Everytime without fail I will order the tri-tip plate. I've been coming here since it was a booth near the campus and have spent maybe 3 birthday dinners here at this point. Garlic-cilantro sauce.....over perfectly cooked and juicy tritip with ricotta cheese....the perfect combination. Also, their hot sauce is extremely delicious. I may lose a bit of hearing and start sweating in the middle of winter....but it is totally worth it. With that combination, I have never left anything on the plate when I'm done. OMG PINEAPPLE DOLE WHIP! Gotta go. *noms*

As a true Brazilian i recommend this place, has authentic sandwiches and good price!! Oba Oba is my favorite sandwich, also their trip tip plate is awesome! they have Guarana for the lowest price in the bay

Colorful and tasty! The tri-tip was really delicious, the meat was tender and the sauce with pineapples was great! Looking forward to come back ;)

Welcoming as soon as I walked in. The server was attentive and offered great suggestions. I opted for the tri-tip bowl. It was hearty and delicious. The cilantro sauce made it especially tasty. No spice kick to it, so the hot sauce does come in handy.

Tri-tip sandwich/plate are both great. Only thing reason I wouldn't give the five stars is because sometimes it takes a while for the food to be ready so I'd recommend calling in beforehand. Other than that the food I've tried there has been on point.

What's better than tri-tip? A tri-tip rice bowl mixed with creamy ricotta, cilantro pesto sauce, and grilled onions, with two pieces of soft, fluffy bread at Brazil Cafe. If you go to Cal, surely you have heard the rumors of Brazil Cafe unless you've been living under a rock (in which case you are probably not on Yelp so this review wouldn't help much). I came here with the usual skepticism for hyped up places, and it didn't help that my food came out looking like an oily mess. In fact, to begin with I did not have a huge appetite for tri-tip because I was in that quasi-vegetarian health freak phase. But what really made me raise my eyebrows was seeing ice cream in my tri-tip bowl. Wha... Fast forward a mixing and a few bites, and my opinion makes a 360. The oiliness was not too oily, the tri-tip was tender and roasty, and what I had thought to be ice cream was actually a scoop of whipped ricotta cheese. So long as Brazil Cafe tri-tip bowls exist, I can never be vegetarian.

I love the food don't get me wrong, the tri tip plates are out of this world! But!... The service is terrible! The waitress is stone cold when taking your order, and is not welcoming or friendly at all. One day I over heard her talking in Spanish to the cook about how she hates her job and the owners. I give the food five stars but until they step up their service I will give 2 stars. It's a shame because I really do love the food I've been coming here with my boyfriend for a long time and the only reason I return is for the food.

I've never tried Brazilian food, so this is my first experience, and I like it! I tried Pedro's favorite sandwich, which is the tri-tip one. I love the sauce and all the ingredients the sandwich comes with--pineapples, olives, tomato, lettuce, jalapeños, and ricotta cheese. The meat is cut up into chunks, and some pieces are tough, but overall it's a good sandwich. Only downside is that it is pretty messy because of all the sauce. The mango smoothie is so good! It's not really refreshing, but it is delicious. Take advantage of the free check-in offer to try the smoothie! I've been to the restaurant and the little shack too. The shack is nice for something quick, but not a lot of seating. Restaurant is pretty small too.

Tasty and with perfect beer pairings on food selection. See you all out there on the weekend so I might sample the national dish. .

We stopped by at around 1:30PM on a Saturday and there was plenty of seating. We noticed that there was a yelp deal for a free mango smoothie so my sister-in-law and I both redeemed it. When the waitress brought them out, she gave my brother a free one just so we could all have them! The food was amazing as well. I had the tri-tip sandwich. I guess you really can't go wrong with any of the tri-tip dishes. I loved that the sandwich had chunks of pineapple. The cilantro-y / green sauce went so well with the meat, and everything just had such great flavor. Great service, great food.

I'm so glad Brazil Cafe has been able to move to a larger storefront with the most COLORFUL outdoor seating in the back and coolest bathroom (you have to take a peek. it's so cute. i swear). For first-timers, definitely get the "Famous Tri-Tip" bowl/sandwich/salad- they are all delicious!! I asked for the sauces on the side because the creamy cilantro sauce is a bit *too* heavy in my opinion. Definitely very flavorful, but best in small doses. Check-in on Yelp for a free mango lassi (smoothie). It's sooo fresh with some chunky mango pieces. Mmmhmm. And to my pleasant surprise, they also serve dole whip!! -1 star because it is kinda pricey.. (~$12 for a plate/salad). The portions are big, but it isn't something I would eat on the weekly.

  • Sandra S.

Tri tip plate is a must try, they have seating in the back if you would love to eat in the sun. Price is decent & the food is very fulfilling!

I ordered a Pedro's Favorite Tri Tip Sandwich and I must say, after it was sitting for a while it still was good. Just imagine eating it right away. The preparation time is a bit long. Kind of expensive. Nice employees. It's a booth so I can't judge the atmosphere.

It was a cold night, and while the shack gets the job done just fine, I took a stroll since I wanted to sit indoors. Though it's a bit out of the way, I finally made the trek to the new location. It's exactly what you expect from Brazil Cafe: amazing tri-tip. Much like its previous location, it's not too fancy of a place, but it's just good enough to get the job done. It also has a patio in the back, which is pretty nice, and I'll definitely stop by once I'm of age. I got what I always get when I go to Brazil Cafe: what else but the tri-tip sandwich? Just like I remembered it, it was amazing and just as good as you would find at the shack, so no complaints there. Solid food, a bit out of the way location, but ultimately, a worthwhile trip. My only gripe is that the restaurant seems understaffed. There were way more people than the single waiter and cook could handle, but I do not necessarily blame them. The waiter was great, made some small talk, and even gave suggestions. It was definitely a different experience than the shack, but not in a bad way. Will I come back? Surely. I will say that it is in a rather inconvenient location, so I worry a bit with regards to business, but it's Brazil Cafe. They have nothing to worry about. TIP: Get the tri-tip sandwich!

  • April C.

I love the tri-tip sandwiches here!! The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because it is literally a shack The music is super loud in their tine outdoor area so trying to have a conversation or study is nearly impossible. The staff are very friendly. Don't judge a book by it's cover, this place is good!

The flames of the heat lamps, the rockin Brazilian music, the yummy aromas of cooking meat... I had so much hope, and had been meaning to try it for a few months. I ordered the Feijoada- a Brazilian black bean stew, a special of the night, and it was entirely edible... Tasty and seasoned well, good plating. Unfortunately, the kitchen seemed to be having a bad night, but from other reviews it seems like a regular issue. In spite of what seemed like a sizable staff for a small restaurant- I saw at least 5- every person in my section of the restaurant (the front) had to get up to remind a waiter of their order, their drink, or their check. No one seemed to stick to assigned roles, and one waiter (or owner) left the restaurant clearly frustrated. I checked out the back patio-it's a gem-and I can imagine bringing friends there for a pitcher of mojitos on a warm East Bay night. Please get your kitchen organized Pedro's, you're worth it!

Excellent tri tip sandwich, love their pesto sauce! Someday I'll branch out and try their other stuff but right now I love this sandwich!! They also have cute little tables set out and play good music while you wait for your order to be ready.

They allow dogs in their patio, friendly servers, great food! It was really busy when we were there so it took them a while to bring our food. Mango smoothie,tri-tip, veggie bowl and the cheese puffs were delicious!

Delish. Loved the Pedro's special. Super fast, hot and juicy. Ordered it to go, but that Sammy cried out for my undivided attention which was provided along table side with extra peppers. I've been here before and it was good, but Pedro is THE way to go.

What a great find!!!! Delicious food with amazing flavors! My wife and I shared a tri tip sandwich and chipotle chicken mini tostadas. The flavors were amazing and different. We sat in the rose garden patio which gave it a whole different vibe to the restaurant. We will definitely be coming back soon!!!

2 stars because the owner was nice.... I ordered Pedro's favorite with the works. Everything was amazing b but the tri-tip was tough and dry. I really wanted to like this place.

Great outside area! Plese get a seat outside, the garden is beautiful! Order the feijoada on the weekends, it's really good and makes Brazilians, like me, feel at home. Ok, the sausage they use is not the same as in Brazil but the dish does the job, very tasty!!!!

Pedro's Brazil Cafe is one of the very few, few things I crave while I'm away from the Bay Area. I alternate between getting the Tri-Tip Sandwich and the Tri-Tip Bowl. The sandwich is spectacular. The sweetness of the pineapples, the softness of the bread, the creaminess of the cilantro and ricotta cheese sauces, and the warm pieces of tri-tip all create a perfect blend of flavors. It is pretty messy though, which is why I usually only order the sandwich if I'm taking it to-go to eat in the comfort of my own home. The sandwich, however, is not as filling as the bowl. The bowl doesn't come with as many ingredients. You get rice, tri-tip, marinated onions, ricotta cheese, cilantro sauce, and two pieces of bread. At first glance, it may not seem like much, but I promise that it's really filling! A plus side is that if you check in on Yelp, you get a free small sized mango smoothie. The mango smoothie is incredibly fresh and sweet, but be warned--because it's free, you're practically getting a Dixie cup's worth of it. I've never chosen to get the full-sized smoothie because of how pricey it can be with dinner alone, but I think it's pretty worth it. The service varies almost every time I come here, which is a downside. One time I had a wonderful server who was very sweet and attentive. Another time I had a waitress who seemed less than thrilled to be doing her job and wasn't very warm at all. If you're looking to get a real experience with Pedro's Brazil Cafe, I suggest trying the outdoor stand on a nice sunny day in Berkeley. The ambiance there is much more authentic and you get a little more than you do in this indoor restaurant. I'll always remain faithful to Pedro's though, for its delicious Brazilian food that you can't seem to get anywhere else in the Bay Area.

Pedro's is amazing! I came to this location first even though I had the original one bookmarked. both locations are consistent with their delicious tri-tip. I love their tri-tip rice plate(about $10). it's so good!! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. the cilantro sauce is the bomb! I usually mix everything all together and add some green hot sauce. it's all so flavorful! it's really filling also. I've never been able to finish the whole rice plate in one sitting. their mango smoothies are so thick and delicious. I've always gotten a small one for free with my check-in. it's a perfect amount for me to enjoy with my meal. I wish they had the açai smoothie at this location! I know they have it at the original one though. come here!! and get anything with tri-tip! you won't be disappointed!

Yum! I used to love going to the hut location at the corner of University and Walnut in Berkeley but given the choice now prefer the newer full sit-down location at 1960 University Ave. They have a large patio out at back that overlooks a little rose garden which all makes for a perfect lunch spot on a nice warm day. My go to is Pedro's Favorite (tri-tip, olives and pineapple with lettuce and tomato SMOTHERED in chimichurri sauce - OOOOMG). Equally tasty but ordered less often is the spicy tuna sandwich on their homemade bread. You really can't go wrong here - they have something for everyone (even you vegetarians out there!). Check-in on Yelp while there and score a free mango smoothie!

Delicious cilantro sauce and perfect rice. Must get the cheese bread app. The outdoor patio is casual and gorgeous.

First, I love Pedro and his Brazilian Cafe stand. Have been eating there since 2005. The food is always very tasty and you can't beat the service at the stand. Both times when i recently visited this new location however, the service has been awful. The staff is very friendly, but god awfully slow and with no attention to detail. It took about 20 minutes just to have someone take our order, the appetizers came out after our main dish (after we asked where the hell our cheese puffs were... PS try the cheese puffs), and i had to chase around staff to pay for the bill. It also doesn't help that the staff walks so fricken slow. Pure sloth. Food 5 stars, Outdoor rose garden 5 stars. Service 1 star. Will come back for the food, but will prepare my companions for frustrating service.

Do you like tri-tip? Do you like it slathered in cilantro garlic sauce and sandwiched between layers of tomatoes, pineapples, cheese, jalapenos, and a warm, soft french roll? Yeah, ME TOO. Note: they also offer vegetarian options! I have been to the two separate locations - the one closest to the Cal campus, which is more of a food stand, and one further down on University, which is more restaurant style and has a nice seating area - and both times I ordered Pedro's Favorite Sandwich (described above). Regardless of location, the food was fresh and the service was friendly and quick. This is my new go-to to when I want to grab a casual bite. It may not be the healthiest option but it is definitely the tastiest option...so... yolo. Bonus: they usually have a promotion that offers a free mango smoothie with your order if you check in on Yelp!

My boyfriend and I wandered in on a whim last night because we'd always heard good things and the place was nearly empty (Monday night approx. 7pm). We had to wait an unusual amount of time for them to take our order considering we were only one of two parties in the restaurant. That said, we ordered two rice bowls -- Tri Tip and Chicken -- and it was SO GOOD. The cilantro garlic sauce was amazing and the entire dish was just plain delicious. What's more, they gave us a free mango smoothie for the wait and it was equally amazing. I will definitely be returning. Great food, nice people, very reasonable prices.

After yelping this place, I took a few friends here for lunch...unfortunately I would never go back!! Why you ask?? 1. "TERRIBLE" customer service. Not friendly, Not personable, Awkward, Aggressive,...snatching menus, never greeted or seated, food and water placed on table then walked away....you almost feel like like your being forced to eat then pushed out the door. 2. I ordered the Tri-Tip sandwich.. was very bland and chewy. Nothing special. 3. I actually would have giving this place another chance if the service wasn't so poor.

New location with a great outdoor patio lounge area! Their outdoor area is flowery and their dining seating area is colorful! Get any of their tri-tip bowls and have it with their fresh mango smoothie! You can't go wrong with that combo! Their beef was well cooked and their house sauce tasted creamy and amazing. Their mango was thick and fruiti-licious! If weather permits, take your meal outside and the dining experience will be fabulous!

The great reviews is what brought me here, the delicious food is what will keep me coming back. I got the grilled chicken sandwich with "the works" and it was da bomb! The acai smoothie was G double O D good too! This place is a little pricey, but the quality of food is worth it.

GARLIC. CILANTRO. SAUCE. This stuff is better than crack. A group of friends and I dropped by the Brazil Cafe, and I was super excited on the inside because I have heard raving reviews about the food from people who frequented the old location. Our group of five was seated promptly, and service was very friendly throughout. I took one look at the menu and knew I had to order their tri-tip rice bowl. Why? Because it said "Famous" in the name. If something is famous, it has to be good, right? That, added to the fact that the tri-tip sandwich has "Favorite" listed in the name, told me that the tri-tip is the way to go here. And boy, did I ever make the right choice. The bowl came out with a pile of tri-tip, grilled onions, cheese, and garlic cilantro sauce slathered over rice. I have never devoured anything so fast in my entire life. It was scrumptious right down to the last morsel of rice. They're even so kind as to give two pieces of bread so that you can soak up the remaining delicious sauce that's left in the bowl (not sure that's really what the purpose of the bread is, but it made sense to me!). I will definitely be back for another serving soon.

Ohhhh Pedro...with the yellow hummer. I love your food...7 years ago and now. I've only been to your little house by ace hardware but you know how to cook tri tip Sammie or plate.

Pretty good Brazilian food in Berkeley! We saw it on our way to campus and decided to get dinner there. We ordered the tri-tip hot plate and was not disappointed at all. The green sauce was amazing. Mixing the sauce with the tri-tip was even better :d nice and satisfying for 2 people. Reminded me of a Brazilian version of halal food. The Mango Smoothie was just average and service wasn't too friendly so they lost me a star on that. Overall try it when you visit Berkeley!

  • Katherine B.

Always coming back for more. Love the tri tip plate. It's a big portion and really gets you full. The mango smoothie varies, but always good on a warm day. Took my friends from San Diego here and they absolutely enjoyed it!

  • Kenneth R.

I checked in on yelp and got a free mango smoothie. Don't forget to fire up your yelp app when you walk in the door! The mango smoothie was consumed with gusto by my two dining companions while we were waiting for our dishes: a roast pork rice bowl for me plus a veggie sandwich and a chicken bowl for my two fellow diners. Everyone was happy with her or his lunch. I thought that the pork bowl was a bit overpriced for what I received: a modest quantity of food whose tastes did not send me into ecstasy. I decided on three stars because I thought that the quality/price ratio was a bit on the low side. Each of the other two diners at the table would have awarded four stars to this establishment. I'll stick with three, but my companions are free to add their own reviews if they feel that my grade is too harsh.

  • Melissa V.

Tri-tip plate was simply amazing! Down to the sauce that came with it. The food does take a while to prepare but the quality makes up for it. And also, the owner is quite hospitable and easy to talk to! My boyfriend ordered the acai berry smoothie and basically inhaled the thing. He liked it so much it was gone under 5 minutes! Must see and stop by when in Berkeley! I will definitely be coming again.

Nice spot to eat. Walking up to the place you can smell the food. The Tri Tip sandwich is the hands down the thing to get. Love it!

From the moment I walked into this place, I loved it. I found myself tapping my feet to the music as I was waiting. The decorative art and the smell of something amazing quickly drew me in. I ordered the tri tip sandwich. My mom got the tri tip rice bowl. Both EXCELLENT dishes! Reminded me of being in Brazil with how authentic everything tasted. The cilantro-based sauce is my favorite. I will definitely be back--and that is saying a lot since I live in Southern California !

I've been to the cafe/shack on the corner but when I saw this location just right down the street, I had to visit this spot cuz there are more tables and it's an actual restaurant. Don't get me wrong, I still like the other location, it's just more comfy here. They have a cool al fresco dining in the back painted yellow and green with heat lamps but my fiancé & I decided to sit inside. Great service and they even gave us 2 free smoothies instead of 1 which we got for checking in through Yelp. Same amazing food as usual and we also ordered one of their small plates which was called Pao de Quiejo (hope I spelled it right). It's basically puffed pastry stuffed with cheese served with their oh so delicious cilantro sauce. All warm & soft... mmm. Definitely coming back fo sho!

  • Aaron Y.

Today was the grand opening, so we were lucky to be their guineapigs! The cheese bread things were great with the cilantro sauce. The sauce is like a creamy pesto! It was also in the roasted pork bowl i got. Tender pork with rice, cilantro sauce, ranch, ricotta, grilled onions and bread. Really good. The tri tip bowl was even tastier! Same thing, just switch out the meat. Theyre super friendly here! Also tried the mango smoothie and it was pretty good. I'm so glad they have Speakeasy Prohibition beer! If you like Dole Whip, they have it here!!! Still some kinks to work out for this new location, but I'm sure they'll be just fine.

The first time I had the tri tip sandwich was sometime last year, and it was amazing. I was sitting in the sunshine on the side of the little shack, and the sandwich was drippingly delicious. I used 6 napkins to control the mess, and there was a bee flying around my head, but I didn't care, I was focused on the sandwich. The second time, I went to the actual restaurant down the street (mainly because it was nighttime and cold outside). Our server (I wish I remembered her name) was SO cheerful and helpful and even noticed that the bf needed some cold medicine lol (he was ok). I ordered the tri tip sandwich again, and still not disappointed! Something about how their special sauce combined with ricotta on bread with some meat and veggies makes such a delicious combination. The sandwich can't be beat, and if you want a more dainty but filling version of the sandwich, get the rice bowl! Same ingredients but over a bed of rice.

Went before closing time and I had very low expectations for the shack at the side of the road after my fiancée talked it up. Ordered Pedro's favorite, the tri tip plate with the works and it was fabulous. The type of yum that you don't even want a piece of melted sharfen berger in the car because you want the flavors in your mouth to last. Meat is cubed and cooked well, served on French bread with amazing garlic cilantro sauce, tomato, and pineapple, jalapeño, cheese and green olives It was really so good.

I went here with roommates the other day and got the tri-tip platter plate with salad and that amazing dip. Service is fast and friendly. I really liked the outside seating! Be sure to get the mango smoothie, it's a nice and a refreshing drink! I can't wait to return!! I'll probably bring a mason jar for extra sauce/hummus dip!

The shack (Brazil Fresh Squeeze Cafe) on University and Walnut is definitely much more famous and popular, but this place is great if you want somewhere indoors that serves the same food. They have the same awesome tri tip that you'll get at the shack but it's an indoor sitdown place so you can visit here if the weather isn't super good or if you're in the mood for a more "restaurant-y" environment.

We spent there my birthday , few weeks a go , was pretty awesome , what can u say ??? No many more open places like that in the east bay . I had many friends came over , we got few tables , sunny Saturday , no alcohol but that's ok , good beer , good service , good food , only beer but that's ok , they have huge glasses , recommend that place ;)

This was our 4th time here, first time at this new location, and it was just awful. What happenend? We ordered the tri tip hot plate but got some other tri tip from the other side of the menu, because, the waitress said, "I always bring this tri-tip, no matter what the customer says" Uh, what???!! The customer orders what they want, points to what they want on the menu, but you bring something else?! The tri tip had no flavor. Just small chunks of beef on top of rice. So boring. I used to love their beans that came with the tri-tip, but remember, the waitress this time brought us the wrong tri tip, so no beans for us! No 5th time for us! Fortunately, afterwards, we walked to the Julia Morgan theater and loved the play "Recipe". So the whole night was not a bust.

Definitely one of my top few best places to eat at! My man and I discovered this place a few years back at its original location, a Shack off University. When we ordered the Tri-Tip plate I was blown away how good it tasted coming out of a little kitchen in a tiny shack! We instantly fell in love and found our selves driving to Berkeley a half hour away just to go to this place. I always hoped they'd open an indoor restaurant location due to bad weather, long lines and no seating available at the shack. We've experienced all three many times! Thank God they opened this place! Now we can eat inside without worrying about the weather and standing in the longest line ever! Why I LOVE Brazil Cafe: Great food, especially my favorite, the Tri-Tip Plate with onions, rice and cilantro sauce! So YUM! Yummy free Mango Smoothies Nice lovely staff! One thing I do miss about going to the shack is watching Pedro, the owner clap outside the Shack. If you've been there you'd know what I'm talking about :) He is super friendly and gives the place a great atmosphere. Friendly, fun and great food!

Combine anything on the menu with the green cilantro-garlic sauce, and the result is gustatory MAGIC! I don't know what they put in that sauce, but it's so creamy-gooood. This is the new location of Brazil Cafe, and it's much more spacious than the previous one on Shattuck. It even has outdoor seating in the back. They're running a Yelp Check-in promotion: Check in & you can get a free small mango smoothie. Yum. After you check in, keep the smoothie voucher page open so that an employee can mark it as used on your phone - if you navigate away from it, it can be a struggle to display the voucher again. J loved his tri-tip sandwich, and I loved my Samba (grilled chicken) hot plate. The hot plate came with farofa, which is this stuff that looks like sawdust but is actually yucca deep fried with bacon, and it adds this nice crunch when you mix it in with the rest of the food. The waitress was really nice! The only disappointing thing was that after we ordered, it took about 35-40 minutes before we got our food. This was on a Tuesday night, when the restaurant was less than half full. I can't imagine what might happen during peak hours. S L O W. But delicious. Bottom line: Come to the cafe and partake in the goodness - but NOT if you're in a rush.

This is the restaurant version of the ever-so-popular Brazil Fresh Squeeze Cafe. I can finally satisfy my tri tip cravings at night now without fear of sitting out in the dark or in the brisk Berkeley chill while I'm trying to scarf down my tri tip. Now my friends and I can actually sit down indoors and enjoy a cheap meal of delicious tri tip in comfort! Plus, the tri tip rice bowl actually seemed bigger than the outdoor stand and our waitress was very friendly and chill. AND THEY HAVE DOLE WHIP! If you've ever been to Hawaii or Disneyland, then you know what sorcery I'm talking about!

Whether it's the one on the corner or this one they are both good. I usually stick with the tri tip combo and havnt tried anything else. That's all you need. I live in hercules and drive all the way out here for the tri tip and grilled onions over rice.

I love Brazil Cafe! This review is for their new location only. I ordered the tri-tip plate (like I normally do at the other location) except this time it came out with some red bean soup on the side, and salted ground peanuts on my plate, NO SALAD. The tri-tip is delicious, the green sauce is TO DIE FOR. I could eat that over rice for days. And I love adding the extra habenero sauce over the mixture of the rice and meat! I went on a Sunday night, it wasn't busy when my table and I arrived. But then it got packed, like it usually does. And the single waitress could not handle the crowd but I don't blame her. 1 cook, 1 waitress and 1 busboy managing about 25+ patrons that are all coming in at once. But don't let this deter you from checking out the food. If you're not big on waiting for your order, just call ahead and take it to-go; it is worth it!

I'm am sorry that I will give this place a bad review. The owner is a great guy all the way but the business and service quite the opposite. Brasilian restaurant needs to have brasilian dishes like in their country. I found the food to be very blan with too much rice instead of meat. The mango drink had minimal to no flavor, The service is terrible from the waitresses. Let's get this together an I'll gladly give it another try.

I have no idea why this place is not more popular. Perhaps it has to do with their location. Don't forget to check-in to get your mango smoothie to go with a mountain of excellent quality food at a very reasonable price.

The food is delicious. The owner is a stand-up guy. If you're in the area, don't be afraid to try something new.

Probably one of the smallest, cutest, and tastiest places to get a nice lunch or dinner here on this side of campus (togo)! My bf surprised me on a valentine's day rooftop dinner with food catered from here. It was, I would say divine. We got the obama's favorite, tri tip, and salad sampler Obama's favorite: very weird name but it was basically the most tender carnitas I have ever tasted. You could stick your entire fork through the meat...its that tender! The trip tip was great. It was slightly salty but thats expected because traditional Brazillian bbq uses a lot of salt and pepper to marinade their meats. Salad sampler was ok. Just ok. I would really pass on this. We also came back here today for lunch and got 2 pedro's favorite sandwiches. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK IN FOR A FREE SMALL MANGO SMOOTHIE! Check in! The sandwiches were amazing, the garlic sauce really made the bread stand out. However, 10 minutes into eating it, the sauces from the meat and garlic made the bread really soggy. DONT togo this and bring it home/work. EAT IT THERE or on your way home at every red light, stop sign, or hell, turn on your emergency blinkers and gobble away! Come here for a traditional Brazillian feast. Its a load of YUM.

I got the tri-tip sandwich and the mango smoothie. My girl got the tri-tip plate and mango smoothie. Both are good choices. Highly recommend and they'll give u samples. WINNNER!

I love this place. Great food. Tri tip plate always hits the spot.

Loved the outdoor patio. Their famous tri tip sandwich was very saucy and I felt the beef was not of the best quality - very bland by itself (hence the sauce to add flavor). In my sandwiches, I want the meat to do the taking and the sauce to amplify the noise, not generate all the noise. If you are some of the fortunate few to have eaten a Paseo Cuban sandwich, then steer clear of this place....you have seen the light and you are setting yourself up to fail. I've heard that Slow (next door) has way better food and also has the same patio setup. Maybe give that a try instead.

The owner offered my husband and I a sample. The tri tip tastes great, just wish the portion Was a little larger with a side?

Came her while on vacation, and this place doesn't disappoint. The owner gave us free mango smoothies, as it was our first time there. Our group collectively enjoyed our food and I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for high quality food in a relaxed environment. Choose outdoor seating if you can!

I always get the Tri-tip Rice Bowl and it never ever disappoints. The outdoor seating is really nice when it's warm out. Also, try the mango smoothie that's free with a Yelp check in! It goes great with everything on the menu. Prompt service, fun interior, and amazing food is what makes me keep coming back to this awesome place!

I used to eat their tri-tip sandwich and plate in college often but stopped on my last visit four years ago when the sandwich was overly salty. Their happy hour specials were only $1.50 off their small plates (appetizers). I didn't look carefully at the drinks since I was there for food and was pretty hungry so I went with the tri-tip sandwich. I requested to have the sandwich less salty but the waiter said accommodations could not be made because the meat was pre-marinated. My sandwich was ~$9.50 and came out to a little over $10, including tax. It was about 2 oz. of well-done spicy tri-tip cuts, with their green sauce, cheese, olives, and lettuce on a French roll. I was disappointed by both the amount of food and by the flavor of the sandwich. I do like the green sauce they add, however it is masked behind the salt, and all the cheese. My sandwich reminded me of just a thick mayo mess, even though it contained no mayo. The tri-tip itself, I realized, did not have much flavor- it's really only salty and spicy. The sandwich was about 6 inches (probably same size as a Togo's regular but on a skinnier French roll), but I could not finish because everything inside fell out and the salt/possible msg flavor. I gave this place another shot, but I really can't recommend this place for a fulfilling meal. I'm torn between 2 and 3 stars but I will go with 3 since they do give out mango smoothies.

  • Meredith G.

The place is a bit grimy but the food completely made up for it! When you go up to the window they give you a sample of tri tip with cilantro sauce. I'm usually pretty vegetarian but I tried it and it was so great that I got the tri tip sandwich. So worth it! I got the works on it and there was pineapple and so many other things. I highly recommend that! Definitely a place worth trying out!

It's good. Very casual and chill place to have a great sandwich and mango smoothie. The only downer is the bread they use for their sandwiches.. it's not dense enough and gets mushy really fast. Wish they opted for a better quality bread or maybe even toast it so that it doesn't get lost with the other ingredients.

I genuinely dislike giving bad reviews, especially to establishments who serve delicious food, but I've visited Pedros Brazil Cafe twice, and although the food was great during both visits, the service was just horrendous. Yes, I understand that service tends to be slower during peak hours, but the fact the servers had forgotten my friends' orders and tended to and served the other tables their food before my group is just ridiculous. During both visits, my friends and I had ordered the same dishes as the group behind us, and during both visits, it seems as if our orders were put last in their list of priorities. On my first visit, my friends and I were on a tight schedule, and after ordering, paying for, and waiting half an hour for our food, we finally decided to go up to ask about our food. It turned out that they had given another table the same order number as us, and had served another table our orders, thus ignoring the fact that we were still waiting on our food. On my second visit with a different group of friends, we ordered our food, along with a free mango smoothie (after checking in) and sat down outside on the patio. Because it just so happened to be the day of the Milan x Real Madrid game at Berkeley, I couldn't take the bus without waiting in traffic, so I was forced to walk to Pedros for my dinner appointment. I remember being extremely parched after walking in the sun, but after 15 minutes of sitting down, we had yet to receive water. Even after the couple that was standing 3 groups behind us in line had gotten their water and their smoothies, it wasn't until I spoke up and asked for water that they brought it to us. About half an hour after we had received our water, our food and my smoothie were still nowhere in sight. I was getting ready to go inside and ask for our food, when I caught one of the male waiter's gazes and his eyes widened, as if he had forgotten something important and finally remembered. He rushed inside before I had the chance to say anything, and came back out seconds later with our food. I added that we also hadn't received the mango smoothie yet, and he apologized, saying that they had been very busy, and came back with two full-sized glasses of mango smoothies, free of charge. While I appreciate the two free smoothies during our second visit, it did not make up for the wait to receive our food, or the wait to pay for our food. I understand that when the dinner rush hits, it becomes more difficult to provide consistent service, but the fact that my groups and I received the same treatment both times during my two visits here, shows that their service is in need of some major improvement. TL;DR: Great food (tri-tip, cilantro sauce, mango smoothie) and beautiful patio, but AWFUL service.

LOVE THAT GARLIC CILANTRO SAUCE. Gahhhhhh! Shared the tri tip sandwich and the tri tip plate and of course, ordered them mango smoothies (with the Yelp check-in.) Both were pretty darn good. Not sure which I prefer... I like how the tri tip plate has its sides. Except I'm still unclear as to what that grainy powder substance on the plate is... Shall be back! Want to try this at the ghetto looking shack

Food is good but the service was terrible. Someone came out with my companion's tuna sandwich after a long wait. I suspect it was sitting there awhile. I ordered an appetizer that never appeared. Tried to flag down someone to get our check and eventually went up front to pay. Lo and behold, the waitress we hadn't seen for a good half hour was at a table eating lunch. By that time, the patio was deserted except for us. I wouldn't think in Berkeley that racism could have affected this neglect. My co-worker companion was a black male and I am a white female. I see other reviews of bad service. Maybe the waitress simply chooses who to give good service to when she's in a rush. *** Pedro contacted me through Yelp - not his fault on the service so I'm changing this review from three to four stars. The outside seating is awesome and my lunch companion really liked the spread they use on their sandwiches. It has to be hard to hire enough people for the lunch rush but I'm hoping he can find a way.

I haven't had Brazil Cafe in so long! My friend and I had lunch here one Saturday and enjoyed a mango shake after our Yelp! check in. We both ordered the tri-tip rice bowl and really enjoyed it so much we got to take half of it home. Their hot sauce complemented the dish well and gave a nice kick. Service was pretty good and their prices are affordable. I recommend this place!

Very genuine customer service. The owner greeted us and gave free samples to everyone even a free meal to a homeless person.

Service: takes a while to order when there's a long line. Food comes out in like 10-15 minutes. Pedro walks around giving free samples. Super friendly guy. I can hear him swearing jokingly at the cooks HAH! Food: TriTip MUST. Cant go wrong. One of those must gets at Berkeley. Their Chicken Salad Sandwich isn't much. The bread gets soggy fast so if you eat it to go, pack the bread separately. That green sauce is addicting!! So much flavor! But I think the TriTip is the only thing really worth getting. Mango Drink is a plus! Atmosphere: not much seating. Brazilian music blasting. Very cool and tropical decorations! Casual date place.

I really like this new location, especially because of the outdoor seating in the back which is full of lovely flowers! The trip-tip sandwich was mouth-watering delicious. I'd recommend it over the tri-tip bowl which seems to always feel too heavy, with all the creaminess going on. The first bites are good and then the following ones, not so good. Anyway yeah, tri-tip sandwich! Brilliant blend of textures and flavors. A warning to those who can't eat spicy, the tri-tip sandwich has jalapeños in it! Make sure to remove before eating if you don't want a surprise in your mouth! I didn't know this the first time and yeah...

Wow this place is good. We tried to go to the shack down the street but there are only 4 tables and they were all taken, luckily for us there was a sign that said there's an indoor location just 3 blocks away. We semi ran haha, hey we were hungry. Wifey ordered the tri tip sandwich and I grabbed the roast pork. We split a half each. Omg first bite was just magical for both. And we got the free mango smoothie with check in which was also delicious. For the money you're getting a good value here. Fresh baked bread, yummy aioli's and quality meats all made for a delicious sando. What a spectacular find on my Wifey's radar. I'm not going to lie I put it off a couple of times we went to figure out food and this time I finally said you know what let's try it. I was just turned off by the seating and parking arrangements in the area so when we found out there are more locations we were sold. I can't wait to come back, wifey is already talking about getting a rice bowl. I want to try the chicken. Until next time I'm going to just drool about it.

I got the tri-tip plate and my friend got their rice bowl. Overall, no complaints, especially considering that we waltzed in about 15 minutes before they closed and were one of two tables there. Food came to the table very quickly (make sense since they had already served the other table) and everything was pretty damn good. Is it going to blow you away? Probably not. It's solid food, but nothing too fancy. If you're a college student, it might be worth the walk. Keep in mind, however, that there's an equally good shack up University that serves the same stuff. My friend and I decided on the restaurant because it was a bit chilly outside.

Note: some of the photos are NOT of the cafe - they're of the "food stand" that Pedro's owned for many years, just 3 blocks away. This is a sit-down eatery. Prompt and friendly service, authentic roasted pork and traditional Brazilian dishes abound in this small but lively cafe. Be sure to check out the back patio when the weather's nice; you'll find several shaded tables for a quiet meal! If you're new to Brazilian food, Pedro's wife (the manager) or one of the smiling wait staff will be glad to guide you though the menu. You will leave very full.

Outstanding tri tip steak and mango smoothie. Limited vegetarian menu. When I eat here, it's like being back in Rio. Even the architecture is distinctive as a sunny yellow painted shack one block away from gleaming uc Berkeley campus buildings.

This place is great! My sister and I ordered the tri tip plate that comes with rice, cilantro sauce (AMAZING!), bread, beans, and this grainy crunchy powder (not sure what exactly it is). Definitely ask for a side of their cheese (had to ask for it) to put on top of the tri tip. Had a lovely time sitting out back in their patio in the sun. You will definitely leave very full as the portions are really big.

Cute outside dining with delicious food. If you're hungry in Berkeley on a nice warm day this is the place to be! Sit outside and enjoy the beautiful flowers, colorful chairs and great service. Their tri tip is tender and delicious! But it's their cilantro garlic sauce and fresh bread that keeps me coming back! Cilantro sauce is so flavorful, I make sure to smother it on every bite! Their chicken is good too. Make sure you check in and get your mango smoothie, so refreshing- a nice treat on a warm day! I could do without their soju. We had guava, just taste like juice. So if you're looking for a good buzz this won't work for you. Great service, yummy food, generous portions.

We enjoyed the food here. I had the chicken stroganoff, mum had a veggie salad and hubby had a chipotle chicken sandwich- so yummy and dare I say, fatty! Loved the tiramisu and the vibe. the staff was super accommodating and cool. We will be coming back!

Took me 2 years at Cal to finally come to Brazil Cafe, and I wish I had made the trip before! Their tri-tip sandwich is the classic go-to item, and it definitely lives up to its hype. (Also yay for free mango smoothies when you check in!) The wait can be a little bit long at times, and seating can be limited, but the food is worth it!

Exquisite, delicious, authentic, absolutely great food and better price. I was in shock when i saw the tab $26 for me and my girlfriend, and we even took home leftover. I'll be back for sure, no doubt. And btw the service was perfect Diego our server treated us like family. Keep up the good work guys, see you next time.

The last review I wrote on this place was for the booth -- this one's for the sit-down restaurant just two blocks down from the booth. When you first walk in, it feels like stepping out of Berkeley. There's a sense of culture through every sensation; the walls and tables were decorated, loud music was playing, and you can sniff the overall spirit of the place in the air (or the cooking from the kitchen). This time, I ordered the tri tip bowl. One word: UNFORGETTABLE. My mouth is watering as we speak! The tri tip bowl is pretty much like the sandwich minus the messy, watery, drippy element. Plus the bowl has rice, which is much more filling in my opinion. What makes this bowl even more amazing is that mysterious green sauce! I like it better in the bowl because you can choose to either drown your meat in it or just dip it ever so slightly. Overall, I prefer the restaurant over the booth, but that's if you have time. Service is awesome, worth the price, and mouth-watering umami goodness.

Go for the special, you won't regret it. There are just so many layers of flavors in a sandwich its amazing. We ended up ordering a 3rd one to share after we each finished our own. I think that speaks for itself.

I've been here multiple times and only ordered the Pedro's Tri-tip Sandwich. It is pretty delicious. Good amount of meat, right amount of sauce, onions and the pineapples goes well with the sandwich. YUMM Don't forget to check-in on Yelp for a free small mango smoothie!

After a long hike, we were looking for a cool-down smoothie. A quick Google search brought us to this cute little food cart and thank goodness it did. The smoothies were excellent and exactly what we were looking for! Upon arriving, the smell of the food was so incredibly enticing. We already had dinner plans that night, so we decided to come back the next day for lunch. So happy we did. The food was just as tasty as the smoothie. Cute little seating area that can get full during the busy hours. We'd both highly recommend!

  • James O.

Fairly authentic (at least I think, I will admit that I have pretty little previous experience with Brazilian food!) cheap food. My only complaint would be on the level of grease/oil on the food. Would not consider this to be 'clean' eating! (but then, I don't think that is the atmosphere that they are going for). My advice is to sit in the back patio. A beautiful rose garden that really beats eating inside! (plus plenty more space).

I've been here twice. Super dank. That tri-tip bowl is the bomb diggity. Check in on Yelp and you get a free mango smoothie, which is like pure liquified mango gold. Can't beat it. The bowl has this super tasty cilantro sauce which I can't get enough of. You can ask for more if you need any! There are 4 different hot sauces that they have on the tables as well, which are sure to kick your butt - well, at least mine because I don't mess with spicy. Easy to find parking around here, best idea is just to park on MLK and walk over a block if you can't find parking on Uni. Small. homely feel. And contrary to what people think is a $$ restaurant, the bowl is only $9, and that is only $, not $$.

"Nossa, Nossa, assim voce me mata..." The strumming guitars, the gentle accordions, and the distant screams of fangirls back the Brazilian Sertanejo music that accompanies any visit to Pedro's. This storied food stand offers a choice of Brazilian fare, circling around their famous tri-tip sandwiches. Half of the menu offers customizations around the sandwich, with different toppings. But the magic is truly in that special combination of steak and sauce. That's why Pedro (or I assume he's Pedro) is often hanging outside, inviting everyone to try a free sample. Because he knows you'll go for another afterwards. (Although honestly I got a creepy vibe from him.)

2 words: CILANTRO SAUCE. It comes with the tri tip plate. Buy the tri tip plate! They accept credit cards. Minus 1 star because they don't have a bathroom. How can you eat without washing your hands?

PRO + free mango smoothie with yelp check-in + food came quickly + lots of sauces on the table to adjust spiciness level to your liking + utensils and napkins on table so you don't have to keep asking for more napkins, etc. CON - $10 for a tri-tip sandwich or a rice plate is quite pricey FOOD I got the tri-tip rice bowl and I loved it! At first, I was hesitant to mix my bowl because I never had ranch and pesto sauce in my rice bowls before, but it turned out to be delicious! Tri-tip was perfect. Chewy, no fat and not overcooked. The mango smoothie was small but it was free, so no complaints there. I just remembered it being cold and nothing in particular memorable. SERVICE Service was average. We were seated quickly (albeit not many customers at 12:45 PM) and food was delivered quickly. We got a water pitcher and we filled up our water glasses ourself. We did finish the pitcher and it never got refilled but we didn't need more water anyways. OVERALL Would recommend that you try this place at least once! Will definitely be back to try other things on the menu or just to eat the tri-tip rice bowl again.

Brazil Cafe is one of the most talked about and hyped restaurants among Berkeley students. I've visited several times throughout my time in Berkeley and have always been thoroughly satisfied. My most recent visit to this location was great -- food was bomb as usual. I ordered the combo tri-tip/pork plate and it was extremely filling and delicious! Flavors are all on point. Also tried the tri-tip mini tostadas which were also amazing. I got the free mango smoothie upon check in! Woohoo. It's a smaller size than what they normally give, but who cares -- it was free! :) Would've given 5 stars, but the space, although charming, is a bit cramped and service here is on and off. This particular visit, there was only one server who seemed pretty busy. It was difficult to flag him down, and we never received water until I asked at the very end of our meal. Bummer, but not a big deal and definitely not enough to keep me away!

Great service! Amazing food! Good music! Right when my friend and I walked up to the colorfully decorated outdoor cafe, the chef greeted us with free samples of their famous tri tip dipped in cilantro sauce. I immediately knew I had to order some more of that tri tip, so I ordered the Tri Tip Plate, which includes rich, slices of bread, and a side salad. A good tip is if you check in on Yelp, you'll get a free mango smoothie! I really enjoyed this little Brazilian cafe and am genuinely pleased with the quality of the food and the service. Pedro himself was there, talking to his customers, greeting them with free samples, and handing out flyers to introduce his customers to try his new location a few blocks down from University. I would absolutely recommend this place to all my friends and family.

I did not know there was more than one Brazil's cafe but this location has indoor seating as well as back patio seating. I ordered the tri tip salad and checked in to get the free smoothie! The salad was very good. The meat was cooked well and was still tender. It came with lots of onions which I love. The salad dressing that comes with it pairs perfectly. The salad was around $9 and the portion was very generous. My favorite was the smoothie though. It was actually very filling and tasted fresh.

Pedro's is great. There are a couple locations around Berkeley, this one is a dedicated restaurant (the other are stands) on University, with a nice (dog-friendly) patio in the back. The beer selection is decent, too. I usually get a tri-tip or tuna salad. The cilantro sauce on the tri-tip is amazing, and the tuna is always satisfying.

First time tying Brazilian food and it was delish. The morenita plate was so tasty and flavor able. Hit the spot and the dole whip for a follow up was so refreshing. Will def be back when in the area. Oh the cilantro sauce was the best!!!! Who knew I'd love Brazilian food!

This place is soooooo cute! And the food is very tasty as well! Both times that I came I ordered a salad - One Tri Tip and the other Chipotle Chicken. I'm unfortunately not an olive fan but was able to sub the olives for ricotta in the tri tip salad...and I also subbed the ranch dressing for extra cilantro garlic (yup, I'm one of THOSE). The tri tip was a little too chewy for my personal preferences but still really good. As everyone else has said that cilantro garlic sauce is THE SHIT. They should seriously consider selling it, I'd totally buy. The Chipotle chicken salad is good as well. Their chipotle sauce has a little kick to it but not very spicy, chicken is tender and not dry despite the fact that it was all white meat. I added pineapple which complimented the rest of the salad well. My only "problem" with the salads is that I wish there were more of the other ingredients. While I do believe the meat to everything else (besides lettuce in a salad) ratio should be more I still felt the rest of the ingredients weren't evenly distributed so I could get a little of everything in almost every bite. Other than that I still enjoyed both salads a lot. The cheese balls are super delicious too! I was surprised to find that they weren't greasy considering you're eating a ball of cheese with a thing layer of breadding. Great comfort food that doesn't taste too heavy..I could have easily had ten pieces to myself. Passion fruit juice is refreshing and yummy as well. Service is always friendly and pretty laid back but still professional. The out door seating is cute as hell and there are plenty of tables. They even have heat lamps for when it gets cold. Highly recommend this place! Good for groups, and solo dolo food trips!

I could seriously eat here once a week (or more). As far as food choices, I would recommend the Pao De Queijo if you love cheese. Any of their Tri-Tip choices are great as well. Not a fan of their chicken. And I haven't tried anything else. I normally go for their Tri-Tip Salad. Their outdoor seating is great, especially on a nice Bay Area Summer/Fall day. And I've been here multiple times with larger parties, and their servers are so patient and accommodating.

Gotta try anything pork. Wow! If you like a great salad this is a refreshing change. I love the crunchy chicken salad. The appetizers are great too. The mango smoothie will fill you up but it's really great with this crazy heat. Tons of nice out door seating at the location just next to chocolatier blue.

After having this spot bookmarked for who knows how long, I finally got the chance to check it out. I originally went to the outdoor set up but found that there weren't seats available. 3 blocks later, I ended up here. I ordered the Pedro's favorite. It's pretty much a tri tip sandwich on their homemade freshly baked bread with the works. Yum. The bread was so soft and chewy. Tri tip was cooked perfect. The cilantro sauce they use is ridiculously tasty. What a combination. I also tried the roast pork sandwich which was also good...but I really enjoyed the combination of flavors such as pineapple, jalapeños, and tomatoes from the fave. I checked in and got a mango smoothie on the house. It was a perfect addition to my meal. For $20, I thought our sandwiches were worth every bite. Such a fan...maybe I'll stop by for dinner tonight? Haha.

Brazilians cook their meats so well. Brazil Cafe is one of my go-to spots for lunch and dinner. Their portions are generous and their dishes are delicious. I usually order the Morena dish, which is pretty much tri-tip steak with a side of rice and beans. Their green sauce makes everything all the more delicious. The actual restaurant isn't particularly spacious on the inside, but their back patio area has plenty more seating and is absolutely beautiful if you go during the right day and hour. Their service isn't particularly amazing, but they can get away with that since their food is so good. One added benefit of being a Yelp user here is that you get a free cup of their mango smoothie every time you check-in. The smoothie is refreshing and the best part is that it's free! One last thing... Cheese Balls. That is all.

#35 OOOMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGG!!! Yes, you get it, I really LOVE this place. I was out and about near campus and was really hungry. I have had SO many people recommend Pedro's Brazil Cafe through the many years I have spent in Berkeley, so it seemed like time to try... Upon approach, there were many people in the semi-long line standing along the sidewalk waiting area. Some had ordered, some were deciding and some were waiting to order. I know many people who are somewhat egregious concerning long lines anywhere, much less food places. NOT ME! I believe this is generally a tell tale sign that the food is worth the wait. So, regardless of the broken foot situation, I wanted to try and stand in this line so I could partake of the Berkley legend of "Pedro." I finally receive me turn to order. The guy behind the counter was taking orders rather furiously, as they were so busy for an afternoon--especially while school is out for winter break. Even though he was busy and focused, he took the time to tell me about the food. I can only assume at this point, that THE Pedro overheard our conversation and came out with samples for all the hungry people waiting in line. He began explaining the dishes, the sauces, the traditional choices and the love that this place applies to every order. WOOOOOW!!! The place is a tiny little stand, sort of like a food truck, but without the wheels. The only seating available is the outside area around the corner of the freestanding domicile, about three or four plastic tables. I grabbed a table with a friend and we waited for the yummies to begin. A friendly service professional came and offered us napkins and asked did we need anything else while we await our deliciousness... Then, the food arrives... This was my lucky day! Ever since I introduced chicken to my diet I have tried to find the best chicken everywhere. I might have found my soul mate--the grilled chicken sandwich! This delicacy is served on sourdough bread, with fresh lettuce topping--but let me tell you about the "good" stuff inside. The chicken is grilled to ABSOLUTE PERFECTION! Pedro's adds grilled onions, peppers and this super secret sauce that will blow your mind, as it did mine. Yes, it is messy, but it was really worth it. I was so full simply from one half of the chicken sandwich. I am not one to eat leftovers, usually; however, this is totally exception worthy. I took it to go. I will return, and I will make sure I return after an intense class so that I am totally hungry, totally stressed and totally needing some comfort food because I now know that Pedro's will fill my tummy, calm my nerves and send me on my way with a smile :) Stephani Smiles for Pedro's Brazil Cafe ;)

I went here for dinner with a few friends this month and I shared a tri tip sandwich. It was pretty tasty, but the ingredients seemed simple and easy enough to recreate at home for a way cheaper price. I was glad the ranch was off to the side on our plate because I wasn't expecting it to be included and don't like ranch. My other friends got the tri tip bowl and said that the garlic/cilantro sauce and ranch was too much and too creamy. But the good thing was that the sauces were presented in just one section of the dish so that they could adjust the levels of "sauciness." (And we didn't realise that we could've done that until we mixed everything and took a few bites...it got overwhelming). I tried the rice and it was cooked perfectl. It had a great taste with just a smidge of the garlic sauce! I would get the tri tip bowl of I were to come back. Be sure to check in for the free small mango smoothie! It tastes very natural and was one of the best drinks I had in Berkeley - especially on a hot day!

They do not give us a free smoothie in our first purchase, and they do not even offer it to us (we had to buy it). The sandwich came with things that we didn't ask for, they were not paying attention to us. It's not like a Brazilian food. Just an expensive sandwich, and not taste that good! Se Voce é brasileiro e está com saudades de comida brasileira não perca seu tempo nem dinheiro!

I love eating outside on the patio!! Highly recommend coming for happy hour (4-6pm). You must order the tri-tip tostadas (2). Comes with a GIANT heap of tri-tip on a perfectly thin crusty shell. Definitely worth it for the price!

This place serves plates of heaven! The tritip plate had a delicious cilantro garlic sauce, salad, and tritip on a bed of rice. I enjoyed every bit of it with the hot sauce provided. We also reaped the yelp checkin benefit. The mango smoothie was bomb. Also, the decor made for a very lax and inviting atmosphere. I'll surely be back! As far as service goes, our food came out quickly. However, it seemed like they were understaffed. We asked for water and it wasn't until the third reminder that our server brought us some. Even then, I'll be back for more grub. On a sun shiny day, one can enjoy the beautiful patio seating area!!

A bit pricey, but the tri-tip was excellent. So flavorful and yummy. I got the plate, and my friend got the salad, which I would try next time because it's massive and comes with jalapeños. My only sadness is the wings take 20 minutes, which I'm sure means they are amazing but we were just stopping in and didn't have time to try them.

This place is perfect! Good service. Best food ever! I come here all the time. I live in concord, so yeah i have to drive all the way to get this. If there is a Pedro Brazil Cafe in concord... I would even apply to work there. Its that good. Good job guys you know how to serve excellent food and a good price.

The Acai here is great, but that's just the beginning! Any and all of the smoothies I have tried here are awesome and made on the spot. The Acai is just the right texture, not too sweet, but definitely not bland by any means. For a while Acai was the only thing I would get here until the fateful day I decided to get the tri-tip sandwich and angels sang at my first bite. WOW. Very impressed. and that sauce tho! Pedro, the charismatic owner is usually standing around greeting people and offering samples ( he gave me a sample of the tri tip and thats how I ended up getting the sandwich. the rest is history). The stand itself is really interesting to look at. It is on the corner of a parking lot fully decked out with Brazilian flags AND they have a patio on the side. Driving by it looks like they just set up shop, but they have been there for years. Walking up to it actually reminds me of some of the stands in Brazil, except this is a much nicer operation. Definitely do yourself a favor and get the tri tip sandwich and the Acai (preferably on a really hot day) because its much cheaper than an actual trip to Brazil.

Still waiting to be approached for what I want to order. Been waiting for ten minutes already. No help. Been at the table and the waiter passed me five times already. Also. I ordered two sandwiches and he only came back with one. I'm not gonna bother talking or making eye contact at all with this guy anymore. Smh. Waste of time. Don't care how good the food is. You get one star.

First time I ever had Brazilian and it was an amazing experience. Service: The staff was very friendly, informative, and attentive. No complaints there. Food: Tri-Tip sandwich - The meat was perfectly marinated. The onions and peppers was cooked very well. The bread was nicely toasted, but got soggy after a while. Chicken Wings - My least favorite of the dish, but still very tasty nonetheless. The chicken was tender and flavorful. But I guess I was expecting a little more texture, a satisfying bite. Stroganoff - Very different from the stroganoff that I'm used to, but it was delicious! It was slightly tangy, but saucy. The rice and crispy little things that went with it was a perfect compliment to the dish. I would highly recommend this! Mango Lassi - This was free with a Yelp check-in and man was it delicious! Just the right amount of sweetness and nice refreshing taste of mangos. Overall: I would definitely recommend trying this place!

It's a cute little place that didn't seem like it would be great, but the Yelp pictures made it look super delicious. I had the Tri Tip Platter with added pork to make it a combo. I loved the salad. It was just the way I like it, just enough salad dressing to make it wet but not soggy while being crispy/crunchy. The tri tip was amazing. It was moist and the flavor was super good with the green sauce they had. I paired it with the green sauce and the dollop of white sauce in the middle. I wish I knew what they're called exactly, because that combination was the best thing I've ever eaten in Berkeley so far. I didn't eat the rice but everything else wasn't too heavy at all. Fresh ingredients and friendly service. A definite come back is on the back burner already. Can't wait to try all of their menu!

INTRO: I LOVE Berkeley! I love it how you just park your car on a Sunday - and be able to walk and find many places to eat... and there's so many options... I want to try it all!! (crys!) Here are some highlights: (1) Service: greeted by a cute little girl - she's so happy! Seated us, and gave us menus. (2) FYI, DON'T FORGET TO CHECK IN on YELP! FREE MANGO DRINK! (Do I have to say it any louder? Yeps! Free mangooooo drink! Very much enjoy my free stuff, tehe!) (3) Tri Tip Sandwich - Love the sauce they drench into it... That's a whole day at the gym right there... (4) Pull Pork Sandwich - there's too much flavors... I'm so confused! The pull pork... then the sauce drenched ... ah! I love it still (5) I very much enjoy the food, maybe if I was craving it I'll come back... back $10 sandwich is too pricey for me... BUT, hey - it is tri-tip and pull pork... (yums!) **OVERALL: FREE MANGO DRINK - just check in on YELP!

One of my favorite places to eat at Berkeley! The rose garden is also really pretty to eat at when the weather is nice (cute date spot!). You can never go wrong with the tritip plate but if you're trying to cut down a little bit, the tritip bowl (smaller portion) is just as great. Don't forget to check in on yelp for a free mango smoothie!

One of the 'MUST TRY' places in Berkeley. From the stand alone shack on the Mike's Bikes parking lot or to the new locations on University ave or the Westbrae Biergarten on Gilman, this place never disappoints. I found myself going at least once a week, stocking up on those free mango smoothie cards, while attending Cal. Being an east bay native, it's amazing to see how well Brazil Cafe has lasted the constant change of Berkeley over the years. I hope it stays for a long time. My go to is 'Pedro's favorite' and mango smoothie. Can't beat their tri-tip sandwich with their cilantro garlic sauce... AMAZING! If you're eating at their cafe location, you have to get their Pao de Queijo (baked cheese puffs). One of the best small plates I've tasted ever!

    (5)
  • Paul C.

Can't stop, won't stop eating the tri-tip plate. The cheese bread is really good too. The service can sometimes be whack but the food overcompensates for it

Their Tri Tip Rice Bowl was so good! I was never a big fan of mayo, but when I mixed it into the bowl along with their cilantro sauce, I definitely ate the entire thing clean. Also, make sure you check in on yelp as you can get a free mango drink! (which I thought was subpar, but hey, it's free!)

After hearing great things about this place, I decided to try their Tri-Tip Plate and mango smoothie (free with check-in!). Prices were reasonable but not cheap. The Tri-Tip Plate was $13 including tax. The plate comes with grilled tri-tip with onions, rice, bread, and a salad. The sauce with the tri-tip was pretty good as well. I'm not sure if this is how they cook it normally but I thought the tri-tip was a bit overcooked. Flavor-wise, it was pretty good. The service, however, was the reason why I docked off a star. I had called 30 minutes prior to request for a to-go order because I was on a time crunch. When I had arrived, I was told that even though I called in, they didn't actually take the order down. (What???) I was appalled but since I was already there, I decided to wait. Even though it was relatively empty, I ended up having to wait 15 minutes for my order. When I received it, they had forgotten my free mango smoothie so I had to request for it again. Overall, food was good but service was lacking. The staff wasn't very friendly and the fact that I had called in a to-go order and they decided to not write it down was ridiculous. They even said they remember me calling in.. but didn't write it down. What's the point of calling in for to-go orders? Sadly, based on that experience, I will probably not be returning.

One of my top favorite places in the Bay Area. The tri-tip plate is very tasty. It comes with salad, rice, avocado slices, sour dough bread, sour cream and their special green sauce. I definitely inhaled this whole plate in the quickness!

This place is right across the street from the UC Berkeley Extension class I was taking and it is amazing! I got the tri tip salad which is a ginormous flavorful and filling meal. I got the mango smoothie too which wasn't too great but the meal made up for it. I feel like I should have eaten here every day instead of exploring. So...good! Mixture of chunks of trip tip with lettuce, pineapple, olives, etc....it sounds weird but it was a party in my mouth. Definitely come try this place out.

As a foodie who goes out of his way to try new food places, I have to say that this is one of Berkeley's best restaurant options. I would highly recommend if you're in the area, a UCB student, or a UCB student showing some buddies around the area (I've taken several parties of friends here and to the food stand and they all love it). **FOOD** I've become a regular of Pedro's Favorite, the tri-tip plate, and the Mediterranean plate. The meat is always soft, tender, and tasty. The bread is always well fluffed. They are liberal with their salad portions. And to top it off, the cilantro lime sauce is supreme. I've been here at least 12 times throughout my Berkeley life and the portions and quality are always consistently phenomenal. **SERVICE** You know a shop is legit when the store owner doesn't just stay behind the counter doing business, but rather stands around and talks to every customer that walks by with a smile and a coupon. If I were to have a Brazilian uncle, I'd want him. My experience with the country and people of Brazil is so limited, but if all Brazilians are like Pedro, book me a ticket and let's go kick it Rio De Janeiro and play some futbol. The only slight con about service is that the food sometimes takes a little while to come out. **BONUS** Check in on Yelp! and you got a free Mango smoothie. Not like the best smoothie you'll ever have, but it's tasty and hits the spot on a hot Berkeley day. Perfect amount for a lunch meal too! **EXTRA BONUS** If you go to the shop (not the food stand), there's a very cute rose garden where you can eat and chat outside. Plenty of seating throughout the area. I took my girlfriend here before a study session, and it makes a very great casual lunch date place. She loved it. **EXTRA EXTRA BONUS** I don't want to hype it up that much b/c it's not THAT amazing, but.. order the Guarana. It's not like some mind-blowing drink, but it's somewhat rare to find (I only find it here and at Brazilian BBQ places). It's pretty much an acai soda. Again, not super hype, but realize you're drinking a hard-to-find Brazilian fountain drink that goes perfectly with your meal.

Got Pedro's combo plate with steak and carnitas, and a mango smoothie. The carnitas were a bit salty but had great flavor. My bf loves the cilantro sauce, we basically mixed it into everything. Oh yea and the mango smoothie was bomb.com

Cheese puffs - so yummy! sorta mochi like in texture but very good. Only come with like 5 and some cilantro dipping sauce. Try it! Tri Tip Plate - Has the best of everything, from a side salad, to rice, to bread, tritip, onions, sauce and cheese on top too! If you want something on the smaller side, a tritip sandwich or rice bowl will do too! Definitely a place to try when you come to berkeley! Check in on yelp to sometimes get free mango smoothie!

Bad service. The orders are small and I struggled to find the "Brasilian taste" on what I had. At least they have brigadeiro and guaraná.

My go-to spot for lunch! I've frequented their little stand further up the street for years now, and was excited they opened a brick and mortar shop within walking distance of my office. It's summertime right now, so since folks are on vacation I've never had to wait long for a table or my food when I go for lunch at noon. Their menu is set up so you can essentially choose your meat (or veggies), and choose how you want it: sandwich, salad, or rice plate. If you're smart, you'll go for their famous tri-tip. I've been a huge fan of their tri-tip sandwich, but always found it extremely messy to eat, so I was glad to see the tri-tip salad on the menu (because really, the only way to eat a salad is if it's covered in meat and 2809850928028 fixins). For about $9, you get a huge salad with a very generous portion of tri-tip, pineapples, olives, jalapenos, croutons, onions, carrots, corn, and their super tasty cilantro sauce. Super filling, super tasty, every time.

Bottom line at the top: snuck in for some good late night pao de queijo and brigadeiros! -- Yum! Got some PDQ on a whim and brigadeiros. I've always thought brigadeiros were chocolate truffles but here we were served two shot glasses of something similar (or maybe it was) dulce de leche with a little bit of chocolate and sprinkles. They jam Brazilian funk music and are super nice!

Great food! I had the vegetarian bowl and cheese puffs. Don't forget to check-in because you get a free mango smoothie. The service could have been better, it took a while to get our food, but they made up for it by giving us the cheese puffs for free.

  • Xin W.

Yummm! Their tri-tip sandwich tastes amazing! I sometimes even dream about it ... yes it's that good! It's flavorful, its savory, its rich, very generous amount, a little pricey, but it's worth every penny! We went on a Monday night, no wait and super fast service! No parking though, but since when is there ever parking on University Ave? My friends tried the mango smoothie and loved it, so I would be definitely getting that next time

Love Love Love this place. I have taken many of my peers here to try it an it is always a must try for when family and friends come from out of state. Many have never even seen this place. it looks like a little club house right off the street. The owners are awesome people, always welcoming. Food is AMAZING. try anything! they always have samples to offer, let them know you have never tried and they will take care of you. They always got the jams playing too, makes you feel like your in Brazil!

You know a place deserves 5-stars when your salivary glands activate as you begin to type out a Yelp review for it. Lunch here last Saturday could not have been any better! It was a beautiful, sunny day, and my friend and I actually found parking on busy University. Most of the tables inside were already taken, but we just placed our order at the front register and made our way to the back. Props to Joseph, by the way, for giving off a really friendly, cheerful vibe. There's nothing worse than walking into a restaurant where the people there just seem to loathe their lives; it really kills the whole dining experience. Anyway, I thought I was one of the rare human beings outside of Regular Show who liked to use the word "solid," so I was pleasantly surprised when he chose to employ that particular adjective to describe how his day was going so far. Right on, Broseph! Here's what we got: Friend - Pedro's Tri-tip Sandwich (Served on a French Roll with ricotta cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, jalapenos, olives, and pineapple) - $9.50 Me - Tri-tip Rice Bowl (Served over rice with cheese, ricotta, grilled onions, and bread) - $9.95 Guarana Brazilian Soda - $2.50 & 2 Free Mango Smoothies (Yay for Yelp Check-In deals!) I love how colorful the chairs for this place are, and how they contrast with the chairs for Slow's customers next door (totally different aesthetics). There are some tables for two, and also some picnic bench style seating for a more communal experience/larger groups. On a really hot day I might take issue with the fact that the umbrellas don't provide enough shade to cover all of the tables, but last Saturday wasn't so bad, and my friend and I also managed to find a table for two that was covered. I noticed that they have some large heat lamps so I'd definitely love to come back here for dinner on a summer night! Our mango smoothies came out within a few minutes, and then our food orders promptly followed. I love mango lassis, but I think that the mango smoothies here are way more refreshing since it's pretty much just mango and finely crushed ice. Moreover, you don't have to try too hard when you take sips, haha. I didn't drink the Brazilian soda because the smoothie was more than enough, but when I do give it a try, I will make sure to update this. I was a little wary of this place because one review I read said that the tri-tip was like really bad bulgogi. I feel bad that that particular reviewer felt that way and had a bad experience, but that was absolutely not how I felt. The blend of well-seasoned chunks of tri-tip, grilled onions, ricotta, and cilantro dressing, all over al-dente parboiled rice, was just SO good. The rice bowl is a good size and I reached just the right level of "fullness" when I polished off the last bite. What do I mean by that? Well, while I definitely didn't feel hungry, I also didn't feel as if I would split the seams of my dress if I took another breath of air. Like Goldilocks once said, "Just right!" Great atmosphere, great food, great service. I will most definitely be back!

I don't even know where to start w this place! After a long hike at Nimitz Trail, my friend suggested that we should grab food from this place called "Pedro's Brazilian Cafe". At first I was hesitant because I know there's limited option for a vegetarian at a Brazilian place. But I went ahead and decided to give it a try. When we got there, perfect timing, there's a parking right in front and they weren't pack at all. We looked at the menu and I was torn between the veggie bowl or the spicy tuna salad. I ended up getting the spicy tuna salad and oh my goodness it was amazing!! The serving was so huge two people can share it! It has a lot of greens and the tuna... It's a big chunk of tuna heaven!! I actually needed more greens for my tuna! It's rich in flavor and the level of spice is perfect! I was so happy w my food and my friends were too! Definitely coming back to this place and I encourage you if you're in the area, you have to make a pit stop!!

Oh my good. This place is a must. Wonderful and delicious good which was to die for. My gf and I had the special Tri-Tip plate mixed with Chicken and rice, salad with corn and couldn't be more happier. The tables was a bit short, not enough space for wait staff to place the food on the table. Our friend had the Tri-Tip sandwich was great too as well.

As a vegetarian I've never been able to eat Brazilian food, and I was finally able to. It's a cute stop right by the Berkeley campus and the food is great. I had a mango smoothie (check in to get it free!) and the veggie rice bowl. It had grilled vegetables (broccoli corn onions and peppers) rice, black beans, and two sauces (green and white). The sauces add a new flavor to the simple ingredients and the vegetables were roasted to perfection. Be careful when you take it out, even though they wrapped it, it still leaked a bit. Nevertheless it is great and next time I'm in Berkeley I will definitely visit again!

Use a napkin, heck, make it into a bib because your tri-tip sandwich is gonna be dripping with deliciousness. They've mastered the savory + sweet combo in their tri-tip sandwich and tri-tip salad. The sauce is amazing. And the pineapples just make it. The hubby and I once tried to bring these sandwiches in for dinner and a movie at a-what-will-remained-unnamed movie theater. It was pretty hard to be discreet because the savory smells of the tri-tip were very strong. If you're gluten-free, you can ask for the innards over a salad, hold the croutons.

Craving amazing tri-tip from a locale that is away from the over-beaten path of formal dining without sacrificing quality and exquisiteness--oh and also keeps your wallet pretty full? Then head over to the end of University Ave. and learn why this little shack is the best way to enjoy a little sun and the whisper of tropical days in Rio, the experience sweetened with Pedro himself more often than not standing out front and offering samples to passerby of the infamous tri-tip The tri-tip sandwich is definitely a classic and will satiate any craving, but if you are like me and would rather sacrifice that carbohydrate load for a bit more diversity in flavor, then go with my favorite: Pedro's amazing cilantro-sauce smothered Tri-Tip Salad. Lettuce, avocado, pineapple, corn, carrots, jalapeños, caramelized onions, a few slices of airy white bread, and of course crowned by big pile of delicious and juicy tri-tip. What more could a girl ask for? If you are in Berkeley and it happens to be a nice sunny day, then head on over--and even if it is a cold rainy day, head down University away from the university to their indoor location!

The food is pretty good here , I tried the Pedro's favorite and the chicken plate . Both were satisfying, although I wish they would toast the breads . Service here kinda sucks , very slow . But then again you get a free small mango smoothie when you check in , which kind of makes up for the mediocre service .

This was the first time I've been to Brazil Café, and I was blown away! The manager is really nice and offered samples of anything I wanted, whether it was tri tip or their fresh mango smoothies. I ordered a sandwich, and their cilantro sauce was AMAZING and really made the meal. It was the right mixture of tangy and savory. Ambience was great. MUST check out when you're walking down University!

I crave this place as soon as I leave it every time!! The only reason for only 4 stars is the service is a little slow, they probably need a bigger kitchen and more staff, the wait to get our food was kind of long. They are all very friendly though and I know the server was doing her best but she needs some backup! Both the bf and I ordered the tri tip sandwich and shared pao de queijo.. to die for!! Everything was delicious!! Tri tip sandwich comes with a good amount of meat and the pineapple, jalapeños, olives and cilantro sauce just add to the amazing flavor. Warning, the pao de queijo takes kind of long to make but it's worth it! I even got another order to go and finished half of it in the car ride home, lol. I already want to go back... damnit writing this review on an empty stomach was not a good idea...

I mean, I really like this place coz the taste is good. But I was so mad when I got into this place today. I sat down for at least 10min and nobody gave a damn about me. There were not that many people. Just two tables when I got one. I don't know where did the server went. And then, I saw people started to come in and went to the cashier to order directly. So I did the same. But she informed me that only take-outs can be ordered there. So I came back waited for 10 more min. She finally came after I waving couple of times to her. But when she served us, she seemed really mad. I mean; what is the problem??!!!! Don't get me wrong, the food is good. But the service... Meh... Last time I went there, the servers are good. Not sure what happened.

Came here on a Friday night with my boyfriend and it was absolutely great. We've been to the other location where you order outside from a booth and eat outside but this time we decided to come to the restaurant location. Once walking in, it's a cute little restaurant with a couple table and booths that you can choose to sit any where you please. The menu has so many options you can choose from with a variety of salads, rice plates, rice bowls, and dessert options. We ended up getting the steak plate which comes with salad, rice, steak, and the greatest cilantro green sauce you'll ever have in your life. I feel like the cilantro sauce makes the whole experience 100 times better.

Love Brazilian food and some of the best Brazilian places are over the bay bridge in the east bay. My tri tip plate was amazing! I had some black beans that were so delicious. My BF & BFF we really enjoyed being able to eat outdoors. Space was a little tight but we all enjoyed it!

I have gone to the Brazil Cafe hut at the corner of Oxford and University, next to the UC Berkeley campus. The tri tip sandwiches are extremely flavorful. At the hut, there are only a handful of chairs, so it is mostly designed for take out food. I would definitely recommend this place!

The food here is great, and the environment is very nice. I've been here a couple times and plan to return. The negative thing is that their service is kinda slow. The first time I went there, it took a long while for the server to come to our table; this was not an issue the second time. Both times I went there, they were quick to bring out the food, but also were a bit absent during the meal and took a long time to bring us our bill and process our payment. Both times, I ended up going to the front to sign our card or get our change. This place is pretty awesome and has delicious food, but they really gotta speed up their service. Still, it's totally worth going.

I've been the Brazil cafe kiosk near the UC Berkeley campus; I got the tri-tip sandwich ("Pedro's favorite") and it was great. I was optimistic that the plated meals at the cafe location would be equally good but I was disappointed. My wife ordered the veggie hot plate; it was adequate but the serving of vegetables was small and nothing really stood out as particularly good aside from the garlic cilantro sauce. I got the roasted pork hot plate; same situation as my wife although the portion of pork was more generous than what my wife got in terms of veggies...odd that they were the same price. I'd still stop by if I was craving tri-tip sandwich but don't think I'd come here for anything else.

Had a Tri tip sandwich with avocado. Beef is good and cilantro sauce has great taste. However i found it rather small for a 9$ meal. Bread is not very good either. Nice ambiance but could get better

A little bummed about the service. This is hands-down one of my favorite places in Berkeley and the owner is awesome but the guys that work there are not very nice or friendly. I use to go here all the time before I moved out of Berkeley, so I was very excited to return and bring my family here for the first time... but the guy at the window was so unfriendly- I tipped him anyway hoping after he saw me shove a $10 bill in his tip jar he'd at least smile or say thank you- but nothing. He just coldly said here- and slid us our number. Disappointing but the food is so good, maybe he was just having a bad day but it still sucked for us and kinda ruined the experience and excitement.

Im sorry im not try to complain but this is not brazilian food! Im Brazilian and i can tell you! It's not bad but not the same at all! The rice is far from being brazilian style! They. Combine mexican with brazilian... second time i eat at a brazilian restaurant in california and get the same vibe! Mexican version :)

The cilantro lime sauce itself earns this place 5 stars. I really enjoy the tri-tip and rice here rather than the "usual favorite", which is the sandwich. I sure will miss this place now that I don't live in Berkeley anymore.

This was my first time to Berkeley California and there are a lot of great choices for restaurants to eat at, but I poked my head in this low-key Brazilian place and the staff were so hospitable and friendly, and the sample they gave me was wonderful, so I decided to get a plate. I ordered steak with rice and vegetables and a sauce made from garlic mayo and cilantro. I sat on the back patio next to a rose garden and enjoyed the late afternoon sun. The food was very reasonably priced and they gave me a large portion, and perhaps most importantly it was delicious.

Ridiculous prices for what it is. 10 dollars for a Tri Tip sandwich? Long wait for what seemed like a hastily made sandwich. I went here with a couple of friends who say it has gone downhill recently.

It's refreshing to see a Brazilian place in the area. Pedro's is a great lunch destination, either for something quick or a sit-down meal. Ambiance: The place is casual and decorated with various Brazilian images/things. Definitely laid back. Food: I've had the tri-tip plate, the pao de queijo (cheese bread), and the tri-tip salad. I would recommend all of the dishes. Perfect blend between healthy and tasty. Service: The staff is friendly, smiley, and the food doesn't take too long. You can either sit down for service, order takeout, or order at the location. Pro-tip: They have coupons available for a free mango drink. You might be able to get one ;) Overall, I'd go to Pedro's again for a lunch meal. Also a great place to introduce a friend to Brazilian cuisine.

Excellent tri-tip! It doesn't seem grilled like typical American-fare barbecue, but braised in delicious marinade. I highly recommend either the Tri-Tip plate or the tri-tip sandwich, with plenty of their green cilantro sauce. I believe the sauce really makes the experience, as the creamy flavor with the slight cilantro kick perfectly complements the savory tri-tip. They also have a grab and go location a few blocks up the street if you're in a hurry, but you get a free mango smoothie if you check in to this location.

Brazil Cafe has a cool sitdown location here. (especially the patio in back) there's a few tables in the front too. eats: tri tip sandwich(9) -tender pieces tri tip w/onions, tomato, pineapple, cilantro, sauce. in a sourdough bun. -tri tip wasn't extraordinary, the combination of ingredients was yummy. mango smoothie (gratis) -tasted natural, not from syrup, refreshing. crumbs: -only eatery on this block opened on sunday. -last sunday closed at 4, though hours posted as closing at 9, -parking hard to find in this area. -will peruse menu for more interesting eats.

Great Brazilian food. Prices are a bit hefty since it's a specialty food. However, it's a must-try for anyone who just wants to experience Brazilian food at a casual setting. Most Brazilian-interest restaurants try to be super fancy, and if they fail to come to expectations, it falls miserable down. In Pedros, it's a branch off to their first location, which is a corner "food truck" style cafe. I would prefer this restaurant location because there is more seats and it delivers a better dining experience than the one on the corner. I'd say this place is okay because I'm not too big for Brazilian food, it's just okay.

Hole in the wall, but excellent food. Came here hangry, and it was just the ticket being me back to sanity. The meat was awesome, and somehow, the weird side salad was really tasty. The green sauce: don't even bother eating here if you're not willing to use it. Super quick service and really tasty. Definitely coming back. The good: all the food. The bad: just a wee drafty b the door. Sit to either side.

QUESTION to the people that have been here. Is this a good location to a have a sit down with my girlfriends parents to ask them for her hand in marriage?

This tritip meat, drenched in a delicious garlic sauce has exploded my universe. Yes, I judge all who dare criticize this Brazilian godsend. It is incredible, with powers to sway even the most ardent of vegetarians. I drool as I reconstruct in my mind the beautiful shape, smell and texture of sandwich that changed my life.

Most of the stars are for the food which was delish! I had the tritip plate that came with this amazing cilantro aioli. There was only one server for the whole place, which began to get busier after we got there. So that made it hard to get her attention. I could tell she was stretched thin so I'm not gonna hate. Their mango smoothie is super yum too! Will def come back here!!!

I was incredibly impressed not just with the food but with how friendly and genuine the staff was. Everyone was completely happy to answer questions or suggest items. Order the mango drinks!

After visiting the first establishment, the tiny colorful shack on University, I was hooked. I have been to every location, since Pedro keeps growing and moving, yet the quality remains the same. I always recommend this eatery to friends. Pedro's special is one of the most delicious sandwiches I have every tasted. I don't usually eat beef, but when I do, it better be worth it. The cilantro sauce really makes the dishes special, as with the variety of hot sauces available. Cheese bread is good too!

LOVE THIS PLACE! This is always a great place to go when you are craving good food. Tri-tip plate with Cilantro sauce all day...and the mango smoothie is awesome!

  • Danny C.

Service is slow here. That's a legit complaint, but the food is ridonk. Pedro's Fav is obviously always a good choice, but if you want a tri-tip bowl or Obama's Fav, I say go right ahead and do it. Wash it down with a cold mango smoothie that you can get for free with a Yelp check-in. Honestly, though, their sauce is pretty amazing. It just takes forever to get the stuff out. Cheap, but not dirt cheap, for what you get.

This is the first place I ate at when I first arrived in San Francisco. I am not originally from the area. My boyfriend's sister who lives in the area highly recommended this place to us. It is basically a shack at the corner of the street with only a few outdoor seatings available. I probably would have just walked past this place if I was by myself. This place is famous for their Brazilian Steak. My boyfriend's sister recommended the Tri-Tip Hot Plate, which we got along with the Tri-Tip Combo plate. The combo came with both chicken and steak. Both were very delicious. The meats were tender and flavorful. The plates came with a side of salad, three slices of bread, and a unique green sauce (garlic cilantro sauce) I would recommend checking this place out if in the area. The owner was friendly and was giving out samples to try before ordering.

I LOVE this place. Their cilantro sauce is amazing, I love to get the Tri-tip Sandwich or the Tri-Tip Salad. Their Tri-Tip is amazing and with the cilantro sauce, it's even better. Also, the sandwich or salad with pineapples is amazing! This place is just amazing and you HAVE TO try it out.

Finally tried the new location last night! I've had the tri-tip sandwich twice in the past and enjoyed it but I think I'm going to have to go with the plate from now on. You get to taste more things (beans, rice, meat, sauce, bread, farofa) and will most likely have leftovers to bring home. Our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. She told us about the farofa and gave us some good recommendations. I still want to check out the outside patio and will definitely be coming back soon!

  • Todd L.

Excellent atmosphere (especially around the World Cup) and those that are participating in the food and fun are awesome! Food tastes great and was full of flavor but I thought it was a little pricey. I wouldn't say it was a good value but fair when you include the atmosphere and the entire package. I will come back, but probably as not as much as I would hope. Definitely would recommend for groups who are looking for a beer garden atmosphere!

WOW!!! The pulled pork sandwich was amazing!! I wish they were closer to me but I guess it;s better that way, otherwise I would eat it everyday. It's a small place but they also have patio seating. With a yelp check-in, you get a free mango smoothie. I went with a friend and they were nice enough to split it into two glasses. Cool. I've been to Brazil and next time I will def try the feijoada since it was my fav dish to eat while I was there. But since I love pork, I had to eat the pulled pork. It comes with a nice cilantro dressing and contrasted nicely with the sandwich. The bread was so good too, I think it was on a hoagie like bread. We also ordered the cheese balls! Must get with your meal..fresh baked to order. Nice cilantro dip to go along with it.

When you come to this side of Berkeley, check in to this spot and you'll get a free mango smoothie. I met Pedro himself and very nice guy. He had so much passion with his food and his loyal costumers. He had also invited my friends and I to his 3rd location on Westbrae Biergarten 1280 Gilman Street. Go check it out.

Get the Pedro's Tri Tip sandwich! Wonderful combination of flavors and the pineapple adds a great hint of sweet with the jalapeños. Also, don't forget the free mango smoothie ^^

Awesome guy Pedro really approachable. Has great food too had the Tri tip Sammy. Pineapples were the perfect addition to the sweet/spicy/savory ness of it all. Heard the mango smoothies are delicious wanna try the plates as well. Next time tho!

Went here with my mom and aunt. We ordered the cheese balls as an appetizer, the tri tip rice bowl, the crunchy tuna salad, and the chiptle chicken salad. Everything was delicious!! The sauces were especially good - the cilantro dip for the cheese balls and the chipotle aoili for the chicken salad were rich and flavorful. Portions are huge so sharing would be possible. I took home half my salad. The cheese balls came out last, which was a little awkward since we ordered them as an appetizer but they tasted so good it didn't really matter. Everything was light (not greasy or too oily) but filling. Would definitely visit again and recommend this place to others!

I was really craving pao de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread), so I walked over to Brazil Fresh Squeeze Cafe food truck. The woman informed me that they don't sell that at the truck, but told me to walk 2 blocks down the street to their new store location. The restaurant was very clean and I liked that they had an open kitchen. I got 1 order to-go - the service was friendly and fast, and I got my food within 5 minutes. The pao de queijo was also pretty good, though not the best I've had. However, for the convenience and price, I would definitely recommend it. I hope to come back to Brazil Cafe for a sit-down meal, since it seems like a nice environment to dine in.

The food is delicious. Very flavorful. My daughter and I were walking looking for some place to eat. We were going for thai food, but the aroma of the cuisine in Pedro's permeated my nasal passages.lol I had the tri tip plate. The meat was tender and flavorful. I love the garlic cilatro sauce. it tastes good on everything. This place is a little jewel

As someone who was born and raised in Brazil, I really take offense to people calling this "authentic" and a great way to introduce others to "brazilian" cuisine. First red flag = there is not one single Brazilian in site. I tried talking to the cook in Portuguese and it turns out he's Mexican. So I thought to myself..Maybe the owner taught them how to properly cook a Brazilian plate. I ordered the Tri Tip plate. Very flavorless, meat was rubbery, and what the heck is up with the mexican salsas on the plate? (I've lived 20 years of my life in São Paulo and I've never seen anything like it). Farofa also had no flavor to it, this is definately not how i remember food from home. The beans also lacked flavor and didn't seem to be cooked properly (it was underdone)...that should be a crime considering thats everyday Brazilian food. Then to top it off they slap some bread on it to give an effect that you're getting a lot for your money. The bread doesn't match the rice at all, pointless fluff. If you want to really experience REAL Brazilian food try Espetus. If you want to experience REAL Brazilian snacks go to Pastel do Brazil. Both places are almost entirely staffed by Brazilians who know exactly how the food should taste. Don't mean to hate on non-Brazilians making Brazilian food but if you haven't been there or lived there you can't really get the grip of what the food should taste like. It's about the same as walking into a Japanese restaurant fully staffed by Chinese people, it just never tastes right. Only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars and not 1 is because the workers are friendly.

My friend and I visited Berkeley once and I mentioned I was hungry. He told me he knew a place and drove me to Brazil Cafe, the one on University outside of the bike shop. Admittedly, I was a little wary -- I saw Bridesmaids and that was the only exposure to Brazilian food I'd had, haha. This is the BEST. PLACE. EVER. I got the Pedro's Favorite and dude, it will rock your mouthhole. It has their signature tri-tip thinly sliced, complete with their homemade cilantro garlic sauce, cheese, green olives, jalapenos, grilled onions, tomatoes, lettuce and pineapple on it, all sandwiched between a soft bun. What makes this sandwich easily one of the most amazing I've eaten is the unique combination of textures and flavors. The pineapple gives it that sweetness, the green olives that brininess, the tomatoes and grilled onions offer great texture, the cilantro garlic sauce and the jalapenos give the heat, and the tri-tip is that salty, smoky perfection. Up until recently, I didn't even bother looking at the rest of their rather extensive menu. My eyes usually gravitate exclusively to Pedro's Favorite and I'm in heaven. Reasonably priced, delicious food. On a day trip to Berkeley I stopped by before I did anything, spent a few hours wandering and shopping, and got another sandwich before I went back to Sacramento. It's THAT good.

Food was pretty good (I went here for lunch with a group of 6)- service was great! The cheese puffs were awesome... especially with the dip, but they came out when we were halfway done with our meal (we were told they take a while). I'm not sure I would go back but I did enjoy my meal when I was there!!

I've been dying to try this place for a while but was waiting on my friend to take me. I passed it one day on my way to study and just said screw it I'm just gonna try it on my own! Party of one! Well, it's actually not your typical sit down place. There are a few tables outside so if it's a nice day it's a great place for lunch right on University so you can people watch and take in the Berkeley atmosphere. When I went the line wasn't very long and the staff was really nice when I asked what they recommended. I ordered the tri-tip plate to-go. It took about 10 mins. The plate was great! Small cute pieces of tri-tip on top of a tasty rice. My favorite was the cilantro sauce, great flavor to put on top of your steak or even dip your bread in. The plate was a nice size and very filling! Just enough for lunch. I did wish it could be a little spicier so maybe next time ill ask for jalapenos. The dressing on the side salad wasn't my favorite but the veggies were a nice addition to my plate. I'll definitely be coming back to try the tri-tip sandwich which was favorite amongst everyone in line. All in all great lunch spot!

I've loved the food from the little shack at the top of University, and this full restaurant is even better because they have a gorgeous patio covered in roses and a happy hour. My pork sandwich was delicious and warm. I will be coming here from now on.

  • Kirby S.

Okay, so my bf and I ordered one plate to share, ONE PLATE (meat lovers), and it took 35 minutes for them to get it to us, not okay for a regular restaurant, let alone a tiny street shack that should be hammering this stuff out. Plus there were at least three guys making food back there with only a small line. I don't get it??? Plus the food was just mediocre AT BEST, with small portions of each meat, and way too much rice as compensation. Why this place is so hyped, I am really not sure. If you are going to wait up to 40 minutes for food, please at least wait at a place with food that is worth that wait. Plus one of the guys making the food was pretty pervy, he kept looking all the girls up and down while standing waiting for their food with no shame, ew.

This was my first time trying Brazilian food ever and it was absolutely DELICIOUS! Definitely coming back here again. I got the Tri- Tip Plate it came with the meat, the rice (under the meat) , side salad, cilantro sauce with Pita Bread. It was the bomb. They have outdoor seating to the side and I hear the have indoor seating which I didn't see but idk I guess I was blind at that time lol. It kinda of took a long time for the food to come out like I said before in my tip but then after all there was like 3 people in front of us who already ordered and there were only like 2 guys who were working the kitchen sooo that's explainable.. :) overall I love this place and I would DEFINITELY come back. and it was worth the wait.

Awesome place to chill and enjoy the hot Nor Cali sun in the patio. Restaurant is joyous and appealing to the eye. Overall, food was really good and tasty. Cool little place. Amazing patio. My roast pork rice bowl was pretty good. Anything would be good with that cilantro garlic sauce they have. Service was friendly, food was solid, patio was amazing; a nice casual dinner for sure.

Had lunch here yesterday. I sat outside on the patio by the beautiful rose garden. This alone is worth a visit. But, I did order food and food was good. I started with the linguiça acebolada, served with a yummy garlic sauce. Since this was just a small plate, I wasn't quite full after it. I ordered some pao de queijo to finish up. These were delicious puffs of cheese, also served with their garlic sauce. Also, the mango smoothie looked yummy but I haven't tried it yet.

The best tri tip sandwich ever!! Order Pedro's favorite (tri tip sandwich) and pair that with a mango smoothie for an amazing meal - I could eat this everyday. Sit outside in the back on a sunny day on the colorful chairs for a great unique Brazil-in-Berkeley experience

  • Rachel M.

The food here is pretty consistent but the service is either a hit or miss. One time we were waiting a while to put in our order so we got up and went to the cashier area to place our order. The server said she would come to our table to get our order. It took her almost 10 mins and the place was not even busy. We went up to pay and the server said the same thing that she would come to our table. WTH!?! We went up to the cashiers area because she was taking forever and the damn place was not even busy! We just wanted to pay and get on with our day.

Brazil Cafe is undoubtedly one of my favorite restaurants to go to in Berkley. I drive all the way from Napa just to grab a bite here with a few buddies on a regular basis. There is a wide variety of authentic Brazilian dishes to choose from offering fresh made to order plates, sandwiches, or salads. The Tri-tip sandwich (being one of my favorite menu items) is absolutely delicious and burst with an abundance of flavor thanks in part of the delicious creamy cilantro garlic sauce, flavorfully marinated beef, crisp veggies, and bakery fresh bread. Salads are equally as tasty. Everything on the menu is pretty much amazing. Presentation is simple yet very appealing with a nice culinary influence if you will. The overall cleanliness of the restaurant far passed my expectations and the staff was extremely courteous and attentive. This is by far a genuinely good tasting restaurant that is well deserving of all its praise. Looking forward to continuing exploring the various menu items this establishment has to offer!

I've gone to the actual restaurant and the stand, and I always get the tri-tip sandwich (what they are known for) and it is amazing. The sauce is what puts it over the top. It usually comes with a free mango smoothie, which you take because well duh you're a broke student and it's free food! But let me tell you that drink is the sweetest thing that has ever entered my body, I can't handle it! But people seem to love it, so maybe I'm too old to appreciate it, or I just got a sugar filled batch? well it is free so I'll give it another go lol

Funny to hear people complain about a 10 dollar tri tip sandwich. It's an amazing sandwich that's pretty filling and quality ingredients. Mcdonalds Big Mac is like 6 bucks, maybe you should stick to places like that if 10 dollars for a quality sandwich is too expensive for you. Great service, very hospitable owner, and great patio.

No mango smoothie here FYI. Great place for kids and dogs alike. They even have a "sand box." Food and drink is good but pricey tho, perhaps in this area acceptable. One big screen tv, long line of at least 15 mins to order, no smoking anywhere close to here, and in honestly there's barely any people of color and gender variations here. But hay! If that's your thing come on by! It's relaxed and people are nice but this is def not the Berkley it use to be.

  • Connie Y.

Finally got to try the tri tip sandwich here and I thought it was good. The combination of the meat, cilantro sauce, olives, jalapeños, tomatoes, and feta cheese all complemented each other well. I got my sandwich with light feta cheese, though, because I'm not a big fan of cheese in general. Overall, I would recommend trying the tri-tip sandwich here :)

Wow. Just wow. My friend and I were wandering up and down University to find something just right, and we hit the jackpot. The roasted pork salad was quite possibly the best salad I've had in my life. It was huge, had lots of quality toppings (jalepenos, olives, perfect junky croutons), and an amazing cilantro dressing. You can get any of the meats with the salad, so it's perfect to customize to your needs. Also, you have to sit outside! They have the most GORGEOUS patio with a rose garden in the back! And for the friend who cares about good restrooms- theirs is very spa meets brazil funk - which I couldn't believe how above and beyond they went. Finally, cool tip: you can get a free smoothie with their coupon on the back of the business card so make a move on that!

You have to go - You have to get the tri-tip in a sandwich or salad - it is just awesome!!! I have now been here several time and keep taking friends and family that have not tried the delicious yummy-ness. I have created new fans! This is because the food is just so delicious. The service is always great as well. If you don't have time for the restaurant go up the street and grab a to go at the stand. You can not go wrong at this restaurant! This is a must frequent!!!

The food was really good - second time having this place - but for some reason, our order of one salad and one tritip sandwich took about 40 minutes to fulfill. Several ahead of us were quite annoyed, one even asked for a refund and left due to time constraints. Hope this doesn't happen on our next trip (we will still be back).

Desi Dog + Brazil Cafe = Desi Dog by Brazil Cafe This food truck serves the same overpriced (in my opinion) hot dogs from before offered by Desi Dog, in addition to the few favorites from Brazil Cafe. dogs ($4-6): american dog, brazilian dog, polish dog, veggie dog, hot links spicy dog, chili cheese monster dog, breakfast dog fries ($4-5): regular, garlic, cheese, chili The tri-tip sandwich is $7 and the Pedro's favorite tri-tip sandwich is $8. There's also a ton of toppings all around 50 cents. There are also a couple of appetizers, fried bananas and chicken croquettes. I wouldn't come here without a coupon for a free mango smoothie too. At prices like these, I almost expect it. The service though, is outstanding. Pedro is sure dedicated to his business and is often found at the many Brazil Cafe outposts that now exist.

My daughter and I came here for the first time today and the food was excellent! We ordered Pedro's Favorite Sandwich, and my daughter said it was the best sandwich she'd ever eaten. The texture of the French Roll and the ricotta combined with the meaty flavor of the Tri-tip was just brilliant. The waitress recommended the Pao de Quejio, which is a cheese puff with this amazing cilantro garlic sauce. My daughter dubs the sauce "awesomesauce". The puff itself is very good and has a sort of chewy texture. But the sauce is what made the dish: even after we finished we were scraping the bottom of the sauce dish ;)

I was looking for a tasty cilantro dressing and landed upon this place thanks to yelp. Their cilantro dressing is so freaking delicious! I ordered a crunchy chicken salad to go. I was thinking fried, but I got a mixed, mayonnaise-y salad. Which was delicious, I just wasn't expecting it. I gave them a 4 star instead of 5 because they poured the ranch dressing on my salad instead of putting it in a container...I don't like wilted lettuce. and 2nd because their ranch tastes like HV ranch which I think is gross. Plus side, I asked for a side of their cilantro dressing and just drenched my salad in that which makes me kind of forget the ranch was even on there. So far I've only had their salad, but can't wait to try a sandwich or rice bowl soon.

My boyfriend introduced me to this place, and i absolutely loved it. I ordered the tri tip sandwich, the combination of everything in the sandwich went really well together, along with cilantro garlic sauce... Flawless! It's too bad it's further away from where I live than I'd like, but it's definitely a must when I'm hanging around the area.

10 stars!!!!! I've walked by this little hut tons of times, always friendly!!! I've never been to the restaurant (same place but a block away but will be checking that out soon). Today I decided to stop and eat at the hut and I was blown away! It was so good that I had my family stop what they were doing and come eat right away. And when I say family I mean kids too!!! The kids loved it!!!! We all had The tri-tip rice bowls. I will be back in the next several days for sure!

I was really excited to try this place. I drove just to Berkeley for this. It wasn't too crowd when we got there. And they have an wonderful patio to sit. They had music playing. It was a nice day to sit outside and enjoy the place. We waited about 15 minutes for someone to come and give us the menu. No one came, so I got up and ask for some. Then we order the Brazilian coffee and mango smoothie. The coffee was cold and they didn't give me anything to stir my coffee with. The mango smoothie was a little weird. Doesn't taste as good. I got the combo meat plate and hh wings. I was told the wings will take 30 minutes to make. Ok not a big deal. We didn't get any water pitchers like the other tables, so we had to ask for water. It took forever for the food to come. I waited about 50 minutes for my combo plate. And they don't give you anything to eat with. So I get up and get it myself. Then I finish and I'm still waiting for the wings. Overall, it wasn't good. The service is horrible. The food is bland. And the bathroom is so close to the kitchen and the chef's coat is in there. Kinda dirty to me. The worst part is that they charge my card double and it been two weeks and they still haven't given me my refund. Would I come back? Probably not because the food isn't great and the service is even worst.

A bit pricey but the best tri-tip sandwich and mango smoothie I've tried! Watch out for the green habanero sauce! I drank two mango smoothie because I underestimated the effect of that darn hot sauce.

Awesome complimentary mango smoothie, which gives it the 5th star. But even without a free smoothie, this place is great. The food took a little longer to prepare than other restaurants around Berkeley, but the wait was definitely worth it. Great atmosphere, great food, friendly service!!

I've never had Brazilian food before but my friend suggested we try this place for Brazilian sandwiches today for lunch. As soon as we took a look at the menu, a man greeted us right away and said he had samples for us which I thought was awesome since we had never been. We put in our order and as we were waiting for our food, we found ourselves staring at the mural of Pedro on the wall, who had on a big smile which I thought was really cute. I then realized that it was Pedro himself who had offered us the samples earlier which made it more awesome. We walk to the other end and take a look at his wall of photos of himself with friends and customers, I was very impressed to see a man who clearly loves his life and enjoys what he does. He came over and chatted with us for a while and was such a friendly happy man that obviously values his customers. It's just one of those businesses that you're just happy to support. But enough about Pedro, the food was AMAZING. I loved my tri tip avocado sandwich. I was thinking that it would be super heavy like a cheese steak sandwich but it really wasn't. The tri tip and cilantro sauce was amazing, the grilled onions were perfect, not overdone and still crunchy just how I like it. I Will definitely be back and I'll be trying that mango smoothie next time!

Great place to go when you wanna taste a kind of Brazilian food. The best plate to eat is called "Samba", the well know "Strogonoff de Frango" in Brazil. You can drink there the famous Guarana Antartica to accomplish you Samba plate.

again! every dish here is so amazing. I feel like I'm eating with my family in Belo when I sit down for a plate in this place. so good. I've come for the feijoada and a few of the plates. tonight I had the pulled pork plate since they ran out of feijoada. (Make more you guys! It's too good).

Food is great! Owner is super nice! Only downside is that they seem a bit disorganized. I always call in my order ahead of time, but I get the feeling they never start making it until I go to pick it up. Get the Tri tip Mediterranean plate.

  • Erik C.

Well i heard so many good things about the amazing tip sandwich so i came today to try it. Well the music is great the service also is not too bad but the food was not the highlight of this lunch )-: . it was a big blend of flavors inside one sandwich, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, jalapeño, olives, pineapple, cilantro.... And the list is much longer than this I will have to come again because i like to give this place one more chance.

Good option to have a lunch in Berkeley. The strogonoff plate is amazing, very brazilian!!!! There is a delicious bread cheese too. Some plates with meat are a little bit heavy, it's better you share with someone. I think they should put some brazilians desserts in the menu.

Wow! wow! wow! Lived in area all my life, drove past hundreds of times, but never tried it. I had the chicken rice bowl tonight. And a bottled water that was only $1. It was near closing, and amazingly EVERYTHING was fresh. White rice: fresh & cooked to perfection; chicken: sliced white meat that was juicy & flavorful; sauteed onions that were perfect; then a green garlic cilantro sauce with a liquid cheese (ricotta) that topped everything. The piglet that I am, with this delicious food, I ate it all in one sitting. I'm not really familiar with Brazilian food, so I can't comment as to its authenticity, but trust me, I will be returning and can't wait to try the tri-tip.

PROS: I love.... repeat love.... did I mention LOVE? the cilantro garlic sauce. This spot always does the trrick when I need a great tasting meal. CONS: The wait can be a bit annoying at times. I suppose they do make the food fresh and on the spot, but you have to wonder if they couldn't improve the process some how?

Thank you, fellow yelpers! We drive up from LA (with our pug) for all Shotgun Players shows and are always looking for places to catch a non-$$$$ bite of delicious food and THIS IS IT! Plus our pug could join us at a sidewalk table - nice. The garlic in the sauce is strong, but it didn't haunt me later, like I thought it would. Also, I'm one of those "can't stand any amount of cilantro" people (its a gene thing, I'm told) - but I even dealt with the cilantro minced into the sauce because it was SO SO good. (I want to try something with that sauce without the beef next time, so hope its avail.) The crunchy chicken sandwich was really, really good too - gooey in a good way (i.e., not diet food.) And the bread on this (as well as on the tri-tip) was special-good and it still wasn't soaked thru 3 hours later, when we ate it back at the hotel! We will SO be back. [BTW, we went to the little shack in Mike's Bikes lot, the storefront cafe around the block, appeared to be under renovation or whatever?]

Perhaps one of the best sandwiches (tri-tip with the works) I've ever had, and definitely the best from a stand. Not super cheap for the size, but delicious bang for your buck. Mango Smoothie isn't that great, but sometimes they'll give it to you for free if you're ordering around when they're closing up their stand.

My wife and I found ourselves in Berkeley the other night an hour before a concert at the Greek Theatre, and were famished. We had decided on Slow but after not having anyone speak to us for better part of 10 minutes, we left and came down a little further to Brazil Cafe. Instantly we were greeted with a tantalizing sample of the tri-tip on sale on this place. My wife is not a red meat eater but after tasting this delicious morsel she instantly decided on the Pedro's tri-tip sandwich. I was interested in something with rice before I came in, and thankfully there was a rice bowl option. The tri-tip was very good, very tender, but the green cilantro garlic sauce they used on this meat was what made the meal complete, and so delicious. The staff was very inviting, friendly, attentive and courteous. Can't ask for much better in this department. The patio in the back is very charming, it puts you into a relaxed mindset to enjoy the delicious offerings of this cozy little Cafe. They have some great brews available to the beer connoisseur. I had the Prohibition Ale. Next time I am in Berkeley, I'll be sure to stop by this little gem again.

I ventured to this restaurant a couple weekends ago with a friend of mine on a Saturday night. When we arrived at the restaurant, it was rather full of people but we sat fairly comfortably to two gentlemen. My friend was super stoked about trying this place and let me tell you, we were not disappointed. FOOD: We both ordered the Leblon Hot Plate (the traditional Brazil plate with sautéed veggies). The dish came with a cup of black beans, a cilantro sauce, farofa, a coleslaw salad, rice, and sautéed veggies. Overall it was super yummy. I added a variety of different how sauces to the dish because I love spice. I ended up mixing all of the components of the dish with very bite and it was absolutely amazing. The farofa was good to soak up the sauces and juices from the veggies. The beans had just the right consistency, not too hard and not too mushy. My favorite part of the dish most definitely was the cilantro-garlic sauce. It was creamy and had a crisp tang to it that increased the flavor of the other foods. ENVIRONMENT: It is a pretty casual environment. The silverware is on the table in containers that you use as you please and you have to ask for them to refill the napkins on the table. You "seat yourself" and you might end up sharing a table with people you may not know, so if you are searching for an intimate meal, this place is not ideal. There is only one server so you don't build a close relationship with them, so the tip shouldn't be too generous. The food took quite a long time to get to the table, about 25 minutes so it was not a quick meal. Overall Rating: 4.0 Great place for Brazilian food experience and a date with a girlfriend/guy friend.

I just love this place. This was my first time at the new location, I figured it would be bigger but pretty much same as the old. Their tri tip is my absolute favorite, my only complaint is that its just not a good sanwich to go, the bread always get super soggy. Still, one of my favorite spots in Berkeley

Very good, I've been to the outdoor shack for years but stopped going because the food quality declined and the wait times were too long. This place is new and the quality here is much better. Staff is also much friendlier. Highly recommend the Chicken salad.

Came here spontaneously one day after running errands. I've had brazil cafe before when it was just a stand and it was so good that I had to try it again. I ordered the bahia which was chicken cooked in a creamy orange sauce with rice, thin potato crisps, bread and also the mango smoothie. It was self seating, my bf and I decided to sit outside since it was such a lovely day. Waited about 10-15 minutes to get our drinks and then it took another good 15 minutes to get our food. The wait was a bit too long which was the downside but once the food was served it did taste amazing, everything went perfectly well together and the portions are pretty reasonable for what you're paying. The mango smoothie is the best smoothie I've ever had, hands down. Also the hot sauces presented on the table is a must to put on any dish, I prefer the XXXtra hot one just because I like to add a little kick to my food.

My review is for the Tri-tip sandwich. It is just delicious!! The cilantro and garlic sauce makes it even better. I am Brazilian and I loved it. I tried a sample of the feijoada and believe it had too much bay leaves. If had a little less would make it perfect. Thanks for bringing the Brazilian taste to the Bay Area!!!

I'M SO GLAD THERE'S A BRAZIL CAFE FOOD TRUCK ON BANCROFT AND TELEGRAPH NOW! Such a smart location. Makes it so much easier to eat some delicious tri-tip sandwiches with friends after class on Sproul steps or the grass nearby the truck! I have to admit though... I ordered my fav Brazil Cafe sandwich (tri-tip sandwich with the works) today (for $7.99), and it didn't taste as good as the one from the Brazil Cafe on University. I got less meat, onions, jalapenos, etc. in my sandwich so it was flatter than usual... Maybe today was just an off day. Usually they are filled with tri-tip pieces covered in some delicious green sauce. Sandwiches are juicy and aaaaaammmaaaaazzzziiiiiinnnnngggg!!!!!! It also makes me smile when I see the guy that owns it!! (The guy whose picture is on the truck). He's soooo nice and friendly!! And he gives you samples and coupons for their amazing mango smoothie!! BTW, unlike the Brazil Cafe on University, this one is CASH ONLY.

Places like this are few and far between.. Probably the best tri tip I've had in the bay. And to top it off the owner Pedro is a great big ball of sunshine that EVERYONE likes! He's always there welcoming me, and treating me like My business matters to him.. If Pedro's keeps coming up on your college freshman's bank statement try to let it slide will ya ma?

  • Randall B.

Pedro's Brazil Cafe, new to this space. The menu is a bit more diverse than the Peruvian cafe that was there before...the selling point still being the back patio. Warm summer and fall days make this a perfect place to bring your dog! There are also several food choices in the neighboring cafes as well, all allowing seating in the back courtyard. Pedro's patio could use a pressure washing a bit more frequently. Food was good & adequate, though spoiled as we are for great food in the BayArea... this isn't yet it. I got the Tri-tip sandwich and added fried garlic. Decent. The Guarana Antarctica soda was the highlight of the meal really. Made in Brazil and sponsor of the national football team! Tastes similar to ginger ale but with kicking caffeine. Loved it!

Sooo good. His garlic cilantro sauce is both unique and tasty.

  • Dan H.

Don't come here unless you really value indoor seating! The prices here are 25% more than the other store which is 2 blocks away. Pedro's already raised their prices, so most reviews are slightly inflated due to nostalgia (or prior experience) from the previously cheap & tasty meal. Now, all meals are in the $10+ range. It's still good food, but there's no point in paying more for the same service.

    (2)
  • Bobby N.

I ordered Pedro's Favorite Sandwich for $8. The best expression to describe it is 'meh'. The ingredients had the taste of mediocrity all over it. I must say, the tri tip was pretty good which is what is saving it from a lower rating. Also, be prepared to wait 20minutes for your food when there are 3 people in front of you.

We went to a friends birthday here and we ended up at Pedro's food stand. He was there and gave us directions and we told him about our friends birthday so he have us Brazilian candies for him. When we got to the restaurant the food was amazing. They make this pesto cilantro sauce that is delicious. I suggest the cheese stuffed rolls. Everyone loved the food and soju. It was a great place to have a party. Thanks Pedro!

I haven't written a review for a while, but I came back just to write this review. Let me clear the air first and say that I love Brazil Cafe. I always get the tri-tip plate because it has the most bang for the buck in my opinion, but the truck does NOT have this option. I went during a short class break and I was in a rush to decide what I wanted as my first meal of the day when I spotted the Desi Dog truck transformed into a blue mass that is now Brazil Cafe. Pedro was there handing out samples of the meat to passerbys and that was my cue. The sample meat tasted great so I got Pedro's Favorite which is the sandwich. First time I ever got the sandwich, but it fit on a tiny tray that a hot dog would snugly fit in and they got it all wrong. No pineapples. No jalapenos. So when I went back and asked them to add those things, they did it immediately but when I took that first bite that I so longed for, there were olives in there instead of jalapenos. Didn't expect that. I also didn't expect my meat to be bleeding onto the bread. This was not what the sample tasted like. I was already late for my return to class because I had felt the extra 7 minutes I waited would be worth it. They weren't. To top it off, this tiny sandwich was over 8 dollars. I legitimately miss Desi Dog and the sexy hot dog that used to be on the side. Pedro, you're cool but I'm going to stick to the stand on University.

I really enjoyed the sample of meat that I was being handed out along the sidewalk. The meat in my tri-tip sandwich was fatty fatty fatty. The cilantro garlic sauce that coated the meat was the only enjoyable part of my sandwich. Overall, I would come back and give this place another try.

... is this real life? Did one of my favorite Berkeley eateries set up camp on campus?! I was ecstatic to see Brazil Cafe's truck sitting on Bancroft and Telegraph on the first day of class. A little skeptical at first, I walked to look at the menu, only to be greeted by a familiar menu filled with Brazil Cafe favorites, like Pedro's Favorite, and of course, the mango smoothies. The line is never that long here, which is awesome, and the staff is still as friendly as ever. They honor the UC Berkeley "Press Pass" discount cards so you can still get your FREE MANGO SMOOTHIE! The quality of the food hasn't gone down, so now I can happily get my tri-tip sandwich fix whenever without having to trek all the way to University. ... although I wish they had the wish bracelets at the UC Berkeley truck :(

It almost tastes like Korean barbecue. That's probably why it's soo good. I went to the Brazil Cafe Truck today because I was feeling anemic and wanted red meat. I got the tri-tip rice bowl because they are famous for their tri-tip (or it seemed so anyways). It was $6.99+ tax. Came out to $7.68 and the food came out fast enough. I was disappointed by the size because it did come out to almost $8 but beef is sold at a premium in Berkeley. Tri-tip rice bowl comes with rice, tri-tip pieces (not a heaping amount, but enough that when you mix it all together, you can see the pieces all mixed in a homogenous sort of way), ricotta cheese, and their cilantro garlic sauce. Also comes with two small slices of french bread smushed inside. All in all, filling for me, but I'm a small girl.

I've been at Cal for 3 years and have always heard great things about Brazil Cafe. But wait - has this truck always been there? Didn't it use to sell hotdogs? I was walking down Sproul yesterday, stomach a-rumbling, when I saw the food truck and decided to give their famous tri-tip sandwich a try. I got mine with ricotta cheese and jalepeno (I was going to get Pedro's World Famous Tri-tip sandwich but didn't want olives, tomatoes and pineapple in there so there was no point). It came to a little over $8 so it was a pretty expensive sandwich, but it was decently sized and really good. The meat was okay, but it's the cilantro spread that makes the sandwich. Everyone in line ahead of me ordered the mango smoothie, which came in a puny cup. Will definitely stop by from time to time to grab a quick bite for lunch since it's so conveniently located!

This is a special thing. Everyone loves Brazil Cafe and the unusually close Brazil Fresh Squeeze Cafe, but finally they opened a more practical location right at the foot of Berkeley campus. I believe they bought out the pretty solid DesiDog hot dog stand. But pretty much same as the old Brazil Fresh Squeeze Cafe. Get a little sample of tri-tip. Just for fun. And then get a Tri-Tip Bowl, Sandwich, or Plate. I recommend the plate and then grub on that with some hot sauce and whatever sauce they got. And get a Mango smoothie if you have that coupon. Then get this little ribbon band that is apparently impenetrable and grants three wishes you make after tying three magically impenetrable knots. Fun stuff I suppose. Good job Fresh Squeeze on opening a stand at a prime location. An excellent choice indeed. See you there!

Brazil Cafe's Food Truck is an institution at Berkeley. When I was in school, they were located on University. I guess they got so big that they moved right on to campus at Sather Gates. They are known for their tri-tip sandwich. Pedro walks around giving out samples of tri-tip with the green sauce to lure customers in. Once you have a nibble, it's hard to get away because the meat is that good. I really enjoyed the toasty bread with all the condiments and heaping mounds of meat. It's a messy sandwich so be prepared for that. For $7, you get a very satisfying meal. My friend asked for a special order to make a tri-tip sandwich. Omg...that was so much better. Probably the best salad I've ever had in my life. It was that good. It's pretty much everything in the sandwich but without the bread. You must try Brazil Cafe if you are in Berkeley. I miss Berkeley's cheap, good eats.

Not sure if the other locations are better, but my first experience here did not live up to the hype... The Pedro - it's a great concept, and a good sandwich, but nothing to write home about. Reminds me of the philly steak wars and who uses the better beef. The tri-tip was not as tender as my sample (some pieces were quite chewy!) and meat flavor seemed bland. The combination of pineapple, olives, and sauces added great flavor, but was so drenched that there was literally ounces of liquid in my tray... not the easiest-to-eat street food. And it's $8? With tax and a drink, you're easily over $10-11. Service was fast and friendly, yet I doubt I will be returning anytime soon. I wasn't wowed by the tri-tip, nor impressed with the mess it made, and can easily find better places to spend $10 for lunch.

The food truck craze has spread! For fans of Brazil Fresh Squeeze Cafe and its sister shack, now you can order their menu along with Desi dogs at their new food truck. It seems like a collaboration or takeover of the Desi Dog truck. I was walking on Telegraph and couldn't miss the giant Jesus picture that replaced the sexy fiery Desi lady (I kinda miss her...). The owner handed out tri tip samples and I ordered my usual tri tip sandwich for $6.99. Most folks in line ordered their mango smoothie and a sandwich and others got a Desi dog. The tri tip comes with an addictive cilantro spread and grilled onions. It reminds me of Vietnamese shaking beef, which is comfort food for me. Sandwich portions are big, smoothie portion is small and wait is longer than the old Desi truck, but they'll get faster.

I don't know if they just run out of things quickly or if they are just falsely advertising. They said something about not having any plates or bowls... I originally wanted a tri tip rice bowl (one of their daily specials) but they did not have it so I ordered the tri tip sandwich instead. CBS said it was the "best tri tip sandwich" so it must be good right? WRONG. The sandwich I got was mediocre at best. The sandwich came in one of those paper baskets for fries and cost me $7.49. The bread was mushy and wet because it was slathered in the garlic cilantro sauce (which was pretty salty) and dripping with sauce from the tri tip (also very salty). Usually when people are looking for a sandwich they expect the bread to be toasty or crunchy... For vegetables on my sandwich I got one small lettuce leaf, a handful of wet, soggy onions (definitely not fresh...), and a slice of tomato. If there had been more fresh vegetables, the sandwich would not have been so repulsively salty. Overall the sandwich that I got lacked balance in both textures and taste. The only reason I haven't rated this as 1 star is because I only tried one thing. However if this is the best they've got I'm unwilling to try anything else on their menu.
