The service was as amazing as the chilaquiles. Our server Celeste was fantastic. Reasonably priced and a good variety of food choices.

First the lady said it was going to take 15 mins to get seated we waited over 30 mins and I asked her what's taking so long she said that she is waiting for the other party to finish eating!!!!! I asked her how she is calculating the time of other people eating. Secondly we finally got our table and it took 10 mins to get our drinks and the menus. We order chorizo with eggs and sirloin steak with eggs the eggs weren't cooked well they were still raw and the chorizo with eggs were over cooked it was too dry! They also forgot my french fries. The waitress made it up by not charging us for the chorizo with eggs and some drinks That's why I gave a one start and not a 0 star

I usually go to BG's when I'm craving breakfast for lunch or if I'm in the area early enough to sit down and enjoy some good hot breakfast. Depending on the day, parking can be a hassle but this time we walked over from a few blocks away before the Christmas Parade started. The service at BG's is always pretty good. The hostess and waitress are usually the same person and they are always friendly and accommodating when seating or taking your order. As for the food, I ordered the country fried steak and eggs with hash browns, wheat toast and an orange juice. I've had quite a few of their meals but this is the one I've been going back for the most often. The country fried steak is really good.. The gravy they drizzle it with is what makes this a must try. Unfortunately they didn't have biscuits at the time but I'm sure pairing them together would be heaven. The eggs and hash browns taste as good as anywhere else so there is nothing special there but I hear their home fries are the business. I'm sure you can find better breakfast spots in different parts of Oxnard if you have time but as far as downtown Oxnard goes, BG's is the spot! OOOO 4 out of 5 Afros

My brother and I stopped in for breakfast this morning. I ordered the chile verde omelet with cottage cheese side. He ordered pancakes, eggs, and bacon. I liked my omelet. I thought it was good. My brother did not like his breakfast at all. He said the pancakes were over done, and to me they looked like it. He also said his over medium eggs were a bit over-cooked and the bacon tasted like it had been precooked. He also said the toast looked like it had been buttered but sat somewhere long enough for the butter to dry up. So while he ate it all, it was not a favorite and he would not go back. Me, I might go back with my husband and give it another try. I can almost guarantee he will try the chicken fried steak.

This is the third time we've eaten here. The food is good and the service is too. I got the pancake combo and my wife got the breakfast burrito. You definitely won't leave this restaurant hungry. All the kids were stuffed!

My son and I recently went to BGs for lunch. The restaurant is a cute, little diner with adorable backward running clocks on the wall. We decided on Chorizo omelets, & a healthier side of fruit. When we reçeived our order, I noted the omelets were good size, & were completely delicious! Also, the waitress was very friendly & attentive... We'll be going back again soon!

Sunday morning, no kid, no husband, decided to have a "lonely breakfast". Googled the nearest cafe & headed over. Rough start. I was sat immediately, sat for 5 min, ordered my coffee, sat for another 10min...Not one waitress in that time anywhere! I was just about to get up & leave and someone came over. I grumbled about needing coffee & being stranded for 15min. There was an apology & quick coffee delivery. After that initial hiccup, I enjoyed an average breakfast. I more enjoyed the scene of regulars & history this place oozes. A regular Main Street breakfast kind of place where service & dining is good only if everyone knows your name.

The food is awesome I'm a sucker for chilaquiles so I decided to try them out they had full flavor not spicy but nonetheless still delicious. The home fries are really good too they cut them super thin and they have an awesome crust full of flavor because of the flat top. Clean restaurant nothing fancy but it's a good place to come and eat some breakfast without all noise. I would have gave it 5 stars but the service wasn't what I expected..... First of all the waitress wasn't friendly she didn't check up on us at all. As a regular came in she gave him all her attention he was served in less then 5 min! But other than that it was a good experience next time I come I'm requesting the lady with the curly hair she seemed Xs more of a people person!

CLASSIC DINER in downtown Oxnard that's been serving grub since 1971. Great thing about BG's is it's strong support of fund-raising efforts by the various local youth organizations. That dedication deserves our business for sure!!! They're creating all sorts of comfort foods to indulge in. We came for breakfast one weekday morning and things were a little busy. Looks like they've maintained the vintage 70's look & feel. We sat ourselves but were well taken care of despite the hustle and bustle. After a quick look at the menu, we didn't have to wait long to order and sample a few items... *COUNTRY FRIED STEAK & EGGS: Thin cube steak is what's battered here and is on the smaller side of CFSs I've been served, still tasty and not too salty. Eggs were perfectly prepared. Hash browns weren't as crispy as I wanted despite the request for extra crispiness. *MEDITERRANEAN OMELETTE: Good sized omelette that was reasonably stuffed. Not chintzy on the feta cheese as well. Tasty mix of flavors that made this omelette yummy! *CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKES: They DO NOT serve waffles here (too bad for me), only varieties of pancakes and French toast. No kids options either. So the munchkin indulged in some Man-sized choc chip buttermilk pancakes. On the dense side, but with chips in every bite. He enjoyed a kid sized portion and had lots of leftovers for later. Everything was A-OK. Staff was friendly and attentive. Never had to ask for refills. Entry and parking is on BOTH sides of the eatery, with much more parking availability on the Oxnard Blvd. side. Thanks BG's for supporting our local youth!

Irritating waiting for a waitress to help me after I sat after at my table, idk what's the deal but they take so much time to help me. When you enter it saids take a seat, therefore it's hard for them to notice you. I go the gym down the street and after I'm down working out, I stop by. Definitely they need improvements. They food is good but the waitresses are just too ignorant sometimes. If you go basically you have to put them on check just like the owner would Do.

The turkey sandwich was very lackluster and dry. It was my first time there and i wasn't sure what to order. I got the soup/sandwich. Soup was chicken tortilla and it was good. Service was fast.

The food is always good here. The chilaquiles and eggs are the best! Definitely one of our favorite breakfast places! Sometimes the service is a little slow, though.

Yes... You want to eat here. Believe me. I am 1of 2 chief executive producers of "sweet pig production", you can follow us on Fb, and we came here for the first time on 3/29/15. I had the down towner flap jack with galzed apple and whip cream topping and a side of home made monster bisquit... Loved every single bite... Great price too

  • Mac N.

First time there. Great service! I was surprised it was a little busy for a Wednesday morning but it appeared that many of these customers were regulars. I had the corned beef hash with eggs and hash browns with a buttermilk biscuit. Hash came out amazing, hash browns were crispy without being burnt. The biscuit was soft and buttery! The side of butter was sweat but not overwhelming. Such a good deal for 9 bucks.. I've paid over 11 dollars at other restaurants and been much more disappointed. Can't wait to return and to try the country fried steak :)

Hands down the best breakfast place in downtown Oxnard. So glad a friend introduced me to this place. Their guacamole is the best I've ever had in my life. I've tried a good number of dishes and enjoyed them all immensely. I can't really remember anything that I disliked. Service was on point on all my visits even when it was busy.

  • Anabelen R.

Food is alright nothing more nothing less. Cinnamon roll is ok could be better but considering it was microwaved, it was better than expected. Now I know the main attraction of a restaurant is the food, I have found that often the most humble looking places (hole in the wall) deliver the best food. Not the case in this situation mediocre food mediocre place. The layout is not the most efficient they could fit more tables if it wasn't for the old uncomfortable booths they have, and the random refrigerator in the back. The fact that at the front entrance there is food and beverage prep is of bad taste. You see if they are not willing to invest money in better food, that they obviously don't spend on improvement of the facility... What does that say about the owners?

    (3)
  • Kristine D.

We've been here before and the food is normally pretty good! This time around we ordered the corned beef hash, hash browns well-done (we love our potatoes), and a cup of overripe fruit. Well, for you corned beef aficionados... it was canned. Enough said. Coffee was awesome, otherwise. We'll give them another chance because I believe in giving local business a chance. Update coming soon :)

  • Josh S.

Impressed! Home style feel, portions are more than adequate for a hearty breakfast. The omelette was decent but the Chilaquiles with the homemade refried beans, delicious with a nice spicy kick too! I added a side biscuit and gravy just to try. The gravy is peppery and better than average but the biscuit was fluffy big and top notch. This is a very busy big place but we were seated within 5 minutes on a Sunday morning. We maybe at times got a little forgotten about but if you're not on a time crunch with good company, who cares. Quick notes: Bottomless coffee for $1. Tax looked like it was included in the menu price o Overall: Big scores for keeping it simple and getting staple breakfast entrees right! We are happy to return.

This cafe is old American style. The staffs are very friendly and food was good. I ordered Swiss and Avocado Turkey Burger. I would like to try pancakes next time.

  • Joann A.

We've been here a few times for breakfast only. Unfortunately, we don't have plans on returning any time soon simply because it's not going to be our first choice "go to" restaurant. I suppose if you're into greasy home-style breakfast food, it does the trick. It's all pretty standard without anything in particular sticking out as "amazing". The prices are average and the service is fair. On our last visit however, there was a ridiculously long wait for our order to be taken and to get our food. This wasn't the case on our first visit, so I guess it's just a hit or miss.

This is our go to place for weekend breakfast. They have really good food, everything I've tried has been great! I've tried the chola quilmes, they are made with their award winning salsa. Huevos rancheros are really good! All their omelette a are really good and I love their refried beans!

Spent the night with two gorgeous women and thought how could life get any better? Well it did when I decided to start my morning off with a delicious country fried steak with eggs ben. I'm wired on coffee and ready for the world. Alex is usually my waitress and she pretty much rocks. #Mondays

I was very impressed with their food selection and service. Only complaint it was super hot but the owner said he was going to be fixing that. Prices were very reasonable and serving sizes were ample. I got the corned beef hash and it was a delicious will definitely go back and try their other items.

This restaurant has a great family atmosphere. There are regular customers in there frequently that are always friendly. The food is delicious, cooked to your specific request, and is served in a timely manner. I love this restaurant because it is tucked away in downtown Oxnard and is rarely overcrowded.

Best salad I ever had, their BG's house salad has got to be better than any restaurant in town. Yeah I'm pointing at you salad places. They were very nice when I went there. I would recommend it to anyone looking for homestyle cooking and their salad(my mouth is just watering thinking of it).

Parking : ok. Host : no where to be found Seating : horrible, table wasn't set when we wear seated, dirty. Service : CRAP. I timed ourself when we were first seated. Took 7 minutes for someone to notice we were here. No menus were set. 13 minutes later.. Got our food and drink order. The cups they brought out were dirty. The floor is gross! The food from the previous people are all over the floor. Staffs : saw someone scratch their head and continue rolling napkins for the utensils. Drinks : orange juice are poured infront of us. (Minute Maid) -- not fresh. Food : price is reasonable.. I guess that's the only good thing about them right? Cause their food was dry, flavorless.. We got French Toast.. And the Country Omlete. I added avacados.. For 2$ more? Really?! For not even a half of one? Living in oxnard?! SHAME IN YOU! NEVER AM I COMING BACK HERE. If I could.. I would have rated them with 0 stars!

We love BGs. Huge portions, American and Mexican breakfast options, friendly staff. You can find the spirit of Oxnard in this little down-to-earth, non pretentious, cozy breakfast stop. Last Sunday Cafe Amri had a 30-45 minute wait, so we opted for BGs, and we walked straight to a booth. Word.

  • Frank S.

I love BG's ,friendly /fast and always tasty ! They've got some of the best omellets and hasbrown around. The chorizo is excellent ,best in the county . the place is a bit run down but the best places too eat always seem to be those little hole in the wall joints. If you want a great breakfast ,where they cook the eggs perfectly and you can taste the artery clogging butter that they cook the eggs N hasbrowns in...... then like me, this is the place for you. Pancakes are pretty darn good too !

  • Richard B.

The food did not blow my mind or anything, but it was good. Has the diner kind of feel where it looks like the working class and ol timers can hang out. Interior could use a little bit of improvement.

My buddy and I are always looking for Sunday morning breakfast stops when we are on a motorcycle ride. We did a search on Yep a few weeks ago and found Bg's. We both had the Chile Verde Omelet and they were great. The service was excellent and the drink refills were right on time. So, Bg's is now on our list of Sunday morning favorite restaurants. We will be back!

I'm mad I haven't been coming here more often! Staff is absolutely amazing--friendly and efficient. They keep the cups filled and are always finding ways to make your experience there over the top. The food they prepare has actual depth of flavors outside what you encounter at most typical breakfast places. I appreciate that they take the time to consider that into their menus. The salsa is wonderful as well. I was first introduced to it at the Salsa Festival. Items I can recommend include: *oatmeal--hearty plate and the condiments that came with it made me giddy, hahah! Brown sugar, milk, and raisins! What's not to love about that? *and an array of omelets including a chile verde one. They have an option to customize your own and I always go with that... I enjoy having the liberty to choose the flavor combinations that suit my taste for that day. Mm, though they do have an extensive menu of fixed omelets to choose from. Will definitely be frequenting this place more in the future!

Came here with my family for breakfast on Sunday. The hostess said the wait was 15-20 minutes, but we ended up waiting for about 30 minutes because it was quite busy. Once we were seated and served, the service was quite good & the food was amazing! We ordered a chorizo scramble, veggie omelet, breakfast burrito, kid's breakfast & farmer's omelet. Everyone was more than happy with the food!! The pancakes & freshly baked biscuits were just about the best we've ever tried. Definitely recommend this place & will be back soon!

Good food And good prices ! Fast enough service but not the fastest when busy , they need more waitress or could have been that Ours was having breakfast . Had the bacon burrito but ate it the next day bc whatever my wife ordered we shared and was enoigh for us because it came with a biscuit which was huge and alot of gravy.

I've lived in Oxnard all my life but have never been to this place. Went for the first time last Saturday and the food was fabulous! Even my son the pickiest kid on earth liked it. I had the Chile Verde omelet that was out of this world! The place was super busy but we still got good service.

When you wake up in the morning in a city far away from home and the first thing your friend suggests when you ask him "What's for breakfast?" is an egg mcmuffin, all this Yelper can do is hope that someone else comes up with a better suggestion. Thankfully, my friend had friends who are from the area and we met up at this local joint. There are a number of eateries located in Downtown, Oxnard with "cafe" on their front doors, but BG's Cafe seems to be the local favorite. Upon entering BG's Cafe you are greeted with the old town feel of a traditional American cafe, and served with a full plate. This was a great choice for breakfast. I ordered the Corned Beef hash brown plate with country fried potatoes and scrabbled eggs with a side of wheat toast. There was a lot going on with my plate, but it all fulfilled my stomach. The country fried potatoes were not the type of country fried potatoes I am familiar with. They seemed to be fried and smashed rather than pieces of potatoes cut and fried. Corned beef was not too salty, which is a good thing for my palette. My friend ordered chorizo and eggs, although I don't know his opinion of it because he talked less and ate more. His friends ordered a stack of pancakes which looked tall and healthy, another ordered chicken steak with eggs, and another ordered a common plate of eggs and hashbrown. On this lovely morning a lesson was learned between two men who had thought they had requested their eggs to be cooked the same way. One guy ordered his eggs as "eggs over easy" and expected to be served "sunny side up." Another man ordered a "sunny side up" and received a "sunny side up" order of eggs in which the guy who ordered "eggs over easy" could only describe his eggs as "eggs over hard." Lesson learned: cafe and kitchen talk has its own vocabulary, so be sure to know it before you order it. By the way, this particular cafe has won numerous awards for its salsa (which is apparently by its prominent display of awards). These aware winning salsa include its green and red salsa and, dare I hope to try it one day, its fruit salsa. Delicious. I'm glad the locals took us here rather than McDonalds. I definitely loving it.

The food was decent nothing spectacular ordered pigs in a blanket with some oatmeal what I found to be funny is how low the tables are and how their bathroom feels like it was made for kindergarteners thank goodness I just went inthere to wash my hands the toilet looks like a potty training seat.. and to the dudes who like going to the bathroom to check your hair dont bother the mirror is so low you'll literally be looking at your junk after you wash your hands

After reading such good reviews I wanted to check out this place but unfortunately I didn't have as good of a dinning experience as others have. I tried going once but they are only open till 2pm which is so inconvenient. I went the next day with my family and neither one of us was impressed with the food. Their meals are so simple nothing special to them, they serve food I could be making at home for a better taste. The prices are not too high pretty reasonable but the food is not good. The service is good, they are very friendly. I would not go back, it was just not for me I guess.

Upon arrival, the restaurants decor leaves a lot to be desired. The decor is outdated and unappealing much like the food and service. Judging by the amount of people, it is definitely a local favorite, probably because the prices are fairly low and reasonable. If you're in a hurry, don't bother to sit down. The service was slow and the waitress was not attentive at all. Once we ordered we waited for what appeared to be hours for our food. It was consistent as there were others around us who were suffering the same fate. We finally received our food. One bite and we wished we hadn't. It was bland, tasteless, cold and a globby mess. I can't begin to describe the many issues we had with the food. Suffice to say, we left over half of our order on the plate, paid and walked out vowing never to return again.

Our favorite after-church breakfast spot. On our last visit, I went with the nopalitos omelette, which was chock-full of a tasty nopales/tomato/onion mixture. Our friendly server offered to add beans on the side as well, but I declined and just stuck with my giant omelette full of goodies and crispy, not-too-greasy hash browns on the side. (If my grandmother ever figures out the internet and comes across this, she will laugh herself silly at the thought of me eating nopalitos, considering the five-alarm tantrums I'd throw as a kid when faced with anything remotely cactus-y. It may have been because I watched a drunken relative fall rear-end first on top of one at a particularly lively birthday party, and also bore witness to the guy dropping trou to show us all the cactus stickers in his bum. Not especially convincing to an 8-year-old that such an obviously murderous plant could also be something suitably tasty for breakfast. But wow, do I digress. It was a freakin' good omelette, okay? Stop laughing, Nana.) My kids' standard order is toad-in-the-hole, which is a big piece of French toast with a hole cut in it and an egg cooked in the hole. I do this at home too, but it doesn't evoke the impressed squealing that BG's does. If it means my pickies will eat it, I'm totally okay with this. They're also won over every time by the coloring books that come to the table. You can only do so many IHOP word finds on a paper menu, I guess. Hot tea comes to the table in a cute teapot, and my poor husband had to listen to me chirp about the dang teapot all morning long. I'm sure it was scintillating conversation. (It was really cute, though! Bright yellow!) Luckily for him, the food is awesome and keeps me occupied enough to shut my yap for at least few minutes. No wonder he keeps suggesting we go back. Hmmm.

First time. Very old school dinner, been there 40 years, and could tell by clientele everybody knows everybody. Got Country Eggs Benedict, good but Holandese sauce was way too thick. Coffee refills where on time. Plenty of space to sit as well.

Wow! I had the chili verde omelette, apparently only available as a special on Sundays.. It was awesome! The pork was so tender, and the verde salsa was spiced just enough but not overwhelming... great food!

We were underwelmed by food until I saw a waitress stand a child on the countertop where the food comes out. Waitress was okay. Had to ask for more tea and she didn't understand how the restaurant week food was to be done. Yikes. Not impressed.

Wow. Hidden gem in downtown Oxnard. who knew ? This place has good portions. Tasty, non greasy, great for Sunday breakfast. I'll be back for sure. Had the Juevos Rancheros and can highly recommend them. Good staff, attentive, and got everything right. Was to full to have desert but those pies looked pretty good.

I was Melody's V friend who suggested a McMuffin for breakfast... I like McDonalds breakfast so sue me! I am also quite glad one of my local friends suggested we meet up here instead. The food was very delicious and despite a few mix ups, read Melody's review for more detail, I would definitely come back when I am in town. The chorizo was fresh and not too spicy. I kept hoping my friends would offer a piece of theirs since every dish looked damn good. Really wish I would've tried their "Award Winning" salsas... perhaps next time.

  • Tiffany G.

I wouldn't say that the food was spectacular, but it was very good. I came with a meetup group of 7 and they were kind enough to do separate checks for ALL of us. You couldn't ask for a kinder or more attentive staff. They were super on top of things and very accommodating. I got the french toast, nothing fancy, but it was good. My friends got omelets which looked like they were awesome, so I'd suggest those!!! :) I will defiantly bring the group back for brunch again.

B G's is an Oxnard institution. It's got a real "lived-in" look, just like I like in my diners. Downtown Oxnard is a cute area, with a great little town square, lots of meter-less parking, and new construction standing side by side with businesses that have been in Oxnard for decades. B G's is one of the latter. The food is good, solid diner food. They always serve breakfast. When I was there Monday, I ordered the chicken avocado Swiss melt on sourdough, which was fabulous. I asked for a side salad in order to avoid fries, but was immediately sorry I did, because the sweet potato fries are AWESOME. Our waitress was sweet and attentive, and the food was fast. My little sis ordered an omelet, and I promise you this: next time I go to Oxnard, I will have one of those omelets. It was great! p.s. I love all of the historical Oxnardalia on the walls. Aerial shots of Port Hueneme, Ventura, and Oxnard adorn the walls, along with vintage vegetable labels sporting Oxnard's name proudly with artwork of the surrounding farmlands.

BG's is a great local breakfast spot, much tastier than the over-hyped places that the foodie snobs like. It's down home eats with no pretentions. I give it 3.5 stars, but I'm not rounding up because the coffee isn't great and I love a place with good coffee, for me coffee can make or break a breakfast place. I always get basic sausage and eggs, with hash browns and toast, but it's always good. BG's is good on the budget too, they are always offering coupons in the local paper. Its our number one pick for local breakfast, and it's downtown, so I can walk around after breakfast, too.

Here at bg's again in oxnard. Staff very friendly, you can sit where you want, and is very clean for 40 years in business. I ordered coffee the creamer curdled in my coffee so I ordered a new cup. Staff who might be the owner manager sets down the glass with her finger in it. Can I say yuck. Ordered huevos rancheros salsa on the side over well eggs, got salsa n the rancheros n scrambled eggs. While I waited for it to be remade I watched my bf have breakfast by himself which he stopped to wait to have his now cold pancakes with me. Now I got the plate with an egg sitting on a soft corn torilla. What the hell..

Decided to try because of great reviews sorry to say the food was below average, over priced for a skimpy dish. My chorizo omelet was over the top salty and dry, I ordered another dish which made the already surly waitress more surly and she charged me for the original item I sent back which was $2 more than the replacement order. When I questioned the mistake on my bill she said, I know, I'm charging you for what you originally ordered". Sorry B.G.'s I definitely won't be back.

I was looking for a breakfast place that was not a chain and stumbled on this place. I had the steak and eggs and was quite surprised that I didn't get a piece of beef jerky. There was 4 of us and we all ordered different things. No one was disappointed and the portions are pretty good. Service was great.

I love their veggie omelet. Service was prompt and friendly. The coffee is delicious and the portions are enough to share. Great atmosphere!

This place was OK. Solid American diner food. Ordinary, but good for what it is. If you're considering going to Denny's you're better off driving a little further to this place.

I usually eat here 3 times a week. I enjoy the food, the friendly staff and I know many of the customers. Veronica is one of the owners and is usually around to assure good service. The menu was recently refreshed and the choices are tasty and flavorful. Their Mexican breakfasts and entrées are very good. Their homemade salsa is medium to mild but really good! I use it to spice up my meal, but really like it on cottage cheese. My only issue is that the kitchen can be slow, but other than that, a great place for breakfast or lunch. (Oh, you gotta try the sweet potato fries!)

Great breakfast, great service, could not ask for more from a mom and pop place. We need more of these places around here. I recommend the biscuits and gravey breakfast.

This is my favorite breakfast spot in Oxnard. I've been on many occasions and have ordered a variety of food and I have never been let down. I highly recommend this cafe. My favorite dish is the breakfast enchiladas.
