We had four different meals during our visit. The pork chimi was very well liked as was the bean burrito. I very much enjoyed the cheese enchiladas with black beans and roasted corn. The red enchilada sauce was flavorful without being spicy. My husband enjoyed the Caramelo. It happened to be his birthday and our server Elsa (who was amazingly friendly and a great server) sang him happy birthday and brought him an order of flan. She also overheard us discussing a horchata for him and she brought that as well. I would definitely recommend this place for couples, small groups, and families. They have live music on Fridays and Saturdays. We enjoyed lovely weather on the patio. Keep in mind that they close at 8 so plan accordingly.

Service for us on a Friday night was really good; very nice, helpful, pleasant waitstaff! Also on the plus side are their side dishes: corn and the rice. Chips and salsa were also good, as were their margaritas. On a bad note - these were some of the worst chile rellenos I have ever had! The batter belonged on fish (as in fish n chips) and was not authentic at all...and a little TOO crispy for my taste. UGH. I will go again and definitely try some other things- the Sonoran hotdog sounds good as does their taco plate.

Excellent Mexican food and great margaritas!!! I would here again in a heart beat. The out door seating area is beautiful!

Had the best service ever and the food was absolutely amazing. I would have left happy even if it was bad food that is how good our server was. Elsa is amazing! Really good margaritas to boot!

Awkward entrance... You pretty much walk into the center of the restaurant and are greeted by people starting at you. Waitress was nice. Margaritas were good. Cool guy was playing the guitar... Got slightly annoying towards the end. Ordered the " Queso Fondito" which was pretty much cheez whiz... Smelt terrible and tasted like death.( If it were a taste....) told the waitress and she gladly took it back and off of my ticket. I don't even want to try anything thing else... Mexican Italian?! Gross.

This restaurant is located in a historic building in central Tombstone. Interior is well decorated and there is also a nice outdoor seating area. Unfortunately the food was mostly mediocre on the day we visited. Being in the Southwest, we figured the Mexican dishes would be a sure bet, but the enchiladas - served in a mini skillet! - were bland and flavorless. I tried a dish called the caramelo, which was supposed to be carne asada, cheese and beans grilled between two tortillas. It was also pretty timid in terms of flavor, although at least the portion was generous. In a town like Tombstone, I guess it is to be expected that bold flavors would need to be reined in to appeal to the tourists. At least the service was friendly.

This quaint restaurant located just off Main street in Tombstone is really a gem. We were greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere and invited to sit anywhere we liked. There seems to be only 1 or 2 ladies waiting tables, bit on a lazy Sunday, they are doing a more than sufficient job. We started with a prickly pear Margarita which was accompanied with a home made piece of prickly pear jelly. The candy and Margarita were delicious!! The wait staff was more than attentive. My mother Is allergic to corn, and they were very kind and fried her some fresh flour tortillas for her to use as chips with their delicious salsa as well as even giving her her own bowl that hadn't had Coen chips dipped in it. It is this kind of attentiveness that will bring me back. The chicken chimi Verde was excellent, as was the chili relleno burrito. Be sure to put this very reasonably priced restaurant on your list of places to try. Food, service, price, outstanding and definitely worth it!!

I expected better, being this close to the Mexican border... Margaritas and dishes were all passable, and certainly a good value, but perhaps I was expecting better. Atmosphere is very unique, very cool

on our way back from bisbee the husband and i decided to stop and walk around in tombstone. i was also hungry and didn't want to wait to get back to tucson to eat so after walking around we saw this place. it was really windy and cold outside and when we stepped in, they had the fireplace going. the nice lady let us sit at a table for 6 (even though we were only two) to warm up. she joked that she would have had a problem with that if it were a busy day. har-har! the husband got the chile relleno burrito and i got a chicken chimichanga. according to the husband, his chile relleno was great. my chimichanga, on the other hand was just so-so. it did fill my tummy, though, so i can't complain too much. our waitress came around and offered us dessert. the husband lovesssssss flan and couldn't resist. he said it was great. i'm not a fan, so i passed. if i were to be back in tombstone, i might try items off their italian side of the menu.

I had low expectations for dining in this tourist town, but I really enjoyed this place. Service was friendly and margaritas were very tasty. I had the tamale plate, and they we a little dry but good. Corn side was great! Reasonable prices. Queso and salsa were fresh and good.

Friendly servers, scratch made food. Tamales Verde were delicious. Real deal made with traditional methods and lard.

Food is great! Had the fish taco's, they were good but not prepared the way I am use to. They used lettuce instead of cabbage for example but they were good none the less.. You must get the corn for a side, it is amazing. Jan had the chicken enchiladas, she said they were awesome. The service was excellent. Very friendly, great atmosphere. We will be returning!

The Mexican food here is pretty good, but not the Italian. It's not really an Italian place, there are maybe three Italian items on the menu ! Pretty decent place otherwise.

I love this place. It's new and nobody knows how good the food is, YET. The food is great, fresh ingredents, whole made salsa, great food. The portions are big, very filling. Try the black beans, awesome.Chimichangas are great, chicken, beef, carne Elsa, our server was perfect. She is an experienced server and will provide professional table help and add value. She may even interest you in some history and stories about Tombstone. Great service, great food, great place.

If your in Tombstone and enjoy Mexican food get over to this place the food is excellent. Went on the recommendation of the first review and was not disappointed. The portion was so big i could not finish my plate and I'm a big eater. The salsa was also very fresh and delicious. It was getting close to their closing and not very busy so our waitress Elsa told us some of her ghost stories. I did not agree with the first review of it being chilly in the dining area, although it was a warm day.The next time were out hiking in this area I will definitely be back to Cafe Margarita

I'm bumping CAFE MARGARITA up to 4 stars. We had dinner there again for the second time and this is what I recommend... The BEEF CHIMICHANGAS were outstanding. You could almost split it with your partner. They are big, filling and all beef (very tender) with cheese. Order the BLACK BEANS, not refried beans. The black beans are very tasty and the refried tend be thick and bland. SERVICE is over the top here. The wait staff will make you feel very welcome and they are very doting and friendly without smothering you during your meal. My only reason for not giving them 5 stars is the the main dining room can get a bit chilly as the entrance door opens and closes with guests coming and going and the lighting is very bright. I would subdue the lighting a bit to make this restaurant more intimate. Also maybe add a heat lamp by the front entrance to keep guests toasty as they eat. No matter where you sit in the main dining room, you'll feel the draft. Highly recommend this restaurant, newly remodeled in the heart of Tombstone, Arizona and very reasonable prices!

The food is amazing! Especially the enchiladas .. The servers are friendly. The waitress Naomi is awesome and very sweet :-)

  • Sandi S.

The food was simply terrible. Greasy and flavorless with steak in the fajitas that was so tough I couldn't chew it. The bruschetta appetizer came on thick garlic bread and we just scraped the tomatoes off and ate them off the bread. The others in our party got bean and cheese burritos which were ok but the black beans on the side tasted old and kind of moldy. The corn side dish was soggy! The prickly pear margaritas were the highlight but they are sweet so squeeze a LOT of lime in and you have a nice drink. Service was decent and the place is pretty and in an historic building but perhaps they should focus on Mexican food and get that right instead of being Mex and Italian. I also had a terrible stomach ache the whole next day which may or may not have been there food but just beware.

Nellie Cashman's was Tombstones oldest restaurant for years. Nellie Cashman was a kind woman and part of Tombstone's rich history and was known as "The Angel Of The Camp" because of all her good deeds. Among her many business holdings, she owned and ran her restaurant at this same address. The original adobe building from the 1880's in old Tombstone is still here. The Good News is that while the building is still there... Bad News is, UNFORTUNATELY - it's NOT called Nellie Cashman's anymore...BUT it's been sold several times over and is now called "Cafe Margarita". Don't Waste Your Time. It's an big insult to Nellie Cashman's story. Instead for making a Nellie Cashman / Tombstone kind of theme to the place, it's just another - not very good - restaurant. Cafe Margarita has the balls to NOT mention on the outside in front of the restaurant, nor inside the place, nor on the menu and neither on the web site, is there any homage to Nellie Cashman history or her old Tombstone restaurant. (if it was there, I never saw it. I had to ask to make sure I was in the correct place) Instead we have a Mexican themed restaurant inside and out, Mexican music playing with a stupid schizophrenic menu, that not only has Mexican food on it but Italian food and Hot dogs and Hamburgers as well!! What the Hell... really?? The only Nellie thing I saw, was around the corner of the restaurant outside in the back is a sign hanging up high that does say the name "Nellie Cashman". The Food: The chips and salsa were good, but it's because I've tasted the salsa before somewhere... I think it's from Costco. That doesn't make it bad... but they should make their own salsa! I don't "know" if it was actualy home made... but.. I know when I had something from the store. The creamed corn soup was good and I would say it gets about a "B-". I also had the bruschetta; it was a large amount and was made with large slices of toasted french bread, not the small baguette size you would think. It consisted of chopped tomatoes & onions with a balsamic viniger drizzle... not a big deal, so it gets a "C-" at best. Lastly, my Chimichanga Plate - I ordered it with the green chile apose to the red, with refried beans and roasted corn. The corn was real good....it gets a "B-" but the refried beans had a watered down taste to them. It was like they ran out of beans or were making them last longer... so they get a real nice "D-". Then the Chimichanga... fried in a flower tortilla and I orded the beef. I guess the green chile was cooked in the meat, but I was thinking it would be a sauce on top. The meat was jusicy but Not too flaverful over all, and it was just the meat inside of it, nothing else. It was a big waste of my toung's time to taste. It gets a solid "D+" Over all, it's a kick in the crouch for poor Nellie Cashman. The Cafe Magarita has no love here Nellie and no love for good food or good business ideas

Large portions, reasonably priced and very friendly staff. We came here because the other restaurants on the strip seemed overpriced and snooty. When I'm paying for a service, customer courtesy is very important to me if you want to retain my bushiness or get my recommendations. Overall, I was very happy with this establishment. If all else fails, I guess there's always fast food in town...

We stayed in Tombstone two nights and ate here both times. I had a combo plate both nights and the food was great! Our waitress after our first meal gave us a coupon for a free desert if we came back, so we did. We decided to share a deep fried Snickers bar. I've never had o e of those. It was quite rich. Can now say, been there after that!

This little place is of the main street of Tombstone and is adorable! Kind of a funny mix of Mexican food and Italian, but the food was good and the waitresses were very nice! I also really loved the atmosphere, it was decorated so cute with a really nice little patio. Unfortunately it was too windy to sit outside, but with some live Mexican music inside (it was quiet music, not a band just a guy playing the guitar, very relaxing!) it was a great little stop for food.

Most awful service ever. Sign says "Wait to be seated", so we waited... should of been the first sign that this was going to be bad. We ended up finding our own table, the place was packed (holiday weekend). I was constantly looking around for a server and from the looks of it they only had two tending between inside and outdoor seating. About 20 minutes later our waitress made her way over we decided to get our drink order and food in at the same time so we didn't have to wait longer (we wanted to order margaritas but with the waitress also being the bartender we knew it would be a really long wait). I asked our waitress where her help was, did someone call out sick? She said no, this was it. Who doesn't bring extra help on a holiday weekend? I think about 25 people came and went since no one tended to them at the door. I think it took about 65 minutes to get our food, and several people were served before us even though we had been there longer. Well finally received our food... it wasn't half bad but we were starving at this point so I am sure anything would of been amazing. We got the bill and I was so dissatisfied with the service & wait time I had asked the waitress that she should at least comp our drinks (we only all had one bottle of beer since getting a second one was impossible), and also the stupid .99 charge for friggen sour cream. I would never generally ever do this but seriously it was friggen ridiculous. She got upset that I even asked (apparently she was the boss as well) she said everybody had to wait and I said I understood that but that several people were served before us just put the icing on the cake and 60 + minutes was unacceptable. She said no, but then offered a 10% discount which wasn't shit but whatever. I would never ever come back to this place mediocre food and awful service, they don't even deserve the 1 star but a review for this awful place was necessary.

Worst Mexican food I've ever had. You can go there. If you like stewed tomato salsa, stale tortilla chips, store bought tortillas and slow service. We had to get our own menus. Carne Asada was tough in some kind of creamed gravy, it may have been rat. Fish taco was some kind of strange mustard flavor. I asked server who seemed angry, how their fish tacos were? "fantastic" I say no way! Awful!!! Price ridiculous! A lunch to the tune of $56 dollar before tip for 3 adults and 2 children. We will never return!

I remember my food being better last time I was here. This time, the food was mediocre. The service was super slow. The air conditioning and iced water were great! :) The place itself is nice inside.. and I guess if you like either Italian or Mexican food, this is the place in Tombstone to go. Yes, it is a historical buidling, but I didn't see anything related to Nellie Cashman. Best thing on their menu was the pricky pear margarita, but note that Cafe Margarita is a part of the Longhorn/Big Nose Kate chain and you can also get that drink at the other locations. You can also get discounts from those other restaurants if you show them your receipt of dining within the chain.

Since we were in the old west and right next to the Mexican border, I was looking for great Mexican food and the right atmosphere. This place delivered! I got the tacos, a tamale, and margaritas. Everything I tasted was right on the money. We went for lunch but dinner on the patio with lights seems like it might be a fun experience.

I'll give two stars for the friendly server. But the food is terrible. (Took me long enough to write this, from my visit back on 8/2012) The decor on this place is very nice and makes you feel like, wow, I might just get something worth the price, but wrong. The food was very dissapointing especially for the price. The drinks/margaritas were or seemed to be watered down. Enough said. They need to try a bit with their "Mexican" dishes, especially being so close to the border. Very dissapointing.

My husband and I went to cafe margarita for lunch yesterday and I'm having the leftovers today for breakfast, which prompted me to write a review. I had the Chile relleno burrito and it was delicious! Cheesy and spicy and filling! He had the beef Chimichanga enchilada style and couldn't stop raving about how great it was! We'll definitely return!

Live Spanish guitar serenades in a flamboyantly colored cantina styled after the old west. It's picturesque and you can't help but linger about the beautifully painted tables. I felt like I was in a storybook every time I have eaten here. Great food with better prices than you'd expect in a tourist town.

Visiting Tombstone, we stumbled upon this restaurant thanks to fellow Yelpers. I'm somewhat puzzled by some of the bad reviews as our experience was quite the contrary. I'm a sucker for buildings on the NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES and this one is one of Tombstone's historic structures that just happens to house a mighty fine restaurant that serves Mexican and Italian food. We walked in and were greeted cheerily (is that a word?) and our server was just as pleasant and friendly as can be. The ambience is wonderful with music playing in the background. The place filled up really fast and it's obvious this is a local favorite. It's a tad loud but not too bad. My cheese enchiladas with roja sauce were magnificent. I got to choose my 2 sides and picked roasted corn and refried beans. While they were not piping hot like I like it to be (the enchiladas were!), they were very tasty. My partner enjoyed their fish tacos and gives them 5 stars. This will be a destination restaurant when we bring friends to Tombstone for a visit.

I was there two weeks ago. This was my second visit. It wasn't bad but it wasn't something to write home about either. The waitress was very nice. Not many people were there I think three other couples. For Mexican food I've had a lot better however this really wasn't too bad The Margarito was excellent. Very quiet in there and the decor is nice. Overall it was OK I'm not raving about it but I'm not going to knock it either. I would probably go back because it was so quiet. A couple of times I've been to big nose Kate's it was so loud I left with a headache. I would recommend it. As long as you don't go in thinking it's a five-star restaurant it's not it's just a cozy little Mexican Café with so-so food

The food was great as well as the service. The Chicken enchilada and the Chicken burrito were very tasty! We were met at the door and given the option of sitting inside or out on the patio. Once we sat down, we were greeted by the server very quickly. Good was prepared quickly and tasted great. While Tombstone is definitely a tourist trap looking for your $$, we found this restaurant to be extremely kind on your wallet/purse. Would definitely recommend folks eat here!!

We were a little apprehensive because it's Mexican and Italian but we gave it a go because a group walked out raving on the Mexican food. When we walked in there was only one server. I was worried it was going to be slow service. Actually it was extremely fast and friendly service. We had a group of 5 including my toddler and we all ordered something different. Drinks were awesome. Great varieties of margaritas. Mexican food was outstanding. Meat was tender everything was flavored well. We really enjoyed our food. Tortillas for sure homemade and prices were on point! Deff will return.

The Café Margarita in downtown Tombstone is the place to visit when you're hungry for great Mexican food. Although the menu has all types of food to satisfy your appetite, the fajitas are their specialty. The Café Margarita in Tombstone is a local favorite and I can let you know that it lived up to the hype. Café Margarita, like everything else in Tombstone, has its history. It was formerly the Russ House, a lodging house that was opened in 1880 by Sal Anderson and Jacob Smith. The Russ House had a clear view of the mine as well as one of the largest dining rooms in Tombstone. The lodging house had spring mattresses and many other "modern" amenities for that period. The Russ House is also associated with "The Angel of Tombstone", Nellie Cashman. Well, we decided to saddle on up to the Café Margarita after folks in town let us know that it was one of Tombstone's prime dining experiences. We started off with fresh guacamole and queso as appetizers. After a long day of sightseeing and visiting museums, we decided we were ready for the Prickly Pear Margarita our new friend Steve Goldstein had told us about earlier that day. All three menu items really hit the spot. The homemade guacamole was absolutely wonderful. It had the perfect consistency and captured all the flavors without any particular one standing out, bliss! The queso was a fresh inspiration for sore taste buds as well. I've been living in California for so long that I had forgotten what real queso tasted like! It's a rare commodity out there and when you do manage to find some, it certainly can't compete with the incredible Tex Mex flavors I grew up with. The Café Margarita did a beautiful job, so they both come highly recommended. And, what's not to like about the Prickly Pear Margarita? This 16-oz bombshell of a drink was made with lime, Prickly Pear Midori, Chambord and Grand Marnier. It was absolutely delicious and paired really well with our appetizers. I recommend you stop by for one! For the main course, we decided to get the house specialty, the sizzling hot fajitas! Wow, just take a look at the picture and you will see what I mean. We all decided on the beef fajitas, which were perfectly prepared and came with fresh tortillas, Mexican rice and refried beans. The fresh vegetable and beef combination was out of this world. Our hungry crew had been steered in the right direction when we were told that we must have dinner at the Café Margarita! We finished off our dinner with the wonderfully sweet and creamy Flan and a sipping tequila. We shared some great stories about the day's adventures while we sat by the warm fire listening to a live band. What ambiance! This will not be my last trip to the Café Margarita. You can bet on it!

Overall, I liked it and would go back. The food was salted, but not super flavorful. I had the grilled fish tacos and half of a wedge of carmello special (my husband's). The kids options are great with quesadilla, hot dog, taco and a few others with one side. When we arrived, the restaurant was 25% sat on a Sunday afternoon. We were a a group of six and there were two tables to choose from. We hovered around both negotiating which we preferred, when a gal came over asked how many and said that we could sit at either. Once we sat they gave us menus, got our drink order, served drinks and took our order. She allowed enough time but not too much. (Nothing notable.) After ordering we were served salsa and chips. Our food came out in a normal amount of time. Overall, not a must do again, but not awful either.

Took a day trip to Tombstone as people in Tucson do. We were having an excellent time and wanted some lunch with our dog. He was super welcome out on the patio at this cafe and honestly I would have requested to sit out there anyway. it is a closed off area with a door so its kinda like a secret garden area but in an adobe. It is a really cool spot. We looked all over the little downtown and this cafe looked like the absolute best food and location and atmosphere. The staff is a little overwhelmed it seems like on super busy days (like Wyatt Earp days for memorial day weekend) but they do a great job and the food is more than worth the wait. Try the prickly pear margarita and you will not be sorry! I only wish I had asked for it blended. It just means that I'll have to come back and have it blended next time :)

Not really a place I would want to go to again and here is why... Pros: The bathrooms are the nicest ones I think I have ever seen, the carmello is the best thing on the menu Cons: no one sat us (there was no hostess, the bus boy ended up seating us and wanted us to share a table), the waitress took another 10 minutes to come over and say hi, the bus boy did most of the work (he brought us drinks and chips), finally when our meal came my was completely over cooked and the enchilada was hard as a rock (she was not very happy that I complained and brought me another one in 2 minutes, which then made me wonder why is took 35 minutes to get our food if it took 2 minutes to replace an enchilada), the waitress took another 20 minutes to take our card and bring it back to us. Needless to say, not a fan.

I was looking for a place called Nellie Cashman's, which was still listed in the guidebooks but appears to have closed a couple years ago. I found this in its place, and since the only other option in the visible vicinity was a dull-looking burger joint, I ordered a "Sonoran dog," a frank with various fixings on it. I had never had one before, so I can't say how good it was, but it needs salsa to taste very interesting. What was good was the soup of the day, albondigas. Home-made style Mexican meatballs, the kind with rice in them, in the most amazingly tasty broth. What was less than good were the home-made potato chips that came with the dog. Home-made does not always mean good. Service was good. When I arrived, I was the only customer, though it was about 1 p[m, and the waitstaff were sitting at a table in the corner chatting over coffee. Not a good sign, but the hostess (who'd greeted me immediately upon arrival) nodded to them, and a waitress jumped right up and served me with full attentiveness for the rest of my stay.

Elsa welcomed us with open arms and had our group of 10 with 4 young children taken care of in no time! The Mexican food I've been craving for ages...authentic, perfectly seasoned, freshest tortillas, warm chips and tasty salsa, gorgeous guacamole...the list goes on. The restaurant is decorated beautifully and is pleasant and very clean. Elsa is top notch. She knew what we needed before we did... (milk and extra plates for the kids, soda refills, chips and salsa refills.) Portion sizes were right on. So glad we found this Tombstone gem!

First things first my wife has been here several times and prior to todays service she would have given this place 4 out of 5 stars. With her recommendation of this place I decided to choose this the Cafè Margarita as the food embassador of Tombstone for my parents who have come to visit from Washington state. Sadly I now find myself making excuses for the poor service and slow food. It is my, my wife, and my parents opinion that both aforementioned issues are the direct result in the abominable waitstaff, specifically our server Chelsea. Her poor people skills reminds me of what I assume Gestapo Soldiers were like in 1939 Germany. The blond haired waitress has a smile that when present darkens a sunny day. Finally her complete inability to apologize for her actions is truly the icing on the cake. So, with a 15 minute wait for a Pepsi, Tea and water, having to ask for the common restaurant essentials such as napkins and utensils, all in a place that was only running at about 1/3 capacity, the question has to be asked: why stay? To answer that I will have to give credit to the hostess/buss-girl, Taylor, as I've just been informed she is the owners niece. This poor girl was running around asking all the tables asking the patrons if they were okay and if they needed anything of her. I will conclude this long winded review by stating that although my time in the Cafè Margarita was poor, I will heed my wife, as all good husbands must do and return if not for anything other than giving this establishment an opportunity for redemption.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
