Came in for breakfast this morning, but they were out of eggs, so we were going to go elsewhere, but I was so hungry and uncaffeinated that I needed something and there were waits at everywhere else in the vicinity. So I ended up ordering a coffee and the sopapillas and my mom ordered their mexican shrimp cocktail. The coffee was surprisingly good and strong and the sopapillas were absolutely fantastic! The dough was perfect (crispy on the outside and soft and airy in the middle) with a generous amount of powdered sugar and honey! There were six to an order and I could only finish four (trust that the other two came home with me). They were literally "finger-licking good" and my mom scolded me for licking my fingers in public, but I told her to wipe my hands on the napkin would have been a waste of sopapilla! She was in love with her shrimp cocktail and said it was so filling and flavorful, so there you go and she is a woman who loves her shrimp cocktails! The staff is so sweet here and I liked the decor, especially the painted mural. I will definitley be back during my out of town visit to Tucson to sample their lunch fare as they seem like a truly authentic mexican restaurant!

The perfect place to really experience real Mexican food. A must go to if you want real Mexican food.

Love visiting this place when we're in Tucson. The food, drinks, and staff have all been great! I wish we could buy the sangria to take home.... but have to drink it there instead. Still great! Will return.

All around, just not that impressed. Food was average, and price was higher than it should have been for what we got.

Great salsa, very good enchiladas, clean, and very nice and attentive staff. We enjoyed our meals and the home style environment. Put this place on your must try list!!

We always go to Nana's for the true tastes of Mexico. We always start with their wonderful chips and salsa. make sure you get plenty of guacamole. There are so many choices on the menu but I always seem to end up with the flautas which are delicious. The cheese is very high quality. I like to end my work week with a nice stiff margarita, which is perfectly crafted by the bartender. This family knows Mexican food, and they know it well. We lived there for 10 years and we recently took a trip back home. Service is second to none.....

  • Bill A.

Not worth the trip. Service was not good at all and food was marginal at best. Very loud. Notwithstanding getting here an hour before closing, at 9 pm they started shutting off lights and handing out checks. No opportunity for desert. Seems this is a place for the owners to give the bar away to friends and family without much regard for actual customers. Highly don't recommend.

Friendly service, amazing food for a good price, and the coffee is good. I had the huevos con chorizo it was not greasy and was so good.

I'm sorry, I wanted to like this because the people were soooo nice.... But it just wasn't good. The guacamole tasted like it came from a can. Great service though.

Lots of hard surfaces and minimal decor...so go expecting a lot of noise. Table next to us was filled with family (the owner's family) and they were exceptionally loud and close to drunk. Food was decent -- not exceptional but decent. Beans and rice and salsa were all good, and that's one way to judge good Mexican food. Portions were large. Tea was old but once I mentioned it she took it away and said we wouldn't be charged. Not a very pleasant meal. Food was good but the noise level ruined everything. Service can only be described as fair.

The service was spot on and the food was pretty good too!! We will come back and try something else off of their menu. If your in the area, you should come check them out. ROCKON!! \m/

It's the only Mexican food spot in Marana worth trying! With Tucson around the corner, it's hard to find a reason to eat in Marana. I have to admit the food is pretty authentic. I loved the salsa!!! I got full off the chips alone. Portion sizes are decent and prices are good. I'm a picky Mexican food eater so 4 stars is a HUGE deal to me ;) I would advise u all to see for yourself. Happy salsing!

Awesome. Great breakfast and friendly service. Delicious salsa. Homemade tortillas. We will likely be back for lunch...today. For this area of town it's simply the best restaurant around for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It will be part of our regular routine every Sunday before church now. Perfect.

Absolutely wonderful food and service! We have been looking for a restaurant that has all of our favorites and are more than enjoyable on the pallet. This place has tasty salsa and chips, homemade tortillas, fresh guacamole, Spanish rice and refried beans! Sorry to all those others that we settled for in the past as this is now our place and will become their newest regular!!

Large plate of #2...Huevos Rancheros ( Eggs Ranch Style) 2 fried corn tortillas topped with 2 eggs any style crowned with our special homemade sauce, served with home potatoes and beans.

We visited for lunch. Food was ok, not great, but the service was very poor. No follow up after the food was delivered, then a good 15 minute wait for the check, only because we went to the counter to request it. Finally, they would not process a credit card with a chip, blaming their processor.

We visited Nana's mid-November. The portions were enormous, and options plentiful. This family owned business is a diamond in the rough. Do not expect ambiance, as this is more like being home 'in the kitchen'. We met Nana and one of her sons. Great people, I felt like I was with family.

  • Aven F.

I love this place! The owners and staff and always very welcoming and treat me like family! The food is to die for, I've ordered several things off the menu and have never been disappointed. Order the fried ice cream for desert!

We drive all the way from the southeast to eat here. Food is beyond wonderful, service is always great. If anyone likes Tortilla soup, it's better than homemade. Took off one star because the ace could use some Devore updates but the food, all of it is outstanding.

I ate there once. I had a ground beef burrito that came with rice and beans, my son (6yr) had ground beef tacos which also had rice and beans. Nothing was delicious, from the salsa to the beans everything was so salty, the drinks were odd tasting and the rice was not cooked all the way. I usually order ice tea with my meal, I'm very familiar with the flavor, there was something wrong with their ice tea. I have never been back.

  • Sara S.

Not a lot of options that aren't fast food around those parts. Staff was friendly and prompt. Place is clean and the family has clearly put a lot of effort and love into it. Just wish the food matched their enthusiasm. Lots of options...maybe the seafood would have been better than the tacos. Even still...salsa was average as were the beans and rice. Not terrible but not great.

This has become one of my favorite breakfast places. The chorizo is homemade and delicious! The staff is helpful and efficient! The sangria margarita is a favorite in the evening. Sangria is also homemade.

Delicious! Had late lunch on a Monday and the place was pretty much empty. Seated and attended to quickly by Nana herself! I ordered the Carna Asada taquitos and devoured them. Really liked the dollop of guac under the carne Asada--added nice flavor and held everything together so didn't fall apart. Beans and rice were good too. Big portions! My daughter loved it because she could get pancakes which were light and fluffy. Very good. Next time I am in Tucson I will stop by again! Thank you!

  • Nikki B.

The best part about this place is the staff. They are so friendly and attentive! The food is good too. Overall the price is about average, so you won't break the bank when you visit. Definitely a good place for a small group of friends to gather and talk.

Disgusting food! Even the ice tea tasted off. I ordered the shrimp tacos... nearly barfed it into a napkin and was told I had to pay for half of the plate. I only had a bite! Ate some of the rice... which was not impressive.. Thought I was gonna get food poising. And the guacamole.... is NOT guacamole! They charged me $2 for a little metal thing of "Guac" It looked like grass that was put into a blender.... and there was oil in it?? Ew! 0 stars. I asked my co-workers about this place when I came back. Those that have went only went once.... there's a reason! My friend's family own's Club 21 (the oldest Mexican restaurant in Tucson)... now that's Mexican food! This place is a poor mans version of Mexican food. And the server forgot to bring the salsa.... which tasted like marinara sauce.

The food was wonderful, the service was fast and the prices were reasonable! A great place to eat if you like authentic Mexican food!!

HORRIBLE.......rude staff. Walked in and they pointed to a table to sit . Waited for 15 mins while the girl helped other people after us and cleaned tables around us. When I approached her she said she will tell the other lady. What set us off she was she did not stop cleaning when I talked to her and look annoyed that I said anything. Most of all did not seem to care that we were upset. I am all about supporting local businesses but not places that don't care about their customers.

I stopped here for breakfast after visiting Saguaro National Park and had the Huevos con Chorizo. The good was delicious but the staff was even better! I read about the good service shortly before coming and was not disappointed. She took such good care of me, I felt like I was at home. If I ever pass through Tuscon again I will definitely return!

Family run, friendly staff, authentic food. They always make a custom chimichanga with calabacitas for my husband who is vegetarian and it is very tasty. I recommend the carne deshebrada. The meat is juicy and tender. Chimichangas are perfectly cooked.

Did a Yelp while near Marana and up came Nana's. Nice and tidy restaurant with a very friendly and attentive server. Chips and salsa were very fine. My cheese enchildadas with mole sauce were divine. I really enjoyed them. We got the lunch plates which means a better price but servings that were a little smaller than the norm. I see that as a win-win, saving money for all and cutting down on food having to be tossed. Our server told us he hoped we would come back. How often do you hear that? A nice dining experience with good Mexican food.

  • Sylvia C.

The iced tea was light brown water- we asked the waitress to take it away & just bring us water. That should have been our first warning. Salsa & chips were nit very good at all. I ordered the flat enchiladas which in my experience in both making & having then at other places they are made from masa, these were corn tortillas I did eat them since our waitress disappeared but was very disappointed. My husband ordered the tacos again not great! Our waitress never returned apparently she left after serving our food & told the lady that I ended asking our bill for to watch out table. Well so much for that! The food & service are horrible!!!!! Stay away!!!

    (1)
  • Sarah D.

Service was friendly and quite timely. The salsa was very tasty and kind of addictive but as for the rest of my food it was pretty bland and I mean bland! Probably won't be going back.

Whenever we travel we try to eat at family-owned local restaurants, generally relying on Yelp reviews to aid in our search. Once again Yelp helped us out! The young man at our hotel (La Quinta across the way) said it was delicious home made Mexican food and family owned. We checked the reviews on Yelp and off we went! My chicken tostada was fresh and delicious! My husband had a carne asada burrito that was superb, the tortilla was light and tasty. The owner took our order and made sure that everything was just the way we liked it! He was very friendly and clearly well liked by the "regulars" in the restaurant.

  • Michael H.

Worst Mexican food I have ever had! I ordered the carne asada burrito (my favorite burrito ). The burrito comes with rice and beans. The only decent part of the meal were the beans. The carne asada was beyond well done - bordering on burnt. The tortilla was so tough I could not cut it with the knife. The rice was beyond bland. I didn't even eat half of my meal - $10 wasted there. The service was poor - would have gone to the bar to get a water refill but there was no one there either! Next time I want Mexican food in this area I will go to Nico's Taco Shop! This restaurant is also NOT baby friendly. No changing area - they told my wife she could move all of the decorations on the shelving unit and change her diaper there. I will NOT be back!!

Had dinner here last night and wished we would've went elsewhere. But we were hungry and wanted mexican food. I think $9.99 for a bean burrito was way overpriced. It was one of the "cheapest" items on the menu. My red chile chimi had a sweet taste to it so I didn't care for it but after pouring some of their hot salsa on it, it was edible. Chips were cold and very salty. There was only one other group in there eating but we could not get our waitress back over to get us a refill on our cokes. Mom had the $9.99 three cheese enchaladas and it would've tasted better for $5.99. My daughter had the chicken strips and they were over fried and too crunchy. Just way too expensive for the taste and portion sizes. We left most of the food on the plate because it didn't taste too good. We won't be back. Disappointing too because we live close. If you want to spend that kind of money, go somewhere else. It just wasn't worth the prices on the menu.

  • Thomas G.

Service was ok but what killed them was the food. Salsa tasted like sweet marinara sauce and the flautas I ordered were not made with flour tortillas, that makes them taquitos. The red sauce was very sweet and the beans seemed like if they were out of a can. My sisters steak had a charred propane flavor so she decided to send it back. The server did take it off the bill so we were appreciative. This style of food is more tex mex then "true" Mexican food.......maybe that's the problem we had. In any event.......I have to rate this dinner adventure 2 stars.

" The service was friendly, although the staff seemed to be sitting in the restaurant having lunch themselves. " ~Buck B. 10/11/2009 ^^^2 years later and the same thing is going on? ?In my case, one of the sons was my server and he was eating behind the bar squeezing lime into his Menudo , then using his hands to fill up his tortilla and bringing it straight into his mouth and then, proceeds to come over and ask me if I want a refill on my drink.Um-NO! Time to call the Health Department ?!? Definitely losing a star for that. This made me weary of the food a bit. I had the Cheese Enchilada plate, taste was good. However , portions and price sucked.too expensive for what you get. (sigh)

We went to Nana's Kitchen for lunch today. I had the chicken flautas and my husband had the chile colorado burrito. We are from El Paso and Santa Fe, respectively, so we have very high expectations for Mexican food. The chicken flautas were exceptional. Very light and crispy. Beans and rice are okay. My husband's chile colorado burrito was good, just a little different than what we are used to. It had a sweet flavor, instead of the spiciness that you generally get with chile colorado. Again, not bad, just different. The server was very friendly and helpful. The overall ambience was nice. We'll definitely go again!

I lived in Tucson in the 70's and always loved El Torero, subsequent visits to play golf and see old friends I've added Mi Nidito to my list of places that I absolutely HAVE to hit. Well move over old standbys, my old buddy Jimmy took me to Nana's and if I've ever had better mole I can't recall when or where. WOWOWOWOW!!!!!! Next time I land at Tucson International it will be directly to Nana's Kitchen!! Mole Enchiladas???? OH YEAH!!!!

I've been to this restaurant twice and have had an amazing experience each time!! The service is great, all of the customers and staff are friendly and the food is TO DIE FOR!!! I literally crave their food after I stuff my face and go home even after I can't breathe!! Nana makes home cooked food like my own Nana & the atmosphere is very much at ease & makes you feel like you're at home. I highly recommend it, you won't be let down!!! Give them a shot!!!!! Tell em Sabrina sent you!!!!

I'm going to Tucson next week and to reminisce on my days of living in Tucson, I'm going to review some of my favorite and not-so-favorite restaurants. Nana's happens to be one of my favorites. Too bad they opened right before I was planning to move back, otherwise, I could have experienced more of their menu. First off, service is top notch. This is a family owned place. The servers are very friendly, even introduce themselves by name and remember you when you come back for your next visit. Marco, Javier, Javier, Jr., among others. This is like home style cooked food - not over the top gourmet, but like home cooked Mexican, with an extensive menu with a lot of variety. Food comes out quick and hot. I like the steak - they have many varieties, and it's always trimmed and flavorful. There's one combo that comes with a steak and cheese enchilada - good stuff. They also have plenty of combos, tacos, chimichangas, etc. I like the no frills atmosphere. In fact, the employees (family) are so cool, you can literally sit there and shoot the shit for a while and sip cocktails with them. I'd way rather patronize business like this (mom and pop with friendly service), than boring chains. There is a bogus place next door - 'The Native New Yorker,' that sucks. Did I mention drinks are good and cheap here - full bar, plenty of beers, etc. This place is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Tucson/Marana. I leave for my trip to Tucson in two days and I'm taking my old neighbors out wherever they want, so hopefully they choose Nana's Kitchen. Come on Tucsonans - support your local family owned places and quit eating at chain garbgage like Texas Roadhouse and Chilis. Alright - I'm done.

I been to Nana's a few times. The food is good, but things are different from when they first opened-quality of ingredients maybe or a new cook? The last few visits the food didn't appear to be the quality Nana herself expects. How do I know? Because I've eaten in her kitchen at home. I thought it was maybe an off day and went back and had the same experience with the same dish. The services was excellent, as always, but the food was not worth the fourth star. I plan to go back again and try a new dish and the same one ( a girl's got to eat) and see if anything has changed. The desserts however are delicious my favorite is the tres leches cake. It is awesome!

Our last night in Tucson we had to try my mom's favorite Mexican place; she assured me it would be the best carne asada I'd ever had and she was not far off. #1 will always be my neighbor's version from many years ago, no restaurant could ever top it, but this was a close second! They are definitely not skimpy with portions and I had plenty to take home for leftovers. The best part of the evening, though, was definitely the most indulgent - sangria margaritas and dulce de leche cake, home-made by Nana herself and beyond delicious. The $7 price point for the slice of cake might throw you off at first, but remember the $5 milkshake in Pulp Fiction? Yep, like that...it absolutely blew me away. Totally worth it!

What the hell? Six of us went, I had a Restaurant.com coupon. Before being seated, to be sure, I asked 'Do you honor this coupon?' and was told 'Yes'. We had a so-so meal, and when I got the bill I gave the server the coupon. She came back and said the won't honor it. I asked to speak to the manager. He refused to speak to me! Are you kidding me?

First I must say that I have eaten some very outstanding Mexican food in my life. Unfortunately, it wasn't at Nana's Kitchen. The prices are way out of line for what you get. Typical, below average Mexican fare. The food is mediocre at best with small portions. Cold hard chips and watery salsa that taste like it came from a can. It seems as if every family member hangs out in the restaurant, mostly sitting around chatting and eating and not working. Perhaps everyone is on the payroll and that is the reason for the higher prices. I actually dined there twice because of the reviews and I wanted to give it a second chance. Big mistake. The family is very friendly and will make you feel welcome and request that you return. That is a plus. Well, sorry Nana, you can't cook Mexican food worth a squat. I'm not even Mexican, but I can out cook everything on Nana's menu by leaps and bounds. Nana's is OK if you are not a Mexican food junkie like me and have lots of money to flush down the toilet. The second star is only because everyone was friendly. I couldn't bear to telling them that I liked the food when I didn't to save hurt feelings. I'll never understand why most Mexican restaurants are so skimpy with two of the cheapest foods on earth (rice and beans). I left Nana's twice, still hungry (I am not overweight).

Know what to order and this place is an epic win - great people, good food, nice relaxed environment. Might I suggest nanas tacos (try em on soft flour tortillas) -you WILL NOT be disappointed. PS - Boo @ "Buck B" for being so damn picky. Cmon dude, get real.

We hit this place about every two weeks and love it. The chipotle chicken enchiladas are fantastic. Just like most of Tucson, the chimis are really good as well. Watch out for the top shelf margaritas because you should not be driving home after two of them. :-) We love the family that runs the place too.

I've read the reviews and heard all the chatter about Nana's but our family's experience was shock and dismay. Horrible food, and I don't say that lightly. My family all agreed even after all the rave reviews from friends and neighbors. That's why we went. (The oldest, Daniel, said "can we give a zero rating?" ) Especially the burger and fries, which I tasted and our children then our dogs refused to eat. The burger was touted as a specialty so the boys ordered it. My Mexican food was disappointing and probably the worst food I've ever had. The tough part was how nice and friendly the staff and family were at restaurant. We had a tough time telling them that we liked the food when we really hated it. We would have said nothing but we were asked with such glee, and, as I said, they were all so nice. This is one of the two worst food experiences of my entire life and I've eaten overseas, had food poisoning and eaten in a third world country.

If you enjoy poor service, over priced & disapointing mexican food this is the place to go. I've never had flat enchiladas with the corn tortilla so thick & chewey. I guess it was to make up for the lack of chicken that was supposed to accompany it. Plenty of rice & beans! Nana definately needs to keep this recipe a secret. Don't bother using the restroom either as the cleanliness & the toilet with the broken lid were an obvious expectation.

  • Tom D.

Everything you hear in the other reviews regarding the family service is true. These owners simply love people. Nana is the grandmother in the family who I met once. The Father is extremely gregarious and eager to please. The rest of the staff is friendly as well. This is truly a family business. The salsa(mild, hot) and chips are great. Warning: The 'Hot' stuff varies from visit to visit, but has an upper heat index that can melt your tonsils. I like getting both and mixing a little lava with the 'mild' which by most standards is actually 'spicy.' My Five star rating is primarily a function of the VALUE. The food gets 3.5 stars, but Nana's gives you huge portions for an extremely low price. Far more economical than El Charro and other more commercial places. Because of the great value, the place is usually PACKED for dinner's on Fri & weekends. Sometimes they overstretch themselves and cannot service all parties in a timely manner. So think about checking them out for a lunch or weekday dinner.

  • Taralyn R.

I still love this place. Ever since my first visit, I have never been disappointed. I come here quite frequently for breakfast/brunch to have the Omelette a la Mexicana or Huevos a la Mexicana, both of which come with potatoes, beans and tortillas. The price point here is perfect and I always leave full or with leftovers for lunch. The bloody Mary's are delicious and my friends who have grown up on authentic Mexican food love the Menudo.

We walked in and the place looked simple yet pleasing. We were greeted right away. Chips and salsa came out right as we were sitting down. Which was actually pretty dang good. Our server was amazing. She was super friendly and attentive even though she had many other tables. I gulped my first water down in less than 3 minutes. (No joke) she quickly came with another without hesitation. This happened 4 more times. I drink a lot of water. Our food was good but nothing phenominal. I had chicken mole which was super tasty. My wife ordered fajitas, which she was raving about. During our dinner, we saw patrons come in and were greeted by everyone working. Many were greeted by name and even given hugs. It was really cool. Service is like nowhere else I have been, their food is definitely worth trying.

Poor customer service..waited about 15 min before anybody even brought us menus, i got the enchiladas banderas and it was extremely gross! The green sauce was so sour and by far the worse of the three. The cheese wasn't even fully melted, felt like thick clumps not gooey like cheese enchiladas should be. Rice and beans were bland. Super overpriced and most definitely will not be returning ever again!

Food was great. Had the deluxe breakfast burrito and the chorizo is phenomenal. Service for the table as a whole was less than optimum. We did have people come in a different times so one late comer wasn't offered drinks and we had to ask for his breakfast because everyone else was served and they acted like we were done. Also missed some of our drink orders. Seemed like you had to ask for things more than once far too often

We stopped by before a movie based on the reviews here. Either other folks have much lower standards or something has changed tremendously at this restaurant. We had a lunch special of chicken tacos along with chips and salsa and a side order of fries. The service was friendly, although the staff seemed to be sitting in the restaurant having lunch themselves. Let's start with the fries. I know you shouldn't expect much in a Mexican restaurant, but they were almost without any taste at all. They were a bit underdone although very hot. Moving onto the chicken tacos. The shredded chicken was excellent as were the taco shells. However, the rice and beans lacked any real flavor and tasted like they'd come out of a can and been quickly reheated. The portions were also somewhat small. The chips and salsa were equally unimpressive. The chips were served cold and the salsa tasted like someone had dumped the salt shaker in it. This was a shame as the underlying flavor notes were quite interesting and had it been prepared with care could have been very good. We decided to forgo a dessert after the lackluster main courses. In short, this was some of the worst Mexican food overall we've had in Tucson. Perhaps there has been a change in the restaurant since the other reviews, but our experience will not make us a repeat customer.

Quality Family Run Mexican Kitchen ! Nana has opened up shop across from Arizona Pavilions behind the car wash and next to the Native New Yorker in a high ceilinged strip mall, and ladies and gentlemen .. NANA CAN COOK! All of Nana's family has personality, and are quick to provide exemplary service, or assistance with the menu. Nana always has a special, especially at Lunch. Nana's chips and salsa (Mild or Hot your choice) are good Nana's margarita's are well prepared. and best of all Nana's dessert is homemade ! If you are in the NW near Arizona Pavilions, Continental Ranch, or Continental Reserve you need to give Nana's kitchen a try.

Our first trip was not the best so we'd tried one more time. We bought a coupon since we go to a movie theater near the restaurant. The service was awful the last time. This time it was excellent. A complete 180. The food remains OK. The cheese crisp was a 3 out of five. Burned in places on the bottom, but just in places. The shredded beef tacos were a 4 on taste a 3 overall since they were mini me shells. $10 for three tacos, you'd expect a bigger shell. So they redeemed themselves with the great service, but Nana's remains a groupon stop only for us.

Overpriced, loud, and not especially good. Chips were slightly stale, salsa was decent, waiter was inattentive. Sat down for dinner at 7PM, and was told food had been prepared "this morning." Tucson (and Marana) has many other offerings that provide a better value and experience.

I love this restaurant. We needed something good like this in the NW area. Normally we eat at La Parrilla Suiza, but my Nana's is much better. The food is fresh, it has loads of flavor, and the salsa is really good. You can have salsa really hot there....they will add chiltepin....as much as you want. In addition, they have a great kids' menu complete with burgers, chicken tenders, and fries in case your child doesn't care for Mexican food. I also love the service. Very friendly and family operated. We always have a lot of fun there, too, I think due to the fact that the staff is so friendly. I hope they stay around for a long time. It'll break my heart if they ever fail. We have brought friends and family there, and they all loved it, too. They have kept going back. I applaud this family for creating such a wonderful place!

This restaurant had been recommended to us plus we read it got good reviews. We had recently purchased a Groupon Coupon and felt it was the time to try it out. What a huge disappointment!!! While the margaritas were very good that's where the "stars" ended. Our waitress was cordial but blatantly told us in no uncertain terms that drinks and tips were not included with the coupon. We weren't born yesterday and knew this. I find it extremely rude of wait staff to point out that their tip should be based on the total cost of the bill sans coupon. We asked for water in addition to our margaritas. The chips were not fresh nor hot. Tasted like they had been sitting around all day. Granted we came early, at about 4:30 for dinner, but they could have served them warm. I ordered the deluxe cheese crisp but without tomatoes. My husband ordered the combo fajitas. My cheese crisp arrived with tomatoes and cold. We never got the water-had to ask twice. His fajitas were so salty they were barely edible. They reheated the cheese crisp but it was still tepid at best. While only 2 other tables were occupied we had to repeatedly ask for more salsa and the water-not very attentive service especially after being reminded that we needed to include the tip!! We looked at each other and said NEVER again. Maybe we hit an off night but if the food and service was so poor on an early evening mid-week-what do they do on a busy night? Think twice before going here!!!

We like to patronize local places, not chains. They don't have a lunch menu so the prices are dinner prices (if your going out for lunch) pretty pricey. Had tacos beans and rice, $20.00 a little to pricey for these parts. Beans and rice seemed like they were heated in the microwave, everything was very salty. Tacos were shredded beef and very soggy-salty too, I was hoping it would be better. Chips seemed store bought. Nice staff but would not return.

Watch out for the owner who took away the lunch menu and referred to it as the children's menu. It was about 12:30 and lunch is until 2:00. He obviously didn't want to sell lunches for $6.50 when he could pretend the lunch menu didn't exist and sell entrees at twice the cost. Fortunately my parents had been there many times and ordered off the lunch menu in the past, plus it was is my mom's hand when he took it sober all had seen it. Weird that only her menu contained a lunch menu and he took it away. I won't be back when in that area. The enchiladas I had were good and had a sweet sauce, almost like a mole, but owner said it wasn't. Service was good and food was good, but the lunch menu incident was just too much and seemed blatantly deceptive.

Love visiting this place when we're in Tucson. The food, drinks, and staff have all been great! I wish we could buy the sangria to take home.... but have to drink it there instead. Still great! Will return.

Thank you!

(sigh)

OH YEAH!!!!

We hit this place about every two weeks and love it. The chipotle chicken enchiladas are fantastic. Just like most of Tucson, the chimis are really good as well. Watch out for the top shelf margaritas because you should not be driving home after two of them. :-) We love the family that runs the place too.

Thank you!

(sigh)

Service was friendly and quite timely. The salsa was very tasty and kind of addictive but as for the rest of my food it was pretty bland and I mean bland! Probably won't be going back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
