Three cheese burger and garlic fries rock. Pick the joker and your entire meal is free.

Nice place, good location, very friendly staff, only reason i gave it 3 stars cause i have been here twice now and their food makes me horribly sick. I don't know what is in their hamburger but me and my friend both got burgers and within and hour both spent hours in the bathroom from getting sick. I came back on a seperate day hoping it was just a fluke day, sure enough got horribly sick again. Woudln't suggest the hamburger or hopefully they change something...

Tried the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich and Mac Puppies - loved them! On another trip I ordered a burger stuffed with mushrooms and pepper jack cheese; it was fantastic! So many good choices. And I love that they have healthy side dishes like fruit and veggies as an option on the kid's menu. My daughter ordered the chicken strips and said they were the best she'd ever had. :) The atmosphere was great. Skip himself was on hand to welcome us and make sure everything was OK - a great host. I love having an affordable family-owned restaurant in the neighborhood!

Best burger I've ever tasted. Skip is cool. The place is always packed. Worth the money and you will be back.

I think I'm hooked on Skip's. Went for the second time last night and got a burger w/mushrooms, no swiss, no bun. Had the sweet potato fries and a good glass of cab. YUM! I will be back, and really appreciate a place near my home that is not only good food, but it's offers paleo-friendly options, very nice service, better than average wine and is not overpriced to get all that great stuff!

Had the following: three cheese burger, MacNCheese balls, garlic parmesan fries. Would definitely return. Super friendly host and very clean establishment.

The food is pretty average, nothing fancy or spectacular but what is so-so there is made up for in personality. The owner and his wife are adorable and sweet as can be - I want to come back just to support them. My hubby and I split the steak sandwich and grilled cheese, tomato and basil sandwich. The grilled cheese was too easily something I could make at home - I wish the sourdough bread and cheeses used were a little more special or 'gourmet'. The steak sandwich was better but a little too forgettable. I appreciated the beer selection (Anderson Valley brewery in particular). These folks are really trying and I love to be in an establishment that wants my business. Being a neighborhood joint, I really want this place to step it up and survive because it fits the bill when I don't want to cook for the family and going out for under 50 bucks is possible for our family of four.

Went here cuz I saw an ad on Good Day Sacto. Arrived at lunch time, quite busy. Small dining area and it got very loud. I mean, REALLY LOUD! Ordered the Asian salad with chicken. I don't think I got the entire breast for almost $8.00. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being best, I give it a 5. Service ok. Never been a fan of "cafeteria style" type places.

We just left a birthday party and were starving so I clicked on the ever-handy Yelp to see what restaurants were around and Skip's stood out. What a great little place. Skip took our order and even offered to pay for our lunch if we drew a Joker out of a deck of cards. Alas, we drew the Ace. I had a cheddar bacon burger and the husband had a pastrami sammie. our food was really yummy and I would totally go back.

Great Burgers, Garlic Parmesan Fries and Macaroni Cheese Bites...I couldn't ask for more. They have several beer choices from Stella to Bud. Highly recommend Skip's Kitchen to anyone looking for a good place to eat with family and friends.

This promises to be the Vic's of Carmichael, for all you long time Sacramento residents. Minus the hotdog sandwich and homemade ice cream, of course. Still, it's family owned, as clean as my own kitchen and friendly, friendly, friendly. My wife ordered the grilled cheese and sweet potato fries. I had the meatball sandwich and criss-cut fries. It is a simple menu with something for everyone. Skip rolled in halfway through our dinner, checked the kitchen, then made the rounds shaking hands with friends, neighbors and even a local celebrity that will go unnamed. My only connection to the owners, is having had a daughter in Mrs. Wahl's 6th grade class at Del Dayo Elementary School in about 2005. This review is unsolicited and I hope happily received! Yeah local non-chain food joint! Had lunch there and would definitely go back. Clean atmosphere. Owner is super-friendly. The prices are decent, nice selection of beer on tap (pitchers in the future?), 2 flatscreens and optional outdoor seating. Real turkey in the sandwich, not the sliced crap that is full of binders.

Simply put, we love this place; its just the kind of cool litte neighborhood spot that we need in this part of town. Other folks must be thinking the same thing because the place is always full. Small and comfortable dining inside and there is outside dining right along El Camino...who would have thunk? So far the Asian chicken salad and the chicken strips get the thumbs up from our tasting team and we're excited to trying other specialties soon. The owner, Skip, is very nice, remembers many customers by name, and serves up a few choice draft beers. This place is definitely worth a visit.

This place has the best burgers, fries and staff. Wonderful!

This place was AWESOME! The service was something out of the 50's! The food was delicious and Skip was very friendly! Great Carmichael burger joint!

  • Devon B.

A friend recommended this place one night, specifically for the burgers. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. The burgers are actually seasoned, outside of the toppings. The staff are friendly, the food exceptional. The prices are a little high, but you kinda get over it when you see the options for side and toppings. Where else are you going to find a three cheese burger, including provolone, blue, and brie? With the options of sweet potato or criss-cut fries for no extra charge? Deal with it...it's only a couple of bucks more for a delicious meal from a fantastic local business. I hear good things about their onion rings too...can't wait to try them on my next visit!

  • Ed S.

We just got takeout, but the steak sandwich is awesome and the chicken sammy good too. Will write a full review when we dine in, but great tasting good and their update of the building looks like a nice improvement.

Skip is a gifted restauranteur with a heart of gold! The ambiance is welcoming and the staff is as friendly as the food is delicious. You WILL not find a better burger in this area and you can wash it down with stella on tap. BOOM!

Yummy food in the neighborhood ! Love supporting locally owned places. Skip & staff are great. Clean & fun for families.

This is in our neighborhood. Been in a few times. Love the burgers but the mini Wellington not so much. Also closed on Sundays.

I came here for the first time today and it was packed which means it must be good. The dining room is a little small but there is seating outside also. It would be nice if the outdoor patio had a cover and heaters so it can be used more during the cold winter months. The guy who took my order was also very nice. I had the buffalo chicken raviolis which were delicious. My boyfriend had the pastrami sandwich, which he said was good but sometimes the mustard was overpowering. Even though it took a little while for the food to come out, I didn't mind because that means the food is being made fresh. The prices are also pretty decent. We will definitely be going back to try some of the other items on the menu.

  • Marc S.

I am pretty certain that they will outgrow this small spot soon. Service and food are very good. We have been back many times, and waiting for a table is the only annoying thing i can think of . Well, maybe the crisscross fries need to be more crunchy.

  • Aaron H.

Went here today with a work group, and this is hands down one of the best burgers in the Sacramento area. Thick, juicy, seasoned, delicious. Ordered the garlic parmesan fries, and they were great. Top notch customer service--this is a fun place from the top down. Haven't stopped thinking about it since we ate, and I can't wait to go back and try something new.

Stopped in tonight hoping for a good burger and a good vibe. The wife and I were very happy with what we found. The place was clean and very inviting. The beer selection was good (would rate as great, but did not see a good amber when I went). The wife and I ordered a couple burgers, AWESOME!!. We will be back to try other menu items. Give it a try people, especially if you are local!! Keep up the good work Skip!!!

Took the kids for dinner, it was my twin girls 3rd birthday. Food was good and had a nice atmosphere and the kids loved the panko mac n cheese. Give this neighborhood place a try!

Nom nom nom this place is delicious. The place is modern but homey and cozy. The sweet potato fries are just beyond.

I had lunch with a friend and really enjoyed it. I had the Asian salad. It was a good portion and well worth the price. The cabbage was fresh and crisp, the wontons, mandarin oranges and nuts were a great combo, topped off by the Asian sesame dressing. My friend had the fried shrimp with dipping sauce. It reminded me of tempura, but had a beautiful "wrapping" around the shrimp that was fried to a golden brown. Both of us enjoyed the atmosphere. It was bright, neat and clean and great service. Something I had never seen was the gal at the front counter spreads a deck of cards and asks us to pick one. if it's an ace, your meal is free. If not, it's the number you display at your table for your server. We enjoyed our time there and plan to go back to try all the great gourmet menu items they have.

First time visit with the wife. She ordered the meatball sandwiches, hot, flavorful with a great sweet potato fries. I tried the pastrami that came with pepper jack cheese, onions along with the waffle fries. Hot and tasty. The food is prepared with care and served by friendly staff. The place was packed on a rainy Wednesday night. We chatted with Skip, let him know he has a winning formula and the girl taking the orders at the tablet register is doing a great job. We will be back to try other menu choices.

Skip's is literally a few blocks from my house, and I was pretty excited to see what they had to offer based on the crowds I have noticed there since the opening. I must temper my review based on the fact that I ordered take-out, and take-out never really represents a restaurant fully. My first issue with this place, it took three phone calls before I could get a live person to take my order...understanding that it is a brand new restaurant, and they were slammed when my wife picked up the order. My wife also had to wait an additional 15 minutes from when the restaurant said the order would be ready. The food on the other hand was really a great value and pretty delicious. Ordered the Asian salad, the chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. Asian salad was great, fries were nice and crispy, and the sandwich was really flavorful little soggy due to the take-out (can't blame skips). Would have been a 4-5 star had the phone been answered and the service been more prompt. Skip, keep the food quality up and hire some additional staff and you have a winner. I will be back to dine-in based on the quality and value of food. I hope you get these service issues worked out, but I understand it is pretty typical of a new restaurant.

I had the grilled cheese sandwich and rosemary sweet potato fries - fabulous! My hubby's pastrami sandwich was great too! The owner, Skip, is so personable and enthusiastic! Try it, you won't be disappointed. And they do serve beer and wine.

Stopped in after seeing the place fairly busy since opening. My wife and son wanted a good burger and we usually head to some fancier locations to indulge. We were amazed. Skip's is a new favorite from the first visit. We all ordered different burgers and loved them. I already planned out my next few visits. We saw buffalo chicken ravioli on the menu. Yum. We also saw someone order an awesome looking meatball sandwich. Wow. All in all, fast service, owner that calls you by your name on the first visit and a staff that makes you feel like home.

This is the perfect new place for this neighborhood! My wife's office is very close to Skip's so we go there quite often. Skip is a great guy, the employees are always very courteous and glad to take care of us. The food is always awesome. There can't be enough good things said about Skip's....give it a try!

Wife and I ate lunch here on a whim and were so pleased with the experience we left looking forward to the next visit and planning what to have next time around. We shared the "Heap" salad and a steak sandwich. Whereas another reviewer here commented on the steak being sliced too thinly, I consider this to be a serious plus. The skirt steak was marinated (aka tenderized) and sliced on a bias against the grain. The result was a steak sandwich that did't have me feeling like a rottweiler tearing at a hoagie. Ease of edibility is important. Also, the sauce was delicious. The salad was delicious and full of smoky bacon and tart dried cranberries. It was like an excellent and tasty version of a salad you might make for a summer cookout.. Returning tomorrow with my mom to try the burger and whatever fits her fancy. Will append this review after lunch.

Had a great experience eating lunch here for the first time. Skip took our order and was very eager please, which is rarely seen these days. I enjoy a good veggie burger but usually the ones offered at restaurants are commercially produced. They make their own veggie burger and it was moist and tasty. I also had their sweet potato fries and they did not disappoint...I would recommend this restaurant and look forward to eating here again.

Stuffed burger was AMAZING! I had mushrooms and bacon in mine - YUM. Next time I will be ordering the pastrami sandwich - looked so good. My daughter had the chicken strips and I kept taking bites of hers because I liked them so much (usually never tempted to do that). The building looks fantastic (inside and out), and is a great addition to the neighborhood. Skip, the owner, is a great host. You can tell he really loves what he is doing. We will definitely be regulars!

Hands down best food, best prices and the best service. Skip and the staff are excellent. I continue to go there and everytime I'm impressed.

Went here for lunch today. The food was great, but what was really excellent was the customer service. We were greeted and served by Skip and the other servers were very friendly. I had the Asian Salad with Chicken and it was very flavorful and well made. Overall, I would go back here again in a heartbeat!

Great food; awesome setup! Tried the pastrami sandwich and criss cut fries-the best!

  • Kyle B.

Some of the best food in town. Counter game is a good gimmick to make your day. Have only tried 5 or 6 items which were all grate. Family loved it also, have to mention it is busy at times. I have seen the line go outside more than once but the food is worth it.

  • M G.

Food was bland. Had turkey sandwich and butternut squash soup, both lacked flavor. Disappointed.

  • Kelly G.

WOW!!! First lets just say, Skip...is a miracle. Hardest working man in the burger biz! The steak sand is to DIE for, seriously.. tender, cooked perfectly, and no grizzle or fat DELICIOUS!! Hubby loved his 3 cheese burger. Fries on the underdone side for me and the wings are nothing special...sorry :( I would go weekly for the steak sand alone.. Fantastic!!! Sat @ lunch hour, be prepared to wait a little..place is jumpin!

  • Allie D.

I just tried Skip's for the first time last night and it was delish! I ordered the mushroom and swiss burger and it was one of the juiciest burgers I've ever had. They didn't skimp on the mushroom or cheese either. I was surprised to see that Skip's has a pretty good beer selection for a little neighborhood burger/sandwich joint. The honey blonde was really good. Service was super friendly and quick. I wish they would get a little more adventurous with their burger options, but I'll be back for sure!

  • Adam S.

I was super impressed by everything. It's an awesome neighborhood restaurant. Both the food and service are miles ahead the rest. The food tastes awesome and is presented perfectly. With the great service from Skip and his staff, it can't get any better. You definitely have to check it out if you're in Sacramento.

What is there not to like about Skip's Kitchen? It's small, it's personable, and they consistently serve good food paired with some of the best hospitality I've found and from my few visits, Skip himself seems to be the nucleus behind all of this. A lot of namesake places leave me wondering who, what, where, when and why, but as soon as you meet Skip you immediately know who he is and what he's all about. Hard work, superior food and exemplary customer service and if you're one of the lucky ones to pull a Joker from the deck of cards he lays out before you pay, dinner is on him. The Misses and I stopped in on a busy Saturday night and luckily caught one of the few empty tables as folks continued to pour in behind us throughout our entire visit. Skip quickly took our order on the second register and immediately made us feel welcomed with his truly unique and genuine passion for making his customers feel welcomed and comfortable. For me, it was a burger (shocker, I know) - the Bacon Cheddar burger medium rare, add pastrami. And yet another burger from Skip's that didn't disappoint. A thick and juicy, hand-formed patty of quality ground sirloin & chuck with chunks (yes chunks, not slices) of cherry wood smoked bacon, delicious pastrami and cheddar cheese, all between a soft and fluffy Brioche bun and cooked precisely as requested - medium rare. The garlic and Parmesan dusted criss- cut fries I upgraded to were just as good. The service? Stellar. They offer a self-serve soda fountain but don't be surprised if Skip is grabbing your cup and getting your refills for you as he's making his rounds and engaging conversation. Skip's Kitchen is a neighborhood gem and something that seems a bit hard to come by these days. It focuses on excellent customer service and let's the food speak loud and clear for itself. Skip seems to be proud of what he stands for and what he's doing and he should be because there aren't enough places like his. Bottom line, we need more places like Skip's. Great quality food with feel-good service. Burger Pic- yelp.com/biz_photos/skip…

I finally made it to Skip's after eyeing and wanting to try it for months. I ordered online but when I arrived they didn't receive my order. It was okay. It was probably my fault for not completing my transaction online. Anyhow, it all worked out because they processed my order and got me in and out within 10 mins or less. Or so it seemed like it was that fast. I ordered the WesternBurger which was delicious. I had it cooked medium which it was. It was juicy and greasy just like I like it. There was a lot of bacon not just 1or 2 slices like Carl's Jr. The burger itself was about the size of 2 patties. It was fresh and hand made not the frozen type which I appreciate from a restaurant that isn't a chain. The owner and employees were very courteous and nice. They apologized for my order not going through online and even gave my a cup so I can something to drink while I waited. The criss-cut fries were just ok. With some seasoning they would've been perfect. Overall they won my business even though I didn't win at their restaurant with a JOKER! Maybe next time. I've told a bunch of coworkers about Skip's Kitchen and it sounds like they will be in soon to try! Keep up the good work!

You have to be picky not to give this place 5 stars. Great relaxed atmosphere. Clean Dining area. Friendly Staff and Great food. Had the Chipotle Pesto Chicken Sandwhich with Criss-Cutt fries. Delicious. Plus, you pick a card to win your meal for free! It's fun even if you don't win.

I had been bugging my husband for awhile about trying this place so we stopped in for dinner while his parents were in town. YUM. I had the pastrami sandwich and it was DE-LISH! One of the top 5 pastrami sandwiches I've ever had. Maybe even top three. The guys had burgers and Ma had the chicken salad. Everyone thought everything was really, really good. My husband is always annoyed by underseasoned/bland food, and he thought his burger was well seasoned and tasty. We will be back for sure. Minus one star because it is rather small inside and the way they have the tables/chairs makes it a pain to get around. Ma and I sat on the isle side and constantly had to scoot in or get bumped by people trying to exit the place. Outside of adding on though, I don't see what can be done about it. Next time we will probably order to go since we don't live very far away. Also, we went during the dreadful heatwave and their a/c had trouble keeping up with the heat so it was a bit too warm inside. Their saving grace on the heat issue is that our beers were served in icy cold glasses. I suspect on normal temperature days it would be just fine inside. Overall great service and excellent food. The fries and O-rings were great too, and I can't wait to try the grilled cheese. I would highly recommend this place.

  • Sarah H.

This place reminds me of Burgers and Brew but smaller (felt like a sardine packed in this tiny place) with actually good tasting burgers and more pricey. Its rather small and loud inside, had problems navigating through rude people creating fire hazards by having their chair all the way out. As for the food really good, my friend substituted the criss-cut fries for the rosemary sweet potato ones, which was a mistake. The fries were a bit on the cold side, but that could a been because it took me awhile to even figure out how to eat my massive western burger with avocado and sauteed mushrooms. The burger was delicious and not over greasy like most burgers I had. My friend had a 3 cheese burgers on the veggie patty, which he said was nothing special and dry. This place is good, but for the price and lack of comfort, I wouldn't go out of my way to come back.

I found Skip's about a year ago. However, I discovered him a little bit differently, I found Skip's has an order your food online option, you can order before the store opens. Pick the time to pick your food up, and it's always ready exactly when I asked for it to be ready. My favorite is the Heap Salad. But my family loves all the burgers, sandwiches and the waffle fries. Skip is personable and attentive. His staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Everytime I've gone in , his restaurant is busy. But, no one seems to mind. Even the people in line, waiting to order, will tell you the wait is worth the quality food being preared and served. This is my go take out food store.

Friendly neighborhood feel with probably one of the best hamburgers in town. Complimented by cross cross fries, sweet potato fries or my personal favorite garlic Parmesan criss cross fries. These are other items on the menu that I want to try but I love the hamburger too much to order something else.

Another visit to Skip's. I'd like to try some different menu items but can't get beyond the great burgers he serves! Granddaughter gas chipoltle pesto chicken sandwich and her husband has the steak sandwich, both saying they were great and would have then again. Great granddaughter had chicken strips with house made ranch dressing for dipping and liked the ranch dressing so much that we saw her drink it out of the cup! Skip, why don't you move closer to where I live? You really can't go wrong at Skip's...

  • John N.

Thanks for the prompt reply Skip. That goes a long way with me! I will definitely give you another shot because of that. And thank you for your offer of a free burger. No need! You are trying to make an honest living too and let's put it this way. The burgers got eaten so it's not like I had to throw it away. Thanks again Skip and I will be in there again one day!

Nice place to grab a burger. I like the simple but open layout with 2 tv's. I ordered the Bbq burger. Ill start great size patty and texture-grind of meat. The bun was lack luster and dense. The onion ring and produce was top notch even though a bit skimpy. The downfall, the crisscut fries were cold and lacking seasoning. The kitchen also has a problem reading tickets. Bbq was supposed to be on side and was on the burger. No biggie, the sauce was actually thin and full of flavor not goopy and over-powering like so many other places. Overall great burger and I'll be back eventually, hoping for hot flavourful fries.

Wow! I have been visiting my mother in Sacramento for the week and got fed up with "fast casual" restaurants that serve luke warm flavorless food. Really, it makes you feel like crap and is no bargain in any sense. So, I insisted we go to somewhere normal. "Oh." she says. "I know where that is! Mom is 81, so, well, you never know what normal yur gonna get. After a few u-turns and one wrong street, we pull into Skips. Hey, look at that -- a normal mom and pop restaurant with normal decor, normal tables and menu you actually have to read because you have not seen it before a million times. Sandwiches, salads, burgers, apps, beer on tap, and wine. Could be good, could be bad. At Skips you place your order up front at the kitchen, and they bring your food to the table. So, we asked the hostess/ order taker what's good. She took a lot of time answering my mom's questions, and made some personal suggestions. There are only two dozen plates on the menu, but she nicely helped us get focused. Turkey sandwich for mom, pastrami for me, water and iced tea. Five minutes later, there's the baskets, put down happily by the owner, who asked us if we had what we needed. Out of the blue, mom asks for wine. At 11:30 am on a Monday. Go figure. Mr. Skips suggested a fruity Pinot Grigio, and brought it to the table in a Snap. Five stars for this: 1. perfectly delicious hand made / home made food at a fair price. 2. None of the rigmarole delays and expense of trying to sit down to waiter service over a quick cheap lunch. 3. But, none of the humiliating and dehumanizing fast food / fast casual ritual of lining up to buy crap food with crap add-ons can carrying it out to a Formica table with a chair that is bolted to the floor. What, someone is going to steal your chairs? 4. SO NICE that they have the ability to greet everyone, and bring a glass of wine to an old lady having a bad day without making her (or me) get up and walk to the hostess lady and order again. It's a small kindness that they have built into their business, and it made a huge difference to my mom. 5. They stick to what they can do well, for a good price, and don't try to hustle anyone. Lunch and Dinner, have a drink, relax and feel welcomed, stay as long as you want. Leave happy. And this from a guy who hates everything. Must be going soft in my old age. Thanks, SKIPS!

The location is kinda odd, and there isn't much parking. A friend told me about the card game where you get a free meal if you pull the Joker out of the deck. He was stoked because on his first visit he got lucky and did exactly that. Free meal. When I went my gamble didn't pay off. Whatever. It's a fun gimmick. The food is, well it's good, but not god tier, and for what you pay for the portions of one meal may leave you hungry. I suggest ordering any of their specialty sides or fries at an additional cost. Special wise this place has an awesome ice cream cookie sandwich. Very uniquely crafted, and tasty. But again you must pay a decent amount for the item. Skip's is a decent joint, and it's usually busy. Be prepared to spend over $10 to be truly satisfied. The owner himself is usually there which is a bonus.

Awesome! Had dinner with my family and we were all happy! Food so good we were too full for ice cream! Skip is right there, funny as can be! Love the card draw! Thanks! We're coming back!

Great food! Great service! I was blown away that the yelp reviews and pictures were spot on for this place. It's a small little spot, that you could easily dive by and miss. But, you'd be doing a disservice to your taste buds if you did. My boyfriend and I went yesterday and loved the entire experience. As soon as we walked in the manager noticed my boyfriends Red Sox cap and told him he'd turn the game on when it started. That's amazing customer service right there! Then we ordered the buffalo chicken raviolis, BOM sliders and 3 cheese burger. My boyfriend is super picky and he loved the burger...he was even still talking about it this morning. If our plans didn't hold us up, we would have gone back for dinner too! I loved my sliders and the sweet potato and criss cut fries were on point. We cannot wait to go back! I cannot stress how good the food was, but even more impressive was their customer service. The manager came and chatted with us at our table and really seems passionate about making good food and ensuring his customers have a great dining experience. Please support this place, you will not be disappointed!

I like everything they have done with this restaurant. The food is high quality and presented in a typical burgers and fries fashion. I felt that generally speaking it is expensive for burgers and fries. I ordered the Bacon & Cheddar Burger ($9.79) and it was delicious, I don't know what size their patties are but I expected something a little bit bigger. I saw someone eating the pastrami and it looked awesome. At $7.99 with fries that is a smoking deal. I am going to order this next time. I feel that the wait is also sub par for a restaurant of this type. It should be around 8 minutes from order to delivery. Superb Burger, Kinders, Squeeze Inn, Ettores all average at this mark. The wait time is greatly affected by the amount of people waiting in line at the time of order. I have waited inline to order for 8-10 minutes while the kids meltdown. All the while you are hoping that a table will open up. In the summer the outdoor area is awesome for kids, in the winter at night not soo much. You have to grab a table right when you walk in regardless if you have ordered. I think the staff is great and the atmosphere is as good as it gets. Once they fine tune the menu and order flow thru the kitchen I would bump them up to 4 stars. Also they need to figure out how to juggle additional drink orders. I ordered another beer and I ended up canceling it because I finished my entire meal before I was asked if I still wanted it. That equals lost sales. They serve pitchers there so consider this as cheap insurance for maintaining the suds flow during your meal. I am looking forward to this place maturing.

As a business owner myself, I was really impressed by the personalized service that the owner himself gave us! The food was great too... really fresh. I love that this fun resturant opened up in Carmichael! The resturant is very tiny - they do a good job to keep people moving along but, we did have a little bit of a wait for lunch. I would suggest to get there early!

Not only was my burger amazingly good, but my girlfriends grilled cheese was bomb! How often do you hear someone say "that's the best grilled cheese I've ever had!" The crisscut fries are cooked perfectly. The sweet potato fried aren't overly sweet either. Portion sizes are great, and you will leave full. Remember, pick the joker and your meal is free!

First time at Skip's. I ordered the Bacon, Jalapeno, Jack Cheese Burger. To my surprise the meat was very flavorful and tender. A tiny bit over cooked but very good. Most of the other Burger places have grisel inside the meat and its hard to chew. Not here though. The only thing that I didnt like was the criss cross frieds. They were soft and not crispy. Lastly, i requested Tobasco sauce which surprised me when they didnt have any. I the shoestring yam fries were way better.

Let me preface this by saying I really want to love this place. We have so few good places for casual dining in the Arden-Arcade area, and I really want to support my local community businesses. I will be back, because I think they have a great thing going, just needs some fine tuning. What was lacking in food was more than made up in the personality of the owner, Skip. But unfortunately what brings people back again and again is the food... Super friendly bunch working here. They are eager to help and it doesn't come off as anything less than genuine. I was convinced to order something that I didn't necessarily want, but agreed to it because he said he would remake what I did want if I didn't like it... Skip was nice enough to come over and ask personally if I did like it. I liked it well enough, but it wasn't what I wanted, so lesson learned for me, if my heart is set on something, don't be convinced otherwise. My bad. What we did get was a $5 coupon to come back and give them another try because none of our sandwiches were as stellar as we had anticipated, so props to them for turning a so-so experience good. Looking forward to a return trip, if for nothing else, their Garlic Parmesan fries are amazing!

I will be definitely coming back here sometime in the near future. First off all the employees that spoke to us were extremely nice and Skip was very nice to me and my friends as well. He came by every so often to ask us if everything was okay and if we liked our burgers which we did, they were amazing. The criss cut fries were really good as well. I ordered the western burger with criss cut fries and finished pretty much everything, it definitely fills you up and 2 of my friends couldn't finish their burgers but got them to go. Overall amazing place to eat at, friendly workers, amazing food, and nice atmosphere.

This place has great food. The burgers are amazing! I had the three cheese burger with bacon marmalade on it which was soooo good! My boyfriend had the western burger and loved it! We both decided to go all out and try the mac and cheese balls and the fried ravioli which were both pretty tasty. I really liked how Skip, himself, was there and is such a down to earth, nice guy. He even gave us a soda on the house while we waited for our to-go order. My boyfriend and I will definitely be back! The only thing is that it is a little snug in the restaurant and it was HOT in there. I waited awhile for my order and was sweating on the way out. It was definitely worth the wait, though! Thanks, Skip!

Came here one night on a whim with my boyfriend after hearing some good things from neighbors. I got a pastrami sandwich which was perfect, just enough meat to cheese ratio. He got the bacon burger and switched the cheddar out for blue cheese; burger was also very good. The sweet potato fries were even good and I dont usually care for them! The bottom bun of the burger was really dry so we took it back up to the counter and they were very friendly and willing to switch out the bun. The new burger came out in less than a minute and the bottom bun was much better! Skip was walking around talking to customers and I thought it was the perfect amount of friendly. He didnt linger or interrupt meals, but made enough of an effort to make you feel welcome.

The burger was great - good bun, the right amount of patty and condiments, and all the ingredients were super yummy. The rosemary sweet potato fries were good. I am not a huge fan of string fries but these were pretty yum. The service was fast, even at 1230 on a weekday, and very nice.

So, my beau and I came here for an impromptu date night. Neither of us really knew what we were in the mood for, so we ordered a variety of items from the menu to share, including: Mac and Cheese Bites: Heavenly. They come with a side of ooey gooey rich and delicious cheese sauce, as if there wasn't already enough in the perfectly fried bites! Come on, let's be honest here...if you say no to more cheese, you're either crazy or lactose intolerant. I'm a little of each and I still ate the hell out of these things. Buffalo Chicken Ravioli: Deep fried spicy goodness. The chicken is perfectly hot, and I mean that in a 'tickle your tongue' kinda way. They come with a side of blue cheese, but since I'm more of a ranch gal, I asked for that instead...and it complemented these babies wonderfully. Mini Beef Wellingtons: Okay. The first bite was like an explosion of flavor in my mouth and I didn't want it to stop. Loved them. Finally, we got a blackened chicken chopped salad that was chock full of chicken, avocado, jicama, corn, beans, and a delicious type of hickory ranch dressing. I loved it. The chicken was so good that I wanted to pick through the whole salad just so I could find all the pieces...not that it was hard to find - there was a ton of it, which was a pleasant change of pace compared to what I'm used to. The clientele and staff here are fantastic. Friendly, talkative, and most importantly, attentive. I was nearing the end of my glass of hybrid Pinot Grigio (so tasty) and one of the chefs was walking by and stopped to ask me if I'd like another! He knew exactly what I was drinking. It was hard to say no to that! Long story short, I'm very happy Skip's is only a mile from my place. I'll be visiting again for sure.

I am so glad I decided to try this place out. The burgers and sandwiches are wonderful and I like the casual atmosphere. So far I have been there 4 times in the last two weeks and have enjoyed it every time. This is a small place so it may be crowded at times but I do think it is worth it.

What a find! And an unexpected one at that. A small building (maybe once an Arby's?), in a bit of an odd spot, in a not so desirable location... Turns out to be a gem! This place just about has it all. Great food, close to home, friendly service. I've been here a couple times now. There are things on the menu like salads, soup, sandwiches... I could not possibly provide any insight for these. My first trip, I had a burger, and I don't imagine I will ever have anything other than a burger... They are TOO good!! Both times I have had the Western Burger. Superbly seasoned, excellent sauce, cooked to perfection... Mmm Mmm good! The Rosemary Sweet Potato fries should also NOT be missed. Holy Schmoly - These fries are fantastic!! (slobber, slobber, drool, drool...) My wife has had the Original burger with cheese, and on another trip, the Steak sandwich (ie. Cheesesteak). Both garnered rave reviews from her as well. My son has enjoyed the Kid's menu burger both times. Well enough, that even as a five year old, he finished it off. Good stuff! Although this is an order at the counter and find a seat place (not usually my favorite thing), the service is always extremely friendly and helpful. 'Skip' is super friendly and often manning the counter himself, and will help to clear you a table and get you seated when he can. All of this, and every meal provides you with an opportunity to win that meal for free! Gotta love that! Probably the only (slight) downside - it is a bit pricey. Not outrageous, but a bit more than you might expect. Burgers, fries, and a fountain drink for two will easily get you above $30. But once in awhile - Oh so worth it!!

I'm at Skip's right now, 3/4 through my meal and I had to review this. Food orgasm! Tried a few of the appetizers. All great! Beef Wellington bites, Mac bites, and buffalo chicken ravioli. Started with the blackened chicken salad and it was amazing and I usually hate all salads because that shit's for rabbits & smelly vegans... But this was top notch. Looking forward to coming back, only next time I'll walk since it's only 1.5 miles away. Oh Joy!

Full disclosure, I came out to Skip's because I knew Skip when I was a teenager. (Nice touch on the DeMolay Playing cards.) But in all honesty, these are some of the best burgers I've ever had. The sides are unique and something to definitely try. Seems some controversy on the mini-beef wellingtons. Seems they are missing the mustard tang from a full size beef wellington, but other than that, I liked them. As for the rest of the menu I ordered (which was a lot), it was incredible, and I'll likely head out there again just for those burgers.

Amazing! Had this twice now, both times all different items and both times great service and amazing food! I've had both the mini beef wellingtons and mac n cheese bites and while both were good I'll return many more times for the Mac n cheese. I also got a burger both times, first time the mushroom swiss(awesome!) and the second the three cheese which had cheddar, Brie and blue cheese. It was out of the world good. Also a great place for kids as they annihilated their grilled cheese, chicken and quesadilla both times. They have a customer for life here!

This place was bomb good, we order the Chipotle pesto chicken sandwich and the bacon Western burger. The bacon Western burger was so good even though it's very common it was still very unique the taste and was delicious. The chicken sandwich was also very delicious my only comment would be that I would like more Chipotle pesto sauce on it since it only had a little. The young lady that helped us in the front was so nice it almost felt as if we had arrived into someone's home to have dinner. As soon as we started digging through our pockets for the 84 cents we were short she immediately said not to worry about it and it was a very nice gesture on her part. I definitely recommend this place to any burger lovers! This was my first visit and I will be returning.

Nice, clean, Saturdays almost full at lunch time, sports Chanel TV. The mushroom &Swiss: mushrooms sautéed in garlic butter with aged Swiss. The fun part: When you are ordering, they spread a deck of cards on the counter and you have to pick one; if you pick the Joker, lunch is on them. I picked 9 of diamonds ... Next time :) You keep the card so they know what table to go when your meal is ready. Great sweet potato fries(the darker the color, the more nutrition you get) Fresh meat with a good egg bread.

So my girlfriend and I love trying new places and we found Skips on yelp with amazing reviews! I will tell you they did not disappoint! The atmosphere was awesome, casual family atmosphere where both customers and employees were happy and friendly. The food was amazing the Mac puppies were the bomb and our food was stellar! The best part of our experience was Greg the chef! Talk about making you feel welcome, I felt like we just walked into our buddy's place! Great guy! All and all a great place and a must visit. I think this place should be on Diners Drive Ins and Dives we will be back!

I looked Skip's up on reviews and decided to check the place out with my boyfriend. The place was a lot smaller than I anticipated and its kind of tucked away but its a great local hole in the wall place (and it also has a small outdoor patio that can maybe seat up to 15-20 people). The coolest thing about Skip's is their ordering system. After you order instead of a number you choose a playing card and that's how they know which customers ordered what BUT if you pick a joker card they comp your meal. We got lucky that day and my boyfriend pulled the joker and our 25 dollar meal was given to us on the house! It was pretty busy when we arrived so it took a while for them to get the food out to us. I ordered a 3 cheese burger with jalepenos and a veggie pattie instead of a meat pattie. and when it came out, my burger only had the jalepenos on it. I took it in to have it fixed and they corrected my order right away and the owner personally brought it back out and apologized. Really awesome! All the food was on par. Great burger great sweet potato fries. My boyfriend got the western burger and he loved it. I would definitely recommend this place to others! Just know that if you're going on a weekend or with a big group that this place is small so anticipate a wait but its worth it!

Skip's sweet potato fries are so addicting. Still love them. I couldn't wait to take them back to the office so I am munching on them as I make my 2 mile drive. A hefty turkey sandwich with a side of skinny crunchy sweet potato fries for $7. What a deal!

A filling and delicious burger. I got a bacon and blue cheese burger that was big!! The bacon they use is of good quality! Not only is the food incredible, but what made this place stand out from any other burger joint is the customer service!! Hands down, best customer service even from the owner! Beyond nice and attentive! I'm only visiting Sacramento, but I know where to come back to for a burger when I'm in town.

First time here and it was good choice. Food was good but service was great. One bad thing - The fries are not very good. I like them little crispy but these were soft & soggy. Owner is awesome with customers. I will go back again to give it another try.

I visited Skip's Kitchen on my 40Th birthday. I've been wanting to go here for the longest time. I finally got the chance on Wednesday the 13Th. I was immediately greeted by the hostess/cashier. She was very nice and personable. She also took the time to tell me about the food quality and the options on the menu. I believe her name was Kristen. I asked for samples of the different sauces and she gladly delivered!!! Outstanding service. I ordered three burgers for my family. They were cooked perfectly!!! I can not say enough good things about the quality of the food and especially the bacon!!! I was impressed by the service and the quality of the food. I also met Skip. He took the time to introduce himself and is very genuine. Pros- Hostess, food quality, wait time on service. Cons-none The place is outstanding. I will recommend to everyone I meet.

This was my first time going to Skip's and I ordered the classic burger and it was delicious. Admittedly the burger was a bit on the rare side of medium, but seeing that the meat is ground on location, I didn't worry about any crazy stuff that comes from pre-made patties or bulk ground meat from suppliers. Hey Skip, if Rebeka S. doesn't take you up on your offer, I'd substitute for her. I love the casual atmosphere and cleanliness of the place. The menu has a lot of other stuff that will keep me coming back over and over again.

This is the kinda place that gets great yelp reviews that are well-deserved. But the total package is out of sync. It's a burger joint that is trying to be too cool, too fancy, too much everything. Small plates at a burger place?? Mini beef wellingtons? Ravioli? Salads with bacon, blue cheese crumbles, caramelized walnuts, cranberries, etc. Fancy $10 burgers. Wines and beers, shakes, kids' entrees, ice cream sandwiches. They need to move to a larger place. Even then, they need to define a niche and make some adjustments. If the target is a family of four with 150k+ income, having lunch at Skip's Kitchen is cool. It has the casual feel, good food, is great for the kids plus it has beer and wine for mom and dad. I think, I'm outside of the niche for Skip's.

  • Trish C.

My first time to Skip's, won't be the last! My juicy bacon cheese burger was awesome although despite my best effort to stay clean, the burger won. The brioche bun is soft and holds up great. The garlic parmesan fries may not be a good choice if you have to go back to your sales job after lunch (they were very good) and the burgers are cooked medium (so if you don't like them pink TELL them how you want it cooked). The place is fun, people are friendly and the food is very good. What more could you want? Oooooh yeah... the online order thingy? Works great!!

Great place and all I had was a take-out burger lol I'm new to the area for work, seen this place and decided to give it a shot. I called and to my surprise, "Skip" was the one to answer. When I showed up to pick up my food he greeted me by my first name. lol So A+ for service. Food was great! my co worker and I ordered the Western, not greasy, perfect amount of fries to compliment it, and a great overall burger. I will definately refer my customers as well as other people in the area.

This place is the BOMB! The burgers are incredible, the fries (sweet potato and criss-cut) are awesome. And the owner Skip is incredibly friendly and helpful, always asking the customers if they need anything. I wish I had found this place sooner! I will definitely be back!

What a burger! I had the bbq burger without bbq sauce and it was incredible. The onion ring was crispy, the bun soft, all fresh ingredients and huge. My husband had the bacon and cheese burger and he loved it so much he never set it down. We will definitely return and try other burgers.

Burgers were delicious. Sweet potato fries were really thin. Garlic parmesan waffle fries were garlicky! Loved them! It was kinda hot inside. The table was a bit sticky. The drains behind the counter (that were visible while ordering) were extremely dirty with slimy black stuff. This could be why there were flies landing on my table. Service was nice. Very attentive. They just need to clean more.

Randomly discovered Skip's Kitchen while driving down El Camino in search of new eateries to eat at. The nice food and the moderate prices don't quite vibe with the small venue that was obviously once a fast-food place (I think I overheard someone say it was a DQ?) but we still had a good time. Skip and the staff were very nice. When you order from the cash register-less counter, Skip gives you your total: "$36.59... UNLESS you can pick the Joker out of this deck of cards, then dinner's on us!" Unfortunately no Joker was found but it's a nice kitschy touch. The beer I ordered blew a tap as it was being poured and it took them awhile to get a new keg hooked up, so they brought out 2 glasses to thank me for waiting. Score! The whole menu is "gourmet versions of traditional favorites". We got the mini beef wellingtons for an appetizer, I got the Three Cheese Burger and he got 'The Heap' Salad. I'd never had beef wellington before and unfortunately it wasn't all I dreamed of... they were a bit bland, but maybe that's how it's supposed to taste? Anyway J really enjoyed his salad, especially when all the lettuce is gone and you're left with the dressing-laden toppings at the bottom of the bowl *mmm*. My burger was very yummy and HUGE. You know it's a big burger when you turn it to different angles, trying to calculate how you can take a bite out of it. A nice time was had by all, we'd definitely go to Skip's again.

The short: I'm really torn on the good and the bad on this restaurant. It was a first time trying a new spot visit that didn't blow me away as the reviews suggested it would. The long: After reading the reviews for Skip's I was really looking forward to my visit on a Sat night. I made the drive up in that direction and almost missed the place since it is so small and inconspicuous. Luckily I managed to find a parking spot in the lot that was all compact spots (literally marked) yet full of vans and full size SUV's. As I got around the side of the building to get in I noticed the line was out the door. I kind of figured this was going to be a good thing. We grabbed a menu decided what we wanted and my wife snagged a table (there are only about 10 inside & 2 outside) while I waited in line to place our order. When I got to the counter I was greeted by Skip himself. He was very friendly and outgoing. When I had completed my order he spread out a deck of cards and told me if I picked the joker dinner was on him. No luck but the card I drew served as my number to be placed on the table for food delivery. When the food got out we had sitting in front of us 4 baskets including mini beef wellingtons, mac n cheese fritters, a grilled cheese sandwich, and a bacon burger. The food was all warm and fresh and we jumped right in since we were really hungry. The mini wellingtons were alright, but to be honest I wouldn't order them again. They didn't have that creamy and buttery inside that a good wellington has and in fact they bordered on tasting frozen. The mac and cheese fritters were crispy, but they came with a dipping sauce that looked like watered down cheese sauce or something and had no real flavor. Perhaps some kind of bacon siracha cheese dip would be good? My wife thought the grilled cheese was good, but said the cheeses became lost with the addition of tomatoes and basil. As for the burger it was okay. For me the bacon needed to be crisp to add a textural contrast to everything else that was wet or soft. The bacon was actually really limp and really barely cooked. As an overall the food needed more salt to us (which was funny considering others have complained there was too much), but we would consider giving it another shot because there seems to be promise. Would I recommend this place? Maybe, but I'd tell people to keep their expectations because this is really a burger/sandwich spot. What works: Friendly and personal service from who I assume was Skip himself. A friendly but small menu with solid options. What to improve: Seasoning and broaden the menu up a bit

Skip's is a unique, friendly neighborhood joint. It's family friendly, has delicious food and outstanding customer service. Skip is usually right up front running the register and welcoming each person as they come in. The burgers are outstanding. The mac cheese balls are awesome. The service and food are superior... try it, you'll be back.

I enjoyed their steak sandwich and I like the casual atmosphere where you can drink as well. Its definitely heavy but not a bad place to grab a quick bite. And of course, they have waffle fries. And their waffle fries are delicious. The owner is also really nice and if he's around he's cool for some friendly banter while you wait for your food.

Never imagined the quality of service I received here. From the moment my friend and I walked in the door, we were greeted by extremely friendly and cheerful employees. The attentiveness of the staff is what really wowed me. The cook even came out and asked if I would like my burger sliced in half because my friend hadn't ordered anything. We politely declined but were both later brought complimentary shakes in coffee cups because they felt bad she wasn't eating. From beginning to end we were always taken care of. Furthermore, prior to leaving we were also given to-go cups because we mentioned we had a long drive home. I can honestly say I have not received this level of service before, especially from a casual dining establishment. I would highly recommend Skip's for great food and a truly inviting environment.

Small restaurant. Limited parking. It was busy when we went and cold outside so eating outside wasn't really an option for me. Luckily, someone left and freed up a table inside. We ordered and paid with the lady at the island/counter. She laid out a deck of cards faced down and asked us to pick a card. If we picked the Joker, our meal would be free.. Neat! But, we lost. Took our card to the table, it's the marker for the staff to bring the order to whichever table. They had a Coke fountain machine, beer on tap, bottled, and wine. The food we tried was really good. I'd pass on the Mini Beef Wellingtons though.. It was more pastry than beef.. and it arrived hot (temperature).. The outside felt fine. I took a bite and burned the roof of my mouth. All the heat and steam was enclosed inside the pastry. The Mini Beef Wellingtons were okay. The sandwiches were amazing though.. The Burger was put on a brioche bun, nicely cooked, good size and with a side. I also tried the Pastrami Sandwich was even better. I wished the Pastrami, itself, had more flavor but it was tender and with everything-- Delicious. Also, with a side. Garlic Parmesan Fries were criss cut.. Good compared to the Rosemary Sweet Potato Fries. They were good, too. I'm just not a shoestring fan. I like a thicker cut fry. The owner, Skip, was present and very interactive with his customers. It's exactly what he advertises: Gourmet Casual Dining. Good food, moderately priced. The chance to get your meal for free with the Joker card is a fun little gimmick.. One day!!

This place is the bomb! Got a "Bacon & Chedder" burger I added mushroom and Avocado. Asked for a medium rare but turned out medium but it was still delish! Little interesting setting fence in front fake grass and a back parking.

This place is the best! I had the spinach salad and fried mac n cheese balls which were delicious and my two co diners had the western burger and the mushroom burger and both were satisfied. I also decided to get a chocolate milk shake for desert and it was so good, Not to mention it was free since I pulled the joker. The service here is also superb. Great place highly recommend!

MMMMM! This was my first time to Skips. This was actually our backup spot because the Flaming Grill was way too crowded. Im really glad we came here instead. The man at the counter was so goddamn nice! The burgers were delicious, the service was pretty quick even though it was also quite crowded. We ate outside, and that was the icing on the cake...I mean who doesnt want to watch crackheads shout at thin air while they enjoy a lovely meal?! I will be returning to Skips again. Best burger (and service) Ive had in a long time!

We went there for lunch on a Monday afternoon. The place was packed. Skip greeted us right away, we ordered, got to pick a card for a chance for a free meal ( didnt win, but it's a nice touch ) Keep your card, it doubles for your order number which they will bring to your table. The wife had the chipotle chicken, I had the pastrami sandwich --- YUM to both !! The other items coming from the kitchen looked real good too. We will definitely come back again soon to try those too. As we were leaving, Skip opened the door for us and gave us a warm thank you for coming in. Again a nice touch!

Great service, I thought cheddar bacon burger was good the onion rings were great, the fried mac & cheese balls terrific. For an out of way spot tons of traffic I will be back.

Excellent food, great service. I enjoyed a pastrami Burger and the fries were awesome. I especially like that Skips is close to my home.

Amazing burgers, but the chipotle pesto chicken sandwich is my fave! Always GREAT service, very friendly! Love the food and how personable they all are. Especially Skip. Love that you could have a chance to not pay for your food if you pick the joker from the deck of cards that they spread out in front of you before paying. I actually saw someone get the joker once. Made his day! Highly recommend it!

The owner and staff were very nice. The food was what I would expect for the 4.5 star yelp rating that convinced us to go out of our way. We both had the Skip's Original, one with onion rings one with Parmesan fries. This is the best burger I have had this year! The sauce was delicious and the vegetables were fresh.

Had a burger with the spinach salad and a side of onion rings. I sure wasn't expecting much, but boy are looks deciving. Panko crusted, crunchy loving in the onion rings and perfect triad of meat in the patties was only the start. Amazingly...the spinach salad with a zesty poppy seed dressing was the healthy version of the other less health friendly nummies. All food, both good for you and not so much, was served with love. Highly recommend. ...

This place is awesome! Great customer service. The manager seems to have a true passion for what he does. Rare to see in a business anymore. Made our experience very pleasant. Food was great! There is a new favorite burger place in town, try it seriously!!! My girlfriend and I liked it so much we almost went back for dinner. Support local business, this place will blow any burger joint out of the water.

My wife and I always look for small Breakfast Café's, Hamburger joints and Coffee shops to visit as we feel they are so important to our local economy and to the health of our community. The local business people are my neighbors and friend. I want them to succeed to ensure the health of our community. We were very pleased to discover Skip's Kitchen as this is a place we have vowed to return to often. We arrived at 11:05Am we were the 1st customers of the day. Skip greeted us and everyone who come through the door and introduced himself and explained the process for ordering. You take a menu and order at the counter. He rings up the order but you can't pay until he fans out on the front counter a regular deck of playing cards. You draw one card and if you get the joker, Skip pays the meal for you. The card you choose is your order number and you sit wherever you choose and place the card in the holder on the table. They will deliver your order when ready. Skip comes to the table to ask how your food is and chats a little with everyone. He is very friendly and appreciative of all his customers and it shows in the locals who gather there daily. Within 15 minutes it was very busy and being that the weather was amazing, several groups sat outside on the front patio. They have draft beer, bottled beer and a variety of soft drinks. We had a draft Sierra Nevada Pale Ale along with our very juicy fat hamburgers. They are made to order, no frozen patties; we have decided that this is a place we are going to frequently visit as we want to try everything on the menu based on our visit today. It is such a pleasure to be treated like our business is wanted and appreciated. I suggest you really make an effort to visit Skip's and appreciate real customer service.

A bit of a wait, but definitely worth it. I came here the day after Christmas for lunch and it looked like they were a bit understaffed. Not sure if that is because of the holiday or if this was typical. But because of the understaffing we had to buss the table before us to be able to sit down. The original burger was delicious! My sister-in-law had the steak sandwich. She seemed to enjoy it but complained that the steak was cut into such small pieces that it kept falling out. The best part was the owner, who I assume was Skip. He was really fun, upbeat, and passionate. He made the environment what it was!

Was in the neighborhood for work and yelped nearby restaurants. Skips came up and served the food I was looking for. Walked in the door and was greeted by a very friendly guy. His greeting was genuine and sincere. Ordered my food and got to play the card game. A fun experience, I liked it. My meatball sub was delicious. It was fresh, big and did not to try to be anything it wasn't.

Came here looking for a burger and a beer, was not disappointed. You order at the counter and are offered to pick a card from the deck and a joker wins a free meal. (Has anybody ever gotten the joker? Are they even in there?) The burgers are amazing and the onions rings were crispy and delicious so it was worth the $30 my boyfriend and I paid for 2 burgers with fries and onion rings and two beers. Parking is scarce and the restaurant itself is tiny, but the outside patio has two large tables with canopies over them. We sat outside since there was not an empty seat inside and enjoyed our beers until our food came out. Skip himself seems like he is usually there and was constantly cruising around chatting with his customers and came out to see how everything was. Overall, a great meal. We will definitely go back to visit Skip.

Awesome sweet potato fries! Got the western burger and was horribly unimpressed. The bacon was not cooked at all! The patty fell apart. But it was a fun environment. I'll go again and order something different

Come here all the time since it down the street from work! (Here now as I write this) and have never been displeased! Skip is a great guy who makes you feel welcome as soon as you step through the door! The staff is very friendly and the food is always delicious! Will continue to come here for many years to come!

First time my boyfriend took me here I was a little bit skeptic, I'm not really a big fan of burger joints let alone burgers but my bf and his friend told me this is one of the best in Sacramento. When we arrived, there was a pretty long line but I was not bothered because I was to busy watching what was going on to the people ordering. When you are order, they spread a deck of cards on the counter and you have to pick one; if you pick the Joker, lunch is on them!! How cool is that!!! When it was our turn to order I was way to excited to pick a card but needless to say. I didn't get the joker, (and yes I've seen people pick it and they really do honor the free meal!!) There is a really great ambiance about the place; the owner goes all out to make sure that you are taken care of. The staff was on point, friendly, and eager to assist your every need. They even refill your drinks for you, its almost like going to a sit down restaurant and getting table service but way cooler and more relaxed. My boyfriend usually gets the pastrami sandwich and the criss cut fries , and me not being the sandwich/burger person that I am , I stick with the Asian salad . Lets just say as amazing filling that salad is ...I cant help but sneak in a few bites here and there from my bf's order...man oh man. ...that cheese. That pastrami. Those fries... Go try this place out for yourself I guarantee you that once you eat at skips nothing else will touch your lips !!!!! ..YEP!! so good I had to rhyme

This place is awesome. My family and I are always looking for good non-chain restaurants and we found it here. Everyone bent over backwards to make our dining experience the best. Burgers are the best. I ordered a quesadilla for my granddaughter off the childrens menu and the owner made sure we knew what went in it and that there was nothing spicy in it (she's only 1.) Soda's were always filled. We never had to get our own. I will be back and I will tell everyone how great Skip's is.

This place gets it. This used to be an old Dairy Queen way back when and the owner has turned it into an awesome fast food/fine dining hybrid. I have yet to meet Skip, but the employees, from the Manager to the staff seem to care about every aspect of your meal. They have beers on tap......a compact but interesting menu and outstanding customer service. Customer Service is something you don't find anymore, but here, the employees really seem to care. My son's Chipotle Chicken sandwich and my Mushroom and Swiss burger were incredible. We upgraded to O-Rings and Garlic Parmesan Criss-Cut Fries.....just sayin', this will be a weekly habit. They'll even pay for your entire meal if you choose the joker (just go to find out). Our favorite new place to hang out is Skip's Kitchen.

Wonderful little spot for a great bite. This was our second time here and it was fabulous! I had a delicious grilled cheese with avocado,...but the real star was the creamy chicken tortilla soup. Skip told us he wanted to do a creamy version of this, so him and his chef came up with this recipe. YUM! Wished i had ordered a bowl and not just a cup! Sweet potato fries were good, and the burger my son had was yummy but he wished it was bigger! Great neighborhood place!

Best burger in town! Burgers are cooked and seasoned to perfection. Brioche buns are soft and yummy. The bacon cheddar burger comes with a healthy portion of apple wood smoked bacon chunks smothered in quality cheddar. Sooooo good! Good fresh cut fries - cross cut and sweet potato. This will definitely be our new favorite burger joint! Besides having great food and great service, the owners make the rounds to check on customers and are super nice!

Skip himself is not only a really good businessman, but is also a really relateable and a genuinely nice person. He always seems to be in a good mood, and greets his customers as if they are his personal friends and family. He obviously prides himself on having the healthiest and best quality ingredients. He is willing to put time into his food. For instance the turkey sandwich, which he takes the time to brine/marinate and roast, just for this one menu item, rather than opting to use lunch meat. Which would be much simpler but would significantly affect the quality. I feel like they take pride in everything in this restaurant, the quality of food, customer service, the environment is always clean and well stocked. Skip himself seems willing to do every job in his business. His employees seem to be very happy and enjoy where they work. We have brought several groups of friends and family here and they all seem to have a similar enjoyable experience. We have found this to be one of the best privately owned establishment in the area for burgers. And they deserve all the positive reviews here. I would give this place a 5 star rating, but there are a couple minor issues. The parking lot is very small, as well as the building itself. It is sometimes hard at dinner time/weekends to find a place to park, or a place to sit. I hope they have plans to relocate to a larger building to support their growing and loyal fan base.

I have been here a few times now, and I am definitely a fan. It's a small place that serves really good food, and the staff is always very friendly and helpful. I came here the first time on a hunt for a good burger, and was told by a friend to give this place a shot. I ordered the western burger with onion rings. My daughter had a cheese quesadilla and apple sauce. My burger was cooked a perfect medium and tasted really, really good. My daughter's quesadilla was, as she put it, "disgusting" because they made it with American cheese. She is 5. They remade it with cheddar cheese and she was happy. The next couple times I came, I ordered the bacon and cheddar burger. This has become my favorite burger here. They use large chunks of bacon, not strips. The burger itself is always cooked perfectly. The staff is always making sure you are happy with your meal. Skip himself is bringing you your food if he is there. He is always making sure you are happy with your meal, and will fix it if your not. The staff is all easy to deal with, and all seem happy to work here even though this place is always busy. Skip's Kitchen is one of those small restaurants everybody should try at least once. I'm sure you will be back for the food, service, and comfortable atmosphere. I will definitely be back to try many more things on the menu. It's a bit loud, and has a small dining area. Come with a friend and have them scout out a seat while you wait in line. Your meal may be free if you pick the joker.

Y U M M Y! That's the only way to describe my lunch yesterday. Skip, totally pleasant, professional and customer service oriented. I ordered the Mushroom Swiss burger with crosscut fries. Yummy! I also ordered a side salad...yes, I was overly hungry! Yummy! We got there as soon as it opened and the line started right away. People ordered "to go", they ate inside, outside, it didn't matter. Awesome place!

  • Nick G.

As far as burgers go, this place is absolutely amazing! I heard about this place through a friend, who told me that they may have just found the best burger in Sac! Well let me tell you, it's top 3 for sure! I ordered a Bacon and Cheddar Burger ($9.79) and added avocado ($1) and jalapeños ($0.79) to it. Also ordered at our table was a Western Burger ($10), that comes with bacon, a crispy onion ring, sharp cheddar cheese, and BBQ sauce. Both burgers were a 10/10 on the flavor scale. I mean absolutely PERFECT!!! Cooked to perfection, seasoned beautifully... the kind of burger that had enough flavor on its own and that I don't have to dip in ketchup before every bite. The only complaint I can try to find is that maybe they're a bit on the small side... but the taste more than makes up for it. I had their Sweet Potato Fries alongside the burger, and I was also impressed by them. They are shoestring cut, and fried to flaky perfection. Also ordered were the Mini Beef Wellingtons ($8.29), which were okay, but completely overshadowed by the burgers. Though perfectly prepared inside and out, the pastry outside was flaky and soft, and the meat on the inside was moist and flavorful, no one really loved them, and I suspect they could improve upon the served "dip" to counterbalance the harshness of the mushrooms. Skip's, you've got a hell of a burger menu, I'd suggest you promote the burgers, make them a little bugger, and enjoy the rewards of running a successful restaurant. I will be back... many, MANY times!

Very nice place. Friendly owner and staff who will make things right if your food is not great. The burgers are great. Some different appetizers. Good ice cream desserts. Seems to be a family-friendly place. Don't forget to pick the right card to win a free meal.

My kids and I found this little gem one day. Had the burgers/fries plus a salad. It blew us away so much that my youngest son begged me to drive the 10 miles back out the very same night to have Skip's Kitchen for dinner. Yes, that is how awesomely great this place is. We've tried the salads, burgers, beef wellington, fries, chicken...none of it was a disappointment, and all of it was gone - no left overs :(. I highly recommend this place. I must mention that each and every one of the staff was top notch with their customer service. There aren't too many places that leave such an impression on me or my KIDS! We will be back for sure.

I consider myself a connoisseur of burgers. I read many reviews before coming here so I came with high expectations. The burger was extremely bloody and by the time I was halfway done, the bottom bun was soggy/disintegrated. The best part would have to be the cross fries. The deep fried Mac and cheese balls were dry and lacked the explosiveness I was looking for. The environment itself is pretty cool, small and modern. Overall, I was pretty disappointed with the food. I most likely will not return.

I've been here three times now but I've still only tried one thing on the menu: the grilled cheese. And honestly, there really doesn't seem to be a need to change that. Not that the other stuff on the menu doesn't look like it's good, believe me, the rest of their menu all looked superb. But how does it get better than a grilled cheese sandwich with 4 cheeses, tomato and basil on sourdough? Answer: it doesn't. Not in my world. I like to change out the fries for fruit and it's basically as wonderful as when you're walking through a forest the fairies come out and guide you to the secret waterfall where the unicorns are playing. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I can't really judge it on any of the other food, though I have heard it's good, too. PS - if you're going to sit inside, you might want to bring along a really warm sweater or coat. I had goosebumps the whole time because I was FREEZING. I wish they had more outdoor seating but their lot is pretty small. PPS - I really like their order numbering system with the playing cards. They spread out a deck of cards, you pick one out and that becomes your order number, if you get the Joker your order is free. And no, they don't take out the Joker, I've seen two people get it.

The food is pretty good. I don't like how they don't put any bacon on the bacon burger ! And it's kinda expensive.

Service is friendly! Greg and Brenda went above and beyond and they were great w/the kids! I was with my BFF and her 4 daughters! We ate outside and had soo much fun! Everything was delicious! Not enough fries on the kids menu though. Chicken strips were flavorful. Meat was tender and juicy on the mini beef wellington. I do wish it would have had the musters baked in it. We will definitely be back! This is our go-to spot!

Walked in and of course at 750 at night it was empty which was nice. The hostess was incredibly nice and very much pregnant. We ordered and got some of the tastiest Bacon Cheddar burgers homemade with Parmesan cross curt fries and sweet potatoe fries. We were in heaven. They even have more than two types of beer. Wonderful place. The manage that night even came over and made sure we had a great meal. Nice touch guys! Even with the card giveaway that you guys do which makes it pretty memorable. Thanks for a great place that is now my favorite!

First time trying skips kitchen last week. LOVED IT. We were kindly welcomed into the restaurant with an opened door and a nice handshake from Skip himself. When we went up to order, the waitress let us pick a card from a deck of cards to try to get a free meal, or $5 off the next meal. I thought that was a cool way to entertain guests... I bet kids would love it! I ordered the spinach salad with bacon, grilled chicken and poppyseed dressing, and my fiance ordered the pastrami sandwich (Added bacon) with fries. My salad was delicious, and had the perfect portion of toppings to spinach. The pastrami was scrumptious! OH MAN THE CHEESE!!! THE BACON! Lets just say I kept asking for bites of his sammy in between bites of salad. The customer service was simply amazing. The waitress came by our table several times to refill drinks/waters...even though it is a self serve type of beverage service. Skip came by the table and asked how everything was.... What I really l liked about Skip was that I caught a glimpse of him washing dishes in the back, in between bussing tables..NOW THATS A BUSINESS OWNER!!! High five to you! Wish it was closer to my neighborhood!

Been here many times and the *only* bad think I can say is the place is small. Skip is the consummate greeter and when ordering if you draw a joker from the deck of cards your meal is free. But this place is ALL about the burgers which are big, juicy and delicious. The fries are also good - I especially like the rosemary, sweet potato fries. Friends have gotten the steak salad and really like that as well. Clean, friendly atmosphere, and beer is available. Get there early!

Just got home from another great meal at Skips! Have to add that the outdoor area is perfect for young children. We had 6 toddlers under the age of 5 in our party and they had a BALL running around on the turf. The outdoor seating area is completely fenced in which worked out great. It was one of the least stressful meals we've had out with the kids in quite some time :)

We stumbled upon Skip's only because we were avoiding Hwy 50 construction and came home via Hwy 80 instead. We drove by and I remarked "dang, what's that place its packed". We then realized we were hungry and stopped to Yelp it. The reviews were great so we headed in. There was a short-ish line at the counter where a gentlemen, presumably Skip, was taking orders. He was very friendly and clearly enthused with what he was doing, which made for a fun neighborhood atmosphere. My hubs ordered the bacon cheddar burger with onion rings and I ordered the heap salad. The burger was delicious and the bun was good too - IMO a bad bun can ruin a good burger. The onion rings were perfection. My salad was also fresh and delicious. It appears everything, down to the dressing, is house made, which I am a huge fan of. You can eat there or take it to go. The place was packed the entire time but Skip somehow still managed to make time to greet his guests at the tables and say goodbye to everyone individually. This was a great neighborhood find, we will be back for sure.

Congrats Skip!! Food: Spectacular! My husband and I split the mini beef wellingtons, the bacon cheddar burger with sweet potato fries, and the grilled cheese with the garlic parmesan crisscut fries...my mouth is salivating just writing about the food. The mini beef wellingtons were what sealed the deal on us choosing Skip's for date night. My husband describes them as, "delicious beef nuggets of joy," enough said. The grilled cheese was crunchy outside and a soft 4 cheese blend inside complimented by the tomato and basil, YUM! Oh, and PLEASE upgrade your crisscut fries to the garlic Parmesan ones. Hubbie and I smelled like garlic heaven on the way home. The garlic was perfect too, not sharp and raw like some garlic fries. I wouldn't change a thing. Now for the pièce de résistance...the burger. I love a good burger especially after becoming a burger connoisseur during my pregnancy...Skip's burger was out of this world. It was seasoned beautifully, juicy and tender!!! That night I dreamt of that phenomenal burger. To top it all off, they serve beer and wine, yay! Service: The service was great! Skip himself checked in with us and took the time to introduce himself, ask for our names, and ask us how dinner was. He is personable and runs his business the old fashioned way, with pride. We were impressed. Location: The restaurant is modest and clean. It looks like it is in an old Arby's. There isn't a ton of seating, but it seems to be just the right amount. The restaurant has a warm neighborhood feel. We noticed that they have two wine fridges, one for white and one for red so that your beverage is kept at the right temp. In the words of my darling husband, "classy." Can't wait to go back! Everyone go to Skip's!!

  • Nate S.

Skip's serves casual fare prepared with more-than-typical care and forethought. Most dishes were well-executed, although I felt they played a bit on the safe side with seasoning. Also, my kid's quesadilla was filled with "American cheese". While not even in 1st grade, he is has enough culinary acumen to call BS on this. The kid's menu need not be dumbed down to be kid-friendly. OK, so I give them the benefit of the 4 stars because they are local, trying hard, offering good service, and they do something CRUCIAL that NO OTHER RESTAURANT IN SACRAMENTO DOES! Ella? Nope! The Kitchen? Niet. Biba? Nuh-uh. Waterboy? Non, monsieur. What is it, then? Skip's maintains two small counter-height refrigerated units that hold their wine. And corporate plonk it is (Toasted Head, Menage a Trois, etc. Blech.) One holds reds at about 62 degrees. The other holds whites at about 52 degrees. That's it. Not rocket science. But it is proper wine service, and not one goddamn restaurant in Sac gets it right except them. If there is one, please let me know, and I'll edit the review, but I've never seen it. Most joints keep their whites at regular fridge temp (way too cold), and reds at ambient room temp (way too warm in most settings). But Skip's, this little casual place on the east end of El Camino, gets it right. Explain that to me, Messrs. Selland, Mahan, et al.?

Hard to see the building, because the color is dark; doesn't stand out from the residences. I ordered the steak sandwich, and added avocado. Love avocado. Loved the sandwich. The steak - very juicy and tender - was cut up into cubes, and the "house made Gorgonzola sauce" was very tasty. Don't expect any quiet conversations; the acoustics are terrible. Seating is limited, but you can order to-go, which I think I'll do next time. Yes, there will be a next time. Want to try the grilled cheese sandwich (4-cheeses, basil, tomato), and mini beef wellington (red wine-mushroom reduction, lemon-pepper brie wrapped in puff pastry).

Having driven past here numerous times, seeing the line out the door, tonight we lucked out and were able to nab a primo parking spot and a table. I hadn't been in here since it was El Palmar, and they've performed an excellent job brightening up the place. It felt open and airy. Each staff member was authentically friendly, and our dinner came out at a reasonable time. When I noticed that my salad didn't have chicken in it, the server was quick to correct it. The portions were surprisingly a realistic size. For those who are disappointed by the "small" portions, it's probably more in line with what we should be eating quantity-wise (when you think about it) -- so it's an ideal place to partake in fresh, quality ingredients and feel like you're indulging just enough.

Great dinner spot. My friend and I came here 20 minutes before it closed and they happily took our order. I had the Asian salad with chicken, which was very good! My friend had the pastrami sandwich and onion rights, which was also a hit. They serve their beers really cold.

Very delicious food! First time I came here I got the three mini sliders, well worth the money and next time I came I got theme chicken sandwich. The bread is really fresh almost as if they make it themselves. Definitely worth trying everything on the menu at least and some items more then once!! I'll be a regular here for sure

if i kept up with the Sac Bee i would have known they just ran an article on Skip's, and i would have known NOT to come in as they were beyond packed!!! all seating occupado inside and out. i'm very happy i stuck it out and gave them a shot. i admit i'm a picky eater and made no exception with Skip's. i ordered their chipotle pesto chicken sandwich substituted with a housemade veggie patty, no cheese, no mayo, and criss-cut fries. that must have been the best veggie patty i've ever tasted. perfect spices, perfect texture, and did NOT fall apart upon 1st or 2nd bite. the chipotle pesto was a different spin on pesto- almost like a thicker salsa vinaigrette yet not as acidic. what a tasty spread on the sandwich- you don't need mayo, mustard, or any other condiment muddling the flavors. those fries were great as well- perfectly fried with the right amount of seasoning. who's dishing up all this great food? they have trained chefs (culinary graduates) in the kitchen, so you know your food is handled properly with pride and ServSafe certificates. kicking it up another notch is their check-out process. upon ordering you get to choose a card from a deck. if you pick the Joker, your meal is free! if not, your card is just your order number for them to deliver your food to your table. what a great new addition to Arden-Arcade. even with the insane crowds the cashier and server were extremely friendly and helpful. once the crowds die down i will definitely sneak in for another fantastic meal.

Great food at a very reasonable price. The atmosphere is casual and comfy and Skip, the owner, is very friendly and welcoming. I will be coming back. I had the steak sandwich, which was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious.

Yum Yum Yum! Awesome food, great service, super nice owner and smiling, friendly staff. Other places should take note. Skip is the nicest guy! He always goes to each table to make sure you're happy as do the cooks and staff. I'm a fan of the bacon cheddar burger with slices of avocado. I've gotten the same burger 4 times. It's sooo good I have a hard time changing my order. But I think next time I'll try a chicken-something. Skip's burgers are always fresh, great tasting and by no means meager in size. Happy belly everytime! I'm in the area every few weeks and always end up and Skip's for lunch. I will continue to frequent Skip's as long as he's around. (Even if I've never pull the Joker from the deck!) ;) Keep up the good work and awesome food!!

Skips is NOT the place to visit if you want to have a conversation with a friend. The acoustics need serious help! Everyone is forced to talk very loudly just to be heard. Skip is a kind man & is passionate about his business .-however, Skip adds to that lnoise level with his own loud welcome to each patron. Skip's also is the only place that I dine at that does not hand out receipts??

I love when people give a sh.. about their work. Almost every time I've visited this restaurant Skip is there. Almost every time I've called in a phone order Skip has taken my order. When I complimented him on his delicious house made veggie patties his eyes lit up and he shared the secret with me. Almost everything is made in house. Awesome eats. This place rocks. Go Skip!

WOW! The food is incredible and the service superb. The food at Skip's is over the top. Loved the beef wellington bites. Burgers are really good gourmet type burgers. The best sweet potato fries I've ever had. They have really innovative items that will keep me coming back to try. They do service right too. Everyone at Skip's is very personable, and cares about your experience.

Awesome gem in a neighborhood with very limited options. They only have two high chairs but we managed to snag them despite a full house gracious, fast service and GREAT burgers and fries!! Kids meal was a little lean (4 slices of grilled chicken and a tiny bowl of fruit), but our toddlers barely eat when out anyways. Definitely will return!!

Skip's is right in our neighborhood. I have tried the steak sandwich, mini beef Wellingtons, Skip's original burger and Ceddar Bacon cheeseburger, meatball sandwich and Mac puppies. I have yet to find something I don't like. Flavors are complex and portion sizes are just right. Nice that I can have a beer or wine with the meal, too. Being a chocolate shake or malt fan, Skip's is my new favorite for a chocolate shake. A chocolately flavor that isn't too sweet or so thick it won't travel up a straw. Perfection! Ordering online is easy, convenient and fun, too. The odds of winning a free meal makes paying a bit easier. I have a friend that drew the joker twice and on our last visit, the guy ahead of us did, too. The kids had a grand ol' time out on the artificial turf patio. It is inviting enough to have them playing around, wrestling or enjoying a game of tag. If you haven't tried Skip's, get over there!

Fried mac & cheese, mini beef wellingtons, and an oreo shake all in one meal? I'm in heaven! Tasty food, great staff, nice, casual atmosphere. We will definitely be back.

Pretty good place for a burger. Excellent fries. I got the western burger which specifies bbq sauce. I didn't really taste it but it was still pretty decent burger. My hubby got the three cheese which he'd gotten before but they forgot his jalapenos! Then my son got the quesadilla that was on the kids menu and it was made with American cheese. For $5 it was pretty disappointing and my kid didn't even touch it. Overall, though, it was good for a burger craving but not my first pick of burger places to eat.

We were really happy with our first trip to Skip's (Saturday night). Service and food were both really good. We had some cold beers on tap (I had the honeyblond- very good). We shared the mac bites, mini wellingtons, buffalo chicken won tons. All delicious. Each come with 5 pieces and we ended up brings some home. We both had a salad - date had the Heap - lots of fresh greens, walnuts, bacon, etc. I had the chicken chopped. Delicious. Really good blue cheese dressing. I recommend the ice cream sandwich. We split one, which was a half a giant cookie with vanilla ice cream and oreo crumbles. So good. You can pick and choose cookies, ice cream, toppings. Really good food for the price. Nice location for Carmichael locals. We will definitely be back. Good for casual date or families. Totally recommend.

Parents (who can be tough to please), wife , and I went to Skip's Kitchen today for the first time. We got there at 12:08pm. I would recommend you come earlier or after 1:30pm as the place is BUSY and it gets backed up by the front door and the little counter where you order. Ordering was easy, quick, and you get the opportunity to win a free lunch (cool touch!). Tables are decent size and close together......a lot of people in there seemed to be families or regulars who knew each other. The place definitely has a friendly vibe. The owner (Skip) spoke to everyone in the room while we were there. Two of us had the Mushroom and Swiss Burger, one had the Turkey Sandwich, and another had the Asian Salad. The salad was deemed "very crunchy and tasty with a yummy dressing". My turkey sandwich was delicious.......juicy with great flavor, an excellent bun, and aioli spread.......a winner! I thought I'd not finish but ate it all. The burgers were big and tasty.....though the requested "medium" was still a little "rare".....but this is minor. The fries come in a criss-cross waffle style or a sweet potato. My wife and I had the sweet potato fries and they were tasty but not greasy/oily. Overall the food is inventive (well above what you would expect in an area not known for very good food), of good value, and well prepared. Yum!!! Last thing, they have a good selection of craft ales and beers on tap. The oatmeal stout is goooood!

My first impression of the three cheese burger: This hamburger is too pretty to eat. Downright photogenic. And lucky for me, it tasted even better than it looked. Onion rings were cooked very well, but were just OK.

Nothing better than a good burger...this place does not disappoint. Had a cheeseburger with waffle fries for lunch and I would go back. Fried mac balls (mac & cheese) very good. I'd like to try the mini beef wellington next time. The gal behind the counter was nice and the service was quick. Skip even came by our table to say 'hi'.

I wanted burger, fries, and a shake. Not the fast food kind, those are a dime a dozen and I can get those any time. Luckily, I stumbled upon Skip's. And even with a power outage just moments after siting down, Skip's delivered. I ordered the bacon and cheddar burger. The patty was thick, but juicy and flavorful. They added thousand island in the sauce. Unfortunately for me, I have a tiny tummy so I only managed to eat half the burger. I look forward to eating the rest of it. The fries were hot when they came out. Could have used a bit more salt, but that's why they put it on the table, right? My only disappointment, and the reason for leaving off a star was the ice cream shake. I'm a bit of an ice cream snob, so I'm picky how my shakes are made. Their shakes are made with soft serve ice cream. I need mine with real ice cream. Despite that, and the power outage, I will definitely be back for great burger and fries.

My fiancé and I come here after he gets off work. It is so comfortable and Skip just makes you feel like you're in your own kitchen. The mac n cheese fried balls are amazing and my fiancé is in love with the pesto chicken sandwich. Cannot wait until we go again!

Great find for this area! Limited menu, but I enjoyed the Pesto Chipotle Chicken sandwich. The sweet potato fries were a bit stringy, but overall good. Will definitely come back and try out the burgers.

Decided to check out this spot today after checking out reviews on yelp. I ordered the bacn cheddar burger burger was large and juicy. The cheddar tasted great as well. The criss cut fries were one of the next I've had. I was impressed with the customer service. Skip refilled all our drinks when he didn't have to excellent customer service and food.

What a great place to have dinner and fun. Oreo shake is delicious, not that super sugary flavor of most shakes/smoothies. I added pastrami to my burger - much to salty for me. But that's because I'm on a low sodium diet and no salt - let the food have its own natural taste - is fine with me.

  • Frankie P.

Skip's is a surprising find with great customer service and good food. Sadly Skip's is also supper salty to the point of having to stop eating after only two bites. When we arrived we ordered at the counter and the lady was very nice. I couldn't decide between two beers so they let me try them both, which was really nice of them. They brought out our appetizers pretty quickly and it was the best fried macaroni and cheese I have ever had. The cheese inside is creamy and melted to perfection. I also tried my husbands buffalo wing ravioli and it was also very good. Honestly, I could have just had a beer and apps and been good, but I ruined it with the veggie burger. I was excited to see that skip offers a real veggie burger and not a soy burger. The burger looked great but when I bit into it all I tasted was salt. I tried another bite and still could not get past all the salt. I think I tasted a little bit of broccoli but it was really hard to tell. I literally had to throw the rest away and get a veggie burger somewhere else which is disappointing since that was the only reason I came here.

Taking a cue from my fellow yelpers, I decided to give Skip's a try when I was in the area one day. If you blink, you'll likely drive right past this place, but it's worth the u-turn. My burger was juicy, delicious, and exactly what I hope a burger should be. Sweet potato fries are a standard option?! Yes, please! Skip obviously shows a lot of pride (see his yelp responses to negative reviews), and was friendly and fun with the customers in the dining room. He personally refilled customers' drinks, even though it was a self-serve fountain. In summary: I'll be back for sure, and I can't wait to hear Skip's rich radio-DJ worthy voice welcoming me back, asking what 'grabbed my eye' today on the menu, or how my food is 'treating' me.

Would give a 4 1/2 if I could- went in Friday night and the place was slammed, so my gf and brother ate out on the patio. It was a 100 degree day and we wished we'd been able to eat in the main dining room. However, Skip and the staff were great serving the folks seated outside, and the food ( my brother and I had the Western burgers) was delicious as always. Will be going back again very soon- have never gone away from here hungry or disappointed!

I literally live 3 houses down from this place and I've been watching it come to life. They totally made this place their own. The food is terrific and reasonably priced. I really hope this place is here to stay.

This was really fun. The owner has decades of experience in customer service and the resturant industry -and it shows. Skip introduced himself and will remember your name! How refreshing! He turned the little taco stand upside down and made it sparkle with fresh paint, and a fine scrub-down. Opened up the kitchen. It gleams now. The staff are all wearing sparkling white clean chef garb. The menu? Simple, inexpensive and fast. What a great new vortex to fall into in our little neck of the woods. It was busy when we arrived and busy when we left. I had the Asian Salad and a cold glass of Toasted Head. Super-picky GS had a Bacon Cheeseburger with Criss-Cut fries. Uncomplicated, fresh, delicious food. Skip had intimate knowlege of the meat in his burgers. Perfectly cooked and juicy. Pleasing my uber-picky 'other' with grunts of delight. Something about selected for both quality and lean content. But we were head-long into a little food high by then....mmmmm, burger. What a treat! Bravo Mr. Skip. Bravo! We'll be back. And we're bringing friends. Here's our unanimous summary of Skip's... Price 5/5 Service 5/5 Ambience 5/5 Quality & Taste 5/5 Keep it coming love...

My husband and I went to Skip's Kitchen last night for the first time. It was very busy, so we decided to get our food to go. They have a patio area, so maybe when it warms up there will be plenty of seating. Anyway, the staff was very friendly. The cashier has a deck of cards at the front, and the cards are the order numbers. They have you choose a card from the deck, and if you draw a joker you get your dinner for free! Last night must have been our lucky night, because we got the joker! Already a great first impression, and we hadn't even tried the food. I got the baby spinach salad (bacon, strawberries, almonds, blue cheese, etc), and my husband got the bacon and cheddar burger. Everything was very fresh and delicious! We didn't order fries, but another customer said they are excellent. We will definitely be back! And thanks Skip's Kitchen for the free dinner!

I really can't add anything else to what people have already said. This place is fantastic! First of all, to walk in the door and see a bunch of HAPPY employees! Now that's something! The place is clean - a HUGE thing for me. It's a simple menu - which is always a smart thing for a small business to do. Offer a few things and do them right. Skip's does that. We had the Western and Three cheese burgers. Yummy delicious and juicy. Real beef and not frozen with fillers. The onion rings were outstanding. And I loved the thin sweet potato fries. A small but nice selection of beer was well appreciated as well, and not just the usual mass produced domestics. Good for the entire family and some outdoor seating as well. When craving a good burger, this will be my go-to place! Now if I can only draw a joker...

Went here last weekend with the family and we loved it. You walk in grab a menu and find a place to eat, when you are ready to order you go up to the cashier. I love that concept. You grab your own drinks and wait for your food. The cashier brings you your food to your table. I ordered the turkey sandwich and a cup of soup (torilla soup, yummy) and my husband ordered the cheeseburger and fries plate, the burger was a great size and super good. My Mom ordered the full chopped salad which was full of items and my Dad ordered the pastrami sandwich which was packed full of pastrami (Im ordering that the next time). The owner was there and came up to our table and welcomed us. Overall, the experience was great and I deffinetly recommend coming here. I love great service and great food.

Very good! I live far away but I've gone out of my way four times to eat here. Flavorful, fresh and hearty portions. They care about the product. I wish there were more places like Skips. Simple food done right. Everyone neighborhood needs a Skips.

  • Matt J.

Love me some Skips. The food is probably worth 4 stars rather than 5 but Skip is such a good guy and the whole shindig is great I couldn't give them less than 5. Price isn't the best value in town but the food is really tasty, menu is good and the service and atmosphere is top notch for the type of restaurant. You will return often and try different things every visit.

I've been wanting to come here for awhile since they are always busy and look so inviting as I drive by. Tonight I did and was it great! I had the steak sandwich, it was fantastic!!! My daughter had the bacon burger and rated it one of her best (and she is a super picky teenager)! Really glad we stopped in, Skips will be a new favorite for us!!!

Long time fan who finally stopped procrastinating to Yelp. First, ROCK ON for a locally-owned, non-franchise diner in Arden-Arcade. My friends always suggest eating at those well-known competitors! Skip was behind the counter, and super friendly. BTW if you draw the joker card, that entree is on the house... cool concept. Don't forget to display the other playing cards at your table, so servers know where to bring your food. Food was tasty, esp. those garlic fries... no bueno if you're Team Edward! I got the turkey sandwich before Thanksgiving b/c I was too impatient. When you got a turkey craving, you gotta have it b/c there's waaay too much chicken in my daily life. The bird was moist, and I had a nice preview of the Thursday to come. I don't usually like TVs in a dining room b/c I subconsciously ignore my guests, and zone into the moving pictures... esp. that night since NCAA basketball was being played on an aircraft carrier (and NBA players were on strike). Note: small dining room fills up quickly, but tables turn in a reasonable time. Comfortable booths... I really like the window that looks onto El Camino. Very tiny parking lot; please be courteous to neighbors. Fun for families -- and yet still serves beer and wine! :D Also the pentacostal church across the street was rockin' on Friday night!

Skip's Kitchen is just what this little corner of Carmichael has been needing: casual gourmet food, great customer service and something besides a chain restaurant. Skip was very welcoming and gracious to us when we came in and answered all the questions we had about the menu. We ordered 2 of the Skip's original burgers with waffle-cut fries and I ordered the Skip's Blonde Ale (which BTW was like beer candy...smooth and sweet and delicious). The food was brought out to us in a reasonable amount of time. I would not expect lightning fast speeds since they make it as you order it. I did not mind waiting, there were two crystal clear big screen TVs mounted to the walls and the delicious beer keep me busy while I waited. The burger was one of the best I've had in a while! It was a 6 oz. lean beef patty that was perfectly seasoned...the beef was definitely the highlight of the burger (as it should be!). They also has this great sauce (which I found out later was just ketchup, mayo and coarse ground mustard...genius!) that brought the flavors out in the burger. The pickles were especially tart and crispy, which I love. The bottom of the bun did get a little soggy, but I think that is the price you have to pay for having a juicy burger...yeah? I didn't let that get me down. Also I would have preferred a whole leaf of lettuce instead of shredded iceberg...to me that just gets soggy too fast in a world where all the burgers are juicy. The fries - they were good, fresh solid fries. I should have gone for the garlic or sweet potato version, but I will try those out next time (I got a $5 off coupon from Skip for my next purchase because I pulled a spade card). When we got up to leave, Skip was right there at the door opening it for us and thanking us for coming in, asking if everything was all right, etc. He was very gracious and seemed genuinely happy to be running this establishment. I think this place is here to stay. The restaurant is clean, well decorated, welcoming and serves the sort of casual comfort food with a gourmet twist that you really can't find anywhere else in Carmichael.

Average to below average food, very slow service - burger and a salad took 20 minutes, and no changing table in the restroom.

I really hate trying new restaurants because I'm nearly alway disappointed in the service and the overall meal. I only noticed Skips from dinning across the Street at El Palmar (which went way done hill consistently and quality). Every week for a couple of month I see this small busy new restaurant named Skip's. For weeks I have seen the place so full I wondered if I could get a table. Did some research, read reviews and looked at their menu. Finally my daughter and I decided to go last night. Not a lot of parking, once you walk in your greeted by warn smiling faces. We looked at the menu again, ordered out food, waitress had a us pick a card out of the deck if we found the Jack it would be a free dinner, COOL. By the time I places my order and paid my table was set and we had our drink. BEST FOOD EVER, you have to try it, everything is delicious and if I could ask for something else to be added to the menu would be a side small dinner salad. -Tiffany

I hate to bash this place.....This was my first time to Skip's. We were lucky that we timed our arrival to get a table right away after the lunch rush. First of all, this place gets packed. Have a game plan. One person in your party snag a table while you grab menus & order. I think I must have picked the worst item on the menu. EVERYTHING else I saw brought out to other tables & my DC's food looked & smelled so good. So, I picked the Grilled Cheese. I was so disappointed. The bread was really good & i liked that it had seasoned salt on the outside. Beyond the tasty bread, my meal was a bummer! The problem with the grilled cheese was the mealy gross out of season tomatoes and the paltry fresh basil on a blob of melted cheese. I have a suggestion to improve this sandwich...During the tomato "off-season", use sun-dried tomatoes for flavor & texture. Ante up on the fresh basil, or use a house made pesto schmear instead. Use only 2 types of cheese that have a contrast in flavor. The 4 cheeses used were unidentifiable. Second, ditch the PLAIN sweet potato fries & the PLAIN criss cut fries. They are in a word.....PLAIN. Make the "specialty" fries the standard, as they are amazing, but not worth the $1 upsale.Your awesome $10 burgers deserve the specialty fries, Skip. My DC had an awesome burger & has gone 3 times w/o me & has loved every burger he has tried. I will go back & try the Wellington's( my original choice), or a burger.

If I were to rate this place solely on the food it would only get 1.5 stars, but the friendly staff made me bump it up to a 3. I saw a menu at my dad's house and had driven by Skip's Kitchen numerous times so thought I would try it. My dad told me to get a burger...he said it was very good when he went. But of course, I didn't listen and ordered a chicken Caesar salad. Very disappointing. It was two wedges of lettuce with a few pieces of processed chicken and some Parmesan cheese in it. Dressing drizzled over it. When I first saw it I was disappointed, and continued to be disappointed after tasting it. It tasted like a salad I could have made at home, and there weren't even any croutons/crustini on it. Basically $9 for a salad that didn't even fill me up nor taste good. I was expecting it to be more like Jack's salads...but it was nothing like Jack's. The grilled cheese sandwich that my daughter ordered was something I could have definitely made better at home. Two pieces of plain white bread with cheddar cheese. And the apple sauce that came as a side seemed like Mott's Applesauce. And to top it all off we waited 20-25 minutes for our food! The place was full, not an empty table in there but it looks like the cooking area in the kitchen is too small. Also, I didn't like how the owner's kids were in the kitchen area, playing around. The son was carrying around a ball and both kids were walking around with their backpacks back behind the counter. Didn't seem sanitary to have them back there like that. The owner was friendly and nice to my daughter though. And the girl who took our order was very friendly too. IF I go back I will have to try a burger.

Great food! They need to expand because it is too crowded and sometimes I pass on going in because it looks like a mad house.

As soon as I walked int the place I commented to my ladyfriend, "Is it me or is everyone in here really happy?" They were, laughing, smiling, shouting. It was like we had walked into a nitrous convention. So high marks for a fun evening. And thanks to the staff for being fun and totally on the ball, like Magic Johnson on the ball I'm saying. Foodwise, the burger was darn good, the macncheese balls were deep fried cheesebombs of cheesy ecstasy, the caesar salad was good enough to be worth twice the price. The steak sandwich was pretty bland, and the steak wasn't cut thick enough to chew through, but that was the only letdown. Be ready to wait for a table or bring Grandma with her walker to guilt other people out of their tables.

Went to Skip's recently with my honey and enjoyed a delish dinner, he had a BIG mushroom burger and I had the little Wellington's and a veggie side. My husband also had the fries, portions were big and the place was fresh and fun. I would like to go back to try a salad next. Doesn't look like the old Dairy Queen at all, the decor is quite nice. Best of all is Skip, he actually followed us outside to thank us for coming, now thats class in my book. A great, delish, fun place to visit. We are sure to return~

It was my wife's birthday yesterday and I told her to pick anywhere she wanted to go for lunch. She picked Skips and ordered the four cheese burger and Parmesan fries! We can't get enough of this place. The burgers are amazing and probably the nicest staff ever! Especially Skip!

Super friendly service, great food, a small but smart selection of beer and wine. My only wish is that I lived closer. Tips: When you order, the owner has you pick a card from the deck. If it's the joker, your lunch is free. The Mac N Cheese Puppies are tasty. The Pastrami Sandwich is outstanding, as is the Meatball Sandwich. Upgrade to garlic and parmesan waffle fries. You won't regret it. The dining room is small, so it gets packed easily. There is also a small patio for outside dining. You can always get your food to go. Family friendly. They even have a kids menu. Overall, an excellent little joint.

Love going to Skips with the family. The burgers and sandwiches are EXCELLENT! Always get the western burger and am never disappointed. Skip (the owner) always takes the time to stop by each table and make sure everything is perfect. Glad Skip was able to make a very successful business out of such a small place. Great job!!

All their food is good. The place always seems to be busy and to me that's a good thing. Skip the owner always seems to be the person helping you. It's pretty small inside but they do have outdoor seating. They also do this really fun thing with a deck of cards, if you pick the Joker the order is free! Never one but there's always the next time!

My MIL pulled in here for lunch. From the outside it doesn't look like much. Very small and you'd miss it driving by. We walked in at it was packed. The menu was good size and offered plenty of options. They have beer on draft ( automatic 3 stars ) I opted for the western burger cooked medium. The food took about 15 minutes, totally understandable as busy as it was. My burger was huge and cooked perfectly. Lots of pink and still very juicy. The criss-cut fries were good although unseasoned, should have gotten the garlic parm ones. no biggie. All in all I was very satisfied. Good food, good service. I'll definitely be back soon

Just loved this place - food was great, reasonably priced, and the people there seemed to be enjoying running a restaurant. The "pick a playing card" part was charming. The sweet potato fries were very good, as was the meatball sandwich. Nothing fancy - it looks like a remodeled Arby's and can get a bit loud. I plan to return soon!

We took our family of four (two adults, two kids) today and absolutely loved it. Stuffed burgers, select sandwiches and salads, and great options for the kids (especially the chicken strips - awesome - not to mention many healthy side options). Fries delivered many ways: regular, criss-cut, sweet potato...and with garlic parmesan, rosemary...great choices. As someone who lives in this area and pretty much relies on El Palmar as the sole destination place, Skip's is a WELCOME addition. Add in beer on tap and wine and a super friendly owner...we're coming back ASAP.

Had a quick bite at Skip's yesterday while on a visit to Sacramento. What a wonderful little place and a great experience. The owner (Skip) was there, taking orders, talking with customers, delivering meals.....insuring that everything was being perfectly executed. The food is great! Salads beyond fresh...hamburgers cooked to perfection. Skip has a GREAT wine and beer list ....which was a bit surprising, but VERY WELCOMED :-). Wishing I lived closer so this could become my neighborhood spot. I will definitely be back on my next visit....actually that just might become my reason for visiting Sacramento again!

Total fan! This is the old building for my fav Mexican food (El Palmar). But they expanded for obvious reasons. Small lil place but this new burger joint is definately a hot spot. Rumor says owners got an ego... Who cares food is good right! Cheers, O

Amazing food, super friendly staff, and fast service. The owner, Skip, is a friendly guy who is obviously dedicated to his craft and to his customers' satisfaction. Everything I have had has been perfect. A true gem.

I really appreciate when I get the sense that a restaurant is run by an owner who truly cares about providing a great product for his/her customer. Of course, the owner is also in business to make money, but it seems that the focus is the quality of the food and the customer's experience. Money and success are a by-product of the efforts. I get a strong sense that Skip's is such an establishment. Excellent juicy, flavorful burger with cherrywood bacon (whoa!) on a soft, slightly sweet brioche bun. Loved it and hope to eventually try everything on menu. Thank you, Owner, Chef, Managers, etc! You do a great job. And I love the "you pick the joker and I buy your meal"! Do not forget to try a freshly made ice cream sandwich on freshly baked cookies!!!

On National Cheeseburger Day, my cousin and I wanted to go get some burgers so I looked up online the best burgers in Sacramento. I got the usual list which had In&Out or Burgers and Brew but we've had that before. Saw the KCRA Top A list and I found Skip's Kitchen (they were in the top 5 the last time i saw). And we decided to come here. When we were ready to order, we were figuring out why there was a deck of cards on the counter. We thought maybe they were just bored until the cashier told us that if we picked the Joker, we get our meals for free. We actually ended up getting the Joker and it was an awesome moment for us. Anyways, I have to say that I am now a fan of Skip's Kitchen because their burgers are so freakin' delicious. They definitely know how to cook an excellent burger. They have great customer service cause they were refilling our drinks and throwing away our trash. We also got to talk to the Head chef there too, he was pretty cool. The second time I went, I took my brother. I kept raving about this place and he was pretty skeptical. I forgot what place he was telling me that he thought was the best burgers, but I told him this is going to be your new favorite. I ordered the salad this time and I have to say that it was soooooo good. Everything that was in that big bowl was delicious and I like the fact that they grilled the romaine heart too. Told my brother to get the bacon & cheddar burger and when he took that first bite, I automatically said "I told you so." He also ordered a kid's meal for my niece which was Chicken strips and he had a few bites and said that that was good too especially their BBQ sauce. So overall, Best burgers I've ever had, clean, and the atmosphere was very inviting. Try out this place and definitely do a review on them.

Skip's was PACKED when we arrived around 7:30 on Saturday night. We received a really warm greeting by the manager (Skip?) and placed our order at the counter. (You get your order number by choosing a playing card. If you choose the Joker, your meal is free. I love this idea!) Our wait for a table was very short, despite the crowd, and our food arrived soon after. Burgers: oh, my gosh - DELICIOUS! My husband ordered the mushroom and swiss burger; I ordered the three-cheese. The patty is sort of free-form and not perfectly round, like one I'd make myself at home, and SO juicy. The buns are brioche - nice and fresh. I ordered the garlic Parmesan criss-cut fries, which were heavily dusted with freshly grated cheese. My husband got the rosemary sweet potato fries. They were so crisp and really fragrant with plenty of rosemary. We had planned on ordering ice cream sandwiches for dessert, but were too full to even finish our meals. When we walked out, the manager was engaged in conversation with one of the employees. We had just stepped outside and the manager leaned out the door to thank us for coming in. All of the people working there seemed happy and friendly. It takes about 20 minutes to drive to Skip's from our house, but it's definitely worth it.

On a trip from Stockton to veiw an awesome art exhibit at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center in Carmicheal, we read reviews for the 65 restaurants in Carmichael and picked Skips. Wow, are we glad we did! I sent an email asking if they took reservations and other qudstions, and the owner personally wrote back! We all loved the atmosphere (open, well-lit, clean, large windows, friendly staff) AND the food and menu! Skip actually waited on our table and helped us alot. One of my friends is heard of hearing and had a walker and the staff was very patient AND helpful in serving all of our needs. The menu items are not typical of cafes and diners and if was refreshing to see wholesome, nutritious choices, not overcooked or over salted. The sweet potato fries were the bomb. Bravo! We encouraged anotehr friend from Stockton to visit Skips (he attended the same art exhibit at a later date) and he said it was the best cheeseburger he had eaten in years. Tasted like homemade (as did our chicken sandiwiches), and he repeated taht the patty was THICK, and handmade. The ower and his staff are very hospital to everyone, and we appreciate that they made our visit special. I will be going back in the future, for sure. I wish Skips Kitchen would open a restaurant in Stockton!

The sliders really are the BOM (bacon and onion marmalade! Oh my)! Chicken in the ceasar salad was moist and tender. Rosemary sweet potato fries are wonderful. Too bad we were too full to try the build your own ice cream sandwich, but then there's always next time! Thank you Skip, Beth and crew for a great meal!

Came here again and had the pastrami sandwich. It was good, not as good as the pastrami sandwich that Capitol Dawg used to serve, but solid. Next time, I will order it without mustard and ask for extra meat.

Lived near area for years: drove by this building when it was a Chinese food place, later a Mexican food place, & been noticing for maybe a year that it's now 'Skip's'. On a whim, yelped it, saw the great reviews, & went there last night with BF. Clean! Skip working right next to his crew! Fun (& hopeful) moment of picking from a deck o' cards, possibility of a free meal. Skip told me the Mini Beef Wellingtons were tasty but not filling (Honesty!) like a meal, but that's ok. I actually have a small stomach & can't eat a lot at once. Got the Wellingtons, being fried not baked surprised me a little, but they're meant more as an appetizer. Liked them, especially the mushroom-red wine sauce that went with them, BF loved them. Shared BF's crisscut fries (Tasty!), envied his burger (Beautiful!), envied someone else's chocolate shake. Bathroom: clean. Environment: clean, friendly. Skip & a staff member went around filling glasses. Ambience: Excellent - small place, almost like just hanging with a crowd of friends. Skip made a point of calling customers by name. Definitely will return. I want a burger & feel like gambling with that deck of cards (wonder if there's REALLY a joker in there??) :)

It might not look like much from the outside, but this joint serves up some delicious food. Took the family there for lunch and between the buffalo chicken raviolis, burgers, and sandwiches, we left utterly stuffed and satisfied. I'll definitely be heading back to try a few of the other dishes I was considering.

Had lunch here today for the first time. I loved the mushroom burger and the sweet potato fries are some of the best I've ever had. My husband had the pastrami and really enjoyed it. Excellent customer service, clean and friendly atmosphere. Only draw back is the obnoxious noise level inside which makes it hard to have a conversation. It would be great if there more tables for outside seating. We'll try it again for take out or maybe mid afternoon when there isn't such a big crowd.

Just left and was very pleased. Had the sliders, the bacon onion marmalade was delicious and definitely made the burger. Owner was super friendly and chatted with each table , making sure everything tasted ok. Very hands on ! Will definitely be back . My wife and I went to Skips the other day for lunch for 1st time...Skip greeted us at the counter, shook our hands..very personable guy..one of the nicest guys you could meet...had us choose a Jack out of a stack of cards to get our lunch for FREE..didn't get it though...what we did get was an absolutely SUPERB meal...I had the salad and the wife had the Pastrami sandwich with sweet potato fries...the salad was fresh and full of flavor..the Pastrami the BEST we ever have..and we have had a lot of Pastrami elsewhere...One of the best unkown places in Sacramento that I know will become a cult favorite!!!! Definitely going back!!!

Best burgers I've found anywhere in Sacramento County. Look at my profile and you'll see great reviews for the others I've tried over the years. Don't get me wrong, my positive reviews of the others still stand. Great places. But Skip's just took first place. Around 4th or 5th visit I tried a sandwich there. Extremely good. Service is also extremely good. I will warn people with good intent that this place can be quite packed on weekend nights, but once you get in and get a table it's amazingly fast service. This place gets packed for a reason. Yet despite coming in on a Saturday night (first time for me, I'd always been here on weekdays) we got our food within 5 minutes (party of two). I was blown away. I will say that our order was pretty simple (no appetizers or anything, just a straight burger and sandwich and drinks), but on a jam packed Saturday night? Impressive.

Great food, friendly service with an awesome atmosphere. I would definitely return regularly! I especially love that the owner, Skip, has been there each time we've dined there. He is passionate about his business which is a rare thing to find in the restaurant industry. Keep up the good work!

My favorite place in the neighborhood! The food is amazing and the draft beer selection is equally delicious (including Anderson Valley and Firestone). The owner personally greets every table and takes and active interest in your experience. The place is very clean, friendly atmosphere, and every patron has a shot at winning a free meal.

Most everything at Skip's is homemade from scratch so it tastes even better than it looks, plus it doesn't have processed ingredients. My kids love it too. When we eat in it's always a pleasant experience. When we do takeout I love that I can order/pay online because I can just walk past the often long line and pick up my order. Super efficient. Very friendly people. I come to Skip's kitchen every chance I get for over a year now. It's a bout time I wrote a review. Great job, Skip! You are officially the ICON of Carmichael! Oh, and by the way I love that veggie burger and I'm not even a vegetarian!

I went with friends and we ordered a few different things to share. We had the Asian Salad with chicken, jumbo shrimp, Grilled Caesar with steak, and Garlic Parmesan Fries. All of the food was cooked perfectly and tasted incredible. The service was excellent, the staff was friendly and helpful, inexpensively priced and the overall experience was as good as you can get. I'll definitely be returning!

Burgers are very good, service is also, especially the hot girl at the cash register! I would go again just to see her! Out door seating is a good idea but it's out front on a busy street in the sun. I would move it behind and let people park in front.

I agree with a lot of the previous statements. It is SUPER small, so either go at an off hour or expect a wait to sit. We went at about 2:00 and Skip was nice enough to suggest we order and then wait for seating. We were able to be seated before our food came. In the meantime, I chatted briefly with Skip and the waitress, who were both incredibly nice. They also have a cute gimmick where you draw a card (which becomes your table #) and if you draw a joker, your lunch is free. In any case, to the food! I went with my boyfriend, and mine was amazing. I ordered the Western BBQ burger (i think that was what it was called), and the meat had an amazing flavor, and the BBQ sauce was the perfect sugary tang. I had criss cut fries with it, which were fresh and delicious. My boyfriend ordered the three-cheese burger, and he wasn't AS thrilled, mostly because the bleu cheese overwhelmed the flavor of the burger. He had the sweet potato fries, which were also fresh and crispy, but not my favorite personally. Still good! All in all, the combination of delicious food and really sweet staff (the owner talked to us as if we were old friends) make this a place I would definitely go back to again and again.

I absolutely love this place. I drove past it a few times and always wanted to try it. I love trying new little burger joints. The staff is very friendly and personable and it seems like the owner is always there, which I personally like. He has a conversation with everyone who walks through his door and makes you feel like you are sitting at his dining room table in his home. Well I guess in a sense we are when we eat there. When you order your food they ask you to pick a card from the deck which is your order number, but the best part is if you get the joker then your meal is free. Pretty crafty I think. I've had no luck with the joker yet, but someday. They cook your burger just how you order it and there garlic fries are amazing. This place is very clean, comfortable, delicious. My only complaint is the time they close. I wish they would stay open later maybe midnight. I think with the new bar across from them that they would get a lot of business, however then you have to deal with drunk people. Who knows they might give it a shot in the future. I recommend Skips to everyone I know and am a loyal fan myself. If you appreciate a good burger, good fries, and great service with a decent price I say give it a go.

I don't think myself, nor my family will be returning. I've been on a long business trip (still am) and left my 16 year old daughter some money for her ex-favorite restaurant. I got the text of "I'm at skips." 20 minutes later I got a call of her crying her eyes out and complaining of how she was standing in line for the full time, and originally only 1 person was ahead of her. 3 people had stepped in front of her as if she is non-existent, and my daughters social anxiety and depression doesn't help that situation. Sorry, but not the atmosphere I want my kid in. I know that the "ordering area" is wide open, so if an employee saw it happen, they should have either stepped in or said something.

Love this place. Full disclosure - I am a friend of the owners (of which there are many, they are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet). Last Saturday night, my wife and daughter and I went to Skips Kitchen. It was the fourth time I'd been there, and I'll say that Skip has taken some of the criticisms you see here in the less positive reviews to heart. While there may have been some issues with the speed of the food arriving or the lines out the door, Skip has worked hard to address those. We arrived just around dinner rush time, and there was a non-stop stream of people coming through the doors the entire time we were there. The staffing levels were excellent to handle the business, and our food arrived hot and quickly. I tried the Pastrami sandwich for the first time and it's probably the best thing I've eaten there (which is saying something). My wife loved her steak sandwich and my daughter put a hurting on the kid's chicken strips meal. The wife especially enjoyed the rosemary sweet potato fries. Plus, I got to have an icy cold beer on tap and watch a bit of the college football game on the High-Def. Again, as I know the owner pretty well, you might take this review with a grain of salt - but I will say that knowing Skip - he won't ignore the feedback, whether it's positive or negative. If you go in and don't enjoy your meal, let him know and he'll make it right.

Stopped by Skips because I work out in that area and have driven by it a few time... even while they were prepping to open. It's a quaint little joint! I had a delicious salad... The Heap. I would suggest a maybe a spring mix instead of romaine to make it feel "fancier". And Skip... the owner... just the nicest guy! Makes me want to go back just to say "HI SKIP" and play his card game. :) A great local business to support in the heart of Carmichael... Arden Arcade.

Great selection and service. Stopped in for a quick lunch and was pleased I did. The burgers are unique and tasty. Not your average hunk of meat on a tasteless bun. whether you are solo, dinning for two or with the whole gang Skip's offers something for everyone with a smile!

This place is always packed! We went last Saturday and now I know why. The menu wasn't huge but the meals offered all looked delish coming out of the kitchen. The three cheese burger was hands down the best burger I've ever eaten. The hand made 1/2 pound patty was cooked medium with brie swiss and blue cheeses. Skip and staff are fun and friendly. Overall my new favorite place to get a burger. I can't wait to go back.

  • Tim G.

I live in the area & every time I drive by this place its packed! After a workout, I had to give it a try. When I got there, the place was packed (as usual). I figured it must have amazing food, this many people cant be wrong. I ordered the steak sandwich. I found a table and I waited. and waited. and waited. and waited. I noticed that every table that finished their food and left was on a first name basis with the owner, Skip. He was hugging the wives and kids of all these families as they left. This place is packed with his friends? Is Skip the head of the local PTA or something? A little league coach? The head of the neighborhood watch? He literally knew 90% of the people that walked in the door! My expectations began to fall. A solid 30 minutes later (!), my steak sandwich arrived with a side of sweet potato french fries. I took my first bite and I could immediately tell I had been had. People aren't here for the food, they're here because they know Skip. I immediately doubted the validity of all these yelp reviews. This steak sandwich was not worth anywhere near the $10.50 I paid for it. It wasnt very big, the bun tasted like it had come straight out of the package (not toasted or anything). I honestly felt that any place could recreate this blah steak sandwich. I finished my food and left. I will not be going back to this place ever again. Sorry Skip, I guess we will never be on a first name basis. Good luck in little league next season! I'm giving this place one star due to 3 issues. 1. The wait time for my steak sandwich was horrendous. 2. The steak sandwich was incredibly run of the mill and definitely was not worth $10.50. 3. I'm upset that the 4/5 rating this place currently has on Yelp is VERY misleading. I'm sure I'll feel the wrath of the PTA for bashing the scout master's restaurant. EDIT: Skip, I really want this place to be better than it is. Step up the flavors! Step up the portion size or lower the prices! Surrounding your business with "yes men" (ie. yeah Skip, this sandwich is delicious! I'd gladly pay that price for it!) is a sure fire way to make your business fail. Ask people that you don't know what they think of your food. I think you'll get a completely different answer than asking someone who has known you for years. I'm just being brutally honest here.

We love the idea of a small locally owned restaurant and have been so excited to try Skip's Kitchen. The menu is small but we figured that it's good to start with a few things so you can do them very well. Unfortunately the details are still being worked out. The burger was really good but the bun wasn't anything special and local fresh tomatoes would have made such a difference. It looked like they were a little overwhelmed and we had to wait a few minutes for our order and we found that the crisscut fries were barely cooked when we got home. The chipotle pesto chicken sandwich was missing flavor (pesto? chipotle?)and those damn tomatoes made me sad. The sweet potato fries were tasty but everything seemed like basic grocery store items that I could have put together myself at home for less then $20. Please Skip's I want you to be better. Get some awesome bread and some tasty fresh local veg. I love the idea of you but I just want you to be better.

Tried this place out and was impressed for the most part was fairly happy. The place is small and seating is limited but the food is delicious. I ordered the original burger and got criss cut fries and a vanilla milkshake. The burger had good flavor and fries were alright but nothing to rave about. The vanilla milkshake was good and was not too thick. The ambiance is fun and open. You order and they have an iPad as their register which is cool and you draw a card from a deck of cards. If you get a joker, your meal is free, but if you get any other card, the card is your order number. Fun place, good food but is a little too expensive for the food in my opinion.
