This place is magical: delicious, cheap pastries right across a small street from my friend's place? Huge bonus The cheese rolls are to die for. The meat pies are savory little pockets of heaven. The fluffy potato balls are well, flavor bombs. The good kind. And the prices here can't be beat. Take that, overpriced SF!

Awesome bakery. Always delicious and fresh. The lines while long move at a fairly decent pace.

lines and wait...porto's pick-up a grueling task for other...sampling of cheesecakes, standard cakes and sinfully delicious potato meatballs...delicious...desserts moist and tasteful...fried potato balls can't be healthy...golden brown and perfectly round...crispy battered shell...bursting with smooth creamy mashed potato next...bite deeper and find seasoned ground meat filled glory...slight taste of curry spices...definitely rich...definitely unhealthy...definitely delicious...

There's always a line...not sure if it's because it lacks staffing or just disorganized. Food is just ok your best bet are potato balls and meat pies.

madness! only way to describe this place. just general chaos once you get inside. but once you figure it out, the pastries are delicious! i would avoid weekend morning/lunch times, but pastries are worth it.

  • Tracy S.

Came here upon a recommendation from a friend. Ordered the macchiato and it was spot on. Uber delicious! The pastries that I got however were a disappointment. I expected to taste something out of this world but was hit with pastries that were average. You can get the same quality at the local Costco store.

What keeps me coming back here is the cheese rolls and how cheap it is. Whenever I come to visit SoCal going to Porto's required because they are so good!

A great bakery & cafe shop! The price is amazing. There are always lots of people in here, very crowded. I think maybe they can enhance their way to sell breads. It will be a lot faster if the customers can pick up breads by ourselves while staying in line. Then they only need to add breads to the shelves, and do the cashier's work. I'm not sure why they didn't choose this way, but I think this will improve the experience a lot.

Went to order a cake and I asked for a cake with no vanilla extract and they told me all of their cake have vanilla extract and they can not change anything for me. I went to bakery to order some sweets I asked the people who worked there if the cakes and sweets has any vanilla extract they told no?! Anyway I tried a couple of their sets but it was nothing special and it was too sweet and it didn't worth the wait.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE! This place never disappoints! And it is worth every single minute you stay in line! My favs: -Milk and berry cake : YOU SHOULD TRY THIS -Potato balls -Flan Tips: If you need to buy a cake, save yourself some time and go directly to the "cake only" line. Don't be afraid to try something new every time. Everything tastes so good that you won't regret trying it!

I've been coming here basically my entire life and it has always stayed high quality and delicious. Coming here is dangerous because once you have a taste you'll be craving more all the time! Highly recommend coming here as long as you're prepared to wait in the lines (which can get quite ridiculous during prime hours/weekends/holidays, but it's totally worth it)!

My legal assistant got me a strawberry cheesecake from here for my Birthday and it was amazing, one of the best cheesecakes I've ever add, plus it was really well decorated. It had a happy birthday sign made out of dark and white chocolate. See the pics. We also ordered some of the potato balls, which are to die for.

I dream about CHEESE ROLLS...... If you're ever in LA, since most of my yelp friends are not from CA.... this place is a MUSTTTTTTT GO!! The cheese rolls are the only things memorable to me.... I hear the cakes are pretty amazing though. The potato balls are OKAY, not my thang. Be prepared for long lines, and to send a couple cheese rolls my way! ;-)

  • Judy A.

Although parking here is a total disaster, it can't stop me from going to Porto's. I love their potatoe balls and cheeserolls too much to give them up just because of parking. The veggie sandwich is pretty good too.

This place is just full of people. The cheese rolls and the guava pastry is pretty damn amazing. I mean, for some it might not be worth the wait but for me it was. Parking is not bad, people are always coming and going so street parking is available. Great for a saturday or sunday breakfast if you can get a table

CANNOT GO WRONG with ANYTHING you order here. that's it, that's all i have to say. oh! also, in my opinion...the glendale location has better tasting food than the burbank one for some reason.

I've been going here since as long as I can remember, and it will forever be a favorite. It's hard to find a place where you honestly love every single thing on the menu. Their pastries, sandwiches, cakes, drinks, everything is delicious. I especially love their fruit tart (best I've ever had), guava cheese strudel, and potato balls, but really anything you get will probably be good. I've had most of their sandwiches, which are all great, but I always end up returning to their classic cuban sandwich. Their drinks are surprisingly delicious too and their pina colada has always been my favorite. Beware though, the lines are crazy especially on weekends. It can seem chaotic but everyone knows that's part of the routine and after going for so many years, you just come to accept it. Parking is awful too, but you'll eventually find a spot and make sure you check in the parking lot behind portos.

Porto's Porto's Porto's....Let me count the ways you make me say YUM! ;) But let me keep this short and sweet UNLIKE the Porto's lines lol. Bistec Sandwich = good Grilled chicken sandwich = good Spinach and cheese croissant = yum! Chai Latte = liquid yum! Tres Leches = mmmmm! Cheese rolls = delicious! Guava cheese rolls = even more delicious! dulce de leche napoleon!!! = OMG! Yep, I wish I lived in Glendale hehe ;-)

i've been to the porto's in Downey, and the service at that location was good, but the Glendale store exceeded my expectations. Secondly, the cheese roll at the Glendale store was more savory and sweet. SOOOOOO GOOOOD i highly, highly recommend: - the potato ball - the cheese roll - the meat pie (it was so flaky and delicious) - the fruit tart haven't tried their cakes yet, but can't wait til i do! :D

By far the best pastrami ever!!! Been coming here since I met my wife 16 years ago and her family since they came from Cuba over 30 years ago. Just ordered my sons cake from here as we do every year and Karen once again was extremely help with whole thing!

  • Michael F.

Too fast paced. My first time here, I ordered over $70 of pastries and sandwiches. I told the two people helping me it was my first time here- neither mentioned I had to go to the cafe area to pick up my sandwiches. I get back to the hotel, up the parking garage to my room and no sandwiches. Calling them is basically useless. I drove down again, with 5 hungry kids waiting at the room. No parking this time... got lucky first time around. David is the guy who rang me up and he seemed nice enough but didn't care to correct the problem. They offered cold (supposed to be hot) sandwiches or a wait of at least 10 more minutes. I opted for money back. Not worth the hassle.

  • Eevee S.

The desserts are da real MVP here. So delicious. I also like to get lunch here and have never gotten anything I don't like off the menu! You seriously can't go wrong. The croissants on the turkey croissant are the most buttery flakey amazing croissants ever haha. Banana chips= amazing The only downside is that there is ALWAYS a huge line but it goes by pretty fast. Just don't expect the cashiers to be patient cause they are constantly rushing and I don't blame them. :]

I am commenting on the Wedding Consultation I received. So, separate from the bakery (which is always a zoo). I had an appointment but my consultant was late and kept getting pulled away from us. I know Portos is busy but come on! Im paying a lot of money for a wedding cake, I expect your full attention and a much better selection. My Fiance and I felt rushed and we ended up using Hansens Bakery on Fairfax instead.

  • Sanora A.

Their mango moouse use to be my fave till they changed the recipe, its not as firm or flavorful and no long use a cookie at the bottom. But their cheese rolls are still bomb... Their potato balls are good but I prefer their party bite size ones in stead less filling. I tried their tamale and its good but dont like sweet tamales so I wouldnt get it again. Also tried their chicken empanada but prefer the ones from titos in el monte... I been coming here for years but always try the same things, so my new awww item was the plantain chips... To die for! Try it you would want to share it!. * you do have to pay for parking! Come on right im in socal!

  • C J.

I LUH Portos. The Potato Balls keep me coming back for more. They are literally just shepherds pie wrapped in a fried Panko crust, but they're so damn good. Muh gawd!!! As far as the bakery window goes I just have to sometimes walk away because of all this goodness for the low low. Go in there with $10 you'll feel like a king. The customer service is cool and there's always a meter to park at. Boom

I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. This place is absolutely amazing! I have tried too many food items to name and they are ALL delicious. When my family is in town from back east we go here and everyone is pleased every time ! The prices are beyond reasonable and the quality is out of this world. I will say it can get CROWDED but don't be intimidated by the lines they move fast !

    (5)
  • Jo C.

Ahh, Portos. I don't think they make a single bad thing here. No matter what I've eaten from Portos, it was always amazing. They've expanded and have 2 sides now, probably to alleviate the amount of traffic that this place gets. The lines for this place is UNBELIEVABLE. Even knowing this, I'll put myself through hell waiting in line looking at all the wonderful food... it's quite torturous. They have AWESOME cakes and baked goods. They also make great sandwiches and meat/chicken pies. But whenever I go, I ALWAYS get a few potato balls. They are too delicious to pass up. The prices on them has gone up quite a bit so my wallet gets angry at me when I'm there. If you HATE waiting in line, don't go here 1 hour before and after lunch hours and when they close cause the line is epicly long. Even with the second side. I can tell you that you will not be disappointed, no matter what you get.

    (5)
  • Growling D.

I don't really know what the hype is all about. Good selection but nothing spectacular. You could see the same stuff in smaller, cheaper bakeries in the area. Nice and clean though... very helpful but rushing staff too.

So much to choose from at Portos, great pastries, great samitchs, great desserts. Although there is always a long line its been quick wait. My favorite is the Chicken Croquet!

    (4)
  • Gary M.

Food is great but you only get 5 banana chips on a plate. Used to be more. I asked if that was normal and asked for more. They said no can do. Seriously?

    (2)
  • Sheena S.

With over 2,000 reviews this place is solid. A must stop before making the 5 hour drive back home. Grab a couple of Cubanos and make sure you get a box of cheese rolls, guava cheese rolls, and strawberry pastries for each of your loved ones back in the bay who can only envision the taste of a fresh pastry from the remnants that you bring them back. Can't wait till the end of July to grab my bite because its just been way too long!

    (5)
  • Annie W.

Patience pet..the line will move quickly. There are two lines, so check quickly and go to the shorter one. Guava cheese rolls are my favorite, but I'm also partial to the cheese rolls, apple muffin, chocolate chip cookies, tres leches, mango mousse, fruit tart, tiramisu...everything sweet is so dang good here. Sandwiches are okay, had a tuna sandwich, the croissant was the most enjoyable part. If you eat there, you get plaintain chips with your sandwich. The space is huge, but there are always a ton of people, so good luck.

Every single thing here tastes good. Meat pies!!!! Potato balls!!! Choc covered strawberries!!! My favorite r the cakes Its ususally always crowded but worth waiting

I know the point of Yelp is to review the places you've been to. But I'm going to make the exception just this once for my best friend Kristine Cuevas. After months of convincing, begging, lectures on my obsession with Yelp, my best friend has finally joined the Yelp world! I haven't been to Porto's bakery yet, but Kristine has been raving about it since forever. This is definitely going to be our first stop when I finally get to visit my bff for a weekend this summer! Welcome to the Yelp world Krissy!

You know it's real tasty if there's a line to order! I'm glad I live here in the Americana! It's just a hop, skip and jump to Portos! My Fav's Chocolate croissants (get a dozen) Pear Danish (grab like 6) Potato balls (don't hold back on these) Meat pies (you only need 4) Tamales (just 2...saves room for pastries) Coffee is pretty slap you in the face good! I've also ordered MANY of cakes here for family functions. Just give them at least a week for elaborate decorations! Love the Tres Leches cake and the Mango Mousse!

How dearly I miss this spot since leaving LA- It was dangerous living so close by when I resided in Eagle Rock. Can't comment on the potato balls or any of the sandwiches since I don't eat meat but here is a non-exhaustive list of items that make Porto's my true love: SAVORY: Laredo omelette. Damn, this sandwich always hit the spot on a morning when I wanted to devour serious fatty goodness. House-baked french roll filled w/ piping hot guacamole+black beans+jack cheese+egg? So filling + yummy-- If I ate the whole thing in one shot then you know I was hungover. PASTRIES: I always tried a new pastry every time I went. Obviously everything was good. No matter what I ordered I would always get two raspberry kisses as well ... I'd eat both on the way to the car. Couldn't resist! Both the Lemon + Mango Mousses just melt in your mouth and have such vibrant, light flavor. Opera cake was a fav ... Loved the almond/mocha/cream combo and I always felt classy when I ordered it :) CAKES: I got the Chocolate Grand Marnier Mousse Cake for my cousin's birthday- absolutely exquisite, especially if you're like me and you like your cakes less dense and you crave darker chocolate. The 8" fruit tart was a staple at our office birthday parties ... the custard filling they use is impeccable. I haven't had a fruit tart anywhere else that I've liked. WAIT TIME: I never had to wait when I went weekdays around 8 am (by 8:30 a line was forming) and even weekends before 8 am. Don't complain if you go here Saturday at 4 pm!! It's common knowledge that it gets packed! THINGS I'D GIVE 3-4 STARS: I like to occasionally enjoy a latte with my pastries ... their coffee drinks aren't the best I've had but at least they have a decent coffee bar for their patrons. 3* Also I was slightly disappointed in the almond croissant. I'd give it a 3.5. It was good but my tastebuds hold almond croissants to the gold-standard at Tartine in SF. These things are sooo minor and have not detracted from the 5* experiences I've consistently had here. I'll stop droning and I'll let the 1000+ reviews and 50 years they've been in business speak for themselves. Thanksalot Porto's for making me salivate when I'm so far away and can't have you ...

I'm gunna keep this quite simple. I'm a Cuban woman so I know my Cuban food/ cuisine. Porto's nails it and I pretty much want Porto's to cater every important event for the rest of my life, well even death cuz hopefully Porto's will be around to cater my funeral (hopefully not anytime soon)! haha

  • Karen E.

I have been coming to Porto's for years and I love it everytime. Parking can be tough to find at times and the line is always long. But it's worth it. Their pastries are amazing, their potato balls are to die for and even though it's always hectic the staff is always friendly. The last time I was here they had implemented a new system to try to get the line moving faster. I think it worked because I was in and out in about 20 minutes even though the line was huge. It's hard to pick favorites because everything is so delicious so I would recommend trying everything =) I love that the fruit they use always taste fresh. Their sandwiches are good too although I haven't tried them out as extensively as their pastries. Definitely recommended.

you guys, GOD DAMN. I know this is an annoying review because all people write is "SO AMAZING", "YES TO THE POTATO BALLS!" or "O-M-GOD I LOVE THIS PLACE YAY!" so I'm trying to to be concise and not annoying, BUT this place is really incredible, it really is. if I'm ever feeling like someone has been super awesome to me, I write them a thank you card and get them a box of porto's. it's literally $8 and it's a great gift and WHO DOESNT LIKE CAKE?! everyone has to go here, if you don't you suck.

  • Michelle C.

Where to begin.... Iced Chai-Very milky, mild boring. Cheese Rolls-Crispy, amazing, delish Guava Cheese Thing-Ok, preferred cheese roll Pan Con Lechon-tasty. I shared it. Plantain chips-had some underlying flavor. Super yum. Mango Mousse-Good. I've had better. Fruit Tart-Above average. Potato Ball-Tasty! Worth trying. Meat pie-So flaky. I was loving every bite. Great price. I'd come back for the Meat Pie, Potato Balls, and Cheese Rolls :) But the Pan con Lechon is good if you're hungrier. Ample seating. Some weird people, but it's all good. Fast lines. Decent service...

This review is probably very redundant, but I just want to re-emphasize (especially for people who are not from the LA area) that Porto's is a go to bakery place. You can buy things at Porto's for all purposes such as celebrating a birthday or trying to develop good relationships with your co-workers by bringing goodies from Porto's. You can buy everything you want from guava cheese rolls to meat pies and the bill will come out to not be so bad at all. The mousse cakes and desserts are also extremely tasty. You cannot go wrong with anything you order at this place. This Porto's bakery is nice because the parking is not a pain in the butt to deal with. Easy metered parking. Don't be deterred by long lines. The workers here are extremely efficient and the lines move quickly. This place is not for you if you are watching your figure. :-)

  • Cherie M.

I can see from the couple thousand reviews that you all share the same feeling with me whenever I walk eat at Porto's... *gasp* *quiet FOODGASM ensues* In all honesty I've never had a bad meal or customer service experience. Though the parking can be a bit hellish, I wait my turn in their deservedly long lines, no complaints no ill manners. I don't want to incur any sort of Porto's karma and be denied forever their tasty sandwiches, snackies,, potato balls, and desserts. No exaggeration when I say Porto's is one of the reason's I'm happy to live in SoCal. Wonderful restaurant & food. Pro tip - on busy days, bring a friend, drop 'em off to stand in line while you park.

What more could be said about Porto's that hasn't been Yelped already? Bakery has a great selection of yummy cakes for any occasion, cafe has variety of sandwiches and foods, super cheap everything... the only thing is the line, but so worth it!

First time going to the famous Porto's Bakery. I parked off of Orange & California (for the free 90 min parking) and walked across to the bakery (less than a 5 min walk). I came in on a Thursday afternoon around 12:30 pm and it really was crazy crowded, but surprisingly, the wait was less than 15 mins! There are so many employees staffed, that they are very efficient and very quick to serve each person walking through their doors. There are 3 different lines to get into. (To avoid long lines, on their website, they say that between 3 pm til like maybe 5 pm it is usually the slowest).. the sandwich line to purchase foods from their cafe and you can purchase a minimal number of pastries in this line, then there is the cake line (self explainatory) and the bakery/ pastry line, which is in the next room. At this particular location, there is a party store... so you could purchase things for your birthday if you needed to, since you are already there for your cake. But anyways, I purchased the meat pies, potato balls (which contains meat in them, so not a vegetarian item in case you were wondering), spinach danish and the cheese and guava danish. Everyone in my family just ate it all up, so I only had a chance to try try the spinach danish and cheese and guava danish, which was pretty good. It has cream cheese and a little guava jelly inside. The spinach danish was just okay, something I could definitely live without. But I would love to come back and try something else.... there is seriously tons and tons of bakery items. You can check out their website to see the variety they have to offer at this bakery. The staff who had helped me was very nice and patient as I asked her what are some of the most popular purchased items since it was my first time going there. She helped boxed up everything as I looked through all of the rows of pastry goodies in the bakery counter. Then after I picked up all of my treasures, she motioned me to the cashier area and I paid for my items. The price is fairly reasonable.

Good foods, many choices, and the place is clean. Pastry: Guava Strudel, Guava Cheese, Guava Roll. Sandwich: Cubano and Medianoche Preparada. Other tasty choices are Potato Balls, Spinach Feta Croissant, Mango Mousse.

This place is yummy! You already can tell by the many customers they have EVERYDAY -morning, noon and night. Every time i'm in the LA Area I need to stop by this place and grab a bite to eat. All their pastries are good from there Spinach Croissant to the red Velvet Cupcakes to their Cheese Rolls. I love their turkey avocado croissant sandwich along with their Plantain Chips on the side. There's their pastrami sandwich also a must eat and potato balls to snack on, There is so many choices. Go down and see and taste for yourself.

POTATO BALLS AND CHEESE ROLLS! All day, every day. I make every trip to LA a reason to stop off at Porto's and I never leave without a minimum of 3 boxes of goods. I usually stick to their cheese "crack" rolls and potato balls. I've tried a lot of their baked goods and... they're all good. BUT. Nothing will ever beat a fresh cheese roll to me... or even one that's a week old. I freeze those bad boys and thaw them for 5 minutes when I'm ready to devour them. SO. SO. BOMB. I think my mouth is salivating... gotta go.

  • Cat H.

I would eat here every day if there was one in norcal. And like, it wouldn't just be a cheese and guava croissant, it would be like a million caramel horns, a masterfully designed horchata shake, and all the spinach and cheese croissants. Portos is so heavenly that, since I have lived such a humble and potato-filled life, if I died there, I would just wake up where I died... or where I... dined.... (it's not a diner though) If there is one redeeming culinary establishment in America, it is porto's bakery.

  • Lauren H.

Porto's is a great bakery and cafe. I have gone multiple times and it is always delicious. I love their pastries and potato balls at the cafe. I also got a cake from the bakery for a birthday and it was amazing too. It's a little far from where I live, but when I am up there I make sure to stop in and bring a ton of the pastries back home.

They know how to make delectable cheese treats. Cheese rolls are the best anywhere and the cheesecake rivals those from NY! Mmmm.

  • Hae Y. H.

I love the cheese roll especially when they are still warm! I think i bought dozens over a decade and today was the first time it was fresh put pf the oven! So yummy and so cheap!!! Also got the flan- nothing special And the cheesebread. Now this one i will always get. Removing potato balls, ham croquet and guava cheese rolls from my list as well- it was like my twentieth time trying them (someone always convince me that they are the best!) and now i am sure i dont like them! Get the sandwiches-majority of them are good!!!

First time eating at Portos. So many great choices so I had to limit myself to a few choices. I had the Cuban sandwich which was spectacular. Also had the créme brûlée. Everything was wonderful and I crave that sandwich EVERYDAY!

its Portos...what more can you say. The food is great the pastries are to die for. My wife and I had our wedding cake from this Portos in Glendale. Delivery was on time. The cake was great and everyone kept asking for more. You guys wont regret this place. Also the price was amazing best bang for your buck

Pretty underwhelmed by Porto's. I've been a few times now and I've tried the Potatoe Ball, Cheese Ball, and Chocolate croissant - all 3-star situations at best. The Grilled Veggie Panini is solid, I'll give it a 3.5-star sitch and if I come back for lunch I'll probably order it again. The lines suck but the staff is super super friendly and generous with the samples - 4.5-star sitchy. Only stellar situation Porto's has got going on is the Guava Cheese Roll, a 5-star, Mike "The Situation" Sorentino situation.

Potato balls merits five stars alone! Don't be dissuaded by the long lines - they move fast and you can usually get a table quickly. There's always a line, so just go whenever! ... and get a potato ball!

PORTO"S CHEEESE ROLLS, best bakery ever (: I love this place and hope to try more different pastries and what not. but cheese rolls! X3

This is a must stopped for excellent bake goods and you can't beat the prices. I first went to their Burbank Bakery back in January and had to come to this store to check if it was as good. It is not as crowded, but was more easy to parked and faster moving lines. I order some baked goodies to take back to the bay area and were still fresh went i got back after 3 days.

4.8 stars for this Cuban bakery! I LOVEEEE Porto's! Amazingly delicious baked goods priced super reasonably. In fact, there are so many crazy good things here that you probably can't decide what to get initially. At least that's my problem here, my friends. My mom and dad also love their stuff, which is surprising, since they usually aren't into sweet stuff. We always get their fruit tart pies for birthdays and holiday parties. You can never go wrong with their stuff! :D Their cheese rolls, potato balls, and dulce de leche kisses are all my favorites!

Although there were tons of customers, the wait wasn't bad at all. I got the Veggie sandwich which actually is more of a burger...it's hugeee because they stack the grilled veggies (eggplant!). It could use more flavor though...maybe spicy hummus and olive tapenade? My friends' sandwiches were pretty amazing (cubano?). The potato balls are bomb..they have some ground up meat inside though (expected them to be vegetarian). Honestly every pastry and bread looked tasty but I only tried the cheese roll...lives up to the hype and I don't even like cream cheese. Great service too!

Came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed. I got a large to-go order of pastries and ham croquettes. The ham croquettes are very filling so if you are in the mood for something light, I would try something else. The ham and cheese croissants are also an excellent choice. The cheese rolls are a must! It is packed as always and a tip is to go to the line on the left side of the store. Watch what they charge you though because I have been overcharged before due to the business, I don't think it was intentional, the cashier was just in a rush.

Portos is an excellent bakery with pretty good food to boot. The smaller tres leches cake (about the size of a bread loaf) is really good and only $5. Cheese rolls are my favorite and are super cheap. The worst thing about Porto's are the lines and paid parking. Parking is pretty cheap, but the lines are long always. Still, it's totally worth it every so often. Pros: -Amazing baked goods. -Above average food. -Insanely cheap. Cons: -Paid parking in crowded lots/streets. -Long lines.

Cheese rolls and potato balls. Enough said. The Cubano sandwich is worth trying and getting as well as the any of their hot/cold beverages. Porto's never fails to disappoint and it's always a treat bringing back a load of goodies for myself and friends. Keep up the awesome quality and service!

Every time came here will have new surprise. This review is for pre-order. Guys, if you think you pre-ordered the bakery then you don't need to wait in line for an hour. You are totally wrong! We pre-ordered last night. We came here. An hour waiting. Long line for pick up. Everybody mad because the preorder is so freaking slow. If you see this kind of situation. Maybe you need more ppl to work here!! And when the bakery come out. We were trying to help packing the stuff. The lady who work there was like serious telling us THIS IS MY JOB and bla bla bla. Ok then. Can you shut up and do it quickly? Because we are here waiting for it like AN HOUR ALREADY!

This place is a Bakery? No way man bakerys sell bread but Porto's SELLS stuff outta this WORLD! I have tried a lot of different items from Porto's and none of it has disappointed! EVER! My favorites are the potato balls, cheese rolls! (also try the guava ones!), tamales, salad, cheesecakes, any of the sandwiches.... okay so basically EVERYTHING! People complain about the line but it's not THAT bad and it is TOTALLY worth it! Make sure you order extra to take home or your friends are going to be really mad at you for not bringing them any.

Gotta thank for aunt and cousins for getting me food from here! :-) The potato balls are outstanding. The meat is flavorful and the potato is not soggy. I love the guava rolls, as it is a unique flavor for breakfast pastry. I had a chocolate cake from there as well, and it was rich, chocolately, and not dry.

This bakery is poppin'. I aint never been to a bakery this big before. There was a line when I went but it moved pretty quickly. The service is on point here and there's plenty of seating. The prices are reasonable too. The potato balls were the bidniz. And don't say you cant scrap no change up, it was .90 cents each. Their horchata which came blended with caramel (like a starbucks drink) was AMAZING. GET IT. I can see why people would flock to this place. It was more poppin' than the Americana on a Saturday.

I only have one thing to say. Best cheese roll I have ever tasted. You get almost addicted and will keep craving for it. Whoever I bought this for always said it was one of the best food they ever tasted. I heard their other bread/cakes are pretty good too, but I only tried cheese roll, so I have no opinion on other stuff.

The line is long and parking is usually manageable, but the food and prices make it worthwhile. We recommend the pastrami sandwich (add provolone), the turkey croissant, CHEESE ROLLS and some fresh squeezed OJ or Inka Cola. Also, there are samples, which we live for, because they're free and awesome and cool and sweet and and and

There's not much I can say that all the other two thousand people have written about. Everyone raves about the cheese rolls, guava rolls, potato balls and yes those are all fantastic. One of my new favorite items at Porto's is the mango shake. It tastes straight up like freshly cut yellow mangoes! Those are the best mangoes! Porto's never lets me down.

just brave the long lines because its worth it! i really liked the cheese roll, potato balls, chicken empanada, and guava smoothie. the dulce de leche napoleon is also very good! i dont like the guave cheese roll as much as the original, but thats just my preference.

Everyone knows this place is amazing. Everyone knows this place has some really good potato balls and cheese rolls. Everyone knows that there are long lines. Some may know that there are party supplies upstairs (if you just look up). Not a lot of people know about my blog post about Porto's. That is because it is my most recent one! Please check it out. It has pictures and you can read about my experience at Portos. dinedelish.com/2011/06/0… Thanks! -DineDelish

At every family gathering, I can always count on someone bringing a few boxes of some of portos delectable treats. A guilty indulgence I allow myself to dive head first in scarcely but fully! lol It's like Christmas anytime I see a Portos box... or as Forrest Gump would say like a "box of chocolates". Either way, Portos is delicious! A must-try if you're teetering on whether you should or shouldn't, whether it's worth a try or not... because it definitely is worth a try! :)

This place has DELICIOUS pastries. As far as sandwiches go 3 stars. Very simple, nothing too crazy on the flavor side. Love that they serve plantain chips on the side. The price of pastries, you can't beat em'. Always packed, like really packed - especially weekends. Parking in rear = $0.75/hr

Get ready for a line and chaos. The bus boys zipping past after clearing a table, gawkers standing around trying to figure out which line to get into (there are many depending on what you want), mothers hovering as they try to poach the next empty table... Is it worth all this? YES! It will all make sense when you reach the end of the line and all those goodies are in front of you encased in glass lit with a warm amber glow - guava cheese pastries, potato balls, and beef puffs... And if you are ordering off the menu, the ropa vieja sandwich is oh so good. Put the diet on hold and eat your freakin' heart out already.

An obvious choice and one of the main reasons to have lunch in Glendale. This place is hyped, but that doesn't mean it's not good. The sandwiches are always crisp and the side of banana chips is still one of my favorite parts. Potato balls are about as good as they're hyped up to be. Their deserts are usually up to par and occasionally exceed that. Porto's probably isn't the best bakery in Los Angeles, but it's perfect in its roundness. There are very few items on the menu that aren't good. There are very few items on the menu that won't make you want to come back for more. Each time I eat there, the sandwich is just as I remember it and exactly the way I want it.

    (4)
  • Frosty B.

The stars are more for the actual bakery rather than the food. The lines can be long but it's worth the wait. The actual food is ok but Quizno's would satisfy just as well. The bakery is only second to King's Hawaiian in my opinion. I have yet to be disappointed in any of the bakery items I've gotten, the staff is really friendly and helpful.

If you love chocolate cake this is the place to go. Chocolate parisian 9' for $23.00 but it's a bomb!!! If I'm craving for a good chocolate cake we go to LA just to have this amazing cake! I wish they have Portos Bakery in Las Vegas because we go there pretty often.

  • Stephanie T.

The only reason I gave it a 4 is because sometimes seating is just so hard to find. It gets crowded and the ordering line is a bit odd but I will go through it for the food! I normally get the cubano sandwich and a porto's coffee. Not a huge fan of the potato ball everyone raves about but I do love the pastries! (I have a sweet tooth haha). All the rolls are great (cheese roll, guava roll, chocolate croissant, etc.). This is probably the one place I think about when I go shopping at Americana. It is so close so how can you not think about dropping by for a drink and a sweet treat? I mean shopping burns calories right? haha.

potato balls!!! I crave these from time to time. they are sooooo good and so cheap! I've been to Porto's many many times. However, I have yet to find a sandwich that I really like. The pork sandwich I had was pretty dry. For those who can't get enough of the potato balls, there's a sandwich with potato balls in them. So if I were to stop by Porto's to grab some goodies to go, I usually get potato balls with several desserts. Assorted cakes and mousses. I personally love their chocolate mousse. They sell whole cakes as well. My mom LOVES the chocolate raspberry cake. It's nice and moist... and so cheap! Last time I checked, it was about $20. This location is always crowded so if you come with others, it's smart for one to grab seats while the other orders food.

I love this place so much that I would drive all the way to Los Angeles just to have some. It also doesn't hurt that it's pretty inexpensive and it's really that good. To the point that every time I go to Portos, I find myself picking out 5 desserts at a time because I don't ever want to go home empty-handed. I'm a dessert person so this place is heaven for me.

Ohhhh.. How I love Porto's Bakery! Even with the crazy out the door lines, No one does Cheese Rolls and Potatoes Balls the way Porto's does. Beside the two obvious they have much more to offer.. and everything oh so delicious! Definitely recommend anyone and everyone of all ages to come here! So DELISH!!! I Don't Believe! LOL

  • Su L.

I can confidently say that this is the best bakery in LA in terms of value and taste. Everything, I repeat, everything was excellent, especially cakes and cheese rolls and guava cheese rolls. Drinks are good too - loved the raspberry mint drink I tried during my summer visit. Price was also extremely reasonable, unlike some Japanese bakeries or French ones I like.

I love Portos. The food was absolutely delicious, the staff members were very kind and informative, and even offered me some free samples because I hadn't tried some things before. Amazing how great their customer service was despite how long the lines were. And plenty of seating even with a line out the door! I'll definitely be back. Downside - I probably ate two days worth of calories there :-O and parking isn't highly convenient.

My boyfriend loves Portos! This is the first time I went but previously he brought me home (norcal) a box of delectable Portos and I fell in love with the guava strudels and potato balls. This time I went with him and once again got the guava strudels, potato balls, and cheese rolls. The guava is not overwhelmingly sweet and has a generous amount of filling, light crisp but also fluffy. Potato ball makes a beautiful crunch sound and simply delicious. Cheese roll has a pleasant sweet taste and flaky on the outside. GREAT pastries for a very cheap price. What a steal! Now I understand why people buy stacks of Portos. I wish they would open one in norcal.

Great food, great prices. Great selection of everything. Parking isn't great, but thats not Portos fault. Glendale does not have good parking anywhere. I order here all the time, occasions, when I visit family members. Great tasting food and amazing pastries. Keep up the good work.

I always come here to get the teramisu cakes, they are delicious! I've also had their food and it is very tasty. This place gets very packed and parking is a little annoying, but their food is what keeps people coming back and they have friendly service.

  • Michelle Y.

Portossss, always a childhood favorite :) Potato Balls, Cheese Rolls, Croissants, and their sammies are my go to! I love love their banana chips that comes with the sammies. There's always a line no matter what time of day when you go. So worth the wait though and the line usually goes by quick anywayy. There's parking in the front and back, yes, you have to pay for it. There's two lines, one for dining in, the other for take out (mainly pastries), and also a cake line! Two spacious dining rooms! Oh yeah, for horchata lovers... they have a horchata frappe! I'll be sticking to my Mocha frappe though haha. Super cheap and yummy!

whats not to like about Portos? I've been coming to Portos since it was a small bakery and I knew all of the employees because there weren't that many. Everything here is delicious, for my birthday cake I stick to the cuban cakes the merengue is so good!! The red velvet cake is also one of my favorites. Everything is delicious the media noche is one of my favorite Cuban sandwiches here. I pretty much have had everything here and everything is absolutely amazing! You cant go wrong with anything! Yeah I guess I'm a fan lol

I've had Porto's in Downey and wanted to try this Porto's location before heading back to the bay. Compared to the Porto's in Downey, this place is much smaller and we stood in line longer. We ordered the usual but this time we also tried the desserts... -meat pie -potato ball -chicken croquette -cheese roll -iced dulce de leche latte -mango mousse -napoleon dulce de leche (favorite!!) -white chocolate raspberry cheesecake Just like the Porto's in Downey, everything was really good here too!! If you are ever in the area you gotta try Porto's!!

First time in here for a morning rush. The service was quick and the food of course, delicious. I like the way there are different lines based on what you need. It seems to help move the service thru quicker. I found the staff to be friendly, some of them more cheerful then others, but hey, we're not all morning people. It doesn't stop them from doing a good job and moving quickly. We didn't know we had to put the parking receipt on our windshield after we paid, but we found it on our windshield. To the person who did this-- thanks :) we are wishing good Karma back to you. Must have been someone with a belly full of Portos goodies :)

Oh Porto's. Everyone know's what this palce is about. No need to write a detailed review. POTATO BALLS, TAMALES and CHESSE ROLLS please! It was great coming back to the old neighborhood and stopping by here on a recent trip down south. Glendale has changed a litle since the 90's, but Porto's will always be solid. But man, so many people. You can order bakery items form the cafe side if the line is too long. See you soon.

Stood in the line for an hour. Longest wait of my life for some pastries. I was like, man these are some overhyped pastries! As my friend and I stood in line, the employees gave out meat pies! That was nice, it was sooooo good. It made me more hungry! I got the typical pastries, guava cheese, potato balls and cheese rolls.. took them back to the Bay Area, still yummy! :D

    (5)
  • Michele S.

This Cuban pastry shop must have hundred of pastry, bread, cookies, sandwich everyday, and all look so yummy. My favorite is the cheese roll and at 70 cents per piece, can't really not to fall these cheese filled puff pastry. Fruits tarts are nice as well, and try the sandwich if you are hungry. Fried banana is another specialty that you should not miss.

This place is the BOMB!!! Been going here since '09 and it's still our favorite spot to hit up in LA area. Close proximity from Griffith park and not too far from Wacko. Never ceases to disappoint. How could anyone rate it any lower that 4 or 5 stars I mean cmon' everything is absolutely delicious!! Top five things we order: 1. Guava/Cheese Rolls 2. Potato Balls 3. Mango Empanada 4. Guava/Cheese Pastry 5. Dulce de Leche If you're hungry for something savory try their sandwiches or their variety of empanadas. The Cubano sandwich is fantastic!

    (5)
  • Summer L.

Porto's is always amazing! From the Orange Juice to the Cuban sandwich, absolutely love! But the best thing they serve are the pastries and the cakes! A must try if new to LA!

  • Andrea V.

Crazy ass lines. I had never made it to this location, the OG Porto's Bakery. The line took forever and a day (especially compared to their Burbank location). Everything tastes the same though. I tried the following: Potato Balls Cheese Rolls Fruit tarts Cuban Sandwich Pastrami Sandwich Orange Juice I highly recommend all of the above except for the pastrami sandwich. It was dry and just so so. Everything else tastes amazing though. If you're a tourist, this is a must-visit while in town.

I braved the long but fast-moving line here at peak lunchtime today, and was pleasantly surprised with the girl who helped me. I had to write my order down just to TELL her, but after I told her, she remembered it all in her HEAD! All in separate boxes: For my client: 6 cheese rolls For my neighbor: 6 cheese rolls For my parents: 4 cheese rolls For the bf & me: 6 cheese rolls, 6 potato balls, 2 ham croquettes, 2 chicken empanadas, 2 chocolate covered strawberries Whew, what a memory = O I was in and out of there in 15-ish minutes - it's such a busy lunchtime place, that was pretty amazing. Everything was, of course, YUM!

    (5)
  • Wendy R.

Where do I even begin? The cakes are delicious, the sandwiches are delicious and the POTATO BALLS are orgasmic. Seriously, if you havent tried them yet, you dont know what youre missing! The line speaks for itself. It's worth the wait. Did I mention potato balls?

    (5)
  • Ann G.

This place is overwhelming. Too many people and too many different lines. I walked here for the first time ready to try this new place and was tempted to walk out. I tried the steak torta and the ropa vieja sandwich. The steak on the torta was very juicy and tender.

The food was ok but over priced. It's bad enough you have to pay for parking I think they could lower the prices a bit. I've had better Vegan food that didn't cost as much.

    Solid Consistent performance Portos!

    (4)
  • Natalie R.

Worst service ever. Not only do you have a long line wait, but when you get to order they waste time grabbing premade foods such as pastries, potatoes balls, etc and then after that do they place your actual food order such as coffee, sandwiches, salad, etc. So in the end you'll wait over 30 minutes to get your entrée.

    (1)
  • Mel L.

I haven't been to their physical location (yet), but have tasted their pastries brought home from family and co-workers. They are as good as you've heard, especially the guava pastry. Their selection is huge based on their website. I can't wait to visit them in person next time I'm in L.A.

    (4)
  • New D.

When you list an item as potato balls, you don't expect ground beef to be in there!

  • Rebecca G.

I have been to both glendale and burbank, and I have to say their both great in service and their food is always so fresh. The only bad part about this place is the amount u have to wait in line and how packed it gets! Other than that very good place!

Here to upgrade my review from four to five stars. I have been in here more frequently these last two months with BIG to-go orders that I place right on the spot! ( FYI you can only call in an order if it is a day in advance ) I am talking orders for over 15 people with separate checks and everything. That's A LOT of potato balls, empanadas, sandwiches, and pastries. The orders are always complicated and they have not messed up ONCE! I am so impressed. I stopped checking each box because my confidence in them is through the roof :) Tables seem to be cleaned faster too! I am a happy customer.

We parked in the free 90 minute parking and walked about a block to Porto's. Since there was a line, we decided to use our time wisely and look at the menu so we would know exactly what we wanted when we got to the front. I got the tiramisu, a potato ball, and a chicken croquette. Everyone was saying how good the potato ball was but honestly, I think the chicken croquette was better. Maybe because the potato balls have bell peppers... The tiramisu was awesome. Probably one of the best I've ever had. My sister got the guava cheese pastry, a turkey croissant sandwich, and a chocolate chip cookie. They ran out of croissants so she substituted it for ciabatta bread. The sandwich is really big for only ~$5. The guava cheese pastry, even though it sounds super weird, was really good. The chocolate chip cookie was average. Overall, I had a very good experience and the staff is very impressive.

Great place to have lunch & cake. Their parking lot is big but there is no free parking, not even on the streets. Their prices are fairly good and the taste is even better. Plan to wait in the lines for at least 5/10 or even 15 minutes as the waves of customers keep coming and its always full of people. Highly recommended! Try it and you will be their forever customer! Just like I have been hooked!

    (5)
  • Alana B.

There will be lines. And screaming people. And babies. Knowing this, prepare for the best baked goods of your life. I have been going here forever and it's always been top-of-the-line amazing. I get the guava pastries or the potato balls. Everything they serve is absolutely divine, it's the only place I will go to get a birthday cake. Also, you may not find parking on Brand, but there is a lot in the back that you can enter on Central.

Had a late lunch there. Eh the Cubano was ok but not great. The tortilla soup was cold and not good. If they had asked me how it was I would have told them. It also comes in a cheap styrofoam bowl. It didn't keep it warm.

I love portos... I really do. But today I was so disappointed. Ordered a ham sandwich, delivered promptly because there was no one really in the restaurant, great yay! But while eating I bit into something that felt hard and grainy almost sand like. When I opened my sandwich I found not only the butt of the tomato (ew) but also there was a huge chunk of dirt in the lettuce (major ew). They gave me a refund on my sandwich, thanks. But seriously portos? Quality control. :(

Yes! I finally set foot in Porto's. I have a bit of mixed feelings with Porto's and feel it is a bit overrated. There are lots of things that Porto's has to offer and I frankly wouldn't want to try more than half of them. However, that can't affect my judgment of the things I do want to try/did try. The cheese rolls and potato balls are so fresh, affordable and tasty!!! No wonder they are the most popular items here. I totally understand the hype. Cheese rolls, in my opinion, definitely edge the potato balls by a bit because they are so flaky. Also, Porto's fruit tart is yummy and fresh. I have also tried the guava-cheese rolls which was okay.

Yes I am a fan of Porto's but not a raving fan. Their are a couple items I can't help but eating when they are put in front of me (cheese roll TM and the empanadas) but I just don't get the hype over the potato balls or the fruit tarts?

Delicious cheese rolls, guava cheese rolls, flan, and dulce de leche ice blended lattes. Line is long, but quick. Staff are super friendly. Casual, open, and welcoming atmosphere in a sweet shopping center in Glendale. I will definitely come back here again to try all of the desserts and Cuban food.

I love their pastries here. Especially the guava and cheese strudel. Their chai is also delicious. I had the biztec sandwich for lunch recently and it was ok. I think the cubano or medianoche may have been better options.

Usually when I go to a bakery, I don't get too many things because the prices are ridiculous. I got 5 items and it cost me less than $4! I kind of regret not getting more. Not only was it fairly cheap, but it was delicious. My favorite was the guava and cheese strudel. Nice and flaky. It tasted even better the next day! Can't wait to go back!

Recently purchased my sons 1st bday cake it was perfect and under 100 for 70 people. I had shopped other places who quoted me $500 for a fondant cake. Porto's made the same idea come to life with cream and it was delicious. Thank you and we will buying all bday cakes here from now on!

What can I say that other Yelpers already haven't written about? Yes, the lines are long, and you queue up in Disneyland-ride type lines. It's a shame that you can't really leisurely peruse the bakery displays prior to ordering. But the pastries are excellent and they have tons of different kinds. The cheese pastry is rich and delicious, but for some reason when my friend and I ordered the same thing, they each looked different and tasted slightly differently. Not sure why that happenred. The pastries aren't really labeled and described very well in the displays, so you might want to go to their website and look at the menu beforehand. It can get overwhelming with the huge variety of foods staring back at you. Bottom line - The pastries are worth the wait, and of course I'll return. I just wish I lived closer.

Yum...this place is fantastic! I love this place. Its always busy but they know how to run the business. Place is clean, staff is always on point, place never seems to disappoint me. From their baked goods to their sandwiches and specialty drinks, hands down one of my favorite spots. I recommend to try the raspberry mojito infusion, the Italian sub, cheese rolls, fried potato balls, guava cheese pastry, fruit tart and any of the mini treats. Coffee here is amazing as well. This place has it all, I try something new here every time but the items mentioned above are just some of my personal faves.

I am from North San Diego County, but when one of my customers at my work knew i was coming to Glendale,CA the 1st thing she said was: " You have to go to Porto's!" Am I glad i did :) there are no better words to describe this amazing place, best pastries ever, delicious gourmet coffee, awesome sandwiches, but best of all Excellent customer service. I will not mind driving 100 miles one way just to come here again.
