Awesome need I say more, the service was the best! Came for early dinner, no rush the food was perfect.

I was expecting more from this steakhouse. Bar service was slow even with only half the stools taken and three bartenders. Food was pricy. Stuffed mushrooms were good if you like melted cheese (which I do) but it totally disengaged the crab taste. I got the blackened ribeye which wasn't blackened but rather smothered in a sauce to give it a blackened (spicy) taste. Overall, for the price (expensive) it was an average experience. Probably won't return.

Go during off peak hours and enjoy a burger and a beer. During busy hours the noise is unbearable, the service is poor and the food is mediocre. Bar is pleasant but noisy. Management is incapable of asking a loud and rowdy table to keep it quiet.

Best to avoid on Friday and Saturday nights. Very slow service. But what made the night special was a party of six drunk people bellowing for over an hour before manager told them to keep it down. Not good to take children with loud drunks screaming "how often does your wife fart?" Things went downhill from there. Hard to understand why restaurant continued serving them liquor. Food is ok, just don't take children to Charlie Clarks - very disappointing.

Great food. Love the people. Service is a little slow but worth the wait. I went to bar for drinks to speed things up a little. . The bar is where we should of sat great service very prompt.

Some of the worst customer service ever. We went at lunch time and they only have the bar and patio open at that time. It was 60 degrees outside and the only place available to sit was on the outside patio. Temperature would have been no problem if they didn't have the ceiling fans going. Everyone was freezing. We asked several times to see if they could turn the fans off and we were finally told that they are "all connected so they couldn't/wouldn't turn them off". We also asked for a condiment basket for our table and were told that "there isn't another one for our table because our table was supposed to part of another table". You can't make this stuff up! They are notorious for SLOW service because they are ALWAYS understaffed ( we waited 1 hour and 10 minutes before food showed up), To top it off, when our bill came, it was wrong. As for the food, the salmon and steak salad was good, as was the beef brisket but the prime rib dip was just OK. The sweet potato fries were cooked in old oil so they weren't good. Bottom line, go someplace else.

Went there last Friday for the fish fry, sure they say "all you can eat" simply because it took an hour to get our orders and half an hour to get any more after. The portion that came with the first order was 2 tiny little peices. The waitress was nice and tried to make things up by offering free soup or salad. When asked to speak to the manager, a very rude lady comes over and basically said" What can I say, the owners are cheap and only have one fryer in the back. We are tring to run stuff for the orchard(an outside bar area in back) and it is busy. What do you want me to do about it?" Really? The second plate of fish that came out was cold and way under cooked because they had not let the fryer get back to temperature before cooking more fish. Since we did not want to get food poisoning we sent it back and left. Never going back!

Great food and rustic atmosphere. Enjoyed the steak and appetizers plus Tara was fantastic! I travel here often and have set this as a "must stop" establishment.

This place is a favorite amongst locals and for those of us that visit. I rated this visit a 4 because the food is awesome as always but the service despite a slow, night horrible. We waited 20 minutes for anyone to come to our table and that is only after asking 2 times . The hostess saw us sitting and waiting and did nothing. I saw many reviews commenting on service and was shocked until we also experienced the same

My wife and I ate there and the service was wonderful. Donna was our servers name and she was the best. My wife had the prime rib which was perfect and I wish I had ordered that. I had the center cut rib eye which was very disappointing. The flavor was good however it was very small for a 25 dollar steak. It was more breakfast steak sized. Not at all worth the money. If you go ask for Donna as a server and order the prime rib. Stay away from the rib eye.

We have been coming here for over 15 years-something has changed. We have a cabin up here and last weekend went twice and were very disappointed. Hamburgers mushy like they used fillers. Ribs dry-not their old recipe at all. . I don't mind paying more as I know costs are higher up here but quality and portions declined.

Friendly environment, many different choices inside to eat & drink, awesome food and the friendliest staff on earth. Ask for Tara or Nathan and they will treat you like family.

Went with the hubs and the in-laws last night for dinner. We were all happy with our meals. The in-laws wanted steak and they certainly got it! Perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful. I got porkchops with an apple compote on top, AMAZING! Hubby got chicken fried steak...he said (multiple times throughout the meal) that it was the "best I've ever had"...and he's had a LOT of chicken fried steak! Despite the wait (appx 30 mins for a party of 4 at 7:30pm on a Saturday night), it was totally worth it! Huge portions, amazing service, and a great, family-friendly atmosphere, I'll definitely be back on another trip to good ole Pinetop!

Charlie Clark's is the best restaurant in town to catch a perfectly grilled steak. My bf, his family & I had dinner at Charlie Clark's while on vacation. We had dinner there on a Saturday night so it was busy and there was a 30 minute wait but the time flew by while we had a few drinks while waiting in their fun bar. This restaurant only takes reservations for parties of 12 or more so if you are there on a busy night with less than 12 people, you will have to wait a while to get a table. I ordered the Top Sirloin, medium and it was cooked perfectly. The only reason I would not give Charlie Clark's a 5-star rating is because of how long our food took to be served. We waited at least 40 minutes after appetizers and our starter salad before our actual entrée was served. Other than that, Charlie Clark's is definitely worth checking out.

Great place. Chrissy was a super sweet, efficient, attentive waitress. Beer and wine were great, prime rib was delicious, ribs were savory and peach cobbler was out of this world. If I had to pick anything not great it would be the mash potatoes. Kinda dry. Au jus hot cold, maybe tea light warmers would keep it hot and help warm up the meat when your taking your time. Music would also have been nice on the patio. We are totally satisfied and stuffed! Whole meal was $82, entirely worth every penny.

Good food but just like every other restaurant in Pinetop the service is slow. I have come to the conclusion that good help is hard to find up in Pinetop or the management is clueless and does not plan accordingly.

Really good pork ribs, good walleye, prices reasonable. Good service. Very nice dining on a Friday night!

We have not been able to get a good steak dinner in this town, and this place doesn't help. Way overpriced for what you get. I have never paid that much for a steak at a bar in my life. When the two of us racked up a food bill close to $100, I would expect service and food quality like Mortons. I wish I could say it was better, but there are just not good steak houses in this area. The food quality was subpar, the prime rib was full of fat (too full) and no flavor. The person that brought the food (not our server) looked upset that I asked for A-1. On the service side, our server was on the drinks all night. She did a great job, and my hats off to her. The food, no quality, nothing special, way overpriced.

Came in about 45 min before closing time to have dinner and were rudely refused by a waitress. She said she was serving her last table and then they were closing the kitchen. We had just arrived in town and were super hungry and said we'd order right away so we wouldn't hold anything up. Still refused. We even told them we were recommended to stop in by our lodging facility. So we went to Bobby Jo's and received great food and service!

My husband and I are up here for vacation and we're looking for a good date night place. We came to Charlie Clarks on a client's recommendation, though after looking at yelp reviews weren't expecting anything great...Ok, we were just hoping 1) it would be edible and 2) we could trust a personal recommendation. At the very least, we would get some entertainment out of it. I must say, we were pleasantly surprised! They atmosphere was nice, family oriented yet could be fancier and more date night friendly :-) the food was absolutely fantastic and our waitress was nice, friendly and funny. We greatly enjoyed our experience here and definitely do not understand why there were so many sad reviews. I would definitely eat there again! (actually, I've been hinting at it to my in laws all week! Hopefully we'll all make it back out there before vacation is over, if not, there's always next year!)

Travelin Shoes is in the town of Pine Top. over 6,000 ft. elevation. This town was founded in the late 1800's. I guess that's about when this place started up. I had some prime rib. it wasn't the best I've ever had and it wasn't the worst. The service was average also. I guess I was looking for something special and it just wasn't there. But you know I'm glad I went.

Service ok for dinner on Saturday night. Blackened primerib medium does not disappoint. Bomb.com 12 oz is plenty big, still left a big chunk on the plate, even after sharing some with hubby. Husband really liked the chicken noodle soup and country fried steak.

  • Jeffrey H.

Perfect Steak. I rarely find a restaurant that can properly prepare a steak medium-well. Most will prepare a medium in place of a medium-well. Not only did they prepare it correctly, it was very good. Just a little pink (~25%) and juicy. The ambience leaves a little to be desired. The parking lot is unpaved and says divey. You have to walk thru the bar to enter the restaurant. The dining area itself is casual.

Best place in Pinetop. Great bar with lots of TVs. Great prices on domestic beers and they also have some local craft brews. Steaks and burgers are always cooked perfectly. Good selection of other types of food if you don't want red meat. Service is always good and fast. Friendly waitstaff. Popular place so sometimes it's hard to get a table in the bar and they often have a wait for the restaurant.

  • Karen F.

Disappointed. After waiting 20 minutes with our water and no one took our order (we told the waitress we were ready to order) another 10 minutes- we left. Not that busy and plenty of employees. Just poor customer service.

  • Wade N.

The crowded parking lot alone should tell you this place deserves 4 or 5 stars. Good prime rib and ribs bigger than your arm. Excellent friendly service. If you're in Pinetop or Showlow and want a steak and bake this is the place. Go for the early bird and save a few $.

The food here is appallingly bad, and I'm astonished that it has more than one star. We ordered two steaks medium rare. What came out might have been alive. My steak was not even seared! The server was extremely rude during her three visits to the table: To take our order, to deliver our food, and to drop off the check. At no other time did she stop by to refill our drinks or ask if the food was alright. The atmosphere is pretty terrible as well. I am extremely angry with the poor service and the disgusting food that was served at more than $30 per plate. You're better off with gas station food.

  • Mike M.

The food is typical bar style food for the most part. It's good it not phenomenal. The steaks that it is know for are not exceptional but are 'ok'. My daughter had the chicken strips and 'fresh fruit' which turns out to be a dole fruit cup... Not exactly 'fresh'

This is a great restaurant. The food was flavorful, portion size was OK and the price was comparable to a chain steak house. The restaurant ambiance was cool and they have an outside dining are with live music! (This part they only run during the summer). The outside dining/music venue has a stage, small dance floor and is nestled among some lush trees. I would return and recommend this restaurant!

One of the best lunches in Pinetop but served in the bar only. Suppers are way overpriced for inconsistent mostly mediocre food.

Dinner was just A-OK. While the service was very good--our server knew the menu very well, offered great tips, and did a great job, the food was just meh. I had the "grilled" Alaskan cod. This was definitely not grilled, it was breaded and slathered in butter before baked in the oven. I checked under the breading for grill marks...nothing. Shouldn't call stuff grilled if it's not anywhere near a grill. The veggies were zucchini and squash and they were so overcooked it was just mush. Very disappointing. My husband had the chicken fried steak and it came with enough gravy to feed a small village...oh wait--weren't we in a small village? Either way, it was a ridiculous amount of gravy. My son had prime rib which was cooked just past medium but had a nice horseradish sauce with it. Dessert was just meh as well. I'm sure there are better places in Pinetop/Lakeside so read on to my other reviews. Charlie Clark's is just ok. If you want better than ok...keep driving.

Wow - Charlie Clark's has been slipping over the years but I didn't expect it to be a solid yelp three stars. After last night's visit though, I'm afraid such a rating is appropriate. It's pricey like a steakhouse but the atmosphere is too small town casual. The servers are nice enough but the service is slow - which is interesting bc they seem to have time to chat up with the customers they know. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for familiarity, but not at the expense of being unable to get my water refilled as I get passed by four times, including once where the server filled up waters at a nearby table. Think I'm about tapped out being let down by Charlie Clark's, personally.

Was this place fantastic or what!? I ordered a steak salad and my snobby San Francisco standards were blown away. Steak cooked to medium rare perfection, fresh greens with the farmiliar leaves (not just Sysco lettuces) and hot loaves of fresh bread brought to the table. The service was fast, I really appreciated the decor and ambiance. Would totes come back in a second.

5 star blackened prime rib. Best prime rib I've had, and that includes upscale valley restaurants. Good waitress tip to get it medium. Was concerned when we had a 3 star rating, but a 20+ group was more than satisfied, and I'm picky.

Now I've only been to the bar area but we have been several times, including one New Year's Eve. The service is always great, the wait staff is very friendly and the locals are rowdy at times but still fun. Today we ate off the appetizer menu, the potato skins were great but I completely recommend the fried green chili sticks! It's total bar food and delicious! I've never had anything like them.

Food was cold, ribs tasted like they were old, and finally the manager didn't make things right.

S-L-O-W-E-S-T service ever. The food is tasty. If only they could manage to actually cook a steak medium rare. I got a ribeye, ordered medium rare, received very much medium well close to well done. Silverware was dirty, requested a new fork and never received it. My wine glass was sticky on the stem. We sat at our table with no food nor drink for a good ten minutes before we were offered dessert (which we declined) and presented the check. If I were basing this review on just this visit I would only give one star. The oyster shooters were the highlight of the meal, they were super spicy (yum)

Went here for the 1st time last weekend. I ordered the steak because I wanted a hearty meal. My $20. Dollar steak was tough and cutting through it was like cutting through a 50 cent steak. Our server had no personality and I found her to be as cold as a drill instructor . Since that was my 1st time there I will give it another chance. I was sitting in the bar area and not the formal dining area.

  • Jessica R.

The servers are always nice and my husband swears that the blacked (skillet) prime rib is the best he's ever had. I don't eat meat anymore but he loves it so I usually get something else. This place is good but there is almost nothing that does not have meat. We got the fried onion as an app which was good. I got the veggie quesadilla app as my meal (one of the few meatless options on the menu) - it was just ok - super greasy - i could only eat a few pieces. Their sundae was delicious. Overall, I like this place - and I understand it is a steakhouse - but I would like it if they had more options for couples who dont both eat meat, which is why I took one star away.

This place use to be great, however this is not the case anymore !!! Service is subpar and the food is hit or miss. My family and I went to have dinner one evening and we ordered soup, it was delivered lukewarm!!!! I like my soup to be served hot !! The restaurant is really beautiful inside, it is sad that it is going downhill !!!!!

Charlie Clark's is more than a restaurant--it's an institution. Anyone who has spent some time in the White Mountains had heard about it, if not tried it. Locals and tourists alike agree that Charlie Clark's is on the short list of must-try restaurants in this neck o the woods. This is not a gourmet steakhouse. You are in the woods. Set your expectations properly if you go here. Rated locally, this might well be a 4 or 5 star establishment. I've eaten here many times and the chicken fried steak is great. Nice batter, ample gravy, salad and bread all with a huge portion of steak. Try it! Ribs are decent enough but nothing to write home about. Chicken is also decent, juicy, and worth the order. The fish actually gets good reviews from my companions, although I don't eat fish and can't confirm. Fried zucchini are favorite appetizers of the group. They are very thin and crisp and seem to be freshly made instead of frozen from a food distributor like most places. All in all, the restaurant is a safe bet. Nothing is going to be the best example of a particular dish here, but it won't be the worst either. The service can be slow, but I've not had a rude waiter in all my travels. I once saw an 80 year old couple two step in the bar. Like I said, an institution.

I'm not a steak eater, but I had the top sirloin and quail and it was amazing. Best steak I've ever had and the quail had awesome flavor! The service was superb, brought us anything we asked for and kept our drinks topped off at all times. The atmosphere from the the steak knives, to the glassware, to the menu felt very genuine.

This place has been here since 1939, so they must be doing something right. They butcher their own meat, and the steaks and prime ribs show the attention to detail. I'm a filet mignon guy, and it seems better every time I go. The bar and restaurant are separated, so you can have a quiet meal, or enjoy the rowdiness of a true western sports bars. The regular's caricatures are displayed on all the walls, and, if they are sitting at the bar, you can generally find their picture somewhere. It's a nice touch. There are 2 outdoor patios, one for smokers, one for non smokers. If you come to Pinetop, and don't eat at Charlie's, you haven't really been to Pinetop. Oh, and in the summer the outdoor Orchard Bar is open, under a beautiful canopy of trees, with its own bar and live music in the evenings. It's really beautiful.

It is unfortunate I didn't even get to try anything on the menu. My friend and I sat in there for roughly ten minutes making eye-contact with every server who passed by, hoping someone would stop and at least ask if someone has been by to serve us yet. I would've stayed if the manager didn't walk right by, ignoring the fact that we had wandering eyes and an empty table. Oh well.

We headed to Pinetop for my 30th birthday getaway. My birthday fell on a Monday and the choices for dinner were slim. We ended up at Charlie Clark's. That was a mistake. I wish we had ordered Pizza. It gets two starts because the prime rib was decent (though neither the jus or the horseradish tasted homemade). The calamari was alright but a bit strange to have it served with ranch. Then we got our soup, French Onion, which must have been reheated for 2-3 days in a row because it was so overly reduced and salty it was inedible. The country fried steak tasted like it had been microwaved and was the consistency of shoe leather. My daughters Mac and cheese bites came with a dole fruit cup such as you would find in a lunchable adding to my belief that most of what they serve comes out of a package. To top this off our server, Kim, never checked in after dropping food off. My water sat empty for 10 minutes. She didn't seem to notice the soups had one bite taken out of them and didn't ask how our entrees were. At the end of the meal when I was emphatic about not wanting to take my still 99% complete meal home with me she asked if there was a problem. Yes, the steak was taken off the bill but at that point it was too little too late.

In a town with few restaurants you don't have to be great to be busy and Charlie Clarks proves this. We went on a Friday night and it was pretty busy. They told us we were going to have to wait a half an hour but they sat us within ten minutes. The service was prompt. The food on the other hand wasn't the best. Three of us ordered prime rib and it was more medium than medium rare we ordered. The mashed potatoes were cold and clumpy. The chicken fried steak looked like it came out of the freezer to fry instead of hand dipped there. I was drinking cosmos and they came out different each time I ordered so the bar doesn't have consistency. The thing that left the worst taste in my mouth (pun meant) was the dressing choices for the salad. One person at our table ordered the parmesan dressing that was good. They added $2.80 to his meal for 2 ounces of dressing! That is ridiculous and wasn't mentioned when he ordered. If they are going to tack on charges they need to be upfront about it when someone orders. There are not many choices in Pinetop, but Charlie Clarks will not be one of my choices anymore.

  • Erik Frost ..

Disgusting service, dirty tables, cold food, empty sauce bottles, and a 15 minute wait for a refill even though the dining room was fairly empty. Did not meet the expectations of a respectable establishment and therefore deserves only one star. There is bad management here, and if more staff were hired, this "restaurant" may just get better, otherwise, I see an ending being near for Charlie Clarks.

    (1)
  • Missy Y.

Oh. my. gosh. BEST prime rib I've EVER had. Hands down. I ordered mine mesquite and it was absolutely the yummiest piece of beef I've ever eaten. I'm pregnant and this steak haunts my dreams! The staff was very friendly and we really enjoyed the ambiance of sitting on the porch with the big fireplace. Lovely restaurant!

  • Jill L.

Terrible! Sizzler would have been better..a 25. Steak should jave real bacon on potatoes..not bacon bits ...watered down blue cheese dressing..and the horseradish was cut with sour cream..service was poor. Totally dissapointed! The quality of the meat was terrible...buy your meat at store and make at home.do not waste your money.

We had dinner at Charlie Clark's at the invitation of a dear friend. We had a wonderful dinner! The appetizers were amazing. The stuffed mushrooms were amazing and the calamari was fresh and cooked perfectly. The prime rib was very flavorful. The desserts were amazing as well. Great service. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Pinetop!

  • Tony S.

Pretty good dinner. I got the chicken fried steak and apparently it is served with a small pail of gravy. And that is just in case the gravy on the chicken fried steak is not enough. Oh and I did I mention it comes with gravy cause Damn. That's a lot of gravy. In fact, I could have probably saved that gravy and had gravy leftovers for about ohhh a month. How much gravy was it? Let's just say that Charlie Clarke's Steak House has to be the most generous provider of gravy in the southwest!

  • Ruby C.

We went there 12/31/14 for our anniversary dinner. The prices were high class for a diner mentality. We spent over $100 for undercooked rice, steak was not prepared as ordered and had a gamey taste. The servers need a class in etiquette to say the least.

    (1)
  • Suzanne P.

Service was friendly, maybe too much so that it became slow. I felt bad for the silver hairs never to me trying to get their order in for early bird prime rib. Pork Ribs were tasty. Locals entertaining.

This was our first time at Charlie Clark's and our experience was delightful! We were greeted by the hostess who was very engaging and shared interesting tidbits about the restaurants history. She also told us about the daily special including the price. Our server was timely and kept our waters filled, told us about the special again and answered all our questions. We had prime rib and Alaskan cod and were not disappointed in the flavor, preparation or size. Everything was perfect from our fresh and crisp salads to our perfectly prepared baked potatoes and our extremely flavorful main dishes. We will definitely return!

Enjoyable dinner although a little pricier than I would have liked. While the food was great, it just wasn't worth the numbers sitting next to the offerings in the menu. Still, good food so don't get the wrong impression. Our server seemed distracted when it came to serving us. Maybe it was that I just ordered water to drink? Maybe she didn't like us having a [well-behaved] toddler with us. I don't know. She just seemed friendlier to the tables around us than she did to us. Whatever... . The more quantifiable issues I had with her was that she only checked on us once after taking our orders. That water I mentioned earlier--I meant to compliment it with a pint of ale, but never got the chance to order it. Specials were also not disclosed. I had no idea that there was a Friday-night Fish Fry. Wish I had known... . Oh well. The place is massive in size and scale. Others have described the decor. I'll just add that it is an enjoyable place to peruse. Porch seating, even when it is raining outside, is also quite enjoyable. Lastly, it's worth knowing that there is some sort of orchard/special event place across the street that is affiliated with the steakhouse. It looked beautiful! Too bad my toddler and I, after dinner, were succinctly kicked out of the area by a couple employees. Maybe if it wasn't raining on them they would have been a little friendlier. I'll go back again next time I'm in the area and see how another visit might or might not change my opinion. Ultimately, good, solid food choices in a cool, massive venue. But the lackluster service and the slightly pricier-than-expected prices tempered the overall experience.

Super awesome. We ate here Wednesday evening. Best prime rib I've had in 20 years or longer. Then it gets better. The bread was delicious. the salad was crisp, my baked potato was fantastic--too small though. My bourbon and diet cokes were perfect. The ribs were delicious--even the broccoli was good. I'm serious. I kept telling my dining companion that I was moving in to the restaurant. To top it off, they had a guy with a good voice doing live Jimmy Buffet covers.

We went twice in one week. My wife gives it a 3, but I held out for 4. So we really give it 3.5. Pinetop/Lakeside only has a few good places. So be thankful Charlie's is there. And some of the friendliest servers in town. Steaks, steaks, steaks!

Six of us went to dinner on Friday night and the service was fantastic! The place was crowded, we had reservations and went right to our table. All 6 of use raved about our meals, 3 prime ribs, NY strip, filet and fish. Wish it was a bit closer to Tucson, we'd be there weekly plus!!

I came here with my husband and friends last weekend. We couldn't tell if it was a pick-up bar or a dinner restaurant, I guess it was a little of both. The bar area appeared to be full of locals who were there to get their drunk on. Our server was helpful, though not the best informed. He may have been new since he had to go back to the kitchen a few times to get answers to questions on menu items but he was helpful and efficient. My friends ordered meat dishes, which they said were fine. I am vegetarian so I ordered a plain baked potato, green beans and wild rice. I didn't expect there to be much selection for vegetarians at a steak house, but there is usually a much larger selection of sides than this restaurant had. What I did order was fine, nothing special. My husband was unimpressed when he came back from the restroom and had been accosted by a drunk woman who thought he was fresh meat. Lucky for him we were just passing through. Hopefully she wasn't driving herself away from the establishment. If you like meat and are in the area you definitely won't starve if you stop in here. However, from a vegetarian's point of view I recommend that you don't get your hopes up on a bunch of wonderful side dishes to choose from, the pickin's is slim.

Horrible service! The waitress had better things to do than help us. She treated us like we were a burden to her. Will never go back!

Had the top sirloin dinner last night. The only complaint was the baked potato was luke warm at best. Nice salad with dark greens & delicious bleu cheese dressing. Warm baked bread & brownie topped it off. Our attendant was Luke & he kept my iced tea & coffee full. Will return when I can, but the prices were a little steep.

We enjoyed bar food and steak sandwiches. Family owned and lots of locals go here. Great place to watch a game. They also have pool tables.

OMG!! This has to be my favorite place ever for prime rib. Their King Cut blackened prime rib is heaven! And if you order it Medium Rare it comes Medium Rare even after the blackening process. Be prepared to take home some left overs or share...but I have never been very good about sharing something this good. The service here has always been very good. The beer has always been very cold. I enjoy spending time in the bar as much as I do eating there. In fact I think I have spent more time in the bar than in the restaurant. There are quite a few regulars, you can even match several of them up to their caricature drawings up on the wall. They know how to do it up country here!

We are local year round residents of Lakeside & have been regular customers of Charlie Clarks for more than a decade. On almost every visit we are beyond satisfied, but tonight's visit left us reconsidering the total lack of professionalism of the two hostesses, Chelsie & Sherry. We went in & requested our favorite server, Shannon, & was told her section was full. We asked to be seated at a "throw" table which we have done many times before & was told by Chelsie that we could not have the table. I have several health issues & mobility & being seated in a booth is a problem for me. Sherry came & called us back to a booth, we again asked to be seated at the table & was told rudely that we had to sit in the booth if we wanted Shannon to serve us. We later spoke to Vicky, the manager on duty & was told we could have in fact had the table we requested, in fact it remained vacant for quite some time. As we waited for our food we watched Sherry very rudely clap her hands at a busser & point to tables & booths to be cleaned. As we left we were not thanked for our business by either hostess, nor were we asked how our meal was. I trained Customer Service for a major Corporation for 20 years, neither Sherry nor Chelsie would have made it through my training class.

This place was recommended to us and it didnt disappoint. Ribeye was cooked perfectly......and the cod fish was excellent. Will go back again when we are up in the area again. The place has a lot of character too.

There is only one place in the White Mountains to get a Prime Rib Dinner, Charlie Clark's Steak House. It is the absolute best. Tender, juicy, and plentiful, even when you order the smaller cut. Best Prime Rib in Pinetop, Arizona

Meh. I know that dining options in this town are few and far between, but I will avoid this place next time I'm here. We had a group of 4, and 3 of our orders came out wrong. And since I'm at a steak house (and paying 30 dollars for my meal) I expect the steak to be a good cut of meat. I ordered it medium rare, but it was tough and bland. I paid 2 dollars extra for some garlic butter on the side, and I might not have been able to eat it without that. All in all, none of us were at all impressed with the food, and the service was just ok.

Great prime rib! Main steakhouse in Pinetop. Try the prime rib mesquite grilled, you will come back for more. My wife got the beef ribs from the prime rib BBQ and said they melted in her mouth

Love a good steak house, and this one in Arizona's White Mountains is truly good. Steaks done perfectly to order (mine is Pittsburgh style, black and blue, charred blood rare). Service perfect. A bit too much food, but so what? In the area, gotta go there for dinner. Trust me.

After reading the reviews we were skeptical, but ended up being pleasantly surprised. I had the steamed clams and mussels. They came out in a garlic butter sauce which I wouldn't normally order. It was very good and worth the calories (I did skip the toasted baguettes that came with it).

I went to this establishment and I was in for a big surprise! My girlfriend and I sat at a table and were completely ignored. After sitting for 5 minutes which felt like an eternity we decided to move to another table. After a server finally arrived, I ordered a drink which was so watered down, I had to order a shot to add to it. I later found out that the move I made would end up costing me another 9 bucks. Are you kidding me! Then my prime rib finally arrived and was marbled with so much fat, I had to cut off 1/3 of it off. The atmosphere was a zoo and a group of locals were being sloppy drunk and obnoxious playing darts and pool. Very immature for some folks in there 40's and 50's. The floor manager had no control over the situation and hid in the back kitchen most of the time I was there. When he finally walked next to our table, he stopped and stared, not saying a word or asking me how my meal was. When we finally left Charlie Clark's, we both agreed it was the worst experience dining we had been around in a long time. I seldom ever complain about anything and learn to live with it. But this was a very disrespectful time last August. Very overpriced and low quality.

I was Here for the History and was not Disappointed. The food wasn't bad either. Since this is a cowboy kind of place, did you know the gun laws of territorial Arizona, supposedly when people went out and shot antagonists before dinner, were tighter than today? Speaking of dinner.... Near Charlie Clark's, south and west of the confluence of the White and Black Rivers is a spring feeding a stock pond named "Golden Roll Tank" on the maps. The spring's Apache name was known to only the old-timers, the Pueblo name died with the Anasazi, Mogollon and Huhugam. A century ago, about this time of year, a bunch of cowboys overnighted there. The Cherries had just hired a hand who said he was a cook. When Cookie brought out the biscuits they were the best anyone had ever seen, risen tall and golden brown. Once out of the dutch oven the cowboys had beautifully browned tooth-chippers, impossible to eat. They threw them away on the spot and from that day on it was the poetic "Golden Roll" spring. I found Golden Roll Tank in 1986. The last one of those biscuits was still there, beautiful, shining and golden, protected all those years by a shielding juniper tree at the northeast end of the tank, right next to the road. You will not suffer that indignation at Charlie Clark's Steak house. Our bread appetizer was beautifully risen, baked perfectly and tasted like warm buttered cloud. We ordered the Bar Appetizer, a unique collection of tempura battered, deep fried vegetables. Be sure you have lots of guests with you if you order this charger of delights. I split a serving of pike and ordered and an extra side of veggies. I'm pretty sure there was a salad arriving between the Bar Plate, bread, and pike. Yes, there was. "What kind of dressing?" "Vinaigrette?" "Balsamic VInaigrrette?" "Yes." One salad out of a bag is about the same as the next, except for croutons. The croutons on this salad were dainty cubes, no bigger than the end of Sweet D's pinky. The Pike was edible. I'm not raving. There were hair-fine bones holding some parts together. Pike is that way. The taste was not remarkable. It's a steak house for heaven's sake. Some yay-hoo acted like it was Bobbie's Birthday, providing a champagne bucket of embarassment to the second of the pilots at table. We got to sing Happy Birthday and sample a Charlie Clark's chocolate sundae. Everyone thought the candle-lit sundae was excellent. The table average, five diners, for Charlie's, three stars. Fish, ribs, vegetarian, burger. No Steak. Comparing Charlie's to a place I give a three for a decent all-round meal. It's got to have at least a four. The bar, ambiance, service, complete menu, tasty appetizer and buttered cloud rate a four. I'll have to have a steak to ponder five. Arizona has an interesting connection to Hollywood's earliest cowboy actors. Tom Mix and Hoot Gibson are cowboy stars well-noted on the web. Tom Mix met an early, unfortunate end between Tucson and Phoenix. hmdb.org/marker.asp?mark… . John Wayne had a ranch, now subdivision, about 35 miles east of Charlie Clark's. When Charlie Clark died in 1952, Hoot Gibson's son, owner of a nearly ranch, bought the bar and steakhouse, selling his ranch product direct. It's been museum, art and caricature gallery time ever since. Ssaturday night it had sweet, smooth, acoustic country music backing it up. I had NO idea I was coming in for the history. I was playing host to out-of-towners, I'd heard from friends Charlie Clark's was the place to go in town and that it'd been there a long time. I wasn't really aware it was Saturday. These guys were old school. Who knows the practical jokes, lies swapped, tall stories told and and fun made to put a laugh in life. The bomb, fiberglas horse and spotted owl wings sign point to laughs had at somebody's expense. Maybe yours. In those same 1920's, well south of Golden Roll, near the Gila River, word came to a relaxed, dining cow camp the sheriff was on his way in looking for an out law. When the rider who started the rumor rode into camp, the cooking fire still burned, all dishes and their meal were on the ground, and no soul, saddle or horse was found anywhere near that cow camp. The rider got a great laugh. And nobody got shot just before supper. So don't THINK about drinking and dining at Charlie Clark's without paying your bill. There's no place left to hide in Century Two One. Also designate a driver. Arizona's drinking laws are far more severe than they were when people supposedly ran around gunning down their neighbors for pre dinner vengeance. My eternal thanks to Red Ormsby Hutchinson, W.H. Hutchinson, and Ross Santee. May they behold the splendors of God from the loftiest mount.

Although I have been to Pinetop several times now, my first time to Charlie Clark's was just a few weeks ago. We sat on the side patio-ish area on a Sunday afternoon. First thing to take care of, drinks! Bloody Mary special all day Sunday? Sign me up! Pretty decent mary too! Next, what to eat? My menu plan-of-attack is usually skim all of the descriptions and then narrow it down to about three items to focus on and maybe ask the server for recommendations. On the menu there was a good mix of sandwich, salads, appetizers, and more. I decided on the steak salad with the understanding that I could have some of my fellow dining partners' sweet potato fries. After ordering, I remember thinking the food was taking a little longer than I would expect, however that all went out the patio window when I took my first bite. Well worth the wait! Probably the best steak salad I have ever had! While I didn't connect the dots while ordering, after taking my first bite it made perfect sense that the steak would be the star of this salad . . . I AM in a STEAK house! No "afterthought' meat here! And that parmesan vinaigrette - delicious!! Everyone was very happy with their order. The best part was the fried pickle slices on top of the sliders and sandwich! I was shocked and surprised in the best way! I LOVE fried pickle slices (not the wedge, that's weird, just slices) and I know that if they were on the menu I would have ordered them. When we asked the server about it, she told us that even though the pickles are not on the menu, the kitchen would still whip up a batch for us as an appetizer. FANTASTIC! Overall, my first experience was fantastic. A few more like this will totally get them star #5. I can't wait to go back and I already know what I'm getting!

We had a houseful of grown kids for the Thanksgiving holiday this year and everyone hollered for us to drive "over the mountain" to Charlie Clark's Steakhouse for our turkey dinner. Funny thing is, no one actually ordered turkey (even though their all-inclusive turkey dinner sounded wonderful). Some of us ordered full racks of baby-back ribs (FABULOUS!), and others were very happy with their prime rib or shrimp scampi. I couldn't believe how large and thick my hubby's prime rib was, and it was perfectly cooked with the correct amount of marbling. The grilled baby-back ribs had a nice rub on them and had just the right amount of yummy barbeque sauce. Charlie Clark's also offers a combo dinner of half of a barbequed chicken and 1/2 rack of ribs, which is what I usually get. This time, though, I was simply craving a huge rack of ribs, and had lots of leftovers to take home. I can also highly recommend their selection of appetizers. We got a combo of deep-fried mushrooms and zucchini, with homemade ranch dip. *smile* Just remember, their dining room doesn't open 'til 4:45 p.m., but their quaint bar is open for lunch from 11-3 p.m. They also have Early Bird Menus, Happy Hour Specials and Friday Night Fish Frys. (Geez... I sound like a commercial, don't I? Ha ha!) All I can say is that this restaurant has been the special, "go-to" place for Pinetop/Lakeside locals for almost 75 years, and my own family has been celebrating our special occasions there since 1983. Yeah, I'm that old... *wry smile*

We just had dinner at Charlie Clark's over the weekend and the food was OK. The prices were a little too expensive and the steaks were so-so. If you want extra toppings (e.g. bluecheese butter) it's $1.99 extra for one little scoop. Should be complimentary if you ask me since you are paying $24 for a piece of meat. The highlight of this restaurant was the outdoor garden area that opens up at 4 PM. Since the dining room didn't open until 4:45 for dinner, we decided to sit in the garden and grab a couple of drinks. The bartenders there were super nice and the atmosphere was great. Overall, this restaurant was OK considering it was the only steakhouse we could find from miles away, but I have had better. Oh, and the parking was a little confusing. We weren't sure where to park and it was very limited. If you're not comfortable with parallel parking, get there early.

The food and the service 5 star we were visiting from orange county and staying at worldmark and they recommended it and were not disappointed! We started in the bar for happy hour and they served us fresh potato chips that were so good and they were free imagine that! Would definitely go there again. We went on sunday night and they have a early bird special we had the prime rib for 16.99 it was seasoned and cooked perfectly! Good service in the restaurant also. Wish we lived closer.

We were visiting Show Low over the holiday weekend with family and went to Charlie Clarks for lunch with a party of eight (6 adults and 2 children). Historically, Charlie Clarks has always been dependable good. NOT on this occasion! Charlie Clarks delivered poor service paired with sad food. Our server greeted us immediately after being seated in a table in the sun room off the bar. She took our dink orders and drinks arrived shortly after being ordered. We saw our server for the second time when we placed our food order (a mix of sandwiches, salads, two kids meals, and oyster shooters). After 25 minutes our oyster shooters arrived. We asked one of the individuals refilling water to check on our food as we had not seen our server - no one returned with any answers. Our server appeared after another 20 minutes passed (not with our food) - she was kind enough to tell us that because we ordered appetizers our food order was delayed. Our raw oyster shooters and deep fried pickles delayed our lunch order - do they have one cook running the entire restaurant?? Finally after speaking with the manager after one hour of waiting our food arrived. The food was HORRIBLE! Salads = cold steak/chicken with warm lettuce + a bonus clump of American cheese at the bottom of the salad that did not have American cheese in the salad - come on seriously! Can't someone check simple quality? The kids meals came out hot - that is the only reason I can give Charlie Clarks one star. Although we asked for them to come out first when they were ready as our kids were hungry and one came out AFTER the rest of our food. We saw our server a final time so we could pay the bill - yup after waiting over an hour for lunch that was practically in eatable we still had a bill. (They did take off the fired pickles and appetizers and gave us a free desert.) I will never eat at Charlie Clarks again. If you are in Pine Top or Show Low do your self a favor do NOT eat at Charlie Clarks.

Best Prime Rib EVER. It's seriously, soooo delicious. Their leek potato soup is to die for. This is a cute little family type restaurant thats frequented by locals and ski visitors. I love skiing all day, then heading here and eatin' some beef! Yum!

Had a great lunch yesterday on the patio. The steak salad was Awesome, med rare, delicious Parma vinaigrette. Others ordered the sliders, juicy & delicious with the caramelized onions, also sweet Potato fries to share, nicely crunchy. The prime rib green chili sandwich disappeared quickly too! Bloody Mary's (Sunday's: $2.75!) Nice touch on the sandwiches: deep fried pickles, yum!

Amazing fried pickles, steak with blue cheese sauce, and the prime rib was incredible. I'm tempted to go 5 star. This is a 4.5 place, just needs a spot that's quieter.

Love this place! Bar and Restaurant both are really fun. Servers are great. Little pricey.... But good food and fun. I will warn you if you like burgers and order it Medium it will come out a completely burnt hockey puck every single time. They just can't get it!! Order your burger medium rare and tell the server 3 times, it may come out right (medium). Other than that all good been there many times.

Sigh. I have, after several years, given up on this place. The bar has become well. Unfriendly, poor service and staff. Locals wait on each other. My meals are interrupted by jewelry sales. It's about locals getting drunk and it has gone from a nice place to a borderline divey bar, and all about pick ups. Can't find security at the orchard, where I had enjoyed relaxing evenings, and bands. Again, harassed by drunks, while staff watch, do nothing, no security, unless there is a sponsored event. Grilled fish is greasy and breaded. Can't rely on menu descriptions. Wait forever with guests only to have meals come out late, overdone. Never get comped. When my husband travels Charlie's flunks the Lone Diner test every time, when I get hidden in same dark corner box of a booth up front completely obstructed and cramped. Most recently today, tried once again to have a favorite for lunch. Steak salad, rare. Horrible square blocks, tough, overcooked, requested no cheese, there it was. Last year nice thin rare slices, and server heard me, no cheese. This steak was so dry it had to be leftover. Sickening sauce of some kind instead of dressing. Oily Honey/balsamic/red pepper mess? Turned my stomach. Left it paid and will not go again. There is just no point in asking for corrections. Particularly sick and tired of this all day bar restaurant that stops serving its menu at 3:00, providing greasy fried bar food and hamburgers , that IT, only, really, until disappointing dinner at 4:45. Kitchen for two years has refused to consider adding a grilled chicken breast sandwich. Some folks are watching health and hearts, and there are NO choices, though the place is open and serving, during the afternoon. Not one simple salad. No chicken. Burgers and fried grease, and great beer. Very nice late lunch for the very hungry, not healthy, but hey who cares? We got fried veggies, lady. Face it. Charlie's is no longer running on a good reputation. It is running on fumes. Management and owners are asleep at the switch, coasting on past glory days. Service, food quality, customer service and safety issues have been sliding steeply for years. It makes me sad. Not for long. Yelp has led me to far better experiences and delicious food, far better service, staff and management attitudes and performance. I will only come to Charlie's for fundraisers, when profits go to non-profits. Won't pay for anything provided by Charlie Clark's except the venue. Don't have to eat, or drink. There are always outside vendors for a cold drink, or snack at Orchard fundraisers. Craft shows are just the same old stuff. I will go afterward and have a better meal and experience elsewhere or better yet, win one in a silent or live auction! Moving on - Already gone

Prime rib was tough and bland. Burger was bland and fish was bland. I'm sensing a theme... manager was not concerned and a little rude when we told him that the steak was tough although he did bring out different ones which were still tough. If you want sub par bland food come here... will not want to return. But our waitress was very friendly and helpful. Just bad food.

We worked up an appetite on our four hour drive to Pinetop last week (we took the scenic route). By the time we checked in to our cabin, we were ready for a round of cold beers and dinner! Luckily, Charlie Clark's Steak House was super close and open for biz... We entered from the back entrance and were kind of bummed to see that most of the restaurant was dead. But there were plenty of peeps in the bar area and a jukebox to boot. We ordered a round of cold ones that were delivered with a smile and put a smile on our faces as well. Jared put some money in the jukebox and we all chose our favorite songs to play. Since I know you're wondering what songs I chose, I'll tell you only if you keep on reading... Jared went with a steak and I had the Kobe burger with sweet potato fries... He chose the veggie of the day as his side which was butternut squash. I started with a house salad. We had another round of beers, witnessed an almost bar fight, and sat back and relaxed in the small town bar atmosphere... and the guys had apple pie a la mode for dessert. While the food didn't blow me away, it did hit the spot... and for a small town like Pinetop, Charlie Clark's is probably one of the better options for dinner. Add the friendly staff, jukebox, and built-in entertainment and it's a solid four stars. I didn't forget to share my jukebox picks. Here they are, in random order: *Sunny Came Home by Shawn Colvin *I Love You Just The Way You Are by Billy Joel *Feels Like A Woman by Shania Twain *A song or two by U2... I think i chose With or Without You or Beautiful Day but I don't remember for sure *Can't Fight This Feeling by REO Speedwagon *If It Makes You Happy by Sheryl Crow Thanks for reading 'til the end!

Horrible service! Slow slow slow! You think they would have been a little quicker with 2 kids but our server seemed more interested in serving all the old people first. I just wanted a steak and beer and it took almost 2 hours on a Monday night. Don't take your kids. It's almost like they were disciplining us for bringing kids.

Run screaming from this place We were a party of four and had high expectations since this place received raves in Arizona Highways magazine. The steaks were very pricey and were not good cuts of meat. We waited twenty minutes for two draft beers and only finally received them after repeated inquiries. The rest of the food was only so so. To add insult to injury the waitress failed to return my credit card and when I noticed it the next day we had to backtrack an hour on our trip to retrieve. Barely a sorry. I am not sure how this place stays in business!

Great food, setting and price. It was a little bit slow in getting the food to our tables and they only served hamburgers and appetizers until dinner started at 4:30, so. We were really bummed about that. But still overall a great experience.

I hate to give this a one star because we have eaten here before and its been fine on prior ski trips, but this time, OMG! I understand it was a holiday weekend and they were PACKED, but we got there at 7, got two seats at the bar, while the guys stood,, the bartender, TARA, finally got around to getting us drinks, after serving her 5 friends who were standing to the side and behind the bar (which I think is illegal), other people stood at the bar waiting for drinks and she wouldn't even acknowledge them. After an hour of waiting for our table, which they said would be 30 minutes, we decided to grab a table in the bar, at which , also, "Tara" fought with me saying that her friends were getting it, not us, and I said, well my husband is already sitting down. The server, came to us within few minutes, (Ashleigh) and she was sweet and took our drink orders, 15 minutes later, we finally got our drinks ( not her fault), she left, came back 10 min later, it is now 8pm. She took our order, came back 15 minutes later with salads and bread, left, came back 10 minutes later and said she couldn't even put our order in for 20 minutes they were so backed up. She was very nice and apologetic, but she's not back in the kitchen so what could she do? At 9 pm ( one hour after placing the order) my husband went to the front manager and asked how much longer for our food? She came to the table and said its coming up, maybe 5 more minutes. 20 minutes passed, we asked the server again, (at this time we were going to leave, but my husband is nice) the manager again said its coming up at 9:20, and finally at 9:30 it came out, and worst of all not even HOT,, room temperature at best!! We let our server know and they did take of two meals, but in my opinion ( and we have all been in the food industry at some point) the whole thing should've been comped.. We ended up tipping Ashleigh, hoping she would get the whole tip, because NO ONE else deserved any part of it.

Great location. Very close to our rental cabin. Excellent food! We've enjoyed both restaurant and bar. They offer many fun summer outdoor music / craft events. Most recently was "Wine in Pines". We really enjoyed this, and recommend it to all of our renters who stay in our cabin.

Uggghhh, I am still having nightmares about my food I ordered last night. This place use to be sooo yummy , but the quality in service and food has drastically went down for me. My husband, two kids, and I went in for some hamburgers thinking that it's Charlie Clarks and their steaks are good( last time we tried 3 years ago) so their hamburgers must be good too. NOT!!!!! Our waitress also was more interested in serving other people rather than those with kids. We waited 45 minutes for a hamburger and she kept telling us its because I ordered it well done, so rude! When our food finally came out I got a rare hamburger, ugghhhh disgusting! When I told her it was rare and I ordered it well done she suggested I just take it home and cook it.Lol. I told her there was no way I was paying for this hamburger so she said if she could find a manager she would see what she could do. She ended only taking off 3/4 off the original price. Then never apologized or said thank you for eating there, just rude. I will never spend my money here again!!!! Another added note, I have had food poisoning for two days, I am definitely not going back!

OK, Let me make this Bunny Friendly, in response to a message I got: A s#ithole,...I don't feel like writing any more than this place is an absolute, unmitigated disaster ... $#it service, incompetent staff, apparently a-hole cooks, as our incompetent server decide to tell us that the cooks made it clear that did not want to cook our meals since they wanted to close, (BEFORE he brought our food, but after we had been waiting 40+ minutes) Yeah, THAT makes me interested in eating what they cooked...NOT Nice effing' touch when you are already taking 45+ minutes to get basic meals. An absolute $#it-hole. I have no idea what they USED to do, I don't care. As it was on my visit, they would be best to close. Do yourself a HUGE favor, go ANYWHERE else, this place may have been good at some point, but the absolute worst ever on my visit. 10 bucks for a burger and it's DRY, with (un-melted) cheese slice for and extra $1.75....ARE YOU EFFING' KIDDING ????? you can't even melt cheese? Christ on a Bike.... No wonder it was empty at 8:00 PM....

Even though one of my friends who lives in Pinetop told us this place was overrated, we thought we would give it a shot. Unfortunately, we should have listened to my friend. Overall, the place has a cool vibe and definitely feels eclectic and authentic. But that's where the charm stops. The service was extremely slow - had to ask for refills for beverages like three times, twice being from someone other than our server because we couldnt find her. Also, the drinks come in small glasses so need to be refilled more often. There was no pepper on the table and by the time they brought it to me, I was already finished. Dinner took almost an hour to get to us and was not worth the wait. The BBQ Beef Ribs were disgusting and super fatty. The server noticed that my wife hadnt touched them but didnt say anything. Then when she was clearing the table she asked if we wanted a to go box and we said no. She finally asked if the ribs were ok and we told her they were horrible. She kind of didnt know what to do and half-heartedly apologized. She came back with the bill and asked if we wanted a dessert, but we said no my wife was not hungry after the ribs. She again shrugged her shoulders in essence. this was her opportunity to do some kind of service recovery, as it was very clear we were not happy. but, she chose to do nothing and we walked out feeling like we had wasted $80 on a way overrated joint and not feeling satisfied at all. STAY AWAY

Note: This review is ONLY for the blackened prime rib. The rest of their food is sub-par - don't bother. But, when I eat this steak I tear up, nay, weep softly as its deliciousness fills my mouth. My weeping turns to wailing as that final bite is taken and I realize that I can't afford another steak. Why, oh why am I so poor that I can only afford one of these a year?! Order it medium rare or you are wasting your time. Get the big one and take some home and put it in eggs for breakfast the next day. I've eaten at far more expensive steak houses and none of them hold a candle to this.

Based on the prior reviews, I was pleasantly surprised. Food was good. Not great. Don't get the peppered steak. Too much pepper. Early bird specials seem to be a big hit. Esp in the bar. It's worth going.

I have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years. It was always one of the top restaurants in the White Mountains. Unfortunately, my dinner on December 19th was the worst dining experiences I have ever had. My first problem is having a server with only a few teeth and those are rotten. It's not exactly appetizing. The only mixed drink ordered was nothing but soda water. When we asked for a new drink, they took it and brought back the same drink with just more alcohol in it. Two of the salads were wrong. One of us had uncooked clams, two of the steaks were inedible as was the salmon and the wild rice. The waitress was virtually invisible. I was with Damian T. so I had the pleasure of being a part of the ketchup debacle. Honestly, if a restaurant is going to charge $29 for a steak they should make sure the food is great as well as the service. Watch out Charlie Clark's, with your current quality of food and service you will out of business once the new "Branding Iron" reopens. Diners beware!!!

After three visits to Charlie Clark's over two days in Pinetop, I can confidently state their service and food were top notch. Lunch on Friday, April 8th. Ate in the bar. Very busy but great service from both bartender and table waitress. Giant burger for me, cooked exactly as ordered and served with excellent steak fries. Topped with very cool fried dill pickle slices! OK so the shredded iceberg wasn't the best on a burger of this magnitude, but the onion ring and bacon with BBQ sauce were super. Companions had shrimp cocktail (huge and fresh) and pastrami sandwich on nifty pretzel roll. No complaints! Friday night bar fun, played pool and the jukebox was rockin. Lots of interesting characters in here late on a Friday night, and the bartender was spot-on. Saturday dinner on April 9th. Server was fantastic, right on top of drinks and putting up with rowdy vacationers. Appetizers of oysters on the half shell and Rockefeller, both fresh and excellent. I had the blackened prime rib based on Yelp reviews and it was super tender and tasty, cooked to order perfectly. Wish they could get the outside seasonings crunchy and still maintain a "medium" done-ness, but I loved it spicy. Companions had rib eyes and filets, everyone was very happy. Peach cobbler was also perfect. After dinner we moved to the bar to wait for our taxi and enjoyed a visit with the owner.

Good atmosphere and good food. We came on vacation to Pinetop and yelped a good steakhouse and this one came up. I had the ribs and chicken. The meat was tender and the bbq sauce was sweet and good. The bloomin onion we ordered as an appetizer was pretty disappointing. I thought the onion used was too hot, just preference I suppose. Otherwise a big thumbs up.

As far as a "nice" restaurant on the mountain is concerned, Charlie Clark's has been an institution for years. Unfortunately they're reputation has made them lazy, and they are a far cry from the restaurant they used to be. I don't care what city you are in, when you pay $29 for a steak, you expect a certain level of quality and service. Simply put, my experience on 12/19 was one of the worst dining outings I have ever had. In our party of 7, we had two wrong salads, 1 terrible mixed drink, 2 cold steaks with the wrong sauce, uncooked clams, inedible wild rice, and a server who literally had a total of 5 teeth in her mouth. The highlight of the evening was the ketchup. The server gave us a half empty bottle of ketchup for our fries, which had a lid that was barely on. When going to shake the ketchup loose to pour, the lid flew off and spilled everywhere! 4 staff saw the mess, and only one brought napkins, however none made any attempt to help clean the mess. At this point we spoke directly to the manager, who removed 3 of the meals off of our bill. Any reputable restaurant and their management should have not only comp'd the entire bill, but offered the next meal on the house as a sign of good faith. Unfortunately Charlie Clark's has lost 7 long term customers and has earned their 1 star review on Yelp.

Went to a wedding catered by them. It was held behind the restaurant in this really nice covered area. The food was amazing! I can only imagine what it's like inside.

The food is fine but the prices are ridiculous! I admit the mesquite broiled prime rib and french onion soup are wonderful and they have some unique items for the mountain (escargot) but unless going with a group, we avoid this place. Seriously, $2.95 for 1 shrimp added to a steak is crazy.

Good for a beer and burger in the bar with a cool country vibe. Steaks and all are OK. Don't expect choice cuts and meat is often not cooked as it is asked for.

For an apres ski hunger hookup, you can't do better in Pinetop than Charlie Clark's. We ate there all three nights. Friday's fish fry: thick filets lightly battered, homemade tartar sauce, hot little fresh bread loaves, and Charlie's burger, an enormous, juicy slab with thick steak fries on the side. The calamari app was once again not only ginormous, but the breading is a salty/sweet crust and addictive. The all-you-can eat ribs are tender and sweet, and the pickerl/walleye is a rare lemon buttery treat. Our server Lacey was so attentive and genuinely pleasant that I want to make her president of corporate training somewhere so that this type of service could be passed on to de-zombify mega chains. Caricatures of epic regulars line the walls and some of the town celebs themselves are obviously parked at the bar. Ski bums, cowboys, hunters, hippies, a midget, and city folk with summer houses all mingle seamlessly at Charlie's, and the atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and easygoing.

Arrived at 6:10pm on Sun. Nov. 10. took 15 minutes for the waitress to finally come back to take our order. We wanted the early bird special prime rib meal. Menu is printed: Early bird meals served 4:45 to 6:30 Sun-Thur except Holidays. The waitress said we could not have the special because it's Saturday, we quickly corrected her and said it is Sunday. Then the waitress comes back later and said they are not serving the early bird special because it is a holiday. We said the holiday is tomorrow - Veteran's Day. That should have been the clue to get up and leave. Businesses that change menus on a whim just to make extra bucks! And besides - NO SPECIALS FOR VETERANS! Wow what a way to run a business. We ended up ordering the prime rib dinner which was much more than we wanted to spend and eat. Dinner took so long to be delivered - we were finally served at 7:20, an hour and 10 minutes after we sat down. I spoke to the manager walking the floor and told him about not serving the early bird meal and he just laughs and said it's out of his hands, it's the owners that make the policies. This manager said this Sunday is considered a holiday weekend. Gee I can read and that is not what the menu said. Last time we're spending any money at this place that gouges customers. Most other businesses give discounts to veterans - not this one!

If you are a redneck or a rustic person, you will fit in well. Otherwise, forget this place as this place is a right winger tea party hot spot in Pinetop. One could feel their eyes boring hard into you as you walk by. Staff was not so friendly and they got nasty when a take home box was requested.

Our prime rib was great. But, dang, the cocktails sucked. Flat tonic and watered down gin martini. The waitress tried. She brought a second round that was just as bad. And then when my husband ordered a Stella she came back with a Kiltlifter. Not exactly an easy mistake. The waitress admitted they have a couple of new bartenders. Looks like some one needs some on the job training.

Going skiing at Sunrise? Then don't pass up this place if you're in the mood for great steak. This place invented the word authentic. Everything in there seems like it was hand crafted and not like how those Bennigan/TGI Friday type chains throw random junk all over their walls. Anyways, great food, decent service, and it's definitely worth stopping into for some good eats on your weekend ski trip.

Second time there. Had a long wait - 30+ minutes. Had a country band in the bar - not my thing, glad I couldn't really hear them during dinner. Waitress was ok - could have been a little more attentive but she was very pleasant. The food came out pretty quickly considering how busy it was. The stuffed mushrooms were amazing. The cod - big portion, nothing special, and the vegetable - broccoli - was obviously frozen as it was close to mush. A good meal, but nothing to run right back for. Had a much better seafood pasta meal at the Red Devil just down the road the night before.

Mt steak was good. Service was some of the worst ever. They screwed up my friends steak and did nothing to make it right. It was really as if they didn't care.

I would give CC a 4 star review if the service did not totally suck every time we go there. When visiting our cabin in Pinetop we are pretty limited to where we can go for a decent meal and CC has always been a top pick because the food is awesome, but the service is horrid at best. The staff looks at you like you ruined their night the minute your ass hits the chair. They follow up with forgetting your order and give you total attitude when you call them on it. Our most recent visit we waited over an hour for our food (with a 3 yr old which made it extra fun) only to be disappointed by how over cooked and crappy the food was. When in Showlow/Pinetop, I suggest you stick to Pizzeria Venti and Red Devil.

Total Ripoff! Very inflated prices, mediocre beef (prime rib was undercooked, very tough and stringy). Basic salad, flavorless "fresh bread" loaf. We were there early afternoon, appalled at the high prices (higher than Scottsdale), server suggested the early bird prime rib $16.99, wish we had gone elsewhere, will never go back.

One of the oldest and top joints to eat in Lakeside. A must if visiting the area. I've eaten here more than 5 times an never had a bad meal. Be ready to take home half your meal because portions are large. Sweet! Go here.

Worst dining experience ever I've encountered in the state of Arizona!!! Waited over an hour from the time we were sat - till we got our food. Kids meals are ridiculously expensive - $7.99/each plus $2.50 for a glass of milk?? Seriously??? Overcharged me for my wine - excuse was *we changed our menus*. When I pointed out to our SLOW server - she made ZERO adjustments. Went to chat with the RUDEST MANAGER I've met in my life! (And I worked at a restaurant) - who clearly a) didn't have the time of day for me b) could simply care less c) was RUDE beyond belief......I essentially walked out and said - this is my first and last time here. They didn't care! What a waste of WAY too much money. did I mention they are OVERPRICED?!?!?!?!? I would NEVER recommend this restaurant - mad at myself for wasting money on a horrid experience!

I used to live about two miles from Charlie's and ate there a lot; came back after a three year hiatus and they are still amazing. I'm working about two hours away from the restaurant now and decided it was time to make the drive. I had the flatiron steak for $30.00 and let me just say, I had food for days. We even had the waitress from years ago. I had forgotten how much I loved the town and charm of the restaurant. I will be back soon...

While the steaks are great, the BURGERS are absolutely "mooo-i-licious." You'll never eat a better burger. Steak fries go really well with it, and the service is generally good.

Can't say anything about the steaks, but they have a great pulled pork sandwich, and their fries are nice and crispy. The burgers looked great too. Would definitely visit here again.

Charlie's is probably one of the most consistent restaurants in the White Mountains. I have eaten bad food here, especially at dinner time. One Friday I ordered the fish fry. It turned out to be fish jerky--nasty stuff. Another time, a companion ordered the chicken-fried steak. When she complained that the gravy tasted "off," the waitress took the uneaten plate, but did not remove the charge from the bill. The best meals at Charlie's are the lunches, which are consistently good. Recently, Charlie's added a "light" lunch menu offering smaller portions for lower prices. The fish tacos are very good, but the salsa is awful, little more than canned diced tomatoes. The best bets are the sandwiches, which are huge. My favorites include the club, the chuckwagon, and the hamburger, though my wife and I usually split a regular-sized lunch. The portions are huge. I'd give Charlie's four stars if the food preparation and service were more consistent, because when it's right at Charlies, it's really good.

Entered restaurant at 7:44 p.m. Thursday (Weekday). Was moderately busy. Ordered stuffed mushrooms for appetizer; and prime rib sandwich and chicken parm. (nothing complex.) Mushrooms took a long time. Waitress cam by a few times and said food would be out soon. No prob. At 8:35 food was still not ready; she said our order was put in after a party of 8 so ours was put in late. What? You are a restaurant. You can't handle a party of 2 and 8 at the same time? (Table next to us came in at 8:25 and ordered 3 appetizers...they already got served.) Asked to see the manager at which the waitress said to me, "You had an appetizer; I don't know what your problem is!!) Seriously?? Very rude. Manager never came. Asked hostess to see manager at 8:53 (still NO FOOD). She was not apologetic at all. Said they had a computer glich (different excuse/story than the waitress had.) Asked if we wanted our food to go. What? We were staying in a hotel, and didn't want the food the NEXT day. We were hungry now. She never handled this i a professional manner. We paid for the appetizer and walked out WITHOUT BEING SERVED at 9 p.m. Our food was just then coming out of the kitchen. This situation could have been handled better. They should have come by our table and expained there was a delay and give us a choice to leave or stay or she could have offered to give a a house salad to appease us while waiting. Nothing was offered to make us happy. Management plain did NOT care. They were rude. I wish I had read reviews before going there. I will never return. In a large city with more choices, this restaurant would not survive 6 months.

I was in the mood for a good steak and everyone recomended Charlie Clarks.I arrived at 6:10 on a monday,I was alone so they told me it would be about 10 mins.I waited and the hostest came over ask me if I wanted a table or wait on a booth.Since I was alone I told her I would wait for a booth.I finaly got sat down about 6:30 ,about 10 mins later a waitress came over and took my order and everything was going fine.Half way thru my meal I wanted a refill and I waited for my waitress to come back around, and I waited and I waited and I waited. After about 15 mins I got up and went to the hostest and asked her if she would get me a refill. So after a fair nothing awesome steak I go to leave.I tipped the hostest instead of my waitess and asked to see the manager. She comes up and ask me if she can help me,I tell the story and she says"so your server didnt know you were there"..DUH yes she knew I was there she waited on me and all she had to say was....OK No apology or nothing. So save your money and go somewhere else there overpriced and 1 waitress SUCKS

Took family here after a day of skiing. Wanted a booth so we had to wait about 15-20 min not bad because they had nice fireplace going. Waitress was attentive a little casual every other sentence was "ok sugar" or "ok sweetie" but service was good. Had Appetizers mozz sticks standard freezer to fryer fare here not impressed. Calamari lightly battered was tasty but came with ranch dressing and "bottled" cocktail sauce in plastic cups? Come on guys you can do better than that. Kids meals good but fruit cup still was in the plastic cup they tore the lid off and served it like that. Had a steak and was not impressed very fatty was the first time in a long time I did not finish a piece of meat. Overall an ok dining experience was not worth the $160 with only 1 glass of wine. I gave it an extra star for the fireplace and service.

i've coming here sparingly over the past 3 to 4 years. its been a hit and a miss. sometimes the meal and service would be great. more often than not though the food is okay in a general sense. nothing really wowed me. also, the service most of the time is friendly but i've had servers that were not really interested in their job or serving me, i'm not sure what was going on in their head. the last time i went there was the beginning of december 2011. the restaurant was nearly empty for a friday night and waited for 20 minutes for our menus and waited another 15 minutes for bread that was obviously just microwaved to warm up the old stale bread. the salad tasted like its been sitting somewhere because the lettuce was soggy and tasted old. the steak was medial in a taste sense. in the end i paid 82 dollars for me and my girlfriend. we didn't leave happy but i noticed when i was filling out the tip part of the check the waitress was staring at how much i was going to tip her. i felt that was very rude even though she didn't ask once how the food was. i still tipped 20 percent and will hesitate to go back. i can spend way less money with better service and better food somewhere else

Went for Mother's Day today. Got in and sat quickly right when they opened but our entrees took forever to show up. We'd been sitting for over an hour before our main dinner came. Excellent food however and in the end worth the wait. Had some really good service too. Not sure why food took so long to come.

My husband and I just went to Charlie Clark's for our 5 yr wedding anniversary and had a great meal with a wonderful experience. The ambiance and the food was wonderful. The atmosphere was a throwback to an old western restaurant with alot of history, enjoyed by young families and veterans alike. The drinks were mixed well, the appetizers and quality (and quantity) of food great. Service was very good. Clean and pleasant. We'd go back again!
