Okay, I bit the bullet and we went back. We had boycotted this place for a year and a half. All of the comparable Chinese /American Style from the 1960 are going our of business. I need to get my Egg Foo Young fix so, we went back. We were greeted promptly and urge to take a seat of our choice. The place was full. It looked like they were a little short staffed but we got good service considering. At the end when we were presented are bill, no automated 15% gratuity added.

I really hate to do this, but I feel the need to update my previous review due to recent events. I literally have been eating here all my life and the food is as great as it ever was and prices remain reasonable, however that's where it ends. When I was younger and eating here the waiters were wonderfully attentive to your needs, very polite and seem to love their jobs. Business boomed back in the day and the place was always packed. Over the years things have changed, the older loyal customers have passed away through the years and the youth now think authentic Chinese food is what they get at these Chinese fast food take outs...if they only knew. I have had many disappointing events with the new ownership and staff which has changed my outlook on eating here in the future. Every time we have eaten here in the recent past we have had to put up with the waiters sitting over in the next section talking loud and laughing and carrying on in Mandarin while us and others are trying to enjoy our meals quietly, we have had our waiter go in and get his dinner plate and bring it out to eat, and have had the waiters either stand or sit in a booth near the kitchen area staring at us while we eat. The time before last, we got ignored by the waiters upon entry and ended up being seated, served water, tea and fortune cookie by a mexican guy in a dirty t shirt and apron who was cleaning off the tables, he even came by while we were eating to check up on us and see if there was anything we needed....I personally gave him a tip as we left and told him that he should be wearing a waiter's outfit instead of them. Last week was the final straw though, we walked into the restaurant to find the owner at the cash register yelling at a waiter, he continued to do so while we were being seated, they paused long enough to get our tea and fortune cookie and then went back to the argument not returning to see if we needed sweetener for our tea or if we would like water. We found this to be quite unprofessional for a business owner to act and felt really sorry for the waiter having to be berated in front of customers, we promptly got up out of our seats and left, but not before giving the owner a piece of my mind right in front of all 3 or so tables of customers. To the newest owners of Ming's I offer the following in hopes that your restaurant can once again be what it used to for so many previous decades: Treat your customers with the respect they deserve, you hardly have the clientele this place once had and you can't afford to lose any customers. Diners pay to be fully and promptly attended to throughout their entire meal, they don't want their dining experience ruined by unprofessional staff and all their drama (Mandarin is not the most pleasant language for Americans to listen to, and even more unpleasant when spoken loud or yelled!). Don't stare at your customers while they eat, it's just creepy, go about your jobs yet keep a glancing eye on your customers, if they're looking around for you it's quite likely they need something. Don't let your bus boys do your jobs for you, it makes you look very unprofessional. You always seem to have quite enough waiters for the limited amount of customers you have, our dining experience should not be unpleasant...and believe me, it is. Perhaps if you respected your service staff they would be walking around looking and acting like they didn't want to be working there. Present owner please, please read this review and give it thought, I LOVE Ming's, always have, but hate to see it going down hill as it is. Perhaps restaurant ownership is not for you, maybe you should sell it to someone more suited to do so. Just a thought.

If you are searching for a great Chinese Food restaurant, keep searching! This place earns one star because I am such a nice person and yelp won't let me give them zero stars. In all fairness, they did earn that one star. I'll give it to them for the ice cold water that I asked for, that was the only thing I had for dinner that didn't make me want to gag. We ordered the dinner for two ($25). It came with chow mein (that had mysterious meats), beef and broccoli, fried rice, orange chicken, pork egg rolls, and soup. Sounds like a great deal right?! We specifically asked that the beef be well done. Well, let's just say it was the most soggy beef I've ever had (not edible). The chow mein came and we noticed it had mushrooms, we kindly asked the mushrooms be removed or they make a new one for us. The waitress said, "no problem". The chow mein came back and from top view the mushrooms were gone, it wasn't until I took my fork to mix it, that I noticed tons of other mushrooms in it. To be honest, even if they picked out every single mushroom, it was terrible chow mein. The noodles were way over cooked and mushy at that point! Because I am sick to my stomach after this experience, let me just end with I don't think the orange chicken is really "chicken". In case you couldn't already tell, I will not be returning to this joint.

My wife and I recently dined at Ming's. Sorry to say that the place was unclean. We had to ask the waiter to clean our table. We also noted that there was food on the floor. Ugh!

This place must have been popular back in the 80's..but this food was the most disgusting Chinese Food I ever had. I will say the staff here were very nice! I felt so Nauseous after I ate there! The chow mein looked very sloppy & the noodles were falling off the plate. The sweet & sour pork tempura was soggy & Sweet. The Orange Chicken was so over cooked I thought one of my crowns were going to crack!

On latest visit had chicken with snow peas, & water chesnuts. So tasty and love textures and flavors. They gave me a delicious side of chili oil which is a favorite. Also had their yummy egg foo yung. If you are really hungry their ribs are an awesome extra to go along with the feast. Friendly people here.

All I have to say is WTF! The food here was sooooo gross and bland, I couldn't even finish my meal. I literally got up after 3 bites. The rice was greasy, the noodles were bland and I can't even say what I thought of the orange chicken without being in violation of Yelp's terms of service. I'm giving it 2 stars just to be nice because the service was great and it's not the waiter's fault that the food tastes like shit. And don't get me started on that joke they call an egg roll. Whoever gives this place five stars either works there, knows the owners, or smokes crack! Never again!

I've been eating at this place for 20+ years. Alway fresh, and real Chinese food. I usual order chicken chow mein (sprout kind), shrimp fried rice, beef and broccoli. I'm not sure why this place is getting bad reviews, except for the AC was broke in 100 degree weather, that why they got a 3 instead of 4. They also didn't have spring rolls available or lemon for the water. Otherwise, I'll be back...

  • Laura R.

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE food! You can taste the MSG all over it. Went there because it had been recommended, but will not be going back again. If you care for you health even a little bit, avoid this place.

I found my new favorite Chinese spot. The family meal (#4) is enough food to feed a small army( seal team 6) Everything I ate was delicious. To start off they serve egg flower soup. It was the best I ever had. Once me and the family was fine with that, here comes the meal. Plate after plate of goodness. BBQ ribs, egg rolls, orange chicken, fried rice, three types of chow mien, ect. It was five of us and we only ate half the food.

Let me take you back to the days when polyester suits were all the rave. Blow dried hair was essential. Blue eyeshadow (sloppily applied) a must. Bell-bottoms pants almost as important as the kind of car in which to be seen in. Donna Summer blaring from every business as you walked down Broadway in DTLA. Saturday Night Fever was the best movie ever made (at the time). Studio 54 the hottest club of all! And lets not forget the Son the Son of Sam terrorizing the mean streets of New York! Yup the good old 70's. How do the 70's relate to a Chinese restaurant review you ask? Ah, grasshopper well let me explain. Ming's restaurant conveniently located on Bellflower Blvd, just south of the 91fwy. Is the epitome of what a popular Chinese restaurant of the 70's was like. It's decor has not changed much (or at all I should say exempt that it now has vinyl floors instead of carpet). You can see the once glorious cork celling begin to show its age. The bright orange booths still hold some of their luster. The once shiny brass pagoda, now dulling sits in a corner. But the wonderful spirit of the 70's still lives on. This is the kind of place where anybody who was anybody back then would come to Ming's for their fill of Chinese. Today, only locals frequent this one time mecca of the fashion impaired. And this is what my husband and I so adoringly like to call our regular "Tacky Chinese" restaurant. Because like everything from the 70's this place oozes tackiness. It has recently (within the last 1yr or so) changed ownership and the only real visible and noticeable change has been to the floor as mentioned. They've gotten rid of the opera program style menu and replaced it with our typical laminated ones. Several dishes have been done away with and only a few essentials remain. The food is still good (not exceptional but good). But we like the feel and ambiance. The service is always been good and have never once had any complaints. So, if you're in the mood for some tacky Chinese give Ming's a try :)

Good old fashioned Chinese food the way I remember as a kid. Bilo the beans sprout channel main! But my personal favorite is the egg foo young, it has thick egg batter with the rich brown gravy which I'm sure hardens arteries as you eat it :-) the decor in here is that classic cheesy Chinese that makes you feel like you are in Chinatown San Francisco. I have been coming here for many years and the quality of the food and the service is better than it is ever been. New management is really working. There are a couple of great waiters in here broken English and I'll try their best to be friendly and I applaud them for their efforts. Paying off keep up the great work guys

    (5)
  • Elizabeth N.

I've gone here since I was a kid, the food isn't as spatacular as it once was since some of the staff has changed but still worth going. Great for large groups and tasting all sorts of diahes together. Their sizzling rice soup is great!

  • G L.

Was going by, it looked authentic so we thought we'd try it. Dum Dum Dum-I didn't read the reviews. Started good. Ordered lunch-the soup came-not sure what it was but it was good. They bring the crispy Chow Mein noodle with mustard and some red sweet paste that was supposed to be sweet & sour but was way too thick. Still noodles were tasty. Entrees were Mongolian Beef and Beef with Broccoli (comes with soup, fried rice, and either Egg Roll, Egg Foo Young or fried shrimp). We got one with egg foo young and I thought I was safe so I went with the egg roll. Egg Foo Young was very good-crispy patty with good sauce. Egg Roll-or should I say 2 pieces cut out of an Egg Roll were not good! The Egg Roll didn't have the crispy shell and the filling was not good. The fried rice had no flavor and I would bet it was not fried either. Mongolian Beef had good flavor but meat was over tenderized. They brought out the Mongolian Beef first and it took a while to get the rest so I sat for a while without food. The Beef with Broccoli was not so good-the beef was over tenderized as well and the sauce was not real flavorful. The kicker was that the waiter then brought out Chicken Chop Suey (my husband & I were debating whether we should get a regular meal but the decision was very clear- I think the waiter just wanted to sell more. The worst part was the Chop Suey had chicken that was over tenderized as well and had green peppers which took over the flavor and had no bean sprouts. When we asked he said he thought we wanted it. Well, then, read the food orderd like most places do so there is no question. Blah, blah they bring fortune and almond cookies but that doesn't make up the food. Maybe there are other entrees that are better-you gotta know what to order. But for such a nice looking place, I expected better.

I am giving them a 4 star rating my first review only shows a 1 star which was not what I intended. Make sure you order your food from the big restaurant and not the. One located on the side of building .The outside one is not the same style . it's more like the rest of the one's you see in strip malls. I suggest order the dinners like # 1,-4 you received a complete meal .Service and food still great.

  • Doris F.

My husband and me landed at this place to eat after attempting to eat at the new Golden Corral restaurant that just opened. We decided to skip the Golden Corral because the line was wrapped around the building. Ming's was an excellent choice! We had the best service and the most amazing food! We really loved the egg foo young as well as everything else! We are looking forward to dining at Ming's again!

OMG!!! That's what I'm talkin' about! Oh how I've missed this kind of chinese food! The egg foo yung took me back to childhood! The Pork chow mein like it should be with lots of bean sprouts ! I only wish there were more Ming's Chinese Food Locations!!!

    (5)
  • Ignacio R.

We had the #3 family meal...they allowed us to substitute the beef broccoli for the Kung pao chicken...good move because it was delicious. The chow mein was so fesh that the bean sprouts tasted as though they were fresh from the garden...fortunes were also great. Sweet and sour pork was good because it wasn't so sweet...of course nothing is perfect, the sweet and sour pork was a bit dry and hard...otherwise, it would've been a 5 star!

If you want old school American Chinese and a lot of it this is the place. The food is good and I agree with several other reviews about the service. There seems to have been a change in ownership and the service was rough. We were loyal and came back again and again to find the service improving. I think there was a learning curve for the new owners. Don't come here and rate them poorly because you thought you were getting authentic Chinese. It's not that type of place. Enjoy it for what it is !

  • Bob G.

I would rate it 3.5. Good food, good service. Just not the best I have ever eaten. I would recommend it. I would come back.

After rediscovering Mings Chinese food, We've been disappointed with the consistency of quality. The restaurant is still tired and needs a major remodel. I had to rewrite my rating because they need some changes to get back to the great place that used to be. I am currently on the fence about recommending this restaurant at this time. Will try again and see if things have changed.

Dear fellow Foodies, This is the best Chinese restaurant in Los Angeles County. According to my friend, she says it's the best in the country. We had the Mongolian Beef, the hand made pork veggie rolls and vegetable soup. Just when you thought you tasted it all, nope, THIS is so much more than what your taste buds expected! AND no MSG's!!!! Come by. If you think it wasn't worth the drive, then you don't know good food.

I'm always surprised at how NOT BUSY this place is. They give SO MUCH FOOD, the staff is always friendly, prompt and attentive. I enjoy the free crunchy noodles, fortune cookies (they trick you & serve them early; you think...shouldn't these be given at the end?), and almond cookies (these are at the end). The price is always GREAT. Food's yummy, my favorite being cashew chicken. This is my go-to place on weekends because most times I don't like waiting a long time. Plus it's really close to my house! I even enjoy the 60's-70's atmosphere! (I'm in my 40's)

Horrible food. Eaten there many times, not sure what happened. Ordered family meal to go . 1st we ordered Orange Chicken and it was missing the chicken, Beef & Broccoli was substandard (its pretty hard to mess that up), Chow mein tasted & looked like top ramen that had been sitting in water and got soggy. Waste of money.

  • Zee M.

They were very prejudice. I went in with my boyfriend and they tried to make us pay first because they said when "people like us come in" we have to pay before we get the food. I am African American. We left after the server made us very uncomfortable.

  • Edgar S.

Horrible lunch... The service was terrible my soup go thrown, my refill was not refilled and she refused to give it to me then my friend gave me some cash so we could split the bill and she comes scoops it up no questions asked screams from across the room and makes a scene we tell her we were splitting the bill and she didn't ask anything and she shouldn't have taken the cash, we didn't even te a bill how were we suppose to know how much it was.. None the less her attitude was horrible.. Fuck this place.

  • Rochelle B.

I've been eating here for the past 30+ years, but their food quality has just gotten worse over the past several years. Today will probably be the last time I ever eat here again. The meat was just horrible. I guess I will just hold onto the old memories.

This restaurant sucks so much that the food taste old I had to return it and they give me a new plate and it still tastes old

I ate here yesterday for the first time and I will definitely be back, and soon! Something about the food and the wonderful hospitality just makes me want to come back for more. I loved everything on the special dinner for two menu... except for the chow mein. For some reason it just didn't do it for me; the flavor was great BUT I will never praise a ramen dressed up as chowmein. Get it together Mings lol. Other than that little hiccup I can easily see my son growing up in this establishment just as I grew up in the gone but not forgotten Tin Sing. My favies are the rice YESSS LAAAWD! The egg flower soup; and the tea. I didn't care that much for the broccoli beef but my sissy loved it but I've never been a broccoli beef type of person.

This was definitely old school Chinese food and the decor probably hasn't change much since the 60's. Old school since I haven't eaten this type for at least a decade. There was a Ming's take out in Lynwood when I was growing up, not sure if there is any relation but the food is quite similar. The lunch menu is complete with soup, entree, rice, crunchy noodles, cookies and tea. The price can't be beat. They were not too busy but it was taking a long time to get our lunch. The waiter apologized and said the cook was fairly new. Great, now I think the meal will be bad. However, it was quite good and enough left over to take home. I will be in the area next week and plan on having lunch there again.

Came here to celebrate Mother's Day with a group of 15. We sat in two separate areas for space. The group I was with ordered first and we were served water and tea. We were off to good start until the waitress only brought half out food and said the rest was on the way, so we waited. 20 minutes pass and the other table get served all of their food, however we were still waiting for ours. We had to remind the server 3 times and still nothing came. Our water glasses and our tea was never refilled. After 40 minutes (and the rest of our food was cold) the remaining food came but still no water. We asked again and a male server came and instead of servings us, threw the pitcher on the table. The food was awful! It was incredibly salty and everything was dripping with oil. The staff was absolutely rude. I will never go back again. Waste of time and money!

Once you get past the time "standing still" old furniture old walls look you are served horrible food with horrible service no taste whatsoever! The food tasted bland I would definitely not be going back! If you taking someone on a first date it might be your last, you'll be better off going to Burger King keep driving!!

Really great food. Been coming here for 30 years. Takeout or dine in is a win. I stay away from the fast food on the side of the restaurant and get take out from inside the restaurant.

Ok upon arrival walking in a man at the counter in a gruff voice ( just might be how he talks ) asked my self and my company for here or to go ?? We say for here and he picks up menus walks over to a table and put them down and walks Away .. We went and sat down . Assuming it was for us ?? I looked at the pre set plates and silverware and see food specks stuck on all of them a waitress takes it away and brings new setting .. She was very attentive and she gets 2 stars .. I can't say that the food was special .. It's served family style .. It was just kind of there .. Egg roll was super deep fried and wontons as well .. I ordered Orange chicken it looked like sesame chicken and I was brought sweet and sour sauce on the side I would not recommend anything . Most the food was put into to go boxes ... We didn't eat but a few bites .. The left overs fed a few homeless folks .. We left disappointed ..

I wish i could give less than a star but its useless. Im a repeat customer and everytime i have lunch there theres a young lady that works there thats great and the food is great aswell. But two days ago i whent to mings for lunch with my wife and inlaws and to my surprise the girl that i always see there wasnt there. The girl that served us was rue she was unpolite unproffessional. She wasnt nice at all. Also for the first time the food was nasty it tasted old like reheat from the day before it was uneatable. My wife and inlaws along with me had no choice than to throw $40 away!!! I was so disapointed that i didnt even complain to the manager. THE WORST $40 IVE EVER SPENT BAD EXPERIENCE AND BAD LUNCH!!!! The chow mein was horrible!!!

I have been eating at Mings since I was 7 years old. Used to go with my grandmother & mother. It is not the same since the original owners are not there anymore. The food is just so-so now not what it once was

We were looking forward to getting take out from Mings. It had been some time since we had eaten their food. WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT! Their rice was fair, they prepared the worst fried shrimp, tasted as if it was fried in week old oil! The shrimp was minuscule and dry! We couldn't eat the ribs, dry, tasteless! And order egg rolls but didn't get them, of course, paid for them. All of this for $ 33.00 plus. Will never go here again!

There's something ABOUT AUTHENTICITY that makes me want to enjoy it often. Ming's is ENJOYMENT. From the entrance, to the seating, I feel as if I've been transported back to the 70's, a shanghai'esque flavor, ala Bruce Lee's Enter The Dragon style, that I cannot forget. I actually caught myself day dreaming while looking at the artistic window panels and feng shui miniaturizations, the Bonsai trees (they are so cute). This place disserves an award for being relentless. While every business corner around the area has been stabbed by the economy, this place keeps it real and does not succumb to the temporal economic wave which shall mellow out soon. What about the food, you ask? Well, it's as good as it GET'S, chinese being one of my top MULTI-FLAVOR delites that is recognized the world over. Can you say SRIRACHA with combination FRIED RICE! Yuuuummm... I always make it a ritual to drink Chinese tea as (psychologically) it brings a sense of calmness that rivals that of Snoops Cali endo.. Give yourself a food-gasm and try the bbq ribs which rival the neighboring chris'n'pitts. Two words to describe this joint 1'Finger 2Likin'

My wife and I went there last Saturday for dinner. I ordered the cashew chicken and she ordered the egg fu young. Very disappointed in dinner. No taste in the food and very bland with no spice. Would not recommend this restaurant at all to any of my friends. Don't waste your time or money.

Ok so Ming's ..I have basically seen this restaurant my whole LIFE!! My grandma lived in that area and I remember as a small child she would always order Ming's. Now I am always a fan of something retro,Old skool and kitchsy and classic..in no particular order of course and I knew I would surely find one of those traits in this restaurant..and Yes I did! There are NO windows in the front and the front entrance is right front forward facing the busy Bellflower Blvd. It may look a little dark and to some possibly closed but it is in fact open. ( Do not confuse it with their express Chinese food adjacent to the restaurant) When you walk in the first thing you notice is the bright Orange Vinyl horseshoe booths. There are tons of old Chinese art covered on the walls, a few hanging lanterns...basically very old fashion kinda like probably how it looked in the Mid Century..Which I can appreciate..It is rather tacky but in a good way! We sat in the Corner Horseshoe booth and our Chinese waitress was very very pleasant. SERVICE AAAAA++++ We were handed the menus ( which look like they were the original menus from the 50's/ 60's but laminated) and happy to see Family style menu options! We ordered our food ( dinner for 2 for 22.95) which was Just the right amount of food They had some hot tea at the table which was very fresh tasting, then we had the Won Ton soup...BEST WON TON SOUP!! They brought out on a pedestal silver serving dish the fried rice which was amazing fresh..we ate every grain of rice off that thing! The Ribs..O...M...G.. the rich in honey and orange glaze over them just fantastic. Broccoli Beef...I know for me most of the time when I order broc and beef I am chewing on that damn beef for like Days...at Ming's it MELTS in your mouth never had broc and beef like that before The egg roll--YUM!! Chow Mein---Holy Moly..what does it not have in it..it has everything!! Anyhoo..I could go on and on about the wonderful food...everything was delish!! If your looking just for some Old school well known been in business for years with regular customers that been attending for 30+ years , good food, good service but not overly loud and crowded..this is THEE place to go!

I grew up in Long Beach and Ming's has been a family favorite since the early 1960s for us, usually with Mother's cousin who lived in Lakewood. It was my father's favorite Chinese restaurant bar none, and since moving to Riverside any time we were near it (meaning within 20 miles) he would want to go. Last month we went for dinner after his burial at age 92. Coincidently it's near my partner's parent's home, so we still get there frequently. Enjoy the chow mein, chop suey, and the very best egg flower soup for nostalgia. Kung pao and hot-and-sour soup you can get anywhere these days. And I can't figure out how someone commented that they didn't get enough food.

I LOVE Chinese food. All of it! From authentic family owned places to the American styled dishes served in most So Cal places. I dont usually review the Chinese fast Food chain stores, so many of the "Fast Food" cafeteria style places lack the quality and freshness I prefer. But the is Mings! This Mings review goes with my review on Dragon Gate Express, which is in the same building as Mings here. Please see my review on Dragon Gate for the details on that place, but i mention it because they are located in the same building, and I think have the same owners. Mings is a fairly priced super fresh quality family restaurant. I nice sized menu with several family combo dinners as well as lists of ala carte items. Dinner for two can be had for less than $30. Dinner number 2 is my favorite. With; soup, handmade eggrolls, Almond Chicken, bean sprout and chicken chow mein, pork fried rice and tender sweet roasted spare ribs at $9.99 per person. When I order dinner for two, my companion and I usually have to take close to half of it home. Very good portions and I cannot express how fresh all the ingredients taste. Never dried out or over done, just tasty good food. They always bring you fortune cookies and almond cookies with the check. Super friendly service from everyone and very attentive waiters. Another side note is they serve Japanese and Chinese Beers and a small selection of wine. Wrap up; Mings is probably my favorite Chinese Family restaurant in the Lakewood/Bellflower area. This is no fast food place, its a delicious Mandarin/Cantonese style place which is worthy to impress any out of town guest or someplace to take a first date. I must agree with some of the other reviewers that the decor is of 60's-70's vintage, but the service and superbe quality of the food more than makes up for the Brady Bunch look of the dining room. i guess I dont really notice, I have been coming here for 30 years! My insider tip: They do "food to go" pick up orders. when you have the next ball game watching party and everyone is in the mood for something other than Burgers and Dogs, call up Mings. if you have abut 6-8 people, order 4 of the #2 dinners and an extra order of ribs, you'll have plenty of food for the whole crowd and it will be about $50.00!

Even one star is an overstatement. I have no clue how this place has an overall 3 1/2 star rating. Where to begin... Our waitress forgot about us within three 25-minute intervals. We requested water four times and had to wait until a different server passed by to ask for it. When he returned, he didn't care to offer and serve it for us, he just slammed it on the table and walked away. The waitress also forgot our lo mein and rice. We sat at our table and watched as she served other tables their food and water (keep in mind, they arrived and ordered nearly 20 minutes after us). When she decided to make an appearance to our table the only thing she has to say was, "I so sorry!" She offered us FREE water! How generous, right? That's just the service portion of this place. The food was awful! Never before have I tasted Chinese food with so much oil and grease. This place makes Panda Express look like 5-star rating gourmet cuisine! Horrible food, horrible service, and horrible atmosphere. If anybody is on Yelp looking specifically for Chinese food, go to Peking Restaurant on Downey Avenue. You'll get much better service and much better food for a much better price! Save yourself the time and stomach ache!

Amazing food and great price, what more can i say?? My new favorite Chinese food restaurant! Me and my family come here at least once a month or more. They know us here lol. The food quality is delicious and very good service!! My favorite it the veggie low mein and shrimp fried rice. Their egg flower soup is also yumzo! And if you are able to make it for lunch special during the week you should definitely do so.. you will NOT believe the receipt once you get it!! o_o Side note.. i am wondering if they are family restaurants with Yangtzes in Ontario, Ca. Same favor and same type of food display and dishes.. Both are to die for :)

It's been years since I've eaten food from this restaurant. The place has changed over the years, but the food hasn't since I was a toddler back in the '80s. The only addition I've noticed was an adjacent building for take-out. This restaurant is very dive-y and the interior design gives off this vintage 60s-70s vibe even though the restaurant was established in 1952. It is a mix of old American diner, traditional Chinese decor, bonzai trees, and a little bit of Feng Shui (with the mirored windows). The noise level is pretty average; the only noise I hear come from all the shouting in the kitchen and the Classic Rock blasting in the background towards the back of the restaurant, but that's typical of old restaurants like this. What better way than to enjoy a Chinese fast food meal with Led Zeppelin, Billy Idol and Tom Petty? :-D I must say that the food was delicious. I ordered the "No. 1" meal off of the menu because it had Egg Foo Young. If you want comfort food, go try this! The meal also comes with a vegetable/meat soup, chow mein with some slices of duck meat, fried rice, and sweet and sour pork. Of course, there's fortune and almond cookies to top it all off. This is a meal fit for an Emperor/Empress of Chinese-American diners. :-D The customer service was excellent. The waiters made sure I was enjoying my meal. The parking lot is small, but I had no trouble finding a spot since I went on a weeknight. Otherwise, my alternative would have been to park on the street. Overall, I will most likely pay another visit to try the other foods that are in the menu. This is a great place to eat for a quick and cheap dinner. :-)

Ming's has been around forever, and there's a reason for that. The chow mien (the one with bean sprouts) is unique, and absolutely amazing. I go with the mindset of trying something different each time I visit, and each time I end up with chow mein.

When I'm in the area, this is the place for reasonably priced, tasty Chinese. I love the BBQ ribs, fried rice and egg rolls. They have the closest thing to East coast Chinese food that I've found. If this statement resonates with you - all the better. I love the low key booths. Time stands still inside - stuck in the early 60's. Eating here is an escape from the 21st century.

You know.. It's the kind of place where you know the food isn't so fantastic, but you know it's not going to taste like crap. We went there last night to save ourselves from another night of Turkey. It was a toss up between here and Thai Basil. It was closer.. For $23 you can get the dinner for two. It comes with egg flower soup, pork spare ribs, egg rolls, combo fried rice, chow mein (fat noodles), orange chicken, and beef n broccoli. We always order an extra soup for the little one ($1.50). Sometimes they don't charge us extra for that. Tea also comes with the meal. Think we drank two pots. I'm not a fan of the orange chicken. It's a bit crispy for my liking. And the fried rice is too dark and a bit greasy. But the Sweet n Sour Pork and Egg Foo Yung like Rosie said are the best dishes. Anyways, we go here about once a month cause we know the food is decent. And the service is pretty darn good. They're fast and don't really talk much. Although they are definitely friendly towards the kids. They always come out with a small toy or extra cookies to take home.

Their food is authentically Chinese, I give them that. But they're the only Chinese restaurant I know that opens at 11:30am, and I normally hunt for food at around 11:00am. Little do they know how much money they've lost from my patronage, simply because they weren't open early enough. Also, their servings aren't exactly generous, but what made me decide never to go back was when I ordered their salt-and-pepper pork chop from the dinner menu which cost me more than $8, only to receive a small tiny box that contained probably just about 2 to 3 pork chops worth of meat. All food orders I've made with this restaurant have all been to-go, simply because I could not get myself to eat inside. It's very dark, dank, so atypical from Chinese restaurants of their genre (i.e., the real authentic restaurants) in my area (which all open at 10:00am, by the way). It's just sad, I did like their food, but not enough to put up with all their flaws.

I haven't been to this place in 15 yrs and it's still really good. I can't find egg foo young like theirs anywhere. The vegetable spring rolls are delicious. They almost taste buttery. Garlic chicken was just the right amount of spicy.

Let me start of by saying I only it give it 3 stars due to the service! Food wise = 5 Food is always great, service not so much! My family has been going to this place for more then 10 yrs! Everything was great until new owners, waitress and staff came along! This one Asian waitress is so rude! I hate her guts....she acts like you are there to serve her when it's the other way around! (btw she's tall and where's glasses so keep an eye out for her) Love the egg rolls!!! Never too packed!

Was in the mood for some Chinese Food so I decided to come to Ming's. I did like on how the place looked. The menu was simple, with dinner combo's. The food how ever did lack some flavor mainly the fried rice. The one thing i found odd was the egg roll, its was one super size cut in slices. I was not willing to try it just by the way it looked. Here are the few +'s of the joint, BBQ ribs, portions, & price. It had a reminder of ol chinese places of the 80's-90's (not a bad thing) but I think I won't be visiting Ming's again. It's not the worst I've ever had, but I do know where it's better for the same price.

Where do I start with this place? Could it be the stale 70's deco or the fact they serve you ketchup instead of sweet n sour? Now living in this area you'd think beggars can't be choosers when it comes to dank food? Wrong! Tons of diamonds in the rough around here Mings just isn't one of them. Still a piece of coal. So here is why this place is horrible. Please get in your car and go somewhere else. (At this point anywhere is good) You walk in, fake plants galore. (maybe a side hustle) walking in and accessing the place you think alright might be do-able. Wrong! I'm with my lady and my homie Beaver. Beaver orders shrimp lo mein. Me and the lady order there Oh So Popular, (according to 1 of 2 twin looking waitresses) dinner for 2. Orange chicken, beef n broccoli, spare ribs, egg roll, fried rice, and house chow mein. We see the won ton chip deal served with what's that? Ketchup? Seriously? After ordering waters all around due to there limited bev selection the food starts to trickle out. First thing up is spare ribs and what I thought was supposed to be egg roll. Instead it looks like a deep fried asian meatloaf. How do you say salty as f**k in Mandarin? Cuz ya I might need to see my Doctor after this. Ribs were good, you could tell they've been waiting to be put out a bit. Sauce is rather stuck to it. The egg roll was horribly salty. I'm not picky. Trust me. You don't get this awesome figure being picky. Entrees come. Beavers shrimp lo mein had a soft green tint to it. Ya green. She took 2 bites and pounded half her water. First impressions people. Orange chicken is giblets and other non edible chicken parts deep fried or heated up n microwave, drizzled with some orange liquid. My lady loves loves loves orange chicken. This not so much. Beef n broccoli was just straight up normal b n b. Nothing bad nothing good. The fried rice tasted like the grill scrapings. Seriously gross. I wish I could be over dramatic. The house chow mein was disgusting. It tasted like it was soaked in Top Ramen and chicken noodle soup then marinated with more salt. The water glasses were so water stained I couldn't see through. I don't get how this place was semi packed and they had multiple phone orders as well. I seriously don't get it. Worst chinese food ever had. I don't recommend this to anyone even if your friend offers to pay. I had to take all the food home and the waitress was like "oh you no hungry?" I didn't want to say that next time just serve me a bowl of salt n grill scrapings. Payed 23$ and didn't eat a single leftover. AVOID AT ALL COST| How can people make this there Christmas traditional dinner spot? If you have taste buds, and you care about them, then keep driving past.

Just ordered the Egg Foo Young, Fried Rice, Sweet n Sour Pork, Chicken Chow Mein and Fried Noodles (yummy) which i hadn't seen in ages. After finishing my dinner i felt like I went back 35 years when my Dad use to take the family out to a traditional Chinese restaurant. This place is clean, cozy, and nicely decorated. Perfect place for the family, date or friends. Okay now the FOOD. I'm a picky eater and I must say the food was absolutely DELICIOUS !!!!!!

Mings is an icon in Bellflower Ca. ( My hometown) It's been open since 1952... well established. I just had dinner there last night after being out of the area for years. It's still the same. Very quaint decor ( looks like a movie set for an old chinese restaurant ) and orange vinyl covered upholstery. Food is tasty, low prices. It's not a restaurant for anyone pretentious orr seeking a finer dining establishment, but rather someone who is seeking just plain good food at really decent prices.

I started going here with my grandma 30+ years ago and still like it as much as day one. I think the ownership has changed recently but the menu has stayed the same. The egg rolls, fried rice and chicken chow mein is the best I have ever eaten. They did add a dollar chinese place to the outside of the place so make sure you get the right place when you go, you will know by the cork ceilings and the and old school decor.

I use to go here all the time because its close to our house... I thought the food was good and the restaurant is vintage... looks like its from the late 60s early 70's? But, my husband doesnt care for Chinese, took him there once and he didnt like it.... food good prices ok, atmosphere: Vintage...

The food: They had the best Mongolian beef. Even my mom insisted on ordering it for an upcoming get together. We also had the chicken dish with snow peas. Very nice. They also fill you up with crunchy noodles, fortune cookies (which were given at the beginning of the meal...huh?) and almond cookies at the end. The decor/ambiance: It's like a scene from the TV show M*A*S*H. Giant fake bonsai and cherry blossom trees surrounded the red vinyl lined booths. Interesting. We showed up on a Saturday @ 12:00, and there were only 2 parties there besides ours. Where is everybody? Unfortunately, this is somewhat a reflection on this part of town where some of the businesses on Bellflower Blvd. have closed down. The service: Well, for only a few customers, they seemed over staffed. There were three servers, two of them seemed nice, but one, who was ours, acted like she was being bothered by our requests for the menus, our orders, and hello, the check. Not nice. You know, there's something missing about this place (other than customers--joke!) that I couldn't put my finger on earlier... Now I know: Where's the dim sum? Where are the ladies with the carts? Where's the shu mai? The chicken feet? Waaaa! I don't know if the Mongolian beef is enough for me to come back. I guess not all Chinese (Americanized) restaurants do the dim sum.

I've been eating at Mings since I was a kid and ever since they remodeled and added the fast food portion to the restaurant it's been down hill fast. Their rating is a B and the food quality is now terrible. It's so sad because they were the best around. Unfortunately there's nothing they can do to get me back.

My family and I really don't like Chinese food so we never came to this place. One day we were with my wife's family and they wanted chinese so we went here. The decor was classic 70's chinese food place. It was awesome. We ordered our food and it was served family style, which was great because we could sample everything, and I did. Awesome!!!\ The food was really good. You know how when you go to a chinese food place the food is greasy, well this food wasn't. It was really flavorful and fresh. The staff was nice and friendly and always there when we needed something. I recommend coming to this place with your family. It's great. See you there.

Went to mings last night because my boyfriends gma wanted mings for mothers day. Arrived early thinking they could be busy. One they weren't and still sat me and my boyfriend by the kitchen, which at this time dishes were being washed. The smell of the kitchen was vomiting, so we asked to move so now we are sat in a three person table but we would have five of us, once again I asked to move and no one in the place knew who was serving who. Moved now for the third time, now I have a headache. While waiting it took twenty min to get a cold glass for our beer and nothing else. After an hour one beer no food and a headache we left. Don't ever go here because you will get a headache and want to kill ppl. Once we were moved to our table to wait we basically ignored for at least 30 min. No service or anything. We were very disappointed and will not be returning there.

Yikes, what can I say heard they closed down for a kitchen remodel apparently they don't have the same cook. First the egg rolls have been a favorite for years, they were greasy and cold. Next the hot and sour soup was sweet and not hot. The noodles were bland and tasted store bought, the beef was well unidentifiable. Egg foo young bland and cold. When I told the manager the food was horrible and that we left the majority on the table all he could say was "sorry". The waitress stated that everyone loves the food, that could be true judging from all the trailer parks in bellflower! I was so disgusted with everything I will NEVER go back.

The décor is definitely what I used to see in old movies of how a "Chinese Restaurant" is supposed to look. I, personally liked it. The pagoda, the silk embroidery pictures, the bonsai trees, very kitchy. The food was good. I had the Almond Chicken Chow Mien, my hubby had the orange chicken. I liked mine, he loved his. The service was, well, just odd. Not bad or rude, and our needs were attended to, but the servers were just a bit, the only way I can describe it is, off. I wouldn't make it a regular hang out, but I would definitely go again now that I know that it's there. Really, quite charming and unique.

I've been coming here since I was a child in the 70s. Can't believe it is still open. I live in NYC now, but I can't wait to get back to SoCal and eat at MINGS again! The best Egg Rolls and gosh, best Everything!

This place is a tradition with my family on Christmas Eve. My all-time favorite is the Egg Foo Yung and Sweet and Sour Pork. They also make a nice Beef with Green Peppers. I'm not sure if I consider that a Chinese dish though.

We went to Ming's last night. Will never go back there. Have gone there for forty or more years. It has changed. We ordered for three. She brought for four. Practically threw food on the table. Didn't set it nicely. We all had to get our own bowl of soup and plates. Waitress was tall, skinny and rude! She sat at a back table and watched us, as we were the only ones in there! Now I know why! A man finally entered for a pick up order, only to be left standing at the counter while she got her food and ate! He was getting annoyed. About the time she came out with her second plateful, she glanced over and saw that we were ready to leave, she just shrugged her shoulders and sat down and ate. We got up, went to counter, paid bill to some one who had to come from the back, and obviously NO TIP. But I will give you a tip. Don't go there. Our food was cold and tasteless! I only did one star, to post this!

I am so happy that Mings finally has management that really truly gives a damn! it took some time, but they have really turned it around! The food is as good as it was with the original owner.

Two words that every vegetarian needs to hear: Orange tofu. Mings rocked it! They had a long wait but we didn't mind- they were so apologetic and kind. The food came out fast- and ask for vegetarian specialties that aren't on the menu. They had a lot of choices and everything we ate was some of the best chinese food I've had in california!

I found out this place has been in business for 55 years. The new Chinese restaurant attached on the north side of the building is owned by the same owner, but it's just a different style. Apparently they boil the food in water at Ming's, but the other place boils the food in oil so it's not as healthy (so says one of the employees). Ming's is a sit down place, and the next door place is a more fast food style. This food was alright - got plenty of variety out of their "meal for 2" including soup, fried roll, orange chicken, 4 pork ribs, broccoli beef, a chow mein with mushrooms and shrimp, plus fried rice with chicken in it, and shrimp on top. Came with hot tea. The orange chicken was about 10 pieces, though, with lettunce underneath it to make it look bigger. Anyway, it was still quite a bit more food than we could eat with two people for $24+tip. Service was very prompt and nice, however the place was not very busy at all since we went a little late. The restaurant currently has a "B" rating posted, FYI.

We've been going there for over 20 years. It was originally a family run business passed down to the oldest son. He sold it about 5 years or so, but one of the waiters is now a partial owner. The food has remained good and the menu hasn't changed. Neither, has the decor. That aside the food is good and the staff is friendly.

5 of us went today for lunch. Just to be fair, I want to disclose our mission is to find another cantonese style retaurant after our family favorite Tin Sing in Gardena closed down. So, we ordered dishes similar to our Tin Sing favorites and did a memory lane comparision. It's nearly impossible to expect the food to be like Tin Sing, so it's not fair for me to judge Ming's food, so keep that in mind when you read this review. The House Special Chow Mein wasn't like Tin Sing, but was as good as any chow mein you can find. The big difference is there was more sauce than expected. I expect a chow mein to be a noodle dish as opposed to a thick soup. The Sweet and Sour Pork was okay. The pork wasn't over-breaded. It didn't look like a tempura ball like other places would serve. The sweetness wasn't there. It was more sour than sweet. The bellpeppers was soggy. There wasn't any onions either. If you ever had Tin Sing Sweet and Sour Pork, you would understand. Tin Sing's vegetables are closer to raw than soggy. The pineapple, bellpeppers and white onions bursted with flavor. Ming's on its own merit was good, but not a replacement for Tin Sing.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
