I was just driving through and couldn't help stopping at a place that was called a wateringhole for a beer. The bartender was friendly and inviting and it turned out that the BBQ was the best I have ever had in my life! I live 150 miles away from this place but when I get the urge for BBQ this is where I will be going. If you are near this place, do yourself a favor and stop in!

Great little spot in a great little town. I only tried the pulled pork sandwich, but it was one of the best I've ever had in a restaurant. The prices were right, the employees were friendly, and the selection of food was pretty amazing. Being attached to a bar, gas station, and little store means there's something for everyone.

If you like ribs do yourself a favor and stop in at Avery's. My wife declared them THE best ever, which hurt my feelings but I don't care because she's right! Great sides, nice people, we will be visiting again soon.

The food is good. The brisket was tender and moist. Was there with a group of 13. Service was quick. Mac and cheese was home made. Only negative was no sausage was available.

Really good barbecue and the owners are super friendly and very passionate about their craft. We tried the pulled pork sandwich which was so tender it melts in your mouth and the brisket sandwich was deliciously smoky with lots of flavor. The place is clean and remodeled and very westerny. The value is great I didn't find it overpriced at all as it's comparable to what you'd pay for a BBQ restaurant in the valley. I hope the locals patronize it to keep it open for business so when I'm visiting I can enjoy some good bbq. The sauce is delicious too. It's homemade and served warm !

I love me some ribs, and have tried my fair share all over this country. I would rate these ribs among the best I've had. The staff was very friendly and if you're ever passing through, stop by and you won't be disappointed.

We stopped here to top off our gas tank. But after stepping inside and smelling the heavenly aroma of smoked meat, leaving without tasting was not an option. My wife and I split a brisket sandwich. The brisket was perfect, and the bun must have been toasted just enough to add some crunch to the moist, tender beef. So we went back for an order of pulled pork. Equally delightful. Springerville is probably not on the main road to anywhere, but Avery's is worth a side trip, if you are anywhere nearby. The service was friendly, the smoked meat was totally off-scale. There is a nice looking bar, but it was too early in the day to try it out. And don't let the images of the pool tables lead you to conclude it's (just) a pool hall. Go here for the fabulous meat. Bars and pool halls are relatively easy to find, smoked meat this good is worth going out of your way for.

Really good food. First time we came was excellent service with the owner, tonight still awesome food but different waitress, not such great service.

My Wife and I stumbled on "Avery's while stopping for fuel and passing through. The Scent of smoked meats were so incredible we stayed for lunch. My wife had the pulled pork and I had the brisket. Hands down this isone of the best BBQ's we've ever had. We're traveling across country as we do every year, and will make sure we come back next year. Barry L.

Wow, Lori was right! I did not know what to order so I asked a few questions and she was spot on! The pulled chicken sandwich is to die for !! Wow, the place and the staff are real hems. Only thing wrong is I live two full days away. I found Avery's by the absolutely fabulous smell of wood smoke as I rode by and had to stop! The food came out hot and delicious. Everything was fresh, well presented and tasted great. I had the pulled chicken sandwich with a side of their baked beans. I've had plenty of bar-B-Q in Texas and Avery's is amount the tops!

My boyfriend and I are currently traveling across the country on foot. After walking for five months, we finally made it to the state of Arizona. While passing through Springerville, AZ (which is the first town that we hit after leaving New Mexico) we stopped at Avery's, a "mom and pop" one stop shop. Avery's includes a gas station, BBQ, bar & grill and RV park. It is super convenient for travelers (especially those who are traveling cross-country). We originally stopped to stock up on supplies for our 50 mile trek to the next town of Show Low. As we were picking out some drinks and snacks at the convenience store, we smelled the BBQ and instantly knew that we had to try it. We were greeted by Lance Avery, he and his wife Liz own the establishment and work there six days out of the week. We asked him what he would suggest, he told us that his personal favorite item on the menu is the pulled pork sandwich. We couldn't decide on only one thing, so the two of us shared a rack of ribs and the sampler (which includes BBQ chicken, beef brisket & pulled pork). We also got the mac & cheese and pecan coleslaw for sides. We have walked through Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas & New Mexico and Avery's BBQ is by far the best we have had since we started our journey in Florida. Who would have known that the best BBQ would come from the small town of Springerville, Arizona! That isn't to say that we didn't have great BBQ in the other states. Every BBQ restaurant we had been to before had their specialty, which was always the best prepared meat on their menu. What sets Avery's BBQ apart from the others is that every meat was so delicious, we couldn't figure out what their specialty was! We finally asked, and Lance told us that their ribs are their specialty (which are absolutely fall off the bone AMAZING) but that doesn't make any of their other meats any less special. After stuffing ourselves with BBQ, we decided to hop on over to the bar & grill area for a drink. The Watering Hole isn't your run of the mill country bar. Equipped with pool tables, air-hockey, darts, and live music on the weekends, this cozy western style bar & gill has something for everyone. The bar has a great variety of spirits and beers on tap. They also have multiple drink specials but Liz can whip up pretty much anything you can imagine. By the time we were done chatting with Liz and the locals at the bar, it was too late for us walk any further so we decided to stay the night at the RV park behind the shop. In the morning, we finally stocked up on our supplies and headed west toward Show Low. With the combination of the convenience (of this "one stop shop"), incredible BBQ, and Liz & Lance's hospitality, Avery's definitely made an impression on us. If you find yourself in Springerville, AZ, we highly suggest that you don't miss out on this amazing gem!

I wish I could give more stars. I really do. The problem was, the Yelp app led me astray. First, the hours are listed as 24/7. Crazy, huh? Especially for a place on the outskirts of a town you can fully experience in about 15 minutes. No, I mean fully experience. I've heard so many good things about this place, I rode my trail 30 miles one way over forest trails in the White Mountains to get to Avery's and try some 'cue. The Yelp app driving directions led me down a side street in Eager, next to the high school, to a house with several large tractor-trucks parked around it. This did not smell like barbecue to me. It was a house. That smelled like diesel fuel and grease. Finally, I hit the webpage for Avery's and found it on the outskirts of Springerville, a couple miles from where Yelp led me. I pulled up to a large building with a western themed (log cabin-ish) facade. Gas pumps and a convenience store on one end, and not a vehicle in the lot. No smell of smoking and I could hardly tell if this place was even occupied. Sign in the window says something about "new summer hours" and what caught my eye was "Sunday: Closed" DAMN! Thanks Yelp, you really helped here. So, having visited Avery's while closed, I can tell you that despite being difficult to find if you are using the Yelp app, the parking lot is big and well-graded, there's not a lot of shade, but this is open country, so that's more or less expected, the building is clean and looks nice, and if you need, there is a convenience market with gas pumps. Maybe next time I'll actually get to try some brisket.

Really good BBQ and very friendly staff! This place was a nice surprise to come to while passing through Springerville. The restaurant itself is very spacious with a bar and a stage for live music. It's a local favorite and I can't say enough about the how good the food is here. There are a variety of meat and sides to choose from. I highly recommend if you are in the area.

We stopped here based on yelp reviews and wanting to have BBQ on our way out of town. DEFINITELY worth the stop. Great traditional BBQ. We had three pulled pork sandwiches and a beef brisquet sandwich with Mac n' Cheese, corn on the cob and sweet potato fries. The Mac and Cheese was homemade with loads of cheese and was a hit with everyone. The corn had their spice rub on it which was great for the adults, not so much the kids. Their sauce is good but doesn't have a spicy bite that we're used to at home at Joe's BBQ...but it was good. They only served Pepsi products so if you're Diet Coke drinkers like us, that's a ding. Slightly strange that it was next to a gas station/bar, but we were in the middle of nowhere and it added to the quirky country/po-dunk ambiance. Overall, this was a great traditional BBQ and we'll return when we head through this part of arizona.

This place is great! Super friendly in food area and bar. The BBQ brisket and the pork were superb. The sauce had just the right amount of sweet and tangy. The macaroni and cheese was the best I've ever had! It was sticky, not runny and the cheese was chewy. So good!

Avery's has everything I need...fuel for my car at their gas station, a well stocked convenience store, delicious BBQ in their family restaurant and a great place to unwind at Avery's Waterhole!

Simply some of the best BBQ that you will ever get your hands on. Fantastic service, cleanliness, and atmosphere. Avery's apparently marinates and smokes their BBQ for almost 24 hours. The meat is very tender but surprisingly as long as its smoked - not too smoky as can be the case with hickory or mesquite. Avery's uses almond and oak, a unique and tasty blend not found in many other establishments. The macaroni is truly homemade, southern comfort food style; I went back for another order. All this at very fair prices, an entire family platter is $25 or so and you would pay twice this for less quality at most places. Do yourself a favor and don't hesitate to make this your next stop.

Oh so yummy!! The Mac n cheese is the best I have ever had. Chicken and brisket can tend to be dry, but not here. Pork, beef, chicken, and ribs were all moist and juicy. Interested coke slaw that was terrific. I thought the BQ rolls would be rolls to put the meat on. I was wrong. They were little bbq egg roll things that were fabulous for an appetizer. Hubby wasn't thrilled with the beans. He is a bbq bean snob and is so hard to please in that department. The food took a little while to come out, but that just meant everything was cooked to order and everything was delicious. I was disappointed that they were out of sausage. Oh well. It was worth the trip after Yelp got us lost. Don't follow Yelp's directions. Good job, Averys!!
