Not good.. went in traveling across state with a buddy. an I hade the t- bone stake dinner for 27 dollars. I received dinner salad that was brown looked a few days old. Then out came the main course cold reheated zuccini and reheated mash potatos no flab or then to the steak lol the steak was not even close to a flat iron from any reputable steak house. Used excessive Montreal steak seasoning. Will never think or refer anyone to this place really sad .

The atmosphere was great we ate up on top at the sports bar area but it was way too dark to read the menu. Big mistake. After we ordered it took at least 45 minutes get our burgers and the burgers were way on the salty side with the meat still red in the middle. Ugh! We were happy with our fried pickles as they were so delicious and our waitress was super friendly.

I've eaten here 4 times and each time was blah. To bad as it could be a great place to eat. The steakhouse on the hill serves better quality of meat and the sides are better.

A great find! We happened to spot it on the way to Phoenix. Great burgers and an extensive beer selection. If I ever have the chance to go back ,you can bet I will.

Our first visit will not be our last. I keep thinking about the delicious porterhouse steak we had. It was the best! We were very pleased with our meal - a bit pricey but so very good. The service was excellent. They give you a small sundae if it is your birthday.

I come to Safford 4 or 5 times a year. I've never had a great meal here, but with the lack of good restaurants in town, I keep hoping things will improve. Steaks are always a poor cut, way too thin, and overcooked. I got a 12 ounce Ribeye, medium rare and it came out at only 1/2" thick, bright pink, and grainy. I know that everywhere can have a bad night, but after 5 years, I still get thin and over cooked. The bar is nice, but don't throw your money away on a steak.

The food is good but the service consistently seems to be an issue. We were the only ones in the dining room but getting a box for food seemed to be a 15 minute issue after taking 90minutes for dinner. Such good food but so painful. We go early to avoid the issue but that still didntcwork

We are traveling to New Mexico and our hotel recommended our trying Copper Steer. We arrived before they opened, NO problem. Staff friendly, got us drinks, salmon was delicious and onion rings and fresh bread was great! W e would highly recommend! we thought for all you got to eat the price was very reasonable

I got the ribs - they were so good! The meat fell right off the bone, it was so tender! I've heard a lot of good things about this restaurant and I wasn't disappointed! It was clean and the food came quickly. Our server, Patrick, was super friendly and helpful.

I don't know where to begin or how to start other then to say I had a horrible experience. The server took forever to fill up my Pepsi which I thought was odd as this was a high end restaurant. Second I ordered ribs and they were dry and tough. I lost my appetite when I saw one of the cooks (Hispanic looking dude clean cut no hat) keep the same pair of gloves on as he touched uncooked chicken and beef (major health hazard). I am a big boy and so when I left 3/4 of my ribs on the plate and didn't even take them home, that tells you how disgusted I was as what I saw, felt, and tasted. Sadly Copper Steer came highly recommended by my co-workers but I will not be returning or recommending this cow pasture.

This is a decent place for the area. Nothing spectacular it's a far cry from a Morton's, Flemmings or Ruth's C. It is a bit over priced. If you are in town a want a mesquite grilled steak, this is the place!

  • Kevin P.

Best steakhouse in Safford hands down. My steaks are always phenomenal and cooked just the way I like. Cooked over an open mesquite pit gives it amazing flavor. If you are not sure what to get, the steak and grilled shrimp are a perfect choice. The service was perfect from the host to the waitress. We will definitely be back for more!

Great Ribs!!! Service is hit or miss, tonight ours sucked as usual... Have had the rib eye as well very good and cooked to request, little pricey for the service that is given but still the best ribs in town always a favorite.

I went here on Saturday night for a private party and had chicken and ribs, salad, and baked potato. The food was great, ribs were fall off the bone tender. Great place to go, food was great, friendly service.

Excellent! The food was great, the price was fair, and our server Tasha was fantastic. If you are in the area, be sure to stop by this place for dinner!

I am enjoying another visit with my associates for lunch... You know, I've had three meals here since I began this review, each time I've tried something different the ribs, I made the mistake of ordering the full rack, and that was hilarious. I felt like I had a half a pig on my plate. My friends laughed at me, trying to finish it all, I was not able to, and brought home most of it, and finished it later. It was spectacular! I think next time I will ask for them to put less barbecue sauce on it, however everything else was wonderful. next, I tried the bacon cheeseburger, and ask them to put a hatch chili on it. It was also incredible. The mesquite wood fired grill makes the difference! Tonight, I am back here for the infamous Vaquero burger!

  • Jim P.

Juana was a great waitress. Ribs were very good, excellent in fact. Rib eye wasn't as good very thin cut... It wasn't the quantity that was the issue, just not the same with such a thin ribeye. $9 a glass seemed kinda steep for a Chardonnay. Anyway great service, pretty good ribs, should a had the burger instead of the ribeye (the 12 oz). The grill is awesome.

We took our daughters family here for dinner while camping at nearby Lake Roper State Park. We arrived shortly after the opened and the smell of mesquite smoke greater us as we exited the car. We were seated in the corner of the large main floor dinning room, It has a cement floor and cedar lined walls and many of the fixuters and art work are a result of the owners "creative recycling" efforts. What a great way to decorate, but that is not what this review is about. The food (Prime Rib and Stakes) were outstandingly delicious. The service was slow and we were aware of that going in as that seems to be the only negative comment that we read more than once in the reviews we read before coming here. All five of us said that we would come back because the food was just that good. If they could get the servers to the same level as their food they would be the cream of the crop, and that is what the difference between 4 and 5 stars is.

My husband and I had dinner here because he said it was the best place in town. He has been working out of town (we live in Las Vegas) all summer and I drove here so we could spend some much-needed time together. We ordered our drinks, and waited fifteen minutes for them to arrive. It was Friday evening, and we were seated in the "saloon", and could see that the bartender was busy. When the drinks finally arrived, they were good so I let the time we waited go. We ordered our food when she brought the drinks. As we sat in the bar waiting for our food, we noticed staff members congregating behind the bar. I heard the manager ask why there were more than just the bartender behind the bar, but didn't notice any of them move out from behind the bar. I didn't really think about that until later, however. I went to the ladies room while we were waiting for our food. The soap dispenser was gross. It appeared to have been refilled more than once, because the soap inside (it was NOT a commercial grade dispenser, just the cheap see-through kind you buy at the dollar store) was separating and had floating flakes suspended in it. Plus, no towels for drying my hands. Altogether disgusting. (My husband reported no paper towels in the men's room either.) I have never written such a long review, but bear with me because all of this needs to be said in the hope that the Copper Steer reads it and sees areas they can improve. The staff was nice, but nice staff doesn't carry a restaurant if everything else is awful. Anyway, we waited an hour for our food, and when it arrived, it was nasty. My sirloin was cold, tough, and tasted terrible. My baked potato was cold. The zucchini was yummy!! And thankfully, my husband's ribs weren't too bad so I didn't go hungry. I brought the bad steak to the attention of the manager, and she removed the price from the check. The thing is, the steak was $14 on the menu; she took $9 off the bill. Guess keeping a customer wasn't worth giving away a baked potato and some sautéed zucchini. Unbelievable. So.... Live and learn. We won't be returning to the Copper Steer, but I hope they see this review and make some improvements. As I said, the staff was friendly and seemed to understand my complaint. A good restaurant can become great if they learn from their mistakes!

Well, I read the reviews and was forewarned but the options in Safford are slim, so we tried it anyway. My husband and I both ordered the NY Strip with baked potato and asparagus. My steak was okay; flavor wasn't bad and it was reasonably tender for $22. My baked potato, on the other hand, needed another 45 minutes in the oven because it definitely was raw in the middle and hard as a rock. The asparagus was perfectly cooked and delicious. My husband's steak unfortunately, although the same cut allegedly, was a pile of tendons, fat and gristle. When he tried to cut it, it just strung apart as if it was an accordion. His baked potato was perfect as was the asparagus. The waitress was attentive and timely, but with a steak like that coming out of the kitchen there wasn't much to talk about. It's highly unlikely that we'll give it a second shot because his steak was just hideous.

We went to Safford for a Saturday day trip. We stopped to eat here because of the local recommendations. When we arrived we were impressed with the rustic western decor. The waitress was friendly. We ordered two burgers and I was told we couldn't have it rare because of the burger had to be cooked to a certain temperature. We went ahead and order it medium, along with bacon. Our food came out at an acceptable time frame, however it was a over cooked beyond medium. But we were so hungry we went ahead and ate it. The bacon was extremely over cooked, it was almost bacon jerky. We had to remove the bacon from our burger in order to eat it. The fries were spectacular and the flavor of the over cooked bacon and burger was good. The food hinted of the mesquite fire pit grill they cooked it on. We showed up saturday early afternoon, and there seemed to be only one waitress actually working out of 3-4 other waitresses. She had 4 big tables by herself and no other waitresses to be found. I had to find her to get more coca cola, which to me is no big deal since I knew she was busy. The next time we saw her it was when we flagged her down for the check. Im not going to give bad marks to the waitress and her slow service since she was busy and seem to have no help. I will give bad marks to management since they clearly had no backup for her. I could have given the food hire marks if it werent overcooked when it was served to us. I think it should be an option to have the burger cooked to order. I like my burger medium rare and a steak house should offer that service in my opinion. If your looking to try a steak house with a cool theme and excellent fries. I would recommend this place and only if they straighten out there waitressing schedule and table assignment. I would specifically make a point to ask not have them over cook the food.

I had a good experience at this establishment. Food was good, prices were on the high side. Menu had many options, you could easily find something to fit your mood. Service was great, the night manager Patrick was a stud! The serving staff were all very young...or maybe Im just very old! Our waitress was slow to refill drinks and couldn't answer our questions but was very friendly. The building was clean and had a cool vibe, I'd eat here again.

Place has gone down hill recently. I used to be able to count on my steak being cooked to order, but that hasn't happened in some time. They've also expanded but the parking situation here is a nightmare.

Whatever the issues were in 2014 that resulted in low reviews were, they have obviously been fixed. I figured seeing the open-flame wood-fired grill that there might be inconsistency in the cooking. I was so deliciously wrong. Every bite of the smoked prime rib was a perfect example of the medium-rare I ordered. The stuffed jalapeños were another pleasant surprise. Being New Mexican, we are hard critics of anything that involves chile. The jalapeños themselves were expectedly mild (no one does it like home) but they tasted fresh-picked and they were bigger than any we've had in Texas. The bacon wrap completing the dish was definitely something to write home about. Service was prompt and polite. Noise level was about what you'd expect from a down-home steakhouse. I'd give it a 5 star if it hadn't been for the fact that I had to repeat every order 3 times before the server got it scribbled down right.

Copper Steer Steakhouse has become a regular stop for us when in Safford. The menu has expanded since my last visit. The have an appetizer section now with a cold seafood platter as their special dish. Well, one might wonder cold fresh seafood in the middle of a desert? Nah! I will stick to the beef! This visit, the aroma of mesquite from the open grill was enough to want me to eat every beef dish on the menu. I saw what a 24 ounce steak = Yikes! and to think one human could consume all that in one seating.... I guess there are people who do if they serve it right? Well- I surprised myself because I ordered it and ate all but for a couple ounces..... A definite must if you are in Safford

Are you kidding me? Just because you are a small town doesn't mean that you can have spectacularly horrible service. I went the first Monday in July and it was not crowded at all. So the lousy meal I had was completely uncalled for. When I arrived I was asked if I wanted to sit in the saloon or the dining area. I let the hostess know that I would sit wherever they preferred. She sat me in the saloon so I thought that I'd be taken care of. I was sadly mistaken. I sat at my table for almost 30 minutes before someone took my drink order. I was literally waving my arms around trying to get someones attention as the people seated at other tables were being serviced. I would have left if I'd known about any other place to eat but I was hungry and too tired to search for another location. When the waitress (who was not working in the saloon) came to take my drink order I ordered my food at the same time. It took a while for my food to come but I was, at that point, too famished to check the time. When my food arrived I was pleasantly surprised that it was decent. The steak was cooked to my specifications. It was nicely seasoned and pretty yummy. Shortly after bringing my meal a waitress checked on me and I told her everything was OK. I then cracked open a book and read while I enjoyed my meal. It didn't take me long to eat because, as previously mentioned I was famished. When I was done with my meal I pushed my plate away and set my credit card on the corner of the table. Two universal signs for "I'm ready to go". 20 minutes later no one had come over to clear my plate or take my money or even check to make sure I hadn't choked on my steak and perished. I played the try to catch a waitress' eye game for a while, flapped my arms around a while then looked at the time. It had been nearly two hours since I'd walked into that place. Needless to say, I was sufficiently annoyed. I had to walk up to the bar to pay. And I had to go out of my way to get someones attention at the bar. I have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant. I was absolutely livid. When I paid, I, for the first time in my entire life, did not leave a tip. I feel like I should have been paid for the extra flipping time I spent there. I take consolation in the fact that I got a mini workout with all of the flapping my arms around to get someones attention. I seriously hope that this was a fluke and that the people that work there are not truly that crappy.

Great portion size and good quality. Salad bar is mediocre. Still better than fast food or a chain restaurant. Ambiance okay considering Safford is basically a small town

We had dinner here this evening and it was very good. Its wrong to compare this place to Texas Roadhouse or even the Outback, two good, dependable steakhouses. The steaks are better at the Copper Steer. We sat at the bar with two guys who are working in the area and they swear by this place as being the best in town. The bartender and staff were great. Its not very far from the Comfort/Days Inn/Quality trio which are owned by the same guy as the Mason eatery across the street. Even if you are tired, get off your duff and mosey on down to the Copper Steer- you'll be glad you did. And the 32 ounce drafts in frozen mugs- mmmmm.

I read some other reviews wherein complaints on the salad bar were present. I ate there last night (5/24/13) and there is NOTHING WRONG with that salad bar. It had all the standard offerings and the gal was replenishing low items as I approached it. My burger was good. I am not much of a meat guy. My wife drags me and she had steak. Not a darned thing wrong with any of it. Darned good. Ignore the whiney babies.

Have you ever had one of those dinning experiences where every choice is wrong? it leaves you barfing and in tears? This was one of those. The place was recommended by the front desk girl at the hotel I stayed at. I walked into the Copper Steer and was met by very nice wait staff. They gave me three choices; dinning room, bar, or sports pub. I chose the sports pub. Well it did have tvs, but the cowboy music was so loud that I couldn't watch the baseball game. The menu was rather small in selection and a bit too expensive. I ordered the Black Angus Bacon Cheeseburger. It must have been cooked last Saturday it was dry and crispy. The bacon was like little charcoal bits. It was over seasoned with garlic salt, really over seasoned. Thank God, because I think I bit into a toenail. No! Really, I took it outside and looked at it in the Sun after my meal. Oh, the French Fries were good, but they are pretty hard to get wrong; Open the plastic bag, put in a single layer on the baking sheet at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Then, I went back to my hotel room where the barfing and crying ensued.

It was 4:00pm on a Saturday. Warning. Only read if your desire is to be forewarned. The take out order was cold, probably because it was sitting on the counter prior to the time I entered and was still there 15 minutes as I stood and waited to be helped. Or acknowledged. Or looked my way in the general direction of. "I will go check on your order" resulted in a lengthy wait and no comment when he returned to the host stand- where the food was sitting already mind you. Later when a ticket was presented to me as I paid i casually asked how much longer do you think it might be which was when I discovered that was it on the counter. Hmmmmm. So did the wielder of the ticket proceed to ready that food? Would it entertain you to know that she did not? Instead she walked away? The host was still there minding to his book. The food sitting ignored about 20" behind him. Now we are at 45 minutes since I called in the order that was purported to take 20 minutes "but (they) would call if ready sooner!" So after discovering that poor deserted dinner was in fact the one I was seeking i asked the host if he would mind handing it to me (keep in mind I paid about 5 minutes ago). So he hands me four stacked go containers. No utensils. No napkins. No bag for that matter. Do you think I was surprised when I got back to my motel room with no butter for the baked potatoe. No salads with ranch on both and no dinner bread? Do you think I was surprised it was ice cold? Nah not so much. Well spent $65 if I do say so myself. You have been warned. You cannot complain if you ignore this WARNING TERRIBLE SERVCE and venture in.

This is one of the coolest steak houses I've ever been in! Rustic atmosphere and friendly staff make this a favorite of mine. I have recommended copper steer to all of my friends.

  • Kerry P.

It was pretty good. Expensive. I had the salmon. Probably should have had the steak. The bar makes an excellent drink, a clamato, which is a Bloody Mary except the vodka is swapped out for dos Equis. It is amazing! I really didn't think I would like it but it's great. I have already recommended the copper steer to a friend with the disclaimer that the place is expensive, but sometimes an event calls for a special place. If your in the area and in the mood for top drawer food - go there!

All things considered, I have to give this place 4 stars. I'm not a fan of BBQ/steak house fare (I know, how un-American of me!) but my salmon was cooked perfectly which is very rare when eating out, usually it's over cooked & dry. It was, however, smothered in a thick, sweet fruity sauce I didn't care for but I don't have a sweet tooth. Husband had (I forget the name) ribs, steak & grilled chicken dinner. Ribs were served a bit cold but tasted good. Steak was good. The teenager had a "Bull Rider Burger" topped w bacon & onion ring & side of sweet potato fries. He said it was "Awesome". Big portions, good quality food, decent service, great 'country' atmosphere. Fun family joint. Oh, very reasonably priced.

Got the 12oz ribeye medium rare, received a low quality cut medium to medium well. Very disappointed in the quality of meat.

I am a steak eater and griller, so I know steaks. Also, I know where I was when I walked into Copper Steer Steakhouse. I was in Safford Arizona, not NYC, not Chicago, not Kansas City. With that in mind I give this place 4 stars. Because for where it is, it more than met my expectations. I was not expecting Ruth Chris, or Smith and Wollenski's or Morton's or Harry Carey's. I got a pretty decent steak in a small town off the beaten path. I ordered the 12 oz rib eye and I got a 12 oz rib eye. It was cooked as ordered and did have a nice mesquite smoke flavor. The accompanying sweet potato was small disappointment. The salad bar was rather meager. The beer was nice and cold, served in a chilled mug. The corn side dish was flavorful, but not anything I could not repeat at home with a simple turn of the can opener. A couple of my 6 co diners, raved that it was the best steak they had ever had. I kept my mouth shut, I assumed as an international diner, with the pounds around the midsection to prove it, that I had had a deeper grilled steak experience than they had. Will I go there again? Sure. Is it the best steak I have ever had - no, not close. I also don't doubt that it is the best steak around for a 100 miles.

One star is one to many . The service is horrible unless you have nothing else named for the evening . You can literally wait 30 min before you get a drink order . They always blame it on the bar . But if you sit in the bar it takes that long too . The food is better than ok , and if your lucky it won't be to over cooked .

  • J G.

Good quality meat, in fact my sirloin was a huge baseball cut, good seasoning. The works on the baked potatoes looked very good, though I didn't allow myself to partake. Carrots were very flavorful. It did take quite awhile to get our food (Friday night), even with 2 guys operating the huge fire-pit. The room is fairly smoky, from what the hood can't handle, if one had breathing problems, it might not be a good idea to dine here. Prices were maybe a bit on the high side for such a remote place, but I think they are one of the best dinner establishments in town ;)

my grandma grew up in safford and we were in town for her celebration of life. the original house she grew up in is still along the highway and we decided to go peek at the house we got to hear so many stories about. while driving we passed this log-cabiny restaurant and looked it up on yelp. it had pretty decent reviews and it was better than the other options around town so we went. you get a ton of food. i had a steak and roasted tomatoes, which also came with 2 sides, salad bar and fresh bread. you can see the chef right in the front cooking on his HUGE mesquite grill. the ribs my nieces ordered were impossible to eat with your hands because the meat just kept slipping off the bone. they looked super tasty. it was a cutesy little place and i would definitely go again if i were stuck in safford. good job!

Please note that Monday - Thursday they don't open til 4pm. Their website says 3pm which we found out the hot way. We went back at 4. The ambiance is very much our taste. Old west cowboy style. The veggie beef soup had great flavor but was overpowered by pepper. Still worth it if you like pepper. The salad bar is designed to allow you to customize your side salad. It is not an attempt at being a meal. I appreciated the option of customizing. We both had steak. My guy had the ribeye med rare. It was done perfectly. The flavor was good. I had the t bone. It was cooked to a decent med rare. It had the texture of being brined in salt water before grilling. It was good but not great. The zucchini that was served with dinner was perfect in all aspects. The service was fantastic. Our server was friendly, funny, and thorough. Would definitely dine there again on another visit.

i agree with all the other 5 star reviewers. This place is the best steakhouse in AZ! My wife and I go here for every special occasion and love there steak sandwiches and ribs, chicken and steak combo and share a salad (plenty of food for two of you).

  • John C.

I've cooked better steaks on my George Foreman. I think they have a good idea but they failed on cooking. My salad never showed up and when I asked basic BBQ/Grill questions the staff couldn't answer any of them. The locals have told me the quality varies on the chef but the ribs are always good so If you go, I guess try the ribs. Stay away from the steak...

Copper Steer: 1 Star. My wife and I ate at the Copper Steer Steakhouse this evening and were sorely unimpressed. Our server was ok, however when I questioned about an illegitimate charge on my bill, the assistant manager was called over who made excuses for the person responsible for the charge. Instead of simply saying it was not big deal and taking care of it, she proceeded to make our SERVER pay us for the mistake out of her own packet despite the fact it was NOT her fault. The assistant manager was far from cordial and had no desire to assist in our poor experience. We will NEVER eat there again. This was our second time eating there, thus making our second very poor experience.

Its about time Safford! My hat tip to the owners! It is about time Safford got a steakhouse that is worthy of being called a steakhouse! This place has fall off the bone ribs that would rival any BBQ place up in the valley (if not beat the pants off of) I had sirloin steak and ribs, mashed potatoes and chicken wings for appetizers. I also had the cowboy beans and they were horrible tasting, but beans are always a toss up. I did not like them at all and would hope they switched to a more traditional baked bean, or chili. I wish I could give it more then 5 stars and I am actually sad that it is away in Safford (3 hours from Queen Creek). My Father In Law - Dan Hays turned me onto this place and promised me that it was every bit as good as Texas Roadhouse - HE WAS WRONG - ITS BETTER!!!! GO HERE! You will love it. Again, ITS ABOUT FREAKING TIME SAFFORD to get a place like this. Branding Iron is laughable, Bricks even worse....this is a place where you can get real BBQ. AWESOME!!!

I love The Copper Steer. The food is amazing and is one of the nicer places to get good food. I usually get the steak sandwich or the salmon. I love them both but the salmon comes with a raspberry chipotle sauce on it which is not my favorite. I will say the only thing I really dislike is the service. It seems to be very hot or miss here. It does seem like that is getting better.

Five stars in Safford, but only four in Phoenix. This is the best dinner one can get in this eastern Arizona town. They grill over mesquite and always seem to grill things to perfection. The salad bar is anemic. Prices are only $$. - actually a good value. I'm out this way frequently on business at the nearby copper mines, so I've had most everything on the menu. Other than a couple of decent Mexican restaurants this is THE place to eat in Safford.

Too pricey for the quality. The salad bar was a joke. There were more salad dressings than salad items. The baked potato was passable, although the 'fire house chili' they topped it with was not spicy, but sweet. Sweet chili is a cardinal sin.

  • Jeff K.

It was a steak house. They do steaks. Service was standard. Nothing great. Food was good. We are spoiled with steak houses in Chicago that outshine this one, but given location, we were pleased. I would stop here again if in the Thatcher. Loved the open pit grill in which they cooked, my clothes though do still smell like mesquite wood smoke. In my mind the best thing is that you can order 32 oz beers on tap. Not a place to seek out but worth it if you find yourself in area.
