Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

We were driving down the 5 and I was yelping looking for somewhere to eat, and that's when I saw it. Tita's Pupuseria... I was intrigued. My boyfriend was pushing for Chipotle but I was like nah, quit being so basic. We debated for a while, and good thing we made the right choice and came to Tita's. WOW IT WAS GOOD. I'd never had a pupusa before and we got the pupusa revuelta, which was cheese and pork and it was so good. Then we got 4 tacos, I liked them all a lot. The service was great and it was cheap. If we find ourselves in that barren wasteland in the middle of California again, we will definitely go back to Tita's.

I stop here almost every time i drive up from LA. They have amazing Pupusas, and they stay hot forever on the road. Make sure you call ahead if you are taking to go. They take about 20 minutes to get an order out, but if you're eating in, worth the wait. Love the pork and cheese. And yes... i've had them all.

We were on our way back to LA from SF. We stopped here for lunch. The reason I stopped here because I like to support small businesses rather than fast food chains. I mean I didn't have a big expectation. All I wanted is something to eat. It was around 2 pm I stepped in to this restaurant. They had about 15 tables and only 3 of them where occupied. The server didn't look happy to see us at all. She told us to sit where ever we want and went back to her phone sexting . The first table we approach was very dirty , so we went for another one but that was even more dirtier. We made a circle in the restaurant and find out that actually all the tables are dirty and most of them still have empty plates, cups, dirty napkins and etc. See , I'm not a picky guy. I choose a less dirtier table and sit down while other 2 friends of mine using the restroom. Server put 3 menus on my dirty table without saying anything.. I asked if she can clean the table. She said "OK" and left. I sow some ants walking on my table. After few minutes server came and ask me what I want to drink. I said "I am waiting for my friends and I really need someone to clean the table." She said "Ok!!! but what you want to drink?" I said "Bring me some water please" She brought 3 cups of water put it on table. The she went back and brought a wet piece of towel and rubbed it to the remaining space left on the table between the 3 menus and 3 cups of water. In that point the wet towel smelled so bad I was almost throw up. Imagine the most disgusting smell you felt in your entire life and multiply that with 10! That how disgusting it was and I couldn't resist no more and I run out!

This a gem. What is there between Tracy and Los Angeles on interstate 5? There are a few typical fast food places, a handful of chain diners, Anderson's Split Pea and Harris Ranch. Okay, I probably missed something. And then there is Tita's. The owners pride themselves on making genuine Salvadorian and Mexican food. We had excellent pork and cheese popusas that were made from home made tortillas. We added fried plantains that were some of the better plantains we have tasted recently. On top of this we got ala carte chicken tamales. We had to wait a bit for the order since the chef masterfully creates each order with care. If you want pre-made junk tacos in less than five minutes you probably don't have time to taste Tita's delicacies. I rated 5 for excellent service from a small establishment and great food. I doubt there is a better Salvadorian restaurant in 30 miles. We will be back.

On the long drive back from southern California after Coachella I decided to stop by Tita's Pupuseria based on its good reviews on Yelp, and the fact that it is conveniently located right along the I-5. All in all the food was O.K and VERY cheap. No bathroom which was a little disappointing, ended up having to use one at the gas station nearby which was a HORRIFYING experience :'( We ordered a combo plate (2 pupusas + rice / refried beans), 2 pork pupusas a la carte, some tacos, and a couple Jarritos to drink. The biggest disappointment, unfortunately, was the pupusas themselves. The fact is that the tacos were much better. Even the sides that came with the pupusas were better. Perhaps they should change their name to Tita's Tacos, because that was the more memorable aspect of the meal. Not to say the pupusas were bad... they just weren't that good, and with a name like Tita's Pupuseria I would expect the pupusas to be the star of the menu. Not enough meat in each pupusa, in fact they barely tasted like anything at all. The tacos, on the other hand, were quite delicious and the meat in them (pollo asada) was fantastic. The spanish rice and refried beans that came with the combo were also delicious and tasted homemade.

Damn. This place is good. Really good. My girlfriend and I ordered a pupusa revuelta (cheese and pork) and some tacos between us (shrimp, al pastor, lengua and chile verde). This was my first time trying a pupusa but it definitely won't be my last. It was like a flauta with cheese and pork hidden under the surface. The al pastor taco almost made me regret ordering tacos instead of more pupusas. It wasn't bad but it wasn't that good either. The three other tacos made up for it though. The shrimp was so full of flavor, the chile verde taco was spicy and delicious, and the lengua was tender and flavorful. Lastly, the service was great. Our waitress was friendly and checked up on us periodically. Overall great experience. To think, I was gonna go to Chipotle down the way instead of this place.

Pretty good food. The girl that helped us was so nice & friendly. Inside was nothing special. To keep you in the road they do have a drive threw. It was hot the day we went so the special fruit cold treats were nice.

Driving down to LA? Tired of the usual In&Out Burger fair, not feeling like steak or pea soup?? Well, come on down to the cute little town of "Buttonwillow" for some seriously MIND BLOWING El Salvadorian food, particularly, thier pupusas! Service isn't the fast, especially during lunch hour when everyone seems to stop by in droves on tour buses. However, the pork and cheese pupusas, street tacos and plantains will have you stuffed. They also have this complimentary pickled cabbage (almost like kimchi but more mild) They also serve agua frescas and desserts. Real cheap $3.50 for a pupusa and you'll be on your way!

Food truck win! Skip the pork taco and go straight for the seasoned pork taco paired with a squash and cheese pupusa! You can get a drink, two tacos and one pupusa for less than $10 making this the perfect road trip stop and solution to a starving belly.

The food was excellent, but it was a little weird that my one (DELICIOUS) shrimp taco took 20 minutes to come out, so that's why 4 stars and not 5. The excuse was that there were only two cooks. OK, well there were only like 8 people there when I arrived. But at least tell me-- I completely understand that there was only one gal serving, and she was very sweet and working hard, although it wasn't so busy that a quick "we're working on it" would have been impossible. I think they just forgot to make it, honestly. Anyway, the guacamole is fantastic and very fresh. The salsa is very spicy and tasty, and the corn chips are the real deal: fried cut up corn tortillas. Best kind in my opinion. Again, the shrimp taco was really out of this world! The seasoning was just right and it was cooked to perfection. Bit of advice to anyone who doesn't deal so well with dairy, though: the menu doesn't state that any of the tacos come with cheese and sour cream (not that I remember seeing), so make sure you ask them not to put it on. Also, best horchata I've had in a very long time!!

I'm a sucker for authentic, non-fancy 2-taco Mexican plates. I'm all about plain old cilantro and onions atop carne asada. Rice and beans add that stamp of Mexican approval ( when done right) the rice is moist and flavored well, while the pinto beans were mashed perfectly. The hot sauce is house-made and tasted nice and smokey. This plate paired with Parrot coconut water with pulp. Perfection. Everything you want when on a road trip. I'm down to do this stop anytime we take the 5 Freeway between LA and the Bay. The ambiance- a bit run down. That's how you know it's good. Thank God they had clean bathrooms! The service- fast!

Good tacos & Salvadorian horchatas. Fresh guac too. Friendly service. Best place in the area.

Tita's has become my number one food stop when I'm traveling from LA to the Bay Area (or vice versa). It's located right off the 5 freeway in Buttonwillow, so you can gas up as well as grab a delicious bite. They have a food truck that opens later in the day I think around 11am, but luckily for you if you come earlier, their brick and mortar store a block down is open at 6am! I've only had their pupusas, so I can't speak for the rest of their food. But it's the the best pupusa I've had in my life! Pretty much it's a Salvadoran pancake made of corn meal filled with various fillings. My favorite is the pork and cheese. It comes served with a bucket of spicy, tangy slaw which is BOMB. You might get complementary chips and salsa too, which is really good there too. Now it does take awhile for these babies to be made, but I think worth it. Plus, isn't it nice to know that your food is made to order? One pupusa ($3) is more than enough to fill me up. I made the mistake of ordering two once, and I ended up having to take it to go! I love their horchata too. It's a Salvadoran recipe, so it's a little different from the rice-based ones. It's made from morro seeds and has a nice nutty taste, almost slightly chocolatey finish.

Nice option for the I-5 corridor. I tried a variety of options. Pupusas...yummy. Carnitas taco... Yummy... Fish taco... predictably not worth it...and Carne Asada taco...so so. A/C, aquas frescas and quite comfortable.

Great food, hole in the wall atmosphere. The guacamole was fresh and salsa was hot and spicy! We shared a pork and cheese pupusa with coleslaw and next time we will order more - maybe for our meal. Husband had the carnitas burrito which was huge and super tasty. I had carnitas tacos that had tons of meat and what tasted like homemade corn tortillas. Kids had burgers that were good as well - fries could be better but that's not why we came here. Try it for something new!

Great little spot! The ladies that work there are very nice! The prices are a little more what I would expect but compared of all the same ole fast food spots this place is refreshing! Def would come back when doing the drive LA to Bay Area :)

Driving up and down the I-5 is seriously boring, and the only places for food are chains or fast food. I'm so glad I found Tita's Pupuseria, a dusty little oasis for some hot pupusas. If you've never had a pupusa, imagine a flat, cheesy corn hot pocket filled with meat. That's it. It's so simple, and that's what makes it so delicious. I especially recommend this place if you need a quick bite to tide you over until your full lunch or dinner. It's right off the freeway, so you can be in and out and back on your way to get to where you need to get to. Their little side almost tasted like Korean kim chi. As a Korean, this surprised me a bit. I actually think it's a perfect side to a rich and cheesy pupusa - it's tangy, refreshing, and has a little bit of spice to wake up your taste buds.

Easily one of the best pupusas I've ever had. The frijoles and queso ones are crazy nice in your mouth. Great place to stop on HWY 5 just a couple of hours north of LA. Don't sleep on all the house made cakes and sweets. Diesel, our dog, also loves the patio and calabaza pupusa.

My review is only based off the 3 items that I ordered - pupusa revuelta, bean and cheese pupusa, carne asada burrito. The pupusas were good. The revuelta was definitely better than the bean and cheese but I'm used to having beans inside revueltas so I thought I'd try both. They were REALLY BIG, not regular sized. I've had better pupusas though in Corona and in Pomona. I know those places are quite far though so I thought I'd try what they have up here. The carne asada burrito was HORRIBLE. I still can't take that taste out of my mouth. Gross. It was very bland and did not taste good at all. The meat was horrible and had a weird taste to it like it was old meat or something. My husband was the one that ordered this and he took 3 bites out of it and couldn't finish it. I tasted it to see if it was really that bad and it was. Maybe I'm just used to real Mexican food being from LA, I don't know. I don't think I'd stop by here again though. I was hoping for better food based on the reviews. I don't know, maybe I'm missing out on other items that were amazing?

Squash pupusas and carnitas tacos are amazing. Best place to stop if you're making the trek from Northern to Southern California.

Yesenia no longer works here (huge improvement) Flor is the cashier and she is very sweet, patient and excelling in customer service. The aguas frescas are delicious & refreshing (especially the Piña one) and the cook is a hard worker. Flor is an excellent employee and a great asset to this business. Thanks for the food & good service.

As everyone states the pupusa are insane! While new to Ecuadorean food, I've had quite a bit of Latin cuisine. You can taste the passion they put in there food! Pork and cheese was the way to go and the wait staff is friendly and informative. A tasty treat on the road to la!

AMAZING fresh pupusas on the long way down to LA. Sat outside with our dog and had fantastic chips and salsa while we waited for the pupusas ....yum! We will definitely stop to try the chilaquiles on the way home!

Driving back to Phoenix from San Francisco, this is about as far as I can make it without stopping, and one of my favorites. Unlike most of the ubiquitous fast-food options which range from awful/barely edible to fair/maybe good, the food here is reliably good-to-excellent. For instance, my wife just had the beef street tacos which were really good, my daughter, the chicken burro (not great, but good) and I had the roasted pork burro, which was lovely. We squeezed the freshest limes I ve ever had served to me on some of everything, which added delightful variety to what would otherwise be a good-to-excellent monotony. However, you have to be prepared for some provincial realities: today, one of the employees came out mopping with a solution of apparently equal parts dirty mop water and pine sol. The waitress, who was nice enough, seemed surprised that a restaurant full of hungry patrons at lunch time wouldn't want to eat in this pine/swamp environment and asked why we went outside. Also, each of our plates arrived 10 to 15 minutes apart - that can (somewhat) be attributed to everything being freshly made and not ladled out of a steam table bin after being poured out of a 5-gallon plastic bag. But again, the waitress really didn't understand why we (nicely) asked where the missing food was... We even said we wanted to make sure they hadn't forgot. So, 5 stars for the great good; 2 for the reliability; -5 for the mop water; but 4 for the availability part: an enthusiastic 3 altogether. And yes, I will probably go back and do leave a full tip. Parking? There's basically nothing else around for miles - if you can't find parking, you're probably not at this place.

This place is remarkable. Upon arriving we are greeted by a wonderful woman and didn't realize that she was the owner. Anyways the food was so good and the service is awesome. I would say it's a perfect place to make a stop and fill yourself before you get so sleepy and bored driving for hundreds of miles, Tita you really rock and thank you for your humbleness.

Most amazing Mexican food ever! The outside of the building looks like shit. DONT JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER The inside is very festive and authentic. The food selection is great and the carnitas are superb!

The stars ate for the amazing good. The waitress however should receive zero stars or negative. She was terrible, did not even greet us when we walked in. She was not friendly at all and never checked in on us. Hopefully she got the hint since she received no tip from any of us.

  • Anna S.

What a genius place to put a food truck. Instead of hitting up a fast food place or grabbing a snack in a gas station, pull over and grab a pupusa. The pork and cheese is a must! The bean and cheese was also delicious. It's very quick and worth the stop up I-5.

  • Kumi H.

Just as others have said, we were very happy with the quality of their food. We tried the Pork and Cheese Pupusa which seemed to be one of their customers' favorite along with their Chile Verde. They were both delicious and filling! If you try the Pupusas, be sure to eat them while they're hot as you should with any dish with melted cheese inside. Yum! I also recommend their Carnitas Tacos. We ordered three but had to order more as these seemed to be a hit with my teenage, meat-loving, kids!

I'm glad I found this hole in the wall type of restaurant on our route from the Bay Area to Southern California. Usually it's difficult to find something quick and easy to eat that's not fast food. I've had papusas before and I thoroughly enjoyed this meal. The woman running the place is friendly and willing to answer any questions. She's been running the place for over 20 years which is impressive for a restaurant business. I had the bean and cheese as well as the squash and cheese papusa. Both were delicious but I enjoyed the squash more. The vegetables were fresh and were great with the tasty cabbage salad. I plan to return on the way home or on future trips!

  • Sandy K.

This restaurant is so bad! The only good thing I can say is that the waitress was very nice . The beans looked & tasted like it came from a can. l usually stop at the food truck on the corner which has the best pupusas. I would stop at the food truck and not go here! pupusa here was dry, cabbage slaw was bland and nachos were gross. How disappointing is it, when a restaurant can't even put out a descent plate of nachos? Plus there was no order ahead of me and a plate of nachos and one pupusa was slow to come out.

Pupusas & other comida Salvadoreña off of the 5 that never fails to satisfy my family's hunger. We travel from the Bay Area to Southern California quite often and Tita's was a treasure found very happily since before we had almost a routine gas and food pit stop at one of those exits where usually Taco Bell or Dennys ended up being our go to meal. We're Salvadorean and obviously were thrilled to find our little Salvadorean oasis and always feel right at home when we're at Tita's. First let me address that this isn't a Mexican food place, it's Salvadorean... there's a big difference :) most Latin American restaurants need to carry Mexican items like tacos and burritos because people are familiar with those and sadly it's one of the main ways to bring in new audiences. So Tita's does serve Mexican items but I can't speak for those and haven't ordered them since I am there for the Salvadorean food. If that's why you're here and you're ordering a burrito... I respectfully invite you to be a bit adventurous and try a new Salvadorean item. Their Horchata Salvadoreña is one of my favorites ever, very close to the one I drank as a child made by my parents & abuelita- if you haven't had a real Salvadorean horchata, it's nothing like Mexican ones that are basically rice water. Las pupusas son riquísimas! They're so delicious. The pupusas are big and 2 are enough to fill you up. In San Francisco I usually have to order three. They also offer varied platters with a little bit of everything good in Salvadorean cuisine. I love coming in for a traditional breakfast (desayuno típico) for a pupusa de queso con loroco (cheese and loroco, a Salvadorean veggie) with plátanos, beans, cheese and eggs. Tita and her husband Gonzalo are the sweetest owners too that will take care of you like a family friend. Theu also run a Pupusa Truck in the surrounding area which is yummy too if you don't want to come in and sit down & chat. The waitresses may be a little serious at times and you wonder if they know how to smile but Tita is usually around to welcome you to her home. Their hours are very accessible too, daily from 6am to 11pm! If you're on the run, call ahead an order to pick up.

Good pupusas & tacos. Had the lengua and asada tacos and the tamal de elote, plus a pupusa puerco. Nice people and a good stop on our way to SF. They show novelas too!

  • Frank L.

What's a Pupusa you ask? Well, I didn't know either so don't feel bad. The definition is: a traditional Salvadoran dish made of a thick, handmade corn tortilla (made using masa de maíz, a maize flour dough used in Latin American cuisine) that is usually filled with a blend of the following: cheese (queso) (usually a soft cheese called Quesillo found in all Central America) cooked pork meat ground to a paste consistency (called chicharrón, not to be confused with fried pork rind, which is also known as chicharrón in some other countries) refried beans (frijoles refritos), or queso con loroco (loroco is a vine flower bud from Central America). Well now that that is out of the way, They are delicious! We stopped here on way from LA to San Fran, while it not quite have the way, it is pretty close. We tried a bunch of "Mexican" dishes, but the Salvadorian Pupusa was best. The 4 stars is for that and the great service. It is definitely worth a try. #Yelp100

Last time here, a year ago, I recall the very welcoming & tidy atmosphere. I think the food was pretty good, too!

  • Samantha C.

Excellent Pork and bean Pupusa and Salvadorian herb pupusa. The cabbage and sauce it comes with is a must because it balances out the flavor from the pupusa. The carne asada (all-meat, no beans/rice) was not good. The meat wasn't authentic and the tortilla it was wrapped in wasn't good. Also tried their Salvadorian 'sweet quesadilla' cake and it was good only when it's warmed up. Ordering from their food truck would be better because they said you pretty much get the same food, but don't need to pay taxes. Their truck had left by the time I wanted to order so I just ordered through their drive-thru window and the person helping me was super nice! Would definitely come back for more pupusas!

Best Latin food you'll find unless you're going to Santa Barbara. The only place I eat on the 5. Pupusas and tacos are the move and their guac is superb and made on the spot.

  • Juliana T.

I went through the drive thru which seemed easy enough but the wait for my Papusa's were almost 20 min. It wasn't until 10 minute into my order did they tell me this. Hmmmm...

  • Jenny M.

I have been on the lookout for the best pupusas that I can find and Tita's wins the prize. I like all of them, but the squash is my favorite. Look, I know that it may seem silly to stop on the 5 and waste time going to or coming from someplace more interesting that Buttonwillow, but really, it is worth it. The wait is longer than the fast food places, but you are getting an actual meal made with real food for cheap. I always make my travel companions stop here, and they always tell me that they are glad that I talked them into it.

If you get a chance, eat here. The sit down. The pupuseria is amazing. Beans were phenom. Go crazy on the pupus. Or whatever they are. I tried the one that made no sense. Basically El Salvador vegetable pupu. Yup. Yum.

Elite travelers stop here. Great place to take a break from the highway madness. I've been here about five times now, never disappointed. Salvadorean cooking is a step up from average Mexican food in my opinion so check it out if you get a chance.

Solid. I had the carnitas tacos, rice and beams. It was cooked well and not undercooked like lots of places. A good stop off the 5 freeway. Friendly service too.

I LOVE hole in the wall places that deliver amazing food. its the way to go for sure. The boyfriend and I stopped by to grab lunch on our way up back to the bay. He had never had pupusas before so we decided to give it a go! Cute decor and effort for place in the middle of highway 5! props! great chips and salsa. They kept it coming (also a plus). The boy friend ordered the taco plate with a pork and cheese pupusa. I ordered the 2 pupusa combo plate. Both our plates came out with a large portion of rice and beans and the pupusas were done to perfection and very authentic! I had squash and cheese and bean and cheese for my 2 pupusas. My favorite was the squash and cheese it was light with perfect richness from the cheese. The bean one was little on the heavier side, but if you're hungry thats the choice for you! My boyfriend also agreed the squash one was on the money. My favorite part of the whole meal? The hot sauce and pickled cabbage that came with the pupusas. It rounded out the whole meal. Needless to say I was full the rest of the day and more.

Pros: A nice, quick place with good prices and big portions. Friendly service, good flavors overall. Cons: greasy, flies, no bathroom (since it's a truck). Plenty of other places for bathroom nearby.

Stopped on way home from S.F, had a chicharon Pupusa. It was ok, kind of soggy, but decent. Asada tacos were not good, meat didn't look good, would not recommend.

We were driving back from LA down the mind numbing I-5 and interested in a bit of lunch. Having read a lot of reviews about Tita's we were going back and forth about if we wanted to try them out or take the faster option over at Carl's Jr. Well, in the end we decided to go ahead and give Tita's a try. We definitely made the right choice! We both ordered the pupusa special (2 pupusas with rice and beans - $9.25.) I ordered the squash and the loroco and Eric had the pork and the loroco. We were served some chips and salsa when we put in our order. The chips are pretty standard and the salsa had a nice fresh flavor, but wasn't spicy enough to keep us from turning to the Tapatio on the table. All told, it did take about half an hour to get our plates - but they were clearly hot, fresh and handmade, which we appreciated. When the plates came out we were both pleasantly surprised by the giant tub of curtido (pickled cabbage) that accompanied our pupusas and the thin salsa was also fresh tasting but not registering on the hot enough scale for me (I love my spice!) We both liked the pupusas with the loroco and I loved the squash one, but Eric felt the pork one was maybe a tad too "porky" for his tastes and would choose a different filling next time. We found both the rice and beans to be pretty standard and in general, the portion was larger than either of us needed, so we would probably just order the pupusas by themselves next time, rather than going for the combo. Having now tried Tita's pupuseria myself, I can say that it is definitely worth leaving a little extra time in your driving schedule to stop here for lunch. It's a nice little place with a hometown feeling to it where you can relax from the otherwise grueling drive, take in some cool air conditioner and enjoy some delicious pupusas.

Oh my goodness. This place is so good. I'm headed to LA again this week -- maybe I should cancel my flight and drive again. Tita's has so many delicious and uncommon menu items (to start with, pupusas), that I always want to take a cooler of food to go. On my last trip, I enjoyed (and was stuffed after) two pupusas (one cheese, one chili, I think), side of (very good) guacamole, and agua fresca (maybe jamaica?). I was a little jealous of my friend, who enjoyed this massive combo plate in the appetizer section that included an egg, a line of plantains, beans, tortillas, and like seventeen other things (ok, I may be exaggerating, but it looked super good to me). We each spent about $12 total, I think. This is not fast food. This is a delicious quality meal. If you're lucky, like we were, you can watch Jurassic Park on TV. Ha!

Stopped for lunch at a friend's suggestion. I ordered 2 pupusas.....a big mistake.....they are Huge. One is sufficient for lunch or dinner. The pork and cheese was my favorite. Lots of melted cheese and thin slices of pork. I also ordered the cheese and squash....very good also. The person I was with had a choriza and eggs...delish he stated. It takes a few minutes to get homemade food....what is with the complains about taking so much time? Stop if you are in the area....ultra clean restaurant and great food. Bathroom was clean...what is with the guy who said there was none???Weirdo!!

Work carries me out of Bakersfield alot, and Tita's is usually one of my return stops when I'm craving carnitas or chile verde. I've tried a little bit of everything there, but check out the pic of that burrito, it's huge! The real secret tho is that they include the bark and cracklings when they shred their pork so the texture isn't just one note. Ya, service can be a bit slow at times, but it has always been worth the wait and that grabs a 5 star from me.

An oasis in the desert of I-5. It has a food truck so the location is now right off the highway..no excuses. We will be back. The food was excellent. I had the beef torte and it was great. Wife tried the veggie pupusa and liked it alot.

Not bad for a side of the road stop. Nothing terrible or fantastic. Was fine for a quick stop en route if you're passing by around lunch but definitely not a destination location.

This is for the fixed-location Restaurant, NOT the Truck, which is reviewed here: yelp.com/biz/titas-pupus… There IS a vast difference in wait times, hours of operation, food selection, and service. Hubs and Son have brought me Tita's pupusas a couple of times when they are on their way back from camping. They are phenomenal. Juicy, oozey, crusty, salty, big as a frisbee, just awesome and everything a pupusa should be. I actually think Tita's pupusas are the only reason Son agrees to camp with his Pop. I was excited to try them on a recent family road trip to SF. We got there early, like 7am, so only the restaurant was open at that time. (Yes, we decided to have pupusas for b'fast. Don't judge) Hubs had never been in the restaurant but we assumed it was the same as the truck. They had a full breakfast menu. There were a couple other tables waiting for food when we ordered. We ordered four pupusas, a couple of horchatas, a Salvadoran breakfast (fried banana, beans and crema) and a breakfast burrito. The food was great. (although the pupusas seemed a little smaller than what I had from the truck) The wait was not. We were anxious to get back on the road and Tita's set us back an hour. They did not serve fried yucca (we were told only the truck serves it..?..), and we had to ask for the salsa and cortido. The service was kind, but a little airheaded and sllloooowwwww..................................................... Verdict: If you have the time, sit down, order a beer, and relax. Order a ton of food--- it is really delicious---- and then take a nap. Or, maybe the truck is faster? IDK. As for vegans and vegetarians, Salvadoran food is pork-lard based, like real Mexican food. That's why it tastes so damn good. Your choices are limited here because, well YOU limited your choices. I don't think its fair to rate a place like this low because they don't accommodate an extremely restrictive diet. If you can't eat chocolate, don't go to See's Candy and then give it 2 stars....

Not just by-the-side-of-the-highway delicious, but actually damn delicious. Get the Pupusas!

I was expecting alot from all the rave reviews about their pupusas, but was really disappointed. Sure, it was made to order, but it wasn't flavorful and my pork and cheese was mostly cheese with bits of meat in the center. My guy had the carnitas burrito and was Extremely disappointed with it, he didn't even finish it! That.never.happens! The chicken taco was alright, I finished it mainly because I was starving and it was the first thing I ate. Nothing worth stopping here for unfortunately.

After sleeping at the Econo Lodge for 6 weeks a couple of years ago for work,I became very acquainted with this place. All the times I ate here, I was never disappointed even when they were one of the only games in town. Cheers!

With all the rave reviews, I was really looking forward to trying out Tita's on the road trip back home from LA. We have a great pupseria in Sacramento where your own personal abuela makes the pupusas con mucho amor, and I wanted to see what this tiny burg of Buttonwillow had to offer. It was alright. It got off to a sad start when the server told us there were no Salvadorean tamales available. The cook doesn't make them on a regular basis. Well, he'll. Don't put them on the menu then! Perhaps unwarranted, but I was grumpy. Fortunately, we didn't have a long wait, but The Mexican tamale was ok, the rice and beans were a bit bland, and the squash-cheese pupusa was ok but a bit greasy. For a little hole-in-the-wall joint in the middle of nowhere, it's a change of pace if you want to try something other than standard fast food and support a local business. But if you want to get a feel for Salvadorean food, this is not the place.

Fairly good Pupusa and nice to have something besides another Burger or Taco Bell. Next time I will try the Tamales or Plantains..

Idk why everyone is giving this restaurant 4 or 5 stars because the food here is not that great. Meat was not tender and vegetables were definitely not fresh. Anyone who knows anything about Mexican food will hate this place

This is the only good place to eat between LA and SF on the 5. What to get: Squash & Cheese Pupusa - great! Platanos Fritos with crema (comes with refried beans but not necessary) Chicken Enchilada - basic but good Overall go for the pupusas.

Now for all to notice - There is a truck when you come off the ramp going north. Down the street a bit farther north (3 hundred yards) is Titas Restaurant. (inside and air conditioned) Same Recipes - same people. We use the restaurant all the time now - A five star truck! You heard it right, A Five Star truck! I love this place and they make top of the line pupusas! Listen TOP OF THE LINE! it takes a few minutes and is totally worth it. A dirt lot, with a tin shed covers your dining table, the hot plate of beans (all the beans you want) and the salsa bar in the side of the truck (don't miss ti - I almost did) The al pastor taco was nice, but the melting cheese flowing out of the fat pupusa is to be remembered and will bring you back as you ROAR down 5 at 85! stop in button willow and enjoy this one!

The al pastor tacos were amazing! Very good Papusas as well! Nice that they had covered tables to sit and eat at. I was very surprised to see how fast they were as well! Def a better stop for food when driving, rather than fast food options.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I live in Southern California where good, authentic Mexican food is everywhere! My mom ordered the enchiladas with rice and beans platter and the cheese enchiladas were delicious! We're particular about the red sauce that comes on the enchiladas and their sauce was very good. I had a hard beef taco and the meat was absolutely fabulous. I feel like I could have eaten four of those tacos. I also ordered a bean and cheese burrito made enchilada style and the server was really helpful and the cook made a special order for me because they didn't have the sauce ready-made so they accommodated my request very nicely. We also tried the bean and cheese pupusa and I thought it was delicious. I added some of their fabulous salsa and sour cream and it was outstanding. The food here was great and the service was even better!

I am somewhat of a Mexican food contesuer. Please do not eat at this restaurant. It is really rough! Trust me. I was with three other friends and we all got separate dishes...the food is pretty bad. Not going to lie. Great restaurant great people but rough food.

*This is for the restaurant, not the Taco truck* The fiance and I decided to make a quick lunch run while at work in Wasco. We had been hearing about Tita's for quite some time, and were ready for a great lunch experience courtesy of our fellow Yelpers. The location is nothing exciting. It's an old Burger King building in a travel center. We walked in and found ourselves a little confused where to go. Front counter or tables? We walked up to the front, and waited a few minutes before we were told to sit if we wanted to eat in or order at the front to go. We sat ourselves in a corner table that could desperately use a clean rag. The plastic table covers were a little sticky, and the seat cushion was ripped down the center and full of crumbs. Those kinds of things don't bother, but for some they may. The real issue for me, was the food. The chips and salsa were not good, and I'm definitely not a C&S elitist. The chips were over fried and had a bitter and old taste. The salsa was very plain, no flavor and no heat. More like a pico de gallo. The pupusa's were pretty good, but not what I was expecting. If you like a plain white cheese quesadilla, then you'll find this to your liking. And for 2.95, it's a great price. We also got two burritos, one chile verde and another al pastor. They were very large and definitely could fill a big guy up. The al pastor was sweet, but there was very little meat and little too much sauce, which cause the entire burrito to be one soggy mess. Overall, it's a decent place to stop for some inexpensive eats. I guess I was expecting something more because of all the fantastic Yelp reviews. I love hole in the wall places, and the aesthetics didn't bother me a bit. But the food left me wondering what I had missed. I'll probably give Tita's another try later on and re-review my experience.

Wow, who would've thought such a place would exist in the middle of trip from LA to SJ off the 5? Was feeling a bit hungry on the way home, and we decided to make a pit stop in Buttonwillow again. Saw a Taco Bell sign, but then saw a sign for Pupusas! We saw a little truck, and opted not to eat there, thinking it was the Pupusa place (which I believe it is, but there's also a restaurant). With TB not being in sight, we decided to have a longer sit down meal at Tita's Pupuseria. We walked to the front, thinking we'd order, but she gave us menus and had us sit down at a table of our choice. At 3:30 PM on a Sunday, the restaurant had a good amount of tables taken. I decided to get two of the pork and cheese pupusas ($2.85 each). Little brother decided on the special, which comes with 2 pupusas of your choice and a side of rice and beans ($9.50 or so - which I don't think it's worth the extra $4!). During our wait, we heard the soccer game on the TV behind us and munched on the tortilla chips and salsa. Salsa was decent, but wish it had more flavor and spice. Eons later, I see the table behind us get their pupusas. I gasped. They were the largest pupusas I have ever seen! Size of pancakes you'd get at IHOP! I was imagining smaller than half the size they were, as that is what I am used to. Ours came out shortly after, and we had a jar of cabbage slaw and hot sauce to go with it. If I knew they were going to be this big, I definitley would've only ordered 1. They were pretty tasty, but I wish it had more substance inside. Since they were pretty thin, I could barely taste the pork, but definitley tasted the cheese, although it was burnt as some had oozed out while cooking it. Went well with the slaw they provided, and added some tapatio for that extra flavor. We both took one each to go, as there was no way we could finish all of that. They also provided us baggies of the slaw to go as well. I reheated it the next day, and it was still good, but not as good as being fresh off the pan. This place did put us out for awhile out of our trip since it takes awhile to receive the pupusas. Also, the service was not great, we had to keep going to our waitress since she never came by, and she gave us our food without any utensils. She then started chatting for awhile with our utensils in her hands.

I stopped here to have lunch and I had problems with my card. So I paid cash and came up short. The cashier was nice to let it slide! Only a dollar and some change. The food was great and held me until dinner. I'd definitely stop here again.

I haven't had a pupusa in about 2 years. Driving to Sacramento from Phoenix I found this little gem in the middle of no where. Let me say that this was the most amazing pupusas I've had. The owner brought it out to me and sat with me while I ate as I was lone traveler. Don't know if ill ever be in this area again but if I am I will hit this place up for sure!!! PS: I have this place 4 stars just for the food. The local is a catering truck with some chairs outside and it was hot. No complains though. Amazing.

Great Breakfast! Totally surprised me! I am marking this on my list every time we come into town. The place is clean and the service was good. Love that it is El Salvadorian which is rare to see it adds to the appeal. The wait was a little long but worth it. What I ordered: Hashbrowns with Chorizo & Eggs, salsa $7.50 Reasonably prices, much needed in the area, and not your typical Hispanic breakfast, Mark it on your list too to eat here ;)

Stopped in this small restaurant instead of the usual fast food on the way to a hotel in Bakersfield. My wife always says the looks do not mean excellent food. The Pupusa's ROCK.

Our favorite pit-stop en-route to SoCal. Very reasonable and delicious!! Love the complimentary freshly made chips and salsa. We have tried their beef and chicken burritos which are filling and delicious. They are known for their Pupusas which are all delicious, especially the cheese and pork. Recommend this mom and pop place instead of chain-restaurant junk!!

There was really bad traffic on the 5 due to construction and it was 105 degrees and I really had to pee, so I stopped here instead of at Lost Hills. After checking yelp and seeing the reviews for this place, I went in for some food. I walked in, was told to take a seat by a waitress at the counter and walked by the waitress on the floor - who saw me. And yet, despite that there weren`t many customers around, it took her 10-15 minutes just to come by with the menu. Then, she comes back after like 2 minutes and when I ask for another minute, she takes another 10-15 minutes to come back. I ordered chile verde, fish and shrimp tacos, as well as a cheese & pork pupusa. I literally waited about 1 hour and 15 minutes. I wish I were exaggerating. It was so ridiculous! The food was great but who has the time to wait that long when I`m in the middle of a 7 hour drive?! Yeah, they give you chips and salsa but my chips were definitely burned. You could already tell by looking at them, but they also left a very bitter aftertaste. The salsa was probably from the bottom of the jar because it was all water and no salsa. Not to mention, my waitress was so rude! Aside from avoiding eye contact every time we spoke, she kept doing random little tasks instead of coming back to my table - which would be fine if I had my food and water. Which, by the way, I asked for water several times and after like 30 minutes, she comes back and goes: "What drink did you want again?" ... Lord. So you would think she would go get me water after that. But no, she goes behind the counter and starts talking to another waitress for the next 30 minutes. With a drink in her hand. As if to taunt me. Anyway, I`m rambling. The point is, while the food is good, it`s not worth it. In all that time, I could have delivered a baby.

Came in an hour before they closed, and all the chairs were already stacked. The girl at the counter asked if we'd like it for here or to go and I said "For here.....buuut it kinda looks like you want us to go." She nodded. We placed our order, then sat awkwardly outside since the inside seating was already roped off. When it was done, we received our pupusas in takeout containers, with the curtido and salsa awkwardly packaged in tied-off plastic bags. You'll have to pierce the bag with a fork and squirt it on your food for the most efficient application. We hauled our grub over the Carl's Jr., bought a Coke, and felt like the biggest white trash ever bringing our own takeout into a burger joint. But at least we had somewhere to sit. Pupusas were alright, I'd eat them again. Considering the effort involved, however, next time I'll just get the Famous Star and call it a night. :P

Its a 3 hour drive from my home as I made my way to San Francisco off THE 5 Fwy and I thought my Riverside place was the best. STANDING OVATION for this joint for their lorocco flower and cheese pupusa's. 2 of them were to big for one plate!!! This place is mandatory anytime im near the 5 Fwy . Food may be alright, but travelers be warned! Protip#1: If you're on a time crunch and don't have a fancy hour to snooze until you hit the roads again, just go the local Subway/fast-food joints. It took 20 minutes for the food to be prepared and served. Protip#2: Food mishaps may happen. There was a confusion and they got the order wrong - no meat please, but we got it. +10 more minutes to bring back the corrected dish. Protip#3: If you have a special diet, they won't accommodate. Although there are dishes vegetarians can enjoy, it was quite the surprise when I couldn't order a veggie burrito because all of the options had meat in them and the only accommodation they would make was a "rice and bean" burrito. No thanks, not for $6. Vegan? Forget about it. +Pro (compliment): Pupusas were fairly large, about 6 inches in diameter! +Pro (compliment): Food tasted alright, although it could have more flavor to it. All in all, it may be a nice place... if you simply have the time and will.

I was expecting something much more with all of the high reviews, however our experience was one star at most. My supreme burrito was almost inedible. My husband only ate part of his meal (which is unusual). My son took one bite of the chips and would not eat anything else. The chips had a funny taste. The waitress never offered any drink refills for us. I suggest eating anywhere but here.

We stopped in after several hours of driving, in our quest for something different & a chance to relax before getting back on the road, what a treat! My hubby got huevos rancheros which he said were the best he'd ever had :) Our waitress suggested the pupusa's when I asked for a recommendation, I had 2: pork & cheese and loroco & cheese. Oh my, what a treat, not quite like anything I'd have before! Rice & beans were good too & portions are generous. The slaw which you get to put on top of your pupusa's is the bomb! I love that the people who own this place & their lunch truck 2 doors down are an immigrant success story, a couple who came to America, worked hard & put their kids through college. As other reviewers say, it took a fairly long time for our food to be prepared so if you're in a hurry, Tita's is not the place for you. We left refreshed & full of yummy food as we continued our journey!

Of all my years driving on I-5, In-N-Out has always been the designated food stop...until now. During my most recent trip down, I decided to see if there was anything interesting on the road that I could stop by and try. I found Tita's and decided to give it a try. Fast forward to a couple days later. A warm Friday night on desolate I-5 as we enter Tita's and are sat down by our friendly water. The service was pretty slow at times, but hilarious whenever it did come by. "Hello what would you like to order." "Umm I'll have a burrito con lenga, a bean and cheese pupusa, and a pork and cheese pupusa." "O_____O DAMN you must be really hungry" "Yea it's been a long drive. JK the pupusas are for sharing!" - Pupusas: Bean & Cheese, Pork & Cheese. OH EM GEE. These were probably some of the best pupusas I've ever had. The cheese was perfectly melted and the pork cooked to perfection. The overall blend with the special sauce just made the whole dish taste absolutely amazing. After we put the cabbage on top, it got a bit too soggy. so only put a moderate amount on. - Burritos: I got the burrito con lengua (cow tongue...my favorite!) and it was out of this world! For just $6, you're served a HUGE burrito packed with meat, beans, rice, and a whole bunch of other shit that was just too good. It was so huge I couldn't really eat it with my hands, so the knife and fork came in handy. Definitely one of the best burritos I've had. I don't think any place on the drive down to Socal gets better than Tita's. DEFINITELY worth visiting for the hungry traveler, whether you like Mexican food or not. The place is actually Salvadorian and Mexican, which contributes to a fascinating blend of dishes.

Best carnitas taco I have ever had! My friend just came back from Costa Rica recently and she and I made a trip down to San Diego together. I am a foodie at heart, and love trying new restaurants and hole in the walls. I saw this food truck on my left as I stopped to pour gas and I gave it a try. The Pupusas are better than the ones in Costa Rica she told me. They were pretty good with its cheesy goodness. And I will definitely get another order when I am in the area, but I have to tell you to try the Carnita Tacos! These tacos were the best and most flavorful carnita tacos, I have had. I have been doing Taco Tuesdays for the last month and a half trying new taco places, and these tacos are divine. At $1.75 each, add one of these bad boys to your pupusa order and go to food heaven.

Great food. I'll say it again: Great food. Pupusas are out of this world. We stumbled upon this place while searching for Indian food (now closed). There is a Salvadoran cart and restaurant. I'm not sure if they are associated, but drive past the cart and eat at the restaurant. The atmosphere is horrible, way too many signs with conflicting menus and specials, giant televisions suspended from the ceiling screaming out Mexican game shows. The staff is inexperienced and inattentive. But once you get the food, you'll forget all of this. I recommend pupusas, black beans, plantain, and sour cream. You will not be disappointed. Also, there are a million good Mexican places in California, but not a lot of Salvadoran food. Stick with the Salvadoran offerings. Force your kids to try a pupusa; they'll be a fan for life.

Tita's has gone down hill a bit. I'm not sure if they switched owners or something, but for the last 3 or 4 years the al pastor, which used to be some of the best I have ever tasted, now tastes kind of bland. Everything is still decent, and it certainly is better than anything within around 100 miles but it used to be like "how may more miles til Tita's ... I can't wait ... must have tacos/papusas now!" Now its just a good place to stop while driving along the 5.

  • Jason U.

I'll keep this short, as not much needs to be said about this place. It's good food on an otherwise ~barren road stretching from the greater LA area North, until you reach civilization in either Sacramento or the Bay Area. Pupusas: respectable, better than most in LA. Burritos: specify spicy and it shall be so. Otherwise, they tend to cater towards clientele lacking flavor tolerance. Jalapenos (added at no additional cost) were much appreciated. As was the enormous portion size. Other stuff: tacos were fine. Generally: good. Which seems unusual, given the location. Driving N or S? Stop here. 'Nuff said.

  • John T.

I had 2 pupusas here: cheese with pork and cheese with squash. It took a little longer for the pupusas to appear than I expected, but they were hot and delicious. I love Taco Bell - not that I think it's authentic - but this little spot is a great change of pace and reasonably priced.

There is a lighted sign at the curb advertising a drive through window, but it has pictures of ice cream, not Mexican or El Salvadorean food on it, hmmm. When you arrive at the menu board, there is a hand lettered sign stating that they will take your order at the window - not promising, but I've already driven out this far to try it so I'm not backing down yet. The homemade sign on the window says "Honk for Assistance. Thank You!!" Yes, there were two (!!) exclamation points on the sign, and the handwriting was nicer than mine, so I haven't been scared off yet. They charged $9.92 for the two pupusa plate with rice & beans. (I ordered the revueltas which I believe are stuffed with pork & cheese). I ordered at the drive through hoping for quick snack. As she gave me the change, she said the order would be ready in 10 minutes. Frankly, if she'd told me that up front I wouldn't have bothered, but at this point I'm kind of committed. This place is a little hole in the wall, but they do take Discover, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, even Diners Club International, or, at least, yet another sign posted in their window asserted that they do. And, remember, I had a full 10 minutes to read the signs :) In exactly 10 minutes, give or take 30 seconds, my food arrived. Any pupusa enthusiast will tell you that they're not an "eat in the car as you are driving" type of food, a lesson I was only just figuring out. I pulled over to the side of the road and cut them up into fork appropriate pieces, doused everything in hot sauce, and then headed back to Bakersfield. I really enjoyed their pupusas, which for the uninitiated are thick doughy creations made from masa and stuffed with meat and cheese, warm melty oh-so-gooey yummy cheese. I liked both the flavor and the texture, but the hot sauce was not my fave. This place has pretty solid food, but I don't know that I'd drive all the way out from Bakersfield again just to try it. I'd definitely stop here again on my way home from a road trip, though.

BEST place to stop between S.F. and L.A. That's not saying much, I know, I know, but seriously, Tita's is almost reason enough to make that drive! The pupusas are almost too good to be true, and the squash is exceptional. It's right off the freeway, so just go. You will smile about it the rest of the trip. The only thing not awesome is the bathroom.

Where else can you find a delicious beef tongue burrito for around $5? Of course at Tita's Pupuseria! (not to be confused with Tito's!). This was probably one of the best beef tongue burritos I've ever had. I can only imagine what it would be like to get a beef tongue taco without all the other ingredients getting in the way. The beef tongue was tender, soft, flavorful and went with the burrito so well. The chicken burrito was pretty good as well and their pupusa was alright ... I didn't think it was all that but their pork taco = deliciouso!!!! We had a whole feast, and I do mean feast for two for two days for around $15 (wow??) and it was right next to Motel 6. There's no better way to be lazy than to grab a feast for two after a long day of sitting around doing nothing at the track and coming back to the motel room to feast and sleep. great restaurant.

We've been to Tita's a few times now in the past 2 years, on each of our 3 road trips to SoCal. I'm not sure we'll be stopping again. Yes, I like their pupusas, with sofrito and the hot sauce, washed down with a bottle of cold Negro Modelo. It's far better than the typical chain restaurant option off the 5 freeway. Yet here's why I hesitate to go back: 1. Too damn slow. Is there someone growing the corn out back to make the masa before making the pupusas? I wish getting pupusas to eat did not entail an hour or more long pit stop. When you're tired and itching to get back on the freeway, an hour is just too long. 2. Other items are ho-hum. My girls get tacos or quesadillas while my husband has tried burritos, tacos, etc. He likes their lengua, but I haven't been impressed by the other food. The guacamole was particularly disappointing--it tasted like bland mushy avocado. Where's the kick? In fact, in addition to missing spices, where's the salt? 3. There's always some loud futbol game or telenovela blaring on the TV. After being cooped up in a car for 3 hours, the last thing I want is more noise. Normally, I don't care about that sort of thing (heck, my favorite Korean hole-in-the-wall restaurant always has Korean soap operas on at such a high volume that the cook in the back can hear it!). But I'm looking for a restful break when I'm on the road. Notice I didn't comment on cleanliness or decor. I don't expect much from my hole-in-the-wall restaurants and Tita's is actually a little nicer than some of my favorite ones. They have clear vinyl covering the tables, so yes, elbows will stick to it. They have lots of fake plants and random beer posters. Whatever. It's not a place you'd choose to celebrate a special occasion and it's far cleaner than most places (especially if you've traveled outside the US and Europe). Suffice to say, on our way home from our last trip, we decided to just stop at In-N-Out. Not as unique, no beer options, and not as fast as other chains, but still better than the ordeal of waiting at Tita's when you're tired and cranky!

Salvadorean homestyle cuisine. An oasis of civilization in the midst of sad fast food restaurants. Excellent papusas. Delicious steamed tamales. Reasonable prices.

Sloooooow service is right! It has pretty decent chips and salsa. The food wasn't that great though. The chile rellano was kind of soggy and not really fried too well. I always get that dish at latin places just to compare. The enchilada was missing a kick to it. The beans and rice were good. The pupusa was good though.

I usually don't write too many reviews. But this place pissed me off. I went there twice while staying in a crap motel because this place is located in a dump town. I will admit I'm a little spoiled on my business travels due to my high standings with airlines and nice hotel chains. But this place blows. When I went there the first time, the waitress acted like I was a bother to her. Ordered the carne asada steak. $15. Not worth it. Thought I got a bad deal the first time, went back again (because there is really nothing else besides chains) and I was disappointed again. I ordered the carne asada burrito supreme. It was HUGE!!! But there was about 00000.001 ounces of meat in it. It was 99.99999 % rice and BS. Nasty. Never going back. And with that 7lb burrito, I got 1 glass of water. And the place was not even busy this time. Maybe 4 other people total. This place sux!

I don't hand out 5 Star ratings on a whim. A business has to earn it; and Tita's did! We were at Buttonwillo for a track weekend and ate here for dinner both nights. It was that good and the menu had lots of things I NEEDED to try! Food: The Pork&Cheese Papusa w/hot sauce and cole slaw were killer. I have to say that the highlight of my meals was the Chile Verde Tacos though; really really good! I also had the Menudo; which was awesome. Service: Great group of folks running the place; always smiling and spending time chatting with you to make sure you have everything you need. They honestly moved the rating up a star; we had a great time just laughing with the staff. Decor: Clean and nice. Excellent for Buttonwillow. $$$: Food and beer was a lot cheaper than I expected. I know where I'll be eating in Buttonwillow for now on! Cheers!

Stopped here to take a break from being on the road- wanted to feed our kids something other than McDonalds. Good service, good food, and nice to get out of the car for a bit to stretch our legs.

what and where is BUTTONWILLOW?! literally in the middle of no-whereville. me and my friends were driving back to the bay area from vegas, a long 7 hour drive that felt more like 12 hours. after driving for what felt like days in the desert, we got hungry and decided to get a quick bite. we didn't want mcdonalds and my friend suggested taco bell. well, there was no taco bell, but we passed by tita's, (makes me think of tit-tays) and i did a quick yelp and based on the stellar reviews, decided to walk in. i was expecting some horror film, run-down restaurant, but was pleasantly surprised to find the opposite. the inside was homey and inviting and we quickly sat down to order. since everyone and their mom on yelp suggested the pupusas, i ordered the pork and cheese pupusa along with two tacos. then the waiting game began. we were all starving and when the complementary chips came, we literally ate it in a minute. then we waited. and waited. and waited. and waited. and can you believe it, we waited some more! where the hell were our pupusas?!?! but then, i see our waitress coming over to our table, and as if the spanish soap opera knew what was about to happen, i could hear magical music playing in the background. it was our food. our delicious delicious food. and the portions were HUGE. i didn't even know what a pupusa was, but i knew at that moment it was the best salvadorian dish i've ever had. i didn't care that my brain and stomach told me to slow down; my taste buds urged me to keep going. it was the best middle-of-no-where, long-drive-from-vegas, stuck-in-the-car-for-12-hours meal i've ever had. and if i happen to ever be in BUTTONWILLOW again, i will definitely make the trip back. the end.

Highway 5 in California exists for one reason-- to make the SF-to-LA drive an hour shorter. It is the straightest, dullest, most reviled stretch of asphalt on the face of the Earth. Literally the most interesting thing on I-5 between Sacramento and the Grapevine is the incredible stench coming from an industrial sized cattle farm. But, hey, it serves its purpose. On a recent driving vacation, I thought it might be a nice change to see what I could find that was, you know, interesting on I-5. Nothing. Nada. Failing that, I thought I could at least find us a place to eat that was something better than food we would wait in line to pick up. Tita's Pupuseria was it. Really, the only one. The entire list. We'd get there right about lunchtime, so seemed like a good choice. I foolishly decided to ignore the landslide of Yelp reviews that complained about the insanely long wait for food that takes minutes to actually cook. Poor timing, right? Bad experience, right? Exaggeration, right? Wrong. Tita's was far from full when we got there. Maybe 5 other groups, and I'm pretty sure a few of them brought their own lunch from home. We ordered a collection of pupusas and tacos. Then, we waited. And waited. And waited. And.... 50 minutes in, we inquired about lunch (fearing that it might become dinner. Or tomorrow's breakfast). For the fourth time. We were told that our food was slow because of a large party at the restaurant ahead of us. That would be the table of SIX. Um, OK, 6 qualifies as a mad lunch rush in Buttonwillow I suppose. Two were small children that did not eat anything. An hour (really. An hour) in, our pupusas and tacos show up. Dad is cranky. He has made the kids uncomfortable, and Mom is maybe a little afraid that the empty chips and salsa basket (which took 20 minutes to show up, I should add) would get hurled at someone's head. Nobody is happy. Everyone misses the smell of cow poop and the bluegrass music that Dad is inflicting on the whole family while driving. We'd all rather stare at our dead Kindles and the endless straight line of freeway than stay in Buttonwillow even one second more. Until we took a bite. Cranky as I was, this was, flat-out, the best pupusa I've ever tasted. My carnitas taco was incredible, too. It wasn't just starvation, either, or even Stockholm Syndrome. It was amazing. Indescribably good. The. Best. Pupusa. Ever. So, I guess the choice is yours. Is a grilled bit of cheese and pork straight from heaven worth tossing out the time savings gained by eschewing a stunning drive down the California Coast in favor of the smell of cow dung? Did you need that hour of your life? Because that is the cost of going to Tita's. You decide. You have been warned.

Delicious food! The pupusa was fantastic, and the huevos rancheros were the best my husband has ever had.

The food was good, but I can't say I'd recommend this place. It was pretty empty as I strolled in on a Saturday afternoon looking to refuel before heading back down the I-5 to So Cal. The food took forever to come. I find it hard to believe it takes an hour to cook up some eggs and pupusas. The only explanation I could come up with is that the corn tortillas were handmade to order. They were really tasty, thick, chewy, and pipping hot. If you have 2 hours to kill and want somewhere to waste some time come here. If you want to get back on the road and get to where ever you're heading, skip it.

Tita's is one of the few landmarks that makes the long, tedious, arduous drive from the Bay Area to Los Angeles on I-5 tolerable for your intrepid yet exhausted reviewer. There are only so many trips up and down that long, straight, flat stretch of highway that a person can take before losing it completely. Luckily, this place is there for reassurance (yay I'm almost there!/well, I'm on my way home now!)...and PUPUSAS!!! If you know me at all (which, to be fair, very few of you do), you know that I'm a sucker for masa and cheese. Stuff masa with cheese, fry it on a griddle, and voilà: happiness! Add a little curtido (or Salvi Slaw, if you prefer) and salsa roja and I'm in gooey, greasy heaven. I don't know if I can tell the difference between a "good" pupusa and a "bad" one--and I don't know if I really care to be able to. I'm not a foodie and am pretty proud of that fact. What I do know, though, is that when I'm driving up or down the 5 and famished (or just really bored), Tita's showing up on the side of the road puts a smile on my little face. I haven't eaten anything here besides the pupusas, and I've only had cheese pupusas, but I don't really feel the need to try anything else. I get some cheesy goodness and a beverage, sit for a while watching soccer or a novela on the TV, do a little people watching, and then hop back in my car for a few more hours of tedium. I won't lie and say that I stop at Tita's every time I drive to/from Los Angeles, but I'm certainly glad that it exists, because I might very well go completely insane without it. Just knowing it exists is a comfort. And now, so that people with FUC me, I know all about AUTHENTIC Salvadorian food (I don't) because of my numerous trips to El Salvador (I've never been), and I have to say that Tita's Pupuseria provides THEE MOST AUTHENTIC AND DELICIOUS PUPUSAS ON ALL OF THE 5 (this is probably true; haven't seen any other pupuserias on the way from the Bay to Los Angeles). But if you're like me and aren't concerned with authenticity or proving how multicultural you are when eating "ethnic" cuisine (refraining from my diatribe about how the adjective "ethnic" is inherently racist and stupid) and only care about something tasty, stop here when you're about to poke your eyeballs out from boredom on the 5. It's cheesy, it's yummy, it's inexpensive. You'll like it. Well, you should, anyway.

If you like to wait an average of 45min to 1 hour for a normal every day mexican food, then I will say that this place is perfect. But I don't! I give then several chances. My first visit waited one hour and I thought that maybe was one of those day when a business is short of staff. Second time I waited 45 min. The third and last chance to this place, I waited 30 minutes before I decide to walk away and not to keep waiting for my food. I have to say, that the restaurant it wasn't busy any of the three visit like to excuse the waiting time.

What. A. Gem. Heading back to LA after a trip up North, the man and I were looking for something to fill our tummies outside the fast food/convenience store options. Trusty Yelp did us well again, and I was blown away at how fresh and tasty the Pupusas were! Granted it was my first experience enjoying this cuisine, but I could tell by the crowd lined up to order that they were doing something right. I ordered the pupusa with squash and cheese (since I don't eat meat, I didn't have a ton of options, but luckily the ones I did have were good). Plus, the portions are absolutely massive...so I took it home and had Pupusas again for lunch the next day. Absolutely delish.

Delicious papusas and tacos! $10.50 got us lunch for 2 people plus drinks. So much better than fast food, plus you're supporting a small business. If you're looking for some good, cheap eats along the I-5, this is excellent!

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place because the wait was excruciatingly slow. We sat down for dinner at 6 p.m. on a Sunday night. It wasn't packed. We ordered within 10 minutes of arrival. Food took at least 30 minutes to get to our table. In that time, we watched one couple complain about the wait and another literally walk out when their food never arrived. Once we finally got the food, it was good (not the best I've ever had but good), but we were in such a sour mood after the long wait that we couldn't enjoy it. Something I don't think the other reviews have mentioned is that this restaurant gives priority to people who order at the drive-through window and take-out orders. I think that's why it takes so long to serve people in the restaurant. Waitress initially was friendly but never apologized about the wait and stopped talking to us when we asked for the check right after she brought the food. It took us a full hour to get in and out of here - not ideal when you're trying to drive back to the Bay Area from Los Angeles on the 5. Incredibly disappointing after all the rave reviews - we had been looking forward to it.

This place was a great surprise! We found it via yelp reviews, and I don't think we would have gone here otherwise. The food was great! I didn't know what a pupusa was but now I'm a fan. We ended up stopping for lunch here again on our return trip.

We stopped by while driving from San Diego to San Francisco Bay Area on the 5 Highway. We were starving and had stopped by another restaurant; we left immediately after seeing the people and food on the table. Luckily Yelp led us to this Oasis of a place in the barren desert, and what a treat! We got the Burrito and two tacos. They tasted heavenly. Definitely worth a stop for lunch!

I was very please to find a place that serves real food in the dearth of I-5 between LA and SF (well, other than Harris' Ranch). And I am all for supporting local small business. The quality of the food is "decent for the area", and the portion there is HUGE - I ordered a Menudo and a pupusa, and could only finish half of the soup. The pupusa went straight into the to-go box. A BIG con is the extremely slow service. It looked like they only had 1 (or maximally 2) person(s) working behind the house in a small kitchen, and another 2 bussing tables. The restaurant was full when we were there, with continuous incoming take out customers. It took at least 45 mins for our order to arrive, and we had to inhale our food so that we could hit the road again. In retrospect, my 2 hours could have been spent more wisely, like getting to my final destination with more restaurant choices. Right? Also, they only have 1 restroom for women. So, ladies, expect to wait in line. And you'll have plenty of time to do so!

who would have thought that there would be a great pupuseria in the middle of nowhere? this place is a definite must stop on the way to SF from LA or vice versa. I got the pork and cheese pupusa which was around $2. I wish I got more varieties of it. It was definitely the star of all the entrees we got (nachos, burritos, breakfast eggs). I'll def make sure to stop by again on my next trip up and get only the pupusas.

My FAVORITE stop for delicious food that is NOT fast food off I-5 when travelling between NorCal and SoCal! Got the opportunity to eat here again 2 days ago :) Tita's serves El Salvidorian/Mexican food. I've eaten at their food truck parked right off Buttonwillow exit as well as the restaurant down the road towards the truck wash station. The restaurant food was a little better and you get free chips & salsa! You can bring the pups too since both locations have an outdoor patio. The reason we stop here is for the Carnitas tacos! It comes out slightly crisped on the outside, unlike a lot of other places that serve it soft. I also get the delicious cheese pupusa and go into a food coma while heading back on the I-5 freeway! Love it!!!

If you like Mexican food then you will not be disappointed. When I have time this is the only place I would stop and get something to eat. I am to an expert in Salvadorian food, but have had my faire share of Mexican food around the country. This please seems to be serving up some good Salvadorian food.

Roadtrip + hungry kids in the middle of nowhere + not many choices. So, if you have an hour to spare, it was a-ok. Took forever and honestly, it looked dirty--tables, bathrooms. I am not surprised about folks complaining about roaches and flies. Ugh. That is what sucks about roadtrips, all junkie dives or fastfood. I was scared of the beans so had corn tamales which were not bad. Quesadillas for kids and shrimp tacos for hubby. A-ok.

A buddy and I road tripped it to Las Vegas from the Bay Area and we had to get some gas. I see a food truck, and I automatically walk across the street to see what it was... Pupusas!!! So I got 2 Carne Asada tacos ($1 each) and 2 pork and cheese pupusas ($2.75 each). The tacos were really good and tasty but the pupusas were amazing! I'm not Drake but it's the best I ever had! I ordered the pork and cheese pupusas but didn't taste, see, or feel any pork in it. The place is infested with flys but good thing I took it to go and ate it at a nearby Mcdonalds. They also have their own building but, it didn't look open at the time so we went to the truck that was a couple steps away.

***Restaurant, not taco truck*** Tita's is a surprisingly delicious stop on the way to or from Los Angeles along the 5 (from NorCal), and I highly recommend it (especially given the fast-food alternatives). The pupusas were delicious, especially the loroco pupusa - it gives a floral quality that really sets it apart. The plain cheese was also good; we didn't care for the pork one quite as much. Warning, especially if you aren't familiar with pupusas - they're heavy, so if you tend to fall asleep on a full stomach be careful. The service was excellent and very friendly.

  • Helen W.

I love this place and it's nearly half way between Palm Springs and San Francisco which makes it the perfect place for gas and a meal. Tita's may not be the fastest dining experience but everything is made to order, fresh. If you're in a rush this is not a good choice. But if you want fresh delicious food look no further. I like both breakfast and lunch/dinner. For breakfast I love the huevos rancheros or the chorizo scramble. Otherwise, the pork and cheese papusa is awesome. Delicious fruit drinks. Yet to have anything that disappointed. Service has always be warm and pleasant. And while not rushed, everything happens in a timely matter. It's usually in and out in 30 minutes but sometimes I have spent a few minutes longer. What ever. Slow down and enjoy a papusa in the middle of I-5 and be greatful it's there!!!

It's a tragedy that I've never been to this place in all of the years I've been driving up and down the 5. I was scared. It seemed too strange to find some kind of food haven in the back region of gas station and truckstop land. Go here. It's cute inside and the food is quite delicious. You can get even get bottled Coke old-school style. Here's how good it was, I hate it when my order is screwed up with onions I don't want. The onions couldn't even ruin my meal. Finally, I have something to look forward to on that dreadful drive back to the OC.

Excellent pupusas! I got the twofer - one pork + cheese, the other squash + cheese. Each was super tasty, but the pork was extra special and not to be missed. The obligatory curtido on the side was good, but not life-changing. Chips and salsa were OK. Service was pleasant and speedy enough. My only real complaint was the unsweetened iced tea was way over-steeped and pretty much undrinkable without adding sugar. But don't let that dissuade you from stopping here for a delicious lunch on your way between SoCal and points north. You'll be glad you skipped the usual fast-food suspects in favor of these Salvadoran delights!

i'm sorry this place is so far from home, but at least now we know where to eat!! we stopped in for their breakfast burritos (bacon and huevos and chorizo and huevos), i know breakfast burritos don't count, but these were good! i'm not a fan of beans, but these were tasty (or thats what i keep telling myself)! on our next road trip in three weeks, i hope to make reservations, cuz i dont want to have tita's pupuseria on my mind and come to find out they're closed for christmas vacation!

My good friend Ted and I were driving from Palm Springs to San Francisco today (Sep16, 2010) and wanted to find a place to eat on I-5 that wasn't fast food. Anyone who has driven this stretch of road knows it's pretty much fast food haven but I also knew there were a few gems out there, I just needed to find them. Let me start by saying Yelp really helped, if you type in a city i.e. Bakersfield, a map will pop up with all the restaurants that are rated on Yelp. If you move your cursor north on I-5 you will see every Yelp rated restaurant which is how I found Tita's Pupusaria in the town of Buttonwillow, CA. What I liked about this restaurant was that all the Yelp reviews were fair to great. It's right off of the I-5 on Tracy ave across from the McDonalds; there's also a Tita's truck selling food on Tracy just before the restaurant and there's an address for one on Front st, we never found it, it's about 4miles west from I-5 so unless you have to go that direction don't and just go the one on Tracy ave. All morning long Ted and I were so looking forward to this meal so when we finally found it we were happy. The restaurant was empty, maybe the brekkie crowd left and lunch had yet to arrive? The waitress was very nice, she was Latina, she let me order in Spanish which I always appreciate but her English was perfect. I started with the Pupusa special with the Loroco pupusa, Loroco we were told is a vegetable/flower, this came with beans and rice. We also ordered the Pupusa revuelta which is two pupusas one being with cheese and the other with carnitas and cheese and I ordered Platanos con frijoles y crema (fried plantains with beans and sour cream). They came with a choice of flour or corn tortillas but the corn are "Hecho en mano" (made by hand) YOU MUST have these, there were delicious, definitely not your store bought anemic corn tortillas. So some of you might wonder what a Pupusa is, well, if you are familiar with a Quesadilla this is very similar. A Pupusa is made with cornmeal like for a corn tortilla only thicker and a layer of the filling of your choice is sealed inside then grilled until cooked through. A spiced pickled cabbage called Curtido is served on the side which you put over the Pupusa so you have this nice tangy, crunchy taste from the Cabbage/Curtido and the warm bite of the corn meal and whatever you ordered inside of it. The salsa that came as a side was tasty, not spicy and a bit watery but definitely enhanced our meal. The beans are Pinto and refried and the rice was nice and fluffy. Lets just say our plates were empty, no food was wasted. Tita's was a big hit with us and I will certainly go back the next time I am on I-5 going North or South bound. Muchismas Gracias Tita!

My boyfriend and I discovered this little gem during a road trip pit stop. The pupusas are large and the the loroco is especially delicious. They also were selling $1 carne asada tacos. For what it was, it was perfect. If you don't speak any Spanish, you may have issues (but if you don't speak any Spanish in southern California, you'll be missing out on a lot of things). Note that this review is for the truck, not the restaurant.

We ate in the restaurant . Great food at a great price. I has the chili colorado dinner. Tasted good, but it was pork, not beef. My wife had a tostada, very good as well. Service was good and the total was under $20 with a beer. Only $3.50 for a Dos Equis!

I ate at the truck last night, which was right along Tracy ave in a dirt parking lot just north of the entrance to the 5N. The tacos were incredible - the carnitas was some of the best I've ever had. I'd never had a papusa before, but I definitely will have one again if they're close to as good as what I got from Tita's. Oh yes, and they have Mexican Coke, made with sugar instead of corn syrup. The only drawback was that they park their truck at this little covered eating area in a dirt lot (it's quite a setup) and an RV pulled into the lot and dumped its sewage tank while we were eating, which did not smell nice in the evening central valley heat. I guess it's the price to pay for eating a truck. Damn you inconsiderate RV driver!!!

Pupusas are delicious and service is fine. A great place if you're in the middle of nowhere I-5 and need a place to eat. I really liked the squash pupusas and sweet corn tamales.

Worth trying. Caldo de REs, bean and cheese pupusas and tacos were fantastic. Make sure you squeeze the half lime juice into the soup. Decor and bathrooms are atrocious. I suspect the bucket of cabbage slaw gets passed from table to table. But the food is fantastic. Made with love and absolutely delicious.

Ordered a burrito and a beef soup. The portions are huge and the taste was decent! Some of the lunch entres were pretty expensive as well ($10-$13). Points taken off for a broken toilet.

Hot damn I have a newfound love for Salvadorian food. We got three pupusas -- Loroco, squash, and bean -- and they were amazing. The tamales were great too. All for like $13. If you're nearby, go there!

I never wanted to take I-5 on my way to So-Cal because I thought that there is NOTHING to eat. Well, I decided to ask my fellow yelpers and this is what they recommended. It was great and I am so happy to have found a place to eat off of I-5! I am actually looking forward to my next trip! I don't have to say much more because everyone else has already covered it. Good food off I-5? Not gross Micky D's? Go there. Now.

I love this place. During the summer I work at a lab at Boswell company and I love this place for lunch. I usually take my own lunch because it's more cost effective but when I feel like treating myself, I eat here. I absolutely love their burritos. They are sooooo good. Everyone has pretty much covered this place. It is a great alternative to all the fast food around this stop, like McDonald's and Carl's Jr. The only reason I knocked of one star is because they can be slow at times, very slow. I was almost late for work one day but eh, next time I'll just get there earlier.

Stop at the truck. A hidden gem in the middle of nowhere. The pupusa;s are huge and taste great.

Like everyone else, we stop here for veggie burritos on the drive between Northern California and Los Angeles -- it's the best road food between the Grapevine and the Bay Area, honestly; we only eat the veggie burritos but they are huge, delicious, with wonderful rice and delicious hot sauce. I always have to insist fiercely on HOT sauce, as they look at my white boy face and think I can't handle the spice. But truly, I can...

I never thought I'd look forward to the long drive between San Francisco and San Diego, but I'd almost make the trip just to stop at Tita's along the way. In a wasteland of mediocre food, Tita's is an oasis of deliciousness. On our first visit, we ordered pupusas and fried yucca, and although the wait was long (about 20-30 minutes), it was totally worth it. [Even my grumpy, impatient husband agrees.] The food is very fresh, and all of our food (except the delicious curtido) was made to order. Curtido is one of my favorite things ever, and so when our pupusas came with a big tub of the stuff, I was in heaven. The salsa on the table was watery and simple, but don't be fooled: it was fresh and a delicious, even delicate complement to the rest of the food. The place is bright and everything is clean, and the service is friendly. The owners are especially nice and made us feel very welcome and well cared for. This place is a perfect example of some of the things I love so much about California's international culture: great food, great people.

Coming back from watching the L.A. Marathon my wife and I decided to pull into the Chevron station for gas. I asked the cashier how the food at the taco truck across the street was. She loved it so I decided to take a gander. Tita herself took my order and since I didn't know how much food I would get for my money I decided to order four things....carnitas taco, carnitas pupusa, lengua torta and chicken sope. Big mistake. I'm a big eater and finished everything except for 1/2 torta. This place gets the Robert C "good value" star of approval. You receive a lot of food using good ingredients. I can't recall experiencing better food in the bay area where I live. I had lunch today ( Monday ) there. Tita says it is packed on Friday through Sunday. It was completely empty when I arrived. I sat at a picnic table they have set up under an awning. The taco was small but the lengua was so tender ! I had never had it in Mexican food before. If I'm ever in the neighborhood I'll pay a return visit. There wasn't anything complex about the taste but knowing it was wholesome and filling was alright in my book.

Stopped at Tita's Pupueria Truck for the second time today. WOW. I had 2 cheese and pork Pupusas and a big mound of the best Salvadoran slaw (Curtido) I've ever had. My favorite Salvadoran place in Richmond, Ca closed a few years ago, and while they don't serve Yuca Frita at the truck this stop may not be a destination in itself, it is worth stopping at. The most terrific food on I-5.

Unbelievable food...clean place, nice service, awesome food...what an amazing find along the 5--who would have thought you could get this food over the cruddy fast food joints that are packed with many unknowing travellers...why go to Carl's JR across the street when you can get some of the best food anywhere at this place?? the pupusas are fabulous...special hot sauce + cabbage...yum!! What a treat...we'll be driving more between Northern CA and Southern CA now that we found this place!!

The actual restaurant is on Tracy Ave. and not on Front Street. Perhaps, there used to be a second location at one time, but not now. The bean and cheese pupusas were very tasty. Make sure that you put the cabbage and tangy sauce on top of the pupusas. I ordered the pupusa special that comes with rice and beans. Next time, I would skip the rice and beans and just go for the pupusas because it's a lot of food. My hubby ordered the Salvadorian chicken tamales wrapped in plantain leaves. They were very light and fluffy, but slightly bland overall. This place is a good find, convenient, inexpensive and definitely beats McDonald's!

I go to Tita's almost every chance I get. Especially when I am working and I'm on my way back to the shop, I'll make a stop and get some good Elsalvadorian food. If you have never been there are actually two Tita's one is a taco stop/roach-coach right off the I-5 exit on Buttonwillow, then there is the Tita's that is a nice sit down restaurant. I usually like sitting indoors so at the times the are open. If it is late I will stop at the roach coach since they stay open pretty late. I love their tacos, made fresh when you order and with all the toppings you can add. I'm not very good with Spanish so I use it as an opportunity to practice. When I go to the restaurant, I'll get me a langua (tongue) burrito supreme. Let me first say that it is a huge burrito, so if you are gonna order it, make sure you got the appetite to back it up. I usually ask them to wrap it up for me and place all the sour cream and toppings inside. There aren't that many places to stop and get a really good meal around Buttonwillow and I would say Tita's beats them all.

Drove all night and checked into our lovely Motel 6. We had just eaten before the drive, but a few of us were starting to get hungry again. Everyone tells us that we have to try this taco truck. 3 Asada Quesadillas 2 Asada Tacos $26 Seems a little pricey.. But it was damn good. Thankfully Titas delicious asada overpowers the stench of cow poop in the area. The taco was delicious, the meat tender and salsas were flavorful. The quesadilla is apparently what they are known for.... They were HUGE. Stuffed full of asada and cheese... Really yummy! The ladies were very nice and I cant wait for the next track day so I can go back to Titas!

The first time I saw this truck while driving on I-5 I thought I was dreaming. I love pupusas and im really into food trucks. HEAVEN! The pork and cheese pupusas were really good. The size if these things are larger than normal, the mixture of pork and cheese is perfect and the cheese oozes out of the pupusa nicely. Just wish the curtido wad marinated a little longer. The only down side is the price. A bit expensive for pupusas, but worth it. Now I'll be looking forward to Tita's anytime I have to drive to Nor Cal.

Between the lady answering the phone with "buenos dias" and what looked like a Latin Big Brother on TV - this place is definitely more authentic than most.. Raves about the cheese & pork pupusa made us order it - but I thought it was a bit lackluster.. Not a fan of the tortilla and couldn't really find any pork.. Am I missing something here? The quesadilla and al pastor burrito were excellent though! Packed, delicious flavors popped out, and tasted fresh! Not at all like your usual fake/Americanized Mexican food.. To top it all off: hands down the best jamaica I've ever had! Admittedly, the "culture" can be overbearing.. But if you could get over being a bit uncomfortable, then the food will surely justify all feelings of alienation!

Fresh pupusa's on the way to and from SoCal. Was on the way to make a stop to break up the drive to SoCal when the fam and I stopped into Mickey-D's for the kids. My sis-in-law noticed Tita's across the street, so I decided to check it out on my iPhone Yelp App. To my surprise, this little hole in the wall on a rest stop in Buttonwillow had some pretty decent ratings. Long story short, we ended up trying it on the drive back to NorCal, and it didn't dissapoint. It's a no frills restaurant/ taqueria, but they take their time to make each individual pupusa from scratch in 10 minutes. My sis-in-law snuck a peek into the kitchen, and witnessed them rolling out the masa and adding the pork and cheese before topping them off and grilling them up... Not bad for $5-ish for 2 pupusa's with pickled cabbage and salsa. Would be 2.5 stars, but they get 3 for making the pupusa's fresh to order. Might stop in again if we are driving down to SoCal again.

In terms of good places to eat on the long drive from NorCal down to SoCal, it's a barren wasteland. Imagine the joy I felt when I discovered that there was potentially a delightful restaurant conveniently located off the I-5S, where I could get mouth-wateringly delicious pupusas. ...And the pupusas were pretty good. We ordered some al pastor tacos, rice and beans to go with the pupusas, and those offerings were just okay. Not sure if it was what we ordered or if the rest of the menu was equally mediocre, but I was not as wow-ed as I was praying I would be. I'll be back if I'm ever craving pupusas on the drive up and down California, but I think In'N'Out could just as easily hit the spot.

They have a massive selection of legitimately delicious food, and mercifully, air conditioning. Which was great, especially since we spent an ungodly amount of time waiting for lunch. Delicious food, but I gotta dock stars for the wait.

Buttonwillow. Ever heard of it? Me neither. However, the paucity of dining options is quite pathetic along Highway 5 between the 580 cut-off in the north to the point where you suddenly recognize you're getting close to LA. As everyone knows, the usual suspects are Split Pea Andersen's where the girth doesn't meet the mirth, Harris Ranch where you can smell the cows before you eat them, and In-N-Out where a two-hour wait in the middle of nowhere is like watching a TLC reality show without a bathroom break. I read about Tita's in a Triple-A article I found on the web about the best places to eat on Highway 5. It was a very short list, but the writer recommended Tita's, and we like pupusas, so... Buttonwillow is a little over two hours outside of LA if you're not stuck in traffic, a big 'if' down there. Anyway, when we stopped to get gas, we got confused as to where the real brick-and-mortar Tita's was since the address led us to their food truck in a desolate parking lot next to a motel (photo: bit.ly/1Vdhvtn ). I'm not sure if the woman was Tita herself, but she and her cohort appeared pretty settled in the spot since they had picnic tables set up shielded from the blistering sun by a large corrugated awning shaped like an army tent (photo: bit.ly/1CNutaX ). I was surprised to see Menudo on the menu, and judging from a customer slurping nearby, it was a decent-size bowl for $8.75. But I got nervous about the road trip and passed on it. Jamie W. and I both went for the $3.50 Pupusa. I went for the Loroco y Queso (Flower Herb & Cheese), ladled on the tomatillo salsa from the little bin on the side of the truck, and scooped up some curtido (photo: bit.ly/1LgYVxp ). That pupusa was not going down my belly alone, so I ordered a pair of Lengua Tacos for $3 each. Pretty tasty with the frijoles, chopped onions and the tomatillo salsa, though the warmed jalapeno peppers kicked me like a burro in love (photo: bit.ly/1DmwpSV ). Spending ten bucks for that amount of food was a good deal, and we were certainly in-n-out (pardon the pun) a lot faster than any of the options I listed above. It's good to know I don't have to inhale a cow or spew out some split pea soup in order to sustain myself on that long journey home. FOOD - 3 stars...home-style Mexican fast food works in a pinch AMBIANCE - 3 stars...well, it was nice to have the shade...tin roof, rusted! SERVICE - 3 stars...come and get it! TOTAL - 3 stars...finally a place to eat on Hwy 5 that isn't a major time investment

On a long drive along I5 there are few things that make me stop: Gas, restroom breaks, and now pupusas. Originally just a food truck right off the freeway in a truck stop area, they now have a full restaurant open in the same area. We decided this time to get food at the restaurant. The truck is literally right next to the onramp. We ordered a couple different types of pupusas and tacos. The pupusa revuelta was sooo good. Melted cheese and pork with a slight crispy tortilla - Definitely a must get. The shocking part was the pupusas were still warm after a few hours! We also got carne asada and carnitas tacos which was pretty good. And finally we ordered some rolled tacos. You haven't had rolled tacos until you've had them here. No Lie, the best rolled tacos i've ever had. After that small sampling, I'm sure you will not be disappointed with whatever you pick. Overall a great place to eat and now is going to be a mandatory stop to and from SoCal.

When you're driving up and down the 5, big billboards of pizza hut, subway, mcdonalds etc are being thrown at you at every corner. It can be very difficult to get a quality meal while on the road. However at the Buttonwillow travel stop, Tita's will supply a quality lunch. First the food, the reason this review is so high. We ordered a carnitas burrito, 2 red chicken enchiladas, and a cheese pupusa as we heard this is a MUST buy. My husband loved his carnitas burrito. I inhaled my enchiladas. I could definitely tell they were homemade and were just assembled. The chicken chunks haven't been sitting for awhile. The cheese pupusa.... oh man a must order. The cheese was high quality and fresh. Everything about it was delicious. They're lucky that the food is so good, because the service left something to be desired. First, they offer a drive through, but their full menu isn't on the board. I pulled up their website to see a more thorough menu. When we asked about the options, they confirmed that they had them. Why they weren't on the menu is beyond me. Second, the drive through can use some help. There's a sign to honk for service, but we weren't sure if they heard us due to the wait time. We didn't go inside. So, I'm not sure what the restroom situation is like inside, but it might not be ideal since a woman found the need to exit the restaurant to change the diapers of her kids (multiple) right in front of us while we were waiting for our food. Talk about an appetite killer.

If you are willing to make the ~20min drive from Bakersfield you should definitely give this place a try. When my group came there was only one other group seated. Located off the I-5, you'd think it would be busy but people wouldn't expect to come. The service was good. We got seated and had our waters pretty quickly. There's a lot to choose from on their menu, especially since a good majority is under $10! We all settled for simple items: Carne Asada Tacos Carne Asada Burrito Mojado (Wet Burrito) Al Pastor Burrito We were given chips and salsa. The salsa had an even amount of heat, wasn't over powering. My friend thought it was a "slow burn." Our food was great. The burritos were big, taking over the entire size of the plate and were nicely stuffed. I had to take half of it home, which says a lot since I normally always finish there. The tacos were tacos, it's hard to mess those up. Coming back to try the pupusas next time!

After passing Bakersfield from Las Vegas to the I-5, we arrived at this small town for gas. Then knowing there wouldn't be many decent restaurants along the way back to SF Bay Area, we found this place which was the only top rated place around for miles. You must stop here to eat!! It would be the best decision you make on your long drive through this boring highway. You can order the Shrimp Enchilada's like I did, which was excellent. The tomato sauce had to be fresh or it wouldn't taste like it did. And the salsa and the chips were delicious and spicy. The only thing was that the dish was so big I couldn't finish it. But I guess for some people, it's not a bad thing.

With the limited grub selection on the road, and rather than go to all those cookie cutter fast food chains, I definitely recommend stopping by Tita's for a nice quality bite. I frequent the NorCal - SoCal commute and Tita's is always a good waypoint to pull over for a pit stop, stretch out your muscles, and get a good bite. This quaint restaurant is nestled in the little town of Buttonwillow right off the 5. They start you off with their house pickled cabbage type salad, house sauce and salsa w/ chips! Salsa there definitely packs a nice spicy punch. The house cabbage is like a pickled salad with some chili. Kind of like a Salvadoran style kimchi :P. Their house sauce is absolutely awesome when accompanied with their pupusas. Nice subtle taste that puts their food on the next level. Their name to fame, as expected are their pupusas, a delectable Salvadoran treat! All handmade with a nice thick corn tortilla stuffed with all sorts of yummy treats inside. Choose your protein from carne asada to shrimp, they will have something to tantalize your taste buds. We always order up a couple to share, and feel free to mix and match your selection. Their tortas and ceviche are great as well! Quite fresh especially for being so far away from the ocean! Great balance of herbs and acidity. We also usually chose one of their plates to order. We tried their whole fried fish. Nice golden crisp skin with a moist juicy core. It was a bite of fresh air compared to all the surrounding franchised fast food chains. Great place for a pit stop. I will definitely be back for more next time I make the drive!

The reviews looked good for this stop along the 5 and I wanted something besides fast food. I stopped in at 3pm on a Wednesday. There were 2 other people dining so I figured it would be quick. I placed my order for one bean and cheese pupusa and one pork pupusa, based on some of the reviews here for a grand total of $7.50. I then waited 15 minutes while they cooked them up so they were nice and fresh. Got them to go and headed back out on the road for the remaining 5 hours of my drive. I didn't check the box before I left - big mistake. Turned out I received 2 bean and cheese pupusas. The salsa was in a little baggie, tied up like it was a bag of crack. This is not conducive to snacking on while driving, so I didn't get to use the salsa at all. The bean and cheese pupusa had no flavor. It was greasy and gooey, but no flavor. SO wanted to love this place. I doubt I'll give it another try since they messed up my order when there was no rush at all.

Confusing: the Restaurant and The truck are 489 ft apart.. But you won't know it unless you drive past the Truck. The truck has a limited menu and NO restrooms. I would think that everybody would want to use the restroom out here in the middle of nowhere. The restaurant has a drive-through, yet when we went inside they told us food would take about 15 minutes. ??? Plates are $12-16

Get the pork taco and chile verde taco! We like the pupusas too but the tacos are some salty oily fatty crunchy goodness. Arancia and pineapple agua frescas drinks are tasty and refreshing too. Don't be fooled by the run down pit stop and exterior. This discovery makes the drive through the long haul less torturous, although beware of the ensuing instant food coma.

After driving for several hours on the 5 and having the same junk food options in passing-- Wendy's, McDonald's and Jack in the Box and gas station snack food... Sometimes you want to turn and find a diamond in the rough and that's exactly this truck spot! They are a fusion spot, predominantly serving Mexican, El Salvadoran and American food. I tried two tasty papusas, the cheese and squash, as well as the bean and cheese. They were made to order and came with a side of Latino slaw and salsa. In addition, they had lots of the fixings so that you can dress them to taste. The squash and cheese papusa was good, but didn't have enough squash for my liking. Oh, it's green squash, b. t. w. The bean and cheese was a great texture, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The red salsa it comes with isn't too spicy, but if you're looking for a better kick, add some red salsa from the fixing area. They even have green, roasted peppers and beans on the side for you. The entire staff is friendly! The owner came out just to talk to us. They've been in the papusa business for 20 years and are very proud of their food. I spoke Spanish to the workers, so if you can, exercise it. Another eating tip: If you hate flies, be careful, the outdoor seating and heat attract flies that are quick. Be swift when protecting your tasty papusas. I'm usually hesitant when eating at food trucks, but they treat their food with care and make everything there, so I would actually give them a 4.5 if I could. Avoid the usual junk food stop and come to Tita's Papusaria instead!

Great food in the middle of nowhere. It's actually a sit down restaurant but has a drive thru and take away. Slow getting your food as everything is homemade. Prices are from $10-18 for a dinner plate but you can order a la carte. First time trying a El Salvadoran dish and really liked it!!!!

This place was the perfect snack stop during our drive down to LA. My pork and cheese pupusa was delicious, and my husband loved his chicken taco (the meat was flavorful and well-marinated). The spicy pickled cabbage salad that came with the pupusa was also tasty! The drive-thru option was helpful.

Wow, this place is rad. I wish it wasn't in the middle of nowhere, but if you are driving up or down through CA, stop here if you get a chance. I tried a pork and cheese pupusa, and three tacos: carne asada, lengua and al pastor. I made liberal use of the cabbage stuff and hot sauces. So, so good.

Totally random but totally delicious...I didn't want to go a fast food chain, so I looked for something different on Yelp as we were passing through. I didn't realize it was going to be just a food truck with a covered picnic table area. We had the carnitas tacos and carne asada tacos and they were delicious! I'd definitely go here again!

2 words....worth it! I drove through with my husband and we waited about 10-15 minutes. I figured it was because they made it to order. It was true cause our pupusas were piping hot and delicious. The cortido was quite good too. The service was great and now when we travel through, we make a mandatory pit stop. It's worth the extra stop, I recommend it. Next to try is the truck!

Delicious and affordable. Great alternative to all the fast food in the area. The missing star is due to the lack of "fast" in their food... if you're going to eat here, don't take it to go like we did. Burrito chicken supreme was delicious, with whole avocado in it to boot.

I have been on an eternal search for the best pupusas in the United States and I can't believe I've found it on the side of the road on my way to San Francisco! Get the revuelta (pork and cheese) I also love lorroco (a central american flower herb) and cheese. These pupusas seemed expensive at first (I believe they are $3.80 each) but they are triple the size of pupusas I had in central america. These are absolutely incredible; fresh masa, crispy exterior and when the cheese oozes out, you get a nice crunchy toasted cheese-chip. AH! I cannot wait to drive back to San Francisco again! Also, they had a fantastic salsa bar, with your typical roasted Mexican jalepenos and grilled onions (also all you can eat beans!). They had a fantastic avocado salsa as well (similar to the Venezualan one called 'guasacaca'). I think their salsas could have been spicier, but that's just me... and I'm pretty sure 99% of the population would disagree. Purely excellent. Just note, its not the fanciest of places, it is a truck that has wooden bench seatings (that are shaded by a tin roof, it is all open air - as there are no walls) but I don't think there is such thing as a fancy amazing pupusa place.. tita's pupuseria is purely about the food (which is all that matters!)

  • Laurie H.

Everyone knows there are very few options on this stretch of I-5. But this is a decent alternative. Plus you can get breakfast all day (I think). Had a pupusa last year but this year stuck with the breakfast items and was more than happy with eggs and hash browns.

Very briefly- I'll write an extended review later- the food is better than average (better than expected for Buttonwillow), and nicely priced, but the customer service sensibilities really need a LOT of help. The various other reviewers complaints about slow service or imperfect hygiene are on the mark. On the plus side, if you have the TIME, the food is good and served in generous portions. Considering the location (Buttonwillow), you can do a LOT worse. If you need it fast, then go get fast food.

Dear Future Hazel, This review is only intended as a reminder not to stop here next time you're driving to the bay area. You forget every single time. All you have on your mind is pupusas, yet you forget that it takes approximately 7 1/2 years for your order to get to your table. And you forget that the waitress will never come and tell you what's going on. And you forget that it's pretty damn expensive for a little pupuseria/diner like this. And you forget that you'll leave grouchy because none of it was worth the time or money in the first place and you weren't even that hungry and you could have just gone to stupid McDonald's across the street and been in San Jose by now. Consider this your reminder. And if you simply MUST have some pupusas, stop off at the food truck to shave a bit of time off your order and skip the restaurant. Sincerely, Past Hazel

Delicious food but a horrible waitresses. Been here 3 times now for the food but putting up with the service is such a pain. The location is really convenient being right off the freeway and it is definitely at least the second best place to eat in all of button willow. If you do not mind a long wait and poor customer service in order to get very good quality Mexican food, then this place will more than fit your needs. I LOVE the food, I mean, I really love it. I am just not sure I can put up with the workers there any more.. I guess all good things come with a price, and since I keep going back.. it must be worth. I do leave with a smile on my face and a satisfied tummy every time. :)

  • Simon C.

Those are some delicious pupusas. And the bucket of cabbage was good. The salsa is delicious. I am a happy customer. The negatives include a long wait for food even though the restaurant was completely empty. The asada taco was pretty cold and dry so I won't be getting that again. Just stick to the foods this place is known for and you won't he disappointed. I'll probably stop by again on the way back down to la.

We drive between San Diego and San Francisco a couple of times a year, and this place is exactly halfway. We always stop here, because the food is fantastic. Admittedly, this review is based on a fairly limited experience of their menu, because my wife and I always get the same thing when we stop here: a selection of pupusas, fried yuca, and plantains with crema. We absolutely love all this stuff, and the pupusas are among the best we've had anywhere. One of the things that makes the pupusas so great is that they are made to order, rather than pre-cooked and then just warmed up as needed. Making them to order takes a little longer, of course, so this is not a place to stop if you want to be in and out in five or ten minutes. Even when it's not busy, the food can take a little while to arrive, but it's always worth it. Rather than just give you a bit of curtido (a cabbage and carrot slaw in a vinegar dressing) on the side of the plate, they put a little bucket of it on the table so you can have as much as you want. It's excellent stuff, and goes great with the pupusas and the yuca. This place is an oasis in the wasteland of I-5 freeway rest stops. I always feel sorry for the people pulling into the McDonald's across the street; they don't know what they're missing.

Overall decent food. Pupusas are huge. The cheese one was very cheesy. The one with cheese and pork had some strange concoction cheese and almost paste like substance. No pork that I could see. I also tried their rice drink and it was so full of cinnamon that none of us could drink it. Also, had to ask the waitress to turn the porn of tv. My teenagers got quite an eyeful.

Great food! In fact I don't think I have ever had better Carne Asada. Prices were expected. $15 for my dinner. We're I was extremely disappointed was the level of service. The two waitresses seemed rude and gave the impression that they did not want to be there. Overall, this is a 5 star quality of food with 2 star service. A must stop if you are traveling Highway 5

This place was blow my mind delicious. In the middle of nowhere. It was hot out. But the elaborate fixins bar (w grilled onions, beans, and amazing salsas) and the HUGE yummy pupusa was a day-maker.

"Umm, why didn't we just order 5 of these things?" Those were the first words out of the man's mouth as soon as he took his first (ever) bite of a pupusa. DELICIOUS! We ordered one to share (bean and cheese) and then ordered the chicken flautas (or were they taquitos?) for him and a carnitas burrito for me. Seriously. Tita needs to branch out and open a spot in Sunnyvale. This was likely one of the best meals I've had in a taqueria. This place is located in Buttonwillow which is one of the many pit stops along I-5. I'd usually stick to places like Subway or McDonalds for a quick bite during the drive, but with the help of Yelp, I discovered Tita's. They have a food truck right on the corner as you get off I-5, but slightly down the road, they have an actual sit down restaurant. I'm already trying to plan my next trip down that way just so I can stop at Tita's!

Ok so now I'm all confused, I couldn't find the Tita's Pupuseria (for the taco truck), next to taste of India, so I looked around and this address is the closest location. I think everyone is confused and leaving yelps on the wrong ones. I'm guessing this is the thread for the taco truck, and Tita's Pupuseria Restaurant is for the restaurant (uhhm...right?) Anyways, we were passing through, driving back from Nor cal, so a week of binge eating and Christmas celebrations and mountains of baked goodies. Of course, I had already eaten breakfast at 11am, In-n-out at 12:30p, and then at 3p was again hungry for.... something. The drive down wasn't too bad, but the taco truck provided a nice break from long languor inducing drives down the straight I-5. Hello taco truck, you look so delicious, are you a mirage on the long strip of nothing that is I-5? Chorizo taco. All the stinkin' way. Tumbleweed blowin on by.

This latest trip down the 5 - we ate at the actual truck. Papusas were large and freshly made as you could see into the truck and watch the lady with the skills work the dough. Curtido still wasn't the best but wasn't bad either. My favorite option along the 5!

This review is for the restaurant: If you happen to find yourself in Buttonwillow (...) then you'll notice that restaurants (and pretty much everything else) are few and far between. That being said, Tita's is a solid choice of a restaurant among the limited choices. To sum up the place: Solid quality food at a casual sit-down restaurant. I split a shrimp burrito and nachos and both were good. If I'm in that neck of the woods again, I'll probably go here again over other establishments.

THE FOOD is 4 star but the place gets 5 because it is an oasis of really good food in a disgusting lineup of chain fast food restaurants at the Exit off the 5 for Bakersfield. The food is also great!! awesome and so much better than the poison crap that surrounds it. Go here !

Food is good but service is slow and food is overpriced. Portion size is used to justify this. Cheapest breakfast is 8.99 for two eggs, delicious beans snd tortillas add horrible undrinkable coffee and tip and it is 13.0 out the door for one person. The mexican food is fastet and cheaper than the salvadorean that just takes forever Even the eggs and beans took over twenty minutes. I probably won't be going back anytime soon as it is somewhat frustrating timewise and the prices are simply not good value.

This is a perfect example of a classic yelp dilemma: do you review places on an absolute scale, or take into consideration the context? This place unfortunately is not a wonderful restaurant, but given the alternatives on 5 it's pretty fantastic (read: everything else sucks on 5). I ordered two pupusa's -- one cheese, and one cheese and squash. Unfortunately the cheese & squash one came out and was actually filled with pork. The waitress apologized and fixed it -- but still. One of the best parts of eating a pupusa is the curtido you put on top. Their curtido was not that good at all. It didn't seem very fresh, and it wasn't nearly as sour as I like it. The pupusa itself was quite good, and quite large. Basically you can summarize this place as follows: - adequate food - *cheap* prices ($2.75 per pupusa, and they're fairly large) - no decent alternatives when traveling 5

Had pupusa, flautas, tacos and a cheese burger for my boy. Yeah we ordered Mexican food in a Salvadorian restaurant, but since they offer them and the food probably overlap anyway, so whatever. Overall the food were pretty damn good. Chips and salsa were yummy although they charge you if you ask for more. No biggie. The tacos were about as good as the taqueria in East LA, Boyle Heights, Santa Ana. But then, how hard is it to make good tacos? Flautas was yum. The cheese burger was kind of sad. But who the hell orders cheese burger in a Mex.... Salvadorian restaurant. My son is such a booger anyway so he deserves a sad cheese burger from a Salvadorian restaurant. Good job kiddo, when you grow up, please order New York steak at Scott's Seafood and prawns at Flemings. Will definitely eat here again next time heading up to Northern Cal... if we have an hour and a half to kill.

Um, yum. Amazing pupusas - we had the revueltas. The enchilada rojas were also delicious. Service was slow, but the food was worth the wait. So worth it, in fact, that we came back the next morning and had pupusas for breakfast!

SO I stopped at one of the trucks here with my youth delegation here about a week ago, and let me start off by saying this place has some amazingly good and authentic mexican food. The quesadillas are so good alone that I would drive 200 miles just to get them and come back, let's not even get started with their mega burrito. Let me just say if you ever stop by buttonwillow, CA. You would be crazy to go to the McDonalds or Carl's Jr. next door. Just saying...basically if you eat here you'll be in a food coma the rest of the day. They include everything you need for the best mexican feast fo your life right in the bag and they have that authentic coke straight out of Mexico and AHH it's just too good! It only goes to show that you should Yelp everything because serious Yelpers take serious advice. This place is Pupuseria heaven!

On our way back to the Bay Area from Vegas, I yelped "mexican food" on my phone app and tina's popped up. i didn't read the full reviews, just saw the 4-star rating and new we needed to go there. At first I was kinda skeptical about this place because it looked like an old taco-bell turned into a restaurant. We walked in, not knowing whether or not we should order at the counter or sit at a table and ended up ordering at the counter and seating ourselves. Despite the confusion and the super authentico menu, we were able to successfully order. OH MY GAWD this place is unbelievably GOOOOOOD. This was my first time having pupusas and WOW the cabbage is amazing (they give you a small bucket full) and the sauce is tasty with just the right amount of spice. I didn't end up eating my entire meal because they are so generous with their portions - I had 1 pupusa leftover plus some rice and beans. The tortillas are HAND MADE - you can't beat that! This place is a diamond in the rough - don't judge a book by it's cover. The service was okay but the food is AMAZING! We didn't experience a super long wait time like other people have experienced but if I did, I wouldn't have minded because it's definitely worth the wait. If you have a little time to kill and want some authentic El Salvadorian & Mexican food ... Tina's Pupuseria is a MUST STOP!

Best reviewed place in the area along I-5 on our way north. Clean. Friendly. Good, average taco shop food. A bit expensive, but very convenient location.

Given this place is literally in the middle of nowhere, I wasn't expecting much in the way of a culinary treat. Always glad to be wrong in a situation like this, I ordered a pupusas having no idea what it was . The lady spoke no English but from a short game of charades it seemed like some sort of bread with the fillings of your choice. I went for the cheese and beans which was great but now wish I would have gotten the pork. Had a pork taco and it was delicious. DO pull off at Buttonwillow to get a great, fast and inexpensive bite!

  • Aishling R.

Word to the wise: don't order in spanish if you don't speak spanish. Trust. I thought I was ordering a papusa and a shrimp tostada. What was served to me was a shrimp tostada and a plate of fried plantains, sour cream and beans. Tostada was good, but not the best I've had. The fried plantains were a hidden gem! So tasty! So this place is a tad overpriced, and rightfully so as it is the only truly decent place to eat off of the 5 before you hit the grapevine. Free chips and salsa. Keep in mind that this place is not a typical Mexican restaurant. It is Salvadorean and Mexican so some of the dishes have more of a Salvadorean twist. Boyfriend discovered this when his lengua was a bit different than he is used to. So just be warned.

This review is for the food truck, but I can imagine the food is equally good or even better at their restaurant. Best place to stop for a snack or dinner on I-5 on the way to NorCal. Had a pork/cheese pupusa, and calabaza pupusa. Both were delicious although the pork one was more flavorful. Another person in my party had the chicken burrito - looked great (rice, beans, lettuce, chicken). Fast, friendly service, cute outdoor seating area with music playing on the boombox. They also serve Mexican coca-cola.

I'm writing this for the Tita's Pupuseria taco truck. I'm thinking I missed out by not noticing the actual restaurant until afterwards. Regardless, this truck is l.e.g.i.t. A little more awesome than other taco trucks, this one also sells pupusa's. The prices were only slightly, say, .50 cents higher than other trucks I've visited. But big deal. .50 cents. The carnita's tacos were the best carnitas, probably ever. Some random dude that was in line behind me even informed me that this was the best Taco Truck he's ever encountered, and he stops every time he drives back and forth from the Bay to LA. I believe him. So they just serve you the meat on the tortilla, and all the garnish, i.e. onions, cilantro, grilled onions, and grilled jalapeno, are all off to the side for you to put on yourself. No problem there. And for whatever reason this was the best taco truck salsa I've ever had too. Mixed with the carnita's, it was just what I needed in the middle of my 7 hour drive home. As for Buttonwillow, CA.... I can now put them on the map.

I use Yelp a lot, but seldom post my own reviews. This place is worth it, though. On the long drive from San Diego to the Bay Area, we get to Buttonwillow just about lunch time. Eating at fast food places pales in comparison to having an interesting, tasty lunch. Salvadoran food is new to me, but, oh, yum! Based on Yelp reviews, we had the pork and cheese pupusas and carnitas tacos. Both were wonderful! This place is going to be our lunch place between our house and our daughter's house from now on!

We were heading home on Mon 3/17/08 and wanted to go somewhere to eat dinner. Our plan was to eat at In-N-Out in Kettlemen City, but I saw the sign that said Pupusas, Ice-Cream. I'm so there. So we got off I-5 and found Tita's which is on the Left side. It's a restaurant, but you can also get to-go. We decided to eat there. FREE chips & salsa. I didn't try the chips, salsa to me was kinda blah. I picked pupusa revuelta (cheese & pork) which is a Salvadorean specialty. It was ok, though didn't taste or see any pork. It was kinda burnt on the side which I don't appreciate so made my friend take it. Also comes with a huge tub of cortida (Salvadorean coleslaw) and a mild tomato like sauce. I also got a lengua taco which was fine. Nothing special. Friend also got a pupusa-a squash & cheese one he liked better than mine. I found it fine. He picked carne asada taco I think and he liked it. Our total was $9.75 or so before tip. Service is Slow though. Don't eat here if you're in a hurry.

Four stars for the pupusas alone! Restaurant was clean, flat screen tv playing sports (no porn like someone else said, lol), friendly waitress, good chips (the thick & really crunchy kind that I like) and salsa. After reading a reviews saying the bathroom wasn't all that great, I prepared myself by going across the street at the travel center/gas station. Good thing bc when the hubby went to wash his hands, he confirmed my decision to go before heading to the restaurant, haha. After reading someone else's post about the pupusas being small, we ordered one each (beans & cheese) as well as nachos and shrimp tacos. The pupusas were a good size and really tasty! I was full after eating almost the whole basket of chips and my pupusa... The shrimp in the tacos were super salty and the nachos barely got touched cuz we were so full, but they were just ehhh. Definitely will be back during another long drive... for the pupusas only!

Just say yes. This is ideal if you are driving the Bay Area to SoCal or vice versa trip. The freshness, tastiness, and newness of the food make it a fun stop and a great meal. The Price is right and if you have kids, they will remember going here for years.

If for some reason you don't want In N Out, this is the place to stop for dinner between Vegas and the Bay. Delicious pupusas. Really slow service though. I can't imagine how they deal with people coming through the drive thru.

The food was good and the servers were very friendly. My friend and i split two pupusas (one carnitas and one squash), 2 carnitas tacos, and an order of fries and we were very satisfied. Our total only came out to be $13! I loved the carnitas pupusa, it was really flavorful. She liked the squash one because you can taste the cheese better. The carnitas tacos were also reallllly good. Our only complaint: our food took a while to come out, but we ate it so fast that we didnt even lose that much time!

  • Jaime R.

Absolutely delicious! In a sea of monotonous I5 chains, this restaurant has identity and authenticity. Papusas are excellent and the "california mexican" (burritos, etc.) are quite delicious. Consider having breakfast here: whether you want an american breakfast or you want to try Salvadoreño plátanos fritos, you cannot go wrong. Also very good coffee!

Excellence. Get the Pork and cheese. This place is now a permanent stop whenever I make the trek up to Norcal.

YUM! Freshly made tortillas! All delicious, really hit the spot! Seasoned just right. Will plan my road trip to stop here the next time I am traveling through the area. Well worth driving a little further for, or eating earlier or later than planned. Much, much better food than the surrounding restaurants, for several hundred miles. Coffee was very good, and there were some good desert options and fruit drink options. Tasty scents coming from the kitchen. This place made me feel right at home.

I read all these reviews so I had high expectations for the pupusas (my first ones ever) and I found the dish to be okay. It didn't help that I had to waive my waitress down for everything like a seat, a napkin, to order, the bill... hence the -stars. I did however like the lengua tacos but everything else was so-so.

I bought land in San Luis Obispo County (sight-unseen) in a place called California Valley...a stupid move that I thought I would regret forever. Then on the way down to it, I discovered Tita's Pupuseria...ahhhh, a salvadorian oasis in the middle of the desert. This place more than made up for the bad land investment. Now I make a stop here just about every time I go to my land (not very often) or so-cal (a bit more frequently). Everything on the menu is awesome. Try all the pupusa that they offer. I usually pick up a stack of some lorico (sp?) and the pork and cheese stuffed ones. These are the bomb! You don't know me, but you gotta trust me on this. I ask for an extra heap of the pickled cabbage cause I can eat a bowl of that stuff all by itself. They also have great breakfasts. The usual mexican restaurant breakfast plates but in huge portions. Get the corn torillias with your breakfast. They are hand made by a fat girl, so you know they are good. Saturday nights they would bbq out in the parking lot and the tacos are super good and super cheap. If you are on the 5 around that time, stop in, get yourself a few beers and a couple of tacos and get back to driving. You car is not the only thing that need refueling about halfway from LA to the Bay. Enjoy.

I don't know what led us deep into the heart of the oasis that is Buttonwillow. Maybe it was the incongruous signs for the Indian Buffet just 90 minutes outside of Los Angeles (or 5 hours from home). I mean really- Indian buffet 5 hours from home? Either way, as we determined that Starbucks or Taco Bell wasn't going to do it for us- we found Tita's. Tita's is a classic tacqueria- except they also happen to have amazing Pupusa's. On many subsequent visits, we enjoyed the Pupusas con frijoles as well as the pupusas con loroco, or just the plan pupusas con queso. They were all excellent pupusas, and a great change from the typical tacqueria food. The kids enjoyed their bean and cheese burritors and quesadillas- and I also tried the fish tacos which were generally very good. If only they used cabbage instead of lettuce... The best part, though, especially given the location, are the aguas frescas. On different visits they always had Watermelon and pineapple. At other times they had tamarindo and some other flavors I don't recall. Also- the horchata was awesome. It's a great find- and since if you're passing through on the way to LA- or back to SF- it's nice to have a destination to look forward to.

On the drive from LA to San Francisco, there seem to be nothing but chain-food garbage or chain-food burgers, or both. Sometimes, you don't want that particular variety of grease, so you need an alternative. Enter Tita's Pupuseria. Nice and air conditioned. Friendly Hispanic service. Light, crispy tortilla chips with a rockin' spicy salsa. Fresh and tasty Pupusas -- authentic, soft and gooey on the inside, tender on the outside. Excellent, tangy slaw. Wash it down with a Mexican bottled Coke or an Auga Fresca (Melon, fantastic) and you are well, well better off than the McD's across the street!

An interesting experience. Stopped here on the way up to San Francisco and was satisfied. It is a mobile truck so I tempered my expectations, as their dinning area is a make shift covered area in a dirt lot, with random tables. The food was amazing. The clientele were mostly local farm workers, some of which were friendly enough to explain some of the menu items to me. A tad on the greasy side, but understandable for where I was. Worth a visit if you make the trip from LA/SD to SF often.

I have eaten at both Tita's truck and the restaurant a few doors down. If you're on a hurry, the truck is delicious and a good way to go - tasty tacos, burritos and pupusas served al fresco. Just across from the Arco. A few hundred feet down the street is the restaurant whichs offers air conditioning, waitress service and a few delicious items not available at the truck. My wife had a shrimp tostada that was just perfect, as well as a cheese and squash pupus. She is picky and she loved these both. I liked my pupusas, but not the Al Pastor pork so much. Next time I'll try carne asada or carnitas. This is a good break from our usual highway 5 fare, In and Out Burger. Which is fine, but nothing out of the ordinary.

For over 15 years I've driven up and down the 5 freeway between Monterey and LA and had often seen the sign for Tita's Pupusas along the freeway. I always poo pooed it because, well, it's Buttonwillow! It took a flat tire to make me stop and consider Tita's. I'm so glad I did! Excellent pupusas the size of pancakes! The plantains, beans and cream were perfect, and holy crap, they have fresh arrayan frescos! This is my new guilty pleasure and it is now a must on my drives to and fro. I still love my mother's pupusas but I will be thinking of Tita's. Shame on me.

I have eaten here twice over the past 5 years--the quality of their pupusa has not declined. They are fantastic!!. Ordered 3 different ones: cheese&bean, cheese and lorca and cheese&pork. Now these pupusas take time to make, so do not order unless you are willing to wait. Take the hispanic kim chee, cover your pupusa, then drench in the red sauce from the squirt bottle. AAHHhhh...heaven. No match in LA that I have found.

Eggs n Chorizo $7.99 without the grease float, Cinnamon overtones; the teens were skeptical. One bite and two of the fresh made corn tortillas sold (comes w 3)! Hubby - he awarded the 5* huevos rancheros $8.25: Sunny up Eggs were perfectly cooked, smothered with a cooked, soupier salsa that was outstanding. Tried one much hailed pupusa (virgin foodie Oregonians): pork & cheese $2.75 and a lightly pickled cabbage like a fresh Salvadoran kimchee, all spoke the same loving language. Pope Benedict mass greeted us on our I5 trek to Fullerton on a slow Sunday. Food took 20 mins accounting for the love and joy of the cook. Don't expect the in & out timeline :) however our Out was much sunnier for the welcome breakfast stop. See you again Tita's! For the seniors you'll save about $2 on above. Large Menu included machacha, burritos, tacos, hamburgers $5-6, steaks shrimp $$ @ 16 range, Kids menu and bottled beers.

We wanted something other than typical fast food. This Salvadoran place in an old hamburger joint serves fantastic food. The fried plantains sweet and when combined with savory pupusa offers a wonderful complement. Being vegetarians, we ordered the pupusa con queso y loroco. The accompanying slaw has some oregano which flavors the whole dish. Great spot to stop en route between SoCal and NorCal. really fun. Really full when we departed.

  • Victoria L.

Although our food arrived quickly, we did notice that another couple left probably because their food was taking so long. I guess that means it really depends on what you're getting. The al pastor tacos were tasty but a bit oily. The squash pupusa was tasty. All in all the meal was good. A caution, however, because this restaurant is on the side of a freeway, you will sit next to people from all walks of life.

This review serves as a warning never to go here. I went here on the way home from grad night and went in with high expectations. However what i did not expect was getting yelled at by my waitress, waiting 45 minutes for 2 tacos, and then to be given the 1 beef taco and expected not to complain and just kind of settle for something I did not order. If i could give this place 0 stars i would. Not a good road trip stop.

A must stop spot on I-5 near the Grapevine. Some of the best pupusas I've had. So fresh and you get a BUCKET of cabbage/slaw/whatever they call it. Not like some of those places that give you a little bit on the top...no no, this place gives you the entire bucket. Warning: portions are HUGE. The first time my husband & I went, we each ordered a pupusa + an entree. We had to take the entrees home (btw - the enchiladas suizas are yummy). Darn it - my mouth is watering now. Thank goodness we're driving up to SF next week!

A nice change from most of the gruel offered along Hwy 5. If you like melted cheese and have 15 minutes to wait for them to be made, try the pupusas. Other unusual things to try, like fried plantains with beans and sour cream.

This place is truly an oasis of some bomb ass food in the middle of buttfuck nowhere! After my last stop here in Buttonwillow I noticed this little joint, but it was only after I had already picked up lunch. This time I was with my Spanish speaking cuzo, so he helped make this experience a little bit smoother. The chips were fresh, and the salsa was of medium spice. Now coming from only trying pupusas at one location in the bay area, I had no idea what I was getting into here. So I ordered what I usually do, one pupusa with beans and cheese, and a pork and cheese one with a side of beans and rice. Little did I know that the pupusas here are mutant sized! The bean and cheese one was off the hook, the pork one not as tasty, but I'm not knocking down any stars for that because I still rolled out of this place full! They also serve jarriscos, which is liquid fruity sugar in a bottle, but so, so good! They also serve ice cream here, but we were way too stuffed to even think about that option. Tita you have officially won my heart over as the best location to get my grub on while driving to L.A!

This is a great place to stop, take a break, and enjoy a good meal along Interstate 5 - but not if you are in a hurry. Service is pretty slow. They have a drive through, but you might as well come inside and relax, because you will be waiting for a while. The menu is a mix of Salvadoran and Mexican favorites and when the food eventually does come, it's pretty good. If you have never tried a papusa or other food from El Salvador this is as good a place as any to do so. There are cheaper and faster places to eat in the area, but this is one of the few where they almost force you to slow down and take a break from driving. You can also order to go if you really need to keep moving.

A throwback to the classic taco trucks; not another copycat gourmet food truck with fusion menus and overpriced water. This one is legit. You want some delicious pupusas topped off with a Mexican coke? Here is the spot. I would recommend the squash and cheese pupusa. The burrito wasn't that great, but it's a PUPUSA TRUCK, not a burrito truck. You're probably thinking, "I don't want to go to a taco truck where I can't even sit down!" Surprise, surprise, they have a nice covered seating area with wood tables and a place to wash your hands and face if you really need to clean yourself after a long drive through the desert. Check it out, if you come back for seconds on another drive, Tita will remember you.

Not quite the amazing culinary experience I had secretly hoped for, Tita's serves as a great pit-stop on I-5 for filling, cheap, *real* food made by people. The restaurant may take awhile, try the taco truck a block down instead. You can also drink a beer while you wolf down your gigantic, super filling pupusas. Just trying doing *that* at Carl's jr. Pupusa up!

Viva Tita's!!! Ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai! I have to agree with Mortiche on this one. Wow! What a fabulous surprise! In my effort to try something new and different and definitely better in the way of food on my I-5 drives, I decided to try out Tita's. I always figure bad Mexican is better than a fast food place any day. Lardy refried beans and layers of toasty cheese can make up for a lot. I was thrilled to see that they also had pupusas. Our Salvadorean friends had treated us to these tasty concoctions a while back but ones I tasted after could never compare. Enter Tita.... When we first sat down, we were presented with the usual basket of chips and bowl of salsa. The chips looked store bought and stale and at first the salsa seemed bland. I prepared myself for a mediocre meal. But I was happily mistaken, the salsa flavors built one on top of the other with each chip. It didn't matter that the chips were second rate. The flavor continued to build into a fabulous crescendo of deliciousness that only allowed me to pull away when my mouth was completely burning with heat. I would have been happy with just that experience. And then our entrees came... Hubs got two pupusas, and I got the special, two tacos with rice and beans for a grand total of $10. Eat that you fast food bastards! I got one carnitas taco and one carne asada. The meat was perfectly seasoned and savory. We had planned to share, but I only gave Hubs a couple bites. My tacos were too good. The salsa was so good I bought a cup of it to go. And now I'll have a little memento of our trip to the fabulous Tita's. When it's gone, I will eagerly await our next road trip.

Pupusas with loroco are awesome. You can tell they are handwade and authentic. This will definitely be a regular stop on any future norcal-socal road trips.

Me amo Tita's! I think other folks do too, but since this location (the one closer to I-5) wasn't on Yelp yet, people mistakenly put their reviews in for the other one. After a disappointing dinner the night before at the Willow Ranch, our dining options for this town dwindled. Should we bite the bullet and go to Denny's, or hit the restaurant back at the TA Travel Center, which was pretty much the same as Denny's, sans families and more truckers? My hesitance to eat at Mexican eateries has good reason. I'm allergic to garlic and onions, and I can't stand cilantro, even in the remotest parts-per-billion quantity so this leaves a lot of their flavors to the satisfaction of other people more fortunate. There are exceptions like Juan's Place in Berkeley where I can get my food on without drowning in pico de gallo but the places are few and far between, not to mention I have a hard time paying $4 for little tacos that have little more than seasoned beef and a squeeze of lime. but I digress- we were hungry and I we refused to suffer another meal at a crappy dining establishment being treated worse than sewer rats. After countless jokes about Tita's pupusas and a twiste pupusa (the signage had a missing r and s for their twisters, I guess a type of shake they make) - heheheheh- we decided to give this place a go. Even though I work close to the Mission district in San Francisco, I've never had a pupusa and my over curious palate said the time was right. My reasoning to JR was this- we drove into the town of Buttonwillow proper to see if it had any better dining options (it didn't)- they had another Tita's there as well, and they also had a roach coach too. I figured if they were successful to have three things going on at the same time, they must be pretty good. We walk into Tita's and the young lady tells us to have a seat if we were dining in, which we were. it was pretty quiet around 7:30PM with only two tables of about 4-6 folks. My eyes keep bouncing all over the menu because I'm hell bent on eating a pupusa if not two, and something else authentic like lengua (tongue), cabeza (head) or sesos (brain). they didn't have sesos so I settled for lengua as it's usually tender, flavorful and not greasy as with other cuts of meat. JR ordered the three enchiladas roja, which he got one of each (beef, chicken and cheese). Our server was very helpful in asnwering a few questions I had about the food. We also ordered a pork and cheese and also a cheese and vegetable (which tasted a lot like nopalitos-cactus) pupusa to try. JR said he tried pupusas a little while back, in Richmond on San Pablo somewhere and he said it wasn't anything to write home about. It was too quiet and I like music with my food so I decided to throw some money into their jukebox and arbitrarily pick songs. Roger's method was to pick songs based off of sombrero size- mine was the size and number of chins (double, triple) and we seemed to fare well. The restaurant was filled with jovial music as we nibbled on our chips and beer. Our food arrived and I nearly had a heart attack- the lengua burrito, which I had them NOT put their spicy salsa OR pico de gallo, but added lettuce and tomatoes and it came with beans and rice, was the size of a football. I shit you not. As I sat contemplating how I was going to eat this all, the pupusas showed up and I cried mercy. The lengua was tender, not greasy at all, and not overly seasoned- just how I like it. I'm used to eating it braised and sliced, and this was chopped which I think I prefer. I also think it would serve other people well to have it with the salsa as it was a little on the bland side, but I can't take the heat! The pupusas were great- slightly crisped where the grill had touched their sides leaving little grill marks, and tender and not too fluffy or bready. The cheese and pork oozed delicious meaty flavor and the cheese and El Salvadorean vegetable one was also very tasty and savory. It was served with this shredded pickled cabbagy carroty slaw which you put on top and a little squeeze bottle of mild tomato sauce- deeeelicious! JR said these pupusas were much better than the ones he had previously. There was no way in hell I had room for dessert but their display case by the cash register with all different sorts of sweets was twisting my arm in a bad way. I didn't give in but next time I may not be so successful. Browsing their menu I also noticed they served breakfast. What a shame we didn't overcome our hesitance and eat here the day before since the money we spent at Willow Ranch was a waste, but then again I'm glad we ended our stay at Buttonwillow with a delightful meal. Thanks Tita, we'll be back for your delicious pupusas and other foods next year when AFM racing hits Buttonwillow again!

Wow what a treat!! My husband found and authentic salvadorian restaurant... and in the middle of no where!! Well of course he ordered 3 pupusas and ordering this dish is always a good 10 to 15 mins., maybe 20 mins. So do not order this dish if you are in a hurry! So we had some time to kill.... the inside of the restaurant, the decor is like walking into any central american's house with their flag on display, knick knacks. Then if you ever have an issue with your tires while traveling, there is a place across the way that services your tire needs (FYI). So we got our dish, so presentation typical wrapped in paper, got the relish and sauce in a baggie. Could of gotten more, very conservative amount :( . The pupusa was very cheesy, so it felt like tha masa did not cook thorough ( usually it has a certain crisp to it) . Overall the flavor good. Definitel a real treat in the middle of no where.

On the way home from Las Vegas, we stopped for some gas and a bite to eat in Buttonwillow. Although we were aiming for the McDonald's, Tita's Pupuseria caught our eye. Being half Salvadorian, we decided to give this place a try and see how authentic it was. Coming upon it from the outside, it definitely doesn't look like much, but sometimes that can be a good sign. Upon walking in, we were greeted by the hostess who told us to sit where we wanted. The place looked like a typical Latin restaurant, and we liked the vibe. In looking over the menus, they was the full assortment of Salvadorian and Mexican food, with a few American sandwiches thrown in for those who are not so adventurous. The hard part was deciding where to start. I went directly for the pupusas and my wife went for the burrito. Now before getting into the food review, a few comments about service: The waitress who is also the hostess, the server, the cashier, and the table cleaner was fantastic; very polite, friendly and helpful. Absolutely no complaints. This is a small family restaurant, so there's not a lot of staff - but that helps keep prices in check. The pupusas came out just like I used to get them at home. Completely authentic and true to the Salvadorian region of Central America. I would have to say these are probably the best I have eaten in both the San Francisco Bay Area and the Sacramento region combined. Very flavorful, just the right size and the curtido was tart and true to form. Exactly what I would expect from a Salvadorian restaurant. The burrito was large, and made the right way - without all the American sour cream and cheese. The Chile Verde was very flavorful and smooth. I highly recommend it. I also tried the Horchata which by far is the best I have had. Not watered down like many places. The only downside is that I wanted to take a nap after lunch instead of getting back into the car and continuing the drive home. I will definitely be back soon and looking to pack up a few dozen pupusas to take home. One final comment. In reading the reviews on here some people have complained about how long it takes to get their food or of not being told of a delay. This clearly shows their complete lack of understanding of how Salvadorian food is made - especially pupusas. Pupusas take time (so do Tamales); they are made to order, not made ahead of time and sitting under a heat lamp. They are labor intensive to make, so you have to allow the time to make them, prep them and cook them. That's why it takes a while. Your patience will be rewarded with a fantastic meal that is truly authentic Salvadorian and well worth the stop and the time spent enjoying your meal and the time off the road. If you want quick and easy, then McDonald's is right across the street.

I asked the waitress what to order and she recommended the steak something...maybe steak fajitas? Anyway, I selected corn tortillas and had extra sour cream and guacamole. The vegetables were superb. The steak was remarkable...truly! I remember it still! (writing this review months later). I live in the Bay Area and a friend is driving up to visit and I have asked him to stop there and bring me a take out order...now, really, I doubt this place expected to be supplying deliveries to the Bay Area! ...but they are...I can't wait... Oh, I noticed only local families speaking Spanish were there other than me...that is always a good sign, because you assume they could be home cooking this but instead they are here. That means the food is good, the quality is there, the place is clean, the price is right, the servings are plentiful. I didn't see people ordering alcohol, but I did.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
