Unbelievable. Livermore is actually getting another restaurant that stretches out past the US border. This place is great. Saying Mediterranean cuisine is like saying American cuisine; pretty broad and far-reaching. Benjamin has done an excellent job in putting together a menu that is approachable for unfamiliar palates while covering much of the diversity in cuisine. I've had the chicken stew from the south of France, to the falafel, to the split pea soup, which is much much different than any other I've had. And...lamb in Livermore? How great is that? And what's not to love about a place with a big loaf of gyro spinning on the autodoner? Service is fantastic, excellent beer and wine options drawn from the craft and artisanal realm, and cider to boot. I am extremely hopeful that the Vine Theater will consider offering selections from the Casbah as well as from the Zephyr...(hint, hint).

This is a regular spot for my husband and I as we like to eat interesting vegetarian food as much as possible. Service is exceptional and friendly. Everything we've had has been fresh and delicious. Love that the owner/chef? came out to discuss my son's order with him to make sure he would like the seasonings. Only recommendation is they beef up their wine list a bit.

I've eaten here 2 times in the last week and I love everything about it. The service is very good, can be a little slow due to their TLC and making everything from scratch...but good things come to those who wait. My favorite, so far, is the Lamb Gyro. I love the little burnt ends so I'm going to ask for extra burnt next time. For u wine lovers...corking fee is $10 and only $5 for local wines! ;-) It is a small place but that is why it's a great place. The Owner is very tentative and is in touch with everyone's satisfaction. Good price, service, quality, portions and atmosphere makes Casbah my favorite Mediterranean destination. Btw, if it's too crowded...try an order to go. I've seen people come in for take out so I suggest you call in first if u don't want to wait too long.

This was our first visit to Casbah - and we were soooo happy with our experience! Hubby & I have been following a vegan diet for the past 18 months - and I have to say, the biggest challenge is following a restaurant with great tasting vegan food...something besides a salad! :) We had some lovely (warm) pita bread with tasty, creamy hummus - then our stews arrived. The Fesenijan stew and the Ghormeh Sabzi stew are both served with soy meatballs, Persian basmati rice and their own yummy sauces. I so love Mediterranean spices... Let's hear it for warm vegan food on a cloudy, windy day! BTW: for all you meat-eaters out there - there's a huge yummy-looking list for you too. ;) They offer local wines -- AND - we noticed that they offer several beers on tap - including an Altamont handle! Nice! The service was very attentive and friendly - and more than happy to talk to us about their food. It's a very welcoming feeling... We will definitely be back. It turns out that there are still several vegan dishes to try! I hope that Casbah will be here for many years to come.

What I like most about Casbah is the fact that they offer an extensive vegan & vegetarian menue as well as local wines. The service is also awesome. We had first class service from Ariane, who worked the crowded place on a Saturday night efficiently with ease and a smile. We will definetely be back!

We enjoyed lunch here after shopping. I had the grilled chicken. It was seasoned nice and tasty. It was the perfect healthy lunch to rev me up for the second half of the afternoon. Filled to my stomach, wine tasting here I went.

I ordered the combination platter which had the Persian kabob, gyros, and chicken. It was so delicious. Actually it had a lot of meat on it, and everything was bursting with flavor. I didn't eat any breakfast that day, so the portion was perfect and kept me full until dinner.

This a nice upscale cafe. Tiled tables, cozy atmosphere, and a varied menu. We went for the lamb stew and the chicken fesanjan and both were delicious. I also ordered veggies on the side and they were very fresh. Plus perfect Turkish coffee with baklava and bread pudding for dessert. I look forward to coming here again (or take-out!) PS: our server was great - Ariane was pleasant, energetic, and very courteous. Our side order was delayed and she didn't charge for it.

I went here with my cousin for lunch (his recommendation). The service was good, and the food was great! I had the kabob combination and I loved every bite of it! We also had spanakopita. It tasted very fresh and had great flavors. I will come back when in the area!

Fresh, fusion, organic, made from scratch. Great ambiance, indoor and outdoor seating with lovely decor. The spices in the food were incredible. From the warm pita and hummus they brought to the table, to the turkish coffee following the dessert- everything I tasted was delicious. They offer an amazing selection of yummy dishes for meat eaters, with huge Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten-Free and Dairy-Free choices as well. They will even make everything special if you have special restrictions in your diet. They even have dairy free gluten free vegan desserts, like a delicious Rice Pudding with Rosewater that are mouthwatering and fabulous. The servers are friendly and take their time explaining the menu, working out what are good choices for your palate and creating a really custom, intimate dining experience for me. Even worked with kids to get a choice that they loved. Really nice place.

Casbah is at various farmers marekt as "casbah grilled sandwiches" menu: ($5): gyros, souvaki, dolma, chicken pita, falafel, steak sandwich locale: jack london sq. f.m. oakland sampling: grilled chicken pita sandwich(5) with sour cream & tomato, -lots of food and filling. no exotic taste, just generic. foodnotes: -fast, friendly service -no lines -a bargain cheapie.

This place is our FAVORITE Friday evening spot, before we go to the Vine. The Mirza, with pita - such a simple dish - is memorable. And we're hooked on the gyros - the nights we're hungry, that's what we get. The starters at Casbah are so filling, we've taken a couple into the Vine, to go with a glass of vino from the theater's bar. Simple pleasures!! One evening, there was a singer at Casbah. Can't recall her name, but she was captivating enough for us to skip the movie!! There's just a few restaurants that get under your skin the way Casbah's done with us. They truly deserve 5 stars.

Went back a couple nights ago and , no surprise, here, it was excellent as usual! My bf and I split an appetizer spanky-pita again, holy crap, still fantastic! I had the couscous lentil something or other. I can never remember the exact name if these amazing dishes. We had the same waiter again, too, and this time, I got his name: Josh! Josh McGosh! Okay, I don't think that's really his last name, but he deserves a fun nickname like that. Before we even walked into the door, Josh welcomed us back with a nice, wholesome smile on his face! I don't think I have ever had such great service anywhere before! Josh really knows how to treat his patrons. H e treats us like we're old friends and we've never met him before our first time at Casbah. Even if the food were to go way downhill, which is HIGHLY doubtful, I think I'd still come back just for Josh's service because he is that good!

Casbah is our favorite restaurant in Livermore. We are vegetarians leaning towards veganism when we can and this is one of the places we're comfortable getting great tasting food that fits this requirement. It's also very nice that it's a friendly, family-run restaurant. The owner, Benjamin Jafari, is usually at the restaurant working his butt off. The waitresses have always been very good to us. We really love all their eggplant based dishes. I can't recommend their ice cream desserts highly enough.

  • Karen Z.

Delicious food and really friendly, genuine service! I had the lamb shank, my dining partner had the combination kebab plate. We also shared the spanakopita. All delicious, and I look forward to going back!

We like Mediterranean food A LOT. We don't go without humus in our fridge and Greece is on the travel bucket list. Casbah is one of our favorite places to go for lunch. We start with the warm pita and mirza or humus. The lamb chops, chicken stir fry and kabobs are good -thus the 4 star rating. Only qualm are the falafels -they are dry, hard and not very tasty. Pretty disappointing. Have had my share of falafels -one of my favs can be found in the south-bay. Well the falafels haven't deterred us from coming back -everything else we've tried, we've liked.

i came to this place last year. the food was mediocre, maybe it was a bad day. When i saw the cooks put kebabs on the flat top vs the charbroil i was alarmed. When i got my plate it didnt smell like a kebab it had absolutely no char taste, that was a total disappointment it was like pan fried meat. i wonder if the restaurant still does that or does anybody just not know the difference, correct me if i'm wrong

Ordered gyros. It tasted good, but we didn't like having to wrap up our own gyros lol wouldn't come back for this reason.

Absolutely spot on! Great local (and international) beer selections on tap. Friendly, attentive staff. Cool atmosphere (Sunday night live entertainment). Oh and the food was impressive too :) My 17 yr old son, 15yr old daughter and even 13yr old son said "we should come back here again!" What more can I say? We had to wait 15-20 mins for a table ... but staff made that clear up front and offered us space at the bar while we waited. It was WELL worth the wait. Entree food was seasoned to perfection ... I had grilled Lamb Chops, others had Gyros, Eggplant Stew, Mediterranean Pasta, Mediterranean Stir Fry and Ghormeh Sabzi and Persian Sautee. We were all happy with our dishes and I sampled several others just to make sure :) Dessert was great too ... we sampled Baklava, 3 ice cream flavors (including rose/rice) and chocolate Mousse ... all of them delicious. All in all a great evening !!

this restaurant had a food stand at the los altos rotary sponsored open air art show. i ordered the chicken souvlaki pita ($6), which was very tasty. they gave me a good amount of chicken and veggies on the pita, and just a little bit of yogourt sauce, as i requested. i wish the chicken didn't have as much skin on it b/c it was a bit tough to chew. but overall, i really enjoyed my pita and it was very filling. the staff was very friendly.

I had been wanting to try Casbah but was waiting for a coupon. Thanks to one of the web sites I've signed up for that sends daily deals, I was able to purchase $20 in food and drinks for $10. My first impression of Casbah was great: The certificate I bought stated that it could be used for dine-in only, but having two small children, this was not an appealing option. I called the restaurant and they were happy to let me enjoy my food as a to-go order. I ended up ordering the Appetizer Platter ($9.95) and my hubby got the Lamb Gyro ($9.95). First off, best falafel I've ever had! I enjoyed everything on the platter and was thoroughly stuffed. My hubby's gyro was also delicious and plentiful. I will be back, even without a coupon!

I ducked in here to get out of the rain only to be taken with the incredible sights and aromas. I was looking for something fresh and healthy. The gyros on the spit won out. However, I will be back for the eggplant. Again, it has all been said. It beats any place I have been to in the city or the valley. The portions and service are in direct proportion to the quality. And it is a real value. I am planning on being regular.

Great food, super staff, great location for going to the Vine.. It's all been said. The food is fresh and tasty, good portions, prices are fair. Service is always attentive and genuine. Owner is a very nice man who takes time to talk to you. They serve beer and wine too. Vegan and vegetarian. The eggplant is excellent.

I came across this place while driving through Livermore and was pleasantly surprised by the small cafe. I'm glad we stopped in for lunch. I had the vegetarian stew with rice and they were more than happy to add a protein to it if I had wanted to.

Just went back for my third visit and I didn't realize they had such an extensive vegan and vegitarian menu. The mediterranean stir fry was spectacular and as always the service was friendly and efficient. This is soon becoming my favorite restaurant in Livermore!

I love this place. I have eaten here often because I am a huge fan of the food - most recently came here to entertain a client, I am a realtor in the area. We went on a Saturday night and it was busy but not packed and crazy, we were likely just ahead of the weekend crowd. We had a newer waitress Ariane, she was very friendly and made some suggestions from the menu, we followed her advice on the appetizer and it was delicious. I know that I will be back to enjoy more amazing food and service. I'm glad Livermore finally has a place with Mediterranean food, it needed some yumminess like this!

Lively place for a Sunday Night. I liked that the Gyro came in platter form so that you can get the perfect onion to cucumber to gyro meat to taztiki sauce ratio. This place is a great option for herbivores and omnivores to eat in harmony.

My wife and I have been to several Mediterranean restaurants. It has good food but a little pricey. The restaurant is small. The server was very nice but he did not give the best service. We never had our soda refill. We would return but it would not be our first choice.

Well another restaurant's loss was their (and ours) gain. After finding out La Pupusa House was closed (permanently I think), we found this place nearby. A strange take on Middle-Eastern cuisine, more of a mix of various cultures. But it worked. We were a bit worried that it was too nice of an ambiance for a baby and a five year old, but our waiter was great. We ordered baba ghanooj, hummus, the Moroccan chicken plate and the fesanjan. It was strange that their Persian stews were only on the vegetarian menu (traditionally, these are not vegetarian), but Persian stews being heavily vegetable based lend themselves well to vegetarian tweaks. The fesanjan, which is a pomegranate and walnut based stew, came with vegetarian meatballs very like the malai koofta you can get at Indian places. I thought it was quite good although it didn't quite have the excellent flavor a more traditional fesanjan gets from the incorporation of meat. Still, we liked it very much and the meatballs were really good too. The chicken in the chicken dish was very moist and tender. Rice was the usual tasty Persian style rice, and both appetizer dips were nice (although I would have preferred the hummus to be a little more garlicky and lemony). Great service and good food. We left happy.

I was ready to give them 5 stars at the appetizer. Our server Keyvan made great suggestions. Including the Working Man Belgium Wit Ale. We had the Halloumi cheese appetizer. The Persion pesto, with the lime, really made the dish. I had the beef stuffed eggplant, outstanding. It melted in my mouth. Wanting to eat a little healthier, and forgo the rice, Keyvan suggested the curried vegetables. Just the right amount of curry and all the veggies, cabbage, red bell pepper, carrots, zucchini and brussel sprouts, were perfectly al dente. My GF had the Persian kabob. Outstanding. The yogurt sauce was a great topping. We will definitely come back.

If you're looking for good mediterranean food, please continue looking...Food was bland and very dry. Rice clumpy and looks like they're cooked couple of days ago and warmed up. Service was crappy! They seated 4 of us at one of the smallest table by the bar where you don't even have a space for your own place. Portions are very small. And most disturbing, the place just smells bad. I grew up eating lots of ethnic food especially mediterranean food, and let me tell you, this place just is the opposite of what Persian or Mediterranean food should be like. Very disappointing and want to save future diners their money. Diners stay away...

I had wanted to go here for dinner for quite awhile and finally made it last night before going to the Vine for a movie/date night. It's so nice to have some ethnicity in Livermore, that isn't California cuisine, or Mexican food, and we usually have to wait for a dinner invitation from our Mediterranean/middle eastern/Greek friends or travel to San Francisco, or Berkeley to get our Mediterranean food "fix". It was quiet when we arrived with only a few people sitting in the outside patio area, and only the two of us inside, which was nice. As I sometimes pass by, I've seen that this place can get packed! The restaurant is small, cozy and inviting. It was also very clean and they place nice acoustic guitar music. Our waiter was super attentive, even after the tables began to fill (he was the only server), and very knowledgeable about the menu items as well. Our water was never left unfilled. We had the Moroccan chicken kabob (me), and the Greek Gyros (husband). Let's just say...they didn't have to wash my plate after I was done. The saffron rice was delicious, the chicken very tender and well seasoned, the roasted tomato on the side was awesome and the Tahini very tasty. Though I don't eat baby animals, my husband loved his Gyros and cleaned his plate as well. Both dishes were visually pleasing and well presented. For dessert we had the Baklava, which I adore. It could have had a thicker layer of nuts, but that didn't take away from it's delicious-ness! I was sorry that we had to rush out to the movie, as I would have liked to have stayed a little longer. It's a relaxing atmosphere. Let's just say....I can't wait to go back and try something else, and I may have to do that this weekend! I can't wait...I'm rockin' the Casbah!

I met a friend here for lunch on June 22. The food was wonderful, so I asked for the cooks name. Isaac knows what he is doing. The gyro was better than any I have had in San Jose and I found my self craving the food a week later. The service was perfect. The server was attentive, personable, and professional without hovering. If I lived closer, I would put it on my regular rotation.

  • Charles K.

One of the best gyros I've ever had. The service was very friendly but food takes a bit too long to come out. I wouldn't come here if I'm in a hurry but would definitely go back for the gyros. Will have to try the falafel next time, too! Hopefully it won't take 30min to get our food next time.

Have been here four or five times now and have always been very pleased with both the food and the service. We found this place accidentally a few weeks ago and ever since we have come back more and more frequently. My wife is easily the most particular person I have ever met when it comes to freshness and quality and she has yet to be disappointed. While the food itself is very good, the service is what sets this place apart. We always seem to catch the same waiter (don't know his name) but he adds a very personal touch.

After being hesitant and much prompting, I gave the Casbah a try.to my surprise Fabulous! Our server seated us immediately, was smiley and confident (Areon?) She started us with Hummus, that was fresh, then to the shrimp feta fettuccine and lamb gyros. We will definitely be back!!! Everything was perfect. My only question is why not have the outdoor patio heaters like everyone else on First Street? It would be nice to enjoy outside dining thru the fall!

Ordered the lamb chops, and mint and cucumber water for 2$, lol, I thought I was getting a special drink, it was a cup of water with a few cubes of cucumber in it.

Had dinner here last night. We had the fesenjan and the kebab combo platter. Both were very tasty. My kebab platter had a nice amount of food, with one piece of koobideh, a few large pieces of the Greek chicken kebab and some of the gyro meat, along with rice and yogurt sauce. Very delicious! Of the 3 items, I liked the gyro, the koobideh and then the chicken, in that order. (The chicken was ever so slightly dry.) We were also given a small complimentary salad to start with, with spinach leaves, mandarin oranges, orange peel, slivered almonds and dried cranberries. Unexpected, and very nice! For dessert, we had the date ice cream (husband loved this!) and I had the bread pudding. The pudding was nicely garnished with organic strawberries (per the gentleman who spoke with us, I am assuming the manager), soy whipped cream and lightly drizzled with chocolate sauce. Delicious! The soy whipped cream was new to me - slightly grainy tasting to me, but it was good. The bread pudding itselff was very good - hints of the orange peel that the owner said was in it. All in all, a very nice place, and we will be back to try other menu items!

Ooooh the falafel!!! I have had lots of falafel and this is some of the best in my opinion. The other food that we had here was just OK.

Always delicious. It's a small dining room, but we like it...and it's downtown Livermore..so the location is good for us. We like the Chicken Kabobs, but the other dishes are great too. We typically get it "to go" and they're quick to turn it out for us.

Impressed with all of the gluten-free and vegan options! I've tried the eggplant stew, Greek Salad, Fesenjan, and the hot tea. All have been delicious and reasonably priced. Great service as well!

5 stars for their food; 5 stars for their services. I cannot believe how people would write bad review of Casbah. I first tasted their food during the Summer Farmer's Market in Livermore. It was the smell that first caught my attention. I tasted it and went back to see if they have an restaurant around the area. I was so happy they do. We have been visiting them quite often. Josh was the guy who first took my to-do order over the phone. He was extremely nice and friendly. He even remembers my name after my first pick up. Their staff is always friendly, so it's not fair to say them being rude. They are getting busy for good reasons. They also have nice beer selection on tap. I highly recommend them and hope their business continues to grow.

This has got to be one of my top 3 favorite places to eat in all of Livermore. I have eaten here two dozen or more times and every time the food is fresh and delicious. My absolute favorite thing to get here is the vegetarian platter because it has all my favorite Mediterranean foods. I especially like getting it to go because when I ask for hummus rather than Mirza I get enough to last me almost a week! The people who work here are all very friendly and polite. They really try to make sure you are comfortable and happy. I hope this place stays in Livermore for MANY MANY MANY years! No other Mediterranean place comes close to being as good as this one!

  • Patrick J.

Generally good, but having lived in Albania for 3 years, their "Albanian" byrek is nothing at all like the real thing; it was more like a cheese and cilantro taquito that was way overfried to the point where you couldn't tell anymore if it was phyllo. And if you're gonna be picky about how I say 'gyro' then don't get annoyed with me when I correct you on calling it 'bee-rek' or 'burrEK' (the latter is close to the Albanian for 'underwear'; imagine a Tirana byrektor's reaction if you ever asked for brek with red sauce, he'd laugh himself to death). It's more like 'bürek'.

I've been here three times, and will be back again and again. The service is always very attentive, sweet and just plain fantastic. When I went yesterday with my mom and step dad we felt ignored for a good five minutes but soon one of the staff came out and made a big apology and explanation. I love that! Just tell me that you're super swamped and that our server will be here pronto, and I'm happy. Honesty, man. Why can't everyone do this? The food here is great. I've only had a few things, but I love it all. Oh, the rice! That basmati rice! Wow! I always get the combo since my 18 month old is always with me and we split it. It comes with the Persian Kabob, Gyros and Mediterranean Chicken. I rarely order the same thing at restaurants again and again, but here it's hard not to. I crave these dishes all the time! Yesterday we had the Spanakopita and there's another WOW...so yummy. The prices are what you'd expect. It's not cheap, but you're paying for fresh quality Mediterranean food, and it's certainly not too expensive. Just try to go for lunch, it's significantly cheaper.

It's summertime and I really wanted some Persian ice cream and Casbah was the only thing that popped up in my current vicinity to possibly subdue my cravings. They had a stand at the Livermore Farmers market, but they had no ice cream, so I proceeded to their restaurant on 1st St. Since I was full from trying out all the samples at the farmers market, I ended up sharing a marinated chicken dish that was served with saffron rice and currents. It came recommended by the waiter. It was good. The chicken was moist and flavorful. We were even treated to a pretty lady rocking the Casbah with a little belly dancing. And of course, I got my faludeh and ice cream. It was good.

I came to the Casbah on a Friday night a few weeks ago with a large group. We had the delicious mediterranean platters, greek salad and pretty much every type of meat entree...And it was fabulous! The service was phenomenal, from our waiter, Alex, to the kitchen staff. Alex was very attentive and helpful as we were selecting from the menu. He recommended the cucumber dip, which was my absolute favorite. He even brought us a taste of the baklava, which was to die for! I'll be coming back just as soon as i can!

I was really hoping to like this place - It's cute and downtown with easy parking in the back. But it fell flat. First - the service was good but not great. The young man was enthusiastic and very helpful and definitely trying really hard. Unfortunately, he did forget our appetizer. But he did bring us a little complimentary bread and dip. (but then took it away before we were done). The mint cucumber cooler was really really bad. They put mint syrup in in and it tastes like drinking toothpaste. It would be much better to just leave out the syrup and let the cucumber and fresh mint do what they do best - give a subtle flavor. We got a falafel sandwich and gyro sandwich for the happy hour special, but it came out not put together. I wouldn't mind a much smaller portion - but with the sandwich assembled already. I didn't order a plate for a reason. For those who haven't eaten much falafel in their life - there is a difference between good and bad falafel balls. A big difference. It's like the difference between good and bad burger. Casbah's balls were bland and unbalanced. The outside is hard and there is not enough freshness. If this is the same place that has the falafel at the farmer's market - then I'm not surprised the restaurant has the same terrible food. *Update*: My response to the owner's comments. Hi Benjamin J, Thanks for responding to my review of Casbah. I did want to let you know that I am married to a lifelong vegetarian and have eaten falafal all over the world. I know the difference between a good one and a bad one. I dislike the type you serve. (I actually have a preference for the Lebanese version) I have given them a fair chance and have eaten them 5 or so times. Every time I regret it. I personally only eat meat once a week and just because I enjoy it, doesn't mean my taste buds are accustomed to the typical American diet. I also make the vegetarian food you serve at home from scratch myself (hummus, pita, baba ganoush, etc). Please don't assume in your responses to reviewers that you know their palate and experiences.

Excellent food with lots of flavor. I got the Greek Gyros and my wife got the Falafel Platter. Both were large portions; we were full and still took home leftovers. Our waiter Mo was attentive, friendly, and the service was excellent. It wasn't crowded, which is odd considering how great this place is. We will definitely will be repeat customers!

I just moved from Los Angeles to Livermore. Having grown up in a place where I had access to great food from great cultures I have been a tad homesick for variety. Having driven by Casbah countless times I decided to stop by and pick up lunch today. Yum!! Middle Eastern food is one of my absolute favs and although I'm not a vegetarian I love having a tasty vegetarian option when I want it. The atmosphere is cute and cozy, the staff was warm and welcoming and the vegetarian platter was fantastic! This is my kinda place and I'm looking forward to making it one of my regular spots!

My family and I have been here 5 times in the past 4 months. The first time, we all got a little annoyed because the service was extremely slow. They had one waitress serving the entire waitress that night. However, we returned to casbah about 2 weeks later and enjoyed the entire experience. The food is unbeatable. Be sure to try the greek gyros. This is the first place i have found that serves just lamb gyros(no beef like most gyros) and the flavor is fantastic. The pistachio saffron ice cream is delicious! Also they have many incredible vegetarian options .Try this place if you don't eat meat. Best restaurant in town.

Was really looking forward to liking this place, as there really are no mediterranean / middle-eastern style restaurants in Livermore. But it was a big let down. I ordered the shish kabob for lunch. The meat was as bland as i've ever had...I almost wonder if they forgot to season or marinate it! The sauce was good, but it couldn't compensate for the lack of flavor of the beef. The rice was also quite bland. The roasted tomato was good (best thing on the plate). That being said, the location was good, right on 1st street downtown (but about 2 blocks away from the more congested area of downtown). Looked clean, and a nice little outside dining area on the sidewalk. I'm willing to give it another shot...maybe it was just that dish...

Great food, service and atmosphere. Had the beef kabobs with saffron rice and grilled tomato. Great flavor, moist rice. Wait staff were excellent and they were attentive to my gluten sensitivity. This place is a gem.

Great place for warm delicious stews on a cold day. My wife and I have been waiting all summer for a cold day to try one of their delicious stews. My wife had the eggplant stew and I had the Gormeh Sabazi stew. Delicious and as always the service was great. I can't wait to try the Fesenjan (sweet and tart stew made with walnuts and pomegranates).

First time here and although it was a bit of a rough start, it ended up really well. We walk in on a hot (100degree) Livermore day and the poor guy's air conditioning had just died. Being good sports we go outside, a little too much time passes (probably because they were focused on getting air to work) and so i walk inside and request beer.. PLEASE...it's a hot day. They ran out of hef...urgh... so i order two of the amber...and he brings one to the table and says they ran out. OMG... the poor guy couldn't win us over at this point...i was ready to just finish the beer and walk... but THEN..... he strongly urges me to try this really dark beer that is getting great reviews...i'm hesitent, and honestly a bit irritated, but he is genuine about it and then offers to pay for it. I taste it and it was probably one of the best beers i have had. My husband who doesn't like anything in the IPA family actually ordered one too because he loved it so much. We order our food (kabobs..), very good food, and he proceeds to tell me that my beer is free the rest of the night. He was genuiely upset about the situation and it really felt like everything was going wrong. He made our experience so nice, he made us feel important and the food was wonderful to top it off. We will come back for sure and it's all thanks to the genuine customer service we received. Appreciate it!!

What is happening to my favorite restaurants? I've been telling my sister-in-law about this place for a while. She came up to Livermore so we could pick up our wine shipments from Wente, so I thought it would be a perfect day to introduce her to Casbah. She brought her grandson with her, so we asked for a booster seat. The waitress brought it out and it was filthy - covered with food with some kind of sticky syrupy stuff splashed across it. We placed our food orders and decided to pay the very reasonable corkage fee and enjoy one our bottles of wine. We received our appetizer and waited for the waitress to return to open the wine. Finally, we ate the appetizer as we didn't want it to get cold, but we really wanted to have our wine with it. Finally, my sil went inside and told the waitress we wanted to drink our wine. She came out with some glasses and asked if we had a corkscrew. As we did not bring one, she took the wine into the kitchen, returned with the open bottle and set it on the table. I'm not sure what corkage (or "corking" as the waitress called it) consists of here, but my experience at other restaurants involved a bit more service. Anyway, my poor great nephew waited 45 minutes to get his food. It's a bit difficult for a 4-year-old to wait that long, and I'm not sure why chicken strips would take so long in an almost empty restaurant. We finally got our food and my salad had no dressing on it. The waitress showed up when everyone else had finished eating, and we pointed out that I didn't get to eat because the salad had no dressing. She simply said she had to dress three salads at once, but never apologized. She also didn't take it off the bill. I gave it two stars because the food was good, but I don't think we'll be eating there again.

A friend and I visited Casbah on Easter Sunday, and we will definitely go back soon. The menu is impressive for its variety and appeal; there's a range of Middle Eastern dishes that go well beyond the traditional fare of gyros and kabobs. The ambiance is comfortable and relaxed, the service was friendly, the food was tasty, and the prices are reasonable. I was especially impressed to find lots of gluten-free and vegetarian options on the menu and an interesting wine list. It's clear that the owner has put a lot of care and attention into every detail. We were also intrigued to learn that they have live performances (music, poetry reading, or belly dancing) on most Sunday nights. Our waiter warned us to make a reservation on those evenings.

My husband and I decided to try this place after reading some good reviews on yelp. I have to say we were kind of dissapointed. The place was very small and made me feel a little claustrophobic. My husband ordered the stuffed grape leaves as an appetizer and a gyro. He didn't care for the grape leaves and said that the gyro was just "ok". It was served more like fajitas that you stuff in a pita yourself. I ordered one of the chicken special plates (greek I think). The rice had absolutely no flavor- I was very dissapointed. The chicken was pretty good but nothing to write home about. The best part of the meal was the toasted tomato that came with my dinner and the cute glasses that our waters came in.

These guys are a solid 4 star restaurant. Even though they haven't been open very long, I had heard lots of great things about Casbah from friends and family so I had to try it for myself. Boy I glad that I am. With Casbah, you come for the belly dancing and stay for the food and beverage. Casbah has the traditional Persian Zeresh berries and saffron spice for their rice. Their marinated chicken dishes are fantastic. Even my little brother, who is extremely picky, couldn't get enough of Casbah's combo plate that had chicken, gyro, and I believe lamb with the customary rice pilaf. Casbah's wine selection features some of the best wines in the Livermore Valley along with other non-alcoholic beverages for kids and the tee-teetotalers in your group. The belly dancing is really cool and a rarity for the Tri-Valley. I was told after the dance that we're supposed to tip the belly dancer...next time, I'll do that for sure. The service at Casbah is very attentive. The restroom situation is a bit problematic for me...Casbah shares a restroom outside of the restaurant space so you have to walk outside (sometimes in the rain, like when we went for dinner) and then walk into the backroom area with the restrooms. What is the deal with new commercial developments acting so cheap and trying to squeeze in so many freaking pads. Just spend a little extra to carve out the 10 square foot restroom for goodness sakes! Argh. At any rate, you'll love Casbah and you can thank me after enjoying dinner there!

Been trying to get down her for a minute. Kinda wish I hadn't. Service was fine. Just fine. The lunch seemed like a good value but the food was not very tasty. The rice had some bits and pieces that were undercooked. Annoying! And The kabobs had a weird texture. I am hoping it was their lamb (it's mixed) I ordered the salad thinking it would be the cucumber, tomatoes, refreshing salad. Not so. It had a base of iceberg lettuce. Really?? Then like 2 olives, sliced cucumber and bits of tomatoes. Only thing I enjoyed was the chicken. It was right on. Previous yelper was right- big let down. I'll have to drive to Fremont if I have the itch next time.

Fantastic service. Not-so-great food. I was looking forward to trying Casbah, as I'm a frequent patron of the Vine Cinema nearby, and this seemed like a great pre-movie dining option. The patio was lovely on an early summer evening, and our server was one of the most pleasant and helpful servers ever. I'm sorry I can't recall his name offhand. The food, unfortunately, was not as great. The pita and hummus was a decent appetizer. The pita was warm with smokey grill marks. The hummus had a nice garlicky taste, although it wasn't super smooth--a little chunky. As an entree, I went for the shish kabob, which was billed as marinated filet mignon. The flavor was okay, but the meat was no bueno. It was tough and fatty. I had to eat around sections of gristle, which made me wonder if it was really filet mignon. If so, it was poorly trimmed. And very overpriced. For $15, the dish included just a few pieces of meat, onions, and peppers over a large helping of basmati rice with a small salad-like side of lettuce and chopped tomato. My dining companion enjoyed gyros, Turkish coffee, and baklava for the same price (and even took home leftover gyros). Overall, not a great first impression. Not sure when/if I'll be back... Random quirk: The restaurants' address is handwritten in permanent marker on the back of each wooden patio chair.

Stopped in with the wife on a lazy Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. The interior was nice and inviting, and given the hour, it was uncrowded. The server was very attentive. We started off wit the Mirza, which was excellent. A great blend of freshness and spice. I ordered the Persian Chicken Kabob, she the Chicken Suvlaki, both which we enjoyed. The wife even like the colored rice. Overall a good experience, with good food and service. We will be back!

Excellent veggies, perfect seasoning in the saffron rice and a lamb shank that was to die for. That was my first experience at Casbah. My second, third and fourth all included awesome dishes and prompt service. It gets busy in there on the weekends so make reservations or show up early. Totally worth the wait.

Have come twice since they opened New Year's Day. Was really looking forward to this place since I love this kind of food, and they have parking behind the restaurant. Always a plus downtown. The inside dining I find feels a bit tight, but they do have outside also which I will try when the weather improves. The owner was there both times, and he is very friendly an informative. The service both times was a bit uneven, but I think that is because they had just opened and hadn't worked out the kinks. The first time we went I had the Falafel Platter, and my husband had the Veggie burger. Lot's of food. I think the falafel's were the best I've had, although I wasn't a big fan of the hummus. I have a killer simple recipe that beats everyone else's it seems. (Outside of a greek place in the city). I prefer Tzatziki with my falafel's anyway, and enjoyed dipping them in that sauce instead. My husband really liked his burger, although it wasn't my cup of tea. The next time we went I had MIrza, a very yummy eggplant dish, along with a greek salad, also good, and I tried a yogurt drink. I thought it was going to be something like an Indian Lassi, but it wasn't, and I really didn't like it at all. However my husband had ordered a VERY good refreshing drink that the ower has devised with mint and fruit and is SO good I've already decided this is going to be my drink of choice when the weather turns hot. My husband had the combo platter which had both chicken, lamb and beef kebobs on it. He was impressed that each one had it's own flavor, and were tender and tasty. I tasted the the lamb Shawarma and it was very delish and well seasoned. He also really liked his rice and veggies, and it was a BIG platter of food. Came home with leftovers. We are looking forward to going back and trying other vegetarian dishes, as they are hard to come by when dining out.

Great food. A good place for pretty authentic Persian food. Only complaint, kind of pricey for what you get. Not the best value for the amount of food you receive. At dinner, expect to spend $12.95 per plate and maybe still be a little hungry after.

  • Omar H.

The Moroccan chicken is excellent. Food is very clean too, you can tell when something is smothered in oil and butter, but the food here has no need for that in order to get the taste

Mmmm. We had the Kabob Combo plate and the Persian Sauteed Chicken plate. Both so very good. The meats were flavored and cooked perfectly. The rice was seasoned and buttered very well and not too dry but not at all sticky. Service was fast and friendly. Great little place off 1st street.

Enjoyed the Greek Souvlaki lunch special which came with a broiled chicken kabob (flavored with greek spices) over basmati rice. Seasoning was good, but although it was billed as "broiled to perfection," it was a little on the dry side. Also tried the Fesenjan, a vegetarian dish, with seitan and an interestingly flavored pomegranate sauce. The staff was extremely friendly and actually came out to give us a menu, which drew us into the restaurant. An A+ for customer service.

UPDATE: My wife and I just recently ate at the Casbah (for the third time). And again, still great food, in fact I was so impressed with the consistancy of their product, that I even tipped the Chef. I just love the #2 combo platter with the beef shish-cabobs, and the two different seasoned chicken inclusions (sooo tender). We try a new appitizer each time we come. But what's really new, is the the beer and wine that keeps pace with the quality of their food. I just love their full bodied dark beer (not dry or too filling). My wife had the wine, and she was very happy with their quality and sellection. They still have the fun belly dancing, and the Casbah experience just keeps getting better! Hint: Because of the Casbah's growing popularity, I recomend that for parties of 5 or more, call ahead and reserve a table, or you might be disapointed if you just show up and can't get one ( like the party of 9 that we witnessed). Some nights (toward the week end, Fri&Sat) are reservations only, so it wouldn't hurt to call ahead anyway (just in case). Sundays are their slowest day, if you want to get right in.

Showed up on a week night and we were the only guests. We were immediately acknowledged and seated. Our waiter was great and since we had not been there before told us about "his" favorites. We settled on a Falafel platter for a appetizer, Gyro dinner, Casbah special Dinner plate, and a salmon dish. The falafel were wonderful! We loved all the different sauces that came with it! The portion on the gyro was huge, my college son did not finish it all. I had the special dinner plate with chicken. While the server had warned me that it was made with white meat I did find it to be very dry. It had a good flavor however. The salmon was very nicely prepared and spiced. it was not overpowering, but balanced They were attentive to our water and other beverage levels, but again we were the ONLY ones in there for most of our meal. All in all it was good and we'd like to go back when the belly dancing is going on.

So happy that a good Mediterranean restaurant opened in Livermore. It's been here for about six months and I didn't know about it until a friend brought me. The server Josh kicked arse and let us close the place down. Awesome place, awesome people, awesome food... I had the Gyro salad and will be back...

Since we had a bad experience with carryout previously, we decided to eat in and I must say that it made all the difference in the world. They have totally turned the atmosphere around from the pizza place that was there before. The wait staff was attentive and very friendly. The menu includes many standard mediterranean items, but a number of house specials; much better than Demetri's. We were there for lunch so I had a Greek salad and the lunch platter that includes, gyros, Persian kabob, and Moroccan chicken with Persian rice. My wife had eggplant stew. Both dishes were excellent; well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The menu has a number of vegetarian dishes including a coconut cake that we will have to go back and try, since I love coconut but we were too full to get on this visit. All in all, this our new go to spot for Mediterranean food Livermore

My coworker and I were looking for a good local restaurant to try while in town for business. This place not only met, but exceeded my expectations. I loved the small restaurant feel and the waiter/Manager was great (not to mention easy on the eyes and took the time to chat it up with us about our trip to CA and our local state; Colorado). The hummus had great flavor and my lamb/beef gyro was amazing. My coworker ordered the Greek Chicken, which was flavorful and tender. Would DEFINITELY come back here for mediterranean food if I'm ever back in town.

This place is okay for Mediterranean. If you have never been anywhere else you will think it deserves a 4 or 5 star or if you have also never made any Mediterranean food on your own like hummus or baba or falafel. We ordered the Mizra, Falafel, and lamb sharwma. I have never had MIzra before, but I found it a bit sour -- maybe it was the tomato. It looked canned rather than fresh. The Falafel was dry. It also seemed overcooked-- . I also had the hummus which I found to be watery and the taste seemed like it had too much tahini in it and not enough garlic or cumin. They served it also with pita which I didn't like. I like my Falafel in a the bigger wrap. Finally we also had the lamb sharwma. Parts of the shaved lamb were dry and overcooked and it also didn't have enough seasoning. Again it was served with pita. should have been served with the bigger wrap. I would not go back. The Dublin Sahara Market is WAY better.

Visited twice and enjoyed both times. Quality consistently high. Stuffed eggplant, a veggie offering, was superb. The sampler plate with falafel, somosas and more, was excellent. We split both orders and had room for dessert -- non-dairy ice cream (rosewater/saffron pistachio, which was good. It can be noisy if there are children having tantrums, but the server was helpful with regard to the size of portions and how much she thought we could eat. She was right!

I liked everything but the farts. Literally. The food was delicious. I ordered the three kabob combo and my boyfriend Clint ordered the French Riviera Pasta. The first time Clint asked me if I farted, I thought he was joking. I laughed and we continued our conversation while commenting on the flavors of the kabob, the lovely pesto pasta, and the great texture of the rice and what a nice touch the saffron is...until he inturtupted our conversation once again to ask me if I farted... This time I smelled it. I turned around and saw who I believe was the culprit in a near by table. A nerdy looking guy with a very awkward look on his face. The pungent smell emerged a few more times until the table left. But after that we were able to enjoy the rest of our meal in the nice romantic environment of the restaurant. I really liked the $5.oo corking fee for Livermore wines and the staff was exceptionally nice. I am looking forward to my next visit.

Love love love the blossom water; got that to go too. our dinner order for pick up was ready exactly as promised. The only qualms I have about this place is that the dinner size portions to go are not the same generous size as eating in. I felt that they could pack just a little more. I remember ordering the eggplant stew and getting so full and having a lot leftover to take home. The only reason we ordered to go was because it was Diwali and hubby and I were really rushing to get.home and prepare our home for the ritual. We had so much to do and little time. Next time we're eating at the restaurant.

The food was delicious, the prices pretty fair. Nice patio seating area. Good beer and wine selection with lots of local favorites. The food is well-prepared and tasty. It's not super high end but stylish in it's own way. Every time I come here, I wonder why I don't more often.

One of my favorite Livermore restaurants. I frequently go here for lunch during the week. Parking is easier to find and there's seldom a wait for a table during the day. If the weather's not too warm opt to sit on the patio. My favorite menu items are the Greek salad with gyros meat or the gyros plate. The only thing I don't really care for here, is there heated pita bread. It gets hard when it cools and is unappetizing. Be sure to try the grilled Halloumi cheese appetizer. Delicious!

Since my sister moved to livermore, she has been trying to find food that is good with the standards of dining in the south bay. I visit her often and during one of my visits she took me to casbah. She said it's one of the rare places that she actually enjoys in livermore. I got the eggplant dish and it was delicious! I am a sucker for eggplant and that dish was amazing. It was stuffed with tomatoes and meat. Came along side a bed of fluffy rice. I could barely finish half my dish, took the rest to-go, and deeply regretted leaving it in my sister's fridge as I left for the south bay the next day. Another place, they carry angry orchard on tap. I was so excited when I saw it. Will definitely make more visits here whenever I see my sister! (:

WOW! What a great find. My mom and I were looking for a new place to try that would hopefully be ok with my "high maintenance" food issues (Celiac). We were greeted by friendly service that carried through the meal (THANKS, KAYVAN!). As soon as I mentioned not being able to have gluten, he asked if it was celiac so he could alert the kitchen. The menu is already marked with what has gluten and different allergy related items, and most things they can modify anyway. Even beyond the allergy issues, it was great food and service. We had the Greek Salad, WOW, fresh veggies along with AMAZING feta. We then had the Suvlaki and a stuffed eggplant. (I'm currently eating the eggplant for lunch, just as good the next day!). We will def be back and am already suggesting it to my friends and co-workers :)

This food is great! They are able to please my husband who needs a fresh filling meal and myself who needs a health conscious and delicious meal. I have food allergies. They know what is in the food and don't mind talking about it. This sounds odd but some places don't seem to appreciate you asking what they put in the food. This place is interested in serving fresh/healthy food and most importantly its delicious. Its a match made in heaven!

Earlier this summer, after a day of fruit picking and beer tasting in Brentwood and then Livermore, a group of friends and I decided to stop here for dinner. They had a cute outdoor patio area where we all comfortable squeezed in together. The service was friendly and fast and the food was a delightful surprise! I ordered the Fesenjan and we shared some appetizers including the hummus and falafel platter. The best appetizer I had? The Mirza by far! It is a Persian appetizer with eggplant, tomato and eggs. Warm, savory and delicious with some freshly toasted pita bread, this one was a crowd favorite and the plate was swiped clean within minutes. The vegan Fesenjan was a treat! Slightly sweet and tangy, with pomegranate and walnuts, it tasted more like something for appetizer than a main meal since I prefer savory over sweet. My friend ordered the regular Fesenjan with chicken and it was much more oily. I also heard the lamb skewers were very good by the guys that ordered them. I would certainly visit again if I was in the area:)

This place is very accommodating. Service was timely, friendly, and helpful. The Persian Kebob was tasty. The ground lamb and beef were grilled perfectly. Portions were pretty generous. The rice was fluffy. I barely finished my plate and I'm a big eater. Ambiance is casual with limited seating. Harder to accommodate big parties here.

Christy Y - Disgruntled employee happening in your review. Not cool and not classy. I recognize you from your photo. We eat at the Casbah all the time. If anyone wants to know how things are cooked, they can sit at the bar. If you as a server saw something that wasn't right, you shouldn't serve it. We have always found The Casbah to be very accomodating. Favorite dishes - eggplant casserole, lamb shank, Mediterranean stir fry, baba ghanoush...the list goes on. We also like that the owner, Ben, comes out to great his guests to ensure that everyone is happy.

This Casbah rocks! Literally & figuratively. After giving my baby an unexpected tour of Downtown Livermore we could hear the music beating down the block from a few blocks away. It led us to what just so happened to be "belly dancing night". Maybe I'm getting old but the music was ridiculously loud. Like club level loud. Also, I enjoy watching a pretty lady shake her groove thing just as much as the next perv, but the confined space here isn't exactly conducive to belly dancing. I guess if my only complaint about a restaurant is that the atmosphere is too lively, they are doing a pretty damned good job. My first amazement was that the words "Vegan" were printed on the menu. Not unexpected in normal cities, but in Livermore, it's unheard of. I think the only other place that uses the word "Vegan" in Livermore is the small pizza chain, Zpizza yelp.com/biz/zpizza-live… The fact that they use a soy-based meatball substitute in several of their dishes is much appreciated. Although honestly I think there has to be a better substitute that could be used. Maybe a Gardein product of some sort? We ordered a Falafel Platter & the Gormeh Shabzi featuring the aforementioned soy meatball. Our very attentive waitress surmised that we were Vegan when she brought out some pita with hummus yelp.com/biz_photos/jirO… Later the owner, Benjamin came out & talked to us explaining that he used to be Vegan for eight years. He also informed us that most everything is organic as well. Now all this Vegan friendliness in Livermore started to make sense to me. He also treated us to a dish that we didn't order insisting that we must try it, a bowl of Fesenjan. It instantly became my GF's favorite dish of the night. The Falafel Platter yelp.com/biz_photos/jirO… included five balls of falafel, two pita pockets & enough fixin's of cucumber and tomato to form two sizeable sandwiches out of it. The falafel was extremely seasoned & flavorful without the heavy deep friedness usually associated with a crunchier falafel. It contained almost too much seasoning to eat without hummus. Which is ok because that's the only way to roll with these balls. The Gormeh Shabzi yelp.com/biz_photos/jirO… was much more tart than I had expected. Although pouring it over the saffron seasoned rice yelp.com/biz_photos/jirO… tempered the tartness, creating a very flavorful entree. I'm very grateful that the owner brought out the bowl of Fesenjan yelp.com/biz_photos/jirO… since it ended up being both my GF & my own favorite once we were both stuffed at the end. The sweetness from the pomegranate based sauce was mellowed with the flavor from the crushed walnuts that permeated this dish. When we were about to leave, our excellent waitress asked if we would like any dessert. My dessert loving sweetie jokingly replied, "only if you have something that's Vegan". She laughed & mentioned the Turkish Coffee. We declined but then she returned with yet another surprise, Faloudeh yelp.com/biz_photos/jirO… It's a sweetened mixture of icy Rice Noodles with Rose Water. I'm still on the fence if I would order this or not. It has a rose flavor that's more than a hint but less than a full kick to the senses. Very interesting & it was also very sweet. Maybe next time we'll try the Turkish Coffee instead. I'm certainly glad I got to try it. Yes there will certainly be a next time since as a Vegan stuck in Livermore, there isn't many places that cater to you. They really go out of their way to accommodate using authentic Persian foods and a little creativity. Looking at their menu has me wondering what I'll order next visit... casbahexotic.com/vegetar…

I found this place on Happycow.net looking for a place that caters to Vegan/Vegetarian tastes. Once I located this place I of course I checked it out on Yelp. It was rated 4 stars and like a good experienced Yelper, I read the reviews and looked at the online menu. All checked out good, so I decided this was the place we were going to go for dinner. I am not understanding why anyone would have an experience here less then 5 stars. We got here at about 5pm on a Friday night and there were plenty of tables available. We were seated right away (and they have outdoor seating for the 4 legged friends) which showed me immediately they are willing to accommodate. Then we were greeted by our server, Kayvan. Now I will tell you, I did not see ANYONE employee at this place who did not have a smile on their face and was not warm and friendly. Being our first time here, we asked a lot of questions about the area, my wife asked about the wines, and of course we asked about the food and for some suggestions. We are Vegan and the choices were plentiful. We started with the Spanakopita which I thought was really good. To me it was exactly what the menu described. Being fried, of course my wife does not like things real greasy and she felt they were a little. I disagreed as I thought they were perfectly cooked, flaky and the inside was amazing. I decided for a Mediterranean place I wanted something I normally do not find on a menu at home. I ordered a dish with Kayvan's suggestion called Fesenjan. I was trying to decide between the Fesenjan Vegan and the Mediterranean Stir Fry Vegan. I specify Vegan because you can get most if not all the dishes with meat if you are into meat. My dish came with Soy Meatballs which we were anxious to try. I will tell you what, I used to eat meat and sweet and sour meatballs were one of my mom's specialities and these Soy meatballs, OMG, very very close comparison. We were so impressed my wife ordered the Mediterranean Stir Fry Vegan with the meatballs and both dishes were AMAZING. Now here is the AMAZING PART OF THIS..... We were so impressed at the taste of these meatballs that we asked the server several times to check and see if we can get the recipe. Kayvan finally got the chance to ask the Manager Josh and the answer we got back was, HE DID NOT KNOW. It turns out these are a SECRET Recipe he gets from a friend in Castro Valley that WILL NOT TELL HIM. I need to find this guy and find out how to buy some. They were the BEST I have ever had. Lastly, my wife ordered the Vegan Coconut Cake and I don't care if you are not Vegan, you will NEVER taste anything like this cake. Even our server Kayvan who is not Vegan orders this cake at least once a month if not more, that is how good this cake is. So 5 stars is for the AMAZING Staff which you can CLEARLY tell the attitude and personality of the staff stems from the Manager Josh. He is an amazing guy and all his servers are amazing as well. The food is out of this world and we have eaten in a lot of Mediterranean places in a variety of states and this one is the BEST. You will not find a place with a better atmosphere and food then you will here in Livermore. If you are in this area and you do not try this place, you will be missing one of the BEST experiences in your life from the ambiance, to the staff to the food and drink. This place is a MUST if you are in this area. Lastly, the prices are very reasonable and will not break your bank. We will be back here again.

Great service and average food. Nice outside seating for a nice day out. Lentil soap wasn't good and waiter took it off the bill. The Gyro plate was great.

Sit out on the patio and drink some wine, eat some haloumi cheese, and let the cute waiter chat with you because he's so stinking adorable. And the food's good. Casbah doesn't look like much when you first walk in, but the flavors are layered and well executed. The hummus was great - started off nutty and somehow ended with a zingy citrus note - how DO they do that?? Either way, I cleaned the plate and wished we had more time to try other things. We will be back. I will not make a lame "rock the Casbah" joke because everyone else who's written a review already has.

Yummy! We were driving back from Feather River on July 6th, and traffic on 580 was horrendous. Hungry, we searched for dinner, and Yelp brought us to the other Greek restaurant. Sadly, it did not have many veggie options, so we walked down the block and found Casbah. Turned out that BF has eaten here before, and liked it. So many options for vegetarians! He ordered the couscous platter, which was yummy, and I had the fesenjan with soy meatballs. Initially I was going to get the sabzi, but seeing so many comments on Yelp about fesenjan, I had to try it, although BF was worried about it being too sweet with the pomegranate molasses. It wasn't too sweet, but was savory, and went well with the basmati rice. Will definitely return if we are in the area, or heading out/back from roadtrips.

This was my first visit to this restaurant. My husband and I wanted to go somewhere close by the theatre which a few doors down. The food and service were absolutely wonderful. The waiter was friendly. My husband had the kabob platter and I had the eggplant stew. Both were so delicious. We highly recommend this place and will definitely be back.

Found this place thanks to Yelp and I couldn't be more grateful. The food was incredible and the service was great. I had the potato appetizer and the chicken walnut pomegranate stew...out of this world. I will certainly go back and try many more things from their menu, which is 85% gluten-free. They also have an array of options for vegans; a whole section of their menu to be exact. Next time I'm ordering their famous stuffed eggplant. Make it a point to go and eat at this establishment next time you are in Livermore.

AMAZING! My food was great! I would highly recommend this as a quick lunch spot. I had the hot tea with cardamom, which was a nice touch with my meal. I ordered the lunch platter, which had a selection of different meats. The yogurt sauce was delicious. All of the different meats were delicious. I left full and happy...and a little disappointed that I didn't have room for dessert!

Reading all the reviews I must confess I was excited! But.... the food was not as great as I was expecting. We ordered Greek Suvlaki, Fesenjan, Hummus, Halloumi Cheese, Mirza, bread pudding w/ pistachio ice cream and few other things. While the service was very good, the food was just.... Meh. The exception was the Halloumi Cheese -- VERY well done & delicious. The pesto on top of the fried cheese is WONDERFUL! Am I glad we tried Casbah Mediterranean Kitchen? - Yes. Would I recommend it? - No. Would I return? - Not without looking to see if there was another alternative.

I went here with a co-worker just on a whim because the menu looked interesting and it became one of my favorite places to eat. All of the dishes I've had are excellent and they will adjust the seasoning to people's taste. I recently took a friend here and it was his first time having Mediterranean and they adjusted everything so it wasn't so intense for his taste-buds. I really like the outside seating when the weather is warm. I actually have never sat inside since I just found it this summer, but I been here at least 5 times now and brought different people each time. Every person that has come with me really enjoys the food too.

The best eggplant with babacanush, ( I hope I spelled right) I have ever had. Especially their humus. Just delicious. The decor is appropriate. My husband and I just love the place. The service is great and the owners are very accomadating.

Ended up here with a friend for late lunch. The staff was courteous and attentive. They have a vast variety of options for vegetarians. Their servings are huge. The food was four star - not bad but missing something! The ambiance can be improved upon as well. I won't write it off completely; will try it again!

Great food, good service, large portions. Loved the outdoor seating. We had lunch and we were able to sit in a shady spot. If I could change anything I would make the hummus a Lil more lemony. But the pita was so soft n fresh. Over all very happy. We will be visiting more often.

Love me some mediterranean food, 5 star rating says it all... the food is absolutely amazing, the service and staff are just warm, welcoming and caring. I got to speak to the cooks as they are Persian, I will be back... doing Tuesdays lunches...

WARNING, DON'T EAT HERE!!!!! The taste and the quality of the food is DISGUSTING! I ordered the Falafel Platter, something simple. The tomato and cucumbers were old, and looked like they were ROTTEN!!! I instantly lost my appetite when i saw this... The Falafels seemed very dry and were rock hard like they were not fresh. I also ordered a side of hummus and it tasted sour like it had expired! My boyfriend told me he saw them reheating food in microwaves and serving canned soups! WHAT KIND OF PLACE IS THIS? To put this politely, I didn't enjoy the rest of my night OR the next day with all the stomach pains and vomiting after eating their food. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO CASBAH MEDITERRANEAN KITCHEN AGAIN!!!

This restaurant has amazing service. Mostly this is due to their excellent head waiter, named Brenden, whom we spoke with. He was extremely knowledgeable about the authentic Moroccan cooking techniques the restaurant employs, and told us about the happy lives led by the free range sheep which supply the restaurant with it exquisite lamb. Brenden, and presumably the rest of the wait staff as well, was courteous, prompt, and efficient in table management, in addition to being extremely knowledgeable about the their authentic food preparation and food sourcing. In addition, Brenden was humorous, kind, and well mannered. Also, the food was good.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in town. The food is always delicious and fresh. I almost always get the gyros plate, and everything else I've tried but can't pronounce has always been good. It is a small restaurant so if you go during a busy time, its best to make reservations or order to go.

We went there last night and it was delicious! I had the Persian Sautée which has an amazing complexity of flavor with a great citrus bite. I have enjoyed every dish I have tried in the past but this last visit was just above and beyond.

My boyfriend and I went here on a busy Friday night. The staff seemed overwhelmed by the amount of people and the food took quite a long time to arrive. We ordered a hummus appetizer, which was not very good. I am a huge hummus fan, but this was cold and chunky accompanied by limp pita bread. Luckily the entree of chicken kebabs was a better. The waitress was very nice but brought us the wrong check- twice. Luckily the manager was there and gave us the appetizer on the house for waiting. The friendly staff helped to make up for the long wait and noisy atmosphere.

It's unfortunate that most times I pick up my phone to leave a review on yelp, it's because I have had a bad experience. The exception to that rule is when I have an experience so good that I feel I need to shout it from the top of a mountain. We were absolutely blown away at everything we tried. We all had something different and we were all completely in love with our food. The staff were nice, the service was fast, and the prices seemed reasonable, given the quality if the food. We all left there huge smiles on our faces!!

Lordy knows I love me a good Falafel! I came here with my good friend for a small dinner & drinks. We ordered the Falafel Platter, and an order of Dolmeh. Soo good. Really, fresh ingredients with exotic tastes. Hearty, too. I can see that perhaps maybe the menu seems a little intimidating at first, or too exotic- but give it a try and your taste buds will thank you! The staff was very friendly that night and chitchatted with us. & the decor was really clean and cute! This place is nestled in the cutest location, right next to The Vine Theater, off of first st

I have not been known to be a huge fan of Mediterranean food, nor am I all that familiar with it, but we decided to broaden our horizens and give Casbah a try, and I'm glad we did. A very friendly wait staff greeted us, and we were seated promptly. The Karniyarick, which is apparently a Turkish stuffed egglant dish, was excellent! At first, the flavor seemed a bit odd to me, but the more I ate, the more I enjoyed it! I will definitely order again. My greek salad was good- not amazing, but tasty enough with a nice lemony dressing, and my hubby's chicken stir fry was pretty good, too. (I'm not sure that I would have ordered stir fry at that type of restaurant, but it was good.) I think we met the owner, who was very friendly and seemed to appreciate our business. Overall, a nice, small restaurant with some good dining and drink selections. Prices were reasonable, too. We'll be back, for sure.

Planning our dinner out last night ,was a tough one.... my husband & I were trying to make the 7pm showing of Casablanca at The Vine Cinema, and needed a nearby spot, to consume a quick bite. We are regulars at Zephyr, which we enjoy, but really needed someplace easy and quick. We tried Casbah for the first time and it was REALLY GREAT (and what better of a choice of food, prior to seeing this movie!!) We opted to sit at the bar, which faces onto the grill & prep area (which was all very clean and presentable). A very lovely, smiling, young lady, Molly, helped us immediately with our request for a "rush" dinner. She made some great recommendations: Started with the Mirza appetizer, and moved onto the Moroccan Chicken Kabob and the Mediterranean Stir Fry. All of which were fabulously delicious!!! We also enjoyed some of the new LOCAL brews that are being offered from Altamont Brewery... Hella Hoppy, which provided a wonderful accompaniment to our lovely dinner. We sat down at 6:20 and paid our tab and left by 6:55, and made our 7pm movie - THANKS MOLLY!!!! All was wonderful and very fun. (by the way - we're definitely coming back, when more time allows for us, to try the Lamb Shank and Grilled Ahi Tuna.... the entire menu looks wonderful and not fussy!). Best wishes to Casbah staff for a successful 2014

Went here with my daughter for mothers day. Ordered Hummus and a Greek Salad. WOOOOEEEEEE that's a Tart salad dressing. Is it Mediterranean if it's Lemony? The Hummus and Pita was most excellent and a very generous serving. Next up was the Tart. Oh whoops I mean the Couscous. Seriously my mouth puckered up and rejected this on the first bite. Visually this was very appetizing. Pearl Couscous with Cucumbers. I mean it was some citric acid a bowl with couscous. Two bites and I was done. I asked for a box just so I could take it home and not insult them. The piece de resistance however was the stir fry. Carrots, cabbage, and zucchini with tender chicken on a bed of saffron rice. It says on the menu eggplant but I wouldn't order or recommend the dish for that alone. Really wonderful dish with perfectly cooked veggies and the flavor was fantastic. Awesome flavorful rice! Small cozy atmosphere. Definitely worth a repeat visit.

I've been here 3 times over the past couple months with a few friends. The staff has been very good each time. Very helpful in explaining some of the dishes we weren't familiar with. They were also good at keeping our drinks full and making sure we had what we needed. First time I ordered the gyro's and was surprised when it came on a plate instead of in a wrap. Flavor was great and not as messy as when in a wrap. I'd order it again. 2nd trip tried something different that was good and last time I tried the lamb shank special w/rice. It was tender and had a lot of flavor. I like the Gyro better but it was nice to try for something different. I'm not an expert in mediterranean cuisine but I liked the food so far and the dinners were enjoyable. There is also patio seating if you like eating outside. I'll be a customer again.

Went here for dinner for the first time, the food and service was great. The hubby ordered the trio. The gyro (meat) was super tasty and tender. The beef kabob and chicken were very tasty. I ordered the lamb chops, they had great flavor :) Looking forward to going back.

My wife and I eat here at least once a week and absolutely love this place. Ben the owner and all the staff are so welcoming and attentive. My wife has a very specific order that they accommodate with no issues. For me the kabob combo, karniyarik and lamb shank are my go to's. The hummus is fantastic but if you're going for an appetizer GET the Mirza. Oh. My. Goodness. Everything is fresh and full of bright flavored. A Livermore Gem.

I really like this place, although my dining partner is not a fan. We have always had , good service, especially by Kayvan. The hummus and pita are great, and I really like the vegan Mediterranean pasta and falafel plate. Portions are large; we always have leftovers. Definitely try the vegan vanilla coconut cake-- one of the best vegan desserts I have ever had!! Re. the non-vegan food, my friend likes the gyros, but was less than impressed with the small yet expensive lamb shank. Also, parking is a hassle, and the bathroom in another building is kind of strange!

I used to joke that "nothing says Christmas like a lamb gyro," but it has become my truth. This review is for their presence at Christmas in the Park in San Jose, I've never been to the restaurant in Livermore. I love the booth at CITP! Every December for the last 5 years I find myself eating a few lamb gyros here. Despite growing up in a very white family, these lamb gyros have become a Christmas tradition for us. They are very good and reasonably priced. I was there yesterday and I hope to get one more before their last day on Monday.

Casbah it spot on every time we come here. They are very accommodating as far as food allergen/choices - which I very much appreciate as I am a health conscious herbivore. All of the servers are great, and knowledgeable. The hummus and pita bread are amazing. Every dish has its own unique flavor and spices. I usually order the dolmeh (vegan) or falafel platter but the eggplant dish is just as delicious. The vegan vanilla coconut dessert with vegan whip-cream is so so so good. It isn't very coconutty - which is great because I'm not a huge fan of coconut. Last time we came here the owner came introduced himself to us and informed us about how every dish is home made with organic ingredients that way they know exactly what is in the food. I found this information to be a pleasant surprise, and made me feel comfortable as to what I was eating. He even treated us to a vegan dessert. After coming here a few times I'd say this is my favorite restaurant in Livermore, by far.

I LOVE this place! The owners are so charming and the food is delicious. My husband and I eat at Casbah frequently and we always order the Halloumi appetizer. I tend to order a variation of the same thing (the stuffed eggplant - vegetarian or nonveggie) and my husband loves the lamb. Their wine list and beers on tap are also compelling reasons to dine at Casbah. I highly recommend visiting for lunch or dinner any day of the week.

Hi Benjamin, You cannot claim we were informed the two tables were for families - that is a blatant lie - we were never told those tables were reserved. How can you say you saw the entire conversation when you were no where in sight? The conversation between sir-gel-a-lot only consisted of "there is a 15 minute wait" without any further explanation that the open tables were reserved or whatever you claim your employee said to us. If he would have said anything about the tables being reserved, I am sure I would have been more understanding. So two stars for you trying to explain what happened, but minus one star for lying and claiming we were given any information regarding the open tables even though we never were. Thanks for trying.

Wonderful, fresh food, great service, but a little cramped for space. I love the haloumi cheese appetizer with the lentil salad for starters, and sometimes for lunch. Everything else I have tasted has highly developed flavors and textures and each time I can't wait to try something new. I love this type of food and have not been disappointed in a single dish. You won't leave, hungry , either! The servings are ample. I hope this restaurant will be here for a long time! I am only about halfway through the menu! If only they could expand...

It's taken us a year to come into Casbah for two reasons. First, we are tired of searching for an undiscovered treasure that doesn't exist in Livermore. Second, I'm disappointed to say the popular American restaurant next door always wins when we are out with friends. Even after reading reviews, all good BTW, I still hadn't been convinced to call spontaneity out for a Mediterranean dinner duel. Here's a breakdown of our experience: AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars Being this was an Extreme Pizza joint before, I see how it would be a challenge to give it a Mediterranean face-lift but they did their best. Colorful decor, casual, outdoor dining a plus for warm weather, and quiet. We tend to arrive rather late for Livermore standards, so it was pretty empty. The two other tables left by the time we started to delve into our meals, leaving us as the solo patrons. We're told it gets pretty packed on the weekends. SERVICE - 5 stars Alex, our server, welcomed us, chatted us up about the place, and provided great service. The level of service even went as far as to ask me whether I would like the cook to use different utensils since I had ordered a vegetarian meal. I was curious about this so I looked it up and read that a small segment of the vegetarian population prefers to use plates, utensils, and cooking implements that have never touched meat or other animal products. FOOD - 4 stars Looking at the menu I could see several different varieties of food, including vegetarian. What does a girl like me know about Mediterranean? Not too much...nor do I know about Turkish or Persian food, but what I do know is how to read ingredients and imagine how they blend together. I may be judging prematurely, but I'm going on the dishes we ordered last night. I scored well with the Turkish stuffed eggplant dish served with basmati rice, which I think was a mix of basmati and saffron rice. ALL I can say is "whoah!" It's the whole eggplant stuffed with some kind of soy crumbles and lots of other good stuff. Sorry I should have written the name down. I knew vegetarian could be mouth watering, and I didn't think I was going to clean my plate, but my food fetish logic told me to finish it while it was fresh. The rice was flavorful and fluffy just like basmati rice was meant to be. It's new to the menu and was told is has been getting more and more popular. My husband would probably give his Gyros a 5 star. He loved it that much. Before ordering, he asked our server if their Gyros were better than Dimitri's (another restaurant downtown) and he quickly responded with a YES. After it was said and done, I told Alex they definitely got my husbands vote for "better than the Greek place." WINE LIST - They offer a good selection of Livermore wines (and beer) OTHER - TBD After a friendly conversation with Benjamin, the owner, we were excited to hear about how his vision of owning a place similar to a bustling London eatery evolved into something special and unique in a little town like ours. He described what other nights and days are like at his restaurant. Such as Arabian Night - Third Thursday of the month and Sundays - Jazz. Now here's where this place exceeds my expectations. A+ for fresh, sustainable, organic ingredients. A+ for Gluten-Free. A+ for being Green (as in recycles) Overall, our first visit was enjoyable. We even put wheels on an order of Gyros for our teens who didn't come along, which BTW were nicely wrapped in recyclable containers - not Styrofoam. It's almost hard to believe that we can add another great spot to our "local food fair." I'll post an update after tonight. We are actually going back to try and get a spot for the belly dancers tonight.

This place is pretty good! The people who work there are friendly and offer up suggestions from the menu if you don't know what you want. I had the Persian Saute, which was loaded with parsley and cilantro with a sharp, citrus flavor. The waiter said it was "intense" so of course I had to take the challenge! My friend had the Barcelona Shrimp Feta Pasta that was really good too! I ordered coffee with dessert but didn't realize it was Turkish coffee until they brought it to the table. It's strong stuff! There are other things on the menu that sound interesting and I'm sure I'll be back. It's a small place but with seating outside I don't think you'll have a problem getting a table, even in nice weather.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in downtown Livermore. The couscous platter is amazing, so are the chicken kabobs and their rice is fabulous. I always get a side of the tzatziki, it goes with everything. Please try the Casbah cooler, it is delicious & refreshing. The owner & servers are great, give it a try!

The food was well prepared and delicious. We had the beef and eggplant stew that was incredible also the Mediterranean pasta which my daughter ate the entire thing! On top of the food the service was very friendly and prompt. They were relatively busy, but did a great job at ensuring all their guests were taken well care of.

So I made reservations for my party of eight tonight. Love the expansion, everyone's friendly and the food is delicious. However there were a few negative things that stuck out and nothing really above and beyond to compensate. For one we had 2 kids and they didn't tell us they had kids menus until half the table ordered. Then I used the restroom and it was disgusting. Paper all over the floor, garbage full and no toilet paper. The works. I told someone when I came back in it needed attention. Then I took my son 40 minuets later and it was the exact same. I again told an attendant- and went before we left and it was again untouched. Seriously? I'll still come back, but I won't stay for a second beer that's for sure.

Just had another experience at Casbah today, and it was surprisingly less than ideal. The waiter- who appeared new and I did not recognize him- did not want to split our check, despite us never having had that issue before and no written policy anywhere saying checks could not be split. He said that it was a new "policy" by the "manager"- strange considering this had not been an issue in the 4 years I have been going to Casbah. Stranger still, it looks like Casbah is about to open its bar section- it would appear doubtful that they would suddenly stop letting people split checks when they are about to open for bar service as well. Food was still good, but service today left a bit to be desired. Anyhow, I hope they get this all sorted out. Update: Since posting the review, the manager has contacted me and is working to resolve the issues.

Had a wonderful meal. Shared a lunch combination, Greek salad and a Hummus plate with my wife and we couldn't finish it. The ambience is bright with interesting lamps hanging from the ceiling. Clean clean clean. Our server was a hoot. She was helpful and welcoming. The Greek salad was perfectly dressed and everything looked like it was just sliced. Excellent olives. In short, the attention to detail was evident here. Interesting exotic soft drinks. We'll be back.

Food was ok...a little bland for my taste. I tried the eggplant with beef inside, and I didn't particularly enjoy it. I have had Mediterranean food before, but this food wasn't to my liking. Servers were great and very friendly. I probably won't be coming back though. The plates were pretty expensive too.

Good ambiance! We called ahead and reserved but I guess you don't really have to do that. They have good beers but no cocktails. The kids Alfredo pesto pasta was good and so were the moraccan chicken kabob. The Persian stir fry was just too lemony. I couldn't eat more than a few bites. The saffron pistachio ice cream tasted different. It was not like a usual ice cream you are used to eating. It looked slimy for some reason. I confirmed that it was the daily version. The service was good. I probably made some bad choices. We drove from Fremont to Livermore. Wasn't worth that much drive.

Service was good and friendly. Food was underwhelming. - The "tzatziki" sauce accompanying the kebabs didn't have any cucumber in it - it was really just yogurt with some dried mint and a sprinkle of sumac. - The rice that came with everything in large amounts just had a handful of saffron rice kernels mixed in, but otherwise plain. - Unfortunately what really what turned me off was spanakopita that was deep-fried. Not baked as it should be. That is just lazy preparation.

I love this restaurant! Not only are the favors delicious but they understand dairy free and gluten/grain free meals as well. They are accommodating to turn a standard meal into a Paleo meal also, just let them know what you need. Oh, friendly owners and waiters too. The cooks say hi and smile also:)

This is a nice small restaurant with outdoor seating. I had the mediterranean stir fry vegetables with rice for lunch. The vegetables were tossed in a yellow curry that was tart tasting. A good variety of vegetables but the dish needed more flavor. Service was non existant after I got my dish and had to ask for water when the restaurant was not even busy.

Amazing food, great atmosphere, and ALWAYS the best, friendliest service! Selinna was our server tonight, and her recommendations were spot on, and service was 2nd to none!!! A++++++++ every time!!

Consistent, but not amazing. Good selection of beer for a small place. Nice outdoor seating near/in downtown and not as noisy as the outdoor areas in the middle of downtown. Service is good. Lacks a bit on indoor atmosphere.

I met up with a friend here for lunch on a very hot Sunday. We dined outside and the shade of their umbrellas. My friend and I started with an order of the baba ganoush and pita and split the lunch platter (kebob combo). The baba ganoush was creamy and smoky. Although it wasn't the best I've had it was quite good. The pita was a bit too charred in some spots but overall was fine. The kebob combo consists of gyros, ground beef and lamb, and chicken breast, served with Persion rice. The meat was seasoned well and flavorful. The portions are generous as my friend and I could not finish the two dishes. Service was okay. While our server was eager to please, I think he may have been stretched thin as he was missing for periods of time. Parking is fairly easy to find near the restaurant. While the restaurant is one of the better ones in Livermore (per my limited exposure to restaurants in the area), I found the food to be good, but not outstanding given the other Persian restaurants I frequent (often). Would I recommend this restaurant to others? Yes.

James and I had lunch here today. It was out on the far end of Livermore downtown. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the food. It was decent. I ordered the Greek Gyros while he ordered the vegetable curry. The lamb was declicious. Wasn't dry. It was not saturated in salt like other places i have been to, although it was a litte salty. Overall, the food was good. Ambience wasn't too bad either. Had a little old style feeling to it. Since it was a beautiful day, the outside would have been great too. However, we stayed inside. Rating: Food: 4 Service: 4 Price: 3 Overall: 4 I would come back here. It wasn't too bad.

I recently had to begin a vegan diet due to being diagnosed with type two diabetes. The Casbah Cafe was a splendid find one night as we were going to the Vine Cinema. Plenty for me to eat and for the rest of my family. The food is always very good. The staff is eager to make you comfortable. The owner is watching his flock to make sure things succeed. We since have become regulars and I would recommend it to locals and tourists alike. Great feel, food and prices too.

Casbah is located in a great little street in the old town area. The menu is ample and had a great selection of local beer and wine. The even offer a reduced $5 corkage fees for Livermore Valley wines. We had the samosas, which were unlike others we've had & quite tasty. For entrees we chose the Persian kabobs and chicken souvlaki. Both were yummy with good sized portions. The wait staff was incredibly friendly and the patio seating was wonderful.

The meals here are simple, organic, and healthy for your body. We had some pita bread with hummus to begin and it was very fresh! The pita bread was warm and lovely. It was the perfect starter to a great meal. I had a couscous salad, and my fiancé had another salad with fruit on it. They were small, but adequate enough to fill us up. They had lots of very fresh ingredients and tasted amazing. It always feels great to feed your body food that is so fresh and full of quality ingredients. There are several healthy options here, and meal options that would satisfy a vegan, vegetarian, and of course, carnivores.

Good menu and mix of Iranian and other food. For example, Persian Spaghetti! The beer selection was good too. A lot of local Livermore choices. We definitely good back. By the way, they also good outdoor sitting. Great for summer!

I've been here several times since my first review- and I have to say, the food is much better than it was the first time I went. I didn't realize I had not updated my review. I have really come to like this place- I just get the kebabs. And I'm 100% addicted to the cardamom tea. I just wish it came with more than 1 free refill.

I went here with two friends--and I thought the food was pretty good, though my water was served in a dirty glass, which put me off the meal a bit. I had the lamb with tzatziki sauce and it was AMAZING. Two huge logs of lamb with a little dish of the yogurt dip on the side. I ate it all, and felt full for HOURS afterwards. Service was a little on the meh side. Our waiter was nice but seemed a bit inexperienced. Also the bathroom is located in a really weird place. You need a key, and then you actually have to exit the building, walk down past that concrete walkway where Zephyr is, and enter another door, go down a hall, and turn a corner. Said waiter was a gentleman, though, and walked us there since it was dark and we weren't quite sure where it was. So that was nice. I'd go back. Hopefully the dirty glass was just a fluke. :)

Was enjoying the downtown Livermore vibe and decided to hop on in for some yummy grub. We were very impressed by the courteous service and the tasty portions. The food was extremely flavorful and the dolmas were on point. Will definitely be returning when in the area again.

Honestly, Iam not sure what kind of rice they are using, but for sure the rice isn't basmati. Very dry, old and clumpy. We were seated and immediately we had our server. That's good. After we ordered our food, it about 18-20 mins which I thought was too much. Even though I mentioned this to our waiter, he didn't seem to care but only apologized. The kobideh was salty and the chicken was good. Overall, I won't give this place a 3-5 star.

Meh. Terrible service, took them over 5 mins just to come take our drink order with hardly anyone there, and this pace continued . Dont come here for lunch, they'll get you fired. Babaganoush was bomb. The rest was forgetable. I'll stick with Dimitris when Im cravin some Mediterranean

Very cozy and small rest I was not super hungry but needed to eat something before going home. So my husband was driving livermore downtown, found this place. We tried out. Foods were tasty and simple. Had fish entree and my husband had chicken. Both of our dishes were tasty. Friendly staff and nice decor inside in rest. But, one thing i want to know any complimentary pita bread while we were dining in. I went to several middle eastern restaurants, they are always provided free bread. Hmm..

Messed up order and 30 min wait. They told us our take out would take 15 it was 30. Come to find out that when we picked it up it was sitting there, and after paying they left us hanging, until we asked. The tofu soup was chicken, and my vegan friends ate one bite of chicken until they figured it out. The food was decent, I would give it 4 stars, but the service is bad.

We had dinner here with my daughter, her husband, and their two kids ages 2 and 4. Dining out with kids that age can be problematic but the staff was very aware of the fact that we needed to be served quickly to avoid melt downs. The food was very good and prices were reasonable. I had the lamb shank which was excellent - well seasoned and tender. Everyone else like their food also. Casbah has a reasonable selection of wines and beer. I have eaten at many mediterranean or middle eastern style restaurants and I would rank this one highly. I would definitely return to sample some of their other offerings.

Been here twice and was impressed by both the delicious food and service! I really like that everyone you see here greets you. As we were leaving, one of the guys that works there even went out of his way to open the door for us as we left. How often do you see that? So sweet. I like to order the Green Salad as my starter - the dressing is just how I make it at home, so I really enjoy it. The kalamata olives are seriously my favorite part. I have tried the Chicken Suvlaki and this past weekend, the Moroccan Chicken Kebob. The chicken (for both dishes) is incredibly well marinated and is just so tender and juicy...and I'm totally craving it right now as I think about it. The portions are rather large, as you get several chunks of white meat chicken, basmati rice, some vegetables, and a side of tzatziki sauce (sooo good). Both times I've been here I've told myself that I wouldn't be able to finish the food (esp b/c I get a starter), but as I'm walking back to my car huffing and puffing from being so full that I can't breath, I never regret it. I can't recall her name, but our server was so friendly. She kept coming by to check on us and thanks to her, I tried the Moroccan chicken b/c she said it was her favorite. If you've skimmed through this review (I know I write a lot) just know that you should try this place. You will enjoy it and you'll keep coming back. I can't wait to return!

I'm not sure if our experience is typical, but we came here around 1 pm on a Saturday and waited almost an hour for our food. The funny thing is, it was raining that day so no one was sitting outside . . . you would think the food would be fast since half the seating was unavailable. The manager apologized and brought out hummus and pita for us to munch on, which was nice. The pita bread is really thick, and I prefer it to be thinner, but at least it was free. By the time our food arrived, we had already filled up on pita bread so we got most of it to go. Food was ok, but the wait was way too long.

My wife, daughter and I went here Saturday night before the Livermore Christmas parade. The server was attentive despite the heavy patron load. Food came faster than expected and the serving sizes were on par with the prices. Found all the meats to be tender and tasty. Sauces were flavorful and presentation was clean. A solid example of quality in downtown Livermore.

Flavorful mixed appetizer platter for two of which the falafel was the highlight. Samosa was bland and the associated dipping sauce was a bit watery. Enjoyed the Persian kabob (beef and lamb blend) accompanied by basmati rice and flat bread. The kabob was plated with grease, however, which was not appealing and would have liked a leaner kabob with a more flavorful mix. Service was attentive and friendly. Ambience still has the feel of the pizza restaurant which preceded it which takes away from the authenticity.

3.75 stars. Came w/ daughter and Bestie for lunch. Located a little ways from the busiest part of 1st street, this quaint middle eastern eatery is dishing a mix of Persian, Greek, Turkish eats. Food is fresh and flavorful. We started with the hummus served with toasted pita. The hot pita triangles were the perfect vehicle for the garlicky dip. The favorite was Bestie's Persian Sauté...marinaded chicken tossed with basmati rice, fresh herbs, and citrus. Delicious. My Persian kabob plate was good too...served the traditional way with roasted tomato, saffron basmati rice, and sprinkled with sumac. Daughter did the French Riviera pasta...pasta, chicken, and baby wild mushrooms in a flavorful herb cream sauce. Our server Ariane was warm, friendly, and attentive from the minute we walked in. She had great suggestions and made us feel taken care of.

Definitely one of my favorite restaurants. I'm not even kidding, the Mediterranean chicken kabob is probably the best fish I've ever tasted. The prices are reasonable, and the saffron rice is delicious!

Randomly stumbled across this place looking for a quick bite. I'm a fan of Mediterranean so I wanted to see how this place would be. This review is predominantly based on the specific dish I ordered. I ended up being adventurous and trying the Turkish Stuffed Eggplant (Beef). It's basically a big part of the eggplant stuffed with all these fixins, all in a tomato based sauce, served over rice. The dish didn't meet my expectations. I enjoyed the stuffing, but the eggplant itself wasn't really seasoned or marinated. There's a lot of eggplant so if you ran out of the stuffing, you'd be left with the blandness of the eggplant and rice. It wasn't bad, but not having the spices I'm used to in a dish like this really made it unmemorable. Also, it didn't help that I had to wait 20-25 minutes for it. Though pluses, include my servers. They checked in with me from time to time. It's a nice quaint little spot. So I'd bump this up to more of a 2.5 stars. I want to be hopeful and think that if I stuck to dishes I were more familiar with, I would have had a better experience. I'd be willing to give it another go if I were in the area.w

First of all, AWESOME! The category for this restaurant should include "vegan". Finally a place in Livermore that offers a delicious vegan option clearly stated on the menu. Second, the service was OUTSTANDING especially Josh, attention to detail knowing the menu, how items are prepared, and the ingredients of each dish, rare to find these a server who actually appreciates the patron. If you are vegan, vegetarian, or neither this place is a MUST go, if only for dessert (Coconut Pie) or an appetizer (a must is the Baba Ganush). GO! The draft beer, Porter, was full bodied, slight bitter with a hint of chocolate, very very good. We had the Fesenjan and Mediterranean Stir-Fry, both done to perfection. If you go to the Vine Cinema and decided to have dinner the Casbah just 1/2 block from the cinema. The Casbah is a jewel and vegan choice in Livermore.

I have to say the service was great, but unfortunately the food wasn't that great. I grew up eating middle easter/mediterrenean food and I can name a few places in the east bay, SF, and Sac that rock!! I might come back again and try different things off the menu, hopefully it's better!

Came in today for dinner after a bit of an absence, and our go to gal 'Felisha" was there working a packed house on her her own, but was later joined by two other servers for the dinner rush. So happy to see this place is finally catching on for local dining! I brought my sister who has to have a Gluten free diet, and from our previous experience while talking to Felisha as well as the owner, I knew this place is one of the few who actually cater to customers who have the same, and are more than willing to provide a delicious meal based on their needs even if it is off their menu. Despite the crowd, she remembered me and was comical, warm and gracious. Something not typically found in most restaurants. My sister enjoyed a most wonderful eggplant stew with their yummy basmati rice while my husband. who can eat anything. had the lamb shank, which by the way was nothing but bone well before I finished my meal. I ordered the Fesenjan and was quite content, I thank the chef, owner, and Felisha for the outstanding food and service, and have become a Casbah "groupie".

The first time we went to Casbah, we had fantastic service and were waited on like royalty. The server brought us extra pita bread that was toasted to go with our hummus and was so attentive. The food was great, so we decided to come again. The second time, our server was nowhere near as attentive as the server we had the first time. He failed to toast our pita bread and brought us a bowl of hummus with some dripping down the side of the bowl. The food was decent. The gyros meat is good, but it was strange that they chopped it up. Their tzatziki is delicious. Their food is authentic and good, and it's good for lunch. Their kabob and chicken plates are also good. I would recommend this place for cheaper greek and persian cuisine.

Great new restaurant in downtown Livermore. Authentic Persian food at very reasonable prices! They staff is very friendly and the food is very high quality- tasty! I would recommend this place to anybody in the area. Apparently, they have been catering and serving at festivals for years and just opened this restaurant a few days ago. Check it out!

My husband and I went there last weekend and loved it. We sat outside and had lunch on the patio (Small but very comfortable). The food was fresh, not too spicy and really good. The prices are very reasonable. We look forward to going back soon. Wish there were more places like this in Livermore.

Ive only been to Casbah once, but I will be back! I went with a coworker for lunch and the service was excellent. My dining companion asked if she could have an half an appetizer for her meal and not only did they accommodate but they split the price in half too (who does that anymore?) I had the salmon lunch and took half of it back with me because the portion was pretty big. Everything was very tasty and we felt very welcomed and taken care of. I hope to bring the hub there for dinner sometime soon!

Run, Don't Walk to CASBAH, next to Zephyr in downtown Livermore. We just tried lunch. Belly dancing tonight but might skip that. Okay. What did we try? Moroccan carrot salad Lebanese tabuli Skewered saffron chicken breast on Saffron Basmati Rice Roasted whole tomato and chopped parsley Combo platter - beef shwarma, pieces of skewered saffron chicken breast Fresh-made Baba Ghanoush and hummus Yogurt-cucumber sauce Excellent pita Morrocan drink of water, lime, cucumber, and mint (I drank two whole glasses!) Sumac on everything! Plenty to bring home. Place was crowded when we arrived at 12:30p. Very friendly. Service is still being shaped up, but okay to ask for what you need. (Vegetarians - should find things to eat!)

We really enjoy the Casbah. I had the most wonderful ahi tuna and coucous this week. Bright, fresh flavors with 2 sauces on the side. Yumm. They offer a great selection of vegetarian dishes which are sometimes even better than the meat ones - this is a true testiment from a die hard meat lover!!! The service is great. Bring your own wine for a great low corkage fee! I have yet to be disappointed with anything I have tried.

Hubby and I came in on a Friday afternoon. The place was empty, so we were promptly seated. The service was very good, the food came out very quickly. It was delicious, very fresh! Hubs got the lamb gyro, his only complaint was not enough pita for all the lamb on the plate. I got the falafel platter, which was super yummy. Oh, and we had dolmeh for an appetizer- the best I've tasted in a long time. Great, affordable food right next to the Vine? We will definitely return!

I came here on a mission. Hoping for good food, and hoping to get some belly dancing entertainment. I got my husband all involved shoving dollars bills here and there. HA! It was fun. It's a smaller restaurant than what I thought, and thankfully I didn't have to use the girls room. It would be bothersome to have to grab the key and use the facilities outside. We started with some hummus which was good, and seemed to have quite a bit of garlic. I had the Casbah Cooler which was water with cucumber and lime. It was refreshing I suppose, interesting flavor with the strong influence of cucumber. I ordered the Gyro which I found to be wonderfully seasoned, and quite frankly one of the better Gyro's I have had. The dish arrived not assembled, but I found it nice to be able to make it myself adding as much of an ingredient as I wanted into my pita bread. Sort of like fajitas I suppose. Hubby had the salmon, and I only tasted a bite. He wasn't thrilled and really...it was nothing amazing. It was overdone for such a thin piece. Quite frankly we both whip up a marvelous salmon at home and this couldn't even hold a candle to what we can do. Sorry :( The service was outstanding! Really some of the better service we've had in a while. How often are you at a restaurant, and they offer a sample of something because you have never had it before? Just about never. Our waiter was very attentive and saw to our every need.

Wednesday night, no crowd. Excellent food, flavors, staff. Starter with the mirza which we both thought could be ameal in itself, not much survived and had to replenish the pita it was so good. Tried the combo appetizers too. Nice presentation, dolmas were tender and full of flavor, the chicken was very tender, the falafal seemed a little salty, but the sauces were nice-- baba ganoush smokiness was almost an after thought, very subtle. The staff was very accomodating on modifying the dinners, and nicely sustituted the lamb gyro for chicken paprika that was superb and in quantity. The mediterranean stir fry from the lunch menu was expanded on request for dinner and was huge and scrumtious. No room for dessert. We will be back

I'm vegetarian and wasn't very hungry. I thought order babaganush would be a safe bet. I've had babaganush many times and wasn't sure about what was delivered. It was a runny, heavily garlic'd and didn't have any taste. I didn't taste any eggplant. Would recommend a recalibration of the recipe. On top of that, the waitress who greeted me and my friend said, "those seats are for belly dancers" in a rough sorta way. It was nice that when they saw neither I or my partner ate the dip and didn't want it to go, they took it off the bill.

We were really disappointed with this place, having read the Yelp reviews before we went. I know that service is mostly dependent on the server that you get, but it didn't help that we got the bad one. Some of the indoor tables (not all of them) are so close that you almost rub elbows with the people at the adjacent table. It sure inhibits conversation with your dining partner when you feel like you're in on the conversation at the next table. And they're in on yours. And then there's the belly dancing. If I want entertainment, I'll go to a place that specializes in entertainment. I certainly have no objection to a good looking navel, just not when I have a fork in my hand and a mouth full of food. Another Yelper (below) says that you're supposed to tip them. Here's a tip. Turn down the volume. How am I supposed to hear the conversation at the next table with that music playing, lol. This place is incorrectly categorized by Yelp as Mediterranean. Mediterranean restaurants serve lots more vegetables on the plate. This is a typical Middle Eastern restaurant with mostly meat and rice plates. That little slice of tomato on some (not all) plates isn't nearly enough to make it "Mediterranean". I guess the marketing guy figured out that the word "Mediterranean" sells. But the menu (and the belly dancing) says differently.

This restaurant just opened up in January and I'm hoping it stays for a while! They are working on getting their liquor license, it'll be interesting to see what kind they'll end up having. We went on a Saturday night. The food was really good! My friends had the combo and salmon, I had the kabob. Everything was really tasty and the service was great. The owner came by with complimentary yougurt dipping with pita bread slices - very yummy! They also had a belly dancer there, very cool!

Loved the appetizers here! Finally, hummus and baba ganoush that isn't puckery sour. We had mirza for the first time and it was intensely flavored with garlic and tomatoes: we will be ordering this again. I love that they have fesenjan on the menu, though we didn't get a chance to try it. My husband had the salmon which was perfectly cooked, both moist and flavorful. A small gripe is that it was advertised as wild but it looked farmed (color, fat, texture)...maybe I'm wrong, and we certainly didn't mind if it were farmed. I had the Turkish kebab which was good, but not as fully spiced as I was expecting. The service is attentive and kind. We are sure to frequent this place in the future, especially the appetizers.

My wife and I have gone to Casbah 10-15 times over the last year as the food has been good, it's healthy, prices are reasonable, and it's next to the wonderful Vine Theatre. I would have rated it four stars until yesterday. It was a one star meal. We ordered two more recent menu items; first, spinach salad, which had an extremely sweet dressing which drenched the spinach. We gagged down about half of it. Second, we were excited to see spanakopita on the menu. It came out in a few minutes (should take much longer). Then we saw that it was fried-not just fried, but dripping in oil. The waiter, Chris, who was great, took it back and said that the chef would fix it. It came out a few minutes later, slightly less greasy but still way too much oil. He comped it. I ordered the Moroccan chicken. Rice was good. Chicken was a bit dry but OK. It wasn't trimmed well, and I got a big chunk of tendon from the breast. I hope our experience yesterday was a glitch, but given the deplorable food, we won't be going back anytime soon to find out.

The food is great and the service is even better. I came 30 min before they open and knocked on the door. The chief came and said you are 30 min early but I can cook for you. Try their casba cooler which is refreshing. It's like water with cucumbers, mint and something sweet. I would say better then sweet tea. I tried their Persian kabab and it was great.

Great staff and wonderful service. The food was good, but not great. I had the gyro and the meat was well cooked, the tzatziki sauce was a bit bland. Not enough pitas for the meat. Overall, a good gyro, but not a great one. Husband got the platter and had a similar experience. If only the food matched the wonderful service.

We ate here tonight after friends recommended it to us. We LOVED it! We really like Mediterranean food, and my husband could probably live on falafel. We had the beef kabobs, the falafel platter and the garlic-lime kebab. The food was absolutely amazing - we had no complaints and were well satisfied when we left. Criticisms: I would have loved an olive/pickle appetizer, and their hummus is not as smooth as I prefer, nor as lemony. That said, I am still giving it five stars for incredible food, terrific service, and great, reasonable prices. PS - the belly dancer was a treat - beautiful and talented and friendly. We really enjoyed the show along with the terrific food.

I really enjoyed both the dinners I had here. Each time, we've ordered a main dinner dish and the vegetarian appetizer platter, and that has been plenty to eat. The lamb chops were delicious and well seasoned, perhaps a bit fatty but it is after all a lamb chop. The garlic yogurt dip is what I was dreaming about before our return trip. So tasty, and I am still garlicky 2 hours later (a plus in my book, maybe not in everyone's). Lots of variety. I was glad to see the place was quite busy tonight (Friday). Keep up the good work!

we had the peruvian kebob and mediterranean stir fry lunch specials. they both tasted above average and the portions for lunch and price are good. i would go back.

Casbah is fantastic! What a great place in Livermore. The food is outstanding and the service can't be beat. The Humus is out of this world! The Greek Salad is the most refreshing salad I've ever had. Their Iced Tea is very unique. The only draw-back is my wife loves Casbah so much I'm regularly asked to go get food to go.

This place is a gem - don't hesitate. You will not get better service anywhere! We've eaten here several times now. There was a problem with my meal tonight and Benjamin came out himself and took care of everything. It was obvious that he wanted very much for me to be pleased with the food. I was! Then he insisted on free dessert for us. Don't miss ordering the Mediterranean bread pudding or the Baklava - so delicious.

I'm not one to leave a bad review for a restaurant in my hometown, but WOW, was this a bad dinner. My husband and I arrived for dinner and were steered away from the one open table in the entire place as it was "reserved" and told to sit at the bar. There were 2 seats available at the bar, about 9 seats apart. I asked where we should sit, whereupon we were conducted to the very same "reserved" table which was suddenly free. We ordered dinner, falafel for me, and roasted chicken kabobs for him. My falafel plate came, not as I ordered in a wrap, but as an open plate, 6 falafel balls on a bed of wilted cabbage, dry as a bone, reminding me of a dog biscuit, served with sauce. They were served with a small side of tasteless hummus. I asked for a side of tahini, and siracha, in order to try to make it palatable, but to no avail. My husband's chicken dinner entree was dry, and the rice that it was plated on had no seasoning or flavor. All in all we were glad that we had tried this restaurant as a "Screamin Daily Deal" coupon, and found it not even worth the coupon price. We won't be back.

This is far and away the best Mediterranean food I've had yet in the Tri-Valley - and I'm quite a fan of all stripes of Mediterranean food. Great flavors, very reasonable, all dishes well-prepared. Even my daughter loved their Tzatziki - and herbed yogurt and cucumbers are not a taste that's ordinarily a success with the young crowd. The ONLY reason I'm not giving it five stars is that I'd like to see a bit more variety on the menu eventually. And beet pickles. Love beet pickles. Overall though, it was a great place, the owner and the waitress were both very friendly, and the waitress took part in our family banter in a very friendly way.

We had an amazing experience! We were wine tasting in Livermore--familiar grounds, but we don't live in the area. Serious vegans, we checked HappyCow and decided to try Casbah. We're very glad we did. The saffron rice was perfection, as were the dolmeh and Med stir-fry. Benjamin (owner) treated us to a special serving of FESENJAN, a fruity, nutty, vegan soy mixture that was as good as it gets! We felt as if we were guests in his home. The restaurant serves only Livermore Valley wines. I would give 6 stars if I could.

Mediocre at best. I'm Persian and if you want good Persian food, keep looking. The dinner meals are priced as high any first class Persian restaurant, but the beef is tough, and I couldn't believe how clumpy the rice was. The gyros are okay though and they give you lots of bread and the mast and baba ganoush portions were generous.

My friend and I decided to go because it was close to the pottery place and my friend is also a vegetarian and was excited because there were several choices on the menu. I was deciding between the Persian Kebob or the Mediterranean stir fry. The server told me that the Persian Kebob was made with GROUND Beef mostly and not much lamb and that it was MOLDED onto a skewer, which didn't sound that great as I was expecting the meat to be in pieces so I decided to order the Mediterranean Stir Fry. Which turned out not to be a good choice either. The first ingredient listed was eggplant but when the dish came out there was one lonely piece. The majority of the dish consisted of cabbage. Also the chicken and the basmati rice were extremely dry. I was glad at least that we had placed an order for Dolma's which the server completely forgot to bring until I mentioned them and it wasn't even busy. My vegetarian friend did like her lunch and the cucumber lime water was a hit. Other than that I will not be returning to Casbah Kitchen.

I like the vegetarian plates surprisingly ( i love meat). I have tried the hummus and pita and vegetarian stir fry. Both are good.

This place was amazing. First the food was great and the staff including Josh, Ben, Eddie (think I got the names correct) were unbelievably attentive and provided amazing service. And importantly for me, I was looking for a restaurant that served gluten free food as myself, and especially my friend cannot eat gluten. So many restaurants have one gluten free dish, Casbah had 3/4 of the entire menu gluten free. And for one of the appetizers that was served on pita (which has gluten) they specially prepared it for us to make it gluten free. These folks went out of their way to accommodate our special dietary needs and the food was FANTASTIC! Our server Josh provided amazing service and was genuinely friendly as were the owners. The dishes we had were absolutely fabulous. Whether you care about gluten or not, the food was top notch. If you do have a gluten free diet this is the best food with a huge selection. For those with dietary gluten restrictions, these folks even cook the gluten free food with untensils that are only used for gluten free cooking. Now how many places do you know that would make such an effort for their customers? This is the kind of 5 star service we got.

The food is quite good, the portions ample and it is inexpensive. You can eat healthy food in a charming little cafe. The owner is there and takes care of his customers. They feature all Livermore wines. I will definitely go back.

We have eaten here many times and always had good food and good service. Tonight must have been the "B" crew, as service was pleasant, but very, very slow. The food was also not as good as it has been in previous visits, and the portions seemed to be smaller. Also, I remembered the gyros having rice, tonight was just served with cabbage. Unfortunately, we also didn't realize it was the belly dancing night. Although the concept is a nice idea, it is too small of an area for this and the music way too loud. We were not able to talk after it started, plus it was not a great belly dancer (sorry, don't mean to be unkind, but I have seen better). I am hoping this was an anomaly, as my husband and I truly have enjoyed the previous meals we have had here. We have met the owner and he is a wonderful man and like I said, always had great food before.

My husband and I are always looking for new places to dine. A friend told us about Casbah and we are glad she did. We stopped in for dinner and we were both pleasantly surprised. Serving staff were very helpful and friendly and the menu had a wide range of traditional Mediterrerain dishes as well as some that normally are not seen. We started off with a salad which consisted of fresh tomatoes, onions, feta, and a nice lemon herb vinaigrette. For entrees, I had the grilled salmon with basmati rice and my husband had the kebob combo platter. The salmon was seasoned with a nice blend of mediterrerain spices and cooked perfectly. My husband's kebab platter was enormous with 3-4 different kinds of meat, rice, and grilled vegetables. After dinner we enjoyed live entertainment and decided to try a dessert. We shared some homemade Persian ice cream I think the flavors were pistachio and coconut. Both were amazing. This is now on our regular list of places to dine.

1st time diner at the Casbah and I have to say, I was surprised. My wife and I frequent Zephyr which is right across the walkway and were always curious since it opened. Curiosity satisfied. Clean restaurant, efficient and friendly service, and well seasoned/cooked food made for a pleasant early dinner. Portions are appropriate and very reasonably priced. I would like to try them again to see if they're consistent in food and service. Many places suffer from this issue these days, even Zephyr. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

I was so excited to find such a vegan friendly restaurant in Livermore. We had the Fesenjan (pomegranate/walnut/soy meatballs) & Gheymeh (split peas/potatoes/soy meatballs). Both were excellent. Since it was kind of slow we had very nice conversations with both the server & the owner. The owner was so nice & excited that we liked his veggie entrees--he even comp'd us some hummus which was REALLY good. Sure wish this place had been here when I lived in Livermore, but will definitely be a stop for me when I come out wine tasting!

I have the lamb/beef kebab. It was good, not dry at all. They did a great job grilling it. The yogurt sauce is so refreshing with the meat. It was a very nice lunch. Very kid friendly place.

I am little picky when it comes to meat. I do the usual chicken, beef, pork, seafood...NOT lamb or goat..... I was very happy that the staff were very accommodating to that request so they had not problem substituting the beef/lamb kebob for an all beef kebob instead (even though I ended up eating a piece of the beef/lamb gyro by mistake). I'm not quite ready for lamb just yet. It was a good piece. I had the combo #1 meal- all the meats were good & tasty. I think the rice was a little bland but good enough. I will definitely be back! Price was good too!

Me and my fella went here on a Saturday night and we really liked it. His favorite was the lamb, I had the falafel and it was mighty tasty. We had the baklava for dessert and it was heavenly! A nice touch- food is labeled vegan and vegetarian on the menu. Great service and tasty food, will definitely go back!

Been here several times and it always pleases. This last trip we had a great dinner for 4 and 1/2. The waiter was great and even brought out an extra bowl of cucumbers for my daughter. The food is all top notch. Service is laid back sometimes but we are never in a rush when we dine here.

Good food and good value. Loved everything I tried. The combination meat plate is large enough to share and still take some home. The gyro's plate is huge and you make your own sandwiches (or whatever you call it) instead of preassembled sandwiches. Indifferent on the ice cream.

I have been here 3 or 4 times to eat. Once we grabbed take out for later. (I was craving it and wasn't hungry around the customary dinner time but wanted it "at the ready" for when I did want to eat it later at home.) My boyfriend is vegetarian and has no problem finding food he likes and I have thoroughly enjoyed any of the dishes I have eaten. The ambiance is nice and the staff provides great customer service. Overall, a wonderful, rather casual dining experience. One of the times we were there another table asked about making accommodations for someone with celiac disease. The server was very communicative with them as to what they could make (there were a few options) and they had no problem using separate pans, cooking utensils, etc. which I understand is very important for someone who has celiac disease in terms of being able to eat the food without issue. I highly recommend this place.

After working a wedding, it was the end of the day and we wanted to get a bite to eat and just relax. We came across Casbah. We are Vegan/vegetarians and were pleasantly surprised on their extensive vegetarian options. I love the mix of Greek, Turkish, Persian influence in their dishes. I had an eggplant vegan stew. The spices in the sauce was mouth watering. My husband also ordered an eggplant vegetarian dish and we just couldn't make up our mind which one was better. The staff were exceptional. We never felt hurried but they attended to our needs and wishes with a "Smile". Oh and on Sundays they have live entertainment. Now that's a plus. There was 2 guys performing. One playing a keyboard with lots of instruments and another singing. They were really good together and it was a great way to unwind. We didn't want the music to stop. I heard they have belly dancing once a month. I definitely want to go back.

This is one of our favorite family oriented (yet elegant) restaurants in Livermore. Last night we went to celebrate our son's 11th birthday. He actually specifically requested Casbah Cafe for his birthday which is highly unusual as he's a pretty picky eater preferring only cheese burgers and fries. I had the Fesenjan, which is a soy meat ball cooked in a wonderfully aromatic sauce and served out on fragrant rice. My wife had the mixed kabob platter which she shared with our kids. My kids also had the Gyros, Caspian fish kebab, and chick strips. We polished off our meal feeling full, satisfied, and very pleased with the service. Can't wait to go back.

Small, cozy atmosphere, Dolma and Burani are good appetizers. Lots of Entrees selections. Food was A-OK. The Ruby Hill Cab. was excellent and the service I have to tell you was top notch. I don't think it would be good for groups, at least not over 6 as the dining area is pretty small. On the other hand it is pretty cozy and intimate for a couple or couple of couples.

My first time eating here and everything was great! The Food was fresh and vibrant, and the service was attentive and considerate. I happened to read a review by JN, and was baffled at the posting. I can completely understand why a restaurant would be critical to anyone bringing in food other than their own while eating at THEIR establishment. I know of few restaurants that would condone it. First of all, it looks bad to any other customers that may dine there to see that another patron thinks so little of what they have to offer that they have to bring in outside food, and secondly, the fact they were allowed to remain seems to reflect a great deal of consideration. If they we allowed to stay, yet informed to please not do so in the future, then kudos to the owner. I think they where in the right. It's their restaurant, and who brings their own food into it? What's the point? When you go out to eat, you eat what is prepared there, not what you bring in . Update... Came back again for the Gormeh Sabzi during the Amgen Tour, and I have to say that as busy as it was, and the restaurant was packed, the server was very cordial, but you could tell they were under staffed, but the food was great as always, and the service, though a bit compromised due to the volume of diners versus staff on hand, was still cordial. I have no complaints and will come back for the stuffed Eggplant as recommended. I thank the owner for considering a menu that appeals to those of us who prefer something without meat, and is flavorful and satisfying.

My hubby and I tried this place for the first time tonight and were pleasantly surprised. Even though they were packed, with only four bar seats left when we walked in, we were greeted right away. Right off the bat, we loved that the setting was quaint and the atmosphere casual. I ordered the Mediterranean chicken (at the suggestion of our waiter) and my hubby had a gyro, then we finished off our meal with baklava. Despite the fact that they had a packed house, we got our food in a decent amount of time. Everything was delicious and definitely exceeded our expectations. We also loved that the staff was upbeat, friendly and attentive. We definitely plan on returning!

Food is amazing. Interior is ok, but they don't have the most comfortable chairs. The restaurant is very small and fills up rather quickly, but that didn't really bother me. Service was fine. My water glass (actually, I believe it was a jar) never went empty. I will definitely come here in the future when I'm in Livermore and craving some healthy Mediterranean food.

Went here shortly after it opened for dinner with my husband. If you're looking for Greek/Lebanese/Middle Eastern food, this is a good place. They also have a great vegetarian selection. We were greeted warmly by the host and got attentive service throughout. Food was good. The variety of items on the menu made it a little tough to order (and that was a good thing!). Started off with the Mirza - think rich baba ganouj. It had eggplant, roasted garlic, some tomato and custardy scrambled egg, served on pita. We'd never heard of it, and the owner said it was named after the person who invented it (last name of Mirza). We didn't know what to expect, but it was really good! My husband, a picky eater, ate most of his share. The only reason we didn't finish it was to save room for dinner. At $4 and such a huge portion, this was a super bargain. Hubby had the persian kabob. It was well seasoned, cooked nicely, and more tender than others I've tried elsewhere. One was cooked perfectly, but the other was a little underdone (minus a half a point). The rice was fluffy. He didn't eat his roasted/grilled tomato because he's "a crispy tomato fan." I had the falafel plate which came with pita, tzatziki, hummus, and tabbouleh. The falafel were smaller than I'm used to, but made up for it by serving about five or six on my plate. They were not the least bit greasy and were nice and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside - the texture wasn't as "crumby" as I'm used to, but the flavor was nice - the sesame seeds and fresh herbs showed through. Tzatziki (yogurt sauce) was nicely seasoned with bits of grated cucumber and chopped herbs. Hummus had a lot more tahini and lemon than I'm used to - the flavor was good, although texture was a bit uneven and not as smooth as I'd like. Tabbouleh was forgettable - the parsley and tomatoes didn't taste very fresh (I didn't take it home - minus a half a point). They have no liquor license as of yet. The hub had water and I had the Persian yogurt drink. Think salty lassi with mint. It wasn't homemade, but I liked it. After dinner the owner came and talked to us. Turns out he's from northern Iran. He explained how Mirza came about, the different types of kabobs, and the culture of his home county. He seemed like a nice man that was genuinely interested in what we thought of the food. All in all, we plan to go back. My husband, not the most adventurous eater, said there were other items on the menu he wants to try. Same for me - I'm looking forward to the rosewater ice cream.

My wife and I finally found the quaint place on First St. that we have been looking for!! Casbah is awesome because you can either be seated at a table for more private dining or you can sit at the bar which overlooks the kitchen, cooking , and all the culinary activities. The owner is always present and so friendly as all the staff is!!!!!, The food is... well...awesome as well, no matter what your taste! We had the delicious Mediterranean Combo platter and Greek salad..And it was fabulous! Thanks guys!!!

great fresh food mostly organic and reasonable priced. I tried the mix of the many vegetarian sides, and a variety of their meats. My partner loved the lamb and I loved the Gyro and had the best fresh Falafels ever! And, on Sundays and Thursday they have wonderful belly dancers too. So, go for great food, friendly staff and a fun environment that won't break your wallet. I will go back for many more meals for sure!

Casbah - I love this place! The food is fresh with wonderful flavors starting with the refreshing dressing on the Greek salad to the deliciously flavored Kabobs. I usually don't like hummus but this is one I can't get enough of... There are so many things I have yet to try on the menu and can't wait to get to them all. Next up is the Grilled Eggplant on the recommendation of Josh. Every time I've gone in the service has been friendly and continuously welcoming, the staff always seems to want to make sure that every visit is memorable and all expectations are exceeded. I love the quaint atmosphere it's unpretentious and brings such a comfortable feeling weather I am eating their or just grabbing a wonderful lunch/dinner to bring home. Keep up the great work, it's wonderful to have a restaurant in Livermore that continuously provides great tasting food.
