The food was amazing! It's a small place and old time diner style. Staff is very friendly. Portions are huge and they have a wide variety of options to eat. But many vegetarian options though. Would highly recommend it if you like an old fashioned diner style environment.

Decent prices Damn good food Awesome breakfast... Awesomely low key... Come here to be invisible and gobble down bacon. And biscuits and gravy... After the chilaquiles.

The Fried Egg Sandwich was made with Texas toast, real thick bacon and the perfectly fried fresh egg. The hash browns could have been crispier so next time I will order them "well" done. My husband had the often photographed burrito breakfast sandwich and could only finish half of it. That's a record as he is quite a large man. He said "It was great!" Overall a small family run divey diner but exceptionally done. They asked to refill my coffee at least 3 times. They had some clients take up 2 parking spots (must have been hung over) and one guy drove a truck and trailer and took 4 spots! So be prepared to park on the street if necessary.

Best biscuits and gravy in town. The only unfortunate aspect of Soscol Cafe is it's limited seating capacity. I don't even bother trying to eat here on the weekends due to the line of people waiting outside. Every menu option is delicious in the greasy spoon fashion and will leave you completely full.

Awesome!! Don't judge a book by its cover! This place is TINY, very simple, very divey , you might even pass it while looking for it. I've had pancakes all around the world at all prices ..... The best Pancakes I've ever had were at this place!!!! They are the size of dinner plates they are thick moist and butter milky . Yum. The omelettes are HuGE this place rocks !!! Eat at the counter like I did. Watch that chef kick ass on that grill. I love it here. I don't need to be seen , I don't need to be trendy and cool I NEED good pancakes!! Run don't walk to this tiny tiny place it's awesome!! Excellent service and hard working Hispanics running this place like a tight ship Thank you!!!!

Small little place, wasn't too hard to find.. Came here with hubs, his son and his son's gf... Looks like a dive bar, pretty small place and it looks like a place you would just drive by unless you knew about it.. I happen to Yelp the place cause hubs son requested to have chicken fried steak for brunch.. We drove from Yountville to find the place.. When we got here it was pretty slammed, every seat filled up with people eating or waiting for their breakfast... The wait was about 20 mins, so not too bad.. We all were looking at the menu while waiting for a seat so that we can order as soon as we sat down.. We got offered drinks as soon as we sat down.. The server was super friendly and nothing but smiles from him.. Even offered us girls help with a decision for food.. Hubs and his son ordered chicken fried steak, sons gf ordered the super club sandwich with fries and I ordered the basic 2 eggs with potatoes, toast and added a side of chorizo sausage (which they make in house).. Food took about 15 mins to come out.. When it did, it was a huge generous portion.. Decent breakfast place but watching them work, sitting where we did make me question how food prep and sanitation works there.. My hubs asked for a glass of water refill and the waitress grabbed his cup and scooped ice where she was getting ice for everyone else like it wasn't cross contamination doing that... No gloves were used while putting together the food.. Mayo out the open, don't know how long it was sitting there.. The home brewed iced tea was sitting open with no lids.. Same tongs were used for everything and hanging off the stove handles.. Roof is falling apart and gross.. And there bathroom was outside on the side of the place and it was a shared bathroom for men and women.. To top everything else off I got sick later that day, it was the only place i ate at that day.. Maybe I'm a tad harsh on my review but I'm honest.. And i do know what I'm talking about I've been a chef and have worked in restaurants for the last 15 years.. Maybe if they fixed the roof and change how they will handle food safely then I'll give them another shot but until then i won't be back.. They have a great place, the staff are uber nice and food portions are very generous but they just really need to update certain thing..

Great food, one of my favorite breakfast spots in Napa. However, a negative experience will now steer me away from this place. Had the server imply that we should leave while I was with a group of friends. While I was reading over the bill she comes over to ask If I'm ready in a rude tone. Reminding me that the bill is correct, literally one minute after she had handed it to me. If you're not gonna let me take my time eating, you don't deserve my money.

Hey fancy ladies with the beautiful dress, this isn't Chandon or anything close... REAL hole in the wall... but I'm sure they get that a lot. That was us... we had those nice flowy wine dresses and ate here for breakfast. We needed a hearty breakfast before a day of clatchness...Classy and ratchetness) I needed to eat before drinking, so I got the steak and eggs. Breakfast of a champion! And damn, that piece of meat was huge! And I was able to eat it all. Btw I'm not too fond of hash browns, but their hash browns were nice and crunchy all soaked in oil. Delicious. Great comfort food and plentiful. Price was also decent. A nice hole in the wall to start the day right in Napa Valley.

Not much to look at from the outside, just a cinder block building with a window and a small parking lot and not much going on inside with ten counter seats and five booths. Inside, simple coffee shop style cooking with a griddle and some coolers. But "simple" ended when my plate (more like a platter) of Huevos Rancheros arrived. On top of a tortilla shell, black beans, fried eggs, shredded cheese and the usual red white and green of the Mexican flag that is also salsa, sour cream and guacamole. Do people really eat this much? I was able to demolish only about half of it before I was too stuffed to continue. Coffee was decent and the price was right. Soscol Cafe is a winner.

My wife and I visited Napa this weekend and decided to stop-in for breakfast. As the other Yelpers say, don't be fooled by the exterior of the building or allow that to prevent you from venturing inside. The inside isn't very big (10 seats at the counter and 6 booths), but the portions of food and the flavors are HUGE. I ordered the Corned Beef Hash and was excited to see real slices of corned beef mixed with onions and potatoes. 2 eggs, hash browns and toast came with my meal. The corned beef was cooked perfectly. My wife ordered the breakfast burrito, which was the same size as her plate. This came with an order of hash browns and the burrito condiments (guacamole, salsa & sour cream) on the side. The burrito was very good and tasty. We only waited about 10 minutes before a booth opened up for us. The staff were very friendly and the service was awesome.

Local joint, no frills, decent prices, stomach filling greasy spoon

If you are looking for traditional breakfast staples done well, this is your place. The portion sizes are huge and the price is fair. I usually come for breakfast but have also enjoyed a great B.L.T for lunch. Beware, there is not much seating so prepare to wait, it is worth it! The biscuits and gravy are (well were, I'm a vegetarian now) excellent! This time I tried their chilaquiles, which aren't on the menu but if you ask they will make them. I normally order chilaquiles with verde sauce but they recommended the red sauce. They definitely did not disappoint, although I still think I would like the verde. Maybe next time

  • Glen B.

I wrote about this place in 2012 and my sentiments remain true in 2015. Simply a gem in Napa Chilaquiles are a MONSTER dish. Enough for two, but don't be ashamed to be selfish and keep to yourself !!

Went to this place based on the help ratings. On the outside the place looks sketchy, it's definitely a divey diner kind of place. The inside is small, diner seating with 6 booths on the side. Good for 1-4 people, no bigger. There is no waiting area, so it's best to wait outside. If you want to wait inside you will have to keep moving cause there's not enough room for customers to leave the restaurant. It's hot inside, and the ventilation is not the best. As far the the quality and portion of the food I would give it a 5 star. The food was good and the portion size was big. There were two servers and they were not very attentive as far as refilling coffee or when getting the bill.

    (4)
  • Carlos L.

I am very glad that I found this place thanks to Yelp. Their food is incredibly good at a reasonable price. The staff is very attentive and nice. The place is relatively small and can get crowded at times during the weekend, but even if you have to wait it is totally worth it.

  • Tess S.

This place came highly recommended by a friend with the warning that he and his wife each ordered a breakfast and it ruined any further eating opportunities for the rest of the day. So, we took his advice and split the plate of chilaquiles with a side order of flour tortillas. With 2 coffee, our bill was $12. Be sure and tip well, they are family owned and deserve it. We have a running competition for chilaquiles with all Mexican breakfast places that we visit. This place scored in the top 3, behind a little place in Rocky Point, Mexico and Taco Roco on Broad street in San Luis Obispo, CA. We were still pretty full even after splitting, so approach with caution.

Great little breakfast diner in downtown Napa! Staying at the Silverado Resort the morning after a long day of wine tasting just felt like a hardy breakfast. Thanks to Yelp we stumbled onto this great breakfast. This is a place we probably wouldn't walk into without the yelp reviews. Everything was great a diner breakfast

  • Helen M.

Don't be deceived by the outside...or the inside...this place knows how to cook. Friendly staff, incredible Huevos Rancheros, good coffee. This is a very old establishment with character. Probably hasn't been updated since the 50's or 60's but completely worth it. My husband loved his corned beef and hash, but really, the huevos rancheros is where its at!

    (4)
  • Lea M.

WAAAAAAAAIIIIIIYYYYY?!!! Why is it that every time I try to make something it never comes out as good as someone else? I got too excited this morning because I was damn near set on ordering the Huervos Rancheros & that is exactly what I did... until I realized that they had Chilaquiles on the specials board. Oh my heart sank when I saw that. Next time... I promise my subconscious self next time I'll order the chilaquiles. Anyways!! The man that took our order was super friendly and really nice. My SO is a picky ass eater but the kind gentlemen was able to take his order down without a frown that we are so accustomed to from other restaurant attendants. The H.R. Was banging! Idk what mine is missing but there is certainly something they've got that I sure ain't got (Pinterest you lackin' bro). My SO loved his plate. He loved it so much that he wants to go back next week. (Inner voice sayz yeeeeeessszz) In the wise kinna altered words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, "I'll beh (Johann Sebastian) BACH!"

Had some business to take care of up in Napa, so we decided to stop off for a quick bite. That is exactly what it was too, quick! I was greeted with a smile and served some hot, fresh and strong coffee. Although they didn't have my favorite eggs benedict on the menu, I was happy with my omelet and home fries, I wish I would've got the Huervos Rancheros because according to the people sitting behind be it was a winner. I would go back if in the area, but I wouldn't go out my way, why because when you visit Napa, you/I/we want to try different places!

  • Nikole S.

I'll take an order of tums with that please! This is your typical greasy spoon hole in the wall eatery. Went for breakfast a few times and left feeling satisfied and ready for a nap. Biscuits and gravy were bursting with flavor and omelets are tasty as well. They use quality ingredients and don't skimp on the portion size. The only reason I am deducting a star is because I think the place could be a little cleaner and needs a make over. Also, they have no air conditioning ( in Napa!) and there is a bit of a fly problem. I would have given them 3 stars because of this but I can't ignore that the food is pretty phenomenal.

  • Frank C.

Great inexpensive greasy spoon the food is very good and the portions are plenty to share. This is an amazing little spot which I hope never goes away. Again, it is an older establishment, limited seating, bad coffee and great food. The perfect way to start your day in Napa.

OMG! In a world focused on wine and fancy food - there is a hole in the wall breakfast spot that hits the spot without breaking your bank. Diner setting. Delicious food. And FLAVOR!

You won't leave hungry here. Visited the Wine Country a few weeks ago and obeyed the Wifey to eat here for brunch. She didn't want Gott's, nor the other fancier places in Napa Valley. She wanted something hearty and a great value. I'm always down for a hole-in-the-wall joint anyways. Besides, what we ended up saving here we ended up splurging on other things later in our trip. It was a win win for us. Soscol is in a small place in a small lot and only a few parking spaces. But what they lack in size, they more than make up for in portion and big flavor. The place is cozy with only a few booths and side counters. I immediately noticed that it was a popular spot for locals sprinkled with a few out-of-towners here and there. The place appears to be always busy, which is a good sign. We got here just after the lunch hour crowd was departing (which was good for us) and all the workers inside pretty much smiled and greeted us like we were a part of their family. We got a booth right by the window and our server immediately got us each a cup of Joe's and told us to call her back when we were ready for our order. The menu consist of your typical American breakfast and Soscol added their Mexican flair from the names of their dishes to the ingredients. I ordered the Napa Omelette with Grilled Chicken and the Wifey ordered the Corned Beef Hash & Eggs. I also ordered a side dish of Potato Skin thinking it was side dish as I imagined was a small plate of Potato Skin. What arrived instead was a full plate of huge chunks of potatoes topped with grated cheese, salsa, guacamole and sour cream. Ay Dios Mio, I was already almost stuffed before receiving my entree. The Napa Omelette comes with Hash Browns and a couple of toasted bread. The omelette was filled with fresh ingredients right from the farms of the Napa Valley. Yup, you can taste the quality and freshness as I was getting fuller and fuller with every bite. The Corned Beef Hash & Eggs also comes with toasted bread. The Corned Beef, though gristly, had a nice flavor and nice ratio of meat to onion was balanced. Service was great as she kept returning to check up on us while refilling our cups. My only nitpick would be that I prefer my Hash Browns to be more on the crispy and crunchy side. Theirs came out uneven and more on the mushy side. But this was just a minor thing to me. Overall, you get good food at a great value and plenty of leftovers if you are a light eater.

Best breakfast in town!! We had the breakfast burrito and special which both were fantastic. Large portions and I couldn't finish and I'm a big eater. There green chili sauce is very tasty and not too spicy. Staff were very friendly and food was quick. Definitely on the list to come back too.

Just had breakfast at the Cafe. Real home cooked breakfast. We had a monster Napa omelette and the ginormous breakfast burrito. Highly recommend the place. Try their scratch made corned beef hash too.

Small place a few minutes from town. This is a diners breakfast experience, food is good and the people from the kitchen to the servers are very nice and accomodating. I would come again anytime I'm in napa.

Definitely a hidden gem in Napa. Small mom and pop place. Went there for breakfast and ordered the Chorizo and eggs thinking I get they traditional chorizo and eggs, instead I got something better, a patty made of chorizo! It look and taste amazing, much to my surprise I did not think chorizo could be made like that. With it came hash browns and toast. Both were excellent as well. Overall the breakfast was a great one, the price is reasonable under 10 dollars. Better than most places that offer chorizo and eggs and add French fries in the chorizo. I highly recommend this place for breakfast, seating is limited, if you are by yourself, you have to sit at the counter, which is a little awkward, but you get used it. For couples or more booths are available, from what it look like not more than 4 could fit. 2 thumbs up for the food, place is older but a gem of a location for Napa.

WARNING: YOU WILL PAY A DOLLAR FOR AN EXTRA PLATE. Hole in the wall on Soscol St. You will easily miss it if you drive too fast. The place was pretty busy when we arrived but we got seated right away. My guess is this place has been around for ages. I discovered that this place serves huge portions of anything. We had a craving for a late b'fast. Some customers were having lunch and from the looks of it all plates were filled with food to the brim. OVERSIZED PORTIONS. The place is small. There's only about 6 booths crammed in this place and some bar stools as well. The bar area was funny looking with a very short low space from stool to counter. It almost looks like an Oompah Loompah breakfast bar. I thought it was cute too! I had the Corned Beef Hash with Home made Fries,2 Eggs and O.J. $7.50 + $2.95. Company in my table ordered similar dishes and we ended up paying $30.00+. FOR TWO. Somewhat pricey but portions are huge and the corned beef hash was different. It was chunks of really tasty meat. Tons of potatoes and two egg perfectly cooked medium well. I'm impressed. Their Chicken Fried Steak with 2 Eggs was delicious.Price: $6.95. Service was fast We parked on the street but noticed a small parking area to the right of the restaurant. ONE NEGATIVE Thing that made this a 3 star review was the fact that we requested an extra plate for a friend to share my food. We found out when the bill came that they charged us an EXTRA DOLLAR for that plate! The server didn't even care to tell us upfront that they were going to do that. I've never been in restaurants where an extra plate is an extra buck! A posting somewhere warning customers of that would probably let them get away with it-but I felt ambushed! That actually left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Behold the breakfast burrito and DESPAIR (see pic)!! I did, cause I knew I was gonna hurt myself trying to eat all of it. I challenge Man V. Food to tackle even 2 of these! At the same time, I was also very happy that I had found a bit of home Tex-Mex cooking in the heart of Napa's French, saucy food. Unfortunately, we didn't discover this little hole in the wall until our last day. Upon walking in, I thought to myself "This is where the geezers eat. Must be good." Lots of locals there including the gentleman next to us who was treating his elderly pops to breakfast. Very sweet. Back to the Burrito of Doom. It was chock full of black beans, cheese, eggs and bacon and came with huge dollops of guac, sour cream and pico and monstrous home fries. All this I think for about seven bucks (cash only, folks!). If you know Napa, you will be astounded by that fair price. This was our travel home day and we ate at about 7:30 a.m. I did not need to eat again til we got back to Austin at 9 that night. So, yeah, thanks Soscol Cafe, for stickin with me all day long. Next time I'm in Napa, maybe I'll tackle the Hash from Helllllll......

Excellent little diner. I found this little gem whilst traveling in Napa and, as usual, Yelp did not lead me astray. Food helpings are generous, which makes for a great breakfast before visiting the wineries. I had the corned beef and hash which consists of real corned beef that has been sliced to accompany generously sized cubed potatoes and the obligatory eggs. Flavor was great! As other yelpers have mentioned, it can get cozy, but for a reasonably priced diner, the squeeze is worth it!

Girlfriend and I found this place thanks to Yelp and so glad we did!! We had just driven into Napa from San Fran after a long, very early flight from Houston. Needless to say, we were starving. And this place did not disappoint. Not the best looking place from the outside, but if you're into dives like we are, you'll love it. Even if not, eat here!!! Small place but fortunately not many people were there on a Monday morning. We shared the fried egg sandwich with bacon and damn it was good!!! The bacon is thick cut, bread was buttered just right, and the eggs cooked perfectly. Awesome!! I had the Mexican omelet (chorizo and peppers) with black beans. A great ass omelet and the black beans, maybe out of a can, sure tasted good and authentic. GF had the Napa omelet which had chicken, spinach and mushrooms. I preferred the Mexican, but hers was good. Really good diner food; good service and very friendly people. If ever back in Napa, I will stop there!!!

This place is busy!! Came in mid morning and were able to grab the last of the chairs at counter. We watched them cook our food and was impressed by the efficiency. The portions are Huge. I got an omelette and chose the hash browns. The service is nice and the food is good!

Not the best eating experience. My husband saw the place as we were making our way to our hotel and decided to walk to it the next morning for breakfast on 8/20. Its a small hole in the wall place and was quite full. We sat at the counter, although I did not enjoy seeing behind the counter. The floors and kitchen area did not look particularly clean. I ordered scrambled eggs and two pancakes. At some point, my husband saw a table open and wanted to move fromt the counter. We informed our server and moved to a table. There was a large fly population around the table and counter chairs that we endured while waiting and eating our meal. Not a good sign to the cleanliness factor. I can say I was not impressed with the pancakes! They were doughy and tough. I only ate one and ate my eggs, which were a bit overcooked. The good experience was that the service was quick and polite. We finished our meal and left, knowing we will not be returning.

My fellow YELPERS you have let me down with giving this place 4 stars!!! This place is all about quantity and NOT quality!! If you are looking for lots of food, cheap and full of grease this is your place!!! If you are looking for quality food, freshness and a nice Breakfast experience - Go Somewhere Else!!!! It's also not very clean.. My husband ordered the eggs and hamburger patty and the middle of the patty was raw in the middle not editable.. I orders Ham & Cheese omelet also not very good and the grease that oozed out was disgusting..

We kicked off our weekend of wine tastings with breakfast here based on several reviews by other Yelpers. That was four days ago and I'm *still* full! Sweartogod, if you go and don't get the huevos rancheros, I will find you and punch you in the neck. They're *that* good. I make a mean huevos rancheros myself, but these beat mine (not by much, of course). Had I paid attention to some of the reviews, I wouldn't have been at all surprised at how large the servings were. We totally could have split the dish, but then I wouldn't have had the awesome buffer against the wine I was getting ready to consume the rest of the day. On the beverage side of things, the orange juice is a hell of a bargain. You know how, normally, for $3 you get one of those incredibly small baby juice glasses? Not at Soscol Cafe, my friends. You get the mac daddy 16 oz. glass! For $2.95! And, if orange juice isn't your thing, or you need some hair of the dog, you can order a beer with your breakfast. Yes, the place is really tiny, but we didn't have to wait for a table at 10:00 on a Saturday. In a nutshell, Soscol Cafe is full of win. Nice job, folks! Next time we're in Napa, we'll definitely drop in.

Thanks again, Yelp, for showing me where to get the best damn corned beef hash in town. Was it from one of those fancypants places across the river? Nope. It was from a hole-in-the-wall diner with rickety tables and frequented by guys who wear flannel and trucker caps unironically. With strips of real corned beef, there was nary a can in sight. Unfortunately I DIDN'T heed Yelp's warnings about portion size and got the full plate. Oof. Next time, folks, take advantage of that half-plate option they offer. Really.

Great locals/dive spot! The place is really small so if you're lucky, you can grab a seat right away. I can definitely say that this place is very generous with their portions size and overall good place to get good hearty breakfast. I ordered the corn beef hash which was not bad at all.

  • Gisele C.

I knew as soon as we parked beside this place that we were in for a solid breakfast. The cafe is small but the flavors and portions are huge! I had the corned beef hash with 2 over easy eggs. You can really tell that the hash is cooked on a well seasoned griddle. The potatoes and meat had a nice carmelized exterior. Both me and my husband were happy with our meals and left stuffed. Nice homey spot in downtown Napa!

Dropped in here on Thanksgiving day 15 minutes before they were closing and they were nice enough to feed my hungry parents and myself! Ordered chicken Cesar salad, BLT and egg white omelette for table. Really big portions but very tastey! Was nervous about ordering a salad at a diner but it was super fresh and chicken was grilled perfectly. Great place to stop in if you are heading to wine country!

Dumpy little place but damn, the food is tasty. Vegetarians need not apply. Extra thick bacon, check. From scratch biscuits and gravy, check. Hot griddle cakes, check. Need I say more?

Came west to check out San Fran, Napa and Yosemite. Yelp pointed us to the Soscol Cafe and the reviews were spot on. Ha the Juevos Rancheros and the Breakfast Burrito and both were outstanding. The burrito had the right mix of egg, bacon and beans and the hash browns...finally someone who does them crispy! The cook gave us a smile when he knew how happy his food made us. Start your day off right in Napa at the Soscol Cafe!

Really impressed with this little gem of a breakfast place! Very humble and capable people cooking, taking orders, and cleaning up and they do great work. We enjoyed the LARGE coffee mugs, quick & friendly service, excellent descriptions of meals, all before we received our EXTRA LARGE portion sizes of delicious breakfast. We couldn't finish our meals, but loved both the huevos rancheros ($8) and Napa Omelet ($10). Price very fair for these enormous and tasty dishes. Nothing fancy here, but solid, quick, yummy and filling.

Classic Hole in the Wall. Sunday on the way home from Calistoga we stopped for Breakfast in Napa. A place down the road was packed, so we turned around and went here. Am I glad we did. Great food. I had a Machaca scramble that comes with a salad. The scramble was filled with fresh ingredients. The wife had a small omelet with fresh avocado and cheese, they adjusted the size for her. Very good service. We sat at the booth next to the door. It is small and crowded, but well worth it. Why 5 stars, because they deserve it.

The reviews are right, this place is a tiny place with a huge amount of food. The prices are fantastic, the owner works hard behind and in front of the counter and the food was very good. We had breakfast after a night at Terra (see my review on that place!) and going through 4 bottles of wine. I hit Yelp in the am trying to figure out where to go. We got there and there was about a 15 minute wait luckily but when we left, there were more people waiting outside. We shared two different omlettes which all had fresh ingredients and the vegetables inside were not overcooked mush like many places make them. Great food, service was ok (coffee refills were slow but hey, I'm easy and don't stress out over that nor ding a restaurant for something that I consider minor), and I'm glad I found the place from all the other Yelpers. Definitely a great breakfast spot.

Read the reviews and saw the pics of the cornedbeef hash and I had to have it. Food was really good and staff was great.

First off, they're a tiny place -but they're delicious. All of the usual suspects on a breakfast menu -all cooked within view from any seat in the place, and quickly -good taste, attentive staff, and reasonably priced for Napa.

Corned beef hash is killer. Great hang over joint or anytime for a big breakfast. Portions are HUGE - can easily share between two people. Less than impressed with the biscuit and gravy. Sit at the breakfast counter and enjoy the show - the cooks are great to watch. Dive joint, great corned beef hash! If you're in Napa for two days, this spot and Alexis Baking Company (ABC) are two very different, great spots!

Great hole in the wall. Only found it thanks to Yelp. Great old school breakfast. Don't miss this place.

Showed up before 9AM on a Sunday morning and had the breakfast special: scrambled eggs with bacon, mushrooms, onions, cheese, with home fries, toast and coffee. Reasonable prices for ample portions of food. My meal was pretty tasty. Home fries were a little too well done for me, but were a good complement to scramble. Husband ordered the same with a side of biscuit/gravy. He declared that the biscuit and gravy were delicious. Coffee was hot and strong. Casual atmosphere... I wouldn't call it pretty or quaint, just functional. Customers were a mix of tourists and locals. A tiny place, full capacity was probably no more than 25 people. There was a line out the door by 9:30AM. Seat yourself in a booth or at the counter and you'll be greeted immediately by a friendly waitperson. Service was efficient. Picky teenage son would like this place. Will return with him soon.

This is my favorite breakfast place in Napa. If you want a huge greasy breakfast this is the place to go! Great for those hangover mornings!!

Great hole in the wall greasy spoon cafe. Biscuits and gravy were oh so good - but after only eating 1/2 of them I was in serious need of a nap! Huge portions. Husbands corned beef hash was good too.

Tiny place with great food, ample portions at a good price. Each omlet or specialty breakfast plate would easily feed two average eaters for breakfast. Got ours to go and the whole family loved it. The Huevos Rancheros was authentic and extremely tasty. We will be making this our regular breakfast stop when in Napa

huge huge portions. i want to mark it down for this because i find it to be a burden to not be able to finish your food, but i think this is a plus for most people, so i won't. the food is good though. i had the corned beef hash, which was the big chunks of corned beef rather tham minced, which i personally like. it was cooked with potato chunks rather than shredded potatoes, and the onions were big so you could pick them out. it was very tasty, and as i mentioned, huge. the only problem i had with the corned beef was that it could have been a little fattier. don't get me wrong; there was plenty of grease, but just not enough softness on the meat from it. i got hash browns with it, which was the shredded potatoes and it was delicious. so crispy in the right way. the boyf got the gravy and biscuits, which was three whole biscuits and eggs and a homemade sausage. the sausage was very good! also not very fatty, which i like in a sausage but the flavors were different than just a regular sausage patty. the gravy was also great. don't be discouraged by the rundown look of it from the outside. this was such a good find! oh also, don't come here if you're wearing nice clothes. you will smell like delicious grease all day, even if you're only here for ten minutes. you may also wanted to tie your hair up under a hat for the same reason.

Might've been the best fried egg sandwich ever! This is a small, casual diner...the staff was friendly, service was great, and the food did not disappoint. Would most definitely come again!

This definitely wasn't what I was expecting when looking up breakfast options in Napa. Still, I couldn't have been more pleased with the food. Nothing gives you the fuel to spend all day schlepping through wine country like a heaping portion of carbs slathered in trans fat. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a greasy spoon diner if I've ever seen one. The seating is as elusive as the parking, but the one waitress working the joint was kicking ass and taking names, all the while slinging out ginormous gravy laden piles of sustenance. I was impressed with how fast people were served and the calculated chaos with which the waitress went about her business. You won't find any freshly squeezed juice or even a sprinkle of garnish over your plate, but if throwing down some homestyle grub at a VERY reasonable price sounds appealing to you, then you've come to the right place.

This place is so good. Soo good! If you wake up hungry, hungover, or all of the above and you are anywhere near this place I highly recommend it. Huge portions, friendly service. It may be a greasy spoon but the food is cooked in clear view and you know exactly what you're getting. The crowd is as mixed as you could get: locals, tourists, doctors, hunters, hungover high school kids. They don't judge you there. You're there to eat. Sit at the bar for some friendly conversation and to observe the organized chaos of breakfast service they perform so well. Order the corned beef and hash. Its real and its good. Also, they have an amazing breakfast burrito, huevos rancheros, and biscuits and gravy. If you're part of the closing crowd the owner might offer you a hefty shot of tequila to wash down the greasy goodness and get you started on your next hangover. You think I'm joking don't you?

THE CURE FOR YOUR HANGOVER. No matter how much wine tasting you did, this place will cure what ails you! The breakfast burrito, the omelets, and the hash browns are just what you need. Go! now! Before you need more motrin...

  • David G.

An all American grease spoon diner. Good coffee and other fairs. The real treat, though, is the black beans and tortillas in leu of potatoes and toast. A can't miss option.

    (5)
  • Chris W.

Totally unassuming from the divey looking exterior! Definitely a greasy spoon but they have the best diner style breakfast in town! It can get a bit crowded on the weekends but the tables turn pretty fast so it's never really a terrible wait. Portions are generally quite large so come hungry or ready to share.

  • Celeste S.

Had breakfast here yesterday. Was VERY delicious! It's a very unassuming (especially for Napa) little hole in the wall diner. But the food, portions and service were great. And cheap! I had the huevos rancheros and it was very good! Although after seeing the hash browns, I wished I had ordered a breakfast with those! I saw the omelets go by - they were HUGE! Big breakfast style. I'd go back for sure. No question.

An East Coasters paradise! If you grew up in the land of plenty (of Greek Diners that is), this is a culinary oasis awaiting your arrival. Why is it that there are no all-night diners west of the Mississippi? Where are you supposed to eat when: a) you are sub-25 years old and close the bars, or b) you are massively hungover and you need the pure cure of fresh corned beef hash I dream about the fresh made corned beef hash at Soscol Cafe and wake up with a smile. Soscol Cafe is an absolute must stop when heading to or through Napa, leave 30 minutes early for that meeting and stop in for some of the best breakfast food on the planet. Really, just go there.

If you have gel in your hair and drink $5.00 organic coffee drinks with steamed milk and foam then this place is NOT for you. You will hate it and write a 1 star review because you don't "get" place like this. If you like "old school" cafe/diner place with a little "grit" that serve good quality food in good quantities then this place is heaven. This is a working mans breakfast place. It's got a counter and a few booths, you see what they are cooking and you like that. The food is hot, brown and tasty (ok the eggs are yellow but you get the point).

Okay, I'm usually a fine dining type of gal but I was forced to try this place. Totally lives up to the saying looks can be deceiving. I've never actually dined in, always order to-go so that's probably why I can stand the run down building and lack of cleanliness. The food, AMAZING. I'm a breakfast person so everything on the menu hits the spot. The portions are huge and seriously the best breakfast burrito I've EVER had. Last time I went they were closed due to remodeling which is awesome! Hopefully that brings more people in and they can get past the lack of cleanliness. If I tried it, you can!

Great food. Great service. A definite must dine! The huevos ranchero will feed 4. ONly $8 - very execellent! IT's where the locals dine for breakfast. We went on a Friday a.m. so there was no wait, but I understand that on Saturday and Sunday you can wait up to an hour - I would say - Wait... you will not be sorry.

At this hole-in-the-wall little cafe in Napa I found heaven in the form of a fried egg sandwich. Really...I can't stop dreaming about it and am trying to figure out how to get back there for more, but alas I am from Oregon. Maybe I can come up with a recipe similar and create it at home...but doubtful because this sandwich had some kind of magical flavors that I just couldn't pinpoint. Hubby loved his Mexican burrito too. The ambience was great (picture locals in jeans at the counter, families in the booths), everything was clean, and the staff was super nice. If I had to do it over again I'd order the home fries instead of hash browns with the sandwich -the hash browns were pretty standard and after the egg sandwich I wanted more magic. And breakfast all day - that just makes everything better. Enjoy!

This is a little gem! It would not be a trip to Napa without stopping here!!! Delicious! They do breakfast all day and lunch. Great diner food!! The best breakfast sandwich I have ever had! And our to go food looked so good I almost had to take a bite of it after eating all of my breakfast!

Total dive. All of the food was good but not great, and not among the best dives I've been to. Good enough to warrant another visit ordering some different things, but I didn't feel it is worth all of these 5 star reviews.

Waffle House kinda vibe. Ladies are nice but there are no healthy options. Spinach egg white omelette was ok but it said red peppers and came with green and was under a bed of oil on my plate. Water tastes like toilet water & they were loudly banging on something the whole time we were eating in the back, it was so nerve racking!!!!!! Have consideration for people trying to peacefully enjoy their meal! :/

This place is amazing! Its totally the local breakfast and lunch spot you want to find. We found it based on its great reviews and they were right. The place has the usual breakfast items like omelettes, sandwiches and other things you expect to see on the menu. I think what sets them apart from the rest is the quality and quantity of their food. All the ingredients were fresh and there was plenty of them. We ate as much as we can and still had left over for the next day :-) This place is super affordable too. You can't go wrong. Hope you enjoy your visit.

On the other side of the tracks in more way than one. I walked over here from the Weston while on a recent company offsite for breakfast. As others have noted Soscol is a perfect greasy spoon from the food and the cleanliness. The homemade hash I ordered was very tasty. The potatoes were slightly too chunky and I prefer cubed vs strands of meat... but overall it was a nice way to start the morning. Most of the other patrons look to be mechanics and workers from the nearby businesses. On the downside... the restaurant and in particular the kitchen was a bit dirtier than I would've liked. I saw water leaking, lots of rust, and perhaps most bothersome was the dirty mug my coffee came in. I'd still come back but would love it even more if they tidy up a bit.

5 stars in a greasy diner sort of way. If you get a chance, sit at the counter at the far right... right behind the cooks, right above the toaster and 5 feet from the dishwasher/big chunk of frozen chicken thawing under water. If you like watching sausage-making, this is where you want to be. If you're afraid of the dark places that exist in restaurant kitchens, then grab a booth. I had the corned beef hash and I never, ever order it anywhere for fear of a ruddy, pasty, starchy mess... but here it was a ton of corned beef cut into strips, mixed with well-cooked onions and potatoes - all identifiable and distinct. Served with awesome hash browns, 2 eggs and gratuitous toast (aggressively buttered!). Coffee was the same horrible coffee all these places serve, but enough sugar and cream and it doesn't matter so much. I probably would have given one star less if I sat in a booth.... I'm happy I didn't.

Decor: Homey Service: Attentive, full of local character Atmosphere: Colorful. Mix of locals and savvy tourists. All inclusive crowd. Crowded. But everyone was happily eating. Cozy, rather than claustrophobic. Food: OMG Coffee: Turpentine in a cup This is a dive of a diner for the locals, not a tourist destination. Don't expect California fusion cuisine, or even New American twists on old classics. This is just the old classics. Breakfast foods: Hotcakes. Omelettes. Biscuits and gravy. Sides of country fried potatoes. Sausages. I don't know about their lunches, but their breakfasts are excellent. Too much food to finish, unless you're going to spend the next twelve hours working in the fields, but so very tasty. On the menus, there's an option of potatoes or beans and tortillas. When the waiter came to our table, I guess he looked at me and decided "out of town tourist" and asked if I wanted country style or hash browned potatoes. I asked if the beans and tortillas were not available, and he assured me they were... and I am so glad I asked. So here's my top tip: GET THE BEANS AND TORTILLAS. The beans were so flavorful, my wife stole most of mine. Actually, less than half. But I would have gladly ordered a large bowl of those beans if it was on the menu. Two bowls. They must have been seasoned with some kind of magic drug. I like potatoes just fine, but damn, those beans! So much better than potatoes! If you don't need the caffeine, and are particular about your coffee, avoid the coffee. It's truck-stop swill. Not even all that strong. But it was fine for adding cream to (they provided half-and-half) and chasing food with. Just don't expect cafe quality. The rest of our Napa experience was pretty decent, but there was no particular place we stayed or ate on this trip that I would go out of my way to revisit. Soscol, though... I'm tempted to stop there even when travelling within the county. I'll definitely be back.

This place was not a disappointment. Found it when driving down the street to ihop. Glad we decided to stop by here after we saw the huge line out the door. I had the chili omelette which was delicious. If youre in the area...I'd highly recommend checking it out for a nice brunch/breakfast.

Hubby and I stopped in here for a quick brunch on our way back from Napa valley to Fremont. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here! If you're looking for really good diner food, this place is where it's at. I ordered the hotcakes with fresh seasonal fruit and a side order of (two) biscuits and gravy and a green tea. He ordered the Napa omelette with black beans, a corn tortilla and coffee. (We also both had water.) So good! We really, really loved our food. The portions were quite generous and very tasty. Oh, that gravy... So, so good! Big fluffy pancakes. I also helped myself to quite a few spoonfuls of his black beans. Their food tastes like it's made with love. Excellent, attentive service. The staff was really friendly and coffee and water were kept full for the duration. We will certainly come here again when in the area.

I've been in the SF -Napa area for about 5 days now and dined at some really nice places including some pretty high end restaurants. The Mexican Omelette this morning at Soscol Cafe is far and away the best meal I've had.

If your hungry and you don't have to worry about your weight, colesteral or your heart...then go. They give plenty greasy food...I love these kind of joints. I had the corned beef hash...only problem was it was very tough. I was sure that it had not been boiled or oven cooked. They cut it up and fry it raw. I made a suggestion them to boil it first then cut it up and a quick fry in a pan and it won't as tough as they serve it now...I will check back to see if they used my suggestion.

Wow!!! Yummy!! It's a dive (looks like a white box from the outside and it's pretty small inside with about 6 booths) but they have great food. I loved my huevos rancheros! The best I've ever had. They fried the tortilla and put the eggs etc on top. So good! Oh and the portions are huge! I had my husband help me finish it. Every time I roll through napa, I'm making a stop here for breakfast.

The restaurant is not hard to miss, but it looks like parking is limited, so you might have to park out on the street if it gets busy. Upon entering the cafe, I noticed how cute and tiny it was. However, it might be a pain in the ass to get a seat if it gets busy, but luckily, it wasn't busy today. Whew! I was greeted with a smile by a lovely waitress. She was prompt and attentive with giving me my food and water. I then ordered two hot cakes and ham. The hot cakes were nice and fluffy, but you really need to add a lot of syrup because it lacked some flavor. The ham on the other hand was pretty decent. It was easy to cut through the meat. The check was delivered quickly, and as soon as I asked for a box, I noticed a tiny bug on it. Yikes! I give the place three and a half stars because of that minor incident.

    (3)
  • Jesus M.

Awful, no taste and was a total failure on breakfast. Pancakes were soggy, and corned beef hash was cut up wrong to where meat was chewy and lacking flavor. Service was good and had the feeling of a diner but that's it. Will not come back.

Visiting Napa last week, my husband and I were in search of a good breakfast before starting our day of wine tasting. Based on their Yelp reviews we decided to check out "Soscol Cafe" If your not careful you'll drive right pass this little cafe but DON'T let the appearance fool you! As small as this place is...they've got Great Breakfast! Looking at all the plates served around us, all their portions are BIG! (Might I say they all looked super tasty too) We decided to order the Machaca to share and it was packed with flavor and very delicious. Instead of the salad we ordered hash-browns and they were cooked to perfection (right the right amount of crisp) Better than the food were their prices and great service! The only reason I gave them 4 stars vs 5 was due to the wait because this place is soooo small you have to wait outside until something opens up and that can be a while if they are packed. Definitely check them out!

I just moved to town, and kept passing this place thinking THAT CANT BE A REAL RESTAURANT. But kept seeing it packed in the mornings!?! So checked on here, saw the reviews - had a little hangover - off we went. Hands down THE best GIANT hit the spot, make you feel better on a Sunday morning breakfast I have had in years! Machacaa is KILLER (they make their own chorizo!) Huevos Rancheros is also KILLER. Fresh pico de gallo. Nom nom nom. Even the coffee is good! Service is FABULOUS. AND- do NOT be fooled by the crappy exterior- it's IMMACULATE INSIDE! Now my GO TO place with my constant flow of houseguests. High end dinner and wine, next day we hit Soscol cafe!!

CLOSED!!! As in shut down. Thanks for update, yelp! The reviews as of six days ago said how great this place was. So, we ventured off our path, ten minutes out of the way, and the place was totally deserted. No lights, no cars, no nada! So they either took the day off or are closed for business. Either way, super disappointing for weary travelers in need of some good eats!

This is a fantastic hole in the wall, stick-to-your ribs place for breakfast, perfect before heading out to wine tastings all day. Down home cooking with a great selection and warm, friendly service. We loved it!

Today I came in around 11 & had a breakfast burrito. Delicious! I would call the place a hole in the wall. They have large portion sizes. There were about 6 table booths & they were all full during the time I went.

Always the best place for a great breakfast. Everything is a good price and the chef is quick! The potato skins is awesome just have someone else to help you eat it cause it's huge. My fave is the Napa omelet and the pancakes, did I say the portions where hugs cause yeah massive but oh sooo good!

This place is really small it can seat a total of 35 people. 6 four seat booths and 11 counter stool. I had the homemade corn beef and hash. It was one of the better ones that I've had so far in my corned beef hash eating experience. It looks like a dive but great food

  • Erin S.

I have serious feelings about biscuits and gravy...and this place does em right! Breakfast burrito is a hit as well. Small, hole in the wall place that's busy for breakfast but hardly a wait. As you walk in, someone is on their way out. Great service, great food, excellent prices.

This spot gets 4 stars out of 5 for the greasy spoon! We ended up here on a whim and my Goodness I am glad we did. Biscuits and gravy? Oh, so delicious! Corned beef and hash? Totally fresh and well done! Eggs? Moist and fluffy! Service? Speedy and polite. Why not 5 greasy spooned stars? The coffee was just ok. But I'd go back in a heartbeat.

DO NOT JUDGE THIS PLACE BY THE LOOKS. Most amazing food I've ever in my life. I'm only here from NY 2 more days and I'll be eating breakfast there the next two mornings. Everything tastes so fresh, Everything is full of flavor. I had the breakfast burrito changed my life. Only thing this place lacks is some personality needs some music on just to set the place on fire. I'm from NY so I think I'm just so used to some chaos lol

If you want and over priced, Yuppie filled location with small portions Napa Valley joints. Get back in your car and keep driving. This place is not for you. What you can expect is a friendly staff service up fresh great food. This dive looking place is a must stop if you are in the area. Only complaint was that my wife said that the mound of bacon was slightly over cooked. No big deal it still a mound of bacon and one can never go wrong with that.

When i was in Napa last year, September 2013, my wife and i had breakfast heree everyday.. it was amazing.. So amazing, that im still thinking about it 7 months later. I couldnt rememebr the name - i just rememebred that it was the same name as the street - so i yelped "Best Breakfast Napa" and it popped right up. If you are in the area - make this your jump off spot for the day - trust me!

Really great breakfast. Portions are quite large. I ordered and loved the Machaca which had a rainbow of great flavors. I had the salad with that, and was very pleased with it's freshness, and the ranch was quite good. My girlfriend had the Napa, which was fresh but lacked flavor. Her hash-browns were excellent! Good consistent service, and fair prices.

Amazing Breakfast place. Stopped by during a motorcycle ride across the state. Read the reviews on Yelp. Breakfast was phenomenal. Genorous portions for a decent price. It's a total hole in the wall. Unless you read the reviews you wouldn't stop there. Staff is very friendly and prompt. Locals for the most part. No annoying lines of tourists.

Perfect breakfast place to make you feel like a local. The chilaquiles was incredible. There was so much food, I left with half of my plate. My wife had a spinach, avacado, and pepper Jack cheese omelette, with corn tortilla and beans instead of hash browns (unheard of in Chicagoland). She liked it a lot but said it needed a little more salt (most things do for her). Coffee was good (not the strongest) and the service was good. It's a small joint but makes you feel at home. The tab was around 24 with our two plates and two coffees. I'd definitely go here again, especially after a night of wine drinking.

Big Ole Mexican-American Breakfast! Machaca lasted us all day long through to dinner. Nothing fancy about this place. Straight up quality working breakfast with some neat little twists that make it memorable. The booths are small. The plates are platters. The smells are tantalizing. The Service is friendly and quick. Park around the corner or in the lot next door. Not for everyone, but if you're down to earth you'll love it. I look forward to our next visit. It's definitely a place I would recommend to friends visiting Napa. Cash Only!

Old-school, divey, greasy spoon. If you're looking for something quaint or upscale, this ain't it.

It has like old style diner food and it's a popular place for breakfast and lunch. Pretty good and good size portions. Not bad pancakes. Wasn't a fan of the ham. It's very small so there might be a wait depending on the timing.

Woke up at 4:30am to turn the wind machines on and decided to hit up Soscal's Cafe for breakfast at 6:13am. They were closed. I thought you opened at 6am?

It's like a breakfast factory in here. Everything on the menu looks amazing!! Forget the decor and ambiance, it's all about the food!!

Great place for hangover food! If you want anything healthy, this is not the spot. I had the Napa omelette and my boyfriend had the Machaca. He rated his food 5 out of 5. The Napa omelet had chicken that was dry and I wasn't excited about how greasy it was. The home fries made up for it. Coffee was weak. Overall, this place is a decent dive breakfast spot that's cheap. And come hungry!

Saw the reviews on yelp and decided to try. Not disappointed. Others say 'it wasn't clean' Boo Hoo, then go to your yuppy restaurant... you don't belong here. We visit Napa from Capitola at least 3 times a year and tried this place last time we were there. We sat at the bar and watched our breakfast being made. Inexpensive and good food. Careful on the portions, quite large... you may want to split. Have the biscuits and gravy with sausage.... It will not disappoint. Will visit every visit from now on.

I ordered the one pancake, eggs & bacon. They never brought out my bacon had to ask twice for the fruit, never gave me syrup. Finally when my fruit came out it was over ripe and couldn't eat it. It was so sweltering hot in the place we all couldn't wait to get out of here. Not recommended.

Oh yes please. I haven't seen such huge portions for such sensible prices. Tiny hole in the wall but packed with delicious choices and friendly faces. I would go for the corned beef hash or any of the omelettes!

Catching up on reviews. Look, I love breakfast, but I hated this. It is an unassuming diner, which i can appreciate. I understand what it is and what to expect. I understand it is not five star dining and should not be judged as such. However, I just flat out did not like it. I ordered the mile high biscuits and gravy with sausage and eggs. It was right under 10.00, so for Napa it is an excellent value and tons of food. I just couldn't eat it. I choked down two of the four biscuits, they were average and the gravy was average. The sausage was a big old nasty slab of mystery meat that was burnt on the outside and sitting in a pool of grease on my plate. The eggs were all brown and nasty from the dirty flat top. Not only that but this place could use a good cleaning, perhaps a little sprucing up. Maybe get rid of the falling off the wall accolades from 2004. My husband got the huevos rancheros and it was huge. He ate it, and liked it. I think it was the quantity that he likes. To me it just looked like a giant pile of beans, tostada shell, eggs, tomatoes, guacamole, and sour cream.

BRING YOUR APPETITE! And be preparted to possibly wait a little bit for a table o rfor counter space. The food was delish! It came out STEAMING, but, it wasn't really steaming hot. I don't know why that was. Anyway, my huevos rancheros was the BEST I have ever had to date. It was a monstrosity of beans, tortilla, egg, sour cream, guacamole, pico and cheese. There was NO way I could finish it all, which was a shame. Don't let the exterior of this place fool you.

GREAT hangover food. BIG PORTIONS so be prepared. Also be prepared for a long wait as it is a very small location.

Smaller greasy spoon diner which is not the cleanest but awesome food makes up for it. Omelet was HUGE! With good quality ham and eggs cooked perfectly. Corn beef hash was the best I've EVER had!

I've been in this diner a few times and maybe just bad timing today that my pancakes obviously were made from watery batter. Maybe the servers were tired too that nobody offered me coffee refills. A lot of flies hovering around today ; 2 is ok but 3 visiting our table tells me something :) I'll come back and hopefully will see improvement.

The cafe smelled like a diesel truck's exhaust inside. We didn't stay long enough to try the food.

This place is small, greasy, very busy, and ultra affordable! Giant breakfast portions for a few bucks and it all tastes good. I like the biscuits and gravy; I'm also a fan of the chicken fried steak. I want to try other break spots in Napa, but I keep coming back to the Socol Cafe.

Napa's Greasy Spoon. Tiny diner with 6 booths and additional counter seating. This is our breakfast spot after a good night with too much wine. The food is consistently good and large portions. I recommend the scrambles or the biscuits in gravy. The prices are very reasonable. Not a fancy place, just a good easy place to shake out the cobwebs.

This place is the hangover cure in Napa! I cannot count the mornings/afternoons I have waited out front of this place for a table post party night. Once seated the service is prompt and you will have a large cup of coffee in front of you in moments. The food takes 10-15 minutes at most to get to the table and portion sizes are huge. The omelets are amazing. Its very very small you cant come with a large crowd. No more than you and 2-3 of your friends. If you have to wait outsidefor a table, I promise it is worth it. This place is a hidden treasure in Napa

Good breakfast and better atmosphere. I had a white egg veggie omelette with home fries and my daughter had a build your own omelette with a side order of fruit. Pleasant service and the coffee was hot. We both thought the food was a little greasy which keeps me from rating it higher. It looks like this is a regular spot for locals.

This place is a definite little "dive" and looks kinda scary from the outside. Once you maneuver your way in and get settled into one of a few booths you're greeted by very pleasant and efficient staff. Looking around, yeah, the place is rundown but damn it's clean.... Very sanitary and spic n span! Well phew! The kitchen is within your view and those cooks know what they're doing. I ordered an omelet and the other kind of potatoes? than hash-browns. Omelet was too big for me but would satisfy any hearty appetite and there were plenty of potatoes. Not sure how they were prepared but I didn't like them, I wanted to but they were (I hate to say it) BAD :o( The two people I was with ordered Huevos Rancheros and said that they were good however there were "too many canned black beans" on the plate. All of us agreed that the coffee was good. So I will return and order something smaller or maybe share a plate. I have a feeling that the regular hash-browns would be tasty and every breakfast I saw being delivered to other patrons looked good. Looking forward to updating this review, I have a feeling I'll be adding another star or two!

The place is a great greasy spoon! The food is great. I had the french toast which was really good. It was thick taste bread with just the right amount of egg. Within the group we had biscuits and gravy (gravy is amazing), and three custom made omelets. The sausage they serve are patties the size of a 3/4 lbs burger. Everything was good, large servings and the prices are very reasonable. I would highly recommend you check this place out. Just not to often it might be bad for your health...:)

Killer portions! This place get packed fast. We had very little time today so we had biscuits and gravy side and the eggs with potatoes and bacon. Very good, homestyle pride. Grab a seat if you can.

This is a hidden gem in Napa. We stopped here for food on our last day and had breakfast. I had the Huevos Rancheros. My companion had the Corned Beef Hash. Both were incredible. The Corned Beef Hash was authentic - no canned stuff here! The portions were huge. We couldn't even finish. Make sure you plan a visit.

They give you a lot of quite marginal food. The breakfast burrito was actually quite terrible, you don't have a bacon egg cheese and black bean burrito on your menu then serve it with ham, black beans were not fully cooked and the guac was runny. The worst part was leaving smelling like grease

Soscol Cafe is the legendary "greasy spoon" of Napa. It's quite different from all of Napa's ritzy places--such as the vegetarian Ubuntu with its yoga, or the French Laundry upvalley. It's a place for sitting down with the morning paper, drinking some coffee, and watching the world go by. It's very small. The huevos rancheros are OK (the ones at Frida's are better) The coffee was so odd that the aftertaste lingered looong after I had eaten breakfast. To make matters worse, the open kitchen didn't look that clean, and one of the cooks had a gross-looking skin condition. Unlike one of Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, the service was fast and the place was crowded. It's tiny. When it comes to Napa's greasy spoons, I prefer cleaner ones such as the one out by Cuttings Wharf and Butter Cream. Butter Cream is immaculate--and the breakfasts are so big you might as well skip lunch.

This place is a pretty typical diner - some booths, a bar with stools in front of the griddle, dark wood decor, etc etc. If you like your breakfast sausage spicy, go here for sure! If not, well, there is plenty else to eat, and all that we had was good, and reasonably cheap. The price for cheapness is, of course, the $1 sharing fee which you can read about in the other reviews, plus a charge on any and all substitution.

    (3)
  • K L.

If BIG portions of food is what you're after, this place delivers in spades. It's a tiny but typical greasy spoon diner, not very clean or well-kept but the staff is friendly and you get a lot of food for your money. It's a favorite with locals who like to hang out here long after they've finished eating. Besides the abundant portions (enormous omelets, huge slabs of bacon, massive amounts of potatoes, etc.) the food is typical diner food with some south of the border flair. The food is also really greasy and I found it bland unless you want to smoother everything with the various hot sauces available.

The main pic is of the corned beef hash. After a plate of which I was tired from chewing SO much! It is obviously hand-made, which normally I would be thrilled about. In this case, the _chef_ cuts the brisket into 1"-2" strips THE WRONG WAY. So the meat turns out chewy and tough--not how corned beef hash should be. (Corned beef made correctly, should fall apart or could be easily shredded with a fork.) Portion sizes were great. Service was good. For my $$, much better to be had at Butter Cream, Gilwoods, Black Bear Diner (if you dare) or Lane 33 Cafe (Ya! At the bowling alley!). The only allure I see for locals is that tourists wouldn't dare set foot in here. And a lot of locals tend to use that as a measuring stick. Too bad. They're missing out on some good stuff (elsewhere).

Tons of food, good price, friendly people. This place is divey - but worthy! It reminds me of Star Seeds Cafe in Austin, TX. I *heart* the chicken fried steak!!! I only wished they were open for dinner! This place would go crazy!

YAY Yelp! We wouldn't have found this place without you! We would have driven past Soscol without stopping if we hadn't been looking for it - it's tiny and not notable really in any way. The interior is pretty shabby so we were very skeptical, until our food came out and we had our first bites. AMAZING. I had a dish with black beans, green chilies, scrambled eggs, homemade guacamole and salsa... it was not something I would usually order but I haven't stopped thinking about it since - it was the best breakfast I've ever had. My boyfriend had the biscuits and gravy, again, not something he was usually order and he LOVED it. He's been trying to track down a comparable dish since and hasn't found anything that comes close. Everything we had was super fresh and so delicious. Next time I'm in Napa area I'll definitely be returning.

I have to give this place 5 stars. They have like 6+ different types of hot sauce (and I am a hot sauce fiend). Don't be jaded by the small shack-like building, I promise that you won't be disappointed when you get your food (or at least smell the food from the doorway)... It is very tiny inside but it really is the stereotypical diner with the boots and the stools by the cook. I had the huevos rancheros... it is SOOOOOOOOO AMAZING. I think the locals around me were getting annoyed at how I was constantly praising the food and orgasming... (omg the food is sooooooooo good). Think of tangy cool salsa with the creamy texture of guacamole mixed with a crispy tortilla shell on a bed of warm black beans. Now imagine tasting each of those sensations in your MOUTH. Every bite, I made sure to try and get all of those separate flavors and omgoodness it was HEAVEN. The coffee cups are large and the coffee beans are perfectly roasted. I could not be happier with the setup of the different types of jam, sugar for coffee, hot sauce (6), ketchup, and PEPPER (that comes out evenly... not like those shakers that don't work). I am so glad that this place is far away from where I live because otherwise, I'd be knocking back the huevos rancheros every weekend and my waist size would double. I will definitely come back here whenever I am near Napa for a wine tasting or two. Although it would be great for them if they had a larger restaurant, I really enjoy the small diner feel..it makes the service that much better and much more homey. I LOVE BRUNCH!

If you are looking for very good pancakes and omelets, HUGE portions, very friendly service and you don't care about the atmosphere this is the place to go. We loved it, i had the egg white omelet with a ton of veggies, my daughter had a huge pancake that they shaped like mickey and my husband had the denver omelet, all were terrific.

Want lots of food for a decent price? Are you tired of having your wallet vacuumed out by Napa? Do you like to support local business? Try this "hole in the wall" breakfst & lunch place. I had the home made corned beef hash with eggs & home fries. There was so much, I could barely eat half of it. I don't normally like breakfst food, but the corned beef was good, my eggs were perfectly cooked, & to my delight there were 5 or 6 different types of hot sauces on the table. My husband chose the Napa omellete with grilled-chicken, mushrooms, avocado, red sweet peppers & green onions & cheese. He found it tasty, but a little dry. Nothing that a bit of catchup & hot sauce couldn't cure. Whatch out for the habanero sauce. A little goes a long way. We'll be back! Great prompt a curteous service also.

it's seems the best meals are in the "hole in the wall" type of businesses! there's not exception to the rule when it comes to Soscol cafe.. breakfast is delicious. I had the napa omelette and it is better than any omelette I've had in napa. I also would recommend they're scramble it's good as well!!!

woke up one morning... took the g/f to Napa to the weekend and decided to grab some grease for breakfast total hangover classic diner style. Totally cramped in this little tiny diner. This place was AMAZING.. I got the heuvos rancheros and it was hands down the best I've ever had. So delicious. Wish I took photos and was more dedicated to yelp! only downfall with the place was: leaving we smelled like a greasy diner.

Amazing biscuits and gravy, good enough to make a Texas girl swoon! It's a very small establishment with a short bar for single diners and only 6 booths for groups so get there early or you might have to wait. The food is to die for though, authentic greasy spoon feel with a look at the non-wine side of Napa. Definitely stop by and prepare your tummy right for a day full of wine tasting!!!

In my opinion you will not find a better breakfast or a better value for your breakfast in Napa. This place is AWESOME! The food is old school greasy spoon style diner food. The perfect place to go after a hard night of partying. If you need to continue your alcohol consumption from the night before you can have a beer with your steak and eggs too! My personal favorite is the Mexican omelet but everything is good there from the breakfast burrito to the linguisa and eggs to the waffles and French toast! Do yourself a favor if you haven't been and go!

If you're looking for some great, fresh food, stop here! I'm from Michigan, and was craving a good "greasy spoon"; this was much better than I expected. Don't let the outside deter you, the food is fresh, loaded with authentic flavor. It's also reasonable; share whatever you order! Enjoy!!!

I was here last weekend for breakfast. The food was mediocre and I actually can't even remember what omelet I had since it was forgettable. Breakfast is my favorite meal, and the food was just blah. The portions were big and the food was cheap and the service was ok but I wasn't impressed.

Good ole Soscol Cafe, I've been coming here for years. I used to think it was the best breakfast place ever but over time it has lost it's allure and the quality of the food has taken a dip. Still, you can order the breakfast special which usually is a chorizo scramble with potatoes, toast and coffee for $6...not a bad deal. It's a true locals place and run by Javier, a big guy who kinda reminds me of Shrek. Chicken fried steak used to be awesome but last time it really looked and tasted like it started out as a frozen patty delivered by a semi truck at night. Still, for local atmosphere and a solid if not necessarily dazzling experience it's one of the few places that will be around for quite some time to come.

This place is not very big, just a small white buidling with a blue sign. This place was packed when we visted on a sunday morning about 10:30, we sat at a both that was woble and small..he he but the service was great and the food was good. I had french toast and bacon, the toast was big TEXAS style and they did not cheat me out of bacon..I want to say I got 4 or 5 pieces, whcih was more than you get anywhere else. My husband had bisquets and gravey he said it was great!

"No offense, but I think you guys will be needing this." Those were the few words our server at the Soscal Cafe told us after dropping at our table the biggest burger we have ever laid our eyes on. "The Hawaiian Burger", stacked with a fat slab of beef, polish sausage, pinneaple slice, tomato, lettuce, pickles and some juicy condiments, is a must have when visiting this humble litlte cafe off the Soscal Ave in Napa! I was speechless after fnishing the behemoth of a burger. I left with a big smile as i rubbed my stomach with delight. :) Based on only the burger and a couple peaks at the other customer's plates, we could see that all the portions are massive for a very reasonable price.

  • Nick R.

Best food ever wonderful for breakfast and so good for lunch they have old fashion crinkle cut fries real meats including linguisa and chorizzo. My suggestion for what to order would have to be the special which is usually an egg skillet of some sort but don't let that fool you, because with a nickname like the greasy spoon they will impress. Nick and Ester and the rest of Javier's multilingual staff are wonderful down to earth easy going people and some of my close freinds.

  • Stefan A.

Totally better than usual greasy spoon. I dug the hash browns, and the huevos ranchero were remarkably good. Little details like the giant coffee mugs concide well with the extra yummy diner chow. We've only been there once - I'll have to check out more of the Mexican breakfast items, which looked especially good.

"Gives the term greasy spoon new meaning. My wife and I split a Napa omelette this morning. It was all one could expect and more. Xlnt service, great taste, fresh ingredients. Not a cute and charming place; but the real deal."

  • Mark F.

This place is exactly what you'd expect - good, hearty diner food served in huge portions. I had the corned beef hash, my wife had the breakfast burrito. Everything was good, and the salsa they served with the burrito was delicious. Don't go here expecting it to look immaculate - it's a local diner. We sat up at the counter, and it was fun to watch them cook.

Yes you WILL wreck of the grease when you leave. That is the truth. Was there on Sunday and i was served heaps of food as was the man. I had the ham and cheese omelet. NO joke, to much for one person. The man had pancakes, eggs and sausage. I swear to god I have no idea where he puts it, as I took mine to go w/ us. But this a cool local spot in Napa. As a side note, i hawk eyed the french fries and they were just plan bag fries, which in my mind is a turn off.

Soscol cafe is my favorite breakfast spot ever. It is a true napa locals institution. There are a few cons; It is tiny, yes there are flies in the window sile, you always have to wait for a table... BUT the food is O_M_G. The best huevos rancheros I have ever had. Every time I am in Napa its a mandatory breakfast pit stop. I cannot even begin to put into word how awesome the food is. Two Words: JUST GO.

  • Don H.

It's been awhile since I last ate at the cafe and I was happy to see that the place is still doing well. The portion are huge and the food is great. If you are used to traditional corn beef hash or country fried steak breakfasts, you must keep an open mind regarding the way they make theirs. It's fresh and different, and it may not look like something you would order but they are popular dishes at the cafe.

  • Layna W.

This looks like a hole in the walk type of place but so far after dining at several $$ places in Napa, this is my favorite & so economical. They leave all the windows open in the morning so even on an expected high of 80 for the day u will need a jacket. The breakfast burrito was the best burrito I have ever had. The coffee is really good too. The staff is really friendly & helpful. Great place for breakfast or brunch & I want to go back every morning during my stay here in napa.

  • Johanna D.

pros: homemade corned beef hash delish home fried potatoes lots of food great value cons: a few flies circling around our table we smelled like grease after leaving overall, nothing fancy, but great homemade food for great value. you're definitely eating with the locals here! we are definitely coming back next time we're in napa!!

  • Wendy M.

Small grubby diner, huge portions, food was good. Loved the Huevos Rancheros and my husband's omelet was massive. Nice change of pace from all the fancy Napa stuff. I would only say don't get the fruit bowl- $5.50 for melon and 2 piei]ces of pineapple seemed kind of lame.

  • Steve S.

Ate here before a wine tasting tour, and I'm glad I did. I had the huevos rancheros and I had to stop 3/4 of the way through because of the impending bus trip. This was one of the best breakfast meals I've ever eaten. Crispy tortilla shell COVERED with black beans, two eggs over easy, cooked perfectly, homemade guacamole, sour cream, and cheese. The portion was ridiculous, and I think it all cost around $8, which was the best buy of the trip to Napa. Don't know when I'll be out there again, but this will be the first breakfast I eat.

  • Jessie M.

Yeah, baby.... yeah. This is a super good breakfast place and you have to keep your eyes peeled or you'll miss it. One of my friends that is a napa native just found this place 2 months ago, and properly reamed me for not dragging his sorry ass there sooner. Sorry, dude! Thought you knew about it! And how could you not... This is THE place to go if you are tired of all of the fancy schmancy, $28 a person, dress up before you go, breakfast places. You can seriously wear your pj's and no one would take a second glance. In other words; this is the real napa, people. For $6-$12 you will get enough food to feed an army. And did I mention how good it is? The huevos rancheros is the best in the county, the breakfast burrito will have you cramming your stomach to try and finish it, the omelets look like they are made with at least a dozen eggs... Basically you get a heart attack on every plate. But I can't help it, I'm here every sunday. Just go before 10am and you won't have a problem being seated, after that, there is usually a line out the door. Don't think mine and my boyfriends tab has ever come out to more than $17. That's for 2 people, folks, in napa valley... who would have guessed? oh yeah, and order a side of their black beans and tortillas. so, so tasty * *it is cash only, but it's cheap, so don't worry about it

Homemade cornbeef hash : f'in phenomenal!! French toast was good too, I just wish it wasn't drenched in melted butter. Perfect, typical greasy diner food, don't expect anything else. Very good for breakfast, it was just what we were looking for!!!

Good place, typical diner style food made in a small venue, service was average and the food tasted good. Good if you don't want to spend much but want decent food.

This place is as advertised. Yelpers you did not let us down. I had the biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and bacon. My wife had the breakfast burrito. Both were excellent with generous portions. The wait staff was attentive and gracious. It's a true greasy spoon of a joint. My clothes smelled like the place long after I was gone. Awesome!

Greasy Spoon= Soscol Cafe. If you want a hearty breakfast with none of the frills, this is your place. One of the best breakfast spots in the world. Bring your appetite. The food speaks for itself, don't expect anything else.

The best hangover, afternoon-sleep-inducing breakfast in Napa. The breakfast burrito's actually work like a morning/afternoon after pill, soaking up debacherous regret from the previous night...and I never got pregnant! They pre-butter the toast and english muffins which are awesome, and their ice tea will refresh even the most dehydrated. I almost always get the burrito which comes with guacamole, sour cream, and fresh chopped salsa mix plus the best home fries on the planet but their specials are amazing also. It is a bit bright inside, but don't worry if you have a alcolheadache they don't mind if you wear your sunglasses throughout the entire meal. Their food is so good I have considered bulimia as a serious solution to realize my desire to eat their everyday and still be an active member of society. The only two things that trip me up are the early closing time of 2pm and their only accepting of cash policy. For all the food two people can eat expect to spend $23-25 including tip.

a wonderful greasy spoon. worth every second shaved off of your life. they also make a made napa steak sandwich. unfortunately this place doesnt accept plastic and closes at 2 pm.

lucked out when friends took us here for breakfast. it was a nice change from all the fancy food and high prices in napa. this is a small and friendly family place. the portions are worth withstanding the greasy smells. perfect place when you're on the road! i plan on returning.

My favorite is the tourists I recently met here, up for a weekend without the kids, from San Clemente in their silver convertible benz pealing out of the parking lot next to the Bell Products Steel manufacturer as if they were tearing away from some SoCal Hills episode and a camera crew at their heels. Was here most recently on the Fourth of July, guess they are open on holidays, with my free loading ex boyfriend. But I digress, he just wanted a vacation. Okay anyway - I love this place and while it's a hole in the wall greasy spoon, I'm a classy and fabulous Napa native who fled to SF and am sorry to say I tainted one bit of my life, even Napa's greasy spoon with his presence! I typically head to Soscol cafe with my Dad as he's a cash carrier and Soscol Cafe only accepts cash. I've never had lunch, only breakfast but the portions are huge and the restaurant small! I love their potatoes, omelets and usually split something. Their breakfast burrito was great and I truly appreciate any place that you can sit at the bar and overlook your food being cooked, see every bowl and measuring spoon tetris-ed in its place and meet the occasional tourist who just heard this was a great place and thought they'd try it out on their way back to where they belong - Southern California!

After our first dining experience here I would have given this 5 stars. The Huevos Rancheros were amazing!! However, the next morning we returned because our first experience was so good only to be greatly disappointed. We both got the corned beef hash. This meat had to be a horrible cut: stringy, fatty, rubbery. Gross. The home fries were great, but those are hard to screw up. We also split a side of Chorizo which was flavorless, dry and greasy. Stick with the Mexican dishes and you should be fine.

  • Mint L.

The only downfall of this place is that it's a small tucked away diner with limited space so if you have a big party it may be difficult to get a table. Food was good. I had the chorizo but maybe a sandwich wouldn't be better the chorizo was more like plain hamburger.

5 Star for Breakfast. The Best Pancakes in a 500 Miles from Los Angeles. It's a small diner that masters Breakfast they way it should be done. It's not a High Line place to go but the food is the best for breakfast than any 5 Star Hotel. The Lunch is really good if you like Hamburgers and Sandwiches. If The Food Channel was to come here for a segment it would change the place to be well known. But who cares the Breakfast is all that matters better than any Wine Hotel in all of Napa. Just wish it was here in Los Angeles.

Not good! Really I have no idea where the rest of these people reviewing eat at we only entered this place because the reviews were good...the corn beef hash is horrible doesn't resemble any kind of hash I've ever eaten if you like strips of mystery meat & strips of onion running eggs bad coffee & the stomach cramps that follow then this is GREASY SPOON for you!

Just perfect for a Breakfast before work. I love how small it is and how easy it is for you to get help from the server. There's no place I'd rather be than here for a good and quick breakfast.

A good giant diner breakfast. Very much a spot for locals, the hard working folks of Napa. If your looking for the classic American small business dinner then this is it. Great corn beef hash.

A really good breakfast deal. The Huevos Racheros was very good. The chili omelette was delicious, but quite runny. My tomato juice (v8) was frozen. They forgot to serve the guacamole with our Napa omelette. That said, for the price and quality we give the place high marks,

Very tiny inside! Service was outstanding! They even gave me a fat discount just being nice . Meñu was small but had all the essentials. I Had the Mexican omelette. Tasted good but nothing great. Glad to see they have Cholula hot sauce!

This place reminds me of my uncles diner in SF. It's small, original, and a mom & pops diner. This place is not fancy and may turn off many visitors whose all about being fancy in Napa. Their food are large in portions and the cooks are feets away from you manning the grill in a very unified orchestrated manner. I ordered the steak and eggs - steak cooked perfectly medium rare, eggs are nicely done in an over easy fashion, and fries were okay, could of been crunchier. Overall, I will come back for that down home feel. Enjoy!

Too much wine the day/evening before? In need of a greasy meal the day after? COME TO SOSCOL CAFE! Firstly, this is your local, hole in the wall, dive joint. With that being said, do not expect fine dining or beautiful food presentation. Instead, come here for the good (but greasy food) and local service to help get rid of the wine hangover. As mentioned this is hole in the wall, teeny joint that can hold maybe 20 people. about five booths and seats at the counter for 10. We came in at about 1130 and sat at the counter. By 12:00 people were waiting for seats They have a breakfast and lunch menu. Though we opted for breakfast and I can't comment on lunch items. The breakfast menu had your standard egg dishes such as omelettes, pancakes, meat (pork chops, rib eye) and eggs and they even have a breakfast burrito. I went for the chorizo omelette with green peppers, green onions and tomatoes. This was good and a large portion. I had it with hash browns and a tortilla. I loved how crispy the hash browns were. BF ordered the rib eye with eggs and hash browns. This was a HUGE portion! This was no small piece of meat! Service was ok, people are nice. It is in the industrial area part of town and the parking lot holds maybe 10 cars. If anything it's just nice to visit a local joint.

The only spot for a down home meal in Napa. You'll read this is the reviews and there is a reason -- mark my words the corned beef hash is worth talking about. Not the small cubed mushy corned beef you are used to. This is corned beef cut in strips and perfectly combined with sautéed onions and crispy potatoes. Don't expose yourself to food envy. Order it!

  • Vicki S.

Not sure how the food was rated so high. The portions are large and extremely greasy. I ordered egg white omelette and asked to hold the spinach. Did think that was an outlandish request. When the order came it was loaded with it. My husband ordered huevos rancheros and it looked like black bean soup covering two egg as floating on greasy tortilla. Waitresses were sweet.

Wow, this is one of those times where you never judge a book by its cover!! This is a small greasy spoon, but packed with huge value and great flavors. I had the breakfast burrito and it was great! The guacamole was great and it had a nice little kick to it! This is a great little whole in the wall and when you come bring your appetite!

Great place for breakfast or brunch if you want to line your stomach before a day of wine tasting. Its off the beaten path so you won't be dining with tourists or getting any special treatment. Instead you'll be dining with the families and hard working citizens of Napa. Expect a brief wait for a table and tight quarters; the dining room is tiny with maybe six booths and several seats at the bar. Speaking of tight quarters and families, expect loud conversation and the occasional screaming child. :) The coffee is good...not too strong and not watered down. Free refills like a diner cup should be. The OJ is adequate but has that frozen concentrate texture/flavor and is slightly watered down. The pancakes are amazing. Huge for sure; one cake is plenty for a typical hungry person when paired with eggs and meat. Ours were served with warm syrup in a squirt bottle for precise application. The eggs were good. The only disappointment was the chorizo. I was expecting a chorizo crumble but got a sort of chorizo patty. It had great flavor but it was so dense that it was hard to cut it with a fork not to mention chew. I ended up snagging a couple pieces of bacon from my wife's plate. I saw other plates coming out of the kitchen - which is just behind the counter - and they looked pretty appetizing: omelettes, steak sandwiches, and huevos rancheros. Oh speaking of the kitchen being close by, you will leave smelling like your breakfast. Overall, this is a good place to fill up with a diner style breakfast or brunch.

Who knew Napa would have a down home family diner? I had the huevos and rancheros and my fiancee had an omelette... upon further review we should have just ordered one and shared as the portions are huge. Huge and delicious. I might have finished half of mine and we might have gotten through a third of the omelette. Greasy spoon kind of place, but the value and flavor are definitely there. Go check it out, sit with the locals and enjoy a place that makes you feel at home.

I don't write many reviews but after having breakfast at Soscol Cafe, I have to tell you that this big guy from Texas can't wait to get back out for that incredible breakfast sandwich. Never in my wildest dream did I think I would find a place like this in Napa. It reminded me of all the great family owed cafés and diners in so many small towns throughout Texas. Great food, large portions, and owners and staff that make you feel like your family. The sausage patty on the breakfast sandwich looked like a half pound hamburger patty. Great flavor and will feed two people easily. Very small place but it only adds to the ambiance. Highly recommend.

Great small place for breakfast. I had the breakfast burrito which was awesome. We didn't have to wait but I was told that there can be quite a wait for seating. There's a few booths and some counter space. Great food and cheap prices. Winner in my book!

This review is way late but I was reminded about this great place when a friend of mine said friends were going to Napa and wanted a recommendation for food. Soscol immediately came to mind when it comes to breakfast. Holy cow, what a great place. Like everyone else says, it's tiny. Be cool, order your food, eat and scoot. Don't casually linger. Let others have a chance!

Great, no frills local joint with good food and friendly service. Nick always takes great care of us. The portions are huge, flavors are great, but you certainly aren't there for the ambiance. This is definitely one of our go to breakfast spots.

This is a small hole in the wall spot in Napa. My husband and I walked here from our hotel room, The Andaz on Second. I'm sure glad we walked because it gave us a chance to burn off a few calories from eating at this place. We had a little bit of a wait when we showed up at 10am on a Sunday. Our party of 3 got a booth. We all noticed the booth was pretty wobbly and there was a good amount of clearance from yourself and the table, forcing you to learn forward a lot. The service was fast and friendly. I had the breakfast burrito and house potatoes and my husband had the Huevos Rancheros. I thought his dish was much better than mine. My burrito was good, however it was pretty heavy in the black bean department. I wish it came with a homemade hot sauce. That would have really made my day. The house potatoes were noting special. Large hunks of potatoes that were pan fried. I think next time I will try the hash browns. Come hungry because the portions are huge,

Overpriced pancakes, breakfast burrito was nothing special, omelets large but just ok tasting, country fried steak was large, best thing was the corned beef and hash, but it all seemed overpriced for the taste.

This place is a dive. In the best possible way. It's warm inside. There aren't a lot of creature comforts, like Wi-Fi or a TV. But Soscol has some of the best breakfast our group of four has ever had. It's filling and delicious. It hits the spot. 4 Very large breakfasts, under $50. My wife said not to post this review - so others don't find out about this place.

    (5)
  • Catherine C.

Food was good. Huge portions. A total dive, but I was expecting that. We ordered strawberries and bananas, but not only did they forget to bring them out, they scratched it off our hand-written check without an apology or even mentioning so. Like it didn't even happen. Absolutely ridiculous. I watched as the server scooped ice out of a pot. No ice scoop. Such a health code violation. Not to sound like a snob, but I've worked in restaurants for entirely too long to see that happen and be okay with it. I had the corned beef hash, and my boyfriend had the biscuits and gravy. Both were good. Very hearty and greasy but delish. A good hangover spot for sure.

    (2)
  • Kelly O.

The corned beef hash was disappointing.....it was fresh-ish.....yup, I just created a word... Brisket needs extra time to cook so it can tenderize ...well it didn't happen so I'm still chewing corned beef flavored gum..... The service is always stellar and it is a dive so the ambiance leaves something to be desired .....I do know that their huevos rancheros is yummy so maybe that will be what I order from now on....

Wanted a big breakfast after a day of wine drinking. Generally love hole in the wall places so I wanted to check this place out. It's in an unassuming area of Napa. This place definitely has big portions for the money. Definitely not a tourist trap. My husband had the chicken fried steak, which was great. I had the breakfast burrito. It was good, but too many black beans for my taste, and I like black beans. Next time I would have them go light on the black beans. I would definitely go back again if I was craving a nice, greasy breakfast, especially after a day of drinking.

Have breakfast here every time I visit. Nowhere else. Hubs and I found this place through Yelp and decided to check out based on a very funny review (something about a punch in the neck if huevos rancheros aren't ordered). We went, we ate, we loved and have been going back ever since. I over eat every time and don't care, the huge farmer style breakfast last me till dinner so i don't have to interrupt my wine escapades. Come hungry.

My favorite breakfast spot. Also have great sandwiches and burgers for lunch. Friendly service, though the seating gets cramped when it's busy. However, the wait is not usually too long.

I volunteered for Bottlerock, and stayed at a friend's house near Silverado and Soscol. This gave me a mile walk to the venue. I got up early, dressed, and crept from the house to let my friend's family sleep and walked up Soscol for some breakfast before my shift. I had read the reviews, and decided that Soscol Cafe was the best easiest eats between me and my volunteer shift. I was so right! The place is the size of a postage stamp, with a big plate glass window that looks out onto Soscol, a VERY noisy, busy street for such a small town (made me wonder if the window vibrates a little, but I was too far away to tell). Maybe five little booths, that can only serve four if they don't eat there often and like each other *really* well. Ten spinner stools at a narrow counter close enough to the action to be a front row seat for learning greasy spoon grill tips. I was staring at a minor mountain of potatoes, country and hashed. I ordered the Corned Beef Hash with Eggs breakfast, and watched in amazement as freshly carved strips of corned beef came from the prep area at the back (the only part of the operation that wasn't in plain view) and were slapped onto the grill in front of me with some fresh red onion. Grilled up and plated with the hash browns that I requested, two eggs on the side, buttered toast, and coffee, this breakfast was bigger than my head! I made the wise decision and ate what I comfortably could, then packed the hash and hashed to take to the volunteer booth to share with another. The service is great, the food is authentic diner, you won't be disappointed!

This place is seriously, seriously overrated. I love greasy spoons. And I can deal with the high prices ($10 for a burrito). But the food was completely meh. Canned guacamole that was terrible. Flavorless hash browns. Overload of beans in the breakfast burrito. Really it just wasn't that good. Really great menu in theory, just poor execution.

PROS: Food tastes great and the staff is all smiles and very friendly. CONS: Very limited seating and busy, with slow service. (Still friendly, just slow.) Felt a little skimped on avocado too.

Hole in the wall Grease Spoon goodness. Perfect for next-day morning breakfast after a day of Napa day-drinking. Don't let the low key facade fool you, food is good, huge portions - great for men, but if you're a girl, you an easily share their dishes. The biscuits and gravy are amazing, best for sharing. I had my morning after must have: eggs, hasbrowns, bacon, toast and coffee. I was very happy :) place is small, don't come with large group, there are like 6 booths for four people each and maybe 12 dinner stools. We were five girls and got VERY lucky with 5 stools right next to each other. Otherwise, if you're looking for fanciness, don't come here.

It's on the left , Yelp directions don't indicate which side of the road. Great "hole-in-the-wall" breakfast/lunch joint. Large portions, homemade yumminess. Two local police officers were having breakfast here when we first got there. Shortly thereafter two CHPs joined us. Skip IHOP & Denny's - eat here for some local flavor. Voted "Best of" in 2013.

    (5)
  • Ahmad B.

Dive-ish, classic blue collar, truck stop like breakfast joint. Only a few booths, a few seats at the counter. The place is smaller than a 2 car garage, including the kitchen which is behind the counter. It's larger portions, it's greasy, I'm sure not to healthy of an option, but if you want an inexpensive, filling, delicious breakfast while up in Napa, you have to check this place out. Like I said its small, so the is usually a wait, and its i. A more industrial, part of town, but worth it. A must try! My rating is totally based on how good the food was, and how big the portions were, who cares about anything else.

  • Ellen S.

Stopped here for breakfast after reading review on Yelp. Portions are huge could have shared an omelet . Real old fashioned diner in the middle of Napa. Would highly recommend as a great place to fill up before hitting the wineries and the price was right.

I understand why they are voted the best breakfast spot in napa! Delicious. I had the biscuits and gravy and hands down the best biscuits I've ever had! My husband had the corn beef and hash with hash browns. A must for breakfast if you are in napa!

  • Megan M.

Great service, bad food. My chicken fried steak was greasy, oily and bland. The eggs were fine, but the home fries were oily and bland and not at all crispy. coffee was fine. It says something when the best thing on my plate was the toast with smuckers jam. The service, though, was excellent. Glad I went on a Tuesday morning and didn't have to wait in line.

Very nice servers. Awesome hot sauce selection. Food meh. I got the corned beef hash and as others have stated the meat was cut wrong and very chewy. I didn't eat very much. The hashbrowns were good. My sister ordered the huevos rancheros. They were not hot. Bummer. Might try this place one more time.

Great little hole-in-the-hall diner! Excellent breakfast and good, fast service! The French toast was some of the best I've had and bacon is crispy and delicious. Portion size is great in comparison with their prices.

Honestly, there is no other place that I want to go to to for breakfast when I'm in Napa. Once you get passed the glitz and the glam that is the facade of Napa you realize that the majority of that is for show only. The Soscol Cafe is a local breakfast spot where they serve their food with no frills, and the write the daily specials with chalk on a board above the coffee maker. This place is a greasy spoon for sure, but what else do you expect when you're getting a plate a cheese filled omelet with two different types of breakfast meat on the side. If I'm paying $8 for a plate of chilaquiles, then I expect nothing less. The food itself is great. I'm a huge breakfast fan. The hash browns are super tasty, the omelets are huge, and the coffee is hot. The staff is super friendly and attentive. This should be expected when the seating space is small. Some people would call this cozy. If you come here be prepared to eat. Also, if I may suggest, eat here first, and save your self a couple of bucks. You won't be hungry for the first half of the day, and you can use the money you save to go wine tasting.

Great little local diner. Stopped here for a late breakfast on the way to the wineries. Great food & friendly service. I give it 4 stars not five because the coffee was not good at all, but I don't usually expect great coffee from diners anyway. Try the huevos rancheros- huge and delicious!

I was visiting Napa and was looking for a place to have an affordable brunch. Yelp directed me to this fine establishment. The restaurant is very small and can be easily missed if you don't know the area (like me). Upon entering the restaurant, you'll see that there aren't many tables or booths, but there is also a counter surrounding the cooking area (very diner-esque!). Warning: the booths are TIGHT. You'll be sitting very close to other people and you'll sort of have to squeeze your way around in there. It's not the cleanest diner I have ever been to, but the top notch food is definitely worth it. They serve the traditional American breakfast fare - omelets, pancakes, etc. However, there are also Mexican inspired breakfasts. I had the breakfast burrito which came with pico de gallo, sour cream, guac, and a heaping helping of potatoes on the side. Mom and I split the portion, yet we both weren't able to finish! Dad had the corn beef hash (since so many people recommended it on Yelp) and he was definitely impressed! Service is also great. When I was there, there were only 3 people working, yet they were very attentive and very quick to refill drinks. Plates are around $10 each, which is very reasonable considering the HUGE portions. One downfall is that the restaurant closes around 2 PM, so late-lunchers, beware!

We found this on Yelp and when we originally found it, I told my husband keep driving it looks like a dive, so we went to another place but the line was really long and after waiting for about 10 minutes the hostess tells us that by the time we were seated they would no longer be seated if that were alright, so we left & decided to go back & try Soscol, we did, we went in & it looked like the outside, reminded me of when I was little and I would visit my grandmother in Mexico. Didn't take too long to be seated, it's very small so it was full. We were seated on benches that had tape on them and the seats were angled so that it feels you might slip off the seat...my husband and I laughed and figured this was an adventure, he had already suggested iHop but I prefer going to a non-chain, I was beginning to regret it but didn't say anything. I ordered the biscuits & gravy & my husband ordered the Napa omelette with the veggies-WOW the portions are quite large. The bacon with my biscuits & gravy were very thick & perfectly cooked and the biscuits & gravy were very delicious, so was my husbands breakfast, he kept stealing my biscuits & gravy too. The food is a 5. Makes you feel better that you can see them cooking right in front of everyone. Service is OK there is a bigger guy that cooks, maybe the head guy it seemed, he was very friendly the server maybe was having a bad day but did come by to give us coffee, if you want more you are on your own, which is no big deal to go up to the bar stools and ask for a refill they will quickly do it. If you are Ok with a more than non-fancy place but want good old fashioned breakfast, this is the place....it's an adventure but a delicious one.

This is the best breakfast in all of Napa!!! Tried of all the yuppie food and just want a simple yummy breakfast. Then come to this joint. The breakfast Burrito has the best flavor ever, thank to the black beans tucked inside a huge flour tortilla. My husband had the rib-eye steak, it was cooked just as he order and the hash browns were done well done just as requested. Don't be fooled by the old building. get pass the front door and enjoy some good old comfort food

This place is the superhero of hangover fighters. It's always a great sign when you walk into a diner and see cops or fire fighters. This place has both! Delicious hotcakes, and awesome Apple juice, I would have had the homemade cornbeef hash, but I was totally in a pancake mood. I will be going back.

This place was great 3 years ago. Went back today and the place was horrible. The people running the place now barely speak English. I ordered a Denver omelet which was excellent 3 years ago, was really bad; some Mexican huevos ranchers thing with this nasty red sauce poured all over the omelet. I sent it back. My kid ordered the chicken fried steak and it was some nasty, worse than Walmart section 8 mystery meat - totally gross order. The only decent dishes were the rib-eye steak sandwich and the salad. My guess it that the gringo sold this place to the Mexican employees and they ruined it. Service was nonexistent since the waitress dumped the food off and never came back. We were going to eat at Hwy 29 Cafe but decided to try this place again. that was a big mistake. Pass on this place and just go to Hwy 29 cafe. I gave 2 stars only for the good rib-eye steak sandwich.

Great place to grab a hearty classic diner breakfast. Sit at the bar and watch the magic happen. I had the corned beef hash and watched as it was cooked up fresh. Excellent flavor and the meat was nice and tender. You get a choice of hash browns or home potatoes and a lot of each..wow. We watched several bags of hash browns get poured onto the grill while we ate. The place was busy with all seats taken, but the wait was not long at all. Coffee was decent but nothing special. Good customer service. I will return.

My boyfriend and I started our first morning in Napa here. I found this place through yelp on a whim. At first glace we even considered not eating here, since it was such a hole in the wall cafe--that would have been a HUGE mistake! The tiny size of the cafe gave it such a homey feel, and they found us a booth with room for our moto gear. My boyfriend had the breakfast burrito, and I got the huevos rancheros. BEST EVER. The tortillas were so crispy and crunchy, absolute perfection. The meal was cooked perfectly. We ordered a side of bananas and strawberries too, and those were obviously super fresh and fresh cut. I tipped the waiter (who I think was also the owner!) extra because he was so fast and everything was so good. I was really bummed that we could not go back here the next day. We will definitely be back!

There was no way we would've found this place if it wasn't for yelp. We walked from downtown Napa to this place and I was a little scared because I didn't see any restaurants. As we get closer, it's this little place that had about 7 or 8 tables with about a dozen counter seats. It was around 9:00am sunday of memorial weekend and the tables were taken. It looked like just the locals came to this spot no touristy people (except us i guess). We sat at the counter and could see how the food was made and boy do they work hard here. We started off with coffee and it was served in this large mug which I LOVE! As we were sitting there deciding what to order, we saw them prepare french toast SOLD! We also shared the biscuit and gravy (which has bacon and sausage in it YUMMY!) with sausage. Turns out this sausage was a patty and has like this chorizo flavor in it. It was really good! When I go back I'll be having the french toast (damn the butter was good on this thing) and sausage patty. I hadn't had good french toast for a while. Our breakfast and service was great. One star taken off because the joint is pretty small. Food is cooked right there so you might come out smelling like the food.

The place is definitely a whole in the wall but don't underestimate the food! A very small place with mostly bar seating overlooking the grill and a few booths. The service was a little slow and our food took a little while to come out. We went for brunch and had the Mexican burrito. The portions are extremely generous and everything was very fresh tasting. Definitely worth the stop if you can get in the door. 3 stars for the service and environment, 5 stars for the food =4 stars overall.

Let me first start off by saying.. OMG SO MUCH FOOD.... the portions are HUGE!!!!!!!! It's a small diner so the wait is kinda long but I must admit, it's definitely worth the wait!!! I got the Corn Beef Hash, 2 eggs, hash brown, and toast $8.95 The corn beef hash came with large chunks of potatoes and the beef was kind of tough but good flavors. Comes with 4 slices of toast and a HUGE mound of hash brown... must admit kind of greasy but so good... Boyfriend got the Napa omelet (mushrooms, spinach, chicken, avocado, bell peppers, tomato, onion), hash brown, and toast for $10 Loved it, it was really good and super filling (at least 3-4 eggs..) Definitely will come back to try their hot cakes! As a tip, come early!!!

Delicious hole in the wall! Love the homemade corned beef hash. Sitting at the counter watching the food getting cooked is so much fun! Get here early to avoid a wait.

Overrated. the food is in big portion but not so much local touch to the dish. if you are from los gatos, you will know the LG cafe is way better. on the way back to the westin hotel, you can stop by the oxbow public market to have the french crepe or some fresh juice at the juice bar. that's a better bet. Gott's roadside has no customers inside. so dont take the chance. overall, we had chicken fried steak with hash brown, napa omelet, one hot cake with 2 eggs at soscol. i wont recommend any of them for you to try.

Love the portion size, it made me smile. Everything is great except the ceasar salad, the dressing is store bought and probably came in a plastic bottle, not quality or home made dressing. We had the Machacha and the omelette with home fries. I want to go back and try more. They just reupholstered the seats and tables. Service is prompt and friendly.

Another reason why I love Yelp--If it wasn't for Yelp we would have never found this place! Soscol Cafe from the outside can easily be overlooked. We would have just drove by this place without a second glance if my boyfriend hadn't Yelped breakfast spots in Napa. I am a true believer that it's the hole in the wall restaurants that serve the most authentic, fresh, delicious food and Soscol Cafe only proves this theory. The restaurant is small and when I mean small, I mean SMALL. But the food is the exact opposite-HUGE portions. I ordered the Machaca and my bf ordered the Huevos Rancheros. Dee-lish-ous! I definitely recommend Soscol Cafe to out of towners looking for a down-home, quality, breakfast spot in Napa.

This is one of our favorite breakfast spots! We've been coming here since we moved to Napa a few years ago. My bf and I love hole in the wall breakfast joints; and this is definitely one of those places. You receive big portions and good food; you definitely don't leave hungry! I highly recommend the Chorizo Omelette or the Huevos Rancheros; these two dishes are two of our favorites. Also, don't be deterred by the long line that usually waits you on weekends the food is worth the wait!
