Happened to drive by and we were pleasantly surprised. Clean, good service and food. The place was busy @ 12:30 but no problem. My wife had the Reuben and I had the Steak sandwich. Tomato Basil Soup substitute instead of fries for my wife. it was a little spicy for her. I loved it. Fries were freshly cut.

I went here with low expectations - I've been in the Modesto restaurant and it's just ok. This place is really good. Mom and I shared a blue cheese burger with onion rings - the toasted whole wheat ciabatta was coated with seeds and toasted, the burger was cooked through and still moist a it had just the right amount of blue cheese. The onion rungs may have been pre made frozen but they were fried perfectly. The cook plated the meal on two separate plates without an up-charge. The waitress was sticky sweet but it got here an extra dollar on her tip. LOL. I also got a small greek salad thinking the split meal would not be enough. I couldn't eat another bite after the burger so it's lunch tomorrow. The salad looks great- lots of olives, tomatoes, cukes, artichokes and feta cheese.

Had a bacon cheese burger and it was awesome! Didn't even know it came with two patties, do now, going back!

Decent food for decent price. We've been there multiple times and wait staff has always been pleasant. Acoustics in building make it a somewhat noisy dining experience. Outdoor seating does give diner some options. My son loves their french toast. I consider ice cream here to be fair.

Homemade ice cream - Outstanding This place is a true 5-stars all the way around! Great job Rebecca with table of 9 and 5 kids!!!

Amazing!!! Great food!! Customer service was busy but paid attention as much as they could. The ice cream shake was awesome. They had different kinda of ice cream for the seasons I loved that. I will be going for breakfast soon!

This is our Go To restaurant for breakfast and dinner - excellent service, friendly staff, great attention to detail and amazing ice creams. My favorites are ALL the fresh soups, especially Butternut Squash, the Bacon Avocado Cheese Chicken Sandwich (which I switch up with Swiss instead of Cheddar and sweet potato fries instead of regular), french toast, pancakes, and the glazed pork chops.

Went here for the first time tonight and it was only fair. I ordered a salad with the linguini and clams. Menu says white sauce; however, right below it says build your own pasta-choose your pasta and sauce. So I asked for the linguini and clams with red sauce. Waitress went back and I watched her give our order to the cook. They spoke for a few second and she walked around a few minutes before coming back to say they can't put clams in red sauce. Really? Seems pretty easy to me. But it tells me the plates are pre-made and not fresh. Ok, I told her I'd still have the salad and also ordered the fish and chips. Big mistake. Salad didn't come with everyone else's so I asked her about it. She said it doesn't come with the fish and chips. I realize that. Add it to bill. She left and came back with the salad and even though no one was even half done with salads and soup, the entrees all came out. Why?? Wait until the salads are done. Otherwise people feel rushed and the food gets cold while the first course is being eaten. Anyway, I got 2 long and thin pieces of fish that were extremely chewy and not fresh. Fish isn't supposed to be chewy. Not sure if the tarter sauce was bad or if they seasoned it with cinnamon. That's the flavor it had. Didn't eat it. Others with me were equally as unimpressed. Two stars is generous for this place.

Tried this place for the first time and we will definitely be back! We had breakfast but the lunch looked great too. Both our coffees and our food were served promptly and with a smile. We enjoyed the snow crab Benedict - toasted English muffin, perfect egg, creamy holland aide sauce and crab.

We love going to this place for breakfast after church. My boys (5 and 9year olds) love and eat all their food because they know the ice cream comes with their meal. I love their french toast it is amazing! We bring every one that comes visit us here. They all have liked it too =)

This place is our mainstay. We are there at least once a week. The food is always good and fresh. The homemade Ice Cream is always delicious and they always have special flavors available that coincide with the time of year. The service is always excellent when we have Josephine, Jill or Brittni as our server.

I came here with family members who live in the area. Otherwise, I may not have had the opportunity to be so pleasantly surprised. I really liked the breakfast menu; and, everything we ordered was very tasty and arrived so quickly you would have thought we phoned ahead. The service was beyond good, and our server was very patient with some of the more difficult people we had seated at our table. This is a nicely run business.

We are new to Galt, and have eaten here three times already :) for lunch during the week, and Sunday for Brunch. Every time has been a wonderful experience :) It is a VERY kid-friendly place, my girls, 6 and 3, LOVE coming here. They have a great kid's menu - very reasonably priced, and it comes with ice cream! (made fresh every day) the kid's menu has games, and they bring over a cup of crayons. The atmosphere is enjoyable, and the food is always yummy :) my 3 year old has pancakes no matter what time it is, and I love the salads and the omlets are very fresh! The servers are always very helpful and personable. :) we can't wait to go back!

  • scott s.

Come on bro. I got the fish and chips and what I thought was 3 pieces of fish was in fact 2 pieces of fish and a fried pickle. Yes that's right....a fried PICKLE. I brought this up to the waitress and she just shrugged it off and said "oh yeah that's what we do here, some people like it"...no apology or anything. Worthless customer service. The fish itself was pretty dry and flavorless, no seasoning whatsoever. The fries had that mushy potato texture that can only be achieved by a freezer. I guess the quality of the food is kind of pointless since they tried to pass off a pickle as a fried piece of fish. Such dishonest business practices will get your doors closed in no time. I will also be uploading a picture of my fried PICKLE so the whole world can see how this business operates.

Went here couple weeks ago with my son for lunch.Much nicer than the Lodi location. I had the sirloin dip which was served hot with fries in a very timely manner. Service was great and will definitively go back again. Great place for breakfast and lunch IMO.

  • Foodie For Life L.

OK breakfast food and the Chile Relleno Burger was pretty good. I've had better service and could have used a few more coffee refills. I felt that for the price the entrées we picked were tiny. Hubby and I left unsatisfied and could have split another entrée between us. For the price and portion sizes, I don't think we'll be going back. : (

My family and I go here after all our sport games!! Best burgers!

We went in with a big party (14), got great service and the food and ice cream were delicious. The strawberry shake was made with vanilla ice cream and REAL strawberries. Also recommend the dulce de leche sundae.

I really enjoy eating here! This is a cute, old style diner, complete with the best homemade ice cream and fountain drinks. The servers are always super friendly and helpful. My favorite meal here: breakfast! They make the best hot fresh veggie egg white omlets. And on naughty cheat days the Belgian waffle with strawberries is to die for. We've never been disappointed and have eaten here often.

I was extremely hesistant to try this place after reading some of the reviews. Especially since I have a low tolerance for poor customer service... And low tolerance plus my pregnant hormones= Not good... LOL. But I was passing by today and thought why the heck not? I was greeted right away by a lady and was promptly given the to-go menu to order. While I was looking over the menu I was greeted by two other servers who wanted to make sure I was doing fine, they also were very polite to my son as well :) I ordered for my husband and I the Lunch Deli special, which is half an oven-roasted turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and mayo with a side of fries. I also placed an order for the Avocado Bacon cheeseburger that also came with fries. After looking over the iice cream selection, I decided on a tiny pumpkin pie (So sad that it's seasonal :[ ) cone for my son and an apple juice for him. Altogether, this cost me around 19 dollars. So, not too bad for the amount of food that I received. It was slightly busy when I went, but I was able to get my food back to me within ten minutes or so. When I arrived home, the food was delicious. I was a very pleased prego lady today :) I will definitely be going back for a second time. I reallly hope that their service will be consistent!

We had lunch here yesterday after the Galt Market and it was delicious. All four of us enjoyed our meal (pesto prawns, taco salad, burger, soup/salad), our server was delightful and the free pint with Yelp check in was awesome!! Thanks for making our day!

We were in Galt on a whim, and this place was recommended by a local. We were greeted by Rebecca who was a joy. She was personable, friendly, and made us feel at home. I had a cheeseburger and the wife had a chili cheese dog. Both were great. Service was quick and attentive. We highly recommend!

I have been to Velvet Grill twice in the last 2 weeks; once for lunch and for breakfast. I had great service both times. Water glass was full the entire time, which is a big deal to me. For lunch I had their burger on a ciabatta roll with sharp cheese and bacon, cooked just the way I asked for it. The sweet potato fries came with a yummy chipotle dipping sauce. There were 7 of us dining and our waitress was fun and took care of us. Breakfast, I went with a few girlfriends on Veterans day. I had one of their combination plates. The potatoes were perfectly cooked, the biscuits were fluffy and again service was great. We were offered ice cream samples both times and they did not disappoint! The seasonal pumpkin was tasty and the maple bacon was surprisingly good! We will return!!!

  • Greg D.

Good food. Great owners. Awesome service. Great to see the Velvet Grill so active in many community events. Wonderful family run restaurant. Ask for Sherry to wait on you! Great service and quite the eye candy!! :) ps.. Ice cream is the best in the area and made on the premise.

  • Lori H.

Yeh! Finally got the guy in there - patty melt was decent and the pasta with chicken and mushrooms was quite tasty - love the homemade white bread lightly toasted on the grill! Not too pricey - waitress attentive - really not bad - loads of choices and will be returning to give some of them a try - particularly the Black and White ice cream sundae - memories of Farrell's back in the day!

  • Mark N.

I decided to try this place for lunch today. We arrived around 11:30am, just in time for lunch and was greeted by Sherry. She was very friendly, sat us in a booth, handing us our menus and promptly got us our refreshments; myself having a coke and my friend having water. We waited a bit long for our waitress Jo to come and take our order and when we asked what the soup of the day was, she was unsure. I ordered the Meatloaf sandwich, mashed potatoes, and a side salad. My friend ordered the Crab sandwich, side salad and the soup of the day. Our food showed up and my sandwich had tomato on it (when I asked for no tomato) and the rest of the food looked good. I must say, the bread really made the sandwich. It was so soft and lightly toasted just perfect. The Meatloaf was pretty good and the mashed potatoes needed some serious help. It looked like they took 3 red baby potatoes and mashed them 4 times with a fork and served them, I did not finish them. My friends Crab sandwich came on the same type of bread and he really enjoyed it. He liked the salad as well as the soup which turned out to be a Tuscon something or other. Jo refilled our drinks once throughout the meal and presented us with our check at the end. We did not try any ice cream (which I regret) and left with a full belly. All in all, it was an OK lunch. I will try it for breakfast and probably once more for lunch before I give up on it but there was nothing special about it this time that would take me out of my way to go there. Service = Just OK Price = Not bad $8-$9 for my sandwich Location/Atmosphere = Great look inside and out, patio seating available Menu = General Diner type of food but with a lot more choices including pasta.

A must stop for yummy ice cream! You can get a smallish size for $1 on a the cutest little sugar cone! I ate the Toasted Coconut! My kiddos had the the regular sized ice cream (which was pretty big....2.99 each)....Oreo, Cookie Dough, and Cookies and Creme (apparently they really like anything "cookie"!!) The wait staff and owner were especially nice too!!

  • John E.

came in for sunday brunch. there was quite a crowd inside and a bit noisy. we sat outside where it was quiet. the waitress was nice and came out to check up on us a few times. the food is good and the portions are big enough to fill you up. my dad had French toast and was disappointed that it was deep fried instead of grilled in butter. the prices are a little bit high but not excessive. I would return if I am hungry and in galt. edit. ate here again on 11/03/13. I was pleased with the food and the service again.

  • Tracy A.

Went with our soccer team families for some Ice Cream. Ending up staying for lunch and everyone was happy. The sundaes are the old fashioned large sizes with whipped cream and a cherry on top with hand scooped ice cream and flavorful, gooey, syrups spilling over the side as you put your spoon in. Sandwich and burger portions were perfect for hungry patrons and the service was good. We will be back.

My husband & I decided to try this new place in Galt out. We arrived about 8:00 pm, had to wait a little bit to get somebody to notice us, because it seemed to me the staff had a lot of their young high school friends hanging out at the little sit own bar they have their so of course we got ignored because our waitress friends seemed to be more important than brand new customers. Finally when we sat down, we were waited on by a young blonde girl with a pink ribbon around her head, by the way those were her friends hanging out so she isn't have lot of time to attend to us.... We ordered fish & chips and I had the roast beef dip sandwich, my husband also ordered a bowl of clam chowder soup. Finally when she gave us our food, the clam chowder was cold I mean cold! The fish & chips were cold..awful! Our waitress never gave us our tarter sauce even though she was sitting right in front of us talking to her friends, she ignored us the whole time! We had to flag down another server to help us get what we needed like refills ect...when the other lady gave us our sauce we had told her we cannot get our waitress to acknowledge us, she said nothing and proceeded to tell our young blonde waitress about our distresss.. The young blonde waitress then rolled her eyes and continued to sit with her young friends hanging out. That was the most rudest thing I've ever seen! Later when we were about to leave, we were talking to our waitress whom we barely seen or helped us... And found out she was the owners daughter! Go figure! We will not be back here and I will be sure to tell everyone I know about the horrible service we received from the owners daughter! I work at Raleys, I know what customer service should be! I will be sure to tell all of my customers about this place... Oh and all my fiends at the dog park!

  • Dawn P.

Stopped here on our way to Vegas from Sacramento. Didn't regret the stop a bit! The staff was kind and helpful, and the food was amazing. Their French toast is a home run, and it's deep fried! You can't beat that! Their bread is also made fresh. Biscuits and gravy were so good and the hobo breakfast was so much better than I knew eggs, peppers and potatoes could be! We will be back next time we find ourselves in this part of the state! (Oh and the ice cream was AWESOME too!)

    (5)
  • Britney B.

The food and ice cream are VERY good for American diner food! The service however is not great! I have had one good waitress and all the rest have been absolutely a HORRIBLE!! If you go get the crab sandwich and hope it gets to the table in less than an hour or that your server is having a good day.

  • Linda M.

We were in Galt from Redding for a triathlon and checked Trip Advisor to find a good place to eat in the area. We found Velvet's to be everything the reviewers said. First of all, the service is very friendly and accommodating. We split a delicious hamburger and fries with a salad and were astonished how quickly it arrived at our table. We ordered ice cream after dinner and one scoop here is very generous. I usually dont eat much ice cream but I made short work of the whole dish. Make this a for sure place to stop for a great eating experience.

  • Al S.

I know what you are thinking - "Really Al!" "Galt, California!" First, let me communicate to you that there are very kind people in the City of Galt. Second, the United States has placed an Embassy here!" I get it a little over the top! I really have enjoyed this place for a Sunday afternoon lunch after church (Bayside Galt)! The servers are very helpful and serve with you with a smile and they have a real nice venue to eat outside when the temperature is not through the roof and Satan is walking his dog! There menu is diverse enough to keep you interested and the ice cream is fabulous! You wil not be disappointed eating here and discovering that there are gems in the City of Galt.

    (4)
  • Yvett A.

If I can leave zero stars, I would! Horrible service both times I've been here and the one time I did eat here, the food was bland with no flavor. Save your money and go somewhere BETTER!

My children and I come here for the ice cream. While the food is delicious and the atmosphere is great, the ice cream is always what keeps us coming back. So happy they added this in Galt.

A regular place for us to go in Galt. Breakfast is always GrEAT! I love the French Toast made in their special bread. To die for! Salads are good and filling. The ice cream is another amazing serial at velvet grill. They always have special concoctions of ice creams! YUM!

  • Amanda B.

Delicious sundaes and fries, great service and nice atmosphere. I love the layout and decor too! We will be coming back in the future!

    (5)
  • Maria B.

We had Josephine as our server! We all loved her humorous energy! She fit right in with us! We came in just for desserts and were over the top pleased! Our sundaes were nearly 5$ each but so worth it! They are towered high! We all appreciated she asked if we were each ok with whip cream or the nuts they put on them. Of course one person didn't want whip cream but we normally have to ask her somewhere else bc it's usually an automatic on them.

  • Colleen W.

We have been here for breakfast about 4 times, dinner once and lunch once since we moved here just shy of 2 months ago. We have yet to be disappointed. I think my favorite time to go is definitely breakfast. Their breakfast selection is excellent and I love all the choices they have that are perfect for a Paleo eater like myself. There are many selections that are high protein and grain/gluten free. I had a chicken entree that was yummy, my hubby has enjoyed a few sandwhiches and I recently had the beet salad. The portions are very generous and the prices are really reasonable. The service is good, we've always had very friendly and helpful servers.

Went in Saturday mid morning and sat at my table for ten minutes, watching them proceed to seat two other parties on each side of me and take their drink orders while completely ignoring me even after trying to wave down the waitress. I let them know on my way out and got an apology but it probably would have made more sense to offer to make it up somehow, they seemed to care as much as they did about my thirst. Needless to say I went to the other breakfast place in town, who were packed and yet still managed to offer good service.

    (1)
  • Tamara M.

Love the Coffee ice cream and fried pickles! All the portions are huge and food is great!

    (4)
  • Kathleen W.

I got the Velvet's Benedict , but was really disappointed. The poached eggs were good, but the English muffin was dry and ham ok. Service was really terrible. We were completely overlooked and unattended for an extended period of time. The milkshake was good, though.

  • Jennifer K.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. Prices are fair for the portion sizes. The Cobb salad is amazing. The soups are fresh and the ice cream is to die for. Want to try something new? Try the fried pickles. Yes fried pickles. Not good for the diet but amazingly good. My husband and I go once a week. Why pay almost $20 for a tasteless salad down the street when this place is so much better at 1/2 the price.

  • Mike I.

Had a great experience hear. The food is good and the ice cream is better. Has an old look with a new feel! And they make their stuff in house.

  • Marcus A.

I don't know maybe I'm a little to critical just because I come from a bigger city. The place is Americana type food and it's good but nothing amazing. The service is above average but how come there aren't any male wait staff. Just curious.

  • Wendy B.

Yummy Comfort Food!! A lovely surprise in a small town. I had resigned myself to a lack of variety and "ho-hum" food while visiting my daughter in Galt, but the Velvet Grill is delightful. Basic comfort food, amazing bread, and outstanding ice cream. I've been back twice and will make another visit before I leave -- great breakfast menu, fun lunch and dinner menu, and the ice cream variety and quality are impressive.

    (4)
  • Cynthia S.

Service is great, food so good! Large portions, everything hot. Ice cream to die for. Regular favorites and things like lemon pound cake with chunks of pound cake in it, double chocolate port wine. Oh my my my!

  • Tom K.

This place is simply fabulous... It makes you feel like you're stepping into a fifties era diner... Wonderful customer service pleasant staff wonderful feeling great vibe... The perfect place to be. They have fabulous pancakes and everything is fresh. They make their own salsa recommend to mix the salsa with their potatoes. They make ice cream fabulous ice cream,. Would definitely ensure that you leave with a fresh pints of ice cream for home and it'll bring that feeling of eating at the Velvet Creamery right back to you all over again.

  • Melinda N.

Delicious food and awesome service! My boyfriend ordered the velvet cheese burger and he was extremely please with the juicy flavors. I had a California chicken sandwich and that was good but not as tasty as the burger. The fries and onion rings which came with our meals were freshly cooked and steaming hot! We also ordered a pint of coffee ice cream, and that was the best coffee ice cream we've ever had. It tasted like fresh brewed coffee with the right amount of cream and sugar. Just absolutely yummy! We will be back again!

Came to visit my cousin in Galt and went here for dinner on a Friday at 5:30. Food was great! Steak sandwich, French dip, burger, and spaghetti kid's meal. Service was attentive and speedy. Portions were generous and everything was delicious! My daughter got a small scoop of ice cream with her kids meal (and they were were willing to make it tiny for me-she's only two). We got the strawberry and it was delicious and had real strawberries in it too. Really nice meal in a comfortable atmosphere. We will come back if we are ever eating in Galt again!

    (5)
  • Jessica A.

We go here when we are in a pinch, not much in Galt. Breakfast is good...but I would not rave about it. I like the omletts. My husband enjoys the grilled ham and cheese. I would not recommend the split pea soup, or chicken fried steak. Salads are great. Ice cream is a hit. I have never had bad service. Ambience is great for a grill/dinner.

    (3)
  • Carmen R.

Nice little stop off of 99 in Lodi. They make their own ice cream! The burgers are huge. If you do have ice cream try the chocolate port!!! Sooo good!

We come here allot but usually come for breakfast. We came for late lunch and it was yummy. Summer was our server and she was sweet and friendly. Husband had a bacon burger and I had the Ruben.

This is an update to my previous review. Service is still descent and food has gone up a notch or two since my last visit. For breakfast in Galt, it's either here or Denny's. I will usually drive to Lodi or Elk Grove for a descent breakfast on weekends. I have talked to several people (including a previous employee) and found out that this Velvet creamery had a good deal of teen-agers running the kitchen and doing most of the cooking. Probably explains much of the mistakes made on my orders and the mediocrity of the meals I have had here. I do believe the food is getting better but as for now, I would still rather drive 15-20 min for a descent breakfast. On a positive note, their ice cream sundays have always been great!

Had the Baja burger with sweet potato fries and chipotle ranch... Thought that was as good as it got until the ice cream came out... Ready to burst, but it was worth every single bite. This place is on the list of stops when I come back into town.

Amazing top quality food. Go-to diner in Galt, everything at this restaurant is delicious, except for the fish tacos, but that's the only thing. Service is very friendly, a place I could be a regular at.

The food is good... so good that my wife and I seriously weighed out whether it would be worth the 100-miles-each-way drive just to eat here. (Not quite. We'd certainly return if in the area though.) We shared a grilled ham and cheese sandwich (which has 3 slices of bread like a club sandwich) and an avocado-bacon-cheddar burger. Each came with fries and a pickle spear. Good portion sizes and delicious. We also tasted the strawberry milkshake, which was creamy and tasty. Prices are middling for this sort of place/food, with sandwiches coming in around $10. Service was mediocre at best. Our waitress wasn't very cordial. She seemed confused and perturbed that we had already been brought silverware and napkins. She was also not very attentive to refill waters, which was an issue because the water cups are tiny. At one point the hostess used her thumb to... uh... scratch the inside of her nose. :\ I'm just thankful it wasn't a person who handles the food. food: 4.5 stars value: 3 stars service: 2.5 stars overall: 3.75 stars
