Wow! Food was delicious and service was above par. Lourdes our server was really great. Definitely try the margaritas some of the best I have had!

I was so hoping for a good Mex place to eat in Tubac. Well it is very expensive - $ 4.50 for one Mex beer. $7.50 for a Margarita - eekk. Chips and salsa - chips were good, salsa was a hair better than Green Valley - it had some flavor more than a mere red sauce. Good Service. Meal - mediocre and expensive. The beef taco was okay. The cheese enchiladas were micro tiny - like half a tortilla with cheddar cheese ....... really? It is a huge place tucked in the middle of Tubac. Not good. I will not go back or recommend it. bummer

Nice atmosphere. Mariachis too loud and obtrusive. Food mediocre. Was hoping for something more as the latest version of Mexican food in Tubac. Margaritas mediocre. Overall the dining experience was just ok. This review fits the restaurant. Just average.

One thousand stars. First of all, I wish I could review other reviewers because SOME folks are clearly joyless sacks of cheapwad. The problem with yelp is stupid opinions are given equal say. Here's why this place (margarita on the) rocks: They let us order off the regular menu when it was a special evening menu. Wendy was simply delightful. Fantastic Mariachi band got the entire room rocking with Malagueña Salerosa followed by CCR. Hubs ordered the carne con chile 100 year old recipe, my chix enchiladas were fluffy white meat delights. Margarita on rocks was tasty and reasonably priced at seven bucks. Owner came to greet us. Warm smiles, good food, authentic decor, music and ambiance will bring us back hopefully many years to come. Vamanos!

This place is wonderful! Had an absolute blast. Went on a Friday night and enjoyed the Mariachi. These guys were absolutely fantastic. The place is lively, but not overly loud or crowded. When we went, they were having a special event/limited menu night, but Wendy, our wonderful server brought us out the full menus. I ordered the house specialty, a 100-year-old receipe for Carne con Chile. I think that I practically inhaled it. House Margs are great and a deal at only $7. Service is A+ Food is A+ Atmosphere A+ Be prepared to have a great time here, whether coming for lunch, dinner, or just grabbing a drink after a long day of shopping in Tubac. It's so great to have a fun, friendly, and delicious Mexican restaurant back in Tubac. Will be coming back here for a long time.

Should be less than one star. The Mexican government should force them to remove Mexican from their title as the food is an insult to a noble cuisine. My lunch was amazing in that the barely warm dish of rice, beans and chiliqueles managed to so bland over these staples that they all tasted the same. The normal red chili sauce used for chiliqueles was replaced by a nacho cheese ooze that would have embarrassed a 7-11 gas station food stop. The sad accompanying tortillas were cold and had the taste of cardboard. One hopes that this place folds fast and is replaced by a real restaurant

Nice place to grab a bite while in Tubac. The food is certainly above average - and the restaurant has a large comfortable patio. Service was very good and the prices are reasonable. A very good choice for a casual lunch while shopping in Tubac.

Service was great. We had a group of 7, with separate checks, which is a challenge for some restaurants. I would have tipped more than the mandatory percentage the restaurant added do a party of 6 or more but the difference was small. My fellow volunteers were enjoying their meals immensely but I had ordered the beef fajitas and they were tuff, not tender. I note the original restaurant, outside of Nogales AZ burned down after a kitchen fire. The facility is the new outpost. Hopefully the owners will pay attention to things such as the noisy exhaust fan in the men's room which draws attention to the grime encoated exhaust fan in an otherwise newly redone restroom.

Notice in the reviews that the people who think it's fabulous are all from the midwest, and the locals think it's crap. 'Nuff said.

Very authentic and homemade Mexican cuisine. Service can be slow, but the food is worth it.

Great Mexican Food my favorite is the chicken chimichanga enchilada style. Go on Fridays they have Mariachi and a great bar with delicious margaritas of tamarindo, mango, and chamoy. We had a great time and a good tasting dinner.

Bland, lukewarm food, mistakes on bill, extremely small bowl of chips served with salsa....we will not return.

I SO want to say that I love this place because I surely loved Soto's in Nogales! But I'm gonna have to give the Tubac version another try because my first experience was not the awesome one that I expected and hoped for. Portion was small, salsa as if from a jar, very few chips provided at a time, enchilada was so small that I wasn't even sure there was one on my plate! Not a satisfying meal! As for the service: adequate at best, tips are based on service, not just the amount of the check.... keep my glass full, my chips plentiful and that's all that is necessary for a above average tip.... if I have to constantly ask for these simplistic services, someone isn't doing what is necessary to make the cha'ching that they could (tips). I could understand if the restaurant would have been full, however there were only a few tables occupied - why then do I have to ask for more water? More tequila? More chips? I hope to update this review with a more favorable one so, with that being said, again, based on reputation alone - I will be back.

The food was similar to Taco Bell. You get charged for everything including extra chips and salsa. The service was mediocre at best.

Pretty disappointing food. Mariachis were great and nice to eat outside in the patio.

We were here in October of 2010, from Nebraska and Minnesota. We were in Tucson for 10 days and heard raves about Tubac! We enjoyed the the little city immensely, the shops were great, decided to get a meal and drinks, couldn't have chosen a better spot. Margaritas to die for then and food was really great, chips and salsa top notch. Today we went back, April 6th 2015, we moved to Tucson and family came from Minnesota, enjoyed the shops and found what we were looking for at La Paloma. Time for lunch, found this place again, great ambiance for early afternoon. Salsa was good, chips didn't appear to be homemade like before, (salty), usually homemade chips are not salted. Food was extremely hot! Enjoyed the #9,3,5 and Chimichanga. Guacamole was really good. Margaritas were different tasting. Water smelled really bad. Can see why it's not readily offered. Should have had the bottled, bad aftertaste. Will we go back, sure thing if we are in Tubac again. Service was exceptional! Very sweet and caring waitress.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
