Super Small Place... Super good Food I never frequent this area. I my starving kids in tow, and my pooch which I never take on outings. We sat outside which was so helpful for the kids, and dog. What I ordered: Classic Gyro Plate... Beef Lamb combo meat, rice, salad Way too much food for me, but i wanted to try a bunch of things, and I just took the rest to go. The place was super busy, and was a two man show. They offered up some hummus since I hate tzatziki sauce. Loved that. It was weird that we paid after though. Aren't you worried about dine and dash people?? I'd go out of my way to come back. Support your local business!

My fiancé n I decided to try this place out since it was affordable and it had good reviews. Since Daphne's Greek Cafe closed, we didn't know of any other Greek restaurant around.. It looks like two gentlemen run the place. It's pretty small, but the food is awesome. Fiancé got the STEAK MIXED GRILLED PLATE and I got the GARLIC FETA FRIES. we decided to mix the two together and it was nothing short of amazing. Lol. The two gentlemen were very accommodating and made sure we enjoyed our meals. I'll be bringing the rest of my family here next time. :) Prices are decent considering the quality of the food you're getting. I encourage everyone to try this place!

I love lamb. Dont think of consequences. I love lamb. I ordered the Lamb Skewer's with rice and salad. It sounded good and from the yelp photos it seemed a great choice. I then ordered it and it smelled amazing!!! Did I mention that I'm a lover of lamb?! While it was cooking it smelled amazing. And then I got it in a to go box and it was fantastically delicious! The rice alone was one of the best things I've ever had in my mouth to date. However, the salad was bland and the dressing was way too sour. What ever they did to the lamb they had it nailed and it was so goooooood!

Better than some of the food I had in Greece!. The dolmathes tasted like sunkissed lemons with the grape leaves tender and not over cooked. The rice was perfect grains of flavor. My husband had the classic gyros with lamb. He said his lamb was tender and delicious and HUGE! 5 yummy from us both.

It is not often that I have Greek food, so I would not say that I am really one to rate it with strong conviction or a refined taste. I got the mega gyro and thought that it was really tasty. It is very large and filling. Also got the side of pita and hummus which was tasty as well, but could have used more pita for $3.50. The owners are very friendly and aim to please. It is not cheap, but it is tasty. What did I learn today? Just a bit of a heads up, you have to eat it hunch-style so that the grease does not get on your clothes or down your arms.

It's just delicious...the mega gyro my fav Anyone we take there becomes a fan!

Best place for a classic Gyro. I've tried them all over Bay Area but this place is the best. Do NOT miss out on this delicious food. The customer service is also very good.

This place is really good!! The reviews don't lie!! Best Gyro I ever had and came ad a combo with a nice salad and fresh fries!! Small inside but has outside seating as well. Nice hidden gem :) will be back!

  • Malissa D.

Delicious! I've been wanting to try this place for a while and I'm so glad I did. The hummus and pita was very tasty. I had the green salad with grilled chicken. I would totally order it again but there are so many other things I need to try. I'm up for the mixed grill next time.

This place is awesome! Had the gyro plate & was lucky enough to be there when the baklava was still hot! Please TAKE MY MONEY!!!

Corner space, nice and TINY with outdoor seating med. You order and don't pay, the food is free!! Jk, you pay at the end, and I don't know why. Promote sales, maybe? Anyhow, the customer service was great, the falafels were delicious and the feta fries (I only ate the untouched ones, ofc) were so good. Why three stars then? At the end, the cook asked me what I thought of the falafel. I told him they tasted so unlike any other falafel I ever had that I needed to know what spice they used - turmeric? ginger? He disappointingly answered me by saying they don't make them; they purchase and just add water! Maybe he said that to keep the secret, but I doubt it. I'm so picky when it comes to med food already, that I don't see myself returning. I also felt kind of sick the rest of the day.

Omgah Yanni's. So good, so fresh, much better than Daphne's; everything is delicious. We come here a lot and they're super nice and flexible and overall awesome and of course, independent! The cooks are absolutely hilarious: one time I paid for our dinner and one of them told my boyfriend "man, your girl buys you Yanni's, you know she's the one"-that's how wonderful Yanni's is. This is an awesome spot to grab some quick greek food or to take out. Always Yanni's, never anywhere else.

    (5)
  • Nathan M.

This place has fair prices and huge portions. More authentic than the place that replaced Daphne's. The owner is friendly and has a level costumer service that you don't see anywhere. This will be my regular Greek spot. If you're in the east bay go to Yanni's.

  • Kim T.

Went to order an gyro and was rudely cut off because the store owner said he already took my order- he had assumed I was with the other Asian lady who had ordered. Totally racist. The store owner realized what he had done but didn't offer much of an apology, just a shrug. What a shame, too- the gyro was pretty delicious. I won't be back.

  • Daryl G.

Diego gave us awesome service. Jamie had the mega gyro, I had the mega steak, plus a basket of garlic feta fries. Delicious food, and an overall 5 star experience!

  • Ashley S.

Great costumer service and great food. After driving by this place for a year, I finally decided to stop in. I am so glad I did! I had the sample platter and it was excellent! They were very accommodating while I was waiting for my food. Will be visiting again soon!

Amazing food and customer service. I went there the first time yesterday and had to go back today!

  • Annette W.

From my first review there are now other cooks and it seems that the quality of food has really gone down. It's a shame I really used to like this place.

Opa! Yanni's is Yummies! Thank you to Living Social for offering a great deal on the fare here, and for putting Yanni's on my radar! BF and I came here for dinner around 6:00 on a Monday night, and though the location is quite small (maybe 4 tables inside), there was a steady flow of people for takeout orders and grabbing a table. The staff there are very friendly and jokey, bordering on flirtatious, but I'm an Italian girl so I know the drill. :) Armed with our $16 voucher, we both ordered the gyro plate, one with fries and one with their lemon rice. I also just had to try a side order of falafels, and we shared a soda, which brought the total to about $25. For tasty food and hearty portions, the price was right! The gyro pitas were JAM PACKED with the beef & lamb gyro meat, topped with tzatziki, crisp onion slices and bright red tomato, all wrapped up in a thick and warm pita. Epic sandwich happiness! The side greek salad was spicy and zippy, and their rice was flavorful and helped balance out the tanginess of the salad. The side order of falafels came with 5, fried to perfection and gorgeously seasoned. Teeny tiny small gripes: the gyro was kinda drowning in the tzatziki. The sauce is delicious, and did come in handy since I used the excess to dip the falafel, but it was a bit much. Next time I'll ask for the sauce on the side so I can enjoy the flavor of the meat more. The food is also served on styrofoam plates. With a place this small, it would be nice to see them invest in real plates and silverware, and save the plastic and styrofoam for takeout (if at all). I'm so glad Yanni's is on my culinary map, they will definitely be my go-to spot when I absolutely must Get to the Greek!

  • Tyler T.

Wow.... I have say Yanni's Greek Cafe has one of the best gyros I've had in a long time. The pitas are cooked on the griddle to order and the meat was very flavorful. The garlic feta fries could use a little more seasoning but over all, I would definitely recommend Yanni's for an authentic Greek gyro.

    (5)
  • Thalia W.

Very tasty food and great service. Kind of pricey, though. Classic gyro was $6.99 plus another $4 to make it a complete plate, which added rice pilaf (SO good!) and nice salad. I would recommend this!

Yanni's is one of many places, that I regret not trying when I worked just down the street. We came here last night for dinner. It's a very small place with three tables inside and a handful outside. Walking inside I was hit with an aroma that was a teaser for what was to come. The staff of two were very friendly. The guy taking our order even made a few jokes with us. As we were eating the same guy was making home made tzatziki right next to us. They have a menu above the counter as well as a paper menu. We both went for the gyro plate. Lamb and roasted beef, inside pita bread with onions, tomatoes and tzatziki. Very simple ingredients, but when cooked well and with love it's amazing. The pita was layered perfectly too, so with every bite you get a little bit of everything. Perfection. Each plate comes with a salad with tomato, pepperoncinis and olives and your choice of rice or french fries. I went with the fries since Terri had the rice. The fries were good, and hot from the fryer. Along with the gyro plate we ordered falafel's. They are smaller then any falafel I've had before, but with five of them, they are just enough. So packed with flavor that it's almost unbelievable how good they were. The food is presented on styrofoam plates, but with the quality of the food, why care what it is served on. The menu may be small but when you want to try everything, it's a guarantee to bring people back.

  • Jennifer C.

I've been here four times and keep thinking I will try something other than the classic gyro, but then I can't imagine NOT having the classic gyro, so that is all I have tried, and they are delicious! I love Greek food and this satisfies. Food is great, but it's not an ambiance place, grab it to go or eat on the edge of the parking lot.

    (5)
  • Laura M.

Best Falafel I have tasted in the U.S. Did I expect that to happen at a small strip mall in Martinez? No. Did it happen? Oh yes. I have vague memories of a falafel eaten in the fall of 1999 in Berlin being as good or better but I drank quite a bit back then so the memories could be unreliable. Furthermore, as Berlin is perpetually under construction, I'd be hard pressed to offer you directions. If, on the other hand, you're looking for something within 50 miles and 10 years of San Francisco or Berkeley, Yanni's, although lacking in any ambiance, is worth on the sheer perfection of the falafel alone. I can't wait to get back there and try some gyros or fries. I mean, no ambiance but its still 5 stars? That is because the falafel is, like, 20 stars.

  • Corey K.

Wow wow wow !!! This place has the best gyro's I have ever I mean ever had! This is a must !!!

    (5)
  • Kimberley C.

Oh my gawd yes AMAZING. Ordered a falafel sandwich combo which comes with garlic rice and greek salad. AMAZING. FIVE STARS! Delicious delicious delicious! The pita is soft and delicious and stuffed with falafel, lettuce, tzatziki, and onions, and comes wrapped in paper for easy eating! This is my new favorites eats!

I'm always looking for great places to get a gyro. Everywhere I go they taste different. This place, however, is pretty good! It's a a very small cafe but the food is amazing and they are very speedy.

The friendly man at Yanni's served me their mightiest Gyro with Everything. The Pita is soft and delectable, the Meat tender and flavorful, and all the other Ingredients can account for themselves. Yanni's patented Tazizdiki sauce is dope as Xoloft. The mighty Gyro is a capital "E" experience. Like this: Experience. For some reason Yanni's adheres to a strict policy of pay after you eat. I suppose you could pay before if you strongarmed them into accepting your cash, but in general they suggest kindly that you eat first then pay. While I don't understand it, I choose to believe that it comes from a place of love, due to my liking for the exceptionally sweaty and friendly people who both own and operate the restaurant I think. Make sure that you remember to pay and don't leave full and satisfied and thieves. The time i visited they were only accepting cash. I think normally they take other forms of payment. If I were you and I wanted grease on my clothes and tasty Greek food in my mouth, I would get in my car and crush pedestrians and fire hydrants in my haste to get to to Yanni's Fabulous Greek Place of Martinez! I cannot vouch for any other menu item save the mighty Gyro, but since one mighty Gyro can feed a man for ten lifetimes, you will most likely not want anything else.

Fantastic food and service! Best Greek food I have had outside of Greece! Highly recommend checking this place out.

  • Safia M.

This place has the best Gyros I've ever had. The guy and girl that work there are always nice. Prices are very good. You cant go wrong with the Gyro plate with great fries and an awesome salad. They have everything great baklavas too. Check it out, you won't be disappointed!

    (5)
  • Jessica H.

This place is awesome but be prepared for a hole In the wall spot for a quick lunch. It's no sit down kind of place... Reminds me of a little spot in Greece where the food is fresh and you wonder how they make it so good from such a tiny kitchen. Carry on with your greekness Yannis!

  • Sarah S.

Love them!! My family goes here at least 2-3 times a month if not more!! The service is great and friendly!! There food is delicious and fresh tasting I've never been disappointed!! Some of our favorite items are garlic feta fries, classic gyro, steak gyro, chicken gyro, chicken skewers, meatball and most have an option to be plate that comes with your choice of fries or lemon rice and salad (I recommend the lemon rice it's delicious!!). There tzatiki sauce is great too!! If you don't like this place you need new tastebuds!!

    (5)
  • Leah M.

Oh man, this place is ridiculously good! Garlic feta fries, to die for! Their gyro is so good, I got the super (I think that's what it's called) gyro which has grilled onions and peppers. Huge and could not finish it, that's what boyfriends are for! Baklava is sweet and tasty! The place itself is pretty small, limited seating inside and outside. Highly recommend this place!

    (5)
  • Trang W.

Sooooo good! Can't go wrong with anything on the menu...gyro...greek salad...must also grab one or a few of their freshly made baklava!

  • S K.

The pita here is from heaven! So soft and warm with just the right texture and thickness. I could've sworn that it was made fresh in that tiny little cafe, but when I asked the owner, to my surprise, he said that they didn't make their own pitas but that they do special order them. Was he pulling my chain? How could that fresh, soft, chewy goodness not have been made there on the spot? I had the classic gyro plate which comes with rice and salad. I held off on the rice and got extra salad instead. The salad it comes with is not the greek salad, it's $2 to upgrade from basic to greek which is what I did. The gyro was very good. It came with the meat, red onions, tomato, and of course the tzatziki sauce, all wrapped in that pita goodness. The tzatziki was flavorful, the meat perfectly seasoned and the ingredients were fresh. Next time though, I'll ask them to add lettuce. I'm not sure if that's at all traditional? But I've never had a gyro without lettuce so I missed the leafy crunch. The greek salad was very fresh. I swear, they make their vinaigrette here too. The hint of lemon juice in the background tasted freshly squeezed. I was very sad that there were only two olives in that huge salad, very sad =( There was a random pepperocini in there. Please, Yanni's, get rid of that pepperocini and add a couple of more of those yummy olives. Just noticed that I used the word ''fresh'' too many times in this review. Well, if anything, that's a good sign.

  • Amy H.

This place was okay.. Not that much variety in choices and I was almost charged $5 for a little container of garlic sauce.. Wtf? Small place inside but outside seating is available. Kind of in a dead little plaza. I got the gyros and they were okay, kind of bland and not enough flavors/ingredients.. Too basic! I also bought 3 baklava.. too sweet, not crispy enough.. kinda stale actually. :/

    (3)
  • Kris R.

One of the best Gyros I've had. The ingredients taste fresh and the meat is tasty. I usually get the Mega Gyro Classic. The spot is pretty small but they have outdoor seating too.

    (5)
  • jessica b.

Meh the falafels were really salty but the first couple bites were good. If I go again I'll get dolmas hummus bread. The bread was really good. They have some vegan food but for sure not 5 stars 3 is more accurate

Had a strong craving for a gyro last night so I started Yelping places to go. Daphne's isn't authentic to me so that was immediately eliminated. The place closest to me is closed on weekends. I then came across Yanni's. High review average and rave remarks plus great pics...I'm allllll over it. It's located in a quiet tucked away area which I really appreciate. The place is small but perfect to grabbing a quick bite. The guy behind the counter was extremely nice. Great customer service skills. Everything was made fresh to order and made quickly. There was no one there so I was able to get in and out in about 5 minutes. Just got home and devoured my gyro. The meat was flavorful, tzatziki creamy, fresh and perfectly seasoned. The only downside is putting the fresh fries in the styrofoam container steamed them and made them soggy. There really is no way to avoid it though, minimize it, maybe but it's kind of inevitable. Love the service and love the food. The guy said he wanted to make sure I came back and believe me, I will!

These guys... God damnit.. their shit is so good it's unbelievable... it makes me wanna fuckin cry because the food they're dealin outta this joint is ridiculous. I've probably been here over a hundred times. It's my go to spot for gyros in the deeper east bay. The classic gyros here are so good I sometimes eat 2 of em!!!! After the 1st I'm not even hungry I just take down the 2nd because I just wanna feel that pleasure for a longer amount of time!!! WOWWW the bread is so damn good, the fries are delicious. They know me because I am such a frequent customer! This place is ridiculous man. Sometimes I get the MEGA GYRO to get the extra goodies like zucchini & bell peppers, etc. IF I COULD PICK ONE PLACE AND ONLY ONE PLACE TO EAT OUT AT FOR THE REST OF TIME, THIS IS IT. I LOVE YOU YANNI. CONSISTENCY. EVERY TIME THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS. EVERY TIME. WOW.

  • Amy P.

Been going to Yanni's for the last 4+ years. The gyros (regular lamb/beef blend) are so good here that we rarely deviate from ordering anything else on the menu. The pita is always fluffy and warm, and stuffed with perfect amount of flavorful meat and fresh, zesty tzatziki sauce. The Martinez location, situated in a business park with a gym next door, is a casual, family owned place that seats no more than 12 inside, with four tables outside and friendly staff. Its fancier sister restaurant in Danville offers more upscale Greek food and a decent selection of wine. Although my experience at the Danville location was positive, I'd choose the Martinez location any day. My BF and his kids love the baklava here also. I personally don't care for it much--call me strange, but I don't like soggy phyllo. It's much better when they're flaky with a bit of crunchiness.

  • Daisy S.

I've been looking for a great gyro place in the area AND YES... This place is on point! I ordered the pork gyro.. So delicious and fresh! With fries and the white sauce. So amazingly good. Lady at the register was also very nice and patient :) Offered to let us pay after we were done eating which was nice. The baklava was a nice finishing touch! I'll definitely be back for these bomb gyros.

  • Melyssa G.

Been here a few times. Small little place. Quaint. Good food though. All I've had were the gyros. I should definitely explore the menu more.

  • Donna P.

I dropped in for lunch with a friend and we both ordered Gyros. I had the chicken which was quite good and my friend had the steak. Both Gyros came with a wonderful tzatzziki sauce, fresh tomatoes, grilled onions and peppers. The bread/pita was hot and flavorful. I love Greek food and will return to try some of the other dishes on the menu. My only complaint is the music was a bit loud for such a small place. I dislike having to raise my voice to be heard by my dining companions.

    (4)
  • Antoniya T.

Very nice place! Nice stuff and the food it's great! I love their gyros and pita bread, and my favourite tzatziki sauce!

Consistently great food. My family and I have been eating here for the past few years and we are happy with the food and service!

  • Layla Y.

Amazing food and friendly staff. I come here during my lunch and they know exactly what I want and get it ready very fast knowing I only have a 30 min break. Food is fresh, clean, sauces are fresh and authentic, and YOU MUST try the fried zucchini, so delicious.

    (5)
  • Alicia E.

Best lamb gyros EVER! Worth the visit but if you're in a rush or ordering out, you may want to call in advance to place your order since they are always busy, yes, it's that good! Great customer service, always the same man and woman running the business, they deserve 5 stars too! :)

    (5)
  • David I.

I'm a big fan of Greek food. Unfortunately there are few choices in the area. I had heard of Yanni's a few times from friends and I was curious to taste the food for myself. I had the chance to try them this past Saturday. The line was short, thankfully, and the food was prepared within a reasonable amount of time. I ordered the chicken pita plate. I was pleasantly surprised by the food. I loved it. I can't wait to go back.

    (5)
  • Lee H.

The feta fries are amazing! This is a place to experience decently authentic Greek food in an unexpected location. My girlfriend who lives in Concord introduced me to Yanni's and I have to say, I wasn't expecting the food to be as good as it was. The baklava is homemade and not too sweet and I'm telling you, those feta fries are a great combo, albeit not all that authentic.

    (4)
  • Brian S.

This place is Off the charts. Legit food. Best gyro around. I got the gyro, the hummus and pita starter, and the fries. Outstanding all the way around. Service was quick, the dudes working there were on their game. Two thumbs up. I will be back time and time again.

    (5)
  • Jane L.

Yum! Delicious gyros. It's a nice little local spot that makes fresh food. The combos are huge and will leave you stuffed. I've gone a couple of times and left satisfied every time. Very casual seating inside and outside. Great if you're looking to support small business and eat some flavor packed gyros.

  • Chris S.

We love this place! If you're looking for fresh delicious made with love gyros. This is the place to go. They remember us every time we walk through the door. We've been going here for 5 years and it's been perfect every time. Their garlic feta fries are a must have.

    (5)
  • Jeromy G.

Had a Gyro. Pretty tasty. Just wish they didn't glop all the yogurt sauce and would spread it out more evenly. The pita was nice and warm and the lamb had good flavor. Pretty tasty.

    (4)
  • Pamela M.

I wanted to eat everything. Great great food. The baklava is from heaven. The moussaka was incredible. The yogurt tasted better than ice cream. Don't let the fast food setting keep you away.

  • Kalli S.

Great food! Quick service! Best Gyro I have ever had!

    (4)
  • Maxwell C.

I rarely get out to this part of the bay, but whenever I do, Yanni's is my first stop. The Gyros here are amazing - rich, flavorful, and perfectly spiced meats, along with just the right amount of delicious and creamy yogurt sauce.

    (5)
  • Brooklyn A.

The mega gyro is quite possibly the best thing I've ever eaten. If your looking for an amazing gyro, this is the place to go! The garlic feta fries are great too, but the gyro is so filling it's hard to eat anything else. Try this place, you will not regret it.

    (5)
  • Jay K.

I am sorry that Yanni's has gone so down hill, I ate there last week and I am sure they had mopped the floor with grease, at least that's how it felt. The salad was pitiful, the cucumbers were bitter and the tomatoes were old and withered, the gyros was cold and overly salted. As if this wasn't all bad enough the waiter brought the food on broken styrofoam to-go pieces apologizing that for some reason that I couldn't understand that they had no plates!! I have eaten there multiple times before and previously loved it. I hope this encourages the owner to make some urgent changes.

    (1)
  • Jules S.

Do you remember Mad Greek @Bartstow on your way to Vegas in the good old days, and how good they use to be? Well, Yanni's may not be as memorable for me, but they're pretty damn good. The Classic Plate which comes with lamb is incredible. That's as good a lamb as I tasted in New Zealand. The Classic Plate also comes with rice and salad. The rice is amazing and the salad is refreshing, especially on a hot summer day. Only drawback is that the salad doesn't hold for long, so make sure you eat it all up and don't bring leftovers home. The Feta and Tomatoes, Hummus, and Pita are quite an item too. Simply, delicious Greek food! If you're out near Martinez, CA...I'd say it's worth a detour in your plans to come here!

Love the Greek Salad and Falafels

  • Leila G.

Updating my review: as the owner responded to me and explained why this isn't the authentic Arabic food. For me meat was dry!!! I was looking for a more Arabic Gyro..Owner is Greek. so that explains the difference.

  • Nicole B.

Best Greek food around! Everything I've tasted is amazing! Defiantly my go too place. My favs are the Greek salad with chicken, lemon rice, and mega chicken gyro. The staff are very friendly and efficient. There isn't any decor and very many seats to eat here, but the food delish! I would highly recommend Yannis.

LUNCH IS AWESOME! 1st tried this place for dinner (around 8pm). I was sad and I yelped it. The owner contacted me and graciously offered to buy me lunch/dinner if I wanted to give it a 2nd chance. I was hesitant, but 2 months later and AFTER I TRIED the new Mazza Greek Restaurant on Crescent Drive (what a HUGE disappointment that was *CRIES*)... I was more than willing to give this local spot a 2nd try. I ordered around 2pm (after the lunch rush). The OWNER personally greeted me with my same order - Gyro Plate (to-go). When I got back to work, I was PLEASANTLY surprised to see that they had put the salad dressing in a separate little container which made all the difference in the world. The salad had not 1 but 3 thick red tomato slices on top of some freshly cut romaine lettuce. I added just half of the dressing to the salad and it was PERFECTLY Crisp. I LOVE my salad and there was plenty! *Note to self: ALWAYS ask for dressing on the side for to-go orders *smiles* Even the rice was better. Not at all starchy, not clumped together; it was light and flavorful! The owner stated that the rice was made fresh daily and more than once if there's a big lunch rush. The gyro itself required a 2 handed-hold if you want to avoid losing any of that tzaziki sauce. Really, 2 hands, it's huge. With a side of pita bread, the Gyro Plate is enough food for 2 people... Literally. For lunch, this place was FABULOUS! Since my previous review, they have added a shaded patio area which is perfect for these hot summer days. A very relaxed atmosphere; perfect for a lunch with friends and/or coworkers. ***NEW ITEM?! I noticed that there's a LAMB SKEWER plate that comes with an 8" skewer (ladies, get a ruler) filled with thick chunks of lamb. They make it to order, so you can tell them how you want it cooked, sounds yummy and it would cost a lot more to cook it at home! And it EXACTLY what my meating lovin' husband willing be ordering next time *medium-rare*. I was VERY pleased to find that my 1st visit was a fluke. Not only was the food what I was hoping for, but I found that the owner REALLY cares about the products that they sell and the customers they serve. I'm going to come back for DINNER soon and review the lamb skewer plate and perhaps try something new :D PS The Baklava is PERFECTION! I've made it myself on a few occassions (labor intensive) and theirs is BETTER than mine... Delish! *SUPPORT LOCAL FAMILY BUSINESSES, especially if you want them to stick around *wink*

Tangy dolmathes, fluffy falafel, and savory grilled chicken in a friendly environment. The staff were warm and most gracious in answering my allergy-related food questions as well. It's a sweet hole-in-the-wall (corner) shop that I will be sure to visit again soon.

It's Gyro Time! My favorite time of the year! So much flavor and a slightly chewy pita bread makes this one of the best gyros I've ever had. I think next time I'll stick with the classic meat instead of steak though because the steak, while delicious, was a bit chewy and hard to eat in this sandwich-like style. I had to use my fingers like a cave man to pull off bite size portions, but man was it worth it! Now I know where to go whenever I'm craving some good-ass gyros.

Tasty local place. Juicy steak gyros, thick fries like English chips and good salads with that delicious Greek dressing. Sometimes the guy running the show needs to do some deep breathing, but as long as I do my own while waiting on line, it's fine.

I love this place. It is a little divey but I love dive places. It is hard to find a decent gyro in the east bay around here and this is the best around. I go there frequently. It is more of a take out place then a sit down restaurant. The staff is nice. The gyro plate is where it is all!! It is definitely not low cal but it sure is yummy. For all those who say they like Daphne's better, you do NOT understand authentic Greek food at all!!! This place is very authentic tasting. Daphne's uses mayonnaise in their hummus (GROSS!) It is just a chain restaurant like Taco Bell and not authentic. They make things in mass and most of the time the chicken you eat has been sitting there for hours and dried out unless you are lucky to get there when they have a fresh batch. They over use lemon in everything. Also, most of their their stuff is premade and frozen that they warm up. Then again what do I know. I avoid places like McDonalds and Taco Bell because I choose to go to places that make stuff from scratch from local people. Plus they have all those fillers in them.

Best Greek food I have ever tasted. Everything is so fresh and it never dissapoints. If you want to try something unique and something worth your money I highly recommend this place.

I cannot post a pros or cons list on this place because it's mostly cons. I give this place 2 stars because at least the service is friendly. We ordered two Mega Gyros, one substituted for chicken. As beautiful as the food looked, there were only like 3 little pieces of chicken in the entire pita. I felt like a vegetarian eating my meal last night! And the wait??? I was already agitated for waiting there for what seemed like an eternity, and because I was waiting, I expected that the food would be bombin! But no, it wasn't. Whoever likes the garlic fries....clearly your food pallet needs some refining. Unless you had it on a really good day where the fries weren't soggy and gross, like ours was. I really had high hopes for this place! The pita I had was good, just not worth the price because of the lack of meat. Daphnes is way better.

  • Ricardo H.

I was looking forward to this place because of the high ratings, but it didn't live to the expectations. The pro: Lamb/beef meat used for gyro is really tasty. They toast the pita bread on the stove top and gets some grease, giving it a nice fry with good flavor. The hummus was tasty as well as the falafel. The not so good: The tatziki sauce tasted a lot like sour cream. That flavor profile I do not associate with tatziki, but that might just be me. So you can imagine how this can take away from the meal since the sauce is used for the gyro as well as the falafels. It's not bad, but just not for me. Clearly a lot of people giving it high praise can't be all wrong.

I don't always go Greek but when I do I go to Yanni's!! This place is awesome!! I had the Gyros plate! ! Loved the food. Nice portions.

  • Julie P.

We love Yanni's! The food is excellent and the service is friendly and quick. This is not a sit down type place, but they do have a few tables inside and outside. My favorite dish at Yanni's is the chicken pita. The tzatziki is fresh and garlicky, get extra for the rice and salad! My only complaint is that sometimes when you order fries with the plate they can be a little soggy, so make sure you pick up your food on time. I also love the vegetarian sampler. The dolmas are perfectly seasoned, and the salad and falafel are excellent as well. If you are looking for fast, cheap Greek food, definitely try this place.

  • Angeli W.

My heart flutters when I think about Yanni's. I have never been to Greece, or even have the slightest idea if this place even resembles real Greek food. All I know is, their classic gyro is one of the best things I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. It's large and in charge, for a price of $10. I get the classic gyro plate, it comes with rice (like butter rice or something. amazing!) and a salad on the side. Not that you need it, cause the gyro is enough to send you over the edge. But of course I also get the dolmas too, because I'm a sucker for those little things. The lamb is sooooo tender and soft. I can't think of any analogy that would describe how good their lamb is. Their lamb tastes like...the opposite of how prison feels like! It's tucked away in this plaza, so look out for the signs. Get in your car and drive there now!

I was craving Greek/Mediterranean food the other day. Searched on yelp and decided to try this place out because they had garlic feta fries, which sounded amazing. Small place with seating for about 10 people inside with a smaller outside seating area. It is in a weirdly long plaza, but has plenty of parking. My boyfriend and I ordered at the counter and got the gyro, garlic feta fries, and feta and tomatoes. We sat at the table and spotted what looked like a bullet hole through the glass, which probably should have been a cause for alarm, but it obviously didn't phase us since we did not move from our spot. Service was quick and friendly and the food was amazing. The sauce on the garlic fries was like a creamy garlic flavored ricotta cheese textured feta sauce which was fantastic on super hot and crispy fries. The gyro didn't look amazing but the flavor was really good. Only complaint my boyfriend had with the gyro was the size of the raw onions, which I admit were large but I like onions and strangely enough the onion flavor was not strong. The feta and tomato was exactly that - lightly dressed sliced tomatoes with slices of feta. Simple and delicious, but if you don't like raw tomatoes or feta then you probably should not get this. I guess you can say the portions were 'regular' but it was good enough for two adults to split and be a content full. If I lived closer, I would frequent this place more often, especially if I had a cheese fry craving. I would definitely recommend it.

  • Laura S.

Awful. Didn't have experience that was similar at all to most if these reviews. Platters are waste of money with sticky rice and over-dressed warm salad. The beef patty was hard and only half the portion I expected. This was incredibly disappointing and had led me to see that Yelp is not a true predictor if quality food.

This place is the sh*t. I have gone to Yanni's Greek Cafe three times. Each visit I have tried something completely different. Each time has been better than the last. Balls in my mouth. Yum! Big balls - even better. Yanni's Greek meatballs in pita takes it to another level. Picture four mouth-watering beef and pork meatballs that are lightly spiced, served in a pita bread with onions, tomatoes and the most delicious tzatziki sauce on the planet. One of the best pita sandwiches I have ever eaten. A++++++++ Another fantastic item on the menu is the steak gyro. It consists of sliced meat, served in a pita with grilled onions, bell peppers, tomatoes and their heavenly tzatziki sauce. Huge and flavorful! B+ When I am feeling unhealthy, I order garlic fries topped with feta cheese - the perfect side dish to a pita sandwich. Be forewarned, they are addicting. **Do yourself a favor and make sure you brush and floss vigorously right after.** A+ As for price, they are in the same league as most Greek restaurants. Ala carte runs from 4.75 to 11.95. You have the option of upgrading to a meal/plate for a few dollars more. Since the pita sandwiches alone are humongous, I usually opt out of paying extra. The plate comes with your choice of lemon rice pilaf or fries and tossed green salad. If there is one drawback, it is the salad. Tossed salad is an unnecessary filler, in my opinion. Of course, you can request to get Greek salad instead; but that would cost a couple dollars more. I would recommend replacing the tossed salad entirely with rice or fries. Wouldn't you agree? Bottom line: Yanni's is the epitome of consistency. Time and time again, they deliver amazing results. They sure have made a fan out of me. Cannot wait for my next visit.

Awesome place! Lots of veggies on the pita pockets ... delicios falafels and the staff are super cool. Hidden gem for sho. May want to order the tzaziki on the side since they kinda go overboard sometimes.

Great Greek Food!! Very Small restaurant (about 3-4 tables inside) and 3-4 outside. Gyro plate(lamb/beef) included tasty green salad, tomatoes, olives and dressing and rice. lamb/beef was excellent. Rice was ok, and I will get he French fries next time. Baccalava was one of the best. Mousaka was ok, but not as good as the gyro.

I just called the California Health Department on this establishment, and I sincerely hope the owners see this review. I come to this restaurant almost weekly and love the food. I usually order to go, and today when I ordered my usual my food came with a long piece of black hair in it. I promptly called them back and brought it to their attention. None of the employees handled my grievance well. When I called I said there is hair in my salad and I would like a refund since the food is contaminated. The woman who answered the phone responded only by asking me if the hair was everywhere or just in the salad. As if to imply I should disregard the hair, and eat the rest of it. I was SHOCKED! At that point, I told her I was disgusted and on my way to return the food and get a refund. When I walked in, the man in charge was unapologetic and when I brought the hair to his attention he gave me a refund but then told me, "This is a restaurant- sh*t happens." I proceeded to ask for the owner's phone number since the manager did not take responsibility for their mistake. I come here frequently, and have had many interactions with the owners. I know they take customer service seriously and I was surprised to have my valid complaint brushed aside so nonchalantly when they could see the hair in my salad in front of them. They never gave us the contact information and he asked me to leave. All I wanted was a simple apology and it saddens me to see one of my favorite local restaurants treat a loyal customer so rudely and disrespectfully. It is a shame to spend $30 on a meal for 2 people only to come home and find hair in it. The management and staff here are unprofessional and do not know what customer service is. I will no longer patronize this restaurant and I do not want my friends and family eating at a place that serves contaminated food, and takes it so lightly. That is against the law, and I seriously hope this place cleans up their act because I really LOVE eating here, but now I can't trust anything that they make.

This place is pretty fantastic. My chicken pita was HUGE, and was drowned in sauce, which I LOVED. I also ordered a side of falafel, which was really yummy as well, even without any sauce or anything. Although, everything is made to order, which I appreciate, they lose 1 star for the long wait (~20 mins), and I felt bad because I got my food before some of the people that came before me. Word to the wise: Call your order ahead of time. There were about 4 people that walked in while I waited who picked up and were out the door in no time. Also, if you have a large party, they have very limited seating. Nevertheless, I'll be back!

I am no expert on Greek food, and I don't have it very often but I always enjoy a gyro + yummy rice and a salad from Yanni's. Take it home to eat, restaurant isn't set up as a place to hang out, grab and go enjoy at home.

I've only recently found this little hole in the wall and it is now one of my regular, go-to places. The only reason Yannie's doesn't get a five star rating from me is because they don't have souvlaki on their lunch menu. I understand they will make it for you if you have them cater an event, but I don't want to pay for a hundred orders just to get one. As far as their Gyros go, get the classic half beef, half lamb with a side of lemon rice and greek salad....uuuuummmm good and reasonably priced.

    (4)
  • Beth M.

Real greek food!!! Lamb Gyros are the way to go. Sadly for me they were out of the Garlic Feta Fries (ps the sauce is made from scratch). I plan to go back when I come home for Christmas!!

First i want to start with the fact that i love anything with Mediterranean flavor.... The food is good the service is also good the price is good..... It's ALL GOOD. Ill go there again ones i get a chance its a very nice place and i love it!!!!

  • Nora S.

Considering that there is a dearth of Greek places in the vicinity, this definitely ranks the highest. That aside, it does have decent food. I thoroughly enjoyed my veggie wrap. It was full of flavor and the price was right. If you want to compare this more generally against Middle Eastern/Mediterranean in the area (which includes the several Arabic places around here like Babalou's, the Mediterranean), it still stacks up well although I have to say I still think the Mediterranean is a tad better.

    (4)
  • Joe J.

Not bad, not very good either. The pita bread was bland, the gyro meat was dry and there wasn't much of it. I've had much better gyros elsewhere, will not be back.

    (2)
  • Jessica S.

By far the best Greek food in the area. It's always a good sign when you come in 20 minutes before closing and the place is packed. I had the classic gyro plate and baklava. The gyro was good, and the baklava is the best I've had in a restaurant- crisp on top and moist on the bottom. Definitely coming back!

I love Yanni's! I sometimes dream of Yanni's when I'm alone and wanting delicious food that I don't have to share, I have toddler twins. I can't think of a bad thing about this place. If you like Greek food you will love Yanni's.

I came here after seeing the reviews on Yelp and while I thought it was decent, it didn't blow me away. I came pretty close to their closing time though and so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt. This is a tiny place though, I probably wouldn't recommend eating here but taking it to go. I'll be back to give it another go at another time. Hopefully it'll impress me a lot more.

Martinez just became a whole lot more attractive. You sexy bitch. No longer will I complain about its suicidal atmosphere OR its oven like temperatures...well I probably will still continue to bitch about its weather (it's the only exciting topic in the city). YES! Martinez has been place on the map by Yannis Greek Cafe. Yannis serves a delicious Vegetarian Gyro with zucchini, onions, tomatoes and other unknown yummies; GET IN MY BELLY! Please note, ordering the plate is overkill and you'll feel like a lard ass if you do (I speak from experience). The Yelpers of this café have done it justice and I am forever thankful. My intent is to return. I recommend the café to everyone. Order: Veggie Gyro Plate with rice and salad + fountain drink = $11+ Based on 7/19/2010 visit,

I'm extremely surprised this place has such rave reviews. Hubs and I went to this place and ordered the lamb kabob plate with salad and fries and the chicken kabob plate with all rice. Both plates came out with one kabob, fries were just the frozen kind you can buy at any grocery store, rice was essentially Daphne's rice but a little more moist, and salad was forgettable. The actual meat on the kabobs were definitely tasty but for a girl that always has leftovers, doesn't really even like meat that much, I definitely wanted/needed more. Based on the other reviews, it may just be that we ordered the wrong thing and should've ordered a gyro or meatballs. Also, cooked to order is great but 20 minutes for take out is a bit much. To top it off, paying $30 for two kabobs and forgettable sides (no drinks or extras) seemed a bit much.

  • Lisa H.

Very tasty, but a little on the pricey side for its location. The basic gyro costs $6.25, but for the salad and rice or fries its $8.95 and the salad and rice were not impressive. The gyro was very filling, and I really liked the pita bread they used. I would definitely recommend trying this place.

  • Jada B.

Good eats for sure. I had heard about this place for awhile, but kept wasting my money at Daphnes when I had a gyro craving. No more! We got the gyro plate, which comes with rice and salad, and we had an order of fried zucchini. DELISH! The gyro was huge; they do not skimp on the meat here. The rice was cooked well and the salad was fresh-fyi the kalamata olives in the salad have pits intact ;-) Fried zucchini was good too, it was a nice size order and it comes with ranch to dip in. This place will definitely become a frequent stop for us.

I stopped here on the early side of New Years Eve for a takeout dinner. Gayle had enjoyed a late lunch at Sidebar in Danville with some friends and advised that I was on my own. However, I needed to be back in time and ready for our "Up in the Air" date at Downtown Pleasant Hill. I occasionally go to the 24 Hour Fitness next door and since Yanni's is so small and unassuming, it's kind of easy to miss (even with their deliberate signage). That's unfortunate since the food and the counter service are both quite good. I ordered a gyros sandwich, plus the platter choices of salad and lemon rice. The pita bread was fresh, the meat was tender, the sauce was tangy, the rice was delicious, the greens were crispy and generous with tomatoes, and the price was right. The only thing missing was a hint of Greek Town in Chicago and a cold glass of Retsina.

I am a San Francisco Wedding Photographer who had to find a place in Martinez to meet with a potential client. I searched Yelp, and picked this place because of their fab reviews and because I just LOVE Greek food and the culture! When I arrived, I found my clients there, who had arrived early and had already eaten, what they described as TONS of food! LOL! I ordered the Avgolemono soup, which was YUMMY! It came HOT served with crispy grilled pita chips, FAB! I also ordered the falafel gyro. Unfortunately, I was not able to eat the gyro since I got full with most of my soup and the chips, as a gastric bypass patient, I need to remember this. Well here it is the next morning and I am devouring my gyro! WOW! I am not kidding, this is the BEST falafel and pita and everything I have had in a while! What I like about this falafel is that it is not HARD, and has a great combo of flavor and texture. The staff here is amazingly friendly and Voula, the cafe's owner even came and sat with us. I ended up chatting it up with her and truly found her fascinating! She's a good Greek gal who owns a GREAT little Greek Cafe in the middle of Martinez. Go pay her a visit and get ready to chow down! OH! My clients bought me a Baklava, and guess what? HEAVENLY, I told my clients that I finally found the BEST baklava around, tasted homemade to me! I LOVE this place and wish I lived closer! But, El Cerrito is not too far, I most definitely have to bring the hubby here as well as my Cuban family whose coming from Miami soon! Thanks Voula for being such a fabulous host! Best wishes to you, your family, and Yanni's Greek Cafe!

As an American who has lived in Greece for 2 years, many friends have asked me where the best Greek food is here in the Bay Area. I always always point them to Yanni's. The staff can testify, I have literally brought dozens of my friends and family there in the 2 years I've been home. It's authentic, owned by a Greek, Voula, whose always warm and hospitable. I would definitely recommend either the steak or chicken gyro, and the baklava... oh the baklava. It's spectacular. 5 stars easy.

I had the takeout vegetarian appetizer and it was cold that noontime so I did not sit outside as the aluminum chairs did not have any cushion on them. The helpings were generous - i loved the hummus, warm pita, yogurt , salad, and the grape leaves. I did not heart so much the falafel balls - it was too dense for me. Nice friendly staff.

Awesome salad and hot fries as always. Delicious steak gyros! Mmmm I'm glad I'm eating one right now :D What a yummy dinner this'll be. ** Wow, I feel like exploding, but I can't stop. It's just too good :0 Must finish eating....

I liked sitting outside, waiter was friendly and the food was reasonably priced. The gyro and eggplant dip were tasty--lots of garlic, just as it should be! However, they charge for extra pita bread, didn't let me know beforehand, and failed to bring it out.

Went for an eat in with the family. This place is tiny, it's more of a to-go place. The staff is very friendly and willing to accommodate you. The hummus was just ok. Chicken and rice plate was good. Beef Gyro was good. Hamburger was good. I want to give this place 5 stars but just can't do it.

Best gyros at a reasonable price. A little hole in the wall dishing out great food. Don't order the full plate unless you are REALLY hungry- large portions of fresh salad and yellow rice along with your entree.

  • Geary L.

Good, quick Greek fast food! Friendly staff, good sized portions and relatively inexpensive. I have been to Yanni's many times. I have tried most of the items on the menu and have never had a bad meal. There are usually "Specials" that usually are. Don't look for ambiance, table clothes or dancing Greeks!! Just order up, sit down and enjoy!

  • Dank I.

This is my all time favorite place for gyros. I'm asian and I don't have much experience w/ this type of cuisine so take it for what it's worth. The beef/lamb is great. The lamb is not gamey (sp?). The meat is off their "spit" roaster and slightly charred on their griddle. The white sauce is tangy and creamy...all good. overall portion and cost can not be beat...especially in suburbs. Ambiance is typical clean hole in the wall...decent attentive service.

Yanni's is good! You definitely need a big appetite upon eating Yanni's. The portions are HUGE. Which is a blessing and a curse. I guess its betters to have enough food and be sure to be satisfied than not enough? Lol The gyros are great...huge....can't really get your mouth around them...but delicious nonetheless! :) I like the staff here too. They are always smiling and happy to help and serve you. Never been treated poorly here or have had to wait for my food long. Yay Yanni's!

Finally...Greek food in the East Bay! My parents told me about this place so I finally made it over there last weekend cuz hubby & I were craving gyros. I love their extensive menu! I wanted to try everything but stuck with the gyros. Man, they stuff those things with so much meat, I couldn't even finish mine. And the gyro meat was not lamby at all (I despise lamb). Next time I will drag my hubby there so he can converse with his peeps while I stuff my face with pastisio, moussaka, gyros, & souvlaki!

This place is a diamond in the rough! My husband turned me on to this place. It has great prices, delicious food and a small quaint environment. 5 stars for french fries 4 stars for pita (not enough onion and tomato for me but a TON of meat; just a personal preference though) however, the pita is grilled to perfection!! 5 stars for value: you get a plate that includes salad, a pita and either fries or rice... Each of our plates was only $8.95 each which is not bad for the amount of food you get. I had the fries and my husband had the rice. Both very tasty. I wouldn't recommend coming here with large groups as the space is rather limited and probably only sits 16 people inside but there are tables outside. We will definitely be back!

First time we went, the tomatoes were straight from the vine, the feta was perfectly creamy, and the steak gyro was something worthy of City food. Baklava is homemade and not too sweet. Been there three times since and it's awesome every time.

I've never been here before until my coworkers took me here for my very 1st time on September 15th, 2009. The very next day, a bunch of my new coworkers decided to eat here too; so I came here on back-to-back days! Since they were really good, I didn't mind. The only other restaurant that I had Greek food was Daphne's, which was very Americanized and nothing special. After high praises for Yanni's, I have to agree that they blow Daphne's out of the water! Yanni's is a family-owned restaurant and everything is made fresh and is cooked immediately after your order. You pick a table to sit down and they'll deliver it right to your table when it's ready. The prices are kind of high for a quick lunch, but they give you a huge portion for your meal and they don't skimp on the materials. The food is very good and it's a nice alternative from your generic fast food restaurants.

Best gyro I've ever had! I had the steak gyro and fries and i cant wait to go back. This place makes me want to drive the 1.5 hours for more. I've had other Greek food before but it never tasted this good. It was a little greasy (i think it was the grill) but so fresh! best pita ever - hands down.

Atmosphere 3 Service 3 Food 3 All plates came with salad and lemon rice (or fries). The sampler didn't include rice. Salads were rather plain, and the lemon rice seemed soggy. The gyros featured juicy meat as did the freshly grilled lamb. The veggie sampler has three dolmas, four falafel, and a small scoop of hummus accompanied by a few wedges of pita. a little bit of salad was also on the plate. The gyro meat and lamb were the stars of this little place. Dolmas were forgettable, but the falafel were fresh. The hummus is a bit coarser than other places, and had a bit of a lemony taste to it. Different. Gyro Plate x 2 = 3.5 Lamb Skewer Plate = 3 Veggie Sampler = 3 Drinks x 4 Lunch for four, out the door for $60. We need to return to try some of their other dishes. Will update thereafter.

I always try to take into account price, location and the feel before rating something (in other words, I have higher expectations about the food if the place is expensive and putting on airs) and this review reflects that. Yanni's is a small place which is basically a take-out establishment with a few tables inside and a few more outside. You order at the counter. Seems like lots of take-out orders going out the door. ~5 stars for the counter help, friendly, and helpful. ~2 stars for the falafel. Out of the freezer into the fryer a la Costco. ~3 stars for the dolmades. Out of the can onto the plate? Not sure, but the rice had no texture and the flavor was like at the non-greek deli. However the price was reasonable and the tzatziki delicious. ~5 stars for value as where else can you get a gyro with salad and rice for $9? ~5 stars for the gyro and this is based on the fact it was filled with meat which was tasty. Nothing amazing about the meat but the bread was good, the tzatziki was plentiful and the onion crunchy. I got the combo plate which came with rice (lemony converted rice) and a nice amount of salad. I will return when I want gyro and perhaps next time I will try the lamb which sounds good and is often how I rate a greek place.

I picked up lunch here last week. I got the vegetarian combo plate and it was tasty. It came with falafel, dolmades, tzatsiki, hummus, and pita. The falafel was crispy on the outside but nice and moist on the inside. Not too greasy. The dolmades were also good. The grape leaves were nice and tender and made them easy to eat. The hummus was good but definitely didn't need the drizzle of olive oil they added. Next time I would ask for that to be omitted. The pita was soft and delicious with the hummus. Their tzatsiki is creamy but it didn't have enough cucumber flavor for my taste. Their salads look good and I may give one a try next time. The staff is really, really nice. The woman working called me sweetie and gave the woman in front of me a free meal because she had referred a catering job to them.

Overall rating: 4.5 Everything was delicious and tasted authentic except for the Greek salad which would've been fine if they didn't get carried away w/ the dressing. Portions were very generous and service was efficient. Limited seating and limited parking outside the cafe. Not too many other businesses in the area other than 24 hour fitness, some salon and some tae kwon do place. However this place beats Daphne's and I got a great deal via Livingsocial. So it's a win-win on both sides!

This is my second review of this place and I felt so inclined because of what I just ate there. THE CHEESE BURGER WAS OFF THE CHARTS GOOD! I first went to this place years ago because of the Greek food, but today I woke up with a hankerin' for a cheese burger. So I type into yelp "hamburger", Martinez, CA and this pops up like in the first handful of restaurants. I get there and the only thing I got on the menu was a cheeseburger and a soda. I'm going to try and explain it the best I can because the hamburger was really good. First off the bun was light and fluffy, sesame bun, that was slightly toasted. The toppings were simple chopped iceberg, light onion, very ripe tomatoes, and a nice size slice of cheddar cheese. Ok, my explanation sucks, just go try it for yourself - you will be pleased.

3.5 Very friendly staff and solid food, but I don't know if it necessarily deserves the raves people are giving it. Your food can take quite awhile sometimes as well. Their lamb schwarma is unusually good, really nicely flavored all the way through and super tender.

Best gyros in the area! Seriously. The employees are super nice too. I usually get the falafal gyro, the tzatziki is SO delicious, lettuce and tomatoes are always fresh. It's a bummer they aren't open Sundays, that's really the only bad thing I can say about the place!

Surprisingly not everybody has heard or tried a gyro (pronounced year-row) before! When that's the case, I take them or urge them to try Yanni's. The location says Martinez, but it's more like Concord/Pleasant Hill, borderline to Martinez, I think. (It's by the other, better 24 Hour Fitness location, and the Pleasant Hill TJMaxx.) The best gyros around Contra Costa County that I've had (from the one across DVC and the two greek places in the Pleasant Hill shopping area, to the Todos Santos Farmers Market vendor), they don't compare to Yanni's. Reason why they deserve 5 out of 5 in my opinion. If I want simple, fresh, flavorful, fast, greek food, I WILL go across town pass the Sunvalley Mall down that long street towards TJMaxx, for this hole in the wall cafe. I'm a fan!

Can I just say "Amazing"? I loved the Gyro and I'm so glad after reading reviews I came here today. Don't really care about ambiance, price or location, although I live only 9 mins away....lucky me! Price is good for what you get, it is a business and we would want them to stay open, right? I love places that continue to surprise me and this little whole in the wall definately surprised me. And of course I had to try the Pita and Hummus...again, AMAZING!!! And YES, I will only go here now for Greek food. DUH? Thank you Yelpers for helping me discover this place!

Their lamb and chicken gyros are large, flavorful and very good! Pitas are toasted on the grill, tzatziki sauce is perfect, and the fries are crispy. Combo dinner came with a salad for around $8-9. The interior is about 12' x 12' with a few tables, but if it's a nice day, sit outside on the tables and enjoy. Prices are reasonable. First time for me was difficult to find this place even with a GPS. I've driven it several times and never noticed it from the street since it's located in a parking lot probably 10 feet above Alhambra ave. Yeah, the GPS sometimes can throw you for a loop, contrary to what my Dad thinks since he travels nowhere without it! I can literally count on two hands the times his beloved GPS has steered us wrong! He uses it to locate his car at the airport parking lot, which is actually a good idea. I know I can't be the only one who has spent more time than I would like searching for my car in the long term airport parking lot after a vacation! Found this place with a buy one get one free entertainment coupon. Sadly, the coupon is no longer in the book, but I will return again when in the area to feast.

Wow, this little Greek cafe had delicious food! My bf and I ordered 2 gyros, 1 spanokopita, 1 Greek salad and 2 sodas and paid about $25 bucks. The gyros were packed with meat and very filling! We were too full to finish our salad. I only wish they had a larger location but that won't stop us from coming back. Yum!

  • Ryan F.

We came in on a Saturday night, less than an hour before their 8pm closing time. The cafe was very small, with seating for about ten and just enough space behind the counter for the two workers to operate the spit, grill, and fryer. They waited patiently as the four of us debated what to order. I've been searching for good falafel for weeks now, and they eagerly obliged when I asked if I could get a side plate of falafel with my gyro. Everything came out quickly, since there were only two other customers and no take-out orders. The falafel, while passable flavor-wise, was very disappointing in texture and size. It was tiny, flat, and dense, with the look and feel of those store-bought quick-fry lumps, nothing like authentic falafel balls with a crunchy exterior. My standard gyro was decent, with juicy meat and fresh onions and tomatoes, but the small splatter of tzatziki was watery and bland. My sandwich was in desperate need of garlic, cucumber, salt and pepper. It also didn't come with lettuce, so I stole some from my friends' plates, soaked it in various juices leaking from their sandwiches, and jammed it back into my pita. So much better. One friend's chicken gyro sandwich was really juicy and delicious, and while I didn't take random bites from the other two, one got sick from the amount of oil in her vegetarian gyro sandwich. Summary: 2.5 stars - Even though I disagree with those who claim this place is authentic, and the portions didn't look like much, I was still pretty full. However, paying over $10 for mediocre gyro and unimpressive falafel, I won't be going out of my way to come back and try the spanakopita, which better be huge, if it costs $4.25.

I went here with my friend and it was quite tasty. I found it to be an affordable lunch with plenty of true greek food. Since I was at a Greek place I had a Gyro and the meat, yogurt, etc... was all fresh and wonderful. The staff and family that work/own this place are very friendly and the service was excellent. Thank you!

Despite their small and stark space, Yanni's Greek Cafe serves good portions and good tasting Greek food. I can't wait to go back. You should trust me on this one because my boss is Greek and he likes to eat. Thanks Linda for the referral!

Great gyros! Very generous portion of meat with plenty of sauce, tomatoes, and onion all wrapped in a pita grilled to perfection. Very friendly staff. As others have mentioned, the dining area is a bit cramped, but the outdoor seating is very pleasant. Eat-in or take out, the food is consistently hot and delicious!

If you're a Chicagoan living in the Bay Area and trying to find a gyro like they make back home - you're not going to find it. However... Yanni's is good enough! I've tried a hand full of self-proclaimed gyro spots and Yanni's so far is the best. Thier grilled chicken is great too. It's a small fast-food type place so don't come in large groups. Yanni's thanks for bringing a little taste of home to the bay.

OMG - finally authentic delicious wonderful Greek food!!! Much better than the fancy Greek restaurant in Walnut Creek (the name slipped my mind) and Daphne's is just a 'wanna be Greek restaurant'. Everything is great. Not really a full restaurant, more of a take out place, but they have some small tables inside and outside. Staff is friendly and fast. Very affordable, good amounts of food on your plate. They have a liquor license and sell Greek beer. If you have ever been to Greece, you'll know this food is the real deal!!! Thank you Voula - you are a gem, stay here and maybe take over the Thai place next door, knock out the wall and make it a nice cozy Greek restaurant with 'Ouzo galore'. I'll be there!

Excellent food, the real deal, not easy to come by in California. If you miss real greek food, this is where you find it. We keep coming back despite the location (which is the only reason for not 5 stars).

Quick and delicious Greek food. If I lived closer, this would probably be on my top 5 take out places. There's not a whole lot of seating though. I got to meet Yanni-- he's super cute! His picture is on the wall of the restaurant. I had a lamb gyro and it was huge, cheap, and so good. I also had some spinokopita and it was flaky, flavorful, and so yummy. I would definitely go there again.

I cannot find a negative about this place. Located walking distance to my house, we never gave it a second look. One day, my husband and I decided to give it a try. Two times later, I have to give it 5 stars! The gyros are amazing and fresh, falafels are great, too! service staff is friendly. Just a tip, allow about 25-30 minutes for a pick up order. We have never dined-in but I am sure the wait isn't as long for that. We will be back, on the regular :)

For what this place is, it totally deserves a full 5 stars. And what is this place, then? Small, fast, fresh (food, never attitude!), delicious, centrally located, and affordable. Husband and I paid about $22 for dinners and a shared beverage, and a remarkable amount of delicious--even beautiful--food was delivered to our table within minutes. Our classic gyros were piping hot, generously sized, and to-die-for delicious. The side greek salad we ordered was also stuffed with all the good stuff (feta, tomato, cucumbers, and white onions). In a nutshell, Yanni's has won over our hearts and tummys. We will return!!

I have found my new favorite restaurant! Yanni's food is amazing and their service totally personable. They make you feel like they want you there. The owner seems to really, really care about what they do. Her employees reflect that. The gyros are fantastic, as are the falafal sandwiches. Absolute comfort food. I'm craving it all the time and I've just been there twice. The portions are sizable and more than enough for a hungry guy. For me, if I order a "plate", that can be two meals. My husband and son have said they love this place, too, which is a coup. I love that they have indoor seating, and several outdoor tables, so we can bring our dog and eat on the patio on a nice day. Thanks, Yelp, for another great find.

I just went for the first time today. I had the classic gyro, which was was one of the best I've had. The toasted on the grill pita really took it to the next level. I also got an order of the avgolemono soup. One word - Excellent. I tasted it at the cafe but it was too much food. I just reheated it and had it for dinner - it was great and it came with more of the lovely grilled pita bread. I'm looking forward to going back and trying some more items. The moussaka had just come out of the oven. It looked beautiful and smelled great. Next time!

Great food is what you will experience! I always bring my mama to eat here when she visits from Mexico and she absolutely adores it. Greek salad with lamb is my favorite and the greek burger is to die for. You can taste the freshness when you eat here.

I've read raving reviews and a colleague of mine also recommended this place. I value my colleague's opinion because she Greek and have tasted homemade Greek foods she prepared. It's true you can easily miss this place. I found the people very friendly and did not have to wait long. The prices are reasonable. I ordered spanakopita, onion rings, and Moussaka. The onion rings were hot, crispy and not greasy. When I took a bite, you can hear the crunch and the dipping sauce I think were made of Ranch dressing with onion bits. It's a good substitute for ketchup but it's too rich for me. The spanakopita was moist, flaky and you can taste sautéed spinach, and dill. As for the Moussaka, I was very disappointed. The Moussaka had a layer of potato, ground beef, eggplant and thick layer of béchamel. This was very bland, too much nutmeg in the béchamel sauce, could not taste tomatoes and most of all the key ingredient eggplant was barely noticeable. For me, Moussaka relies on the taste and flavor of the "eggplant." People wrongly assume that eggplant can be disguised with a layer of minced meat and a milky white sauce and served as Moussaka. I will come again to try Gyros.

So-freaking-good. I moved back to LA, and I still think about, and miss, the chicken pita at Yanni's. It is always piping hot and has the perfect amount (aka lots and lots) of filling and sauce. When I went to Greece last summer, I was disappointed that nothing tasted as good as Yanni's.

My dad's been waxing poetic on this place for weeks now. Unfortunately, our normal routine is having dinner with dad on Sundays and that means Yanni's is closed. However, this weekend (by special dad request) we swapped Saturday for Sunday and included my brother in the dinner deal as well. My brother got the gyro plate, dad got the meatball in pita plate, hubby the lamb chop plate and I got the beef/noodle casserole plate. Rounding it off was an extra salad, two sides of tzatziki and pita, dad's baklava and my greek yogurt with honey. Let me echo the other reviews stating they give you a LOT of food for your money. Definitely a good value! The food was quite tasty, not the BEST Greek food I've ever had but it was way better than expected and certainly WAY better than that awful Daphne's chain. We all had leftovers (except my brother...who's eating is legendary) and I can definitely say that I could have eaten a tub of that tzatziki washed down with those perfect pieces of pita alone. The greek yogurt and honey was quite good...definitely fresh and more creamy than the Fage version which has long been a favorite of mine. There are so many tempting choices on the menu and the great option of ordering a la carte OR plate style means you could have this for lunch and not go into a food coma. Dad was right! Believe it or not that is a rare occurrence these days.

I LOVE YANNI'S! This is one of my favorite places to eat, their vegetarian gyro is delicious! Complete with bell peppers, tzatziki sauce, and feta cheese, I LOVE it! The pita bread is wonderful, and I'm always stuffed after eating there. It's the best Greek around!

Favorite place for gyros. Fresh, cooked fast, tasty. We have been here many, many times, and the only thing we've tried is the gyros. My kids usually want it without tomatoes, but otherwise, they are gobbled down quickly. Small interior, just a few tables with plastic chairs, so we usually get the food to go.

I was a big fan of this place and then went in today for lunch. Did the prices go up? I got a chicken pita and it cost me 7.99 and that's all I got!!! The other times I went (4) the sandwich was huge - this time it was small and did not seem near the quality of the other times. The bread fell apart - it was a mess. It was like he tried to make it look big by putting it all on one end. I am so darn disappointed. I won't go back unless I get a coupon, because I wouldn't want to risk paying full price again and being disappointed. I could have gone a lot of other places and got way more food for 8.00.

Yasas! One of the best Greek meals I've had.... this place rocks, and the fact it is so close! I'm a fan. I bought a deal on Living Social and was able to try a gyro, falafel balls, and baklava for dessert. My only complaint was that tzatziki sauce was $0.75 extra - and I didn't think to order it when I got my meal. But the food was outstanding, the staff was really helpful and friendly (they gave some suggestions for their popular items), and the food was really fresh tasty. I'm going back to try some of the Greek beers and of course for another excellent meal.

Gotta just say that we finally stopped in at Yanni's about a month ago - after years and years of driving past it and thinking "hey I should try that place". So happy we did because we have become big fans of the gyros they make. So good. They do tend to go a little heavy on the sauce, but they'll modify it as you wish. Also I tried the garlic feta fries and they were not too good. Stick to the original gyro and you can't go wrong!

Wow! Why did I ever go to Daphne's? I had the Greek Hamburger after a nice workout at 24 hour just next door. Delicious! The highlights- the perfect bread (which I deem 50% of the importance of the whole burger) and the feta cheese. If you thought I may not be worthy enough to write a review seeing as how I had the hamburger... My girlfriend had the chicken gyro which I had some of, too. Delicious! The chicken was so flavorful and tender. I can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu!

I work out at 24 Hour Fitness in Martinez as often as I can, especially during the rainy dark season. After lifting the other day, I wanted to do some cardio but my blood sugar was low. I really wanted to keep working out so I decided to try Yanni's next door, even though I'm not a big fan of Greek food. Anyways, I was happy to see the menu posted on one of those old time diner boards, definetely not a yuppie place. I ordered a gyro and it was ready in 2 minutes. Damn good. The meat was tender, salty, and instantly addicting. The tzatziki sauce was tangy and good and the bread very moist, not like a lot of pita type breads that are DRY. I think it was $7, it was filling and I got to do my hour of cardio. I'm sure the gyro cancelled out the workout, but it was worth it.

It is tough to come across a place that satisfied me the way Yanni's did. The classic gyro left me feeling full while at the same time not weighing me down. I have not had the pleasure of feeling that way after a meal in ages. I definitely will return but most likely on a warmer day so i can enjoy the out door seating (not much room inside).

Perfect for a dose of Greek food. Clean place, friendly staff, and fair-priced items. Falafel and Gyros were both excellent. Horatiki salad was a bit plain, but had a very generous portion of feta. Chicken skewer was very tasty. Overall, this is the best flavored Greek food I've found in the Bay Area, even though it's just a small little spot in a plaza.

I've never had food or service that was bad from here, it has always been great! I work out at the 24 hour fitness next door and this is sometimes my dinner treat after a long, hard workout. One of those spots that i'm inclined to keep to myself, but I must stay true to the Yelpers who so often help me out. The place itself is unremarkable, just a little shop of sorts with a few seats inside and out. The food, however, is oh so good. Specifically, the gyros sandos are where it's at. Repeat customers here.

As the clock ticks closer to 12 every day at work, I start thinking of all these different possibilities for lunch. Then leave it someone at the office to mention Yanni's, and I can't get my mind off that gyro goodness. I don't know if there's a bigger compliment than "Yanni's, you make me fat." Not that the food's unhealthy... it's just that they serve such big portions, and I helplessly become a slave to my taste buds which demand I eat it all. Great, now I'm getting hungry for Yanni's at 1 AM. I feel a little insane for eating Yanni's so often, but then I eat it, and I realize that everyone else must be insane for not doing the same!

I'll start off by saying I don't know much about Greek food as I'd like to know. With that said, I stopped by this spot over the weekend to try them out. It's kinda hard to notice it on the street at first, but you'll know when you see it. The place is not too big. They only have maybe 10 tables inside and another 2 tables outside. There was a group of maybe 4 or 5 people sitting and waiting for their food to arrive. I grabbed a menu and looked at their vegetarian options. I decided to try their vegetarian platter which consisted of hummus, tzantziki, dolmades, pita, and 3 falafel balls. I've never had dolmades before, so it was a pretty interesting taste. It's basically rice in a grape-leaf wrap. The falafel was good especially with the hummus and pita. I also ordered the veggie gyro. Wow, this was pretty damn good. It had cucumber, tzantziki sauce, tomatoes, and I don't even know what else but I know it was good! I'll probably get it again if (more like when) I return. You can order it as a combo with your choice of fries or rice, but I opted to go a la carte. The staff was very friendly, and the dude made sure to come outside and call me when my food was done since I was waiting outside. Awesome.

I love this place!! My favorite is the chicken gyro with french fries. DELICIOUS. I came here with friends and we all loved this place. The owners are nice, the place is clean and the food is awesome. The food portions are large, so come hungry! The fountain soda didn't have the right ratio of carbonation to syrup, but other than that it is a great place for casual dining. Will definitely by going back!

This place is great, and a very good value. I've been meaning to try it for a years. Now that I have I plan on coming here for Greek food on a regular basis. Highly recommended! This place is 20 times better than Daphne's Greek Cafe which is total fast-food garbage. I reconsidered my review and bumped it up to 5 stars. It is the best Greek food in the area. (I unfairly compared Yanni's to the Mediterranean before which isn't strictly Greek food)

Great little place and I love the sign that has the hours posted on the door.."never on Sunday!" Friendly staff. Clean premises. The Gyros are great and on the large side. The Spanitopika is large as well and quite good so 2 non starving persons could easily split both these and make a good meal. Between this place and the one next to the Theater in Orinda 2 good choices in Central CoCo

    Delicious gyros...give 'em a try!

Yum yum YUM! I decided to try this place out after reading the great reviews here on Yelp, and because I love Greek food. The woman at the counter (I see her almost everytime I go there!) is so sweet! She always remembers us and is patient when I'm being indecisive. Indecisiveness happens when everything on the menu is delicious! Nice big portions that really fill you up and all of the food is really fresh. Crunchy lettuce, warm rice, hot gyros. MMM. While this isn't a place to eat in at, because it's so tiny inside and only has two small tables, it's a great take-out place and when I'm going to eat out, I always think of Yanni's first. This is making me hungry just thinking about it!

I'll keep it brief, but Yannis is now our go to place for greek. Parking's a little tight and it's usually pretty busy, so seating can be a close call. And yes, the Gyro's are the best I've had. Great Rice too.

My husband and I stumbled upon this place a year or so ago after perusing our Entertainment Coupon book. Man, was I glad we did. We've dined in and taken our food to go and our classic gyros are always perfect. Mmm.... We haven't ventured out from the classic gyro yet, it's just so good! I've had the fried zucchini side before and those were also yummy. The staff there are always so friendly. I actually have their phone number programmed in my phone. I call as I'm leaving my house and I'm there as soon as it's done. Check this place out today!

Gyros and Falafel here are generously portioned. The pita bread is deliciously grilled. Great yogurt and honey for dessert. The staff is always friendly and helpful.

Love this place! Rob and I went for a nice "date" dinner, we absolutely love the food. People who run the cafe are very friendly. Can't wait to bring the kids there. It was fun!

I've heard that Daphne's is the Mickey D's of the greek food world. I've been to Daphne's and its not too shabby. So like a week or so ago, I got a social living deal on this place and thought I'd give real greek food a try. The BF and I went this past weekend to try Yanni's out. The food is great! We both got the gyro plates not realizing how much food they gave you. ( so we know for next time to only order one plate. But then maybe I can try the baklava!) The people there were super nice and the food came quickly. Before we even left the parking lot, we decided we'll be back.

AMAAAAZING gyros (classic (beef/lamb), chicken, steak?, falafel, maybe others...). Best gyro east of the Caldecott. Fluffy and fresh pita with the perfect ratio of meat:tzatziki:tomatoes:onions. I was not fully satisfied with the fries (hence the missing star) - but I am willing to say I may have caught them on a bad day. Typically I am a stickler for needing fries with my gyros - but this place could take the fries off the menu and the gyro would still be good enough on its own to keep me coming back! Service was fast, friendly, and polite. Location is TINY with only a handful of tables inside and out.

  • LM M.

Damn, that was a good gyro! Meaty and tasty and dripping all over the place. Don't bother me. I'm eating.

Overall good tasting food. I usually get the chicken or pork skewers. This place is very convenient from where I work. Haven't eaten there in a while due to me slimming down for the summer.

I must update my review and give it a 5 now. I think I was a bit harsh about the prices the last time around. Overall, the food is just amazing and the owner is so friendly and nice! If you're looking for a lunch time treat, go here. Definitely! I don't eat meat but my co-workers say the traditional gyro is perfect!

Fresh, flavourful gyro every time. Perfectly crispy fries. Spicy double meat rocks!

We tried Yanni's because of a Living Social coupon and the reviews from Yelp. It was wonderful. The food was delicious!! The owner's (I'm assuming) were very nice, very helpful and made our lunch a very pleasant experience. We took some friends there that live in the Martinez area (they've only lived here a few months) and they say they've found a new favorite place! Thank you Yelpers and thank you to Yanni's for the great lunch!! We don't live in the area but will be back! =)

  • janine h.

This place is great. Quick, friendly service with a smile, and amazing falafel gyros! The place is a little small to bring the family, but makes a perfect stop on the way home to grab dinner on the go. And don't forget to a baclava for dessert!

Best Greek Burger in the world! Husband adores the gyro meat...says it's the best he's ever tasted. Staff is super friendly and quick! Prices are super reasonable!

Just had another taste of the scrumptious gyro yesterday and it was divine! The toasty pita was overflowing with mouth-watering, savory gyro meat, perfectly topped with onion, tomato, and yogurt sauce! The gyros were freshly made after we ordered. But we didn't have to wait long at all to have the gyro goodness, because they served us so quickly! And then once we got our food all 3 of us stopped our conversation to enjoy every yummy bite!

  • Alyson A.

Their Gyros are Amazing! Best Greek food in the Bay Area - hands down!

  • Nate B.

Went there for a late lunch on a Monday and was impressed not only with the speed, but the quality of everything in what is normally a dead-time for the industry (3PM). The wife (who used to work in a Greek resturaunt (Symposium in Davis)) was also happy with everything we had and the portion size was perfect for two starving people who hadn't eaten since breakfast. We got the large plate with Gyro meat, hummus, tomato/feta and pita, a side of falaffel and a couple drinks for about $23. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

  • Pammy C.

Martinez is the new Petaluma - lately, I'm there all the time. Yanni's is great, though, and does its part to make the trip worthwhile. Great food, quick, cheap, and one of the cute Greek boys jumped up from his own lunch to take my plate to the trash for me when I was finished. Extra star for that.

Spanikopita = heaven! I can't wait to go again!!

  • A D.

I have to say this place was yummy! I am a huge fan of Mediterranean food, but it is hard to find a authentic and reasonable priced place. My boyfriend and I got the veggie plate, the falafel was really good! and the bread is delicious. He got the gyro which was a good size with lots of rice. The rice was just okay, but everything else was worth the drive. I will totally be going back as often as I can find a excuse to drive out there.

  • Alan A.

This place is awesome. A small, hole in the wall kind of establishment, where the food is excellent. I'm always here for the gyros because they are always tasty and well put together. My wife gets the kebabs and she loves them. If I didn't have to cross a bridge, I could definitely eat here once a week.

  • Anne M.

This place is fantastic! What a hidden gem. Great prices, great food, great service. The classic pita sandwich includes beef and lamb and the meat is delicious. The pita bread is excellent. Lots of crisp lettuce give the sandwich that nice crunch. The plates come with a large salad with pepperoncinis, tomatoes and calamata olives and a side of rice or fries. Go for the fries - they're excellent. Also had the falafel sandwich. Falafels are really good - homemade with the right amount of spices. Great place for a casual, quick and awesome bite to eat.

Yanni's is a must go! My fiance and I always checked it out after we worked out at the 24 Hr. fitness next door and we finally stopped in. The food is fresh and delicious! I can not say enough good things. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

  • Sam K.

I found this little gem after an hour on the treadmill =/ ( it's next door to my 24 hour fitness) Yeah, yeah, yeah..The food was super yummy and the guys behind the counter were super eager to get the food going. They were all smiles and I love to support small local places! I will be back!

My girlfriend and I decided to try our Yanni's because we were in the area and we were so excited when we saw what a great menu they had. We were in the mood for a Gyro and were so please with the portion and flavor. The tomato's on her plate looked and tasted like they were just picked from their garden. When we asked if they shopped locally, one of the owners explained that they shop directly at a local farm. You just can not get any fresher than this place. I will be back for sure. Thanks for the great service and food.

  • Steve M.

I'm very happy that I stopped in for lunch. Because I've been to the middle east before, I respect such preparation. you bet I had a falafel. The pity was fresh, lots of fresh veggies and humus. Also I had a gyro and wasn't expecting all the meat that came with it, but I'll take it, because I had such an appetite, I welcome the generosity. This is great place to eat if you are or not familiar with mediterranean dishes.

  • Christine W.

Soo yummy! I'm Egyptian and, around Pleasant Hill, this is the cheapest and closest you can get to Egyptian food. When I get homesick, I come here and order the Macaroni Bechamel or whatever they call it on the menu...it's a pasta bake with bechamel sauce...to die for! Very creamy and filling, and comes with a salad. I also usually order the stuffed grape leaves and tsatsiki for dipping, and as a salad dressing. Family owned and small, with very friendly owners. Paper plates. Definitely a ton of food...come for lunch and take home dinner!

  • colleen r.

I have had the pleasure of eating at Yanni's for about a month and a half now, and I look forward to getting my takeout every week. I seem to always gravitate to the lamb chops which are very tasty (where can you even get these anyway?). My friend usually gets the falaffel gyro which she raves about. I am hooked on this place!! Exceedingly friendly owner and staff make this place a pleasure to dine at or to get take out as well. It is great to see a nice, friendly, neighborhood place that serves good homecooked food. It is a welcome change from the usual burger places that abound.

    (5)
  • M E.

Not your typical chain joint. Yanni's gyros are healthy portions and are very good. I've introduced several friends to this place and after trying the gyro once their hooked. I've had the dolmades...just rice, no beef. Staff is very friendly. Closer to a 4 then a 3. Definitely worth trying.

  • Weltall K.

The Gyros here are the best I've had in a looooong time. Their Pita Bread is FANTASTIC, they grill it so it just gets freaking delicious. Their Hummus is amazing, and their Moussaka is great too. Truly a gem!

  • Brandon G.

We live right down the street from Yanni's and have been there numerous times. Each visit has been 5 stars, never disappointed. All the rave reviews are accurate. We have always eaten the gyros, spanakopita (SP?), etc....basically what I think of as traditional Greek food. However, on a whim my wife and I tried their burgers one time.....holy smokes, they are awesome! I recommend the Greek burger. Quite frankly, like many other people, you get used to fast food burgers and anything that is significantly better is memorable. These burgers weren't just memorable, they were outstanding, one of the best burgers I have ever had. Really a pleasant surprise to find they not only do great Greek food but cook a damn good burger as well. Highly recommend Yanni's, both for the traditional Greek food and believe it or not the burgers too!

  • Becky L.

Mediterranean/Greek food is my FAVE...so when I found this place on Yelp I had ta try it out. Ok, let me get the cons out of the way...this place is really tiny (about 3 tables inside, a couple outside). & I guess there is lack of storage space inside becuase while waiting for my food I noticed containers of spices/herbs out in the open. AND there was one more thing that was visible & probably shouldn't have been...a microwave (which I think was used to heat up my friend's food). BUT, to me those are minor details, because the food was AWESOME! I had the gyro pita. The tzatziki was good & the gyros were very tasty! My friend was REALLY hungry & ordered the pastitsio plate, AND some fried zucchini & spanakopita (spinach pie). I did sample it all (only for the sake of my review...lol). The lemon rice was good & the pastitsio had a nice flavor (think it was the nutmeg in the bechamel). The fried zucchini was good, but I asked the lady working there what they used for the coating. She said cornmeal, but the co. accidently sent her a coarser grain then they normally use, so it's usually done w/ a finer one (that'd def. make it even better). The spanakopita was nice...but it was one huge piece. I usually like individual, smaller servings better so the phyllo doesn't flake all over the place. But I think one of the best things about this place was the service. The lady working there, cooking at a crazy pace, was SO warm & sweet. That alone makes me wanna go back. & I'm all for keeping a mom & pop shop in business!

Fantastic food! Fresh, filling and so tasting! Bountiful gyros and rich, creamy honey yogurt! Yummy salads, too! Reminded me of the authentic stuff that I had in Greece. Excellent staff, very warm and they let you sample before you commit!!!! I love this place!

  • Mani R.

Yeah for Yanni's! I drove out to Martinez to meet a friend for lunch and decided to go here based on the Yelp reviews. The lamb and beef gyro was super HUGE, delicious and I ate the whole thing! It was little heavy on the tzatziki sauce so next time I'll ask for it on the side because it is not complete without this savory sauce. We also ordered a side of pita and hummus. The pita bread was warm and and hummus can you say to die for? We didn't finish it because we were stuffed from the gyro's. I bought a baklava to go and though I finally got to it a few hours later it was still crisp and tasty. I will definitely visit Yanni's again when the Greek mood hits me.

  • Li-Ann V.

I gave this place 5 stars based on their Gyro's alone. My fiance and I have been in there a few times over the past few months, and without fail have ordered gyro's. They are so, so good. The pita bread it's wrapped in is to die for and the lamb is perfectly cooked - ALL THE TIME. We typically get a plate which includes a Greek salad and Lemon rice with the gyro. We definitely leave there more than satisfied with our meals. The staff there is great, super friendly and always so pleasant. I'm convinced that all the other food they have there is just as good, but I can't see myself straying from their gyro's. Yes, it's THAT good. A must try!

    (5)
  • Terri A.

Absolutely delightful! Very casual and great for takeout. The chicken pita is awesome; my husband loves the lamb. Make sure you order the hummas which is the best. Very friendly place.

  • Norm P.

I finally made it out here with Chris, LM and Rich. The food here is really great. The service was great and the people are really nice. I had a gyro and an order of dolmades on the side. I ordered a falafel to go for my wife. The portions were huge and quite tasty. The gyro held me down and I was satisfied. Unfortunately, I ate her food later that night and it was damn good. Sorry babe, I'll pick up something for you again. I'll be coming out here again soon.

  • E K.

This place has great food, even better is that they have great Greek food! After two trips sailing Greek islands, I crave Greek food on a regular basis. The lamb chops are my favorite, and upgrading to a greek salad with it instead of fries is even better. Don't get me wrong, I love most of their stuff, but have a hard time ordering anything other than the lamb chops. The gyros are lovely, especially the steak one. Spanikopita is the best around. The only problem for me is that they are too close to my home, but I'll get over it someday. Give it a try, they have something for everybody and are very friendly folks.

Decent food, but I was't really impressed with the menu.

  • Rich V.

i am now a fan of Yanni's Greek Cafe. the place is a bit small, but there were plenty of tables outside if you don't mind the cold. the owners are super nice and even found time to bus tables for customers while cooking and taking orders. awesome. its also strategically placed next to a 24hr fitness express, to satisfy that post-workout hunger. i had the traditional gyro plate, which came with lemon rice and salad. they took slices off this "meat log" (i think it's a mix of lamb and beef) and put it in pita bread with cream sauce, onions, and other veggies. It was the first time I've eaten a gyro and it was so good i pretty much inhaled it. and to justify my tastebuds i had another gyro at a greek restaurant in sacramento this weekend, but it just didn't compare with what i had at yanni's. i'll be coming back here for sure.

I have now been back to Yannis twice and both times it has been awesome! It seriously taste like home made food. Go and enjoy it. You have nothing to lose

I'll never go back to Daphne's again! Their Gyros are amazing, and the lemon rice is good too. I've driven past this place hundreds of times, I'm glad I finally gave it a try.

  • Alex W.

This is a great place to get authentic gyros at a good price. I have been here twice and I will be back. I haven't had a good Greek food fix since I escaped from New York over 4 years ago, but Yanni's hits the spot.

    (5)
  • Chris P.

Awesome! If you like Daphne's Greek in Pleasant Hill or W.C., or Mediterranean in Concord, or Pomegranate in W.C., and want to return there and enjoy the food again, you may want to avoid this place... Yes, it's that good. And for the price, you actually get far more quality for less money by coming here. I went to Yanni's for the first time about 6 weeks ago after reading a few reviews here. Yelp wins again; Yanni's is a gem of a place to find in Martinez! Their pitas are delicious and freshly made, the hummus is literally the best I've ever had, I love their traditional gyro, my wife thinks the steak gyro is incredible, and they also have great falafels and other Greek specialties (Their baklava! is delicious). I have taken many friends and family members here since I first came, and every one of us is unanimous on this place being hands-down the best Greek in the area. Gyros cost about 7 bucks, and around $10 with a salad and rice or fries. You get a ton of food for the money. In fact, splitting a gyro plate is probably plenty of food for the typical couple. Casual lunch/dinner for two about $20. Very limited seating inside so I would recommend ordering take-out, or sitting outside on a nice day. The inside very much has the feel of a little burger shop. They are closed on Sundays.

    (5)
  • Nancy S.

The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is that I would love to see a little more variety on the menu. That being said, the gyros are very good. Packed with meat. Very fresh flatbread. Tasty, quick, and good value for the money. The owners are friendly. I felt like a regular on my first visit. I am delighted to have a new place in the area for a great quick bite.

    (4)
  • Laura C.

This place is small so it is probably best to order take out. The pitas were tiny and the meat wasn't that great. The service was good and my food was ready in 10 minutes from when I ordered. If you are looking for real and authentic greek food, it is definitely worth the drive to walnut creek's Pomegranate.

    (2)
  • Ingrid Y.

husband bought me a fallafel and i absolutely fell in love with the food. the meat is not too salty, the bread is fresh, chewy, the tomatoes tasted like tomatoes and the onions were fresh and tasty. their yogurt was to die for and they are really fast. definitely a place you want to stay open for the locals for a long long time! i am definitely a fan.

  • Richard C.

Picked up some takeout from here on Friday after my original plan for dinner went south (smelly defrosted chicken). Checked out their menu online so that we could figure out what they had and then drove down to order. We got a couple of gyro's, some dolmas, hummus with pita, a side of lemon rice and a side of gyro meat for the kids. The portions were very generous and super tasty. The lemon rice was very good and I would recommend trying some. Hmm, grilled pita... I don't have anything negative to say about this place, fast, good food and reasonable. I've been to Daphne's downtown a couple of years ago and never again. Only Yanni's for me. Ok, getting hungry thinking about the gyro again... Did I mention that the tzatziki is spectacular...

I'm still searching for good Greek food. After reading the reviews I headed out to Yanni's for dinner tonight. The first thing that hit me when I walked in the door was the smell of grease. I thought I walked onto a greasy burger joint. I didn't let that stop me...I walked right up and ordered off the greasy menu board. I had the Gyro plate, and an order of hummus. I thought the Gyro was pretty good...a lot of meat. The sauce lacked flavor, might have needed some garlic. The Gyro also had onions and tomatoes, and the pita was good and hot. The hummus was good, but the portion was way to small...should be doubled in my opinion. As far as the "plate" part of my meal...rice and a salad. Not much to say about the rice...rice is rice, nothing special. The salad...yuck. Lettuce, tomatoes, and a couple olives. Mostly lettuce, and no real dressing to speak of. I left it on my plate. Let's talk about the dinning area...or lack there of. 3 tables that seat 2, and 1 table that seats 4...all the tables are approximately a foot foot apart...so don't plan to have a private conversation. Over-all I didn't feel like it was clean...it might be because the grease smell was so overpowering. I give it 2 stars because there was a lot of good meat in my Gyro. I won't be going back.

EXCELLENT GREEK FOOD. Love the vegetarian Gyro, lemon rice and green salad. The greek yogurt is sooo tasty. Everything tastes super fresh and made to order--and the owners are very nice and friendly. This is one of my new favorites. Check it out you won't be disappointed!!!

I love greek food. This is way better then Daphene's or whatever its called. The bread in the gyro's are so good as is the yogurt. Be careful when you eat it though because it can get messy! The staff were very helpful explaining everything on the menu to help us to figure out what we wanted to get. I will be on a return visit because it is right next door to my gym. Oh no goodbye all the calories I just burned off!

I came with my mom one day because I love gyros and my world was rocked. I have never tasted anything so good. I was seeing brighter colors satifying myself with the heaping helpings that Yanni's has. I have been there many more times and whenever I try something else it is just as good as the item I had the last time. The service is great. I got my food really fast the lady taking the orders might be one of the nicest people I have ever met. Truly a wonderful experiece. I have taken every friend I have here and even some of their mothers to give as much business to this place that has changed my pallet forever for the better.

  • Andrew C.

First thing to know, its small, really small inside, and if its cold outside, every time the door opens, its cold inside too. That being said, I'm sure that on warm days it pleasant as there are a few outside tables as well. Does seem much more like a take out place though. So you order at the counter and they'll bring you the food. I had the gyro plate, which was basically a gyro with rice and a salad. The rice and salad were fine, nothing too special but nothing wrong with them either. The gyro itself had too much meat in it and the meat was cut too thick. The meat is supposed to be cut thin and not piled so high that you can't eat it easily. Also, the tzatziki (yogurt) sauce was just that, yogurt, without much else, i.e., garlic, lemon, dill, cucumber which gives it more taste and texture. I've only been here once and I will likely try it again but its not someplace I have to go back to again. I think three stars is just right.

had a Gyro and it was great very filling i thought it would never end , lemon rice very good , they have a meat mac and cheese thing i want to try next time . best tahini sauce ever , so puts down crappy dahne's .

Yanni's is a block away from my house, so I pass it everyday. I finally stopped one day and tried it, had the chicken pita. Since I live so close, it was still very fresh and warm when I got home and bit in. It's definitely going to be added to local take-out places. And if you feel guilty after you eat, then there's a 24hr Fitness next door.

    (4)
  • Lisa H.

WE LOVE YANNI'S!!!! My family really likes authentic Mediterranian food (sorry Daphne's) and my husband is a bit of a Gyros snob and he loves the place and would eat there everyday. I usually get the falafel, YUM! And our daughters love the chicken skewers. The owner is super nice, and I like the warm fuzzy feeling from patronizing our local mom and pop businesses, especially when they ROCK!

Solid place in East Bay. Had dinner with a friend who is a vegetarian. He liked it a lot stating that the pita tasted "fresh" and not sitting around all day or store bought. The vegetables were fresh - Yogurt sauce was good. I had the gyros plate and it was good with a side of fries - yum. Not the best greek food I've had but defintely a great choice if you are craving Greek food in the middle of East Bay. Staff was very friendly and helpful as well. Would go back. There is good parking as well.

After reading the reviews on Yelp and of course loving Greek food I decided to give Yanni's a try and had them cater our business meeting for 17 people. The owner was amazing. She was very helpful and came up with lunch items that would feed our fellow vegetarians and carnivores. The food was incredible- you can taste the love that's for sure. All my coworkers who love Greek Food had nothing but great things to say. I will definitely order our next catered event from Yanni's.

The most delicious gyro I have ever tasted. Order the vegetarian gyro (hold the feta) and you will be hooked! I could eat it for lunch and dinner every single day! My 5 year old and 6 year old love it too. And I love that they're eating all of those healthy red bell peppers, onions and zuchini! YUM!

I seriously love this place with all my heart. I wouldn't recommend it for an evening out, but for takeout, it can't be beat!

I took wife and friend to this sandwich shop based on Yelp Stars...Don't know what it was like on other days but on this day...it left much to be desired. Food was dry, not tasty and boring.

This has become one of our regular takeout places. My daughter and I are vegetarian, so we LOVE the veggie gyros! I crave them quite often, actually. Very fresh sides on the plates, too. Yummy rice and a very nice salad with a light vinaigrette. Tons of food! Martinez really needed a place like this.

I adore Yanni's. The most authentic greek cafe I have eaten at since I lived in SoCal. I have been waiting for years and finally the East Bay has something really Greek, not Turkish or the vague "Mediterranean," but actually Greek. (Flora's Gyros are ok but I prefer not to have hot dogs on my greek menu). The Moussaka is freshly made and absolutely wonderful - especially on a cold night (along with the Avgolemono soup - very flavorful). Also, I really enjoy their Gyros, spanakopita etc - everything is wonderful. Many times I come in and Vula is stretching out the phyllo across a new tray of Spanakopita or Baklava so you know it is fresh. The prices are reasonable - not much more than fast food and you get wonderful freshly made food. The location isn't impressive (strip mall) but it's clean and efficient and I highly recommend it. Now if I could only convince them to serve grilled Octopodaki and Galaktoboureko... P.S. This place is not for someone who is a Daphne's fan and thinks that is real greek food.
