Waited 20 minutes to sit down, another 20 before someone finally took our order,, another 20 waiting for our food, and finally another 20 minutes waiting for the check to be closed out. My review would have been much better if the service and wait times hadn't gotten in the way. I talked to the manager and before I sat down the waitress magically appears and promptly took our order. Food finally got to our table and the hash browns were cold and the omelet (John Wayne) seemed flavorless, not to mention there was a random piece of tuna on my plate. My wife felt her omelet (nameless) was pretty flavorless as well and aside from the standard three times to see a waitress (order, food, check) we saw her once, the manager never came back to check on us either. I would seriously recommended Flappy Jacks (a few miles away) over this place as the services is exponentially better.

The wait for this place is way too long for the quality of food you get. Sorry, but it felt about on-par with Coco's or Denny's. We waited around 45 minutes for our table. Our service was average - the young lady who helped us was only minimally interested in our needs. My eggs benedict were average and my fruit was less than fresh. There are too many great breakfast options in Orange County to give this place a second shot.

It's very hard to manage to ruin something as delicious & yummy as an omelet right?? Well...here they did. Let me tell you, I was starving and looking so forward to a good breakfast. Ordered the "no name" after getting it I'll re-name it "dry & toppings just stuffed in the middle" I believe what they do is pre-make a bunch of egg circles and set aside, then when the orders come in they simply grab a pre-made egg and just stuff the toppings for what ever omelet the person orders in the middle. Now maybe if they also grabbed a handful of cheese at least that would've helped hold the omelet together..but they didn't even do that. I took my fork to the omelet to cut off a piece and all my ingredients fell out and the omelet was so rubbery that the piece I cut off just unfolded. GROSS!! Is it really that hard to combine all the ingredients in the egg? No..not if it's made to order versus pre-made. Now I understand why the ratings are so bad. Stay away from this location and only stick to the San Diego location my advice.

Christina had my bacon made exactly how I ordered it. Great service! Patio for my dog. Endless coffee. Wish it was a little less expensive otherwise perfect.

I tried the Broken Yolk because of the reviews. I tried the Ca Breakfast burrito. Wow ... best I've had in a long while. Even the coffee was good! They have more than adequate parking. Clean, stylish facility. Very friendly and attentive staff.

Great breakfast/ brunch spot! I live down the street so I decided to stop by today. There is also an ad floating around with a BOGO free deal for local residents! We ordered: * custom omelette with bacon, Swiss cheese, and cheddar jack cheese with a side of hash browns and sour dough toast * side of corned beef hash topped with avocado and hollandaise sauce (both avocado and hollandaise are additional charges) *frozen strawberry lemonade The food was cooked nicely and tasted very good! It took about 10-15 minutes to prepare, but that's the price you pay for when getting a freshly made meal! The waitstaff was very friendly and accommodated to all of my needs, despite a busy morning. Total of the meal costed $30.39, which is a little pricy, but well worth it! Will definitely be back again.

I find it highly amusing that people's expectations for this place are so out of proportion high! The prices are like any other breakfast place, literally no different. Service has always been good. Omelets are really really good. Their blueberry muffin choice is a yummy side. Their home fries are to die for. I also like the kitschy 60's interior. Solid breakfast choice!

Good solid breakfast place. My Chicken & Waffles were just okay, but my son's Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs were great; coupled with the biscuit, it would've been enough for two to share. I had a BOGO coupon that apparently shouldn't have been valid on weekends (a detail that didn't appear on the printout), but they honored it anyway. Service from Chandra was on point.

Years ago my friends took me to a little place in Pacific Beach called the Broken Yolk. Little did I realize that the one encounter would start a craving that would live for 7 years. Fast forward to now, and after telling the fiancé about the place and trying to find a time to head from LA to San Diego for breakfast, I was given a great surprise! Broken Yolk is now in Orange! Going in I had my doubts on if it would be as good. Quickly all doubts were gone. I fell in love with the place all over again with the John Wayne omelet while she enjoyed her Eggs Benedict. Of course that was after careful consideration of having The Iron Man but thoughts of fitting in my tuxedo next month prevailed. You can't go wrong here. The food is good, and the service is exceptional, especially for a breakfast place. (McKenna you are a star). Take my advice and head over to The Broken Yolk. And get the Iron Man, that way I can live vicariously through you.

Whenever I go out for breakfast, especially on a weekend, I am overcome with a palpable sense of dread. Eggs -over easy, bacon - well done and hashbrowns -crisp. That is my order. It seems simple enough. Inevitably, when I dine out, that is not what I receive. Too many horror stories to go into here- plus I like to accentuate the positive. I have passed the Broken Yolk many times and since I was feeling adventurous, decided to give it a shot. What? On a Sunday? Was I mad???? Well, my gamble paid off. Breakfast perfection! Even though it was busy, we were warmly greeted by a friendly staff and cooly greeted by cucumber water. Seated right away. I ordered coffee and the young man who took my coffee order came right back and apologetical alerted me to the fact that a fresh pot was brewing and it would be ready shortly. Good sign. Our server Kasey was friendly, knowledgeable and it was evident she loved her job and the food. We ordered and I gave my usual disclaimer, "I am letting you know, if the bacon is not well done, I am sending it back." She replied with a smile, "Of course. Why shouldn't you?" There was no need. Breakfast perfection. My companion ordered the Border Benedict, which he loved and raved about the quality of the fresh fruit. Even though it was busy, if we needed anything, any of the servers were happy to help I am looking forward to returning. Heck! Based on the dishes served to the other diners- I may even give them a shot for! lunch

Staff here is clueless and may be too quick to jump to racial conclusions. Came here with the Mrs (we're both Asians) on a Saturday morning and there was an Asian family sitting at a table a few feet from us. Our waiter, David, comes up to me and says "your table is ready" and gestures to the Asian family. I give him a look of confusion and he asks "oh you aren't with them?" Not quite sure how he got the impression I'm with them, especially since I am sitting at a completely different table, but pretty lousy start to the meal. Willing to let it slide and give him the benefit of a doubt - likely just an innocent mistake.

This place has cute decor, friendly staff, great service, and excellent food. I had the Wild West Burger and once I took that first bite, it didn't leave my hand! So good!!!! My fiancée had the eggs Benedict and said it was great. The prices are a little higher than the standard Denny's/IHOP, but you totally get what you pay for.

Do I have to tell my server that I am going to give him 20% tip before I can get good service? the disadvantage of being young, and hispanic. Don't judge a book by its cover. My experience here I've heard a lot of great things about this breakfast cafe, so i was excited to try this place out. The host was very nice and attentive. We didn't wait to long to get seated. Once we were seated, I noticed our server was busy helping other customers. She didn't greet us, no name or anything. Hey i understand she's busy, on the other hand my girlfriend wasn't too happy about that. I ordered the Country Fried Steak and Eggs, my girlfriend ordered the Chorizo Omelette. Both entrees with no modifications, so we couldn't of been complicated customers. We waited 40 minutes, my girlfriend asked our waitress Madison politely if the food was almost ready. She just asked because we had to be somewhere after breakfast. When the food was brought to the table, she did not ask if we needed anything, our entrees came with toast and a blueberry muffin. When we asked for our muffin and toast, it was all attitude from there. Not once did she come to our table to ask if we were ok. the expeditors and bus boys came to help us more then Madison did. My Country friend steak was burnt. The breading was separated from the steak because the steak was obviously over cooked. I couldn't even cut my steak with a knife. The Manager noticed i was having trouble with my steak, asked me if something was wrong, I showed the manager my steak, he kindly grabbed my plate to exchange it for another one. I was hungry, so i decided to eat off my girlfriends plate. I was using a spoon to eat the omelette because i left my fork on the plate that was taken back. the server stops by to look at our table and clearly see's me eating with a spoon, she decides attend another table :-/. I had to ask a busboy for another fork. My girlfriend had it with the service. I was still giving them the benefit of the doubt. The manager brings out my steak, and kindly asks us if we needed anything else. I was informed by girlfriend and the customers next to us that the server had rolled her eyes when the manager brought out our steaks. Did we do something wrong? At that point i had two bites and i was done. I asked for the check. Our bill came out to 30 dollars and i gave her a 7 dollar tip. I had to speak to the manager about this issue because i truly believe we did nothing wrong to deserve such horrible service. I go to the front to speak to the manager. I'm sure I was talking to someone in corporate or the owner, I tell him our experience. Madison decides to hang around the host stand while i was talking to him when she clearly had tables. I felt like he was kindly shutting us up by offering to pay for our bill, which i rejected. I wanted to pay for the bill and give Madison the 15%+ tip, so she doesn't assume we are that young hispanic couple who complains and expects free food and leaves a crappy tip. I hope she really learn from this experience. Thanks for reading :)

The breakfast is good, on Sundays expect to wait 20 minutes to be seated and 20-30 min to get your food, the coffee is terrible , tastes like a cheap coffee you buy at a donut store, the owners should spend more money to buy much better coffee that will add to the taste of the food.

Oh the hype. I listen; I came; I ate; I wrote a Yelp review. First of all, parking sucks, esp. on a Sunday morning. Good luck. Start your day out with that. Second, there's a wait, but then again, I expected that, esp. on a Sunday. Busy busy busy. Things I liked: 1) Friendly staff. All smiles 2) The manager dropped by, not once, but twice, asking how things are. That's very cool. 3) The busboys work fast. It generates fast seating for those waiting. I like that. 4) OMgods! They have mimosas! Mimosas for me and my friend! I gushed in excitement! The waitress giggled. As a gay man, brunch is NOT complete without a mimosa, or a bloody Mary, or a hibiscus (a mimosa with cranberry instead of orange juice). Things I didn't like: Sad to say, they're all food related. My order: chicken fried steak, eggs scrambled easy, crispy hash browns, biscuit with extra gravy on the side Time from order to table: ~20 mins 1) The steak was kinda hard to cut, even with a serrated knife. 2) The eggs were well-done, not soft/easy 3) The hash browns were crispy, but only to a point. My friend, who asked for crispy hash browns too, said hers were "not crispy" and "actually mushy." Just like a human body in winter. She touched it once. I used ketchup on mine so I won't mind so much. Why didn't we bother the manager? Well, the place was packed to the gills. Had we done that, we would have waited another 20 mins to get replacements. I didn't want to wait. I was hungry. My friend had to go do other things. Verdict: Good service, so-so food. The menu is intriguing, and had tempting items. I will come back. Hope things are better next time.

Having thought long and hard about this review, I think it is time to offer it. I have eaten breakfast at the Broken Yolk in Orange on a dozen occasions in the recent months. Usually I simply order oatmeal which is a sturdy breakfast and one can hardly go wrong with it. However, for the 8 or so times I have ordered this menu item, it has come out cold or lukewarm at best. I kept on trying to see if it might improve, but such was not the case. This past time, last week, I had the waitperson take the item back and have it nuked. She was most apologetic, but it was certainly not her fault. There is a problem in the kitchen. While being appreciative of the staff, the quality of the food overall is in question. This is offered to help you make up your own minds.

Food ok! But order came out wrong, waited forever for water... And refills. Price so so. NOT IMPRESS with this place that everyone waits to eat at.... They need help with training their service staff!

The service was excellent. My waitress was wonderful. Applewood bacon was to die for. In all honesty, that was the best bacon I have ever had. The buttermilk pancakes were so good. I am so tired of going to restaurant that have buttermilk pancakes and they have no flavor. You will not experience that here. My one complaint is that they don't give you anywhere near enough butter. The butter they do give you is colder than the ice in my water. And that always gets me mad because instead of the butter melting and you smoothing on, it make sure pancake cold. And another annoying thing was the fork times were bent.

Plastic wrap in my water! Fries sitting under the lamp for 20 min. Same fries dumped in oil for a couple of minutes to get nice and hot and hard! Got food without our toast. When done with breakfast manager brings the toast Really? When I told him to keep it he made a face and dismissed me. Bye the way, where was our server during this whole fiasco. Oh well, At least my egg dish was good.

My family and I wanted to go to a place where we could get either breakfast or lunch so we chose The Broken Yoke. We have eaten here before and have had just okay experiences. One thing that is very consistent is that the waiters seem to be so busy they rarely get to your table for refills and never really just check how you are doing through the meal. Unfortunately this past time we went will be our last. My food was luke warm which consisted of a short stack of pancakes and two cold over easy eggs and luke warm bacon. That meal is a pretty simple one and they couldn't get it right. My family members were also not happy with the flavors in their food at all. I would not recommend this place to anyone it's worth waiting at a different restaurant to be seated then get seated quickly and receive their very underwhelming food and bad service!

I always passed this place on the way to my friends house but had never been there. I was invited to breakfast so this was a great opportunity to check it out. I ordered a mushroom omelet and bacon and it was great. Thick, crunchy bacon that was cooked just right and not greasy at all. The omelet was large and fluffy. Will be back

What a wonderful Saturday morning to try something new...hmmm, how about the Broken Yolk. I took my mother here with my brother who had actually visited this location before. I am new to the Broken Yolk so for me I was ready for a fresh experience. First off they have a vast menu. Lots to choose from and I was very pleased to see a large selection of Mexican inspired breakfast dishes like chorizo, California avocado burrito, and many items with ground beef covered in salsa and sauce. Since this was new place to me I went with a classic, the "No Name" omelet which contained bacon, tomato, mushrooms, avocados, and oddly no cheese. The avocado's silky and robust flavor replaces the cheese and holds the ingredients together. From the first bite I noticed that even though in a hot omelet the bacon was still perfectly crispy while the other ingredients were tender and flavorful. I had no gripes about not having cheese in an omelet. All the individual ingredients stood out, plus the size was good and very filling. It came with home fries which to them is sliced potatoes. They were cooked well but not much for flavor. Little salt made them tasty though. Honestly though my favorite part of the whole breakfast was the bread portion of my meal. I opted out of toast for the blueberry muffin. The muffin was small and looked overcooked so I saved it for last. I cut it in half, buttered each side and went to town on it. Despite the exterior look the middle was soft and fluffy and the chunks, yes chunks, of blueberry were exploding with flavor. I wished it was a bit bigger or there were two, maybe three on my plate, but the one I had I enjoyed very much. The building almost looks out of place; everything else around it has that concrete color for the buildings and the black asphalt for the parking lot. Then out of nowhere is a wood paneled red roof tiled restaurant with the very unique Broken Yolk logo. The decor continues into the establishment where there are dark brown wood tables with lighter accented walls and fixtures. The whole thing feels like a designer created rustic diner. I enjoy those colors especially during the morning, nothing too extreme, more calming which is perfect. The only issue I had with the furniture was the tables. The four person table was almost too small with three people. With four there would have been room for only a plate each and maybe your drink, which speaking of the coffee cups were too small ass well but when I dipped below fifty percent full there was someone there ready to top me off. All around the decor was enjoyable and an inviting, cannot go wrong. Now I come to the last point in my reviews, service. As soon as we walked in we were welcomed with smiling faces and an eager to please attitude. Even though they seemed to have a full house we let them know that we had a party of three and immediately the receptionist countered with "inside or outside?" Since it was quite loud inside and a nice day outside we went for the patio. We were quickly seated and shortly after our waitress introduced herself. I always like to ask the server what is good there. I get to see if they are honest or their answer is robotic. Our waitress was very honest. She told us what was not the greatest and what they were good at. She pulled the empty chair out a little and put a knee up on it to give us her suggestions. I think most people do not like that and think of it as some sort of intrusion on their personal space. I however think it is a more personal touch, gives you a feeling that they want to be part of your dining experience and letting you know that they are genuine. I might be going overboard a little but never the less that positive feeling is there. Overall the Broken Yolk may be on the pricier side but it is the perfect alternative treat restaurant. You have your regular breakfast hangout that is cheap and they know who you are, this is the place when you want to spend a little more that weekend and try something that you know will be good. Love the decor and would not change a thing. Sitting there drinking your morning coffee may be the most enjoyable part of your week. Bring different people, try different things and just have a good time. That is what finding safe eateries like the Broken Yolk are all about.

Met friends here for brunch and even though the place was busy our waitress and the bus boys were very attentive. The restaurant itself was cute, reminded me of something you'd find in Palm Springs. I shared the borders Benedict and western Benedict, both were good but not jaw dropping, I wouldn't order it again but I'd def come back.

Ordered the Border Benedict...cuz I'm a suck for corn cakes. The carne asade is super tender. The poached egg cooked perfectly. Plus how can you not love a dish that looks like boobs. The only negative was the weak coffee. The fresh squeeze OJ is awesome.

A friend of mine worked at a business nearby and I've always wanted to try it. I love the decor. A lot of egg themed shapes and art work. Food: Not bad. My wife and I had omelets. Mine, southwest style. I disagree with some that say it's basically Denny's. If you've ever worked in a kitchen you can taste the difference between good quality vs. Average vs. Poor. Most of what we had was above average quality. The service is what set this place to a 4 star. Very attentive and just friendly. It was a great vibe. I like that in a restaurant that looks like it should have that vibe.

I tried this place when they first opened about two years ago, wasn't impressed and didn't bother to return... Till today. GLAD I DID! First off, let me say Robert is probably the best server I've had in a very long time. I hope management knows what a gem they have in him. It was around 11 on a Saturday morning when we arrived, were pleasantly greeted, and seated after a short wait. Coffee and water order was taken almost immediately, and I can not believe someone dissed the coffee in an earlier review. The coffee was hands down some of the best I've had in a restaurant, outside of French Press. I had the eggs benedict. The Canadian bacon wasn't salty, the poached egg perfect, and the hollandaise sauce was flavorful. The only complaint I have about my meal is the hash browns were undercooked despite my asking for them a little crispy, and they weren't hot. Actually... They were barely lukewarm. My friend had the club sandwich which has REAL oven roasted turkey, and she was quite happy with it. Her only complaint was her French fries were cold. Robert brought her a new order, but they were too salty. Third time was a charm as they were hot with no salt. MAYBE it's something about the potatoes? LOL Anyhow... Glad I decided to give them another chance. Will definitely be back!

I have lived here for 15 years and I'm now just discovering the broken yolk Café. The food here is great! My wife had the border Benedict, which is what they're famous for. Plenty of carne asada on top of two poached eggs that rest beautifully on sweet corn cake. The poblano sauce went extremely well with the corn cake. Three brand-new taste sensation for us that will keep us coming back! I had The 27 miles south omelette. Four eggs, chorizo, avocado topped with a yummy salsa... Amazing! The portions are big! Prices are great! Definitely coming back here again!

I love the Broken Yolk Café! My husband and I have added this place to our weekend breakfast rotation and it is a pretty dandy spot to get breakfast or lunch. It's never been too crowded that we have had to wait for a booth or table and service has always been solid. So far, everything I've tried has been pretty darn good, too. I love their French toast but not a big fan of the Border Benedict. If you come between 6:00-8:00 am, they have AWESOME breakfast specials for only $4.99! You can't beat that. Come eat here, you won't regret it.

My family and I did not have a good experience at this restaurant. We were seated quickly by a friendly hostess, but our waiter was slow to greet us and we didn't get any water or drinks until 20 minutes after he greeted us. When we ordered drinks and those came, we turned over the cups to discover that they were dirty. Not just dirty, but *dirty.* There was food stuck to the inside of the cups and one even had a wet used sugar pack stuck to the inside. It was pretty gross. The drinks finally came 20 minutes later, which was 40 minutes after we arrived there. I would understand if they were busy, but the place was mostly empty and we were the only 2 tables in the waiter's area. When my food came, I opened the omelette I ordered in front of the waitress who brought it as I was talking with her and she got just as grossed out as I was. I reached down and pulled a long black hair out of my food that was baked into it. Ugh. :P The toast I received was only cooked on half of it--only on one side. Needless to say I was not happy with our experience and asked to speak with a manager. She apologized, grossed out herself and had my food remade. She fully comped the price of my meal and then discounted the rest of my party's meals as well. I'm grateful for that, but the dirty dishes + food in my hair + slow service = I still won't be returning. I expect a level of cleanliness and that's a non-negotiable for me. I live out of state, so I won't be returning there, but even if I were in California, I wouldn't return because of those reasons I mentioned. :P

Service is extremely slow every time I have gone. It's a diner type atmosphere but takes a minimum of 90 minutes to get through a service. Not great if you're eating with kids. The food is good but a bit over priced for breakfast.

To Came for a breakfast date with my mom. I ordered the breakfast burrito, does NOT disappoint. My mom ordered the breakfast quesadilla and instead of having the eggs on the side, she had them put INTO the quesadilla... most amazing thing I've had in a long time while eating out. Very pleased. Have I mentioned how much I freaking love this place? Wish they would bring one close to me here in Cypress/Los Al area.

The best part of The Broken Yolk, I think, is the friendliness of the wait-staff. This morning I had their "Western Benedict" and it was just wonderful, but the waitress was so nice in consistently checking on my coffee cup. As I shared my dish with a friend, she brought the extra plate (without being asked) and even did the cutting and transfer for me. I really appreciate that kind of care and attention. This place is popular so you have to get their early. I had a short wait, but nothing to complain about. Nonetheless, the place is GOOD!

Just went here for breakfast after church with my family. The food was fabulous and the service was exemplary. We were treated like family the minute we walked in. I will be coming back here often for breakfast and lunch. I recommended the western eggs benedict and the blueberry muffins!

The food is hearty, classic fare and really hits the spot. With that said, you will be doing A LOT of waiting. We arrived at 11:30 on a Sunday with a party of 3. We were seated at noon and food didn't arrive until 12:40. That's definitely a negative in my book. Eggs really shouldn't take so long to cook. Service is friendly, which is nice. Prices are so-so. I think the beverages are way too expensive. The small glass of orange juice is probably 6 oz (around $3.50), so we ordered the half carafe (around $6.50) which gets you 3 small cups. We ended up having to order a second half carafe of orange juice. $13 on beverages for two people is kind of insane. It was decent orange juice, but it wasn't mind blowing. The kids menu is also on the insane side. Everything is $6.50 and is a small entree with a drink. We generally just add a pancake to one of our meals since our child is 2. It makes no sense to order her an entree that could probably feed a 10-12 year old. I wish they had mini kids meals. With that said, I feel that the pricing on the adult entrees is perfect (around $8-$12) and the portions are decently sized. I had the eggs benedict which was spot on. The hubby had the mile high omelette. He was a fan of it, I wasn't. The veggie filling is on the rawer side. I usually prefer it more cooked when in an omelette. One thing they do really well is taking care of kids. They give you a table liner which is super useful for 1-2 year olds. The kids also get a pack of crayons and a coloring sheet. I'm a big fan of that. I also feel like this restaurant is cleaner and less sticky than most breakfast places. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could, but since I have to pick. I'll give it 4 stars.

Tried this place out for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised! The inside is very modern and cute... service was top notch... and we left feeling happy and satisfied. GREAT SERVICE! I got the healthy breakfast wrap and it was pretty good! I subbed the feta for cheddar. Warning the kids meals are huge and 1 could be split between 2 kids lol (lumberjack portion). The French Toast my hubby had looked amazing. I tried a bite of my son's pancakes and they were so buttery, FLUFFY and delish they might not need syrup lol. I really loved this spot I hope this review doesn't make the wait any longer haha. Wait was only 5 min on a Sat. And to whoever said this place is like Dennys (rolls eyes) that is a lie! No way... not my experience at all! :-)

saw this place on the "new places" list a while back and thought- I want to go there!!! Well today I strolled in solo and sat at the counter- tons of service, because its in the service window area and thus there are a ton of people walking by. Ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs over easy with home fries- delicious, delicious and delicious. the biscuit was huge- a meal on its own, but get the butter in there as soon as you get it, because the biscuits hot and the butter is cold.... I will definitely be back here, but when, I do not know, because it is off my beaten path.

Went to The Broken Yolk for the first time Saturday morning with my husband. We had tried to go there once before but the place was packed and we didn't want to wait that day. This time we got there just before 7am and were promptly greeted by the manager with a smile and she sat us immediately and brought us coffee. Good start and good coffee. Our waitress came by quickly and we told her this was our first time there and she made some suggestions. We were at a table in the back close to the patio area and kept noticing some sort of flash. After a couple of minutes we figured out that the recessed light above our table was flickering. When our waitress came back we pointed this out to her and she moved us to another table. The funny thing was, based on her comment, it seemed that it had been that way for awhile. OK, stuff breaks. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful and didn't seem to mind coming back a couple of times before we made a decision on what to try. The menu is ample but not too big with a good variety. I finally decided to try one of the $6.99 specials, a biscuit with gravy, 2 eggs (over medium) and crispy hash browns. Husband tried the 4 egg omelette with ham, green peppers, onions and American cheese with home fries and sourdough toast. We received our food promptly but my hash browns were not crispy and I caught a whiff of something odd from them. I tasted them and they were undercooked. Husband smelled my plate and he could pick up the smell as well. He thought it smelled of sour potatoes. We flagged down our waitress who could not smell anything but offered to get me something else. I decided that maybe it was just me but the manager came over and also offered to replace the plate or at least the hashbrowns. I agreed to take a side of fruit to replace the hashbrowns. Needless to say, this sort of ruined my breakfast and part of it was my fault for not letting them get me something different. The biscuit was light and fluffy but the sausage gravy was rather tasteless. Eggs were cooked as ordered and tasted fine. I had also ordered a side of crisp bacon which was done perfectly. Husband's omelette was satisfactory but great. He was expecting chunks of ham and more flavor. Instead he got thin sliced pieces of ham and little flavor. After adding salt, pepper and Cholula he was happier. His home fries were crisp but didn't seem to have any onions or anything else in them. Maybe that's just how they prepare them so that's on him. The manager did comp us for my special. I told her I was not looking to have my meal comp'd but thanked her. Overall, we had good service but the food left us underwhelmed. Maybe we just ordered the wrong thing but we felt let down after leaving. Good staff, good coffee but overpriced food.

Running errands yesterday, I happened to drive home on Chapman and I saw the "We're Open" sign in front of the Broken Yolk Cafe. I know the place to be a San Diego staple, so I was psyched to see one open up in Orange. Breakfast in 30 minutes? At the Broken Yolk Cafe, it's true. I ordered the two eggs-any style & ham plate with home fries, sourdough toast and regular coffee to wash it all down. My son had the Monte Cristo and a large orange juice. I liked what I ordered. The eggs were super fresh, the ham was substantial and not overly salty, and the potatoes were what I expected them to be. The coffee was OK enough for me to drink it with just one sugar packet. On the other hand, I could see the disappointment on my son's face regarding the Monte Cristo that he ordered because it was more of a 'light menu version' with the bread prepared like french toast instead of the entire thing being soaked in egg wash and then cooked up in the deep fryer. Anyway, their speed of service is fantastic with no wait to be seated at 8:30AM, the place was super clean and everyone was pretty happy and social for an early Sunday morning. It's a little pricey at over $10 a plate, but I'd eat here again due to their large and varied breakfast menu and excellent speed of service.

Haven't tried the food yet. Just here at the 35 min noticing tables that haven't received their food for 30min. One table we were waiting on was simply waiting for their bill for 10min. Really slow service. Either they are under staffed or disorganized. Going on 40 minutes of waiting. Tables aren't being bussed. Really bad!! This will be our last visit. Breakfast is now lunch.

I've been to this place now three times... I went there today. I ordered the rancher which was really good.. The food is always delicious when you come here... It gets packed for breakfast though... My friends father ordered the buscuits and gravy and his biscuit was really floury and crumbly... Like as if they hadn't been baked all the way through... Overall I'd say a successful visit

Dropped in on New Years day. It was ultra busy as expected. We ordered Chicken & Waffles and the Golden State Benedict. The breading on the chicken had good flavor and the chicken was juicy. The pecan drizzle was excellent. The combination of flavors in the Benedict was very tasty. (You can look up the ingredients on the menu) With it being so busy the service was top notch. We decided to sit at the counter vice waiting for a table which was fun because we got to watch the Rose Bowl Parade on their two TV's. Coffee was refilled regularly and we ended up with a few Bloody Mary's which were on special for $4. The mix is good and the vodka may not be Gray Goose or Kettle One but the well vodka did not take away from the good taste of the drink. Christina was a fantastic waitress and was very nice considering the work load she was juggling.

I gave a 3 stars to this place becauae the food was decent. I gad the Mom's omelet and home fries (slices) and my boyfriend had the feench toast. The omelet was very bland and the homefries were extremely greasy and soggy. The frwnch toast was very soggy as well. The service was great. Refill my coffee all the time and brought our food in a very timely fashion.

I honestly don't even want to give this place even one star. I am new to the area and I was walking my baby in her stroller early in the morning. I found myself hungry and coming up to the broken yolk. All I ordered was eggs and bacon with orange juice. They asked if my baby would like anything (she's 8 months old) and I said yes, maybe a cup of fruit. My bill was over $17! Just a meal for myself! I seriously could have gone across the street to Hercules and spent half that for better food! Seriously. I had no idea but I do now! Never again will I go there.

Walked right in with no wait at 10:00 on a Saturday morning. The place was quite packed though. Expect lots of egg references, yellow egg yolk chandeliers, egg type of wall art, etc. This being a new restaurant, it has the appearance of being shiny, and new, but upon closer observation, they could use a little help in the cleaning department, as the dust was quite thick on the baseboards, and windowsills, and the windows were pathetically smeared and dirty. Service was really very good, and it would appear that they are very well trained as I noticed each and everyone being greeted, and when leaving being thanked for coming in. We have started using the stopwatch feature on our iPhone when ordering and the ticket time from ordering to being served was about 14 minutes. I ordered the red chilaquiles with eggs, and my husband got the huevos rancheros. Both were served with refried beans and tortillas. The chilaquiles were very good, and at some point while eating, I looked up and noticed that both my husband and myself were sporting a fine sheen of sweat on our brows, and my nose was dripping. I'm trying to figure out WTH? My husband figured it out, NUCLEAR beans. We stuck with soft drinks on this visit, but there were plenty of mimosas flying around. I was surprised to see that their champagne was only $12.00 per bottle. Much less expensive then the $20.00 that Schooner or Laters in LB charges for the same thing.

I like this restaurant very much. Unfortunately, I'm on my 2015 diet so I didn't splurge on the eggs, bacon, potatoes, or pancakes. I had the fruit parfait and it was delicious. The service here is about average and the dining area and restroom was clean.

I love coming to the broken yolk for a great weekend breakfast! All of the staff is very friendly and the manager elly is also very welcoming & friendly. I usually get the waffles and they are very delicious. I have also stolen a few bite from my friends and family members plates and everything I have tried is very tasty. They definitely deserve 5 stars!

This place is bomb! The only breakfast spot that can fill me up in one meal after that Physique Competition. By meal I'm referring to the Broken Yolk Ironman Challenge. That 6lb omelet featured on Man Vs Food that many have tried but few have conquered. Back in December as I was on a hardcore competition cutting cycle eating nothing but chicken, broccoli and egg whites in preparation for my show I began creating a Food Challenge journal inputing all the amazing food challenges I would indulge in after my Physique Competition. On the top of my list was the Broken Yolk Ironman Challenge that I would attempt after my show. As I gathered my friends and we headed over to Broken Yolk Cafe in Orange, myself and 2 other friends put in 3 orders of the Ironman Challenge. As I was waiting for my 6lb omelet, I couldn't help but notice an amazing breakfast Nutella banana crepes to my left and a giant plate of juevos racheros to my right which almost caused me to forfeit the challenge because those dishes looked so amazing! Minutes later 3 Ironman Challenges arrived at our table and everyone in the restaurant was wondering what the heck was going on. After quickly discussing our strategy for attacking this challenge, I took the first bite of that warm omelet and began my journey. 30 minutes went by and I had finished the omelet and was still going strong on the potatoes as my friends started slowing down. 50 minutes went by and I started slowing down as my friends threw in the towel. With minutes left, I attacked the remaining potatoes and biscuits and finished the challenge seconds before the 1 hour mark. I left the restaurant with a free meal, free shirt, plaque on the wall, and a full stomach! It was a good day! Can't wait to go back for the Nutella banana crepes and juevos rancheros!

The service is going down hill. Missing sides with my food. Offers not clear. Sat 5 people on a 4-person booth, completely uncomfortable. Pancake has a burnt flavor. The place seem empty, but there is a long wait. They are having a problem running a Sunday breakfast place.

I am giving this restaurant 2 stars and both stars belong to Amanda. There's a lot of hype about this restaurant since its recent opening in OC. Arriving at around 10-ish on Labor Day, I saw a huge crowd waiting outside the restaurant. This was the perfect holiday late breakfast/brunch time and I saw that a lot of people are eager to check out this restaurant, which is bringing its well-known fame from San Diego to Orange County. This further piqued my curiosity to check out this restaurant. Today. Regardless of the wait. Regardless of the prices on the menu. Mistake. Stupidity. Note to self: Rob, please don't do this again. The wait was ok. It was only about 30 - 40 minutes and the staff was doing a great job clearing tables and seating customers. The staff working at the reception area was efficient. SERVICE: It was the wait after we were seated that was not acceptable. For about 15 minutes we were not greeted, acknowledged or communicated to in any way by our server. She had actually walked right by us several times, but at that time we did not know she was our server. Not a "hello!" Not a "be right with you." Fortunately, there was Amanda (from her nametag), who was NOT our server, and who probably felt sorry for us that we were ignored. She asked us whether we had met our server yet and I said no. She offered to take our beverage order and we asked for 2 coffees. A few minutes later she came back with our coffees. Knowing that we still had not seen our server, she offered to take our orders. She must be feeling really sorry for us or maybe she can see my empty stomach through my hungry eyes. I was at first hesitant to give her the extra work that she was not going to get paid for. But she asked with such enthusiasm that I knew she really didn't mind doing it. So I placed our orders. It was Amanda who brought us our food and we were very appreciative of her efforts. I was not going to bother her for more coffee, cream and sugar, but my craving for more caffeine betrayed me. So I asked, and she so pleasantly brought us more coffee and gladly refilled our cream and sugar. Note to management: This is the definition of going above and beyond. Kudos to Amanda. Halfway through our meal our server eventually showed up and asked us how's everything, but left in such a hurry that I didn't even had the time to ask for more coffee. And of course, she didn't ask if we wanted more coffee. FOOD: Food was average. Honestly, it was not bad at all, but definitely not what it's all hyped up about. I ordered my eggs over medium and they came over easy -- there were still liquid egg whites. The corned beef hash was good, not spectacular. The home fries were really just ok -- need to spice it up a bit. The sweet potato pancakes were ok. They tasted good but was a bit chewy and lacked the softness and fluffiness of a pancake. PRICES/VALUE: Prices are expensive compared to similar diners/ family restaurants. The bill for an order of sweet potato pancakes and 2 eggs with corned beef hash and 2 coffees was $25 before tips. I can get better food, better breakfast potatoes and much better service at Mimi's Café at about 20% less than what we paid today. While the portions were large, the value was still not there. NOISE LEVEL: I am Chinese and I frequent Chinese restaurants. This place is nosier than the nosiest Chinese restaurant that I've ever been to. Need I say more? CONCLUSION: Will not return and do not recommend.

A new favorite place for breakfast/ brunch. Stopped by today to get a quick breakfast with my friend and was not disappointed. The service was excellent. Christina was on top of it and super friendly. She recommended the Golden State Egg Benedict, which was really good. She really made me feel at home and was always come by to check on us, ready to top off my coffee. I will definitely be coming again!

I had the eggs Benedict. I was hoping for a different, made from scratch, hollandaise, but ended up with the same old Knorr powdered mix. My eggs were perfectly poached and my hash browns were delightfully crispy and seasoned well. Attention yelpers, ISO made from scratch Hollandaise sauce, creamy, lemony and delicious!

Food was amazing and the service was even better. I ordered the Nutella and banana crepes, which were phenomenal, and I casually said these would be really good with peanut butter and the waitress went all over the restaurant to find me some. That's what I call going above and beyond for your customers! Definitely going back as often as possible!

The Broken Yolk Cafe helped host a holiday party for the company I work for, SureFire CPR. They were awesome! They really took care of all 40+ of us at the restaurant and were all very nice and accommodating. I will definitely be back for their regular business hours to try their breakfasts!

Chili on the omelet! Done deal. Their omelets come with 4 eggs and whichever ingredients you get, I suggest adding chili on top. It also comes with hash browns and a freshly baked muffin. The muffin was still warm when I got it, probably just out of the oven but man was it good. Soft, moist, and the blueberries were half melted so it was like having little pockets of blueberry jam in every bite. The portions are also really big! I was only able to finish half and my roommate was he same so it's basically like 2 meals in one! They also have a great mimosa deal. They give you the bottle of champagne so you can mix them yourselves and you know they aren't diluted. We ordered the pomegranate juice and cranberry juice. Cranberry was nasty, pomegranate was yummy. Service was a tad slow and sometimes the wait can be a bit long but the food is definitely worth it.

A decent place to grab a huge breakfast. Food was good, I had the John Wayne omelet, Man had the country benedict. Portions are massive and it is standard fare for a diner. Not the best hash browns - crispy on the outside but soggy inside. Man was happy with the gravy for his biscuits, he's a bit of a gravy snob. Atmosphere was okay, nothing special, upbeat music. Service was only okay, too. I actually only ever saw one server and one woman who looked to be a manager/supervisor. Check came after 5 minutes with our food... A bit fast if you ask me. It's very local for us, and I'm sure we'll be back at some point.

I ordered a California breakfast burrito and it was horrible! Took forever to get it and it was pretty much a potato burrito and the potatoes were cold. The service was not the greatest also. She was slow and had to ask for things twice and still at that point we asked someone else. Overall not impressed and sloppy

Went there on a PACKED Sunday morning, but nobody was sitting at the counter... voila! ! No wait. Annnnd, we got to watch all the action back there. I got this thing called Border Benedict. ..... $@&! .... .... ··°··ZOINKS··°·· ...... I am now a LIFER!!! L I F E R My tongue jumped so many somersaults that it got tied in a knot.. I dont know what that was about. All I remember was that scene on Ratatoulli when the rat tried the different cheeses with grapes and all the fireworks went off. ..and he just closed his eyes and goes... 'mmmmmm' idk .... (too much?).. It was carne asada, poached eggy wagies, dressed over some kind of sweet corn bread.. all smothered in a green sauce of luuuv. Gf's hashbrowns were undercooked, but they had no problem exchanging them up for a nice golden brown/crispy order. She just got hb's 'n eggs. ?? Which was a crime btw. .. like going to an Audi dealer and comin home with a Geo. ..ya, I had to heckle her on that one. But it was still ALOT of food. Menu is extensive. Lots of different creatful options. Food is plentiful. Bring your appetite.

This place is super bland I hate to admit. Everything started off well by being seated quickly but then the service just plunged. The waitress we had took FOREVER to take our order. It was a bit annoying considering it really wasn't that busy. I went for the egg benedict and let's just say i'm glad it wasn't the first egg benedit I tried. The ham slices were way too thick. My friend ordered the chicken and waffle and even he didn't seem to pleased. The mimosa deal on the other hand won me over.

We usually have brunch here once or twice a month. My brother usually picks it because it has both breakfast items and lunch items, something that some of our other brunch spots don't have. Sometimes there's a wait, but no longer than 15 minutes. I appreciate the fact that they have fresh juices and lattes, and my boyfriend and brother like their smoothies. The food is always good and comes out quickly, but we've had a couple waitresses that seemed rushed or somewhat uninterested in being there. We've ordered a good portion of their menu, but some of the highlights have been the chilaquiles (with green or red sauce, plus eggs and chicken if you want), huevos rancheros, eggs with chopped ham and sweet potatoes pancakes.

Good food, friendly service and expansive menu. Parking can be a little tricky, with only 2 handicap spots. The bar is great if you're alone, but there are plenty of tables and booths inside, and even an outside patio. There were a couple of flies buzzing around though, which is a total turnoff. $1 coffee Wednesdays made up for it though.

I love this place. It's my favorite breakfast spot in orange. Christina, my favorite waitress is amazing! We never saw the bottom of our coffee cups, or water glasses. The rest of the staff is also wonderful. Really peppy, and nice. Even if they were intentionally mean I would still come here because the food is so good. I have not tasted anything here that was not fresh and delicious. On weekend mornings there is a bit of a line, but the longest I have ever had to wait was twenty mins and that was at noon on a Sunday. They are great at getting you in out and fed without feeling rushed. I also love the décor. Great place, great food, great service. I highly suggest the eggs benedict.

Oh man..How to start off their review. After driving by it so many times, I decided to go with my girlfriend who is a huge breakfast fan. When we first walked in, it definitely fit the whole "egg" look from their wall decor to their menus. So starting off super excited since my girlfriend loves breakfast, we were really anxious to see what they had on their menu. After going over the menu, it felt more like a diner with a few breakfast items (typical eggs and bacon, pancake, hashbrowns), but more sandwiches and soups like you would see at Denny's. Once we were seated, our waitress came around in about 15 minutes in where we rushed to put our order just in case we didn't see her anymore. I ordered the border benedict and she ordered the country fried steak. It all went downhill from there in our observations of just what was going on in the establishment. There was a table next to us who said the coffee was cold and the waitress responded with; "Oh it must be because I poured it into a cold cup." What the hell.. If the room temperature cups make the coffee cold, the coffee wasn't really hot to begin with.. (but I didn't let that bother me or effect my opinion since it wasn't me) As we continued waiting for our food, I watched the waitresses as well as managers (or staff in button-up long sleeve) walk around clean tables, take checks, ring people out, handle money, and other responsibilities. BUT THEY WOULD GO STRAIGHT FROM THOSE TASKS TO HANDLING FOOD!!!!! I watched them take sourdough bread straight from their bags with the hands that were just handling money, dirty dishes and etc to touching food to put in the toaster. I didn't eat any of the toast once I saw that.. They have poor work habits that seem to go up to their management as well.. Once the food came out, I immediately pushed the toast to the side and left it. As far as my border benedict, it was very dry all around. I couldn't figure out if they were going for half ground meat and calling it carne asada or whatever else was their goal.. Their "corn cake" was just dried corn bread and the egg was over cooked. The country fried steak on the other hand was actually good. It was crispy, seasoned and just a tad oily, but didn't scare me off. I also liked their gravy as well with it being chunky and having some consistency. I would not come back here due to dirty habits that I've seen happen too many times at my only time there. As far as the dishes go, one was a hit and the other was a miss. I do understand that gloves aren't required anymore, but that should only make you be more clean with your habits and practices.

Gave this place 1 star prreviously then removed my post. Thought I'd give them the bennefit of a doubt and try it again. They seem to struggle durring busy times. I don't like my breakfast brought to the table followed up with my toast 5 min. later. My sister split an omlett with her husband and all the avocado was in his half. Four dollars and thirtyfive cents fo a f@#%&!ng pancake? Two dollars and fifty cents for coffee ? Never again !

I ate at this place about a year ago and it was very good. The friendly service and great food was awesome. This was a Saturday and they were new so I know they were putting their best forward. Unfortunately, I went there yesterday morning and it had changed. I ordered the cottage potatoes and they were burnt, hard, and uneatable. When I brought this to my server's attention, it was not big deal to her. Finally she offered a replacement with hash browns that were ok but not great. . Interesting that she did not offer fresh cottage potatoes. I know that a restaurant is only as good as their cooks and servers. I finally had to tell the manager on duty as i did not want other people have to endure the same as I did. She offered to discount our bill. It is too bad that these cottage potatoes were awful, I love the way they prepare them in the past, no onions and bell peppers like other place do.

I'm so sad to give this place only two stars. We used to go to the original BY in Pacific Beach years ago and it was great. Since they've become a chain the quality has gone down significantly. The food was just OK - nothing special. My husbands rancher omelet was too salty and I could have made the breakfast sandwich better at home. We added a bowl of fruit and the quality control person must have been off today because there were a few bad pieces in the bowl. Total for two entrees, coffee and one cafe drink was $38. Way too much for a lackluster breakfast.

I came to The Broken Yolk for a holiday party after hours for the company I work for, SureFire CPR. The entire staff was completely attentive, and they took absolute care of all 40+ of us! Everything was all around lovely, from the food, to the service, and setup--we couldn't have asked for a nicer holiday party. Also, can I say how amazing those banana chocolate chip muffins were? I still dream of those. Can't wait to go back!

Amazingly great service. Food is very fresh and the restaurant is packed with a 25 minute wait time but worth the wait. My first time here and I will be back.

Second time here and not disappointed again!! Shared the Tiki toast and the Rancher omlette sub egg whites. Lots of food and SO GOOD! Only comment I could make would be more syrup/sauce on the french toast. I was a little surprised because I expected it to be a bit sweeter. The omlette was DELICIOUS though and perfect for sharing. The home fries are GREAT! Certainy will be back again!!

The food is great and the service is awesome. This is my new favorite breakfast spot. I love the chicken & waffle with the house pecan syrup!

Good price for the amount and quality of food. The portion size are big. We ordered the chicken & waffles and the country fried steak. This food taster better than IHOP and for a cheaper price. Clean, modern ambiance. I will be back.

Great food and atmosphere. We have been to the Broken Yolk on a regular basis and we love it. The chicken and waffles are killer and the huevos rancheros are the best around. The staff was really responsive and the food was quick! We'll be back in the near future for sure.

Poor Service!! The staff chit chat amongst each other too much when they're by the cooks & some yell at the cooks for orders, which makes sense why orders come out screwed up. We ordered Biscuits & Gravy w/sausage & home fries. Why did the plate come out WITHOUT the main course of biscuits & gravy. Our waitress said it'll be a moment. Why not wait and bring it out all at once?! I ordered Chicken sandwich w/french fries. Waitress brought out sweet potato fries instead, so I had to wait to get my order of french fries. Sandwich was good but fries tasted like it was from a microwave.

The broken yolk ironman challenge is a decent amount of food! Overall the food tasted great but the biscuit was semi dry. Huge though! Christin was legit. She even knew the batman quote so crazy! Will come back when I'm ready to rise

I LOVE BREAKFAST! Especially eggs so when I saw a restaurant called Broken Yolk I just had to check it out. :) The food here is pretty darn tasty. The eggs benedict was awesome. The eggs were poached perfectly and a good piece of ham served with hash browns. I was a happy camper. The Monte Cistro was great too, a big portion. However, with all that said the service here sucks! The wait stuff is young and inexperienced. Our server was forgetful and it took about 45 minutes to chase her down to get our check. It wasn't busy either we went on Tuesday at 2:00pm so there wasn't a breakfast rush. I love the food here just can't stand the service.

Great outdoor seating. Excellent brunch place with so many omelets to choose from. We had the border check omelet. YUM!

This place is fantastic. Came in on a busy Sunday was seated promptly (to my surprise) and the food/service was excellent. I highly recommend the Nutella crepes.

Our second visit to Broken Yolk in Orange and the food was just as delicious as the first time. Particularly recommend the club sandwich, the French toast, and any omelet on their menu. Service with a smile and a comfortable atmosphere really add to the overall desirability of the restaurant. My only negative would be that on both visits we were told items on the menu were no longer available or that their menu was in the process of changing. Seems like something they need to sort out so the poor servers aren't having to constantly tell customers they can't order the items they're craving.

I wish I had something better to say about Broken Yolk other than it was mediocre. This breakfast joint is so close to my home and I would love a convenient "go to" spot for breakfast. Unfortunately, it did nothing for me. Sharing is caring so I split the Monte Cristo sandwich and a fruit and yogurt parfait with the BF. We are on a mission to find the best Monte Cristo in town BTW. Now that Jerry's Deli is no longer around with their awesome Monte Cristo, we are trying other sandwiches in the OC. This one fell way short with its dry sugar powdered French toast and standard thin slices of domestic lunch meat ham. I expect a huge serving of meat and egg battered French toast, dripping with melted cheese and deep fried to make me feel super guilty for even considering I'd eat it. Oh, yeah...and a side of jelly. I got none of that at the Broken Yolk. The fruit and yogurt was ok. It was mixed berries and granola topping vanilla yogurt. I could have made it at home though. I was a bit disappointed with the food because: A. I could have gotten the same quality of food at Denny's. B. The food is way cheaper at Denny's. I will say that the service was so-so. They were friendly but never really came back to refill out drinks. My other qualm I had are the buckets used to bus tables were stored behind my booth and smelled of high hell when the air would circulate my way. Pretty gross. I obviously won't be back. I'm sure I have a Denny's to lean on for an awesomely cheap breakfast nearby.

I liked the design of the restaurant. the service was lacking which from reading previous reviews seems to be a recurring problem. Waitress was busy and kept forgetting to bring us what we asked for. Glasses are super small so you have to keep asking for refills which is a pain in the ass when they're understaffed. Food was good but not for the price that's why I'm giving 3 out of 5 for my review. Will most likely b back because my boyfriend loves their pulpy orange juice.. Yay -_-

  • Paul H.

It was my first time here & it will not be my last. The food was amazing with a wide variety to choose from and the quantities are perfect for a hungry person. Big plus was the oversize glasses so I'm not constantly waiting for a refill. I strongly recommend this place if a friend and you or the whole family want to go have a delicious meal with excellent service.

I am updating my review: this place has gone down! Today it was 40 degrees out, and the heater was broken. The heater broken is totally not their fault, however why would they leave the AC on. It's 40 degrees (in Orange County where we aren't use to that type of weather), and they have the AC on? What's going on! Anyways it seems as though they are short staffed because our waitress came around at most 3 times once to take our order, once to fill up on coffee, and we had to chase her down the third time for our check. When we got our food, it was cold. It was like it was sitting there for a good 10 minutes at the counter. We were freezing and we were hoping for hot warm food to warm us up from the AC, nope. My boyfriend had beans with his breakfast, and his beans were cold, and my pancakes were cold. Who likes cold beans or pancakes, not me! Oh and I did mention that there something floating in my boyfriends coffee! This place is nothing like their San Diego location, and it had gone down slowly since opening. I really want this place to get back in shape because I really did enjoy coming here!

  • D H.

This place is getting more expensive each time when we visit. An average omelette can cost $10 or more without a drink. The portion from it is not even matching up this price level at all. I will greatly reduce our visits to this place.

  • Melissa L.

I've been to the Broken Yolk in San Diego which I enjoyed more as fas as inside decor and spacing. I got an omelette which was just ok. But everyone else's food was so good. Their nutella crepes were amazing! Their soda cups are huge! Friendly service.

Love this place! Restaurant is clean and inviting, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. I have tried the monte cristo, Ronaldo omelet and fried chicken and waffles. All were great, nice portions. The pecan syrup for the fried chicken and waffles should be illegal it's so good. Gets a bit busy on the weekends, but I've never had to wait more than 15min for a table and they have both indoor and outdoor seating.

This place is amazing! I got Nutella banana crepes & my hubby got the southwestern eggs Benedict. We shared both & they were delicious! Their coffee is really good too! We'll be back soon. It was pretty busy on a Wednesday morning around 9 so that says a lot about a place! :)

We tried Broken Yoke Orange for the first time this morning. What a great place. It has been open a couple of years; before that the building was a Carrows. The place was very clean and neat. They specialize in eggs, of course so we had to have an omelet. The omelets are fabulous and LARGE with four eggs. We decided to split the "Border Check" and had the jalapeño's changed to mild chilies. It was absolutely delicious. While we were waiting for our order, the manager stopped by our table and gave us three muffins to sample that they were considering for their Fall menu. Great. Our server was Christina. She was prompt, courteous, friendly and kept our coffee hot. We are definitely coming back. This is now my favorite breakfast place.

  • Isidro G.

I really wanted to like this place but aside from our very friendly server, everything just fell flat and I'm not talking about the omelette. Let me start by stating that breakfast is kinda my thing and fave meal of the day. This was your average breakfast dinner. Everything was ok, middle of the road but nothing to get excited about. Very uninspired menu with all your typical breakfast options. Fellow yelpers got this right. With so many great breakfast options in central OC I don't think I'll be back. Sorry broken yolk!! The best thing you've got going on is your name!

  • April F.

I went a few wknds ago and had the country fried steak. It is the best thing on the menu. Everyone is so friendly, even the owner/manager stopped by our table and asked how everything was and engaged in conversation with us. It was awesome.. Will definitely be back!

Our orders were not correct thats the only reason for 3 stars. That being said food was good. It was very busy at 10am on a Friday morning. Only had a 10minute wait. There is a patio outside. Food portions were large.

I was initially excited when the Broken Yolk came to Orange as I had nothing but great experiences in San Diego. But unfortunately, after the three visits I've made, I've yet to have a good one. Each time the service was lacking from an aloof and un-attentive staff. Each time it took between 30-45 minutes to get our food, with manager apologizing on two occasions. So I have to say this past visit was the last straw for me. The only reason I am leaving two stars is.. one for the food, which is decent, and another for Alicia, that stepped in to save the day when our waitress abandoned ship. Please take everyone's advice and avoid, until the staff is properly trained.

  • Bruce W.

Attended their soft-opening this morning. 4 stars for a great renovation of the previous Carrow's location, their very friendly staff and a great looking breakfast and lunch menu. The portions are large, and most of the menu options fall into the "comfort food" category. Our party tried the Monte Cristo sandwich, the Machaca Eggs and the Nutella Crepes with bananas. All items were well executed, even during this training period. I'm sure it will be a hit once they open to the public in a couple of days. Patrons are advised to be patient with a new location, as it takes a while for the crew to get into their daily groove, I think these guys will get there pretty fast!

The food was very tasty besides the biscuits and gravy they were just all right. I had the eggs Benedict which were very delicious and the service was very friendly and helpful. The only problem I had that is was pretty expensive for a breakfast place and you don't get a lot of food for what you are paying other then that I really enjoyed it.

I'm at the Broken Yolk Cafe every Wednesday and love their food, big portions, affordable prices, and hospitality. And on top of all that you get to look at pretty girls too! What more can you ask for?

  • Vicky H.

My daughter ordered the multigrain pancake , it was ok but the middle part is not cooked. The Eggs Benedict I ordered is alright. The service need a little bit of attention our server came by once and I have to ask for more coffee. Over all review it's okay nothing special. But we will try to visit again to see if the food quality and service will be better.

  • Timothy T.

We love coming here for breakfast. Ideal for short or small group. Not too great on space but the omelettes make up for squeezing in between tables. Def a must try. Make sure to try their omelette first if it's your first visit here. We made a mistake of ordering their waffle and chicken with a high expectation and came out with a bad taste. We gave it another try and went straight for the omelettes, second trip was a success.

I have to say that while my initial review stands I am impressed by an email that I received from the owner who wanted more information about my experience and gave me some hope of some changes. I look forward to going back Ina few months and giving this place one more try.

Ive tried this place a few times...each time I come the wait gets longer. I was in today for lunch at 12. Me and my co-workers all ordered salads. We didnt receive them til almost 1. Because of this we were forced to pack our food up and eat in the car on the way back to work. When we brought this to the managers attention all he could do was apologize. Not once did he offer to comp anything. .not even our drinks. I know things happen and are out of our control but...never will I go back. There's no excuse for me to pay $15 on a meal I have to eat out of a box when I sat at your restaurant for an hour.

  • Katy M.

The food was mediocre. My boyfriend had Eggs Benedict and orange juice and I had just an oatmeal and chocolate milk, and the bill was 30 bucks. Ridiculous. And the waitress asked if my bf wanted another orange juice , not mentioning it wasn't a free refill(which is not right , I work at a cocos and you should always let them know what's a free refill and what's not) and he said sure , had a couple sips and she charged him another 4 bucks for it , lame. Never eating here again unless we win the lottery.

  • Tony S.

A friend told me about the Broken Yolk in Orange. It was very busy and there was a bit of a wait, but it was well worth it. The food was excellent, and the asst. manager, JR and his staff, realized that everyone was getting irritated and upset so they really stepped up and made everyone as comfortable as possible. I run company with 50+ employees and hope that all of them had the customer service, tact, and professionalism that JR and his staff displayed today under pressure without bring asked. I will be back for two reasons, the food and for the integrity displayed by the staff and the asst manager. Keep up the hard work and thank you Tony.

Food is delicious! My table ordered Border Benedict, Chilaquiles with chicken and green sauce and a "make your own" omelette. Everything tasted wonderful. Service was okay as far as timing but our server's attitude was rude. Don't know her name but she was the only one without a nametag on. I would definitely return for food but will make sure I do not sat in her section again.

Restaurant was packed- it had to be good! Always had heard how good it was from the San Diego locations. DO NOT ORDER THE CHICKEN and WAFFLES. It should've said.."Chicken STRIPS and Waffles in the title. Although it did say it in the description that you would be getting 2 pieces of strips. Who reads the description anyway!? Chicken and waffles should be just that! The presentation was embarrassing. My husband sent it back...and was thinking about ordering something else but the wait for our food was already 20 mins! The guy who brought out our food told us that if we wanted chicken and waffles- we should go to Roscoe's. Who says that!? He even gave us a heads up that roscoes will be opening in Anaheim. Not someone I would want working for me--driving away customers! My grilled chicken Cesar wrap was very dry (hard to swallow) with barely any lettuce or dressing that usually comes in a wrap. The crinkle fries are good, but how do you mess up frozen fries!? The rest of the menu looked good but I won't be coming back to try it. First impressions are EVERYTHING! Why go back with the chance of it being horrible again? Service was ok. Our experience was mainly due to food not the service. Not our waitress' fault that our food took so long and was bad.

Great service, food was good. Had heard great reviews and decided to check it out on Saturday. We arrived a little after 9 am and only waited about 10 minutes. We were seated at our table when one of the assistants brought over two large glasses of water which we appreciated. A few minutes later our server Rose M. greeted us with a nice, genuine smile and took our drink order. She delivered our drinks and took our food order, she gave me a great recommendation for the Tiki Toast. Hubby ordered the Country Benedict. His benedict paled in comparison to Kimmie's Coffee Cup. The sausage was commercial grade, smaller and fatter patty than the english muffin it sat on. The "country gravy" tasted like a mix between gravy and hollandaise with a sour taste and even had a yellow tint to it. He was very disappointed, but ate it anyway. My Tiki Toast was delicious. The caramel drizzle, stawberries and blueberries were the perfect complement to the thick hawaiian bread pieces. Throughout the breakfast and assistant refilled our coffee and iced tea continually, our drinks were never empty. We never had to ask for refills. Great service. We will definitely go back and try something else. It would be wonderful if The Broken Yolk Cafe opened a location in Huntington Beach. There is an empty former Sizzler at Goldenwest and Edinger or an empty former Denny's at Edinger between Gothard and Beach across the street from Bella Terra. Either of these empty buildings would be the perfect location for a Broken Yolk Cafe.

I was in Orange County today and surprised to see a Broken Yolk had opened. One had just opened near my home and I hadn't been to it yet so this would be a nice introduction. And because I am apparently a nice person, I gave them two stars instead of one. First I ordered machaca, one of my breakfast favorites. Thanks to being totally devoid of flavor, it was easily the worst machaca I've ever eaten. My dining mate had a mushroom omelet, which was overwhelmed with CANNED mushrooms. (Maybe if we were lucky, they were imported from China). To make it even better, I paid with a credit and didn't notice they didn't give me the card back. So tomorrow I have to go through all that fun stuff. Obviously, this is a one-visit restaurant, not for this restaurant but for the whole chain.

First time here, it won't be the last! Absolutely amazing! Get the "no-name" omelette, best omelette I've ever had. Also tried the blueberry pancakes, they were delicious, fluffy and light.

My boyfriend and I walked in a bit after they were supposed to close, which was at 3pm. Upon entering, we were not greeted promptly and had to wait a couple minutes to be seated. Although we had walked in a few minutes after closing hours, this does not excuse the poor customer service, terrible presentation, and overall quality of the food. I had ordered the "new" chicken and waffles with a frozen strawberry lemonade while my boyfriend had ordered the triple dip lunch special with plain water. As we were waiting for our food, I could not help but notice how dirty and sticky our tables were and how we were not promptly given utensils.. Finally, our food had arrived. I got two little pieces of overcooked, and not to mention BLAND chicken with a huge waffle underneath it.. All over-coated with powdered sugar. I also got my drink, which was just plain lemonade when I had clearly ordered strawberry. The frozen lemonade tasted way too sour and was mostly watered down. As I was eating my food, I was so displeased with the the taste that I had to force myself to down my food; as I do not enjoy sending things back and wasting it. The waffle was OK, but honestly, how the hell can you mess up a waffle? My boyfriends triple dip lunch special just looked like it was frozen fried food, and tasted like it as well. Honestly, I preferred eating that over my rubbery, under seasoned, tiny chicken pieces with an oversized, nothing-special-about-it waffle.. The waitress came by and just dropped off our check without saying a word when we were clearly not even half way done with our food. Mind you, we were not the only customers inside the restaraunt. Rude. She came back a bit afterwards to ask how our "food" was doing, clearly seeing the disdain on my face. I just nodded my head quickly when my boyfriend plainly said "It's OK..." She shrugged us off and walked away. Finally, I told my boyfriend to just pay for this food and get the hell out of here. She gathered our check quickly and provided a receipt with a plain, and fake sounding "Thank you". The price was around a whopping almost $30.00 for poorly made food! This experience was so terrible, I wish I could give this restaraunt no stars at all. It's over priced, basic breakfast foods that cannot even be cooked correctly. Don't bother coming. Save your money, go to Norms.

Attention neighbors of Orange, Tustin, Irvine, Santa Ana . . . this is a great place for breakfast! My husband and I moved to this area three years ago and complained how we could not find a great breakfast place. We even joked about opening up a restaurant so our neighbors could go to a place and get a great breakfast. Long and behold, The Broken Yolk opened up and we go every other weekend. The service is always great. The hostesses, waitresses, food runners, managers . . . everyone is friendly and helpful. Our drinks are never empty. So we've tried the following: Breakfast: Two eggs with pancakes and sausage - awesome! Border Check Omelet - awesome! Carne asada eggs benedict - awesome! Lunch: Burgers - juicy! THE GASLAMP is my ultimate favorite! All sandwiches and burgers come with a generous amount of fries or onion rings. This is a great restaurant for breakfast. The prices are fair, the portions are generous, the food is consistently well made and the service is always top notch. We definitely recommend and obviously, we come every other weekend.

My new favorite breakfast place in Orange. Sweet potato pancakes, eggs Benedict, delicious coffee with flavored creamers! It all makes me happy.

Alicia was our server, and she did a great job. She knew the menu and was friendly and attentive. Portions were huge. Two adults can easily share an omelette. My Jack of Hearts omelette was cooked very well. The eggs were not crispy, and it had the right amount of bacon, artichoke hearts, and cheese. Will definitely go back.

Great new addition to Orange - nice ambiance for a breakfast place. Our group tried many different menu items. Chocolate banana Crepes, sweet potato pancakes, omelets, Carne Asada Benedict is pretty different. Good coffee and fresh squeezed OJ. Great friendly and energetic staff.

So I have came here for lunch and to say hi to all the staff. They had improved on there service I thought. I recently applied and the staff is friendly, I am hoping to have a chance to help improve their service. The cooks did do a mistake friends ordered bacon grilled cheese. They forgot the bacon.. I heard the waiter saying you forgot the bacon! Lol it was funny. Wasn't in a rude way. So yeah that's my review for today

Good food and great portions. My omlett was very fluffy and my husband had the SBA omlett and loved the crispy hashbrowns. Monique is our server and she was very attentive with our coffee always filed and our food served immediately. The manager was all over it walking around and making sure everyone was happy and things were done properly.

Slow is the word of the day at Broken Yolk. Wait to get in, wait for menus, wait for drinks, wait for food, wait to pay. Food was not bad, large portions. The wait just killed this place for us. It was a Sunday at around 12 noon. Soooooo slow so beware.

Really good service. My sister and I decided to give the new place a try and most likely won't return. They have a great breakfast menu but everything is expensive, including the over $3.00 for ice tea and soda. We finally decided to share an omelet and although it was good, it was very unevenly split; for instance all but one jalapeno was on her side. Also, the place was very loud on the Saturday morning we were there. By 8:00 a.m. we had to speak very loudly to hear each other. It was disappointing.

BROKEN YOLK CAFE: Visit Date and Time: 9-18-2013 at 8:45 a.m. This is a new restaurant in the city of Orange that replaced the Carrow's that was previously there. Let me first start off by saying that their menu selections are not typical. The Omelet section is different and there are no usual's like the Denver omelet, etc. Price for Omelets are $9.99 - $11.99 (make you own) The coffee, which is typically Colombian was a bit weak, could have been stronger. It was not bitter and can be enjoyed without cream and sugar. The booths are pretty comfortable and spacious enough to comfortably sit four adults. The order to serving time was about 13-15 minutes which was a little bit slow for the amount of people there which was about 15-20 people at the time I ordered. The omelet was very big at least 4" across and about 10-11 inches ling, it really filled be up. The eggs were not burned and the ingredients were very good. The fruit bowl that can come with the meal had an orange slice, a cantalope slice a watermelon and honeydew mixture. The cantalope needed to have the rind cut away from it which was really the only downer and a bit awkward. Please note that the price for the meal was $13.xx for one person with coffee. The coffee was $2.49 which is expensive for that level of brew. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience and I probably will not return. Why? 1) Prices are expensive. Other than that, the restaurant seems to be having a good start. I would recommend this restaurant if you feel that the prices are justified.

    (3)
  • Michael W.

I've eaten here a few times for breakfast now and each time the food has exceeded my expectations, especially the omelets. I think what sticks out to me is the staff. They are seen to focus on guest service and making sure the customer is attended to, even if it isn't there serving station. They all seem to be checking in on me so to speak. They also seem to focus on cleanliness. One time a manager was politely correcting a busboy for not getting enough of the crumbs off the floor from under a table. One knock on this place is that it gets very busy on weekends so you may have lengthy wait, yet they still seem to get the food out in a timely manner. I would suggest this place to any of my friends.

Came back for breakfast, only two servers but Kasey did an awesome job! Big smile, friendly, and she even let me use my own coffee cup to drink from! Thank you for a wonderful breakfast. Thank you Kasey!

The service was good. I had the Machaca plate and it was bland. I do have a cold so that may be part of it. My dad had the Polish Sausage Ommlette and said he will probably get something else next time.

This is by far the worst Broken Yolk that I have ever been to. My wife and I used to go to the Carlsbad/La Costa location nearly every Sunday morning when we lived down there. Service was great and food was always on point. We were excited that we had a Broken Yolk near us when we moved up to Orange, however, that excitement went away after eating here. It was really slow when we came, yet the service was terrible. We ordered quickly and the food came out in a normal amount of time which was fine. Food quality was eh, definitely not up to par with other Broken Yolks. We didn't have place settings or condiments on our table when the food arrived. I asked the runner for them but they never came, so I went inside and got them myself. We later wanted drink refills, waitress was nowhere to be found (hadn't seen her since ordering), so again I went inside and served myself. She finally came by and dropped off the check, after 10 minutes of not seeing her again, we went up front and paid. I really wanted to like this place but won't be returning, too may other good options around.

$3.29 for iced tea! Really?! Prices of breakfast was to be expected. Had the eggs Benedict and it was alright ($11). Probably won't be back because the food wasn't amazing and neither was the service. I also think $3.29 for an iced tea is insane! It wasn't anything special.

They definitely need improvement! Seems a little chaotic and I've dined there a few times now and once for take out, I think each time our orders are just a bit off. Eggs aren't cooked the way we ordered, food took a super long time, phone orders were wrong and they ended up retaking our order once we got there to pick it up. It feels like each server has too many tables or something. I can't quite put my finger on it but it's disappointing since I LOVE BREAKFAST so much!

Their coffee is delicious, I can drink it black easy. But if you want to sweeten it they have flavored creamer AND flavor shots, I got one of caramel. Mmm. I ordered the breakfast sandwich modified: sourdough, no American cheese sub cheddar, and no ham sub avocado. Delicious. The waitress was friendly and didn't make me feel high maintenance. Thanks for my quick friendly start byc!

A little palm spring in orange county. YAS GAWD! Interior feels like a vintage palm spring mod chic house. It's very well decorated. They have spa water for you to sip on while you wait to be seated. Getting seated doesn't take too long. Plenty of table inside and outside on the patio (where you can bring your dogs.) We went here on a Sunday and place was packed but seating us was not a problem. I ordered the huevos chorizos" yummy yummy yummy get in my tummy. It wasn't too greasy and definitely a good portion. Servers are very nice and check on you more than enough time. Definitely a place to checkout for a Sunday breakfast/brunch.

First time been here having brunch with fambam. Reception very friendly and we were seated less than 5 minutes in spite of a busy crowd today. Love love love the food! Tiki toast is bomb! They do not scrimp on fruit. The food taste so natural! My picky kids gave all thumbs up! We'll be back with friends, soon

You only get one chance to make a first impression and it can make the difference between new return customers or one off customers. Sadly, it looks as though my family and I will be the latter. I've wanted to try Broken Yolk for quite some time now, and it turned out to be a huge disappointment. I'd read the reviews and heard good things, so I thought we'd check it out (Saturday, November 1st). There was quite a few people waiting to be seated on this busy Saturday morning/afternoon. No host as I walked in so I decided to write my name on the wait list myself, no biggie. Having six other parties ahead of us, the wait was surprisingly short, about ten minutes or so. We were seated and this is where the service falls apart. Our server, Chandra, just seemed to be miserable. No smiles, no eye contact. She had no problem smiling at the booth next to ours, but just seemed very unwelcoming to us. Once our drinks had arrived, she kind of just dropped them on the table and left. No straws. We waited a few minutes to get her attention. We asked her while she was bussing some plates, she said sure after she dropped of the dirty dishes. Yet, as soon as she does, she goes to three other tables across from us to drop off/pick up checks, smile and small talk to the booth next to us, before finally giving us some straws. She could have easily dropped off the straws as she passed our table BEFORE doing her rounds with the checks and it would have been more efficient. On top of that, there were only place settings for two. We were a party of four, so we had to ask the food runner to bring out the additional utensils. Once the food came out, our server made the single requisite check, pretty much two bites into our meal. After that, she was pretty much MIA. Food itself was ok. Nothing outstanding. I got the Border Benedict, but I feel I could get a better bang for the buck at my local Albertos/Alejandros/Albertacos with their carne asada fries. As we were finishing up our meal, we noticed another couple across from us experience the same situation with their drinks, no straws and a long wait to flag her down. God forbid you ask her for a take out box. She just seemed annoyed at DOING HER JOB. Look, I understand that it's Saturday morning, a peak time for breakfast/brunch restaurants. However, as someone who works in the food service industry myself, as well as my wife working in the food service industry, I ALWAYS saw the busiest times as the best times to make more money in tips, and pushed myself to excel even more in those situations. So, I don't think that is ever an excuse. You know the old saying if you can't take the heat. Well, it applies to the dining room as well. In the end, our tip was commensurate with the service we received. I'm sure there might be other things on the menu worth trying, but I'm not sure I would be back. There are so many other breakfast spots without the pretentiousness of being cool or modern.

First time at this place, and the staff was AWESOME! We came for a holiday party, SUREFIRE CPR, and they took care of 41 people pretty well! We went to a different restaurant, but they said they couldn't handle our party. Thank you Broken Yolk Cafe for the AWESOME customer service!!

I love the syrup they serve with the chicken and waffles. It tasted like a mix of maple syrup, pecans and butter served warm. It was delicious.

Checked this place out with some friends for brunch. There was a short wait time. Since it was hot outside they offered cold water at the hostess stand. That was awesome - it's the little things. Restaurant atmosphere is upbeat, clean, modern and kinda felt like Palm Springs ambience. Food and service is good - I tried an omelette with salsa and pinto beans on the side. Yeah beans! I'm guessing the core menu is kinda geared toward Mexican but not sure. They also offered eggs Benedict and other options. I would recommend and return again soon.

A terrific lunch time eatery. The Broken Yoke puts a spin on the routine commercialized "after church" fare. With an ever-expanding menu The Broken Yolk offers both typical ad inventive takes for the breakfast and lunch crowd. The border Benedict had been recommended by a friend. It featured 2 sweet corn cakes topped with poached eggs, carne asada, and topped with a poblano sauce. As a Benedict connoisseur I had to order a side of hollandaise to cement tradition. The sweetness of the corncakes played up the savory meat and the salty sauce. I ended up adding the poblano sauce with the hollandaise and it was DELIGHTFUL. Mixing a kick of home cooked Mexican staples with the creamy tangy traditional dish delivered a belly full of happiness. They also stack your table with all of the condiments you could ever need. Not gonna lie but I used the maple syrup to mix with some ketchup on the hash browns I chose as a side. The breakfast fat kid in me threw a rager! As a side tip - ask for flavored creamer in your coffee! They brought us vanilla and Irish cream! Finally - if you're used to old school biscuits and gravy, a plane ole jane for an omelet or pancakes, or if your looking to taste a new delight, head on over!...just don't get there after 3 as they're not quite open yet for dinner.

So good! Met some friends for lunch, and it was good and crowded (always a good sign) but not uncomfortable. Seating outside and inside, and everything people were ordering looks so good! Definitely a must-come-back kind of place. I ordered a spicy tofu wrap, served with homemade potato chips. Where I'm from we called these, "Saratoga Chips," and they were perfect! The tofu wrap was a little unwieldy--kept falling apart on me--but it was very tasty. I will definitely be back! One thing to point out: Our server, while taking our order, said goodbye to another customer by name. When you have a business that makes people come often enough that they are familiar, and a serving staff that is friendly enough to greet them by name, that's a win-win-WIN in my book. Way to go, Broken Yolk!

Awesome breakfast place here in Orange. They have really improved the service here over the past few months. The servers are more attentive and the food arrives pretty quickly. What makes this place great is the consistent quality in their food across all their menu items. (But if you're really into chicken and waffles I recommend trying elsewhere.) The price is good and service is great. If you're an early bird take advantage of great their specials before 8am.

After reading that the food was good and that service had improved we went for breakfast on a Friday morning. The guy at the counter looked lost and wrote our name down with a crayon. We weren't offered a seat and when we found the waiting area there was a busing cart full of dirty dishes parked right next to it. After a short wait we were shown to a booth. We waited for ten minutes before somebody came by and then they only said they would be back. We waited another ten minutes and then walked out. The menu needs work. There were pancakes but no pancakes and bacon or eggs. It felt "al a cart." Biscuits and gravy but no bisquits and gravy and eggs. If the menu had been better we might have weathered the poor service.

I came to eat on a Saturday morning so they were nice and packed. I ordered a Brian waffle and bacon and added a side of two scrambled eggs. The bacon and eggs were cooked perfectly. The big issue was the waffle. The waffle itself was a bit overcooked. Not bad but just a tad. The butter was ice cold and the syrup was only room temp. So I ate an ice cold waffle. Aside from this issue, I loved the Broken Yolk Cafe and can't wait to come back.

Wow, what happened. We went in for breakfast on a Saturday morning and it was a disaster. My dish was cold, my wife's was cooked twice too long. Service was terrible. Asked for salsa and was brought a verde sauce. Loved this place, but really went down hill. Will not be returning. Didn't want to even give this place one star but Yelp makes me. Would eat this at a -5 star.

The Broken Yolk Cafe just recently opened and I was pretty excited. A new breakfast joint in the neighborhood always makes me happy. So three out of four of us took a Saturday morning to try out The Broken Yolk. My daughter got the kids pancakes with sausage, my wife got a Canadian bacon and cheese omelet with hash browns and I got two eggs with corned beef hash. With drinks this meal was about $35. My wife started by trying to cut up my daughters pancakes. My wife said the pancakes felt tough while she was trying to cut them. My daughter did not seem to mind too much because she did finish almost all the pancakes and finished both sausages. I did try a couple of the left over pieces of pancake and I thought they were chewy and dense. An okay stack of pancakes. My wife's Canadian bacon and cheese omelet was loaded with thick cubes of Canadian bacon and lots of melted cheese. My wife felt the omelet was a little bit undercooked for her liking. She also asked for her hash browns to be well done but that did not happen. I also tried some of this omelet and I thought the eggs were fluffy and the filling was plentiful. The Canadian bacon was warm but I thought it could have been cooked a bit more. Other then that no real complaints here with the omelet. The hash browns were a bit under cooked even for my liking. The inside of the hash brown was almost like mashed potatoes but lacking any kind of seasoning. Desperate to find a good plate of corned beef hash I thought I would order this and see what The Broken Yolk Cafe had to offer. Unfortunately for me it was some canned variation of corned beef hash that was simply laid down on a flat top griddle to crust it up. The texture of this type of corned beef hash is not pleasant and simply unappealing. The two eggs were cooked to a perfect over medium so there was plenty of yolk to help mask the tinny flavor of the hash. They had a fantastically fluffy blueberry muffin however and let me tell you, it was awesome! Chalk full of ripe blueberries and the perfect amount of sweetness. The muffin was moist enough to were I did not even need any butter. I would call our breakfast at The Broken Yolk Cafe mediocre at best. There were no glaring mistakes that made me dislike The Broken Yolk Cafe but at the same time there was nothing special that made me want to revisit The Broken Yolk Cafe. My search continues for a local establishment that servers a great plate of corned beef hash. If you have any tips feel free to leave a comment. If you decide to check out The Broken Yolk Cafe do not walk in expecting mind blowing food and you will be satisfied with your meal.

Tried this place once and did not even get as far as a coffee at my table. We walked in and the waitress that did not help us just stared like she was lost, we asked for a table and she said with an attitude "do you want to just sit wherever you want" and then walked away! We then found our own table and sat and watched people walk in and get menus and help. 15 minutes later we still had no menus or water or coffee.

Friend treated for breakfast and suggested broken yolk cafe. I ordered 2 eggs poached and a toasted English muffin. (Around $5) Eggs poached perfectly, but need to be served in a warm dish to help keep warm. County Benedict, a yogurt parfait and a Bloody Mary were also ordered. Everyone enjoyed. Very friendly wait staff and prompt service all the way thru. Give any cafe credit for offering poached eggs. Def Not the easiest of breakfast egg options for any kitchen to handle.

The foods was alright and the service was horrible. My friends and I was here at 8am and we waited for a while to be seated. Once somebody finally notice that we were standing there to be seated the girl greeted the group behind us. We ask if we can have a table outside and the girl just handed us three menus and say there is somebody outside. She didn't walk us outside or have somebody seat us. Once we were seated we had different server every time we needed something. It is pretty sad that there is no organization and how can the owner let a business run like this?!?! If this continue they will either go out of business or the sever will never make money because you wouldn't know who to tip.

I came here for the first time today, got their coupon and tried it with my aunt. We ordered three different entrees to share. Banana nut waffles, Nutella banana crepe, and chicken and waffles. They were all delicious. The only complaint: we were ready to order and it took a while for them to come to us and it wasn't that busy. But overall, the food was really good!

  • R G.

We live close by, and come here often - We almost always get the same thing as well (French Toast, and a Benedict of some sort). The food isn't incredible, but it is always out in a timely fashion and very decently priced (you get quite a bit for the price). What we don't necessarily like is the seating staff. Every one of them (that we have encountered) has a serious attitude. No matter if it is busy or slow...same attitude. Servers are nice though. Coffee they serve is underwhelming...and quite frankly kind of gross.

The food is good, not great. I was expecting a lot more. The food isn't the reason for my bad review. I can't even say we got bad service. That would imply that we actually got service. Our waitress, Kate, took our order, that was about it. She wasn't even the one that brought our food or even our bill. We literally did not see her after she took our order. Luckily, the manager was walking around or we wouldn't have even gotten refills or our bill.

The menu does not reflect the restaurant's currently offered meals... So don't get too attached to your initial choice. My boyfriend ordered the eggs benedict with hashbrowns. He reports that the eggs benedict would rate a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10... Bland but fresh. The hashbrowns were a slightly above room temperature solid mass. We both had coffee which was fresh and enjoyable.

I came here when it first opened and got a veggie scramble it was supposed to be with onions bell peppers mushrooms everything was supposed to be cooked but it wasn't eggs with raw onions gross So i thought i would give it one last try I came today got eggs and ham scramble you can't mess that up , I was wrong the eggs were so runny and gross everytime I took a bite I has to wipe my chin , they must use eggs carton or something and my sisters plate came with hair No thank you I won't be coming back

I has been hearing a lot about this place and how some people like it and some don't so my boyfriend and I decided to try it. Service wasn't as bad as the other reviews say. The waiter would come and check up on us and so would the manager. That's always a plus 'cause it shows management cares. The food, however, was horrible. It looked good but it was distasteful. I got the machaca scramble. It was very bland. I added salt and pepper but there was no fixing it. My boyfriend got their wild Wild West burger. The BBQ sauce was the only thing flavoring the burger and there wasn't much of it. The beef patty wasn't seasoned. Overall, everything was bland. Please season your food!!

I'm usually too lazy to go out for brekkie and prefer lunch/dinn grub at other times of the day. So I'm going to be generous in my review. Cute looking shop. Built like a typical spires/carrows/marie calendars type place (which I can't remember the last time I've been to)... but with some hardcore touching up/remodeling. Do you really wanna read a review about how it looks? Service - A lot of their breakfast food comes with a type of meat that I don't eat (sausage, ham, etc.) and they're not too keen on substitutions... and when I asked for it to just be left off they still put it on my plate. For somebody with dietary restrictions just brushing it off isn't an option, so had to wait for it to be remade. (Or maybe they scraped of off and spit in my food who knows?) Food - I ordered some egg benedict-ish type dish. 'Twas pretty good, not great. Portions were huge. Ambiance - crowded aisles and LOUD. Mixed crowd.

This place is awful. The server Monique took care of us... And by 'take care of us' I mean ask what we wanted and never came back. The food took absolutely forever, my eggs Benedict was cold, and my family's food was cold as well. The place seemed kinda busy, which is weird because the food is only half eaten or picked at from everyone's plates when they get up to leave. This place is awful. Avoid avoid!!

We are currently seated and eating. But I can't leave this place without reviewing. I have a friend from Temecula who RAVES about Broken Yolk. So naturally when this place opened up in Orange, I needed to try it. I love breakfast! We waited for nearly 30 minutes before I went in to check on our table. Apparently our name was scratchy and illegible so we were not called (about six parties were below us on the list and were seated before we were). Finally seated, we were promptly served water in the tiniest glasses. We ordered and waited. and waited. and waited for our food. Servers were going to other tables WITH OUR FOOD and totally bypassing us. we felt invisible. Our food came. It was good. Edible. But certainly not worth the wait and the chaos surrounding it. Our toast and muffins were never given to us. The waitress, Sydney, was great. That's my one star. She was very nice. We most likely will not be coming back. It's just not worth it.

Not gonna lie this place is amazing. About my 5th time coming to eat breakfast/lunch. Love their good morning burger. (medium rare patty yum). Their portions are right on the money , leaving you satisfied every time! Never would have known about this place if it wasn't for Eleanor! Service is fast and the waiters/waitresses are very welcoming.

San Diego location was amazing. I was really stoked when I heard Broken Yolk was coming to Orange. 1st experience: I got a Border Benedict which in theory looked amazing. "Two poached eggs and seasoned carne asada on top of two sweet corn cakes, smothered in our homemade poblano sauce. Served with homefries, hashbrowns, fresh fruit, beans or Mexican rice." Good, right? The flavors were ok but what made it marginal was that it didn't taste fresh and was not even lukewarm. I can't remember what my husband ordered but the muffin his meal came with had been microwaved and re-microwaved enough times that he couldn't cut it with a butter knife. He was sawing away and when he paused, the indentation in the muffin from the knife rose up and actually filled back in. The server was apologetic and he got a new muffin. We didn't mention the temp or not so freshness of the border Benedict as we chalked it up to the newness of the staff. 2nd experience: we REALLY wanted to like this place, so we came back in hopes the kinks had worked themselves out. I got the Border Benedict again and received the same exact result. This could be a really great dish. My husband ordered a breakfast quesadilla which I believe was between $8-$12. Full size tortillas. The actual ingredients in the quesadilla were probably a total of 1/4 cup (cheese, egg, and some type of meat) This wasn't what you envision when you order a breakfast quesadilla. We still didn't make mention of the border Benedict but did send back his quesadilla. (I try to never be THAT PERSON at a restaurant, but come on, an almost empty quesadilla? We had to say something. ) We left knowing we had tried, but still just weren't impressed. Broken Yolk, we really wanted it to work!!

Been here three times previous to today for breakfast and always left happy!!! Great coffee. Attentive service. Today, however, something was up, and service was slow (any place can have a bad day!) but it still turned out well --- management went out of their way to make things right and we'll definitely be back. Good people, keep this on your list of must-eat breakfasts in Orange!!!

Good food and decent portions. I had an omelette which was cooked well and quite tasty. Biscuit was huge, but a little dry, so honey helped. McKenna was a great server, who was quite prompt and friendly. Only issue, which wasn't that big, was that if they have a hostess as a cashier, they may want two, as we and another couple waited 2-3 minutes before being greeted, as the hostess was busy seating people and then had to ring someone in. If the place was packed, it could've been annoying.

Avoid this place at all costs if you care about customer service and decent tasting food. You want servers (& the mgr) who look annoyed taking your group order? Then this is the place! If you come here for the breakfast special, don't expect steak to be served--when you're one of the first customers in the morning. It will only magically appear if you order from the regular menu. I have even visited with a group of four and the service was equally terrible. Food tastes straight-up awful breakfast special or not. This place is only interested in flipping tables. I tried to give this place a chance from the soft opening til today but after four visits, shame on me--enough is enough.

Place is awesome. Worth the wait. Had the no name omelet. Bomb. It's like a food party in your mouth and breakfast is the best. All these haters probably eat frozen meals and forget what real food taste like.

First time here and the family enjoyed it. I recommend the chicken fried steak and eggs as the gravy was good with good portion size. The server, Madison, was attentive and very accommodating. She split the kids meal in half without a problem. Wifey enjoyed all the little egg references in the restaurant. The best part....We got 20% off our bill!!!!!!

  • Monica L.

Service was slow, they forgot a whole entrée but after the rest of the party had halfway eaten their food... There were empty seats but a huge wait outside... the food was good to an extent. the hash browns were amazing according to my companions. And the French Toast was on the pricey side considering it was almost 9 dollars for the 8 piece french toast without any sides which you order extra. The alcoholic drinks were strong considering the venue ordered the sunset mimosas and it was mostly champagne in a large glass at 6 dollars it was worth it. And then the bill came and they had forgotten the toast for the omelette combo. It wasn't the worst experience ever and the food was decent but my companions and I are not likely to go again.

handing out a 4 here, the breakfast burrito is all i have to go on A+ well made and almost a full avocado in it. bacon eggs cheese perfect! home fries were good too simple no peppers or onions just the spuds. The person I went with had eggs Benedict said it was great. I tied a bite of waffle it was perfect too. The menu with pretty loaded. Service was good 'cept the blonde waitress gave me a hard time. 4.5

I have been here several times! It is my new favorite breakfast/lunch spot in Orange! Their biscuit alone is worth coming to have. All the food was great. Best place in Orange by far to get breakfast. My go to place was Kimmy's, but this place is better. Can't wait to go back and try other dishes.

Pathetic! My boyfriend and I were really excited about trying this place today but were quickly very disappointed. This is basically how our experience was.. First, we were told it was a 15 minute wait after 45 minutes I went inside to check the status. They had skipped us entirely and let three groups who arrived after us go first. We were finally seated for about 10 minutes before we were offered drinks. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs with hashbrowns and a biscuit. My boyfriend ordered his usual eggs over easy and bacon. My food was actually pretty good which is why I gave the two stars. They brought out his food with scrambled eggs instead of over easy. We told the server Amd instead of just taking care of it and bringing him a separate plate of eggs, she took his whole plate! I felt a little guilty starting on mine when he had nothing in front of him. Well the waitress eventually realized her mistake and brought his plate back out. By that time it was cold. Still no eggs over easy though. She said she would bring it back separately but then they brought us our check! Nice... Very disappointing. They did offer us 6 dollars off which was nice of them I guess but maybe if they would read their reviews they could implement some training in standard of service. The staff seemed very hurried, rushed, and unorganized. I could swear I saw a waitress spinning in circles trying to remember where she was supposed to be. Needless to say we won't be back and would not recommend this restaurant.

worst breakfast place in the area. I have nothing good to say about it. the service was slow. Had trouble getting a second cup of coffee. The floor was dirty .Spilled food and crumbs Don't they know about keeping it looking good. Our omelet was second rate at best ... With such good places as Arthur's and Flappy Jacks not far. Why go here?

I was so disappointed with the Mediocre service and food. Fifteen dollars for my coffee and an omelette, not including tip!!

Frequent customer but won't be back for some time. Changes have been made: smaller plates meant less potatoes, omelets were rubbery with very little cheese, no drink refills, service sparse and cleanup rushed to get us out. Too bad, but like many new places after a while it gets bad.

Definitely Not Ready for Prime time This restaurant has been open for over 2 months now and has still not got its food or service up to par. I've been waiting to go to the new Orange location for my birthday. We went on a Saturday and the wait was not too long. When seated, I immediately smelled an "old smelly dish cloth" smell on the table so had to ask a manager if the staff could wipe down the table with a clean cloth. It was busy and our food took about 25 minutes to arrive. The eggs on my eggs Florentine were supposed to be poached but were almost fully cooked and hard so I asked the waitress to take it back. My uncle told her that it was my birthday and that I had wanted to come here. The biscuit that came with my uncle's plate did not include butter. This was the same for the muffin that came with my sister's omelette. I guess you need to ask for butter from this place. My aunt's French Dip was pretty dry and nothing special. When the waitress brought my new eggs Florentine, the eggs were nicely poached but I was so disappointed with the hollandaise sauce which tasted like a package mix with no tang or freshness and the hash browns were mealy and tasteless. We had to ask multiple times for coffee refills and water. They should know by now that you should never let a customer's coffee cup or water cup go dry. They should also know that if you have a breakfast place, the wait staff should always carry a coffee decanter or water pitcher instead of an empty hand when walking around. One waiter sort of brushed me off when I told him the coffee looked really light. I could see it was light as he was pouring it. My sister and uncle confirmed it was really light and asked if they could get coffee from another pot. This is after the waiter spilled some coffee on the table and on my uncle's bare foot. He did not acknowledge the spill and left. We had to ask the waitress for napkins to wipe it up! And this is after she walked by a couple of times. This place is overpriced for the food you get and the service is terrible. I always like to give a place a second chance but why should I when there are other more reputable places to have breakfast close by.

Was good, hopefully gets better after the just opened issues sort out. We came in early for breakfast and had a couple of the $4.99 specials, which will have us giving them another try. Food was good, but not overall special. Plate sized pancakes, but again, not especially good, just good. Same for service, good, but nothing special. We don't drink coffee, and water glasses went empty a few times. First time the check showed regular prices instead of specials, and generally kinda slow getting out the door when we were finished with our meals. East Chapman is a very competitive area for breakfast, so I hope they get their act together soon as I like choices.

This place just opened in Orange and from the line out the door I expected it to be fantastic but it was just ok. We went on a Monday at 9am, it wasn't crowded but the noise level was very loud. The place is bright and cheery and the service was upbeat and nice. A manager even stopped to see how everything was. It was the food that was the problem. All our meals were overcooked, even the pancakes. How do you overcook pancakes!? I had the Mom omelet frittata style and the eggs were too done and my husband's omelet was also overcooked. We will probably go back, but not until they've had some time to work out the kinks.

Breakfast is back! Food was excellent -something for everyone. I had the Border Benedict: a spin on the traditional Eggs Benedict by serving the poached eggs on sweet corn cakes, carne asada replacing the Canadian bacon and then topped with a mild poblano (green pepper) sauce. Very different and delicious. The service was great at every level with everyone eager to please. This will be my new go-to breakfast place.

As an East guy that grew up in Diners, the Broken Yolk could give the best of the best New York diner a run for their money. It was moms home cooking but with a better ambiance. I went the first two days and the staff recognized me from the day before and asked if I was having my usual:) I am ecstatic to have such an amazing restaurant with quality food and service thats so reasonable this close to home. I hope they stay open for dinner so I can watch the sports package morning, noon and night. I thought the ones in San Diego were good but this one takes the cake. I highly recommend the French toast, chicken and waffles and all the omelets. Cant wait for football season, mimosas, eggs and football. Life is good!

This place just made our weekend. From the excellent, attentive service to the delicious food, Broken Yolk Cafe left nothing to be desired! I had the Western Benedict and my dining partners agreed that I made the best choice, though their meals of omelets, eggs, or pancakes were also amazing! We felt very welcome in their family-oriented ambience and this is absolutely on my list as a regular weekend brunch spot.

Came in this morning for breakfast. I had the Californian omelette with home fries and a brisket with gravy. It was amazing! The omelet was huge and probably the best gravy I've ever had. Our servers name was Monique. She was very friendly and knowledgable of the menu. Our food came out very quickly especially for a party of four. I will defiantly be back.

Too loud, too expensive, long wait, and food that's just okay. The price for soft drinks **alone** is absurd..

2 stars because it was pretty fast and decent service. I wish I could give a better review but the food was terrible. I had heard so many great things about this place and was super excited to try it. We were seated quickly and our order placed quickly as well. Although I could have waited longer for better tasting food. I ordered the biscuits and gravy. Yuck. Pretty runny and bland. So disappointing. My 2 yr old had the kids meal, with 2 giant and pretty tough pancakes. I'd like to experience the greatness that I've been told about, but I hesitate to go back. A breakfast joint that can't even get biscuits and gravy right... I shake my head in sadness.

On average, the price of a breakfast, sans drink is about $11. Not ridiculous. Still, the kitchen is very slow, the service is inconsistent, the food is mediocre and the overall experience leaves one thinking about other options: Norms and Cappy's come to mind. This place needs a while to get its act together. Or to make room for the next occupant.

Drove from Mission Viejo, after all , based on the name how bad could it be? We were very pleased with our experience. Not only was our server, Alicia, well versed on the menu items but was also very instructive on the portion sizes and our preferences. Asking that our omelet be shared was not an issue and the serving was evenly split; along with duplicate sides for us to enjoy. We shared our kudos with Brian, the GM, and let him know that we'd return again and try the other fare on the menu.

This is our 2nd visit to the Broken Yolk. We went last week and it was worth coming back to. Today was a different story. First of all there were ants crawling on our table. They kindly put us at a different booth. But then they sat another family there and had to move them out due to the ants. They got parts of both of our orders wrong. And the pancakes which looked delicious, actually had no flavor to them at all. I have never seen my husband leave pancakes on the table! We were seated close to the grill/staging station and the manager mentioned that one of the tables had been served the wrong order twice. Not sure what's going on, but I don't think that we will be going back. BTW, there were still ants on the table when we left.

I am one of those that love corn beef hash, hash browns, eggs over easy - all with a touch of ketchup. Hot cup of black coffee and a tall glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. I have been to Broken Yolk twice now just for this meal. Way more than I can eat but it's so good. Busy, upbeat, bright restaurant. Lots of help - folks to take your order, others to bring it to you, others to re-fill your coffee. Folks at the end to wish you a nice day. Perfect place to get a bite and get on with your day!

Their best offerings are...no surprise..eggs...followed by south of the border menu but if you venture into pancakes and french toast you will pay more and be disappointed. So so service..we wanted to love this place but that isn't going to happen.

Based on the history of the Broken Yolk Café and recommendations from friends the family was expecting something outstanding. Not! We were seated quickly in the patio on a Sunday morning. This was encouraging. The glass of champagne was an excellent pour for the price. And then it all went down hill. A very long wait (30 minutes) for our food after we placed our order. Five of the family members finally received their food - cold. Cold fries, cold hamburgers, tasteless slaw, and cold quesadilla. My food only arrived after I requested the manager to drop by our table so I could express our dissatisfaction. My Border Benedict finally arrived and was actually piping hot. Hummmm - me thinks the order was never placed initially. The other challenge on the patio were the bees - lots of bees. Bees all over the honey jars, bees all over us, bees everywhere. We brought the problem to the attention of several staff members and received the famous "shoulder shrug". Wonder what they would have done if one of us had been stung. To give the manager credit he wrote off half of our bill - a nice $35.00 savings. But sadly we won't be back.

I have to give this place five stars overall! The food is better than what you would find at IHOP and more diverse than the original pancake house. I think the flavors are better than that of Denny's and the prices are reasonable. Don't expect to get food with mind boggling flavor profiles, but at the very least you will get the comfort you expect from breakfast! Now food aside, the staff make this place worth five stars. This place is always busy, but we always get seated promptly. I think the staff is so friendly and really make you feel welcome. Even on the busiest of mornings, the service is great. I'm sure there have been times where the server could have moved faster, but you don't care about that when you're with good company and, equally important, enjoying good food. I definitely recommend you go there at least once to try the tiki toast. Then hopefully you'll want to put this place on your come back again list :)

My son recommended that we come here since he and his friends like it. I had gone in wanting to order an omelette but then decided to order the steak and eggs - which turned out to be a mistake. My family was served their dishes first and of course the omelets looked good. Then my steak and eggs arrived and it looked yummy too. However, I ordered my steak medium rare and it was well done. *it was a very thin steak so I'm sure it didn't take much to cook. We informed our waitress about the steak and she said she would let the cook know. A little while later, she brought another steak, and my family were all just about finished with their meals. The new steak was cooked better, but it was REALLY gristley! A very disappointing steak & egg experience. And I probably need to go back to Broken Yolk again to give it another try. Lesson learned though - stick with your first choice - especially if it's an omelette. Just a side note, I'm not sure what omelette my son ordered - it had chili - it was delicious! Another note, breakfast for 5 of us came to almost $80 including drinks & tip. So just be aware in case you plan to take the whole fam!

Don't order Chicken n' waffles!!! Came here a while back, I believe it was their first week once they opened. Haven't been back since and I don't think I will go back, not if I'm paying for it at least. First impressions are everything, and I love chicken and waffles. When I saw that on the menu it was an easy choice, "two pieces of chicken and waffles". What you get for your $11 is two chicken nuggets and one waffle, singular, and nice n cold. If you're going to come eat here, don't order this and ruin your view of the place. I don't want to try the place again. Was really diggin the egg/70s look you have going tho.

Came on a random Wednesday around 10 am and this place was cracking! So naturally I think this place must be good! It was just OK. Don't know why ppl flock here? It's just like Denny's. Meh food. Pricier than Denny's, so why not go to Denny's then people? I'll mark this one off and keep driving up Chapman to grab a coffee at Starbucks & a Cronut at DK's instead.

Today I popped into The Broken Yolk once again because I was hungry and because I wanted a fabulous breakfast. I was not disappointed. There is something new on the menu which the waitress suggested. I tried it and I'm going to highly recommend it: an eggs benedict with bacon and avocado instead of Canadian bacon. I LOVE avocado and having that on the English muffin adds another whole delightful texture. The cook made those poached eggs exactly right, and the entire breakfast was a delight.

Fresh squeezed juices +1 Gigantic water glasses +1 Border Check Omelet-overabundance of jarred/canned jalapenos left a very sharp acidic mouthfeel. That aside the chorizo filling was flavorful and plentiful, egg was cooked well House potatoes + home made biscuit = way too much food, one entree can easily feed two people! No highs or lows for either starch, thought they complimented well with the dish Overall Thoughts A step of up Mom and Pop version of Denny's, take it for what it is and you'll leave just fine

Came last minute on a gloomy Saturday at 11 and there was no wait! Score! The service was quick & friendly for our party of 6 and it was much appreciated. Coffee is good. Sweet breakfast entrees were a huge treat, we tried: Tiki Toast Stuffed French Toast But the winner of the day (for me) was: Border Benedict Two poached eggs and carne asada on top of two sweet corn cakes, smothered in our homemade zesty poblano sauce. Topped with fresh serrano peppers. Served with homefries, hashbrowns, fresh fruit, beans or Mexican rice. Freaking amazing! Highly recommended!

There's a party in my tummy So yummy, So yummy Now there's a party in my tummy So yummy, so yummy I Love the party in my tummy! This is the song that kept playing over and over in my head as I was waiting for my table at Broken Yolk. Luckily, for a Sunday morning the wait time was only 10 minutes. Christina was our server and she was the best of the best. Top notch service, I felt like I was dining at 5 star restaurant. If this was the Olympics, she would get the Gold medal. Here's what we ordered from the Breakfast menu: - Machaca and Eggs Shredded beef with scrambled eggs, onions, tomatoes and green pepper, served with beans and tortillas - Huevos Divorciados Two eggs topped with green and red sauce, served with beans and tortillas. Substitutedd the beans for hash browns instead. - Mickey Mouse Pancake with 2 pieces of sausage - Side of Corned Beef Hash with diced potatoes The Americanized version of Machaca and eggs were good. They give you alot of shredded beef. Just a little disappointed it didnt come with rice, maybe that's the Asian part of me that wants rice with everything. Huevos Divorciados was pretty delish. Both the green and red sauce had a spicy little kick. Pancakes were nice and fluffy. I was surprised they were shaped like the Mickey Mouse head. Thumbs way from this Disney fan. The side of Corned Beef hash was ok. For only $3.59 they give you alot. It's good to get as a side but not as a full entree. Good breakfast spot, awesome service and great food. It's a winning combination that I would definitely come back to again.

We brought our Niece here for a Saturday morning breakfast. Found it on Yelp of course. We arrived to a busy restaurant but were seated fast since the place is huge. Fast service and had coffee in front of us in no time. I ordered the Border Check Benedict and Wifey had the Country Benedict. Mine was awesome and I wolfed it down. Wifey's was good too, but they somehow forgot to put eggs on hers so was a wait while they poached eggs for her. When it came, she loved hers as well. A good breakfast place and would recommend.

Second time here. The wait on Labor Day Monday wasn't too long 15 minutes. Server was nice. Forgot my friends coffee but brought mine. Smallest glasses for water I've ever seen. Fresh squeezed orange juice is indeed not fresh squeezed on site, says it on the box. My Nutella crepes w strawberries were great. My husband's Border Check omelet was fine. Friends hash browns were cold while ours were warm. Think we'll go somewhere else next time.

Damn, I forgot to take a pic of the Monte Cristo I got. Loved it!! The only thing I wished they had was some fresh cranberry jam/spread so I can create that sweet sour tangy taste! Got mine with hash browns so you can't go wrong there. Shared a bit of the chocolate chip pancake which was very average. If I'm in the mood for pancakes then I'll go down the block but if I want other breakfast items I will comeback to the Broken Yolk! Service was A+!!

Came here for breakfast with the family. It being Sunday morning, we were surpised to find the wait time only 10 minutes long. After being seated, we looked at the menu and ordered the Machaca plate and French toast combo with bacon and eggs. We also ordered two coffees. Food was good and service was prompt. Would come back again and try different items.

Really a 4.5 star place, minus half a star for unseasoned home fried potatoes. Still, this is an excellent place to get your breakfast or brunch on! Create your own omelet - definitely my favorite way yo go. But my friend ordered the John Wayne omelet, which came topped with chili, and it looked ahhhhmayyyziiiinnnggg. Omeletes come with choice of hash browns (choose them) or home fried potatoes, and blueberry muffin or toast. Gee.. seems like a no brainer, but for those still uncertain... choose the muffin. They are made fresh in house, and are quite tasty. Omelets are massive, made with four eggs, and very well made. Still, there is the Challenge. A twelve egg omelet with the works. $27, or, if you can finish the whole thing, free. Calling all my big eaters out there! Go there. You're welcome.

First visit, my buddy mentioned that he used to go to the one in the San Diego area. Checked out the menu and of course the main food item is eggs. I ordered the Belgium waffle with a side of bacon. The interesting menu item that they have is a challenge where you can order a 12 egg omelette and if you can eat it in one hour, it is free. The waitress showed us a video of a woman doing the challenge and finishing it in 2 minutes. Crazy.....

I have found what could be the most delicious breakfast creation that I have eaten all year, maybe 2, hell ever! The Border Benedict. As the description says "Two poached eggs and seasoned carne asada on top of two sweet corn cakes, smothered in our homemade poblano sauce." But what it doesn't convey is the perfection that is created with each bite. Slice your fork down the center of the egg and let that gooey yolk run amok over the corn cakes and carne. The savory yolk, combining with the sweet corn cake and tender slices of meat all come together with the splash of spice from the poblano sauce. Goddamn! Hash browns are the way to go with this meal as they will slurp up any runoff that would otherwise go to waste. I usually split my meals 50/50 with the wife, but she could see that I really didn't want to share this one. haha Yes, her Mom Omelette was large and full of healthy stuff, you know to offset what I was digging into. Fresh veggies stuffed to the brim inside the folded egg. But for some reason it doesn't come together too well. Coffee here is horrible. I can't say it tastes bad since it was so watered down there wasn't much to taste. Time to check that coffee machine. I'll assume the French Toast was tasty as well. The kid ate it up and she usually doesn't like French Toast.

Awesome little breakfast place!! The food was amazing!! Omelette was beyond epic!- they put the best chili on it! Biscuits are made from scratch and so very soft! Smiling, fun staff. I can honestly say if I lived here this would be my Sunday morning hangout place!

We tried this restaurant last Sunday Day and were very impressed. Their menu features eggs every way imaginable from plain two egg omelet to eggs any way you like them with a New York steak. We tried the eggs benedict, which they have two ways - one with Canadian bacon and one with turkey. We also had the stuffed French toast which was topped with bananas besides the interesting insides. I'll be coming back again soon to try some of their other interesting creations!

This semi-local SoCal chain of breakfast/brunch/lunch restaurants thoroughly rocks. Great food. Fantastic service. BTW, something I couldn't tell but care about from the online menu: yes, you can get Black Beans. The menu which is online their website doesn't include their 2014 new menu items, with 2-4 new items alone in their South of the Border section. Border Benedict = Carne Asada. Verde sauce. Corn muffiny muffins. Quite fantastic. The dish could have arrived HOT not tepid warm, but was still tastey good. I opted for their classic breakfast sandwich while my life partner selected the Mexican/ Border Eggs Benedict option. They gave me no difficulty for changing the break to WW, the ham to bacon, and the cheese to Cheddar. Formidable! In 2014/5 look for MORE Eggs Benedict variations. While I ADORE a quality from scratch hollandaise sauce, I always inquire and ask for a sample taste to vet that it's not from a powdered mix. Haven't tried THAT yet. Just be sure to ask. The Eggs: Ok, whatever oil/margerine they cook it in, I could taste it. This was fine and covered up by my bacon and cheddar, however, I wouldn't order an eggs' featuring dish that doesn't come with a cover up. Endless cup of coffee is $2.59. I can only drink 2 small mugs, so it's $1.50 a cup. Not even Starbucks costs that much. However, they have real dairy half n half unlike my beloved NORMS. Plus they also offer Coffee Mate French Vanilla. Our server's name is Christina. She was a friendly gem. Before pouring the coffee into his cup, she asked my BF if he wanted a top off or if it was already at the perfect blend of coffee and fixin's. It was. The chain is clearly pushing their BEER now. All the wall hangings and table tents about this gave us a giggle. If you order between 6 and 8 AM, their early morning specials give you about a buck's savings. Cool, n'est pas? Has a small SENIORS MENU, also. Not that we used it. Just, nice to know. Plenty of free parking in their own parking lot area. We will DEFINITELY return. There were SO many options we wanted to try out. My next order w/b the SOTB Breakfast Quesidilla! Lastly, if you are a police offer, firefighter, paramedic or active duty military, coffee is free to you ALL DAY LONG. I appreciated that, don't you? Then again my late husband was a combat vet.

It was a busy Sunday but we were quickly seated by Suzy with a pleasant smile. Justin was our waiter and he kept checking back to see if we needed anything. Your coffee cup is never empty here because the bus boys keep coming back to refill your cup. Even though the place was full the manager checked by to make sure we were pleased. If you want good food, smiling people to serve you and a restaurant where the entire crew use teamwork to make sure no one leaves unsatisfied. Submitted by the 84 year old guy named Pat

My wife and I recently decided to start the tradition of going out to breakfast each Sunday morning. We already have a handful of established places to us that we LOVE to go to but in my search I am constantly looking for more variety and options. This week took us to The Broken Yolk in Orange, which was a last minute addition by me to the list of places. I have had this place bookmarked for over a year now and was finally able to check it off my list once and for all and overall I enjoyed the visit. Broken Yolk is a decently sized café with plenty of seating throughout and a very color interior (love the yolk like lamps above the booths). I was very pleasantly surprised to see just how diverse a breakfast menu they offered which is good, as there truly is something for everyone. They offer a variety of omelets, pancakes, eggs benedicts as well as variety of Mexican dishes such as Chilaquiles and Machaca and eggs (although both have been marginally Americanized). As is the norm, we started our meal by ordering a couple of iced teas while we gave the menu a once over. The teas were massive (no refill required on these bad boys) and came out quickly and we were ready to order. The wife went with the Golden State Benedict which consisted of a toasted English muffin, sliced grilled tomato, avocado, Applewood bacon and poached eggs with hollandaise sauce and siracha (no siracha for her) and came accompanied with some fresh fruit. She though the dish was good but not great overall compared to other benedict dishes she has eaten elsewhere. I decided to go with the stuff French toast which was topped with banana, whipped cream and caramel sauce and had a lower layer of bananas, custard and caramel sauce. This was a sweet and delicious dish and I would definitely order this again. The stuffed French toast was filling by itself but I would have like to see it accompanied by some eggs, bacon or toast, something other than just the French toast itself. Eggs and bacon were additional add-ons for another $2 but I opted to skip this to keep the cost down a bit as most items here range a bit higher in price than what we normally like to pay for breakfast. The service was friendly and quick and did a nice job of clearing the tables and not making the guests wait for the check (which drives me crazy). I tended to like my food a bit more than my wife did and I would definitely love to come back again for breakfast and also to try the lunch. If you live close and are looking for another alternative then give this place a try.

First off, for all my millennials or technology addicts, there is free Wi-Fi. Upon arrival I was greeted by a very friendly warm smile (Big plus). Looked around, observed that it is a very good sized restaurant, and full of large spacious tables. Robert was our server, and my family and I both recognized how attentive and friendly he is; so much so that my mother wanted to speak to the manager to praise about our experience. The manager explained to us that this is a San Diego based restaurant and this location is the first, hopefully not last, restaurant in Orange County. Menu was great a full of new creative dishes. My father ordered the Huevos Rancheros, mother had Tiki French Toast, and I went with the Border Benedict. Everyone was fully satisfied with our decisions. I strongly recommend the Border Benedict. Eggs Benedict style but with a Mexican twist. Poblano sauce drizzled on 2 eggs, over easy, marinated chopped asada, all on top of two sweet corn cakes. Absolutely loved the flavors in this dish: smokey, sweet and spicy. Great first time experience and will most definitely be returning to try other items. 4 Stars for friendly experience, nice clean looking restaurant and good tasting food.

On a Monday we got here at 1009am. Waited 20 min to be seated. Waited 45min for our food, such a long wait when you have kids is not ok. The coffee was terrible, I couldn't even finish a cup. Wished I had instant coffee 'cause that would have been better. Watched other people who got here after us get their food before we did. Our food it looked great, but that was it. The food lacked flavor. I think that the 24hr place that we all went to after a long night of drinking tastes better. ( you all know the place) Not once did anyone check on us to make sure we were happy with our meal. My daughter found a hair in her ranch dressing. Had to wait a while for the check, out the door at 12:17pm, that is a ridiculous amount of time just to get a meal and it was only 2 adults and a child. The price was expensive. Not good bang for the buck. Will I return? No. With a coupon? No. There are just too many great choice in the awesome city of Orange, this is not one of them.

My first visit here was on Memorial Day but the experience wasn't as memorable I'd hoped. As expected, there was a sizeable line of hungry folks willing to wait 30 minutes to get their breakfast on. Of interest, after our being seated I noticed that there were at least 5 empty tables near us and only 1 of these required cleaning. These tables remained undisturbed for most of our meal. Might these tables have been better used to cut down on everyone's wait time? A good explanation may be that they weren't sufficiently staffed. This especially as we didn't see our waitress as often as we would have liked - a little more coffee would have been appreciated. When we did see her that forced smile didn't hide the fact that she wasn't happy to be here; it was a holiday, after all. I ordered Border Check and my gf ordered the Tiki Toast. The food portions were very generous and the food looked very good, however, I began kicking myself: "Why did I order the Mexican dish???" My food was so very not authentic (except for the fresh avocado) . The tortillas (corn, of course) tasted like they were nuked. The omelet had a ton of chorizo in it; overwhelmingly so. My dish wasn't bad, but I felt like I should have stuck to some of the more traditional breakfast fare. The Tiki Toast looked and tasted awesome. My gf was pleased. One out of two isn't all that bad, I guess.

I'm surprised I haven't written a review for one of my favorite breakfast joints! (This review is for breakfast only.) Before they officially opened, I kept passing by their signs..which never said exactly when they'd open. But now that they are ready for business, it's about time people come eat their good food! They have their own parking lot behind the restaurant. Outdoor seating is also available in the back patio. They have a huge variety of food..from omelets to Nutella crepes! I don't have a favorite because I like to share. Their portions are definitely shareable, and I love that! At this particular location, I ordered the sweet potato fries, which came out nice and crispy. Each entree pretty much comes with choice of fruit, potatoes (home fries), or hash browns. Omelets come with choice of toast, blueberry muffin, biscuit, tortilla, etc. My absolute favorite is the No Name Omelet. Service is great here. I can tell the managers and employees truly value their customers and wishes a great time for everyone. I love when breakfast joints have happy people and they greet you with smiles - you get a good start to your day! They do not do dinner here. They only serve breakfast and lunch; they close at 3 pm! The breakfast special is a real steal..just gotta wake up before 8 am!

Delicious food, fast service , and cute place. First time here and we loved it. I had the Western Benedict and Bf had Fiesta Burrito. They were both tasteful. Then for desert we had the Nutella crepes. Amazing! Yes we are a lot ;) Definitely coming back.

4 egg omelettes pretty much sets the tone. A great breakfast spot with a vast selection of choices. Pancakes are great here.

Finally got a chance to check this place out! Went with my kickboxing girls, 5 of us in total. We all went with the Benedicts and one got pancakes with chocolate chips. The food was very good! I personally got the eggs Benedict with has browns. The sauce and ham were very delicious! 5 stars for the plate itself. Unfortunately the service was not good at all. We had Sarah as our waitress. To begin she threw one of the menus on the table...maybe it slipped? We let that slide. I asked for a straw...she threw it on the table. At the end when it came to pay she took forever to bring the check and to pick it up even though she keep waking past us. Maybe she was having a bad day?? Def will be back for the delicious food!

On our way back from hiking at Peters Canyon we wanted a good breakfast and saw Broken Yolk Cafe on our way. We stopped by on on way back to check it out. It was a full house around 11am, but we only waited less than 10 minutes for a table for 4. Their service was prompt and extremely friendly. I got the open faced breakfast sandwich with egg whites and home fries. It was absolutely delicious. It was very simple but soooo good. The home fries tasted very fresh, my favorite were the crispy ones. My bf got "The Mom" omelet and he loved it, a generous portion. Our son got the french toast bacon and eggs kids meal and it was the perfect size for him. Mom got a whole grain pancake, egg whites and bacon, she enjoyed every bit. Can't wait to come back and try some of the south of the border items. ;)

Good place to eat breakfast at occasionaly. Main course dishes come well prepared I ordered the banana french toast and my mother ordered some crepes. We had coffee which was good and a biscuit on the side for me. I asked for a side of eggs and sausage for the both of us which did not come very well presented, kind of just threw some eggs and sausage on plates. Not a big deal but to me attention to all detail is key in a successful restaurant so making it look like they put some time into wouldn't be so bad. I was not impressed with the bill 55.00 for breakfast for 2 is a bit excessive. on the bright side the staff was friendly. i will consider coming back, but with those prices I don't plan on being a regular

We rarely post to yelp, but I definitely felt this one was warranted. We've always enjoyed Broken Yolk from our days in San Diego and were really excited that this location opened near our house. The owner is always really nice and often made visits to our table to say hi to our kids and see how the meal was going. Today we thought about going to breakfast but with a toddler and an infant, decided that takeout would be easier. I ordered the Machaca and my wife ordered the "No Name" omelet. The avocado used in the omelet was bad and had brown and black spots all over each piece. Called in and spoke with the Manager McKenna Ortega and offered to send her a picture of this avocado. She declined and said that the avocados turn brown in an omelet. I've cut open avocados before and have seen these same brown spots and it's definitely just a bad avocado. The icing on the cake - when I asked to just be given a credit for an omelet on our next visit... She offered to give me credit for just the avocado!! I kindly declined and sarcastically thanked her for her time. What happened to customer service?? What happened to trying to do what's right for customers to enjoy their meal? Imagine that, for the price of 1 omelet, an establishment can lose long time customers. Unbelievable. Very disappointed.

Good place for breakfast or lunch. Had the soup, salad, half sandwich combo. It was a decent amount of food for the price. The Tomato Basil soup was awesome. Their specialty seems to be breakfast but the burgers and several other lunch items looked great too. I will be back!

22/100 We were looking for some new place to try for breakfast. Remembered advertisement in "My Community Guide" so with coupon in hand we were on the way. Parking was easy in the lot behind restaurant. Came in around 9. There was no line and the place did not seem to be too busy. Got seated right away. It seems that this place has been remodeled not long away. It looks fresh with retro touches. Downside was their bathroom that seemed to have been missed in remodel. Soap dispenser didn't really work and faucets only run for a few seconds after you push the handle. :( Hey, but most important of course is food. It is a restaurant after all. We ordered Chicken Fried steak and Cuban sandwich. Tried to order asking about the deal in coupon book for $7.99 lunch combo were were informed that this is just a regular deal and you don't need a coupon. Made me feel a little stupid. Why do you put a coupon for something just available. Chicken Fried steak - came out huge with hash browns and eggs. Steak tasted yummy with crunchy outside. Gravy was OK lacked a little in flavor. Hashbrowns had a potential being really good (flavor was good) but they just were not crispy how we like them. Cuban (surprisingly sold just by itself not even a pickle - if you want fries or anything else you need to order it). It is big and was more than enough. I had to take half home for snack. It was good but not great. Topped it off with Coffee they had on special for $1. Our waitress Kate was super nice and attentive. She refilled our drinks as soon they we were running low and check if we needed anything else. She also gave us a coupon book that has specials for the rest of the year. After seeing pictures of Monte Cristo and stuffed french toast on yelp. I definitely want to come back and try something else.

First time trying out the new location. They definitely keep the same spirit and quality as the original!! Portions and taste are well worth the price and Kate our waitress really took the time to explain all the specials and give us some expert advise!! A job well done to the entire establishment from the back kitchen to our wonderful hostess! Thanks for the wonderful dining experience.

Was excited to try a new breakfast place, but this wasn't it! Food wasn't awful, but it wasn't amazing. My quiche felt tough- as if it had been remicrowaved one too many times. Omelette was just so so. Service was pretty slow but everyone was friendly. Not sure if we will be back for breakfast.... Maybe give it another try for lunch:

Yuk. Our group of eight gave it a grade of 'D' as in below average. Service was good. Food was cold and the Carne Asada resembled jerky. Won't be back.

I can't say I will never eat here again because it is near my work. The food was OK, just as described but who ever heard of an omelet with no cheese? The service was not great, I had to wait quite awhile for a coffee refill and the coffee is not that good. But the weirdest thing was that while I was reading away this strange man came to my table. He was not wearing a name badge and he was sloppily dressed. He started asking me questions. I looked up but figured he was just some strange man so I went back to reading. He persisted and finally I figured out that he must work there. I asked him to leave me alone and he did. It was sure strange, though.

We ate here around 11:00 on 9/5. It was busy, but we were seated as soon as was possible. Every table was full, and service was good for as busy as they were. Food came about 25-30 min after ordering. Our server kept our drinks full. The food was good. We had average brunch faire. Waffles and fried chicken, scrambles and pancakes. Sometimes I think people have the patients of a nat when it comes to a new restaurant. They are working out the kinks and the employees are learning to work as a team. We will defiantly go back.

I have to say that I like the Broken Yolk. I do wish Yelp had half stars as this place rates a 3.5 and not a true 4 star review. But I would rather rate it up than down. The food is good, great variety and the service has always been spectacular, thus the nudge up. The only problem I have with the food is the cost and the portion size. On the weekend, I am down with having a breakfast that can substitute for two meals at once and the Yolk portions can fulfill that niche easily. However, during the week and work, the last thing I need is a food coma before a full day of meetings and interactions. Seeing that a lot of their dishes are also12+ dollars per plate, it is hard to justify a famliy of 4 coming out for breakfast with coffee and the bill being $60-$65 without the tip. During the week they do have a great weekday early bird special between 6am and 8am that is much more reasonable, but you do have to be there before 8. And it is not on the weekends. My suggestion would be to hold those specials over a little longer on the weekdays (like every other place does until 10:30am) and then also offer them on the weekends until 10am. I can go to Johnny Rebs, The Original Pancake House or Flappy Jacks and pay a full 1/3 less for a breakfast that is just as good and big, or order smaller portions at an even bigger savings. 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage and toast or pancakes for $6, like everyone else has, would make me more of a repeat customer. Again, I like the Broken Yolk but they could change just a few things to make them a 5 star destination.

Heard all the great reviews for the location in S.D. so decided to give it a try. When we got there they said we wouldn't have to wait for a table if we sat on the patio. Big mistake. 10 minutes went by before anyone acknowledged our existence. Waiter took drink orders & was another 10 minutes at least before he came back with them & took our order. It was over 45 minutes from arrival until we got our food. If the food was insanely good I would put up with it. But the food was average at best. Probably wont come back.

  • Michelle M.

I had hoped for more even after reading the reviews here. I had the breakfast quesadilla which was a little dry tasting, however the flavor combo was a good idea, just didn't wow me. Hubby had the French toast which was average. The bacon left a lot to be desired. There are a lot of omelettes and egg dishes to choose from, and perhaps that is where their specialty lies. Friendly service and ok overall but we won't be in a rush to come back :(

If I could give them a '0' I would. Been looking forward to going here as we are big fans of the Broken Yolk in Carlsbad, good service and food. We waited at least 10 mins to get drinks and then another 10 mins to place our order. After another 20 minutes (at least) out comes the food. My son's blueberry pancakes were raw in the middle when we looked under them, my toast was burned and my breakfast lukewarm. My son went to look for the manager because we were just going to leave money for the drinks and go elsewhere. He comes over promises to have our food back and 'right' in 5 mins. Ok...5 minutes later, here it comes. My son picks up a pancake, RAW in the middle. At this point, we had been there going on 40 minutes and he said "That's all right mom. I'll eat around the raw parts". My hash browns had been thrown back on the griddle and obviously salted again--they were inedible. We get the bill--he didn't even have the courtesy to comp any of the bill even though the food and service were pretty awful and substandard. $27.00 later for mostly inedible food, we won't go back to this one. We'll make the drive to Carlsbad where both the food and service are superior. If you're in the Orange area, take your money to FLAPPY JACK'S--definitely a much better eating establishment!!

Service was not as expected (poor service)...waited for just water alone for about 10 to 15 minutes and before we were even greeted by our waitress too. The bathroom had not Been cleaned in the men's restroom. The sink counter was overfilled with water and my husband had to soak the water up with paper towels for them! Food was okay..going back to service, our waitress got our orders wrong and then became m.i.a. For a while...on top of that, our food didn't come complete..some plates were missing toast, others fruit...wtf? Our waitress did try to make service a little bit better by being nice with no attitude like some others would give, but we still had to ask other waitresses for things!! How annoying...not going back and not recommending to others..what a disappointment since they have so many chains. Thought it would be better, but NOT! Train your servers betters broken yolk cafe! Or else you.ll start losing your customers left and right.

I'm giving this place a lot of slack because they just opened and may working out some kinks and because, maybe it's me! I seem to have been way more disappointed than my male meal mates! First time with my son on lunch hour. Restaurant was mostly empty with wait staff standing around trying to look busy. Food took over one half hour after ordering and my side of sausage was "jerky" like, really inedible. My sons breakfast was just okay, no frills no attempt to make it look appetizing. Second time with husband late lunchtime restaurant was moderately busy but still had lots of wait staff available, took a long time to get an order placed and then meal took longer than expected to be delivered. My turkey and avocado sandwich came with a the avocado half just smashed on top, not sliced as pictured, looked like my son had made it. Poor rushed service. You know what I mean, the "Everything ok? Ok" and off they go without waiting for the answer, never to be seen again. Like they're being paid by the # of tables they touch. Food just barely average and service needs improvement.

I had the breakfast burger (it has two eggs on it) and it was good, but the beef was just ok. Seemed a little dry for medium well, but not bad. The burger was not pickupable... It had to be eaten with a fork and knife which was a little bit disappointing. I suppose I'll ask for the eggs over hard next time because they were really runny for a burger. I was a little disappointed in the fruit as well; the honeydew and watermelon were super soft like it was old. And the cantaloupe wasn't ripe. I've had the Country Benedict as well and it was great, but the fruit was still lacking. Overall, this place has great potential but needs a little polishing.

It was fine, I guess. The 15 minute wait was as estimated, the service was efficient, food was ok--the breakfast burrito was a bit bland, but the pico de gallo was very good. Beans and rice with it were unnecessary and also a bit bland. Their portions were just huge. I don't have any real complaints, but I don't think we'll return.

Nice place for breakfast or lunch. The portions are very generous. I ordered the chicken and waffles and a pomegranate mimosa both of which were delicious. The boys in my group are very eager to try the iron man challenge. That is another reason we liked the place, the fact that they have a food challenge.

Have come here a few times and always have good experiences. Told the wait was about 10-15 minutes and, sure enough, that was about right. Customer service here is always good. Wait staff always comes by to fill my coffee. Family is happy so can't really complain. Does get a little noisy because of the crowds, but I don't really mind.

Food was excellent and the portions are huge but great. It's definitely not a quantity over quality place. Ingredients were fresh and everything had a great flavor. We ordered the no name (but it should have a name because it's great) and the stroganoff. My friend said the stroganoff was dinner for breakfast and demolished it. I would recommend this place.

Waited 45 minutes after we were told the wait was 30. Then waited about another 45 minutes for our food. It was just the two of us too...I mean how hard can it be to seat just TWO people? On top of that we got absolutely no reassurance that our food was even remotely ready. Terrible service. Terrible wait. Terrible place. Oh and they got my order wrong. Don't come here.

People started out way too harsh on the broken yolk considering it's new. Since they've gotten their stuff together, they're great! I have a 91 year old grandma in a wheelchair and they made it very easy to seat us and were extremely kind in doing so. I ordered the bidder Benedict with my eggs over medium instead, which comes with corn cakes, carne asada, and green sauce on top and potatoes on the side. SOOOO delicious!

1st time here since it changed over from Carrows. The decor is cute, everything is egg related. From translucent yellow light fixtures resembling sunny-side up yolks to the custom wood paneling with oval "egg" carvings. But be warned, the noise level is VERY loud during their busy time. We were here on a Sunday at 1:30. From the echo of a crying baby to the bus boys simply clearing tables...you may leave with a headache! I was pleased to find that the menu had a large selection of both breakfast and lunch items. I was in the mood for Mexican and asked my server what was best. She suggested the Huevos Rancheros because they make their own sauce. When my Huevos arrived, they appeared a mediocre "Gringo" mess with a side of beans. BUT, I was pleasantly surprised at their FLAVOR!!! I would definitely order them again! My son (9 years old) was unimpressed with his child's menu (very generic) French Toast and bacon, though he did eat it all. My biggest complaint: SERVICE. My table was sticky with leftover syrup and the food severs seemed to argue as to who would have to take our order. Even the manager/owner type person frequently handled "situations" with servers in aisle-ways where I could easily overhear the conversations. I was a bit offended that I was given an additional "senior menu". AFTER my order was taken and I commented about it, I was informed that "anyone could order off that menu"...it just had smaller portions. Probably good to know BEFORE I ordered. The food runner brought the French Toast without any butter. I had to stop someone else to get some, then an additional person for extra napkins. After all that, the server came to ask how the food tasted before we had yet to take one bite...(look at the plates before you ask) then brought me the check after the first 2 bites. I don't like eating or reviewing places during busy time slots. Because my food was good, I would definitely give it another shot!

  • Marysabel Q.

They brought my order wrong I sent it back takes forever to get correct order! Then once I received my food it had no flavor! The service was not good they took forever to get our order. We could hear the cook complaining about orders one of then being from our table. We also kept hearing servers complaining about different things . We told the manager that our experience was not a good one and she just made it seem like we were overreacting and dismissed us. Not worth it definitely not coming back. The only reason they get two stars was for the good French toast.

I called a week prior to Mother's Day to make a reservation. The lady was friendly an took my reservation along with a phone number. I called today to confirm and see if I could possibly change the time to later. I was then transferred to the manager and he explained "some people were not paying attention and took reservations anyways". He then continued and said "we'll what time so you want?" I was utterly confused since I thought they weren't taking reservations and I explained that. He then continued to tell me I can call an hour prior and see how busy they are. Um. No thank you. It's for Mother's Day and I'm not waiting until the day of to know where we are going. I am very frustrated since they weren't even going to call and inform me of this, so what would have happened if I had my family all show up? It's extremely frustrating and completely unprofessional that the staff is not under the same understanding nor did they make sure prior to making the reservation. It makes me mad when I planned ahead and now a few days before Mother's Day, I have to find a new place.

This was my first time here and honestly, it didn't live up to the hype for me. Our waitress Kristin was awesome, but the food was.... not the best. My Eggs Florentine was cold and bland. I am sure the other menu items are better? If I go back, I will be sure to try something else.

Two words: SOLID & CONSISTENCY! People are hating on this restaurant so bad and I don't understand why! Today was my 2nd time coming here and it was just as good as the first time! The first time I came here was on Labor Day weekend which means all restaurants are going to be a hot mess of a CF, we were seated in less than 20 minutes and had an excellent waitress. She was spot on with everything. This menu has a good selection of food from breakfast to lunch and a la carte items. BYC is so much cheaper than Pancake House down the street! I don't care what anyone says or thinks, I will never step foot in that rip off of a place! Everything is a la carte! 2 people can easily spend 40-45 dollars there! Me and my mom both had drinks and ate for under $22.00. I ordered 3 side items for under $10.00 , my mom's entrée came with a choice of meat and bread which Pancake House doesn't offer. Service has been consistent both times and the manager is very friendly he came around to every table to check on everyone. I will definitely keep coming back here. For this restaurant being open for about a month and some change it's doing pretty darn good. They have more than enough servers and help so service is not spotty or an issue. Both times we ate here we got our food in less than 15 minutes! I have no issues with this place and glad to see a change of pace on this street. Just because a new restaurant has opened it doesn't give you the chance to rip them apart, constructive criticism and feedback is one thing but bashing is another. I really hope they do good at this location and stay put for awhile! ^_^

I went to Broken Yolk with my friend and we wanted to get some delicious breakfast. We came during a Friday morning and there wasn't a wait or long line like a lot of other reviewers have mentioned in their reviews. So the atmosphere has a retro-ish vibe to it. There's a lot of egg references in the design of the place. Interesting, but not fabulous. Once we sat down, our waitress brought over 2 waters immediately. That was nice considering I always need a glass of water with my meals. Anywhoo... onto the review! Border Benedict: (2/5) When this first arrived, I was really excited by it because it had sweet corn cake topped off with a poached egg and smothered by some verde chili sauce.. sounds appetizing huh. My friend punctured it and my egg's yolk wasn't oozing! -________- It's like.. "Where's the beef?" but now it's Where's the ooze? I like my egg yolks runny, it makes everything oh so.. *drooooooooool!*. So that was fault number one with this dish. Then when you ate all the components together.. the sweet corn cake was overwhelmingly sweet. And the chili sauce didn't have a spicy kick that I would've thought it should have. Instead it was bland and lacked tons of flavor. The steak bites were ok and was the only thing that made me eat the dish, because the rest was not satisfying. Sweet Potato Pancake: (1/5) At first bite... tasted sweet due to the whipped cream and when I actually finished my bite of the pancake, it transitioned to a sour aftertaste. Not entirely gross, but I would rather go to Original Pancake House in Anaheim (Lincoln Ave) because this place has far better choices when it comes to pancakes. Here.. this weird sour aftertaste was so gross, it was unappetizing and I think would be my sole reason why I wouldn't come back. Chilaquiles: (2/5) My friend ordered this and it was just a bunch of fried tortillas smothered with sauce. It lacked flavor and they placed chunks of the fried tortillas on the place where it wasn't appetizing at all. I really didn't feel like this should've been considered a favorite of Broken Yolk Cafe as was noted on the menu. Cafe Late: I really can't give a rating on this because I'm not a big coffee drinker. It was super sweet and was topped off with whipped cream and caramel sauce. It tasted sweet and delicious but I'm not a big coffee drinker, so I'm not going to rate this haha. But it tasted fine to me :) The only thing I actually really liked. I had their fresh fruit too as a side instead of their homefries or hashbrowns. The fruit... was good. I really enjoyed the cantaloupe haha. Anyways, this is one displeased customer. I only wanted to try something new and my friend and I made a U-turn from Original Pancake House (so we skipped out on this place!) and high-tailed it to this location. BIG MISTAKE! Their food was mediocre and definitely wouldn't come back for the food ever again.

Things are greatly improved. We eat there at least three mornings a week. Best strawberry waffles around. Service definitely turned around!

Outstanding!!! Is the only word that comes to mind to describe literally every breakfast item. From simple 3 egg omelet varieties to stuffed French Toast or Biscuits & Gravy there's not 1 item that is not completely satisfying. To top it off, their service is just as great if not better than the quality of good. Friendly, courteous, and always at attentive to your table and it's always nice at an establishment with the managers come by and greet you at the table. HIGHLY RECOMENDED

I get that weekends can get busy. We were told there was a 20 minute wait. Everyone who was there before us was seated. People who arrived after us were seated. A party of 4 who arrived 15 minutes after us was seated within 5 minutes. When I checked with the hostess, 6 parties below us had been seated. I understand maximizing table space, but when my wife, one year old daughter and I have to wait cause they want to put us at a 2 person table rather than a booth, somethings wrong. If it wasnt for our great server, this would have been 1 star.

I had it twice in San Diego (wasn't impressed)... I thought hey, it's been a couple of years and now it's down the street so now the hubby wanted to try it and he was displeased. He had the Tony G's special and I had a chicken sandwhich. A few weeks later the baby brother want some breakfast and after a night of not sleeping with the baby... I ain't making nobody breakfast. So I took him here and he had Huevos a la Mexico and some appetizer sampler and I had the Belgian Waffle, he wasn't impressed... After each time we went has been about an hr wait.. I am the fool to come back a third time! I gotta give it up tho, customer service is on point but not enough to have me coming back =(

First time here, not the last!!! The food and service is outstanding. Our server, McKenna, is great!! We are sharing our experience with friends and family. The manager, Eusebio ( I think) is very friendly and seems to love his job.

Not being a fan of the San Diego location my expectations were not high but I was curious to try it out. Wow, what a disappointing experience and the poorest food and service I have experienced anywhere in a long time. Three of us dined and all three os us would never return. The portions were reasonable in size but the food was just horrendous. I was also shocked at the service, there seen to be plenty of staff on but no one ever checked on us after the order and delivery of the food. Two managers and they never stopped by or talked to guests, I didnt touch my Crispy Chicken salad because of the low quality and over cooked chick. The server finally showed up at the end of the meal, grabbed my salad and didnt even ask if I liked it or why I didnt eat it. Server returned dropped off the check and left. Worst service ever. $47.00 for three people to have breakfast is a lot in my opinion and definately not worth it!

Mike the manager is very sweet and attentive. Christina (new girl) is also a keeper, nice and extremely attentive. Although a few issues happened with our food, it was quickly taken care of. The Eggs Benedict was great as was the French Dip.

My roommate recommended this place to me, so my boyfriend and I thought we'd try it out. I was overwhelmed by how many things on the menu I wanted to try. Usually I have a hard time deciding what to get while out to eat because not much sounds appetizing, but here I had a hard time because TOO much sounded good. I ended up going with the Eggs Florentine and was not disappointed. Everything tasted great, the only drawback was that they gave me WAY too much spinach. Now, I love spinach, but there were mountains of it on my plate and a lot of it went uneaten. I also ordered a hot Messy Caramel Latte, which was brought to the table after I was well into my meal, whereas I would have preferred to sip on it while waiting for my breakfast to arrive at the table. My boyfriend ordered the Border Check Omelette and thought it was just mediocre. What made his meal just so-so for him was the chorizo, which he thought wasn't of the best quality or taste. After being seated at a table by the window and ordering our food, one of the many managers asked us if we would mind moving so a family with kids could have our table. It didn't matter to us, so we moved over to a booth where they wanted us. Another manager came up to us and thanked us, saying that we wouldn't believe how many people would get mad if they were asked to move. He then gave us complimentary blueberry muffins--which were so warm and delicious--and a fruit bowl. I had been debating ordering a fruit bowl on the side earlier, so that was great. I didn't mind that they had asked us to move, what had bothered me a little was how much the many managers hovered over all the guests. I understand that this place is new and they probably just want everything to go perfectly, but half the time they were just standing over tables looking worried or running around the place. I did notice a manager helping a guy bus a table, though, which made me think higher of the managers. It was nice to see that they weren't just telling people what to do and were actually helping them complete things. I would recommend this place. They have so many options on their menu and I'd definitely go back again, but maybe once they've been around for a while.

Wow, just WOW. How does this place get four stars. I am being rather generous to give it two. The food is mediocre, it is so loud inside that it is difficult to carry on a conversation, and it is way overpriced. We came for Sunday breakfast. We had tried to come a couple weeks prior, but when we saw the line out the door, we decided to go elsewhere. This time we only had to wait for a table for about three minutes. They have an extensive diner type menu. All the breakfast items are there. You can also get burgers, sandwiches, and entree type meals. Since this is the first time I had been to Broken Yolk, I had to order corned beef hash and eggs - my breakfast meal test. My wife ordered the ham quiche, and we got a French toast with bacon for our son. Service was the high point of our visit. Our server, Ashley, was very good. She was prompt with refills and made sure we had our food. The service was also quick. While this is a good thing when you have kids, I kind of suspect the speed was part of the problem with the food. When doing this kind of volume at this speed, you have to save time somewhere. I suspect that some of the food was pre-made and set in warming trays. Of course, my wife's quiche was pre-made, but she said it was really dry. My son's French toast was also very dry. The hash was from a can, which is okay with me, and my eggs were the way I ordered them, but my meal was nothing special. The total bill for three of us was about $36 not including tip. I can get better food for the same price or less at several local places. I doubt I will be back.

It was my first time going and I thought it was too much of a wait to get served, also the waitres was not very nice , after we ordered our order got there like in 30 minutes , I order the banana chocolate crapes and it had no flavor and the bananas were solid rocks , after we received our food the waitres never showed up until we had been finished with our meal, and the service was slow and bad quality food , I was disappointed , over all I had a really bad expirience. I will never return

We needed a good breakfast spot in our neighborhood. Guess it is not the Broken Yolk. Had breakfast there on Saturday. It was the second time we had been there. I was so disappointed! The hash browns tasted like old grease. The omelet was thick and rubbery. The blueberry muffin was the best think about the meal. We sat by the window and there were a congregation of flies trapped on the glass. Every time the door to the kitchen opened ,my eye was drawn to all the pieces of food on the floor. Yuck! We won't be back.

I live right down the street off of prospect and chapman and can I say this place is very convenient! I'm originally from San Diego so I know the Yolk well. Pretty solid and LARGE menu! From hotcakes to burgers they got you covered. They are the newest location and are still working out the kinks, but by far a very pleasurable experience. Pros - Big menu, fresh food, quick service and beautiful/clean restaurant. Cons - Very new!!! Could add another TV in the main dining room! What I Got!!!! - The belgian waffle with a side bacon and a tall glass of the fresh squeezed orange juice...delicious!

Started coming for the breakfast and now for the lunch specials. Always seated quickly, and order was taken quickly. I am usually crunched for time at lunch. I love their tropical tea and their coffee is good.

Service was spot on. Our coffee never was more than half empty. Food came out quickly and was all correct. We needed to move to a larger table and the restaurant was incredibly busy, (Father's Day) and they accommodated us. Menu has great options and portions are very large. I couldn't even finish my french toast and I'm a big eater! Highly recommend trying this spot out.

Was excited when this place opened. For some reason had fond memories of the one in San Diego. But was really unimpressed. The eggs tasted plasticky. Several of the cups had lip stick on them. I do think the service was good, but if the food isn't good there's really no reason to go.

Well. It's been 4 months since I've been here and roughly 4 months since the owner contacted me saying that they were making adjustments and to try back on him. Not looking for a free meal here just looking for good food. My kids were out if school so I thought I'd give it another go. Let's just say I should have gone with my first idea to go to Flappy Jacks. It was a Monday morning roughly 9:30. It wasn't busy at all. Got seated, mind you I have two kids under the age of 5. If you're picking out crayons to give them, why on God's green earth would you give them both gray crayons? The boy wanted chocolate chip pancakes and the girl wanted French toast. I got their Canadian bacon and eggs with a side of pancakes. The waitress asked "do you want home fries or hash browns?" I asked "which do you prefer" then she recanted saying "oops all out of home fries actually" ummm. Ok. Then the meal came. The boy got two pancakes. One shaped like Mickey Mouse and another smaller one on top with like 10 chocolate chips. Yes. I was charged an up charge for those 10 chocolate chips. The girl's French toast was hard and cold. My food was ok, how do you mess up scrambled eggs and Canadian bacon? You can't really so that's why I ordered it. Pancake was a little wet towards the middle though. After our plates were empty and our waitress walked by us about 10 times we finally got our plates cleared and got the check. I already had my credit card in hand so I just gave it right back. 15 minutes later, I got my credit card back. Still tipped (used to be a waitress in college so I kinda feel obligated to) and left. I still stand by my original review. And I will NEVER make this mistake again. Sorry Mike D. Whatever changes (if any) you've made was poorly executed.

Since hearing that this place was opening, I have been really excited. My fiancé and I decided to try it this morning, and the experience was... Okay. Kind of. The straw that broke the camel's back? There was a nasty hair in my butter. Luckily it was served separate from the meal and I was able to just use some of the butter from my fiancé's pancakes. Our waitress was really apologetic and sweet about it. I wasn't expecting a free meal. It was just butter, but come on. A hair in the middle of the scoop of butter? Gross. Mains: We both got pancakes, and his were okay except that they were extremely dense, as though the cook pressed down on them while they were cooking. Not nearly as fluffy as they should be. I got the multigrain pancakes and they tasted really sour. Kind of like sour cream pancakes. I don't know. Sides: my man got a side of scrambled eggs and they were VERY runny. I like eggs a bit runny, and even I couldn't eat them. Not so good. I got an order of hash browns and they were pretty darn good. They might have needed a bit of salt, but I like putting a bit of ketchup on them anyway. Service: our waitress was very sweet and really attentive, her name was Ashley. Cleanliness: the table was reasonably clean but the condiments on the table were really gross. Crusty hot sauce, syrup dispenser with old syrup all over the front of it. Ew. Overall: if not for the hair in my food, I'd probably give this place 3 stars. I don't think we will be back just based on the fact that there are more worthy breakfast places with better food, better combos, and at better prices.

Always happy to have a new breakfast place nearby since we don't have many choices in the Anaheim Hills/ Orange/ Yorba Linda area! BYC is a chain from San Diego. I couldn't remember much about it other than I had been there once while in San Diego. Decided to try it out this morning for breakfast. The place is still BUSY on the weekends. We got there just barely early enough to avoid most of the crowds. We only waited about 10 minutes for a table but by the time we left there was probably at least 50 people waiting! The place is good but NOT worth waiting any longer than 10 minutes! Very cool 70s decor! Great colors, lighting and wall treatments. They serve big portions!! Omelets are all 4 eggs and huge! They will let you split the omelets for no charge. They open early and have great breakfast specials from 6am-8am M-F. I had the "Pay You on Tuesday" omelet and it was very good. I will go back to try the Stuffed French Toast next time! Service was good. Everyone was very friendly. Even the 2 hostesses up front both said 'goodbye and thank you' even while dealing with a line of people coming in the door! The downside is the prices are too high......You will pay more here than at most of the equivalent type breakfast places in the area. But hey........... it's a new place to go.

Words cannot express how delicious their Gluten Free Pancakes are! THE BEST I've ever had! I had to call the waitress back to the table and ask her if she was sure that they were gluten free...they were that good!!! Took my non-gluten free family members here too and everyone loved everything they got. They have a huge menu so there is something for everyone!

So this time I ordered the french toast...sooo good! Menu says it comes with strawberry sauce but i didn't get any on my plate (which was fine with me). I ate the entire plate! My boyfriend ordered the machaca. Good as well, but since haven eaten this item in Mexico, our standards are a little higher. But he scarfed the entire thing. I tried some as well (and i love Mexican food) and it was pretty good. Coffee is always great (flavored creamers available: irish cream and french vanilla)

One of my favorite breakfast/brunch places near home!! Delish food that doesn't seem to weigh you down afterwards. Not sure why there are so many mixed reviews here... but then I've only been to this location once. Would definitely come back though!

Heard so much great reviews, so needless to say I had much expectations for this place. I ordered the chicken waffle, while it was pretty good I felt it needed just another strip of chicken to at least suffice the entire waffle. Our server didn't do much but take our orders down, charged me $2.59 for coffee that was half full and never came back to check if I needed a refill. She slapped the check on our table without a single word. I'll give it another try but I hope I get better service next time.

My husband and I were in the mood for breakfast yesterday so decided to give this new restaurant a try. Upon entering the restaurant there was no hostess to greet us and we had to just stand there awkwardly until we could catch somebody's attention.....an indication of things to come. A red haired woman finally came to seat us and was quick to grab our drink order, that was the last we would see of her. TWENTY minutes passed and she never returned for our order. If the restaurant had been slammed I might have been able to overlook it but the place was a ghost town at this point. Two stars, instead of one, for the very nice server who comped our drinks when we explained we couldn't wait any longer. What a waste of time.

Came here Friday morning with a friend at around 10-11. It wasn't Extremely crowded and we were seated almost immediately. Our server was nice and the food was good. We shared a waffle with banana and strawberry, scrambled eggs and bacon. We asked for cream but it was forgotten and we just went without. Service was pretty good. A bit slow considering it wasn't very busy. But it was ok. I'd come back. The plates around me looked good.

Been here on several occasions for breakfast, and the food/service has been pretty consistent. The lines get a bit busy in the mornings, especially on weekends, but the most I've ever waited is about 20 minutes. My servers have always been helpful and attentive, even during peak hours. The Border Benedict and the stuffed French Toast are probably my favorite dishes that I've had so far. Omelets, pancakes, and waffles are good as well, but nothing extraordinary. The portions are on the larger side, but it is a bit more expensive than your typical breakfast diner. All in all its a nice, solid spot for a casual breakfast/brunch with friends or family.

Pretty good breakfast . French toast tasted really good and they have pretty good portions . Staff was friendly but not necessarily attentive sense I waited so long to get my coffee refilled. Otherwise it would have 4 stars. The fruit that came with my meal was wonderful. Overall it is a nice place to go if you need a good American breakfast. I have had better but it is not bad. A good bang for your buck.

Extremely busy Sunday .... Received cold chicken rand waffles and my guest received burnt pancakes. Tough to catch my waitress and thought I could grab another but 3 waitresses were busy counting tips at the hostess station. Another waitress brought new pancakes for us. 2 stars for friendliness and nice atmosphere.

Was expecting a lot more based on these Yelp reviews and I was sadly disappointed. The place was packed for Labor Day weekend (which was expected) but once we were seated, it took another 30+ minutes to get food. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros with a side of hash browns and when it finally came out, I knew that I wouldn't be dining here again. Eggs were bland. Hash browns, blah. Guac was a solid brown color. Beans were again, bland and blah. Ended up paying over $30 for my boyfriend & I, but I couldn't stop thinking we should have just gone somewhere else. I absolutely LOVE breakfast so giving this place 2 stars makes me sad, however they definitely deserved it. Season your food please!

This place is down the street from my house so it kind of become my breakfast go-to place, especially if I have time to go during the week. Their cooks are not entirely consistant but the wait staff is generally nice and attentive. The first thing that I tried here was the breakfast quessadilla. It was pretty good but chorizo for me gets overwhelming and I ended up taking half of it home and giving it to one of the boys that I live with. Next I tried the Over the Border Benedict. The first time that I had this it was fantastic. The carne asada was tender and not fatty and the sweet corn cakes were pillows crispy but soft love, the eggs were perfectly poached, and the poblano sauce was delicious. However, the second time I got it the meat was over cooked and fatty and the eggs seemed a little more runny than they should have been which is where my "consistant" qualm began. Since I moved onto getting the soup, salad, and sandwich combo for breakfast or lunch. I always get the berry salad and the chicken veggie soup which both are the best things, in my opinion, that they offer there. I've switched up the sandwiches up; the turkey is mediocre, the veggie sandwich is good, but my go to has been the BLT which has been consistantly good. My biggest issue with the place is that it seems to be a bit more pricey for the same things that you can get elsewhere but its close and their soup is delicious.

Last week I got a huge amazing delicious blueberry muffin. This week I was super disappointed when I found this itty bitty spongey muffin this time. So gross I can do better and I can't bake. My hash & eggs were over cooked this time & toast was under toasted. Fruit was dried out and old too. However my sister got fried steak & eggs with home fries and loved it. I'll give it another chance for sure bc it's so convenient & been good in the past in San Diego.

My family ate here for Mother's Day. I was a little skeptical about eating here since the wait was not too long. Once seated I was surprised by the variety on the menu. There were many dishes I wanted to try..but decided to order the Broken Yolk Iron Man Challenge! It a dozen-egg omelet filled with mushrooms, onions and American cheese smothered with our own house-made chili and more cheese. Served on a 15-inch pizza pan with a generous pile of home fries and two biscuits (its essentially a huge version of the the John Wayne omelet). If someone finishes the plate in 1 hr the food is free and your name goes in the hall of fame. Unfortunately, I did not attempt the challenge but shared the omelet with a few others. The omelet, chili, and biscuit were all pretty good. Nothing spectacular but definitely something I would eat again. I will return to try some of their "south of the boarder" breakfast entrees.

The best thing about Broken Yolk is the wait-staff--very friendly. That concludes the good stuff. Here comes the unsatisfactory part: Out coffee had absolutely no flavor--it tasted like hot brown water. When I told our waitress, she said someone had put decaf in the wrong pot, She brought me another cup and told me to taste it. It was so hot I burned my tongue. After it cooled a bit I tried it again. Still no flavor. The manager, a friendly fellow, came over and told us they were making a new pot of coffee. I asked if I could have some when it was ready. That coffee never arrived. Then there was the food. My friend had ordered eggs, hash browns and toast. The toast (which he didn't eat) and the hash-browns (which he tried to eat) were both burned black. I had ordered eggs Benedict and fruit. The Hollandaise sauce on the eggs looked and tasted like no other Hollandaise I've ever seen. I asked for a few lemon wedges to squeeze over it to improve the taste. It only helped a little. The fruit was OK but it was served in a little tiny bowl. Every time I picked up one piece, another slid off on to the table. This restaurant replaced a Carrows which had been there quite a while and which was very popular in the area. We were hoping Broken Yolk would be a good successor to Carrows, But we were very disappointed. despite it's rather elevated prices, Broken Yolk does not measure up. We won't be back.

Came here for breakfast. They have a lot of items to choose from. Service was good and our food came out after a decent amount of time. We came because we received a coupon in the mail. This was our 1st time here. Have heard from several people that the food is good. It was really busy, as to be expected on a sunday around 11:30. When we walked up to the door the first thing we noticed wad the obnoxiously loud music playing. We waited about 15 minutes or so to be seated. When we sat down I noticed that the table was dirty and there was no silverware. Advised the hostess & a busser came & cleaned it right away. He then brought us waters as we perused the menu. It took at least 10 minutes for the server to come to our table. No one came during our wait to see if we wanted anything other than water to drink. I got a No Name Omelet and my bf got biscuits & gravy. I also asked for some of the poblano green sauce. My omelet was ok then when I topped it with the green sauce it was really good. I just wish it had cheese, jack cheese would have made it really yummy. I tried my bf's biscuits & gravy, the gravy was really salty and tasted like it was a bottled or packaged item, not scratch made in house. Also, not enough gravy for how big the biscuit was. The biscuit was good, nice and light & fluffy. Portions are pretty large, I had to take half my omelet home. It was nice that they had flavored creamer as well as half & half for my coffee too. I must say it was exceptionally loud inside the dining room but I'm glad that obnoxious music that they had playing outside wasn't playing inside! When we left the manager and 2 hostesses were standing at the hostess stand talking and not a one said a word to us as we walked out. Pretty surprising that they ignored customers.

Used to go to the original down in San Diego. Usually we don't eat a lot of breakfast but figured we'd go out today and do so. Surprisingly they weren't too busy at 10am on a Sunday morning. Of course shortly after we arrived it got pretty busy. Receptionist was nice and very accommodating with us and our baby. Our waitress was nice and friendly, there were booths, tables and outdoor tables to choose from and the people(customers) were all very friendly - I think that comes from the local Orange community. Food was good - not excellent but we ate almost everything on our plates. Would come back here again for breakfast.

0 stars if possible. I am quite familiar with the Broken Yolk chain as we frequented the one in Oceanside before our move to OC. We were excited to visit the new restaurant in Orange, understanding that it is a new restaurant and might not be as great as the one in Oceanside. We have even given this place 2 chances. Both we're terribly disappointing, and the last visit we even left without eating after waiting an hour and a half for food. We were sitting on the patio waiting for food for over an hour when my husband's food finally came. It was cold and looked overcooked. My food didn't come until we were getting up to leave. Even still, only HALF of my food came. The manager offered to comp our food, but after waiting on the patio for over an hour with a restless 2 year old we just wanted to get the hell out of there. We had a bad experience the first time we tried this place too, but at least all of the food came. The Broken Yolk's we've visited in the past were always swarming with employees. This one seems understaffed. I might give it another chance in a few years when I can finally shake that horrible experience. This restaurant just doesn't live up to the rest of the chain.

Loved the atmosphere, but the service was meh... the food was meh... biscuit was okay Arthurs is better, my son didn't like his sausage patties, they were two bite size patties. The breakfast burrito was good but I think a good salsa is what makes a good breakfast burrito, their home made salsa was basically diced tomatoes and onions. Not to mention they put cojita cheese on beans and it's NOT mentioned on the menu. And just the smell of the cojita cheese makes me ill. They did bring me a new plate but the waitress was kind of rude. I wouldn't had tipped her the bus boy was a better server and much nicer.

I ate here for the first time today and the food was exceptional! The chicken and waffles were great and so was the Border Benedict meal! The waitress was great and she told us about the rewards program! I will be back again!

My family and I had recently visited the Broken Yolk and were a little disappointed, HOWEVER...after communicating with the mngmt about our thoughts, they graciously assured us that they would be making changes and improvements. After returning for a visit today, I am HAPPY to report that they have kept their word! The food was delicious

Visited on a Wednesday morning, my first time there. My friend ordered breakfast, I had lunch, and we are definitely coming back again. The food was good - tasty, hot, fresh, and lots of it - but I was most impressed by the staff, a group of young, hard-working people who really seemed to care about the restaurant. They were friendly, and attentive, I never had to ask for a refill for my drinks, and they all pitched-in to help each other (I love that!).

bright outcome resolution to poor service and slow start. They were slammed in their defence, but food took way too long to get to the table. Awesome manager saved the day and made things right. Will come back!

I came here after church this Sunday morning for the first time. The wait wasn't too bad, only about 15 minutes. Concerning the food, I recommend sticking to what they are known for. The multigrain pancakes I ordered were not cooked all the way. Both the multigrain and buttermilk pancakes were good but nothing special. Also our waitress was nice but was a bit aggressive in rushing us to finish eating and pay. Next time I'll be ordering the chicken and waffles because of the numerous reviews!

This is my favorite breakfast place in OC, so glad they finally opened a OC location. The menu is huge and so hard to decide what to order. I can actually come here every weekend and try something new for a year. I had the California omelet and the best omelet I've had in years; bacon , cheese, home fries, salsa and sour cream. It came with two sides of which you can choose from many options. I had a huge fluffy biscuit and gravy with fresh fruit. The omelet plate can easily be shared. The prices are reasonable for what you get but can be a little pricy for breakfast. Excellent service, nice dinner atmosphere and good location. Can't wait to come back next weekend.

I only take the time to write awesome reviews or Horrible ones. Unfortunately this one is the latter. I Went to see what the hype was "voted San Diego's Best"? If that's San Diego's Best than stay in San Diego. They did a great job on the remodel. They have been opened for only a week so they are overly staffed and everyone was very accommodating . I sat at the bar so I got a good glimpse at the different entrees going out. I opened a good sized menu and quickly noted the rather high prices. Not crazy high but high enough to expect something special was going to be served to me. $3.29 for a soda? Come on guys. Anyways not knowing the menu I mainly looked at the "starred favorites" I wanted to try the stuffed French toast but at $9.99 with no sides I was far too hungry for that. I chose a "starred favorite" chicken fried steak, with hashbrowns , toast and an iced latte. The latte was too thick and horrid tasting. The chicken fried steak appeared to be nothing special. Something you'd see any small diner. I took one bite and felt completely let down. The crust was hard and the meat was thinner than a Castle Burger. It tasted like it was yesterday's leftover reheated in a microwave. 8 hours later I can still feel the lump in my stomach. I paid over $15 and felt I needed to cleanse my pallet and the McDonalds down the street. Ok so maybe I chose the wrong item. I looked at every plate that was going out of that kitchen and a saw nothing special. Just average looking meals that are probably just average tasting. I was there 40 minutes a saw four plates come back, two customers were served incomplete orders ( 1 of them was me) and 1 table up and left because they took too long to correct the order. Then they were contemplating what to do with the order of the couple that just left? Really? The expediters were crashing and burning. I am sure the staff is new and service will get better but my advice is use your best expediters from San Diego for your Grand Opening. You only get one first impression . I won't be coming back because of the food not the service.

Tried to take my family to the new breakfast place in town. I guess if there was some signage stating "soft opening, invite only" it would have been a better experience than being told this once inside. It will be some time before we return. FYI, Johnny Rebs was happy to seat us.

Ok so I heard all sorts of hype for this place, and I'm not saying I was disappointed, but it didn't really stand up to the hype either. When I got there and they told me 20 min wait I was fine, but when they actually sat me about an hour later I was pretty grumpy. Portions are huge, fair for the price but almost excessive. I did like the option for the food challenge- dozen egg omelette plus a massive amount of hash browns on a one hour time limit. You even get a t-shirt and a photo on the wall of fame if you do it. That was pretty cool. Service was nice at first, then we got ignored once we got the meal, nice tv's to watch Sunday football, but overall I was not impressed with the place.

I don't know why this place doesn't have 4-5 stars? I've been here 3x's already and the food has been amazing all three times. I've ordered a variety of dishes on their menu and each dish has been super delicious without any complaint. Definitely consistent. Their customer service is great, super friendly employee's. The only complaint I could give this place is how expensive a cup of coffee is. I mean this place isn't cheap, but the quality service and food make it worth the $$. Will be coming back and have recommended this place to several friends.

I came here for breakfast w my gf. This place is pricey considering the type of food. Biscuits, eggs, sausages, home fries all tasted normal.. Nothing extraordinary. Will probably not return since I don't want to pay $40+ for a normal breakfast I can make at home.

We were excited to try this new place on Chapman as we live up the street. The wait was long. The food not so great. My husband asked for a side of guacamole and it was brown. The hash browns were mushy like mashed potatoes. We were sat by the kitchen so we could see the cooks. The looks on their faces was chaos and confusion. Probably will get better over time, but not a good first impression. On top of it all it's pretty pricey for the quality of food. We thought we'd have a good alternative to our current selections. I recommend you go to the Arthur's which is down the street, or the pancake house. Much better for the price and wait.

Second time here, loved it last time but def lacking this time. Won't come back. Pumpkin pancakes are lacking, sweet potato pancakes are mediocre. Service great. Food expensive.

Had breakfast here this morning because our usual spots in Orange were packed. We've been here once before and it was good, so we gave it another go. It's Saturday morning, so there was a 15 minute wait. The dining room inside was packed and the patio had 4 tables open. We opted to sit in the patio because it was immediately available and were warned about the direct sunlight, however, it was fine with us.We ordered two coffees, the rancher omelet (hash browns and toast) and scrambled eggs, bacon, and hash browns. When the food arrived, it arrived incomplete. We did not receive an order of toast and hash browns, and also the scrambled eggs were cold. The toast and hash browns arrived 5 minutes later, but we had to wait for our reorder on the scrambled eggs. While waiting, we observed that other tables were asking for condiments, silverware, extra napkins and sorts that some tables had and other did not. There was a young guy introducing himself as one of the owners, however, we did not get acknowledged or offered a mimosa during one of his three fly-bys through the patio. The food was fine once it all arrived and the service was average. Our portions were large and even the scrambled eggs were warm. I cannot point the finger at any one person regarding our breakfast experience. I personally prefer to receive my entire breakfast complete. On another occasion, one of our party did not received her breakfast 10 minutes after we all received ours...that is for another review.... Regardless, Broken Yolk has to work out some logistics. Servers or kitchen or both need to be more effiicient to ensure meals are sent out complete and on time. Is the kitchen overwhelmed by the demand? Or, are the servers swamped that they let the dishes sit at the service counter? Also, I suggest that the part owner guy say HI to all the tables, not just the few he feels compelled to introduce himself to. There are a lot of local breakfast places likes Kimmies, The Original Pancake House, Arthurs and the Filling Station that the Broken Yolk has to compete with.

I can only review what I experienced. My server McKenna was super nice, fast, and attentive. The manager was super friendly and funny. My friend and I shared the Border Benedict which were excellent (even though the meat was a little tough) and Border Check which was spicy!! I also ordered the Nutella crepes and they were thick, undercooked and very disappointing.

Great renovation age ages old building...looks like new! Feels comfortable, great service and food is very large portions...take or split a meal with another...almost every one has something to "go" when they leave. One negative..no Senior menu that I saw. Employees work fast and accurately ...... Everyone of them pleasant and seem to enjoy serving you! Now that's a big plus!

Came to the Broken Yolk while in CA for the Thanksgiving holiday. We were seated quickly and our server Molly greated us promptly and with great enthusiasm. I had the Eggs Benedict and my friend had the Rancher omelette. Both were awesome and I would recommend them to anyone heading in there. Good stuff!

Attended soft opening. The chorizo omelet was very good and I didn't have to wait long. Pretty good for a new place. The pancake house had the best breakfast in Orange, The king is dead, long live the king.

Tried them 4 times. The first time was pretty good. The second visit was OK, but slow enough to be disappointing. The third time my omelet GUSHED raw egg all over my plate when I pierced it with my fork. There was so much orange/yellow liquid that for a moment I thought it was filled with some sort of cheese or hollandaise sauce that I hadn't noticed on the menu when I ordered it. The fourth time was a disaster. It took nearly an hour for the first part of the order to arrive. My dry over cooked breakfast burger was topped by very slimy eggs that were so raw the bun fell apart when I first picked it up. This was paired with cold greasy rock hard onion rings that were so overcooked the onions inside seem to have vaporized. Other treats that day included burnt corn cakes that appeared to have been fire-hardened to to resist forks and even more severely burnt sweet potato pancakes that were carefully arranged on the plate black sides down in the hope that we wouldn't notice. Most customers looked very angry and were voicing complaints about slowness and quality. Our food was so bad that we didn't eat it. Arthurs, Rockwells, Flappys, Original Pancake House and even the dumpster behind Denny's are all better choices.

The service was extremely slow even for a take-out order. My order was small and they messed it up. The price is a bit high for what I ordered and had to return because the small order was missing some menu items. They didn't include condiments. Not going back to this place ever!!

This place has a nice atmosphere and was pretty busy on a Saturday morning, but the food was sub par and overpriced in my opinion. I love breakfast joints but I hate it when places cook your eggs in some butter or butter flavored oil. Yuck! My chicken fried steak was beyond fried and my husband's carne asada on his border benedict was overcooked and gristly. The best part of our meal was the fresh fruit bowl and they didn't even cook that part! Save your money, y'all!

I ate here for the first time today, but it won't be my last! Down from LA to have breakfast with my family and had a delicious meal. My sister and I split the breakfast quesadilla and the Wild West burger. Burger was moist, tender and very flavorful. The breakfast quesadilla was yummy, but could be better with a side of sour cream. I think the prices are reasonable for breakfast, considering the level of quality, but again I am from LA and usually pay higher prices for food anyway. Looking forward to trying out other delicious menu items in the future. Welcome to Orange!

We have been waiting for them to open for we always like a good breakfast. My sister ordered the eggs Benedict and her eggs were hard and the sauce wasn't very good. As for me, I ordered the Southern biscuits and gravy with an egg over easy on the hash browns. The biscuits were hard and I only are the tops even though I didn't care for the gravy. The egg was hard like my sister's and we brought to their attention and they said the chefs been having a problem getting the eggs right. I didn't finish and neither did my sister. We had to ask the busboy to get us water for our waiter rarely checked on us and it wasn't busy for we were there around 2. Been there done that and won't be going back.

Drove by on Labor Day about 11ish, saw the crowd and said to myself, "Later." Went in on 9/9 at noon with two other people. Were greeted and seated promptly. And that is the best I can say about the place. The service was inattentive. The food (an omelette, a salad, and a sandwich with no special requests) took 40 minutes to arrive at our table. Drink refills were only given when we managed to flag down another server. The kitchen got the order wrong, and the server who delivered the food in two installments (again, not our server) had no clue that it was wrong. Our server did NOT check on us at all, until she delivered the bill and gave us a box. The food was expensive for what it was, but I can deal with O.C. prices if the service is good. Management, please note: no working person will come in for lunch if it takes 40 minutes to get food to the diners. Love this place in San Diego, but corporate needs to kick some butt with the kitchen and wait staff if this place will survive.

Came here on a busy long weekend. Prices are a bit high but portions are huge. I would suggest splitting a meal with someone if your not a huge eater. Service was quick and very friendly. Food was good. Not the best I've ever had but we enjoyed our meal.

So why do you take reservations and not have a table ready but at everything is ok. Sitting here waiting for what they said would be 2 minutes and now is 20 minutes and counting. Manager said "Sorry but I can't do anything about it. ". Well jacka** then don't take reservations and promise that you will have it ready!!! Worst run place and I used to work in the restaurant industry. If you take reservations you put a table aside 10 minutes before they party is to arrive! This place sucks!!!!

  • Belinda M.

Eh....We've had better everything elsewhere! Service was so-so, food was OK (I could do as well or better at home) pricing was a triffle high foe what we got (a 'chili' covered omelet, chiliqueles, pancakes~kids plates, and 'chicken' and waffle) Won't be back anytime soon...there's too many other great breakfast places in the area!

Cannot understand why some have reviewed this place with four stars. Not worth the wait or the food. Oatmeal - cold and hard. Eggs /bacon - cold, greasy. Waffle - so dense it looked like a flat muffin. Multigrain pancakes - not so good. Arthur's and Johnny Rebs would be a better choice. Heck, McDonalds would be a better choice.

Got here on a busy Sunday am. Wait was like ten mins. Service was great. Madison was super nice. Food... Well according to the hubby Norms is better. He ordered the Huevos Rancheros and the tortilla under the eggs was under cooked. There was no hot sauce. Everything they had was too mild for us, even the side of jalapeños. The kids had the pancakes, and they were bland. Woulda been better if they used buttermilk for the batter. One of the kids got a side egg, sunny side up..was mire runny side up. My Rancher Omelet was good. Big portions. Fair priced. Will try again. Maybe different items.

Very busy on Sunday mornings, but you get seated quickly enough. The BLT is pretty tasty, but most everything else was/looked pretty average. Prices are not too bad, but they have some early morning (6-8am, I think) breakfast specials that looked pretty awesome, if you can wake up early enough.

I have waited to see how the Broken Yolk shakes out and I'm afraid it's going in the wrong direction. This new franchisee has some work to do. When the training crew was on hand the food was served promptly and looking good and fresh. Servers of course were new and enthusiastic, but need some simple training. Now that they've been open for awhile, (I've been 3 times for breakfast and once for lunch) Someone isn't paying attention, the presentation and quality of the food has dropped. If it doesn't look good, it certainly isn't going to taste good. The service has been spotty as well. Prices are comparable to Flappy Jack's in Anaheim Hills, but the attention to detail isn't there. When you are getting top dollar, you need to keep the quality up. Work on it please, otherwise my business will be moving on.

Border benedict is the order to get..the sweet corn bread on the bottom really ties the whole diah together...very lively environment...pretty large portions...avout $10-12 bucks a dish....they have a $5 menu if u come into breakfast before 8am.

Three stars because the food was really good. The service though needs a lot of work. Busboys wandering around aimlessly while all the glasses on our table were empty. Waited about ten minutes to be greeted at all and another twenty for our food. It was a Sunday afternoon, so maybe they were not used to it being so busy? It wasn't packed though. I might be back to give them another shot since they're close to home and good food, but not if I'm really hungry since it takes so long to get anything.

In short - Disappointing. My girlfriend and I decided to try it out after I went to a location in San Diego and had a decent experience with some really good food. This place definitely did not reach those expectations. Of course, i checked yelp beforehand, but gave it a shot anyways, thinking it couldn't be THAT bad. Well, I was wrong. Got a table pretty quick around noon on a Saturday. Waitress, I believe it was Kacey, took our drink orders right away. And that's when everything went downhill. Service - It took about 5 minutes to get a glass of pomegranate and orange juice. After that, during the 15 minutes it took our waitress to finally have time just to take our order we noticed tables in the surrounding area started getting a few incorrect orders and it was taking them a while to get their food, and that made us a little nervous. I don't really blame our waitress for this, because it seemed like she was the only one dealing with about 20 tables, which included the patio seating. The only other bright spot I found was that the bus boys were really nice about correcting orders or getting other things for customers. One of the bus boys even noticed we never got water and got us some glasses without us asking. I'd probably call the service uneven, as a few employees went around asking how everything was to a handful of tables, whereas it seemed like we were getting skipped over. Maybe they had something against the Asian guy with the Niners hat, but that wasn't the only thing that was uneven about our experience. How is it that you have some many employees roaming around, but only one waitress in the entire section of the restaurant is able to take orders? I think if you're working as a team, you'd be able to help take orders so the one waitress isn't swamped with having to deal with so many tables. Food - We both got omelettes, The Rancher and the Border Check. I ordered the Border Check while I was in SD, so I suggested it to my girlfriend. We also both ordered hashbrowns and blueberry muffins. Remember the uneven part? The omelettes were uneven! In my girlfriend's Border Check, all the chorizo was on one side of omelette, and all the jalapenos and cheese were on the other side. How can the kitchen manage to fold an omelette the wrong direction? On top of that, my hashbrowns were burnt, and for some reason, had a section in the middle of it that was extremely salty, like they just poured salt into one part of the hashbrowns instead of sprinkling it, and didn't bother to fix it. Also, the chorizo was mushy and tasted more like meatloaf rather than fried sausage. At least the blueberry muffins were good.

Arrived at 1:20 pm and were seated immediately, got food at 2:07. Some other table who arrived before us didn't get food until 2:10. Burger overcooked, egg undercooked, stale corn cakes. Been here 3 times before & noticed it seemed to be slower & worse quality each time. Liked their sweet potato pancakes, but never coming back here again.
