is transcendent here. The bread is always very fresh (sometimes still warm) and the quality of their meats is also above average, which is a special achievement when it comes to cold cuts. Be forewarned about the wait, if you order said turkey sandwich it will take them a little while to slaughter, pluck, clean, cook, and slice the turkey, reap the wheat, grind it into flour, bake the bread, let your cucumbers pickle, raise the onions from seed, wait for the chickens to have eggs, whip those eggs into mayonnaise, pulverize some mustard seed with a mortar & pestle, chop down a tree, shred it into a pulp and make the paper to wrap your sandwich. Get the picture?

An Italian Deli doesn't get better than this, fresh made bread, generous sandwiches, and deli cases full of hard to find italian far - and cheeses too! The only bummer is the lines are long, and the staff is a bit grumpy sometimes when it gets crowded. It's worth it. Don't forget to grab a ticket on entry.
