I have family that stay in the area during the summer and eat here fairly frequently and they love the place. When we joined them for a lunch this summer, even they were disappointed on the day we visited, so it seems evident that the quality of the food will vary greatly depending apparently on who is in the kitchen. Yes the chips and salsa are free, but the salsa was so bad (canned tomato flavor and runny as heck) and when we asked if there was a spicier salsa back there she could bring, the waitress returned with something that tasted like ketchup gone bad. The chile relleno was ok, but pretty soggy and overly breaded. The rest of the table had dishes that were ok and not great. Take your chances and maybe you'll find them on a good day.

Great hometown family restaurant, friendly staff, fast service. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Full menu, everything from a full steak dinner to hamburgers and kid meals, also a full variety of Mexican dishes all at reasonable prices. My favorite breakfast is the Booga Reds special, this is a sausage and cheese enchilada covered with a red or green sauce topped off with two eggs served with hash browns. The restaurant is frequented by the local residents, ranchers, and cowboys - which is good enough for me!! I never fail to have breakfast or lunch there when in town and never had a bad meal.

We really enjoyed our visit to Booga Red's. Another couple joined us for our anniversary, and we really liked the variety on the menu. One of us wanted a burger, and the other three wanted Mexican food. Our meal didn't take very long, and it tasted very good. The price was very reasonable. If you're in the Springerville area, and want a good small town restaurant, this is the place.

This is the second time in four days here at BOOGA REDS. We have enjoyed everything we have ever ordered. We like to eat here when we come through this way. Good food. Good service.

The service was good, but the food was not. The taco meat was essentially a chopped up hamburger patty with no taco seasoning in it whatsoever. Very bland and non-Mexican. The margaritas were wonderful!

Great enchiladas. Service lacks a little bit, but they are friendly. This has been a repeat spot for the Mrs. and I.

I used to eat here once a week, but now that I've retired and I live 50 miles away, I hadn't eaten here in a couple of yrs. I was really looking forward to the chimichanga, my favorite, and it's just as good as ever. I prefer beef, with green chili, naturally from Hatch county. It is as good as I remembered it. Wife, who usually sticks to a single taco ( I know, she's tiny), decided to chimi with me, and all she could say was how right I was. It's really all about the best green chili in the world, from Hatch, and perfectly seasoned guacamole. I'm always amazed by tourists from the east who consider themselves experts on Mexican food. There is so much more to learn from the southwest, hopefully they will appreciate our best restaurants in time. 5 stars all day long.

Had a very tasty bowl of Green Chile Corn Chowder @ my Cousins Uncle Buster's restaurant today! Erica was a great server and Adon was a very polite young cashier. Got to chat with my Aunt Margo & Uncle Buster Sr. too

The first thing you will note is that this restaurant had the name "booga" in it. The experience doesn't get a lot better from there. Food didn't taste fresh to me, which could have been an incorrect read of some major "gringoization" of the food. Salsa was tasty, but it seemed bottled. It wasn't spicy, but it was free. The main meal of a burrito was very underwhelming. My companions were equally unimpressed. The staff was nice and refilled drinks quickly. The decor is pretty basic. All in all, this is a place for locals and not a place I would recommend for all but the most famished of travelers. There are better places almost a literal stone's throw away. Still, I didn't get sick and it still wasn't the worst food I've ever had, so I gave it a 2.5 star. Meh is right.

This place gets such raves on occasion, including Arizona Highways, that it makes you wonder about the bandwagon effect, or the emperor with no clothes. It is a local restaurant with edible food, but as far as a regional gourmet Mex, well, that's a far off dream. The food was average for a small town restaurant, the green chili was no better than a dozen other restaurants, but consider that the small town effect here makes it an apparent standout among a very sparse selection. Hardly worth a special trip, and I suspect if they gave up the goofy name, they wouldn't have much else going for them. And please, " real Mex", as if.

Automatic extra star for complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa is excellent, too! Had the half sandwich and cup of soup. The Mexican soup was delicious, and the sandwich was excellent. I would recommend this place to anyone going to or through Springerville.

The Fam and I came here one afternoon because Los Dos Molinos was closed until dinner service. We had looked up the reviews and saw they were decent. I can't stress enough how disappointed we were. The chips were stale and the salsa was worse than Pace Picante, more like Safeway Brand. We had hoped that the margaritas would redeem them but were sadly mistaken. My bean burrito was so cold and tasteless I asked for some hot sauce (tabasco, cholula... something) to somehow make it edible and was told that they didn't have any...

Not a bad spot to stop in for a quick bite. Salsa was not the best but I had the eight layer burrito and was not bad.

if you ever find your self in Springerville , do stop in this place for drinks, and really good Mexican food ! I ordered breakfast and dinner here, I was with a large group, and heard no complaints about the meal. They were a little understaffed for a Friday night, but, was a pleasurable experience.

Stopped in here for a quick "to go" burrito on my way out of Springerville after a work trip. My bean and cheese burro was just okay, service was adequate, the chips tasted store bought and slightly stale, and the Coke was flattish. As another reviewer stated the salsa tasted like Pace. All of that wouldn't have been near as bad if I hadn't spent almost 10 dollars for the priveledge.

Seems like my review will be slightly different than previously ones....I gave it a shot because of the high reviews and it was across the street from my hotel. For sure, this was not traditional Mexican food. Rice was tasteless and out of a box, beans came from a can on the same shelf, my chicken enchilada was boring and my beef taco had some sort of pressed beef patty in a hard shell. Never found a single onion or cilantro, I would compare the whole experience with a TV dinner or a meal from the galley when I was a sailor. The service was fine with the waitress very friendly with that being the only reason I gave more than 1 star.

Went here while in town for work. This place was good! The red sauce was tasty and service was friendly and fast. I had the enchilladas. The chips and salsa were good too. Would definitely go back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
