The hawaiian on this food was premade sweet sauce on top of the chicken. Salad was from package and not even fresh with ready mixed misto dressing. Service ok. Would prefer mcd next time.

The pineapple wine is to die for. Most of the items on the menu are really good. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a taste of Hawaiian food.

Gross .... But the drinks were fruity and tropical... We tried a little of everything... I should have just stuck with what I know.

I have been coming here for years, even before they were at the current location, before they started doing dinners or drinks. I have had just about everything on the menu. The food is always very good and there is an excellent variety of options. The service is always friendly, thorough and attentive. They happily take care of special food needs.

Tasty and unique food in old town. Best place for tiki drinks in Eureka! Get anything with Khalua pig in it, you won't be dissapointed.

Called in an order, after 15 minutes of going back and forth I finally complete the order. Once I arrived to pick it up, the order was wrong and the bag they handed me was dripping in soy sauce from the one item they got correct. The place is a mess and needs better management.

Wow, this place is DA kine. Friendly, fast, and delicious. Fish tacos are awesome, deep fried to perfection. Cocktails are tasty and have alcohol in them. And they have POI!!! Definitely will be stopping by again! Mahalo!

We always enjoy ourselves when we come here! Atmosphere is fun, in a kitschy sort of way. The owner is super friendly, very attentive, and fun to talk to. Prices are veryreasonable. The original mai tai they serve will kick you in the pants, in a good way... Food is always tasty! Shrimp scampi, yum! Coconut shrimp, yum! Ribs, yum! Po po platter, yum! Pineapple gravy, super yum! Well, you get the point. :)

I was brought here by some locals, and can say I definitely left pleased. The food was very good and so were the sides. We ordered a few drinks and can saw they were made pretty decent. The bill was a little pricey when we paid (with consideration that there was alcohol included). I was skeptical about the "rice gravy" when ordering so I requested it on the side... I ended up asking for seconds as it was truly amazing with the rice, if I didn't live so far away I would come back just for that.

YUMMY FOOD! I relocated to Sacramento a year ago and still haven't found anywhere I love as much as this place.

Delicious authentic Hawaiian food served in a great atmosphere. First time customer and will def be back and plan on bringing my mom. Yummy drinks and my first meal was awesome. Everyone is super friendly and it's very relaxing. I hear it's busy often and I went on a Monday night because I prefer no crowds.

First time here. Host and servers were full of tasty suggestions and enthusiasm for the aloha spirit. We orders the Kahlua pigs fries with gravy. Juicy, savory and gut filling. Also the fried spam musubi hit the spot. Fish taco was yummy with the slaso but got a bit wet to eat all the way to the end. Not the biggest fan of the seasoned rice. A bit sticky for my liking. Oh and we got a blue Hawaii. Very sweet and blue :)

Ono .. Ono! Lived on the Big Island for a long time .. and finally found an Hawaiian place that has the kind of food I've been missing. Had Laulau for lunch .. it broke de mouth! So tasty! I will be back! Mahalo!

Everything here is delicious. I had the khalua pork nachos, which are great with the house made pineapple mango salsa. We also shared the baby back ribs, which are moist, falling off the bone tender, with a perfect sauce on them to make your mouth water. I also highly recommend the beef noodle soup, with ramen style egg noodles and house made Kim-chi; you can't go wrong with this one, with the miso soup base, tender beef, not too hot Kim-chi and perfect noodles. I wish we lived here so we could eat here all the time, but it's definitely on our list of favorites for when we come to town. The service was great, the owner is friendly, and the ambiance is casual.

The spam musubi is unexpectedly amazing. Service was lackluster but the owner was very nice. The tilapia in the fish tacos was over cooked as tilapia is quite thin, but the beer batter was delicious.

Overpriced. 1 waitress. Food needs moisture. rice was dry, chicken was dry, beef was dry. Salad is from a pre mixed bag purchased from Winco. How can you mess up chicken and rice?? Go here and find out.

This place os really not that good espeically for the prices and the wait everytime you go here. Nothing special about any of the food , have the time over sauced or over cooked. Have tried three different things here and haven't been happy with any of it so will not be coming back to this place . Staff is part of the problem they are to busy gossiping and leaving the food under the heat lamps...and it takes forever for them to take your order even though you say you already know what you want when they bring you your drinks.

Well now this is a little outside Big Dog Brando's comfort zone; but let's face it I like myself some tang, anyway I can get it if you're smelling what I'm stepping in... Got the baby back ribs and them little puppies had some good tang to em! A pleasure to have in my mouth. Literally. Also enjoyed the vaggies and sweet potatoes fries. Would certainly come again ;) ;)

Haven't been back in a long time. The food and service went way down. We sat at a dirty table, watched as a dirty rag cleaned it. Waited for service and it was just mediocre. This happened on more than one occasion...might go back to see if theres any changes...

Three adults and two children. One adult liked her ribs but lacks the WOW factor. The meat was not tender falls off the bone like advertised. Second adult ordered Ahi fish. It was deep fried and greasy. I ordred the Ramen with BBQ pork. $9.00 for Top Ramen and three pieces of pork, broth and fish cakes. I have to give them props for trying hard to make Hawaiian food but definitely falls short of genuine Aloha food. The kids fared better with pork sliders and corn dog. I will not choose to come back here again. It was voted as the best of business lunch in 2014 by people of Eureka. I say people of Eureka need to go to Hawaii more often...

The food is pretty good but the owners are VERY annoying. The man tries to joke constantly but his jokes are not funny at all. Not to mention they come to your table every two minutes. I had free dinner coupons from my birthday and I chose not to use them because of the pesky owners.

Feeling the "Mahalo" today! Dinner at the Banana Hut was a "wave" of satifaction. The greeting host was amazing--such an up-seller. He was talking about the sunshine making it a great day for cocktails before we made it to the table! And, it was not annoying or rehearsed in a non-genuine way. He was great fun, very knowledgeable and welcoming! I'm pretty sure he knows everything. I had Sauvignon Blanc and the Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi! My friend with me at the time is gluten-free, and she was upset that she couldn't have the Mahi Mahi because of Panko crumbs. But, she ordered the shrimp scampi and seemed to be quite satisfied. The plates are pretty big. She had 12 shrimp; although I think she wanted more vegetables. More seafood is probably a good thing to most guests! I loved the great portion of Mahi Mahi! I think a creamy dipping sauce would have made the fish better. It didn't have a lot of flavor on its own. The pineapple gravy is yummy--a little sweet, but perfect over the rice. The Hawaiian-themed decor really made the dinner experience! They went all out to make sure that their guests feel like they are in Hawaii. The booths, the tables, the walls, the ceilings, the mural on the way to the bathroom...everything reminds you that you are definitely supposed to be pretending you're having dinner in Hawaii. :)

Fair at best. I crunched down on several fairly large pieces of bone in my kalua pig and eventually, I stopped trying to eat it. I understand that pulled pork can tend to have bone fragments in it, but this was multiple, multiple pieces that weren't small at all. Also, the kalua pig fries were drowning in grease and were very soggy. The only thing that saved this evening was the complimentary dessert that they brought out when I complained about the abnormal amount of bones in my food. It was a coconut-flavored dessert that was actually very good. (I looked through their online menu, but couldn't seem to find the name for this dessert, perhaps I was looking at the wrong menu.)

I started eating Banana Hut when it was just a small hole in the wall at Redwood Acres. Unfortunately it was much better then. Since then they no longer serve their best dish- pineapple ribs. Service is so so. Used to be good but it seems like the owners can't keep anyone around for long anymore. Shrimp and greens aren't fresh. Overpriced for what you get. Really bummed about this place going down hill..

Went for dinner last night and there was only one other table. It looked so dead that I almost changed my mind and left. I wish I did. I had the kimchi/seaweed musubi and loco moco. Both were tremendously average in taste. I really didn't like the beef patty in the loco moco. It didn't look appealing and it didn't taste fresh either. I still had a lot of food left, but refused to take it home with me, cause I knew I was just going to toss it in the trash anyways. There was another table that came in after me, and all I heard them talking about were the prices. I don't mind paying for good food, but this to me was a waste of my money. It is such a shame, because the decorations are wonderful and I think the owners put a lot of time and effort into the entire concept and has a lot of neat little promotions, but I think they really need to put more effort into the quality and taste of their food than their monthly newsletters. I really find it hard to believe how they are able to stay in business. Are there no L&L hawaiian BBQ's around Humboldt county?

sooo delicious and amazing quick service so friendly... Also Mai tai makes me so happy. Got vegetarian dish... Teriyaki tofu and veggies. Loved it so much if was the bomb. In the past I haven't been as impressed but it gets better every time they are great and I can't believe I got served so quickly with 13 people. It was the best ever.

4 stars for the ambiance and service. 3 stars for the actual food. So, I have mixed feelings about this place. I like the environment. Its like your really in Hawaii. You got the music playing in the background, waitresses wearing Hawaiian dresses, and the decor is all breezy. When it comes to the food though, its just alright. Nothing bad but nothing spectacular either. The meat dishes weren't that flavorful. I like their fruity drinks though.

Kaluha pig fries are the bomb, my favorite thing on the menu, hella dank beer select as well!! BOooM!!

I am giving a 5 star. Since launching the new restaurant I have only eaten the same meal every time I have gone. EVERY TIME,always it is fantastic. I love the Kahlua pig. My clients that has eaten there, loves the Kahlua pig. I have probably had it at least 60 times, again always the same, always fantastic. The cook is really good at serving a fast meal that is delicious. The price is reasonable, the place is very clean, the kahlua pig is always amazing. Always.

Meh, I used to come to this place more when I worked down the street, but now I hardly come. Even when thinking of places to eat while in Eureka, Banana Hut doesn't really come to mind. The staff is usually friendly, the owner is usually there, which is nice to see in a restaurant, and they recently got a full liquor license which I'm sure has helped their sales. Everything is pretty salty, it doesn't taste very fresh, let alone home made. Not a place I'll come to very often.

Quick stats: Food never disappoints, service is good, chill atmosphere. But two stars go off for the following story. I walked in here for dinner one night with my boyfriend. I was wearing a little blue dress with blue heels, just for the fun of it. If you're a girl from Eureka you know its nice to not dress in yoga pants and a sweatshirt every once in a while. (ha.) The owner approached me and said "We just want to let you know that our restaurant has a casual dress code," in a condescending type of manner. Once he seated us he returned and said, "but you do look nice." Excuse me sir. Since when is it okay for you to establish a dress code in a damn restaurant. If I'm a paying customer I'd like to assume I can dress however the hell I want. So please, Yelpers, come here and eat but make sure to keep it casual or else you might get reprimanded. Douche.

I'm Korean mix and thought the korean bulgogi was an insult to Korean food. I guess it is mainstream to have Korean fusion in Hawaiian food..but what is really Hawaiian food is another conversation. The bulgogi was dark drenched in thick soy sauce? ( not bulgogi style thats for sure). I was not happy with paying 10.00 + on that meal. They used to serve kimchee, but now they don't. How can you not serve kimchee with bulgogi? I suggest..creating bulgogi sauce from scratch..its very easy and is more authentic. The meat also should be cut all the way (scissors work wonders). Please help Korean food get the recognition that it deserves.

First time for dinner after several lunches. We loved it. My huli chicken was perfect. He loved his kalua pork - so tasty. I am a big fan of their saiman noodles- perfect on an overcast day. We love the friendly service and prices. We discovered this gem on yelp.

This restaurant is my favorite in all of Humboldt County. Every dish is simply divine. The friendly staff truly epitomize the aloha spirit. If you are looking for high quality authentic Hawaiian food this place is for you!

My hubby & I have been here twice - once for dinner and once for lunch. We enjoyed both times. However, my hubby had a dinner selection that was not so good. I guess you have to have a taste for Poi. Neither of us do!!! It's not that it was bad - just not something we liked. I recommend the Korean Fried Chicken (only offered for dinner). It was AWESOME! I had the coconut fried shrimp for lunch (YUM!!!) and my hubby had the beef skirt steak (It was good, too!) We had takeout & dine in service. Both are pretty good. We would recommend this restaurant to people who enjoy something a little different once in awhile!

Hawaiian BBQ!!!!! So glad the moved to their new place on 5th! I love Hawaiian barbeque. It's an affordable, great tasting meal with a great ambiance to it. The staff are always on top of it and Ken walks around making sure his customers are happy, he is as laid back as if he were on the islands. My favorite dish is the Korean chicken, though there are many great dishes that are favorites to the islands. Going to Hawaiian barbeque is always a pleasant experience.

Had an awesome fish taco with sweet potatoes fries. The decor was sweet and fun to see. Only feedback was it was a bit over priced. My appetizer was the same price as my meal and the side salad was just lettuce on a plate that was tiny and cost four dollars. Fun restaurant to go to.

unexpectedly good for the terrible town (is it really a town?) of Eureka! very friendly service, atmosphere, and pretty good food. I knew nothing about hawaiian and I just enlarged my horizon a little :) I would drive around this town next time though.

Great service, decent food but I think they need a little more kick, the food tends to be too sweet for my liking. If they added a kick it up a notch option that would rock

We went here for my birthday on a Tues and there were at least three other parties there celebrating birthdays, too. I guess there's not much else to do in Eureka when it is hailing outside. The kaluha pork was awesome, my husband's Asian salad was good, but the luau luau pork (pork cooked with butterfish in a banana leave) was not at all up my alley. The fish texture was so slimy and the fishy flavor permeated the pork. Lava flow drink was good, a little pricy at $8. Decor is a little over the top, but staff were friendly and attentive. We'll be going back to try some of the chicken dishes!

  • Susan H.

I got the lemon chicken here- I felt the service was fine but the food was not very good or at least what I ordered was so overwhelmingly sweet I couldn't handle more than a few bites.... If I go back I'll try something different.

    (2)
  • Chris K.

I had the pineapple spare ribs and the Korean chicken between my girl and I. The spare ribs were boiled not grilled and the pineapple was canned. The spare ribs were not cooked that day or were simply very tough, but it seemed as though they had been reheated. The Korean chicken was better but everything was way too sweet for my taste - too much sugar, salt and cornstarch. The macaroni salad was OK but very bland, although it had a nice texture and variety of ingredients. Long story short, if your diabetic or watching your carbs this isn't the place for you. Think Hawaiian themed food as opposed to Hawaiian cuisine. Service was excellent.

Hawaiian food in Humboldt? Aloha. =) Yummy! Today a coworker suggested it and man did it hit the spot. I didn't even know this place existed in Humboldt. It's located where the old Club West was (oh how I don't miss that lovely establishment). I had a small lemon chicken meal with a scoop of rice with pineapple gravy (don't knock it until you've tried it cause it is soooo good) and a scoop of macaroni. salad (which was super creamy). It was perfectly filling. Never went in because it was brought to me but I would definitely consider going to this place again.

After hearing numerous great things about this place, I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately my experience wasn't as positive as I had hoped it would be: Goods: - The restaurant itself was wonderful with a tropical and relaxing environment. - Our server was friendly and attentive, constantly keeping our water glasses full and our requests met. - The menu was diverse and had numerous delicious sounding meals to choose from. - Most meals come with rice (w/optional pineapple gravy - worth trying) and macaroni salad; both were quite yummy. Bads: - Sticker shock. The average meal was $15, alcoholic beverages $10 and sides weren't cheap either. - I ordered lemon chicken and and was disappointed in the quality, so much so that I had a hard time finishing my meal. It tasted like freezer chicken that was possibly cooked in the microwave then coated, fried and covered in sauce. Between two people, we spent over $50 for dinner (without tip) and I had a hard time finishing my plate. Very disappointed. I had high hopes for the Banana Hut. =[ For non-picky meat eaters, not living on a budget, I would recommend this place.

Banana is ok...but definitely not a 4. I've gone twice and both times it's been pretty "meh." Tonight my boyfriend and I each had a mojito. Neither tasted like they had any rum. For $5.99 I feel like I should at least taste a little rum. The drinks were yummy though...anything with lots of sugar and mint is bound to be good. I got the pan-fried tofu and a green salad as my side. The green salad was literally just the bagged lettuce with dressing on top. No added tomatoes or cucumber even. The lettuce was doused in dressing, which was good, but I didn't need my salad swimming in it. The pan-fried tofu was fine, what I expected. It was pretty sweet, but I do like sweet. It was pretty limp though, I wish it had had more weight and crispiness. My boyfriend got a pulled-pork slider, french fries and a cucumber salad. The cucumber salad was $3 and it was SO TINY! His pulled pork was actually pretty good. It didn't have sauce on it, which is how I have always had pulled pork in the past. Despite that though, it did have lots of flavor. The decor is fun. The drinks are cute and come with little umbrellas (I like drinks with umbrellas). The staff are always friendly and pleasant. And the owner is ALWAYS there! It's so nice to see the owner walking to every table and talking to all the customers.

Good is good, but overpriced. More expensive and not as good as you would find in Hawaii. They take advantage of the fact they are the only Hawaiian Barbecue in the area. Service is terrible. Waitresses have bad attitudes. Used to be my favorite local restaurant but haven't been back in almost two months due to the horrible service and the way I saw the waitresses treat other customers the last time we were there. Don't plan on ever going back.

  • James B.

Ono grinds brah! I had the moco loco and it was solid. It did need a bit more salt. Huge portion for the large size. One friend had the Korean chicken - a crispy, sticky, tangy treat. You will no be disappointed. Another had the shoyu chicken. It was not like what you will find on a plate lunch on the the Big Island, but it was da kine. Big ups- our appetizer was kaluha pig fries - fries, kaluha pig, brown gravy, cheese, and green onions. OMFG It's like poutine with salty pork. Hell yeah. Great prices, great flavors, great portions. Decor was passable (nice looking). Service was polite. Final note - they carry a pineapple wine that was nice :)

Shopped by Eureka on the way to Seattle. Found this great restaurant from Yelp. We ordered Chicken katsu with curry sauce, Macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi, and Pork Lau Lau. All of the dishes were so good!! Katsu had good crust, the sauce was tasty. The mahi mahi was so fresh and it was so big in size!! The pork was so tender. The services was supper! Too bad the restaurant is so far away from home!

  • Robyn Y.

I should have stuck to my instincts and ordered a veggie dish at this place. I got the chicken teriaki sliders, which sounds very yummy in theory. They are hard to eat without getting messy and the chicken is that low-quality frozen kind. I ordered the sweet potato fries but was very disappointed because they were soggy. Also, my food was room temperature when it was finally served- if it had been warm, it would have been easier to eat.

We were looking for a new place to try and The Banana Hut was a great choice. I had the Scampi and my wife had the Fish Tacos. They were both very good. The service was very good our hostess was friendly and funny and our waitress was very helpful and prompt. Definitely will go back and try the rest of the menu.

This lovely little place was tucked away at the Redwood Acres fairground, in Eureka. I have eaten at quite a few Hawaiian BBQ places all over the state of California and Hawaii. The food was plentiful and yummy! The meats were slow cooked very nicely with the collagen sweet and broken down to perfection, lending to mouth watering tender meats. The rice was cooked perfectly and not gooey. Macaroni salad was pretty much standard Hawaiian style macaroni salad, but very good. Tried a few sauces, liked them all. The only thing I'd like to see is a fried tofu dish and maybe a rotating daily soup. Humboldt can be cold and rainy, so soup is always a nice addition. Love this place and will return. The owner told me he was moving to a new location. . .I'll look you up next time I'm in town. Thanks, Chef Laura Walker

What an unexpected find in Eureka... (read my review on that disgusting place "The Sea Grill".) Great decor, owner was a kick in the pants! He made my night..!! Wonderful Blue Hawaiians. I had the Macadamia nut Mahi-Mahi. All good.

Awesome food! The setting is a little funky, but it definitely feels like a tiki bar. Our party of 10 all enjoyed our dishes, most notably the coconut shrimp, chicken cutlet, and adobo chicken. The macadamia nut pie is also a must-try! This is a fun casual place, people of all ages would enjoy themselves, and seemed like a great family restaurant as well. Super friendly service, and the owner greeted us and made us laugh throughout the meal. Great Hawaiian beers too!

I came here on a Wednesday night, it was pretty packed for a Wednesday night. The dude was very welcoming and funny! haha he cracks me up all the time and service was hella friendly!!! Always checking up on us and making small conversations! :) I had the Huli Huli (something like that that) Chicken It was pretty good! I really like the rice with gravy, their mac salad was Ookay! I had better and my chicken was knda dry .. but it was still good :) haha I also had the Lava Flow Mocktail! I really enjoyed my drink!! :) I wanna go back a couple more times to try two other plates!! :)

I must say that a number of these reviews are surprising. Maybe we just hit them on a good day while passing through this summer? Or, maybe the decision to order Hawaiian was the right one. In any case, the Hawaiian fare was solid. We ordered kalua pig, lau laus, and mana pua. Kalua pif was tender, juicy, and salty as it should be. The lau laus were well steamed and the mana pua was good. Not island-quality, but for a continental restaurant, good enough. The decor's a bit cheesy, but I tend to judge restaurants on the food and service, both of which were good. If we passed through town again we would return.

I've only been to the Banana Hut once but had such a negative experience that I won't go back. First let me say that the food is about on the level of King's Hawaiian, which we do not have in Humboldt but if you've been there then you know what to expect: semi-pre-prepared food without a lot of flavor. My biggest complaint was that it was all VERY salty. A Hawaiian friend of mine who is an excellent cook was the first to point this out. Hawaiian food is typically on the salty side but this was just over the top. The manager was out-of-this-world rude to his employees in front of the entire evening dining crowd. I confronted him about this and he began to tell me of his personal health problems and about the medication he was taking. Bizarre. I don't think there are very many reasons to treat your employees poorly, and certainly not in front of customers. Unprofessional. I've tried to stay open to giving this place another try but I was just so put off by my first experience there that I won't go back.

Simple old school diner ambiance ,with Hawaiian decor. Menu is definitely Hawaiian, with Koreanand Filipino influence. They also have nachos, make of that what you will.

This is a great place to eat! the atmosphere is kinda cheesey but this just adds to the charm, who dosen't like a theme resturant now and again? the staff is always very friendly and i've never had a bad meal there. Definitly say yes to the pork!

  • Jim G.

The Banana Hut's food is legit. Good selection, creative. Favorites: pig fries, the teriyaki chicken with stir-fry veggies, and the BBQ beef dish. The dining room is a little warm for my taste and I don't want to sweat during my meal, so I've been taking it to-go lately. Overall, the Banana Hut is solid!

Pleasant surprise and a highlight of our visit. The decor was nice and not cheesy at all. The wait staff was pleasant and patient (especially with a table of 12 loud people of which a handful had never had Hawaiian food.) And the food was excellent. We ordered a variety of food and none of the food disappointed us.

Recommended by a friend who was right. Place has faux/weird/tacky Hawaiian decor. Kinda beyond funky but OK. Food was good. I had Maui Waui Mahi Mahi. Was well prepared. Sides of rice and veggies, both good. My dining companion had sweet potato french fries which were really good. Service was good. They kept my water glass full which I appreciate. Price was somewhat steep. Dessert was overpriced. Be sure to sign up for the newsletter on their web site which is interactive and cool. thebananahut.com I will go there again.

The Banana Hut was recommended to me for a a family dinner. Fatima was so willing to work with me and made a wondeful meal that everyone in my family enjoyed. The dinner went off without a hitch and it was a great experience to work with the Banana Hut! I would highly recommend this restaurant for their unique food, friendly service, and great location!

UPDATE: They have changed locations! It's obvious that the owners have been scouting locations, waiting for the perfect one because they have found it in the old Samauri building. They opened up the huge front window so now you can see inside. And what a sight! It's a fantastic theme restaurant. Bamboo on the walls, big leaf-fans, totally Island vibe. The servers even wear matching Hawaiian print uniforms. The food is now served with real silverware instead of plastic, real plates, not paper-and you can get cocktails with umbrellas! It packed when I went in. I never, ever thought of making a reservation for this place when it was at Redwood Acres but, if you go on a weekend, I would recommend one. The portions are perfect, priced right and their menu has expanded. I am so happy about this change! The only criticism I have (and I have to give it) is that their servers are really obviously inexperienced. They're nice but they have little idea as to what they are doing. It's tolerable, though, in the grand scheme of things and at least this is an area where they can improve. The only Hawaiian place in town, this place does not disappoint. If they were open twenty four hours I would eat there every day. The tricky thing is getting there. It seems strange to go to the Fairgrounds to eat something that isn't on a stick but it's worth it if you persevere and find it. If you have never been there before (and the owners will likely know it if you are a newbie) then you get to sample their yummy sauces. Everything is great from the katsu to the brown gravy, you will love every bite.

I really wanted to like this place, but the food was disappointing. I've been here twice. The first time was significantly better than the last, however overall it still left much to be desired. Let me recap: Upon my first visit, I had a mixed drink which was excellent. I also ordered the kalua pork sliders or as Banana Hut likes to call them, slidaz. The pork was excellent, better than I had in Hawaii, however, the buns utilized were not homemade. They are the same Hawaiian buns you or I can buy from any major grocer. In addition thereto, the pork juice had soaked completely through to the bottom of the bun. Thus, the bottom of the bun was soggy, and it disintegrated in your hands. Since the drink was good and the pork was scrumptious, I thought I'd give it another chance. On my second visit I ordered a mai tai and the pork lau lau. The drink was pink. I was immediately skeptical since I'd never seen a pink mai tai as they are usually orange with some sort of dark rum floater. Well, I tried it and it was horrid. It tasted like sweet grapefruit juice and I swore they forgot to add the rum. My partner's drink was the same. We sent our drinks back, assuming that the bartender had simply forgotten to add the liquor. They came back tasting the same. My pork lau lau dinner wasn't much better. As my side, I asked for the green salad with sesame dressing . The dinner also came with two scoops of rice covered in some sort of apple glaze and chicken long rice. Mysteriously, the sesame salad dressing and the apple glaze on the rice tasted the same . . . and it wasn't good. It tasted like the sweet and sour sauce I'd dunk my chicken McNuggets in as a child. The green salad looked like the bagged salad I can buy from the grocer as well. The pork lau lau itself looked beautiful as it was wrapped in a banana leaf, but the contents were dry, overcooked and fatty. It was also a very small portion. My plate was overtaken with banana leaf, rice, and bagged salad. My partner had the kalua pig dinner with a side of fries. The pork was really mushy. Not as good as it was in the sliders, but maybe that's perhaps the buns had soaked up the liquid. The consistency of the pork on this occasion would have allowed one to take an ice cream scoop and plop it on a plate. That's pretty much how it looked too. Perfectly round, and molded together. Not very appetizing. Overall, it was a depressing meal. I'd even go so far to say that I'd rather go to Applebee's where they sing and clap their hands than revisit this mess.

I've been the Banana Hut many times. The food has been delicious, especially at lunch when the prices are more reasonable for what you get. The service, however, has always been spotty. This last time was no exception. We walk in to the restaurant with a line out the door (2 parties a head of us), no one greets anyone for 5 min. The smaller parties get seated, I finally get asked how many in our party (5) and was told they could probably not accommodate us. Meanwhile, party behind us speaks up, says they have a reservation and the waitress just walks away with them. We were left standing there a bit confused. Oh well, we went to Rita's and had a delicious meal, were promptly seated and not rushed at all. I think that was our last Banana Hut visit.

This is my favorite restaurant in the world! My fiancé and I visit frequently and are always satisfied. The coconut shrimp are amazing! I hated shrimp until I tried Fatima's shrimp :) you have got to try this place and make sure to get gravy on the rice! Also they serve very delicious pineapple wine that goes great with dinner.

I was very disappointed with their service and quality of food. I didn't get my utensils until my food get to my table, also my Katsu was cold and their remedy was cooking it over in the microwave oven. Also it's very difficult to get drink of water. perhaps should leave a pitcher at the table if there are so busy. I think they really need to come up to speed on their professionalism.

We were traveling through Eureka on our way camping and found Banana Hut on Yelp. Excellent service and good food. Good crowd but no wait.

I've only been here twice, and my low rating is in part due to the awful service I received my second visit here. I don't have a whole lot of Hawaiian food experience, pretty much just from the L&L chain, but I had high hopes from seeing good reviews on yelp. The chicken katsu was good, but both the katsu sauce and the rice 'gravy' were a little too sweet. The kalua pig was far too salty and very mushy, and only edible with the liberal addition of the pineapple 'gravy'. When I decided to give them another try, the chicken katsu seemed even more sweet and salty than before. I realize hawaiian food is generally salty, but the Banana Hut's combo of extra salt and extra extra sweetness just upset my stomach. Also on my second visit, there seemed to be over twice as many employees than diners yet my water was never refilled (on top of salty and sweet food) and even though I didn't sit by the counter I could clearly hear the waitresses talk about their weekend plans and personal gossip. Probably just a bad day for them, or their employees are just getting used to working at an actual restaurant with table service, but the lure of spam musubi just isn't strong enough.

The Banana Hut is one of my most favorite places to eat in Eureka. The atmosphere is fun and a bit campy, and the food is uniformly wonderful. I like to go at lunch and get the combination plate with two different entrees. I've tried many of the items on the menu and have yet to find one that was disappointing. And be sure to save room for dessert! My favorite is the black rice pudding--oh my, it is soooo good!

Great atmosphere, great service and yummy food! It's nice to have a different option than burgers, Italian, Mexican and Asian cuisines!
