Its a great place to have a sushi... kind and helpful staff combined with good food and good bear and sake collection... You have to try their Albacore sashimi... specially the one with caramelized onion on top... its so tasteful and delicious...

Our favorite sushi place in LA! The fish is always fresh, flavors are bright, service is fast and friendly, and the menu is continually gaining creative additions. Our favorites: protein roll, fire roll, dynamite roll. They are also great at understanding a gluten allergy.

Good food and good service, Herman is awesome and really takes good care of his customers! The sushi is fresh, and all the dishes I've tried are well made. I've had various rolls, most of which are the baked kind...my favorite! This includes the lobster, scallops, and a few others. My friends have tried the chicken teriyaki, tempura and miso soup, and have been very happy as well. Even though the food is good, I feel it's a bit pricey for what you get. I enjoy the other sushi places in Montrose even more, and they're just walking distance away. They are just as good and you don't pay as much. Plus, the tables here are really close together, so you can clearly hear the conversations at the tables next to you. I don't like that or feeling so cramped at a tiny table.

I would give this place a 5 star rating but with recent visits..i dont think thats possible. Their food is great but some of the employees are rude! I dont get why they are closed 1 hour everyday..I went in one time at 2:50pm(they closed at 3:30pm)... i specifically called and they said they would seat/serve me..i walked in at 2:50pm, the lady there said no no no sorry we closed...??? It was pretty embarrassing how you walk in to the restaurant door and they ask you to leave. That is pure horseshit!

Some people go to Disneyland, I go to Blue Fish. I have been going here for 5+ years and though they change their staff on a monthly basis( What's up with that, Danny?), this is still the best place in a 50 mile radius to get sushi. The sushi chefs are the nicest people. They remember you face- I mean I go there so often it would be kind of embarrassing if they didn't- and treat you like a friend. They raised their prices a month ago- didn't think I'd notice, did you?- but it's still pretty reasonable. More importantly, the SUSHI IS OH SO GOOD! Superman Burrito? UH-mazing! Candy Cane Roll? melt in your mouth fantastic. Even their Sashimi salad is delicious, and I don't eat salad. I am a ginger lover and they bring as many bowls as I like, unlike Midori or Sugarfish which charged me 3 bucks for 7 slices of ginger. Long story short: go there ASAP, but please don't take my seat.

I still love this place! I go at least once a week. I usually go with a group of 4-5 and we always order the Superman Burrito, Anoush Roll, Crispy Rice and Shrimp Chip. I also usually order the Chirashi with no rice because it's an awesome value and the fish is always incredibly fresh. We usually eat on the new side because it's less crowded but the menus are the same. Justin is my favorite sushi chef. He's super nice and very talented at his craft. The staff knows us and treats us like family every time we go. Between the service and the food, you won't want to miss Blue Fish! I promise you won't be disappointed!!!

  • Mrs F.

My parents, my husband and I are regulars here (at least minimum twice a month of not more) and this place is THE BEST SUSHI BAR. The staff is so much fun to be around with the best service. Fish is always fresh and there is NO SMELL!!! Enjoy a good time, good food, good atmosphere and try their sake!

If you're looking for high quality sushi this is the place. Little on the expensive side but worth it.. If I'm in the area this is the place I go to for sushi!!

I'm a 140lb 5'7" guy, so no pig. $6.75 avg for nigiri (2pcs fish sushi) $11.75 and way up from there for rolls. I'll start my review there for those only interested in what their bill will look like at the end of their date. The rolls are larger than what you may be used to and are in fact very tasty. The nigiri is a waste of money. Like HUGE waste since you get 5x the fish in one of there rolls. I just don't see a balance there. If you are an average, casual sushi diner you could get full on one roll. But if you're like my good friend and myself the only thing one roll will make you is waiting on the second, then third, then fourth. We could manage 5 rolls before being tired of eating the suhi but would be Fed UP with the prices long before. Let me price your night for 2, 4 rolls of tasty sushi rolls $60, 1 large asahi for saki bombs to split $8.50, 1 hot saki to split $10. That comes to round about $88 with tax prior to tip. Of course this will vary based on your personal amount of consumption. The long and short of it is that with an ever growing number of sushi places popping up, like fungus on a dying tree, you have better choices. Much better choices actually. Where after you are done with a satisfying meal you can go home and pay rent and use internet because of the money you saved. But then, not everyone is on the sensible end of sushi eating as far as prices go. Some spend whatever they feel like. They should listen to more Dave Ramsey.

Great food and excellent service. I would recommend this place if you are in the area and want great sushi

My boyfriend favorite place to go for chirashi bowl. It's cheap and fresh. The staffs are friendly and there's never a wait.

Best sushi I have ever had so far in my life other then when I went to Japan. There fish is extremely fresh. No fishy smell which indicates how fresh there fish is and great service. The only bad thing is they are much more expensive then the other sushi places in Montrose. But I promise they are worth it! Id go here more for there fresh fish and rolls that are Too CRAZY. I want to taste the fish I eat and I want it to melt In my mouth :) I'm still trying to find a better sushi restaurant. But so far this is my #1 place so far and trust me I have been to a lot of different sushi places including Japan.

  • Araik P.

This place is by far my favorite sushi joint. The location is great and the fish is always fresh. I haven't had the chance to read all of the other reviews that this place has but in my opinion they deserve nothing less than 5 stars. They have a great variety of rolls and the Chirashi Bowl is probably my favorite.

we ate here today after hearing good reviews from friends. it was ok. not as exciting as I expected. but no complaints either. we ordered the Thai shrimp roll, special library roll, white tuna roll, miso soup and an iced green tea. The Thai shrimp roll was the most unique. 1st time I had peanut butter in sushi. I actually liked it. Total bill $50+ and they forgot to charge for the miso soup. They did give us half an orange for dessert on the house. Service was adequate. We did notice it was all male staff. We were the first ones to arrive when they opened for lunch at 11:30am and sat at the sushi bar. Our food was prepared promptly and the restaurant began to fill up pretty quickly.

  • Sarkis M.

To start off id like to say the yelling across the place is frikkin annoying!!! But the sushi is good it used to be amazing before they opened the second side. My main orders are the 2261 roll and the anoush roll and also we get assortments of sushi and sashimi. Pricing is a little pricey for the quality. I like the design of the place its nice but i think its a decent joint by my house for sushi so ill probably be back

  • Mel A.

I love this place the food is great and the waiters/waitresses are very nice and professional

    (5)
  • Eric J.

Eh....disgusting. Just sweet rolls. Bad, poorly made sushi. Bad quality of sashimi. Bad sushi. If you really like food and want to taste the food rather than the dressing (often too strong ) skip this place. Only thing this place has going for is the atmosphere. Don't wait in line for this restaurant. Be honest to your self. Are you eating sushi or the sauce. Ew.

  • Elizabeth K.

The staff is super friendly, and the food is spectacular. I love this place, just wish it was closer to me! I have not tried a roll or item I did not like yet and always get the popcorn lobster no matter what :) I drive from Sherman Oaks allll the way over to Blue Fish without even thinking twice. A+

I think we may have found our new go-to sushi spot near home! Was just trying to decided between 4 and 5 stars, so I ran down last night's dining experience in my head - service, food, price - there was nothing we didn't love! A friendly host greeted us, offering to take our phone # and text us when a table was ready, if we wanted to, maybe, get a drink at the bar next door. We opted to just wait there, and were called within 10 mins. Tables are close together, but not unbearably so. All staff were friendly, responsive and always smiling! They do some yell/cheer sort of thing every time people come in (and, various other times, it seemed) that added to the fun environment. Prices were more than reasonable, considering the area. We ordered: vegetable yakisoba ($9.95) - fresh, hot, delicious Philadelphia roll ($6.95) - fresh, smooth cream cheese, perfect Honolulu roll ($9.95) - unique, tasty garlic chilly edamame ($4.99) - wonderfully spicy, could have eaten a pound of this The complimentary orange at the end of the night is ice cold, and a lovely sweet treat to end the meal.

  • Anhtuan T.

Came with a friend and tried their omakase. Spoiler alert: it sucked. It was $50 for a special roll + 8 pieces of sashimi + 8 pieces of sushi or something like that. The price isn't bad if it's some quality sushi but this isn't. The chef however chose all lower end sushi pieces i.e. regular shrimp, white fish, albacore tuna. Where was the uni? toro? spanish mackerel? They were staring at me the whole time in the display case and they never brought it out. And the sashimi pieces were all duplicates of the sushi which was really disappointing. Also, we sat at the bar and expected to get the real omakase experience and have the chef hand us piece by piece fresh as it came out, rather they threw everything onto a platter and brought it And the quality of sushi was just ok. Not very fresh and not very fatty and definitely overpriced for the quality. I don't like to be a hater but I'm putting in some serious work on this place...H8 H8 H8

I absolutely love love this place!!!! It's very close to my house so its convenient. The food is my favorite. It comes in big portions and it is always fresh. I have had almost all their rolls and they are all so amazing. My favorite rolls are 2261 roll, golden Philadelphia, pop corn lobster with side of spice tuna roll, baked salmon, crispy rise with spicy tuna and the anush roll in that exact order. And for sashimi my favorite is albacore with crispy onion and the garlic edammame is to die for. These are my favorite but there is more to the menu that is also amazing. The place is very clean and they always greet you no matter how busy they are. I am here at least once a week... although last time I was in there I came out upset because they would not sit me and my friend at a table for four people even though they were not busy at all. They asked us to wait for a table of our size to open but we walked over to sake. But I will not let that determine my rating for their amazing food and overall service .

  • Belle D.

Service and atmosphere was good, but the food was way below average. We both ordered Nabayaki udon for lunch. All we found was endless noodles and unions. There were barely anything else! Two tiny tempura shrimps plus scraps of veggies to garnish. At almost $13 a bowl - this is definitely not a good value!

    (2)
  • Hyeri K.

worst sushi restaurant ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! never going there again. their sushi is not fresh at alllll. there was a piece of eyelash in the deep fried tempura roll that we got. definately the worst sushi restaurant in town.

Danny is the bomb. I always leave full and happy. Crispy shrimp is killer!! Spicy crispy tune is why I return. Blue sake bottle is so smooth.

  • Grace H.

I love this place! The price is decent and it's so worth it. I've been to many sushi restaurants and this place is one of my favorite places. My favorite roll is their Anoush roll. If you like salmon, then you have to try it! They also have a lunch special which is pretty good. If you're looking for a nice sushi place, you should definitely check this place out.

This place is located on the main strip in Montrose. When I am visiting in the area there are limited choices. My complaint with them is they use cheap cuts of salmon on their entrees. Their sushi and sashimi are okay. This is an expensive place, and I am not certain you will leave there feeling you got your money's worth. Friendly service (they scream something out) each time a dinner enters the joint, I am curious to know what they are yelling. They do have some cool creative items like the "heart attack ", which is a japanese / mexican fusion dish. I really wanted to give them a higher rating, but there is no denying some of their food items are not the highest quality unfortunately.

  • Arshag D.

This place deserves attention for it's albacore sashimi. It's really tasty and stands out. The rest of the menu is good but nothing worth noting. The location is all right -- it's long and narrow -- not too comfortable -- but the waitresses can get pretty annoying yelling across the place. Probably the best sushi in Montrose. But this does not mean much as there are probably one or two other locations in Montrose.

Hands down one of best sushi spots in LA always fun fresh sushi and customers service is 10/10. Had many birthday parties there never had a problem. If you haven't been your def missing out.

Hands down best Sushi! Herman is an awesome server! Everything is super fresh & delish!

Yum!!! This place is quite the find. I have frequented my fair share of Sushi Bars/ Japanese Restaurants and this place is by far the best new find I have had in quite a while. The fish is always fresh, the rolls are delicious, and I have yet to have anything that I didn't truly love. It takes a lot for me to give a five star review, especially when it comes to sushi, but this place is more than deserving. It is in a great location on Honalulu St. In Montrose which is a fun little Main Street drag with lots of restaurants/bars etc. If you are in the area I highly recommend checking this place out!

    (5)
  • E O.

The food is really fresh and good. Service is also good. I do recommend to anyone in the area. it seems like they are getting too big though and the next door location is kinda iffy.

I've gone to the places several of time and every time. I alway order more than I can eat. No worries there left overs . Yummy!

This place has the best and freshest sushi EVER!!! I crave their sushi in my sleep! The quality is good and fresh! The servers are nice and attentive. The albacore is like butter, it melts in your mouth! The rolls are so good. I can't stop saying enough good things about this place! It's the BEST!

  • Lorelle B.

If you want to get away from the city and have a some fresh fish...Blue fish is great sushi! Not too many places have Ono sushi, it's white tuna and blue fish has the best cuts. You can't go wrong with anything you try here!

Great quality sushi, excellent service One of the best sushi restaurants I've been to. My girlfriend and I enjoyed dinner at this fine establishment for the first time tonight and enjoyed everything about it. Nice environment. A little small and compact, but I enjoyed the ambiance. The sushi was unique and tasty. I recommend trying the candy cane role! The service was fast and friendly. Our server was also very entertaining and funny. Thank you! We will definitely visit again, soon

The Blue Fish is located in charming downtown Montrose in a little place. Very charming inside too, lots of natural light and wood tables. THE FOOD: I went with a large group of people and we ordered almost everything on the menu! The sushi rolls were all really fresh and innovated! -THE FOOD -appetizers- baked green mussels and edamame with siracha sauce. Both were really good, but the edamame stole the show. If you've never tried it with the siracha, you haven't lived -Rolls- I got the Marilyn-Mon-Roll and it was ok. I'm not a fan of the scallops in it and it was really protein heavy with very little rice but it was still pretty good. The Inside-Out roll and Superman roll were also big hits at our table. -We also got tempura which was pretty decent- about usual for tempura- and the 'healthy' plate of chicken terrikai. -Kid friendly. They put the kids food in a cute bowl whithin a bowl within a bowl. The kids got a kick out it. They give the kids oranges for dessert. -Friendly service, even though it was difficult getting a server every once in a while when we wanted to a refill or to get rid of plates on our table. They just let them pile up. And one rolled her eyes at my friend when she asked for a fork. But the chef made it up to us by sending us a free specialty roll. Whatever he sent, it was the best thing we had!

I've been in here a few times over the past few weeks. The sashimi don is a great lunch selection, there's a healthy amount of sashimi that comes with it and the entire dish is flavorful. The udon is great as well. Reasonable prices. Quick service. Signed, a soon to be regular.

This place gets ZERO stars. I've been here several times before and since they have opened the second side the quality has diminished entirely! I went here last night with my sisters and ordered the albacore and spicy tuna roll. SInce 2 am last night until even now I have been throwing up. Me and 1 of my sisters got FOOD POISONING! The other sister had noodles so she is fine. And in mentioning it to people today, I learned that two other people i know have got food poisoning from there recently. STAY AWAY!!

  • Heidi V.

My husband and I have been going here for the last couple of years and I've just gotten around to writing a review. The servers are very friendly and I've not had a roll that doesn't fast fresh yet. A few favorites include the firecracker roll (spicy tuna, tomatoes, avocado on a wonton crisp) crispy rice, the library roll, the red dragon, and the red and sweet roll. They also offer a deal of 5 pieces of sushi, with a california or spicy tuna roll, and miso soup for a VERY reasonable price. A deal I've taken advantage of several times now. Even their take out is delicious. Make a trip up there, you won't regret it.

Hands down one of my favorite sushi restaurants. Every time I go it's always a fun atmosphere and the food is great. There is a waiting list at times but it is definitely well worth the wait. I really like the popcorn lobster that they have and the fish they serve is really fresh.

  • Bruce C.

One of my favorite sushi joints around. Been coming here for a very long time. Service is excellent. The fish is always fresh, and on the rare occasion that it isn't, the staff will let you know that you should order something else! One of the Friday nights that we came here, the owner gave Sake bombs to everyone who was of drinking age on the house! Some of my favorite specialty rolls...Anoush roll, Protein roll, Heart attack roll, Spicy tuna on crispy rice, and the Special Library roll!

    (5)
  • Edgar M.

The fish here is always fresh, and although they're always busy they never fail to accommodate the customer to the best of their ability. It's a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere and affordable pricing too. If you ask for any sides they will not be cheap and will bring you an abundance of it. Try this place, its in the very quaint town of Montrose.

This is where i go to full fill my sushi cravings and I fall into that smitten feeling every time I come back. I usually go during happy hour from 11:30 -3 i believe. Erick, BEST CHEF EVER, ask for him. He's off on Wednesdays and Tuesdays. One time he hands me deep fried lobsters, I think that's what it's called. Today he made deep fried scallops. YUMM. Of course, I gotta give credit to the man that treats me with treats, LEN! Thank you for the ice cream! Hope to see you guys soon again (:

  • Catt S.

Food was good, service SUCKED. It took 10 minutes to get a glass of water. I like that they are trying new flavors but we had one with peanut butter and shrimp in it. That was sooo nasty! Parking in the back is fine but its a tiny place so tough to be intimate and tends to be noisy.

    (3)
  • Gerald S.

The best sushi place in the area. Great specialty rolls - worth the price. We can't resist ordering the Anoush Roll every time we come in.

  • Marine K.

I love this place!!! This is the only sushi restaurant that i can say the food is awesome!!! Blue fish has ruined it for other sushi restaurants. Honestly I can't get enough of this place. I highly recommend eating at blue fish!!

  • Paul C.

Any sushi restaurant that has "white tuna" on their menu either has no clue what they are doing or is intentionally trying to fool the consumer. Go ahead and do a search for white tuna and find out what it really is.

  • Jen F.

By far our favorite sushi in the area. They have a large selection of unique rolls and their customer service is always friendly. Most of the time we sit at the bar and it is fun to talk to the sushi chefs and to watch everything they are preparing. The waiters and waitresses are very attentive as well. Yes, it is crowded and sometimes there is a wait but I think it is best to go to those kinds of places so that you can be assured there is a lot of turn over with the fish and you are being served something extra fresh! I have recommended to numerous people and as far as I know, they have all been satisfied :)

My fav in all of LA! They have the best quality fish Delicious specialty rolls Super clean gorgeous bathrooms

  • Anni K.

Perfect place to enjoy sushi! The chefs make really good stuff. I'm very picky about my sushi and this place has . The reason why I get it 4 and not 5 is because the close between lunch and dinner and sometimes I get a late lunch and they're not open or I go in and it's almost time for them to close so I try to hurry

    (4)
  • Emily R.

They insisted we ordered certain items on the menu, when we did not, and even after the dispute, had the nerve to charge us for it, too. This place is way over priced, way over rated. Not coming back here.

  • Courtney T.

Went here on a Friday night, gets pretty packed so get there early and sign in to the wait list out front. Definitely recommend the shishito peppers and Nigori sake. Sushi was great as well my friend is a vegan and said the veggie rolls were really delicious! Would come back again!

  • Irene C.

Fresh fish and awesome service. It was good but it's nothing special. I've tried: Chirashi Bowl - it was kind of small for the price. Sashimi Salad - the salad was a basic sashimi salad done perfectly; I wasn't overwhelmed with the dressing which was nice. Tempura Ice Cream - I just had to get this. It was good but for something that should be freshly fried it came to our table cold. Everyone from the host to the waitresses were very upbeat and helpful.

Great service, nice atmosphere and really clean, fresh sushi. Everything I tried was pretty good we has maybe 7 different rolls together. The crunchy onions are a nice touch. I love the orange in plum sauce to refresh my pallet at the end :)

This used to be our favorite go-to spot on Friday nights. The chefs knew me and my wife, and we used to get kind of VIP attention from them. We would often get a dish (not on menu) prepared and comp'ed by the chef. Of course, we would always reciprocate with more than generouse tips as well as buying rounds of sake to all chefs. Clear 5 stars. Fast forward to about a month ago, I went there with my son and sister for lunch (for the first time in about 4 years). I have to say that the inside decor has changed to a contemporary diner style and appears to cater more to younger crowds (with loud, hip music playing). We ordered albacore sashimi (my favorite), sweet shrimp, a few sushi roles and rice/miso soup combo for my son. It took a few flagging+reminders to several servers (including a busboy) before the rice/miso dish finally arrived. Service was never their strong traits. As far as their dishes go, albacore sashimi did not disappoint... excellent! Sweet shrimp was terrible, and we did/could not finish them. Sushi rolls were OK. I think this is still one of the better/if not the best sushi restaurants in Montrose area to be fair. That said, I certainly missed the place that my wife and I used to enjoy until four years ago.

This place is, was, and always will be my FAVORITE sushi joint ever! ...Also doesn't hurt that it's right down the street from my house! I've been coming here with friends and family for years and they never disappoint! Their fish is honestly the absolute freshest around! Their specialty rolls are all great, you honestly can't go wrong! One of my favorites is the Shat Love Roll, and 2261 is an Albacore lover's dream! The Albacore here is truly the best I've ever tasted! Friendly staff, great specials, fresh fish; I'm hooked! (No pun intended! :-P)

Way over-priced for the quality of food. Save your money and go to Sushi Monster down the street... The reviews are over-rated.

Just finished my 2nd visit here. Have had good experiences both times. The rolls I've had here are very large sized portions. Some are twice the size of the same roll that you might get elsewhere. Sohee helped us and was very friendly and helpful and offered great recommendations. Was very pleased with the great service here. Will be back. Only thing I don't love is the unnecessary shouting that occurs every time someone walks in the door. When you're seated at a table it's not so bad, but when you're at the bar area it can get really bothersome.

I went out with my wife and son on friday night. Ordered Chirashi, accidentally ordered Salmon Carpaccio (wanted the yellow tail), and a roll with seared tuna and spicy tuna, and kids' Udon + fried tofu rice ball I cannot stop thinking about how good it was. I've always wondered why people line up to go to Blue Fish when there're couple other sushi places within a block or two. I ate Chirashi at Sushi Gen and it wasn't too memorable. Though priced at $20 I thought it was very fresh and wanted to go back next morning. Salmon Carpaccio was also very good, although I would've much preferred Yellowtail Carpaccio. Spicy Tuna/Seared tuna roll was good but by the time it came out, My wife and I were fully stuff that, although it was good, we did not appreciate as much as we should...but we did finish it all. Chirashi rice is spiced with vinegar, so was the kid's fried tofu rice ball. If it wasn't for the price, I'd definitely go weekly and order Chirashi ($20) and Yellowtail Carpaccio ($18). I had good sashimi, including live fish sashimi, and Blue Fish is definitely a top quality nice big pieces tender sashimi. Chirashi alone is huge and will fill me up...but Carpaccio is so damn good that I MUST order both and let my tummy explode in fresh goodness

The absolute best sushi I've ever had. I was introduced to Blue Fish by a friend in 2009, and I've been going there at least once a month ever since. I've introduced this restaurant to numerous friends who have told several of their friends, and this has become everyone's favorite place. My favorite sushi rolls: 1. Red Dragon (if you like tempura) 2. Shat Love (must have if you're Armenian) 3. Superman Burrito (must have! Comes in 2) 4. Red Mountain 5. Marilyn Monroll

Man, I love this place, but seriously - what's the deal with the service? It kind of killed my boyfriend and I when we came in at 9:30 p.m. (the restaurant closes at 10 p.m.) and they pestered us as soon as we sat down to order saying, "Last call is at 9:45 p.m." Okay, fine - I get it. I know the food biz is tough, rough and sometimes the customers blow, but we are two great customers who live in the area. So 9:55 rolls around and our server suggested that we give her money. "We have to close the register," she said. We gave a good tip, paid for our food (even though we were clearly still eating) and left by 10:05 p.m. Dinner was great, but seriously - why did the service royally suck?

oh... this must be the place i was kidnapped and was taken to... i hate traveling far for food... so one day my friend kidnapped me and took me far far away from my comfort radius. this place seemed very small but cute... food was pretty good... black labeled sake was GREAT. these mussel things they have were sooo very good... never had that before... their eel with avocado thing was good... friend had halibut sashimi that she said was good and some spicy rolls that were too spicy for us haha... anyways if it wasnt for the price and location id give it a 4.5. oh and theres very limited seating so i wouldnt recommend it for groups. the biggest table is for 4, unless they push together the tables... and there were only about 4 tables. haha.

Tasteless, overpriced sushi! Placed looked cute, but the food is really bland. Rolls are overloaded with ingredients and covered with a horrible sweet sauce. My first time here and I thought it was very disappointing! Would go elsewhere for better sushi!

Great sushi place! Staff was attentive & provided great customer service. The rolls were fresh, yummy & really offer a large portion. We ordered a Fire Roll and the roll was accompanied by fire! We also ordered the spicy tuna over crispy rice - a must and another roll that was yummy! Price was very reasonable.

Fresh and delicious sushi, and excellent service. Must tries: popcorn lobster, shat luv roll, red mountain and Danny roll (named after owner/manager Danny who is an amazing host). Blue fish has been our local go to sushi place for years.

Easily one of the best sushi places that I've been to. This place is great! The food is absolutely phenomenal. From the danny roll to the shrimp chips (one of my favorites) I simply can't get enough. Aside from the amazing food the place itself has a great vibe and the service is always top notch!

This place is my favorite sushi restaurant! it may be a bit pricey but its well worth it! I like sitting at the bar because you can see all the cool stuff they make. The popcorn lobster and the albacore sashimi with the crispy onions are the best! :)

I have never had a bad meal here. The sushi is always fresh and the service is good. For a local eatery in Montrose, it is high on the list of good restaurants. Enjoy...

This cute place in Montrose is good for rolls. If you like all the color, crunchiness, sauces, jazzy names this place is pretty good. After awhile though the rolls started to taste the same -- maybe I didn't do a good job varying my order choices. I did order spanish mackerel nigiri. That was a mistake in such an obvious-roll-centric place. The fish was not the freshest and cut too thick. The menu is gigantic and I didn't get to try any of the non-sushi dishes which did look delicious. Service was average to below average. I had to ask about 3-4 times before I got a glass of water. I think the wait staff try but on a Friday night the place was just a tad too busy and chaotic. Not a bad place but given the plethora of sushi choices all over LA I wouldn't go back again.

Blue Fish does not have Toro or Ankimo. I guess it's the area? I know that some Japanese/sushi establishments won't carry certain cuts of fish because they don't get a lot of patrons who will order it. So although I was disappointed, it was understandable. However, they ran out of uni. Now I'm sitting there thinking to myself, now what? We had to eat, so here is what we settled on: Sapporo Beer (LG) - could be colder, but it was good and much needed. Warm Sake (SM) - good, but I'm not a huge fan of sake. I got sick off it once and I don't think it's been a long enough time to start drinking it again. It was good tho. Salmon Egg (ikura) sushi - good. However, it wasn't wrapped very well and the nori kept getting undone. Yellowtail Sushi - accompanied by too much ponzu, but still good. Could have been fresher. Spanish mackeral Sushi - good Scallop Sushi - good, but once again, could have been fresher Sunset Roll - spicy tuna & shrimp tempura roll, topped with eel & avocado. Probably the best thing that night. Spicy tuna could have been spicier, but it was still good. The servers weren't very attentive and it took awhile to get our orders of sushi... and we were sitting @ the bar! I was so busy chatting and catching up with my sis that I only noticed twd the end of the meal that everything leaving the kitchen/bar were ROLLS! (explains why it took so long to get our orders) I guess BF is the place to come for rolls. If you're in the mood for sushi/sashimi, look elsewhere.

This is the sushi place I come to the most because it is just so close to my house! With a winning selection of rolls and the quaint feel of a locals only ambiance this place has become my favorite sushi restaurant when those all-too-familiar sushi cravings hit. Positives: I find it so refreshing that I don't need to stick to my "favorites" when I order. I make it a habit to try at least one new thing from the menu each time I come in, because as it turns out, everything is good! Last night I tried the Tear Drop roll, very fresh and great texture, although I was disappointed there was not enough of it! Another great thing about the restaurant is its location. 3 Hour free parking in the back (unlimited after 6 PM) so there is no time wasted! Also, you can dress as casually as you want and you won't stick out like a sore thumb. The place itself is rather small, even though they recently expanded it but with its high ceiling and proper lighting the place does not feel claustrophobic or dingy in the least bit. Negatives: Although I work in service and can be a bit more lenient on struggling employees, I knocked a star off for one of two reasons. First reason being that although the servers can seem eager to please, sometimes they misunderstand you, look over certain items on the order, and (although this is not always the servers fault) bring out the orders rather late. Last night we had a very waitress but she had forgotten to add one of our sushi orders and my friend's combo meal with the teriyaki chicken and tempura vegetables came with only the chicken. After reminding them about the tempura on 2 occasions, we were apologized to profusely but the tempura never came! Finally on the 3rd request did we receive the tempura, after she was fully done with her meal. I find it a bit unprofessional, but the waitress blamed the "new" cooks. She didn't comp the meal but we were treated to free ice cream as a dessert. I don't know if this is something they do for everybody now that they have expanded the restaurant, but it was still an appreciated gesture (Hey we were all craving something sweet!). Another negative I've experienced at this establishment is wait time. On certain nights, particularly weekends, you can expect to wait about 30 minutes to an hour to be seated. Although they have a great reputation and people love to come to this tiny place, it can still be a little off putting having to wait outside (sometimes, in the cold) for a table. Another negative about this place, although I won't dock a star because I know this can happen anywhere, is the fact that I got food poisoning. This occurred about 3 years ago when my friend and I came here for lunch during the week. I got the Popcorn lobster roll. I did not feel too hot later that night. But, like I said - sometimes these things just happen! It's food, not the titanic. All in all this place is wonderful! Decently priced, large portions, yummy selection, and welcoming ambiance. What's not to love?

Definitely a winner! Blue Fish has never let me down...not once! As a regular at Blue Fish, the chefs didn't really have to work to keep bringing me back to this awesome spot. Small, cozy, friendly and inviting environment. This is one of the best sushi restaurants I've ever stepped foot in, sashimi is always fresh and tasty but its their specialty rolls that will bring you back! I would highly recommend trying this place if you've never been.

After a stroll around the local botanical garden (the Descanso Gardens), we decided to grab dinner at Blue Fish. First time here, for me at least, and I absolutely loved it! Friendly service, great food, FRESH fish (I cannot stress how important this is), and a great experience! There was a special going on that night, where you can get 8 pieces of sushi (chef's choice), 8 pieces of sashimi (chef's choice), one specialty roll (of your choice), and 2 sides of miso soup. All of this for 34.95. I have to say, pretty amazingly cheap! We also got their seaweed salad, pretty standard and not bad at all! You can barely taste the sesame oil in it. Sashimi- delectable, tender, and fresh. How all sashimi should be. Our special came with 2 pieces of tuna, 2 pieces of salmon, 2 pieces of white fish, and 2 pieces of mackerel. nom nom! Sushi- not sure if I remember what came with it, but it was as standard as the sashimi order. Regular salmon, tuna, shrimp, octopus, halibut. I'm pretty sure I'm missing a few but there was as much enthusiasm for the sushi as there was for the sashimi. We decided to pick the Descanso Gardens roll in honor of our trip right before dinner. And I am glad we did because this roll is uniquely appeasing. The Descanso roll is a regular california roll, but topped with cubed ahi tuna and tomatoes. Nice combination and very good! I would recommend this roll to anyone! Everything being taken into account, we demolished our meal and left as happy campers. Yum.

I've been going to Blue Fish for over 2 years and get the same amazing service! The staff is friendly and the food is great! My boyfriend and I make it there at least once a month... The food never gets old! Everyone is great specially Kathy! Kathy is always there and welcomes us like it's family! Whenever I'm asked what's the best sushi restaurant... No questions asked BLUE FISH! Ohh their Shat Love roll is to die for!

Went here on a Saturday with a party of 10 for a birthday celebration. The best advice I can give you is that their staff is NOT equipped to handle large parties. It is probably not a good idea to have a waitress on her FIRST day waiting a table of 10. Bad management there but they did give us another waiter. Food wise the meal was ok. I had the cucumber salad and a baked lobster roll. My boyfriend had the sashimi salad. He said that there was a lack of fish and the salad was bland. My cucumber salad was delicious but the baked lobster roll was not that great. There was a lack of lobster on the roll and in the roll. Basically I had more avocado than lobster. The service was less than average as it took forever to get my lobster roll and my boyfriend never received the salmon hand roll he ordered. I will say the calamari was cooked to perfection - not to crisp and the calamari it self was tender. When it came time for the check, the waiter did not keep track of the alcohol that was ordered by each couple and our check had the salmon roll that was never received as well as other items that we did not order. Now I understand how difficult it is to serve a large party, but I am thinking as a waiter you should have this down to a science or tell the party that you don't do separate checks. Also, when you are adding on gratuity for a large party, you should insure that the party is not waiting or having to flag you down numerous times for refills on water. It's the simple things that count.

Nothing special about this place. Overpriced compared to other sushi joints on the street. The server recommended their spicy ramen but it really tasted like watered down jjamppong. I would honestly go to Sushi Plus for good affordable sushi or Sake for atmosphere.

uni was good. ama ebi was ok. jumbo scallop tasted good altho cut in an unusual way. the marilyn mon-roll was bad. it was soft and sloppy. i think it needs to be reworked. maybe all the ingredients that make it up are altogether too soft. that roll needs more of a balance. good ambiance. we waited for the basketball game on the TV to be over and then we asked the older lady that worked there if we could change the channel to the hockey game already in progress. all she said was that no one is allowed to change the TV unless it's the boss. well duh! what do u think we r asking? go get ur boss and ask him/her if we can watch the hockey game!!! whatever.

OK it is not in Malibu, although Nobu in Vegas is better than Nobu Malibu in my opinion. It is some of the best sushi in Los Angeles and the service is really good. Getting in can be tough after 6pm. The place is just OK and they could stand to keep it nicer, but you will not have a bad meal there. On second thought it sucks.. stay away.. I already hate the line to get in...

Any sushi restaurant where I don't get sick is good as far as I'm concerned! With that said, The Blue Fish was one of those places! Upon walking in The Blue Fish, you'll received a very verbal and loud welcome from the staff and chefs. It was almost too loud...and of course everybody there turns and looks at you! The restaurant itself is very retro yet simple. The walls were painted blue and white which gave me the feeling of eating sushi underneath an ocean. I was not expecting much since in my mind every sushi restaurant is the same but was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the sushi: very fresh and flavorful. No fishy smell or overcooked sushi rice here. I ordered the Dragon Roll (basically California Roll topped with spicy crab meat) and the Smoked Salmon Roll (huge chunks of salmon here!)..both were delicious. If possible order from the chef's specialty roll menu. Not only are the rolls especially good but have funny names! Service was attentive and friendly. The establishment is very bright and clean. Price can get up there if you're not careful but most dishes are reasonably priced. Can get very busy during the evenings. Overall a great eating experience in Montrose.

First time here. Had the following: superman burrito, the library roll, shot roll, anoush roll, veggie tempura, baked mussels, and albacre sashimi. All of them were delicious. A friend recommended this place - and I was skeptic at first, but I must say this was one of my favorite sushi experiences in LA area thus far. Definately going back. Erick, our sushi chef was awesome and the servers are very cute and polite. Very fun group of people....they even gave us a complimentary sashimi...fantastic!

The place was / used to be a top notch! Serving quality fish and wanting to please patrons. Now, it's more like how can we maintain our daily gross revenue in a tough anti-sushi economy. Answer, use lower quality, cheaper fish. Used all fresh fish Vs. frozen. However, the owner started to used frozen fish due to recent down turn in the economy. Compromising in quality. I'v noticed that they started to used frozen fish in the last 2-3 years now. I believe the yellowtail is still fresh and is the best around depending on the chef and the cut you get. The interior is very busy or should I say chaotic for a Japanese place. I can't really pin point what it is that they are trying to accomplish. Where did those pendants come from? Only thing good is the high exposed beam ceiling and a brick wall. Music was too loud. The service has been and is still lacking. Still a good place compared to other places in the area. My favorite places are Hide Sushi in W.L.A and Sushi Gen in Little Tokyo. Both owned by Japanese not Koreans.

This is the only sushi place that I go to in the Glendale/Pasadena area. The popcorn lobster is as delicious as it gets. The sauce on it is amazing and the portions are pretty large. I also like their spicy tuna roll, shrimp tempura roll, this eel roll and basically everything that I've tried here. Unlike some other reviews, I always have really fast and quick service when I come here. It's a bit more expensive than some other places I used to frequent, but it's absolutely worth it.

This is a great place for creative rolls... In fact my husband and I are still going through the list - that's how long it is... There fish is fresh, their sushi bar service is super fast, and their chefs are some funny guys who always look like they're having a good time. Not quite the place for sushi purists or sashimi adventurers (they don't have many freshly flapping specials or crazy odd sea creatures). And table service is a wee bit slow. But it's their list of creative rolls that keep bringing us back... I'm not even gonna tell you the name of their super good roll - because if we get their late, the ingredients end up being sold out :(

Bad service. Our waitress told me to wait when I had the sushi form order filled out and she wasn't exactly busy. The food was ok. Nothing to talk about as one can get better sushi somewhere else close by. The bad service really just made it a bad experience. Won't come back.

best sushi in LA ! very very fresh.. everything we have tried tastes awesome. most places I go to I order lots of variety and after coming here, I noticed all those other places food starts tasting the same as the meal goes on. by the end nothing is very distinct. but this place!! the food always seems to have great flavors coming. the wait staff is very nice and attentive and the chefs are really cool. food comes out quickly and tastes awesome!! I suggest the johnny roll, shat roll, and crispy rice roll. also try the albacore salad. we have been here more than a dozen times and are never disapointed. the place isnt very big so expect waits on weekends...but well worth it!!

'Love this place, despite the fact that it's small and frequently crowded. Quiz: The fact that it's always crowded is a likely indicator of ___?___ You got it - their food is not just good, it's consistently phenomenal. I've read a lot of complaints about the wait staff, and hmmm... I've been here a number of times and I've never experienced anything either better or worse than service at any other restaurant. My absolute rip-out-your-hair peeves about restaurant service number just two, above and beyond all others. They're the Scare Pair, the Evil Twins, the Gruesome Twosome: 1. Servers that let my water run out. Ever. 2. Servers that make me wait to pay, first for the check to arrive, then for the return of my CC and receipt. Places that really want to p*ss me off make me wait in the middle too, for someone to pick up the card in the first place. What's struck me about BlueFish is that *I've never experienced either of these here*. So I give this place a thumbs-up on service, no matter what oddities others may have experienced. The most important element, in any case, is the food. And the BlueFish food....ohhhboy. There are a couple of dishes I've had in my life that I've compared favorably with great sex - the Tequila Chicken Fettucine at CPK is one, also virtually anything at Pepper's Thai in Palm Springs, and...the BSC Roll at BlueFish is definitely another, followed closely by their teriyaki salmon entree. Both of them are utterly sublime. I'm a big fan of the Japanese punk/alt/opera/metal/a capella/rock trio eX-Girl, so when I saw an "Aji Fry" special on the greaseboard I nearly went for it. Their tune of the same name is a little, umm, frightening however, so I chickened out at the last minute. 'Next time. The last time I was there the BSC Roll was no longer on the menu for some reason but you can just order it anyhow. It's a large sushi roll with cooked miniture scallops on top in a sweet/tangy sauce. The taste and texture are out of this world - the kind of thing likely to make Andrew Zimmern roll his head & eyes to the left (you know the move,) and say "Auh! Incredible." In that sense the place is a bit dangerous, 'cause it typically puts me in "goldfish mode" - where I compulsively scarf down food until a.) it runs out or b.) I explode, whichever comes first. They have an impressive selection of sake (though at the moment I can't remember if they've got Kaori from Yamagata Honten Co., which is my new fave,) also great appetizers that are always fresh and hot, like their excellent edamame, miso and gyoza. I've eaten at Yuki Yama - a few blocks up Ocean View, then right on Foothill - and although the original BlueFish chef runs it & the menus are virtually identical, the food at Yuki Yama is nowhere near as good as BlueFish, 'don't know why. The difference is especially noticeable in their respective gyoza appetizers and miso soups, and in that Holy Grail of sushi, the BlueFish BSC Roll. If you're trying to decide between the two, most definitely head for BlueFish. It's smaller and noisier, but for whatever reason the food there is far superior. The prices at both are moderate to semi-high, but not inconsistent with any comparable sushi place. Figure somewhere around $10 +/- $2 for sushi picks (any of which is an ample meal,) and in the low to mid-teens for entree dishes. There's ample free parking in the huge public lot behind it - bounded by Florencita Avenue and Montrose Lane - and lots of nifty shops along Honolulu if you're looking to punch up the metabolic rate after eating and the sake hasn't messed up your equilibrium too much for vertical activity. A place worth going out of your way for; easily the best sushi I've had to date.

Had a great experience with my sweetie here on Friday night. After getting the heads-up from fellow Yelpers, I expected okay service and definitely sat at the bar. There are only like 6 or 7 tables inside and about 15 or so seats at the bar. We were promptly seated at 6pm on a Friday night, not too bad. Within a half-hour there were 10+ people on the waitlist standing outside. Some random thoughts: 1) Ordered the albacore, salmon, dynamite and descanso rolls. Portions of sushi were fresh and pretty large, total bill came out to be a little more than $30, which is approaching Gin Sushi territory. Good value. 2) Owners of Blue Fish also run Tani in Pasadena. Like many sushi joints in/near Pasadena (Gin, Sushiya, Kabuki), owners are Korean masquerading as Japanese. Most non-Asians could really care less though. This place has the best sushi of them all though in terms of quality and quantity. The only better sushi I've had in SGV is the Japanese-run Yoshida in San Marino. 3) The Honolulu Avenue region of Montrose is kinda dying if not dead already. Having only lived in La Canada for less than a year, there seems to be high turnover of restaurants there, including most recently Havana Cafe which had a super-cheap mojito. 4) I could see how some Yelpers wouldn't be happy with this place, but for the price I think the whole experience was more than fair. I will be back soon.

Bluefish is always consistent when we come for sushi or even a lunch time snack. I've never had a problem with service, and we've been at least half a dozen times. The fish is fresh, the rolls are creative, and they have a terrific seaweed salad!

After trying so many different sushi places, finally found my favorite place. Now that they extended their business and it looks amazing, I am going to recommend this place to everyone. Great food, AWESOME customer service, and fresh sushi. The owner is very friendly and down to earth, and he makes sure that his customers are taken care of from the beginning until when they leave. Kathy, who is one of the servers, always has a smile on her face even at the busiest time, and she makes sure that you are happy with your seat and service. Definitely will be going back soon =)

*UPDATE* 10/14/12 - Long time coming update: Blue Fish has upped their prices a bit, but are still hands-down a very decent and reputable sushi experience. Old review- Blue Fish has fusion rolls and prices that make your taste buds water. The fish is fresh and the creations original and tasty. My friend and i ordered the Special Library, the Dynamite Roll, and the house special, 2261 (albacore is my favorite). Let me tell you, if you want HUGE portions for reasonable prices then Blue Fish is for you. If you want to spend a grip to impress your tasteless friends then this is NOT the place for you. Enjoy and thank me when you finish. PS: I took a star off for the service. The waitresses are just alright, and the "Hi" they keep saying at every little thing got to be really annoying.

After reading the good reviews we decided to give Blue Fish a try. We were with our young children so didn't opt for sushi and instead ordered dishes with rice and noodles. My beef teryaki was pretty awful and the beef was way overcooked and so chewy and hard I could barely swallow it! And strangely my beef was cold but my rice was hot. My son has chicken yakisoba which was OK but nothing I couldn't make at home myself. We shared the large sample starter plate and it was nice enough (green beans were excellent) but the chicken was cooked to the max and was actually crispy. The service was OK. The girls were nice enough but the guys were pretty rude and seemed to be in a hurry all the time. All in all it was OK but there are much, much better restaurants out there and there really is nothing worse than being seated next to the kitchen entrance and en route to the restrooms.

Decent food, AWFUL service. I haven't been back in five months. The deal-breaker for me was four things combined: 1. My mom's tuna roll had fish in it that had obviously gone past its expiration date. It smelled awful. When she tried to return it, our rude server said that they don't do refunds. What the heck? No refunds on a roll that was like 12 bucks and she could not eat? 2. Our server spoke very little english and we only saw her twice. Once when she took our drink order and once when she gave us our bill. That was it. 3. My edamame was $3.50 and it was the smallest portion I've ever seen of the beans. 20 beans tops. I asked one of the men at the sushi bar if I could get some more and he ignored me. 4. I ordered one of my rolls in soy paper and I was given sushi in seaweed. Again, they wouldn't fix my order or give me a refund. If I could give this restaurant 0 stars, I would.

Any restaurant that will gladly put up with six girls who haven't seen eachother in months (read: loud laughter & "omgs!") with a smile and free sake/spicy tuna rolls is good in my book. The basic rolls were actually mediocre and falling apart (gasp!). But the specialty rolls here are, dare I say, to die for. Not in the fugu sort of way. In the, "did you really put sashimi on top of a jalepeno and make it work?" kind of way. Point being, if you are looking for suuuushi, go somewhere else. If you are looking for a cute/local/little place that serves sushi and whose staff are actually from Japan, go here.

This place is ok at best. Over priced if you ask me. My daughter's kids meal did not come with a drink and they charged $2.50 for a kids lemonade! Sushi is just ok...nothing spectacular. They sat us right outside the kitchen door (loud and cramped). Won't be going back...

Blue fish totally won me over yesterday! I needed a quick bite to eat and rushed in for a to-go order. I had never tried their sushi but man was it delicious! They got it prepared quickly, delivered great service and made my day. I look forward to going back and enjoying a meal in the restaurant.

I agree about it being crowded, loud, and not great service. You will likely wait quite a while for a table, etc. But it's crowded and busy because it's good. It has very fresh sashimi and also has some very creative and unique rolls. One with curry and peanut sauce, Thai style... I enjoyed my meal, and thought it was worth the price and worth dealing with the crowds and spotty service. It's not the best in LA or anything, but it's worth checking out if you are in the area...

I LOVE THIS PLACE....come here ALL the time with friends. Let's start off with parking. You won't know it but there is a huge parking lot in the back (through the alley). I'm not sure if they take reservations or not but I've always came during the day and found there to be seating available. The service is really good, they're always on top checking to see if you need anything. The place is really small and narrow, so not a lot of service. If you're not particularly picky with your sushi and sashimi, you will love it here. They have a lot of spicy tuna rolls (downside) but they're specialty rolls are delish! AND FOR A GREAT PRICE They aren't cheap, but 3 awesome rolls and sashimi for around 40 bucks...hells yes! WARNING: They have odd hours, kinda like a siesta time period, so make sure you check before you go.

Best Sushi in LA for a good price... possibly.. I haven't eaten at every sushi place in LA... but I have eaten at many.. I really like blue fish. I have always had great service there, and have been there a dozen times. The waitresses are super hot... thats a plus for me, cause who doesn't like hot girls bowing to ya? ;) *waiting to be smacked by every broad on this site :) wait.. did I just say 'broad'... sorry, I meant Dame... ;) Highs- The food is great, plenty of parking in the back, good prices, good service, hot azn gals, and after dinner, there is a bar next store, OR a coffee place across the street.. mmmmmmm swork. Lows- no free refills on soda or booze, Not great for groups, *it is kind of a intimate place. and by intimate I mean small, and by small I mean like my junk. and by my junk I mean penis. which has nothing to do with sushi. So now you know, and knowing is half the battle. one fish, two fish, who fish? BLUE FISH... learn it bitches. :)

i love this place but it is pricey so its a great date place if u wanna look like a baller. its small so there might be a wait depending on what time u come in. and u have to wait outside. there's a ton of parking in the back and its free for 3hrs. street parking u have to pay until 6pm i think. i haven't had a roll there i didn't like. but a must try is yellow fever and popcorn lobster. and if u have a lot of people with u. ask about their sake bombs. they do this cool thing where they line them up and do this domino effect and drops into the beer. pretty cool and fun. the waitresses are cute, sweet AZN girls. the sushi chefs are pretty chill. they allow them to drink on the job if a customer buys the boozes. i would give it five stars if they were a lil cheaper. but its worth it

I love sushi and i know what good sushi tastes like. Blue fish is satisfactory. However, the service is terrible! They forgot to give us the ice cream for dessert, but they didnt forget to put it in our check. SEriously, who does that?

When you go to any sushi restaurant you look for 3 things: 1. freshness 2. menu selection 3. bang for your buck This restaurant had a little bit of those three criteria...but not enough. First, freshness. I had no problem with their freshness here. Nor did my picky friends who I eat here with. The spicy tuna salad had tons of fresh (and really spicy!) tuna that topped a nice bed of greens. Their menu selection is something to give them props for. They had a litttttle bit of everything. Their selection of rolls was particularly impressive. I was sad that they did not have a bento plate for those who want a little bit of everything. They did have a naebi udon which was a nice surprise. It's taste however was not anything special. They had the usual rolls plus some interesting creations they came up with on their own. In-n-Out roll anyone? The Johnny roll is I guess a favorite in this restaurant. Bang-for-your-buck? Hmm. Notttt sooo much. Its a little bit pricey for what you get. Most rolls are around the $12 mark. The naebi udon I was talking about borders around $10-$11. There is no happy hour (how disappointing). Every sushi joint should have one!! I had no complaints about the service. It was fine for me.

Definitely my favorite sushi place in all of La Crescenta, Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena, Hollywood, etc. The food all tastes fresh and does't take too long to come out. The staff is friendly and comes around often to check on you. They have the most amazing rolls, my favorites being Popcorn Lobster Roll, White Roll, Johnny Roll, Dynamite Roll, Ladybug Roll, Baked Lobster Roll, Baked Salmon Roll, and Fire Roll (which literally comes out flaming). They're generous with their sauces (we use a lot of spicy mayo and eel sauce) so I love that. I've never tried their sake but my friends all love it. There's also plenty of parking in the back which is very convenient (free parking) or you can get a spot right in front if you're lucky (metered parking). I love sitting by the windows because there's always people walking by and it's very relaxing. Overall, awesome food and great location. Ok, now I'm hungry =/

I go to Blue Fish at least once a week since its so close to my store. They have great sushi, you have to try the seared ahi tuna roll, the shat love and the red dragon, these are my favorites and got to try it. They have a great lunch special too for anyone on a budget. Only things is that the place is too small, but they are expanding in the near future so that will be great.

consistently good and fresh. Gotta love the little kiddie meals they have in those little stacking bowls. Salmon sushi is always very fresh (i dont eat it - it looks like it can still be risen up from the dead!) it's my favorite local japanese place with the best edamame ever!

I would not recommend this restaurant. And the service is dissappointing. Last night they wouldn't serve my husband and I with 25 minutes left on the clock. There were tables open and people inside finishing their meal. After living in La Crescenta for 25 years, I was able to try a new sushi restaurant across the street which is phenomenal. So it turned out OK.

Ugh, I HATE that people have written reviews about this place! I thought it was my little secret! But then again, every time I go it's jam packed so I guess I wasn't alone in my love for this place. Blue Fish is much like any typical trendy sushi joint. It's tiny with about 12 bar seats and 6 tables. Service is kinda spotty so I almost always go for the bar. There's a bunch of fancy rolls like the "Marilyn Mon-Roll" and I tend to avoid all of that. I love this place for this fish -- it's fresh, fresh, fresh and served generously. The salmon always melts in my mouth. The other plus about this place is that it's in Montrose -- potentially one of my favorite parts of L.A. It's a teeny tiny neighborhood that looks stuck in a time warp. And everything shuts down after 9pm except Blue Fish. The streets turn empty and it's quiet and dark and perfectly lovely for after dinner strolls. You're up in the hills and it's almost like being away from the city. It's like what Citywalk could be if there wasn't 50 million fucking people around you all the time. Anyway, back to fish. Blue Fish is by no means cheap sushi but when the hell is good sushi cheap?! If you want cheap sushi, hit up a buffet. If you want good sushi without the pretense of West L.A. sushi joints go to Blue Fish!

Been here 3 times and it's always very fresh. The creativity of their specialty rolls is really nice. Also try their location in Old Town Pasadena, prob one of the better sushi places in that area for your money.

Short Version: Good sushi in an unexpected area. Long Version: This restaurant is a nice surprise. It has the quality of a good sushi restaurant you'd find in the Beverly Hills area, but none of the attitude. Service is great, food is well prepared and the wait time is minimal. I only wish the restaurant was bigger, but then it becomes more intimate as a result. No complaints, repeat customer. An unexpected find in the area.

  • Neal C.

If you are used to West Los Angeles sushi bars, then Blue Fish will seem somewhat similar to most sushi bars in L.A. that now emphasize decor and high-quality sushi to attract customers. That said, there is a dearth of decent quality sushi bars in the Glendale/Eagle Rock/Montrose area, and Blue Fish rates at the very top. It is situated in charming Montrose (a suburb of Glendale, if that isn't redundant), on tree-lined Honolulu Avenue, which is by far the coolest part of Glendale. The best things to order are Blue Fish's sushi rolls as they frequently produce many special rolls for customers that are not on the menu. However, this is no different than many other higher-end sushi bars in the greater L.A. area. The quality of the sushi is excellent as well. They also serve hot Japanese food which I have not sampled that much.

  • Chris A.

The service at this restaurant isn't the greatest, however, the good sushi makes up for it. I'd say the regular roles are not a big deal but the specialty roles are what you should try. Still better than most other places but kind of on the pricier end.

Service was a disaster. Waitresses had to be reminded over and over again to bring food to table. They didn't bring my soup and salad and forgot to place my entree order. I gave up and cancelled my order. My kids got their food ok. They said the food was OK. I will never go back again. Very disappointed with amateurish waitresses and terrible service. Don't waste your time and money at this place. 5/2008 UPDATE: I decided to give this place another try. I sat at the bar and got great service and food from the owner of this place. Unfortunately, I think the waitresses are the same...so, if you're going to sit at a table, make sure they repeat your order.

Sigh. Another restaurant I had to give 4 stars to because the service was not-so-good. The food is amazing...but when I went there, the waitresses (all asian girls if that matters to you) seemed very overwhelmed and unable to keep up with the waiting list. After waiting for 30 minutes, we were seated at the sushi bar...only to be told we had to get up cuz they had "missed" two people that were ahead of us on the list. (They had been mysteriosly crossed off the list..?) So after waiting another 15 minutes, they offered us a table and we finally got to eat! We ordered a ton of food for 3 people and had a lot of leftovers. The 2261 roll is really great if you love albacore like my family does :D The portions are really big too. Even though it was super crowded and busy, the food came out in a timely manner. Yum yum!

It's alright...the food is decent. The restaurant is a little pricey. I have been at this restaurant several times before. Since the head chef has changed, looks like that the food is going downhill. The service however is alright. It is a small place and packed. Waiting can be long. However, the atmosphere is good.

The fish is ok, the rice is old BUT the part that really pissed me OFF was the service! Unbelievable! these people do not understand the meaning of "the customer is always right" First, one of the rolls had bad fish in it, it just tasted wrong. Second, my wife "seemingly" ordered the wrong roll, instead of accomodating the server said that they dont "void" orders or correct mistake! I am pretty sure we ordered the right item...horrible service! I left the all encompassing $0.00 tip. I would rather eat sushi from a vendi machine then ever go to blue fish again!

  • Ryan D.

Their sushi is as good as I've had at far more expensive restaurants, but reasonably priced. Their salmon sashimi is particularly good, and my personal favorites are Alaska Roll and Hot Zone Roll, with a Miso Soup as appetizer. Also the location in Montrose makes it so you can go stroll down Honolulu afterward and get an ice cream or frozen yogurt.

  • Nic V.

You wouldn't really think that there would be a good sushi restuarant in La Crescenta of all places, but this is probably my favorite spot. The sashimi portions are very generous and they don't skimp at all. The rolls are creative and yummy, and the staff, especially the chefs at the bar, are friendly and courteous.

I used to frequent this restaurant when it first opened, thoroughly enjoyed the food, genuinely friendly service and comfortable ambience. The music was contemporary, soothing music, very enjoyable. Through the years this place has gradually changed. My son and I went there the other night, the music was loud techno-type music, the waiters curt and the food was, well, different. It had an odd taste to it, like cheaper ingredients were now used. Evidence of cheaper ingredients was shown in the lemonade which used to be made fresh but now is clearly from a powdered mix, not worth 10 cents, in my book. There was absolutely no effort in making the plates presentable, just sushi lined up on the plates. They used to put shredded daikon radish in curly piles in the center of the dish I would often get, but now it was just a line of sushi. I had to hunt for tofu and seaweed in my broth. There are lots of good sushi restaurants to choose from. I was extremely disappointed and will not go there again.

Wasn't expecting much, but the fish quality was great. Sashimi is fresh. I also had some rolls and their "special sauce" is tasty. The sushi chefs were friendly and I had a good time with them. I did have to wait outside for about 20 minutes (stupid me for nonchalantly trying to go there during primetime dinner hours), but for me, it was a great experience and I'm glad I got to go there.

I absolutely love Blue Fish. This is my go to sushi restaurant. The food is absolutely delicious. Everything from the miso soup to the complementary orange slices is perfection. For an Asian restaurant the service is better than most, with a very friendly staff. The sushi is not the only delicious thing on the menu however; their chicken/steak teriyaki is stellar alone with other delicious soups like nabeyaki udon. Popcorn lobster is a must when you go there. I highly recommend this delicious family friendly sushi place.

  • Amnaj B.

This place has a really chill vibe and decent service. I'm mainly going to focus on the omakase (chef's choice) that this place offers. The omakase was one of the most non-original ones that I've ever seen: 8 pieces nigiri - Salmon, Tuna, Albacore, Red Snapper, Shrimp (Ebi, not the sweet shrimp), White Fish, & Yellowtail 4 types of sashimi (2 pc ea) - Salmon, Tuna, Albacore, Red Snapper and choice of special roll which I had the Protein Roll - variety of fish wrapped in cucumber which was refreshing Execution was good, the quality was okay, but what really got to me was the lack of originality! They should leave this particular item off of the menu. The salmon teriyaki was average, nothing spectacular.

My favorite sushi place of all time. If you're dining here for the very first time, I suggest you order the seared ahi tuna first & anush roll second. You will definitely not go wrong with these two, unless you have no taste buds in your mouth. Besides the great food, a great service is included with your dinner. My personal favorite host is "Herman". Not only his a great host, he also remembers all of my family names. If by chance you get Herman as your host, speak to him in your native language and you will be in shock. I've been in this place probably over 50 times, and belive me when I say, I NEVER had one bad experience yet. Keep up the great job, and thank you Herman for all ways making our visit a pleasant one.

By far the best sushi place in the area. I go here all the time because it's close to my house. They've got excellent high quality food. It's a decent price for the quality of sushi you're receiving. I love the Anoush Roll, Heart Attack, 2261 and the Albacore sashimi. Their sake is great too! :)

So I can't say this was one of those spots that sticks out from the gang. It is your typical sushi style spot that apparently now has two parts to it. Perhaps it was the pop musical tunes of lady gagahhh and justin beeee-berrr that threw me off that night -__- The sushi was relatively fresh. Didn't get a 'wow' though from the fish. We had a pretty neat sushi burrito though!

I am conflicted about giving Blue Fish only 3 stars because I found their food to be quite good. For me though, half of the dining experience is the food, and the other half is attributed to the ambience and the service. The later is the reason for my 3 star review. My husband and I went to Blue Fish for dinner on Valentine's Day. We were seated in a fine amount of time so up till now a good experience. Where it started to fall down was when our server took our order. My husband and I ordered 5 types of rolls (we can eat), and our server commented that our order was a lot for two people and gave a sort of sassy look to go with her comment. We assured her it was fine and that we would be able to finish it (which we did by the way). After our food was brought out she never came back to our table, she didn't ask us how it was, or ask if I wanted another glass of wine or my husband wanted another beer. I had to ask a bus boy for some water. We finished our meal, which was again, delicious, but now could not get her attention to get a check. My husband flagged down the manager and explained our issue. The manager was kind and apologetic and offered us free drinks. We did not accept the offer, because it was not his fault and we appreciated his willingness to correct his server's behavior. I would like to attribute her poor service to Valentine's Day, but I see a few other reviews with the same issue. All in all, I think I would go back because the food was good, and the manager was really nice... but this time I think I will sit at the sushi bar where your server is the chef and he is right in front of you.

I like going to this place. Its local, friendky, delicious and always very fresh sushi. I have been here many times, and never been disappointed. My favorite dish is the yellow tail sashimi, and this fish if it's not served very fresh it doesn't taste as good as it should, and this place serves one of the best. Very tender, and generous portions.

Mediocre at best. I am not a fan of their food. Staff is very sweet but there is little consistency and freshness is a hit or miss.

  • Alex M.

The place was packed, great reviews, convenient location, but really disappointing. The sushi rice is much too sweet and lacks the vinegar sharpness, or any saltiness. It's also mushy, with little tooth to the rice, so as a support it just doesn't hold the fish up, which can not frankly stand on its own. Too bad. We were so full of hope.

We love Blue Fish- eat there just about every week with my little ones. Yummy sushi, friendly service. I love their Lady Bug roll (if you're going to deviate from straight sushi), or try the dynamite roll for the best Dynamite in town. Rolls are huge.

So I grew up in Glendale and have been to Blue Fish tons of times. I have NEVER once had a bad experience, or sub par service, or not fresh fish. I must admit, I am super shocked about other people leaving negative reviews for this place, but hey, its Yelp. I have honestly come to expect haters from Yelp. But enough about them. Blue Fish is a bit pricey now, but hey, good food is rarely cheap, and cheap food is rarely good. The popcorn lobster is AMAZING, their sashimi is spectacular and fresh, and their rolls are great. I also love that they have rolls that think outside the box. Also a note on how long it takes to get a table. The food is good. Don't be surprised because you have to wait to eat good food. Enjoy it.

Since there's so much mediocre sushi in LA, with supermarket sushi slaughter everywhere, how great to eat really, really good sushi with fresh fish, classic rolls, and a selection of signature concoctions that remain true to the basic textures and flavors if the cuisine (ie, no cream cheese or rolls named after east coast cities). Two basic rolls, a deluxe roll featuring sashimi toppers, and hot sake for two, 40 bucks. Perfect.

I just had the most amazing dinner here! It was expensive but totally worth it. Great service too. Two thumbs up. The food was very tasty, loved the rock music playing in the background, and it was a nice atmosphere over all. I'll come here again.

Awesome gem in the neighborhood. The sushi here is very fresh and of great quality. Must order the albacore sashimi with crispy onion, so good!! As well as the spicy tuna on crispy rice! Inside ambiance gives it a unique feel. Staff is very friendly and attentive.

I am only reviewing the $9.50 lunch special. 4 pcs sushi and a spicy tuna roll with udon noodles. I actually got full and the sushi pcs were large and good quality. The filling for the spicy tuna was among the best I've had. Really enjoyed it.

I don't even know where to start... My friend and I decided last minute to eat somewhere close by and chose here. People around me actually recommended to go to this place, so I said why not and came. But...failure.. As I walked in, servers yelled something in Japanese or something, which was kinda weird. But my friend and I didn't really care. So we were seated with menus and was looking through it. But everything was so overpriced! So we decided to get some appetizers, candy cane roll, and heart attack roll. But after being seated, nobody took our drink orders. It was Friday night, so yeah I get that you are busy, but we are your customers too! Finally, one of the servers took the order and we were waiting for our food. Food took forever, even though there was like 4 sushi chefs tonight. Food was pretty descent, but I had better rolls elsewhere with cheaper prices. Another things that distracted me was noise and music. Their music is very loud and when it gets busy, it gets overlapped with people's conversations. Also, the servers kept yelling "hi" or something at our faces! I asked them if they could stop doing that, but our server said they are required to do it... very weird.... The most absurd thing I observed today was this manager looking guy scolding one of the servers in front of the customers! His face was red and he was yelling like crazy and everyone was staring at them. The server looked as she's going to burst into a cry or something.. Since I don't know what kind of mistake she made, I can't judge. But you shouldn't scold her in front of EVERYONE. That's gotta be embarrassing. After that, he walked around the table, making sure everyone was having ok service with a smile on his face... I wonder which side of him is real? Anyway, overall, I won't go back to this place. I had better service and food elsewhere with better prices. If you like noisy atmosphere and overpriced food, then this place is just for you.

Sushi selection is vast, & fresh to the eye as well as the nose. They give you an authentic Japanese greeting, which is nothing special, as do most sushi establishments, but it is nice to see the tradition being upheld. I had some albacore that was so fresh, it was like having rice with butter on it. I also tried the peanut butter shrimp roll that is strange sounding, however, delicious and savory. A great spot for sushi in Montrose. Friendly & attentive staff complete your eating experience with a sense of enjoyment.

With so many sushi restaurants in La crescenta and Montrose, I feel like these joints really need to step up their game in order to survive. The food was tasty. Nothing exceptional, but good. The ambiance, fine. The service, eh, not so good... Friendly, but too many mistakes. We came in for lunch. They gave us a lunch special menu. We ordered lunch specials (both me and my sister) They brought out regular menu sized food, then asked, "Oh, did you want the lunch special?" She even asked me when I ordered, "The lunch special, Right?" Then looked at me like she had no idea what I was talking about, when I reminded her of that. Oh well, I wouldn't return. Like I said, too many sushi places in this area, for me to want to spend my $ here, and have to feel bad about something that wasn't my fault in the first place.

So, this use to be one of my favorite sushi restaurants & the first time I tried it was like 2-3 years ago when they had the Pasadena location still open. But now, ummm not so much, I don't know what they changed but its not good anymore. Now at the Montrose, La-Canada location but it just doesn't do it for me. The same rolls that I would order from the Pasadena location are not so good here. I'm so disappointed because it was honestly sooo delicious, well made & all the rolls were unique before. It really was good. But now, not so much, whatever changes you guys made please change it back so I can be a customer again. They also recently opened a continuation of the Blue Fish in Montrose right next door & I have to say I just don't understand it. It's the same restaurant but there are two entrances, the two are separated by a wall & if you walk into the one on the right to be seated they walk you back out, take you to the left side & seat you there. The rolls are not made on the left side even though there is a bar & everything they need to make rolls on the left side also. They make the rolls on the right and walk them through the outside to the left portion of the restaurant where you're seated.......... ummmmm confused yet ?!?!?!?! if you are going to go here, seat on the right side of the restaurant. So you know who's making your food, so it wont take extra long to get there & it won't travel outside first then to your table. Other than that, the place looks really modern & nice, the service on the left side is not so great, they forget the side orders I wanted even though the place was completely empty except for us & one other table. The right side has much better service. Overall, this place was GREAT before but not anymore. They need to bring the chef from the old Pasadena location to this location, pleaseeeee you need him! OOOOhhhhh and whatever you do please don't try to Marilyn Monroe Roll! Please! it is just scary looking & nastyyyyyyy tasting! Disgrace to Marilyn Monroe! Please take that off the menu or at least pleaseee change the name of that roll to something like Big Ugly Blob....... that's one change that needs to happen!

Definitely one of my favorite sushi places. I've been going to Blue Fish since 2004 & there is nothing that I can say bad about this place. Always gotten seated right away, good service, free parking in the back, and the food is great. food is fresh and doesn't take too long to come out! Very nice and clean. My favorites : 1. Popcorn lobster roll 2. Albacore with crispy onion 3. Spicy tuna on crispy rice 4. Marilyn mon-roll Love Blue Fish!

Nice area. Nice little spot to have dinner. Service is great. Dragon roll was ginormous, shishito (sp) peppers were the bomb! Had a heart attack and it was made to perfection. I don't like jalapeños at all, but this is the only way ill eat em and I love the way blue fish makes them. Reasonably priced. Fast service too which is a plus when you want to catch a movie down the street.

Hands down, the best sushi in La Crescenta! (...not that there is much to compare it to...). There's another Blue Fish in Old Pasadena. But this one is a lot nicer, and the parking is free. BUT it is a bit pricey & the restaurant is tiny. Avoid going during peak dinner times--it gets super crowded & there is no waiting area. But there is a sign at the entrance politely asking customers to wait outside... which really isn't too bad unless its really cold, really hot, or raining. But the sushi quality is good, definitely worth the couple extra bucks. Try their Popcorn Lobster Roll--spicy tuna rolls topped with a huge mountain of fried lobster bits. It's delicious. And their albacore! It's amazing...

Need a quick sushi fix? Live in the La Crescenta Valley? This is your place to go. The Montrose location is where I've been going for my sushi cravings since I was quite little. The location is very easy to find and parking is no problem! If you go during the rush hours, they have a little wait but they recently opened a 2nd location right next door so seating pretty much doubled. Their sushi quality is not A+, but you wouldn't be going to Blue Fish for that kind of quality. Like I said before, quick sushi fix. They have a great lunch special so try to hit for that!

REALLY fresh, and even their ginger was top quality. Clean and comfortable environment only complaint was they play shitty radio music and have T.v's. i'd much rather have mellow japanese music.

I have been going to this place intermittently for years. Just went again a couple of nights ago and I still find it to be one of the freshest and tastiest, coupled with a great ambiance, sushi restaurants. With sushi, as with most things in life, you get what you pay for...that being said, it's very well-priced for the quality and amount that's served. I notice that a lot of people have posted "poor service" and I would like to touch on this issue. They make great food, therefore, THEY ARE VERY BUSY. If you expect a server to hang out with you and be at your every beckoning call, then try Benihana. Yes, the servers are whizzing to and fro, and take a little bit to get around to you sometimes, but it's not anything remarkable or inconvenient. We had dinner at the bar, which is always the way to go when eating sushi. We were in and out of there in about an hour. Definitely a must try for any type of sushi eater, i.e. from beginner to hard core. Bon appetit!

I've been to Blue Fish a few times, but the other day they went beyond my expectations. My favorite was the Albacore sashimi plate. Now, I could eat that all night! The texture of the fish was nearly melting away, but had the crunchiness of the shaved onion to support it. I also enjoyed the thai shrimp roll, which was quite textural, as well, with coconut battered shrimp and sprouts. it could be a bit much for some because it has peanut butter, but I enjoyed the contrast of the sweetness it provided. The only downside was that the service was a bit poky, but I'll still be returning for the albacore.

Yay! I'm a fan. I've been to blue fish multiple times and lets just say the sushi bar is sure to impress. I've always heard from friends and family that cheap sushi is no good. However, this place proves them wrong. For the amazingly, reasonable prices, you get high quality fish in every bite. Also, the service is great. It's a breath of fresh air, to walk into a sushi restaurant and not get bad attitude from the waiters. I can actually understand them when they talk to me! Don't mean to be racist but it's a burden in customer service. Love this place and recommend it for all occasions. My personal favorites are Red Dragon Roll and Shat Love. How cute of them to incorporate a little bit of Armenian into their menu--- definitely won me over ;)

  • Inga D.

One of my favorite sushi restaurants. Everything is extremely fresh, affordable pricing, very welcoming and friendly atmosphere, big selection of sakes and beers. All chefs are good and creative, but Erik is the best. My favorite is chunky salmon sashimi, salmon and yellowtail carpaccio.

Average prices for a sushi joint and great rolls. I only gave this restaurant 3 stars because I still need to try their sushi and sashimi, which I'm very particular about. The venue doesn't have good ventilation so you end up smelling like the food...mostly oily from whatever it is they deep fry from their kitchen. If you don't mind smelling like deep fried food, definitely take your date out to this joint. It's got exposed brick walls with high ceilings and dim lighting in the evening. It's a small restaurant, so if you come during the dinner rush, you might have to wait awhile for seats. Food. The soft shell crab was perfectly deep fried and sat on a bed of romaine lettuce with a ponzu like sauce drenched all over it. It was a bit small, but still good enough to share between two people. The specialty rolls come in 8 pieces and good enough to fill one person. The sushi portions are average from what I could tell with what my mom ordered and what the customers next to us ordered. I definitely need to come back to try their more adventurous sushi..uni, jap scallop, and maybe even monk fish liver. Service was average. I think there were only 2 waitresses working the tables so it was a little challenging flagging them down. Overall, they were friendly and quick. Parking is on the street and behind the restaurant. Definitely give this restaurant a shot if you're around the area and craving sushi rolls.

My wife and I ate at Blue Fish today and it was very good. My wife had chicken teriyaki and she said it was excellent. I had a Dynamite Roll, Spanish Mackrel sushi and a Spicy Scallop Hand Roll and all were very good, especially the Dynamite Roll. I thought the decor and ambience were great and the service I would rate as good but not the best I have had. I look forward to dining here again. My wife and I ate at a table and I am looking forward to sitting at the sushi bar next time.

  • JY C.

Horrible. Sushi rice had no flavor and a crumbly texture, which is a major fail for a sushi place right there. The fish were good, but were overwhelmed by the poor rice. If you understand sushi even a little, you know that it's all about the rice and the balance between the vinegar/sugar rice and a quality piece of fish. This place does not understand that fundamental rule. Compounding the sin of bad sushi rice is that a meal for two is about 30-50 bucks overpriced compared to much better restaurants in LA or NY, not including sake or drinks. Maybe the noodle dishes and rice bowls are good, but I'm not going back to find out.

I cant believe people actually complain about stupid things like the music was so loud okay then get up and leave and 1st of all the music is not loud at all. Ya tables are small thats why they opened up the other side blue fish is so amazing that they bought the place next to them. Ya when u walk in i guess they say welcome in japanese but they dont yell its just that all of them say it at the same time thats why maybe it sounds like that. Blue Fish is by far the most amazing place i have ever been too my waiters and waitresses have always been so nice and attentive i love Erik and Jeff they are the best chefs ever, nothing can compare to this place and trust me im a sushi fanatic and im obsessed with blue fish. Danny who is the owner is the best guy in the world and he knows how to serve his customers thats why we stay so loyal to him he always smiling and being so friendly with everyone always giving stuff out on the house to random tables, thats customer service skills. Hes the man and Herman coolest waiter. BEST SUSHI PLACE MY DAILY TO GO SPOT AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED. *PHILLY ROLL *FIRECRACKER * HEART ATTACK *SUPERMAN BURRITO * WHITE ROLL BEST OF THE BEST! OH AND THE MOST AMAZING SPICY MAYO AND EEL SAUCE. THIS PLACE SERIOUSLY ROCKS! GOOD JOB GUYS ALL OF U GOOD JOB! EVERYONE I EVER TOOK HERE FROM FAMILY TO FRIENDS TO EVERYONE THEY ALL LEFT SO HAPPY AND NOW THEY BECAME REGULARS. BOMB!

Blue Fish has the nicest ambiance for Japanese food in Montrose. I think their rolls are pretty good and they have a rockin' (and huge) seaweed salad. The best part about Blue Fish are the reasonably priced lunch specials. Definitely worth coming to for lunch. For under 10 dollars you get a very nice and light lunch. I recommend the sushi and sashimi combo

  • David E.

Summary: 4.5 (Changed to a 5 as its located in Montrose, close and really Good) SUPERMAN BURRITO - GREAT, A MUST!!!.....Anoush Roll - GREAT...Marilyn Mon-Roll - GOOD....2261 - GREAT....Crispy Rice - Good....Green Beans - OK Detail: If you want fresh, good portioned sushi for a descent price this is the place to go. If you're in the area definitely worth checking out. The SUPERMAN BURRITO is the best! All the other rolls are good. Again, its in Montrose and can't get any better than this.

My favorite Sushi spot. I've brought many a sushi-snob here who thought that surely it couldn't be THAT good, and walked out with them stuffed and raving. It can get pricey, though it's screamingly fresh and the sushi chefs are consistently friendly and professional. I do recommend sitting at the bar for better service. For a quick, not-bank-breaking working dinner I often order a Montrose "roll" to-go-- it's a green salad mixed with pieces of albacore, tuna and salmon sashimi, accompanied by 6 pieces of california roll (which I won't eat at most sushi places, but this one's crave-worthy). It's about $12 but plenty of food for a light-to-medium meal.

I love blue fish. They use excellent quality fish. I used to work at wholesale seafood company for few years so I know fish pretty well. This place is owned by one of my friend and I go there when I crave some sushi or sashimi. Recently they just expanded their restaurant and you can definitely go there and enjoy some sake and sushi. I think this place is one of the best place to dine In Montrose when u crave some Japanese. There are two Other japanese restaurant near them but it can't be compared to blue fish. Service is Super good and sushi men are Super fun and entertaining. I swear I don't know why sake Japanese across from blue fish has way more reviews, I had lunch and dinner twice but they were so whatever. I seriously grew up with sashimi and have pretty high standard when it comes down to food especially sashimi, but blue fish is way better. Can't even compare sake Japanese restaurant, they are more like (for non Asians? Fusion style?). If you want fresh authentic yet interesting sushi and sashimi experience, you gotta try blue fish!

I did enjoy my dine in here on a Sunday after a walk at the Farmer's market. I ordered a sashimi bowl and it came with a salad and soup. The miso soup tasted just right and wasn't too salty. The salad was also good and fresh. Then came the sashimi bowl, which was huge! I was real hungry that day and after this was after a workout, I still couldn't finish the food. The sashimi bowl is good, though I didn't like the salad like dressing on it and wished for a soy sauce, wasabi sweet type. You get more than what you pay for here. The people here are nice and attentive and especially the cooks there. Will stop by here again, if in the area.

yummy sushi! This place is among a couple Japanese places in Montrose that I was looking to try. Their sushi is pretty fresh and they have a pretty varied menu. We had: -tuna -baked lobster roll -Dynamite roll -Las Vegas Roll All the food we had was pretty good. I saw some orders being made that looked super delicious!! We just weren't sure what to order because they don't have pictures for everything....I think that would definitely have helped because usually I'm good at identifying sushi but sometimes the rolls at different places have strange names or are specialties. We sat at the sushi bar so we saw all the orders being made but didn't know what to order...but I guess we'll know for next time. This place is pretty small and gets pretty packed at nights (we went on a Friday). I can see why... the food is good, the service was friendly, and the sushi chefs were really nice and attentive. I went back another time during lunch and had the spicy tuna don which was pretty good. For 9 bucks you get a lot of fish (probably worth more than the chicken teriyaki bowl for sure because they barely give you any chicken)

The sushi is wonderful, we have never had a complaint about the food after going there for two years now. We love the Honolulu roll. The ladybug roll is great if you like crawfish (they call it baby lobster). One star docked for the meh wine list and the super loud trendy music.

Great place to go! the workers are all really nice which helps their service kudos, and the sushi is always fresh, just a tad pricy tho

  • Danny S.

Very over priced for what it is. The lobster roll was like eating rubber. The food was marginal at best. Kinda disappointed all around and They ran out of uni. Uni is the best thing at almost all sushi restaurants. Those who disagree are stupid. I'm just saying..... No disrespect, but you got to get right with some UNI. The Decor inside is nice but the seating has a sardine in a can type feel. Parking is kind of a problem the street is always packed but there is a parking lot in the back.

    (2)
  • Nicole Y.

I believe that it is Korean operated. The quality of the sashimi are very good. I ordered the uni sushi and a mixed sashimi salad and couldn't even finish. A bit pricey. But not bad.

I've been going here for a year now and didn't want to write a review till my opinion was final, I've been to too many extremely expensive sushi spots to settle with the winner being in my home town, it can't be, but it is, this place is not like other sushi restaurants, this place has it all, quality, service, modern looks. I'd be happy coming here every night! I usually get the tuna salad and miso soup maybe a handroll or two, followed by the amazing dessert, mochi. They even gave my whole group free green tea ice cream once! Definitely should try this place out if you're a sushi person.

Nothing beats fresh sushi! We sampled the fresh sashimi platter, dynomite, in and out, anoush and the red dragon. The best out of those was the anoush. Anoush actually is Armenian for you're welcome and hope you enjoy it.. so maybe it's a marketing thing to get more Armenians to come in but anyways. It's a small place and they do not take reservations. It's on a first come, first serve basis. Overall it got pretty noisy but I think we were the cause LOL, sorry we had over 12 people in my friend's b-day party. I'm super glad Montrose is finally pushing out the dusty, boring shops and getting a bit trendy!

I lived in Japan for some time and I have to say this place has some pretty fresh sushi. Too bad there's no ramen...I can't believe I may have to fly all the way back to Japan just to get a quality bowl on Misu Ramen :( But this Blue Fish is great! I've been eating here for years and it's always been fantastic!

  • Erin M.

I've decided to bring my rating down by a star....reason being their wait staff is attentive ....OVERLY attentive. Please do not hover over us when we are eating, don't ask us if everything is good every 5 minutes....I understand when its a quiet night there is less to do, but I would like to enjoy my meal, not be pestered about it. Food quality...still our favorite in the area though.

The service is almost non-existent. My husband & I walked in and were quickly seated, but waited about 5 minutes to receive a menu. In fact, I had to stop the busboy to ask for one. We waited another 5 minutes for a server to ask if we wanted something to drink. Feeling unsure about the place, I ordered simple tuna sashimi. There's not much you can do to really mess that up. My husband, ordered the Marilyn Mon roll. The plate arrived with 5-6 rolled pieces of sushi (scallops and a spicy tuna with daikon mixed in - I think). Next to the pieces of sushi was a huge goopy blob of something that resembled the mixture inside the sushi rolls. It looked awful and didn't taste much better. Looking at what the other patrons ordered on either side of us, it appeared that all of the rolls looked like it had the same mixture in them. We waited for our water glasses to be refilled, but it never happened. We decided to flag down our waiter and ask for the check. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this restaurant.

Was very pleasantly surprised by this little restaurant in Montrose. The sushi was fresh, portions generous, and the service friendly and attentive. The lunch special for $9.50, which I thought was going to be kind of meager, turned out to be filling and a real bargain! Would definitely go back.

Just drive over to LA for sushi. this place has the most bland sushi rolls i have ever tasted. Furthermore, i saw one of the sushi chefs straight up yell and almost make gestures to hit one of the female workers when I walked around the back to get something from my car... Really inappropriate. It was enough for me to never support this business. Mediocre food and demeaning its staff to full extent? i say just drive over to Glendale to Octopus or Burbank for Kabuki because this one is just not right.

  • David A.

The sushi is amazing and very fresh. Super man burrito is one of my favorites as so is the Thai Shrimp roll. If you have not been you must go atleast once. Its a bit pricey and you end up smelling like food by the time you get out but it is worth it!

We like going to Blue Fish because they are consistently good. You never get disappointed! Fresh great quality fish, friendly staff. It could get loud sometimes since it's a small place but overall, we keep going back and like the food. If you like baked rolls, you HAVE to try the white roll.. that's my fav. :) We also do a lot of take out from them.

I use to live on the westside where sushi restaurants were aplenty and very good quality. I moved to Montrose and tried several sushi places. On this street, there are 4 all within throwing distance of one another. This place is equivalent to what I use to frequent on the west side. We arrived before the dinner rush, the waitress was going to seat us next door (they have taken over the establishment next door), we head next door and the only thing available is at the sushi bar. We required a table since we had a child in our party. By then time we went back next door, the only open table was given away. We waited maybe 10 minutes for a table to open up. The staff was very apologetic for what happened and they delivered us a delicious albacore dish as a token of their apology. that was fair and great customer service. Because they attemped to rectify the misunderstanding, they have a repeat customer. If you're looking for a decent sushi place with great customer service, I would give this place a try.

Golden spicy tuna roll. Just order that and you'll be pleased as punch! I don't like sushi because it's cold. I want warm food. This dish is hot (spicy AND warm) and it's just so damn good! Tempura is boring, I wish it weren't. But that golden spicy tuna roll is amaze-balls.

The best hang out place in Honolulu. Their sushi is amazinggggg. Been dining at this place for many years and have noticed what a great expansion they have done to this place. They have a romantic dining section or a hip loud fun section. Def recommend this place to everyone. Must try the Anoush Roll and the Lobster Popcorn dish. To die for;)

Pricey but such a nice restaurant. It's my favorite place to eat in Montrose. The place is kid friendly and the food is always consistent. I understand that some of the dishes could be better especially for the money but the atmosphere and service make up for it to get my five stars. You should go there early to really appreciate the niceness of the place.

This was a pleasant surprise, my first time on the quaint little street in Montrose CA. We decided to try out a sushi restaurant and boy was it great. We will definitely be coming back. Just a not to the wise... They serve up some mighty large portions. It is a melt in your mouth experience. Everyone was pleasant and smiling. If you like sushi you will like Blue Fish. I recommend the spicy albacore hand roll... A full meal in itself. The Anoush roll is huge and a must. We also had the spicy albacore that just melted away like butter in the mouth. What was a must have on the menu is the crispy roll... You have to taste it yourself.

My favorite sushi restaurant in Montrose. The service is great. The food is excellent. Must try the shrimp chips, Anush roll ad shat lav roll. The food is always fresh. I love that they have outside sitting. The owner is usually there when we go and is always talking and greeting the customers.

The food is good but way too overpriced and the atmosphere is kind of chaotic. If I feel like spending $20 for a lunch special (with half the amount of food as other sushi places) and a vegetable roll I'd come back...otherwise it's too uncomfortable, overpriced, and the service is sub-par.

  • Henan J.

I never thought I would find any placethat would blow my sushi buds out the water but they did The sunset roll, las Vegas roll, pop-corn lobster & hot zone I can vouch for. A bit more on the pricier side but the food coma afterwards makes it worth it

Bad food and even worse service... Have walked by this place before and thought it looked nice so we finally ventured in for dinner. Right off the bat, was not impressed with the waiter's demeanor -- he was not very polite or friendly at all. He asked what we wanted to order and as I was looking at the menu trying to make a final decision, he gave me about 3 seconds and then said he'd just be back! His demeanor that entire night was to that effect. Then when food came it really was NOT good at all. VERY mediocre. We ordered the appetizer platter, which came with only three scallops. I double checked the menu and verified that it should have four scallops so I pointed this out to the waiter. He went away and then came back and said the scallops are by weight and sometime they are bigger and sometimes smaller and since we got two bigger pieces (and they were NOT big) they gave us only three pieces. He concluded with "and that's the explanation" and walked off!! Well, then their menu should not specify four pieces! DUH. Anyway, first and last time there. Waste of money and calories.

Best sushi place in this part of town. Service: Great and attentive. Parking: There is plenty of parking around the area. You may have to drive down the street, but its not that bad. Price: not terribly expensive Food: Fresh Fresh Fresh My usual is the Chirashi. A good assortment of fish and the slices are huge. I split an Alaskan Roll with the table. There are a lot of differerent crazy rolls. If your waiting for a table, there is a wait. Only con is busienss hours. They do close pretty early for a restaurant 9pm or 10pm.

I really don't understand how this place doesn't have five stars. I've been coming here for sushi with my family and boyfriend for years and I am never disappointed. The sushi is fresh and soooo delicious. Literally the best sushi in la crescenta, la Canada, Glendale, and Pasadena. And Edward is an amazing sushi chef!! He's one of our favorites here, but you really can't go wrong with any of them. You're totally missing out if you pass on blue fish. The Anoush roll is a must get and the caterpillar is pretty awesome too.

This place is a lot of fun to go for lunch or dinner. There is usually a lot of people waiting for tables at dinner, which can be a bummer. But, if you live near by, the sushi travels just fine. The waitresses are all nice, and they can always make a good suggestion. The Johnny Role is a thing of pure beauty. Give it a shot. Plus there is lots of parking in a huge lot behind it.

Even though this place is a bit pricy, its well worth it! My first time trying sushi was at Blue fish and besides the food, I had the best experience. The staff is friendly and social. My favorite is the main chef, Danny. This guy is simply awesome. He takes sake shots with all his favorite all-time customers and livens up the room. The decor and environment is very exciting. Plus they have convenient parking right out side. Definitely give this place a shot.

One of my favorite sushi reastaurants in L.A. Very friendly, warm, generous staff. Outstanding chefs. I recommend you sit at the bar, have a sake before your food, tell the chefs to make whatever they'd like, drink green tea WITH your sushi, buy the chefs some beer, sit back and enjoy a fantastic meal. The chefs have a tip box on their counter, drop in some bills in addition to tipping the waitresses. You're welcome.

I ate their last night with my son for the first time and will never go back. Granted I did not order their sushi, instead I ordered a Teri chicken/tempura combo. I was in a state of shock when my plate arrived, the rice was huge, lots of vegetable tempura and a four inch long by three inch wide by 1/8th inch thick chicken piece. I am nit kidding when I say 1/8th thick, I didn't think you could cut chicken so thin, so of course it was over done, dry and chewy. Talk about being skimpy with the main dish and having the nerve to charge $12.95 for the dish. Extremely disappointed and the waitress needs to stop walking around and work.

We were planning on going to Three Drunken Goats for a quick dinner before heading downtown for a concert. Guess what? Goats was closed for renovations. I had heard from a couple locals that they liked Blue Fish and it was right across the street. We also figured that it wouldn't take long to eat since we had time constraints. We sat down and looked at the menu. There was an entire page dedicated to sushi rolls. To me, that's a bad sign. It's like a wine list featuring Kendall-Jackson wines. There's a lack of daring and only doing the conventional for uninspired diners. So, we stayed away from the rolls and ordered the two donburis. My donburi was an assortment of raw fish. My girlfriend's was eel. I really enjoyed my bowl. Good fish and plenty of rice. I'm always confused why Japanese restaurants are so stingy with rice. It's not expensive like the fish and it fills-up a guy like me. It was a satisfying meal, that was easy on the wallet. My GF's donburi was identical to mine except the sashimi was replaced with eel - a lot of eel. I tried her eel and it was good, but it was an unrealistic amount of eel for a person to eat (and successfully digest). The service was uneven. Another downside was that my chair was constantly bumped by the wait staff. It's wasn't like my chair was even sticking that far into the aisle. Even worse, a little boy grabbed my jacket which was hanging on the back of the chair. Sorry, but I don't consider my jacket a hand towel. Parents, keep your kids in control. Ultimately, we were done with dinner with so much time to spare, we had time for drinks at Kendall's Brasserie before the show.

This place is prettyyy bomb for a sushi place located in the small town of la crescenta. It's very fresh and clean and the waiters are all super nice. I go here a lot and never did it disappoint me. My family always comes here for their raw shrimp and uni. DROOOL. Their uni is first of all just amazinggg and their raw shrimp just melts in your mouth! The prices are usual for sushi. The rolls are also delicioussss. Last time I got their dynamite roll and it was super good. You can also get free food on the house if the sushi men like you! HAHA but this place is just a cute and cozy sushi place if you don't wanna go loud and busy!

Wow looks like this place has gotten a really bad rap. I had dinner with a gf here a week ago and we ordered the albacore salad, agedashi tofu, some uni, yellowtail sashimi and a couple rolls (i ordered wayyy too much because i was starving). I really wasn't expecting much because I had tried their food when they had first opened about 2 years ago and wasn't particularly impressed. There must have been a change of ownership because the food was really good. The portions were huge, the sushi was fresh and service was prompt and straight-forward. Trust me this place is worth (another) try.

This is the best sushi in glendale/burbank/montrose/la-canada area hands down. Highly underrated and highly recommended. So glad I found this, which is close to my house. I dont have to drive to pretentious stereotypical crowded LA, downtown, century city, or Hollywood for good sushi. Parking is free and ample. it is close to the mountains making the area nice and scenic. The air is always crisp up here. As for the food, it is amazing. Octopus salad, baked mussels, oysters (depends on time of year), albacore, uni, veggie tempura, seaweed salad, and in-n-out roll are all winning items. My top 5 sushi spots in california without a doubt. And service was friendly too.

Went here tonight with my boyfriend only because the new sushi place across the street, Sake, was closed. It was our first time, but I had high expectations because I had heard that this place was pretty pricey. That's fair, right? High prices should equal good food. Anyway, we were greeted warmly and seated at a 2-person table. Service was prompt...a little too prompt if you ask me. My boyfriend and I came in around 35 minutes before closing time and I think they wanted us out of there quickly. I also had to use the restroom, but I really wish I held it in. I'm not super picky about restrooms, but I do want it to be clean and smell fresh. I assumed that their restroom would be average, if not, above because the rest of the restaurant seemed well decorated and attended to. However, there were random puddles on the floor that seemed questionable and it had a weird smell to it. Invest in an air freshener! Food came quick (obviously!). My boyfriend and I shared an order of Spanish Mackerel, Yellowtail, Salmon, Spicy Tuna roll, and Spicy Yellowtail roll. We also had something called the Red Mountain roll. I wouldn't order the Red Mountain roll again. Nothing special--in fact, none of their rolls are. They're all California Roll based, and pretty boring. The rest of the food was pretty mediocre. Also, I didn't appreciate the little 'show' that came with my meal. The korean sushi guys here flirt with the waitresses. One of them is super cocky and says the dumbest things in Korean. Too bad for him, I am Korean and understood every word he said. I came out of there less than satisfied, but still ok.....until now. I have symptoms of food poisoning, so just to be safe, I am not eating here again!

Food is Great! Service sucks! I hate bad service. The place is far too small with far too many people working there to wait 25 minutes just to get your drink and place your order.

The food was good, but I prefer Sake. The service here was absolutely terrible! It took them twenty minutes just to get my check and they brought my appetizer out last, not to mention on a Tuesday afternoon!

Ordered the Chirashi-zushi today. Disappointed. The salmon was really delicious. The albacore was also very good. But the other items ... not sure if that was hamachi ... it looked like processed hamachi if there's such a thing. No flavor. Maguro ... same deal. My #1 question is: why were there thinly sliced RED ONIONS all over everything? Er ... if you eat an onion, can you really taste anything else? I can't. Ugh. Why also were there 'rakyo' (pickled onions) and 'fukujinzuke' there? 'Rakyo' would be nice as an appetizer if I were drinking, but not in Chirashi. Fukujinzuke ... er... usually served with curry, not sashimi. Very odd. Disappointment. Why not 'choppa' (thinly shaved cabbage) or shredded raw daikon or carrot instead? I'll still go to Blue Fish but I certainly won't try Chirashi anymore. *Service from the female server was good; she was very sweet and took time to tell us about some of the items. The male server seemed rushed and stressed; chill out man!

My favorite sushi place in the area. There are 2 other blue fish restaurants that I know of and as far as I know they are the same owners. This place is always busy but they do their best at seating and serving you quickly.

The food here is neither underwhelming, nor memorable. It's about average. When I went there this week, the service was admittedly better than I had ever seen it. The wait staff appears to have changed-- thank goodness. Just a few months ago, the waitress would not let us hold onto the menu. Some people like to start off light, and order as they go--after trying to convey this in a very nice way, the woman became argumentative and said there was no reason we should hog the menu. Excuse me? The place was half full. This time around, the waitresses were friendlier. We enjoyed the new decor, but the food was not as good as I remembered it to be.

The sushi is just okay but the real issue is the painfully loud music. To pricey for the quality. There is a dog friendly patio were the music is less abbrasive.

WORST SUSHI PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO, I HOPE THEY GO OUT OF BUSINESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could give this a zero. The fish was old and tough. The waitress brought us the wrong fish and tried to tell us it was our fault she didn't understand. When we refused to eat it she immeditely told us that was fine she was still making us pay for it.

Excellent sushi! I've only been there once, but I really love the sushi here! Blue Fish is small but quaint and really a great local place for sushi. I think it's among the better sushi spots I've been to. My friend and I sat at the bar and were served quickly! The servers were constantly refilling my Iced Green Tea, and they were really friendly. The Sushi Chefs were also really friendly and made stuff that was not on the menu. In fact, they gave us a few free dishes! I really enjoyed the experience. Another thing I noticed about Blue Fish was that their fish was so fresh! I'm comparing this place to Crazy Fish in Beverly Hills (which is known for being a great sushi place), and I must say that Crazy Fish pales in comparison. Blue Fish's fresh fish makes Crazy Fish look like day-old fish!

I would have to say that this place is one of the best sushi spots in and around LA. Everything is fresh and the cuts of fish are huge! I've never had a bad experience here and I've been here quite a bit. The guys at the sushi bar are friendly and will always give you something new to try on every visit. The service is great and the prices are reasonable.

I've been coming since it opened about five years ago or so. Loved it then, still love it now. The salmon is fresh, nice and fatty and melts in your mouth. The white tuna is very good, too. I don't understand the bD comments about the service -- I have always found the waitresses to be very friendly and helpful, and I've probably eaten here 50+ times. Have always been a big supporter of this place, never thought to leave a review. One of the best sushi places I have ever been to.

I was in the area with a friend visiting and decided to go eat sushi. We ended up at Blue Fish without any knowledge nor expectations. The food was excellent! We tried various sushi and sashimi dishes and all was delicious. Next time I am in this part of town I'll stop by with my lady. I will definately go back.

It's fine. I would go if someone suggested meeting there, but I would prefer to drive to Izayoi. If I was not in the mood for driving, it would be fine, again, if a friend suggested meeting there, but it will not be my first choice. The service I got at the bar was wonderful. The gent who was taking care of my sushi needs was wonderful, warm, helpful. Unfortunately, they do not carry the random things that I crave...I doubt it is their choice since I am sure the clientelledoesn't ask for the things I crave...why carr something that will not sell. I cannot fault them for that. I will note that they have a good wine selection. Many sakes to choose from (though I prefer the price point of other places such as Nishi-Ya, and Izayoi.) For those who enjoy fun rolls and are entertaining a large group, I think this place will hit the spot. If I were a roll-type girl, I would have a blast. The roll selection was creative and appealing. I wouldn't knock this place. This quality of fish was good and the consideration of the sushi chef was greatly appreciated. Give it a try and let us all know.

I lost my Montrose eatery virginity last night at Blue Fish. And it was good. Blue Fish has a decent vegetarian selection, and everything appears extremely fresh and well-prepared. Getting in was a little sketchy-- there was a wait, and no one seemed to be crossing anyone off the list after they were seated. We almost got seated right away before we realized there was a party of four in front of us. But once we got in, service was good, friendly, and pretty fast, considering how crowded it was. I got the excellent, fresh, fragrant, and massively portioned garlic stringbeans, although half the giant plate was a green salad (good salad, though!). I also got the seaweed salad, which was pretty much the same seaweed salad you get at 99% of Japanese restaurants. Which is a good thing, because that is the kind of seaweed salad I like. My sushi choices were the avocado rolls, the vegetable rolls, and the tempura vegetable rolls. My friends ordered the Thai shrimp sushi, which, if I ate shrimp, would totally be my choice, the candy cane sushi, and a bunch more fishy things I don't remember the names of. But in any case, it all looked really, really good. They appear to be the masters of Giant Monster Mutant Sushi. If you order almost any of the "special" sushis (sushis? Sushii? What the heck is the plural of sushi?), they will likely be as big as your head. I ordered the veggie tempura rolls and could really only eat one. And if you know me, you know I can put away some serious sushi. My dining companions struggled with the giant fish roe rolls and can probably get some serious dates now with their cheek-stuffing abilities. I'm just sayin'. So good food, good service, good company. Good night.

My lunch here was satisfactory. I was turned-off by a strong fish smell when I first walked inside, so opted to sit outside on the patio. I was surprised they didn't offer any lunch/combinaton specials as the rest of the menu was a bit pricey for a weekday lunch in Montrose. I ordered the yellotwail sushi (2 pieces) and a spicy tuna handroll. Both were brought out promptly and my iced tea was refilled as needed. The yellowtail was good, but I did think the pillow of rice it was served on was on the small side in comparison to other sushi restaurants, and the spicy tuna mixture was average. My order of vegetable tempura came out about 10 minutes after the sushi -it was not my favorite as it was oily and not as golden brown as I like it. With tax and tip, my bill was $30.00

My cousin is a regular, we try to be whenever we can get up that way. The food is excellent and the staff is awesome. They have a very interesting selection of rolls- a lot are built on the California Roll for the amateur but we tend to avoid those, we do a few of the fried rolls, but mainly the spicy rolls. Anything with albacore is AMAZING! Love the albacore sashimi and the 2261 (spicy albacore). They also have very good green tea ice cream. If the place isn't packed (i.e. not on a Friday or Saturday night) sit at the bar and get to know the chefs, especially if it is your birthday, get sake bombs- super fun!

Oh Blue Fish, how I wanted to like you, maybe even love you, but alas, you have failed me. Like others have complained the service licks. No joke, it was awful. Seriously unless you have a seat at the bar, the terrible service is not worth dealing with. Go elsewhere. While I've been to Blue Fish on more than one occasion but after this last time, I just can't manage to give this restaurant a good score. I mean listen to this. Me and the BF decided to stop by Blue Fin to indulge in sushi. Well it was crowded at the bar, so we setteled on a table. After marking our menu selections on the sheet provided, we handed it to our waitress adding two orders of miso soup and an edamame. Our soups and edamame were promptly brought out to the table as we awaited our sushi and sashimi orders. Well, time passed. Two girls even came in and were seated at the bar as we waited for our meals to arrive. I watched them order, eat, pay the bill and leave before we saw our meal. Even worse -- the waitress came and asked us if we wanted ANYTHING ELSE?!? As if our bare table was to signal we had already completed our meal over the duration of time we had been there! I wish we could want anything else, in fact we wanted EVERTHING ELSE! The nerve. It became too much we had to leave. We asked for our bill but they just let us leave without paying for the miso and edamame. I think they felt bad for making us wait for-ev-er!

I live about 45 minutes from this sushi place and will happily sit in traffic on 4 different freeways for their sushi. I'm a "sushi roll" lover. I love the combinations they have in their sushi. My absolute favorite is the Thai Coconut Shrimp roll. Yum!

We finally went to Blue Fish... heard so much about it... both good and bad. Sushi is definitely well worth it. Very fresh, tasty and sizeable portions. Service is definitely not their strength. It is tight, good for no more than 4 in your party. I would definitely go back again. Next time, I'll know not to order so much food. Another thing, since they are very crowded, they don't want you lingering after your meal. They try to get you out quickly.

I really like the sushi here (usually get the rolls with albacore). My favorite is the 2261 roll. Its always fresh and the portions are pretty big. However, a few times I have experienced eating sushi here that wasn't made with love. They are inconsistent sometimes, but usually it hits the spot. Expect to wait a bit in the evenings because this place is packed. I like this one more than the new one that opened in Pasadena.

This place was MUCH better five years ago. The quality isn't as good, and I've never really been much of a fan of their service. Their Johnny roll has always been my favorite, but honestly, it's just not the same as before. And just recently I had my usual spicy tuna roll, and it just didn't taste right. After being a regular for so long many years ago and coming back after quite some time.... it's just better I stay away from this place. There are waayy better sushi bars out there. This place is just too overrated and not to mention.... way too overpriced for nothing.

I've been here twice - once shortly after they opened, which we moderately enjoyed, then again a few months later. The second visit was utterly unpleasant. The service was poor both times, but that second visit was belabored by lazy wait staff and destroyed with fetid fish, and we will not return. Passers-by recommended Sushi Manster up the street, which has since become our neighborhood sushi spot. Blue Fin has atmosphere and zero else.

blue fish has really good quality-fresh sushi! the uni here was soooooooooo goood! they gave me two free uni sushi on the house! edit______ So i came here several times after review it and ive grew to like it here even more each time. I dont understant the neg, reviews and i also dont understand how fresh the fish can be at a montrose restaurant. ITS GOOD AS SUSHI GEN. reallly. and they cut you the BIGGEST SLAB OF FISH EVERRRRRRRR. and try to sit at the bar...they will treat you really welll and give you alot of free sushi...and throw in some fresh&most juicccy oysters. and when you order like a certain amt of sushi the nice sushi men will add in a couple more for free. its always to leave them some tip since they give you so much freeee sushi. AS TO WHAT TO ORDER..GET SALMON.i know its very typical but their salmon here is SO good&fat just try it. & the albacore comes with lots of onions&some sauce. Halibut is very good. Uni is fresh, mackerel is yumyum, & cant forget the yellowtails! i wanted to try the toro...its about $11 for two. maybe on my next visit. anyways as for the rolls...i tried the LadyBug & it was so gooood! it was like a california roll STUFFED with real crab meat..toppped with baked lobster and drizzled with yummysauces. I heard good stuff about the popcorn lobster but....i personally dont LOVE fried rolls. it gets realllly busy especiallly during weekends so try making reservations or goign a little early. I LOVE BLUE FISH

Bluefish is GREAT! It's been our go-to sushi spot for a few years now. Fish is always fresh and delicious! Never had a bad experience here. The quality is always on point. Chef Herman is awesome!!! Not only is he a great chef, but he's also hilarious! GREAT customer service. Love sitting at the sushi bar with him. :) Favorites: Marilyn Mon-roll Superman Burrito Any salmon sushi or sashimi :) Plenty of parking in the back (giant lot) in case you can't find any on the street.

Boyfriend's dad recommended this place to us, so we checked it out! There is a front entrance and a back entrance, which is so convenient. Ambiance is fun and open and good for any occasion. We came around 1 on a Saturday, and it was at about half capacity. The service is quick and they keep your water glasses full, which I always appreciate! The names for the rolls are super entertaining and legitimately kept boyfriend's dad laughing, which was hilarious for me to watch. We ordered the: Victor Roll: this has everything in the world on it. It was good, but the least loved of the three. I am a fan of baked rolls, but this one was just a little too "busy" for me. However, still good, would eat again. Dragon Roll: this has some giant pieces of eel on the ends! This one was my favorite probably. I really liked it! It wasn't mind blowing, but a solid roll. Caterpillar roll: this is one of my favorites most of the time. It was so good! Again, not mind blowing, but tasty and good portion size! At the end of the day, it was about $45 and we were full and well fed! This place won't change your life, but it is a solid choice.

My only disappointment is not going to this place sooner, and it right under my nose. My friend and I were craving sushi last Saturday, and decided to give this place a try since it's so close to my house. As we walked in, they sat us right away. We went to the Izakaya section, and not to the regular restaurant. They're next door, separated by a wall anyway. We ordered edamame and miso soup as starters. The waiter also recommended the crispy rice tuna so we ordered that. Since I love spicy tuna we ordered the Anush Roll which had fresh spicy tuna over small California rolls along with fresh tomatoes cut on top. Then we ordered the Special Library Roll which has fresh albacore on top with small amount of caviar. And last but not least, we ordered the Fire Roll - I think that's what it was called. But it literally was on fire! They had a small amount of small on the side of the plate which was on fire. The presentation of their dishes were very neat, organized, and very appealing. The waiters could not have been more sweet. They checked on us often to make sure we were taken care of. One of them even spent some time with us saying some jokes and making us laugh. We left this place beyond satisfies and happy. I can not wait to take my family and friends.

My son chose where he wanted to go and I think it will be my last time going to Blue Fish. Most of the time the service isn't good. My water was not refilled and our waiter never checked on my son and I once. The prices are too high and they have no lunch specials on the weekend. We got one roll, one small order of vegetable tempura, a small green salad and a miso soup for $32.00. I won't be back.

Met my sister at this lovely spot in montrose. She has been Raving about this place for a few months and wanted me to try it out before I headed back to Atlanta. It's in a cute quaint shopping area and the restaurant in kinda small and cute. A nice place for a meeting or just to have a quick lunch. I sat down and scanned the menu which has a lot to choose from and I decided on the tiger rolls and Plum wine,my sister had something on her plate I can't remember and fried lobster... I think. It was very tasty! They only open for a few hours early in the day so I had to hurry and order some Las Vegas rolls. All I can remember was my chopsticks kept going from plate to plate because everything was so good! I think this will be my new sushi spot when I get to Cali. Even though they close early and I did get there last min, we weren't rushed at all to eat and leave. They even asked if I wanted to order something before I left. :)

No matter how many times Blue Fish disappoints me, I always find myself wanting to give it another chance to redeem itself. I've been coming here for going on a decade now and it used to be the best value for sushi on the block. Unfortunately, after countless changes in ownership/management and a never-ending hike in prices, Blue Fish is no longer on my short list. The quality of fish is relatively good compared to other sushi restaurants in the area, but there is absolutely no way that it's good enough for the prices. $9 for 2 pieces of uni nigiri, $8 for salmon nigiri... more expensive than Sushi Gen and nowhere near comparable in terms of quality. The Chirashi Bowl used to be $19.99 and was a really fantastic value for super generous cuts of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore, shrimp, and tamago. Even if the fish wasn't the freshest available, the portion/value was unbeatable. However, as with everything on the menu, the price has increased to $26 in the last couple months and I don't think it's worth it anymore. Everything is really, really pricy for what it is and I just can't get on board with it especially when the service is always consistently bad. On my most recent visit, we were seated at a table with no soy sauce dishes or napkins, the waiter was not knowledgeable about the menu, and my water was never refilled throughout the meal. I watched as waiters meandered around the floor, fully in view of my empty glass, and nobody thought to come over. I think most of Blue Fish's patrons favor heavily sauced rolls and write these off as good sushi. Blue Fish's rolls and fried/baked dishes are tasty and these would be completely fine if the prices reflected the standards. If Blue Fish is going to charge outlandish prices, it needs to have the product and service to back it up. I don't understand.

Disgusting. If you dont mind C grade raw fish (tuna, etc) in your spicy tuna hand roll, and speciaty rolls then by all means stick around. Then, you'll only have to deal with uncooked, flour in your tempura based rolls... Yuck/ew! When I showed the waiter, he asked "where did you get that fron?" Lol wow. He then asked "what is that?" As if I knew. He took the one piece that I showed him instead of the entire role. :( then the other pieces again had uncooked flour pieces. They then brought the receipt without comping the roll, and it wasnt until I caught it that they removed the roll. Oh and the rice is not sushi rice... Its like steamed asian rice... Terrible for sushi. This place was my favorite and go to a few years ago. The quality went to just "o.k." A yr or so ago, But this will be my last visit. Since they've expanded, their quality has taken a serious toll, sacrificing flavor of the fundamental ingredient - fish. Sad. I will miss the Blue Fish I once enjoyed. I would give them a negative star if I could.

Omg. Try the Superman burrito, its delicious. Also must tries on my list are the Lobster Popcorn, with that awesome house sauce...and the baked lobster hand roll. So bomb. This place is kid friendly with plenty of families there and if you're lucky, they will throw in an orange infused with plum wine! Yummy...

If you like this place an gave it 5 stars, you live in a secluded part of LA and don't know what good fish is. The spicy tuna tastes old and dry. And the ground tuna (not fresh tuna) tasted old. I ordered the shrimp tempura and it also tastes horrible. Too much artificial crab meat. When I order a shrimp tempura, I expect real shrimp tempura not artificial crab meet. Yellowtail and halibut tasted old and fishy. Halibut had too much chiso leaf and yellowtail the coloring was off. I know my sushi folks... Everything tasted horrible and when I returned the shrimp tempura roll they charged me for it and gave me a hard time to take it off the bill. Overpriced, not good quality sushi. Stay away, unless you have no palate and think all sushi is good...which is what the people who come here probably think.

I love this location and the setting is very nice. The brick walls are a nice touch. In case you don't find parking in the front, there is parking in the back. The servers were very nice and the food was brought out quickly. I've been trying the seared albacore at every sushi location I go too, and I was not impressed. The slices were too thin and I couldn't properly taste the albacore. The spicy edamame was delicious, and so was the white fish roll we got.

May be ..may be.... may be i am wrong but the sushi here and rolls have too much "stuff" on them that all taste the same for me...they have delicious rolls, but you see everything in and on them besides the fish itself...also , i want to talk about services: it is a small space and usually they have 3-5 waiters who stand very close to you and constatnly look at the table, and sometimes it gets annoying when somebody looks at your mouth when you are trying to fit the roll in...i did not like the service at all....i might come back but for to go only...

We've eaten here 4 times and have loved it overtime. Yesterday we went in for lunch and ordered one of their their lunch specials: for $12.95 we got a spicy yellowtail roll, which was delicious and quite a generous portion, a bowl of udon soup and tempura. It was a very filling and yummy lunch. We ordered iced tea and they made sure our glasses were always full. The service is excellent, always with a smile and they all yell out and greet you as you enter or say goodbye when you leave. We will keep coming back and next time try some of the amazing rolls I saw coming out to the other tables.

Came here for dinner tonight with my inlaws for a party of 6. We were seated promptly and they took our order right away. We ordered lots of rolls and sushi but the hot dishes came out first. Udon, tempura, and yakisoba. I don't understand the reasoning behind that but whatever.. it's a small detail. We got our food and while nothing was bad ... nothing stood out. That seems to be the norm these days. Sigh.

Amazing customer device Very fresh fish Cool set sup - cool joint Did I mention amazing customer service!!!!! Our sushi chief was super super sweet!!! So coming back here. Thank god I found this place. Update: stir way from the lobster dish, it was pretty fishy.

Bluefish is probably the best spot for sushi. Yes it's a little pricier than the bajillion other sushi places on Honolulu but hey if you want quality sushi sometimes you have to pay a little more. To be honest I don't think price should even be a factor. If you're going to shovel in raw fish into your body a couple extra dollars really isn't that big of a deal. Anyways the fish is always fresh and the rolls always amazing. You don't have to worry about your rolls being drenched in sauce or smelling fishy, tasting fishy. It does get busy on the weekends and during lunch and they do close from 3:3o to 4:30 so don't go during that time! I typically go around 1 or 2 and it's usually no wait at all.

I love Blue fish, my only concern is their service. They get busy very quickly and their waiters sometimes lack the ability to juggle. My latest ventures to blue fish I've ordered pick up and I haven't regretted it. Sitting in takes longer than I would prefer, so take out is my favorite option. The rolls vary from different tastes. Their fish is always fresh and tasty, we order the crispy rice, the Anush roll, Albacore sushi, and a hot zone roll. Parking is easy, park in the back lot it's free As far as whether to choose blue fish or sake, definitely blue fish. Everything from the food to the dine in experience is much better.

My favorite local sushi restaurant!!! Bluefish is an all time favorite of both my friends and family. I've been coming here since I was in high school and I used to come at least once a week. You can't go wrong with anything you order because all their fish is extremely fresh. Some of my favorite things to order are: Albacore with crispy onions - albacore sashimi with ponzu sauce and a mountain of their amazing crispy onions in the middle Anoush roll - I like to replace the sp tuna roll with ca roll. This is my all time favorite roll, it's a basic roll covered with salmon, tomatoes, avocados, and crispy onions. Tomatoes and sushi might sound odd but I think it complements well with the crispy onions Popcorn scallop appetizer - deep fried scallops with a spicy mayo/mayo sauce (I like to ask for the sauce on the side) Yellowtail collar - but you might want to order this right when you're seated for it does take at least 20 minutes for it to come out Chirashi - assorted sashimi from salmon, yellowtail, tuna, albacore, shrimp, red snapper on a bed of sushi rice. Yum! This is definitely big enough for two Note they do they have ample amount of parking in the back. They don't take reservations and they tend to get super packed on Fridays and Saturdays even though they expanded their restaurant.

This review is for the toro sushi only! We couldn't try more sushi as we were on a mission (to hit as many sushi bars as possible before they closed.) My friend described toro as the best and he was right. It was delicious! Very fresh, rich and flavorful. Service was nice and the decor pleasant. Parking was great because it's free after 9 pm!

The best sushi in Burbank I love the ladybug .There prices are currently higher than what you will expect to pay for sushi but it is well worth it .I love there rice wine. Ten dollars for the large rice wine not bad at all.My only problem with this place they close at 330 for lunch and don't open back up until 5 for dinner.

Love coming here with friends so we could order different things to share. I really love how clean & deliciously spicy they make their spicy tuna roll. I almost always order their popcorn lobster roll too. They get really busy during peak hours. I love how they have expanded to the next door as well & combined the two rooms that used to part of the Wacky Wok Chinese food RIP which was my favorite Chinese joint in Glendale. The crispy rice is a great staple to get here as well. I always ask for them to add avocado on it. Their Thai shrimp roll is a little unconventional & definitely not true Japanese, but is so good to not pass up on it. Prices are on the higher side but you need to consider the location too.

Was there today with my family and friends. The experience was overall good. The food is good, fresh. The prices are normal, so no complaints there either. Now the service. There were several servers and this young guy, who I HOPE was in training. He brought a salad we didn't order, then a roll that we didn't order and later an extra nottle of beer that we didn't order as well. Come on dude, how many times can you bring food and drink that wasn't ordered. We decided to keep these extras just not to put him in a bad situation or trouble from management, and we hope that he was having a bad day and those mistakes are not something he makes with every customer. So, 3 stars.

Their sushi is phenomenal!! Their prices are a little more expensive then across the street at Saki but nevertheless, I love their sushi.

    (4)
  • Risa Y.

Very expensive, but I keep coming back because their food is pretty decent and they have variety. From the many items on the menu that I have tried, my favorite was probably the kushi-yaki. They bring a grill over so that you can warm up the kushi-yaki over the grill. (see picture) Pricey but worth it and you can't find something like this around the area. I have also tried the eel bowl, which is more like eel over rice. I have to say that it is pretty good, but I think $17 for it is a bit too overpriced. Yellow tail collar is also pretty good here and the quality of the sashimi and sushi is probably the best in the area. The reason why I can't quite give this place over 3 stars is because of their price. Some dishes, I understand, but there are just some dishes that are questionable. The service here is always a hit or a miss as well. But if you are looking for a nice Japanese restaurant/ Izakaya around the area, Blue Fish isn't so bad~!

  • Angelie D.

I do have to admit, this is one of the better sushi places in this area. Along with good sushi, this place looks very trendy and gives off a very fresh, cool vibe. The sushi is a bit pricey, but worth it if you take in everything this place has to offer. This place is always packed so count on waiting a bit on a busy night. Top favorites was the albacore and uni. We also ordered a special roll with seared ahi on top and spicy tuna inside. This was topped with a sweet sauce and jalapenos. Pretty great! They are very generous with the wasabi and ginger, so no need to refill on those to condiments, unless you are absolutely obsessed with it!

    (3)
  • Roxana Q.

4 stars for Blue Fish! I love coming here whenever I'm meeting friends who live nearby. I don't ever come here for true sushi or sashimi but rather for their specialty rolls. The crispy rice & spicy tuna is good but on this particular visit, the rice was a bit TOO crispy. The best thing here is the Thai Shrimp roll. It's definitely not what I would call sushi but it doesn't matter because it's legit! Crispy fried shrimp & peanut butter + some green veggie (either cucumber or celery, I can't remember). Either way, order this! Another great item is the seared Ahi roll. This place expanded to accommodate the demand but it's still small :( A pet peeve of mine is when you're seated REALLY close to the next table. So close that you can't get out of your seat without intruding on their meal. Well that's this place. I had to push the table aside to get out of my seat without bumping the next table. Parking on Honolulu can be a bitch too so try the lots right behind on either side of the street.

They used to be so good and their fish was so fresh I've gone twice recently and it just tastes so much like fish how. It isn't as fresh and there's so much sauce to mask the taste. I mean it's ok but I've found better

One of the best sushi restaurants in town - and I'm happy it's in my town! I love Blue Fish. Their sushi is always so fresh and delicious. The customer service is great, with very quick service and very reasonable prices. Funny waiters too. Anytime I need my sushi fix, and if I'm near my home of Montrose, I will come here. Thanks for being so great! :)

  • Cynthie M.

Good food but service is awful. Have had several bad experiences with service from here as seems like always either understaffed w waitresses or just don't care. This time waitress didn't turn in half our food order, I never got my table set up even after asking I ended getting up and getting it myself, didn't come back to check on us til end so didn't get opp to reorder drinks.. the gentleman cleaning tables was more concerned about helping us than the waitress, and no accommodation was made for losing our order and cruddy service. So.. great food if you're willing to put up w cruddy waitresses and management.

  • Jess D.

Another one of my favorite sushi joints! There is always almost a wait, and I dont mind cause I really can't do anything about it (no reservations) What to get: Spicy tuna on crispy rice Heart attack (it's not too spicy) Honolulu roll (creamy fried goodness) Red dragon roll (crunchy and delicious) I've also tried the popcorn lobster roll but really wasn't a fan

  • Ara S.

Held off coming here for a few years since the first time they opened. Felt the quality to be mediocre and overpriced. Then I saw a friend have something called the "sushi burger", whom had also recommended I try the superman burrito after I had the sushi burrito truck the week before. I was just disappointed in the size of the dishes. The sushi burger was tiny, the superman burrito even tinier. Not giving a bad review, just not my cup of tea. If your salmon is orange and not red (wild caught Atlantic), you shouldn't be charging $7 for two pieces of sushi. Just my humble opinion.

    (4)
  • Shaun C.

Best of the best. Superman burritos are the best in the world. I wish they would stop raising the prices. I had to trade in my Camry for a Yaris and cancel HBO to keep eating here. Try eating earlier on the weekends as it gets pretty busy.

After a great hike in the angels crest I wanted something light and fresh and filling, not too many sushi joints open for lunch but yelp help me find this place in montrose a few miles from my hike. We ordered the seared ahi tuna and also the special library, not only very appealing visually but delicious as well. Both under $15 a bit on the pricy side but at least you don't have to go into the city for great sushi. Came with, comp orange slices. Service is prompt and friendly There is also a izakaya version of their restaurant next door. If you like bacon wrap tomatoes, bacon asparagus and beef tongue that's the joint to try This is also a popular place for blind dates apparently, as you can tell by the couple next to us. LOL Plenty of free parking in the back

  • Geri S.

Really enjoy coming here. You have have have to come early, otherwise you'll be waiting a long time. But I'll tell you, it's certainly worth the wait. This sushi restaurant by far surpasses all the sushi spots in this area and we've been to a few of them. The prices are not over the top. The dynamite roll is delish and they have so far the tastiest hot sake. The service is great. Wish the place was bigger so to fit more guests and not have to wait so long. Great crowd. Great vibe.

Great hot spot in Montrose!!! They have expanded the restaurant, the rolls are delicious creative and spot on! The fish is always fresh and the scene is just so up beat. Candy cane roll is a must try, so is the Marilyn Monroe l. Defiantly a go to spot

  • Linet O.

I kept hearing great things about this place and finally got to try it out this last weekend. We went on a Saturday and the restaurant was fairly empty. We asked to be seated outside. The restaurant is located on a really cute street on Montrose. We ordered different rolls and they all tasted great. I loved their roll with spicy tuna on the inside and crab on the outside (forgot the name). Beyond that, that wait staff were very nice and took good care of us. Definitely a great place to stop off for a quick lunch.

    (4)
  • Ara G.

Blue Fish is my favorite sushi restaurant in the area. Though they used to be small and wait times were very long, they have since expanded. However, because of their popularity, wait times can still be long. However, the Honolulu Ave. location is great for a relaxed atmosphere. Their rolls are creative and taste great. This place consistently seems to outshine any other sushi restaurant I go to.

    (5)
  • Chantel F.

This place was not good! I ordered the sashimi bowl and it was the chunkiest pieces of sushi (the size of a chicken nugget but thicker). I couldn't eat it. When I told the waiter that I didn't like it he asked if I wanted the check. Rude! $15 for a lunch and I only ate the soup and salad (which wasn't that great either). I won't be coming back and wouldn't recommend.

    (1)

Well, the 'B' rating on the outside should have been my first clue. Didn't taste fresh, slow service and small portions.

  • Arsineh S.

DISCLAIMER: the only reason I gave three stars is because some days I LOVE it here and other days I wish I had not had sushi, so it is a bit of a hit and miss. The food is prepared deliciously, but if you get too many of the same tasting rolls it gets a bit too much. (popcorn lobster roll is delicious) Its a very beautiful restaurant & I would suggest going on an empty stomach because their rolls are generous.

    (3)
  • Topanga S.

3.5 stars Sushi were all so good and fresh. Yellow tails were the best. Freshwater eel was one of the best of all I've ever had in LA. However, rolls..no. We had 2 rolls I think. One was from fresh and other one was from tempra section. I really didn't care either of them. Rice in rolls were so overly sticky that they were like glue. Sushi quality is probably the best in the area but for rolls I think I like Sakana. I'm definitely coming back for sushi.

    (3)
  • Loree K.

The sushi here never ever disappoints. Dine-in or take out they are always on top of it. Definitely best sushi in the area. Everything is good especially the roll with Popcorn Lobster, or just spicy tuna is even good! I pour their spicy mayo on everything. The only roll I don't recommend is the Marilyn Monroe roll. Lots of parking in the back. Pick-up orders are very convenient as you can park in the back in their special pick up spot and pay at the back at their pick up counter.

My family and I have been coming here since I was in 7th grade so we are loyal customers when it comes to this Japanese restaurant (: LET ME TELL YOU, the calamari here is the best calamari I've ever had, mainly I think its due to this mayo based "secret sauce" that the waiter wouldnt tell me about ! Seriously kept asking what it was because I wanted to buy some but he would just say its a secret lol... but seriously best sauce ever, it was like a creamy sweet mayo sauce, okay.. doesn't sound that appetizing as im explaining it, but regardless you guys just need to try it. Either way, the calamari here is good with or without the "secret sauce". Second best thing here is the Unagi Don, which is a rice dish with eel... its abit pricey but seriously, its worth it... its so good. The presentation of the dish is really cool too because not only does it look good, but they add this fish flake on top of the eel which looks like there's live flakes on top, but the flakes are just reacting to the heat which makes it look like their moving or something, I mean I thought that was amusing but I guess you guys also need to see for yourselves haha The people here are so friendly and nice, honestly... I dont know what my waiters name is but he was just so funny and just kept making jokes with my family ! and theyre really acknowledging when it comes to their customers... unlike other restaurants where sometimes they forget you're even their when it gets busy. What kinda makes me sad is how the tempura ice cream got small... it used to be big and now... only one order is basically good for only 2 people, I mean it still taste great but the portion size got smaller ): ALSO the kids meal ! it used to come in this cute bear container and they also had bigger portions, but also got smaller and now they barely give chicken when you order the kids chicken teriyaki... but I mean other than that, I still do love coming here cause the food is amazing & the employees here are really welcoming and funny. KEEP IT UP BLUE FISH ! (:

love this place! tis a shame i hadn't checked it out before when i used to live in la crescenta. they've got bomb sushi - with top notch quality. it was comparable to sushi from sushi gen and noshi sushi in los angeles. my boyfriend and i ordered lots of sushi so we even got green tea ice cream on the house. the place was poppin' on a saturday night. also appreciated the decor. next time definitely want to try some of their rolls - they looked delicious too (like red mountain).

Two stars on Yelp stands for "Meh. I've experienced better" and that's exactly how I feel about this place. My boyfriend and my boyfriends family went in on Sunday night tight to try this place out. We were seating with my two year old niece and then asked to get up and move because we might be blocking a section. This was not professional at all because we have a child with us and they should've known whether we were going to block the way or not. The service - the service was mediocre nothing special and not horrible. The food - We got the albacore sashimi with crispy onions, the golden philadelphia roll, and the dynamite roll. None of them were something I'd return for. I know the different between a good piece of salmon and a farm raised shitty quality one and that's exactly what they used, the shitty quality one. I wouldn't go back to this place unless it was the only restaurant open in town.

  • San G.

This place is for the non-sushi lovers. If you like it drenched in sauce, mayo and fried, you found the place. Its definitely not a place for healthy and light dishes. Sushi grade is not the best in my opinion. The waiters are not too attentive. Service is not the best. When they get crowded they have a hard time getting to you.

    (2)
  • Glenn M.

By far, my favorite Sushi restaurant. The price is on the high side- but... the portions are also generous. The most important thing - quality and taste. Superman Burrito is a must. And if you like Albacore they have something called 2261 Roll - my favorite! It's Albacore on top of ca roll with red onions. Wow. Other Favorites: Hot Zone Red and Sweet Rattlesnake Pop Corn Lobster and Las Vegas Roll

If i could rate this restaurant 100 stars i would!!... MY all time favorite sushi spot in LA.. Hands down they have the best customer service, the freshest fish, I mean the sashimi literally melts In your mouth, did I mention the BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE?... Danny the owner is amazing, he's one of the main reasons why I get so excited to go to bluefish. Make sure you order albacore sashimi with Crispy onions, yellowtail carpaccio, Anoush roll, 2291, uni sushi, Spanish mackerel sushi, I've practically have tried almost everything on the menu and I'm telling you everything is amazing..MUST GO! Love you Danny!!!

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sushi at Blue Fish! While going to so many sushi restaurants in Little Tokyo, the West side & downtown, I was definitely pleased with the experience. The nigiri was good and the service was decent! Nothing to complain about for sure! We'll be back again!!

    (4)
  • Sandy A.

The service was poor, they were out of halibut, rolls were bland, some of the fish was very fishy. The edamame we had to ask for twice was undersalted and I had to ask for refills on hot tea. Also, they yell WAY too loud in your ear when you're sitting at the bar... Also I've been sitting here long enough to write this review while waiting for my check. First and last time here.

  • Denise C.

I don't personally like sushi but my friends and family do, so we come here often. BUT their teriyaki chicken is delicious! I love it! The environment is very welcoming, but also chill and relaxing, a great place to go to after work. The staff is very kind every time I've gone. Their green tea ice cream is the best I've tasted in Southern California

    (4)
  • Michelle S.

Yuck! one of the most overrated sushi place in the area. Me and my friend went there at the night time. It was pretty crowed. We were sitting at the bar the sushi man who served to us got flu!!! Seriously? Are you guys out of your mind? He kept sneezing and his face turned red. We got so angry because obviously he gets sick every costumers! He frequently blew his nose and made sushi with that hands!!! A couple sitting next to us got mad and left after they realized how badly sick he is. The owner must have sent him home. If you guys care about customer , it would not have happened. Their rolls are really expensive compared to other sushi places. I tried one roll which had fishy smell so badly. The quality of sushi is just okay. But that price is not worth. Definitely, we never come back .

    (1)
  • Ali K.

Their customer service is absolutely horrible. They don't stick to their hours and always deny people who walk in to eat claiming that they are closed.

    (1)
  • Caroline H.

Probably more like 2.5 stars. The service was friendly, if not particularly fast. We came on a Sunday night and had about a 25 minute wait for a table. We ordered several rolls including the Marilyn Mon-roll, the popcorn lobster roll, and the candy cane roll. None of the rolls were all that great. They use langostino, not lobster. And imitation crab, not crab. The special white sauce was sweet and didn't add anything to any of this dishes they put it on. We also ordered the "lobster" dynamite appetizer which was bland. We wanted to like this place but couldn't.

    (3)
  • Adrienne B.

Only been here once with a girlfriend of mine and it was a really good place! The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The sushi portions are nice and big, and deliciously made. I ordered the popcorn lobster and it was so good, I wished that I hadn't ate prior to ordering this, so I could finish all of it. The spicy mayo sauce on top made it really tasty. The place is very casual, ambiance is chill, not too busy during the day.

I consider myself pretty heavy connoisseur of sushi and BLUE FISH has, so far, the single greatest role I found in LA. It's called the red and sweet roll and it's an absolute, bottom-of-the-ninth game changer. Look no further, the people are great, the staff is wonderful, the TVs are blasting on fantastic games and the sushi is absolutely dynamite.

    (5)
  • Tani P.

I've been here a few times now and while the sushi is great, fresh, creative menu and quick - sometimes the service has been lackluster. I came in on a Monday for lunch with my mom. She ordered a sushi burrito which arrived a good 10 minutes before my meal. I also ordered a miso soup which was forgotten about. The sushi is great so I keep coming back but I wish the servers were more attentive and aware of what we're ordering and when they are bringing our meals out.

  • Alique B.

I would have rated Blue Fish 5 stars about 5 years ago. It seems like the quality of the sushi has declined. The service is still fine. The waitresses are always checking up on you, although there is a language barrier, they are very attentive and nice. The food however, was not comparable to the old blue fish. I felt sick the entire day after I ate here. All I had was the albacore sashimi and that itself was enough to ruin my digestive system the next day. You shouc stay away if you're eating raw fish here. Luckily, they do have an izakaya menu so you're better off eating the cooked dishes. The parking is very convenient, and the restaurant itself is intimate and up to date.

This is currently my favorite sushi place to eat! It's not the best but it is definitely good. There is days where the quality of sushi isn't that great but then other days where it just tastes amazing (that's why I'm giving this place a 4 star). Prices are kinda high in my opinion but it's worth it, or at least I feel like my last visit justifies my reasoning lol. Customer service is always great as well. Never had a horrible dine in experience, has always been great :)

Very good food and service. The sushi is very fresh and prepared beautifully. The seating is a little cramped especially when it gets busy on the weekends. The atmosphere is lively. When it's busy be prepared to wait a bit for your food. Overall a great local sushi restaurant.

Bottom line (at the top): Blue Fish used to be so good.. So sad to discover that isn't the case anymore. -- Blue fish uses a lot of rice and sauce, even more than they used to. Today we had miso soup, edamame, small green salad, candy cane roll, crispy rice, Marilyn mon-roll, ladybug, and the tempura shrimp with peanut butter (forgot the name). The good: candy cane, small green salad, edamame tempura shrimp with peanut butter The candy cane roll is probably the best roll here, but ask them to put that sauce on the side. It's a little sweet? The ladybug was REALLY bad. Don't order. Also the crispy rice had really bad spicy tuna or something on top, don't get that either. It's nice that they put sliced lemon in your water and give you cut up orange, though! Be warned that the orange is really bitter though :P

I really don't recommend this place. The place is fancy but that's it. Price is not reasonable, food was awful. Service? I DO NOT even wanna talk about it. I really disappointed this place. The food quality depends on your taste. I don't know imma too sensitive or some sh**. Consequently, +Do not give them a little tips, they will talk about you and your tiny tips:)) +Fried stuff, which is called tempura, was EW +Only Udon was tasty.

As soon as I walked in there was a funkie smell which killed my appetite. The sushi was okay. Nothing amazing.. But it wasn't bad. They're kinda overpriced. Doubt I'll be back.

Love blue fish and I'm not even a fan of sushi. This is the only place I'll eat sushi.

Love! I could eat the popcorn lobster daily! My favorite is the Ladybug Roll. Another fave is the Udon Noodle soup.

Expensive but Yummy So it's worth the cost. The walk around the neighborhood is nice for a date night. It's my wife's favorite place for sushi night so far. There is a little bit of a wait time but not to bad.

It was good but it was a littttttttttle too "authentic" for my white girl sushi tastes. My only complaint is that they add some more "white girl sushi" as I call it :P The miso soup was AMAZING and so was the roasted green peppers (can't remember the name). I'm sure if you're an authentic sushi lover you will love it.

I have eaten at Bluefish a number of times over the past several years. I have to say that out of the many sushi restaurants in Montrose, Bluefish consistently has the best tasting dishes in town. However, you will pay more for these fresh and good tasting dishes. The service is fast and the staff is friendly and if you sit at the sushi counter you will get schooled on whichever dish the sushi chef creates for you. But, I have to admit, some of the best Sushi and Japanese restaurants have been found in Japanese town near downtown LA.

This place is my favorite Japanese restaurant! I've been coming here for years now and the staff has always been super friendly and pretty fast; they even greet you in Japanese, as you walk in! Their food is a little pricey but it's worth it, especially since their sushi is presented well and tastes fresh! You absolutely need to try their special library roll and tempera ice cream :) Their friendly staff and fresh sushi is what keeps me coming back!

I really love this sushi restaurant. everything they have is so fresh and plenty. Their rolls all have an abundant amount of filling and delicious toppings. Their uni was amazing. That's how you can tell that a place is good. Also they have the food out so fast. The waiters are extremely nice. Also the design of the place is super chic. Our waiter Hermann is the best

One of my favorite sushi places to go to. My family and I are obsessed with this place and love the quality of the fish! The garlic edamame and popcorn lobster is one of the best choices on their menu. Love the food and the service.

I have been here at least 20 times now. I often call in an order and pick it up on the way home. The best thing on the menu is the super man burrito an you dip it in the spicy mayo. If I could eat it every dinner I would. It's by far the best and most unique sushi I have ever had.

I have nothing negative to say about this! Been eating sushi for 17 years and nothing compares to this place. Sure you can go pay a lot of money to eat at a fine sushi joint but if you want normal people surrounding you with good food and service, Blue Fish baby! Recommend the "Shat Love" to all! One of my favs along with heart attack. Everything is great! Friday night more young crowd and owner taking sake shots with you :) You won't regret it!

The special sushi rolls are not bad but is there such a thing as "too much service"? We had 4 different waiters try to take our order. They seem to have an abundance of wait staff, which normally would be a good thing. However, it was kind of hard to relax with so many employees staring at us as they walk by constantly. I get it, it's a service thing and they are certainly quick to swoop down and pick up the empty plates (sometimes before you are even finished, really). I kind of like the traditional Japanese greeting by the staff when you walk into a restaurant but for some reason tonight it all seemed like just too much hubbub to really enjoy the meal. Don't get me wrong, the staff is very friendly and the food was good. For my money, and for a calmer atmosphere, I prefer Sake across the street.

We didn't have the best experience here. The sushi wasn't really that fresh and it was definitely over priced. It visited on a Sunday afternoon and we didn't have to wait to be seated. I've seen the line get pretty long there...i can't imagine waiting to eat at this place.

I am a regular here because the sashimi is luscious, the value is outstanding and the service is phenomenal. There isn't another sushi place I've been to in Los Angeles that has giant pieces of fresh sashimi for reasonable prices. I'm used to small pieces of fish that cost $20 for a sashimi order. The rolls are creative and delicious, but it's hard to justify ordering a lot of rolls considering how good the fish is. I will give a special shout out to the anoush roll, crispy rice, shrimp chip, and the shat love roll. Best salmon sashimi I have ever had, hands down. Justin is a special sushi chef as well, but I haven't had any complaints about any of the other guys. Go here though. Even if it's far, it's definitely worth it.

My friend and I had a short tradition of eating here after we hike nearby. We always get the chirashi bowl. This time, the tuna was inedible, full of unchewable sinew and the albacore was totally freezer burned. I explained my dissatisfaction to the waitress and she told her manager. They apologized. Then we got the check and we were charged full price for this horrible meal. This is unacceptable and we will never eat here again.

I come here all the time. I just got yelp, and that's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars any sooner. I am a big critic when it comes to sushi, and this place is the best. I am friends with the staff and they all know me already. If you want the freshest and best combinations of flavor, this is the place. I have tried every other sushi restaurant within a 25 mile radius of this place, and this place is the best. It's a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Honestly don't know what the rave about this place is. La Crescenta isn't a very well known city so I guess it's hyped because one person really liked it and word traveled fast lol. Decided to give it a try and it was not what I expected. The "omg lobster roll is amazing" was good. Not the best lobster roll I've had..but good. Also got the Anoush roll because I was curious...do not get! It's literally covered in layers of tempura stuff and when you try to get the roll underneath it just falls apart and it's messy. I guess for the area it's a good place but definitely not a one of a kind dining experience.

Found this place with the help of Yelp and was very happy we did! We had the sashimi plate which had 4 pieces each of five different kinds of melt in your mouth fish. We also had the spicy tuna on crispy rice, which I am always a sucker for. It came with 6 pieces which was a nice surprise. The uni sushi was fresh and delicious. They also have good selection of Japanese beers Asahi, Asahi Black, Kirin, Sapporo, Sapporo Reserve, Echigo and Kirin Lite in the large bottles! We sat at the sushi bar and the service was very attentive. we were there on a weekend night and it was VERY busy, which is a good sign for a sushi joint.

This is a great place to get my close-to-home sushi fix. A little bummed that it's $6.25 for 2pc of salmon sushi but the fish is really fresh! Oh and the caterpillar roll is the bomb presentation and taste! Parking tip! If you can't find parking on Honolulu, there's a large outdoor lot behind the restaurant, free! And there's a backdoor entrance from there :)

Sushi was so yummy! Everyone commented on how they loved the salmon Our party ordered sake and beer and the service was very quick. Plus, this place is located in a nice area with plenty of restaurants, bars and coffee shops!

Maybe we got the wrong food or came on the wrong day, but we were there on Sunday afternoon and were not happy at all. This is an interesting layout with two almost identical spaces next to each other. I guess they open both when busy. Only one open when we were there. First, the welcome/ service left a lot to be desired. Not much personality or welcome at all. Then they charge $2.50 for a CAN of very flat soda? Ok, not feeling the love, but we decided to try the California rolls and teriyaki chicken which came with the soup and salad. Chicken had no flavor and only the slathered teriyaki sauce added anything. The rice on both the chicken platter and California rolls was very overdone. This also meant the rolls fell apart and were mushy. Miso soup - which I love usually - had a strange flavor and the salad - although with spinach was a nice touch - did not have a pleasing flavor either - usually I crave the regular ginger dressing all these kinds of restaurants have. Bottom line, I don't understand the high reviews because I will never go back. Not sure what we missed, but we will never know!
