So the joke starts out.. what happens when a vietnamese person, two chinese peopel walk into an indian restaurant... Sorry. I suck at telling jokes. But let me tell you my experiene at Udupi Palace [service] Basically we were the only non Indians in the restaurant and I have to say the service was really stellar. The owner (?) was extremely nice and helped guide us through the menus. [dosas] As I'm sure you will know this place is known for dosas. Umm.. and I have to say if you want a good review of the dosas, its best to read another review because for me, I really don't have a good contextual comparison of a good one vs a bad one. They were crunchy and soft.. and umm.. should it taste like anything else? Actually the last time I had a dosa was in london in the theater district and it was PHENOMONAL. [weird stuff] So.. afterwards the owner (or watier I guess) came by offering us some lollipops. He smiled and left the entire bowl at our table. We were thinking like, "do they only give non Indians the lollipops'? 5 minutes elapsed and this huge bowl of lollipops was at our table. We were looking at each other puzzled and laughing why it was here. We later asked for to go boxes when a lady came by with a bag. We were thinking "what the heck, you want us to take home these lollipops??" and after much confusion it was for the to go boxes. I don't know why but we were very amused with the lollipop situation as when the lollipop bowl was at our table, families would come by and ask if we could have some?!?! So umm.. anyways, this place gets 4 stars for really good service, and good food. Honestly I've had better dosas (unfair comparison with London), but it's pretty solid. I'd come back here for another weird lollipop experience.
Great South Indian food. Has only vegetarian food here, but a great opportunity to try some good South Indian food. Rava Dosa was not that good, but idli, and regular dosa were really good. Service was good.
I remember coming here for the first time at the recommendation of my old college roommate, who's a South Indian. The food here caters mainly to a vegetarian diet, and I remembering ordering a dosa will some type of filling in it. I can't remember exactly, as my friend placed the order for me. I do remember that it was good though. The samosas they were serving for the lunch special were also pretty good...I recommend those as well for appetizers. Service was good, and they take credit cards, which is important. The waiters kept refilling my water glass promptly, which was much appreciated as well. We were fortunate enough to find street parking right outside the restaurant. I would imagine most people would have to park in a residential neighborhood nearby or the parking structure down the street and walk a small distance on most other days/nights. I will surely come back here to satisfy my hankering of South Indian fare.
