I actually like this location, the staff is way more attentive than other locations *cough-cough*, I always order my Fresh Shrimp Spring Rolls (Goi Cuon) the peanut sauce is the best. The (Kho To Dat Bie #52) is a fabulous Clay Pot, with mixed pork, chicken and all the fixings, chicken, beef & GARLIC. So good over rice.
This is a perfect spot for cheat eats especially if you get off the flight at SFO near rush hour and don't want to go through SF city traffic. I really enjoyed my Grilled pork chop over rice special dish here. It has so much food I can't finish all at once. Their Stir Fry Beef over rice is also delicious. The service is also fast so you don't need to wait forever to get your food. There are tons of customers when we were here and I can see why!
This is actually a 2.5 star review. Slightly better than "meh," but not as good as "A-OK." But I won't ding them for the difference. Out on a drive in my new car last Saturday after the gym so I was hankering for some tasty protein. I thought a nice big steaming bowl of pho ga would be perfect. I've only recently discovered the joy that is Vietnamese cuisine and can't get enough pho. I love a good bbq chicken sandwich but pho is much more satisfying to me. Checked Yelp for recommendations as I was tooling along in the upper peninsula and decided to try Ben Tre's joint due to the positive reviews. I was very hopeful. Showed up and found a seat at the bar easily enough. The staff was friendly and they seemed reasonably sincere about it. Attitude isn't usually a big deal for me; I am more interested the level of service, the quality of the food, and the cleanliness of the place. Anyway, I ordered a large bowl of pho ga and tea to drink. No appetizers, nothing special. I was just me, after all. Don't get me wrong: the pho ga was serviceable. It came in a huge bowl and there was a ton of the sliced chicken in it, along with a good serving of rice noodles, which I prefer over the thicker, heavier (and messier for an old white dude using chopsticks) egg noodles. I expected the chicken to have a simple, natural flavor, which it did. But the broth was rather unexceptional. It was good, but it didn't wow me (I'd had a bowl of pho ga at the Mint Leaf near the Berkeley Bowl the weekend prior that absolutely hit all the right spots and left me totally satisfied). The tea came pre-steeped in a water glass with a napkin around it, rather than in a steeping pot and tea cup. Whatever. But it was neither terribly hot nor especially strong. All in all, it was an "ok" experience. I totally would not make a special trip here and, since I work in San Bruno, I'll stick with the Vietnamese restaurant in the Bayhill Shopping Center on San Bruno and Cherry until I find a better place.
