The biggest reason I love this place is the "Cheer's" feeling they have going here. The things I've eaten here are pretty decent. The beef strognoff is pretty damn good. I'm NOT a mushrooms fan, but I turn a blind eye to them when I eat this meal. This visit I had a bacon cheeseburger (because it's National Cheeseburger Day today), and I really enjoy it coming out 1/2 assembled, cause I'm the worst customizer for food, and this way I'm not disappointed. I felt it was missing something until I realized 'I' forgot the Ketchup. Over all darn enjoyable burger. My daughter got the kids grilled cheese and it was really good. For an appetizer, we got "chicken strips", and I forgot theu deep fry a flattened chicken breast and slice ot into 'strips'. Needed some salt (shocking actually), but not bad at all. All in all, a really enjoyable place to hang out.

Was English Pub, then blended into German Pub after St. Pauli's closed in Kyburtz. Smack dab in the middle of Apple Hill. Great stroganoff, my favorite meal by far. Nice little dining room, and outside eating area, good service. Local beers, a little bar to sit at and watch the game; Even has a separate section with a pool table, and a couple video games...but very quite to eat at. Locals eat there, so that means something...or they wouldn't still be open.

This place is very good, open till I think 8:00 or 9:00 pm. which is great for us cause we are always getting home later then expected, so we eat there, food is good and there service is very good normally as well! They used to be st. Pali's but they closes down.....so then I found out the same owners came down to camino and opened up the forester, which is very good, and they still serve there German food and also American food like burgers and stuff..... I say there great!

This place is fantastic! Food was top notch authentic homemade German cuisine. Friendly staff, owner was very nice and down to earth. Large portions and definitely left satisfied. My husband had the homemade Goulash, red cabbage & homemade German noodle Spaetzel. The homemade clam chowder was yummy too. This place is a must if you are in the mood for authentic German cuisine and have a healthy appetite! We'll definitely be back.

Love to come here when visiting family. We like the schnitzel especially but everything else we have tried has been good too. The on tap beer assortment is good. .. we love the german selection as well as others. Cider too! Warm cozy local atmosphere, everyone fits in and feels welcome. Try the deck in the summertime.

Ok... This place is great! Only reason I give 4 stars is because I never get enough fries....always have to order extra. Other than that, everything and everyone is outstanding. This is our "go to" Friday night spot because we live about 5 min away. If we lived 15-20 min away, I would still make the drive! I love this place!

As a tourist it is nice to find a place that has variety of good food and service in our road trip. Stop here and enjoy the moment.

Holy cow, this place has amazing German food. I will say, you can tell it's a very small, locals place so the service is a bit..."interesting" for lack of a better word. Britney was great the first night I was there--very friendly and on top of things. Strangely enough, the owners were the ones who, when serving or bartending, were a bit "laid-back" so to speak. They sat at the bar and drank sodas, beer or wine and read the newspaper. That's OK if all your patrons are locals and they know you, but it was a bit off-putting to my husband and me--we felt like we were inconveniencing them. We were staying with my 82 year-old grandmother 5 minutes up the road, and managed to escape for a few mini-dates while the family babysat our daughter, and they sort of made fun of us every time we came in...cool...if we knew you and knew you were being nice and not rude. However, the reason we kept going back was because the food was terrific...I mean AMAZING. The hot wings were delicious--juicy and crisp and fresh, the shrimp cocktail was to DIE for! seriously...the reviews talking about how huge and fresh the shrimp are nailed it. Last of all (and actually the first thing I tried there) was the beef stroganoff with spaetzle. For the love of all things holy...how have I never had spaetzle before?! It's like the donut of pasta. I am so bummed there is no place in Albuquerque to get it! Anyway, the food is made fresh to order **from scratch!** with love and that makes me a HUGE immediate fan. They've also got a great tap list. You can definitely tell that someone with a knowledge of beer put that selection together. If I lived nearby, I'd probably spend all my money there! Anyway, do yourself a favor and GO!

Not impressed. Some Wedges of iceberg, half a tomato and two slices of a beet are not worth $4 for a side salad. Waitress didn't take our order for 15 minutes and then forgot to ask how i wanted my burger done ( I didn't mind this until I overheard her asking another customer) and then messed up my order completely. I'm all for the mom and pop places, but they need some work. Our food was okay otherwise but I wouldn't come back.

Cute place. Fun sitting on the deck. But beware, any 'sauce' based dish (and we ordered three) was way too salty. Can't remember the last time I left a restaurant with my mouth buzzing from salt overload. Medical Alert: if you have high blood pressure ... bring your meds... haha ugh

We have been here a few times and have only had the buffalo burgers. But they're always delicious. Service is friendly and beer is cold!

Really good food, most especially the German dishes! Love the area, the service, and the atmosphere! Me and my family go each time we're in the area! Go! You'll love it too!

We were up in the Applehill area doing some wine tasting so we stopped in here to grab a bite. Super old school pub with a lot of antique stuff on the walls. Service was a little slow but while waiting we played a few of the video games they had and shot a game of pool. I ordered the Santa Fe Chicken Sandwich which was a chicken breast, guac, sauteed onions and an ortega chili. OH, I also added bacon which was only a buck. Good sandwich! Fries were slightly above average after adding salt. I also tried part of my buddies Bison burger which was super simple yet very yummy. Yes, I just used the word yummy. Dont judge me. Cool place and might try it again if we are up wine tasting again.

What a wonderful, random find! Just needed some lunch while heading to South Lake Tahoe. We were trying to go to another cafe across the street, but it was randomly closed. This was the only other restaurant on this street, so we tried it. Husband got a buffalo burger, which is his favorite and said it was great. There was a kids menu (which included a pork chop - hilarious!) and all other normal "kid" stuff but nothing my picky kid wanted. So we ordered her a side of spaetzle with no gravy. OMG, have you had spaetzle? Greasy and delicious. So strange to describe it that way but it was delicious! (Of course kid didn't eat it). I ordered the crab and shrimp salad. The only thing that was a bummer was that the menu described the crab as "crab meat". What I got really was "crab salad". I don't like anything with mayonnaise, so this was a bummer, but I should have asked. The other menu items with crab said "crab salad" so I thought I was safe from the mayo! Fast, efficient service. If you love authentic german food, you will LOVE this place!

We stop here every time on our way to or back from Tahoe. Shepherds pie is amazing, as well as the ribs and everything else in the menu!

This place was great! Wonderful atmosphere with great food and friendly staff and owners. They had a great tap selection for the area. The food came out piping hot and the chicken wings were so good. Blackened Pepper Steak was also superb! Definitely a gem and will be back! A great place to catch a game, super friendly owners!

I went there a few times now. The last two times the food has been horrible. Today I ordered a French dip and the roast beef was chunks of meat with all kinds of fat. The outside edges of the meat were hard like it has been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. Yuck! Not giving this place another chance. Over priced and nasty.

It's kind of OK to bring your baby to this bar and have a drink when the apple activities start suffocating your soul. Eh, it happens. You're only human. And the altitude, you know, that doesn't help, does it? In other words, the opportunity costs associated with being frowned upon by a buncha drunks and a very sober barmaid all whilst having a quick drink with the ol' [baby] girl are definitely functioning with the time you take to do so. Hurry the fuck up, in other words. There are mediocre apples to be had on the other side of that bar door so you know. There's a big wild world on the other side of that door. With pies and croissants and cider and shit. JK about the croissants. If you are babyless beer drinker, this space is for you. There is a smoking patio too. Think Bonn Lair in East Sac with nice trees and fresh [but still hot] air. But you will also need to eventually settle down and have a baby so you are not a life-long babyless beer drinker. That was a joke. I had the fish and chips. They seemed like the cook made them with good quality ingredients but without a care for actually cooking them to taste good. Maybe he had had enough apple hill shit too.

I love German food... There is a lack of German food in the valley. I found a place that serves a few pretty authentic German dishes... in Camino, CA. (they also serve 'regular' food too..haha) This place is 'real' enough that I would make a special trip just to eat there. The fact that it is at the entrance to Apple Hill makes the trip all the more enjoyable and worthwhile. A pub/restaurant/ with a pool table and outside patio seating. yelp.com/biz_photos/fore… In the winter they have a wood burning stove to snuggle up to. I have had both the Jäger Schnitzel yelp.com/biz_photos/fore… and Wiener Schnitzel yelp.com/biz_photos/fore… ....both very tasty. I prefer the Jäger over the Wiener. Comes with your choice of sides. I chose the spätzle. yelp.com/biz_photos/fore… and red cabbage...both yummy and authentic. I tried a side of dumplings... i probably won't order it again. Too solid. Needs to be lighter and fluffier. yelp.com/biz_photos/fore… For starters I chose the vegetable beef soup...one of the heartier soups that I have had...sooo yummy! A big bowl of that in the winter sitting by the stove would be the ultimate! yelp.com/biz_photos/fore… Just about everything they offer is 'home-made'!! What ties it all together is Deb, the awesome server that I had both times I visited in the last few weeks. She is very personable and knows a lot about the restaurant and the area. She has been working there for eons. THIS is the place to eat when you visit Apple Hill...and NOW is prime time for apples...those 7 pound pies and gallons of fresh squeezed apple juice. Go now!! I am.....

This place was fantastic. We had or wedding in Camino, and we stayed at the Camino Hotel across the street for the duration. We went here the night before for drinks and snacks. The owners were super nice and allowed us to hang out on the patio as long as we wanted. It was a perfect night.

We were seated... Then the table to our left. Then to our right. The waitress took everyone's drink orders and food orders on either side of us... And we continued to wait. They GOT their drinks on both sides of us and then she went back into the kitchen! Finally, she asked us for our order. I was already ready to leave I was so annoyed. I would like to say that it was worth it, but the food was average. It wasn't bad... It wasn't special though. All in all, it's an ok place, as long as you have significant time and patience.

Pretty good buffalo burger made fresh. Meat was good n juicy not dry or too lean. Beer selection also very good. Large menu with nice entrees with a German Euro recipe twist. Well definitely be back for more.

Food is good. Waitress was awful. Never brought our drinks. When told to bring a fork for the dessert, she brought a spoon. Dropped off the bill and never came back. Had to go up to the bar to pay and have the drinks that never came removed from the bill. Unapologetic and completely unsatisfactory. I will not return, and the place is walking distance from my house. Sad. Can't hang out at my local eatery because it is no good.

We found this place by accident while on our Apple Hill adventure. After trying to find a place to have lunch and having no luck, a wrong turn led us to this place. It's a small and cozy pub-like restaurant with low ceilings, booths, wooden tables, an outdoor eating area, and a wooden bar. The drink menu has a list of beers and wines from local wineries and breweries which was nice. My dad wanted to order some of the All American Lager by Jack Russell but unfortunately they were all out of it. He had to make a different choice but enjoyed it anyway. The menu offers a few traditional pub grub selections as well as sandwiches and a a few other entrees. I chose to go with the beef stroganoff off of the pub grub list. It started me off with a small but delicious cup of clam chowder soup served with a pack of wheat crackers. The soup itself was tasty and had a unique flavor to it. Different than any other clam chowders I've tasted! My beef stroganoff was served over fettucine noodles with a side of mixed veggies. The noodles were thick and tasty and the beef and mushroom sauce over the top was good as well. There were chunks of tender beef as well as huge chunks of mushrooms. My dad ordered the fish and chips and said that the fish was a little overcooked, but that's pub food for you. My mom ordered a sandwich with a side of rice pilaf. My boyfriend ordered a sandwich with a side of coleslaw and my friend Patrick ordered a hamburger. It was basic food, but very tasty and hit the spot. We were starved! The waitress we had was good and on the ball and took and served our order promptly. This is a cute little place to stop and get a bite to eat if you're in the area. The prices were very reasonable. The area it's located in is very quaint and nice to look around at if you have the time. It is also only walking distance from a cute place called Mill View which is where we walked to afterwards to grab some delicious Apple Hill desserts from. Score!

I have known about this place for years and never got a chance to eat there until last night. Very disappointing, right when you walk in the door there is a sign that says seat yourself, this is supposed to be a nice place and you have to seat yourself. They can afford to have a band, but not a hostess. The waitress was less than friendly. Don't these people know that the kind of service they give affects their tips? I went on their website before going to look at their menu and saw that they have Lobster on Friday nights, so my husband and I were excited. When we told the waitress we wanted the lobster, she said we don't serve lobster. I let her know that they are advertising it on their website. She said Oh we haven't done that in a long time and I said well that's false advertising. She made no attempt to be apologetic or tell us that she would let the owner know to have it removed from the website she could have cared less. Then we ordered steak and asked for medium and when it came to the table it was raw. the bathroom stall doors had so much grime on them from people's hands it was disgusting. Then we got up from our table to leave, when we got to the doorway our waitress was coming with someone else's food so we stopped and let her come through the doorway she didn't even say goodnight folks thank you for coming or anything. Boooo this place sucks. I would give them no stars but this app doesn't let you do that.

Had great service and food at the Forester Pub & Grill. Twenty five Gold Country Harley rider showed up for lunch, and the server did even break a sweat. She got our drinks and the food out in record time. Did I mention the food was great, thank you Forester! We'll be back...

Updating for 2015: Jaeger schnitzel still draws me in. My wife had a big slab of meaty baby back ribs, and everyone loved their dishes, from fish and chips to turkey melt, to Beef Stroganoff. Yum. The Forester is a quaint pub with great pub decor, it's warm inside even if it's winter cold outside. The Pub is located in its own Ceder mini-forest just about in the heart of Camino. Fall and Winter months may be the best time to visit the Forester as the food is hearty and delicious, and it warms you up. There is lots to choose from, both American (burgers, steaks...) to real German fare. Speaking of fair, the prices are very fair indeed. You won't be shocked, and there are small portions at $5 to $7 for the little ones, in this family friendly establishment. I had the JaegerSchnitzel, the pork was pounded out tender, the breading was crispy pan fried, and the mushroom bacon gravy was pure delight. The gravy was brimming with mushrooms and bacon. The spaetzle were average package fare, but definitely cooked properly and good. The Red Cabbage is an appropriate side dish and it was delicious too. My wife and son each had a portion of crispy hot and flaky white Fish and Chips. I had a bite, it was delicious. Nothing overly greasy here, just very tasty pub fare from a kitchen that clearly cares about what it puts out. You can only deduct a point for some decor drawbacks such as annoying lights on the arcade games in the pool room and it can get a bit crowded in the pub room, but overall, this place is popular with locals and valley visitors alike. I think the German food makes it exceptional. The schnitzel is a winner. It makes you want to come back. A good selection of American beers, and a few German selections like Warsteiner make for a full German experience if you want to transport yourself into the full Bavarian experience. You won't find much German in these parts, so you best just stop at the Forester Pub and Grill and dig in!

Not sure where to start with this since I don't do very many yelps but I finally had to. I have been going to the Forester for years and this place needs a total makeover. I am waiting for this place to be on Restaurant Impossible. Why have I been going there for years? It's because my Grandma who lives nearby says it's the only place in town. You need a full menu makeover. I just recently went there again there and the only thing good there is the canned drinks and the beer. All the food tastes the same; it does not matter if you order a steak or fish and chips or a salad. The salad I had was wilted and the steak sandwich had so much fat on it I could only eat 2 or 3 bites. Please Please change your menu up, maybe start serving breakfast on weekends and maybe some pizza or something. I want you guys to succeed not only on days when Camino loses power and you are the only place open.

Nothing ground breaking, but it's probably the only place in the area to eat a decent lunch. I always get a burger and leave satisfied.

This place is a solid offering for sure & worth the stop. The food which is mostly of German flare is rich & hearty. The service has always been great and I have never waited long for any of my meals here which is important to me. I would say the only thing on my wish list here would be a bigger bolder Beer selection...

We went just after the lunch rush when it was pretty empty. The Forestor is nestled along a quiet mountain road and the feeling of being nestled sticks with you the entire meal. Maybe that had something to do with it being Winter and there being a wood burning stove! I got the fried eggplant sandwich. The bread was very toasted and scraped the inside of my mouth with every bite. I think this was done to keep the bread from getting soggy cause it also had dressing and avocado on it. The sandwich was still yummy though! Overall the food wasn't bad.

Foresters is a cute little Pub and Grill. I always try a cheeseburger with bacon and BBQ sauce when I am trying a new place and that's exactly what I did there on my first visit. It was about a 2 on a scale from 1 to 5. The service was good the first time. The lady was attentive and nice. I sat in a room that had a fire place, a pool table, and a couple of games. It was nice. Down the hallway to the right is a bar you can sit at and a large dining area, which leads to an outside sitting patio. It's fairly priced, about $10.00 a person. So if you are traveling through the little town of Camino or visiting Apple Hill swing on by Foresters and give them a shot.

After an afternoon of Lava Cap tasting, we were definitely in need of sustenance. Decided to try the Forester after reading the reviews on Yelp. Full of locals, everyone is super friendly as we made our way to the patio deck to enjoy the warm evening weather. The four of us ordered a variety of dinner items ranging from chicken Caesar salad, meatloaf and stroganoff with schnitzel. Not only did we get the orders quickly, it was piping hot and DELICIOUS. Everything was amazing and the servings are large and plentiful. Don't try to cut calories here, just enjoy it for what it is. Buttery, hearty and old-school tasty. The waitstaff are very friendly and we felt like we had been regulars for years. We will make this a regular stop this fall and winter from now on. Can't believe we missed this place for so many years...shame on us!

Whenever my wife and I are in Camino, CA We make it a point to go to this great Pub. They have burgers, Fish and chips and a whole lot more. You can also eat outside on the deck and enjoy the fresh air and Pine Trees.Excellent service . They also have a horse shoe pit in the back by the deck. Great Beer too!!

Good spot for a bite to eat if in the area and hungry, but nothing spectacular. I came here with a large group, and they were more than accommodating. We sat on the patio, which was quite nice on this summer evening. The waitress was on-point, with the noted exception below, as she remembered everyones orders enough to get all the food and beers out. Service was fast as well, considering all the food we ordered. My friend had some cream of mushroom soup (ick!!!), and liked it well enough. Until he saw some funny stuff in there, which turned out to be small peieces of cardboard. Three in all, just mixed up in there. The waitress wasn't as concerned as I would have hoped, and my friend kept on eating it (like I said, ick!!!). Quote of the day goes to the waitress, reacting to the found cardboard: "Oh, it must have come on the mushrooms" WTF!?! why would it be on the mushrooms in little pieces? If they do come in cardboard, why wouldn't it be taken off before cutting them up? Later: "I talked to the chef, yeah, it was the mushrooms". OMG, and they only took off the cost of the soup! My fries were a-OK and everyone else noted their food was acceptable.

Dinner during the week with the kids. Could not have been better. Brought a German with me, who had not had a schnitzel in Germany in a long time as good. It is harder to find authentic German food in Germany anymore, and my guest was very surprised. I was very pleased to see shepherds pie offered as well. German and British food both on the same menu, I could not have been more pleased. Long story short, you can not go wrong with jaeger schnitzel or Wiener schnitzel we had for a good price. Atmosphere was what can be expected in the hills.

We came here for lunch with the family. We were greeted when we walked in the door. Sat quickly and drink order was taken. The place was clean, still a little hot cause they just opened and had not got the ac going yet. But that didnt take long to cool down. The food came and must say it was pretty good. The buffalo burger was cooked to med rare as i asked. That doesnt happen to often with burgers!!! The burger was delish!!! Onion rings were very good. Everybodys food was pretty tasty. They have a huge patio out back, great for putting back a few cold ones and eating some grub. The decor is cool. The bathrooms were clean. This is a great place to grab some lunch in Camino.......

Stopped off for a cold one with a friend after spending the day "thrifting." Ordered the calamari appetizer. Not the typical pieces of squid, but rather a calamari steak, cut into strips. It was amazing. Fast, friendly service and tasty grub. So happy to see some of my "old" favorites from the St. Pauli Inn menu. A little disappointed that they swapped pork for the veal in the Weinerschnitzel, but they've got the Schlag sauce, so it's probably good. Can't wait to find out!

An interesting place close to Highway 50 where its wood cabin decor appears to have been there a lot longer than this 7 year old restaurant. The baby back ribs ($16) were so tender that you had to eat them with a fork; the meat completely fell off the bone when trying to grab a rib. The clam chowder wasn't all that special, but the mixed veggies that came with the meal were definitely fresh. When this place is full, I'm sure that it's full of character!!

So on our way up to Tahoe we needed some food. I grew up going to Tahoe and hitting the St. Pauli Inn for some weinerschnitzel. Unfortunately, I found out that place closed years ago. Good news is that the AMAZING (see the review on Jodar!) winemaker at Jodar told us the owners had opened a new place in Camino not too far away. Nice bar type of feel. Quiet when we went in, but that's since it was lunch time on a Monday. They have some tables outside out back which is where we opted to sit. Relaxing and nice to get some fresh non-city air! They had a typical pub type of menu, but the bonus is they've moved some of their German items to the menu (weinerschnitzel, jaegerschnitzel, etc). As a true German I was a little bummed that the schnitzel was pork, but hey. With German food I'll take what I can get! Red cabbage was great and spaetzle was super unhealthy and wonderful. :) No real German beers, but I guess it's not a true German restaurant anymore. The service also wasn't terribly friendly. Not sure if she was the owner or not, but I was almost afraid to ask for food. Then again, that's the German way - curt and to the point. Regardless I'd be back. Maybe to try a regular menu item with a side of that spaetzle!

Don't do it, don't you dare. My fish and chips were nasty, old greasy, and sparse. One stinking piece of fish and nasty, old grease fries for 15 bucks. They don't refill drinks as you have one waitress trying to cover 20 or so tables. They cater to the locals - the first name basis folks are treated differently. Ohbytheway, the slaw with the fish and chips was no doubt out of a box. 15 bucks, what a ripoff. My dates Geman dish was soggy and tasteless. Now, we tried these guys twice over a 6 month timeframe. I have no idea why this place is still open. Eat elsewhere.

Love the ambiance, great beer selection and good pub food. Nice well lit place with lots of seating. You can sit outdoors when the weather is nice. The place gets busy on weekends, but midweek there is always room. If you are looking for a pub you will not be disappointed!

i've eaten her about six times with my 94 year old mother. Every time the food was good and of descent quantity. Last time I had their rib eye steak ( around 20 $) which was really good -tender and tasty and rare as ordered. My mother had shepperds pie which i tried and it was also really good I would reccomend this place to anyone i found the one waitress to be amusing, a customer ask for a steak well done and she suggested medium well " since once it's shoe leather there's no bringing it Back ". I will go back soon

This place is excellent. I had the Pork Goulash with Dumpling, Red Cabbage and a Creamy Potato Soup. They have Jack Russell Beer on tap and I had their Scottish Ale. The wife loved her Tuna Melt and my buddies Meatlof Sandwich was on par. If you like Diners, Drive-ins and Dives this seems like a place the Guy Fieri would love.

We enjoy the drinks and food here. The Forester has great food (my favorite is the buffalo burger) and drinks (I always grab a glass of local wine or beer). My husband likes to try their daily specials on occasion. My kids enjoy the inside and outside environs, as well. There is a nice outside seating area. There is also a game room! It is clean, friendly, and a great neighborhood and local's hangout.

Very nice atmosphere; friendly waitress. Ordered caesar salad with chicken and avocado ($12.25). Also ordered grilled cheese with fries for the kids. Salad was average (the original salad was $5.25; they charge $7 extra for a thin, breaded chicken breast and two small slices of avocado). We found a hair in the bottom of the salad; mentioned to waitress and she was totally apologetic. Took the item off of our bill. I would come back to try the fish and chips since they are probably not known for their salads. Grilled cheese was unremarkable. Great service though.

This place is absolutely phenomenal. Went for dinner with my fiancee and my family, and we dreaded going because we figured it'd be lousy pub food in the middle of the hick town my parents just moved to. Wow, were we ever wrong--the atmosphere is clean and classy, the service was kind and fun, and best of all the food was INCREDIBLE. My fiancee's a vegetarian, and she was thoroughly pleased with her options. I had a fantastic buffalo burger, paired with excellent wine from Wofford Vineyards (a Syrah I highly recommend). This "pub & grill" goes down as one of my Top 10 favorite restaurants of all time, including some pretty pricy places. Way recommended.

Husband took me here one night thinking it would a great "romantic" place to take me since he enjoyed eating lunch here. Upon walking in and seeing the "Seat Yourself" sign, I decided maybe the word "romantic" wasn't appropriate. Still not wanting to give them a bad shake, we sat down and perused the menu. This place has the whole European Eats/Bar/Hick Restaurant in Camino down pretty well. We were not happy with either of the dishes we ordered and on top of that, it's not like they don't charge just as much money as a very nice restaurant would. But, seriously? This place is probably the worst I've been to in quite a long time. I could probably make a better chicken parmigiana at home! It was that bad. Go somewhere else if you want a nice dinner out. DO NOT COME HERE.

I was a huge fan of the food at the St. Pauli Inn, and I have heard anecdotally, that the folks at the Forester are those same folks. That's a good thing. This place is just a stone's throw from my house, so I've been here a few times. I usually get the Wienerschitzel with Spätzle, but have also had their fish and chips, and let me tell you, thinking about just the mere smell of their fish and chips is making me salivate as I write this review. Delicious! Yeah, the "Seat Yourself" thing is weird, and yes, sometimes the service is a little slow, but I remind myself that the restaurant business is an extremely tough one, especially in these economically-depressed times. I cut 'em some slack on that. I'm a fan, and will definitely be back again.

Liked this place decent food! The only thing I was disappointed about was they didn't have Jack Russell Brewing company beer, which is right down the road, but they had a lot of other beers on tap!

Not very consistent: the first time there I had the best fish and chips ever. The next time I felt like fish and chips when coming back from playing in Tahoe I stopped in and had fish just on the "above" side of average. I get the feeling that it would make a great "regular" hangout. I'm definitely going to stop in again to try and get a better idea of more of their menu.

A handsome gentleman named Bob from Crystal Basin Cellars recommended this place for lunch to a group of us ladies out on a wine tasting trip, and it turns out he did us quite right. This place is apparently known for their buffalo burgers and fish n' chips. Both dishes were requested and they were DELICIOUS! Everything was fresh and piping hot. Service was prompt and friendly and the prices weren't overly expensive. I'm definitely going back for more next time I go wine tasting on the Carson Road strip... which means I'll be back next weekend! ;) ps. I recommend stopping by Crystal Basin Cellars as well. Very friendly staff and the wines are quite tasty!

okay, so its been a while since I've been here, therefore this review isn't going to be super specific. We went here after spending an afternoon at a local winery doing a food pairing event. Since they don't really give you much food we decided to go here and grab dinner and dry out for a bit. To this day I still remember how good the food was. We sat at the bar and the barkeep was very knowledgeable about the beers on tap and helped me pick one of the local Jack Russel brews that fit my taste (so much for drying out, I guess). We ordered, the food came pretty quick, and was hot and fresh. I had the tempura shrimp. I remember that the batter was nice and light, the serving size was huge and the shrimp were big and plump. I don't remember much about the sides served, but everything was really good and I had plenty of leftovers for a midnight snack. They carry a lot of local wines and brews. I will definitely be back, there are a lot of things on the menu that look really good.

Great place, small, cozy and warm (sit by the wood burning fireplace if you're cold). They had a great diversity of food, and most of it was very good. I had the Pot Roast (great), Dad had the Seafood dinner (Shrimp and Cod) which he liked, and Mom had the ribs (which were just "average"). Service was fantastic, and I recovered quickly from the shock when our server realized she'd accidentally put the bar bill for a table of 10 on our bill. I'd definitely go back, and next time will try either the Sheperds pie, the London Broil Porter Stew, or one of the German dishes.

We love this place and make it a habit to stop on our way home from lake Tahoe. The servers are friendly and they have a nice selection of dishes plus good local wines and beers. In the summer a nice patio in the back. Cute and warm atmosphere.

I looked up the place before we went, so I was expecting the prices to be a little higher than we normally spend for lunch. My husband ordered a rare patty melt with extra cheese & I ordered the Jagersnitzel. Patty melt wasn't rare & no extra cheese, plus the patty was a little on the small size (he didn't feel like sending it back for cheese). The Jagersnitzel was ok, spaetzle was meh. The spaetzle had a different gravy from the Jagersnitzel, which kinda threw me & it was way too salty. The cabbage did not taste as though it was seasoned & had a large hunk of the core in it (bleh). The waitress forgot to bring my salad until after the entree (oops) and I didn't bother to try it. We did order dessert. My husband had the Strawberry dumpling with ice cream - very good - and I had the Lemon Cheesecake. Unfortunately, it was a ricotta cheese cake which I'm not fond of (the gritty texture is off-puting), but it was a nice tart lemon flavor and the crust was pretty good. Overall I expected more for the price. Probably won't be back.

The Forester is located in the small town of Camino about 50 miles east of Sacramento. We live about 3 miles east of the town and have visited and enjoyed Forester on several occasions trying to insure our visitors enjoy the West Slope experience. Across the street is the Camino Hotel which looks like a quaint B&B (never been inside). The Forester menu is quite complete considering it's small size. There's a wide selection of German style food, burgers, sandwiches and regular full plate dinners. I know they serve beer & wine but don't know about spirits. A small bar in the dining area will accommodate 6 or so customers. They also have an outside patio but weather is often very hot in summer or cold in winter. I've had their buffalo burger, fish & chips, stroganoff, Santa Fe chicken sandwich, Club and all were great. Only disappointment was a Crab Melt and the server did explain before taking my order that the crab was canned - I should have known better. Servers are on the ball, polite and personable. Prices on most items are reasonable and the kids menu offers several selections. Parking is plentiful.

The Forester Pub is one of the highlights of the roadtrip between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe. The bison / buffalo burger is my favorite; love it with the pepperjack cheese... next time I'll ask for extra. I usually need to cut it in half to attack it. The onion rings are fresh and not too greasy... good with a pint of Jack Russell ale. Don't know where we found room in our tummies for dessert. The signature is strawberry dumplings made with Bisquick and topped with whipped cream. Essentially, it's a heavy, warm version of strawberry shortcake. I'm not a fan, but I always ask for a spoon to nibble on my friends' orders. Service has always been good and fast. Kinda classy decor for a pub/grill in the mountains, but this is California! I love the cozy wooden deck during the summer months -- esp when the guitarist who covers classic rock songs.

Great pub in Camino. Has wonderful American and German choices. I'm very sorry that they took the Venison Chili off the menu! Great back patio where you can take your well behaved Furbabies.

Food- My wife and I ordered the Captain's Platter for $18 and shared (1) large, nicely fried piece of Cod, (1) fried calamari steak cut into strips, (4) pieces of shrimp, fries, peas, and salad. Plenty of food for two. Our friends had burgers and fries for like $9. Beer- They have more beer selections of Jack Russell than the actual brewery if that tells you anything. Service- It was really slow but worth it thus the one star deduction. Atmosphere- It's a pub in the mountains. Anything goes. Parking- Plenty

Was up to Camino over the weekend. I didn't really want to go to the Forester but my fiance didn't want to drive back to Placerville. I was pleasantly surprised. The selection is a lot of burgers, sandwiches and the like that I consider lunch food but there is a short list of better options. We both had the rib eye steak (why does beef sound so good in the mountains?). There is pot roast, baby back ribs and about 3 more choices I don't recall. The steaks were both cooked to a turn. And I like my meat seriously rare! I get real tired of some one deciding that I really mean medium rare! It was perfect. They could have better sides but the salad was good and the onion rings crispy. This isn't a 5 star place in SF but it is a real nice option in the mountains. I will go back.

I just went here with my friend who lives down the street. Very friendly atmosphere, i enjoyed it very much. The bartender was very kind as to give me the beer that was the closest brewed beer to blue moon. The beer was very delicious, I am very big wheat beer drinker. :)!! Also played a couple rounds of pool which was for free. Also there was various music playing which kept the entertainment up and fun! Overall great place to go! Did not try the food but i would expect it to be very delicous just like the beer.

Had lunch here with a group on a Saturday right about opening time. I had fish & chips from the kids menu and it was just the right amount of food. The fish was fresh, the batter crispy and not greasy at all. A couple of the group had the tortilla soup which they said was VERY good. The hamburgers were also a hit. Service was quick and efficient. We ate on the outside patio, it was a perfect October afternoon, weather wise. Will go back again. The only drawback was that they don't open till noon. But we thought it was worth waiting for opening time.

Nice little place with decent pub decor etc. Beer is good and food was decent. Service was good. The Jack Russell beer is certainly not a reason to go here as it mostly tastes like taking a beer towel and wringing it out into a glass. The spaetzle would have completely bewildered anyone who had the slightest German in them! We went there with kids and thankfully they gave us a whole section of the place including pool table, arcade machines and jukebox. Appropriate given our kids were loud and unruly!

Always a great option in the Camino area. The food is well-made with some creative touches, and the service is 100% welcoming. The owner always is extra friendly, even to our three crazy dogs! :)

Food was good not very hot when served. Several types of beer on tap. Service was ok. When the bill came, you couldn't read what you had, looked like a 2 year old scribbled on carbon paper, but overall good place .

We stopped by Forester on the way back towards SF after climbing at Lover's Leap twice now and both times had spectacular home made food and great friendly service. The outdoor patio is very comfy and they don't just have hearty steak dishes, they have home made noodles, great home made soup, and they served me fresh steamed spinach both times even when it wasn't on the special or on the regular menu. The waitress Brittney is a total rock star and made sure we were well taken care of. This restaurant also hosts events to give back to the community. Can't say anything negative about it. Great place to stop on way back from Tahoe area and very reasonably priced for super quality food.

I took a group of friends here, and we had an incredible time. I was fortunate enough to speak with the owner, and I was extremely please with the service and the way the place is run. Overall, great experience. I know I'll be back next time I visit

This place was a place for fine dining. Perfect ambiance among the evergreens with beautiful deck service in the evening glow of candles and rope lighting. Their wine list was extensive and matched the savory array of entrees. And for dessert... creme brule. Now this place is no more than a pub with bad bar food. They tried to bring food from the Isles to Camino but what they have managed to do is to bring bland dried out meat dishes that I doubt my dog would eat. The service is poor and they are more interested in talking amongst themselves. They have taken this diamond in the woods and created a stone. The outside is pretty though. :)

Food - Good food, basic pub fare and a bit pricy. Excellent King Crab Quiche when it is on special. Great desserts. Strawberry Dumpling was wonderful. Beer - Alaskan Amber ale and a few other local beers. Nice decor and not too over done. Better than any chain restaurants. Has nice outside patio on the back (for smokers) but nice when it is not full of them.
