Casa Blanca Cafe On East Route 66 Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Nothing really stood out here. Food was fine, nothing special -- although the free chips and salsa were a cut above. The salsa in particular seemed homemade, with chuncks of onion and stuff. They weren't cheap with refills, either. YUM! I had chicken fajitas and my sister had the chicken sopapilla. Everything was fine, but nothing to write home about. Ambiance was a little weird -- when we came in around 4pm on a Friday afternoon, there was one other table, and no music or anything playing. I would call the ambiance borderline grim, actually. But overall, it was fine. Clean, friendly service, reasonable prices.

Quite disappointed. When we first stopped here 2 years ago, I had great blue corn enchiladas and every visit since has been going down hill. No more blue corn enchiladas on the menu. The tortillas taste like the grocery store and the red chili sauce tastes like it came out of a can of tomato paste with a little cinnamon tossed in. We won't be coming here again. Sorry.

The previous reviews were very misleading.. I guess everyone has different tastes because this food was very bland, the taco shell tasted like old oil, the meat had no seasoning and a faint odor that hinted at spoiling meat.. But, the service was great and the beer hit the spot! Good luck on your visit!

  • Jo B.

Wow, this food was bad! The main flavor was salt and I guess we got the surly waitress, because she was unpleasant. We should have left as soon as we got here.

Great food and great service! Love to support family owned restaurants. Highly recommend.

My first experience eating fry bread and it was great! I got the Navajo taco which was basically a sopa with beans and lettuce. Great prices and amazingly friendly staff. If you stop through, you should support this great little local gem.

This is a fantastic old-timey cafe with wonderful friendly staff who treat you like family. The food is diverse and delicious. You can get dishes that are hard to find anywhere else (blue corn enchiladas), and not just Mexican. I had liver & onions, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, a fresh green salad and a beer--all for under $10. Oh yes, they get you started with chips and great fresh salsa. A super find with the spirit of old Winslow!

Good mix of Mexican and New Mexican style food. Nothing beats Southern California Mexican food, but this was good. A good stop on the way to/from Albuquerque!

Oh, yum. Just yum. Navajo taco so good I posted pictures before I ate it. I do wish we had food like this in Iowa. Until then, I will just have to remember it in my dreams. His pork chop entree was pretty good, too. But, oh, that Navajo taco.

Despite receiving good service, I was disappointed with my visit based on the reviews. I ordered a beef burrito and guacamole. Burrito consisted of crock pot shredded beef and a store bought tortilla - not warmed up. A small side of shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes were the accompaniment. Guacamole consisted of avocados purified in a food processor. It tasted fine, but portion size was too small - maybe 3.5 ounces. Overall, the food was fresh, but didn't have much seasoning and was bland. The chips and salsa were oridinary and unremarkable. Restaurant located beside a run down duplex - parking lot was shady. My bill was $11.00 before tax and tip. Hardly worth it. Won't be returning.

Stopped here after visiting Meteor Crater. Mom got enchiladas with a fried egg, and I got green chile chicken enchiladas. Everything was really tasty! There was way more food than we could finish, especially when the waitress brought us sopaipillas after bringing out the entrees. I'd definitely visit here again.

  • Zoe B.

Holy moly this place has delicious food! Chimichanga with shredded beef and green sauce was amazing! Refried beans were some of the best I've ever had. Everything we ordered was delicious. Come here for some REAL delicious Mexican food!

    (5)
  • Brittany F.

I'm only giving this 2 stars because the waitress was extremely friendly and great at her job. I wish I could say the same for the cooks. Ordered the chimichanga, it looks pretty but the taste is underwhelming. My boyfriend and I both got incredibly sick within 20 minutes of eating here. I would never stop here again. Also there is a random guy that walks around the restaurant trying to sell jewelery... Tacky,

I visited with my boyfriend and his parents for his birthday. We had the Blue Corn Enchiladas. Fabulous. Great service and very friendly. It was a busy Friday night and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Will definitely be back.

    (5)
  • Daniel C.

It was pretty good. I would recommend the tamales. I had a #1 and that was my favorite part! The sopaipillas were okay but not worth the calories and the chips were bit stale. It was clean the wait staff was nice.

  • Vikkie B.

The restaurant was a small very open and friendly place. The food was delicious. We had chips and salsa which was good. The husband had the loaded taco chips from the appetizer menu and it was fantastic and a huge portion. I had the chile relino, enchilada and taco combination and ate less than half of it. The waitress was a very nice and sweet lady and she was working her tail off to make our and other customers happy!

  • Jessica L.

Well, I guess our money wasn't green enough. Wait, what color are pesos? Anyway, walked in at 7:0 on a Friday night. No one spoke. Awkward looks. We seated ourselves and waited. Waited. Waited. Oh here comes some chips and salsa... Not to us. Ok. Finally some big Mexican woman throws chips and salsa down and says "we're really busy". Ok fine. Chips were stale. Salsa was bland. Never took our drink order. We got up and left.

We always use Yelp and reviews to find a good local place to eat in our travels. We are proponents of supporting local business. That said - we gave Casa Blanca 5 stars - excellent, friendly service. We ordered the blue corn chicken enchilada - absolutely perfect - delicious... We will definitely stop again since we traverse Albuquerque to San Diego several times a year. We want to try their breakfast menu next time. Very clean and nicely decorated. A definite stop for anyone in need of home cooked meals!

  • Nicole P.

Located just a minute off the 40. Good amount of parking. Very nice waitress and ample amount of high chairs for children. Good combo of Mexican and American food. Free chips and salsa is always a plus. Well priced and nice decor

  • Joe G.

Locally owned - not much for ambiance, the service is a roll of the dice - sometimes excellent other times you could serve yourself faster, but the food is excellent and the daily specials are very good at a great price....my favorite here, believe it or not, is the meatloaf!

  • Sandy S.

Hard to find! Service was rude to non existent! The salsa and chips when I finally got the, well the salsa taste like fish! How? I have no idea! I thought it was the chips, that they had been fried in same vat as fish but it was the salsa, it was awful!! Could not eat it! Ordered the combination platter, green sauce. I will admit I wanted to hate the food because things started out so bad, unfortunately I did not! The corn tortillas where definitely store bought that part I did not care for but the rest of the platter was not bad. The beef was tasty. The beans and rice just average at best. I did not hate this but would not drive out of my way for the food or the rude/ non existent service.

I'm afraid Yelp failed us on this one. We were driving from the Grand Canyon to Santa Fe, NM along Route 66 and needed a place to stretch our legs and have a bite to eat -- this place got pretty good reviews so we decided to check it out. Something felt strange from the start, but I couldn't put my finger on what it was. It was Saturday night at 7pm, we walked in and doubled the crowd (the 2 of us made 4 people in the whole place). A server immediately greeted us, and was quick to come back and take our order. I ordered the Navajo taco based on the reviews I read. The food came really quickly. It was lukewarm. The sopaipillas tasted like they were fried in some really old oil and everything else just tasted kind of... blah. After a few bites, I just lost my appetite. It wasn't until we were leaving the restaurant that I looked around and realized what was so strange about the place - there were NO sounds of cooking and NO cooking smells coming from the kitchen. In fact, it didn't even look like the lights were on in there. Were we served old food that was just reheated in the microwave? Gross.

    (1)
  • Brianna P.

Horrible. If I could give a half star, I would. Food was bland, lukewarm and seemed like it came out of a can. Service was rude, but once the owner came out to check, tried seem as friendly as a dog. And tell me why the food came out on a hot plate but was cold in the middle? Can somebody say frozen microwave meals!!!!

  • Angie B.

We went here because we went to "stand on the corner in Winslow Arizona" now being what it's worth Mexican food out in the middle of nowhere, it was exactly what you would think it was. Crummy food. The service was fine the owners were very sweet, but the food was sloppy, watery sauce and not all that good for the price. I hate McDonald's but would rather have eaten there

    (2)
  • Bob I.

We stopped on our way back from visiting the meteor crater. The staff were very nice and the food was ok. I really enjoyed the chips and salsa.

  • Mike E.

Must have had my invisible hat on, as we sat there for 15 min and no one even acknowledged us. One waitress sat in the back eating and the other was talking about her felony search warrants . Went down the block to brown mug cafe and had great service and delicious food .

    (1)
  • Joseph H.

Nice family run place everyone there was really nice. The service was excellent (ended up leaving a 30% tip we liked the waiter so much). We got 2 burrito lunch specials. The servings were plentiful, the food tasted just okay. I do have to question the quality of the ingredients used and the preparation of the food. I'm a big Mexican food fan and eat it on a regular basis without issues, however the food from this place gave my wife and I serious digestive problems. I'm giving them 3 stars because I really liked the people that ran the place and think they deserve a second chance but I don't think I will be a repeat customer.

After a visit to the "Corner" it was time for lunch. A Yelp of dining places drew our attention here. It certainly was the right decision. Awesome grilled chicken tacos along with one of the best tamales I've ever eaten. Topped it all off with sopapillas & orange blossom honey. Definitely recommend this restaurant after your visit to that famous landmark.

I've been going there twice a year for 15 years, stopping whenever I pass through Winslow and stay at La Posada. The food is A+++. The owner, Helen, has been running the restaurant for over 30 years and she and her son, Gabriel, oversee all the cooking. The Chicken Fajitas is among the best I've ever had anywhere and I've eaten a lot of Mexican food. They tenderize their own meats, and cook everything fresh to order, which means some dishes take a while to make, but it's real home cooking. The best. And a fraction of the price of the excellent Turquoise Room at La Posada (and a whole different experience).

  • Wendy Camille A.

I haven't eaten here in quite a while, but I do remember being a fan. The customer service was so-so, but the food was delightful.

Based upon my buddy @ExJon's review, we decided to try Casa Blanca. It was not for the curb appeal, as it does not convey the experience that awaits you inside. The place is neat and quite popular with the locals. Apparently, it has been in business for 68 years which is mighty impressive given the ups and downs of the Winslow economy. The menu has pretty much the normal Sonoran/AZ mexican standards, plus a few twists. Sopapillas are a part of plan, as evidenced by me being glued to the naugahyde booth with stray honey. At most places, there is the eternal question: which is better, the red chile or the green chile? We asked and our server offered us a taste of each, which was very helpful. We preferred the red and ordered several dishes to check out the food... plus we were starving. The quality throughout was excellent. The red sauce was rich and earthy, the chicken for the chicken tacos was not bland shredded stuff, but well seasoned sauteed chunks. The portions were hearty and served on colorful Fiestaware. The service was efficient and we thought it reasonably priced for the quality of the food. It is just a half mile east of La Posada and definitely worth a detour.

We've driven by Casa Blanca several times in the past, but never stopped. We finally decided to give it a try based on a recommendation from one of the local business owners .. and we're glad we did. As we were reviewing the menu, a woman who was on her way out, stopped by to ask if this was our first time at Casa Blanca .. when we told her it was, she recommended we try the chicken soft tacos and the whole beans. Both were delicious! The chicken was grilled and incredibly tasty! The service was great and very accommodating. Can't wait to come back and try some other menu items in the future! This has become our new favorite restaurant in Winslow!

Country fried steak with creamy mashed potatoes was average. The vegetable side dish a typical heated up canned version. Generous portion for a hungry appetite though.

First, just to preface this- I live in Los Angeles. And you'd probably be surprised to hear, but there is a dirth of good Mexican food in LA. It's there, but it's few and far between. So this was our first food stop on our trek across country. First, you can judge a Mexican restaurant by it's salsa. Here they know that they've got good salsa, so they don't just drop off a small bowl with a basket of chips, well you get the basket and the bowl, but also a topless squeeze bottle full of salsa. I barely noticed the menu, went with my usual carne asada burrito. It was scrumptious. I wolfed that sucker down. My friend had the chile relleno/taco/enchilada combo plate. Said the relleno was second best she's had next to my mother's. That's saying something. Wish this place was in LA. I'd be a regular.

  • Mary Ann W.

Delicious! We stopped here on the way to Santa Fe and had the best blue corn enchiladas ever. On the way home, we made sure that we hit this place at meal time again and loved it. again. The chili relleno was perfect and the tacos tasty. I would drive to Winslow just to eat here. Not much atmosphere, but the food is worth a stop.

  • Pam B.

Off the beaten path, but we went here because of Yelp reviews. The food was average to our taste and there are such variations in Mexican food. Once again we had some very nice people wait on us. This is big in my book.

Just east of La Posada, where we were staying, we found a great Mexican restaurant, Casa Blanca. Their tomatillo salsa was tremendous. It was a cheap hole in the wall but was clean. We were there 5 years ago but it still stands out as a great meal.

  • Ian B.

Stopped in for lunch on the way to Santa Fe from Phoenix and was not disappointed. The service was very friendly, the food was delicious and the price was very reasonable for the quantity and quality of food served. The sopapillas were also excellent.

  • Arlene B.

I'm not a fan of Mexican food but my husband is. I LOVED the chicken tacos!!! This was the best mexican food I ever had. I wish we lived close to Winslow. My husband also enjoyed his combo meal. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff!

  • Marie B.

Thank you Yelp for having this service. Would have never found this restaurant. The food is good, chile is ok. I am from New Mexico where we have real hot chile, so that is why it is only 4 stars. Food portions are big. Salsa comes in plastic bottle. It is delicious. We have 2 servings and thought about a third, but did not do it. This salsa needs to be sold in stores. Unlike other posts I wish the red chile was hotter, but it I got my fix! Great restaurant.

  • Hamed A.

Great little diner for road trippers. It's a cozy place full of families driving across the desert. It's got that authentic Southwestern ambiance. As you'd imagine the Mexican food is good. My only knock is that the service was a little slow.

  • Dianne B.

A delightful surprise! I haven't enjoyed a meal like this for many years. Our party ordered the blue corn enchiladas, and the tamale plate. Wonderful service. Delicious food! We even met the owner. (She has owned it for 41 years). Truly a gem in Winslow. Highly recommend!

Driving through Winslow, we wanted to avoid chains and fast food. After finding nothing that looked good, we saw the Casa Blanca Cafe and decided to give it a try. We're very glad we did. The food is classic rural AzMex. You'll get a lot of food cooked with care, but the quality level was really outstanding. The entrees were milder that I usually like, but still very flavorful. The staff was great as was the local clientele. My picky kids were in heaven and the complimentary sopaipillas just sealed the deal. I'm not in this part of the state often, but I'll be sure to return to the Casa Blanca whenever I am.

Green chicken enchiladas really good, enjoyed the sopapillas, not sold on the tamales

First of all, if you're reading this you have my condolences as you're looking for somewhere to eat in Winslow, Az. The restaurant options are slim to none. We were lucky to find a local that appeared sober enough to recommend Casa Blanca. The family restaurant exceeded our expectations for Winslow. Btw, if you need somewhere to stay I recommend the Best Western.

Good food and service. Clean. Nice size portions. Enjoyed the green chile shredded beef enchiladas. Great stop on the highway to heaven!

We stop to eat here for dinner after reading the reviews. The food was SUPER greasy, and the chips were stale. The salsa was ok. I don't recommed it, go to Sonic down the street.

  • Michael E.

Excellent value! For just $6.95, I got a great shredded beef burrito with red chile sauce with beans and rice on the side. Everything tasted wonderful. I didn't have much expectations going into this small town stop in the middle of nowhere but it was really a terrific lunch and my friend enjoyed his Navajo taco as well. Also, as far as the chips and salsa that came with the meal, the salsa was definitely the best we've had in any of our Mexican restaurant stops in the Southwest so far.

    (4)
  • Tim E.

Excellent!!! Loved it. We both had tacos. Driving from Santa fe to Sedona. Just a normal little hole in the wall. Great flavors, big portions, fresh. What a treat

Great fresh Mexican food, welcoming decor and pleasant staff..a great oasis!

  • Chris B.

The best 'effing Chimichanga's I've ever had, ever! Holy crap!! This place is just down the street from the La Posada, and while the Turquoise Room is to be your fancy dining experience, come here for that nice (somewhat) divey Mexican fare. Totally old school, totally good stuff! A good sign for us when we came here was that the place was packed on a Friday night. And those Sopapilla's they give you after dinner, damn! I kid you not, this place rocked!

    (5)
  • Chris W.

YUM!! We seriously enjoyed our meals here, and looks like the locals sure do as well. The option for stacked enchilada's is a real plus, the red chile has deep flavor without being overly hot. Next time when we are done standing on the corner in Winslow, AZ it's back to Casa Blanca!!

  • John G.

On our way back from Flagstaff we wanted to get our son a Navajo Taco, we stopped in at the Flying J on the interstate and inquired. They sent us to Casa Blanca Cafe. I have passed through Winslow many times as I own some property to the south of there, and never stopperd here before . We were completely delighted the food was excellent, the service was very good and the atmosphere was nice. Casa Blanca is one of the oldest running Restaurants in Winslow to date family owned for 50 years. If your ever on route 66 and want some kicks or if your standing on a corner in Wislow AZ we highly recommend Casa Blanca Cafe!

This is a cute little place and it's been here since 1942. They have some really good Mexican food here. It is not a fancy place but the service was good. I had a burrito with red chile on the inside, green on the outside. The Casa Blanca version of 'Christmas style' if you're familar with New Mexican cooking. You won't be disappointed with the food and it's definitely one of the better choices in town. I recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

OK Mexican Food. Got the Huevos Rancheros, which were so-so. The sopapilla was really yummy.

so good! solid Mexican food, but really good frybread/soapapilla! they were also very accommodating in making some dishes vegetarian.

Winslow. It's a smaller town and not alot of options. Casa Blanca is probably in the top 3 of restaurants in Winslow and likely 4 or 5 stars for Winslow. If comparing to food offerings in other towns and cities, I may be a little generous of the 4th star. Although, if I am in Winslow - I will return to this establishment. Probably the biggest downside was the service. We were the only 2 diners in the restaurant and the server/service was slow and we seemed to have interupted her evening. She wasn't rude, just seemed to not want to be there and if we wanted something, we had to holler or wave. It was comical. We had to laugh and we took it in stride. It simply gave us more time to toss back a few extra beverages and relax. Small towns are difficult to find good employees. There was a party in the room next door, but it certainly appeared that was covered by other wait staff. I ordered the Blue Corn Green Chile Chicken Enchiladas. Formerly living in the southwest and now the midwest....it was a great change of pace to find the blue corn tortillas. Also the green chile was fantistic. If in Winslow, worth trying. Casa Blanca, keep looking for the right employees. Sometimes all the training in the world doesn't help if they simply just don't want to be there. We enjoyed the food.....and the prices were more than reasonable.

Friendly, good service, excellent food, reasonable price. Only drawback, no wine.

After a long day of hiking and driving, we rolled into Winslow for a two night stay. Loving Mexican, we looked at reviews to see what was a good option. Casa Blanca was the place to try. The hostess was cute (family member) and very helpful with our substitutions. The food is good, not great. The salsa, our benchmark, needed zing. I did like being self serve with the extra container given us. For Winslow, this is probably the best available for this type of food.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
