Two greasy spoon breakfasts for sixteen bucks - this isn't the pinnacle of breakfast to be had but it's damn awesome for the price. I recommend this spot for a quick, unpretentious breakfast. I had the Jr. Giant One-Egger: One egg over easy Hash browns with melted cheese on top Linguica Sourdough toast w butter and jam $3.85 The fiancee and I shared a side of two pancakes for $1.85 and he had his own Giant Two-Egger which was essentially the same breakfast as mine but a double-portion for $5.75. Don't come here for the ambiance - this location looks like an old rundown restaurant that would fit well on the set of "Napolean Dynamite".

Just ate here yesterday, so good! Definitely the best place to go for burgers!

I come here about twice a week just for the pies. I'm a huge custard pie fan and its sometimes hard to find. The custard pie is great as well as the lemon meringue. The cheesecake is a little sketchy. Customer service is always a little hit or miss, it seems like every week they are training someone new, talk about turnover.

I don't get how this place got 3.5 stars? I understand that the food is over-the-top bomb, but shit, there's a cleanliness factor that I expect at restaurant chains. When I walk in a place and start to cringe because of the dirtiness, I think there's a problem. TO GO PLEASE. THNX.

  • Jae S.

Dunno. It's really just ok. Pretty standard burger, not huge, not particularly good. Same with the chili fries. Slightly overpriced compared to innout, but that's understandable. I guess I gotta try the pie sometime.

If you want a good BOYGAH then come here! The bacon cheeseburger is lovely! They use real thick cuts of bacon and they cook the burger meat just right! Very flavorful and tasty! There breakfast is also pretty good! You can also get a nice grilled cheese sammich if you have a craving for one! Good job guys!

Ordered take-out when we had not even a cracker in our pantry. I went with the grilled cheese sandwich and the BF had their cheesburger. With our two sandwiches and fries everything came up to $8. love it. The grilled cheese sandwich was amazing (I know it sounds a little dramatic but it was that good) I liked the fact that they dressed it up like a burger which is what made all the difference. The BF had a hard time finishing his cheeseburger b/c they're pretty huge but he wasn't complaining. Great cheap eats.

So bad for you, but sooo delicious at the same time. So delicious. I love getting the grilled cheese with everything on it and grilled onions. Droooooooool. Sometimes it takes a while to get your food because they work pretty slow. I love the pie and cheesecake too. yum..

I go to Nations whenever I go back home it's by far my favorite burger and they serve a great breakfast. I had the bacon burger on one night it was great just the way I remember and on another day I had the breakfast the meat portions looked a little smaller but still one of the best breakfast around.

I remember riding my bike to Nation's in Concord and sitting at the counter for the best chocolate shakes ever! That was almost 30 years ago and they're still the bomb. They're cheeseburgers are one of my favorites because of the Miracle Whip. I don't eat MW otherwise but it's great on the burger. Everything is made to order and when it's ordered so it's always hot and fresh. Their breakfasts are yumm-my and their prices cannot be beat. I'd choose Nation's over all the breakfast spots around. I usually eat there so I appreciate the cleanliness. The staff is nice. Let's not forget those pies. Their banana cream is my favorite around and their strawberry can't be beat. Try it!! Be sure to pre-order for the holidays because those suckers sell out!!!

I grew up in the Fremont area and Nations is the best fastfood burger you can get! The pies are absolutely to die for as well! This is by far one of my favorite restaurants in the country (yes, it's even better than In N Out) and everytime I go back home I always make it a point to stop for my Nations burger!!

Very good food. I like it better than In-n-out. =] and the only thing I have to complain about is that the burgers got smaller recently and that the bathrooms are not wheelchair accessible.

I love nations.Their burgers, fries, hot dogs,shakes,pies,cheesecake.....YUM. the service is okay and the wait is a little long, but that's probably because they make it when you order it.I just had their banana creme pie with some french vanilla ice cream on thanksgiving and let me just say, it was heaven on earth.

Breaskfast is greaaat here & the burgers are okay but the pies are the greatest. The banana creme pie is a must try! The best of the best.

Maybe more like 3.5 but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. I was hankering for a falafel from Falafels, etc. (Why the hell would I be going all the way out to Fremont otherwise?) But, they are closed on Monday. Saw Nation's near by and it had a been-there-forever divey dumpy feel to the place. It beckoned me in to give it a try. Insides are basic, frayed around the edges fast food chain meets the corner breakfast diner. (Apparently they serve a decent breakfast.) I ordered a cheeseburger with fries (next to no alternatives for sides). Apparently they have salmon and veggie burgers. Ordered it to go: BIG MISTAKE. I went to open up the bag and it was the most poorly assembled drippy mess I've ever had the honor of having landing in my lap. I won't be able to get up from my desk for the rest of the afternoon. It had all the standard, fresh toppings such as tomato, lettuce and onions. It had one too many tomatoes and the onion slice was at least a half an inch thick. Supercallafrajalistic expi-halitosis! Yet another reason to not get up from my desk this afternoon. No attempt to pat it down a skosh to keep it from falling apart at first handling. Needless to say, it was a bit of a dining disaster. It tasted fine; better than fine. I would probably just be as well off at a Jeffery's or the Counter where I could at least manage my own condiment construction. If I for some unexplainable reason need to have another hamburger in Fremont, I will at least know enough to eat in.

The only thing my stingy self could ever summon enough money for was a cheeseburger. I gawk at the pies they look freaking delicious but I'm too stingy. Anyways, the cheeseburgers are out of this world. there's something special about that mayo or something that they put in there, because i can't put it down till it's gone. The fries are par to sub-par. The only thing refraining me from giving this store full score is the price. It's quite expensive: over 4 bucks for just a cheeseburger is just a little too much for a lunch break if I intend to eat and drink other things also. Maybe I'll get a pie next time. I hear they're pretty good. But it's worth just going there for their cheeseburger.

  • Andrea C.

I tried their breakfast for the first time recently and it was not great at all.. It was kinda flavorless to me.. =( However, they have delicious burgers, grilled cheese, and PIES!! Yummm. Banana cream pie is soooo good here! I also love their grilled cheese.. don't know why, but it's just so good!! Ideal for Lenten Fridays when you can't eat meat ;) haha. Their pie though.. so good!!

I've been coming here since I was a little kid. Drinking their mikshakes, eating their burgers, their pies, and their breakfasts! :D Recently I had a burger and I forgot how big and tasty it was. You can never go wrong with Nations! The price is definitely attractive also. Good price and good food. I also got a strawberry cheesecake to go. It was yummy! :D

Ambiance 3.5 Service 3 Food 3.5 If you average the above scores, you dont get a 4...but sometimes the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Nation's tends to be under-rated. In fairness, my recent visits have all been to order their basic yet tasty breakfast dishes...specifically the 2 egger. The place is as close to a 'diner' as we will likely have in fremont. I know we have a few actual diners in fremont but this place has a great atmosphere for meand has been around for quite a bit. You usually see a diverse and eclectic group of customers, their menu is straightfwd and the food is tasty. The counter service tends to be efficient and food is prepared fresh and quickly. Lastly, the place seems to be generally clean and tidy. The menu here isnt nearly as extensive as east cost 'real' diners but you are trading for efficiency, freshness and cleanliness.

Well I got tired of driving back and fourth to Hayward from Milpitas, so I started going to the Nation's in Fremont. This hole in the wall joint is hidden near the hub. The whole place gives you a retro feeling because of the old school dinner look outside and inside. The workers aren't too enthusiastic about their job, and the old hispanic lady likes to watch you eat your food too. LOL. Now their burgers are still great though, not as good as the Hayward/Daly City locations, but good enough for the short drive for me. I recommend this place for a good bite with the friends or fambam.

I've been a big fan of nation's since I was a kid. I will always remember getting a huge chesseburger and crispy fries with my dad at the local nations. If you are a huge fan of burgers, you'll love this place. Also, this is one of the few locations that servers breakfast all day which I do crave during the late night hours. The prices are fair (in relation to the portion size) and is perfect if your on a tight budget. I would also suggest to the pie fanatics to try the banana cream, if you have room. If your in town, this is a place you should try at least once. The place may not be super clean and cashier seems to be always having a bad day, but the great food is the reason why I keep coming back.

Ok the exterior &interior are a little shabby. But the breakfast is priced very inexpensively, you get a lot of food &its D-lish! The pies are amazing especially the banana cream pie :) the burgers can get into the 7$-8$ range. Then you have to order fries separately. But they are juicy &come stacked! Yeah the service is so so. &they don't always wipe down table right away but the food &prices are too good! It does get jammed every morning! So be prepared! Places get packed like this for a reason. Because they're good!

The pumpkin cheese cake pie was really good. The Banana Cream Pie was good too. I'd definitely coming here again next thanksgiving for pies. Didn't try any of there fast food, just there for the pies.

Ok, lets be honest. This place is old; customer service sucks; and the inside isn't that nice either, but if I want a place for a kick ass grilled cheese sandwich, breakfast platter, or CHOCOLATE PIE then this is my #1 spot. I will gladly order from the subpar cashier and sit in the crappy booths if I have the opportunity to come to Fremont and get any of the previously mentioned items. Sure this place isn't the healthiest place to eat but once and a while you have to indulge yourself - you only live once! Don't get me wrong.. I'm a health nut too and especially since I started my MMA training again I can't really have this stuff every week BUT I'm just saying SOMETIMES (like once a month) just suck it up and eat that stuff that isn't good for you - it'll make you happy =) And their other pies are great too but the chocolate is one of my personal faves. So give me your best shot Nation's because despite all the crap you can throw at me, I'll take it as long as I get my faves.

Let me start off by saying that the service was CRAP!!! I went there for lunch on a Thursday. It was not busy. three people in there, andI was the only one in line. Let me remind you there were 3 people working. So I'm standing in line, waiting for someone to acknowledge me, I'm not too irritated as I just walked in 30 seconds ago, but I didn't try to get their attention. The phone rings and one girl goes to answer it, seeing that I've been standing in line, she proceeds to take someones large phone order. I'm still waiting... She gets off the ohone 3 minutes later and takes my order of chili dog and french fries. waiting waiting waiting... 15 minutes later I look to see that my hotdog was almost ready...nope, no hotdog in sight. I just ask for my fries, I'm STARVING. The large phone prder of 4 burgers is on the grill, finally someone decides to slice me a hotdog and throw it on the grill. I'm extremely irritated, and starving. I get my food with 6 minutes to spare. I had to eat so fast, I am now writing this with a stomach ache from scarfing down what I could of my lunch... I will NEVER come back.

I LOVE Nation's! They are the secret weapon for indulging my inside glutton. They have (as described) giant burgers, which are juicy and full of flavor! They have fresh lettuce and tomatoes, and their grilled onions are cooked just right. I always get the chili cheese fries - they're not the best I've ever had, but they definitely hit the spot. Also, you have to try their shakes! I always have the strawberry chocolate (you can mix the flavors) and it goes with the burger flawlessly! I have yet to try their pies, but they look amazing and I always see people awing over them!

There used to be one like this in San Jose, but they closed it down and now there's a bunch of condos and townhomes there. I've had breakfast and lunch at Nation's and both eats are great. Great quality. Good portions. Great price. The menu has something for everyone. I think my favorite at Nation's is a hamburger with chili fries. You can't go wrong with that!

Great burgers, but last time I remember when dining in is that they would give more fries.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!!!!!!! We ordered our food, and while waiting I checked my receipt (they've messed my order up before) and I noticed that they charged my for a bacon hamburger, not a bacon cheeseburger, so I asked my fiance if he ordered a cheeseburger or hamburger, stupid question he ALWAYS gets a bacon cheeseburger. I walked up there to inform them that my order was wrong and said I would even pay for the cheese, the order taker told me we ordered a bacon hamburger... WTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why in on God's green earth would I order a bacon hamburger when I wanted a bacon cheeseburger (and I said this to the dumbie taking orders, Zabuilah). So he rudely, charged me $0.66 for the cheese, and the chicks making the food didn't even put the cheese on the burger. So I took it back, and it took all my nerve not to throw the burger at her, and said put the cheese on the burger I paid for it, so obviously I want it on there. She didn't say a single word to me, and put the cheese on the burger and slammed it on a tray and shoved it at me. Where is a smile or something. I hate that I used to love Nations, but the last year or so the service has gone down the drain. The #1 rule of customer service is that the customer is always right. Am I wrong? Don't think so I work in customer service. If I pulled something like that at work I would be in some serious trouble. So if you do end up going there, check your receipt and make sure you have what you want on your ticket, and watch out for those trainee order takers, they mess up and tell you that you were wrong.

The shakes were awesome. The fries were awesome. The burger was great. BUT DA BOMB was the grilled cheese sandwich. I think it was the best grilled cheese I've had in my life. You can get it fancied up but I had it just plain cheese on white bread and it was seriously so good I couldn't stop eating it. Considering I just ate a hamburger and fries and I was just going to have one bite of my son's sandwich, that's saying a lot. The only thing that makes the place 4 stars instead of 5 are the prices. I wouldn't say that the taste is 100% better than Chubby Burger on Thorton but the price for a hamburger, fries and drink at Nation's are about 2x the burger special at Chubby, which is $5.49 and includes fries and a medium drink. That said, I will be going back to Nation's next time I have a grilled cheese craving. Sooooooooooo good.

  • Stacey T.

Yummy yummy! A great place to grab some greasy hangover food. I agree with some that it may not be as good as Bob's Giant Burgers, but it is a lot faster - and they take call-ahead orders so by the time you get there you're ready to rock. great pies too! :-)

    (4)
  • Betty N.

well the burgers are huge and pretty good, but service is slow and disorganized. It took FOREVER to put in our order. The line wasn't too long, about 4 people or so but the workers didn't have it together.

I don't understand- how on earth can you fuck up a grilled cheese? One very generous star. No one puts onions on my grilled cheese and gets away with it- NO ONE!

  • Sean S.

This place is gross. I ate here a couple times because I like the chain &the breakfast price is very economical. However the place just kept getting dirtier & dirtier. The last time I went, EVERY table had trash on it. I guess by the "help wanted" sign in front they didn't have anyone to bus tables so they just left the tables dirty! I was shocked. I've never seen a restaurant run in such a way and I won't be back.

Best spot to go when you're drunk on the weekends or up early in the mornings. I always end up buying a slice of pumpkin pie and chocolate creme pie every time I come here. Everything from the breakfast to the burgers is good. Just real greasy. This place is evil if you're counting calories like me. But then again, they make some of the best pies on earth. So it's worth it once in a while. Also they don't charge taxes on whole and half pies. The catch is they aren't allowed to give you any forks or knives to eat it with. Which is fine with me cause pie taste better when you eat it with your hands =).

=) Delicious burgers! Even thou I hardly crave for burgers this is the only place I'll go to in Fremont for burgers.

Funky location. You'll most likely pass it up the first time you try to find it. I come here with my dad for saturday breakfast. This is a no nonsense place. Just order, pick up food, sit down, eat, bus tray, don't leave a tip. I come here when Denny's is too busy. Banana cream pie is delicious. Just had my first salmon burger from Nations and it was great! Definately come back here to get my Omega-3 fatty acids!

Burgers: delicious Chili hot dogs: A bit on the salty side, but good if you want your fix of chili dogs. Chili Cheese Fries: Delicious! They aren't stingy with the chili and the fires are very good. Shakes: A bit too sweet Cheesecake: Decent. Not the best I've ever had, but you can't go too wrong with cheesecake. Service: Terrible. - They don't wear gloves -- and believe me, they touch EVERYTHING. It always makes me cringe when I watch them prepare the food. I try to think beyond my hygiene morales when I eat the food. - I've seen them yell at customers even when getting the order wrong. Last time I saw a lady complain about her order. She's like "I ordered two separate orders, can you put it on two separate plates?" The woman who worked there just took her bare hands and flopped the pancakes onto another plate. She's like "there, done, so easy, you can do it yourself." OMG! Never going back to this nations again! I better not have a craving for it!!!

so for father's day last year, one of my grandparents' friends brought pies from nations and i loved them. since we went to falafel etc. for dinner, we decided to go across the parking lot to nation's for pie. julia and i loved our cherry cheesecake and chocolate cream pie. angie's pecan pie had some weird filling but i think she liked the actual pecans.

Good place to eat, especially for burgers. Breakfast is ok, nothing special. Gotta love the pies though! Sometimes it takes a while to get your food, especially if they're short on cooks.

    (3)
  • Katy K.

I've had the cheeseburger and their gardenburger. Both are really good The reason why I love their burgers is because they put a good amount of toppings on them and it's always really fresh. The only bad thing is the wait sometimes, so I always call in my order first and pick it up.

  • Jovi C.

If you're not shy about getting yourself a case of food poisoning, or perhaps a massive heart attack, then by all means, please stop by Nation's in Fremont, across from the Fremont hub. Could a cheeseburger possibly have more grease on it than a tub of Crisco, and could the service be any more slow and scary? I understand cheeseburgers and fries aren't for the low-calorie or low-fat minded, but this place is GREASY. I would rather go to Carl's Jr. or any other fast food place than contaminate my insides with the low-quality garbage they serve here at Nation's. The place is dirty, dirty, dirty, too.

  • Connie K.

I wish I could give less than one star. I'm so upset with this place I don't even want to write anything else; just read all the other one and two stars and you'll get the gist.

  • Will S.

This place has very poor service. The manager does a poor job of running the place. I made a call in order for some pie. They said they had a whole one on thee shelf.when I came tip pick it up it was already cut in half. When I came to pick up my pie they told me they forgot that I ordered earlier. Still the manager would not talk to me. This use to be a nice place!

  • Ninja C.

I've been coming to this Nation's for a long time and only rarely go since I don't want to die anytime soon of a heart attack. The burgers are fairly big and are cooked to order. This usually means a wait time, if busy, a long wait time. I've noticed that the workers generally aren't very nice. You've heard of "service with a smile", right? Here it is just service. Any special requests (light on mayo, cup of water, etc) and you'll likely get an eyeroll or a loud exhale. The food itself is good. The lettuce on the burgers usually sucks and they glop on too much mayo (hence the special request) but the fries are decent and the strawberry shakes rock. But yeah, these are greasy burgers with only reheated White Castle sliders holding the title of "Grease King". Never tried the breakfast though it seems pretty popular.

OMG. I am so full I can barely breathe. I think splitting that chocolate cream pie with the hubby was a bad idea. We should have skipped it all together. Or maybe it was the chili cheese fries that we should have skipped on. Nah, I think it was the Bacon Cheeseburger that we should have split instead of getting one each. Whatever the case maybe...WOW, what a lunch. I think I need a nap.

Appalling, atrocious, awful, dire, disastrous, disturbing, dreadful, ghastly, gruesome, horrendous, horrible, horrid, horrifying, inconvenient, poor, repulsive, revolting, rotten, unpleasant, vile.... TERRIBLE in every sense of the word. I love Nations, but this location is *see above*. Service: Our order took fifteen minutes to arrive; the guy next to us had to wait for half an hour so I considered ourselves lucky. Condiment bar: The onions were old and floppy, the tomatoes were nearly rotten, and their ketchup dispenser sprays everywhere, BUT the container you place under it. Food: Fries were soggy, linguiza seemed to be a roll of pork fat which was boiled in lard, over-easy eggs were runny.... Holy hell, now that I think of it, I can't believe I paid for that crap.

  • Victor B.

This place is disgusting, the pies looked old in the display, and it looked as if the floor hadnt been mopped in years. Garbage, food, crumbs, ketchup smears(old and crusted) and etc were everywhere. I went into the bathroom to wash my hands (compulsory likely to the environment I found myself in) and it smelled/looked/felt like a gas station. Came out to a Costco patty with freezer burn, watered down Coke, and limp fries. The limp fries did it for me- I took two bites of my burger to confirm that I had just paid for a manufactured burger and got up and left. I may make my kids eat here as a punishment.

im cool on nation's in fremont had to wait 20 minutes for a breakfast i can cook in 10 minutes.... the order was wrong and i just sat there trying to choke my food down mad as fuck..... damn you fremont nation..... should have took my ass to normans!!!

  • Tarra R.

Grease and pie... what else could you want? I have to say that I love the hash browns and the bacon burger.... if you ask them to in the morning while they are making breakfast they will make you a "heart attack" burger. Its the bacon burger with a fried egg and hash browns on the side... YUMMMooooo

  • Neil K.

Heard Rave reviews about this place for years so I decided to take a go. Well, the burgers weren't that great, mainly because they were really dry, even when adding condiments. But their hotdogs were quite decent. It's better than fast food McDonalds, but not that out of this world.

Orders are wrong most of the time. Customer Service is HORRIBLE!! We asked the guy (Dennis) to make sure the bread was toasted with the breakfast meal because last time it hadnt been toasted and he said 'Do you want me to cook breakfast for you too?' He said you have to order the toast toasted ...wtf?? It's fun to go in now and order an omelet with toast, toasted especially when Dennis is working. It gets one star for existing and having nommy pies

This is the grossest nations i have ever seen. as soon as i walked in i wanted to leave. everything looked really dirty including the staff. Once i got my food, i could barely eat it thinking about the place it was made and ended up throwing most of it out.

Growing up, everytime someone said "Nation's" I would immediately find enough money to scrounge up a great burger and fries. Now, I would rather give it to my worst enemy than Nations. Phoned in an order (rather simple order - bacon cheeseburger plain, bacon hamburger, harvester no onions add cheese, 3 fries, vanilla shake). Call was placed at 5:44pm on a thursday evening to which they said it would be ready in 10 minutes. Well, I had an errand to run, and 10 minutes seemed kinda cutting it, so I got there about 6:10pm, figuring it would all definately be done by then. No. One person in front of me at the counter... they messed up her pie order. Half strawberry, half banana cream. That's really not hard. I should have known. That encounter took about 7 minutes. My food should definately be ready now, maybe even cold. No. I get to the register, to see a regular employee and a trainee. The phone rings. He tells me to wait. Ok, fine. I send a text while he's on the phone. No biggie. He then takes my order (I've been there for about 10 minutes). I tell him it's a take out order for *****. He takes the money, says it will be ready in a minute. Ok. Minute, two, three, ten. The cook is flying solo.. but this is rediculous. The order was placed at this point 30 minutes ago. I ask Ray if the food is almost ready or if that's what she's cooking, he says 'We have to make the fries when the customer arrives.' To which I replied "ok, but you JUST put them in". He looks at me and walks away. And the famous counter has these paper signs that say DO NOT SIT HERE. Eff that, I sat there and watched while they cooked. One cannot SIT at a COUNTER??? Wow. DING Fries are done. I get my bags and go to the car. It's now 6:30pm. 45 minutes after the order was placed. I check the bags... only ONE order of fries are there. Grab the bags, muster enough nicey in me to not hit anyone and walk back in. I request the manager immediately. Explain to a woman with a plastic smile about the time frame of the order, the error in the items and the lack of customer service, to which she replied "Let me give you a card." Huh? She hands me this free burger card... already signed and filled out. I'm wondering if she has to do this often and that is the reason she has a plastic smile and cards ready to go. Needless to say, I told her the crew sucked and that it would be a cold day in hell before I would come back and use the card. Strangely she was still smiling and nodding. Honestly, I don't think she gave a rats ass what I said. Years ago this place was slammed. ALWAYS slammed! Regardless of recession, wages, age, race, whatever.. you would NEVER hear on the phone that an order would be ready in 10 minutes because it would take them 10 minutes just to get to the ticket, and rightfully so because the LINES were literally out the door and sometimes standing room only to eat. Today there were 2 people sitting at a table when I arrived and 2 different people sitting there when I left. I have pity for them. They only get 1 star because I can't leave that part blank, but if I could, I would.

Since my last review, I have been back here a couple times. I had a burger which was actually pretty delicious and pretty big, especially for the price. I've also tried a couple of the pies, and it is true... they are great!!! YUM!

I LOVE NATIONS!!!!!!!! They are the sole reason why I am so rotund, I love their harvest burgers with cheese and their grilled cheese on sourdough with grilled onions. GO TO NATIONS, you will not be disappointed

This Nation's gets 4 stars because I can't give 3.5. The service is typically a bit slow when things get busy and that means that you have to bus your own table. If you go at an odd time then you are usually OK...fuhget about it on weekends or Friday nights... Now, about the food...this is the place for a big, juicy (i.e., greasy) hamburger. It is the $6 burger, for $3.95 (that's with cheese, mutha fu**a). If you have a small or average sized mouth, then I'd say no onions and no lettuce, this is what seems to make the burger 5" thick and almost impossible to eat! I like that they wrap it in paper, it's very nice when the grease starts a drippin'. Fries and a thick shake add nicely to the meal, but you better be ready to be in a food coma after this. Oh, and they don't salt the fries, you get to do that yourself, good for those who don't want extra salt. The real reason you go here though is for the pies. Banana cream, Pumpkin, fresh Strawberry, mmm...mmm...good! Their pies are mile high and oh sooo good. I would highly suggest them for parties and holidays.

Burgers are okay. Had fries with the burger - too oily. I do not like the fact that you smell like a deep fryer when you leave Nations. Would go to Bob's Giant Burgers instead.

One day my coworkers and I were having a discussion about pie. HAHA. I went on my lunch and was craving pie, so I decided to go here and buy one. Yes, a whole one. I got a banana cream pie and the lady who helped me was nice. But it was weird that she wouldn't give me a fork. Like, she said it's a rule that anyone who buys a whole pie isn't allowed to get a fork. What the?? Just one plastic fork...so I can have a bite of my whole pie before work... that's all I wanted. What a strange rule. It was okay though because I went back to work anyway and got a fork and plate from there and sat down in the back of the kitchen to have a slice. Ohhhhh, heaven.

Honestly, in all my years in the Bay Area, I never understood the appeal of Nation's. Yes, they make gargantuan burgers that make for a meal and a half, but there's still something to be said for taste and this just doesn't have it. Maybe it's that rancid Miracle Whip crap that they slather on their burgers, but who knows. I just never found their burgers appealing at all. Still, I give them credit for generally maintaining late hours, having breakfast items on the menu, and providing one of the few places that serves up a variety of pies during those late hours. Which brings me to the Fremont location. My goodness what a disaster both times I've been there ... The stories about trash cans not being emptied, I've seen it. The stories about tables not getting cleared, that too I've seen. And the last time I was here (probably a year ago), there was one broken table up near the front entrance marked off with yellow crime zone tape! Excuse me, but is there some outline of a corpse and a CSI that I should be on the lookout for? Then that brings me back to the burgers. I'm not much a Nation's fan to begin with, but the burger that got served up was not good even by Nation's standards. The patty looked like it had been cooked on a dirty grill that needed some scraping and it was overcooked. I thought I could redeem the trip by ordering some pie, but none of my first three choices were available, so I gave up ... on this place permanently.

I have been going to Nations since I was kid. Growing up, I went to the one in San Leandro. Now I go to this one. Burgers are HUGE and so good. I love their grilled cheese sandwiches. Shakes are very fulfilling. It can get a little expensive when you order the food with fries and drinks for the family, but worth it!

I was introduced to this place by Janet and it was a great breakfast. The best came after though, with the greatest banana cream pie I've ever had (wasn't a fan until i tried it here). I'm digging the classic diner feel they have going on here too. Now I'm ready for more pie.

Honestly the place is not as clean as it should be, the building is borderline run-down, and you'll probably have your order taken by an unhappy employee BUT for some reason I just love the extra giant breakfast (no meat, yes this is an option!) and grilled cheese sandwich here. The portions are huge and the prices are pretty reasonable.

One of the finest establishments in Fremont. Good freeking burgers and fries. Huge fresh slices of vegetables and a nice thick hamburger patty, their special dressing, and some good cheese... it hardly fits in my mouth!! Did I mention I stopped eating ground beef long ago, but i make an exception for these wonderful meat treats. mmmm.

    (5)
  • Mike C.

Burgers could be bigger (well... the patty could be) but they are certainly tasty! Lines out the door on Sunday morning attest to the breakfast as well. I've been mulling it over recently and finding that I think I actually like Nations more than Bob's Burger in Fremont. I think Nations has better fries plus the addition of pies and killer breakfast plates makes me shift my vote! Sorry Bob...

Ok so i went went wit the two kids below me james and cody and a couple of others a few weeks ago. So we walk into a room in which i think if filled wit the cast from the BIGGEST LOSERS.I mean its not even funny its lik DAYUMMMM!!!!!!!! Anyways so i go and order myself a nice fat burger.First off the burger sucks its lik the most unhealthy burger ive tryed its lik plankton's f**king chum sh*t burger thing. Its gross...And the service, it suks cuz first off this is a burger place but you got an dirty a** lady cookin all ur stuff and she doesnt even wear gloves, or wash her hands. This is the most unsanitary sh*t joint in the world. So yea i get my burger and i look done its the most gruesome site in the world. Its worse than a week old dead body. And i take a bite and blood squirts everywhere! The dam meats not cooked all the way. For christ's sake, this isnt steak, its a burger, burgers arent supposed to come in bloody rare. So than after the burger i try a slice of pie. No joke the slice is f**kin huge! And i take a bite its so sweet. Lik too sweet they dont use whipped cream but a cheap frosting lik you take a bite and you can feel the sugar juss eat away at your teeth. And my friend cody got the chocolate pie which looked really good and i asked for a bite and it tasted HORRIBLE!!! That chocolate pie was the WORST thing i have ever put in my mouth it was so bitter and unsatisfying. So the only reason i give this place 1/5 stars is because my computer wont let me give it no stars so yea.WORST PLACE EVER!!! If you disagree with me than well u have no taste for REAL food.

By far the best burger I've eaten. Growing up in Alameda and eating here through my younger years I was excited that there was one in Fremont where I stay now. I've tried everything from the burgers, shakes and breakfast. Fries are a must with any meal at anytime. And ALWAYS save room for dessert. My personal fave......lemon cream pie ;)

  • Resa W.

I admit I'm a sucker for cheap breakfasts and you can still find me here instead of IHOP or the pancake house right next door. But 1) the area is incredibly shady--not inviting at all, and if by any chance you've gone in the back to the bathroom you'd probably be terrified of what goes on back there as well. 2) I don't know if it's even sanitary--it looks pretty rundown and dirty and one time my friend found a bug in his drink. Yet, we continue to go, and the food continues to taste decent, so I guess I can't complain THAT much. I had a pecan pie which was okay for about one bite and then went nasty, but their pancakes are fine (though I don't know how you could make pancakes taste bad), burgers are as good as any, and the banana creme pie is hard to beat. Their ice cream is just like Wendy's-style soft serve frostys and I think cheaper, too, if I remember correctly. But there's one thing you must know. BANANA CREME PIE. Do it.

This place is definitely a hole-in-the-wall. It's dirty, hidden, and the staff is utterly despondent, which is why I took off one star. I forgive it all, because of the pies. Oh, the pies. Yeah, the burgers are huge and very tasty (although they come with way to much mayo for my tastes), and I enjoy the chili cheese fries, but the real reason I come here is for pie. The cheesecake has a slight hint of lemony goodness, the lemon meringue is amazing, the chocolate cream is rich and creamy with a pudding-like taste without going overboard, and the berry pie is sweet and delicious. The pies are all reasonably priced as well, and with nation's open late, it definitely fulfills my late night cravings time and again. If you're in the area, you should definitely check it out.

i know what you're thinking. khanh wrote a review for nation's giant hamburgers & great pies on valentine's day. he must have eaten somewhere nice with his wife and something reminded him about the burgers, fries, or pie there. but no, you are wrong. yes, i took my wife to nation's for valentine's day. in my defense, SHE wanted to go here. i actually forgot that she told me yesterday. i went home from work early and bought groceries at safeway to make the chicken maderia from cheesecake factory. oh yes, i can cook, and yes, it tastes just like the one from cheesecake. i'm not bragging though. OK, maybe a little bit, but i copied a recipe online. anyway, this nation's serves great, artery-clogging food just like all the other nation's, but the service is kinda blah. i don't come to nation's for the service anyway, but dang, theres a minimum i expect. oh well. this reminds me of where i took kathy last year. again, SHE wanted pick up stix. if you don't know what that is, it's a step up from panda express. a very small step, you could say a panda step. lame... yes.

I used to go to Nation's often when I worked at the nearby 24 Hour Fitness. I really liked getting breakfast from there. The price is pretty okay for some eggs, pancakes, bacon and sausage. One dish always filled up me and my coworker since we shared the big thing. Of course, Nation's is also wonderful for their yummy pies. I tried their strawberry pie and if I could, I'd have another one right now. Their cheesecake isn't so great, but their chocolate mousse cake and banana cream pie are delicious. I don't even like bananas, but I give them props for that banana cream pie. Decent restaurant, nothing special about all the food (simple American stuff) but nice to have when you're nearby.

Nation's makes by far one of the best burgers in the bay area for the price. I dont care how long I had to wait for my order last time, when i finally got home and sat down for my bacon cheeseburger i knew it was worth it. Welcome to flavor country.

Not a bad place for what it is. I went here because Falafel's etc nextdoor was closed on Mondays ( what a bummer). Anyways, I had the cheeseburger which is auto cooked well done, but juicy nontheless. A solid burger with fries and chili. The chili is a great deal and huge! I'd compare this place to in & out but a different flavor. There's a salad bar with fresh onions that you can put in the chili =D

    (3)
  • Jim D.

The burgers come with huge thick slices of onions and tomatoes with a pile of lettuce. I don't like this so I get the cheeseburger no lettuce or tomatoes with grilled onions and bacon so it is all good.I used to get the 3 egg breakfast but I haven't been here for a while.

Good chili cheese fries and breakfast, but they kinda skimp on the portions compared to other locations. :( Plus, the location isn't very inviting.

This place has delicious burgers. i swear their mayo has heroine in it because its so good and addicting. the breakfast is ok, nothing special from what i've had but the burgers keep me coming back. and they're under 5 bucks. its much better than any drive thru place and the prices are about the same.

  • Ava B.

This place is evil. I don't think there's anything under 500 calories on the menu (how come there's no nutritional menu on the website?). I probably would never ingest any of this deep fried food or step foot in here. On the rare occasion that my s.o. goes here (his friend LURVES it here), I make him bring back a small slice of coconut pie, which is really delicious. Chocolate creme pie is good too but they ran out last time - Boo. Other pies=not so good. Other than those two, this place is nasty and gross. You will gain 15 lbs just walking thru the door and inhaling the off-greasing.

Great cheeseburgers. Ask for light mayo and onions or you will be in for a big messy treat.

I went here a few times because I heard it was delicious. Unfortunately it was all just hype because the food was just alright. You barely get any fries in your order.. One of the employees here really irked me.. He was rude, and when he gave me my cup, he practically stuck his whole hand in it! Please use the bathroom before you go here because the one over here is truly disgusting and will make you lose your appetite. I haven't gone back to this place ever since my cup was infected with his dirty hand.

I've only recently rediscovered Nation's after my girlfriend stated that she had never had been there before. I've been hooked on In & Out for years but recently Nation's has been my go to spot for a slammin' burger. The last time I was there, the cashier asked me a new question, "would you like your onions grilled?" HELLJEAHS! i thought but i think i said "yes. please." This particular location is in the dumpy old shopping germantown shopping center and the interior looks like it hasnt been remodeled since the late 70's but the burgers are soooo good. Last time I was their, my GF and I were scoping out the chef to see if we could pick up and trade secrets. I saw the chef slap 2 pieces of american cheese, flat on the griddle, then scoop them up with the spatula and plop them onto a plate of chili fries. wait.. so i can get fried cheese on my chili fries?? once again Nation's.. HELLJEAHS! The pies are also uber awesome. My cheeseburger doesnt taste the same without a slice of lemon meringue to top it off. And you if buy the whole pie, you get a sweet Nation's Pie tin! Nothing like a free pie tin, right kids? Thanks for the awesome burgers and showin' up those sunday school kids over at In & Out burger!

The name should be Nation's Medium Hamburgers & Okay Pies. It's adequate if you want a cheap burger and a slice of pie. Good fried food as well. The milkshakes are good, too. But the burgers aren't really that great. They're just okay. In 7 years I've only come here twice, if that tells you anything.

Having just walked out of the Original Pancake House (one star) I went down the street to this hidden little fast food grill joint. I gotta admit, it is a good standby place. Of all the chains, their hamburgers stand up near the top. When I was travelling alot overseas, hamburgers are one of the things I missed in American cooking: Nations was a frequent quencher of that crave. However, for a good, grilled breakfast at a great price, its not bad. Not a classy restaurant by any stretch, but for a basic bacon and eggs with hash browns and toast, its not bad. I got the "junior plate." for $4.... it was larger than Denny's Slam. My companion got the giant size -- $7 I think. I would not have been able to finish it... and its hard to ruin bacon and eggs with hash browns and toast, Want gourmet breakfast--- go someplace else. Just hungry... give it a try. It's hidden in the back of the parking lot at the Original Pancake House, and hard to find.

I'm vegetarian, so I won't sound like all these whiners about calories, but I could eat those fries for DAYS. The veggie burger is good, pie is yummy and fries are SUPER-FAB!

  • Ruby R.

First things first: The food is huge so either share or come with a huge (and I mean huge) appetite. The fries don't come with the burger so you have to order them on the side. But fries aren't really necessary when you have such huge burgers. I had the grilled chicken burger. It comes with a lot of onions which I didn't like but easily came off. The chicken was cooked to perfection. My boyfriend had the bacon cheese burger (which I tried). The bacon was crispy and amazing!

Almost good guilty pleasure burgers, since 1952. And it's in the deep back of a parking lot that doesn't look like it has been dealt with since the 20th century, and in the back, just long grass and tumbleweeds. It's amazing the place stands, but the burgers (and great pie slices) are somewhat a Bay Area relic. Too much mayonnaise, it's like half the jar went on my burger (which is like a fatter In & Out burger and just as cheap), but you know what? Next time I'll say hold the mayo. Those squishy fries, some with burnt ends. That Java shake that tastes like Java gulp after gulp. More than almost. It's a good guilty pleasure. #cheapeats

It has been a long time I have been in a Nation's. This one looks as it's an older one than the ones I have been in. Service was good the staff was friendly to order my meal. Got the food and was hot and good. The hamburger was messy but good, the fries were a little over cooked but we're ok. The inside is small but clean. The music that was playing was nice until the phone rang and the music stopped and Agee the person got off the phone the music never came back on. I'm thinking there is a speaker by the phone and should not be there so the customers are not listening to nothing. Over all the burger was great and cooked.

Want a rockstar slice of pie? This is your joint. If you're like me and dig the salty with sweet -- get a side of fries with your pie and let the magic happen. :) Coconut creme, banana creme and the lesser known, but my all-star favorite, lemon meringue pie. All excellent in their own way -- light, fluffy and melt-in-your-mouth perfect! Lemon meringue comes as fluffy bliss on top (tastes like lightly roasted marshmallows cooked over a campfire) with a light lemon layer on a bed of delicious crust. No overpowering dense lemon flavor and not too sweet. Yum. I imagine this is what eating a lemon cumulus cloud would be like. Pies come in small and regular sizes -- their regular is more than enough to feed two people. Huge! Their fries come out hot and crisp on the outside, mealy on the inside. Their bacon burger is nothing to sneeze at either. Yum! No frills joint. Loving the old school signage outside, but not the vomit inducing bathroom inside. Be prepared to hold your pee while you eat, I did. But otherwise, solid spot to satisfy your pie cravings and feed your inner beast.

Really good banana cream & chocolate cream pie. I'm not sure why but the whip cream doesn't taste cold when taken straight out of the fridge.... But the pie is not too sweet & delish! Can't say much about anything else since I only wanted PIE!

We usually come here for the breakfast and pies. But this is also a great place for pretty juicy burgers if your craving a cheeseburger. The restaurant itself looks pretty dated...but in this case its necessary since there going for that old fashioned sorta thing. As for the breakfast its pretty straight forward. Eggs how you want them, sausage or bacon, hot cakes or toast. I believe they have three different sizes as well depending on your appetite. I really liked how you could watch them cook your food so you know for a fact its all fresh before it comes to you. In addition to the great breakfast and burgers, you could finish off your meal with pies. I've only tried the cheesecake and banana creme and both were very sweet and good. I also liked how you could get a smaller portion sized slice as well if your watching your weight. Overall prices are very cheap, breakfast served all day, and great burgers... cant ask for anything more.

Decent breakfast and burgers. The lines are long at this place on the weekend, so we decided to give it a try. The inside feels gritty, old and dirty, which is a big turn off for me. The food is decent though. Take out, next time, for me!

THE BEST BANANA CREAM PIE IN THE BAY AREA. Place itself is an untidy, dingy diner - you will not see me eating here, but it's THE go-to spot for amazing pies. It's nearly an equivalent to Marie Calendar's banana cream pie. Def worth it!

Cute diner style spot. I've been to nations a ton of times and probably have had most menu items from breakfast to burgers, but this review will be on my most recent visit. It was a weekday night and it was pretty empty with only a couple people in line so we were able to order quickly and get our food quickly as well. Service was friendly and patient. We dined in. This time I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and chili. Their grilled cheese is so delicious, the bread is buttered and crunchy, the cheese is melted ooey and gooey and it is topped off with mayo, lettuce, tomato and onion. The chili is so good! I put it on everything from fries to my sandwich! It's hearty with meat and beans and so flavorful and filling! We also ordered their seasonal blueberry pie which was AMAZING! Omgsh the pie crust was light and flakey, the blueberry filling was sweet and delicious and the blue berry cream on top was decorated in luscious waves of goodness. Our party of 4 devoured a large slice despite being so full from our meal. Nations is a spot I've been coming to for years and I am so coming back for more soon especially to get more of the blueberry pie before the season ends! Try it y'all!

The inside of this Nations could really use a revamping. It's like a throwback to the 80s. I haven't tried their burgers but their hotdogs and fries are good. Now their pies are delicious. My daughter tried their coconut creme pie in the which she just licked the frosting off and their portions are huge. I ordered a small slice which looked more like a quarter of the pie.

Did not know this place does Breakfast..momma still schooling me. Crazy fact: i ordered an omelet with veggies ...catch: the lady looked at me as if i asked for her first born.. Then checked the fridge & came back to tell me there out of Bell peppers... But they have onions & tomatoes..i'll take that. Bottom line this is a meat only spot..

Restaurant had a homeless dirty pee smell inside. We ordered 2 burgers and chilli cheese fries. Burgers were tasty, too much onions though making it taste bitter after a while i had to remove some big onions because it was overpowedering the taste. Chilli cheese fries had way too much cheese, but i guess its how its done.

The prices are cheap and its good food. Had to take away two stars for slow service and the fact the bathroom was really dirty, as well as some of the tables. But I did enjoy the wild alaskan salmon burger, wish it was on a white bun instead of wheat. Their pies here are ALWAYS a must! Got the chocolate creme pie SOOOO GOOOD.

Ah, Nation's! A childhood memory--an adult dream. Who doesn't dream about pie? If you don't, you're CRAZYYYY. Or I'm just crazy. Anyhow, I hadn't had a Nations Pie in over 7 years so when I realized there was one in Fremont, just miles away from my home, I had to go and get the chocolate creme pie. I had the chocolate creme pie almost once every half a year when I was younger and I lived close to a Nations in Albany. But, I recently relocated to SoCal and have been craving that amazing flaky crust and delicious cream for years! So when I went back for Thanksgiving, a Chocolate Creme Pie from Nations was on my list of must-haves. I walked in, and the restaurant was small. The line was almost out the door because it was a day before Thanksgiving and pies were literally flying out the door. So I get in line, buy my pie, and then walk over to the "pie station," where a nice lady was checking receipts and handing out pies. It seems like they had a really great system going for them. Every pie was sorted into it's own bin/category. The woman would just walk over and take one out of the stack. She showed it to me to ensure it was the correct pie, and I took it. So I went home, stuck it in the fridge and anxiously waited for thanksgiving morning where i totally had pie for breakfast. No regrets. It wasn't as fabulous and bomb as I remember it being (well, I was a kid so....) but it was still pretty damn tasty. Pie crust was the best part. Maybe a little TOO much whipped cream on top. But service at this Nations was excellent and the pie brought back memories from childhood. Now, to jog it all off..

Review based on pie ONLY: Banana. Cream. Pie. There's nothing else to really say.. I could probably eat half a pie without even knowing because of how good it is. With fresh banana chunks, creamy banana custard, fluffy whipped cream, and a flaky buttery crust, what could possibly be better?! I used to never really like pies until I've tried this and it has changed my views(or life) ever since. Definitely a must-try.

I tried their cheeseburgers and Banana Cream pie The Cheeseburger had a well cooked meat patty was flavorful and had a decent texture, not too overcooked. I'm surprised many people don't like their burgers as much, but to me they're great. However they are NOT consistent. I tried Nation's for a second time and my burger had too much onion and no tomato, which made the burger much more unpleasant. Don't expect the burgers to be amazing every time. As for their banana cream pie, it will always be great. They have banana custard inside the pie which is just to die forrrrr. You just really have to try it for yourself.

Me (politely): "Excuse me, may I have a cup? I ordered a drink. Employee behind the counter: "I'm too busy." Yep, that happened. I think this place has really gone down hill over the past years. I used to eat here all the time as a teenager and enjoyed my experience there. Grant it, the burger was good and came out pretty fast, hence the two stars. But the customer service is lacking. The only somewhat redeeming factor was an apology from the cashier. I know it's not a five star restaurant and shouldn't expect superb service, but damn, I thought that comment was really unprofessional and rude. The time it took the employee to say that, she could have reached down and grabbed a cup. Anyways...not sure I'll be going back to this location. Bummer.

Every time I come here they mess up our order. The person who took my order today forgot about the other food and drinks I ordered. I finally asked them what happened and one of the workers asked the cook to make the scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast. And I ordered a slice of banana cream pie but they gave me coconut cream. I didn't know until I took a bite and tasted coconut and realized there were no bananas. Today was the last straw. I noticed many other customers complaining today. I'm never going back to this place. And the food is mediocre. Don't believe the positive reviews. They are friends and families of the owner and workers there. Advice to management: have more than four workers during busy hours. The employees always look overwhelmed and exhausted when there are many customers. I'm hoping the female workers' age and lack of ability to fluently speak and understand the English language are not the reasons why they keep messing up the orders.

I want to give this place four stars, but I can't because the restaurant itself looks dirty. They need to remodel because everything is outdated. It looks like they don't even have a designated person to clean and maintain the place. I haven't tried their burgers or other food items but I've tried dessert. :) The banana cream pie is delicious. I'll always phone in my order so I don't have to spend so much time in there haha. Their blueberry cheesecake is also divine.

Every holiday I look forward to getting Nations pies!! They have the best pies in town. I remember when bakers square closed and I didn't know where I was going to get my holiday pies. Thank you Nations!!!!

I really wanted to like this place, but the patty was bland and the mayo too overwhelming. The air inside and outside the store smells really bad while you're waiting for your order, and it just overall wasn't a pleasant experience. The lemon meringue pie saved the meal from total disappointment, but even that wasn't good enough.

This place really disappointed me. I went in for a late dinner during the week and had the bacon cheeseburger and an order of chili cheese fries. The burger was poorly but together so the thing fell apart on my lap. The chili cheese fries were cold, and it was seriously just a pile of fries with chili and cheese squares put on top! Unmelted! I'll give this place one other chance! Their pies look to be on point!

Been living in the Bay way too long to have just recently tasted these burgers. I ordered a double cheeseburger and fries, as well as a strawberry tart. The cheeseburger was so amazingly juicy and delicious. The fries were decent too. The tart was yummy, although the crust was a little sweeter than I prefer. All in all, the food was good enough to go back. For all three items I paid around $18. The only reason why I didn't give a 4th star is because the place is old and smelled kinda dirty. Slightly, but still. Definitely getting food here again, but not to dine in.

This review is solely for their pies. But I'll input on some burgers too. Although I did not have a burger the portions looked HUGE for the price paid. It's McDonald prices for legit burgers up in here. The pie variety is legit and although they don't compare to Heidi's pies in San Mateo they were still pretty good. The apple pie and the double chocolate were pretty money even though it was overpoweringly sweet. Their slices are pretty generous for the price.

I recently moved to the Bay Area from Texas. I had never heard of Nation's and decided to give it a try. I was glad I did. The burgers are fantastic. When you compare them to burgers you get from other establishments in the same price range, Nation's is among the best. The pies are awesome. The breakfast was ok, not great but not bad. The interior is kind of low end. Not the best place in the world to sit and eat. I always do take out. Overall, this is my go-to for a burger in Fremont.

Hands down the best cheeseburgers in the bay. (cheese burger, grilled onions, cut in half) Every time I see Nation's I have to stop by. I've just started going to this Nation's since its near my work, no complaints yet.

I've been coming here for 2 1/2 years and I love it! It's so much better than Denny's or Ihop. I always get this home-cooked feeling every time I eat here. I've never gotten anything besides their breakfast, but it's so good. Perfect eggs, pancakes, hashbrowns, and bacon. I love banana cream pie, but I have yet to try theirs!!!!

Nations is our favorite local place for burgers and pie. The burgers and chicken sandwiches are always cooked to perfection. Grilled onions and green chili are a nice touch. The prices are super reasonable. Can't understand why people would pay twice as much to go to a place like The Counter. My only complaint is that the fries could be crispier The pies are homemade and they always have a great selection of berry pies. Really nice portions too. Definitely a hole in the wall - pretentious folks should go elsewhere.

Nation's Giant Hamburgers has a lot of potential. The hamburgers there are delicious and the portion size of them are huge! The milkshakes there are also delicious and compliment your hamburger meal! Last but not least, always remember to get pie after your meal since that's the best part! I definitely recommend Nation's Giant Hamburgers. Make sure to stop by here since I promise that you will not regret it.

Overpriced and musty as hell! The musty smell of the restaurant actually was in my flavorless burger. HORRIBLE FOOD! Never coming here again! Even my piece of pie sucked! And it cost me $17 for a burger fries and pie smh...

Why pre-order pies if they are not guaranteed upon pick up date? I preordered pies for our family Christmas gathering 1 week in advance. Upon arrival I was told by the manager that my preorder form was missed because he thought it was for Christmas Day. The 2 of 5 pies I ordered were no longer available because they were already sold that morning. The only thing he could do was say he was sorry! Sorry for NOT doing his job and guaranteeing customer satisfaction by making sure my preorder was taken off the shelf, boxed and ready for my scheduled pick up! Thank goodness there was another Nations, 10 miles away that did have the other 2 pies available on short notice! Thumbs Down to this Nation's!

Went last night... the cashier was talking about her Love life to another employee while we were in line ordering. They took forever to give me a piece of cheesecake. The food had no flavor and it was sloppy. A ton of onions and a little piece of lettuce. Terrible Burger. I watched them re-make an entire order from an earlier ticket. They're unorganized and unprofessional. I will not go back.

Very standard fast food joint that also has breakfast items and pies. I got a regular hamburger and it was really bland, greasy and smothered in mayo. I didn't even bother with it after a few bites. Not a fan at all.

Hometown favorite! I remember many a hung-over Sunday morning calling in a breakfast order! Breakfast is great! I had a bacon-cheese burger this time, I try not to be hung-over any more! The burger was juicy with tomatoes, lettuce, and raw onion. Awesome! They forgot my fries, they promptly gave me a credit when I brought it up. I was full from the burger anyways ... just as well! The place is small so don't count on always getting a place to sit.

As a 20+ year resident of Fremont, this is a place that ive been to a lot. They serve everything. They have great breakfast, great burgers, and great deserts. Why do i give it only three stars? The service. They are extremely busy, pretty much all the time, so that definitely hurts them. They have a small dining room, and you have to order at the register, rather than having someone take your order at a table. This can suck sometimes, especially when you first get there, you have someone save a table for you, then they have to yell their order to you at the register. They wouldnt even take our order when we sat at the bar area.. we still had to go to the register. I think if they worked on their order taking, i think this place would be awesome. Maybe order at the register, take a number, and someone brings your order to the table? Instead, they have you order, and stand to the side.. people pile up... it gets rough.

Location = 1 star (sketchy) Cleanliness = 1 1/2 stars (I prefer takeout) Service = 2 stars (hit or miss) Shakes = 3 stars (I like my strawberry without chunks) Breakfast = 3 stars (sometimes tastes like lunch since it's cooked on the same griddle) Burgers = 4 stars (tasty) Pies = 5 stars (taste and price, banana cream is the best)

This is the 3rd time I come between 30 mins - 15 mins before they closed and asked to take food to go because they are closing. Even though yelp clearly states they close at 11 and so does the sign on the door. I apologize you hate your job but is it our fault? I don't understand why they rush people out. Today they asked me to get my food to go even though half of the restaurant was full when I asked them if they where going to ask the rest of the customers to get the food to go so they can be rushed out the lady taking my order changed her attitude. What horrible service.

I came here for some Pie one night, I love their breakfasts and certain nations have that coke machine with 100+ combo's but this one has not been upgraded yet. I may have given them 4 stars however this location I had a craving for bananna or chocolate but ended up with coconut because they only had a few flavors available. The pricing was cool though, clean place. I would come back.

This place was great when I was a kid. Now it's dirty, has slow service, and mediocre food. Asked to have our table wiped down. Looked at us like they didn't know what that meant. We did it ourselves. Literally a 1/2 cup of mayo on chicken sandwich. Won't be back.

I came here specifically for their banana cream pie. I should learn from my mistake of not calling in when I'm looking for a specific item. Got to the counter and the lady said they ran out of almost every pie!! All they had left was pumpkin and apple pie... I was so sad I almost wanted to leave. I figured, though, I came all the way I may as well try the food out. I got a cheeseburger with pickles and grilled onions. The burger was juicy and pretty good. A good size too! I also had chili cheese fries, and these were just okay. I wasn't too wild about their fries and the chili was okay. A little bit salty this dish was. For dessert I ended up just ordering a strawberry shake, which was alright. Wasn't too impressed by this. Later on at night, my friend Stephanie L. surprised us with banana cream pie she had a friend get from another location! This pie was definitely not what I had hoped for. It had so much whipped cream on top and the banana flavor was barely there. I did like the crust, though. Overall disappointed with Nation's. I had high hopes. Definitely not the best banana cream pie I've ever had.

Good place for breakfast. I usually go for breakfast, as places like iHop and Denny's are usually super crowded, and this place has decent breakfast. I've taken it to go and I've eaten at the place, and both ways the service is ok and decently quick. I do like their big breakfast platters, that come with eggs, ham, sausage, and 2 toasts. Their toast are pretty good, but incase you don't like butter on your toast, you should tell them not to put it as they usually do! They have pretty good pies too. TLDR: Decent breakfast for 5-10 bucks.

I've been coming to Nations since I was little. I enjoy their breakfast and cheese cake. The place still looks the same as long as I can remember. Sometimes during the weekend they take longer than usual with your food but overall I always keep coming.

My first memory of this place was freshman or sophomore year of high school. We had a school carnival to help fun raise for the senior class' grad night. What did the bestie and I do? Oh right, we ran off to Nation's for the best stack of strawberry pancakes ever. Fast forward a few years later, I dragged my coworkers from the elementary school to another Nation's for a pie-team-bonding after work. I convinced my Portuguese roommate to come here with me for breakfast and pie. (We work out, what can I say??) A few nights ago, I came to this location yet again for some pie. My sister ended up getting the lemon meringue and I bought my mom a quarter slice of the coconut cream. They loved their pies. :) My favourite will always be their seasonal peaches and cream though! Oh, and cannot forget the shakes! YUM!

I've been to Nation's before for their pies (which are pretty delicious!), but tonight, I finally got to try their burgers. My boyfriend and I both ordered cheeseburgers (cause we heard that's what they're famous for) and a side of fries. These burgers are huge! I like that they give you two slices of cheese, plenty of lettuce, and the sauce was just enough. The burger was so tall that when I opened the wrapping, the burger tipped over. The cheeseburgers are pretty bomb! I don't really get why the bacon cheeseburgers are about $1.50 more. I hope they don't only give you two slices of bacon.. The fries - bleh, they were so bland! It's like they didn't even put salt on them at all. While we were eating dinner, we overheard some horrible customer service. A customer who already got his order went back and said that he was missing something, and instead of calmly answering him, the manager (pretty sure she was the manager..) rudely told him that they didn't make a mistake with his order. Talk about a mood killer.. When we finished dinner, we got in line again because I wanted to buy a pie. She was being rude again to other customers in front of us and her employees! We left without getting my banana cream pie.. sad day. But I'd really rather not have to deal with her.

After enduring a hard workout over the weekend, I figured I could treat myself to some gluttony: a good old fashioned burger. I knew where this Nation's was located and I had fond memories back in my past East San Jose days when I went to my neighborhood Nation's for breakfast or a burger with my family. Today, there are no longer any Nation's locations in the South Bay but thankfully, the East Bay has plenty of locations and this one is closest to my work. I'm glad to see that they still keep things relatively simple. They have burgers and pies. According to the menu, every burger is 3/4 lb before cooking...that's insane! And pricing wise, it wasn't very expensive either...less than $5 for a cheeseburger. So that got me to thinking...dare I get a slice of pie too? They usually have a bunch of regular selections but the one that I most fondly remember is the banana creme pie. Once again, all my warm and fuzzy food memories are flooding back into my noggin. Cheeseburger and slice of banana creme pie for lunch it is! The cheeseburger was very large without a doubt. They don't skimp on the meat or the lettuce, tomato, and onions that come with it. As a result, it does make it a bit difficult to eat but besides that, it was tasty. The pie was a nice sweet way to cleanse all of that greasy feelings away with the taste of sweet banana creme filling mixed with whipped cream. Salty and sweet in the same meal...perfect! The interior dining room won't win any awards as it has a very dated diner vibe going on here. However, that won't stop me from coming back here and getting another burger on maybe in the morning for an omelette or pancakes instead. A whole pie from them is only $12 and since I don't see a Marie Callender's nearby, this Nation's could be a future stop for me if I ever needed to bring something for a potluck function.

They used to be so good...Now it's "company policy" to overcook their burgers as I was told by an employee when I had asked that they not burn my burger. They will only do them well done. Overcooked, dry, crunchy and utterly gross.Until they learn that it's customer policy that we all don't like cremated burgers,I'll be going to All Star burgers in Newark.

This place is old. It's been around. It's so old, that my friend who is now retired, used to work here after he graduated high school. There's a large gap usually from when one graduates high school and when one retires. He told me this place is probably as old as I am. *gulp* Let's start this again: This place is seasoned. It's been around but it's tried and true. Burgers are their draw and I'd much rather get my fix here than say any chain fast food. They cook them to order and they're a good size maybe 1/3 lb? I just skip their sweet mayo and throw in a green chile, cuz it's the shit that way. Burgers are filling enough that I've never tasted a fry here. Breakfast is so-so. If I were hungover and needed a quick fix, then maybe, but I'd much rather have diner quality breakfast and get served. But that's me, cuz I'm seasoned like that. Sometimes on my lunch breaks, when I'm not too hungry, I may just chill here and have a slice of pie and a cup of black coffee (they have Peerless here, booyaa!). Banana Crème is my usual hit-up but their seasonal strawberry or peach ain't too shnabby either. I'll grab a paper from the corner, cross the legs and let time crawl. Cuz I'm seasoned like that, did I already mention?

THIS REVIEW IS SOLELY FOR THE STUPID NEW GIRL AT THE REGISTER....food is still 5 stars, but this woman is sooo stupid that she has compelled me to write a review on her pathetic attempt at working a job that any simple minded fool can function at. She could not get a simple phone order right, failed to ring my party's order up correctly, and took a ridiculously long time to figure out how to distribute our orders. On a second visit, this chick was also at the front register and she epically messed up my roomie's order. Please train your employees correctly or don't hire people who can't complete a simple task, because it is inconvenient to the rest of us customers.

Good diner menu. My husband loves their burgers. I always get their whole pies every once in a while. Their best one is the banana cream pie. I always order them in the holiday season for serving them to guests at my holiday parties.

I've been eating at Nation's for 25 years here at this location and the Old Newark location (now closed) I love that you can order breakfast any time of the day. The pies are always the freshest in town, and the burgers are "CRACKIN" . Nations has kept the same menu for the last 25 years with the exception of some new healthier and vegan options and I love that it tastes the same as it did when I was a kid.

I really enjoyed eating here. Myself and the girls came here after hiking mission peak. I had never been here before and they love this place. All I can say is it's greasy goodness. Cheesy and greasy goodness. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and I was so surprised by how huge they were. I mean, I know they're called "giant' burgers... but they are pretty big for a fast food joint. They were very very generous with the bacon. Like, i was expecting 3 strips, but it probably had about 5 crunchy ones. We also ordered chili cheese fries. I love how they put cheese slices as their cheese for the fries. It's different, but I like it. They're not stingy with their cheese or chili. Great. I'll come back here again. Especially if i'm craving a burger. This is definitely a "i'm feeling like a fatty" place.

I just took my mom here for breakfast the other day and before entering we we're debating on going to Denny's. But the line was moving smoothly, so we just ordered. About 7 min went by, we found our seat, they called our order number, and I picked up the meals. The food was great! I had the cheese, Sausage and Bacon omelette plate w/ a green tea. It was hot, ready, and delicious! My mother enjoyed her eggs and sourdough toast as well. BUT THEN, i ordered half a Banana Creme Pie! i've never in my life tasted a pie so good. And because the pie was so tasty, i decided to order 3 shirts. 2 for my parents and 1 for me. Thanks Nations for the great food and service!

Great service from the girl at the register, but this location was just disappointing. They ran out of all the creme pies! My roommate was so sad because we came here just so she can get some banana creme pie. I used to go to the Nation's in Daly City late night and they would still have everything in stock. I got the salmon burger here with grilled onions, it was good but not amazing. There was a little too much mayo, but a pretty good price for a salmon burger.. less than $6!

I love how this Nations has that old school feel to it. The service is ok and the food is fresh and hot. The location is a little small. I ordered the grilled cheese and fries. The employees are ok not super friendly but not rude. Pies are always on point.

Nation's is sadly not anywhere in the South Bay. This Fremont location is the closest for anyone from Palo Alto to San Jose. Other than that, the next closest would likely be Daly City... otherwise they are pretty much an East Bay/SF exclusive. The burgers are excellent. I would recommend not getting mayo on them. Nation's tends to add too much mayo and it doesn't add much to their already great burgers. Bacon is great here as well. My choice was a Bacon Hamburger, and it was nice to not be charged for cheese on it. Some places would have you pay for a bacon cheeseburger even if you didn't want the cheese... but not here. However the location is a bit hard to find... it's not very well lit and the directions to get here are not entirely clear. But if you're looking for a good burger, you can't go wrong here.

Alright haters, step aside. This place has some satisfying pie! Although Nations struggles to hold a reputation for good or "famous" burgers, the pies are where it's at. Don't waste your breath on the burgers or hot dogs, go straight for the Banana Creme Pie. You can expect a flaky crust, creamy filling, cubes of real banana, airy whip cream, and a sliced almond garnish. I sure make it sound like this slice of bliss Is from a $$$$ french fusion restaurant of some sort... Well, it's served on a standard white diner plate and it's a decent portion so it screams comfort food; it totally is. Leave your dessert fork at home, cuz we can't tell the difference from a salad fork here ;)

Who cares about the burgers when they have the best cheesecake in the Bay Area?

    (5)
  • Muneet S.

I always order their hamburgers or grilled chicken sandwich and I'm always satisfied afterwards. Their desserts always look so amazing as well and sometimes temptation blinds me and I have to give in and order one of their fries. The fact that they're always so fresh and delicious is a sort of positive reinforcement and I can't break out of that bad habit. The layout of this place kind of reminds me of Denny's because it has that old diner feel but I feel like some of the booths are awkward because there are only a few actual tables so if those are full you're stuck with sitting close to other people in the long booth things. As much as I like eating here and the fact that the prices for everything aren't that bad the food isn't really memorable or super special so I wouldn't drive out of my way to come here and grab a burger. Maybe for the pies though.

Some of the best burgers in the bay! I went here with my boyfriend after picking him up from Bart and we were in food heaven :) I've been here a couple of times and never left unhappy, or hungry for that matter. Their chili cheese fries are cooked to perfection along with their burgers. They are super generous with all their burger ingredients and give you HUGE portions. Do yourself a favor, GO TO NATIONS.

I had a great experience at this location. I ordered a bacon cheese burger with chili fries and a strawberry pie. The food is delicious and the pies are amazing. I received customer service from a young girl who looked like she was in high school, that girl provided better customer service than many adults out there. Excellent customer service, I am a very satisfied customer.

1 star for the java shake, 1 star for the cherry cheesecake, 1 star for the banana cream pie. The java shake, when prepared correctly, is like a slightly melted Haagen Daaz coffee ice cream that you can drink. The cherry cheesecake is the CREAMIEST cheesecake I have ever had...and I have definitely been around the cheesecake block. The banana cream pie is just chock full of sweet bananas, creamy filling, all on top of a butter crust. We have only come to Nation's for these three items and nothing else. Occasionally, if we are dining in, we may order some fries just for that savory and crunch factor to balance out the sweetness. I am merely giving this place 3 stars because service was never on-point or even acceptable here. They fail in operations when it comes to the process of placing an order and expediting it. I don't understand why it takes 15 minutes for me to get a slice of cheesecake when it's already been made. Service is always slow and the waitresses sometimes forgets about your order. We'll always return for our 3 aforementioned treats, but will always walk out shaking our heads in disbelief at how disjointed the service is behind the counter.

This was my first time trying Nations Burger. I have lived in Fremont for most of my life so I figured I would give it a try. Which I regret. Me and my wife both ordered a breakfast plate that should take no longer then 10 minutes to cook. I know because I work in a larger faster paced diner. We did not get our 2 plates until 30 minutes after we placed our order. Which is crazy for such a small place that can't fit more then 25 people in it. My wife's food didn't come out correctly but she ate it anyways considering we were so hungry due to the long wait time. When we finally finished both trashes we're overflowing and we had nowhere to put our dirty plates and trash so we were forced to leave it on our table. This place seems understaffed and unorganized. First and last time I will ever eat here.

CANT BELIEVE I FOUND THIS PLACE!!! Normally i would have to drive to Hayward for nations but i looked up food places near me and found it at about 10:45 at night. I was very happy. Its kind of hard to find its in the back of a lot.

Slowest service ever. The girl taking our order just seemed like she didn't care or want to be there. I ordered a regular slice of coconut creme pie, waited like 3 minutes for her to just walk over to grab it... and then she told me they didnt have anymore regular slices, only small. so i asked can't i have the small coconut and a small slice of something else? She said no. That's kind of bad customer service to me. I guess if she didn't seem to lag with my order or was more polite I would've not minded. so then i had her refund me the regular slice order and charge me for the small slice, which took foreverrrr. Just was not the best or a typical happy nation's experience.

When I was little, my dad use to take me here for breakfast before he took me to school on Friday mornings. So, Nation's always brings back good memories. If I recall, their breakfast was pretty tasty. So, when the hubby and I wanted a burger and wanted to go somewhere we don't usually go, we decided to come here. It's really not that big, but the place was pretty full. Apparently everyone had the same thought that Friday night. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. The hubster got a bacon cheeseburger, fries, and a strawberry shake. The burger was reallllly good. And so were the fries. Also, I had some of the milkshake, and I am glad I didn't get one....I would have drunken the whole thing! Everything was scrumptious. They make everything as you order it, and it tastes like it. Despite it being busy, we didn't wait very long for our food, either. I am definitely going to come here again when in the mood for a burger...or a milkshake....or pie.

Went back here several times before today with favorite yelper. But today merits an update. A different person was at the cash register. He was very kind, professional and has a great memory for remembering your order. Nice change! I also noticed that they changed their front door. Now you can open both doors! Yay! We're bad today. Really bad! We ordered the Hotdog with chile and topped with cheese! Cheese Burger with everything minus the onions and two huge slices of pie. One chocolate cream pie and one banana cream pie. The first time I tried their pies here 6 years ago I knew they're the best. Nothing's changed. Sill the best. Cashiers may come and go but their pies stays the best! OMG! We were full till about 4 pm. Like 4 hours after!

I came here because my relatives were craving for something sweet. We ordered a banana creme pie to take home with a side of hot fudge. The banana creme pie tasted good, but I would've enjoyed it more if there were more slices of fresh banana inside of the pie. The crust was perfectly baked, golden and flakey! The pie was filled with lots and lots of custard and whip creme to give it a really light taste. If you like chocolate, don't forget the hot fudge it makes it a whole lot better.

I was surprised to see this place here. Its not out in the open, very secluded. Today was my first time eating breakfast there. And i must say that i was very impressed! The food is so delicious. They give you plenty of food for a great price. Def going back soon!

fresh ingredients and food are coked to order, so you need patience to wait for your food. I ordered the cheese burger with grilled onions and grilled chilies. I had some fries that are crispy. I also had the custard pie slice for dessert. the pies, cheesecakes are excellent here. employees are working hard on Christmas Day. service is ok just needs extra effort and needs some organization. the hamburgers are huge here and freshly made.

This is now one of the closest Nation's locations to me! What can I say, I've always been a fan of Nation's Burgers. They use to have a South Bay location where I grew up in San Jose (Sierra Rd/Piedmont Rd), that was almost a once a week ritual for my family as I was growing up. It was a sad sad day when they closed that location. This Fremont location, although small, still stays true to what Nation's customers want! Which is great burgers and pies... I will admit, this location has always met my expectations and cured my cravings of the Giant Hamburgers! The thing that makes these burgers so great are that they are simple...it's back to the basic with Nation's, no frills. It is just a heavenly experience for those who love burgers, bacon, onions, miracle whip, tomatoes, and lettuce! My mouth waters just thinking about it!

I have to say, the only thing that knocked down my rating from four or even five stars was the funky condition of the place. I didn't expect much after seeing how funky it was, worn out, not very clean, funky what I can say. But holy cow the food was great. I got a breakfast for dinner with eggs over easy, hash browns and linguiça. It was absolutely perfect with the hash-browns being some of the best I have ever had, zero grease, very nice.

Worst Nation's I've been to. Closest to my house, though. Slow service, poorly cooked food, unappetizing interior - both in lighting and cleanliness.

Looking for a $5 burger that will satiate your inner food monster? Nations has what you're looking for. Came to this Nation's on a Wednesday night as part of our Rotaract Club's post-meeting social. This place seats a good 30 people without a problem; we had about 15 people and only took up half the venue. The service was mediocre but quick. I didn't feel any extra effort from the staff to be friendly (whereas at In and Out and some other chains, they're trained to be top notch with customer service), but it was a pretty juicy cheeseburger for just $5 plus one of the better shakes I've had (I got the java shake; definitely recommend that one). There are also so many delicious pies! I would definitely say the pies are worth having. Had some of the chocolate creme pie... delicious. I would recommend banana creme. nomnomnom goodness. All in all, the price is good and the food is filling, and it isn't crowded so this place is definitely on my list when I need a filling and cheap bite.

I'd say that in comparison to their Bob's Giant Burgers counterpart, I'd give a slight edge in overall quality to Bob's. Just slight! While the meat was cooked just right and the condiments and amounts of tomatoes and other vegetables were just right, the buns were soaking wet when I opened them up. But then again, I guess that's because I took mine to go and the heat made all that condensation and stuff...However, it didn't stop me from feeling satisfied after finishing the burger! Maybe I'll hold off on permanently judging Nations until I get a chance to eat in. Fries were average, slightly better than McDonald's but not Bob's nor In-n-Out. And I had no idea that they had pies! Must give them a try as well next time...

I'm from the South Bay and I could live and breathe Nation's. That's how much I love this place. Back in 1999-2000, Nation's was in the South Bay. - Off of Sierra Rd and Piedmont Rd where Piedmont Hills High is. However, I think the location was too off and far for anyone to notice or reach it so it (sadly) closed down. I call this place "The In & Out of the Bay" before In & Out made it to Gilroy. Anytime I'm near a Nation's in the East Bay, I stop everything I'm doing to get a burger at this meat haven. I have rules upon entering this establishment: 1.) Thou shall not be afraid of the Nation's burger. It is not afraid of you. Always add bacon. 2.) Thou shall not skimp on the milkshake. It is a must to your meal. 3.) Thou shall ask for the onions cooked/caramelized. It just tastes better. 4.) Thou shall love the honey mustard sauce. (I'm not even a real fan of the sauce!) It goes with everything. I've been to many Nation's locations and this one is by far the most quiet and cleanest. I guess it's because it's located behind a few buildings off of the main street so it's hard to see. I never have issues finding parking or getting my food fast and hot. I definitely will return over and over again! I dream in strips of bacon and cheese because of this place.

Good stuff, man. Not fancy, no frills. No kids menu here; just order your burger or hot dog or BLT or whatever and eat it. And it's goooooooood. Oh wait, do you like pie? Get it at Nation's.

Burgers? Pies? Diner experience? I'm in!! Great little restaurant hidden near the Fremont Hub shopping center. Food is always tasty, service is always friendly, but sometimes a little slower than expected. I'm still very happy to suggest this place as your stomach will be quite pleased! :-)

I went for take-out pie. Found out you can get 1/2 of one flavor & 1/2 of another for pie. I got 1/2 chocolate creme & 1/2 custard for $11 something. I charged it.

Before I was exposed to all of the fancy burgers that big cities had to offer, my favorite burger in the world was a Nation's Burger at their South SF, El Cerrito or Berkeley locations. I loved the big chunks of onions and the chili cheese fries. As a normally healthy-eating Asian, it blew my mind to have such an overindulgent meal. And I think Nation's introduced to me the beauty of the banana cream pie, which even to this day is one of my top five favorite desserts. Fast forward to the present, after feeling a bit jaded from all of the $20 kobe/truffle/brioche/whatever trendy new ingredient burgers out there. I was visiting my parents in the 'burbs when we found out through that there's a Nation's close to them in Fremont. We sped over there in the rain to see if it was as good as we remembered. The verdict? It's still amazing. The restaurant itself isn't much to look at - a weird barn-type structure set way back in a shopping plaza, so it's hard to see from the street. Once inside, it was much smaller and more cramped than the other locations I'd been to, but the menu looked the same, and that's all I cared about. I shared a bacon cheeseburger, chili cheese fries and a slice of banana cream pie with my family and it was a perfect amount. They also serve yummy looking breakfast dishes, but I had my eyes on the burger prize so I can't speak much to that. The service was very quick and friendly. I love watching the guys make everything right there behind the counter. I also forgot all the unique touches that make Nation's what it is, including the pump of BBQ sauce, something you rarely find anywhere else. They still have those huge onions in the burger which in my opinion is their greatest secret ingredient. The slice of pie was huge, piled on with whipped cream, and still the perfect blend of banana-ness and sweetness and crustiness that I remember. YUM is all I have to say!

Nation's, Nation's, Nation's. You're a guilty pleasure haven for burgers, pies, and brunch. I think I look forward to your breakfast items on the weekends. New motivation to learn how to make proper french toast. It's just so good! And compared to the Pancake House down the street, you're a lot more affordable. Recent finds: - You can ask for less mayo on your burger - Pickles just taste better - There's a java shake that's bound to get you on a sugar rush - Berry pie is too sweet - They now have calorie counts on each food item

This place is awesome! If you're looking for a small, little old school eatery that makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. This is it. Delicious, simple comfort food cooked on a old school griddle. Some people have complained about the service, but honestly it's a small little establishment, so don't expect no 5 star customer service. Either way, I don't care. I keep coming back here for the best, loaded grilled cheese sandwich in town, and the pies are to die for. Whipped, sugary goodness. Yes!

This place should be called 5 girls and a burger. Except for the 1 guy who taking orders, everyone else working here were girls which was cool. Not much to look at, looks like an old diner which is fine with me. Wish they would keep the tables a little cleaner though. Did not clean it after I asked the guy which was a little annoying. The burger was huge, juicy and messy and just the way I like it. Need like 5 napkins before I finished. Apparently they are famous for their pies which I did not get to try on this trip, perhaps the next time.

I remember coming here occasionally on long lunches with MC in high school. We used to get the worstttt cravings for these burgers! Sooo delicious. I love how fresh everything tastes. Yes, it takes awhile to make, but it's so worth it. Burgers are delicious, pies are nommy, and milkshakes... oh my goodness. Yum. I have never tried their breakfasts, but they always look so good when being made. The burgers are so huge&filling. I'll be good for at least 6 hours after a burger from Nation's. Wish it wasn't so hidden - took us a few tries to find it, but it's all good. Wish they were open 24 hours... but I guess Fremont's pretty dead at night, so there's no point really..

Came here on a Sunday for lunch. The line was incredibly long and chaotic. The setup of the restaurant is a little funny with seating on both sides of the line. Obviously this place has been around for quite some time so its not particularly beautiful furnishing. Took us about 10 min to be helped even though we were second in line. The employees were running back and forth preparing orders. Upon being helped I decided to try the Bacon Cheeseburger and honestly I think a 4x4 at In&Out is tastier... But that's just me. Half the burger consist of the gigantic ring of onions that they use. Overall I would say the food is a solid 3.5/5 stars but the service is a 2.5-3/5.

This is my go-to spot when I'm in need of a REAL burger! Sure, some of that fancy, trendy burger joints are good to try every now and then, but when you need just a simple, juicy, delicious burger, this is the place! IMHO, Nations beats out Five Guys AND In & Out! They also have awesome pies that you can order by the slice or as a whole. The breakfast menu is also served all day and is a good alternative if you want something other than a burger.

Came here last night for after dinner desserts. We got a strawberry milkshake and a vanilla one. Both were delicious and super thick! Haven't tried their food but will definitely come back during dinner time to try it in the future! Seems very clean and well run, the building seems a little old but that's okay, just contributes to the feel of it all!

This place is horrible everytime I go I get horrible service I always think its just that time and give them another chance but its repeatedly bad customer service..today I ordered over the phone and they put me on hold forever and when I picked up my food and got home they messed up my order I was so furious cuz this isn't the first time definitely won't be going back anymore..I'm giving a one star cuz of da food..its decent.

On two separate occasions I have found hair in my food and dessert. I literally gagged and threw up pie and blond hair strands out of my mouth and throat, so disgusting. I have banned my husband from getting food from there ever again, and would rather drive to the Hayward location.

Back in high school, we were craving dessert and the restaurants in the hub were all packed. We decided to try this place out and fell in love with their pies. I highly recommend their pumpkin, banana creme and my favorite is their lemon meringue. I have heard through family members that their pecan is also a favorite. In the last five years, my husband took me back to try their grilled cheese. Let's just say this has to be the best grilled cheese sandwich I've ever had. Hard one to top. The place is kind of dirty, old fashioned and the customer service is definitely not friendly. The food keeps ups going back.

I've been a Bay Area local for a few years now and keep hearing about the fabulous Nation's hamburgers, so I thought I'd give it a try. First off, I am a little biased because In-N-Out is my absolute fave when it comes to burgers done right. That said, Nation's delivered a larger burger that was tasty just the same. I ordered a regular hamburger, an order of chili cheese fries, and a slice of cheesecake. I don't normally order cheesecake, but I figured this place is apparently known specifically for their cakes and pies, so why not? Chili cheese fries were nothing special- I might have been able to make them better myself, but they were still good. My main complaint is that they came sans onions, which is a definite no when it comes to chili on anything. The cheesecake was decent- again, nothing special, and there was a hint of lemon, which I wasn't expecting. Not terrible, just unexpected. I may come back here again, in the event that In-N-Out should become drab and boring.

This place has gone downhill in the last 5-10 years. My family used to love coming here almost every week for dinner and then bring a pie home. The food: way to greasy and way too much mayonnaise. Before they would never put 1/4 cup of mayonnaise on my grilled cheese. Now every time I come here I have a HUGE amount of mayonnaise on my grilled cheese. Nasty! I literally have to scrape it off onto my plate. The cheesecake was also better before. I really don't understand what happened... I still somewhat like this place, but it just isn't the same.

Great place for breakfast or a burger, fries and coke lunch. All the food is cooked to order and comes out hot. Burgers are bigger than In n' Out, not flattened out like Five Guys, and not as expensive as the six dollar burgers at Carl's Jr. Oh and they are better than Carl's Jr.

This was the first Nation's I ever went to and I loved this establishment since. Eating here is a simple affair, but a delicious one too. The burger aren't top notch, but you always know what to expect. The pies are heavenly with an appropriate amount of cream on top. They look presentable and beautiful. I would never hesitate on bringing one to a party. Food here is just consistent, satisfying, unpretentious, and deserving.

I've never had a meal here before, but I do always order their pie! The banana creme pie is SO good. Not too sweet, not too bland, not too banana-ey. It's sooo good. I also really like their pumpkin pie! One slice is huge, and the crust is amazing.

    (3)
  • Adrienne L.

Burgers aren't anything special compared to what's out there, decent size though. Thin pattie, unevenly distributed lettuce, and too much mayo. Get your onions grilled! I like their shakes though they're not really that thick (to be called thick shakes).

So far I have been to two Nation's location. The one in Alameda and Fremont. Sunday I was in the mood for a breakfast even though it was already close to noon. Hubby suggested Nation's and we were good to go. It was busy. Lots of people having breakfast and lunch. Hubby ordered a cheeseburger meal for himself and giant three-egger with toast & hash browns for the kids and I. Hubby's cheeseburger was yummy. Kids & I enjoyed the breakfast. Before we hubby bought a slice of cheesecake topped with cherry glaze for me and a slice of pumpkin pie topped with whip cream for the kids. 2 thumbs up for the cheesecake and pie. We will definitely be back for breakfast!

eh, not sure about this place. Choc cream pie is what I came for. It is ok. Tastes just like the one you can get at Safeway's bakery section. Not bad, just not amazing. And something about the whipped cream was weird, it was a tad 'chewy' which made me think there tons of gums/fillers, would have preferred real whipped cream. Have not tried other food, and not sure I would. It was a bit like a depressing, slightly run down fast food diner type place.

My heart-family and I went to Nations to try their hamburgers. It was my first time to visit them. The parking lot was ample enough but noticed that there were homeless-looking people hanging out around it. (People pushing carts with their belongings, that is) Anyways, I was not the type of person who would be turning around and not go in the restaurant just because of the outside scenery. We all went in and there were a couple of customers in line and a couple of tables filled with diners. The place had the combination smell of pies and burgers. The dining tables would run out, meaning there were quite a handful of customers on a weekend. It was a small diner. We had our turn at the cashier and placed our orders. We didn't get their pies, but I did try their chili. It was all okay for me, not that great. I was not happy with the burger buns by the way, because they were too crumbly after a couple of bites and became soggy right away. I preferred a real hamburger bun with real bread flour in them and not toasted air and crumbs. It would've been a real nice burger if their buns didn't get mashed up. Their chili was decent but it could use a bit more spice. Overall, I wouldn't go here because Five Guys Burgers is just another exit away off the freeway. I'd rather have Five Guys.

I guess we just had to figure out the trick. CALL AHEAD! You can call in your order! Lets see Denny's do that! I ask for the one egger with ham - as does my coworker. Ten minute later I walk across the street. I hand them money. They hand me food. The hard part is picking which jelly packets you want.

Good food, good price, and accepts credit cards (5), but for some reason it took a very long time to get my order yesterday (-1). Also the restroom is out of order?! (-1)? I really like to wash my hands before I eat. =( So 3 stars.

  • Tanusree M.

The pies are delicious! But everything else is iffy. I've had breakfast here where some of the items on the plate were cold. I have also had their burgers which aren't that great either. They add waaay too much mayo and I think my burger had half of a head of lettuce in it along with half a tomato and onion... so they gave the illusion of the burger being 'giant', but it wasn't that great. The pies are a whole different story; coconut cream and peaches & cream are yummy.

    (4)
  • Thanh N.

Their Banana cream pies are the best! Service isn't quick, but I still come by for their pies. Their staff isn't that great. I usually order a burger with a slice of pie and sometimes eat in. Most of the time, my order will come up and it'll just sit there. I'd say 1/3 times I would not know that my order was done unless I was actually watching for it.

  • Cassie C.

Had a cheeseburger, probably should've had a slice of pie instead. The onion in the burger was thickly sliced and completely raw, and the meat was on the dry side. A pretty average burger, but I also came at 10pm (they close at 11pm), so hopefully it was just a one-time experience. I'm not usually one to care about the atmosphere of a restaurant, but the inside of this diner was slightly depressing and drab. A little disappointing considering the outside looks reminiscent of something you'd see at the carnival or the fair.

PROS: - z0mg huge burgers! Huge & cheapie burgers! - and PIES! i didn't try the pies but theyre pretty fatty. - yes they grill onions - and they have chili cheese fries. CONS: - Across the Fremont Hub, a bit hidden from the main road. Not easy to see, unless you turn in for the Original Pancake House - Small place

Ghetto outside, ghetto inside. Lady doesn't use gloves to cook and yet loves to rub her hands on my buns and meat as well as scratch her head, touch the cash register, and probably high-five the cook. At least it's cheap and tastes good.

This place is super cute inside, the food is pretty good (a little messy) and not a bad price. The only thing is it takes a while to get your food. If you are on a time crunch because of work its proly not the best place to go. But if you have some time to kill and want a great burger this is your place.

    (4)
  • James A.

I LIED I LIED. Just went here recently and the pie is TO DIE FOR. Or maybe I just have never had good pie..... But lets just say I have. Had two big slices of two different pies. Started out with one but that did not work out really well. My body was crying for another piece and if I didnt get another my body would have not let me walk out there in one piece. Mindblown? So am I.

Hype never goes well for me. I heard this place serves delicious burgers and delicious pies. It's supposed to be dinner-ish but no, no it was not. Price - Cheap for what it is, pies are pretty cheap too. Event - Chillin with my home boys Appearance - Super dirty inside and outside. Surrounded by other dirty stores. Not good, not good. Service - Was there any service? No, its self service. Taste - First of all, the burger is not giant. It's like this little burger is trying to be In and out by it just can't achieve it. The patty was small while the buns were also small. The giant aspect comes from the stacking of veggies. Lettuce and tomatoes were spilling amuck. Gross, gross. The burger was overcooked definitely not juicy. I was too excited for the pie since desserts are my thing. No, just no... I got a quarter pecan pie and it was overly sweet. Coming from King of Sweets, that's just WRONG. It was nothing to write home about. I've had better. Overall - Stick to the known, in and out or if you're in the mood for a higher priced burgers red robins. Long waits, price was not worth for what we got and if you ain't got no pie near you this can be your go to place for cheap pies. By the way, it's super small so don't come during rush hours.

I love Nation's Giant Hamburgers as much as the next Nor Cal Gal but this one should be dethroned, expelled, taken over by corporate, something. This place used to be the best. I didn't mind that it has never been remodeled, that the location was kinda ugly, or that they never answer their phone to place an order because their service and food used to be good and I was in LOVE with Nation's. There is nothing like Nations breakfast on a Sunday morning EXCEPT when you have a series of horrible experiences. But that is enough. I am breaking the cycle of abuse. It ends today no more chances for Fremont Nations. Here are two of the most recent examples of my heartbreak: Heartbreak # 1 We placed a breakfast order around noon (don't judge) and sat down. After over 20 minutes of waiting we went to check on the status and the server was rather rude and said they were busy. So we waited and asked again. It was then that the server lady realized they had lost our order. She began to make it and did so slowly and incorrectly. Now almost 40 minutes since we had placed our order we opted to leave. We explained our frustration and did not even get an apology. When we asked for our money back it was like pulling teeth. They then proceeded to short change us and took dozens of calculations and way too long to give us the correct change. Really? Heartbreak #2: We call ahead a pick-up order. BUSY! BUSY! BUSY Signal! Finally we get someone and place an order. When we get there our food is almost ready (even though we gave them extra time). When we finally got our food it was served with a side of major attitude! Seriously, the servers here were awful. I don't know if they are short staffed or what but there is always a line, the tables were filthy, and the servers are mean. Even when someone came to "clean" the table they just took away the dishes not even bothering to wipe off the filth. Does short order cook mean you have to be just plain short? No! After having to fight for our food, clean our own table, and not use half the silver wear because it looked unwashed I was done. No more Fremont Nation's for me. We are breaking up until they learn how to provide quality customer service, staff appropriate numbers of servers for the demand, and clean up!

Burgers: 3 stars Pies: 5 stars The burgers here are decent but pretty greasy I must say. I think a McDonalds burger is healthier? haha idk Pies: holy moly. I've only gotten the Chocolate Cream Pie and the Banana Cream Pie because they are both just divine. I never want to try a new pie because I just absolutely love the ChocoCreamPie. If i can't decide between chocolate and banana, i'd get the chocolate and just slice up some bananas at home. YUMM. The pies stay good for a pretty decent amount of time. However, the whip cream on top does start to get a little hard after a week. Still yummy, but not so soft anymore. I would just come back for the pies. Still haven't tried their breakfast yet and I dont think I really plan to when theres a few good breakfast places around the area anyway. (Country Way & Cabrillo Park Cafe)

This place is a little hard to find, but I like how many parking spaces there are! I got the chili cheese dog w/ fries and a drink and it came out to be a little over 8 bucks, not bad. The hot dog itself was pretty goood. I dont usually eat chili dogs but the one I ate was pretty good =]. I wanted to try their pie but I was already way too full to even attempt a 1/4 pie slice.

We came here for dessert. I preferred the coconut creme pie over the chocolate creme pie. The service sucked though. The cashier got the order wrong, blamed us and made us pay the difference of his mistake. We didn't want to get in a fight over 20 cents, but it was lame to be in that situation.

I used to get my late night munchies at this place, A good ol' american burger and a liter of cola and a slice of pie you cant beat that hehe. The only thing I dont like is thats its tucked in and the parking is dark and sometimes looks like no one is there. But its a good joint to go to.

Fast and Friendly! Came here for breakfast this morning and it was not busy at all. I was greeted by "Elbert" and he took my order promptly and with a great attitude. I cant tell you fast we got our food. After we paid, my wife sat down and I went to get our drinks, ketchup, Tabasco, napkins, grape jelly and right when I sat down, our number was called. It had to have been less than 5 minutes. I did see the cook make our order as I was ordering so she was on top of it. The food came out hot and fresh. Their pan cakes are delicious and you cant really go wrong with a Two Egg-er breakfast with sausage and sourdough. They kinda skimped on the hash browns but its OK, because everything else was awesome.

The burgers here aren't quite as good, but I still like this Nation's a bit more than the one in Oakland. Wimpy tried to tag along when my wife and I went here last time, but I made his broke-ass stay at home. Anyway, our food came out to $25.52, but this bought us 2 bacon cheeseburgers, 2 orders of fries, a hot dog, and 2 slices of chocolate creme pie. At Val's, you would have to pay $28 for just the first few items (spending that much and not getting any pie would make me want to cry). Burgers (Hamburger- $3.85; Cheeseburger- $4.45; Bacon Cheeseburger- $5.95): 8.5/10. Pretty good, but rather greasy. The burgers are also mainly "giant" because they come with a lot of onions and lettuce. Still, the patties are fairly large, and I also like that the bacon isn't too fatty or greasy. The cheese is quite good, and the buns used at Nation's are always solid. Not the best burgers around (when I first went here, my hot dog was better than my burger), but they're cooked well (I don't even have to ask for mine well done). I ask for mayo and ketchup even though my burgers might be drenched with them (when I first went here, they oozed out of my burger, bringing the Exxon Valdez oil spill to mind). To be fair, the next time I went here, there were no oil spills to deal with, and there was more grease in the movie than on my food. Hot Dogs ($2.50): 8.5/10. Better than the ones at the Oakland location. The buns are toasty, but not too crunchy, and the hot dogs are nicely grilled. Kasper's hot dogs are slightly better, but I like the ones here more than the ones at Top Dog. The hot dogs come plain, but you can probably ask for some toppings (like my burgers, I only want mayo and ketchup on my hot dogs). French Fries ($1.70): 8/10. Not awesome, but somewhat flavorful (of course, adding some salt helps). They're also nice and hot, and you receive a fair portion. Banana Creme Pie (Slice- $3.75): 8.5/10. I don't really like bananas, but I can see why the banana creme pies here are so popular (my wife found the bananas to be too ripe for her taste, but she still ate a whole slice). Chocolate Creme Pie (Slice- $3.75): 9/10. When I first went here, I sounded like a fool when I asked for a slice of Boston cream pie (it's not served here). Anyway, my wife and I enjoyed the slice of this pie that we shared (it was very creamy and light and delicious), and I'm definitely going to order another one next time. Strawberry Tart ($4.80 last year, but I think they're now a little over $5): 9/10. Sweet and simple. About 8 huge strawberries on top of a pie crust. The glazed strawberries are good and juicy, and the crust isn't too hard or flaky. The tarts are a bit pricey, but they're worth it, partly because they can feed 2. Regular sodas are $1.75 each. You can also order chili dogs and chili cheese fries here. Shakes are sold too, and there are about 7 breakfast meals on the menu. +Great hours: Sun-Thur 6 a.m.-11 p.m.; Fri & Sat 6 a.m.-1 a.m. +On the outside, this Nation's looks like a nice little cottage (you almost expect to see some gnomes come out). On the inside, there's a more modern look, and the tables and chairs are nice. +About 40 people can eat inside, and about 15 outside. +The employees are friendly and fairly capable. +The breakfast meals are reasonably priced (ex: $6.25 for a Giant Two-Egger). Unless you're anorexic, most of them aren't really "giant," though (the Giant Two-Egger features 2 eggs with hash browns, toast, and your choice of meat). I'm glad that linguiça is served here (it's too fatty to eat all the time, but it's nice to have once in awhile). +I've heard that the coffee here is good. +The menu is very large and easy to read (it's divided up into 3 parts, and there's also a sign indicating what the pie selections are). +The restrooms are easy to find (the ones at the Oakland location are in the back somewhere). +There are over 15 types of pies to choose from (this includes tarts and cheesecakes). Most slices are between $2.55-$4.50. A whole pie costs between $9.95-$14.50. +/-The restaurant is tucked away as if it's a member of witness protection. On the plus side, there's ample parking (the parking situation for the rest of the shopping center is abysmal). +/-Everything but the pies is made on the spot, so expect to be waiting 7 or more minutes for your food. Even if you phone your order in (many customers do this), you might be waiting for a few minutes. -The prices here have gone up in the past year (ex: a slice of Banana Creme Pie used to be $3.25). -There's more room here than at the Oakland location, but the seating areas are a bit cramped. -Some customers have experienced bad service (when we first went here, my wife didn't receive the iced tea she ordered), or have had issues with the cleanliness of the restaurant. Go here for the burgers, hot dogs, and pies. "It's got to be Nation's..." youtube.com/watch?v=uvNp…

FOOD IS GOOD BUT JUSTIN sucks for taking phone orders. He said food will be ready in 10 minutes, and I've been waiting for 30.

Alright, looking beyond it's set back location, decrepit exterior, chasing light bulb sign where every 3rd bulb is burnt out and the ugly interior ...Nation's still has THE best burgers, ever!! How can I look past all of those negatives and still say that they're the best? Yes, I cringe when I approach the parking lot and when I walk inside but, when I get my huge, juicy burger...nothing else matters! Maybe it's because I've experienced/eaten worse...not naming names but it's in Hayward and starts with a "V" and ends with "L's." :X They're breakfast is awesome and cheap too! Love them pancakes!! Service...ehh, can't expect too much. But, they've never, ever effed up my Bacon Cheeseburger with no tomato and extra grilled onions!!! :D I've eaten at Nation's since I was a little tyke growing up in the other side of the East Bay and I'm not about to quit!

I love this place. we used to go out here all the time for breakfast and coach used to take us here on saturdays to get food before our saturday night games. the extra giant breakfast, with longanisa, overeasy eggs, wheat toast, coffee, and even french toast, finish it off with chocolate creme pie. just amazing. you gotta love quality food made on a griddle with manufacturing line efficiency. ive been here for late night dinner too sometimes, and the burgers and chili cheese fries are great too. just a good place to get a quality meal thats wwwaaayy better than dennys

I've always been a fan of Nation's, ever since my brother started taking me to the one located in Daly City. I basically grew up on their awesome burgers and delicious pies. As I moved around the Bay Area, I was glad that there were other Nation's locations where I could get my fill. This particular Nation's was a little strange, since it's hidden WAY in the back of a parking lot. However, there is plenty of parking and it's in a fairly quiet area, so you'll never have to worry about beating any crowds. Also, they serve the same great food here as with other Nation's restaurants. The restaurant itself is kind of small, and can get pretty packed during the weekend mornings. Being that I've been going to Nation's since I was a kid, ironically it wasn't until I started going to this Fremont restaurant that I tried their breakfast plates for the first time. It turns out they serve some of the best breakfast I've had from a diner-type restaurant! Aside from the breakfasts and burgers, they have some great tasting pies here. I personally like their cheesecake and chocolate cream pies. Every pie I've ordered from here has been SO tasty, and freshly made no less. I think these are the perfect way to top off your meals here.

Burgers are big and juicy. People can complain all they want about grease. You want a burger that's not so greasy? This is definitely not the place. This is your typical old school diner type place (although Nation's is a chain). Breakfast is awesome. Their portions are great. Pancakes are big and fluffy. PIE! They have a variety of pies for sale either by the slice or as a whole. The cheesecake is very good.

I had read the reviews on Yelp about this place, and a couple of my friends and I went to go try this place out for lunch. Let me say that it was probably one of the worst eating experiences that I've had. I ordered French toast with a side of hashbrowns, and a chocolate cream pie. After I paid, the lady basically put me aside so she could refill the ketchup dispenser, so she made me wait a good 5 minutes for my change. Service was slow, it took about 10 minutes for me to be served, and the lady that was serving my food was handling it with her BARE HANDS, no gloves, nothing. The hashbrowns were probably the best part of the meal, but it was given in such a small portion that it filled about a quarter of the plate that it was served in. I wouldn't go crazy over them though, you could have hashbrowns that taste almost exactly the same at IHOP or Denny's. The french toast was extremely dry, and nasty. It was probably the worst french toast i've ever had. I only ate it because I didn't want to feel like I got gipped 5 dollars. My friends that ate burgers said that they were extremely greasy, and the taste was not good. I've heard great things about the pie here, so I decided to go try a chocolate cream pie for myself. I took a bite out of it, and it was disgusting. The chocolate was extremely bitter, and the crust was soggy. Overall, I would never come back to this place again, and I do not recommend eating here.

I had not literally set foot in a Nation's for years back in my college days. Since we had just taken in a huge amount of Filipino food it was of course the proper thing to do and fill in the cracks with pie for dessert. I was actually one of two people who went with the Filipino dessert so this review is for the reaction of some of the others and the ambiance of the place. Sooj and Steph plowed their banana creme pie heartily but Guri was having issues with his Pecan. I Believe he said we wanted "pumpkin" but for some reason "pecan" came out of his mouth instead. It was deemed way too sugary and then Sooj dropped the bomb that it was basically just pecans sitting on a pile of corn syrup, then crust. Yikes! It's a corn syrup pie topped with nuts! I gotta admit this place is pretty cheap as you can get burgers for under $4 which seems no different from back in the day. However this is what draws the "interesting crowds". Chock full of senior citizens, little kids, and riff raff abound. The most amusing thing I got to see was a guy who pulled up in his Lexus with these huge 22" chrome rims. These things were so huge-mungous his car was lifted. He could barely turn because the wheels would scrape the wheel well. He even had 22" written on the side of his car. Looking in the window brought me witness to the gnarliest group of folks I'd seen in a while. So this place really isn't about the cuisine, it's about the people watching :)

Nation's. Home of the Giant Breakfast, that I can get as dinner at 8:30 p.m. Nation's. Home of my favorite banana cream pie, that always has an unfortunate amount of whipped cream on top. Nation's. Home to 300lb ladies and mullets, the two things I see immediately when I walk through the doors. Seriously, who still has a mullet?!

ordered : 1 fries, 2 cheeseburgers with everything on it the fries were good. i liked it the burger was HUGE. there was a lot of onions and 3 slices of tomatoes as i was eating it i didn't feel good because there was TOO MUCH onions. :( i had to take most of it out...more like all of them out because it hurt so much. the burger had a lot of mayo too. i guess it was for the dry patty at the end. i prefer in-n-out

We came here for breakfast before going to the Fremont Festival of the Arts today. It is located near the festival. I got a bowl of Chili and my wife got a Nation,s regular breakfast. The chili tasted salty when I tasted it - I tried to eat it but it was rather hard when all I could taste was salt. My wife's bacon was thin and greasy and they had smothered her toast with too much butter. Coffee was rather bland, also. Prices were reasonable, but the food was not the greatest - quality was just not there today. The facilities were not in the greatest of shape - it still looked like they needed to do some remodeling, or at least some repair work. I know the staff tried hard; however, with only three people working today, it was hard to keep-up with the amount of customers.

I went to this nations the other day Almost a bad idea. So I walk in and it is so mess inside. They had not cleaned the piled up trash on the trash can. Nor did they clean up the dishes on the tables. They took forever on my order. Way too long for the amount of people who were in there. When my order was finally done they didn't even make my milkshake yet. So I had to wait even longer to get my stuff. The guy back there was really clueless. The woman cooking looked like she didn't care about being there. My theory is if you don't like your job quit and she clearly should have quit a long time ago. The burger wasn't bad. The location itself looks horrible and needs to be remodeled and needs to have a better sign that it is there. It is too far in the back.. I think I will try it one more time and if I have bad service again I wont go back.

Nation's Giant Hamburgers & Great Pies is a rather hidden diner in the Centerville district and let's be frank, the seemingly rundown place does not seem all that appealing from the outside or even, the inside. Upon entering, the diner definitely seems aged and most of the tables are seldom clean. I shook that repulsion off and welcomed the food with an open mind. I was pleasantly surprised and had a rather excellent first impression of this place, but over time, my opinion of the joint fell to a reduced and more deserving rating after several visits to the spot. The diner has one of the most exceptional sandwiches (the Alaskan Salmon sandwich) and carry some of the most delicious, uber-fattening pies known to man. And of course, some very delicious cheesecakes. But sadly, the breakfast standards are horrendous. Grilled cheese sandwiches with onions, undercooked hash browns, stale bacon, and rather sour pancakes. I plan to stick with the burgers and pies. Apart from the food itself, customer service is key. For the most part, the staff is relatively unfriendly with the exception of one member. On top of that, my biggest pet peeve has been on display a few times at this place -- the server's lack of understanding of the words: "No onions, please." This was not just a one time occurrence, it occurred thrice. Poor service hurts the experience of the meal.

Tucked away from the view, my fiancée and I decided to try Nations Burger out since we heard lots of buzz about it. Sadly, we have down to the conclusion that our friends make better burgers at their BBQs. Our burgers, while certainly huge, we filled with more lettuce than patties. It appears that onions were also a very popular additive as there was way too much of that too. Finally, it appears that Nations has not perfected the art of ensuring the burger remains in one piece throughout the whole time... Mine fell apart into my third bite. Overall - not too shabby; better than the average fast-food joint but... nothing spectacular either.

In the unhealthy fast food realm, this is probably one of the tastier ones. The burgers are big, greasy & overloaded with mayonnaise. Everyone who has been here regularly will tell you that the best thing are their PIES... every single kind. I've had the banana cream and chocolate cream and they are both to die for! You'll like the banana cream pie even if you despise bananas. Some people might argue that the chocolate cream pie is just chocolate pudding in a crust but anyone who says that has probably neither had chocolate pudding nor good chocolate cream. You can get it in a small slice, regular slice (which is actually a quarter of a pie) or a whole pie. Small slices are $2.25 and they'll definitely put you over the top, especially if you've had one of their gigantic burgers. This isn't a place I'd always go to... probably when I'm having a craving for grease or if I'm going to a potluck and need a pie ($10).

*Disappointing* I usually go to the Nation's in Berkeley, CA but when I found out there was a Nation's in fremont (closer to my home town) I got all excited. Being a college student and all, its natural to work up an appetite of the foods that are SO BAD for one's health but SO GOOD at the same time. Therefore, I don't recommend go to Nation's more than once a month or so. Anyways, the atmosphere of this Nation's restaurant totally kills it for me. Its gross. The style is old fashioned (its a diner of course), but not in a cool way. Its out dated and dirty. No matter how hungry you are for a big juicy burger, you'll probably lose your appetite just looking around the place. -"Dislike button."

Have to say, not a huge fan of their burgers (shocking, considering this is a BURGER place). HOWEVER, Their grilled cheese is better than mom used to make. I LOVE THEM. Get a grilled cheese and a slice of pie and its definitely a good day for me.

CAUTION: This place is not for the faint of heart. Heaven better have a Nations Giant Hamburgers in it. I totally am in love with this place. Giant Hamburgers is right! lots of meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon and MAYO! They have one on the way to my friends house in Sac and we stop there every time. There breakfast is good but the Hamburger's are to die for. Tucked away in a little shopping center across the street from the hub center but keep looking, you won't be sorry that you circled around and around.

OMG, can you even go wrong with a nation's burger? Very satisfying burger, especially if you egt it with the works and grilled onions! I like how they offer free ice cold water, and not charge you for that shit. That I like. Honest people. Their pies are delish--especially the one with the strawberries piled high. It's a family fave!

i am not a vegetarian by any means but nation's makes a killer gardenburger!! i also love their beef burgers!! they are huge and they really live up to their name!! sure, they are greasy but most burgers are! good prices too.. the pie here is also good and a must-try if you are into pie! milkshakes are thick and creamy goes well with one of their burgers.. i have never been here for breakfast but want to try it sometime! i love breakfast!

i dont know what the raggin on this place is about. there's probably a negative skew since its a chain. but seriously the burgers are awesome, breakfast is delicious (but it's pretty hard for breakfast to suck), and the pies are to murder someone and dump their body in a ditch for.

Went here for lunch with a friend on a weekday. We got there at 11.30 just before the lunch rush started, so keep that in mind when reading the review. We both ordered the a cheeseburger with fries and a drink. The cheeseburger was delicious, pretty heavy on the mayo, but with a little scrape of the finger (or just ask lite mayo), it was pretty darn good. It gets a little messy trying to hold everything together and shove it in your face, so i suggest to not take your first date here or anyone you want to impress here lol. Yes, the soda fountain area was a little messy, but it didnt bother me too much since i was only there for 30 seconds to pour myself a drink. If you walk away, you dont have to deal with it lol. The service at the counter was nothing other than ordinary and the wait for our food wasnt too long. By the time the thought "Gosh ive been waiting for awhile now..." comes in your mind, your food is ready (kinda like if your at in-n-out). On the downside, the fries were luke-warm and soggy when we got them, so i suggest you swap em for some of their pie....which will was my mistake in not trying! maybe next time...

i had to review again because we had burgers & chili fries & OMG the chili fries went right through us! non-stop diarrhea...the worst part is we were at the drive-ins when all this occurred! lol ok but i'm not gonna knock them for that because i love the staff! they're very friendly at least with me they are. My daughter & I notice one of the servers got mad at a customer because he told them to make sure the burger is cleaned & free from all the grease! omg i was laughing! then the same customer asked for "packaged" ketchup rather than the ketchup that squirts out the container...anyways the server politely told the customer "i'll be right with you sir" (because he was slicing some of that delicious pie) the customer couldn't wait so the server threw the ketchup packets on the counter...omg that was so funny! i guess you yelpers had to be there....anyways know what you want when it's time to order because you can tell they get rather annoyed at customers.

If I could give no stars, I would. I went here for lunch once. That's all I could handle. Everyone said to get a hamburger here. I ate one bite, and would've spit it out if I weren't with three other people. The meat was not right. It had hard bits in it, like grizzle, or something. I thought I was going to be sick. I ate the fries, but they weren't that good, either. Maybe they have good pies, I don't know. Their hamburgers SUCK.

this place is kind of hidden. we only found it because we were heading for original pancake house but it was too crowded there and we needed to eat and run. saw building in the back to the left and it was nations! i remember going to the sf one back in the days but didn't quite remember how the food was. breakfast was okay, nothing great and i especially didn't appreciate the mounds of butter on my toast. you would think a place that does breakfast daily would have it together but they were so inefficient and scatter brained. they forgot at least one thing on everyone's order so there was a line of people asking, "where's my oj?", "where's my toast?". despite the fact the meal itself wasn't too great my 5 super stars goes to their INSANELY GOOD STRAWBERRY TART. yeah that's right, i got a freakin pie for breakfast too, OK?!! great, another thing to add to my already fat arse badunkadunk!
