First time visitor to this place...correction, last visitor to this place. Didn't leave a glowing first impression. 1) Okay, the menu has variety. But, I must have picked the one item that isn't a signature dish. 2) I totally support the local businesses, I hope this place is here forever, but you gotta treat every customer with the same respect and excellent service. If you learn you made an error, and offer the client another item after you charge them, just eat the difference...it was just odd to be asked to pay 75 cents for your mistake. 3) The music was the highpoint/free WiFi.

I have two words for this place: The best bread in the world. On to the review! So I came here as a lunch stop with a few buds before heading into lovely the Monterey Bay Aquarium. When we drove by the address the first time, we completely missed it! We had to make a U-turn and slowly scan the area for the restaurant. In its defense, the place was getting their sign redone. So be on the lookout for this lovely place. The inside of the place is pretty small, an ordering area and a few tables on the side, but there is extra seating outside. I ordered a bacon ranch chicken sandwich and it took forever to get to me. Upon speaking with the cashier it turns out that there was some other guy named David that took my order. I wanted to try some horchata but they were fresh out. I also ordered some water but never got any. Now at this point you might be thinking, boy this place sucks! Why would you give it 4 stars?!? Seven words: The bread. The bread was AMAZING! The best bread I've ever had. It was the perfect amount of crunch and a delectable soft texture inside. Boy oh boy, I still have dreams about the bread. The fillings were also pretty well made. If you're ever near Monterey you must give this place a shot.

I definitely recommend the Mundos Tri Tip. It was flavorful, warm, crispy but not tough, I also recommend the horchata. However, I didn't find the Argentinean Tri Tip as good. It was different and the flavor were more subtle, but unlike the Mundos Tri Tip, the beef itself was not flavored. The server was very friendly, and I'd revisit the place. Note that it is small, so seating is limited. I wish the sandwich came with a side however. Perhaps I am still accustomed to some of those East Bay prices, because I know there are some places where for $9 (the price of the tri tips) I could get a little more. However, great lunch spot I would recommend for the area.

Def as good as it gets. BBQ Tri Tip is off the hook. Parking sucks and is hard to find but it's my NEW favorite sandwich joint. A MUST TRY!!!

A hidden gem! This place is great!! Great menu with lots of options! Haven't had one thing that I didn't like! Service is always friendly and very personable. One of my favorites in the area!! The cost is totally cheap considering the high quality of the menu!!

This place is awesome! The Argentinian tri tip sandwich and the Argentinian brisket sandwich were amazing.

  • Lisa A.

This place use to be good, until the changed the meat on their best food. They use to serve tri-tip and it is stll called tri tip on their menu but instead you get brisket. Everything else is good from the chicken milanese to the squealing pig. My only gripe is that they got rid of the tri tip.

I was a little hesitant to try out this sandwich shop. 1) i'm not a huge sandwich fan, 2) it is a teeny small place that I have seen for years but never thought it was actually a restaurant. After going in and giving it a try I totally get they hype behind this place and it deserves all of its great reviews! I ordered the tuscany which is nice thick slices of grilled chicken, fresh mozarella, tomatoes, and chimichurri sauce. The best part is the bread it comes on. Huge grilled pieces of fresh bread with baked cheese on top. YUM! My boyfriend ordered the unique matador which is a chorizo burger with lots of yummy cheese and sauce. Very good and such a different flavor. We were a little suprised that the sandwiches didn't come with any side dishes but after we got through about a 4th of our sandwich we realized that even if it came with a side we wouldnt be able to eat it. The sandwiches are huge and fill you up! I cant wait to go back and try something new.

hands down - best sandwiches in monterey!

  • Marge G.

Really good Eggplant sandwich. I ask for roasted red peppers and chimichurri sauce added on. The sandwiches are very good, yet on the expensive side. The service is friendly and efficient, the small dining area clean and bright.

Ate here on our way through Monterey to visit the aquarium and had the mundo's tri tip sandwich. SO DELICIOUS. definitely stop and try it!

Really, really good sandwich, Argentinean tri-tip. Our first time there and on the advice of FY's we ordered this sandwich, was not disappointed. My husband and I split the sandwich and it was plenty. Can't wait to try something else on the menu although hubby said he would probably have to order the same thing again. It's a small place but we didn't have a problem getting a table inside. So if you want to get away from the same old burgers and sandwiches, give your taste buds a treat and try Mundo's, you'll be glad you did.

  • Angela P.

Back again to Mundo's for our fix-one of their Cubana sandwiches-just the best quality beef and condiments. It is a little pricy at $9, but it was worth every penny. Love the good attitudes and friendly service.

Best sandwich shop I've eaten at in Monterey. The daily specials are always a good value and taste amazing. Don't come late or they'll most likely run out of tri-tip.

  • Lynette T.

    Do not go here to eat!!!!!! These sandwiches are the best thing EVER and if you're there ordering food it will hinder how long it takes them to make MY food...lol...no but seriously, I just discovered this place and they do it right. Its a bit small, but the food is so good it doesn't matter if they sold it out of a little bus, and didn't have seating at all - I'd still be all over it. So far I've had the Bacon Chicken Ranch, the Argentinian Brisket, a Bacon Cheeseburger and the BBQ Pulled Pork.....mmmmmmm....just talking about it makes me wanna.....order......a........{{where did she go?}}

Super cozy little cafe on Fremont. When you walk in, there is a delightful retro theme, it is super clean, warm and welcoming. Most importantly you are greeted by the owner who seems so happy to see you. We ordered the burger with chorizo and the Mundo's tri-tip. I can't eat burgers for the self-loathing that follows all day long after that. This burger I would eat and would not care. It was that good. Me and my friend left so satisfied. We both agreed that it was the BEST burger AND potato salad we'd ever had. Oh! lest I forget the tri-tip was also friggin delish! There are three different options for the tri-tip sandwiches. There is an Argentian, a BBQ and the Mundo's tri tip. The sandwich was so big, I could only eat half. I tried to eat the tri-tip from the other half as I hate waste but could not finish it. I wish I had left room to try something sweet. Perhaps next time.

Find them between the America's Best Value Inn & Suites and Big 5 on Fremont in Seaside. Small place - a few tables inside, and I think three outside. Saw Mundo's Cafe on a review via Monterey Weekly. Gourmet sandwiches? A bacon-infused burger called the squealing pig?!? Well of course I'm going to try it out! While waiting for a Argentinian tri-tip sandwich (suggested by one of the brother-owners), I glanced around. They seem to have taken over an old drive-through cafe and simply put up a haphazardly printed menu and banner, and put a new sign outside to cover the old one. And then focused on what really matters - making damn good sandwiches (though Eli told me they've been at this for a while - this is just their first deli/cafe). The promised chimichurri sauce sold me the sandwich (though I wish they were a bit heavier on it) and the meat was tender; the bread was fresh. And really, really good. On this makeshift menu hanging over the counter - blissful promises of deliciousness such as strawberry cheesecake crepes, breakfast burritos with chorizo, unique sandwiches and burgers - are listed with non-peninsula prices. Four fifty for a burrito, bit over six for my sandwich w/ chips. I will be back. I will hope for more exotic variations to their sandwiches and burgers, because it won't take me long to go through their menu. They also have espresso drinks, if you're the earlybird. They appear to have cafe cubano, if my memory serves me right.

The best tri-tip sandwich I have ever had. Love the way they are made with special sauce and bread. Keep up the great work.

This place made me feel like I was visiting someone's home. It was like sitting in a cozy kitchen well the fun family cooked it up in the kitchen. In addition to an awesome vibe/atmosphere, the food was booooombbbbb! I'll be back for sure. There were so many items and I can't wait to try them all because they all sound so goood:) OH, and there is a DRIVE THROUGH! Way cool!

I'm a fan!!!! It was a very tasty surprise. In my opinion this place is in the top 3 sandwich places in Monterey area. I would recommend the Cubano.

My husband kept wanting to come, since his co-workers raved about the Argentinian Tri-Tip. We finally went about 5pm on a Thursday night. The place looks clean, the proprietors were friendly. Five stars. The sandwich looked delicious, (thought it was a Dutch Crunch, but I was wrong-- it's a Ciabatta) served panini style, with tri-tip, cheese and a chimichurri sauce (see photo). We split the sandwich, and it is a generous portion (about $7). Unfortunately, I didn't care for the sandwich that much. At home, we have perfected the art of grilling tri-tip (Santa Maria Style, on my food blog) and I don't like my tri-tip-- or any kind of beef-- to be well done. This meat was definitely well-done, but when you cook it in a panini press, it can't be avoided. The chimichurri sauce didn't work for me, in this sandwich. It tasted "grassy" and had an off-putting flavor. I wish I had ordered the California Tri-tip, that was listed as being served with an aioli sauce. However, I have a feeling that the meat would have been well-done. I'm spoiled, when it comes to tri-tip. Cook it over oak, please, seasoned only with salt, pepper and garlic. I want it pink in the middle. But if you don't mind well-done beef, then you'll be happy with this sandwich. Would we come back? Perhaps, but I'm not dreaming about the meal. If you were close by, and want a sandwich for lunch, I'm sure this place is fine. Personally, hubs and I decided that we tried it and didn't buy into the big hoopla. Sorry.

  • Susie H.

Tried a couple of sandwiches and was very pleased with flavor and quality of the ingredients. Last time, I tried a burger...not great. Looked good but the patty was dense, over-cooked and so salty that I couldn't finish it. Spent the rest of the day in search of H2O!

    (3)
  • Michelle S.

Went back - as I knew we would..... it couldn't be helped - it was going to happen. Since we had already listened to all the suggestions and raves about the tri-tip and thoroughly enjoyed it - This time we decided to share the Cuban with crispy chicken (you can get it with tri-tip but we wanted to try something different). Oh my god! I have added this to my list of "things I didn't know to know existed". It's THAT good. This is going to be one of those cravings that sneaks up on me when I'm on the east coast and have no possible way of making it go away or get it out of my head! The sandwich is amazing and has unbelievable flavor - I may sound like a TV commercial but it literally bursts with flavor at every bite! It's HUGE so splitting it is definitely an option.

On our day trip to Monterey I decided to use yelp to find me a bomb sandwich shop where the locals eat. We came at noon on Saturday & the place was crackin'. It's a small shop with only 4 small tables inside & a few outside. We ordered a Monterey Turkey Sandwich ($6.99) & a Tri-Tip sandwich. They were large sandwiches! They also have a drive thru which was interesting for a sandwich place. Overall good sandwiches & I would come back here!

Tri tip sandwich was really delicious. Wanted to try some of the desserts but I was too full!

    (5)
  • Chris E.

Mundo's tri-tip sandwich is absolutely mindblowing! They have some of the best bread, as do many Monterey area restaurants, which is what makes this panini-style sandwich. They also have a great falafel sandwich as well! Check these guys out!

    (5)
  • Diane R.

Grilled eggplant sandwich was super! it was huge though, and I couldn't finish more than a half. Great find. EDIT TO ADD: We returned the next day for another lunch, this time we had THE best BLT sandwiches we've ever had! Neither of us like ciabatta, so we had them on toasted wheat, and they were completely stellar. HIGHLY recommended!

    (4)
  • Chuck M.

The Argentina tri-tip at this place is the best sandwich I have in along time. The meat was very flavorful, with cheese, tomatoes, chimichurri sauce, on the best fresh Argentinian bread around. I was served by the owner who was very nice and helpful. Anyone that lives in or plans on visiting Monterey needs to stop by and check this place out.

I will definetly be going back to Mundo's! I popped in and ordered my sandwhich to go and got it right away. I got the vegetarian bell pepper sandwhich (added a picture), it was delicious! The aioli dressing is sweet and tangy and doesn't overwhelm the sandwhich. The bell peppers are roasted to perfection and very tasty. Very happy to have found a healthy, fresh, sandwich shop. Can't wait to try the other items on the menu! We might have to go there this weekend to try out the burgers!

Can'y stop going back. They do everything so well here. The sandwiches, the mexican quesadillas, etc. Everything is top quality and fresh and every time the staff have been incredibly friendly even when they are really busy. The tri-tip sandwich is absolutely stellar. Everything is flavored perfectly. They make their own horchata (rice drink). The dishes are honestly big enough to share. Tip on finding the place: The sign is very small so you might miss it the first time but look for a pink sign next to a hotel. It is small but worth every cent.

Everything here is amazingly delicious!!! Eli and his crew are so great! The mundos aioli is so yummy. I work down the street and I eat it at least once a week. My co-workers and I are always ordering food from here. My favorite sandwich is the mundos tri tip. The tri tip is so juicy. But everything I have had has been delicious! Highly recommend this place!!!

My first visit to Mundo's. I had read the reviews and it was as advertised. I had the Mundo's tri tip, a bag of chips and a soda; all for under $12.00. Not a bad price for a good sandwich. Lot's of tri tip on pressed ciabatta bread. More than enough to eat. The kitchen seemed slow but when I think about it and every sandwich is hand made and cooked, it actually was ok. The place was clean; I ate in. Worthy of another trip to try something else on the menu.

Finally stopped by Mundo's the other day to try their burgers (after reading all the positive reviews on Yelp of course!). They had quite a nice menu, with a lot of interesting sounding items (definitely enough food on the menu to warrant a return trip). I ordered a classic cheese burger and found it to be very good overall. The atmosphere was low key and easy going; service was nice. It was almost like you were having lunch at a friend's house or something. We'll definitely be back to try some of the other items on the menu.

Review based on getting a sandwich at a supposed sandwich shop. I just wanted one of the regular sandwiches, not one of the dozen different specials they now have, not to mention burgers and burritos. My sourdough sandwich was boring, dry, and served with square ham and cheap cheese. It was ok for a sandwich, but there are three nearby shops that offer better fair for your money(Randy's, La Sala's and the freaking Safeway). Maybe their hot sandwiches are better, if I stop by again for some reason and try one I will update my review.

The absolutely best sandwiches I have ever had. The Mundos Tri-Tip is as good as it gets.

We visited this small sandwich shop on a Saturday about 30 minutes prior to closing. There were no other customers, but the staff was friendly and helpful in choosing our food. I ordered the Argentinian tri-tip, which is a fantastic sandwich. Tender meat, on excellent bread with pesto and cheese, grilled panini-style. It was huge, but I ate it all, as we had no way to keep it for later. My wife had the Squealing Pig Burger -- a large beef patty with bacon mixed into it. It also came with cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and onion on a nice roll. Way too big to finish, as well, but she tried. Kids had a basic cheese burger and BLT, which they both enjoyed. We would come back to this place any time we visit the area. I'm not sure how they handle a big crowd, as the place is pretty small, but I'm sure the orders stack up during a lunch rush. The food here is really good.

The husband and I just stopped in here after some errands in Seaside, I've been wanting to try for some time due to all of the good reviews- & I'm so glad I finally did! I got the pesto chx sammy and he got the she with chimichurri(& I, of course, have food envy). Both were great, but his was phenomenal- tons of chimi-gold and fresh mozzarella. Mmmm. Wil definitely be back!

Great food! I had the Mundo's Tri-Tip sandwich. It was fresh, and served fast. I would definitely eat here again.

Can't go wrong. This place has only been open for a short time and it's a converted little bakery/ coffee shop that is in the parking lot of a motel. BUT, do not pass these guys by. This place has some of the freshest most delicious food of it's kind around. The Brisket special sandwich is ridiculous, and and of the burgers are really great! My friend always says "I just wish they had fries", but for me I really love their potato salad which is made fresh all day in batches. My favorite thing there is the Falafel though with, believe it or not, fresh baked pita bread, better here than the Middle Eastern/ Greek places around that are making Falafel. Also the Portabello Quesadilla. These guys can really cook, it really doesn't matter what you get, it's good. period. Atmosphere is not anything to write home about but sitting out front isn't half bad even with the traffic of Fremont street whizzing by. But I mostly get it to go. The owners are nice as they can be, and very appreciative of your business. ..... BTW Upon reading another reviewer, who didn't like the cold sandwich, I cannot attest to that, being that I always get a hot meal there. But, you should really give it another shot and try something else. Go to La Sala's/ Bi-Rite if you want a cold lunch-meat sandwich. Skip Safeway though BOOOOOO to that noise. If you're in the mood, try the cookies too :)

Wow, this was one of the best lunch spots I have found on the Monterey Penninsula. The Tri-tip sandwich was out of this world. This place is a hidden gem, I highly recommend it!

  • annie h.

Passed by this place for awhile and have had their sandwiches from local coffee shops, they were okay. Wished I'd stop by the main shop sooner. Tried three sandwiches Argentinean tri tip, pastrami and falafel. Pastrami was decent not amazing, tri tip was good, medium and flavorful. The falafel was the highlight, fluffy flatbread (so much better than pita) fresh veggies and spreads, falafels were not crispy (maybe due to travel) but very flavorful. I went back the following Monday with some co-workers for lunch. The food was still good, I had the Chicken Tuscany and the Mundo's Tri Tip (the Argentinean is better), the bacon on the Tuscany was excellent, thick and not burnt crispy. Unfortunately the service was lacking, but they were very busy and had clear forgotten one of our orders.

Had the Argentinean Tri-Tip sandwich. The best sandwich I ever had. If you live in Monterey and have never been here, you are really missing a good lunch.

If you want to experience true pure unadulterated joy, the kind of joy you haven't felt since Christmas morning when you were 7 years old - come here and eat one of their sandwiches. Meat-faced goodness.

  • Amanda C.

Best sandwiches in town! Between the three of us we tried the Argentinian Tri Tip, Veggie Burger, Tuna Sandwich, and a side of potato salad. Everything was excellent. Heads up, the veggie burger it's not a payty veggie burger like you would expect but delish!

  • Jen L.

SO DELICIOUS! My husband and I look forward to coming here every time we're in the area. Everything is freshly made in the kitchen and the difference is in the taste! Heads up: if you go too early (around 10-11am), some of their items might not be ready.

  • Kathy G.

Back to Mundo's for check to see if it was as good as before. We were not disappointed. They are keeping up the standards. This spot is so far above a typical Mexican place that it really isn't in the same category. Lots of choices either Mexican or elsewhere, all perfectly prepared.

    (4)

The best sandwiches ever (period). It's a simple order at the counter joint and super reasonably priced. These peeps know how to roast meats and the veggie sammies are awesome too.

I love this place best sandwiches in Monterey, fresh baked bread in the morning and fresh turkey not deli turkey. I would definitely recommend it!!!!

  • Neil E.

Good first rate sandwich shop. The proverbial "hole in the wall" that only the locals know about. Had the Monterey turkey sandwich and it tasted good. Simple presentation ... Was expecting thin deli-sliced turkey, but was pleasantly surprised with ample portions of the real thing. Will return again to try their other offerings.

I found this place on Yelp when we needed a good, quick place to eat. 1. I love family run, off the beaten path, hidden gem places. Check, check, check 2. Tried the Squealing Pig Burger - sinfully delicious. I haven't been able to say that about a quick lunch in a long time. 3. I am sad that this place isn't closer to home, but I'll tell you one thing - this place is now on our list of 'Regular Places to Stop' when we are in the area. Thank you for great food & great conversation, can't wait to come back!

Such a cute little cafe! We went in when the owner was behind the counter, and the only one there cooking his little heart out. I ordered the Elvis crepe, which was filled with peanut butter, jelly, and bananas!!!! My husband got a breakfast burrito stuffed with perfectly cooked egg, cheese, chorizo, and Bacon!! It was huge and great value. The owner is a total sweetheart and made me one of the best lattes I have ever had! We will definitely be going back on our next trip to Monterey.

Great sandwiches! This place is my husbands favorite. It's so small it's easy to pass - but the food makes you come back. The falafels are excellent. My daughter had the cheeseburger which looked really really good too.

5 Stars for great sandwiches and burgers, friendly staff and great service at this family-owned and -operated cafe .... Mundo's Cafe can thank their customers that Yelp! If not for all the glowing reviews on Yelp, I would not have known to come here in the first place, nor bothered to try the second time. To explain, we were spending a day in Monterey and decided to swing by for an early dinner on a Monday afternoon. It was about 4-5p ... thinking they closed at 6p (based on a photo someone posted here on Yelp, taken 8/15/11, which is not correct). Anyways, needless to say, we had to eat dinner elsewhere. The next day, as we were heading out of town ... and Mundo's Cafe (reviews) still on my brain, I decided to give it a second try even though they were on the other side of town and they were not on our route. Even around 2p on a weekday, the tiny little cafe had a steady stream of customers. Good sign. Staff was patient and friendly. We ended up ordering a American Classic Burger and a Monterey Turkey sandwich. The inside seating was tight and/or mostly taken, so we sat outside on one of their wrought iron tables/chairs. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and brought out our food when ready. The burger was actually delicious. Patty was THICK and juicy, with melted (cheddar?) cheese, lettuce and tomato on a sesame seed bun. Came with a choice of potato salad or chips. We chose potato salad which was just right, chunky potatoes and not too creamy, and a mild taste to compliment the burger. The turkey sandwich had thick carved slices and came on a toasted wheat sliced bread. We had chosen chips as the side. And, they staff asked if we wanted the bagged chips or the ones from the kitchen, which would be cheaper. (I don't know, but it's always a good sign when someone offers you another option even though it would make them less money.) Chips were thick and rigged. We were stuffed. Minor note: We bought one of their blueberry muffins off the counter for dessert. But, unlike the freshness and quality of their sandwiches and burgers, I don't think these were fresh baked ... more like Costco quality. Maybe in the future, they will consider baking their own, or contracting with a local baker to sell fresher baked items. BTW, according to their website, their hours (as of 12/22/11) are: Mon 6a - 3p, Tue-Fri 6:30-3p, Sat 6a - 2p, and Sunday closed.

Love this place! I had been a few times just for some mexican lattes but I knew I needed to bring the husband back for some lunch. We've had their sandwiches and they are delish! Warm, soft but toasted ciabatta tastes so incredibly fresh and the menu itself is not the usual suspects! I love the chicken tuscan while my husband so far thinks the Cubano is the best! We're going to bring our teenage boys back because they are gonna die when they see this food!!! A fountain machine would be awesome though. Great customer service as well. Thanks guys!

At first, I was skeptical about this place, but once I tried their Yummy Mundo's Tri Tip sandwhich, I was hooked on it. ***The staff is very friendly... BTW Mundo's Café offers a DISCOUNT to Students & Military. :D

This place is great: the food was amazing, service good, and prices reasonable. We had the grilled chicken sandwiches which were delicious, and some of the best horchata I've tasted (which is saying something, since I'm a Southern California native and have tried A LOT of it). The only downside is that there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of room to sit, not to park. We went there on a Sunday and didn't have trouble finding either, but it seems like that could be a problem during busy times.

There's a new sandwhich king on the block. It's true that good things come in small packages, and if you aren't careful you may easily drive by this tiny little hidden treasure. ALL the food here is good, along with friendly owners and great coffee. Try the Argentine Tri-tip or curry chicken sandwhich. I would take tourists, friends or family here for a cheap, delicious lunch.

We went here for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon after a long hike. It was our first time. I had the Chicken Pesto sandwich and I absolutely devoured it. All the ingredients were fresh from the pesto sauce and the bread. The chicken was perfect. Can't wait to go back!

After a year of my fiances son telling us to check it out we finally did. Why did it take us so long? It was delicious, friendly staff and a great value for our money. Had the tri tip sandwich and he got a burger. Both were delicious. We will be back for sure.

I've had the pleasure of trying several items from Mundo's, all of which were excellent: the chicken salad sandwich, the falafel sandwich, and the breakfast burrito with ham. Stop in for a meal to go, or enjoy it on one of the patio tables outside. Always quick, friendly service.

We had a pretty good sized group coming to Mundo's at 4:30pm, an hour before they closed. I called ahead to let them know. Although the owner was the only one there, he took orders and made food as people arrived. Favorites ordered were the falafel and tri tip sandwiches/wraps. They were big, most people just ate half. Great prices for the peninsula. Not the absolute best in town, but really good. Wish they were open until 6pm so I could stop by on the way home to pick up a sandwich or burger for dinner.

Chorizo burger was quite tasty. A small joint that's kinda hard to find, with only a few small tables inside but a few more out front.

Since I had my morning coffee from ACME already, figure it's time to try something new. Even though there was a drive-thru I popped inside instead so I can take my time with the menu. Inside Mundo's Cafe is very causal mom & pop where you order you food at the counter and you can bring it back to one of 4 tables inside. yelp.com/biz_photos/jKjU… I was cheerfully greeted by the owner who took my double shot of cubano espressso order. He came back with 2 cups that were each 1/3 filled. I asked if this was for 2 orders he says it's for 2 shots. He put it in 2 different cups since it was for to-go. After I added my evaporated milk in I was double fisting back to the car for only $2.50!!!! yelp.com/biz_photos/jKjU… And the cubano was smooth & creamy......100% pure high-octane goodness. The other drink that gives me that effect is Vietnamese coffee. Oh, I was in heaven!!

They make a tasty sandwich. Maybe a little expensive but just one half filled me up so I had two meals for the price of one. Definately worth trying when in town. A quaint family vibe with nice guys running the joint too.

If you're not eating here, you need to be. I am always "iffy" on places that serve sandwiches. I don't "do" mayo or mustard and so many places put aioli on everything and try to tell you it isn't mayo. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck. Just own it -- aioli is fancy mayo. I digress... The bread is awesome, the ingredients are fresh, the place is super clean, and they didn't mess up my order by using a dirty knife to cut it (mustard contamination).

I really want to thank my co-worker Mrs. K for introducing me to this wonderful cafe. I was so hungry when I walked in and I could not decide what to order because everything on the menu was so enticing. To start off, I had the All American Classic burger. Let me tell you, it was PHENOMENAL!! Unfortunately for me and my waistline, I will have a hard time staying away from here. I also tried the Cubano espresso and it was delightfully delicious. The staff here are super friendly, efficient and courteous. Congratulations on the opening of Mundos! May it continue to prosper.

I discovered Mundo's and was hooked the first time. I've been back dozens of times and tell everyone they have the best sandwiches. I have tried several things on the menu but my favorite is the Argentinian Tri-Tip, I crave it, it is sooo good! The owners are really nice and make you feel welcome and they have a punch card to earn free sandwiches. Eat at Mundos!

Amazing!! Love the BBQ Brisket that I ordered...and I couldnt stop there...right before my eyes were huge homemade chocolate chip cookis fresh out of the oven, so of course I had to get a bag....then, I feast my eyes on Thai Iced Tea, which I am a sucker for, so, yes got that too...but the sandwich -- OMG - PERFECTO!! TriTip was cooked perfectly and with just the right amount of bbq sauce and cheese, the Ciabatta bread was amazing - and then they lightly press it like a Panini with a little more cheese ....WOW :) I can feel everyone's satisfaction...A New Regular Spot for me!!

This place deserves more attention. For about $10, you can grab coffee and a nice mushroom burger. The coffee is coffee (honestly, after having Philz Coffee, everything else tastes subpar). The burgers here are what really shine. Sesame seed topped buns sandwiching very fresh vegetables and juicy meats. If you like in n out, this burger is several levels above it. They also cut the burger in half for you for easier eats. Also, their potato chips are CRISPY and DELICIOUS. The service here is quite nice. They deliver your food to your table and the gruff man working here is quite a charming and kind fellow. The chefs inside are also pretty nice too. Great place. Come here or miss out..OR DIE.

Tried this spot based on the Yelp reviews. Really one of the best sandwich places we've been to in a long time, with such a diverse international list of dishes we couldn't figure out whether they were Argentinian, Middle Eastern or what. Turns out they're from Mexico, but feel free to pick the best from anywhere. I tried the Argentinan Tri-Tip and it was out of this world good, without the oversalting other places sometimes do. It was sort of a pesto kind of flavor on top which worked well with the tender beef. Now if they could only put this place downtown, rather than out on Fremont-that would be something. But then I suppose they would have to raise the very reasonable prices.

Need a great lunch? This place is a hidden gem. Very small with limited parking but the food is well worth any logistical issues. All of the food is very fresh and the potato salad is very non - traditional (in a good way). This was my first time and i definitely recommend the "Pig Burger". Trust me good stuff.

Just plain AWESOME- Friendly staff, Great food, I just wish the were open later! VERY thought out menu at really good prices - seriously cheap- EXCELLENT FOOD... They need to expand and make a bigger more visible sign maybe?

The sandwiches here are crazy--homemade bread & buns, delicious sauces and HUGE portions. The Israeli veggie sandwich is scrumptious. Great owner with adorable kids. For such a small roadside place, they have a big lunch menu. I'm definitely coming here again.

after reading all the reviews on here i took the plunge. Love the place. A ton to choose from, good specials. I loved the turkey burger i got the second time I was there. They also sell cookies from their other location. The strawberry shortbread are just the way they should be. Buttery and delicious.

The best Falafel sandwich for about $7! Homemade flat bread and the falafel is perfectly seasoned. One of the brothers greeted me with an appreciative smile. Great food, great svc. Ill be back Mundos;-) Gotta support the small businesses!

This place is seriously amazing. The owner is so personable and funny! I had the tri-tip (phenomenal) and my friend had a quesadilla which she said was the best she's ever had. It is a tiny hut you might pass easily on Fremont, but i highly suggest going in and checking it out :) SOOOO GOOD!! cant wait for the next time!

Nice little quaint cafe. Very friendly and helpful service. The people there were seriously super nice and would try to accommodate you in any way. They have so many options to chose from the basic sando to a special sando such as Tuscan chicken... We chose the Monterey turkey sando on whole wheat and Argentine tri-tip panni... It was really good- We definitely were not disappointed. Both sandos were big and tasty... The Monterey Turkey had cheddar cheese with a large roasted red pepper, aioli sauce, lettuce, onions and avocado, Aja loved it and so did I...I went with the Argentine panni, this sando was made with tender cuts of tri-tip with chimichurri sauce that was full of flavor along with some onion and cheddar cheese served on a toasted ciabatta roll.. We also got a oatmeal cookie and peanut butter cookie both of which were very big, moist and had amazing flavor.. We wish we could give Mundo's a 4 1/2 but since there are no halfs we went with a 4. The reason for the 4 star is because it took a little longer than we expected. But for a quality sandwich made to order it wasn't too long of a wait. This place is great and wish we had something similar up north.. This place is somewhere that we will always make sure we go to when we are visiting Monterey

The greatest sandwich shop in Monterey, and one of the best I've been to. The Argentinian Tri-tip is amazing. The Tuscan Chicken is great, the Cubana is really good too. I plan on eating my way through the entire menu. If you are anywhere near Monterey, Ca and you haven't been, shame on you.

It's so refreshing to see a healthy drive through joint that is locally owned and affordable. I have been there twice now and the people have been so friendly and very fast - well as fast as you can expect someone to make a made-to-order sandwich. Perhaps Lora, who reviewed this place and left after 10 minutes forgot to ring the doorbell in the drive through? Also... here's a tip - you can call ahead of time and your order will be ready by the time you show up. How much faster and easier does it get?

Absolutely phenomenal! The hospitality in itself is worth going back for more. The sandwiches are big enough for two, the homemade aioli is extremely tasty & most everything is fresh & delicious.

My goal here is to try every single item on the menu. So far I've had five offerings and they've all been good. I came here for the first time ever last Friday and I have been back five times since then, which should be a clear indication of how good the food is here. The menu is pretty straight forward, they have classic sandwiches like Oven Baked Turkey, Ham, Bella Salami, Albacore Tuna, Chicken Salad, Curry Chicken Salad, Baked Chicken and Bacon, Deli Turkey and a Chicken Bacon Ranch sandwich which all come on your choice of bread or a wrap if you're so inclined. They have a separate sandwich menu which feature more festive creations entitled the "President's Club". The "President's Club" is where you'll find my favorite sandwich in the Monterey area, the Chicken Pesto Mozzarella. Perfectly melted mozzarella cheese, savory pesto sauce, fresh tomatoes and a FAT piece of grilled chicken on lightly toasted bread make for a delectable sandwich. For carnivores like myself, they also have a decent selection of hamburgers which are also among the best in the area. My favorite here is The Squealing Pig. The Squealing Pig is a bacon-infused patty, with more bacon, lettuce, tomato, muenster cheese and Mundo's special sauce (I don't give a damn what's in it, it's awesome). I recently tried the Hawaiiana, which was also pretty good and should be on your regular burger rotation if you're fond of pineapple. The Choriqueso, Pink and Bleu Burger and their Double Patty Burger also look really good. I will say that the Argentinian Tri-Tip was a bit overrated, however, they do have a BBQ version, so I'll have to try that out as well to see how it fares with it's more famous counterpart. Also, if the owner isn't around, the service can get very spotty. I had someone write down my order, leave the counter and then ask me again within a three-minute span. Very annoying, but I won't knock the place because it runs flawlessly when the owner's around. Mundo's certainly has a good thing going here and I hope they become a mainstay in the community.

This place is unassuming and absolutely fantastic! I've driven by this place dozens of times and never thought twice. We stopped in today for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The menu is big and diverse, but not expensive. $5-10 will buy an awesome meal. I got the burger with bacon cooked into the patty. It sounded kitschy, but it was an excellent burger. My associate got a BBQ chicken sandwich, and it looked quite delicious. The owner was very friendly and shook our hands on the way out. I will definitely be back. This is quite a hidden gem, in my opinion.

Credit to the Yelpers on pointing this one out. We were on a road trip to Hearst Castle and decided to stop in Monterey for lunch. Wanted to find something with good reviews, plenty of vegetarian options, and away from the busy waterfront areas. Mundos Cafe hit squarely on criteria. Excellent sandwiches, very friendly staff and a location away from the busy touristy section. Highly recommend this place.

Hello! I visited Mundos cafe today and bought the Argentinean Tri Tip sandwich on a ciabatti roll. Yummy hot meat, melted cheese, tomato and chimichurra sauce on a crunchy, grilled ciabatti roll. There were lots of people eating outdoors on the little patio in front of the cafe and people inside as well. I went drive through. I was waited on quickly and politely. My sandwich came fast and with a big smile from the chef?? My sandwich was $7.99 which I feel is a very good deal for a fresh made, tasty sandwich. My sandwich was large for me. I'm a petite 5 footer, but have been known to finish a Randy's or Troia's sandwich before. My sandwich had a lot of tri tip so I saved half the sandwich for later tonight or maybe for tomorrows lunch. The tri tip was moist and flavorful,(alot!) the cheese was melted, the tomatoes warm and soft and did I mention the bread perfectly crunchy grilled? Next time I order this sandwich will ask for extra chimichurra sauce on the sandwich. For me I would have loved it if was a bit more wet. That would be the only thing I would change and I feel like the staff would hardly mind a bit.

Holy Sandwhich! You have GOT to try this tiny hole-in-the-wall. No lie, best sandwiches in Monterey. Worth the drive off the beaten path. Breakfast and lunch only and they close at 3pm. This is a must do. My favorite is the Agentinean Tri Tip sandwhich. I've never tasted anything like it.

YUM!!!! We stopped here for a late lunch based on the reviews and it was SO worth it! We got the paprika chicken ranch and the tri-tip with chimmichurri - both were big enough to split, but you won't want to share! The chef brought us ice water without our even having to ask, and accommodated every request. The service was fast and friendly, the prices were more than fair, and the food was CHOMPIN'! We topped it off with a slice of the chocolate cake and that was fabulous too. Easy 5 stars. Thanks, yelp!

First time here and out of towner - heard about the cubano. Oh Em Gee The cubano bread was perfectly toasted with chorizo, tri tip, bacon, ham, & cheese. That sandwich was so huge - so big - it could feed maybe 3 people. I thought price was a bit steep, but that sandwich was a phenomenal value.

In all honesty, I'm a bit perplexed by Mundo's. Apparently a purveyor of "gourmet sandwiches," I can't seem to find out much information about them on the internets. You'll find these sandwiches at many of the local coffee shops around the Monterey Peninsula, available prepackaged for a sandwich on-the-go. They apparently have a kitchen over on Fremont, or at least that's what the label on the sandwich says. My first encounter with Mundo's was over at PG Juice and Java. Making a quick trip over for coffee, I decided to kill two birds with one stone and grab one of these takeaway sandwiches for lunch. I picked up the baked chicken and bacon, with chicken breast, "real bacon pieces," romaine hearts, chipotle dressing, red onions and Muenster cheese on wheat bread. The sandwich was surprisingly tasty (I don't generally have high expectations for prepackaged deli sandwiches.) There was a generous portion of chicken; the red onions added a nice flavor; the chipotle dressing had a good kick to it. The only disappointment was the "real bacon pieces." Why the quotes? Because I think they literally meant "real bacon pieces"--as seen on the package for Bacon Bits and the like. I had been expecting fresh strips of bacon, so this was a bit of a letdown. Otherwise, it was a pretty tasty sandwich. My coworker enjoyed her sandwich--roasted turkey--too. Next time I'm on the hunt for a quick lunch, I'll keep an eye out for these mysterious Mundo's gourmet sandwiches. (And fellow Yelpers, if you've got more info on Mundo's, please post.)

Came here with the boyfriend and the puppy. The place is a family joint and everyone there is friendly and sweet. We sat outside to accommodate the puppy, which was nice. Would've liked a few more tables and chairs to encourage others to sit outside as well, though I know it's not exactly great scenery outside. My memory is somewhat fuzzy but I believe we ordered the grilled eggplant sandwich, the portabella mushroom quesadilla and also butternut squash soup. Everything was really tasty and fresh, and the soup was delightful. We would definitely come back to try other things!

Had I reviewed this place after the first time I went there it would have been 3 or 4 stars, but my second visit has changed that. First time I had the tri-tip sandwich and my wife had one of the quesadillas, both were pretty good. The second time I had the burger, and boy was that a mistake. It's up there on the top five list of worst burgers I've ever had. I took one bite and that was it. It was like sawdust, but not even moist sawdust, just dry sawdust, it was completely inedible. It was worse than anything you get at a fast food chain. The burger was either a bought in frozen pre-cooked (probably well done) and then cooked again for my order, or pre-cooked to past well done the day before, left out for hours the day before and then again the day I ordered it, then cooked again for my order.

Exactly what we need in Monterey county. Talk about DELICIOUS! This tiny little sandwich shop offers amazing food and excellent service. You can tell this is a passion project of the owner. His love comes through the menu. And they even have a drive through! Go, now, and support this local business who is doing it right!

  • Kay C.

I go here from time to time because they have a wide variety of menu items and it's usually pretty fast and convenient. I don't think the food is *quite* as great as all the other reviewers seem to, but it's totally acceptable. My favorites were probably the curry chicken sandwich, and some meat wrap that was on special. I found the falafel pretty bland, as well as the BLT. Tried several other items but nothing stands out as particularly tasty (although nothing was downright bad - just not very flavorful). I wish their chip selection were broader. I definitely like them well enough to keep going back and trying different items, though. Maybe I will find my perfect order. The coffee is verrry good!

We ordered the Squealing Pig Burger and the BBQ Tri-tip Sandwich. The squealing pig was a really good burger. It was overshadowed, though, by the awesome deliciousness of the bbq sandwich. Spent around $15 total, and couldn't even finish all of the tasty food.

Went here today with my mom...my first time, her third. Really fantastic! I had the Chicken Tuscany sandwich and it was sooo tasty. Fresh mozzarella, and basil, and thick-ass bacon slices cooked to perfection Mom had the Mundos tri-tip sandwich and she was oooing and ahhhing the whole time. Also, we ordered a slice of flan, which is THE best flan I've ever tasted...so creamy and good. I'll be back, for sure.

Exceptional quality for the price. You would most likely dive by this little shack without a second glance. The sandwich portions are generous. The bread and mozzarella taste homemade. The sauces and aoilis are unique and very tasty. We had the pesto chicken on ciabatta, the turkey club and the Mundos Tri Tip. Fantastic! Plus 3 drinks and under $30.

HOLY MOLY DELICIOUS!!! How has this mecca of deliciousness escaped me for a year?? Thank goodness we found it. The falafel, which is not typically my favorite, was insanely good here. WOW! And the Argentine Beef Sandwich was amazing, too. I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the items on the menu. Seriously, this place has good stuff!!

ULTIMATE DRIVE THROUGH ESPRESSO DRINKS on North Fremont westbound - the most important stop on your morning commute! Easy in and out access to the best tasting coffee and cookies! Burger was very good for the price. Would of liked to have french fries with my burger, but hey. This place needs a fountain drink machine, I had to buy two soda cans with my food. Also needs a bigger seating area. Overall I will come back to eat here.

went there today and had some great coffee and great sandwiches. I had the monterey sandwich with turkey and grilled red pepper on ciabatta. the bread was SO good! Very reasonable prices (i think each of our sandwiches was around 5 or 6 bucks)We'll definitely go back here again.

One of my favorite restaurants in the monterey area. The food is great and the owners are so nice! it's a family run business and they really get to know their customers which always nice. I've tried about 10 items on their menu and everything i've tried is excellent. My favorite is the Crispy Chicken Milanese and the Argentinian Tritip Panini. I Highly recommend!

Ok- let me start off by saying that this place doesn't look like much from the outside. My boyfriend and I are on a road trip from San Diego and were looking for a place to grab lunch. Saw the reviews on Yelp and decided to try it. I am SO glad we did. We had the tri-tip sandwich with the chimichurri sauce, I believe it was the top sandwich on the tri-tip menu, can't remember the exact name. It was incredible, and I don't say that about much food! Everyone working there was super friendly too. We will definitely be back next time we are up this way, and will be recommending it to our friends in the area. Don't drive past this place without stopping!!

Maybe it is just me, but when my first bite into a sandwich is a mouthful of fat---my lunch is ruined! I expected a hunk of fat in each bite after that, but only 1 more smaller piece of fat was to be found. Although large and the ciabatta bread was fresh , I wouldn't recommend the sandwich. The tri-tip tasted old with little flavor and I just didn't care for their chimichurri sauce. The small restaurant is clean and charming, but don't plan to return.

This place dominates. I get the Tri Tip sandwhich, the one with BBQ sauce, not the special sauce. I also dig the hamburger. I'm gonna have to go through the entire menu because what I've gotten so far has been amazing. The price is right and the food is oh so good. The mushroom thing is excellent and the other thing I forgot what it's called is good too. The only thing is, the cake in the window is freeze dried junk, do not order it.

Read the hype on Yelp and decided to try Mundo's last weekend. Now I'm scratching my head. I tried the Argentinian tri-tip sandwich, this cafe's signature dish, and was seriously underwhelmed. Yes, the ciabatta bread was good, the meat was tasty and the portions generous. But overall the sandwich was bland and well, unmemorable. I wouldn't call anything about it truly special, and can think of at least two places in the area that serve better tri-tip sandwiches (Henry's BBQ in New Monterey, and Salinas City BBQ). My wife had the chicken salad sandwich and had the same reaction... it was fine, but pretty ordinary. This place gets a solid three stars, but nothing more.

Wanted to find a good burger and sandwich place since we were spending a half day in Monterey. There isn't a whole lot of places to sit when you go inside to order, but they do have additional chairs and umbrellas outside. I looked online to get an idea of what to order before we arrived there. When I was at the counter however, I was disappointed to see that their online menu differed from they actually offered. I was looking forward to the turkey burger and was bummed they didn't have it. I guess I should have asked the owner, but darn my shy ways. I ended up ordering the Mozarella Chicken Pesto and it was really good. My husband ordered the Big Boy Burger. I had a chance to take a bite of it and I started to regret ordering the Chicken Pesto sandwich as the Big Boy Burger was really amazing. Super solid burger and sandwich. I will have to return here and give an updated review once I've tried more things off their menu. They have a really good selection of burgers though even for vegetarians. I'd be interested in trying their Portabello Veggie Burger. Oh, and they make some pretty mean Thai Iced Teas. Better than some Thai restaurants make. I'll definitely be returning to this place.

Best sandwich in town, maybe in all of Monterey Bay. No joke. I've tried a half dozen different Mundo's concoctions and I have yet to be disappointed. The breads all rock, sauces are yummy and each bite of sandwich is divine. The menu offers traditional fare along with tasty touches of mexican, argentinan and middle eastern influences. Don't go looking for a spacious dining room but there are some nice tables inside as well as some outside. Drive thru is also an option. This has been my go to sandwicheria for a couple of years now.

No frills, no fuss. Just really, really, REALLY amazing sandwiches. I'm usually full after half a sandwich.

Mundos is in our neighborhood and after all the great reviews we have read and heard lately, we finally went. Excellent variety on the menu to include vegetarian sandwiches, Burgers and speciality sandwiches. I had the Grilled Eggplant Sandwich which was served with lots of thin sliced eggplant perfectly grilled. My husband had the Choriqueso Burger. Wow, the burger filled the bun along with chorizo sausage layered on top. There were so many interesting sandwiches and burgers on the menu that we had a hard time choosing, but have vowed to return to try other fabulous items. Highly recommend as the food is made fresh, is served beautifully, and tastes GREAT! The staff is so pleasant. There a few tables inside this small place and a few tables outside. And if that doesn't suit you, a drive thru is available. Go and enjoy. You will not be disappointed!

I came here for lunch today. The sandwiches are awesome. They are very tasty. The sandwiches are bigger than an average sized sandwich. Highly recommend this place.

I got the tritip sandwich based on the reviews and was not disappointed. I liked how they press the sandwich so the bread is warm and crunchy. They also have drive-thru service which was great because i didn't have to take my baby out of the car seat while i was grabbing lunch on the go.

Best Hamburger I`ve ever had, anywhere hands down, you have to try it.

I bought my co-workers lunch today and everything was great. Great and friendly service (I called my order in). Food was excellent. I had the Mundo's Tri Tip. It was delicious. Burgers were huge. The vegeterian of the group thought the mozerella sandwich was excellent. The pickiest eater ordered the chicken pesto sandwich and raved about it. I am definitely coming back

We live in the neighborhood, but sadly for us, had not tried Mundo's until recently. Wow! Look at all we missed! Now, we're making up for lost time and working our way down the menu one-by-one. The BLT on ciabatta and the pastrami on marble rye are the best I've had anywhere. Have not found anything yet that was not terrific. Place is tiny, but very clean. Outside tables available. Family owned. Owner is always there.

  • R. L B.

Tiny little place but don't let that fool you. The sandwhiches are great as are the breakfast burritos. A healthier version of your typlical chorizo burrito. Fresh spinach, etc. Delish. They are extremely friendly as well.

  • Claire C.

Simply delicious! I had the portobello mushroom quesadilla. Yum! This is a tiny restaurant with just a few tables. There are some tables outside when the weather is nice. The awning outside is a little misleading. It's a green awning that reads "Pastries". I have driven by many times thinking coffee and sweets. NOT! What's inside are the best burgers and sandwiches on the peninsula. There are also some delicious sounding breakfast items. Reasonably priced with generous portion sizes.

  • K E.

I ordered the breakfast burrito and a burger which were both fantastic. The burger had good quality bacon and all of the trimmings were fresh. My chai could have been a bit hotter but tasted delicious anyway.

I absolutely love Mundos! My favorite sandwiches are The Monster, the Porkbelly with cranberry sauce, and the Cubanos. It's a little pricy for lunch but so worth it!

Cure little place. Great fresh sandwiches. The place isn't hard to find. The business of the street is a little annoying though.

I had quite possibly the best sandwich of my life here... Felt like my mind was being blown with every bite. The Argentinian tri-tip sandwich is perfectly composed: tender, flavorful cuts of beef paired with chimichurri sauce on wonderfully crunchy, but soft ciabatta bread. For many, bread is an afterthought when considering sandwiches, but for me, it's an integral part of the equation, the equation being: This sandwich + my mouth = transported to another world Combine the delicious food with the friendly, family service and you have a home run!! Check out this place; your stomach will thank you. Tip: ask for extra chimichurri sauce on the side

I came here last year to visit the Laguna Seca speedway. This place caught my attention because it was walking distance from my hotel. I'm back to visit again and this is my first stop. Ordered the paprika chicken bacon ranch sandwich. Flavorful and delicious aroma. I'm definitely will be back tomorrow.

Great place to grab lunch if you're in Monterey. When I checked out this place, I went for the heavily praised Argentinian Tri-tip sandwich. It did not disappoint; it was fantastic. I will definitely be back for lunch. This place is truly a five star restaurant because of it's top quality ingredients and unique lunch offerings. Be sure to check it out!

I live less than 5 minutes away and only discovered this great cafe a few months ago. It's a small and obscure place right in front of a motel with a few indoor and outdoor seating, but it has always been enough and I've never had trouble finding a seat. You order at the counter and they either call your name or bring the food to you at your table. My favorite things to order here are the Argentinian Tri-Tip Sandwich and the BBQ Tri-Tip Sandwich. Both sandwiches have very tender tri-tip. Both and seasoned quite differently. Go for the Argentinian Tri-Tip if you like a little citrus or tartness in your sandwich. The chimichurri is a good flavor to go with the tri tip. The BBQ tri-tip is a little on the sweeter side, so it's going to be a sticky and messy lunch. Well worth the potential sauce drippings on my shirt and pants.

I ordered a Falafel sandwich at the drive up window today; they were not busy; it took 25 minutes to get the sandwich. Two cars behind me drove off as they were tired of waiting. The waitress was just standing at the cash register doing nothing and she could care less that the two cars drove off. When I went to eat the sandwich the Falafel was raw inside; barely cooked on the outside. Will not go there again.

I have been a big fan of the Mundo Bro.s since they started. There are now three locations, and the Seaside and downtown Monterey locations are as good as ever. I am sorry to report that today, I had the Argentinian Brisket sandwich and noticed it just wasn't up to the usual standard. This was from the Fremont Street location. Nothing else was amiss, the cashier was pleasant, but cooked seemed friendly, but the sandwich just wasn't that good. I thought that the brisket was maybe a bit light portion-wise, too. It's 5:45 now, I had my sandwich at 120 in the afternoon, and I still have some indigestion and feel bloated. Hate to give a negative report, but I didn't go one or two stars here out of respect and past experience.... Think I will stick to the other two locations.

Squealing Pig Burger Gigantic portion, flavorful, and well worth ordering again. Only downside, the patty was overcooked and became dry. Would have preferred rare but not sure if the quality is good enough for that to be an option Overall Thoughts Solid place for a burger, glad to see they can do that at least right

We've been wanting to try this place for awhile, but it was always out of the way since we live in Watsonville. We were excited to try it, but a few things got in the way of us having an excellent experience. 1. Their bathrooms were "closed." After driving 30-40 minutes to get there, we were forced to drive to the CVS, as the people in the restaurant suggested, to use their bathrooms... also after lunch, eating sandwiches with your hands, there us NO PLACE TO WASH YOUR HANDS. 2. We ordered a drink and when it didn't come with our lunch, the server told us to get it out of the cold case our selves. When we went to get it ourselves, the drink we ordered wasn't in there. So they had to get one from the back, and luckily they served it to us with ice to it wouldn't be cold. 3. The table we sat at hadn't been cleaned off so we did it ourselves with paper napkins. 4. The good new was that the food was decent, and hey, pretty good even. Overall, 5 for food. 3 for mediocre facilities and service. It's probably a decent place if you live in town and you don't have to use their restrooms. But I won't got out of my way to eat their again. There are just too many good mom and pop places, too similar to them, near where we live and up in Santa Cruz.

Hubs and I took a quick trip up here for a weekend with our pup and lucky for us, Mundos was just across the street from the hotel! We ordered the tri tip and Monterey chicken sandwiches in the morning with the intention of eating it for lunch on our drive down to Big Sur. I believe we made it to the parking lot before we chowed down on half of each. The tri tip was what dreams are made of. At least in my dreams. I was SMRT and asked for extra chimichurri sauce and I suggest you do the exact same.

My husband has picked up lunch for us from Mundos three times now.. I would love to try more of their menu but I just cannot get past the oven baked carved turkey sandwich...just thinking about it makes my tummy groan. The cibbatta roll brings this sandwich together so well. All of the ingredients they use are very fresh and the quality is consistent. I can't comment on the cafe itself since we have not dined-in yet. If you're looking for a satisfying solid sandwich.. this is the place to go!

  • Lauren C.

The best sandwhich by far that I've ever had! I get the chicken pesto. My boyfriend got the trip tip and loved it and my dad got the eggplant which was so good with the sauce on it. Another time we got the bacon ranch one it was also really good. The service is very fast and they are really friendly I love this place and it's definitely a place I always have to go to when visiting my boyfriend in Monterey. (I've only been to mundos 2 and 3 however)

  • Sara M.

I've tried Mundos twice and both times I was disappointed with the vegetarian sandwiches. I tried the "Firebell" which was overpowering with the bell peppers, and the mozzarella sandwich, which was better after I added my own garlic mayo and grilled it at home. The owner was friendly, and a hard worker.

Bomb Argentinian tri-tip sandwiches smothered in chimichurri sauce. A little messy to eat but well worth it.

  • Dianey D.

If you are in a hurry make sure to call in advance as the line is very lengthy during lunch time. The sandwitches are great but its been a couple of times that I have been given potato salad instead of coleslaw because they've been out of it. It's 11:45 A.M and they are out of coleslaw? What?!

Was looking for a quick place to eAt in Monterey. I had been driving everywhere the whole day for work (San Jose-San Martin-gilroy-Watsonville-Monterey-San Jose) so I wanted to eat something satisfying yet not just another chain resto before I headed home. Couldn't find anywhere to eat off the highway so I yelped this sandwich place which was literally across the street from where I had parked to search online for places to eat. This place is small with three tables but the menu is definitely not small they had a variety of yummy sandwiches to chose from and different types of bread. I picked the Cubans with brisket. There was no pickle to be found but man this sandwich was huge fresh and yummy! Get this! I'll definitely be back if I'm in the area

    (5)
  • Brittany H.

Sandwiches are really good and service is good too. My only concern is that it's pricey. If the sandwiches were a little more affordable I'd good every week instead of every other month.

So delicious. Turkey clubs and the curry chicken salad sandwich were divine. Will definitely come back here.

  • Amara B.

Great sandwich place. Definitely small shack style restaurant. Staff needed one more person. And they were out of potato salad after I waited 5 more minutes in line to add it to our order. We had the eggplant and aregentinean brisket. Eggplant was awesome good flavors and taste. The brisket was great but had some fatty pieces that I had to discard. The brisket was also a little dry and could have used some aoli or extra chimmichurri. Bread is fresh and fantastic. Overall I'd recommend and come back.

In a retrofitted house, so it's difficult to spot and there's slim seating. You have to walk thru the kitchen to use the bathroom. However, service was friendly, and the sandwiches were all delicious! 7 of us ate there and each ordered something different, and everyone enjoyed their food.

Melted cheese, tasty greens, tender meat, I'm on it. Came here based on reviews and yelpers are spot on. Argentinian tri-tip, do it.

After reading the reviews we decided to try it! I had the pesto chicken sandwich and my husband had the warrior pork sandwich. The pesto tasted freshly made as well as the cheese. His was nice and spicy! Next time we will try something different since everything looks good! I saw that they are opening another location in downtown monterey so I will be trying that too!

Mundos cafe is amazing! I usually get the chicken sandwich with bacon. I always forget what its called. Friendly service and i love the horchata. The only thing i dont care for is the fact that they dont do combos. Everything is separate. I dont care for that but it will not stop me from coming here.

Head to buzzy Mundo's to sample brothers Eli and Fernando Mundo's family specialities. These skilled chefs serve up mouthwatering artisan sandwiches, burgers, wraps and desserts whose digs are low-key and relaxed. All the ingredients are sourced locally and all the bread is made in house. Fresh batches of their irresistible buttery, chewy bread and stretchy tortillas are baked daily. Their standout menu features many wonderful selections, including their signature Mundo's Tri-tip Sandwich, Argentinan Tri-Tip Sandwich, the Squealing Pig Sandwich, the Cubano, Chicken Pesto Sandwich, Chicken Curry Sandwich, Mexican Quesadilla, Chorizo Breakfast Burrito and the Falafel Wrap. The Tri-tip Sandwich was outstanding with the perfect meshing ingredients. Tender, well-seasoned tri-tip cuts topped with juicy tomatoes, lettuce and their house-made pesto aioli sauce wedged between their warm pressed ciabatta bread. The Chicken Curry was another great selection, full of creamy, subtly-spiced curry and spices. My friend and I split our sandwiches so it was nice to taste so many vibrant flavors in one sitting. Follow up with one of Mundo's fresh-baked desserts (chocolate mousse cake, macaroons, cookies and pies) and a steaming cup of coffee. Mundo's is open from 10 - 6 Monday through Friday and from 10 - 3 on Saturdays. They are closed Sundays. They do have a drive-thru option too. Highly recommend!

  • Janson N.

Very disappointed after hearing much hype. Got the Argentinean brisket. Not as much meat as it should have. Girlfriend got a turkey bacon ranch. They forgot the bacon and the meat was not very good she wouldn't eat it. Maybe ill give it another try but id stick with Randy's for half the price or compagnos for a few more bucks. 19$ for not so big sandwhiches.

I randomly chose this place based on Yelp reviews when hubby and I were driving to SF from LA. What an amazing find! We got the Cubana and Matador, and are thinking we will stop on the drive back to try something else! I will definitely tell anyone who takes this route to make a stop at Mundos!

I went here with my friend during lunch time, which is freaking busy. Everyone wants to get a seat but there is no seat available, so you have to wait until people leaves or make it togo :) Their food is not that expensive and the quality of the food is really awesome. Even the quantity of the food is too much that you can't finish it by yourself. I ordered one sandwich and one piece of cake, which was too much that we couldn't finish it at all. I would definitely come back and you should try it too!

Terrible service. The lady kept on rushing us, kept on telling me the price after every sandwich I said. Extremely rude. No bathroom. They have credit card stickers on their door but is cash only. This place sucks.

  • John H.

I tried out the tri-tip with the chimi-watchamacallit sauce... Not bad! It took surprisingly much longer for them to make than I expected, considering it was already lunch time so most food is already ready. But it was tasty and worth a try. Not sure it's anything I'd RAVE about though... For the sake of cutting down their expenses - as they are a small business - bring cash. They do accept debit/credit cards, but cash is much easier on the bank account for them. Not a big deal.

Located relatively close to the Monterey Country Fairgrounds, Mundos Cafe is within reasonable walking distance. Awesome little sandwich place that even has a drive through, one of a kind! I highly recommend the Mundo's Tri-tip Sandwich. Although the bread was a little tough and it cut up the roof of my mouth, the Mundo's sauce definitely made the sandwich taste amazing. There was so much meat and veggies in each mouthful that it made my jaw hurt just trying to bite it. Service was kind of slow. They forgot our order of unsweetened iced tea until we reminded them and they didn't even apologize.

    (4)
  • Clayton P.

the sandwiches and burgers are phenomenal. full of flavor and unique. i wish they had french fries though!! :( the tri-tip will convert you to a fan if you aren't one already.

  • Sara N.

This is a good place for sandwiches, they have a menu of vegetarian, premium beef and pork, specialty sandwiches and signature sandwiches. Prices were between 7-10 bucks. They were out of coffee and thai iced tea -so I ordered the iced tea because I had already waited in line, and that was watered down. The place is small but service is fast enough on a Sunday morning. Downside is that there are no restrooms to use.

I came here after reading all the reviews. I've been disappointed lately with all the food I have been eating lately... Mundo's Cafe did not disappoint. It stated on Yelp, they closed at 6pm, so I made sure to head there right after work at 5pm. I got there around 5:15 and was mad at the sky and the world underneath it when the sign was on and said, "open," yet the door was locked. I cursed. Sitting in the car, disappointed, my date and I yelped other restaurants to soothe our stomaches from the horrible chinese food we had the night before, which may have given us both food poisoning. 5-10 minutes later... we look up from our sad stomaches and one of the workers opened the door. Of course, I ran in. I got the vegetarian red pepper sandwich and added portobello mushrooms (6.95 +$1 i think for the mushrooms). It came out on ciabatta bread, toasted and panini like. It was piled high. It was a more bland taste that I'm used to, since I like italian/tangy like sauces... but no complaints here. It was really good. The bread was a little tougher/chewier than I expected, but still this sandwich was SO good.!!! My date got the chicken/bacon sandwich. He said it was really good and was stuffed. We both only finished half our sandwich. I got chips with my sandwich (1.25), bottle of water (1.25), my date ordered a side of potato salad (1.75). Dinner came out to about $23 which is a lil pricey for our sandwich dinner, BUT IT WAS SO GOOD compared to what I've been having since June. I saved my other half for dinner the next day. Microwaved it for a minute, then baked it for 5 minutes. I swear the sandwich tasted better with age! SO GOOD. I think I liked it more the day after. I can't wait to go back. Wish they served fries with their sandwiches.

The kept the store open for us and its been a great relationship ever since. You can tell everyone in the shop takes pride in their store and their craft. Its a gem in Monterey. All the sandwiches have a unique twist. I will be here again next time I am in town.

This the worst. The staff ignored us. The food was horrible and disgusting. The place was filthy. DO NOT BOTHER GOING HERE TO EVEN GET A CUP OF COFFE.

My sandwich was served to another individual outside.. She took it in the back & a few minutes later served it to me. My husband said it was still delish. The quesadilla was delish.

I had the turkey club on sourdough and my fiancé had the California bacon ranch. The turkey club has thick juicy slices of turkey on fresh sourdough, thick crispy bacon and a yummy sauce drizzling through the ingredients. Yummy!!! My fiancé said his was good but wished it had more ranch on it. Only downside was we didn't see a public restroom. But it's a tiny little shop with awesome and truly "gourmet" sandwiches. We'll be back when we're in Monterey again.

  • Lydia W.

Went in to grab coffee, waited for about 10 minutes as two guys messed around with some food in tin foil behind the counter without even acknowledging that there were people there. Finally we were asked what we wanted with just the word, "Yes?" and when we ordered we were told that their coffee machine was broken. Cool. During those 10 minutes of waiting for nothing I got to observe the sad slices of cake behind the counter and the overall depressing nature of the place. Go elsewhere for coffee.

Listen to the other yelp reviewers!! You can't go wrong with the Tri-Tip or the Squealing Pig if you love beef. Nice local place with delicious and reasonably priced food and an indoor and outdoor seating area. Mundo's Tri-Tip Sandwich: one word. amazing. love the bread they use and their homemade sauce. Squealing Pig: delicious burger with bacon. what more could you ask for? you have a side dish choice of potato salad or chips. If you are in the Monterey area, check out this joint for lunch. It is definitely worth the short 5 minute drive from the Cannery Row / aquarium area. I'll be back next time to try out their other sandwiches.

My Ratings: Quantity: 4 - Huge sandwich - good for two! Quality: 4 - Delicious Price: 4 - Just right! Location: 3 - Small but clean! Parking: 3 - Parking lot or street parking Service: 4 - Nice, friendly folks! Speed: 4 - Quick! Overall: Too bad this place is far from my house but it's good to know where it is when we come back.. and we definitely will come back! My Opinion/Story: I got their Mundos Cubano and it was delicious. They ran out of the chicken so I got the beef instead. It was still delicious and the portions were too big for me. So I gave my share to my husband after he gobbled his own. I love that they toasted the bread and the veggies were fresh. They serve really good quality sandwiches! It was also nice that they have patio seating for my dog.

Fresh and delicious sandwiches. The Cubana sandwich is my favorite, tri-tip or chicken, both are delicious! The Horchata is not too sweet and you get a nice big glass. I eat here once or twice a week. It is my favorite sandwich in the Monterey area! You can call ahead or order online and pick up at the drive-thru or just sit down outside or in.

So far so good.... We got pulled pork bbq. Asked for no cheese but it was good. The Black Forest ham was really yum. The bbq brisket is so good, very little fat! The fb said they would get a discount if we liked their page, but they didn't. We asked about it, the guy said we would, but I think he forgot. They were very nice though. I liked the fact that they also had the choice of gluten free bread because that is easier on my belly (having Crohn's disease). It was really good too! The pineapple coleslaw was really good too! Must try!

Another great Yelp find ... I would never have ventured here at all if it wasn't for YELP. FYI, their exterior color is red (to match the Red Roof Inn next door?) and they're a small place to find so just look for Red Roof Inn and you'll find it. They do take credit cards but like cash (so they don't have to pay the extra service fees that CC companies make vendors pay for processing) ... support local and pay cash:-). Husband got a Mundo? I think sandwich, and loved it! A bit messy but he said it was delicious. I got the Falafel sandwich ... I'm a carnivore but loved this sandwich just as much. Kiddies had cheese quesadillas ... Support your local businesses! This one definitely deserves the support and I wish them many years of continued service! Also side note, they have another location too, and we also happened to drive right by it as part of our vacation road trip :-) ...

Five Star Sandwich Shop. On this particular day, I ordered the Tri-tip sandwich with Jalapeno Chips and a piece of the Raspberry Lemon Cake. The sandwich was so big I could only eat half. The cake was just ok but it was mainly because of the thick layer of that weird icing that I do not like. It looked really pretty though. My colleagues enjoyed there sandwiches and soups very much. I was envious of one of the turkey sandwiches that my colleague had. It looked amazing.

Online menu prices need to be updated but person at the counter seemed not to care. Had call in an order for a cubano to go and was ready when I got there. Good place to grab a quick bite but not sure about eating there. As I stood there counter person took unwrapped orders out to patrons and but took to wrong table. Customers brought back in to say wrong order after they had opened up to see wrong ingredients and set on counter. She then proceeded to serve to correct table without making a new one for for them. I am not real hip on someone else handling my food that who knows where they have been. I really liked the food but have to question some of their policies and cleanliness.

Really small. Just a few 2 people tables that can be moved together & a few outdoor tables, that are in the sun...but really good sandwiches & burgers. Artesian Tri-tip was yummy! The burger was like I cooked it on the bbq at home, delicious, not dry. Nice owner. Seems a popular place for being so tiny. Would definitely eat here again.

The tri tip Cuban was delicious. However, being from Miami, Florida with Cuban heritage I can say it is not a true Cuban. Either way, it is a fantastic sandwich in its own right. And you can't beat the price. A lot of food for the money.

Ordered the albacore and was thoroughly disappointing. Where were the apples, celery, etc that they advertise??? It was plain tuna with a scarce amount of mayo. Dry and yukky....the birds got it, I just couldn't stomach it. We also ordered a bbq beef sandwich. No bbq sauce ;-/ Very disappointing lunch. Won't go back

I'm currently sitting waiting for order a mundos tri tip I'm salivating stomach rumbling don't know if I can make it, but I can and I will as I know every juicy bite is worth every painful second. I hear the brown paper bags opening in the back as they pack my sandwich away that means I'm outa here no more time for reviews I've waited long enough and if you've eaten here you know you agree ITS THE BEST

I had never been here before today but heard they have some of the best sandwiches on the peninsula. After today, I have to agree. I got the grilled chicken pesto sandwich with fresh mozzarella. Oh boy was it good!! The chicken was grilled to perfection. Juicy but cooked enough to have a great brown crispiness. The mozzarella was very good, the bread was super fresh and very tasty. The price of the food is very fair. $18 for two sandwiches, a soda and a bag of chips. The restaurant is very cozy and clean. The staff is very friendly and it's just an overall great place to go for a good lunch. They also have burgers, quesadillas and falafel. They also have cake that looks amazing. I highly recommend Mundos to everyone.

My first impression of this place is really good. The only problem I really had here was the lack of outdoor tables, since I had a dog with me. Thus, I would say that this place isn't very dog friendly. Parking was also a bit difficult. The place in general seems small. The service is okay, but the food is really good. I will be back.

Delicious sandwiches, quickly served, fair price and good services. It's a very nice place for a quick meal.

Sandwiches were amazing. We loved the bread. Everything tasted fresh. I only wish it was a bit larger, they only had few tables inside and it was super sunny outside. They are opening another one. We'll stop by again for sure next time we're in town.

So good!! Great price. I got the mundos tri-tip sandwich, which was delicious, but the bf got the Argentinian tri-tip sandwich, which totally blew me out of the water. I had clearly erred. The pesto sauce totally made it, and the meat quality (in both) was outstanding. Now a must-visit when in Monterey.

  • Helen H.

The quality of the meat has gone done since the last time I was here (about two years). The Mundos Brisket was on the dry side, and the sauce was simply Thousand Island dressing. They used to have tri-tip sandwiches that were amazing!

    (3)
  • Kristyn D.

Hmmmm. It was good. But don't get too excited about the Argentinian TriTip. They no longer have it. They said the brisket was their best seller. Good flavor to the sandwich but the brisket was a bit dry. Service was decent. They were nice and timely.

1st timer Great place Great customer service Loved the all natural coconut water Tried the mundo brisket (sauce tastes like thousand island sauce) I would give it an 8 on the sandwich but that's just because I'm used to ordering bbq brisket elsewhere and bbq is just so darn good. Enjoy :)

Two stars for this mundos location. Ordered the Cubana which I've had before at mundo's 2 in marina. The sandwich had an overwhelming bitter taste until I realized the romaine lettuce was expired, very expired. Dark green to the point of black. That is just a complete lack of care and irresponsibility on the cooks part. Piece of advice to the chef if you receive lettuce that is that bad, either don't use it or go to a market within walking distance and buy $15-20 worth of fresh lettuce out of your own pocket, and don't give me they don't pay me enough to do that. Doesn't matter, you're a chef/cook you have a responsibility of serving food that won't make you ill. They also forgot to put the ham on the sandwich, which kinda makes it no longer a cubana. Too much chorizo, not enough pork. Too much dressing. The place is also dirty with dead flys on the floor. Needs a good mopping. This does not take away from mundo's 2 in marina which is FANTASTIC!!! The staff is nicer, the sandwiches are better and they cook the tri-tip right there and you have the option of getting it on the Cubana which you don't at the Fremont location. They put more meat on the sandwiches too. And the exact right amount of dressing. It is also a lot cleaner, a lot cleaner and a clean front room means a clean kitchen. It really shows how much staff and cooks make a difference even though they use the same products. Summary: try the marina location it is worth the extra drive, best sandwiches on the peninsula. Don't bother with fremont, they just don't care so neither should we. Fremont location 2 STARS Marina location 5 STARS!!!!

I ordered the Argentino trip tip salad with potato salad. The meat was so tender, the lettuce was fresh, and the chimichuri sauce was excellent. I wish that they put the sauce on the salad as well and not just the meat. The potato salad was good and well seasoned. It's a small place so you might have a hard time getting a table.

Small little sandwich show with four small tables inside and three small tables outside. Sandwiches were good, a bit sloppy and they knew it when they served it to me as the gal delivering the food commented on how soggy it was, but I was game to give it a try anyhow. There is a very small bathroom inside the the place but you have to walk through the kitchen to get to it. Nice and clean inside the bathroom, but very small. The cook/chef was very friendly as was the cashier/waitress. I am going 4-stars but will be back for sure as an occasional lunch go to place and will give them anotyher shot for 5-stars next time.

This place is delicious. The cashier/waitress was a bit short with us (six person party at a relatively small sandwich shop) hence 4 stars. Also not a very wide selection of drinks. But I digress! I ordered the mozzarella sandwich. It had a delicious pesto dressing spread on the perfect fresh ciabatta roll. Fresh mozzarella, slices of deliciously ripe tomatoes and fresh crisp romaine lettuce. This sandwich was simple and damned delicious! I got chips on the side and they were tasty as well. I would definitely recommend this place for a quick bite or takeout! The service was fast and everyone was super happy with their food.

Not sure what the HYPE is all about with this place, but we briefly stopped in and ordered the Fire Bell Sandwiches, which came with Fire roasted bell peppers, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, onions, Mundos dressing and cheese. These were not that big and there was way too much dressing! The Fire Bell Sandwich, was too GOOEY and WET! I felt like we were eating a sloppy, over soaked salad with tons and tons of dressing and way too much romaine lettuce, actually is was mostly romaine lettuce..that's pretty much what it tasted like.. a soaked salad! I felt ripped off..there were barely any peppers......GOSH....... I could barely taste the peppers, because there was too much dressing! YUCK!.. It wasn't great, it was just mediocre. I've had better sandwiches and I'm sorry , but this wasn't anything to slap a blue ribbon on, nor 5 Stars. I actually felt sick when I was leaving...too much dressing, way too much! I felt like I drank a bottle of salad dressing, after eating that! UGHHHH! it was GROSS! Sorry, never going back and and not even a "freebie offer", will give me the desire to even try them again. Sorry, I didn't like that sandwich at all! If it's not good the first time, why would I even want to try it a second time?! JUST MEDIOCRE. .

Delicious sandwiches, no wonder everyone goes here. It's a tiny place but a few tables outside are nice when the weather's not too cold. It's close by the main street of Fremont, so you can hear all the traffic whizzing by. Very generous portions, so smaller appetites might prefer to split one with a friend. Expect about $10 a sandwich with a side and $2 for a drink Had the tri tip steak which was delicious, tender meat, with a strong basil presence for those who like that flavor, with cooked tomato. The Cuban crispy chicken had great crispy chicken smoothered in a combination of tasty flavors. Friendly staff, nice pictures on the wall sold by the owner photographer.

Getting the awesome sandwich we got last time. Aw, price higher and a lot less meat. Guess they have too to stay in business because beef is so, so expensive. But still tasty as ever.

REALLY great sandwiches! Fried chicken sandwich and Cubans were excellent! Perfect lunch before leaving Monterey. It's tiny inside but it does have some outdoor seating. I loved the softness of the ciabatta but the excess flour on it was hard to get around. It began to form a paste in my mouth. Highly recommend :)

  • Lindsey L.

Came here for an early dinner and had the tri tip special with chimmichurri - as delicious as all the pictures look - my husband got the "monster" which has a little bit of everything. I was worried it would be a mountain of a sandwich, but it was not too much larger than the tri tip. Everything was very good, and one of the owners (assuming? An older lady who had access to the kitchen) was knitting when we came in and gave me a knit beanie while we were eating - very friendly! This is at the new location, in downtown - empty when we came in but so glad we didn't get scared for lack of a crowd.

  • Todd V.

Good and fast sandwichs the tri tip was really good. The bread is good it reminds me of bread usef to make pork sandwiches in Italy. The side options are chips or potato salad. The sandwiches will run you from 8 to 11 dollars. They also have Thai tea which was a plus.

Best kept secret! Amazing sandwiches. My wife and I had the chicken with chimichurri dressing and their pork sandwich with their house 'Mundo's' sauce (has a kick) and I will say that it is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. It stars with the quality ingredients - perfectly cooked chicken breast (not dry), perfect ciabatta rolls, pork that had attention paid to it while cooking, the chimichurri was well constructed with herbal notes and a bright vinegary finish and last but certainly not least, Mundo's sauce. Well done! The staff brought out the sandwiches to us - I always appreciate the little extra touches. It's important. Thank you guys for a memorable lunch. If you want to partner up and open one in San Diego, get in touch with me!

HUGE DELICIOUS SANDWICHES! My wife and I shared the Argentinian brisket and the Mundos Cubana with pork. Both sandwiches were excellent! We were both full after eating just half a sandwich each. We took our sandwiches to go, and we had a picnic overlooking Monterey Bay. We plan to come back to Mundos Cafe every time we come to Monterey!

I was feeling sandwich-y, and there really are a limited number of vegetarian friendly non chain sandwich places in the world. It really is a tiny little place. I was concerned about getting a place to sit, but thankfully it wasn't too busy. I had the falafel sandwich, and it was great. They don't skimp on the falafel. I only wish they had better options for sides than just chips.

Needed a quick bite while in Monterey. Of course, whenever I'm in a city I don't know, I do my best to support local. This place is as small as small business gets. They ask for cash only if possible. There's a sign by the counter that says that. When you look up at the board, you do see the lots of sandwich choices. Of course, like everyone says the Tri Tip with chimichrri sauce is the must get. Of course I got that and since I'm a big fan of bbq, I also got the BBQ tri tip. Both sandwiches were $9. I ordered potato salad on the side for $2.25 more. Oh, what I didn't know was that they have a little drive through here. So if you were in a rush like me, you can call ahead and pick it up as the drive through seems to have more priority. I had to wait for my sandwich that was already done and sitting on the counter for about 5 minutes while the lady who takes the order had to take care of the drive through and other people. The tri tip bbq sandwich was tender and the bread was soft but just slightly crusty enough on the outside it holds the sauce. Same goes with the one with the chimichurri sauce. It's basically the same sandwich but the BBQ one just was smothered with BBQ sauce. Note: The tri tip does come with cheese that's melted. So if you don't want it, let them know. It doesn't seem to say that in the list of ingredients on their website. I asked for a side of chimichurri sauce and by itself, I wouldn't say it was great. I also would say these chunks of beef are huge for tri tip. The beef seem more like a roast cut that have been slow roasted. I make BBQ all the time and tri tips are usually smaller. No matter though, I'm a fan. So for good sandwiches in the Not so touristy area of Monterey, this would be your place to go.

Had the tri tip sandwich and it was excellent! The meat was flavorful and tender and the bread, holy cow the bread was amazing! Someone in our group got the pineapple coleslaw and it was also excellent. We will definitely be coming back!

I went to this place because I wanted a Philly cheese steak and it was suggested by Yelp. To my dismay, they don't make Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches here but they did have a very good BBQ pork sandwich.

One of the finer sandwhiches I have had. Hard to find something of this quality on first try when you are from out of town. Was at festival across the street and walked here and saved a few bucks and got a much higher quality meal. Thanks Mundos

  • Sam L.

These guys are the real deal. I come through here whenever i'm in town for work and they NEVER disappoint!! The squeeling pig is soo damn awesome. And of course the mundo tri tip. Its probably the softest tri tip i've ever had. These guys make everything feom the sandwhiches to the sides. If you get here too early the tri tip might not be ready yet. But its worth the wait! If you get here too late, some sides might be out. Thats how good they are. Everything is fresh for the day. They won't ever disappoint. Oh and the service is so amazingly awesome here!!

Came for lunch during a trip to Monterey because I saw someone's picture on tell and said "I NEED TO GO THERE!" Heads up: Google maps on the iPhone was wrong so if you're following that, go down about another street. There's also only a few tables here. Three on the inside and three outside. Anyway, we ordered the falafel and chicken milanese sandwich. Cost: $18 (with an iced tea). Both sandwiches were big in size and very filling. Falafel: came with some sauce on the side which had a kick to it and the pita was super soft! Would maybe get it again...after I've had everything else on the menu. Chicken milanese: was told this was the same as the chicken mundos cubana minus the ham, chorizo and bacon (since I don't eat any of those). That was really good too! The bread was good, the chicken was white meat and pan fried to perfection. I did wish it had a liiiiittle more sauce in it though. All in all, I would DEFINITELY come back.

This is an updated review for Mundo's based on our latest visit. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the tri-tip sandwich. Tri-tip sandwiches can be dry and sometimes the cut is tough. Mundo's tri-tip is moist and tender. We had it on a ciabatta roll which combined perfectly with the house sauce and tomato slice. For me this is the definitive tri-tip sandwich. Price tag $9.00. We split it and it was plenty of food. Our son had the Turkey Club. The pliable ciabatta holds the contents nicely. This wasn't the same experience I had the other day at Mundo's with the exploding whole wheat bread. The proprietor was working alone and we caught him just before closing. As he was making our order three other parties showed up. The guy looked exhausted but it did not interfere with putting quality across the counter.

Heard good things about mundos, so we attempted to go to the one on Webster st a couple of months ago since they close at 9pm which isn't true they close at 5pm. So today we tried out mundos on Fremont and it wasn't good. The sandwiches were expensive and small and didn't taste very good. Oh and the sign outside of the Fremont location says the one on Webster closes 9pm when they close at 5 save yourself the time and money.

Had the crispy chicken Cuban after seeing a picture of it on yelp. The sandwich is huge. Next time we will share it. Tiny little shop with indoor and outdoor seating. They have a restroom in the back and you walk through the kitchen to get to it. Kitchen was VERY clean and organized - I'd return

Don't go here without trying the Tri-Tip! I originally wanted to try the Argetinian Tri-Tip for the Chimichurri sauce that everyone raves about, but since they were out of Chimichurri when I was there, I tried the Mundo Tri-Tip instead. D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S! The meat was tender and flavorful. The bread was delicious. It all came together SO WELL. Wish I still had the chance to try the Argetinian, but the Mundo didn't disappoint! I also tried the falafel...meh. It wasn't bad, but when you have tri-tip on the menu, you're making a mistake if you choose to order this instead.

This place is everything I want in a sandwich shop! I usually grab a quick bite before getting a trim next door at reds! The chicken bacon ranch sandwich is scrumptious as well as their array of brisket sandwiches. Their hibiscus tea is a perfect treat for a warm day out on the patio. As with all small business I try to pay cash and they are happy to take it here!

Mozzarella sandwich was delicious, the hub had the Pastrami sandwich with jalapeños oh so good. Oh and they now have a second location in downtown.

    (5)
  • John C.

Argentinian Tri Tip: The sandwich itself was pretty small but flavorful. Although the Tri Tip was moist you didn't get much of it. Definitely a $5.00 sandwich, $6.00 TOPS. So the $8.00 plus price leaves a very bad taste and basically felt ripped off. Pastrami: Decent size sandwich. The pastrami was very mild almost too mild. If your expecting pastrami in the traditional sense you will be disappointed. Yes the ingredients are fresh, the bread toasted just right but you definitely don't get what you pay for. Really cannot see the 4.5 star average - the prior reviews must be taking into account sandwich shops specifically located on N. Fremont St.

Mundos is my go to lunch spot when I am in the mood for a delicious sandwich. Not once have I ever had an issue with any of their locations. The staff is always friendly and ready to take your order with a smile on their faces. I love nothing more than a family owned business that does well! You can't pick a bad sandwich from their menu and I love that they have burgers as well! If you are looking for a delicious sandwich at the right price then give Mundos a shot, you will not be disappointed!

We came here because La Salary is closed Sunday. What a find! We had the BBQ pork and the Monterey chicken. Both were fabulous. They were out of chimichurri sauce, so we did not try the Argentine specialties. We cannot wait to come back.

The Mundos cubano was absolutely amazing! We had it with brisket and another with crispy chicken they were both equally delicious mmmm mmmm. We got a cheeseburger for our 7year old and it was one of the juiciest I've ever had! In from out of state for the night and will be going back before we leave!!

Best sandwich ever! The Cubana. I have had the tri-tip, the chicken and the pork Cubana. All great!

    (5)
  • Cindy X.

The sandwiches here are so good, at reasonable prices (~$8-10 for just a sandwich, but it's pretty large and loaded w/ stuff)! The place is small, can probably only seat 15-20 people total. I got to try the Argentinian Tri-Tip, the Mundo's Brisket, and the BLT (yay for sharing with friends), and all of them were delicious, though the tri-tip was the best for me. Argentinian Tri-Tip: pesto flavor, olive oil, amazingly delicious tri-tip Mundo's Brisket: orange aioli sauce, delicious brisket BLT: bacon is not served hot, and is a pretty normal sandwich, except for the signature bread panini-pressed with cheese on top Too bad this place is in Monterey - I could totally imagine myself coming here quite often just to sample all the other sandwiches in their sizeable menu if only it were local to me.

    (5)
  • Erika E.

WOAH. Now that's what I call a sandwich! Checked out this place with a friend because it was highly recommended and the Yelp reviews sounded promising. Usually, I'm not the type of person who'll go out for a sandwich because I can always make it myself if I just want some ingredients slapped between two slices of bread, but in this case, I'm glad I went out for Mundos. DELICIOUS! I tried the tri-tip and my friend got BBQ chicken and we were both more than satisfied with our choices. It's a small place with not much seating, but we took out so it was no big deal. The quality of their sandwich more than compensated for their lack of available seating. Good customer service, reasonable prices, huge portions, and just overall GREAT food. A must-try... and try... and try again! I'll be back for sure!

Today my foodie partner in crime craved a sandwich, in turn, i craved a sandwich. Our appetites were met by Mundos. i think they are cash only. We shared a Cubano sandwich and horchata. Sandwich(9): Filled with tri tip, chirizo and black forest ham and enclosed in a crunchy, warmed ciabatta, it was a yummy sandwich. It was a neatly put together sandwich, nothing fell out, which is a sandwich requirement of mine. The sandwich was smaller than what i expected compared to the price tag, but i guess times have changed. Horchata(2): I'll skip this milky concoction next time. It was ok, it could have used more rice flavor and cinnamon. overall: i'd stop by for a quick bite, but i dont plan on making it a meal here.

Awesome sandwiches. The Mundos brisket sandwich on ciabatta roll can't be missed. They also have fresh carved turkey.

    (5)
  • Jennifer C.

Split the Argentinian tri - tip. The bread was soft and crusty, the meat was tender, but I really didn't like the sauce. Was it really chimichurri? I've had authentic chimichurri sauce before and this was not it. Tried the cheese quesadilla - massive with a ton of cheese inside. Found a hair melted into the cheese. Tried the hamburger. Was really looking forward to the bacon infused part, but didn't notice it. Still good though. Was there with three other folks. Two liked their meals but probably won't be back. The staff was friendly. There is enough seating for at least ten people (maybe 12?) inside (tables of two). Outside there are two small tables.

Fantastic. I Came here with friends a couple of tImes the last week and I love it. I have yet to find a sandwich that I do not like. It has a very calming relaxed atmosphere because of its Size but I always have a great time with my friends. I recommend the Mundos Brisket. absolutely fantastic

Had the tri-tip & brisket sandwiches. Really good bread, sauces, meats.... Holy @#%@! They were soooo good! Everything everyone else had looked great too. Gotta try 'em all. Great chill lunch spot. Really great sandwiches, huge variety, and a great drink menu as well. Everything there was great, we had 4 different things and we're all fully satisfied. Good portions, enough to fill you up but not too much. Main con - lack of seating. You're either in a cramped room or in the parking lot. They plan to expand to downtown which is good but don't bring more than 3 and expect good seating

  • John B.

Very good sandwiches and burgers, reasonable prices, and a friendly, family-owned atmosphere. Wife had the chicken pesto mozzarella sandwich and it was delicious! I had the burger with chorizo and mozzarella melted on top. The "Choriqueso". Truly top-notch. They have a little entrepreneur who will definitely charm you, (one of their kids, I believe) but I'm not sure how often he's there. Very casual and comfortable indoor outdoor seating. The baked goods look delicious but we didn't try any. Definitely worth a stop if you want something fast and good.

Yummy hearty sandwiches. Not a typical coffee shop because it has surprisingly great food, but not a huge selection of coffee drinks. Pretty small; a few tables and chairs outside. Drive through is very convenient. Great place for casual brunch or lunch. I will be back here for sure.

Size doesn't matter!!! I am talking about the size of the restaurant. This is a small place with outside seating. The staff was great and friendly. Now let's talk about the food. I got the Grill Chicken and Bacon sandwich. It was great the bread was crispy and favorite of the chicken just comes out!! The size of the sandwich was huge, but it wasn't messy to eat!! Love this place!!

Great stop! We were in the area with two small kids and saw they had a drive thru, so we stopped. Delicious, flavorful food and nice, fast service. I had the special leg of lamb sandwich with cilantro & onions on fresh, crusty bread. Yum!

This place just so conveniently happens to be right down the street from my house... :) I'm not a big sandwich fan, but the hubby is. Safeway subs are meh, but this place always has something intriguing to me... Very different types of sandwiches or they also have your average sandwiches as well. The service is a little slow, so I don't recommend coming if you're in a hurry, but it's always WELL worth the wait!

Went here for lunch recently on a weekday. Lunch was really good! Had the BBQ Tri-tip and we couldn't be happier with it. Went here on a recommendation from a friend and when I finally went, it was not a let down. This place is small but don't let that fool you! Its a great place to have a nice lunch to talk and enjoy the area. There is lots of traffic, people and hustle and bustle in this area making it feel like a fun, active place! The service was quick, food was good, cheesecake was great and I can't complain! Would definitely go here again. They also have vegetarian options if you are into that!

Just one of the best sandwich shops we've ever been in. The food is incredible. We had a argentinian tri-tip that was as flavorful and juicy as I have ever had, and served with a tomato and cheese on a roll together with an outstanding falafel. I think what really sets this place apart is that they are actually using locally sourced and properly stored fresh ingrediants, as opposed to some restaurants that claim to have locally sourced food, but it has either been subsequently frozen, left to age, improperly prepared or it was never local in the first place. Not at Mundo's! This is the real deal and all served up at a fair price. The service has a few minor hiccups, otherwise it would be a five star. But the service does come with a genuine smile, so that counts for a lot.

Tri tip done right. Juicy, flavorful, sliced thin across the grain. I've been three times in the last few months, and had a plethora of items, even though I could have gotten the tri tip every time. The carne asada quesadilla was perfect; not overfilled, but still bursting. The tortilla was perfectly crisp without being too rigid. The cheese, meat, and tomato combined to make my taste buds very happy. It had my inner Spicoli chiming, "Hey buds! Let's party!", as opposed to "Aloha, Mr. Hand", or "Don't worry. My dad has an awesome set of tools." How do I not own Fast Times on DVD? Eat here. Bring cash. Enjoy. Just remember: No shirt, no shoes, no dice!

This is a pretty amazing place. I was a little underwhelmed by the food choices in Monterey while visiting my brother for a few days until we hit Mundos on my last day. Mundos Cafe is mainly a sandwich/burger joint but they are really much more than that. If your looking for vegetarian (as I was), they have a fantastic house made falafel sandwich here that is bigger and better than any other. When I ordered it, they guy at the front looked a little sad and asked the dude in the kitchen a question then told me that they had just ran out of their house-made pitas. Before I could even start to be bummed, he said they would be happy to make some fresh pitas but it could take as long as 10 minutes. Ummm, yeah, of course I will wait 10 freakin' minutes for some fresh out of the oven pita. They got to work and in no longer than 10 minutes, my sandwich was made and brought out to me. It has about 6 or 7 large sized falafels, house tzatziki, freshly chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, hummus, and probably some other stuff I don't remember right now for about $7. Well worth it. For those of you that don't care about your health, the planet, animal cruelty, or your fellow man, your in luck! They have some delicious sounding burgers and sandwiches including the bacon infused burger, cuban sandos, and other artery clogging murder munchies. jk, chill out, but seriously... They also have some super tempting looking cakes and other pastries. I was one flash impulse away from dropping my will power and getting a big ol' slice of chocolate or princess cake for only $2.75. At this point I really think I made a mistake. This might be one of the best kept secrets in Monterey. One down side, they close at 6pm.

Argentinean Tri-Tip! This was a delicious sandwich that I decided on after reading multiple reviews from others, so thank you my fellow Yelpers! The tri-tip was cut into tender slices with chimichurri sauce, tomato and cheese. All this incorporated into the best cibbatta roll I have ever had! The cibbatta had the right amount of crunch to it, making it the perfect sandwich! They also make a really good Thai Iced Tea. Not too sweet like some other places do it! Final Thoughts: Wish the sandwich was accompanied by a side dish. Other than then, sheer genius!

Yum! Quaint little place for lunch. Argentian brisket sandwich and bbq tritip sandwiches were great. service behind counter was nice. Potato salad good...red potato gave good flavor and not over dressed with too much mayo like at so many places but maybe that's why some reviewers felt it was "dry." Would come here again if in area.

Loved this place! Very sweet quick and amazing good sandwhich. We got the Cuban it was soooo good! So glad I read the reviews on this place and we stopped by. It is a small little building you would drive by if you didn't know what you were looking for. Plan on paying in cash, but its worth it!

Wow! Gf & I split two sandwiches--falafel (wrap) and mozzarella. Delicious!! Ingredients were fresh, flavors popped. Some of the best falafel I've had anywhere--and good quantity. Generous amount of cheese on the other sandwich, w/yummy pesto, tomato slices...Fresh roll, crisp on outside, tender yet toothsome inside. Can't be beat at about $7 a pop! Service was fast, even though they were busy. (While the food is a FIVE, there are still some issues with service. PLEASE--if I order a drink, even if it's just a cup of water, give it to me right away, or bring it to me with my food. And don't just smile at someone if you don't understand what they've said--communicate with your customers.)

We went back and its still so good! I had the Argentine Tri Tip (again) and Mr R ordered the Mundos Tri Trip sandwich. If you are in Monterey, this is a place you must visit. Ask the employees for a list of the most popular sandwiches, and they'll help you order. Or just order the Argentine Tri Tip!

3 1/2 but will give 4 stars because the steak sandwiches were delicious but I don't understand the hype over the burgers, and I did not care for anything else that I ordered.

Although they are not from the Falafel Motherland (Eli and crew do not pretend to be) you may think they are after you taste their new tasty menu addition the Falafel. I was served up 3 Falafels on a bed of lettuce (the gluten free way because I couldn't eat the pita). Killer and great with their house Tzatziki sauce. Enjoy them right away when they are hot, crispy on the outside and perfect in the inside. Everything I've had here is top-notch, made in house and with lots of love.

Why, why, why did I find this place? I got the argentinian brisket and stepdad got the tri-tip. Hooked!, can't stop obsessing over my brisket sandwich. Incredibly good, the best sandwich by far and by all. Juicy brisket, perfectly topped with a chimichuri, on a perfect bread and not too much of this and that to ruin my sandwich. I am screwed. Although everything else on the menu looks great but no way will I try anything else. People, the brisket and tritip is too good. Man, I talk about this place like I own stock but only been there twice. Oh! I did get the red velvet cake, don't do it. Not so bueno. Perfect little place to grab a sandwich and head to the beach.

While driving up the 1 with the lady, we stopped off at Mundos to try out their sandwiches. I had the Argentinian Tri-Tip, she had the Tuscan Chicken... wow. Both, were stellar! The Tuscan Chicken was a burst of flavor, and the Argentinian Tri-Tip boasted some nice n' tender, thin-cut slices of tri-tip which were finely enveloped by the ultimate Argentinian creation**, Chimichuri. ** To the best of my knowledge... Management was also quite friendly! Will be stopping by there if I'm up in that area again.

My friend and I had lunch here and we were pretty happy with our meal. The soup of the day was a creamy asparagus soup. The flavor was mild and savory. We liked the bread that came with the soup. It was soft and sucked up the soup pretty well. My friend ordered the Pesto Chicken sandwich. She said it was tasty. She couldn't finish the whole thing because it was a big sandwich so she took the other half home. I, on the other hand, am a big piggy so I was able to inhale my delightful tri tip sandwich. I didn't mind that the beef was a little bland because the chimichurri sauce that was spread on the ciabatta bread made up for the flavor. Next time, I am going to ask for extra chimichurri sauce on my sandwich. For dessert, I ordered the Princess Cake. I saw the sign from The Little Baker so I am assuming that they bought this cake from them. This was one of the best cakes I have ever tasted. The icing and fruit filing in the middle had just the right amount of sweetness. Some people may balk at the idea of paying $2.75 for a small slice. Trust me, that cake is worth every penny. Customer service was excellent. The staff had the warmest and friendliest smiles. They even brought the food to your table. They made our food pretty quick which was very convenient since my friend had only about an hour for her lunch break. The restaurant looks really clean and they also have outdoor seating which is perfect on sunny days.

I recently had the chance to stop by Mundo's again. It was close to their lunch time rush and they were dialed in and on top of their game. I ordered and my food came out quickly...bravo! (I've had a few messages back and forth with one of the owners about their service and he was completely in agreement with my criticisms and promised they were working on improving and desired continued feedback from their customers...and apparently he's as good as his word!) Now, to the important part...what I ate! I ordered their falafel sandwich, something I'd been looking forward to trying for quite some time as finding a good falafel sandwich in Monterey is a bit more challenging than you might imagine. So there I was looking at their version of a falafel sandwich...and I do say "their" version for a reason. Now, rather than nit-picking apart the differences between the average falafel sandwich and Mundo's...let me just say, the falafel at Mundo's has been elevated. Their actual falafel balls are as good as anywhere, the veggies they stuff inside are fresh and delicious, but the wrap they use is a bit different than a standard pita and their homemade Tahini has a unique and vibrant flavor. After cleaning up the last drops of sauce off my fingers...it was all I could do to not order another one. Once again, do not pass this place up!

Not sure what is going on but sometimes the bread is stale, i.e, probably yesterday's bread. The should always give fresh bread!! The meat on the tri-tip is on the skimpy side. It use to be a monster sandwich but not it's mostly bread. The owner asked my opinion about tri-tip since he wasn't making money. Should he (a) change the sandwich cut on the meat or (b) keep it the same and raise the price a dollar. Of course I said keep the product good and people will pay that extra dollar. Looks like he did both. Raise it and put less meat. They can't be doing too bad. They opened a second store.

This is a cute little cafe; nothing fancy... simple and clean! Their Argentinian tri tip is amazing... It's pretty big; you can actually split with someone... I'm new to the Monterey area and was instantly impressed by the quality of the food, service, and price.

Mundos has the best sandwiches in town! They are so savory and worth every penny you spend there. Everything is good there but my favorites are the Mundos brisket and the Milanese.

They removed the Argentinian Tri-tip from the menu. Hands down the best thing on the menu and they took it off. Don't people read what people have to say on Yelp?? In my mind they went from 5 stars to 3.

When trying to find a lunch spot in Monterey I used my trusty Yelp to find a place and they didn't lead us wrong. Mundo's Cafe is a tiny spot but the meal was delicious. I ordered the Mundo's tri-tip sandwich and it was huge but the bread was really tasty and the meat was excellent. Great spot and if you can, pay with cash here.

They were out of chimichurri sauce, so I got the Crispy Chicken Milanese and my partner got the Falafel sandwich. Both were good, but not amazing. They were pretty disorganized and had poor service, which docked them a star. Would go back if I was in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way.

This place is awesome! They have the best sandwiches and burgers. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are quite large. It has a very authentic feel. My favorites are the chorizo and roast beef. Definitely give this place a try!
