Once took care of a family member's house nearby, and I binged on this pizza from Bernardos, it was so good, relative to pizza in Yuma. I mean, I nearly died from just eating pizza a whole week, but believe me it was worth it 10/10 would die again for this pizza. If I were stuck in the foothills that is...

Definitely 1 of the best places in arizona I brandon to this place because I had to use the restroom as was passing through to go to san diego. Food was so good that I had to stop there on the way up and back. I talked to mark who was a class act and was willing to make me food to go as well. Best service and stromboli west off the Mississippi

The owner's so nice! He'll make you anything you want! I ordered a veggie sandwich, which apparently, he didn't think was good enough for me and he really wanted to add some meat onto the thing to spice it up for me but I kindly declined (what a mistake that was). The veggie sandwich was DELISH!! The bread roll must be freshly baked everyday there or something! It was fantastic! So soft and chewy! The perfect texture for bread! Not hard or crunchy. Just exactly the way I like bread! The veggies were a mixture of spinach, onions, tomatoes, cheese and other veggies I didn't recognize but it was seasoned to perfection!!! I really want to go back and try their Stromboli! I heard such good things about it! Cant wait until I come back! Yum!! It's a really small place, a few benches/tables outdoors, so I'd probably recommend you get take out instead of eating there. They also close really early, like around 7pm, so plan accordingly!

We called to check what time they were open until the other day (around 5pm on a Saturday) and they said they were out of food! I'll give Bernardo's another try but we're off to a not so great start...

We stopped in on our way to San Diego. Great, friendly service on top of a steakbomb sandwich that was the bomb. The green chili was fabulous. Counter seating inside and 3 picnic tables outside. My husband loved his pizza. It is cash or check only!

Absolutely amazing. Hands down best cheese steak I've ever had. Bombsteak recommended. Wish i had the appetite to try the other stuff (hoagies, pizza, strombolis). Soft white sub roll and steak grilled to perfection with the perfect amount of veggies/cheese mixed in. They have a great green chili salsa to top it off with. Side notes: cash only. There's an atm around the corner.

The best pizza and stromboli on this side of the Mississippi. They have a small menu they've perfected. They are always in chipper moods and look happy to be at your service. I always order a pizza with tomatoes and spinach and it never disappoints. they are willing to make vegetarian stromboli if I let them know in advance that I'll be ordering. Overall great place that deserve the reputation it has!

Welp! Yelp did it again! Another hidden gem discovered. On our way to San Diego I found our family needing a pit stop. This was the perfect place! It's definitely a local family owned hotspot. We were welcomed in and treated like friends. Thanks guys and gals!!! The Medium pizza(also the only size pie you can get) was ready in about 10 minutes and came with small plates, napkins and extra homemade hot sauce! I'm not a dipper of pizza but you will want to if you like a spicy kick! Pizza is a thin crust style with giant thin slices of pepperoni layered over the homemade red sauce. I ordered mushrooms because I like them and they didn't disappoint! Fresh fungi makes all the difference. This was a to go order and eaten in the car. Covered ourselves in napkins and ate it all! Menu is small but I'd imagine the Steak Hoagies and Stromboli are worth a try! Very limited seating inside and a few tables outside. Not recommended for large groups wanting to dine-in.

Great little spot for a pizza or cheesesteak. It's tiny. Like a counter and one table inside only. The bombsteak is a traditional pizza steak in Philly. The bread us fresh the ingredients are fresh. Great spot! Try some of the salsa on your sandwich. Green was my choice and it added another flavor detention to every bite.

We come to Yuma two or three times a year, Bernardo's is a must. We used to only get Stromboli's but then we tried the Steak Bomb, DELICIOUS!! Now Stromboli and peppers are to go. If you haven't been, try it you won't be disappointed

  • Ann D.

Use to come here in high school because the Stromboli was to die for. 10+ years later it is better than remember. Love this place!!!

Great local shop. Ham and tuna was good. Steak and mushroom sub was excellent. Great bread makes the shop. Nice friendly owner cooks up and makes hoagie in front as you wait. $15 for two sandwiches. So much better than any chain. Cash only. Located on south side of strip mal

The service was ok. But my pizza was not cooked all the way and had way too much cheese on it. I can't imagine that it would have been much better then Lil Caesar's even if it were thoroughly cooked. I may try them a Stromboli next time but definitely not a pizza.

I had to drive back to San Diego in order to pack up my house and get the hell out of dodge. A man has to eat at some point though, right? I never stop in Yuma for anything other than gas really. That changed today. I was craving pizza and saw the fantastic reviews for the Stromboli here. I decided to stop in and check it out. I got a bit lost at first. I parked in the main lot and saw the sign for Bernardos out on the marquee. I couldn't find it though lol! Turns out that its on the far end in the corner...you kind of have to walk between buildings and then its there. I posted a picture of me sitting out front looking at the street...hope that helps. I walked in and knew immediately what I was going to get. The Steak Stromboli, Price was $16.00. When I saw the price, I flinched a bit...seemed a little steep. When you are craving something though, price doesn't/shouldn't matter. I placed my order with the owner? and grabbed a Coke out of the fridge. He asked if I was eating it here, or to go and I told him I would be sitting outside on their picnic style benches. He asked if I wanted peppers with it and I replied with a definite YES! A guy brought out a plate, napkins, silverware and a glass of ice for my Coke. About 10 minutes later, my Stromboli had arrived. Here is how it was.................... Steak Stromboli- Wow! Instantly impressed! They bring this massive creation out on a paddle about 2 feet long. This paddle would make any frat boy proud! They also brought out 2 giant bowls of peppers. One of them was a green chile and the other was, I am assuming cherry pepper (it looked like salsa but had oils in it and was spicy). I took a bite into the Stromboli and was in heaven. They stuff this thing full of steak, spinach, garlic and a few different kinds of cheeses. They then top it with some parmesean cheese all while being wrapped up in some great tasting dough. This thing should not be attempted to be eaten by one man. I'm no pussy though and started to devour it slowly but surely. The steak was cooked well, moist and delicious. Almost had a shredded beef type texture to it. The cheeses were plentiful and the spinach and garlic tied it all together. I ate all but a little piece of crust. It was gut bomb and it was fantastic! Even though its pricey, its well worth it. After I was done, I went inside to pay. The owner asked how I liked it to which I replied, "One man should not be able to eat that much...it was so delicious though I came pretty close". He was so impressed that he gave me a break on the price lol. My meal should have been $16.00 plus whatever the Coke was. The guy told me to give him $15.00 and we were square. I left a couple of bucks tip and was on my way. If I am ever in Yuma during lunch again, I will definitely come back. I want to try out their sandwiches and maybe even their Chicken Stromboli. If its anywhere near as good as the steak one, it is sure to be a winner. Service was EXTREMELY friendly and overall this is a nice mom and pop joint serving up great food!

Best Stromboli sandwiches I have ever had. The service there was great. Nice personable people. Not a long wait. The sandwiches ARE huge so beware. Definitely recommend.

Great pizza great service! little place that is hard to find on the back side of the building but it was worth the find. It is a smaller place with a bar inside to eat at and and outdoor area as well. The pizza taste homemade and the crust was awesome. The people were really friendly and asked us about out trip since we were on our way to San Diego from Phoenix. Would definitely go back and it was a refreshing change from a drivethru we usually hit up on the road.

My wife and I were traveling from Phoenix to Carlsbad CA and stopped at Bernardos both going to Carlsbad and then coming back home a week later. We both ordered a meatball sandwich on our first stop and boy was this an absolutely great sandwich!! Great toasted bun, very tasty marinara sauce and three huge meatballs on each sandwich. As far as meatball sandwiches go, this is the best I ever had. Coming home we both had bombsteak sandwiches and these were excellent as well. Whereas the meatball sandwich had more than enough meatballs, the bombsteak could have used a little more beef. This was a minor issue as the sandwich was tremendous tasting. Really loved the friendly people working there as well. This is a family owned business and it seems like all people working there really love what they do..............customers are treated really well here. The only downside is that there is very limited seating, If you are stopping there during Spring, Fall or Winter, then the outside tables would be a good choice if the inside seats are taken. We stopped there during non prime time, so had no issue with seating. We highly recommend and will stop there every chance we travel thru Yuma.

The Stromboli was amazing. It was spinach, steak and cheese. It could feed 3 people. Pizza is also amazing. Dough, sauce, cheese and all other ingredients taste FRESH. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

The owner offers amazing customer service!! Always knows us when we walk in. The Food it's AMAZING!!! My biggest regret waiting so long before trying this place. I'm obsessed with the Italian, I usually ask for it steamed. The salsa is homemade and it's excellent. I come from an Italian community on the East coast and this food reminds me of home!

I live in Yuma and we go here frequently. The small size and family atmosphere, behind the counter, absolutely make the experience. The food is awesome. I had the owner tell me, years ago to try the ham & tuna hoagie and if I didn't like it it was free. Needless to say, I paid for it and have eaten nothing else here for 15 years. (Gotta have it with the green pepper sauce) The Stromboli is also amazing!

When you are in the mood for one of Bernardo's meatball subs, NOTHING else compares!! This is our favorite place to eat in Yuma. Wonderful service and quality of food.

Our family favorite place to go out and eat. Excellent food. Everything is good and don't forget to try their home made chiles and sauce. The staff is awesome!!!

The bombsteak was awesome. Great local business that does it right. Fresh ingredients (great bread) and the staff are super friendly and easy going. With so many chains in Yuma that are pretty boring you should definitely check this place out if you're in the mood for a hot sandwich. Get the green chili topping if you like it spicy.

Who would've thought a place like this would exist in Yuma Az?? Awesome philly style subs, this guy knows what he's doing! If you don't like manufactured tasting sandwhiches, and want something authentic, and tasty, please come here! A great food option if you are traveling through Yuma, and don't want the typical drive through fare. Service is AWESOME! The owner is super friendly and eager to please. He even discounted all our sandwhiches for us. Great guy with a great East-Coast personality. Do try the steakbomb and if you are not so into steak, the tuna with ham was off the hook! :)

The best vegetarian pizza ever. The stromboli was magnificent. Nice people work there. Ask for both red and green pepper sauce. I heard that The Bomb sandwich rocks!!!

Good food made even better by super-friendly service! We had a cheesesteak and a pizza. The hoagie was really good, made with quality meat. We'll definitely stop here again when we travel from San Diego to PHX to visit family,

If you are ever traveling from San Diego to AZ, you must go by way of Yuma so that you can stop by this gem of a place! Specifically, you must try the Stromboli at Bernardos! OMG, with spinach, steak, cheese & garlic wrapped in a crispy crust, it is a perfectly balanced meal in itself (actually 2 or 3 meals, depending on how big an eater you are)! The owner, Mark, and his crew are all charming and know their stuff! I've watched the sandwiches being made and I'm sure they are amazing, and I have sampled the meat pizza, which was dee-lish, but my heart belongs to Stromboli! It puts the YUM in Yuma! (I can't believe I just wrote that.)

Sam's Bernardos used to be in Hayward CA, next to Kaiser Hospital. I can remenber it well.....The Bomb Steak sands were one of my favs along with the Strombolli. Sam, why did you leave. I need a Bomb Steak fix or at the very least the resipie for your sauce. Hayward misses you!

  • Bill S.

Very small inside but picnic tables outside. Steak hogie was fantastic, best ever. Meatball hogie not so good. Pizza had the best sauce I have ever had but too much cheese. I will ask for less cheese next time. No beer but you can bring your own beer or wine if you eat outside.

  • Paula K.

What a tiny hidden gem this place is! I got a veggie hoagie, and not only did it weigh about 10 pounds, it was delicious! It had the best garlic spinach cooked hot as can be and spread in their homemade bread and covered in cheese. Then they give you a spicy marinara to dunk it in - are you kidding me?! It's worth the drive to the foothills just for this! It's in the back of the building so don't be discourage if you can't find it - it's worth hunting for!

I have never found a tastier stromboli...anywhere! I recommend it with the green chile sauce. I also love their pepper steak sandwich- AS IS...and I'm always one to ask for substitutions or changes. Their sweet iced tea has a lemon flavor to it, and it is so refreshing. Mark, the owner, is so friendly and makes you feel like family. Everyone there is very attentive. I just wish there was another another location in town (as opposed to the only location in the Foothills).

Sometimes you just meet that out of this world food that spoils you for anything else. Bernardo's is such a place. It still is, in spite of the change in preparation. I grew up in Yuma, on a Stromboli that was so incredible that no restaurant could do it justice. In fact, after trying a few different restaurants' "Stromboli", I gave up, threw in the towel and declared Bernardo's the undisputed king of Stromboli, still is. But then the recipe changed. Don't know when, I do know how, I mean I grew up on this epic masterpiece, but it changed. Even with the change it it still king, but to the initiated, it's not the same. I mourn its demise, even as I understand the reason that might be behind it, I still mourn. Because the ownership won't admit that the recipe is different. C'mon, give us regulars some credit. Don't tell us it's the same when it's not. Hands down it's still the best, but to those who don't remember the original recipe, it's a second class, close cousin. Still the best, and still the place I'll stop at anytime I'm in Yuma.

The best Stromboli in the south west. You can't ask for nicer business owners and quality of food. This place watches shop open and close around them when they keep up the same food quality they have been serving for decades. Keep it up guys!

  • Jessica B.

Best place ever!!! Everything is delicious especially smothered in their famous peppers. Owners are friendly and food is consistent. I've tried everything on the menu and I have not been disappointed. Stromboli of course is one of a kind. I wish they would package it up and sell it at the grocery stores where I live so that I can eat it more often.

Pizza was tasty but could have been browned more. Stromboli choices were chicken and steak. I'm used to Italian Stromboli w/ ham, salami, and cheeses w/ marinara sauce. Didn't care for their version. Owner and staff very friendly. Will try it again and see if they could do special requests.

Guess I'm going to try the sandwiches here. The pizza was not great. I asked for well done, and it came out a bit under done. Didn't realize it until I got back home. Nice folks, perhaps they forgot what I ordered. Kind of strange that the cheese was the final topping. It buried the sausage and pepperoni. Acquired taste? I'll report after trying what everyone else is raving about. Update December 2012: Ordered another pizza well done, and the owner said "crispy"? I said yes. Got it back home, and it was underdone, again. I'm done with the pizzas, but will go back for a Stromboli or steak hoagie. I will try again!

Great for takeout, not a lot of room inside other than a few barstools right there in the kitchen, but they have some picnic tables under the shade that we perfect. We ordered the steak and spinach stromboli and it was delicious. Asked for a side of marinara to dip it in and it was even more heavenly. The bread was fresh, the steak tender and the flavor was perfect! The owners were amazingly friendly, even knocked up some "pizza bread" off the menu for my two boys who are picky eaters. Will make this a regular stop on our way to CA for sure!

One of Yuma's Gems! When I left for college I had a friend over night me stromboli. I just cant stay away. I recommend the Stromboli and The Bomb! ask for them by name. I wish they would open a shop closer to the center of town. It's actually in the Foothills, but in Yuma that's just down the road. It is definitely worth the short trip. The service is top notch! After only two visits they knew my drinks and my usual order. Now I just call in and the food is ready by the time I arrive. On a down side, when the food is gone the restaurant is closed so hurry and don't wait too long. The red and green chile sauces go great with any dish!
