Diabetics at Applebee's

Diabetics must resist their temptations when dining at Applebee's. Most of the items on Applebee's menu is either stuffed with sodium or sugar. You must be extra careful and pick low-sugar and low-sodium diet at Applebee's if you are diabetic.

High Blood Pressure at Applebee's

Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Blood Pressure

Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. Skip all the chicken dishes and seafood at Applebee's except Grilled Chicken Breast and Baked Haddock without sides respectively. You must also skip Brunch Burger, Quesadilla Burger, Triple Bacon Burger, and Whiskey Bacon Burger at Applebee's. High sodium intake can be lethal for a high blood pressure candidate. Avoid ordering foods that contain over 1000mg sodium at Applebee's, especially if you're dining alone.

High Cholesterol at Applebee's

Well, steaks and ribs go hand in hand with cholesterol. Being their signature dish, it will be a challenge to find low-calorie, healthy food for those concerned with their cholesterol levels. However, you can always opt for their salads and other light foods to keep the cholesterol in check.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Cholesterol

If you have high cholesterol, then you must avoid eating sandwiches, wraps, and tacos at Applebee's. While the salads and soups sound healthy, you must skip the Fiesta Chopped Salad and Loaded Potato Soup at Applebee's. It is also advised to dodge the Three Cheese Chicken Penne and Chicken Fajita Rollup. Any main meal with over 100mg cholesterol is not idle for someone with high cholesterol. So, skip those items at Applebee's.

Common, guys! What's with all the 1 stars?? This is NOT supposed to be fine dining...it's Applebee's. I've been to this location a few times, it's not bad. Food is average. I do have a compaint - long island ice tea. Waaay too sweet. Not enough alcohol. Enough said. FOOD - the boneless wings are good. Aptichoke dip - great and a big portion. I do like their 2 for $20 deal - includes an appetizer and 2 entrees for only $20. Again, portion size is good. They also have the "healthy" options, which I did not get a chance to try yet. Maybe next time. Our server Justin was very nice and checked up on us often. Also, I'd like to add that this place really is a "family" place - they were extremely nice and talkative/interactive with kids. I was impressed! When I'm in the mood for something simple, I'll come back here. Will definitely skip the long island.

I was surprised when I looked at the Yelp reviews after we were seated in the restaurant. Maybe they have worked on their hospitality issues because we had zero problems. We were greeted with a smile and seated immediately by the hostess who explained the new menus. The waiter Corey came over promptly and took our drink orders. When he returned, we ordered. I had the Thai Shrimp Salad and my friend had one of the burgers with onion rings. Both dishes arrived within 5-10 minutes. The salad was excellent with spicy Thai peanut sauce and about 10 small grilled shrimp which were cooked perfectly. My friend said the burger was excellent as well. We both finished absolutely everything on both of our plates. Very little washing will be needed for them as they were already clean! Corey was great and received a nice tip for his attention to us. If I am in the area again, I'll be back.

We had the best dinner tonight. My wife ordered the Napa Chicken. It came out of the oven perfectly. The server Mark was wonderful. I had the bourbon steak with onions & potatoes. It was a good value for a 7 oz. steak. We love Applebee's. When ordering wine, the best deal is the 9 oz. glass.

Really bad service in this particular place I've been to other ones and they are way better. The food taste the same great food bad customer service.

Their customer service was not that good. Me and my husband hardly go to an american resturant to eat most of the time its Asian food so we decided to try something other than Asian food . The waitress was nice but after we order our meals they didn't bring us forks, knifes, spoons or napkins so when are meals came out I was thinking to myself how I'm I going to eat my meal with my fingers!?? We had to ask for it. The whole time we were there the waitress checked up on us once so when we needed omething we had to search for one of the other waitress. But their food was delicious. I have to think about it, if I'm going to be coming to this location again.

Several years ago, my youngest brother was a major in an Applebee's commercial; consequently, on our cross-country roadtrip that summer, those small-town and highway junction Applebeeses were rather conspicuous. When you've been driving for three hours across northern Utah with a wife, two young kids, and a dog for each of them, that insipid neon red sign was a welcome thing: cheap eats, appropriately hot and greasy vacation food, and hey... It didn't require you to lower your standards by eating at the equally prevalent Arby's restaurants sprinkled liberally across this great land. Like my brother's commercial--featuring him as a small-town football hero-- Applebee's plays well in the sticks... When your alternative dinner options are basically fast food restaurants somewhere between Toledo and Terre Haute, you take refuge sitting in an actual chair that isn't on a central swivel and permanently affixed to the tile floor like at Wendy's or McDonalds. There's a corny charm to a restaurant built around a central island bar, with crazy crap on the walls and several flat screens showing sports that you watch because they're on TV... Not because they're your team (or even your sport.) But in Arcadia/Monrovia, this is camp at best. Don't get me wrong, it's the same Applebee's... There's a display of a carousel horse, a surfboard, a tribute to local fire fighters, and several road signs indoors (in the words of Marge Simpson: "Whatever!") but in the midst of several other lackluster restaurants, it sort of just coexists, hidden in plain sight amidst the boring and the mundane. Still, there are some hidden gems here that I wish they would leverage. At 11:45 today, we were one of three tables. My bride and I both ordered soups and salads-- a cup of chicken tortilla soup, and a Shrimp Thai salad for her, the grilled chicken, avocado, and strawberry salad for me. Two year old daughter got a kids burger slider and fries. Our server was awesome-- extremely attentive and present. She refilled drinks, brought extra napkins, and was very sweet. The manager checked on our table twice, even asking "Is [the server] doing a nice job?" ... Seemed weird, but go with it. They were not bogged down with customers, but it was a nice touch. Both salads were quite tasty, low calorie, and a good sized portion! I'm a carnivore by nature, but I was satisfied with my soup and salad lunch (ok, and a few of my kid's fries...) there were a LOT of shrimp in the bride's dish, and I had a nice serving of chicken-- slightly over grilled, but it worked with the salad, and probably appealed to the company's lawyers with regard to cooking poultry. Even my daughter's burger was juicy and had a soft bun. Fries were kid-greasy, but they're fries, people, not blanched asparagus... At $40 (pre-tip) it's a little steep for a soup n salad lunch, but we had two fountain drinks, a kids meal, and soups on top of $10 designer salads... Considering the low number of customers ( and having met the bride when she was a server at Marie Callendars) we left her 30%. When you can make someone's day for three of four bucks, you always should. Applebee's should really push their healthy, low calorie, and tasty fare for the lunch set. Neighbors Chili's, Mimi's, Chipotle, Black Angus... They all have salads that are easily the same price and 1,000+ calories more then the nice meal we enjoyed today. Then again, the McDonalds down the block had a drive thru line pushed out into the street, so there's no accounting for people's desire to sacrifice health for convenience, cost, and coronary arterial schlerosis. Murica!

Poor service. We were given menus and nothing else . Waited 15 minutes and walked out. We expressed our complaint to the greeter, didn't even apologize. I guess we weren't white enough.

What can I say but HORRIBLE service this entire staff needs to be retrained immediately from bringing out the wrong order to the curly hair guy waiter who thinks its OK to throw down the appetizer on the table as if I am a dog and then waiting at the door for 2 minutes before even getting noticed to be seated. I mean does the manager of this place or the company its self read these yelp reviews or do they not even care ? The food was good but Applebee's needs a overhaul in the service and decor department ASAP!

My Husband, son and I went in for a late dinner on Wednesday June 15th. We stood at the entrance for 5 minutes before anyone even acknowledged that we were standing there. We were seated and served by Andrea. Her service alone was subpar. Never checked on us. And wasn't even the one to bring us our food. The food, was horrible!! Spent $50 and none of us ate our food. She never even acknowledged that fact. I will personally never patron at this location ever again. Management please do something about this. The food was unacceptable. The good: the strawberry lemonade was okay.

Hmmmm, well if you like you're food microwaved like and slow service then this is your spot. Last time I be coming here. We ordered for 3, all three were beyond disappointed.

Service was really bad our waitress Patricia was not friendly and didn't want to give us a double burger saying it's not on the menu and we can't order it.. I thought customers should get what they want especially if it's not a impossible order.. If you go there try and get another server .. Maybe she had a bad day but still be happy. I know I won't b back at this place

The brisket nachos I had were way too oily, and the brisket they put on there wouldn't even amount to a 1/2 of a sandwich. It was very sad looking with a lot of lettuce and very DRY, had to ask for salsa but that didn't help. Service was slow and there were not a lot of filled tables either.

    (1)
  • Anderson E.

Disappointing experience. The food was bland and very average. The service was bad and very slow. What makes it worse was that I went there when it was not even crowded. There were servers and other workers standing around and talking to each other, while there were paying customers who needed service. Everything took a long time: greeting, seating, taking of order, refilling water, bringing dessert, etc. I won't go back.

Food: average salty American food even though I ordered salad/ sandwich and no added salt. Service: below average... Nicole. I ordered food to go, went to pick up in 15, not only I had to get out of my car to get it, it's not ready after 15 min at lunch time. And the carside attendant gave me the stink eye because I didn't tip her. My whole lunch period wasted on waiting.

I suppose Applebee's doesn't care about its clientèle being satisfied - after my long review they haven't once contacted me apologizing for our experience in this location. I don't think I will be coming back! They advertise Free WI-FI but, when I try to login it informs me other wise.

We have always came to this applebees but the service the last few times have been horrible!! we have waited over 35 minutes for our food each time. The last time the manager had came around and asked how our service was going we told her we have been waiting way too long for our food. She didn't seem to care she just said "ok i will see whats going on" i think they changed owners and their ok service went to horrible service. We will not be back.

Not bad. I like their 2 for $20 or 2 for $24 deal, which means you get to pick an appetizer and two entrees. I've been here twice, once for dine-in and once for takeout. The dine-in experience was good. The server miscalculated on the change returned but that didn't really sour the experience. Food was good and environment was fairly relaxing. Plenty of 'healthy' options. The takeout experience was alright. I walked in and there was no host so I grabbed my own menu and flipped through it. Eventually someone came to help me. I made my order, waited maybe fifteen minutes, and was out the door with everything packaged nicely for me. Boneless wings were good. Spinach and artichoke dip was good.

  • Darlene Y.

I've been to a few Applebee's and their all about the same. It sucks that this location was rated so low, because the service was really good, and the food was what I expected it to be. What's unfortunate is that this location really doesn't get a lot of foot traffic, even at prime time for lunch. Nevertheless, my mom and I ordered the BACON WEDGE SALAD with blue cheese dressing, FRIED STRING BEANS with a wasabi sauce, and the SPINACH ARTICHOKE DIP. All of the dishes were relatively decent and our experience was enjoyable by the staff. If you are in the mood for Applebee's but not the wait, check out this location. ENJOY!

I am always at this local Applebee's and I must say this place never disappoints. I usually come during their half off appetizers and you cant beat this deal. The service has always been first class and I never run out of beer. If your on a budget or just want something casual this is the place. They also have very good NFL game day deals which are very competitive with local bars. This is no five star restaurant but you get what you pay for when you come here!

We came here because there was a long wait at chills and Applebee's was nearby. Now I wish we waited. Service was good. Our waitress Ginger was really nice. But food wasn't! We actually had to send back one of our entry's. Steak with shrimp was really nasty and had a bologna texture.

Came here with the boyfriend after walking around Monrovia. We made it to their 9pm drink and appetizzer specials. We got their Margaritas, which was $4. Where was the alcohol? We felt ripped off. Towards the end of the night, we only ordered one drink each and bounced. Service was okay since it was pretty dead...I would suggest going to the applebee in Alhambra or rosemead instead of this one. At least their drinks actually tastes like a drink drink, not just a freakin lemonade. Don't think I'll come back to this one again.

For the price, this place is really not bad at all. The customer service is usually good here, and I really love their hamburger quesadilla. Their happy hour drink prices are awesome too.

Poor customer service. Sunday Sept 21st @ 3:30. Our waiter was Patti. We were seated promptly. We gave our order of drinks and appetizer. Up to there, all was well. We put in our order of food and that took about 30 mins. We ordered another round of drinks but didn't get them until I had to remind our waiter. She kept passing our table. Asked everyone around us how everything was BUT NOT OUR TABLE. Not to mention that she brought us our food but we had no utensils. Way to go! When we reminder her of the drinks, she blamed the bartender. And it took her another 15 mins just to get us the check. Needless to say NO TIP for a $73 check. Only good from the trip was the food, on point.

I would consider us regulars. We love the food, price, and customer service. But tonight my hubby found a pubic hair in his food.. I've watched the movie Waiting and Never thought it would happen to us.. But it was a pubic hair and he spit up on his plate.. Just keep an eye out On what you're eating. Our waitress was awesome but kitchen staff come on!! I work in customer service too and would fire anyone who would be involved in such behavior Wish we would've take. A pic Of this nasty course hair..

I'm not even sure where to begin...I recently went to this location and was honestly so upset with the service! We went on a Friday night where happy hour began at 9. We were seated at 8:40 so we wanted to get some drinks and wait till happy hour to order our appetizers. Well our waitress, Ginger, started acting rude when we asked about happy hour and she wanted to clearly state our drinks were not part of happy hour. Once we ordered our drinks it took her about 15 minutes or so to bring them out. Once we got our drinks we decided to order a bunch of apps and our waitress wasn't talkative or polite. She grabbed one menu from one of us and as we collected the rest to give to her she just walked away! Like who does that? We were hungry and wanted to have a good night so we decided to just ignore what we just experienced in hopes the night would turn around. Well it didn't! We ended up waiting 40 minutes...40 MINUTES for appetizers! I get that they were busy but what I don't get is why when we started to eat our apps they were cold and our nachos were soggy which means she had them sitting up there and didn't bring them out when they were ready for who knows what reason while others who came after us were getting their main dishes before we did. We decided not to say anything because we were exhausted, hungry, and had no energy to deal with it. She continued to check on the other tables quite often compared to the one or two times she asked us if we were ok. We asked for side sauces and water and it was never brought out so I and to ask another girl there for it and she was unhappy as well! The whole night was honestly just a mess and it sucks because I come here often and I've never experienced this type of bad service. They really need to reevaluate there employees because as a manager myself I know customer service is the most important aspect of an establishment and sorry to say this location of Applebee's does not have it!

We only came here because we had a gift card. It was a Thursday night, brought the kids (kids' meals are $1.99) Service was so SLOW! Our server kept chatting with another table, but would apologize about the wait when he served our food. Would only come back if we had another gift card to use.

I wish I could give this place zero stars horrible service!!! 2 friends and I sat at a table at the bar, her boyfriend sat at the table while we went to the bathroom. We came out and sat for about 8 min in addition to the 10 he had already waited before they came to take our DRINK order. We wait another 10 min all while a waitress ( most likely ours) looks at us 5 or 6 times minimum. She come over and took the order of the people next to is who had just sat down. WTF!!! We just left our drinks and walked. Never again horrible service!! Too bad for her I just got my bonus and was going to spread the love!

First of all our server Kathy was great. The food was very good tonight. Chicken fried chicken for me and the salmon for my wife. A Newcastle and red apple sangria plus the Dodgers made front enjoyable time. Did I mention that Kathy our server was very cool and very attentive?

This was a great trip to Applebees. The service was quick and friendly and the food was delicious as it always is. The only downside really was finding parking. =\ If you're in Monrovia and are looking for a good place to grub, this is a good one.

Grew up going to this place. Food was... moving on. Slaw dogs was closed so I ordered food to go from here. I don't go to chilijs but their portions are epically little. I guess this Applebee's decided to compete in that department. So I picked up a salad for a friend ( yes she's a friend I swear) and some boneless wings for me. She said she was craving a BIG salad. And I ordered the large size chinese salad. That salad was anything but large. I ordered some boneless wings. It was ok, but then again I'm picky with chicken. Which is one of the reasons why I like beef more. My dish was ok taste wise, sucked portion wise. And they forgot the bread that was supposed to be with the salad. She ate most of it but didn't exactly rave about it. Which means it was ok. But the price for product wise, I wouldn't say it's worth it. But the service was pretty good. This is how I gauge service. I walk into the establishment wearing workout gear w/ doorag. ( I'm 6ft, big, athletic build, dark & mixed. Also It's comfy, I go to the gym alot and dress shirts get mondane). If you can give me good service without being snide, certain looks, ignore me or just scared shitless then your golden. I could see he was like (wtf) at first then snapped out of it (On the phone etc I tend to come off as a proper white guy... Hey, it works). I tipped him $6 dollars on a $20 to go order.

Ok service and ok food which is to be expected... I am a vaper and used my setup sparingly while sitting in the bar for almost 2 hours watching a football game late on a Sunday after the typical California family was seated within 50 feet of me I was asked to not vape because they don't allow them... "We have signs posted" I was told. After looking for the signs I found none. Not the fault of the establishment that someone complained but it was bad handling of the situation...

i like apple-bees but why do they run that threatening commercial telling people "no i mean it dont be last" a little scary for a restaurant. i feel like if i go there i will be beaten up ??? why so intimidating ?

  • Mirah E.

I am writing this review based on the bar service, not the food. My friends and I come here a few times a month for the late night happy hour prices at the bar. There is a different deal every night ($3 beers on Monday, $4 corona-Rita's on tuesday Etc...). We are usually there when Danny is the bar tender and he is fantastic! Makes great drinks, doesn't screw you over by not putting enough alcohol in. TVs are all over the bar area and there has even been karaoke a few of the nights we've been which is always fun. If you're looking for a refreshing drink and fun atmosphere this is the place to go.

I really hate this location. The Applebee's in my home town of Santa Maria, CA is like, the place to be! But this one is just awful. I've been there a few times, but the last one I got MASSIVE FOOD POISONING! I had the shrimp on New Year's Eve around 2pm. By 10pm, I was in my friends house at a party, barfing and having diareahh so badly. I thought I was going to pass out. Totally ruined my New Years. I called and nothing was done about it. Boo.

You know, Applebee's has a reputation for kinda crappy food. Well I don't really care. The 2 for $20 deal is a great value and you can't expect four-star cuisine. My friends and I come here late nights because they're one of the only places open and it's just fine. Reasonably priced greasy food and I've never had a problem with service. Last week a group of probably 50-60 of us came in after midnight and the staff responded spectacularly. Kudos.

Myeh. The food was tolerable. We had a French waitress and she took FOREVER. The wait was especially long for our bill. Literally thirty minutes after we asked for it. We had my little cousin with us, and the wait was so long that I had to take him outside to play. We ran out of things to do! The food is decent. It's definitely somewhere to get food to-go when you've grown tired of everything else in the area. And even then, I wouldn't put it at the top of my list.

I came here the other night trying to relive high school memories of the frequent times I would come here for Happy Hour. I realized that either I had horrible taste in food back then or Applebee's quality in food has really gone downhill. We ordered the chicken quesadillas, chicken won tons, and chicken wings w/ honey sauce. All of the food came out lukewarm, not piping hot. The chicken quesadillas tasted like they had just been defrosted. The chicken won tons were probably the best thing there, but they still didn't taste that great. The chicken wings also tasted like they had just been defrosted. Each order was around $4, so the bill only came out to $12, which is really cheap considering it is enough food to make two people full. Honestly, I would have rather spent the $12 elsewhere. The interior of Applebee's still looks the same aside from some changed photos on the wall, but it is very comfortable being there. I just wish their food was better.

Got seated with my fam..took a lil while to get our order but whatever....was excited to get our spinach artichoke dip n when it came the runner dropped a chip and put it back onto our plate...wtf! Then I asked the server for a1 sauce for my steak..he never came back so ended up had to get the a1 myself at the bar...getting angry at this point I left the a1 at the edge of the table so that fu*#er could see it then he avoided us the rest of the time we were there not even refilling our soda or giving us the bill so we could leave..the manager gave us $4 off the bill..but I am NEVER coming here again... to that server who I am not gonna mention...u should find another job where u dont have to interact with customers..like cleaning toilets..

If you don't know this by now, applebees is just terrible. the only thing that's good here is the happy hour. But beware of their margaritas - horrible. They're too sweet, and I doubt they put a drop of tequila in it. So when I say they're happy hour is okay, im talking about the beer. Can't go wrong with beer on tap, i guess. they went wrong everywhere else, at least they got that one thing right. in short, don't go here unless you have gift cards.. unless it's free.

Generally speaking, all of the Applebee's have fairly good food. And it's reasonably priced as well. But don't get a steak at this location - they over cooked ours and this was the second time we've been here. All of the other dishes were done correctly and were tasty. But what will keep us from coming back was the terrible service. It took our waiter nearly 20 minutes to come to our table - he was busy talking to his co-workers and the bartender - and we had to repeatedly had to ask him for place settings, water and what an attitude !!! Rude, brash and unprofessional. Where do they get such amateurs? You might want to avoid this location all together. Very disappointed and we will never be back at this location ... You might try the San Dimas location. It's managers are more attentive - the manager on duty at this Monrovia location didn't even apologize for our horrible experience and she made excuses for the terrible service we received from our waiter. They obviously don't need more business. And the restaurant wasn't even busy and had perhaps 15 people there and a good number of them were at the bar. Poorly run and arrogant and unprofessional managers. We spoke to a Kathy who identified herself as the head manager ... she had an ego the size of Montana.. Very flippant and condescending. A truly awful experience. BOYCOTT this location. Our suggestion is that you try The Claim Jumper, Black Angus or BJ's - which are virtually within walking distance from this Applebee's. Spread the word about Applebee's in Monrovia. STAY AWAY !!!

I usually don't like leaving bad reviews but boy oh boy. We hit this place up about a week ago. We got there around 8pm. I waited in the car while my wife went in to check the wait time, surprise no wait at all (now I know why). We were seated immediately which was good. But then we just sat, it took at least 15 minutes before we were even acknowledged by the server. When she finally came back to get our order we quickly put in our kids orders (a corndog meal and a chicken strips meal) and our drinks/orders. Twenty minutes later the server brings our drinks. It's already been about 35 minutes since we walked in and we're barely getting our drinks. Five minutes later, the server excuses herself on break. We still have no food. At this point we've been here about 40 minutes and my kids are crying with hunger. We call over a different server and ask how much longer, he's really nice and says he'll check for us. He never comes back. We get sick of waiting so we get up and leave. We go to the hostess station to try to pay for our drinks, nobody comes over. At this point we say eff it, walk out and drive up the street to Tops burgers. Needless to say my kids got their corndog and chicken strips.

I came here for a 2 for $20 deal and got the worst service. Maybe these young girls hate their job. 1. Service is not friendly ** Waitress didn't greet just threw up menus and left. 2. Food *** = Food was moderately good but some of it was undercooked 3. Hostess * = There was no one in there when we came in. 4. Likeliness of return=Steak cooked just right can't say the same for everything else.

Just had one of the worst service at any restaurant ever! Where do I begin....to start the place was less than 1/4 full which should have been a warning. You would think the waiters would live at out table and check on us since it was empty...not the case. Had to get up to get out own condiments, silver ware and drink refills from the bar.

  • Mariana G.

I dont know why they get such a bad review. It's Applebees people, not the Ritz Carlton. What do you expect? They have very friendly staff, great service, lots of alcoholic beverages if you are into that. The food is perfect for the price....everyone need to stop being so picky.

This is like old people food. Coincidentally, I came here for lunch with and elderly person (their choice). The service was super slow, but the waitress was nice. For the food you get, the price is inflated (hey, don't you know old people are on fixed incomes!! hahahaha). The food is bland and lacks finesse. They have your typical soup, salad, sandwich, burger and a poor attempt as some fusion dishes. It's a generic place to go. If you are not looking for anything special or anything in particular, then definitely come here and you'll be satisfied.

I love applebees. I have been coming here for years with my family and friends. I've always enjoyed the food even though the buffalo wings (my favorite) have changed a little. Missing a star because service isn't the best sometimes. Other than that Yummy!

    (4)
  • Melanie Z.

I took my order to go. I got the 2 for $20 deal. Appetizer = boneless buffalo wings (more like chicken nuggets w/buffalo sauce), the Cajun Shrimp Pasta & the House Sirloin Steak. The steak was the best in the whole meal. The pasta wasn't great & neither were the boneless buffalo wings. If I came back here, I'd order the steak again, but I wouldn't be sure what else to get... Other than the food, they have happy hour drink deals I wouldn't mind coming back to try. Drinks like margaritas, long island iced tea, etc. are between $3-5.

I always come here for the 2 for $20 deal. The riblets basket with Southern BBQ sauce never fails to fill me. Plus, you can upgrade to a riblet plate for only $3 more. I usually order the Spinach and Artichoke dip because the portion is big enough to feed 3 people, each having a relatively large portion each. The chips and dip always come out hot, so I enthusiastically recommend this finger food if you are looking for a cheap appetizer. The only downside is that the service is extremely slow. It seems as though this Applebee's is understaffed; the waiters and waitresses are always running around, but the tables are almost always half empty. I have never had problems with the waiters, and the restaurant manager always comes to greet the patrons with a friendly, personable smile and asks how the food tastes. Of course, if she didn't do this, then restaurant policy would require Applebee's to give us the dinner for free, their treat!! I've only tried their desserts once. The ice cream shooters are expensive, so I usually leave after the main course. After all, the 2 for $20 is the best bang for your buck; other than that, the food is rather pricey. I would rather go to McDiner's across the street and order several ice cream cones rather than eat a 3 ounce vanilla scoop that is priced at $3.50. No thank you! Tip: Come here during happy hour at 3-7 pm Monday through Friday to get half-priced appetizers!!

It's been about 2 years since I've eaten at this restaurant chain. The last time I ate at this restaurant, I remember it being pretty decent. This was the restaurant on Rosemead and Las Tunas. However, this location in Monrovia just didn't cut it. It seems as if the quality of the food has considerably lowered. In relation to some other reviewers, I found my burger extremely salty. My French fries tasted standard, nothing memorable. The white peach sangria I ordered was decent. However, with all that ice, I thought it was a bit over-priced. I do agree with another reviewer who stated that the decor is definitely out-dated, from the 90's, as well as the music! It took about 5 minutes to have water brought to us. Our waitress was nice, just slow. Quality of service definitely seemed standard and "by the books." On a positive note, most of everything we ordered came out hot and cooked thoroughly. But I felt that the mozzarella sticks we had as an appetizer could have been a bit hotter for the cheese to be melted a bit more. I didn't find the noise level or ambiance a problem- probably because I worked at Dave and Buster's for two years. Overall, this location definitely needs some re-decorating, updated music, enthusiastic staff, and higher quality food. I do not see myself visiting this location in the future.

Thanks for the good service. Here's a star, you're just missing the other four. When I pay $XX dollar for steak I want something juicy and tender, it doesn't have to be butter knife tender but I'm not exactly paying you $50 for steak. When I pay $XX for steak with mashed potatoes, I expect something delicious, maybe not the greatest but not meh. Oh and flavor, I believe there exists other seasonings than only 'salt'. So no, I hate you.

I used to come here once In a while, not because the food was good, but because it was open a little later than lots of sit down restaurants in the area. The service was inconsistent. Sometimes you'd get a good server, sometimes the food would take forever, sometimes they'd start off great then disappear by the time you're trying to pay the check so you can go home! Anyhow, one night we got this one server who was the rudest employee we'd ever encountered there. She barely said hello, avoided eye-contact, didn't attempt to be at all polite, was nearly sliding our drinks and food to us and could not be bothered for anything else. We had no idea what her problem was, but she didn't earn the $1 tip we left her. Thanks to her we've never been back and have found other places to have our late dinners at. For Applebees sake, hopefully she no longer works there.

Used to go here in high school for happy hour, but the prices changed and didn't reflect an improvement in the food. I think BJ's happy hour is way better. The best appetizer was the nachos nuevos. I think I have only gotten entree's here twice. Riblets were gross and burger was pretty ordinary. You won't be eating good in this hood... The last time I went the service was so bad it took 1 hour to get our food and it came out cold. The manager didn't come to apologize or anything so we didn't leave any tip. It wasn't even busy. Another time I went on my bday and one of my friends gave me a gift card in a small envelope. I forgot it there and went the next morning. The waitress that was working our table had no idea what I was talking about. I called up my friend who had bought me the GC to cancel it, but it was used about 1 hour after I went to check the applebee's. Yes it's my fault for leaving it there, but I'm pretty sure the waitress used the GC. Shady.

I was so disappointed in the food at this place. I ordered a French Dip sandwich and it was the worse sandwich I've ever had. It was tasteless and super greasy! Do not order that sandwich! The only part of that dish that was ok to eat were the fries. My boyfriend got the classic clubhouse sandwich, he said it was ok. How can you go wrong with a club sandwich, but then again my boyfriend is not picky and will eat anything. We ordered an appetizer sampler and that was actually ok. It had mozzarella sticks, bacon quesadillas, boneless buffalo wings, and spinach artichoke dip. I gave this place 2 stars because the service was good, our waitress was nice and came to ask how everything was going and to refill our drinks twice. Even the hostess guy was really nice and accommodating by sitting us in front of the tv when he asked if we wanted to watch the Laker game and said yes. We came here because we had gift card and I don't think I want to come back, unless I have another gift card!

this place can definitely boast one thing, and thats consistency. you see, had i known about how consistent they were before i decided to check them out, i probably wouldve just stayed home. was on our way home from the mall and stopped into applebees to grab a quick bite - big mistake. i shoulda reviewed this place before making such a poor decision. had i yelped them, i wouldve realized that the majority of reviews were based on how consistently bad their food and service was. i shoulda just ate at woodranch grill but the line was too long. shoulda waited. we had ribs for dinner and that thing mustve been over marinated in salt. the service was slow and unattentive. maybe its just this applebees, cause the one in west co seems perfect compared to this place. my advice is to keep it moving my friend and thank me later.

The only thing I liked at Applebee's was their chicken and dumplings soup. It was incredible. I liked it so much because it reminds me of my grandpa's. I was upset to find out that they don't make the soup anymore. It was like losing my grandpa twice. Please bring it back

We're officially done with Applebee's Monrovia. We used to visit at least once a week for lunch because we liked the Under 550 calorie meals, but the prices went up and the food went downhill. I got tired of having to send my meals back because they were so terrible. Today we thought we'd give it another shot after a 6 month hiatus. My steak was served so rare that I couldn't chew it. My sister's had a large tendon running through it that made hers unappealing. I decided to send my meal back to have the steak cooked a bit more and it took me 10 minutes to locate our server. Finally, she took my plate and I proceeded to wait for another 15 minutes with nothing to eat. When she brought me the newly cooked steak, it was already time for me to leave to get back to work. The manager came and told me she took the meal off my bill and that angered my sister that she had to pay for her crappy meal and I didn't. I tried to explain my displeasure to the manager, but she was was gone before I could open my mouth to speak. So there I sat... I didn't get to eat my lunch and I had to put up with my irate lunch guest barking at me (who didn't even get her meal packaged up like I did). It was upsetting and embarrassing, it ruined my day and I will NEVER go back to Applebee's again.

This Applebee's has become my fiance and my go-to spot for a drink since we live right around the corner. The bartenders are great (Dan especially is very cool), the beer is good (as beer usually is), and whenever we order something to eat they're pretty prompt in bringing out the food, even when the place is busy. I have no idea what the service is like in the non-bar areas of the restaurant, because we don't venture out into those parts.

Service: Don't have much to say, but it always varies depending on where you go and when you go. I had a good experience here one time and the other times sucked. I worked at Applebee's (not this one) for a while and tried almost everything on the menu. So, I'll just talk about food: Recommend: Sampler Platter Hot wings. Artichoke Spinach Dip + Tortilla chips Quesadilla (note: it has bacon in it, for those of you who don't read the fine print) Bourbon Street Steak/Ribeye Riblets Cowboy Burger Grilled Shrimp and Spinach Salad Zesty Chicken Ranch Sandwich Dessert: Triple Chocolate Meltdown. Maple Butter Blondie (for those who don't like chocolate) Don't recommend: Any pasta or rice dish - NOT how Italian or "Oriental" food really tastes Ultimately, it was bland and there was a lot of it. So if you like a lot of bland food, go ahead. And the pasta is always too soft, I think... Dessert Shooters - not worth your two bucks unless you like pudding and a crushed piece of whatever the name of the dessert is. Look out for Happy hour specials; depending on where you go, sometimes they have $1 domestic drafts and $3 Brewtuses. Note: Applebee's does the Weight Watchers program, but just FYI, most of this food is disgustingly fat/high in calories and horrible for you. I love it, but if you don't, I wouldn't count on WW to save you here...

The New York Steak is surprisingly excellent I had never ordered a steak here, but I was impressed with their new New York offering. It was cooked perfectly. They also serve big, cold beers perfect with a steak or burger. The service can be spotty at times and the place can get a little disorganized. Head over to BJ's for desert.

  • Lisa L.

Like a song from the 60's, Applebee's is a throwback to simpler times: comfortable, nonthreatening food, served in a safe surrounding. Nothing experimental here: but what there is, delivers what's promised. One nod to current times: nutrition information, with calorie counts that will be eye-opening. BTW: why do they feel they have to offer 300 combinations that serve mostly to slow down the decision process. Anyway, clean, safe, predictable. Exciting? Only if you're with a fun group. Service was by-the-books.

Just like any other Applebees. Nothing special but Happy Hour is always good! The twisted potatoes chips are so good. And the sampler....oh and did I also mention HAPPY HOUR? It's awesome!

Came here last night for dinner. I think the staff are not very well trained to be attentive to their customers. Typically, you are supposed to be greeted by a host right when you walk in the doors. But when we got there, the podium was empty and the workers were talking amongst themselves off to the side. Hello??? Anyone there?? At one point while while we were there, a gentleman walked in the door and wasn't paid attention to...he had to call out loudly "Do I have to speak to the manager to get some service around here?" to get a host/server to tend to him. The food was just plain salty, not much flavor.

This location in Monrovia is horrible!!! The restaurant was half full and yet we waited almost an hour for our food to be delivered, I kid you not, Im so not exagerating, trust me! We were a party of 9 and we ordered 2 appetizers. After waiting for 45 minutes, I went to the manager and she didnt even apologize. They finally brought out the appetizers and 15 minutes later the food so all of our food got bunched together with the appetizers. The manager knowing what had happened should have come to us and apologized but never did. The foold was luke warm and portions were small. The waitress was horrible, always had to ask for refills. The table next to us called the manager as well so Im assuming it was to complaint since I didnt see anyone smiling while talking to her. I suggest you skip this place.

I don't even know how this place stays open. I don't know how they can put the garbage they put on the 2 for $ 20 menu and call it edible. The spinach artichoke dip is just plain foul. Greasy and lacking of flavor is one way to describe it. The 3 cheese chicken penne is guilty of the same. I don't know if they put feta or goat cheese or mold in this dish, but it was absolutely disgusting and I could not eat either of these 2 items. So, what is the point of ordering off a menu that is cheaper, but the food is too nasty to eat ? And even though I had full plates on my table, I was not asked if I everything was ok or if there was something else , I would like to order. I also had to wait forever for water, appetizers , entrees, and the bill. What the hell was I thinking ordering any of the those items at this restaurant? I love how almost everything on the $ 20 menu is chicken, too. Fried, grilled, broiled, etc. Oh , and even though, kids are supposed to eat there for $ 1.99 ( not including drink and with a paying adult) , they still charged me full price. So, I mentioned it to one of the waitresses and had to wait another 20 min, for them to correct the bill. This place had a different manager before and it was much better run , so instead of just crappy food, you will now be getting crappy food and crappy service. Amen !!

This place is slowly rotting away. The service is slow, the food is blah and the prices don't reflect either. They know this, too, as the last couple times I've gone the manager gives us a coupon to use on our 'next' visit.

OK, i have tried different locations and i still do not know why people like this restaurant. the food is awful no taste, I would cook something more edible and I'm not a cook. I will never go again or even try another location maybe it's just my bad luck but yuck...

I ate here one time for my daughter's birthday and will never eat at an Applebee's again! They lost my business for life! We waited and waited only to be seated at a dirty table-are you kidding?! I didn't like it. I had the coconut shrimp and they were pea sized and burnt. I ordered a burger, just a burger and the bun was dry and the rest was lackluster. I am mortified to find that Tyler Florence has thrown his lot in with this chain. SHAME!!!

Does anybody go to a restaurant and order an Oreo cookie shake to go? YES!!! At least I do. I don't mind walking up to the bar, showing my ID showing that I'm over 21, having the bartender place a bar napkin in front of me and asking him for an Oreo cookie shake. I'm not going to talk about the food here because there is nothing to talk about, but ooooooh... Their Oreo cookie shake is oodles of creamy goodness. It is the best I have ever tried. It's the perfect consistency too. None of that thick sludge you try to slurp up at Jack in the Box only to have sucked up your cheeks instead.

About Applebee's

Applebee is an American full-service restaurant brand popularly known for its signature Riblets. Applebee was conceptualized in 1980 by Bill and TJ Palmer in Atlanta, Georgia. At first, the restaurant was named T.J. Applebee's RX for Edibles and Elixirs. After the concept was acquired by W.R. Grace and Company, the restaurant was renamed as Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.

Later in 2007, IHOP Corp. now known as DineEquity, Inc. acquired Applebee's and began their journey together to make Applebee's the world's largest full-service restaurant chain. Today, Applebee's serves at more than 1,830 locations worldwide. The Applebee's menu ranges from Appetizers and Salads to heavy meals consisting of ribs and steak. Although the trademark dish Riblets is a hot favorite among regular Applebee's dwellers, the restaurant also serves some amazing burgers, sandwiches, pasta, and salads.
