There must be some mistake here...... I am the first person to review this always packed Johnny Rockets? This cute little 50's diner is located upstairs next to Sears at Sun Valley Mall. My little one had a kids rocket meal of grilled cheese with cheddar cheese and fries, I upgraded her drink to a kids Oreo shake. I had the BLT with out the bread toasted. You usually can't go wrong with a BLT but I forgot to ask about the lettuce selection, shredded lettuce doesn't work for me. It came with shredded lettuce which I took off and still enjoyed my B(minus the L)T. The food was good for mall food, service was nice, but the 4 stars comes from sitting next to all the mall foot traffic and noise.

I agree with Dona H. The menu has changed. No tuna melt no chili dog, no Johnny Rockets the way it used to be. Very disappoint about that, and not to mentioned the burgers are nothing to brag about either :-(

Johnny Rockets is as good as it gets! Been coming here for years, literally years. Since I was in middle school if not before (I'm now in my mid twenties) and I can say that it's still as good as it's always been. The most amazing part is the manager, has been the SAME, wait, read that again please, the SAME manager for the past 14 years. What do you think that says about the place he works for? He loves his job! And you would never guess he is the manager because he gets in the cook line and will fry the fries, make a salad, build a burger.. you name it! If something needs to be done, it's not beneath him to do it. All you folks that say this is a "disappointment" don't really know what Johnny Rockets is about. You are number one, paying for quality ingredients. Number two, paying for ENTERTAINMENT. Sit around for over an hour and hang out.. you'll notice the staff has choreographed dance routines. Now, where else have you been where that has happened I ask?!? I have never had a bad meal at this establishment. Never.. and I'm speaking on at least 15 years worth of coming here. I took a first timer here and to her surprise.. she had one of the best Philly Cheesestakes ever. So there, take it Yelp reviewers! Go here, you won't be disappointed. And remember, you are paying for QUALITY food and QUALITY entertainment.

I found myself at this particular Johnny Rockets during lunch yesterday. If you are hungry and the rest of your group is feeling Johnny Rockets... what can you do? Busy. Especially at lunch. I don't recommend waiting. Service is okay (2.5 stars), maybe. The burgers and fries are dry and tasteless (1 star), at most. The location is convenient. Who doesn't enjoy shopping? The concept is great. The food quality... not so much. I like the "idea" of Johnny Rockets and every once in a while I'll go along with the crowd and eat at one. Each time, disappointment. Overall... not really worth checking out. The other option is Red Robin... and I detest Red Robin. I'm thinking mall dining might not be for me.

Pretty decent food. Nothing out of this world or anything, but it filled my cute pregnant belly long enough until I got home and snacked on something else. The fries are pretty good compared to other equivalent places...I doubt I will be back in the next year or so, but in time I'm sure I'll grab some fries to go or something. BTW...the menu has the calories listed on it, which is why I stayed away from the milk shakes. I can't justify drinking 1500 calories in one sitting. Not including the food cals...

The boys always ask me to go because I had recently picked up a To go order there. I went in with the Fambam on a recent trip to the Mall and we decided to eat there. The staff was very Friendly and sat us quickly, We had ordered Kids burger, Hot dog, and I had a Mushroom Swiss burger. Sweet Potato Fries were my side and we also ordered a Strawberry malt to split, Both were very good and the atmosphere was fun. The staff danced for us for their Musical number and we had a good time cheering them on. The next time you are in the Mall and want a low key Family meal that's not too harsh on the wallet, come to Johnny Rockets for the Fabulous food, and entertainment. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the Sweet Potato fries are the Bomb digity!!

Prices went up with menu items gone for good. Friendly service can be spotty here but the kids liked the place so we stopped in. No more now that the dogs and melts are gone.

stopped here for lunch a few days ago during my break. I haven't been to this particular Johnny Rockets in years and thought I'd try it out. service was prompt, was initially worried no one would notice me since there was a "seat yourself" sign out and it was fairly busy inside, but I was spotted within a minute of sitting down. the waitress I got seemed either new or nervous, but she still did a good job of being both friendly and attentive. the bacon burger I got was tasty, but it was almost a struggle to eat since the burger was really slippery due to the lettuce and sauce. will come back soon!

I'm surprised at the reviews on here, I've had nothing but several amazing dining experiences here! The staff is always super friendly, service is fast, and the food always tastes perfect. I usually always order a Smokehouse Single with a side of onion rings. Delicious! I remember coming in one time with my bf, literally 5 minutes before closing and they were cleaning up already. We felt terrible, we didn't know! We had just gotten out of class and had a craving for burgers, and I had thought they closed at 11, not 9. Instead of telling us they were closing, they sat us down, took our orders and they gave us the same great service as always. I didn't feel a hint of annoyance for making them stay a little extra longer. (We made sure to leave a big tip!) Bottom Line: I love eating here (or getting it to go!) The food is great and the staff always seems to be in a great mood! Way to go!

Oh Johnny Rockets! I use to love this place when I was younger but their food tastes almost like Burger King's. I love their employees! They are so outgoing and very friendly. I love that almost all of them have a huge sense of humor and I love when they draw the happy face made out of ketchup on the paper plate. It's a good place if you want to spend a little bit extra money. Don't expect amazing food but it satisfies.

Service is good food hasn't changed still really good...fries are great. Always hot....have not seen the sing or dance not sure if they have done away with it..The reason for the 4 stars is seemed really rushed had to ask for a refill and some service.

Love the fact that they have sweet potato fries and healthier options such as turkey patty and whole wheat bun but... why was it that when I ordered the turkey burger, it didnt come with lettuce or tomato. weird. My son had grilled cheese and fries and it was a bit absurd that his sweet potato subsitution was $1 extra? Mine was only 25 cents extra. This place is pretty pricey to say the least. I would rather go to Red Robin to get endless fries at least to make up for the price of the burger. The shakes are pretty good though. Friendly service but the $24 dollar price tag on one adult meal and one kids meal was too much for me to handle going back for.

Our family went there most recently and were really disappointed. Usually the service is good, there are plenty of waiters/waitresses and the music is deligtful in the "outside" dining area (Sun Valley Mall) and the food-good. Well, there was only one person serving the entire "outside" on a FRIDAY night, the speakers were broken and the waiter told us JR doesn't seem to want to fix them, my hamburger was smothered with mustard so that I couldn't taste the other ingredients, plus the cost of just us three came to $45! On a smaller note, the 'happy face' they put on the plate with ketchup, didn't look happy. I don't know if Johnny Rockets is under new ownership, but it seemed the prices were increased with much less service and poor care of the diner on the part of the company itself. Again, we were highly disappointed.

I felt like having a Chocolate Malt Shake so I decided to check this place out. Its located in Sun Valley Mall so I didn't hold high expectations. To my surprise, the quality of service and food wasn't too bad. I ordered the 'Double Cheddar Bacon Burger' and Onion rings'. The burger was so large I didn't even finish it! It was nicely cooked and really juicy. The Onion rings were crisp and favorable! The Chocolate Malt Shake was good! My only complaint is that it was served in a small 'Johnny rockets' glass. Even the tin cup it was originally mixed in was small. Oh well. And why do the waiters draw a smiley face with the ketchup bottle in a bowl when you order a side of fries??? Not cute! haha

Had a chili burger with fries! Burger was fine and the chili was okay. Service was good, there were lots of people working here. When our food was brought to our table I thought it was cute how they squeezed us our ketchup (as a smiley face!). A friendly worker from China also helped show my dad a trick on how to get the ketchup out of the bottle (since he was having trouble!) Wouldn't mind returning. I'm not a big fan of the food but the atmosphere is fun. I like the 50s diner vibe and the music!!!! Nothing like listening to old hits from the Four Seasons.

This was my first time eating at Johnny Rockets (6/18). Good food (although chili fries were so-so; Chicken Philly sandwich good), 'to die for' shakes (Strawberry..Yum!) and cool atmosphere. Service was kinda slow, but offset by the friendly waitstaff.

Located at a shopping mall near the Sear's store. Ordered the smokehouse double burger for $9.50 and it comes with a small portion of french fries. I shared it with my partner and requested they cut it in half. It had onion rings; bacon, bbq sauce and I requested medium rare and it came well done, but it was still a good tasting burger. it was quite filling the half burger sandwich. My aunt ordered the original hamburger and substituted sweet potato fries for $7.50. It has chopped lettuce, relish, tomato and mayo and it was a good tasting burger too. The waiter was accommodating when we asked to share, but after we finished, we had not seen it again, until we flagged him down. I would go back for their hamburgers again.

Why can't I get a beer here? Jeez all I wanted was a burger and a beer, but alas, no. No such luck. But I'll forgive you Johnny Rockets, it's not your fault. I blame corporate. But anyways, after the epic shopping trip that took so many hours out of my life my friend and I unloaded our bags here to gain shopping fuel. It is self-seating, and has big plastic-y tables. The menu is basically standard American diner food (no beer) and sodas and milkshakes. I got tiny hot dogs and chicken tenders. It almost reaked of the excess sodium, but wasn't bad. It's just so standard. The next day they actually held up pretty well when I had them for lunch (leftovers FTW) but cmon, PLEASE bring in some beer.

Came here the other day and we were happy with our food, but waited around for 10 minutes for someone to pick up our tab. What was more annoying was the fact that the manager on duty, plus one of his servers were standing right next to us flirting with two girls that came in (and who obviously knew them). There was one guy doing all the work, but he got distracted as well by the socializing that we ended up fading in the background. What more was we were two of the three people, not including those girls sitting at the counter. This place may be getting better on their food, but man, get your act together.

Cinzia turned seven last Friday. She got to pick where we went to dinner. She picked Johnny Rockets. I didn't know she knew it existed. I've been trying to eat healthier lately and was surprised to find the Streamliner, a soy burger, on the menu. It comes with grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, pickle and mustard. It was okay, but I love me a good beef hamburger and am beginning to doubt I'll find a true substitute. I sniped some french fries (yeah, so much for healthy eating...) Again, they were ok, but I like them crispier. The fries come with a little side-bowl of ketchup squirted in the shape of a smiley-face. Cinzia and Reno both wanted Cookies n' Creme Shakes with their kids meals, and the menu said they could sub out a shake for the soda for an additional cost. But then the waiter said they can't do cookies n' creme in kids' sizes. Huh? Chocolate and Strawberry only for kids' size shakes. I still don't get it. The kids liked their hot dogs. They loved the shakes. The waiter was very kid-friendly and kept playing little jokes on them. I love when waiters acknowledge my kids as actual people. Counter seating, a couple booths inside the restaurant proper, and some tables open to the mall. I think the prices are a bit high for what you get.

This is not my first time to Johnny Rockets so I'm quite familiar with the 1950's diner experience with delicious shakes, burgers, and onion rings. The location is quite convenient and the food was very hot and delicious. We received good service from Daniel. We brought our Great Aunt from Singapore and she really enjoyed it! I can always count on good memories at a Johnny Rockets. Quick tip: bring lots and lots of nickels for the little juke box on your table.

Wow- I can't believe these not so good reviews?! My man and I just got home from the mall and ate here and were really impressed! First off, the staff was looking like they were having a blast there- they were all dancing together to the 60's music and just looked like they really liked their jobs! The food was good and came out quick. The chocolate shake was awesome too! And the price was pretty good for being in a mall. I'd definitely go back even if we weren't going shopping:) It was just a fun diner atmosphere with friendly people and quality affordable food! What's not to like?!

Fun place to eat, good prices and choice of foods for the kids. The funny part is watching them dance a few times an hour. They look so uncomfortable and embarrassed it makes it more funny to watch.

Bunch of thieves work here. Came in for a couple of sodas and gave the guy a $50.00. He gave us change for a $20.00. When we told him this was the wrong change he said you gave me a twenty and flashed a twenty at us and then said he hasn't even been in the drawer yet so there is no $50 in there. So if he hasn't been in the drawer yet how was he able to give us change? I plan to write the management and company about this.

my daughter thinks this is the perfect food place while shopping in the mall. It is kind of a fun place to visit I guess. The wait staff plays its role nicely with the theme all the way to dancing and singing to some old tunes. And the food? The burger is not even close to Digger's, but with plenty of ketchup, it was edible. The fries are ok. Our orange vanilla shake was delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and that helped me make my decision for the second star. I will go back if my daughter wants to eat there.

Here's a burger joint where carnivores and vegans can peacefully coexist at the same table and have a good time. Can you hear a remixed downtempo version of "Kumbaya" floating in the background...? OK SNAP!... unlike most burger places that have veggie burgers, the Streamliner here is vegan. Depending on the location, they'll even grill it separately from the meat. How cool is that? It's served with grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, pickle and mustard. Hands down, this is the best fastfood veggie burger around IMHO. The fries are vegan as well. Most omnis I know find the carnivore versions just as good. If you're vegan and don't mind the smell of grilling meat, or if you're a young straight-edge punk wannabe cruisin' the mall, check out the Streamliner. If I were a meat-eater, I'd rate this chain restaurant a 3 since there's probably some gourmet or hole-in-the-wall place that has better burgers. But for the vegheads out there, the tasty vegburger and the fact that they're aware that vegans exist, I'll give this joint a 4.

This is somewhat of a follow up of a post I made a few weeks ago. I actually called management to thank them for providing such wonderful service. The next time we came in they remembered us & our meal was complimentary. If you love shakes, you MUST try the apple shake. Sounds weird I know but they actually put a slice of apple pie a la mode and put it in the shake. Yummy bits of apple and to die for apple pie crumb in the mix. They also danced...which I loved because I got to pick up and have my 6 month old daughter dance with them!!! The staff loved it!!!!! I turned around and they were all clapping for me and my little girl!! Oops!! Sorry to steal the spotlight guys! Well they were cheering her on also!!! See you all again soon. Your apple pie shake is calling I don't care if my waistline pays the price!!! :-P

Yummy shakes :)the staff here do a dance for the customer's birthday! Cute huh? :) I think this beats SF's Johnny Rockets near Japan town. Staff is more alive and HAPPIER! They did a great job at greeting their customers and making sure that everything is okay. PLUS, they sang and dance happy birthday to a customer. It was so nice of them =) Sadly, SF's did not do the same for my cousin on her birthday -__- Oh well. But love love love this Johnny Rockets.

This johnny rockets is my favorite. Their food is always bomb and the milkshakes are amazing. They are very fast at taking your order and cooking the food. They even sometimes dance when they aren't too busy, which is pretty funny.

This is the saddest Johnny Rockets. Ever! Very slow service! You wonder if they're ignoring you or if they're very busy. But you look around and servers are seated by the bar! So... pfffft!

Located in the mall, convenient when shopping. Decor is old diner style, but bright red and white with lots of chrome. It can get crowded around lunch time, possible wait for an open table. Okay tasting burgers, they give unlimited refills on the shoestring fries, Yeah! A little on the pricey side for burgers, but they currently have lunch specials. Always friendly service, kinda slow at times though. Your waiter/waitress will make you their signature Happy Smiley Face with the ketchup on a cardboard dish. The staff gets up and does the JR dance every so often. We've always had a nice meal here. Good deal for all you can eat fries.

Had a quickie lunch yesterday with my daughter. Ordered a turkey burger and shared a order of fries. The fries came immediately, which I guess was OK since both of us were starving and inhaled. They give you these cutesy little bowls for ketchup, and make a smiley face with the ketchup to start you out. I'm sure the wait staff just love having to do this for adults.... Then our food came fairly quickly, though like I said we had gobbled up those fries which would have been nice to eat with my burger. But how can you let fries just sit and not be eaten while waiting for your food My turkey burger was OK, Ive had better. I did order grilled onions and they were great! So this made the burger much tastier. Now our waiter I wish I remember his name was fabulous, quick and courteous, and on the spot fulfilling our extra needs of mustard and ranch dressing. He even noticed my daughters name tag and asked if she worked at the mall, and I guess we got a small discount on the bill (but forgot to look). So that was a nice little extra. We were in and out of there at 1230 lunchtime really quickly. I'm usually not a mall dweller but since my daughter is stuck working at Macy's for one week I thought it be nice to catch up with her, and this worked out great to have a decent lunch without leaving. Food was decent and service was stellar!

I enjoy Johnny Rockets for the most part. The food is good, the portion sizes are good sized for the amount, the wait staff generally nice. The only real con is that they seem overwhelmed. Our waiter was very pleasant and courteous but as the order went through he had to come back to the table to double check on its accuracy. Then as the milkshakes came out, they were the wrong kind. My brother's hot dog came without any toppings despite being told twice for it to have everything on it. We asked for ranch and napkins and had to ask three times for them until they came. Now I don't attribute this to the server's quality as each time he asked a co-worker to help him that didn't, I attribute this more to the busy restaurant which was filled in both "inside" and "outside" seating. The restaurant seemed overwhelmed and being an afternoon on the weekend, it is only logical to assume it except apparently to the management staff who made the schedules and understaffed it. I would recommend it but I'd also recommend a good dose of patience as well.

The staff is really nice here. Food comes out quick. Decent prices. It's a winner to me. I've haven't had a problem with seating. I guess I come here when it's slow. Burgers are good and so are the onion rings but I've had better milkshakes. It can't beat an In-N-Out shake. I've eaten here a few times and I'll be back.

My sister and I went here a few months go to get some burgers for lunch and she ended up getting a raw hamburger. We told them and they replaced her meal and gave us a coupon for a free burger the next time we come. Today we went to use the coupon, and guess what? The hamburger was pink inside, AGAIN!! Do not go here! They do not cook their food all the way! I will never go here again.

Since there is no option for a half-star rating, I give Johnny Rockets 3 1/2 stars. The restaurant is located in a compact area of the 2nd floor of the Sun Valley Mall, so the seating is limited. You will notice the nostalgic feel of the 1950's. My fiancee and I waited for 10 minutes until we were able to seat ourselves. I ordered the "Original" with cheddar cheese and an order of chili fries. For my drink, I ordered the cherry coke soda pop, which was very sweet, yet refreshing. The burger was delicious, and it looked like the hamburger patty was handmade, which made it more appealing. The chili fries did not disappoint either. It may not rival the chili fries from Wienerschnitzel, but it is still a satisfying side dish. The service was excellent. Our waitress refilled our drinks when needed, and she constantly checked up on us. The main downside to this experience is the seating capacity. You can literally rub elbows with fellow hamburger aficionados. The outdoor seating area can get loud from the shoppers at the mall. Overall, the food is delicious (burgers) and the service is excellent. If you do not mind the cramped seating area, check this place out.

Sure, it's a chain and all--but it's a fun place with tasty, standard diner fare. Jukebox songs (at every table and along the counter) are only a nickel. Depending on what you order, it can come out to be a little pricey.

This Johnny Rockets is always immaculate.. has outdoor-inside mall seating. Good Malts, Decent hamburgers. Cinzia and Reno love the ketchup smileys. Touch pricey.

They've got a lovely cherry-coke float and the waiter always squeezes out my ketchup in a happy face. What more could you want? Oh, the food. Well, the food's sub-par but the burgers are big.

Not as good as my first experience, in San Francisco. Their fries and onion rings are good, as is their chili, but this time it tasted greasy and sunk to the bottom of my stomach like a big glop. I like the 50s decor (not unlike Red Robin).

We have been here many times and never had bad food before. It is a diner atmosphere, so no beer.. which some people have complained about on here. If you want a beer, go somewhere else, just like if you want chinese food.. go somewhere else. this is american diner food. Chocolate peanut butter milkshake is awesome.. they have good music, the kind where you can actually hear the words.. imagine that. I wish they were open for breakfast though.

I used to come here when was like 12 or 13. I forget. but back than they used to have outstanding customer service. the waiters and even the maneger would start a conversation with any one. to make the customers more confrtable, even when its very busy. and at times, for fun, the cooks and the waitors would start dancing to the song playing throught the speakers and have lots of fun. the food would come out really fast and fresh. but now that im 19, i went with my friends. the whole place is empty now. and the people working now seem very tierd. besides all of that the service is still cool and the food is the best.

I've been to several Johnny Rockets outlets that serve juicy, fresh burgers that I heartliy enjoy, so in a fit of craving, I searched out this outlet at Sun Valley Mall, and was consequently totally disappointed (and pretty disgusted) by the quality of the food. Onion rings and fries had been fried long ago and were served flabby and cool with a cup of ranch that had floaters of old, hardened dressing. My burger had been badly overcooked with incinerated crunchy bits to the meat, but was simultaneously luke warm, dry, and had congealed cheese that made the whole thing seem like it had been (over)cooked a half hour ago ago. Either way, I felt like I kept fishing creepy, inedible bits out of my mouth, or avoiding something that seemed gross and unfresh. At one point an employee with a bizarrely huge mane of fuzzy hair (sans hair net) hung out over the grill poking at the food and when I saw that she was the general manager, the inattention to basic food service rules all fell into place. Yikes, never again!

I swear it was so good, I told the chef I loved him The best thing I've ever had tbh. THE SMOKEHOUSE OR SOMETHING IS THE BEST. The first time I've ever had a hamburger where the hamburger legit looked like a hamburger. And they're all so nice :-) I love this place so much omg

Food was good. We had a Reeses milk shake, a burger, a chili dog, and a grilled cheese. There was two of us. Not three, or four, or ten. Two. We ate everything. It was delicious. You may be asking yourself: "But, Rich "Mister Insurance" P. why a three star review?" That's a great question, reader. A really great question. There's a good reason for it. 1. Service. It was slow. And when it came, it forgot pleasantries. I said "Hi, how are you." to which my response was? "Oreo Shake, got it." Way to assume the sale, but no. I wanted to be polite. It took my asking how the server was three times - three - before they understood what I was saying. Even the guy behind me knew what I was saying. 2. Music. This 50's diner themed restaurant has tablets to order music. No more, "Hey, let's put a quarter in the juke-box." Now it's done on an iPad. And the music selections, you might ask? Well, they're now playing Katy Perry, Hillary Duff, and Taylor Swift. When did any of those artists play music in the 50s? Let's stick to The Platters, The Monkeys, Aretha Franklin, and the like. 3. And this is really the big one - I can look past the first two - The manager. He was clearly upset/angry/flustered. I mean, I get what it's like to work with difficult people, but that's your job as the manager. You suck it up, and do the job with a smile on your face - while training these garbage employees how to do their job. It honestly stressed me out watching this guy. I wish I were joking, but it's really all I could think about while waiting/eating.

$15 dollars for a cheeseburger, onion rings and a coke? Look, I can get a cheese burger anywhere. I used to eat a JR's for the cute little juke boxes on the table and the wait staff would dance to the 50's music. But now the juke boxes have been replace with ipads! Massive fail! Why would I want to swipe my finger across some gooey communal ipad before eating my food. Keep it simple, JR. Keep it simple.

Wow, Johnny Rockets cashier (Benigno) tried to get away with incorrect change efforts, not once but twice. Happen today, while having lunch. I was sitting at the bar (near the front register) having my "original hamburger". Order was fine. As I complete my dining, A patron approached the register (to my right), asking for a menu for an order to go. The manager promptly gave a menu and the customer placed an order. Customer pays the cashier (my server) and within a few seconds, the customer says "I gave you a $20, you own me $10 more bucks" (in a loud manner). The cashier (Benigno - older latin worker) reviews his receipt, and gives the customer (young kid) his $10 worth of proper change. No questions, no apology. Shortly after, he got his order and left. Eavesdropping isn't a big thing for me, but when something shady is going on, you are on alert. So I am ready to check out, my tab was $12.71, I give a $20 bill (to the same cashier. He does his thing, and comes back with two $5s and and 71 cents. Doesn't take a math genius to know I was shorted. So I alerted himier ("Excuse me, you gave me only $10. 71, there is $2.00 still owed"). At first, he stands firm that the correct change was given, then looks at my receipt. Pops open the cash box and gives my $2. Again, no apology. It's pretty obvious that this man is intentionally shorting customers. Please be aware and keep an eye on your change. Hopefully this review will help being attention to this problem employee (hopefully its just him).

It has been at least 16 years since I've visited a Johnny Rockets. Nothing against the place. I've just never felt the desire to go there, until Saturday. Terri and I came here for lunch around noon. We took a seat at the counter and went through the menu. A fairly simple menu with a good range of options including a build your own burger. We both ordered Coke with a shot of cherry. Seriously the best cherry coke you will ever have. That shot of cherry added instead of already mixed in makes all the difference in the world. They have quite a good selection of sides from regular fries, to chili cheese fries. We were actually in the mood for onion rings so we went for a half and half plate. Half rings, half fries. Our server Ygnacio came over with the plate and two paper bowls on top. With a bottle of ketchup he drew smiley faces in both the bowls. The onion rings didn't have to much color to them which scared me at first, but man are they amazing. Both the fries and rings were straight out of the fryer, so they are super fresh and hot. I ordered the Houston burger, which has pepperjack cheese, jalapenos, and a special spicy sauce, as well as lettuce and tomato. Watching them cook the burgers is interesting. They start with a thick round of ground beef and sear it for a minute or so, then flatten the hell out of it with a spatula. I know the rule when making burgers is generally don't flatten the burger, but a place like this that's been doing it for years, I think it's OK. Plus the burger tasted pretty great anyways. The meat was good, but the real winner was the combination of the jalapenos, sauce and the burger itself. Just awesome, and very juicy to say the least. The food is one half of Johnny Rockets. The other half being the atmosphere. The place looks like a 50's diner, sounds like one with some great classics playing, and the staff are just amazing. I could hear Ygnacio humming and singing along to the music. I noticed another server talk with his customers in a manner that just screams 50's hospitality. Johnny Rockets isn't just about coming for a good burger. It's about coming for a good time, and that's what you get.

It's hard to remember a time before Johnny Rockets occupied that cozy corner of Sun Valley Mall! Just like that old mall though, Johnny and his cohorts can be counted on for a tasty and affordable meal every time. Not to mention a wonderful dose of 50s nostalgia, whether you were alive in the 50s or not. Modern times have creeped in (songs on the jukebox include Beach Boys or Bobby Darin AND Thomas Dolby or Cyndi Lauper), but they are still a welcoming diner with levels of service that more modern places could learn a lot from. I've been to this Johnny's a trillion times, and I am a slave to their chicken tenders. 5 tenders fried up perfectly, served with a side of ranch for dipping - absolute heaven, that meal is about as happy as my inner fat kid gets! Alongside an order of their Half Fries & Half Rings, pair it with a Cherry Coke - all is right with the world. Is there any problem a ketchup happy face can't solve? On my most recent visit, BF and I enjoyed an early lunch so we sat at the counter and received great attentive service from a couple of servers and I believe the manager. One of our servers looked like Captain America - young, blond, clean-cut with the nicest disposition I've ever heard out of a server, just TONS of friendly personality hellbent on hospitality. I wish I had gotten his name, this guy should be hosting seminars! We both noticed how CLEAN this joint is - the wall behind the stove and the tent above the flattop were sparkling clean. All the food prep was immaculate, and the main cook working the flattop wore gloves while handling raw meat - bravo! The whole staff here is a great team working in unison to finalize orders, and our food came out quickly and perfectly cooked. The onion rings left a bit of oil on their plate, though they didn't taste greasy at all. The only thing I missed? I do remember they used to hand you a few nickels when you placed your order to choose some songs on the little jukeboxes, but I suppose some traditions can't last forever. Tasty diner food, prepared simply and properly - I can't wait to see you next time!

This place is awesome, the burgers are big and have a great taste. I really liked how the waiter was checking on us every couple of minutes to make sure that everything was fine. They also cheer up the place by dancing to 50's music.

Food was good service ok...waiter friendly but food took a while it was 8 ish so towards end of night. They had ran out of ice tea server kept saying I will make you some I will make you some but never came back with any or even to check to see if we needed water....he looked like he had no help and was overwhelmed!! But i gotta say atleast he tried. I went to red robin first they basically told us that the rush had gotten their kitchen a mess and that it would take 45 minutes before they could feed us even though we would be seated so we left!

Never ever again. I used to come here when I was a kid so I decided to give it a shot because of nostalgia. The food was okay, but what turned me off the most was one of their employees who was obviously on their break, sitting at the end of the counter, PICKING HIS NOSE. Not once, not twice, but three times. He was excavating the combs of his nostrils in front of customers. I will never eat here again. I don't write reviews often, but this is something everyone needs to know about.

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat. Place was not crowded and opted for a counter seat. Was promptly greeted and given a menu. I've eaten at a few Johnny Rockets and their food is pretty much the same. What sets this one apart is the atmosphere. Despite being a chain restaurant located in a mall, it felt like an old school burger joint from the past. The staff was very friendly and seemed to know a lot of their customers and had a great vibe to my meal. I sat at the counter a but longer than usual just observing and enjoying the really great feeling to the place. The manager casually stopped by and and asked if I was enjoying everything and had a quick friendly conversation with me. It wasn't forced and it wasn't a planned round of hellos and such that managers tend to do at chain restaurants. It was a great fast meal at the mall. If I happen to be at Sun Valley mall again I will be sure to eat here again

  • R H.

Their new menu, along with their updated burgers, attempting to become more of a competitor for the new burger joints, is a real loser for me. As is the updated music selections. The new hamburger buns especially leave much to be desired. The service also has suffered greatly in the last year or so. They just don't seem to care as much. No smiles. This is no longer a fun place to go. I'll find my food elsewhere.

Food was ok but what impressed us most was the service! William you rocked the house! He was alone on the patio and the whole restaurant was obviously understaffed not to mention the fact that the mall is fixing it's food court so this is one of very few options. With all that being said William was still amazing!! Courteous friendly professional funny. I hope he realizes his potential and finds a restaurant he'd be more profitable at.

Wonderful customer service. Our waiter William was terrific. He was very courteous, prompt and friendly. Our food was brought out quickly and tasted fantastic. They also make the best shakes in my opinion. If you come here ask for William....you won't be disappointed.

Ok so this place has potential! I mean it's not a bad spot! The food here is decent but it could be better. The first time I came here the food was amazing the 2nd time I came here not so much. The customer service here is good , always making sure that your doing alright. Milkshakes here are also good. Seating in this place is interesting, if you have a stroller sit outside otherwise you can sit at the bar top or at the tiny tables on the side. They have a thing where you can choose music to play so that is cool but can get loud and annoying if you aren't in the mood to listen to it. If I am in the mall and in the mood for a burger - ill be here but if I had a choice I wouldn't choose to go here.

Last Sunday - was not only my first time dining at Johnny Rockets' but also my first time shopping at SunValley Mall. It was one of those days that I had skipped all my core meals of the day, and my sister had just got out of work - both hungry and not being familiar with the mall, we decided to land at the first eatery we see "within reach". The food was great - your typical fast food, yummy and juicy with a distinct signature taste of course. My sister and I pigged out and found our new burger-place we look forward going the next time we're in the area. I personally did not hesitate with my orders. I got the Houston Burger, the ingredients appealed, I ordered and was content: it was listed as spicy hamburger, which that alone did it for me with jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, and spicy sauce. The experience would not have been the same if it wasn't for our server - which is important to acknowledge as interactions and contact with people is said spaces/environment makes the experience memorable. I believe our server's name was Jessie or Freddy - it was his second day working. If it wasn't for his coworker coaching/shadowing him through "the steps" (which gave off obvious clues that he was indeed new) we would have not known. He had it all: hospitality, friendly, attentive, and warm that was true to his own self. You do not need a script to follow and embody to represent the place you are working for, because you can still be the voice of the place/company/firm you work for by being yourself - that way it doesn't look forced and Jessie/Freddy had it all and I thank him for that - he has all it takes to provide and deliver customer care and very GENUINE. Jessie/Freddy - thank you for making that awesome smily face with ketchup when you brought out my fries :). Worth the try - it's good to discover other places outside the other so called "norm" fast food chain-eateries that we see in most corners and TV commercials. It's refreshing to find something similar yet authentic in its name, and good!

I was so pumped about coming here .....but after about 20 minutes of waiting and not even getting drinks or even a menu for that matter actually we received no service at all people were coming in after us sitting all around us and getting served and nobody even bothered stopping to see if we had been waited on this to me is very very poor service

Full disclosure - I don't normally review chain restaurants, but I kept my receipt from last Saturday just because I wanted to review this place and give props to our server, Carlos. My friend and I were in a rush to go see our friend's orchestral piece performed at DVC, and Carlos made sure we were in 'n out, (I know... I think I'm sooo dreadfully clever), in about 20 minutes. I was definitely tempted to stay longer because of the great opportunity to watch all of the cooks and the waitstaff boppin' out to various songs from the 50's. So endearing! And you know what else was cute? The ketchup :) faces. The faces that I (very mistakenly) thought that Carlos had done just for my friend and I. I'm glad he doesn't Yelp because he'd absolutely howl over how hurt I am that we're not the only ones who get ketchup :) faces. And he'd totally chalk it up to some "complex" I have being the eldest sib and an only child for the first eight glorious years of my life. But I have no idea what he's talking about. And this isn't about that anyway. How could you do this to me, Carlos?! How?! I know you've been cheating on me with other Yelpers - jennifer m, GB, miss h.k., meg w., angela n., oliver d., TIM M., jack w., susan d., and larry g. just to name a few. All in all, if you're going here for a top-notch, gourmet experience... you're in the wrong place. If, however, you're already at the mall and would like to be surrounded by I-draw-ketchup-smiley-faces-for-everyone-so-you're-not-really-special servers, I mean... upbeat and attentive servers while you chow down on a decent burger and fries - this is totally your spot. Ordered: Chocolate Shake - 4.49 American Fries - 2.59 Rocket Single - 5.59 Having my fweelings hurt because of my "delusions of grandeur" and special-ness (I blame you, Mom and Dad!) - Priceless

Was at the mall with my fiance and my 12 month old daughter. We wanted a good place to get a quick bite where we could also sit down. When we walked in one of the employees told us to take a seat where we pleased. We sat down and the waiter passed our table probably 20 times. After about 10 minutes I decided to get up and grab us some menus. We decided what we wanted to eat and waited an extra 15-20 minutes waiting on him to come to our table. He looked straight at us multiple times. My daughter was getting fussy so we just decided to leave and go to red robin. Don't bother with this place if you're looking for good service...or any service at all.

Very good service and tasty food available here at a good price too. I didn't have very high expectations about going here but I was proven wrong. We ordered a grilled cheese and tuna melt and both sandwiches were delicious. I will definitely come here again if I am looking for a quick bite to eat whilst shopping at the mall.

Service is horrible. Came in on a Friday evening after some shopping, sat down and waited about 10min for menu's... Then another 10 min to have our order taken.. Then another 10 min to have our drinks brought out... And so on and so fourth.. The quality of the food was okay, not much to brag about. I ordered a shake for my son and myself to share, never came out.. I completely lost my appetite. Definitely wont be coming back.

Ive been to this jonhnny rockets location about 5 or 6 times. All the times I have been there they have been very great. My family and i have been severed and greeted friendly. However, this last time we went our expierence wasnt good. We waited about 50 minutes for our food to arrive, which was understandable because it was very busy. Our server (Blanka) gave us atitude, when we asked her for a dressing she constantly rolled her eyes, it seemed like she really didnt care about her customers. She didnt greet us, or make sure we have what we needed. However, when she took our order it was great she took it down perfect, and had no need for us to repeat it. The food was delicious as always, and my family loved it. I feel to make the restaurant better the servers can be more polite and greet customers with a smile atleast.

Worse tasting food ever and took more than 40mins for our food to come out. Ordered before half the people there and they get there food before us? My daughter didn't even touch her food it tasted so nasty. And 3 dollars for a small plate of fries?! I spent $40 on food that wasn't even eaten. I could of gone to claim jumper or fuds for better food and service. Need to get your kitchen and management in order. Never returning here ever!

Like Melissa N. from 2/4/12, I'm surprised at all the bad reviews for Johnny Rockets. This place is all about fun... If you come here looking for a gourmet dining experience, you'll be disappointed. Try The Counter if upscale is what you desire. J-R's is, after all, a 50's-style diner. And while the burgers may not be as good here as The Habit, they aren't bad at all. The servers at our Concord location are super friendly and fast, and this last time, the manager came to check on us TWICE. Come here early on Saturdays if you don't want to wait for a seat. And the mall "patio" is always great for people-watching. (Did some of these people stop to look in the mirror before they left home??) Onion rings, tons of ketchup for the fries, a delicious milkshake, and friendly servers dancing together to "Johnny Be Good" round out the Johnny Rockets experience. Just relax and have fun!
