Diabetics at Village Inn

Village Inn is a tough place for diabetics, and you must be extra cautious while ordering food at the Village Inn, especially if you're a diabetic. You must also skip the shakes as well as other juices from the beverage menu. Almost all the dinner items on the menu are high in sodium except Grilled Tilapia and 6 oz. Top Sirloin & Toast. Charming and elegant B&B. The rooms are lovely with all the creature comforts you need. Including free Wifi. We were greeted by Mandy, who was extremely accommodating. At checkout, the breakfast was first rate. I would strongly recommend the Inn.

We stayed there this weekend for our wedding and I have to say it was a nice experience....but there were a few disappointments. The hotel itself is very nice. The room we stayed in was the Capitola room and it was huge. The bathroom was huge too! The unfortunate part was that the rooms do not have air conditioning which is fine but with the afternoon heat blaring in the windows, by the time you go to bed, your room is very very warm. Even with the little portable fan they have. The bathroom is very nice and big but a) the shower temperature was HOT.... I could not get it to cool down, and b) the water pressure was weak and even turned off during my shower at one point! Thankfully I didn't have soap on my face as I waited for it to start up again! Check in was fine. We were told about breakfast and I was very happy when my dietary preferences were accommodated. It was also tasty! And the fresh fruit was yummy...lots of berries and melons which are my fave. Parking...parking was fine the first night because it was not a full house that night, but Saturday night we had to park around the side. Thankfully there was a spot because had there not been I am not sure what we would have done! The biggest disappointment however is that no one even acknowledged that it was our wedding weekend! Not only had we brought a handful of rooms as business to the hotel, but it was our "honeymoon" night and to be honest I don't even remember hearing a congratulations. I used to be a sales manager in a hotel chain in San Francisco...when a guest is celebrating something not only do you acknowledge it, but you try to make it memorable...and this was totally not done. Not even a card on our bed. I've gotten better treatment for a random birthday. Pros: lots of snacks on hand throughout the day, yummy breakfast, spacious rooms, comfy beds, housekeepers were super nice cons: little parking, hot rooms, crappy water pressure, not the friendliest management, and lack of attention to detail Oh! And be very careful what room you select! There is one that is right off the main lobby...literally like you are in a house and your room is off the living room. I would have been MAD had that been my room! Also, the library room is super cool if you have an additional guest... the upstairs loft area is actually very private for being connected!

My wonderful girlfriend surprised me with a night away for my birthday at this quaint little place and I can say that it was well worth the price. We stayed in the Costa de Sol room at it has beautiful. The decor was really nice and well kept. The shower in the room has two heads. I got to turn both of them on and just have the water really hit me from both sides. The bed was, as my girlfriend put it, "a cloud." The bed is huge and definitely big enough for two people to really spread out and still have a lot of room between one another. The addition of the fire place adds to the room ambiance and it is definitely nice to turn it on at the end of the day and just watch the flames and make the room nice and cozy. The location is superb, only a 10 minute walk from the beach and the Capitola Village. The service was great. Getting breakfast brought to your room is amazing. I still don't know how the small girl at the front brought up to our upstairs room the cart and the food! We will definitely be staying there again in a different room

1 star for being in a nice location near the beach/restuarants. 1 star for Mandy's customer service. Here is why they only deserve 2 stars: 1. This place is dated!! The restroom needs better cleaning. Some of the grout between the tiles in the restroom bathtub and sink are grey and i could see some sort of calcium carbonate? deposit from the faucet! Nasty there! There is also cracks in the tub. 2. The toilet has the nasty "ring". 3. This place is one of the most expensive places to stay in capitola and i was disappointed how dated and dirty the inside/outside looks. For almost $300 a night, i expected a clean bathroom and no dust/spider web around the house. I usually stay in the brand name hotels like Hilton/Sheraton This place is not luxurious and i am telling you if you are picky on cleanliness, don't stay here. 4. You get your own parking but Parking has a very tight space in a driveway. 5. Hotel access is not convenient. You get two keys. One for the garage gate and one for the room.

We loved this place! We spent the weekend here for my birthday and it was wonderful. My husband chose this place based on reviews and its proximity to Shadowbrook, where he took me for my birthday dinner. I loved everything about the Inn, it's a beautiful and quaint place. We stayed in the Valencia room which is in the building behind the main building. Our room was huge and it felt like we had our own private little cottage. My husband wanted where we were staying to be a surprise so I had no idea what the room would be like and I was blown away! It was a rainy day so we were welcomed into our room by a nice warm fire in the fireplace and instrumental music playing on the big flat screen TV. I thought it was a nice touch. We enjoyed our massive deep soaker tub as well. In the evenings they have wine, tea, snacks and a little dessert in the lobby. It was nice to have a late night snack. Overall a lovely and romantic stay. I can't wait to go back!

Lovely Inn. Our room was cute & cozy. The Paris room. The brathroom is awesome-double showers. Breakfast was delicious -coconut pancakes. I felt like we were in an adorable french bed and breakfast. There is always something snackable around. Great location. We walked everywhere. This is definitely worth the price!

Loved our experience. We will definitely stay again. Our host was amazing and made us feel like family. We even got reservations at an amazing restaurant because of her. Our suite was a themed suite in a Japanese style and we loved it in every way. Can't wait to come back.

I don't have anything but good things to say about this Inn. We stayed at the Kyoto room and it was very very nice. It was private with a zen garden, hot tub, and an overhead shower. It was very peaceful and quiet. The innkeeper was very informative and helpful with our stay. Extra stars for getting me some plates so I can take my breakfast on the road! *For the Kyoto room, I would probably suggest they give us disposable slippers since walking around on the hardwood floor isnt that great if the floor is not cleaned well. OR bring your own slippers. The inn is located close to the beach which is quite nice and it is only about 6-10min walk. Staying at this inn would give you some discounts at some restaurants located at the beach...another plus! I would definitely come back again. :)

Absolutely wonderful! It was enchanting staying in the PARIS ROOM. We have never been to Europe, and this was the closest we've ever got to it. Very, very pleased with the service of the attendant and the comprehensive introduction and warm reception prior to receiving our room. We felt like we got a steal of a deal. We used Expedia and got about 50% off. Much better environment than your run of the mill hotel stay. We stayed at several hotels during our week in the area including the Marriott in Oakland, and my wife and I by far enjoyed our stay here the best. The breakfast was delicious. Pastries were delightful. It was cool to have the hot tub just outside our room. French doors swinging open into the courtyard area to enjoy our breakfast in 60 degree weathers made things quite memorable. Did I mention you are within walking distance to downtown Capitola stores/restaraunts and the beach!!! Thank you, Inn at Depot Hill! We would strongly, strongly recommend trying this out at least once. We were in the area for a family reunion. We will be back if we ever visit the area again.

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary (29 years) and it was great. Our room (Capitola Beach) was nicely appointed. The staff was friendly and attentive and the breakfast was delicious both mornings. The location is great for walking to Capitola Village. We would definitely stay here again.

My wife and I stayed at "Inn at Depot Hill" for the first time March 26 & 27, 2015. The inn has a charming aesthetic along with staff that are focused on customer service. Where the inn loses its appeal is with the physical upkeep, particularly the rooms. We stayed in the rear two-story building. Not sure when these were last updated, but they need a lot of TLC, both with regards to wear and tear, and meeting current traveler standards and conveniences. We stayed in the Kyoto room the 1st night and were allowed to switch to a different room right above it for the second night. To reach the Kyoto room we stepped down into a small Japanese style courtyard with slate covered steps. The slate had not been swept or deep cleaned in a very long time. To enter the room one steps from the slate onto a wood deck. The wood was filthy and worn requiring refinishing. The courtyard is suppose to be an attribute to the room experience, but it had empty pots from plants that had been removed, plants and scrub area that needs attending, screening along the fence that is warn and drooping, and exposed plastic water pipes wrapping the area. Not appealing to sit and enjoy. Upon entry to the Kyoto room we encountered a very stuffy, hot room, and discovered that there is no HVAC system: no air conditioning, no air circulation system, and a fireplace for heating. We were told we could open the entry door on one side and a door from the bathroom on the other with the possibility of a cross breeze, but neither were screened. Other than this, there is one small window in the bathroom with no other windows that open. Being early evening we could not keep the doors because of the mosquitoes that showed up in droves. This in addition to the security concern of having open doors. Beyond the key lock there is no other way to secure the doors, so much for security. I looked around for drinking water and found two very tiny complementary water bottles. Two bottles that combined, would not fill one glass. I guess this is what $385 a night buys. The night was rough, but not just from the heat. The mattress had a topper that did little to improve on the lumpy hard mattress below. As I tried to sleep I could hear a humming sound from behind the headboard wall. I later determined that the headboard shares a wall with an electrical utility closet just on the other side. I was also contending with 5 bright lights from the courtyard that I could not control, which shined through the thin paper Shoji screens (no shades or curtains). Consequently, I could only sleep for a few hours during the night. Adding to our annoyance was the bathroom door which has a loud crashing sound, and the table lamp shades that tend to fall off. The next morning we came to realize there are no hooks for hanging towels/robes in the bathroom, or in any other location in the unit. The shower floor has a synthetic wood platform that is deformed and wobbly. The slate tile on the walls and floor have soap and dirt scum. The sink area left little to be desired, dirty warn soap dish, other broken warn trays. The old soaking tub is difficult to enter, made of fiberglass that is dingy and not very appealing. The room has no safe, no fridge, and a poor setup for viewing the TV. This place was probably quaint 20 years ago, but upkeep has lagged making this a sub-standard place to stay. The next day we changed to a room called the Valencia. A small an improvement over the Kyoto, but still badly in need of updating, particularly the ridiculous shower and bath arrangement that requires climbing up and down 3' of steps.

We have stayed twice so far and it is an amazing place to get away and escape to various rooms that are decorated exactly for you to destress. The little touches of hor'dervous served and breakfast brought to your room so you can wake up to a private time by the fireplace in the morning. The innkeeper Mandy is wonderful I love Capitola, baron rooms so far...

What a great and distinctive B&B. Gigi greeted us warmly and helped us with restaurant ideas. I recommend staying here and dining at Shadowbrook. Ask the desk to set up the special Shadowbrook cab for you. (It's sooo cute!) We stayed in the Capitola Beach room. It was beautifully decorated and the bathroom was a marble wonderland. Large skylights let in lots of air and light. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Evening wine and cheese were delicious as well. I love historic inns and this is one of the best!

Great atmosphere! Delicious food and history! The innkeepers were accommodating to my gluten free needs which made my stay extra special. Breakfast in our room was a special treat. You can easily walk to town at any time. We enjoyed sunset at Zeldas patio. We didn't use our car the two nights we were here. This is a wonderful venue for an anniversary or a quiet honeymoon.

This is a nice b&b. It's clean & looks like it was once really nice, but is just a tiny bit shabby now. Mandy was sweet & welcoming & the turn down service was nice. Breakfast was presented well but limited without options. They don't have beach towels to check out, so bring your own. The bed wasn't bad but wasn't super comfortable either. We heard they had dessert in the evening but it's little truffles with port. Capitola is a great beach town & worth the visit. For what it is, it's on the expensive side. A little updating & a few more details & it would be more in line with the price.

I can't comment on the price since my girlfriend paid. Thanks! We did hear the people above us and this made me appreciate the fact that my condo days are over. The "jacuzzi"was basically a soaking tub with jets. Luckily my gal is petite and I'm a small guy so we both fit but certainly not big enough for getting Randy ..... if you know what I mean. Also .... the jacuzzi was under a canopy that had dead vines over it and it had rained so compost tea was dripping onto the wannabe jacuzzi. Oh well ...... it was better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick! I enjoyed the fireplace, modern TV and the fact that that brought us a DVD player when we asked. I did hear some traffic noise but I'm about deaf so it wasn't too loud.

We absolutely love Capitola and visit often, and have walked by this inn numerous times. I decided it would be fun to spent a Friday night here in March for a belated 30th anniversary celebration, and had a nice experience. (Note: Saturdays require 2 nights). We stayed in the Valencia room, which is spacious and very close to how the photo represents it. The room is located in a separate unit behind the main house, along with at least one other room. We discovered this by realizing the door in the bedroom area actually led to a hallway. The other room's front door was right next to our bed area, which felt super awkward. Other than that little nuance, the jacuzzi bath was nice, although I made a comment about being glad to be agile enough to get in and out, it would not be suitable for anyone that has mobility issues. Also, note that this is the shower as well. You have to climb into this huge, deep tub (which was awesome as a tub) to take a shower. This place is close enough to walk into town for dinner, which we did. Highly recommend Paradise Beach Grille. Breakfast was awesome, and the staff was really friendly. I was impressed with everything they served. I want to give a shout out to the staffer who took care of us, both Friday night AND Saturday morning bright and early. I asked if this was her normal schedule and she indicated she was covering for someone who called in sick. I also asked if she'd worked their long since she was so knowledgable, and she'd only worked there three weeks. I wish I could remember her name, but it was whoever was working 3/21-3/22 2014. Thanks a bunch! Bottom line, this is a bit pricey but you are paying for the location as well as the inn accommodations, We will return for another visit.

We stayed in the Paris Room over this past Valentine's day weekend. The staff was awesome, and very helpful with recommendations - places to go locally, etc. Breakfast in our room was a nice touch, and the room was big and comfortable. Loved having a fireplace. Will definitely stay again!

Do you want to be spoiled? Come here. My husband and my ten year old daughter stayed 2 nights over the weekend, in the Libary room. It has 3. Levels. You walk in and first level has bathroom and bookshelves with 2 manly chairs between a chess table! Upstairs in a wee alcove with a draw curtain bed and tv that my daughter took over! Downstairs was our bed! It was like sleeping on a fluffy cloud of heaven! The fireplace was great at night to combat the fog! The cheese and wine apps are to die for! Really high quality cheese and wine, yummy cookies and nightly truffles! Breakfast was yummy for the adult but french toast with orange marmalade syrup and not log cabin did not sit well for the wee baron! So I had 2 breakfasts! Highly recommend this inn! A five minute walk to beach! We did not hear much noise as previous reviews said!

Stayed here for two nights after getting married at the Shadowbrook & can't say enough wonderful things about this place! It's quaint, yet elegant and sophisticated while still homey. A delicious homemade breakfast is delivered to your room every morning and dessert & drinks are offered every night. Staff was attentive & made us feel at home. Inn is a short walk from the beach, which we thought was perfect since you can easily get to it, but you don't hear the esplanade noise at night. This is not a hotel experience, but rather a home-away-from-home. Truly the perfect getaway spot!

We have been coming to this B&B for over 15 years and it has always been our #1 favorite. Our first visit was on our honeymoon. We were in awe. The customer service was truly remarkable. The gentleman innskeeper who assisted us was the epitome of grace and courtesy. The interior design of the rooms is unparalleled. It used to be that the service and amenities were unparalleled. That is no longer the case. We hope that management pays attention to these reviews, as we really miss the way this B&B used to be. Over the last several visits we have noticed that things are getting a bit shabby. Fabric stained or worn out, things that have been replaced with cheaper versions. Notably, the Delft room replaced their 2 person tub with a very tiny version that really can't be called 2 person at all. They used to have music playing in recessed speakers. They no longer work. Our visit this time was in the Railroad Baron room. Besides the usual peeling paint and faded fabric, you can see by looking at previous pictures of the room in the lobby book or the framed sketch displayed what the room SHOULD look like. Unfortunately, it no longer does. The most notable decline in this hotel is the service. Most of the time, the door to the office remains shut, even if someone is there. The staff will answer questions but do not appear overanxious to go out of their way. The breakfast is still good, but falls short of the variety it used to provide. The appetizers from 5-7 are good, but again, not what they used to be. We went to enjoy some at 6:30 and all that was left was a couple of cheese squares and a few scattered leftover veggies. Apparently they don't restock. If that is the case, they need to say that appetizers are at 5, first come first served. We used to receive turndown service at this inn, but that didn't happen for us either night we were here. The dessert used to be full dessert in the evening, but has now been replaced with the presumably cheaper truffles. Parking is atrocious as other reviews remark upon, but we always overlooked that before when everything else was so good. I found having to park over a block away more irritating this time after leaving our spot to go dine at the WORST restaurant I have ever eaten at on the inn's recommendation and coming back to no parking spaces. I know what this hotel can be. We've experienced it at it's prime. We hope that the owners will provide more maintenance and stop doing cheap replacements. And do something about that customer service!! Some updating of TV types (getting rid of the VHS!) and more dietary options for breakfast is also something needed in this modern world. I'm sure we will return to this inn, but we are getting closer to the point where the cheap changes will be too much and we won't be able to stomach what this place has become. Our review of this inn is not meant to dissuade people from coming; rather, it is to encourage the owners to display the love and attention to detail that this inn originally enjoyed.

The pro's: The towels & bed linens are clean and nice, the bed was comfortable. The breakfast on Sunday was excellent! Convenient location for walking downtown or even to Shadow Brook. The staff was helpful. For these reasons I might go back. The con's: This place is expensive, and it needs some work. The curtain on the door from our room to the patio was filthy and frayed. The jacuzzi tub was broken and had not been used for along time because it was dirty. The carpet needed cleaning. The only 2 chairs in the room were very uncomfortable. My advice is CALL to reserve a room, and talk to a manager. You can't tell where the rooms are located from the website. Some rooms are more private than others. Some rooms are in the historic building and some are adjacent. This place could be so very special with a little TLC, and as much as they charge, it's tough to understand why it's not. PS-We stayed in Cote D' Azur.

I stayed 2 nights at Inn at Depot Hill in the Stratford on Avon room. I loved my room! It's huge, luxurious, quiet, very comfortable, cozy and on and on. My favorite part was having breakfast brought up to my room. You can choose to eat in the dining room or eat in your room and since I like eating breakfast in my PJ's, I chose to eat in. The food was absolutely delicious both mornings and elegantly presented. Very nice way to start the morning! The staff that were on duty during my stay were warm and welcoming. I met some other guests that had stayed there before and said they had always had a great experience. Besides breakfast they offer an appetizer hour, a port/wine hour, and there were cookies and coffee available too. The location is perfect. You can walk to Capitola Village and do some shopping or go out for dinner. The walk is a bit of uphill/downhill.

My husband and I went for a romantic getaway and the Inn at Depot Hill did not disappoint! We had an amazing stay, the staff was friendly, the place was well kept and the room was so nicely decorated. Inn at Depot Hill has an yelp rating of 4.5 stars and is the #1 B&B on Trip Adviser of Capitola. Maybe my expectations were too high based off these ratings but this Inn really fell flat for my wife and I. We booked four nights but checked out early after only 2 since we were not having a good time at all. Positives: - The lobby of this B&B is beautiful. It's like being in a giant library antique furniture, paintings, and plenty of seating to relax in while sipping on complimentary wine. - Every evening at 6pm they provide complimentary wine, cheese, veggies, and roasted garlic. The first night they had a spicy cheese dip but the second night it was only the garlic. - Our room was huge with a nice fireplace, living room, bed, and private patio with "jacuzzi". Also had a huge marble bathroom with dual rain shower heads. - Our first evening Lauren was working. She was sooooo friendly. She went out of her way to make sure everything was perfect. It's sad she's the only employee that makes any effort to make the guests feel comfortable. Cons -Check-in time was at 3pm yet our room wasn't ready until 4:45pm. -Location is horrible. We had the most expensive room at the inn at our view was a parked car, the "jacuzzi", and the patio. The inn is located at a busy intersection so we heard cars, trucks, and motorcycles zooming past constantly. There's even a wonderful working train track which luckily only had a train go by during the day. -Lauren was excellent. The next night Jordan was working. She made it feel like we were all just a bother. I got a bad vibe off her and in no way did this feel like a 4 diamond establishment. - Nice large room with the most uncomfortable chairs, couch, and bed I've ever used. Since there's no view and all the furniture was horrid you really couldn't relax in the room. My back was killing me from the lumpy mattress. Bug traps laid out in the closet were a nice surprise. Martha Steward stayed in this room... wonder what she would of thought of bug traps. - "Jacuzzi" was a single person bathtub placed outside. Yea it had air jets but it's an effen bathtub. The new hotel we moved to has a literal two person jacuzzi. -Breakfast. I've stayed in many B&B and this was the most uncreative and tasteless breakfast I've had. 99% of the guests are in the 70+ age group I guess bland is popular the the majority. Zero creativity here. The town and surrounding area just wasn't for us. The fact we couldn't relax in this very expensive hotel caused us to check out early. We're now in our favorite town of Cambria, CA in a room costing $50 less with a full on ocean view, 2 person actual jacuzzi, and great service. I'll pass on Capitola and the Inn at Depot Hill in the future.

I have to say that looking over the internet pictures of this place, it looked promising. But to tell the truth, it was just Meh! After traveling for over 7 hours to get here, we had to stand in the lobby until almost 5 oclock (we got there at 4)! Our room wasn't ready. Can you offer us a glass of something and offer us a seat? We were exhausted! The room that looked lovely online was actually disappointing. The furniture was refurbished antiques but the material was faded and the cushions deflated. Some pieces actually had coffee stains. I know that people come and go in these places and things happen but this place charges top dollar for these rooms and I expected more for our $289 - $300 per night fee. Water pressure was poor at best and so was the internet connection. Parking at the Inn is sparse and the older group took up more then one spot so if you didn't get there early enough - your out of luck. Also, there are parking meters everywhere in this town so if you don't bring a crap load of quarters....you're out of luck! The matress was a old feather bed and the pillows smelled musty so we tossed them aside and used our own (thank goodness we brought them). The furniture was pretty even if they were worn but they were also very uncomfortable so we had a hard time being comfortable in this room. There was a window that looked out to the parking lot but the staff was constantly walking past so there was no privacy. There is no air conditioning here so hopefully you go during the cooler months. I thought that the food was good and so was the appetizers. To be honest - this place is simply over priced!!! PERIOD! It seemed like we were visiting a senior home - everyone was elderly here...although the guests were sweet, they kind of looked at us as though we were in the wrong place. My husband and I took the hint and quickly checked out on the second day and headed for Moonstone Beach in Cambria to enjoy the rest of our week.

A nice place. I'd come again. Loved the lobby snacks, wine and port and the breakfast was good too. The wifi was quite slow but other than that it's centrally located and there are a lot of good places to walk to. The staff are great.

We had an awesome stay here at the Inn. My husband and I booked our stay in the Sissinghurst room and enjoyed everything about it. The room was gorgeous and the service was great. The breakfast was delicious and the complimentary wine and horrendous were great as well. I would totally recommend this stay and we will definitely we coming back.

Stayed there one night. Booked that morning and got a 20% discount, FYI. Place is nice. Staff super friendly. Close to downtown. Railroad Barron room was nice. It does show some signs of age, but nothing bad enough to get excited about. Happy hour wine and cheese was good. Breakfast good as well. Will stay again.

This place is amazing!!! Great attention to detail and the staff is very responsive. Each room is themed differently and is very lavish and extravagant. Just a short walk to downtown Capitola.

Adorable bed and breakfast in Capitola! My bf and I were looking to have a nice weekend away from the city so we chose to do some hiking at Big Basin and stay in Capitola. Everyone we encountered at the Inn was very nice and accommodating. As it was our first time, the gentleman who checked us in gave us a tour of the grounds and told us about the wine and dessert hours that evening. Unfortunately, we missed both due to dinner near the wharf (which was a quick 5 min walk away). We opted for breakfast brought to the room the next day, consisted of banana nut pancakes, sausage, fresh fruit, coffee and oj...good standard breakfast food while we enjoyed our morning. Service was exactly at 9am as requested and hot! We stayed in the Kyoto room and both loved the soaking tub after long hikes at Big Basin. We both thought the room could use a little love, caulking in the bathroom was cracked and discolored, some sort of electricity issue as the lights would dim/flicker on their own and slow drainage BUT I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, these are not deal breakers for us and the overall vibe of the room made up for it. A little steep on the price...peak season and weekend (oh well) but again, I'd come back for sure...maybe off peak seasons to save some of that working girl money. Overall our stay was great, and I've already told colleagues to about this cute bed and breakfast and can't wait to come back! Cool history, cool room, great service and good location!

My husband and I stayed here about a month ago and had a great time. We stayed in the Portofino room. It was very cute and clean, we had our own private hot tub on our private patio which was nice. We purchased the romance package that included a gift certificate to Shadowbrook and a bottle of champagne. They had the champagne on ice in our room when we returned form dinner which was nice. They also brought breakfast to our room the next morning. The food was good. The location of this place is excellent. Walking distance to the water and all the cute shops. We had a great time, but I still feel it is a little too expensive for what you get.

Lovely, lovely place in a perfect setting. Went there for an escape weekend and found it the perfect place. I don't generally like B&Bs but this one is fabulous. A little on the pricey side but really, really nice. Food was excellent as well.

This quaint Capitola B&B is great! My mom stays here every year when she comes to visit me and has never had anything bad to say about it (except that it is pretty pricey during the summer, but where isn't?). The Inn At Depot Hill is located within walking distance to Capitola Village. They staff there is always super friendly, and very accommodating. Each room has it's own theme, and is decorated accordingly. Several of the rooms have their own jacuzzi tub as well. A delicious breakfast is served every morning, and each night they offer free wine and snacks which you can enjoy in your room or outside in the patio area. If you're looking for a relaxing and enjoyable place to stay, I would highly recommend the Inn At Depot Hill.

We have stayed at the Inn at Depot Hill often, so we had the usual high expections for a pleasant two day stay. Wrong! The Inn is lovely, and we've always liked it. When Chris ran the place, the breakfasts were amazing. There was much to say about it, and we used to recommend it highly. Used to. We had no trouble paying for our room reservations a month in advance, as unusual as that seemed. Arrived cold and tired after a rainy day in San Francisco with our receipt showing "payment in full" for the Delft Room for two nites. Imagine our surprise when they would not let us check in until we paid additional charges! They were insisting that they place a hold on our credit card for "incidentals". What incidentals? The Inn doesn't offer any "incidentals". No bar, no gym, no spa, no room service for late nite meals or snacks. We were upset, as they had never asked for this before on any of our dozen or so stays here. We asked to speak to the manager. We were handed a phone with the rudest woman I have ever met on the other end. She was belligerent, hostile, demeaning, and completely uncooperative. We asked her what "incidentals" the additional charges were supposed to cover, as the Inn offered no "incidentals". She changed her mind and then told us the charges were to cover "loss and breakage". After twelve stays there without incident, I doubt that we were going to break anything this time around. The manager then stated that these charges were "standard" and that if we "traveled more we would know that." Really? I'm a platinum member at the Hilton, million miler at United. etc. etc. A hold to cover "incidentals" is standard at hotels which offer room service, laundry, spas, massages, etc. This Inn does not. We paid the additional charges over our strenuous complaint. The manager wasn't going to check us in unless we did, and flatly refused to refund our money when we said we would just go elsewhere. She wouldn't check us in, and wouldn't refund our money. Apparently she honed her customer service skills at a Motel 6. Rude, arrogant, awful woman. Breakfast arrived the next morning and was just dreadful. Two eggs covered with herbs baked in a casserole dish which were so watery you could not eat them with a fork. Scorched croissant you could not break. Simply unacceptable. My wife was so upset we left right after breakfast. They refused to refund the money for the 2nd nites stay. Horrible customer service. My advise: Avoid this place. It's lovely, as it always has been, but not worth the hassle with poor and abusive managers. Stay somewhere that values your business.

I haven't visited many Bed & Breakfasts to compare, but I was pleasantly surprised by our stay here. I believe this was a former train station (at least it looks that way from the front of the building). We stayed in the cote d'azur room, which was decorated in the theme of a mediterranean seaside cottage; inviting and peaceful. From our room, we had access to the garden and a whirpool, which we did not take advantage of. Breakfast was a choice between eggs benedict and a scramble with potatoes, toast, and fruit. Snacks were served in the evenings and dessert at night. It felt like staying at a relative's house, but without the drama. ;) We did find a HUGE spider in our bathroom the first night. It was the size of a quarter and mighty crunchy. Other than that, our quarters were clean. The area around the Inn is adorable. There's a small downtown with candy shops, restaurants, and boutiques, plus a gorgeous beach and pier. We had a perfect weekend retreat away from busy SF. Recommended!

I really liked the Inn at Depot Hill. We stayed in the Paris room, and found the surroundings to be very inviting. There are very well thought out details throughout the room. We also enjoyed the fact that the room has direct access to the garden patio and a hot tub. Breakfast in the morning was very tasty.. walnut banana pancakes with sausage and fresh fruit. We will definitely be back soon.

Just stayed in the Delft room for 2 nights. My girlfriend wanted to go to a charming bed and breakfast for her birthday and I booked the Inn at Depot Hill based on reviews here and on TripAdvisor. We were not dissapointed. Our room was lovely, she really liked the canopy bed. Jordan had a bottle of wine and a very nice card awaiting out arrival in our room. She was very nice. There was wine and cheese each evening. And we had breakfast served in our room. The breakfast was just the right size to get us going in the morning. The Delt room is their largest and is decorated in a Holland look. Everything was really nice in the room, I have NO idea what the other people here are bitching about. This is a B&B, it's not the Ritz! It's called charm people! Granted the "hot tub" outside was just a large bathtub, LOL. Location was superb. Our room was on the end of the building and we could walk right out to our car. Yes, there was some noise from the traffic, but we didn't spend all day in our room so we didn't care one bit. There is also a great little patio. We were less than a 2 minute walk into town and we had a blast! My girlfiend really loved this place, and so did I. Would highly recommend it.

We really enjoyed our stay. All the staff were very attentive even to the point where they did extra for us. The place it self is beautiful and quaint. We loved coming back from a day out to the wine tasting and appetizers and then coming home after dinner sitting around the fireplace for a night cap of port and chocolate. We would stay again.

This was probably the BEST B&B me and my husband ever stayed at. We got the Capitola beach theme room, absolutely perfect for our wedding weekend. The room was clean and had a huuuuge white bed and canopy, absolutely romantic with touches like a bay window, fireplace and DUAL HEAD SHOWER. The shower was a dream for us! Since we were staying for our wedding, they left us a bottle of champagne and wine in our bedroom. The breakfast was fantastic, even though I hardly ate (nerves), and they even offered to leave us some port and dessert after we returned from our rehearsal dinner. I would love to return.

We stayed in the Delft room for one night and enjoyed our stay. Though we arrived before check-in time, the manager was kind enough to let us park our car at the Inn while we walked the short (5-10 minute) distance to the beach and shops.Throughout our stay, all the staff we encountered were very pleasant and professional. The Delft room was spacious and comfortable with plenty of places to sit, a large bathroom and a surprisingly large patio with an outdoor hot tub (which we didn't have a chance to use). Everything was very clean and well maintained... with a couple of exceptions. The carpet had numerous sizeable stains that were instantly noticeable upon entering the room. Frankly, I am unaccustomed to seeing that in a hotel, especially a pricey one. There were also a number of places where the white paint on the moldings along the floor had been scraped or chipped. A quick touch up would do wonders and I was surprised that the Inn would leave it like that. Another thing that really bothered me was the bathroom sink. The faucet was so close to the side of the sink that I could barely fit my finger tips under the water. This made something as basic as washing my hands a chore. A very odd design that needs to be changed. Breakfast (baked eggs, fruit, croissants, juice, tea) was brought to our room though we had the option of eating in the dining area. It was good with nothing that this picky eater objected to. We also sampled the cheese & crackers, cookies and beverages available in the dining area in the evening and morning. While in a convenient location, the Inn is at a busy intersection so during the day there was a lot of traffic noise. Also, the Delft room is just down a short hallway from the office and dining area so there was quite a bit of noise during the early evening and in the morning. None of this noise ruined our stay, but perhaps a different room would be better if you're looking for silence. During quiet hours (10PM-8AM, if I recall correctly), it was, in fact, quiet. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and do recommend the Inn. I really debated between 4 stars and 3 stars, but ultimately I feel that it's actually kind of insulting to the guest to charge so much and not keep the room in perfect condition. So with a little maintenance, the Inn would easily get 4 stars.

Long story short, we had a wonderful time there. We went for our anniversary. From the moment we walked in the staff was friendly and attentive. The decor and property are beautiful. The hors d'oeuvres upon arrival, and the breakfast were absolutely delicious! We had breakfast delivered to our room and they were very accommodating of my vegetarian needs. And the room was beautiful! We stayed in the Delft room. It was slightly dingy...like the furniture needed a good deep cleaning. But nothing too bad at all. And maybe they've done that since we stayed. It was comfortable and large. I hope to go back again and stay in each room at some point. And I love that each room has a theme! Of course the location is perfect for beach access, and restaurants. All in all this is one of THE best places you can stay at in the Capitola area..in my opinion.

The Kyoto Room was a beautiful place to spend the evening, and the inn is walkable to the beach area of Capitola where there are some cute shops and restaurants. The room was amazing but there are a few pointers: *the manager was sure to tell us that we might hear him cooking his dinner that evening, as his quarters were adjoining. which is great that he let us know but also a little weird *unless you have the shoji screen doors closed, you have no privacy in your room if a maid or someone does walk down the stairs into the patio area. which is unfortunate as the room has a beautiful garden! *the fireplace was pretty weak as far as visuals go, it did however actually warm the room after being left on for a couple hours *the snacks provided in the evening were tasty (creme brulee for dessert!) the wine was not the best so i would bring your own bottle. breakfast was fantastic, and the croissants were the best i've ever had! *we stopped at a LUSH bath store and got a bath bomb to enjoy in the bathtub, however they do supply gilchrest and soames toiletries and mineral bath with salts Overall I would definitely stay here again. It would be nice to try out another room...but the Kyoto Room was so great maybe not :)

Love this place! We have been coming here for 25 years after a recommendation from a friend and have stayed in most of the rooms. Each one is unique. Our favorites are the Delft and the Costa del Sol. The B&B is small and intimate and you can join other guests in the main lobby for breakfast, evening snacks and wine and conversation or make it a private getaway. The staff has always been very friendly and accommodating. This visit was no exception. We really enjoyed visiting with our Hostess Lauren and the other guests in the evenings. Breakfast was delicious and served to us in our room at the time we requested. If you like small friendly B&B's with comfortable clean and pretty rooms you will like this one. Easy walk to Capitola beach and shops. We will certainly keep coming back.

My girlfriend and I had a great time here. The staff were amazing, and the whole place is very well set up. We will definitely stay again. One of the best B&B's I have been to. It's location is also ideal, right next to Capitola village, just a short walk down the street to get to wonderful restaurants, shops, and beach access.

So excited that my first review on Yelp is a 5-Star one! My fiancée planned a surprise getaway for us for my birthday, and we stayed the night in Capitola at this charming B&B. We had the Paris room, which was immaculately decorated and flawlessly clean. The place has the feel of a cozy, old hotel, but everything is fresh and the good energy is palpable from the moment you walk in. We arrived early and Claire quickly checked us in two hours ahead of schedule. The room was ready for us. It was quite spacious, and had big doors that opened up into the garden. Claire recommended that we get turndown service for the evening (which we forgot to order), and also suggested the in-room breakfast (which was delicious, delivered punctually at 9:45, and perfectly presented). There was also creme brulée served in the evening, with wines, port, tea and coffee. It was a delightful pleasure to sit in the spacious common room and enjoy our desserts. The bed (always important) although not too large (I think it was a full) was quite comfortable. The room also had a nice loveseat and ottoman, which were nice for sitting and enjoying the old photography books of Paris, and for a late-night game of Scrabble. Bonus: on the bookshelf there's a 1972 Merriam Webster dictionary (1600 pages). Double shower in the bathroom; the shower heads are old so the water pressure could be better. Overall, an excellent experience, a good value for the money, and definitely the highlight of our trip to Capitola.

We stayed in the Paris Room and LOVED it!! Very friendly staff with many nice touches. For being a B & B, it still felt very private. The room is lovely -- a nice fireplace that you can enjoy from the bed or a seating area at the front of the room. You can hear the water fountain outside if you open your window -- so romantic. My favorite parts were the extras -- cookies and tea in the afternoon, cheese and wine before dinner, port and truffles after dinner...BREAKFAST IN BED! We love Capitola and will definitely make this Inn an annual stop.

I read the review by Melisa and was surprised. We left the Inn this morning. My wife left her pillow on the bed. (she has a favorite pillow that helps her back). When I called this evening, as soon as I identified myself John laughed and said "you left your pillow." the upshot is that they are shipping it to us in the morning. As for the accommodations they were great. I could quibble and say that the bed was a tad too short, I'm 6 foot 3 so my toes dangled, and that the towels although large were a tad rough (need a higher quality towel or fabric softener), but that would be far too picky of me. The staff was wonderful, took care to ensure our privacy, provided to-die-for breakfasts, and went out of their way to ensure a pleasant experience for us. The atmosphere was wonderful, the inn far enough from the tourist streets to be quiet yet close enough to walk down to the beach in about 4 minutes. All in all, an excellent b and b.

The Inn at Depot Hill was the final destination for me and my wife on our recent honeymoon. I'll say up front that I'm generally pretty frugal, so I was a bit hesitant to shell out almost $200 per night for a room. But we had such a wonderful time at this inn that I wouldn't think twice to return for a special occasion, such as our first anniversary. One of the neat bragging points of this inn is that it each room has a different theme, such as the Paris room, which has a French flair, a room that's reminiscent of an old-style luxury railroad car, and the room we selected: The Kyoto, which has a lovely Japanese theme, including a miniature Zen rock garden outside, sliding Asian-style panel walls -- and a wonderful, large, deep, two-person soaking tub with a handsome dragon water faucet. This particular room was well secluded from the rest of the inn; there was no foot traffic passing it, a perk if you really enjoy your privacy. Moreover, our room had a nice fireplace, a television (which we never turn on) and a stereo system. The daytime manager of the hotel, Claire, is awesome: Very sweet, accommodating, and sociable. We arrived a little early, so she kindly had us sit in the comfortable lobby area and offered us beverages to enjoy while we waited. I had a very nice glass of merlot; my wife had tea. (This was all complimentary.) The inn also offers a fantastic array of appetizers from 5 to 7, including an array of cheeses, crackers, vegetables, dips, wine, cider, and a hot a dish: Ours was garlic cooked in oil to be spread on crisp pieces of French bread. This, too, is complimentary. Then at 7, they start serving a homemade dessert, along with decaf coffee and tea. We have a pumpkin coffee cake, which was quite tasty. And, yes, complimentary. Between the appetizers and the dessert, in fact, you could get by skipping dinner, if you're trying to save a little cash. As part of your night's stay, the hotel also offers breakfast, which you can eat in the lobby area or better yet, have delivered to your room any time between 8:00 and 10:00 or so. Ours arrived promptly at 8:15, pushed by Claire, and it was splendid: homemade croissants, a lovely fruit salad, and a homemade Mexican or Spanish dish called "estrada." (The main dish varies each day, but there's only one choice. Thus, if the breakfast entree of the day doesn't suit your tastes, there's no alternative.) Other perks include free parking and free wireless Internet. Overall, this hotel is warm, cozy, and romantic, and frankly, a very good value for what you get. I'm not giving it five stars because I'm stingy with "perfect scores" and there were a couple of nuisances that detracted from our stay. For example, our room didn't have any coffee for the coffee maker; the fireplace was functional but not adjustable; one of the bedside lamps collapsed when I tried to turn it off; and the pathway from our room to our parking spot was very poorly lit. Nevertheless, as I mentioned, my wife and I will definitely return to this place, and we'll recommend it highly to our friends.

What a pleasant surprise this place is. The Inn at Depot Hill was recommended to us by a friend when we were looking for a good bed and breakfast in the Santa Cruz area. We've been twice. Our first trip, we stayed in the Railroad Baron room. It is a really beautiful room, with one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept on. It also has a super deep bath tub... almost like a jacuzzi without the jets. The room is really romantic. Our second trip, we stayed in the Kyoto room. This room is Japanese-ish themed. The room is a little larger than the RR Baron, but not as intimate, because it's more of a wooden style than the deep red of the RR Baron. The bed and chairs are not as comfortable, either. The service is really great here. Both times we went were for birthdays, and we got free bottles of wine delivered to our room. They also deliver the breakfast to your room, and it actually comes to you still fairly warm! The food is not amazing and could probably use some work, but it's tasty enough. You can also get some snacks and dessert around dinner time (and they'll put leftovers in the fridge in case you missed it). They also have racks of VHS tapes in the lobby you can borrow and watch in the room, which is nice (although... seriously.... VHS???) The price is a bit steep, but they usually have some kind of specials going on where you get 2 nights for the price of 1 (as long as 1 night is a weekday). So ask when you call to book. I definitely think the RR Baron is the best room. Our first trip, many of the rooms were vacant and so we were able to peek in and take a look at them... none of them seemed as nice as the Baron. Insider tip: Don't read the guest book if you don't want to find out all the different places in the room that people have had sex. In other words, read it. It's hilarious. I recommend this place for a special occasion with your significant other.

I don't know if we were there at an off time or what, or maybe our expectations were too high? We are a couple, mid 30's, well-traveled, prefer B&Bs, first time to the area. Selected this resort based on TA reviews. Booked a 2 night stay in the Kyoto Room for 4th of July weekend. Below are is the overview - keep reading if you'd like details: Positive: -Location -Breakfast is good (when or if it comes) -Coffee is good -Bottled waters in the room Negatives: -Awful service -Dirty -Bugs -Theft -No attention to detail -Overpriced -old beds and pillows -Non working fireplace -spotty internet -I can't stress enough... horrible service Upon first arrival, the inn is as pictured. We arrived at 1pm (before check in) just to see if we could check in, or get a recommendation for lunch, to use the restroom (long 4 hour drive). We stood in the foyer for 20 minutes. We saw one person from housekeeping who said Hello, but didn't send anyone to greet us. We finally left to fend for ourselves. We came back at the check in time to be greeted by John. John had us fill out our paperwork for breakfast (circle what you want). I had told him I already had a previous conversation (twice) with Claire about dietary needs, he referred to notes and agreed. He showed us to our room. Kyoto is exactly as pictured. Minus a few dirty details which I will get to. He pointed out that the fireplace had a minor issues, where it didn't get a big flame, and they have been trying to get it fixed for "months". This irked me at first that even though it is July, we do like to have the ambienance of the fire at night, while reading or enjoying wine etc. I had also called the Inn to get a recommendation about which room stating we wanted a fireplace - claire recommended Kyoto. John then proceeded to inform us that he lives on property and we may hear him cooking his dinner at night - uhhh?? That just struck me as odd, and not private. We weren't there to watch tv either, but it should be noted that the TV system is very outdated. The beds and pillows are also very outdated. Most B&Bs these days at least have a down mattress cover. I felt like I was sleeping at my grandparents house -flat pillows and a mattress that creaks. Forward to the evening, we return from dinner, to discover the fireplace doesn't work, AT ALL. We call john and he says they can't have anyone fix it tonight, but tomorrow he will have it checked. We never heard from him again, and the fireplace was never fixed. The first breakfast that came was quite good. They did accomodate all of the dietary requests which is a plus (at least for day 1). Fast forward to day two. The bad thing about kyoto is the entrance is similiar to a backyard, so there is no place to put up a do not disturb. There we were were laying in bed, looking out to the zen garden, and here comes the maid. Not once, but twice! (before 10 am) They have to walk down the stairs and literally walk right up to the glass door and physically see you before they know you are in there. Major minus for us - there is a ton of privacy on one hand ..but none on the other. I guess you should tell the staff, please dont have anyone come before X am. In the afternoon, we made a pot of coffee only to find we had no cups. We called the front desk - 45 mins later we had cups. The overall feel of the room is dirty and dusty. The bottom rungs on the chairs are thick with dust, there is soap scum on the shower, there were dead bugs behind the lamp and lastly I spilled water on the wooden bed frame and wiped it up with a towel, and the towel was FILTHY. On our second morning we scheduled breakfast at 10am. We woke up at 10:45 to find no breakfast had come. We called and were informed we did not order breakfast. For the 4th time I had to go through the conversation I had, the paperwork I filled out, etc. They did again accomodate the dietary need, but I was upset that we paid for a B&B, filled out their form, and it didn't come? And last, and the most unfortunate, we left two nice mens shirts behind in the closet. I will openly admit that this was our fault and that the inn is not responsible for our belongings. But, when we had called the next day realizing that we had left the items behind, John again had informed us they were not in lost and found, but he would check with housekeeping and call us back. No call back. We called again, and were informed sorry the shirts cannot be located. This only means that someone took something that doesn't belong to them, and that person works for this Inn.

When you walk into your room at the Inn at Depot Hill, you feel like you're on vacation somewhere truly wonderful (even if you've only traveled all of 15 minutes or so). I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we both loved it. We stayed in the Delft Room (full of its Holland magic). The attention to detail from the tiling around the fireplace to the moulding was impressive. Not only does the room have a fireplace, a comfy bed, and a shower with two heads, it also has a two person outdoor whirlpool and a private patio. The rest of the inn is lovely as well. We got to check out a few of the other rooms the next morning and they each have their own theme and their own charm. The manager, Claire, is really friendly and goes out of her way to make you feel at home. In the evening, they have wine and sherry, along with hors d'oeuvres followed by dessert. In the morning, they have fruit, granola, croissants, orange juice, coffee/tea, and a specialty dish (ours was a nice herb egg and toast dish). If you want, you can even have all of it delivered on a private tray right to your room. Oh, and when you check in, they have a bottle of wine waiting for you (and since I had mentioned in my reservation that it was my boyfriend's birthday, they left a little birthday card too). It's also within walking distance of the beach and Capitola restaurants/wine bars, etc. So that's a bonus. In any case, we had a great time and we'll definitely be back for even just a quick get-a-way.

I stay at this property quite often, probably more than anyone. I feel impelled to write about my experiences here since I am so well acquainted with the Inn. Honestly I'd rather keep this place a secret because I think it is an absolute haven. Alas, the world does not go round this way though. In addition I would like to do my tiny part in helping the Inn to stay open not only for myself to enjoy, but for others who truly appreciate a fine, classy, hospitable, B&B. At the Inn they provide you with plenty to enjoy your stay. From the cozy robes to the fireplace in each of the rooms, they pamper you. In addition the appetizers, wine, and desert is exceptional. There is plenty of it too; if something runs out the innkeeper replenishes it promptly. The breakfast is simply phenomenal. You have a choice either to be served in your own room or in the dining room. The service has never been late either; they are always prompt and hospitable. Although I have stayed here for more than 50 nights I always get a fresh welcome. Claire, the manager, is awesome! She go's the extra mile to ensure that you are perfectly comfortable and makes you feel genuinely welcome - that's because she genuinely cares, and it shows. Jordan, one of the Innkeeper's, is also a sweetheart. She always smiles and shows true consideration. Oh well what can I say, they spoil me. If you forget something, just ask, they usually have just what you need (toothpaste, toothbrush, Nintendo Wii - yeah right). As for electronic entertainment, no this place doesn't have large flat screen plasma TV's, nor should it! This is a quaint B&B, not some 30 story Hotel in downtown SF. You come here to experience the opposite, to actually unwind and appreciate the beautiful surroundings and nature. Capitola is not in the middle of nowhere. If you want to see a movie or sports event you can either go to the movies or to one of the many local lounges/bars. They even have a mall! My favorite thing about the location of the Inn is that it's only minutes away from the beach...walking. You are also a walk away from Capitola Village where you will find several shops, a few wine bars, and plenty of diverse spots to eat. If there were a drawback it would have to be the internet connection. It has historically been "spotty." Thankfully recently this issue seems to have been resolved. During my last two stays I have had no interruption in service, so it seems that the problem has finally been fixed - Yahoo! Overall, you will surely have a memorable, positive experience at the Inn. It is truly a special, unique place. What's neat is that you can come back time and time again and experience something different since they have so many rooms that take you to diverse places. If you come to Capitola and stay somewhere else you are beyond doubt missing out. Ciao!

The Inn at Depot Hill is the perfect place to get away for a couple days, either with a friend, lover, or by yourself. The first time I checked into this place out was for a couple days over spring break. Once I drove through those iron gates, I new it was the perfect place for some relaxation. I was greeted by a friendly innkeeper who told me all the important things I needed to know, like how to operate the fireplace and what time I could expect wine, dessert, and breakfast. I put my stuff down and decided to explore the surrounding area. I checked out the beach and a couple wine tasting rooms, and had way too much because everyone in this town is super friendly. There are lots of touristy shops and restaurants within walking distance. The beach is nice, but I think New Brighton is better. By the time I returned to the inn, it was wine hour. Of course, I had some on the outdoor patio before heading to my room to suffer the consequences of waaaay too much. Around 7, I was face down on the bed, and the innkeeper came in to turn down the sheets. He was horrified at my condition, but very polite and left me alone. My sister arrived at 8, and we went out to dinner. when we returned, there was cheesecake, port, and hot chocolate. In the morning, I enjoyed some orange french toast, fresh fruit, and a croissant. I returned to this place with my BFF last week. We basically had the same experience including suffering the consequences of too much wine! When will we ever learn?? This time, we didn't feel like venturing downstairs, so we asked if we could have breakfast delivered to our room. It was so perfect to lounge around in pajamas and eat blueberry pancakes with clotted cream in bed. I highly recommend this place. I would give it 5 stars if the showers had more water pressure.

This is my husband's and my favorite B&B to stay at. We love this little inn. The breakfast in bed is amazing and they have great service. It's so charming and every evening they serve wine and desserts. The Capitola Beach room is awesome! Also, Shadowbrook restaurant is close by and a phenomenal place to eat. There's also tons of little shops to go in as well. Highly recommend this Inn and it's well worth the price!

I love the Inn at Depot Hill. My husband and I stayed here on our wedding night. We are locals and own a retail business, so no honeymoon for us. We had one night away from the dogs and the store, so we came here, I think because of the Yelp reviews we read. We had no idea there was an inn of this quality just down the road. The staff is top notch, the best. They were so warm and welcoming and really sweet. The wine reception is lovely. The breakfast in bed is something we didn't even know about before we checked in, do this! There are some "dated" parts of the inn, including the two-person jacuzzis on the patios of a couple of the rooms. But not in a bad way, just a little "quaint." We're actually going to try and stay here like once a year now, just for a little stay-cation. We loved it, and hope you will too!

The Inn at Depot Hill meets all expectations for a perfect weekend getaway. The Inn keepers are friendly and welcoming. The theme rooms are cozy with comfy high thread beddings---which makes breakfast in bed a must. The location is excellent...just two blocks away from the beach and restaurants. They have wine and cheese hour before dinner time and then when guests return to the hotel after dinner, they have desserts, ports and wine for a nightcap. I'm impressed!

I love the Inn at Depot Hill. I live less than 10 min. away and try to stay there at least once/year. Actually it's the only place I've stayed in the Santa Cruz/Capitola area since I moved here. Our first stay was over our wedding weekend. In the RR Baron room. (Our personal favorite). When they heard we were getting married, the night of our wedding, we came back to find a bottle of champagne and red roses in our room. It's quiet, relaxing and private. I always feel welcomed. The wine and cheese reception is yummy. My favorite part of the stay is the warm breakfast wheeled into the room at my leisure. It's seems so civilized to sit in a cozy robe drinking coffee and eating a croissant or whatever yummy confection they offer. I guess I could do that at home, but it doesn't feel quite the same. They seem to have a "VIP" list and we get discount, midweek usually, coupons in the mail so check into that if you plan to stay more and have the flexibility.

My wife and I stayed in the Kyoto room, which is very nice because it is totally isolated from the rest of the property. It's super private. In the room there is a large bath and shower which are both very appealing. Unfortunately the bed mattress is a bit hard to sleep on - my wife's back hurt the following morning and to be honest I didn't feel completely rested. The dining room has assortments of appetizers and desserts in the afternoon and evening, and they serve you a nice breakfast in the morning. The location of the inn is only a short walk to the beach, and overall, this was a fine place to stay. My only complaint was that our bed wasn't especially comfortable but we would be willing to try another room at another time.

My husband and I stayed a few nights here in celebration of our second wedding anniversary. Each room has a different theme. We chose the Portofino room because of the Italian theme (we honeymooned in Italy). We were definitely not disappointed. The room is beautiful and comfortable. We enjoyed the private outdoor patio with hot tub, the fireplace, the great food, and friendly/helpful staff. The front desk has some ammenities on hand in case a guest forgot to bring something. My husband and I forgot toothepaste, and they delivered it to our room...complimentary! The food is great. You can have breakfast delivered to your room or you can eat in the common room. My husband and I had breakfast delivered to our room both days. One day we ate out in our own private patio because the weather was so beautiful. Definitely a nice perk. The complimentary appetizers/wine was also very fun, and they have dessert from 7-9 (unfortunately my husband and I were not able to enjoy this...we always got back to the hotel after dinner a little too late. You are allowed to go into the refrigerator and help yourself to the left overs, but we did not do this because we were too full...maybe next time). We love this hotel and look forward to making another visit here. I would have given five stars, but the temperature in our room was uncomfortably hot. The air conditioner was not working. During the day, we kept our sliding glass door open, but at night we were not comfortable with this and so we had a very difficult time sleeping (even though the bed is very comfortable).

We really enjoyed our stay in the "Railroad Baron" room. Comfortable and relaxing room and bath and the service was tops. It was my first visit and an easy and quick one night retreat from the S.F. Bay Area. I was particularly impressed with the friendliness and attention to service. Such a pleasant experience that I am sure to repeat.

We had a pretty disappointing stay at this B&B. The fact they are owned by a corporation rather than caring individual owners may have something to do with this (we hadn't encountered that before). The outside appearance is nice enough but once you enter the small touches of a typical B&B are missing - it is far from cozy and welcoming. We stayed in the Library room, it's in two levels and can sleep kids in the loft. The main room is fairly OK but the loft is blanketed in dust - enough to give you an asthma attack, we had to let the kids sleep on the floor. And we have seen nicer bathrooms at a Best Western. The breakfast was most depressing, raw, saw-dusty granola, store-bought croissants, indifferent coffee, canned fruit. We made do with our peanut M&Ms instead. The tea time food was passable, skip the cheese loaded 'dip' and the bile inducing 'chardonnay' though. There are far better B&Bs in this area to try out instead

By far, my most favorite bed and breakfast I have EVER stayed in! The staff is incredibly helpful and thoughtful. We booked reservations, without knowing if we'd actually be needing the room or not. Or if we would be showing up. Or if we would suddenly be leaving in the middle of the night. My hubby and I stayed here over Memorial Day weekend, when I was SUPER pregnant and about to pop. Literally, it was my due date weekend for my first child. We were unsure if the baby would arrive and we'd have to leave- and lose our money. The manager told us "no problem- we won't charge you if you have to leave, or if you never show up- as long as you let us know, and keep us in the loop". Wow! I never knew an arrangement like that could be made, but they were very accommodating! We live in San Jose, but were having our baby at Sutter Birthing Center. We were so worried about making it over the hill in Holiday traffic. We decided to book a room in the SC area, in order to avoid the "Our baby was born in the backseat of our car" stories. I love B N B's, but I hate having to go chat with people I do not know in the mornings, just to get my breakfast. Here, we had our breakfast delivered to our room every morning. And it was delicious. The robes in the room were plush. The hot tub was awesome- we used it every day, a few times a day- We were always the only ones in it. The rooms are all so gorgeous. We peeked in to several of them, and were very impressed by each one. Lovely decor, the attention to detail was amazing! The location- Can not beat it. We got in lots of walking, trying to get the baby to come out. Downtown Capitola is so adorable. Lots of hills... pretty beach... nice shops... We walked and walked and walked and walked. The baby did not come till the following week, but we got to enjoy one last romantic weekend before our lives changed forever! Thank you Inn at Depot Hill!

A little pricey, but not too bad as far as B&B's go. My wife and I stayed here the night after our wedding and loved the room and feel of the place. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is mostly our fault: we had to leave so early the next morning, that we didn't even get to try the breakfast which was really disappointing. The bed was comfy and it had an amazing shower from the ceiling and a waist-deep tub. If I can afford it, I will definitely go back.

A delightful retreat that brings not only peace and quiet but an ambiance that rests our busy souls. The breakfast is not only delicious and fresh but the presentation is beautiful. It will be your secret place too!

Another Five-star for me and my bf. Well, we checked in quite late already since I still came from work, and when we arrived outside, we were kinda scared because it had a creepy air to the place. But the moment we stepped in, we were greeted by a very friendly innkeeper who made us feel home away from home. Our room was so lovely with romantic additions of a hot tub and fireplace. By morning, we checked out all the other rooms and they were beautiful as well! A touch of every part of the world at one inn! Travel from Japan to France to England and Italy to name a few... The details on every room have that high-end designer charm to it. All in all! This place is simpy perfect for a very romantic getaway! Like i said in my other review, pair it with dinner at Shadowbrook!

This B&B should be a model for all B&B's. The service, decor, location, and little extras make it the perfect weekend getaway place. I loved the afternoon wine & cheese, the evening dessert & port, the always available fridge with drinks, and the breakfast.... which you have to try delivered to your room on a little cart all laid out for two that they discreetly deliver and take away whenever you're done. Our first morning we had breakfast in the lobby area, but the second morning we had it delivered to the room (like we discovered almost all the other guests did) and it was perfection to enjoy such a yummy, elegant breakfast in the privacy of our room. The beach is just a short walk away, as are many little shops and restaurants that you can visit whenever you can bear to tear yourself away from the comfort of the Inn at Depot Hill. We stayed for the first time a few months ago when we needed a stress-free weekend away from work and real life so we could just relax and give our mind & body a rest. We stayed in the Kyoto room, which is one of the more secluded rooms in a back building. It even has its own mini Zen garden. The sliding screen doors and dragon tub are just a couple of the unique touches they add to the room to add to the theme. It was a fantastic room and one I'd definitely return to, although it's enticing to stay in one of the other rooms to see what they're like too. We're going back in a few months to stay in the Capitola Beach room (described as "Contemporary California" themed), and I can't wait! A few notes: Room prices seem to go down starting in November, and weekday rates are much cheaper if you have a flexible schedule. There's free wireless internet, just make sure you ask them for the password. Also, some of the rooms don't seem to be available through their online booking system (like the Capitola Beach room), so I recommend browsing the room descriptions online to see which ones you prefer and then calling them to find out availability and book your room. Since it's a B&B, prices will be higher than at a typical no-frills inn (around $250-$350 a night on weekends generally), but it's well worth it!

SWEET! This was such an awesome, cozy little place to relax. And the staff and town residents are so friendly! And there is such cute shopping and beaches within walking distance! And there is wine that's totally just left in the common area for you to hit up whenever, and there is a wine and cheese reception in the early eve, and there is dessert and port put out at night, and a fridge stocked with juice and soda and water, and breakfast in the morning. If I had more money, I would just live in this place for a couple of months!!!

I loved this B&B. It was walking distance to the beach and the town. My friend and I stayed in the Library room which was great for two good friends. There was a twin bed in the loft and a queen bed below. There was also a raised sitting room perfect for reading or just talking and a really nice fireplace. They serve breakfast in your room. They have appetizers and wine at 5 and they serve yummy deserts from 7-9. If you happen to not be there you can always help yourself from the refridgerator in the kitchen. I looked in the other rooms and they were so nice. I am coming back with my husband for our anniversary. I can't think of anything negative to say. I enjoyed my stay there so much. It feltl like home. If you go to Capitola I highly recommend that you stay here. It is not expensive when you see all the ammenities that they offer. I am so spoiled now that it is going to be hard to stay in any other B&B because I will always be comparing it to this inn.

i booked the valencia private suite for ken's birthday and we were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the suite was decorated. i loved the yellow and blue tiles, carpet, linens and furniture in this private cove includes a queen sized bed you can totally sink into with its pillowtop and goosedown comforter. this suite wasn't attached to the main building but is seperate from the entire inn which we like. total privacy! the bathroom came with a private tub (looked like a crab pot) and shower. the suite also came with a private driveway and parking stall. a short walk from the inn to the main strip was about a block and a half. totally convenient! the main lobby had displayed appetizers, desserts and breakfast all cooked by the staff with complimentary coffee, tea, water bottles and wine. they also serve breakfast in bed and will deliver to your room if you fill out a card. I LOVE THIS PLACE! we are definitely coming back here again!

Had a great weekend at the inn with the hubby. The staff was fantastic and so friendly! The breakfast in the room was awesome. The beach and shops are a short stroll away from the inn. If you're looking for a quaint relaxing get away, The Inn at Depot Hill is the perfect place to go.

Very unique, lavish and convenient B&B in Capitola that I highly recommend. Each room is totally unique and very accomodating and the breakfast was outstanding (we stayed one night). The staff took care of our every need and they consistently asked how they could keep helping us. Looks like the Railroad room and the Kyoto room are possibly the most unique, but we were in the Stratford and it was nice. Definitely recommend the happy hour for tasty food and wine.

My husband and I had a great weekend here. The staff was friendly, our room was large, and it is walking distance to town and the beach. There are complimentary drinks in the kitchen, they will bring you breakfast in bed, and leave dessert for you in the fridge. It's almost like spending the weekend at a friend's beautiful home.

My (now) husband and I were looking for a mini-moon getaway after our wedding in San Francisco, and he always wants to stay at a Hilton (for the points). I was insistent that we choose some place off the beaten path, and I cannot deal you how grateful I am that we did! This place is phenomenal, and I can't say enough good things about the staff and the Kyoto room (private garden, great shower/tub, adorable space). Since it was our wedding weekend, we got a free bottle of wine from the Innkeeper. We were walking distance from the beach and fancy-pants Shadowbrook for dinner. Free wine and cheese for happy hour and coffee, fruit and banana pancakes delivered to our room in the morning, all included! Thank you, and please, I never want to go back to a Hilton. We got our room fairly cheap (it was a Monday) but I suspect it can get expensive on the weekends/peak season. If you need a quick getaway and can go midweek, I HIGHLY recommend this place!!!

I've stayed here three times, and I've gotten my mom a room here twice for her birthday weekends. We love this place. The rooms are gorgeous (the Railroad Baron's room...) and the staff are wonderful. If you can get the Paris room, you get a door to the courtyard and can hang out in the hottub at night. The Railroad Baron's room has it's own soaking tub, which the staff will start up for you if you plan to have dinner in town and want to soak when you get back. It's lovely.....

Loved this Inn. Clean, quaint, within walking distance of Gayle's Bakery in one direction and the sea in the other. The service was great. The room and bed were ultra comfy. I'd stay here again for sure. Lovely, comfy, romantic get away.

I worked here for about a year and I have nothing but lovely things to say about the staff, particularly the manager, Claire. The thing most people like about the inn, is that each room has a completely unique style from rustic Italian to modern Japan. The building is older so don't expect everything to be in perfect condition. If you like perfection, try the Kyoto room, which is newer, very clean, and has an amazing soaking tub surrounded by black granite slabs. In the main building I'm a big fan of the Portifino Room which has one of the outdoor jacuzzi tubs.
