My girlfriend and I have been courting Davis for a few months now, before we decided to move. We ventured off to find a good Chinese food, and we didn't find it here. Here, we found a GREAT Chinese food place. We love it. There cherry chicken and lemon chicken are amazing. Mmmmm. Just mmmm.

Not my favorite Chinese place food in Davis. Came here for lunch with a few friends and for $8 or so, you get a decent amount of food, but I would say it's not too worth it. I usually go to Yelp for recommendations and most of the reviews said that they had the best Honey Walnut Shrimps they have ever had, so I decided to try it along with a side of Pork Fried Rice and Vegetable Chow Mein. Sad to say, it was not the best Honey Walnut Shrimps I've ever had. The batter was a little flavorless and the mayonnaise left a bad taste in my mouth afterwards. The Pork or Chashu Fried Rice was pretty good. I think that was the only thing I finished eating on my plate. The Vegetable Chow Mein was not as good compared to the rice. Lastly, one thing I do recommend is their hot and sour soup. It came with the lunch special so I didn't have to pay extra to try a bowl. So, I was glad to have trusted the reviews with this one! If you're looking to have some Chinese food in Davis, this place has a lot of variety. However, it is a little out of the way and the dishes are semi pricey ranging from $6-$8. I would compare it to a more expensive and nicer looking Panda Express.

This may not be gourmet Chinese food, but it doesn't pretend to be. The menu consists of dishes that any fan of American Chinese food will recognize. What was special is the quality of the preparations. The hot and sour soup is beautifully balanced. The noodles with stir fried vegetables is tasty, but would be just as good with less oil. I loved the chicken pot sticker and the tender Hunan beef with chiles, peanuts, and snow peas. The servings are more than generous at exceptional prices. This is a great neighborhood restaurant that deserves the recognition it has received.

I went for the first time yesterday with some friends and we all really enjoyed it. Lots of delicious food, fairly fast service, and a good price. I ordered the Moo Shu Vegetables and had enough to take some home with me. However, when eating the leftovers today, I was appalled to find a rather large piece of fabric in my food. Yes, fabric. About a square inch of it. Needless to say I was disgusted. Definitely not going back to Wok of Flame any time soon.

I always get the garlic chicken or the general chicken lunch special here! If you don't like sweet & sour soup, you can always ask for them to change it to wonton soup. Service is always great and the fortune cookies here are always on spot..come on..

Best Chinese food in Davis. Extensive menu of appetizers, soups, noodle, and beef, pork, chicken, seafood, & vegetable specials. Everything is great and portions are generous. Partial to the cream cheese wontons, spring rolls, wonton soup, Hunan Crispy Shrimp, and General Chicken, but you can't go wrong with anything here. Jasmine, pork fried, and brown rice available, nice beer/wine selection, excellent service, and fun atmosphere. Fantastic lunch specials up until 3pm M-Sat.

Been going here for about 5 years now. Service is great, but more importantly (and more impressively) the service is consistently great. The combination platters for dinner have generous proportions. Food quality is also exceptional. Definitely more expensive than Mcd's, but every dollar is worth it.

My favorite Chinese restaurant in Davis. Their sesame chicken is to die for I like the salt and pepper shrimp to and don't forget to try the chicken corn soup YUM!

I really like this place! I enjoy that the ambiance is more subdued and nicer than usual Chinese restaurants which tend to be a bit more hectic (not necessarily a bad thing). I am also happy that their difference in ambiance does not compromise the authenticity of the food. I really liked their hot and sour soup and the rice noodle texture. Overall it's a good place, but is a bit pricier than most.

If you're located in the area, you've got a good Chinese option available. Ordered the honey BBQ chicken wings, vegetable chow mein, fish with black bean sauce, and a side of steamed rice. The honey BBQ chicken wings were awesome. I'd come back just to order these, seriously. Vegetable chow mein was pretty average at best, and I actually got a piece of pork in one bite so if you're a strict vegetarian/vegan I guess you ought to be careful... Fish with black bean sauce was cooked well and the fish was tender but there wasn't actually that much fish, it was maybe half vegetables, and the sauce was a little thin; the taste was fine but I've come to expect thicker, plum-ier sauces when it comes to black bean sauce. Overall I'd go back if in the area and feenin' for some Chinese, but I'd probably make some different entree orders just to see what else they're capable of here. I'd basically definitely order the honey BBQ chicken wings though... really good.

Not sure if I came at a bad time. Dirty soup spoon to start with and the whole lunch, general chicken, was tremendously salty. I've had good meals before, maybe just a bad day. Wait staff was very nice.

  • Karie C.

Not as good as it used to be. Vegetables not as crisp and bright, chicken was terrible. Something has changed, and not for the better, I am sad to say.

  • Jacquelin S.

Consistently good food. The fried items are crisp and never greasy. The vegetables are fresh. Everything we have ordered has been flavorful. After accidentally being given the next table over's dishes, we discovered that brown rice is available. We will be ordering that instead of steamed white rice the next time.

I was surprised that my friends and I were the only asians that came in during the lunch hour. I've never been to an asian restaurant without at least one other party being asian. Haha, I guess that's because the food is not super super authentic. But hey, the food was alright and filled me up for sure. I ordered the general chicken lunch special and it came with two sides and a cup of spicy and sour soup. For my two sides, I got brown rice and steamed vegetables. The general chicken was good but just not amazing enough for me to push my rating up to a four star. It was easy to bite into and the flavoring was just right, a bit on the saltier side though. Luckily, the vegies and brown rice balanced that out. The cup of soup was alright, but I've tasted better. The chicken was also yellowwwww but I think that's because the sauce sunk into the chicken while they were cooking so that didn't bother me. The service was really fast and friendly so we enjoyed that. The food was enjoyable too, so this place is a-ok!

I used to be obsessed with Wok of Flame when I lived in South Davis. The combination platters are HUGE, such a good deal. They have a ton of vegetarian options, and the service is fast and friendly. As far as Americanized Chinese food goes, this place is pretty good. Also, maybe it's just me, but the vegetables they use at Wok of Flame taste fresher than other Chinese restaurants in Davis.

We placed a last minute order about 35 minutes before they were closing and this usually makes me nervous. However I cannot say the same at Wok of Flame. I ordered chicken chow mein, vegetable fried rice, and sweet and sour pork (nothing too fancy). I chose these because this was my first time here and wasn't sure what to expect, especially being as late as it was. Overall, I really enjoyrc the food. The noodles were big and flavorful, not too greasy. Not sure why the rice was yellow looking, but I didn't care when it tasted as good and flavorful as it did. The sweet and sour pork had a nice taste to it, but a little more sauce would have been nice. Additionally, everything was ordered as take out. I usually don't do this as I feel styrofoam continues to cook food and makes it soggy. However, once again this place did not disappoint. I will be back and will try more original dishes.

Best damn Chinese restaurant in davis! Service is awesome! Fast and friendly all the time. Food is fresh and always hits the spot. Their Honey walnut shrimp gets my 5 stars alone. I would highly recommend this spot to all my Chinese food lovers

Wok of Flame, I am highly disappointed. I have been coming to your restaurant for the past 4 years, on an average of once a month. The last two times I had to get to-go orders. Both times the orders had something missing or received the wrong thing. I really don't know if you are worth patronizing again. I love your fried rice. I SPECIFICALLY said I wanted the fried rice. Yes my fault for not taking the time to untie the bag, take the containers out of the bag and open them both up just to make sure I had fried rice. But I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THAT!! So low and behold, finally sit down to a much anticipated lunch and I have steamed rice, A few veggies and a small serving of the main entre item. Such disappointment.

I feel like this place is so underground no one ever knows what I'm talking about when I mention it, but I enjoy this restaurant alot! It has good Chinese food (for Davis), and the waiter is HOT which always adds to the lovely atmosphere they have going on here. I would NOT recommend the curry chicken though...tasted like an msg party in my mouth. But everything else I've ordered here was decent. Eat here!! :) They have amazing lunch specials.

This was was very delicious. I highly recommend . The Honey Walnut Shrimp was Amaze balls.

  • Sara W.

Hot and sour soup is too die for! When we go out for Chinese now, it's just not the same...so it's worth the wait to either just drive from out if town or just go for lunch while I'm at work! Never had anything bad here yet and the staff are the best!

  • Jackie S.

I've read some reviews about this place's authenticity.. If you think this place is "authentic," then your level of authenticity must be on par with Panda Express.. I've been here three times and even though the food is pretty decent and the price is good (dinner combo is less than $10 and consists of rice, soup, wonton or eggroll, and dish of your choice), this wouldn't exactly be "authentic." It is, however, very clean and has a more trendy look to it than normal Chinese restaurants if that's a pro for you. I've had three things: 1. Honey Walnut Shrimp: It's okay.. Wayyy too sweet in my opinion, but if you like it sweet, try this! 2. Mongolian beef: Okay, I think it's because I just really like Mongolian beef in general, but this this was really good! I think my favorite here. 3. Curry beef: This one was really watery and didn't have much taste to it. 4. Garlic string beans: Pretty good. The string beans were a little too undercooked, but if you want something on the light side, this would be good, Don't try to talk to the waiters in Chinese, lol.. They WILL give you a weird look. And they charge for tea, boo. :(

As a vegan this place is amazing, super fresh veggies no fish oils or MSG. Super tasty food. Nothing is greasy or over cooked. We loved the brown rice. Everyone ordered a dish and we had a ton of leftovers for the next day. The veggies are cooked with a little crunch but not under cooked. The sauces were spicy good, but not so hot you could not enjoy the other flavors. Tofu was fresh and cooked with a little crunch on the outside. Our meat eating friends said their food was as good a pricey places in Chinatown SF. Service was great and it did not take long to get our food. You know how sometimes you are starving and it just seems to take forever.... but not the case here! You should give this place a try for yourself. Seems like many kid friendly dishes as well. We walked in with a group of 6 and were sat in a huge booth with plenty of room to spread out.

I've been to this place a few times. The food that I've had seems to be pretty good. My faves being the wonton soup (it's amaaaazing), and the cream cheese wontons are also pretty great. Their food portions are huge which is also another plus! It's a little pricey but not horrible. Unfortunately, their service is HORRIBLE! The servers, hosts and hostesses are all super friendly, but not very attentive. It takes forever to get your food, especially at dinner time. If you want to have this place for dinner I suggest ordering take out from there rather than dining in. My family and I sat there for 45 minutes tonight waiting for our food and we counted AT LEAST 7 to go orders pass by us. During our wait we were never asked if we were doing okay, nor were we offered an apology. We ended up leaving before our food arrived. I offered to pay for our soups (which we did receive within 10 minutes), but the gentleman at the register said not to worry about it and apologized for the long wait. This place definitely has potential, I don't think it's horrible, but I do think they need to figure out where their lack of efficiency lies. I personally think maybe they are lacking cooks in the kitchen. Maybe management needs to look into hiring more people. Just a thought.

Undeniably edible, but the best in Davis? Authentic? Not really. I've tried their lemon chicken and pepper chicken lunch specials and I was very unimpressed. Both dishes had heavily battered chicken which is not what I expected. I'm used to pepper chicken being served with lots of veggies and a dark peppery sauce. Their version looked more like orange chicken without sauce. It was also very doughy with very little meat, like eating chicken-flavored donuts. There are much better options in Davis that are in the same price range.

We did a Yelp restaurant search as we were in Davis. Wok of Flame came up with four stars, so thought we'd drop in and try it. I tried the Cherry Chicken, steamed vegetables and brown rice. It was really a fantastic plate of food. Everything very tasty and fresh. I was very pleased. The service from Chris was exceptional. Talked with John afterwards, and he too very friendly. If you're looking for good service and fresh food, please don't hesitate to go to Wok of Flame, you will not be disappointed.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. I went with Riki N, who also reviewed and we ordered the honey BBQ chicken wings, vegetable chow mein, fish with black bean sauce, and a side of steamed rice. The ambiance and service were good and the food was tasty.

Just ate here for the first time today, and will definitely be going back ASAP! I was craving HOT & SOUR SOUP, and this one EXCEEDED my expectations. The vegetables and tofu tasted so fresh and the broth was super flavorful. It wasn't super spicy so you might want to request that if you prefer a spicier hot & sour. I also got the SALT & PEPPER TOFU, which was delicious. It also tasted super fresh. It was not as pepper-y as I am used to, though, but that's ok because I will just specify more pepper next time. I got my food as take-out, and the employee I spoke to was very friendly and sweet. My food was ready in less than 20 minutes. I can't wait to try some more of their menu! Definitely would go here before Silver Dragon or Hunan here in town.

Wok of Flame. I saw a wok when I peaked in the kitchen, and there were some flames so you do get what the name tells you. I used to come here all the time with my old roommate, we were strangely addicted to their food. If you want some good American Chinese food, I would suggest Wok of Flame. They have every kind of typical chicken dish you can think of. Kung Pao, General, Orange, Lemon, Garlic... I am sure the list goes on. The food is always fresh and has a clean taste to it. The Lunch/Dinner specials are go to dishes when you come here. Lunch is of course smaller, but for the price, you can't go wrong. You get your choice of fried rice and chow mein, a big egg roll, soup, and your entree. I personally like their sweet and sour soup but their wontons aren't too bad. My only complaint is that the inside of the eggroll tastes like the chicken flavoring packet in instant ramen. I always get served by one of the two wok of flame brothers (at least they look like brothers). They are also very accommodating for large parties. I am never disappointed by their service, you can relax knowing you're in good hands.

Great place if you want small, overpriced portions. We live in Davis and have tried this place 4 times over the last 6+ years. We keep wanting to make this place work but no dice. Our last experience (nov2014) we ordered the won ton soup and salt pepper pork ribs ($20 approx). Both disappointed. The won tons were the size of a gum drop (ie tiny) and the ribs, although they had flavor, suffered from very poor pork cut selection. From each rib piece I was able to eat probably 30% (40% at the maximum) meat. The rest were tough, tendon-like meat and bone. In conclusion: we've quit trying to make this work. There's a much better Chinese restaurant, Four Seasons, near the Chevron station off Richards exit. Better value for your money: great flavor and portions for a fair price.

Yes... if you decide you want Chinese food with your date... bring her to Wok of Flame. Very nice seating area and service is fantastic! SERVICE: LOVE the service there! They are very helpful and they seat you right away! 5 stars! FOOD: Here's what we got... (1) Beef Chow Fun - 5 stars! (2) Egg Rolls - 5 stars! (3) Mongolian Beef - 5 stars! (4) Chow mein - 4 stars! (5) Fried Rice - 4 stars! (6) hot and sour soup - 5 stars! A few notes about the food: (1) I usually get beef cause it's hella soft and tender! (2) I always ask for very, very light oil and no msg ... and they are always down to do it. ONE THING that I was NOT impressed about: I "checked-in" on yelp and there was an offer for ice-cream... and the server said they are no longer doing that... errr hrmm... then take it off of yelp! But ... she ended up getting us ice-cream ... lol. OTHER than that! This place is totally cool and will definitely will come back for more Chinese food! **OVERALL: 4 stars for the good food, cool servers, and nice seating area.

Tried this walk of fame err I mean Wok of Flame for the first time yesterday. I work at Panda Express in Pleasanton so I know gourmet Chinese fast food when I taste it. After trying this establishment I must say I am a slight fan which is why I am giving it three stars. The grease and saltiness was on par with the averages that most Chinese restaurants have. I ordered for pick-up and the transaction was smooth and really unremarkable. I got the lunch special sesame prawns and cost came to $9.18 out the door. I ordered the sesame shrimp with a side of half pork fried rice and vegetable chow mein. When i opened my box of greasy goodness the smells of sesame oil and prawns brought me back to the glory days of Beijing. The shrimp were breaded and had a slight crunch. The sauce was a bit too much as it was enough sauce for 20 shrimp. Alas, I was only given 7 shrimp, it looked quite meager when placed in the large entree portion of the to-go box. I would have liked at least 10 shrimp as that is an even number and not unlucky. The sauce being too much, added too much saltiness. The flavors were good but just too much sauce for the 7 shrimp. The noodles were of the thicker variety and were quite tasty. The pork fried rice was yellow? I don't know if they add turmeric to their rice but I'd like to know why it was yellow, not the usual light brown that fried rice is supposed to be. The final piece to this puzzle to complete the meal was the fortune cookie. At first bite it was intriguing, thinner and crisper than most fortune cookies with a stronger vanilla flavoring. Then the taste went south and was too artificial tasting. Very poor brand of fortune cookie being distributed here. Overall, it was an A-ok meal. The sesame shrimp was worth 4 stars on it's own, but adding yellow rice, greasy chow-mein, and weird fortune cookie brings this place overall to a 3 star average establishment. Don't get me wrong I will be coming back to try their famous honey walnut prawns. I am just saying panda express gives larger portions for a smaller price at an everyday price not a lunch special price. This place was a little too salty, greasy, and spicy to eat everyday but I think I will be coming back here until I find a better Chinese restaurant in Davis.

I came here for the second time a few days ago and finally decided to write a review for Wok of Flame. Upon walking in you are greeted nicely, and the restaurant has very interesting/nice interior design in my opinion. The menu has a large selection of many typical Chinese dishes which all sound delicious to me. I had the General Chicken combo the first time I came and the General Chicken over rice the second time. I am a big fan of General Chicken and of course had better elsewhere, but for Chinese food in Davis, this is by far one of the "better" places. However, it was a bit too saucy as opposed to the previous places I have had the dish at before. The portions are large enough to fill you up and even leave extras for a snack later on. I also remember having the Sour and Spicy soup here as well. I thought it was pretty good, and I enjoyed it very much; definitely something I would recommend if given the option of a soup. The pricing however, is a little bit on the expensive side as opposed to the other places where you can grab Chinese food in Davis, but I believe that it is definitely worth it if you are hungry and around the South Davis area.

Living only blocks away from this place is a bad thing. this is my favorite place for Chinese food. One of the must orders is the Salt and Pepper chicken wings, i like mine extra spicy with jalapenos. I have yet to try one thing from this place that is not excellent. The staff of brothers, Bobby and john, are great and personable.

I love this place! I came in expecting it to be expnesive based on the reviews but I came with a friend and we decided to get the 2 ppl dinner special which included 2 appetizers, chowmein/fried rice, soup, and 2 sides ! We decided to get egg rolls, beef skeewers, chow mein, hot and sour soup, sweet and sour pork, and kung pao chicken! Egg Rolls/Beef Skewers : I really enjoyed the presentation of both of these items! The egg rolls were really yummy and crispy and the beef skewers were very tender and yummy but didnt include alot of meat Chow Mein : It tasted really good! It was a bit oily but that didnt hinder the dish too much Hot and Sour Soup : OMG I LOVE THIS STUFF. LIKE SERIOUSLY, ID BE DOWN TO ORDER THIS SOUP ON A COLD DAY Sweet and Sour Pork : Pretty good for Davis but it doesnt remind me of the ones I get at home. Instead of being pork spareribs, its more of pork pieces . Similar to what you would find at panda express so I wouldnt get this dish again based on the fact thatI didt trek all the way from NorthDAvis for something comparable to Panda Kung Pao SHrimp : I really enjoyed this! Although it wouldve been better with shrimp, this dish had alot of flavor. OVERALL, everything came otut to be about 30 bucks so about 15 dollars per person and my frined and I werre both able to bring home leftovers and eat them for about two days straight ! So Wok of Flame gets a thumbs up in my book ! ** Also, service was very nice and decor was very clean and modern!

I think most of the Davis students that have been here and given it high reviews have spent too much time away from home and the real Chinese cooking that comes with any metropolitan area in California. I came here on a Friday afternoon with a group of 10 people, and to my surprise, the whole place was almost empty. That was the first warning sign. Our orders were quickly placed. We were all given a small bowl of hot & sour soup, which is pretty generous of them. The soup itself was nothing special, and not as good as any others I've tried. The lunch special comes with two side dishes and a main dish for around $7-9. I ordered the walnut prawns with pork fried rice and chow mien. If people say Panda Express is the lowest form of Chinese cooking, they've gotta come here. In comparison, Panda Express packs much more taste and freshness into their dishes. The prawns were relatively small and were heavily breaded. Rice and noodles were all mediocre and not too great at all. My friend ordered the pepper steak, which was even worse. The meat tasted terrible, the rice was some of the worst I've ever tried, and half the dish was just vegetables. One good thing here is the service. Friendly waiters and always a full glass of water. However, if you want better than mediocre Chinese food, make the extra 10 min drive to Sacramento. You won't regret it.

I ordered the Orange Chicken lunch special. It wasn't the best orange chicken i have had but it wasn't the worst either. It was average. Not much flavor. Portion size wasn't that big but couldn't expect much for being the lunch portion size. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here again but if wanted Chinese food and this was nearby, I would try again

Update- I am changing my review and removing two stars for this. We ordered for pick up tonight and the meal we ordered came with a large container of sweet and sour pork. The restaurant did not include this in the order and much to our disappointment we ate dinner at home without the main course. I called the restaurant and they apologized and said we could come back for it or they could credit us for a future order. Although these were good options in a bad situation I feel like they should have offered either to deliver the item which was missing or if we went to pick it up they should have refunded us the price of the pork. Otherwise they could have offered some extra compensation for the added inconvenience. My husband chose to go pick it up and I thought maybe they would throw in something extra since we had to drive there twice but they did not. Only the one order of pork was in the bag. I feel like this was a big error and they should have offered an extra side dish/entree or some coupons for a future visit or something for our trouble. As it is, I will not go there again and I went there a lot. I would have forgiven this error easily if they had done anything extra to make it up to us as customers. Oh well. There are lots of great places for Chinese in Davis. Here is my previous review - My family loves this restaurant. The owner asked me to mention on yelp that they do not deliver even though they come up under the search for Chinese Delivery. They are great for pick up too though and food is usually ready to pick up within 30 minutes of calling them. We love to order the family style dinner specials. I have Two big eater men in my family as well as my self and my young daughter and the dinner for 3 plus an appetizers or the dinner for 4 is more than enough delicious food for us all.

Everything was delicious. Yummy wonton soup, perfectly shaped fried wonton with cream cheese (they said you could request jalapeño), and bomb cherry glazed pork. I didn't realize it was fried, but ate up the perfectly crunchy nuggets anyway. Steamed veggies were perfect with a bit if crunch. Hubby's Mongolian beef and pork chow mein was gobbled up quickly. A heavier dish with good spice and overall BBQ'd smokiness was better than I expected. Excellent service, food delicious, and came out quickly. We'll be back !

Davis isn't huge on Chinese food but this is probably the most authentic Chinese food you can find in town. They have great waiters/waitresses that know the business very well. It's a family owned restaurant so you know they make everything themselves. The food is very good, everything is perfectly seasoned with a good amount of meat on each dish. Their soups are a bit weirdly sized but it'll do the job if you want a small appetizer. The lunch specials come in huge plates for a pretty reasonable price. Comes with fried rice, chow mein, and your choice of meat The distance is pretty from the rest of the city and downtown. It's on Mace which is literally the edge of town. But it's located next to a Nugget and some others so you could do a one stop shop! Price-wise this place isn't too bad. It's definitely comparable to other Chinese restaurants the proportion of their food.

I got a to-go order for the first time this week. Loved it - so much fresh veggies in the food, great menu selection. I got the sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, chow fun, pan fried noodles and salt and pepper shrimp. Everything was super tasty and didn't leave me too thirsty and feeling greased out. It's on the higher end of prices for Chinese but the quality was worth it.

I love the Hot and Sour Soup! and the Chicken Chow Mein! Whenever I am sick I get this combination and it is the best comfort food medicine. There are so many wonderful dishes that come out of this kitchen it is hard to choose. My husband and I have been coming here for the past 5 years and we have never had a dish we didn't like. We have our tried and true favorites, but we try to order something new each trip so we don't get into a rut. Best Mu Shu Pork I have ever had, and their Pork fried rice is so good it is hard to stop eating. Their veggies are fresh and crunchy, nothing is ever soggy or salty. The staff is always friendly, service is prompt and efficient. I like that the same staff has been working there for years, lets you know they treat their people well. Great food, great staff.

Best Chinese Food in Davis or in the general area. We always receive fantastic service and are never rushed. We have been coming here since the opened, moved away for 5 years and first meal when we got back was here. You cannot go wrong with the Wok of Flame.

I am a fan of their lunch special. It's good, cheap and the portions are awesome. Great place to go eat lunch! The service is great as well. There is plenty of seating, and the overall environment is very clean. I really enjoy this place.

They are the Bomb! I love Wok of Flame - and every chance I get to stop to have lunch or dinner - it's my Davis restaurant favorite. I absolutely LOVE: 1. Crab Rangoons 2. The Won Ton Soup - you don't even have to ad soy sauce, it's spiced just right! 3. Chow Mein - it's not only delicious, it's not Greasy!!! 4. Crispy Hunan Shrimp (I can't eat spicy food, but they make it 'not hot' for me - and the sauce is delicious! Wok Of Flame get Two Thumbs UP! Will always return - and always tell everyone I know about it. Also, their Service is Excellent!

We used to be regulars at Wok of Flame but haven't been back since the beginning of the year when our table was ignored while tables of 8+ parties and large college men were promptly served. My family of four waited nearly 40 minutes for our food while my two under 10 year old kids were practically crying they were so hungry. When I flagged down and complained to the waiter (he was actively avoiding us) he gave me a shrug and said that our food was coming. No concern, no offer to discount an entree, no fried wonton or something to hold my hungry kids over. With so many other tasty choices in town, I'm not likely to go out of my way to return to WoF. They were great when they weren't busy but we can't count on that every time we want to drive out there.

Their combo meals for $20 are great! They have good soups and the entrees are enough for two days of food! I recommend the Mongolian beef.

This may be one of the best Asian restaurants in Davis, as we all know that getting good Asian food in the boonies is a challenge. My friend and I came by here for dinner and it was packed! Now I know why. First off, the service is wonderful! All the servers are very nice and attentive. The food isn't bad and there are substitutions. I ordered the garlic chicken stir-fried instead of deep fried, as I despise deep fried foods. The portions are huge and the price isn't too bad. If you're craving some good Chinese food, Wok of Flame is the place to go!

    * The food was just fair. I had the Mongolian beef and it was not very memorable....just so-so * The portions were average and the prices was fair. * The downside to this place is the service.....our waitress was very disconnected and was just going through the motions If you're in need for a quick Chinese fix, this place will work....but, in my opinion, I would look elsewhere if you like good service,

i've brought home orange chicken from trader joes that was literally better. sorry. I had lunch here today for the last time- everything is just so mediocre. nothing inedible but absolutely nothing stands out at all. service is usually spot on. i've tried general chicken, kung pao this, honey walnut prawns (for lunch there were 4 prawns) and i've been so underwhelmed compared to what i am used to even in sacramento. some things i've had were so drenched in sodium i didn't want to finish it. i'm really unsure what people are giving this place "four stars" for... are they the elusive paid yelp reviewers we hear about?

I used to live in this area and I definitely ventured here pretty frequently. I usually get the General Chicken but I really love their Hot & Sour Soup. This place is pretty good and stands out from the other Chinese food restaurants in Davis-in a good way! I think they have a lunch special that is pretty cheap too.

Located a great biking distance away from campus (okay maybe not that far but I am out of shape), Wok of Flame surprised me and made me reevaluate my previous opinion that all Chinese food in Davis is disappointing. The last time I ate at Wok of Flame was a few years ago, but this is my memory of their food. My roommate and I decided to try Wok of Flame on a whim for dinner. We enter and the interior is nicely decorated, with newer chairs and tables compared to other Chinese restaurants downtown. Being the two starving college boys, we decided to get the family dinner, choosing Hot and Sour soup and Style B For Four Persons. Even though the Kung Pao Shrimp, Szechuan Stir-Fried Chicken, and Hunan Beef all tasted similar, I enjoyed every salty, savory bite. And you can't go wrong with any of the side dishes, since both the fried rice and chow mein were tasty. Onto my favorite dish on the whole menu --- the beef sticks. Placed on top of a flame, the beef sticks come out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. My stomach is grumbling now just thinking about them. If I was a cartoon character, you would a though bubble with me eating an unlimited supply of their beef sticks. The best part is that their menu has such variety and is categorized. If you feel like chicken, just flip over to see all of the chicken dishes. The only dish that I did not like at all would be the Honey Walnut Tofu. I do not know what I was thinking when I substituted that dish in. Which reminds me that they do allow substitutions for family dinners. The main downside is the price. Entrees average $8, which is pricier than Old Tea House. But their Lunch Special are priced similar to that of Hunan's. When I have more time to slowly bike myself over to Wok of Flame, I will definitely try their lunch specials. What I recommend: Beef Sticks

Terrible. The food is just meh but they also make mistakes when writing down orders, especially for pickup. Don't be surprised if you arrive there and a different plate is waiting for you, or they simply forgot to write down your order. There are better options in town.

Pretty tasty Chinese food in an area of Davis with few restaurants. Good-sized portions too. For appetizers, we had the potstickers and agedashi tofu. Both were flavorful without being soggy or overly salty. I had the general chicken rice plate with cream cheese wontons and also the wonton soup. It was a big plate that 2 could share, so I had a lot of leftovers for the next day's lunch. The soup was good and not too salty. General Chicken had good spice and was tender -- still not a match for the Noodle Express General Chicken from back in the day. Worth a stop if you're driving to or back from Tahoe. Nice staff, friendly servers too.

Consider that I lived in Davis for more than 4 years now , I am surprised that I didn't came across this place earlier. The food, service, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was all very impressive. First of all ,the dinner menu selection is huge! There were easily over 50-60 dishes to choose from. The price isn't cheap but reasonable by Chinese restaurant standards (each entree will run about $8 dollars and appetizers will be about $4-$7 each). A dinner meal will easily cost about $15 a person including tips and taxes. The restaurant is very clean and has a nice ambience to it. It doesn't feel quite like a typical Chinese restaurant but I enjoyed the setting. The servers were extremely friendly and the overall dining experience was pleasant.

Wow! I'm glad I gave Wok of Flame a shot! this is by far the best Chinese restaurant we've been to in Davis thus far! After exhausting our list of places to eat from (Mr. X & I have a list of restaurants we like/ want to try so that whenever we're hungry we simply pick a place off the list) we remembered there was a Chinese restaurant over on Mace that our friend said was decent. Since we were pretty sad from our last chinese food experience (Gold Town) we felt we owed it to ourselves to have a decent chinese meal. When we arrived at Wok of Flame, I was impressed!! the decor inside looked nothing like what I imagined it to look like! For some reason, Wok of Flame gave off this sushi bar vibe (perhaps its the black marble ceiling). It was about 2pm when we arrived so there were only 3 other customers in there besides us. Service was excellent & the food arrived quickly! We ordered: - Hot & Sour Soup - Honey Walnut Prawn Lunch Special w/ fried rice & vegetable Chow Mein - Orange Chicken Lunch Special w/ fried rice & vegetable Chow Mein I'm pretty sure the Hot & Sour Soup was premade (the server brought it out two minutes after we ordered) but it was HANDS DOWN THE BEST HOT & SOUR SOUP we've had in Davis!!! OMG! Finally!! a place that knows how to make hot & sour soup! The Honey Walnut Prawn actually tasted like the ones we'd get in SF, none of that nasty greasy looking itty bitty shrimps some places try to pass off as honey walnut prawn - although I felt that their walnut prawn sauce could've been a little more flavorful. As for the Orange Chicken, it was done PERFECTLY. Crispy skin covered in spicy orange sauce YUM!!! The fried rice & chow mein weren't anything too special but it served as a good compliment to our entree. The servings here are HUGE, we had so much food left over we were able to take the rest home for dinner! I highly recommend this place!!

I agree with other reviewers that this is a pretty standard Americanizd Chinese food place. While Wok of Flame is better than many other places in Davis, it probably wouldn't be my first choice if I was ever craving Chinese food. The service was excellent. We were greeted and seated immediately. The servers were attentive and very friendly. The dinner menu had a lot of variety. There's no particular regional cuisine, and instead was a hodge podge of Szechuan, Canton, and just what you'd imagine American Chinese food is. The food was very average. The best dish was the fish fillet with black bean sauce, it was very flavorful and well prepared. The Szechuan style stir fry beef wasn't great. While the texture was good, soft beef with crispy veggies, the seasoning just was off for me. It was rather sour. We also ordered the salt and pepper spareribs, salty yes but other than than there wasn't really much flavor. Being in Davis though, you really can't be too picky.

By far the most authentic Chinese restaurant in Davis! Nothing is too greasy, you don't get a stomach ache, and some of the guys working here are just plain cute! Sizzling Rice Soup, Egg Flower Drop Soup, Crunchy Noodle with House Special Gravy, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Chestnuts and Sugar Snap Peas, and many other things I can't remember! It is a bit far off campus, but it's well worth it! P/Q line passes by. And it's located in the same plaza as Mountain Mike's, Nugget Market, Guadalajara, and Burger King.

Best Chinese food in Davis! Hot and sour soup is amazing, great general's chicken and crab wontons. We live in Sacramento and STILL make the drive over to Davis when we want Chinese, better than any PF Chang's around.

  • Pauleen T.

Wontons were really good, pork fried rice was pretty decent, hot and sour soup was off-putting, and the general tso's chicken was so salty that my tongue shriveled up inside my mouth and died. Maybe it was a bad day, but if I decide to come back I'm only ordering the crab cheese wontons and maybe the rice.

  • Mike K.

I ordered the Kung pao chicken, which was OK. A pretty heavy dish. My wife ordered the sweet and sour chicken and offered me a bite. WOW!! I would put that sauce on anything! Addictive stuff. We were there a couple weeks ago and its all I've talked about since. Can't wait to go back. I wish we had a Wok of Flame in Vallejo!

My favorite Chinese food place ever! The best service around by far! It is like no other Chinese food around. My favorite dish is their orange chicken with chow mein!

TLDR: - Not that special. - Food isn't as heavy as most other Americanized Chinese food. - Underwhelmed by oversimplification of flavors. - Clean but crude execution. Needs more layers of flavor. Sauces start to taste all the same.

Are you stuck in Davis and craving Chinese food? Well go here! This is seriously the best Chinese place in town! Nice ambiance, clean place & good service. My absolute faves: -Hot & Soup soup* (although some chefs cook it differently for the most part it's been delicious!) -General Tofu....there is a hot pepper picture by it but it's really not spicy at all -Tomato Beef Chow Mein....I normally don't like tomatoes but this dish surprised me

A lot of people think that this place is not that decent, but I'm just going to state that this place is pretty much the classier version of hoodaddy Hunan. I'm serious, multiple flat screen tv monitors, cool looking decorations, and the trippy lights have got to have a placebo effect on the food. The entrees at Wok of Flame are endless, just like Hunan. And you can get a 10% discount if you are a UC Davis student! I'd say it's a dollar more expensive than Hunan. So long review short, if you and your date are craving Hunan for dinner and you want to keep it romantic and nice, Wok of Flame is the place.

  • Sharon O.

Considering the reviews on Yelp, I really expected Wok of Flame to surpass other Chinese in Davis, but I can't say that the items we ordered were anything special. The food (take-out) was perfectly edible, but it's not a place I would go out of my way to order from. Perhaps it was just the items we ordered, but that was my experience. Not bad, but not fantastic, so we'll be sticking to Shanghai Town in West Davis as our go-to Chinese take-out place.

Wok of Flame is the best Chinese food that I have found EVER and this is saying a lot because there are some pretty good places around. I think what pushes them to be the best is the quality of the food as well as the amazing staff. No matter how busy they are, I have never had to wait for a table or more than 15-20 minutes for my food. My favorite thing there hands down is their salt and pepper wings. I don't even know how to describe them--except if you like spicy foods combined with Chinese flavors and wings you will LOVE these! These could be a meal alone. However, if you are looking for a meal, I can also recommend the chicken chow mein, orange chicken, and honey walnut prawns. You can always count on exceptional service, a clean restaurant, and leftovers. This is a must visit whenever you come to Davis!

The Good: Good service and the General Chix was good, but had a bit more batter than I'd like. The Average: 11 dishes that all tasted about the same; some spicier. The fish was "different" as it was supposed to be deep fried, but came out a little soggy. For the Honey Walnut (with shrimp) dish the walnut was not too fresh tasting, and shrimps were smaller sized and covered with a bit much mayo. Veggies were okay, some a bit bitter. Oh well, such as life. The Bad: Expect to smell like the food when you get home. Double overrated at 4 stars. Don't believe those who claims this is the "most" authentic Chinese restaurant when the menu is in plain English AND there are no round tables for big groups.

Place is decent. It isn't super cheap, nor is it authentic (granted I'm not Chinese, but) but it's tasty. SO I give it a solid 3 stars. If you're hungry and are in the mood for something that won't make you sick or is bland, this is the place to go. Wok of flame, what to eat noodles, chicken or sizzling meat Food is solid, place is clean not only is their meat dishes, try the string beans.

This is my favorite place to eat in Davis. I love getting Chinese food and this place gives me the best Chinese food in Davis!! Their hot and soup soup is the best I've ever had. I always get their combination plate with the soup and chicken with green bean in black bean sauce. It is the only thing I get because it is so darn good!! Highly recommended. This is the only place my parents like to eat when they come to visit :)

Haters gonna hate. I adore Wok of Flame. Last night, my husband and I went there for the second time and we left completely satisfied. Not only was the food tasty (no gristly meat here!) but a single combo plate with an extra cup of hot and sour soup provided more than enough food for two grad students on a tight budget. Is it the most authentic Chinese food you'll ever eat? Of course not. You're in Davis, silly hipsters. However, Wok of Flame consistently provides delicious food and attentive service. Get off your high horse and enjoy some orange chicken.

Clearing out my drafts again...went here back in June, I think. This place has really good hot and sour soup. Had the Szechuan chicken with brown rice. Good flavor - I tasted a hint of ginger and possibly some pineapple too? No offer of chopsticks, though - could it be because I'm white?

I have a love-hate relationship with Wok of Flame. Sometimes the food is really good, but sometimes the food is just meh. Another thing that I don't really care for is the gamble you take with wait - whether that be waiting for food or waiting for your take out order. One time my boyfriend I came here on a weekend - the restaurant was empty, but there were a lot of take out orders sitting on the counter. It took them about 20 minutes to come take our order, and on top of that another 45 minutes or so to bring out our food. It does NOT take that long to cook food. (We were starving so that probably didn't help at all.) On top of that, people were coming in to pick up their orders, but they also had to wait for 20 minutes or so. Maybe it was just a slow day, or some cooks didn't show up - so I'll let it slide. Me and the boyfriend had a small protest against Wok of Flame and decided not to come back for a while, but we missed the food so we eventually came back. This place isn't your typical Chinese restaurant on the inside - it's clean and it's modern, with a few TVs around the restaurant (always playing sports which is good for the boyfriend!). The people who work here are always really friendly, so I always appreciate that. Don't forget to bring your student ID, there's a student discount! (But if you forget it, they usually let it slide.) Probably the best thing that I've experienced here is that I came here while sick one time, and I was coughing my brains out and didn't have any cough drops. Not only did the waiter bring me a cough drop (without me asking), he also brought me hot water. +infinity for customer service (thanks man, youthebest). And let me tell you, that is the BEST cough drop that I've ever had - it was an Icy Strawberry Halls cough drop (the first time I had ever tried one) and it was so good. I went over to Nugget Market after dinner and bought myself a pack, and now every time I get sick I always buy it!

I know a ton of people rave about this place saying its the best Chinese food in Davis but boy are they wrong. Maybe it is just me but I always can't finish the food here and trust me I have a BIG appetite. It's not because they have huge portions but I think it is whatever they put in the food. Maybe it's too much corn starch in their main entree I don't know but I always feel sick after visiting multiple times and I always didn't finish my plate. I do like the service by the two brothers because they are super friendly and chill. I guess my favorite part in the restaurant is the Hot and Sour Soup they serve before your main course because I actually can finish it without feeling sick. Or maybe its the soup that makes me feel sick...hmmm no one will ever know :'(

Wok of flame is my comfort food. I enjoy their hot and sour soup a lot (best in davis) as well as authentic gummy-yummy potstickers. I also really heart that you can request normally deep fried items to be wok tossed with the same sauces as you would have had on the deep fried meats. this is sort of revolutionary and will be something I really miss when I leave davis.

My favorite chinese restaurant, hands down. The salt and pepper wings are delicious. I could make a meal out of those alone. As for the entrees, I can recommend the lemon pepper chicken, honey walnut prawns, and general chicken. I know I've tried others, but these are the ones that stick out as being consistently excellent. The portions are all generous and I routinely have leftovers. The restaurant is always clean and the staff is nice and attentive. If you don't feel like going in, you can call ahead and pick up your order in about 15 minutes.

  • Amy Q.

I agree with other recent posts, their food has gone too far in salt content. I felt I had to get my water refilled at least 5 times to finish the plate. Didn't even bother taking leftover home and felt super bloated after eating. Hope this changes or else I'd have to speak up next time! Their wonton soup is still good, the soup base is just right and the hot & sour is the best for cold nights.

Probably the best Chinese in Davis. If you're familiar with Davis, you know that for a town with so many residents who are....capable of making Chinese food, there are astonishingly few quality Chinese restaurants. So with that caveat in place, Wok of Flame is a solid choice. Affordable lunch specials, complete with soup, fried, rice, and chow mein. Plenty filling, and light enough that you don't immediately want to pull a Rip Van Winkle at the mattress store as soon as you're done eating. Which is good because the last time I did that, the mattress store employees were all like "You can't sleep in here anymore!" but then I showed them my fortune cookie fortune that said "You will get your way today." And I did. Where did I get that fortune cookie? After my meal at Wok of Flame.

Have again: Chow fun seafood for lunch for $9 was excellent. Enough food for two lunches. This would have had 5 stars, but it only had 2 shrimp and 3 small scallops. Plenty of calamari and noodles. Their hot sauce on the table is excellent.

  • Kristen G.

Place is completely full and they only have two waiters. Waited 10 min to order then another 5 for drinks. Finally got served dinner 30 min later and it had good flavor. A bit on the salty side but nothing rice couldn't help.

Definitely one of the better Chinese restaurants in Davis. How often do you come across a small Chinese restaurant that has a clean interior and nice decor? Bonus point for that! I've only been here twice, once for dinner and once for lunch. They are quite lenient on the family style dinner, in such that they let you substitute different dishes than what's in the list. I remember the dinner came with a really fun beef skewer appetizer that came with an odd contraption with an oil based flame inside. Not really sure what you're supposed to do with it, but I decided to wave my skewer around the opening slits to re-grill it for fun. The price is pretty decent for dinner and lunch, especially for the far superior quality of food (but this is only comparable for Davis).

This was our go-to Chinese place the past 2 years living in Davis. Their food has amazing consistency in quality and taste; with easily the best quality chicken I have had at a Chinese place - in Davis or anywhere else. You can get all dishes as stand-alone, or as a special with about half the meat but plus chow mein or fried rice and choice of pot-sticker/wonton/egg roll and soup. Favorites are (in order) general chicken, sesame chicken, and teriyaki chicken (the first two are breaded). For appetizers, the cream cheese/crab wontons are incredible, as is the fried rice or chow mein and both soups. Beef and shrimp dishes aren't bad, just not as addictive as the chicken. The service is consistently friendly and accurate, and they are great for dine-in or take-out.

If you are craving Chinese food this is the place to go. I have tried every single Chinese restaurant in Davis, this place is by far one of the best. Of course this isn't "real" Chinese food, but if you are looking for American Chinese food, this place is fantastic! I used to eat there pretty often for lunch with my housemates, even been to a birthday party there once... What makes this place most attractive to me though is the fact the servers actually speak perfect English, "Hey there fellas, what can I get for you today?" note the word: fellas. The place is also ridiculously clean for a Chinese restaurant, very nice all black interior, almost feels like a bar. The only con about this place is the location. It is way too far for anyone to venture, unless you live in south Davis. Even then, you have to resist the temptation of pulling into McDonalds and Burger King before actually reaching there. Anyways, enough description about the place... The food here is fantastic! Hot&Sour soup here is the BEST, very thick and flavorful. It comes standard with the lunch special, which is a bonus. Seriously, you cannot touch their hot&sour soup, it is on another level. If there is one dish to recommend, it would hands down be "Garlic Chicken". It is like the Chinese version of McNuggets with sweet&sour sauce. Don't get fooled by the name, it actually doesn't taste like garlic. The chicken is fried, like most of the chicken dishes, drenched in a special sauce that is somewhat yellow. Not quite sweet&sour, but just the right balance. Even though the chicken is fried, the oil is clean, as noted by the golden crunchy texture... In a gist, the meat is fresh, food not greasy, fantastic service and a quiet location. The price is a little plus compared to other Chinese places that offer food like cheap hookers, but if you want an escort for a change, this place definitely packs the flavors.

The service is good and the food is not bad. I really like the sweet and sour soup. Do not expect authentic Chinese food here but it is by no means panda express either. Its just right between that!

This isn't quite "authentic" Chinese food, but neither is most of the rest of the stuff in Davis anyways. The food is A-ok, but I feel it's slightly more expensive than some other local options. And I felt that the grease content was comparable to other places in Davis. There are a lot of good vegetarian dishes, especially the mushu vegetables. They're also able to make the fried rice vegetarian as well, and that was not bad either. I do like the location since I live in Southeast Davis, and we have few enough options as is.

While Wok of Flame doesn't serve the best Chinese food ever, it definitely beats all the other Chinese places in Davis. I come here every so often whenever I'm craving Chinese food. The service is great, and the food is very filling. I came here for dinner yesterday with the bf, and as always, I had a positive experience. To start off, we ordered some hot and sour soup and honey BBQ wings. The hot and sour soup was pretty solid--hard to mess up this one. The honey bbq wings were pretty good! The wings are fried to a nice crisp, and still retained their crunch with the application of the sweet and salty sauce. The sauce is a tad too salty, but it was otherwise a decent dish. A big improvement from the last time I had them here. The wings are incomparable to Santung's back home in SF, but they'll do while I'm stuck in Davis. For entrees, we ordered beef and broccoli and some dry beef chow fun. In case you're unsure about what the difference is between dry and gravy chow fun, the gravy version is just a little wetter and has a mix of veggies stir fried into the noodles. I highly recommend the dry chow fun over the gravy style. The beef chow fun tasted pretty good as usual, but it was a little bland--perhaps this was because my palette was a little messed up from the overseasoned chicken wings. Beef was nice and tender, and there was a good ratio of beef to noodles to onions. The bf had no complaints about the beef broccoli, so I assumed that was good. For $30 bucks, we got a pretty good amount of food. We were definitely stuffed by the time we left the restaurant (and with leftovers)!

The combo platter is a great deal. Soup apprtizer entree side for something like $10. You definitely get more food when you take out. I love their hot and sour soup especially when im feeling sick.

I could not BELIEVE this place is actually rated FOUR stars. Perhaps south bay Asian spoiled me for this meal, but I have to say this place reminds me of an upscale Panda Express where the food behind the glass panel is inside rather in visible. Our large group tried 50% of the lunch specials offered. Unfortunately, they were all equally bland and oily. The main dish was small and almost looked like a side dish with the choice of noodles or rice. I ordered the Pepper Beef special and it consisted of large pieces of chewy beef drenched in some MSG-filled sauce. Sadly, the only thing I enjoyed was the piece of orange at the end of the meal. Tip: if you want authentic Chinese food, go somewhere else.

Probably the best Chinese food I've ever had, not greasy or heavy. Great service, AMAZING tofu dish (General Tofu). We paid attention to the Chef's specials (dishes with a wok next to the description) and wound up with fabulous food. We also ordered Orange Chicken, Vegetable Fried Rice, Vegetable Chow Mein, Snowpeas and Water Chestnuts (my favorite). All were excellent and I'm a picky eater! I loved the food but wish I had eaten more because I got hungry rather quickly afterwards. Think my body was tricked by the spicy food. It is dark inside, didn't bother me because we went for lunch but might bother others, especially at dinner

Really? 4 stars? Have you ever been to a REAL Chinese restaurant? I have, and it is nothing like Wok of Flame. Their food is equivalent to, if it exists, a higher end (and only slightly) Panda Express. When I think of Chinese food, I do not think of fried rice and chow mein on a plate with a couple pieces of stir-fried beef or chicken. If this is what people really think is real authentic Chinese food, then these people need to drive to Sacramento or San Francisco or San Jose or ANY OTHER CITY with a real Chinese restaurant serving real food! That said, it is not that this place is at all HORRIBLE, it's just... not Chinese and not worthy of 4 stars! In Davis, I like to go to Jade Garden for what I consider more traditional, authentic Chinese food (not to say that JG is comparable to the other Chinese places I've been to, but there is not place for that here). All in all, if you want to eat the kind of food they serve here, better to go to Panda Express off of Covell instead. You'll pay less, get more food, at the same quality.

My favorite Chinese food so far in Davis! Had their combination platter for dinner, portion was pretty decent. We ordered the Hunan Crispy Shrimp with pork chow mein, and sesame chicken with pork fried rice both with potsticker and hot and sour soup. Everything was very delicious, nothing was too sweet or too sour, it was just right. Definitely, this place will be our go to place when we are craving chinese food.

I had high hopes for this place based on reviews that I had read before trying it out for myself. I was fairly disappointed with the food. It was EXTREMELY salty, especially the pork chow mein. The price was a bit high for what was served, although the portions were huge. I would prefer if they gave me less food but better quality. The service was pretty good, the waiter was nice and pleasant. It took a long time for us to order, get our food and receive our check which was odd since the place only had approximately 2 or 3 other tables to be waited on. I'll probably give this place one more try before condemning it from my collection of regular restaurants in Davis.

I have been here a couple of times. The food its good and the service its great. Last time I was here, I ordered to go and the wait time was 15 mins. The server actually cared and offered me a cup of water! This is what I call good service.

This place is so tasty. When you walk in you see a very hip and clean Chinese restaurant. You get a sense of luxury as you sit in your very comfortable padded cushiony seats and their is a nice sense of ambiance . So many days I would dream about eating at this place. The only things that stops me is the prices. Even their lunch special tend to be a little pricey. But hey if you got the money and you feel like eating at one of the best vibing and best tasting Chinese places then this is the place to come to. It is a little removed from the rest of Davis and hard to find but there is plenty of parking in the plaza where this place is located. The only reason I am not giving it a 5 is that 5 are reserved for places that I would actually drive to for miles to eat and this place I wouldn't die if I never ate here again...but I will be close to it.

Oh boy, I wish I'd known about this place when I lived in Davis! This has perhaps the best Chinese food I've had in the Sacramento area. We ordered a 2-person family dinner (plus some crab rangoon), and it has lasted us three days! We had almost filled up on our appetizers (the rangoon, plus wonton soup and two gigantic egg rolls, plus two skewers of pineapple beef to roast ourselves) when our actual entrees arrived, and we were delighted. The pork chow mein was a perfect balance of vegetable, noodle and pork, with wonderful flavors coming from each. The sweet and sour pork was just as phenomenal, with each morsel perfectly breaded and fried. It perhaps could have used a little more sauce, but I also really enjoyed the fresh crispiness of the breading that hadn't been doused in their delicious sweet and sour. However, the coup de grâce of the night was the third entree. The family dinner normally comes with chicken and vegetables, but the menu welcomed (note: WELCOMED) any substitutions that we wanted to make. To replace the chicken and vegetables, we chose the honey walnut chicken. I've had honey walnut prawns at several other Chinese restaurants before, but I'd never seen that amazing sauce with chicken on a menu before. Unlike the pork, this chicken was veritably smothered in their decadent and creamy honey walnut sauce, and we savored every bite. As soon as we found how good this dish was, our focus was immediately centered entirely upon it. However, there was so much of every dish that we had leftovers of all three entrees, including the honey walnut chicken. My girlfriend and I have been looking for a good Chinese restaurant that a college student can afford, and this is the place. We used to drive all the way to old Folsom to go to Hop Sing Palace, but Wok of Flame now takes the cake. We'll be back, hopefully soon!

Man.. I'm so glad I came across this restaurant! Not only is the food awesome, but the name is, too. I was really excited for some chow fun, so I ordered the lunch special (for only $6.25!!) and got the dry chow fun with beef. The order also came with soup! When I first tasted the sweet and sour soup, I was so happy that it tasted the way that it should! My boyfriend couldn't take as much of the taste, so I ate his as well (more for me :D ). The food arrived before I could finish the soup, and I must say that the chef did the chow fun JUSTICE. Mmmmmm.. it was the real deal. We also ordered honey walnut prawns, which I had never eaten (I'm used to the mayonnaise type). It was really good and I could actually taste the honey. Besides the food, service is also important to me. My boyfriend finished his food about 30 minutes before I did, and we were really appreciative of the server because he didn't take the plate away; taking it away if I were still eating would have been rude (since, generally, it makes the other person feel rushed). I will say that 99% of the time, servers DO make the mistake, so my man and I were really happy with this server. I'll for sure be coming back to this place. Too bad I hadn't known about it any sooner!

We were just at this place and I am sorry but was terribly disappointed especially after reading all the awesome reviews on this place. We had the combination plate talk about disgusting food. In this combination plate was their vegetables which were raw no taste in any of their food accept their sweet and sour soup the vinegar taste so strong it honestly made me sick.I know it does have a strong taste of vinegar we get it all the time here at home. This combination plate also had sweet and sour pork with sauce no taste what so ever then what really got to me it was either a piece of red bell pepper or a tomato frankly after seeing a huge rotten spot in the middle of the piece I went on to there noodles again no taste huge noodles just no taste. Frankly by that time we both said no more got up paid and left. Now we are from the valley, we were in the area taking a pet to UC Davis this place was close to our motel. Gosh people if you think this place is so good try some really good Chinese food next time your in the valley near Fresno Sorry to say I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Wok of Flame is a must try for Davis! The food is delicious, and there aren't very many Chinese restaurants in Davis. I love their hot & sour soup. One of the few places that makes it spicy enough for my liking. The crab rangoons are a must try! As is their orange chicken. The prices are pretty good for the portions. I personally feel the dinner combos are the best deals: small appetizer + soup + entree w/ rice for about $9-10. I've never sat in there (it's a little dark for my liking), so I can't say much about the service. I live just a block down, so my friends usually get take out. Tip: if you're a UCD student, show them your ID for a small discount :)

My favorite Chinese in Yolo county. Everything seems better quality and fresher, then the others. They always will make things spicier or less spicy on request, and they will add veggies to any dish. Everything I've had here is satisfying. I crave this place.

My family has been eating here ever since they opened and we LOVE the food. Everything we have ordered has been delicious. It is family owned and operated and they have always accommodated any special request that we had. Great customer service and the place is always clean, even the bathroom. ( When ever I see a restaurant with a bathroom that is sub-par, it always makes me what kind of condition the kitchen is in if they don't care what the bathroom looks like or it's cleanliness.) This is not the case at Wok of Flame. Wok of Flame has always been great and we always have left overs. =)

this is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants to go to in Davis. its on the expensive side, but you pay for the quality of the food and the service! but its affordable. They have good service and the place is really clean! They have 2 really cute waiters! =P They have some pretty good deals on their lunch specials and combination platters. $7 for their lunch specials which is served Mon to Sat from 12-3pm. $10-13 for their combination plate. Their portions are HUGE! It comes with soup too! so its worth it! I absolutely LOVE their hot and sour soup! its not too thick, the hot and sour taste is just right! i recommend getting the bowl ($5.95) instead of the cup ($1.95). it is absolutely delicious on a cold day or when you're feeling sick. i also tried their wonton soup. I don't recommend getting it there. its not their specialty. their dishes: - Mixed Vegetables - $7.95 -- stir-fried veggies, healthy and flavorful - Ma Po Tofu - $7.95 -- none of us really touched this. but i tried a little -- it was kinda spicy but not really. the tofu was very silky - pepper steak - $7.95 sliced beef was really tender and well marinated - Sze Chuan Scallops - $9.95- this plate was BOMB! HELLA DELICIOUS!! especially the sauce! spicy -- which reminded me of their hot and sour soup taste - Honey Walnut Shrimp - $11.95 - another BOMB ASS plate! this plate made me forget about all the calories in the dish! DELICIOUS!! - Salt and Pepper Chicken - $8.95 - it wasn't overly battered so it was good! chicken wasn't dry to the point it tasted like paper. but it GOOD!! overall, HIGHLY RECOMMEND Chinese restaurant in Davis on group outtings for family style!!

Why, Wok of Flame, are you on the other side of town, so very far, far, away :( But I gotta admit, if this place was any closer to my house, I think my body would hate me. The food is always fresh, tasty, and they have huge portions! I always have leftovers. I guess it's pricier than most Chinese food places, but I am more than willing to pay a little more for not-disgusting Chinese food! Hands down best Chinese food in Davis.

I got the honey walnut shrimp and it was around $10. I always get things to-go and it comes with some pretty great combinations of soup and appetizers. The food is pretty delicious, but the service is not so great. I would definitely recommend going to this place for take-out.

Let me tell you, this is the most authentic chinese restaurant you will find in Davis. This is how you can tell... you can hear the cooks in the back cussing (diew lay low mo) in chinese, talking about how much they lost in ma-jong or thunder valley or which horse race to buy... now that's true chinese cooks! And if I could of catch the cook with a cigarette in his mouth with hands on the frying wok tossing fried rice... that would of been the perfect picture of a REAL chinese restaurant...then I would of gave this a 5 star, I like it dirty ... this place is just too clean haha. Food was good.. they don't skimp you on meat, you know like other places where they only give you 3 strips of beef and 5 pounds of veggies. Their won-tons are meaty, fried chicken wings are big, the egg rolls with sweet & sour sauce must have crack in it, cause I'm hooked. Every dish came out in a good amount of portion, it won't make you feel like you got ripped-off. Ok I confess... I really only come here for the cute little asian boys that works there. Their service was rrreeeaallly nice. ***Off the record - one of you got my business card, call me lol.*** Oh god, I gotta stop being such a slut haha.

This place has great food for a great deal! You HAVE to try their Hot and Sour soup! They have great lunch specials, but even with regular priced items, you can leave with a full belly, leftovers, and just ~$10/person less in your pocket. I almost always have their lemon chicken. This place is usually not to busy because of the location, a bit far from downtown Davis, where most people tend to gravitate toward. But the drive to this place is worth it!

  • Max Z.

The BEST Chinese food in Davis, for sure! Their portions are large enough to satisfy two people, yet are cheap enough to without having to share. Personally my girlfriend and I always order a combination special and substitute the appetizer for another cup of soup. The only thing wrong with this restaurant is that it is on Mace Blvd, and not somewhere readily accessible by bike.

On our way to Tahoe, we decided to grab dinner somewhere in Davis. Reviews on Yelp were good for this place, so we showed up at 7:30pm, ready for a good Chinese meal. There was no wait, and we were quickly seated. The decor was traditional Chinese restaurant style, and there were flat screen TVs throughout playing sports. We started with two bowls of hot and sour soup, which was really good. We also ordered their spicy battered green beans and honey walnut prawns. Both were battered and deep fried, and tossed with sauce. I didn't really like it and I wasn't impressed, as I've had much better elsewhere... anywhere, really. The waitress said their honey walnut prawns were really good, so we trusted her. I ended up peeling off the batter from the prawns as they were too greasy. The green beans had a good taste, but they would do much better if they weren't battered and fried. We left feeling like we ate way too much grease, forgot how good the hot and sour soup was, and decided to go to In N Out for dinner the next time we head to Lake Tahoe.

One of the best chinese restaurants in Davis. The inside is very clean and spacious. Its also decorated nicely with a balance of light and dark tones. During the day, it's pretty well lit because of the huge windows at the front. At night, it takes on a more somber look. It's an excellent place to take a date at night because of the dim and relaxing atmosphere. You can order family style or combination plates. I usually go with the combination plates because the portions are big for the pricing. It comes with your choice of meat/vegetable, rice/chow mein, cheese wontons and soup. The combos are around $8-10, which is really good considering the load of food you get. The Lemon Pepper Chicken is good, but my favorite combination has to be Garlic Chicken with my choice of chow mein, cheese wontons and sweet & sour soup. ITS SO GOOD! Sometimes I'll get the fried rice, but last time it was kinda dry. The customer service is excellent. They're very nice and always check up on you. I always grade on how fast restaurants refill your water, and this place passes with flying colors. And truth be told, the food is more Chinese American but that doesn't take away from the great tasting dishes they serve!

Ok, so Wok of Flame is overpriced and they don't deliver. Technically that means they shouldn't be capable of earning more than 3 stars max. But this is Davis and there is plenty of cheap Chinese food to be had (and practically nobody delivers). Wok of Flame wins my business because it is just the best Chinese restaurant in Davis. It is the only place in town with a menu that is both varied and consistent. That being said, the location sucks - far from downtown and campus, and the lack of a delivery option really burns. So, as much as I would like to give Wok of Flame a better review, I can't in all honesty give more than 3 stars to a Chinese restaurant with a crap location that doesn't deliver and costs more than $10 per person.

Every time I have come here to eat, I have left satisfied. It may be a little bit more pricey than other Chinese restaurants but the ambiance and key word, cleanliness, make it worth it. I have been here on several occasions and the dish that I always order is their sizzling rice soup. It is full of vegetables and they are generous with the shrimp. It isn't bland and it just hits the spot if you want a nice and hot brothy soup. Other dishes that I have tired was the eggplant and tofu, hunan chicken, and general chicken, all which were prepared in a more healthy way than most Chinese restaurants. The staff is also very friendly and responsive and the food comes out quickly every time!

Very good Chinese food ( my favorites are general chicken and the sesame chicken ) for a decent price! Nothing fancy but very yummy if you need some Chinese food. I live on the opposite side of town and still come here often.

We're at the Wok of Flame for our first dining experience of the family road trip. We sat down at quarter to seven...ordered our food...half an hour later we had our order of pot stickers and we've been waiting ever since. The couple at the table next to us came in about ten minutes ago and they are already into their main course. The food was decent but I am disappointed with the service...errr...lack of.... I have been here a total of three times, the first time I was very pleased with everything good was good, wait was good, atmosphere was good. Second time I ordered take out... This is where it took a turn in the wrong direction. I was super excited to order from the dinner platters. I ordered the walnut shrimp my brother ordered generals chicken. They told me it would take about 45 minutes. We ended up waiting an hour and a half for our food. Once we got home I opened my take out box waiting to see those oh so tasty walnut shrimp and there were two orders of generals chicken... Not what I had ordered. It took them an hour and a half to get my order wrong! I couldn't believe it. I called back and told them, they said they would make my correct order. I drove my hungry self all the way back to the restaurant literally across town and got my food. They have me a full order of the crab rangoons and 20% off my next meal so I couldn't be too upset. Those rangoons are tasty! Got my food and it was delicious. I went there last night again and dined. Service is usually very good. Waiter was attentive and kind. Food took a while to come put but I didn't mind, gave me time to chat with my friend as we waited. Over all the food is really consistent and very good. I have found my new chinese restaurant in Davis since my old one went out of business. I will definitely return just with more time. I do recommend this place to anyone looking for good chinese in davis.

One word defines this place: Chinese American Restaurant. I came inside and immediately noticed there were no Chinese customers, bad sign. Service was prompt so we ordered family style. We ordered Wor Wonton Soup, Szechuan Crispy Chicken, Salt/Pepper Calamari, Kung Pao Tofu, and Eggplant in Szechuan Sauce. The Wor Wonton Soup was delicious. The wontons seemed fresh made and filled to the brim with pork. There was sliced pork, shrimp, and water chestnut in the soup. It was incredible. The Salt/Pepper Calamari were humongous and salty. It was all salt and no taste of pepper, causing dry mouth. The Szechuan Crispy Chicken was pathetic. It was fried with mixed vegetables. I was unable to taste anything good from the chicken plate due to the extra amount of oyster sauce on the food., it seemed as if this could have been a soup due to the amount of oyster sauce. The Kung Pao Tofu was nothing special too. There were too little tofu compared to the vegetables. Last but not least was the Szechuan Eggplant. This was good but nothing impressive. This was also layered with numerous amounts of oyster sauce, blah! The restaurant was overstated and was a major disappointment. The two stars were only for the Wor Wonton Soup and service.

Good but not great. Nice space inside, lots of tables, efficient service. The hot and sour soup was tasty but the orange chicken lunch combo I had was pretty middle of the road. A satisfying, if ultimately forgettable lunch. Nothing wrong with that I suppose.

Road trippin' & needed to stop for food! We eat vegetarian so I turned to Yelp 4 help! This place popped up, reviews sounded good so we picked this place. Pleasant surprise for a drop in.. Yummy! We had the salt & pepper crispy green beans and Kung pao type tofu(can't remember name). This place was clean, had good service & affordable. Bookmarked for future roadtrip pit stop:)

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Davis and I'm a pretty hard critic when it comes to Chinese food because my family owns a Chinese restaurant. It's a little Americanized but the food is really good and I enjoy the lunch special deals. I usually get the pork fried rice with the general chicken. The rice is flavorful and the chicken isn't too dry. The waiters are polite and they check up on you every now and then. I definitely recommend Wok of Flame to those who are looking for a cheap and filling meal.

I just took my family here since they were craving some Chinese food. They LOVED it. We came as a party of nine. We were seated right away but our food took FOREVER to come out (a big no no for a starving family). But once the food came out, my family fell in love. It was all extremely delicious. Let me tell you what we ordered: - wonton soup - hot & sour soup - house special chow fun - pork chow mein - teriyaki beef - kung pow chicken - kung pow tofu - broccoli w/ garlic sauce - honey walnut shrimp - shrimp & scallop in brown bean sauce I will forever love the house chow fun. My family loved it too. The workers are overall very nice. They had a lot of orders to take care of so I'm fine with the long wait. Cute server too, if you're into Asian guys. Anyways, I'll definitely come back again, maybe not SOON but I definitely will. By far, the BEST Chinese food you'll find in Davis. As for now, I'm experience a food coma coming on so it's time for a nap (:

Huge Fan of the Dumplings! I like that I can take my dogs for a walk down the street to their restaurant, order my food, wait outside and they make it in a quick and timely manner. It is always delicious when I make it home and dig in. If you can present a UCD ID card and mention YELP they will give you 10% OFF your order. Sweet!

I've never known a Chinese restaurant to cause cravings, but Wok of Flame has changed that. It's rarely that busy, and the service is usually really quick. It's in a shopping plaza so there's always parking. I figure people usually have their norms when they go to a Chinese restaurant, but if you haven't had the salt and pepper green beans, it's a must. Deep fried in batter, covered in salt, pepper and red pepper. The plates come large enough to feed two or three.

I needed a place to hang out while my car was being serviced (good old Honda University), and I came across this little gem. It's your standard Chinese American fare. Don't worry. This will not be your typical "IT'S NOT REAL CHINESE FOOD!!!!" rant. If you ever need a primer about what is Chinese American food, then check out The Fortune Cookie Chronicles by Jennifer 8 Lee. Yes, that's an 8 for a middle name. I digress.... I was actually really surprised by the attentive service at this location. Although I was reading and the constant interruptions were a little grating...I know what it would've been appreciated it during a different situation. They have fairly affordable lunch specials Monday to Saturday, which to a non-student to look at lunch special prices aimed at college students - makes for an incredibly good deal. The fried rice was tastu. Non-greasy but had that awesome chicken flavor you want from a chicken fried rice. I give them props for offering steamed veggies option instead of noodles. I must say that the sauce was a little overpowering in the general chicken. What does that mean? Well, if I was a judge on Iron Chef, I would always be the one who goes, "but I can't get enough of the flavor of the secret ingredient...being the chicken" In any case, it was a fairly pleasant experience.

Do not come here if you want a bonafide and authentic Chinese dinner. DO come here if you want to try the most delicious hot and sour soup known to man. My friends and I ordered honey walnut shrimp, lemon pepper chicken and beef with snow peas. All the dishes were very tasty but nothing too spectacular. My favorite was the honey walnut shrimp, but come on, a dish made with loads of honey and mayonnaise has got to be everyone's favorite. Before our dishes arrived we received complimentary beef sticks and deep fried vegetable rolls. To be honest, I liked the appetizers more than our main courses. The beef sticks come served on a really cute flaming vase contraption. The restaurant was filled with lot of white people. First indication that this isn't really a place to find "legit" Chinese food. But hey, the service is friendly and the food doesn't suck. This place gets a B- in my book.

since i'm korean, i dont know what good chinese food is.. but i DO know what tastes good and WOK OF FLAME TASTES GOOD! i remember getting beef with snow peas (i have a thing for snow peas..) and thinking it was delicious! my parents really liked it too!! and theyre picky koreans! but unfortunately they get 4 stars because my chinese friends say its not good chinese food. BUT HEY IF YOU'RE NOT CHINESE YOU'LL LIKE IT!

A little bit pricier then the other similar restaurants in Davis, but I think this place is the best Chinese restaurant in Davis. It's nice and clean and service is good. It tends to be less busy then places like Hunan because its tucked away on Mace. Food is your typical Americanized Chinese food. But they do it here pretty well. The lunch specials are the best in Davis as well.

Wokka flokka damn. Talk about food coma-inducing guilty pleasures. I describe this place to my friends as the "fancy Panda Express". Their food is very Americanized, as well as the atmosphere of the place, but it's still great. Keep in mind though, that my taste palette sometimes prefers Panda over legit Chinese food. Yes, this place is greasy. And it's kinda expensive. But then again, you're also paying for the environment and friendly service, unlike most Chinese restaurants. The lunch specials are great though. You get soup, two sides and a dish--the whole shabang. You can do the same for dinner except it'll be an average of $14ish~ per meal. My one recommendation for anyone who comes here is to get the salt and pepper spare ribs. Not the saucey ones, but the deep fried ones. You might feel like crap afterwards, but trust me you will not regret it. Most of the other dishes don't disappoint. 5 for fancy Panda.

  • Winnie T.

Food: I would choose Panda Express over this. The service was good, the food was not. My bf and I came here for lunch today because I was craving Chinese food. We both got our own Combination Platter which included a soup of choice (Wonton or sweet and sour soup), an appetizer (egg roll or cream cheese wonton), Accompanying course (pork fried rice, white rice, brown rice, or steamed vegetables), and the main course that determines the price. Ambiance: Spacious. Great for couples, groups, family to dine. Better than your average Chinese restaurants, but not fancy to the point where you have to dress up for it. More like Americanize Chinese. I chose the sweet and sour soup, egg roll (DO NOT DO IT. It was pretty awful), pork fried rice (hard rice, tasted like cardboard), and mongolian beef (tender!). Sigh. I was pretty sad of the quality of food I just consumed. Location: In the same plaza of the Nugget off Mace. Parking: Plentiful of free parking Overall: Tried it once, the food didn't keep me.

If you're looking here for more authentic cuisine like you would find in the Bay Area or L.A., then this may not be the best place for you. WOF is more akin to a mini PF Chang's, with a similar looking menu, but without the expensive and expansive décor. However, for the same/similar pricing, you'll find flavors similar to PF Chang, but with more generous portions that's expected in a college town. Service is courteous and prompt like no other Chinese restaurant in town, and the everyone is really friendly. The atmosphere is good for kids as we go there with our 3 year old. However for families dining with younger children, you may find it easier and a more pleasant experience if you go earlier, before 6 PM.

I've been getting food from the Wok of Flame many times over the years and I never had any issues with the quality of the food. Usually, I order takeout: walnut shrimp, mushroom chicken, and chicken chow mein. The food is plentiful and delicious. Pricing is a bit high, but worth it to us. I'd agree with other reviewers regarding "fancy Panda Express" but my kid is eating it, so I am happy.

Good stuff! Perhaps a bit over hyped. We will return to sample some more menu items. General Chicken was very good. Beijing Chicken was a bit too sweet. Overall both dishes felt like overly sauced and sweet americanized Chinese food. Large portions and the food was nice and temperature hot. Not very spicy. Hot a sour soup stood out. Cheese wontons did not. A step above your average Chinese restaurant. Service was good, despite being very busy. Clean and decent ambiance. Lots of menu choices and the combo deal is good. $13 on average for combo deals.

I'm not a huge Chinese food fan but this is my FAVORITE Chinese restaurant in all of Davis. The service is fast, the restaurant is clean, and the food is consistently good. I've ordered many things off the menu over the years and I have never came across something I didn't like. The portions are generous and well priced. I hope this place stays around for many more years to come.

Surprisingly good. I came here with a friend, and we treated the hot and sour soup, the Mongolian beef, the honey walnut, along with some steamed rice. The prices are fair. The ambiance isn't much to talk about, the wait staff is efficient, and the food is just right. It's not the kind of food that you'll remember and crave for days to come, but you won't have any complaints really. It's done just right. It just needs a little more love, or a little bit of magic to push the experience over the edge into extraordinary realms. Hah The hot and sour soup was mostly just sour soup. The steamed rice was steamed well, didn't have too much moisture, and was seasoned just right. The Mongolian beef served over crispy rice noodles, as it usually is, was tender, and the honey walnut shrimp, while slightly overcooked, was very nicely flavored. I will be back to try their other items on the menu.

This place has hands-down the best Chinese food in Davis. Their service is always excellent and the food is just as good. Try the salt-and-pepper chicken it is outstanding you won't be disappointed.

I'm Chinese and from San Francisco, so I've had more than my share of great Chinese food. The food here took me by surprise. It is definitely good enough to come back for and one of my favorite places to eat in Davis. Nice ambiance too. Clean. Nice TVs. Service sometimes can be a little slow though. The honey BBQ chicken wings here are amazing. Crispy, tender, and the sauce!! Yum. I'm a huge fan of the wonton soup. That homemade chicken broth makes all the difference. Other dishes, standard Americanized Chinese food. Orange shrimp is well made. One thing I don't like, how some dishes have what feels like random veggies, like in the Szechuan eggplant. Half of the dish was celery, onions, bamboo shoots, carrots, zucchini, and black fungus... Ingredients always fresh. I like how their food doesn't taste overly salty, greasy, or msg laden. 4 stars for what it is, Americanized Chinese food.

No it's not what I'd call authentic Chinese food. But as far as Americanized Chinese food goes, it's my favorite. Their selection of food is somewhat similar to all the other Chinese places in Davis but it tastes MUCH better. The service is also excellent. Everyone was very nice and attentive. The restaurant itself is spacious, not too quiet, and overall just nice. The portions are HUGE. I wanted to sample everything so I got an entree and a combination plate. So did my friend. We went home with 4 boxes of leftovers but we got to try a little bit of everything so I'm gonna go over each one below. 1) Hot and Sour Soup: LOVED it. Don't know what else I can say. It was great. 2) Fried Cream Cheese Wontons: Also great. Wonton skin is a bit thicker than normal but delicious. Don't know if I could order an entire appetizer size of it but they give you 2 pieces in the dinner combo. 3) Fried Spring Roll: Not a fan. The veggies were bland and the skin was just too thick, not flaky/crispy like an egg roll. 4) Moo shu pork: REALLY salty. Really good, but really salty... I ate 1.5 and took the rest home but since the pancake wrapping is so thin, they started falling apart in the restaurant. 5) Pork Fried Rice: Better than "typical" fried rice. It wasn't too dry and there was actual pork pieces in there. I wouldn't call it bland but its less flavorful than everything else we ordered (which in this case was good cause we needed something to balance out everything else). 6) Pork Chow Mein: Probably my favorite chow mein in Davis. I prefer thicker noodles and a chow mein that's a bit more moist. There's also nice large pieces of BBQ pork in there which is great. 7) Honey Walnut Shrimp: I'm not a fan of honey walnut shrimp but I had a random craving for it and ordered it anyway and honestly I liked it a lot. It wasn't too sweet, the sauce was good, and there wasn't too much batter. 8) Sweet and Sour Pork: I only had a bit of this so I don't remember it too well. I remember it not being too bad. My friend loved it. So as you can see, we were dying by the end of the meal. Way too much salt for one day. But it was really delicious and we will definitely be back.

We had an appointment in Davis later in the afternoon. We were headed back to Sac town and the traffic was at a standstill. We decided to get dinner instead of just sitting on the freeway ,it sounded like much more fun. We cruised around Mace Boulevard and found the wok of flame in a strip mall next to Nugget grocery store. We had our choice between Hunan, Japanese, or Mexican food. We didn't know what to expect and we're hoping for high heat wolked food that was high in the meat department. We are doing the Atkins diet so we're a little disappointed that the food was more carbs then we had hoped. The service was terrific and you got a lot of food for your money. Some other reviews thought it was like a mini PF Changs, and I would agree. We will definitely be back but will be ordering less carbs next time. Note I'm only giving four Stars for the confusion regarding the type of food from the name of the restaurant.

Honestly the best Chinese food I've ever had!. My husband agrees. Have eaten here twice now, once for lunch and once for dinner. Huge portions and the food comes out so hot and you can tell it is fresh!!! The atmosphere is great as well, so clean inside and that was important to us. We tried the fried rice, veggie chow mein, seafood delight, walnut prawns, sweet and sour soup, wonton soup and general chicken shared between us over two visits with lots of leftovers :)... All delicious and can't wait to go back and try more dishes. Priced well and great service. Can't say enough. Just take my word for it ;)

It has been a while since I've been to this restaurant but finally getting the chance to write this review. The food made me pretty sad and since then I've avoided Chinese food. It's actually not as good as Panda Express :( I think my bf and I only ate about 25% of our food. Overall: too much sauce, oily.

Best Chinese food around. I only wish I had found out sooner. Lots of veggie and tofu options. The General Tsuo's tofu is the bomb: fried crispy on the outside and soft inside, terrific flavor. I recommend the veggie chow fun too. Fast and friendly service.

I love my experience every time I come here. The atmosphere is polished and comfortable and the food is always tasty, with great portions. Staff is super friendly every single time. Only downside is that they charge for their rice--but at least there is the option for brown! My fave dish is beef egg foo young. Slightly on salty side, but oh so good. Their ma po tofu isn't really authentic--just saying. Great combo options for lunch and dinner. Their egg rolls are awesome! Went there last night again with friends. I found a big metal piece in my food, kind of like a long staple that was copper colored and stretched out. I didn't bite into it, but I did see it just in time before I picked it up with my fork. They said it might have been from the metal scrub brushes they use on their woks. I didn't give them a hard time--things happen. But if I had bitten into it I probably would have been a lot more upset. They comped my meal anyway. I'm grateful for that, and I'd still go back. :)

Literally, this place is a hidden gem in Davis. Out of like the four or five other Chinese restaurants I ate in Davis, Wok of Flame is easily tops them. Not only is it pretty cheap, but also their portions are huge and delicious. Wow I usually order the salt and pepper chicken combo but this time I ordered the garlic chicken combo with wonton soup, cream cheese wontons, and pork fried rice; their chow mein is too greasy for me. The chicken wasn't drowned in garlic sauce but evenly spread out and the chicken was still crunchy. Their cream cheese wontons are bomb, especially with their sweet and sour sauce. And all that together with the fried rice, best combo. But honestly, I come for their wonton soups. ;)

I came here with my wife the other day to (re)try Wok of Flame. Our first trip here was good, not great. I would say that they were in solid three star territory. However this past time the food was very delicious and the service was very good. My only gripe was that the fried rice was lacking egg, but I am sure that is because of the egg shortage that is occurring in the US right now due to bird flu. It's not that it didn't have egg, but it was essentially "essence of egg" (little bits, but nothing big). Chow fun with gravy was delicious and I would recommend it. Overall, it's probably one of the best Chinese places in Davis.

Oh my! This is the first Chinese restaurant that I believe to be delicious. The new item, udon noodle soup, was yummie. Every time I'd drink the noodle soup from other Chinese restaurants, it'd be bland or just plain . But this, it was good. Honey walnut shrimp and orange chicken?, the bomb! Not sure if it was called orange chicken, but the chicken was orange lol. The waiter , don't remember his name, but he's Asian and had spiked hair. He was really attentive and nice! His voice was really calming haha. I loved him! Kudos to you dude! . Atmosphere was nice, and the booths were clean too. Overall , love this place! After eat the meal, my friend and my boyfriend all said that the food was satisfying. It didn't even make us feel slow or heavy. All the foods felt light, flavorful, and fresh. Mmmmm.

Stopped with the family on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. No waiting for a table to fit 5. Karla our server was great!! Great smile, knowledgeable of the menu and options. Gave great suggestions for our lunch. Food was in large portions, drinks were refilled regularly. Came here from 30 minutes away. Definitely worth the drive and money.

Not a bad find... searched restaurants here on yelp on the way to Sacramento and decided to stop in. Not a busy spot on a Sunday which is a good thing-only if the food is good and it was. Had the pot stickers for an appetizer, seafood combo and war wonton soup for the main course. Our waitress was also very friendly, she did just enough so we could enjoy our lunch. Alot of times it's either too much or too little, she did great.

This is more of an upscale Chinese restaurant. The service was extremely friendly, even though my boyfriend and I only shared one dish. We ordered the combination platter with sweet and sour pork. The sides included a choice of soup, appetizer, and side. We chose the hot and sour soup, spring roll, and white rice. The sweet and sour pork was definitely fried fresh. It is unlike any other sweet and sour pork we have ever tried. The soup had a lot of ingredients but it was a little too peppery. The spring roll was different because it contained celery, but you could tell that they hand-wrap and fry their own spring rolls. Definitely recommend giving this place a try -- it is one of the better Chinese restaurants in Davis. They also offer Gunther's ice-cream!

One of the few places that caters well to college kids by opening late and offering a discount with proof of student ID. Service is really solid and quick for a Chinese place. The seating is very spacious and comfortable given all the booths, and entire interior is dimly lit, just how I like it. The dishes they serve are what you'd see at a typical chinese place (honey walnut prawns, kung pao chicken, sweet/sour pork). It's really just a better version of Americanized chinese food I usually order a combo of fried rice and 2 items. The salt/pepper chicken is one of my favorites. The food here isn't too oily, as expected at most Chinese restaurants, the portions are fair and the flavor was there but not too heavy.

Flavor explosion! This place is awesome! Make sure you get the combo platters..they are WINNING. Take out is available and is o-so good!

Probably the best Asian food I've had since moving to this area 15yrs ago. (San Francisco native we know good Chinese food) the decor is very modern the seating very comfortable. The food oh my delicious! The lemon chicken was the best I've had in a long time. The shrimp chow mein had generous size shrimp. Mongolian beef was delish. Will be back soon.

I mean it's Chinese food in the suburbs, so set expectations appropriately. That being said, this place is a solid, and the dinner special is a steal if you have a partner in crime.

Just had the BEST honey walnut shrimp I have ever had. Perfectly cooked and wonderfully sweet, almost like candied shrimp. The walnuts were wonderful, tasted honey and vanilla. We also had the mixed vegetables which were served in a white wine ginger sauce, very light and so good. Service at first was a little slow. No one at hostess desk, so we waited a bit to be seated. Host took us to our table, set the menus on the table and left. Waited a bit for server, but once we ordered he was attentive and very nice. We were seated in a comfortable booth, with a good view of TV screen to watch football. Overall, a great experience.

Wok of Flame is by far the best Chinese food place in Davis...and I'm not normally a fan of Chinese food. We ordered their Sesame Chicken (lightly battered and fried in a sweet and spicy sauce with whole peppers), Salt & Pepper Pork (battered and fried in a blend of just salt/pepper), and Salt & Pepper Asparagus (lightly battered and fried in some type of egg wash? and salt/pepper). Everything tasted really good and freshly made. The lunch specials came with an order of vegetable chow mein (not too greasy, had the right amount of soy sauce) and either steamed or fried rice. Believe it or not, but the first thing to run out was the asparagus! The co-workers couldn't believe something like a vegetable would be that good since it was the first time they've had it cooked this way. Definitely coming back again soon.

This is the best Chinese restaurant in Davis. The sizzling rice soup has a warm and smooth broth and the vegetables' tastes tingle with it. The fried rice is crispy and the vegetables are pretty soft.

This is one of the best authentic Chinese cuisines I've had in Davis! The cream cheese wontons appetizer is to die for. It has a nice crisp to it, melts into your mouth, and the sweet and sour sauce goes along well with it. I've also have tried their combination fried rice and chow mein which are delicious. I also love the Generals Chicken. It has a nice tangy, sweet taste to it. Lastly, you must give the hot and sour soup a try! It's not too sour, which is the way I like it. I will definitely be coming back again.

Hands down best Chinese food in Davis !!! Their lunch specials are such a deal with large portions! The restaurant is nice, quiet atmosphere. Have always had good service here. If your a student , you get a 10% discount when you show your ID.

The beef in the beef & scallop dish was utterly disgusting. The "crispy" chicken in the "crispy chicken in szechuan sauce" was not crispy at all. Extra $ for white rice? Please. There are much better Chinese restaurants around Davis. Will definitely not come back or recommend.

Great "American-Style" Chinese Food! Great portion sizes. The combination deal is the best. Definitely recommended!

Went here today. Food was surprisingly delicious! I agree with the other reviews that this is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Davis. Food: Delicious. Combination plates come with wonton soup or hot & sour soup, egg roll, choice of fried rice/chow mein/steamed rice, and your entree. Egg roll was different, but in a good way. Different wrapper. Not greasy by any means. Usually the chow mein is all oily; here, it looked like normal home-cooked chow mein. Large selection of food. Lunch specials had about 12 choices. Service: Fantastic; 100 times better than the others here (i.e. Silver Dragon and Hunan). Prompt. Didn't wait long. Waiter was really attentive... not to mention cute :D Price: Although it is a bit pricier, well worth it. For lunch combination plates: around $7-8. Dinner combo plates: $9-10. And just the entrees themselves: $9-12. Ambiance: CLEAN!! Really modern interior. May look small and not the nice on the outside, but really... once you step inside its totally different. Definitely a must go to if you're craving Chinese food. I'll definitely be back again.

I think that this place serves the best Chinese food in Davis. Hands down. The food is consistently good. I cannot recall a time when I was disappointed with the food or service and because of that, my husband and I use it as our go-to place for birthday dinners with friends. I really appreciate that they are flexible with their combo meals and allow you to substitute different entree items. I have to agree with other posts that their hot and sour soup is one of the best I've had. I hope that they plan on expanding to Woodland, but if not, I'm willing to travel back to Davis for their food.

Wowzahs ...was not expecting to find a restaurant this tasty in the Burger King strip mall! I went here with my family and we ordered the pan-fried chicken dumplings, veggie fried rice, chicken chow fun, crispy szechuan chicken, and salt and pepper green beans (hah, we have endless stomachs). Dumplings: pretty good, the shell fell apart easily but the taste was there. Could have been crispier. Fried rice: really good! Not greasy at all. Chow fun (dry): not extremely greasy, good amount of veggies and chicken Szechuan chicken: really nice. Not what I am accustomed to, but the chicken was tender, the sauce was flavorful, and lots of veggies on this as well. Salt & pepper green beans: OMG YOU MUST TRY! Salty, spicy, slightly fried goodness. P.S. the chili sauce on the table is superb! All of this plus 3 beers came to a total of $60 or so. Not too shabby! Plus, the service is great and you can always get a seat :D ...I'm goin' back FO sho.

There are plenty of Chinese restaurants in Davis to choose from, but Wok of Flame is by far the best! They have lunch specials just like every other restaurant in Davis & of all the times I went, it was not very busy! I only wish it wasn't so far from the campus. They can accommodate large parties too.

Pleasantly surprised w/ this place. I live right over the overpass and rarely frequent the plaza this place is in, unless it's for some Burger King (cries). I found this place on daviswiki.org , which is like the bible for UC Davis students. As I walked in, I was totally surprised w/ the decor! The servers are also extremely nice. I think this is family owned business, as well, which makes me like it even more. As for the food, it's actually pretty good. The best Honey Walnut Prawns I've had in Davis. This place doesn't compare to my hometown's Chinese food (I'm from Oakland, nothing compares to the food back home!), but for Davis it's pretty good. I will definitely be back. 5 Stars - "Woohoo! As good as it gets!"... yes, in Davis.

This is the best Chinese food in Davis. The service is ALWAYS solid. The food is ALWAYS hot. The restaurant is ALWAYS clean. Good selection of vegetarian items (they didn't have this when they first opened, now they do!) They will prepare pretty much anything you ask. I alter their menu all the time and they're happy to accommodate me. Killer veggie egg rolls and hot and sour soup. My wife loves the sesame chicken. Nice lunch specials too. The reason I give this place 5 stars instead of 4 is because the food in Davis is generally POOR. Check this place out. It's LEGIT!

Food is always decent, and service is fast and good. But.... how can any Chinese restaurant not have a Chinese menu in thus day and age? Gives you a sense of the food overall: heavily Americanized.

  • Jen S.

By Davis standards, this place deserves 5 stars. Tucked away in a strip center, the very clean and polished interior is pleasantly surprising. The Waiter was doting and attentive while I graded papers through lunch, and service was fast. Solid Chinese American food, easy on the MSG and grease, with good veggie options. I recommend it when you need your Chinese food fix!

I'm a fan of "Americanized" Chinese food and that's what you get here. The decor and ambiance may not be the strong points but it's cheap, fast and has convenient hours. Its also good for the non-college student too.

Wok of Flame is our favorite for Chinese cuisine in Davis. Excellent, attentive service, delicious, quality food, generous portions and reasonable pricing. Favorite dishes include: sizzling rice soup, chicken lettuce wraps, salt and pepper chicken with green beans, special chow fun (dry), Schezuan eggplant with pork, and honey walnut shrimp. We are long-time residents of Davis; and our family, friends and out-of-town guests all give Wok of Flame high marks! Food is fresh and never disappointing!

This is my favorite Chinese food in Davis. This chow mein is very good (my favorite dish here!). I really like the booths here, it is comfy and easy to chat with your group. The takeout is also very fast and has never messed up my order. This place is consistent and delicious.

  • Albert W.

Family run place. There are better quality Chinese places in Davis (Jade Garden) but this place gives you a lot of food for a really good price. You can't go wrong with the family meal and then changing 1 or 2 plates with something else. Service and ambiance was good.

Crazy Delicious!!! I wish I had found this place a long time ago, considering I drive by this exit four days a week. It isn't a place you can get to from campus quickly if you want a quick meal in between class, but if you want some good chinese food after you get done, check this place out. They have a couple of TV's in there that are usually playing games from the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL. They have pretty decent lunch specials (about 3 dollars less than the regular price), with lots of food. My favorite meal here so far is the Sweet & Sour Chicken and the Fried Rice. The chow mein is good too, but the fried rice is better. GO. Right Now!

    (5)
  • Tori B.

The food here is barely a step up from Panda Express. On the final occasion that I went there , there was a large party (obviously related to an employee who sat with them) that literally took over the place. Kids ran around like it was a gymnasium. That was the last straw for me.

The best Chinese food in Davis!! You will not be disappointed by their food and the service is wonderful. The staff is always so friendly and the environment is clean and welcoming. My boyfriend and I LOVE wok of flame. We usually split a plate, the portions are pretty large. And the hot and sour soup is to die for! best chinese food in davis i think. We just found out about the 10% student discount with id and will definitely be taking advantage of that on future visits.

I thought I wrote a review for this already. I came here about a month or two after it opened. I remember passing by the old restaurant on the way to Guads and wondered "omg, who eats here?". but not anymore. they did a great job updating the decor/atmosphere. the servers are really nice and attentive, although the three or four times I've been, there haven't been many people (which is sad because this place is good). It's nice and clean inside which already is a plus in my book. Now for the food. It's a bit pricier I think for the amount of food given. But the food is tasty. Their honey walnut prawns are gooood. Not covered in mayo (although, i love mayo) but for those of you who are health conscious, these honey walnut prawns are gooooood. Their eggrolls are different. they must use a different type of wrapper and add extra spices but they are Delicious. I think a lot of the dishes I've ordered have been fried, so I can't say much about their other dishes... next time... Pros: Clean, nice atmosphere. Good service. Good food. Parking. Cons: pricier/small portion size.

This place is so good and really reasonably priced for the quality of their food. My favorite there is the general's chicken and fried crab cheese wontons. Hometown has these dishes too but definitely doesn't compare to Wok of Flame. U pay for what u get and this is the best Chinese food in town. Also, they're suuuuuper clean. YUMMMMM!!!

I came to Wok of Flame with my cousin looking for some good food. I decided to come here from reading all the good reviews that other yelpers had written. Thanks for helping me find a new favorite in Davis! They have a great selection and great combination platters for a reasonable price. I ended up getting the Mongolian beef combo with pork chow mein and lobster rangoons and the wonton soup. To meeee the noodles were fantastic, some of the best I have had. The beef was packed with flavor with whole fried chiles. My cousin and I really enjoyed Wok of Flame because of the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant. The servers were very nice and didn't try to rush us even though we were the last ones to finish :-/ yeah it is a bit far and out of the way for the typical UCD student but it's definitely worth it.

Two words: lunch special. I had to go back the next day after the first time because the price is SO worth the food. They even give brown rice as an option and their fortune cookies are so ridiculous. I love them. My friend got "Proud to be an American" as one. The ambience of the restaurant is very nice, good service, and very clean. The Hot & Sour soup is not my cup of tea, but the food is SO GOOD and worth the wait. If you want some solid good tasty Chinese food, check out this place and have your taste buds and stomach be satisfied. It doesn't make you feel like poop after eating it too which is a step up from a lot of Chinese restaurants I've been to.

We were visiting Davis and looking for some of our old haunts -- this place we found by accident and it has really good Chinese food -- we ordered Mongolian Beef and General Chicken and they were both very good -- reminded us of the old "Orange Hut" Chinese resturant that used to be by campus and one of our favorites. They used a different banana shape serving dish that really allows you to toss the food to mix the sauces in -- top choice and reasonable. I do not understand some of the average reviews here -- maybe they just don't like Chinese food or else they work for the place accross the street.

yummy!! i had the lunch combo which came with brown rice, chow mein, and a vegetable stir fry all for $6.50. the chow mein noodles were really good and the vegetable stir fry had so many different vegetables that i felt like i was really getting my money's worth. as a vegetarian, i frequently feel ripped off that i'm paying nearly as much as a meat dish but getting much less substance but wok of flame impressed me with their vegetables- a feat not easily accomplished. my bf got chow mein, rice, and orange chicken for $7 and was very happy with his food. the lunch combos are well worth the money since my leftovers served as a second meal for me later. new favorite chinese food restaurant!

The service is friendly and prompt. The food is good and well priced. The tables are always clean. I enjoy the lunch specials and it is a fun evening out with friends. Yummy Chinese-American dining and affordable for family or students. I have never had a bad meal here and the Hot and Sour soup is very good. When I am sick I get the soup take-out for home.

We had: house special chow fun (wet) - kind of disappointed with the chow fun, because there was so many vegetables and not enough chow fun. I've had a lot better... orange chicken - best of all the dishes we had. crispy and not overpowering with sweetness or orange flavor. peking pork - crispy, but the sauce was too sweet for me. some eggplant dish - ok. nothing special. The food is Americanized, but I don't mind. I might give this place 4 stars since I hear they have some good walnut shrimp, but the only dish I'd go back for is the orange chicken so far. However, the staff is really nice. Excellent service.

From the outside it looks kinda small, but once you get inside it's very spacious and nice. Everything looks very clean, with all new furniture, you don't usually see that with most chinese places. The service was great, and the food was very good, the honey walnut prawns was my favorite. It wasn't drenched in mayonnaise, which some restaurants do. The Mongolian beef was also appetizing. I think we had the Szechuan chicken, and that was alright. Next time I'm going to try the Orange chicken, a friend said that one was good. 3 stars for the food. Add 1 for the cleanliness. I definitely will go here again.

One word. YUM! This is by far my favorite chinese restaurant in Davis. A little more expensive than the other chinese restaurants in Davis but the portions are a lot bigger. The restaurant is super clean and the service is great. Never did I ever have to wait to be seated. That doesn't mean the place isn't good but that it's just that spacious. Surprisingly even with their far location they still get a good amount of customers. Love this place!

I really enjoyed this place. They have a fantastic and varied menu. The vegetarian selection is quite good too if you swing that way. Our waiter was awesome and gave great service as well. Oh, and the food was yummy!

Drivin' around the plaza, I noticed this, what-looks-like, hole in the wall. life is all about risks, thus giving it a singular chance, my compadre and I walked inside to find surprisingly a nice, romantic, and calm kind of atmosphere. inside, we were immediately greeted by the friendly server, and directed to be seated. instead of eating inside, we took our order to go. we were on a mission to find the best chinese roast duck in davis; it was either that or beef and broccolli. at the wok of flame, we ordered the beef and broccolli. the meat was quite tender, soft to the bite, the sauce was sauteed nicely onto the mixture of crunchy broccolli and beef, and the rice was decent. The emphasis of this dish is the beef, which was very tasty and unlike that of other chinese restaurants; it was also very flavorful. I would have given this place 5 stars, however, because of the sauce constantly pooling to the bottom of the take-out box, leaving the meat sometimes dry, I could only give this 4 stars. definitely worth coming here for the broccoli and beef. i would recommend it to fellow yelpers :)

December 26, 2008. Christmas day was spent in snowy South Lake Tahoe, eating the traditional Christmas (Thanksgiving-redux) meal. This left my Jewish soul yearning for Chinese food. Upon reentering Davis, I promptly made a play to go have dinner at Shanghai Town, in my opinion the best Chinese restaurant in Davis. Unfortunately, ST was closed, an understandable eventuality of trying to eat out at Christmastime. Just then, I remembered that there was a Chinese restaurant in the Nugget/Guadalajara center in South Davis. A quick drive on 113/80 got us to Wok of Flame (As an aside, I'm not sure there is a combination of restaurants of the same genre that are further apart from each other in Davis than ST and WoF). All of this was to set the background for this review. Wok of Flame is very good. It's not great, but it is very good. What makes it so? They do American Chinese food well. Not too greasy, full of flavor, fresh-ish vegetables, nice cuts of meat. Kung pao shrimp and Chicken and Green beans (they were out of the requested eggplant, boo) in Szechuan sauce were both nice. I would certainly recommend this restaurant as an alternate choice to the downtown Chinese options. And if you live in El Macero - you are set. Wok of Flame played the part of Chinese food provider in my soul-search for Christmas Chinese food quite well. Next Christmas, who knows? Maybe Wok of Flame will be the destination, not the contingency plan.

It saddens me that I no longer attend UC Davis so now I am more than an hour away from this place, but every time I am in town, I HAVE TO HAVE TO HAVE TO stop by either this place, Taqueria Guadalajara, or Dos Coyotes. This is the best Chinese food I've ever had. Everything in this restaurant tastes so good, from the water, to the food, to the fortune cookies! If one day, this restaurant got busted for adding THC to their food, I would think to myself, "I knew they had to put something magical in there to make it so dang tasty." I would recommend their Salt n Pepper prawns (they make two versions; make sure you get the one with head, shell, and legs attached and not the battered shrimp ball version for meant for wussies.) Orange chicken, Honey walnut prawns, and Oriental bean curd if you wanna throw in a veggie dish. Service is always great and prices are decent for food quality and decor, unlike SOME asian spots that feel justified to charge you $18 a plate just because they bought some fancy square plates and hung up some random paintings.

Best Chinese food in Davis. Best Hot and Sour soup on the planet. Reasonably priced with excellent wait staff.

Delicious Chinese food! The decor inside is very nice, and the place is really pretty. Their Honey Walnut Shrimp is the best ever - it comes in a vanilla sauce and is to die for. Give it a go, for sure!

So good! I had the combo that had sweet and sour pork, chow mein, egg roll, and hot and sour soup. It was honestly the best Chinese I've had in a long time, and the best soup and egg roll I have ever had! And I ordered 2 of those combos for only $20. When I'm in Davis again this will be my place to go. Now I want hot and sour soup right now, hehe. Also very nice inside, good environment, good wait service, and the kids like the food too, always a plus

When we lived in Davis, we came here a few times a month, for quite a while, ever since they first opened their doors. The food was always high quality, the prices great, the service was always excellent, and it definitely has the nicest ambiance and decorations of anything else in Davis. It has several positive reviews on DavisWiki.org as well. It is a bit "out of the way" of most peoples comforts zone (being out towards Mace), but it's well worth it. I was in Davis for over four years, and things like Hunan may be more convenient, but their service is horrendous (and they go for quantity, not quality). Wok of Flame is absolutely worth the extra 5-10 minute drive. They also offer a discount if you flash your student id, which is nifty.

One of the better underrated Chinese joints in Davis. The food is good, the service is consistently spot on, and they cater well to large groups with amazing flexibility. Though i wish their lunch portions were a bit bigger, keep it up Wok of Flame!

The food here has the best chow fun and egg fooyun. The chow fun (dry, especially) has this soft, yet firm enough texture and the taste is delicious throughout. The beef in the beef chow fun is a little bit crispy but tender. I definitely get cravings for it from time to time. The egg fooyun is very different from what I usually have at other restaurants. It is very soft and the texture is amazing! My friends and I usually get the vegetable egg fooyun because the vegetables are always steamed perfectly with the eggs. The service is very good. The brothers who help out are very polite and friendly. I usually go during lunch time and the restaurant is pretty empty, so service is super fast. However, I've also gone a couple of times during dinner time, and even at its peak hours, we were always serviced at a timely matter. Food is a little bit on the pricier side, but seriously, for the cleanliness and the quality of food, the price is definitely worth it. Service 10/10 Atmosphere 9/10 Price 9/10 Food 10/10

Huge portions but the quality of the food is just okay. I ordered the Chow Fun with the wide noodles but probably should have ordered the chow mein. I also tried the garlic chicken and was unimpressed.

I live in South Davis and have been a fan ever since they opened. The two guys that run it are the best in service and attitude. The decor is really nice and the place is spotless. Above all else, the food is fantastic. Yes, Americanized Chinese, but guess what... you're in Davis... South Davis to be exact. What do you expect? Quality is sensational, very tasty, and again... it's the service and good food that will bring folks back. I'm a regular of their Sesame Chicken and the hot & sour soup is killer, even though I still add a wee bit of chili sauce to it. You can't go wrong and I can assure you that you can do much much worse.

Incredibly efficient, friendly and fast service makes the "always packed" little take-out extablishment hum with happy customers who keep coming back for the fine Chinese food that is always consistently great. I've never had a bad experience and all I see are happy faces in there.

Please tell me there's one Chinese restaurant in Sacramento as good as this one. The Salt & Pepper Chicken is the way to go if it's your first time and you don't mind it a bit spicy.

Have eaten here a couple of times, both were quite good. They have a nice selection of vegetarian dishes, pretty much all the popular non-veggie sauces with veggies and tofu-- which is prepared very well. The vegetables are also VERY fresh. Pretty reasonable too.

I've gone to Wok quite a few times now and I love their large portions. I like the various chicken dishes (tried quite a few of them... lemon chicken, orange, general...). I recommend the Egg Flower Soup for those that can't handle the hot and spicy. Clean and efficient service too =]

Wok of Flame is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Davis. You can argue that that isn't saying much, but read on. This place is unique for a Chinese or American-Chinese restaurant in that they have wonderful service. Their workers seem to enjoy having customers around, and you don't have to speak Chinese to get special attention. And their food is delicious! No dishes come drowning in sauce, and they're not too salty or sweet or greasy. I don't have any specific recommendation because everything that I've ordered were great!

located in the south davis nugget shopping center, this newly renovated restaurant (previously named Hong Kong Garden) has easily become my favorite chinese restaurant in davis. i used to recommend my friends to panda express (no shame) for their spicy eggplant. not so anymore. although you won't find it listed in the menu, the spicy eggplant dish can be found on their daily specials menu or you can request it. don't forget to add pork or beef if you're a meat lover like me. the restaurant is very spacious and is not your typical asian restaurant with budweiser posters of women in bikinis on the wall or worse yet, hanging calenders from several years ago that the manager had received from the chinese realtor in town. sidenote: isn't it frightening that the realtors always put pictures of themselves on their business cards looking like their 25 years old when in reality, they're actually around your grandma's age?! i digress. this restaurant is excellent. and they even have an excellent name to match it. it's also been said that the waiters are very handsome.... i guess you'll just have to go and see for yourself.

i do have to agree with everyone else. this has has the BEST HOT AND SOUR SOUP .. in davis at least. i don't know if this place ever gets busy, which is partly nice because you have the waiter's full attention, but at the same time, scares you a bit since .. no one wants to eat here. i'm rating this restaurant 4 stars only because of the hot and sour soup. the food overall was okay, nothing to get excited about it.

Excellent Chinese food! It is my takeout place of choice in Davis. It is not decorated as a typical Chinese restaurant, it is very nice and kind of trendy. I recommend the Sweet and Sour, lemon, or orange chicken. All are very good. My only complaint is that they tend to forget my side of steamed rice. Over all the food is great.

If you want good Chinese food this is the place to go. The price of the food was very good compared to other places and man the portions are a good amount. The General Chicken was really good. The rest of our food was also great. The service was really good. Forget those Chinese restaurants in downtown davis, Wok Of Flame is the place to be to get your stomach stuffed with great food.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
